Claude Debussy s Influence On 20th Century Music
It is not uncommon in music that a particular style or genre may share similar traits with another
completely different musical genre. In fact, this happens quite often, and much like other forms of art,
different types of music influence each other regularly and co exist to create newer forms of music. A
brilliant example of this is demonstrated through the music of Claude Debussy and his widespread
influence on 20th century music. Considered one of the fathers of impressionistic music (a title he
personally disapproved of), Debussy s selection of harmony opened an entirely new realm of
harmonic possibilities that hadn t existed previously. Through the implementation of extended
harmonies and flowing non diatonic melodies (among other techniques) he carved a unique sound
completely different from his contemporaries. One of the genres his music inspired was Jazz. Debussy
s usage of harmony and modulation was highly influential on many of the Jazz greats including Duke

Somewhat unconventional, Debussy employed several techniques that composers before him had
explored, but he delved with a level of detail that none had accomplished previously. Thoroughly
aware of the diatonic system, Debussy sought to build upon it. He had a fascination with exotic
harmonies as demonstrated through his work. At its core, the diatonic system is used to classify
harmonies in a particular key (or set of keys), but Debussy added altered and extended harmonies such
as 9ths and 13ths that provided extra coloring to his chords. Sharpening 9ths, 11ths and 13ths created
tension, flattening them created even more tension, and leaving them natural provided stronger
consonance. His treatment of diatonic harmony strongly correlated to his implementation with
bitonality and polytonality. Debussy would superimpose major or minor triads on top of 7th chords to
extend his harmonies and suggest multiple key

Writing And The Teaching Of Writing
Writing and the Teaching of Writing in Higher Education in Indonesia
One of language skills that need to be mastered by learners of English in EFL context is writing. The
teaching of writing, in general, aims at developing students ability to utilize their knowledge
effectively in certain text. However, learning to write in English is not easy for non native speakers of
English because L1 writing is different from L2 writing. Silva (1993, p. 669) mentions that L2 writing
is strategically, rhetorically, and linguistically different in important ways from L1 writing. In
addition, Hyland (2003, p. 31) lists a number of issues related to differences between L1 and L2 as
follows:
1. Different linguistic proficiencies and intuitions about language
2. Different learning experiences and classroom expectations
3. Different sense of audience and writer
4. Different preferences for ways of organizing texts
5. Different writing processes
6. Different understandings of text uses and the social value of different types.
Comparing the writing system of English and Indonesian, there are some differences that exist. Nunan
(2003) and Kuntjara (2004) mention that there is a difference in writing style between Asian learners
of English and native speakers of English. Asian learners of English, including Indonesian learners of
English, usually has indirect and inductive writing style. On the contrary, the writing style of native
speakers of English tends to be direct and deductive. Moreover,

Going Back to College as a Single Mom Essay
Going back to college after you have been out of school for quite a few years, had three children, been
married, and divorced is a lot harder than I ever imagined. It takes hard work, dedication, and missing
out on the little things previously taken for granted. I miss taking naps the most. I believe if you can
tough it out through the worst days, you can finish school and provide a better life for your children
and yourself. You need a lot of willpower and a large sense of humor. Set your alarm at least an hour
before you really need to get out of the bed. If you set the alarm for an earlier hour you get to hit the
snooze button few extra times. After the third hit, you should have awakened enough to actually rise

Start helping the kids to get ready for school. When you start looking for shoes, do not forget places
such as the trampoline, under the kitchen table, in the couch, and on top of the aquarium. This will
help speed up the process of getting the kids ready before the bus arrives. Once the bus does pull up to
the driveway send the kids on their way. Remember that standing outside in your pajamas and waving
until the bus is out of sight does not embarrass your children. These actions show them how much you
love them no matter what they say. Get yourself ready for the school day. Warm up your second cup of
coffee and take a deep breath. Get a shower and wash your hair, brush teeth, get dressed, put breakfast
dishes in the sink to soak, make sure all your homework is done for today s classes, put books into
book bag, and put all of your things into the car. Don t forget that since you will be gone most of the

Sterilization Laws Of The United States
Sterilization legislature was enacted on the state level with the goal of physically preventing the
procreation of individuals deemed to be unfit, mainly handicapped persons or criminals. Though the
nature of these laws did not outright target certain races or social classes, a disproportionate amount of
the individuals sterilized were non white or of immigrant background. Prominent eugenicists and
eugenic organizations in the U.S. played a key role in lobbying for state sterilization laws. Harry H.
Laughlin, superintendent of the Eugenics Record Office, drafted the American Model Eugenical
Sterilization Law in 1922, which served as a model for many sterilizations laws in the states
(Berenbaum, 1998). By 1926, 23 states had passed sterilization laws that were voluntary and/or
involuntary in nature (Sofair, 2000). Laughlin and other eugenicists called for the sterilization of
institutionalized individuals under the assertion that their genetically inferior traits would be passed to
their progeny and be an economic drain on the state. Many states complied, and by 1935 over 30
states had some form of sterilization law with over 21,000 compulsory sterilizations performed (Allen
1997). Though the eugenic nature of these laws was stressed by eugenicists, it was acknowledged that
the political support of such laws were greatly financially motivated. Another important legislation
passed by the U.S. was the Immigration Restriction Act of 1924, which was the first immigration

Little Pig Let Me Come In Summary
Once upon a time... There were three little pigs, who left their mother and father to see the world.
During the summer of time the three little pigs laughed and played carefree.
Then when winter came they needed to build a house.
The first that went off met a Horse with a bundle of straw, and said to hi m: Please, Horse, give me
that straw to build me a house.
Which the Horse did, and the little pig built a house with it.
Presently came along a wolf, and knocked at the door, and said:
Little pig, little pig, let me come in.
To which the pig answered: No, not on your life.
The wolf then answered to that:
Then I ll huff, and I ll puff, and I ll blow your house in.
So he huffed, and he puffed, and he blew his house in, and ate up the little pig.

The third little pig met a Mason with a load of bricks, and said:

Kim Kardashian Stereotypes
There isn t one single reality television show or reality t.v. show star in particular that is stereotyped to
a typical standard, though as reality television stars gain more popularity and try to build their brands,
to have the perfect body is often the stereotype that all genders go through. Transsexual and
transgendered celebrities have also spoke about the necessity to display the perfect body because they
were born men, and have to exceed women, when speaking about beauty, just to fit in. Everyone loves
to use the Kardashians as an example so why not. Kim Kardashian from Keeping Up With The
Kardashians is known for her perfect hour glass figure with large breasts, a tiny waist, and bigger than
average booty (and yes I said booty!). She is regarded as many for having the perfect body, and other
women have felt the pressure to emulate her body in order to achieve the same vanity appeal. ... Show

With her being taller and simply having a different body structure than Kim, many blogs and

stigmatized, in my opinion, from the communities that these women are either from or are idolized by.

