Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Would Have Approved of Young...
You can get up now, Watson. The war is over. (Columbus) Many readers may be familiar with the
Scottish physician and author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who wrote short stories about a famous
detective named Sherlock Holmes and his assistant, Dr. John H. Watson (Wilson). The 1985 film,
Young Sherlock Holmes is an imaginative creation of how Holmes and Watson met during their
younger years. In the beginning of the film, the viewers are introduced to the young detective
Sherlock Holmes and later introduced to Holmes close friend, Dr. John H. Watson. The viewers are
also introduced to Holmes nemesis Professor James Moriarty. The film displays a background for the
creation of Sherlock Holmes and how Holmes and Watson supposedly met during ... Show more

Rathe is a bright young man who runs the school that Holmes and Watson go to in London (Ebert).
Rathe takes Holmes under his wing and looks out for Holmes, pretending to befriend Holmes as he
investigates two murders of prominent men that have occurred in London (Shaffer). As Holmes
investigates the two murders, he begins to realize that there is a cult connected to the murders. The
victims were shot with a hallucinogen that caused the victims to have bizarre hallucinations that
resulted in death (Martel). The film Young Sherlock Holmes has gotten many praises for the quality of
the film. According to Christopher Null, the film portrays how Moriarty and Watson meet Holmes as
well as give an explanation to where the pipe, hat and Elementary! motto came from. Christopher Null
also mentions that the outline for Harry Potter came from Levinson s Young Sherlock Holmes (Null).
Michael Noble, another movie critic, agrees that Young Sherlock Holmes was possibly the beginning
of Harry Potter because both plots had two boys and one girl. Michael Noble further states that
Holmes and Potter had a similar starry destiny and that Holmes smart alec knowledge contributed to
the character Hermione in Harry Potter (Noble). Though many critics have different views of the film
Young Sherlock Holmes, the film introduces the viewers to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s work and his
famous characters that continue to exist even after the 19th century. Young Sherlock Holmes is

Characterism In American Psycho By Bret Easton Ellis
American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis was written in 1991. It is based around Patrick Bateman who
works on Wall Street and lives a lavish lifestyle. Bateman appears to just be a regular rich, bachelor. If
you look deeper Bateman has a dark side as a cruel serial killer. The common themes presented
throughout the book are greed, obliviousness, and reality vs appearance. The author, Ellis presents the
themes by depicting Bateman s life as he goes out and lives two very different lives. Patrick Bateman
and his high class friends enjoy to live an extravagant life. They often wear all designer clothes and
live in expensive apartments; I am wearing a mini houndstooth check wool suit with pleated trousers
by Hugo Boss, a silk tie, also by Hugo Boss, a cotton broadcloth shirt by Joseph Abboud and shoes
from Brooks Brothers (Ellis 64). Even with all that Bateman owns, he continues to seek more and
more; I m looking at Van Patten s card and then at mine and cannot believe that Price actually likes
Van Patten s better (Ellis 44). Bateman, who was having dinner with his friends, proudly displayed his
new business card when he felt one upped by Van Patten s business card. This took a hit to Bateman s
pride and he felt like he needed a nicer card than the rest of his friends. His constant desire to have the
best clothes, technology, and items shows how greedy he is. Throughout the novel many characters
display the theme of obliviousness through ignoring Bateman s confessions of

The Melian Dialogue, Written By Thucydides
The Melian Dialogue , written by Thucydides, is a classic argument mainly over power and realism
taken place under international politics. In this dialogue, consisting of the Athenians and the Melians,
the Athenians arrive on the island where the Melians had resided in attempt to conquer it. At this time,
the Athenians are at war with the Spartans and see that the island can only benefit them in the war.
Now, the Melians are kinsman of the Spartans, but they are a neutral state. The Athenians, however,
cannot accept the Melian s neutrality and offer them a kind ultimatum: pay tribute to state of Athens or
be destroyed. Later, the Athenians congregate with Melian representatives in order to reason with
them so they can accept their ultimatum. The Melians try to convince the Athenians one ... Show more

The Athenians also believe the Melians should carefully choose their fate and consider all the
possibilities rather than deliberately involving themselves in a war that they cannot fight. Yet the
Melians still believe that there is hope, and that the outcome of a war is not predictable nor
guaranteed. They also explain to the Athenians that if they attack their country, many awful
repercussions would ensue. As the Melians go on to list these repercussions, the Athenians oppose
each of their premises with their own reasoning. Ultimately, the Melian representatives conclude that
they would not surrender to the Athenians. Moreover, the Melian decision meant that they would
indeed go to war with the Athenians. As expected, the Melians were outnumbered and overpowered,
which forced them to do nothing but surrender to Athenians. Unfortunately, the Athenians put to death
all who were of military age, and made slaves of the women and

Ap Euro Calendar Dbq Essay
Explain the reasons for the adoption of a new calendar in revolutionary France and analyze reactions
to it in the period 1789 to 1806.
The adoption of the revolutionary calendar to replace the Gregorian calendar took place on November
24, 1793 by the National Convention. This new calendar lasted until Napoleon I abolished it in 1806.
The new calendar was a adopted in revolutionary France for many reasons including secular ideas and
political reasons. There were also many reactions to the change of calendar between 1789 and 1806
such a criticism.

This shows that the new calendar was more secular because with the new calendar people began to go
to church less (Document 10). The new calendar in revolutionary France, showed how France started
to move towards a more secular world.
A lot of people agreed with the adoption of the new calendar by revolutionary France for many
reasons. Gilbert Romme, head of the calendar reform committee, believed that the church calendar
was born among ignorant people. He said Time opens a new book for history, and it must use a new
pen to record the annals of a regenerated France. What Romme means by this is that since France is
going through new times, they need to change the calendar to fit it (Document 2). In Instruction
Concerning the Era of the Republic and the Division of the Year which was a decree of the National
Convention, it said that the new calendar will eliminate incoherence and inexactitude. This means that
with the new calendar people will be more exact and orderly because of more work days. It also states
that the new calendar will show the character of our revolution (Document 5). In the letter to the
National Convention from the village of St. Quirin, it says how the people spend their day of rest. In
the letter it says that they honor the memory of the generals who have become martyrs and they read
aloud the republican accomplishments. The people of the

women all over the world. Defined by the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No.
11, discrimination is Any distinction, exclusion or preference made on the basis of race, colour, sex,
religion, political opinion, national extraction or social origin, which has the effect of nullifying or
impairing equality of opportunity or treatment in employment or occupation. . As stated by Gillian

Case Synopsis
Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) is a privately held, debt free, company that is a
global leader in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software used for visualization and analysis
of geographic data by institutional users across the globe. ESRI has pioneered this technology for four
decades as it pursued its founder leader Jack Dangermond s mission to change the world by making it
spatially enabled. Since 2000, the world has changed. The new Internet companies have put electronic

By the end of 2006, many additional interactive features were available on these electronic maps. For
example, in addition to getting directions from one point to another, one could also look up real time
traffic along the route, in addition to locating a hotel on a map, one could also locate the nearby
businesses and tourist attractions. Related technologies started to appear in mobile devices from cell
phone to automobiles. Cars could be equipped with devices that linked to the satellite Global
Positioning System that could provide driving directions as well as local information as one drove
through an area, and cell phones could be tracked to their exact locations.
Jack s vision of a geographically enabled world was coming true, except that it was happening with
technologies and companies that were unrelated to ESRI or even GIS. Many of these companies and
technologies were not around in 1969, when Jack and Laura first started ESRI. Will this visionary
pioneer of geographic information systems be a pioneer in this geographically enabled world that they
have championed for four decades? What role will ESRI and GIS play in this new era? What
resources and capabilities does ESRI have and how should it deploy them in order to create its
position in this changing world? Will it continue to be the number one player in the market? How, if at
all, should ESRI be responding to the new technologies and companies that are redefining the market?