Bottle Rocket Research Paper
There are many principles that went into the succession of the bottle rocket launch. Some could
include the amount of fuel exerted on the bottle rocket, and the angle of the rocket when launched. A
large problem that occurred during launch was that only 4 tests were able to be performed. These were
all contributing factors to the success of the bottle rocket. To start off, the main factors of physics that
could explain how and why the bottle rocket did what it did could be pressure, velocity, mass flow
rate, momentum, and inertia. The rocket was under extreme amounts of pressure when launched,
because the pressure was a high number. The velocity of the rocket was 56.47. This means that the
rocket was going around 56 meters per second. The momentum of the rocket was 13.95 Newtons. The
definition of momentum is the quantity of motion of a moving body, ... Show more content on

This can be explained by Newton s 1st law of motion, which is the law of inertia. Newton s 1st law
states that any object at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line will remain at rest unless compelled
by an outside or internal force. In the case of the rocket, an external force that compelled it to move
was the pressure from the rocket launcher. When in motion, another force that compelled the rocket
was gravity. Gravity caused the rocket to slowly and gradually fall to the ground. The last force that
acted on the rocket was the action of hitting the ground. After the rocket hit the ground, it bounced
straight back up. This could be explained by Newton s 3rd law, which states that every reaction has an
equal and opposite reaction. The reaction of the rocket hitting the ground had an opposite reaction of
the rocket bouncing back up again. Newton s second law is the rate of change of momentum of a body
is directly proportional to the force applied, which explains why adding more fuel made the rocket go

The Food Industry Is Good At Selling Half Truths
Many people have had that moment where they have stared at themselves in the mirror and felt self
conscious about their appearance or felt that they needed to change something about themselves to
feel socially accepted. Physical appearance tends to influence many children, teenagers, and adults in
their eating habits. More than that people have to realize that obesity does not only impact their
physical appearance, but it is a health hazard. Between 1977 and 2000 Americans have doubled their
intake of sugar, which has led to a global epidemic of obesity. The food industry is good at selling half
truths since they are making America an obesogenic environment. The sugar industry and large food
companies are the prime culprits behind America s obesity and diabetes epidemic. According to
former President Bill Clinton, We ve got to change the way we produce and consume food. Instead,
we re leading the way on producing the world s deadliest diet and exporting it to other countries.
Healthy eating activist want the government to tax sugary sodas, mandate expanded nutrition labels
and restrict portion sizes (Kiener, Robert). To increase the amount of healthy people in this country,
we need to take small steps. Therefore, the government should start by regulating foods with high
sugar content. What is obesity? According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, it states that the
definition of obesity is, A condition characterized by the excessive accumulation and storage of fat

take part in the Marine Science Undergraduate and Graduate programs. These two successful
programs have helped bring Coastal its first Doctoral program. The Ph.D. in Marine Science is new at
CCU and there is so much to learn about it. Questions of why Coastal was fit for the program and how
it differs from other schools programs like it are commonly asked. So what all does this Ph.D. entail
and how is Coastal influenced by it? When adding this program CCU had to go through many
different panels and accreditors to be approved for the Ph.D. The university had to prove that eve n
though other schools in the state have similar programs, it is not an exact copy of any other program in
the state. According to the Program Summary, Due to its unique focus and curricular structure, the
program does not duplicate any existing program in the state. This is a very important piece of how
this doctoral program came to be. If there had been too much of a similarity to programs at places like
Clemson University and The University of South Carolina, the different panels of accreditors would
not have allowed the doctoral program at our school (Dr. Roberts). According to Dr. Roberts, The
Dean of the College of Science, The argument that we made to the state is that we have had a strong

Essay on Falstaff in Henry IV Part I
The Character of Falstaff in Henry IV Part I
In Henry IV Part I, Shakespeare presents a collection of traditional heroes. Hotspur s laudable valor,
King Henry s militaristic reign, and Hal s princely transformation echo the socially extolled values of
the Elizabethean male. Molding themselves after societal standards, these flat characters contrast Sir
John Falstaff s round, spirited personality. Through Falstaff s unorthodox behavior and flagrant
disregard for cultural traditions, Shakespeare advocates one s personal values above society s.
Extolled as the essence of Shakespeare s dramatic art (Bloom 299) and ridiculed as the symbol of self
indulgence and vice, the character of Sir John Falstaff, a loquacious knight, ... Show more content on

But Falstaff s heavily charged.. magnetism..and wit (Stoll 485), surpasses the unpropitious symbol
Wilson and Stoll translate him to be. Whereas Wilson contends that critics who laud Falstaff as one of
the most fascinating characters in literature (Wilson 11) have been bewitched by the old rascal
[Falstaff]...and have contracted the disease of not listening to the play (Wilson 11), other
commentators such as Rupin W. Desai, William Hazlitt, and Harold Bloom believe Falstaff typifies all
that we long to be and are not: free (Goddart 75). Falstaff s jocular nature and piercing insults
disguised as humor symbolize the supremacy of imagination over fact (Goddard 75). Falstaff s
essence invigorate the unfettered spirit of man that resents tyrannical oppression of the mundane and
preordained expectations of society.
Of all the characters in Part I of Henry IV, Falstaff alone changes and develops (Desai 15). Whereas
King Henry IV remains guilt ridden, Hotspur s passion for honour, reputation, and chivalry blinds him
to every other consideraion (Desai 15). Likewise, Hal, ostensibly transformed from rebellious youth to
valiant hero, acknowledges his consistent princely nature is veiled by foul and ugly mists of vapor
that...strangle him (Act I Scene III). Falstaff, alone, adeptly weaves among his static contemporaries.
This eccentric behavior and refusal to comply with society s prevailing practices provides him with
mobility often

The Conscript Wilfrid Wilson Gibson Analysis
Wilfrid Wilson Gibson was a British Georgian poet and a lot of his work gets associated with World
War 1. The poet s work originally started out as magical story telling; then abandoned that style for a
more honest, realistic style to life. Not life for the upper class, but for the low level workingman. The
switch to talking about the life of the working class made his work more real; his war poems were told
through the view of the common soldier. His switch in his poetry theme was not pleasing to everyone
though. A conscript is compulsory enlistment for state services, specifically armed forces. The
Conscript is about how working class men, the conscripts, are being examined by doctors to see if
they are in the proper conditions to go to war or be sent home. The doctors do not care if the men die
instantly when they go to war. In The Conscript, Wilfrid Wilson Gibson develops the theme of the
predestined death for the common man. The poet does this by ... Show more content on

being examined for their death and to have nightmares from the war which is what Gibson wants the
reader to understand that these men being forced to fight are being forced into their death.

Cultural Hegemony In Australia
In comparison, knowledge and knowledge creation can be affected by cultural hegemony and
ideologies which could call into question its value. Hegemony is the idea that people in power
maintain power by influencing societies acceptance of their ideologies rather than using coercion
(Rachar 2013, p. 238). In this time and age, this is performed by the control of media resources and
Internet opinion (Kumar 2011, p.39). Media suppliers are highly experienced at emotive and
persuasive content and reap the financial rewards of ratings (Edwards 2012, p. 69). In Australia, it is
perhaps worth considering that a majority of our media, in particular, our newspapers are owned by
companies such as Fairfax Media and News Corporation (Finkelstein 2012, p. 58). ... Show more

Before the advancement of current technologies, the world was reliant more upon the written word to
gain knowledge of current affairs and information of importance to their lives, this allowed for greater
control of knowledge sources and individual countries and communities could apply their forms of
cultural hegemony, with much greater ease such as Adolph Hitler s Nazi campaign (Renders 2001, p.

of cultural hegemony, led to the acceptance of their ideologies and morals by the people of Germany,
who appeared to not even question the knowledge that was being provided to be possibly false