Hierarchy Of Effect Of Amazon
Introduction
Nowadays it is crucial for companies to understand and have a clear vision about trends and levels on
customer knowledge, preferences and behaviors, in order to develop with success their brand and
product strategy.
In effect, studies of awareness, attitudes and usage are made in way to measure these trends and they
are based on the theory of Hierarchy of Effects, assumption that explains the process with which the
consumer, primarily, starts to be aware about the product, with initial trial of it, and then, after
adoption of the product, he becomes loyal to it.
In this way companies can see how their reputation and competition increase, starting a growth

The Impact Of The Clean Air Act
The two most important laws governing the EPA were passed by Congress within a two year span of
Richard Nixon s presidency (The Atlantic, 2017). The Clean Air Act of 1970 states the EPA can set
standards for what kinds of toxic air pollutants can be released into the ambient air, and the Clean
Water Act of 1972, states the EPA can set standards for what pollutants can be released into lakes,
streams, and rivers, and requires polluters to obtain permits in order to pollute (The Atlantic, 2017).
Under the Obama Administration, the CAA and the CWA underwent major rule changes. On August 3,
2015, under the Obama Administration, the EPA finalized new rules or standards, that would reduce
carbon emissions from power plants. Prior to the rule, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The final version of the rule aimed to reduce national electricity sector emissions by an estimated 32
percent below the 2005 levels by 2030 (UCSUSA, 2016). The plan provided for a number of options
like investing in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and shifting away from coal fire power to cut
carbon emissions. It also determined state emissions reduction targets by estimating the extent to
which states can take advantage of each of them. The Trump Administration questioned EPA s
authority to regulate climate pollution from power plants. The Administration argued that under
section 112 of the CAA, EPA cannot regulate climate pollution from power plants since it is already
separately regulating different pollutants (Carbonell, 2016). Further, the Trump Administration
believes that the CPP is an illegal attempt to reorganize the nation s energy grid, an attack on the coal
industry and a job killer (Magill, 2016). It also believes that the Plan would cause unprecedented
regulatory overreach (Magill, 2016). Additionally, according to Harvard Law Professor Laurence
Tribe, the CPP violates the Fifth Amendment because it constitutes a regulatory taking by the federal
government, limiting a corporation s use of its coal plants without due compensation, and that it
violates the Tenth Amendment by coercing states into creating their own CO2 reduction plans or

The Characteristics Of Generation X And Generation
Chapter Two
Introduction Purpose
Motivation is the word derived from the word motive which means, needs, desires, wants or drives
within the individuals. It is the process of stimulating people to action to accomplish the goals. In the
work goal context the psychological factors stimulating the people s behavior can be desire for money,
success, recognition, job satisfaction, teamwork, etc. (Bolles, R. C. 1975.) We have certain needs or
wants these terms will be used interchangeably, and this causes you to do certain thing s behavior,
which satisfy those needs satisfaction, and this can then change which needs/wants are primary either
intensifying certain ones, or allowing you to move on to other ones. People seem to have different
wants. In chapter two we take a look at various characteristics of Generation X and Generation
starting with their backgrounds (Bolles, R. C. 1975).
Review of the Literature
Generation X
Gen Xers learned independence early in life and turned it into a valuable hallmark as they progressed
in the working world. Just as Gen Xers were about to hit the workforce to make their mark in the
world, the economic decline at the end of the 1980s occurred. ( Managing generation X: How to bring
out the best in young talent, 2001) Suddenly the future looked crowded. Competition for jobs was
tight. The American dream had changed. For the first time in history, this generation was being told