Comparing Medieval and Rennaisance Paintings Essay
Comparing Medieval and Rennaisance Paintings
In the following essay I shall compare and contrast paintings from the medieval and renaissance
period.
Medieval paintings were very realistic and precise.
The king in the painting is in the middle, and anything painted in the middle is the center of attraction
or the important object in the painting. To prove this theory, I looked at the painting and the first thing
that caught my eye is the king. The human body is not too detailed but the actions they are doing or
intend to do are very clear. The painter created visual space in this painting in a very witty way; he
painted pillars and ceiling ornaments, which is an indication of height and space. I think it is a very
successful method ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the following paragraph I shall briefly describe the renaissance painting. This painting is based on
the story of a poor man who couldn t pay his taxes. Then Jesus told him to go to a certain place where
he should cut open a fish and there he shall find a silver coin to pay his taxes with. He did so and paid
his taxes. On the left of the painting you can see the barrel of fish, one of the fish is where he got the
silver coin. In the middle Jesus is explaining the situation to the people. Masaccio always painted the
most important things in the middle. On the right the man is paying his taxes.
There are many things that the two paintings had in common some of the reasons are: It is similar in
the layout, A good example would be the objects in the middle. Jesus and the king are in the middle
and obviously they are the main characters in the painting. There is also lots of visual space on both
paintings e.g.: mountains, pillars. This is the case because the renaissance is the rebirth of the classics
and the classics were basically the medieval paintings. So the renaissance paintings were in a way
based on the medieval ones.
Renaissance paintings also differed from medieval ones. The Renaissance painting is laid out in a way
which tells a story, however the medieval one is showing an event which is virtually a fact or a point.
The Renaissance painting shows more detail than the medieval one and better use of

losing this battle it only brought America closer together and did the final push that got them the

and this battle was not lost in vain. It could be possible that if the American troops had looked over the

Ethics, Law Ethics And Ethics
When I hear the word ethics, the first thing that comes to my mind is the moral code, standards or
values on how we should act as person, these are the rules by which we make decisions between right
and wrong or good and bad. Therefore, we based on these rules to make judgments. If a person doesn t
follow those moral standards or values we automatically think that person is a bad person or vice
versa. We find ethical standards in everywhere we go. There are Medical ethics, Law ethics, Business
ethics and many more but I want to focus right now on Business Ethics. It is important that every
business has a moral code to follow. This will help not only the employees but also the customers of
the company to know, appreciate and respect the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

all its organizational goals while protecting and staying honest to not only its employees but to its
customers. In fact, this will allow the company to make sure if it s personal and organizational
objectives are line up.
Every business should have some unique features that constitute its aims. There are some features that
I think every company should have...
1.Good business skills: By this, I mean that shareholders, board of directors, CEOs, managers in the
company should have experience and knowledge on how to run a business. Not every person can run a
business. They should know what they are doing; they should know how to make smart decisions that
will benefit the business.
2.Social Responsibility: By this, I mean that every business should not only focus on making profits
but on how to help society. Although making money is the motivation that keeps a company going but
it is essential that the organization value also the society and the people that help the company keep
going.
3.Human Satisfaction: By this, I mean that every business should find ways on how to satisfy their
clients, employees, suppliers, etc. because a happy client is a happy business. If a
client/supplier/employee is not happy with the service provided, keep in mind that he/she is not going

The Power Of One Essay examples
Inclusion, not exclusion, is the key to survival. What does this mean? To say the least, the definition is
clearly stated in The Power of One, as well as Richard Wright s Black Boy. Actually, both these works
resemble each other by both having many types of isolation. Initially, P.K. in The Power of One and
Richard in Black Boy are isolated by members of their family. Subsequently, they are both excluded
by society because of their backgrounds. Ultimately, they are excluded within their own races because
of their actions throughout their stories.
To begin with, Richard Wright and P.K. were both isolated by their families. P.K., on one hand,
suffered through deaths and losses. P.K. was named after his father, who died early in P.K. s ... Show

He would be excluded from jobs with decent salaries, ability to live safely, rights to freedom. In
Richard s time, it was horrible to be African American. For P.K., it wasn t much different. He was
English, and the Afrikaners in his society hated him. The English took over and governed their
territory. Therefore, both P.K. and Richard were both discriminated against because of their
backgrounds. P.K. was even whipped while hanging upside down! It s amazing that something like
that occurred.
Lastly, P.K. and Richard went through exclusion because of the way they acted. P.K. was a friend to
the blacks, which was very uncommon. P.K. even started a Saturday school so that they would be able
to read and teach throughout their tribes. Richard, on the other side, questioned everything. When
others would have to scurry out of the way for a white person, Richard questioned the act. When he
talked to white people, he didn t speak with the obedient respect that the others of his race did. This
added to the amount of exclusion Richard went through, the same with P.K.
To conclude, all this exclusion that Richard and P.K. experienced was somewhat similar. Although
there are many more similarities, these were just some of them. To go back to the quote, Inclusion, not
exclusion, is the key to survival. Well, many will argue that both Richard and P.K. survived. In fact,
they did. Richard became a successful writer and P.K. survived

something that will either allow us to use a resource more efficiently and extend its life span, or we
will invent something that will allow us to exploit a new resource and thus render the previously
scarce resource obsolete. The major problem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first issue I will address is how hemp production can greatly reduce our dependence on
petroleum. For example, hemp seed oil is easily converted to biodiesel. Biodiesel is an alternative fuel
that can be made from any fat or oil and can be used in any diesel engine with little or no
modification. Rudolph Diesel originally designed his engine to run on peanut oil. With a bounty of
raw materials, and cheap and easy backyard production, it was slated to be the quot;people s fuel
quot;. But when Lucas and the Hamill brothers struck oil at Spindletop, Texas, in 1901, ingenuity
inevitably took a back seat to big business investment.
Initial research has shown that biodiesel, liter for liter, generates about 90 percent of the heat of
traditional fossil fuels, and the resulting air emissions are significantly lower in sulphur, carbon
monoxide, and hydrocarbons. Burning these fuels also does not contribute to global warming. Fossil
fuels increase the amount of carbon in the atmosphere because the carbon they release upon
combustion has been locked away for millennia. The carbon released by the combustion of biodiesel
first had to be removed from the atmosphere by the plant that produced the oils it was derived from.
Thus, no net gain occurs when said carbon is released. Biodiesel is also safer for people and the
environment since it is non toxic and biodegradable. Oil spills will no longer be multi million dollar
environmental catastrophes.

Five Things That Are Holding You Back In Live Analysis
In the short article five things that are holding you back in live Martha Beck explains five challenges

Steps For More Effective Pay For Performance
Five Steps to More Effective Pay for Performance
It?s hard to pick up a newspaper without reading about another major employer who has decided to
abandon the use of performance ratings altogether. In a recent survey of North American employers
conducted by Willis Towers Watson, 8%, have eliminated ratings entirely while another 29% are either
planning or considering such a move.
North American organizations are restless for change. Seventy three percent report that they are
planning to make some kind of change to their performance management approach. Nearly one third
of organizations report they have already changed or plan to broaden the focus of performance
management to include other aspects of performance, such as future potential, leaving compensation
practitioners wondering if we are ?paying? for a performance definition that is outdated.
The ?pay for performance? story is no different. Eighty percent of employers give the two most
popular pay for performance vehicles, merit pay and annual incentives, low marks for effectiveness.
The majority indicate that true pay for performance differentiation is not materializing in the most
purposeful pay for performance program of all: annual incentives.
While organizations are rethinking their performance management approach, it may also be time to
rethink and modernize pay for performance. Here are some ?health check? steps to follow.

The Tao-te Ching by Lao-Tzu and The Prince by Machiavelli...
The Tao te Ching by Lao Tzu and The Prince by Machiavelli
Throughout history, it can be argued that at the core of the majority of successful societies has stood
an effective allocation of leadership. Accordingly, in their respective works The Tao te Ching and The
Prince , Lao Tzu and Machiavelli have sought to reach a more complete understanding of this
relationship. The theme of political leaders and their intricate relationship with society indeed
manifests itself within both texts, however, both Lao Tzu and Machiavelli approach this issue from
almost entirely opposite positions. Lao Tzu appears to focus the majority of his attention on letting
problems or situations take their course and allowing good to prevail. On the ... Show more content on

Perhaps in his time Lao Tzu viewed that his interpretation of human nature was entirely possible, but
as far as the twenty first century is involved, the idea that if societies are left unattended we are able to
Trust them (Ā§ 75, 59) is absurd. It can be argued legitimately that Lao Tzu s concepts have been
applied and in fact have proven to be extremely effective. For example, a capitalistic, laissez faire
approach to governing, particularly the form advocated by American Republicans. However, cases of
removing regulations and adopting the leadership standards Lao Tzu advises have been strictly applied
to market economics, not to each and every facet of government.
Refraining from absolute negativity about Lao Tzu s work, the Tao does have many redeemable
qualities. The emphasis Lao Tzu places on the attainment of individual happiness is extremely
honorable, however this doesn t detract from the ineffectiveness Lao Tzu encounters, as he is unable
to come to well grounded conclusion on the means for effective leadership. His advice to politicians is
to only interfere when it is an absolute necessity; yet he takes this to a radical extreme advising leaders
to pretty much do nothing. His ideas are taken to an extent where if human nature falters, which it

The Trail Of Tears By James Collins

History 201

TRAIL OF TEARS
The trail of tears is also referred to as the period of Indian s removal. It was a period where Native
Americans in the U.S were forcefully relocated following the removal of Indian Removal Act of 1830.
Those who were forcibly moved were from Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole, and Chickasaw and
Choctaw nations in the southern U.S, an area initially referred to as the Indian Territory. Migration
from Cherokee nation had begun in the early 1800 s where some Cherokee s decided to move and
settle in other parts of the country. A group of Old Settlers had moved there earlier in 1817 voluntarily
to lands granted to them in Arkansas where they had a peaceful life. Afterward, they were forced to
move into the I Indian Territory (A. Byers 27)
Resentment of Cherokee from the whites had been building up ad it became worse after the discovery
of gold in northern Georgia. White communities turned against their Cherokee neighbors due to the
thirst for expansion and gold. Without consulting or questions asked, the U.S government decided that
Cherokee had to be removed, leaving their lands, home and farm. Before their removal, the five
groups lived together being referred to as the Five Civilized Groups. The white settlers from the
southeast had been pressurizing the U.S government to remove the Native Americans. These settlers
were on the Indian lands and wanted more for them. The move was initially opposed by many as it

The Leadership Challenge Of General George S. Patton...
There are a number of qualities that quantify good leaderships and good leaders. According to Kouzes
and Posner in their book The Leadership Challenge, all successful leaders have (5) practices in
common. They Model the Way , Inspire a shared vision , Challenge the process , enable others to act
and encourage the heart (15). Never is there a more important time to have exemplary leadership, than
in a time of war. Both the American Civil War and World War II showed what was possible through
good leadership. From abolishing slavery and preserving the Union, to fighting tyranny and
oppression abroad, both events in American history had a profound impact on all those involved. The
impact would most certainly be different if not for the leadership of Colonel Lawrence Chamberlain of
the Union Army during the Civil War and General George S. Patton during World War II. Both leaders
possessed the 5 practices essential for god leadership, yet both leaders to different approaches to
accomplish their goals. The leadership of General George S. Patton can be viewed as an example of
transactional leadership. This type of leadership makes followers of an organization achieve objectives
through rewards and punishment . This can be shown in the scene in Patton where he is meeting his

Characteristics Of Humility Of God
The Meek Is Humble Before God
Two Characteristics of Meekness
Meekness could be examined by towards God and towards neighbors because these two are the
objects of meekness. Craston structurally described a concept of meekness. He said that meekness is
humility born of trustful submission to God in the first place, but it results in gentle, forgiving
unselfishness towards others. This explanation shows the characteristics of meekness. His definition is
composed of two parts; the first part is humility of God and it come from trustful submission . The
second part is unselfishness towards others and it has mildness and pardon.
Meekness towards God
Meekness is partially overlapped concept with humility. Henry understood meekness as a gracious
easiness to be wrought upon by that which is good. Brakel defined humility is the humble disposition
of the heart of the believer. Meekness and humility both direct to a specific inclination of spirit. Then,
what meekness and humility are different? Trench distinguished meekness from humility. He argued
that humility is acknowledgement of creatureliness, of absolute dependence, of possessing nothing
and of receiving all things from God. , and meekness is an inwrought grace of the soul that is
exercised primarily toward God.
When Craston argued that meekness is humility born of trustful submission to God in the first place ,
humility should come before meekness; in other words, humility would be a foundation of meekness
in the light of its characteristics. However, according to Trench s distinction, humility is relatively
more passive than meekness. Humility remains in understanding of creatureliness, and absolute
dependence, but meekness is exercised primarily toward God. Word of God and Providence of God
Thomas Watson understood that meekness towards God implies into submit to the word of God and
the providence of God. Regarding the word of God, the meek will obey the word of God because he
already understands necessities of absolute dependence on God. The meek will bear the word in his
soul and humbly comply with the word. Furthermore, when the meek struggles with his flesh against
the word, he will rebuke his corrupted flesh rather will

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Overdraft
1. Overdraft
Overdraft may occur when the amount of money which is withdrawn from a bank account exceeds the
amount available (Overdraft, 2015). Normally it happens when an individual writes the total on the
check more than the total balance in the account. The bank will cover the checks and allows the
customers to deposit or place more funds into the account in order to cover the negative balance. In
addition, the bank will charge an interest at the agreed rate (Overdraft, 2015) on this short term loan
instead of charging fees. Basically, the bank would not reject the customers check when there is no
enough funds which are available to cover up because the customes pay for the overdraft protection on
their account.

Darwin And The Scientific Method
Summary Darwin and the Scientific Method There has been an apparent disagreement between how
Darwin conducted his experimentation and how he publicized his findings to the public. Ayala
describes that Darwin follows and inductive approach derived from British philosophers such as John
Stuart Mill and Francis Bacon; they believed in making observations without criticizing as to their
significance and to gather several of them in order to reach a final conclusion. As Darwin traveled on
the H.M.S. Beagle he was in pursuit of knowledge that required observation and experimentation,
otherwise known as empirical evidence. In this case, he wanted to explain the origin of organisms and
to see if his theory of natural selection is true. Darwin had the fear of being accused in making
evaluations based on poorly measured results. There was this urge in formulating hypotheses that can
be tested by observable experimentation rather than having ones that appear to be afterthoughts. It has
been a false mindset that science advances by gathering experimental results and drawing a
conclusion. Bacon and Mill suggested inductive reasoning as a way to gain empirical conclusions not
based on personal feelings or opinions. Basically, an ideal scientist should observe any occurrence and
record without worrying as to what the truth may be. However, every scientist must have a plan as to
what kind event to study and obtain answers to questions they may have on something that interests
them. A

Identity
No person puts themselves in the same category as others, each person has different values and
perceives themselves completely different than everyone else. An identity is the set of characteristics
and the state of being that defines a person and makes them unique. No one decides for themselves
what they value; from birth everyone has choices made for them. Parents choose how they want to
raise their children and where; all of which are factors that decide who each person is and who they
become. The factors that cause for differences in individuals vary, each person is introduced to

However these expectations differ for age groups, race, and social order; and being a people eager to
fit in and be accepted, everyone is coerced into following the norms and expectations set for them.
Andrew Sullivan in his article , I Used to Be a Human Being discusses the loss of a true identity to the
new expectations of a developing generation. The people of each generation allow themselves to be
changed and formed into the ideals of their society. Andrew Sullivan talks about how each person of
this new generation is expected to interact with each other in a fashion so far removed from the past
that these new pressures are only relevant to the youth of the society. Having been born twenty years
earlier saved people from the pressures put on these individuals, seeing as the pressures were created
after the identities of the people were created. The pressures for each generation are different than the
generation that came before them, and with the new pressures and expectations come a new type of
people, people who value different things and act in different manners. As new groups of individuals
arise the new expectations expectations, for how each person should act, rise with them. These people
will then raise their children who will grow up alongside an entirely different set of norms than their
parents had, bringing again a new type of people into society. Anna Garvey in her article, The Oregon
Trail Generation: Life Before and After Mainstream Tech supports this idea. Having been part of a
generation in between new and old values, she got to see first hand how new environments create
different pressures and therefore cause individuals to conform and let themselves be changed by what
these new expectations call for. As an environment changes, the way in which individuals interact with
each other changes as well. The environment that a person is in

Third-Person Shooter Game Analysis
In a third person shooter game, the player s character is seen on the screen whereas in a first person
shooter game, the screen is viewed through the eyes of the character. The video game industry has
made great advances since the 1970 s when gaming images were simplistic and therefore not very
graphic nor realistic (Gentile, Lynch, Linder, Walsh, 2004). Nowadays, with the prevalence of highly
violent and realistic video games involving person to person brutality, there are rising concerns
regarding its effects on users real life thoughts and behaviors particularly in youth.
Playing a first person shooter game blurs the line between fantasy and reality even more than third
person because as a first shooter, the player feels as though he ... Show more content on

Bandura states people are more likely to attend to, recall, and imitate media violence that they believe
could exist in real life (Bandura, 1965 as cited in Brewer, 2011, p.17). Also in first person shooter
games, the player and his or her surroundings tends to look more realistic, such as in Grant Theft
Auto. It has a higher rate of sensory realism, which refers to to formal features of a representation that
progressively simulates the same experience in the natural environment (Williams Clippinger, 2002).
When playing a first person shooter game, players may feel more personally targeted, since they are
witnessing and conducting violent actions as if they are the character. This can lead players to
experience higher levels of identification and engagement with the violence. For example, when
describing the gaming experience, players of a first person game may say, I just got shot. Previous
research has shown heighten aggression occurs as a result of playing first person video games, due to
the player s identification with the virtual characters (Anderson Bushman, 2001, and Tamborini et al.,
2004 as cited in Jeong, Biocca, Back, 2012, p.1842) enhancing of one s presence (Schneider et al.,

Modernization Theory And The Theories Of Modernization Theory
DEVELOPMENT THEORIES
STUDENT NUMBER ; 1008455
Modernization theory represents the mixture of sociology theories within societies. It mainly reflects
the traditional views of society and highlight the internal factors of a country and development
(Bernstein, 1971). From the 18th century, it englight the individual ideas of modernism the civilians
living in the society. Whereas, the social changes were brought in revolution to change the view and
standards of living with the concept of functionalism, which focuses on interdependence (TeĢtreault
Abel, 1986). It is stated by the French philosopher Marquies de Condorcet, who bought a new division
of technology development and changes in the society.
.
Modernization theory argues that poor nations can change their status by increasing their economic
growth and adopting changes in as far as their beliefs, values and attitudes towards work are
concerned. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dependency theory was arose in the response of modernization that where wealthy states are growing
quickly, on the other hand underdeveloped states still need some progress in the society (Seers, 1981).
Therefore, dependency theory brought a new concept to provide basic needs of poor nations such as
labor, markets, natural resources, etc.
Researcher highlighted, modernization has been the most dominant theory in societies and political
sector (Mihalache, 2007). Modernization theory faces criticism in the shape of dependency theory
because of the underdeveloped states were suffering and modernization theorist was focusing on the
development literature by neglecting the poor nations (Seers, 1981). The primary function of
modernization theory is to ensure an optimal framework for the proper governance of

Kevin Durant s Cheating
?KD Ruined the NBA? This happens to be an incredibly popular statement that I have seen being used
across social media. Many fans label Kevin Durant as a ?coward? or a ?snake? and claim that he
ruined the landscape of the NBA. Throughout this article I am going to be talking about my thoughts
on two differing perspectives: Kevin Durant couldn?t win so he left to win a guaranteed
championship, and this is exactly the same type of rivalry we have seen throughout the history of the
NBA. At the end, I will reveal my true personal opinion on the subject and my current thoughts about
the Warriors and this series going forward. The Snake Here is a fact. In 2016, Kevin Durant and
Russell Westbrook were up 3 1 in a series against the 73 win Warriors ... Show more content on

This has blossomed into a great rivalry and one that both organizations should be proud of. I am
favoring the Warriors currently in this matchup. Last year, they just simply had too much firepower for
the Cavaliers, even with Kyrie Irving. However, I?ve learned to NEVER count LeBron James out of
the equation. If the Cavaliers happen to lose this year, I do not believe we will see James returning
next season in a Cleveland jersey. If he ends up going to the 76ers, I am incredibly interested in how
they are going to make that work. Maybe James will work more on his spot up shooting? They have
two ball dominant forwards who are not spectacular shooters. Simmons would most likely play point
guard, but still lacks the necessary jumper to be able to space the floor. For the most part, Embiid also
needs the ball in his hands quite often to be efficient. It would also be interesting to see the long term
effects this may have on their talent off the bench. They may give up some playing time, but they
would also have the mentorship of one of the greatest players of all time on their

Reflection Of The Double Helix
The Double Helix, written by James D. Watson, is an autobiographical portrayal of the race to
discover the molecular structure DNA. The characters throughout the book consist of Francis Crick,
Maurice Wilkins, Linus Pauling, Peter Pauling, Rosalind Franklin, and Erwin Chargaff. Crick was
Watson s partner in the discovery of DNA. Maurice Wilkins worked at King s College in London and
made Watson s interest in DNA more prominent. Linus Pauling was a chemist at Caltech in California
and was intensely close to beating Watson and Crick to the figuring out the structure of DNA.
Rosalind Franklin worked under Maurice Wilkins at King s College faced gender bias as a woman. Sir
Lawrence Bragg was the Director of the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge and the superior of Crick
and Watson. Erwin Chargaff at Columbia University was the scientist who discovered the rules in the
bonding of base pairs. Lastly, Peter Pauling gave Watson and Crick their last piece of evidence to
identify the double helix. The story was narrated by James Watson, who earned his PhD in Zoology at
Harvard.
The book began by Watson explaining his co workers by giving his experiences with them. He
explains how he himself ended up at the Cavendish Lab in Cambridge and met Francis. Watson is only
interested in studying things he finds fascinating, with little to no education or interest in mathematics
or chemistry, and he refuses to do so. After attending a lecture by Maurice Wilkins, Watson becomes
invested in the

How I Operate Within A Working Environment
Introduction Self reflection is the key in gaining an outlook of a student s strengths and weaknesses.
By understanding these characteristics, one can take action to improve upon them. Within this
assignment I will discuss the tasks and challenges that the company Midland Heart has presented. This
will involve reflecting upon such challenges to assess how I operate within a working environment.
My primary role was to shadow the manager of the law team to study the ways in which she organises
and communicate with her staff. The bulk of my role involved going through housing cases to
understand how the law team is used as a function within the business. Furthermore I also worked
with various other departments to understand their roles in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In reality however, there were a number of times where I asked for assistance particularly regarding
some of the legal documents. In retrospect, I should have asked for more detail about certain jobs to
clarify some of the terms. Further to this I had to ensure that my progress was being monitored and
developed and this was maintained by semi regular meetings and informal conversations. Reflecting
on my first work placement, it was rare to have such meetings which often left it difficult to
understand how my skills were being developed. Macduff (2012, p. 24) supports Cooks previous point
going on to suggest that settling within the second year is seen as more advantageous as there is a
natural improvement in confidence. Despite this I still struggled to confidently operate as Midland
Heart was such a drastic difference to Savers. This oversight could have been avoided if I had
discussed the issue with either my tutor or manager to gain an insight into the correct office etiquette.
Networking One of the purposes of pursuing a work placement is to meet working people to
understand how they work. Brooks (2012) establishes that networking within your organisation could
also help an employee with future job opportunities. It was therefore important to utilise this
opportunity to gain a number of contacts in a field that I was interested in. As my previous placement
was in an organisation that I already worked for, it was difficult to find new contacts. This

  • 2. Claude Debussy s Influence On 20th Century Music It is not uncommon in music that a particular style or genre may share similar traits with another completely different musical genre. In fact, this happens quite often, and much like other forms of art, different types of music influence each other regularly and co exist to create newer forms of music. A brilliant example of this is demonstrated through the music of Claude Debussy and his widespread influence on 20th century music. Considered one of the fathers of impressionistic music (a title he personally disapproved of), Debussy s selection of harmony opened an entirely new realm of harmonic possibilities that hadn t existed previously. Through the implementation of extended harmonies and flowing non diatonic melodies (among other techniques) he carved a unique sound completely different from his contemporaries. One of the genres his music inspired was Jazz. Debussy s usage of harmony and modulation was highly influential on many of the Jazz greats including Duke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Somewhat unconventional, Debussy employed several techniques that composers before him had explored, but he delved with a level of detail that none had accomplished previously. Thoroughly aware of the diatonic system, Debussy sought to build upon it. He had a fascination with exotic harmonies as demonstrated through his work. At its core, the diatonic system is used to classify harmonies in a particular key (or set of keys), but Debussy added altered and extended harmonies such as 9ths and 13ths that provided extra coloring to his chords. Sharpening 9ths, 11ths and 13ths created tension, flattening them created even more tension, and leaving them natural provided stronger consonance. His treatment of diatonic harmony strongly correlated to his implementation with bitonality and polytonality. Debussy would superimpose major or minor triads on top of 7th chords to extend his harmonies and suggest multiple key ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Writing And The Teaching Of Writing Writing and the Teaching of Writing in Higher Education in Indonesia One of language skills that need to be mastered by learners of English in EFL context is writing. The teaching of writing, in general, aims at developing students ability to utilize their knowledge effectively in certain text. However, learning to write in English is not easy for non native speakers of English because L1 writing is different from L2 writing. Silva (1993, p. 669) mentions that L2 writing is strategically, rhetorically, and linguistically different in important ways from L1 writing. In addition, Hyland (2003, p. 31) lists a number of issues related to differences between L1 and L2 as follows: 1. Different linguistic proficiencies and intuitions about language 2. Different learning experiences and classroom expectations 3. Different sense of audience and writer 4. Different preferences for ways of organizing texts 5. Different writing processes 6. Different understandings of text uses and the social value of different types. Comparing the writing system of English and Indonesian, there are some differences that exist. Nunan (2003) and Kuntjara (2004) mention that there is a difference in writing style between Asian learners of English and native speakers of English. Asian learners of English, including Indonesian learners of English, usually has indirect and inductive writing style. On the contrary, the writing style of native speakers of English tends to be direct and deductive. Moreover, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Sterilization Laws Of The United States Sterilization legislature was enacted on the state level with the goal of physically preventing the procreation of individuals deemed to be unfit, mainly handicapped persons or criminals. Though the nature of these laws did not outright target certain races or social classes, a disproportionate amount of the individuals sterilized were non white or of immigrant background. Prominent eugenicists and eugenic organizations in the U.S. played a key role in lobbying for state sterilization laws. Harry H. Laughlin, superintendent of the Eugenics Record Office, drafted the American Model Eugenical Sterilization Law in 1922, which served as a model for many sterilizations laws in the states (Berenbaum, 1998). By 1926, 23 states had passed sterilization laws that were voluntary and/or involuntary in nature (Sofair, 2000). Laughlin and other eugenicists called for the sterilization of institutionalized individuals under the assertion that their genetically inferior traits would be passed to their progeny and be an economic drain on the state. Many states complied, and by 1935 over 30 states had some form of sterilization law with over 21,000 compulsory sterilizations performed (Allen 1997). Though the eugenic nature of these laws was stressed by eugenicists, it was acknowledged that the political support of such laws were greatly financially motivated. During the summer of time the three little pigs laughed and played carefree. Then when winter came they needed to build a house. The first that went off met a Horse with a bundle of straw, and said to hi m: Please, Horse, give me that straw to build me a house. Which the Horse did, and the little pig built a house with it. Kim Kardashian Stereotypes There isn t one single reality television show or reality t.v. show star in particular that is stereotyped to a typical standard, though as reality television stars gain more popularity and try to build their brands, to have the perfect body is often the stereotype that all genders go through. Transsexual and transgendered celebrities have also spoke about the necessity to display the perfect body because they were born men, and have to exceed women, when speaking about beauty, just to fit in. Everyone loves to use the Kardashians as an example so why not. Kim Kardashian from Keeping Up With The Kardashians is known for her perfect hour glass figure with large breasts, a tiny waist, and bigger than average booty (and yes I said booty!). • 8. Bottle Rocket Research Paper There are many principles that went into the succession of the bottle rocket launch. Some could include the amount of fuel exerted on the bottle rocket, and the angle of the rocket when launched. A large problem that occurred during launch was that only 4 tests were able to be performed. These were all contributing factors to the success of the bottle rocket. To start off, the main factors of physics that could explain how and why the bottle rocket did what it did could be pressure, velocity, mass flow rate, momentum, and inertia. The rocket was under extreme amounts of pressure when launched, because the pressure was a high number. The velocity of the rocket was 56.47. This means that the rocket was going around 56 meters per second. The momentum of the rocket was 13.95 Newtons. The definition of momentum is the quantity of motion of a moving body, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be explained by Newton s 1st law of motion, which is the law of inertia. Newton s 1st law states that any object at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line will remain at rest unless compelled by an outside or internal force. In the case of the rocket, an external force that compelled it to move was the pressure from the rocket launcher. When in motion, another force that compelled the rocket was gravity. Gravity caused the rocket to slowly and gradually fall to the ground. The last force that acted on the rocket was the action of hitting the ground. After the rocket hit the ground, it bounced straight back up. This could be explained by Newton s 3rd law, which states that every reaction has an equal and opposite reaction. The reaction of the rocket hitting the ground had an opposite reaction of the rocket bouncing back up again. Newton s second law is the rate of change of momentum of a body is directly proportional to the force applied, which explains why adding more fuel made the rocket go ... The Food Industry Is Good At Selling Half Truths Many people have had that moment where they have stared at themselves in the mirror and felt self conscious about their appearance or felt that they needed to change something about themselves to feel socially accepted. Physical appearance tends to influence many children, teenagers, and adults in their eating habits. More than that people have to realize that obesity does not only impact their physical appearance, but it is a health hazard. Between 1977 and 2000 Americans have doubled their intake of sugar, which has led to a global epidemic of obesity. The food industry is good at selling half truths since they are making America an obesogenic environment. The sugar industry and large food companies are the prime culprits behind America s obesity and diabetes epidemic. Instead, we re leading the way on producing the world s deadliest diet and exporting it to other countries. At Coastal Carolina University (CCU) many students take part in the Marine Science Undergraduate and Graduate programs. These two successful programs have helped bring Coastal its first Doctoral program. The Ph.D. in Marine Science is new at CCU and there is so much to learn about it. Questions of why Coastal was fit for the program and how it differs from other schools programs like it are commonly asked. So what all does this Ph.D. entail and how is Coastal influenced by it? When adding this program CCU had to go through many different panels and accreditors to be approved for the Ph.D. The university had to prove that eve n though other schools in the state have similar programs, it is not an exact copy of any other program in the state. According to the Program Summary, Due to its unique focus and curricular structure, the program does not duplicate any existing program in the state. This is a very important piece of how this doctoral program came to be. If there had been too much of a similarity to programs at places like Clemson University and The University of South Carolina, the different panels of accreditors would not have allowed the doctoral program at our school (Dr. Roberts). The poet s work originally started out as magical story telling; then abandoned that style for a more honest, realistic style to life. Not life for the upper class, but for the low level workingman. The switch to talking about the life of the working class made his work more real; his war poems were told through the view of the common soldier. His switch in his poetry theme was not pleasing to everyone though. A conscript is compulsory enlistment for state services, specifically armed forces. The Conscript is about how working class men, the conscripts, are being examined by doctors to see if they are in the proper conditions to go to war or be sent home. Hegemony is the idea that people in power maintain power by influencing societies acceptance of their ideologies rather than using coercion (Rachar 2013, p. 238). In this time and age, this is performed by the control of media resources and Internet opinion (Kumar 2011, p.39). Media suppliers are highly experienced at emotive and persuasive content and reap the financial rewards of ratings (Edwards 2012, p. 69). Medieval paintings were very realistic and precise. The king in the painting is in the middle, and anything painted in the middle is the center of attraction or the important object in the painting. To prove this theory, I looked at the painting and the first thing that caught my eye is the king. The human body is not too detailed but the actions they are doing or intend to do are very clear. The painter created visual space in this painting in a very witty way; he painted pillars and ceiling ornaments, which is an indication of height and space. I think it is a very successful method ... P.K. even started a Saturday school so that they would be able to read and teach throughout their tribes. Richard, on the other side, questioned everything. When others would have to scurry out of the way for a white person, Richard questioned the act. When he talked to white people, he didn t speak with the obedient respect that the others of his race did. This added to the amount of exclusion Richard went through, the same with P.K. To conclude, all this exclusion that Richard and P.K. experienced was somewhat similar. Although there are many more similarities, these were just some of them. To go back to the quote, Inclusion, not exclusion, is the key to survival. Well, many will argue that both Richard and P.K. survived. In fact, they did. • 19. Industrial Hemp Essay In his essay, quot;Resources and Environmental Policy, quot; Jan Narveson claims that, quot;there are no global shortages of anything that we have to worry about. quot; In this claim he makes two basic assumptions about resources. The first assumption concerns infinite substitutability; no matter what we need, we will always be able to find something else that will work just as well or better. The second assumption concerns infinite technological advancement; we will always be able to invent something that will either allow us to use a resource more efficiently and extend its life span, or we will invent something that will allow us to exploit a new resource and thus render the previously scarce resource obsolete. The major problem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first issue I will address is how hemp production can greatly reduce our dependence on petroleum. For example, hemp seed oil is easily converted to biodiesel. Biodiesel is an alternative fuel that can be made from any fat or oil and can be used in any diesel engine with little or no modification. Rudolph Diesel originally designed his engine to run on peanut oil. With a bounty of raw materials, and cheap and easy backyard production, it was slated to be the quot;people s fuel quot;. But when Lucas and the Hamill brothers struck oil at Spindletop, Texas, in 1901, ingenuity inevitably took a back seat to big business investment. Initial research has shown that biodiesel, liter for liter, generates about 90 percent of the heat of traditional fossil fuels, and the resulting air emissions are significantly lower in sulphur, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons. Burning these fuels also does not contribute to global warming. Fossil fuels increase the amount of carbon in the atmosphere because the carbon they release upon combustion has been locked away for millennia. The carbon released by the combustion of biodiesel first had to be removed from the atmosphere by the plant that produced the oils it was derived from. Thus, no net gain occurs when said carbon is released. Biodiesel is also safer for people and the environment since it is non toxic and biodegradable. Oil spills will no longer be multi million dollar environmental catastrophes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, a capitalistic, laissez faire approach to governing, particularly the form advocated by American Republicans. Never is there a more important time to have exemplary leadership, than in a time of war. Both the American Civil War and World War II showed what was possible through good leadership. From abolishing slavery and preserving the Union, to fighting tyranny and oppression abroad, both events in American history had a profound impact on all those involved. The impact would most certainly be different if not for the leadership of Colonel Lawrence Chamberlain of the Union Army during the Civil War and General George S. Patton during World War II. • 31. Characteristics Of Humility Of God The Meek Is Humble Before God Two Characteristics of Meekness Meekness could be examined by towards God and towards neighbors because these two are the objects of meekness. Craston structurally described a concept of meekness. He said that meekness is humility born of trustful submission to God in the first place, but it results in gentle, forgiving unselfishness towards others. This explanation shows the characteristics of meekness. His definition is composed of two parts; the first part is humility of God and it come from trustful submission . The second part is unselfishness towards others and it has mildness and pardon. Meekness towards God Meekness is partially overlapped concept with humility. Henry understood meekness as a gracious easiness to be wrought upon by that which is good. Brakel defined humility is the humble disposition of the heart of the believer. Meekness and humility both direct to a specific inclination of spirit. Then, what meekness and humility are different? Trench distinguished meekness from humility. He argued that humility is acknowledgement of creatureliness, of absolute dependence, of possessing nothing and of receiving all things from God. , and meekness is an inwrought grace of the soul that is exercised primarily toward God. When Craston argued that meekness is humility born of trustful submission to God in the first place , humility should come before meekness; in other words, humility would be a foundation of meekness in the light of its characteristics. However, according to Trench s distinction, humility is relatively more passive than meekness. Humility remains in understanding of creatureliness, and absolute dependence, but meekness is exercised primarily toward God. Word of God and Providence of God Thomas Watson understood that meekness towards God implies into submit to the word of God and the providence of God. Regarding the word of God, the meek will obey the word of God because he already understands necessities of absolute dependence on God. The meek will bear the word in his soul and humbly comply with the word. Furthermore, when the meek struggles with his flesh against the word, he will rebuke his corrupted flesh rather will ... • 35. Darwin And The Scientific Method Summary Darwin and the Scientific Method There has been an apparent disagreement between how Darwin conducted his experimentation and how he publicized his findings to the public. Ayala describes that Darwin follows and inductive approach derived from British philosophers such as John Stuart Mill and Francis Bacon; they believed in making observations without criticizing as to their significance and to gather several of them in order to reach a final conclusion. As Darwin traveled on the H.M.S. Beagle he was in pursuit of knowledge that required observation and experimentation, otherwise known as empirical evidence. In this case, he wanted to explain the origin of organisms and to see if his theory of natural selection is true. Darwin had the fear of being accused in making evaluations based on poorly measured results. There was this urge in formulating hypotheses that can be tested by observable experimentation rather than having ones that appear to be afterthoughts. It has been a false mindset that science advances by gathering experimental results and drawing a conclusion. Bacon and Mill suggested inductive reasoning as a way to gain empirical conclusions not based on personal feelings or opinions. Basically, an ideal scientist should observe any occurrence and record without worrying as to what the truth may be. However, every scientist must have a plan as to what kind event to study and obtain answers to questions they may have on something that interests them. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These people will then raise their children who will grow up alongside an entirely different set of norms than their parents had, bringing again a new type of people into society. Anna Garvey in her article, The Oregon Trail Generation: Life Before and After Mainstream Tech supports this idea. Having been part of a generation in between new and old values, she got to see first hand how new environments create different pressures and therefore cause individuals to conform and let themselves be changed by what these new expectations call for. As an environment changes, the way in which individuals interact with each other changes as well. The environment that a person is in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Third-Person Shooter Game Analysis In a third person shooter game, the player s character is seen on the screen whereas in a first person shooter game, the screen is viewed through the eyes of the character. The video game industry has made great advances since the 1970 s when gaming images were simplistic and therefore not very graphic nor realistic (Gentile, Lynch, Linder, Walsh, 2004). Nowadays, with the prevalence of highly violent and realistic video games involving person to person brutality, there are rising concerns regarding its effects on users real life thoughts and behaviors particularly in youth. Playing a first person shooter game blurs the line between fantasy and reality even more than third person because as a first shooter, the player feels as though he ... Bandura states people are more likely to attend to, recall, and imitate media violence that they believe could exist in real life (Bandura, 1965 as cited in Brewer, 2011, p.17). Also in first person shooter games, the player and his or her surroundings tends to look more realistic, such as in Grant Theft Auto. It has a higher rate of sensory realism, which refers to to formal features of a representation that progressively simulates the same experience in the natural environment (Williams Clippinger, 2002). When playing a first person shooter game, players may feel more personally targeted, since they are witnessing and conducting violent actions as if they are the character. This can lead players to experience higher levels of identification and engagement with the violence. For example, when describing the gaming experience, players of a first person game may say, I just got shot. Previous research has shown heighten aggression occurs as a result of playing first person video games, due to the player s identification with the virtual characters (Anderson Bushman, 2001, and Tamborini et al., 2004 as cited in Jeong, Biocca, Back, 2012, p.1842) enhancing of one s presence (Schneider et al., ... • 40. Kevin Durant s Cheating ?KD Ruined the NBA? This happens to be an incredibly popular statement that I have seen being used across social media. Many fans label Kevin Durant as a ?coward? or a ?snake? and claim that he ruined the landscape of the NBA. Throughout this article I am going to be talking about my thoughts on two differing perspectives: Kevin Durant couldn?t win so he left to win a guaranteed championship, and this is exactly the same type of rivalry we have seen throughout the history of the NBA. At the end, I will reveal my true personal opinion on the subject and my current thoughts about the Warriors and this series going forward. The Snake Here is a fact. In 2016, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook were up 3 1 in a series against the 73 win Warriors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has blossomed into a great rivalry and one that both organizations should be proud of. I am favoring the Warriors currently in this matchup. Last year, they just simply had too much firepower for the Cavaliers, even with Kyrie Irving. However, I?ve learned to NEVER count LeBron James out of the equation. If the Cavaliers happen to lose this year, I do not believe we will see James returning next season in a Cleveland jersey. If he ends up going to the 76ers, I am incredibly interested in how they are going to make that work. Maybe James will work more on his spot up shooting? They have two ball dominant forwards who are not spectacular shooters. Simmons would most likely play point guard, but still lacks the necessary jumper to be able to space the floor. For the most part, Embiid also needs the ball in his hands quite often to be efficient. It would also be interesting to see the long term effects this may have on their talent off the bench. They may give up some playing time, but they would also have the mentorship of one of the greatest players of all time on their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Reflection Of The Double Helix The Double Helix, written by James D. Watson, is an autobiographical portrayal of the race to discover the molecular structure DNA. The characters throughout the book consist of Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins, Linus Pauling, Peter Pauling, Rosalind Franklin, and Erwin Chargaff. Crick was Watson s partner in the discovery of DNA. Maurice Wilkins worked at King s College in London and made Watson s interest in DNA more prominent. Linus Pauling was a chemist at Caltech in California and was intensely close to beating Watson and Crick to the figuring out the structure of DNA. Rosalind Franklin worked under Maurice Wilkins at King s College faced gender bias as a woman. Sir Lawrence Bragg was the Director of the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge and the superior of Crick and Watson. Erwin Chargaff at Columbia University was the scientist who discovered the rules in the bonding of base pairs. Lastly, Peter Pauling gave Watson and Crick their last piece of evidence to identify the double helix. The story was narrated by James Watson, who earned his PhD in Zoology at Harvard. The book began by Watson explaining his co workers by giving his experiences with them. He explains how he himself ended up at the Cavendish Lab in Cambridge and met Francis. Watson is only interested in studying things he finds fascinating, with little to no education or interest in mathematics or chemistry, and he refuses to do so. • 42. How I Operate Within A Working Environment Introduction Self reflection is the key in gaining an outlook of a student s strengths and weaknesses. By understanding these characteristics, one can take action to improve upon them. Within this assignment I will discuss the tasks and challenges that the company Midland Heart has presented. This will involve reflecting upon such challenges to assess how I operate within a working environment. My primary role was to shadow the manager of the law team to study the ways in which she organises and communicate with her staff. The bulk of my role involved going through housing cases to understand how the law team is used as a function within the business. Furthermore I also worked with various other departments to understand their roles in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reality however, there were a number of times where I asked for assistance particularly regarding some of the legal documents. In retrospect, I should have asked for more detail about certain jobs to clarify some of the terms. Further to this I had to ensure that my progress was being monitored and developed and this was maintained by semi regular meetings and informal conversations. Reflecting on my first work placement, it was rare to have such meetings which often left it difficult to understand how my skills were being developed. Macduff (2012, p. 24) supports Cooks previous point going on to suggest that settling within the second year is seen as more advantageous as there is a natural improvement in confidence. Despite this I still struggled to confidently operate as Midland Heart was such a drastic difference to Savers. This oversight could have been avoided if I had discussed the issue with either my tutor or manager to gain an insight into the correct office etiquette. Networking One of the purposes of pursuing a work placement is to meet working people to understand how they work. Brooks (2012) establishes that networking within your organisation could also help an employee with future job opportunities. It was therefore important to utilise this opportunity to gain a number of contacts in a field that I was interested in. As my previous placement was in an organisation that I already worked for, it was difficult to find new contacts. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