The Negative Effects Of The Great Sendai Earthquake
Natural disasters are a huge challenge for the planet because of the adverse effects that are associated
with them. One of the major earthquakes to have shaken the earth is the Great Sendai Earthquake or
Great Tōhoku Earthquake that occurred in 2011. The event started when a powerful earthquake hit the
northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011, and resulted in a widespread damage on land. A series of
massive tsunamis later devastated many parts of the coastal regions of the country with the worst
affected being the Tohoku region. The tsunami further resulted in a major nuclear accident that
damaged distant regions on a power station located along the coast. The economic effects of the
tsunami qualify it as one of the major natural disasters because it affected Japan s economic stability
as the country ended up resorting to importing as an alternative to cover the loss.
The intensity of the earthquake was a major factor because its magnitude played a huge role in the
damage that the disaster caused. It was reported to have hit a magnitude of 9 0 with the epicenter
being located at least 80 miles away. The focus was 18.6 miles lower than the western Pacific. The
result was a rapture of the subduction zone and thus led to the Japan Trench being affected. Several
foreshocks reached as much as 6.0 and greater effects that ended up acting on the land in the following
days and months even after the quake had subsided. The tsunami that accompanied the earthquake
originated from a fault along the convergent plate boundary at the section where the Pacific plate joins
with the west beneath Japan. The subduction zone was very active seismically at the time of the
occurrence of the earthquake. Thus based on my understanding of earthquakes, the March 11 disaster
was among the strongest earthquakes ever recorded because of the effects that followed because a
portion of the ocean trench immediately went off shore. In fact, it was later reported that a satellite that
was orbiting around the Earth, infrasonics could be detected on the outer edge of the Earth s
atmosphere. The low frequency waves meant that there were adverse effects that could be felt weeks
after the real disaster had hit, hence the reporting that it was the

Failure of Good Intentions to Produce Good Consequences in...
Dante Alighieri, an illustrious 13th century Italian poet, once said, The road to hell is paved with good
intentions (72). Indeed, many examples throughout history, society, and literature serve to typify this
axiom. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is the quintessential example of this adage. The play
demonstrates that good intentions can result in negative consequences. Romeo s designs, honorable as
they are, lead to demise for both him and other characters. In addition, the Nurse s desire for Juliet s
happiness unintentionally alienates Juliet. Finally, Friar Lawrence s union of Romeo and Juliet and
Capulet s arranged marriage of Juliet and Paris exemplify that laudable objectives can lead to chagrin.

v. 240). In critical moments, such as Juliet s decision to fake her own death, guidance from an older
figure would have benefitted her. Despite that the Nurse means well, her potential reprise because of
this collusion epitomizes the truth in Aldous Huxley s wry maxim, Hell isn t merely paved with good
intentions; it s walled and roofed with them. Yes, and furnished too (151). The Nurse s disclosure of
the forbidden love and her recommendation of Paris to Juliet exemplify the theme that the best aims
can result in unforeseen consequences. Romeo s perseverance of civility and vengeance of Mercutio s
death also illustrate that good intentions do not always lead to good consequences. Immediately
following Romeo s marriage to Juliet, Romeo is approached in the streets by the belligerent Tybalt.
When Tybalt and Mercutio begin to fight, Romeo tries to maintain the peace by positioning himself
between the two. Inadvertently, he obscures Mercutio s field of view, preventing Mercutio from
defending Tybalt s blow. Mercutio accuses Romeo of single handedly causing his downfall, to which
Romeo replies, I thought all for the best (III. i. 100). Guilt stricken, Romeo avenges his friend s death
by discarding his clemency and slaying Tybalt in a moment of uncontrolled anger. This results in a
multitude of adverse effects: Romeo s banishment from Verona, Juliet s arranged marriage to Paris,
and Lady Montague s death. Romeo s attempt to keep the peace and the revenge he seeks on

Nevertheless, they still could prove to be beneficial towards my final project.
Regarding my question, I am trying to find a variety of sources which portray differing perspectives as
I not only intend on recounting the actions of the West German Authorities, but also portray differing
views and criticisms of their response. From what I have gathered from my initial research, these
historical interpretations don t necessarily derive from specific schools of thought (as the event is quite
recent) but more so from differing sociopolitical/cultural regions of the world. These include a
Western view, such as American Simon Reeve, Israeli view such as Yarin Kimor and German
perspective such as Manfried Schreiber. Furthermore, some of these sources aren t necessarily
historical scholars but rather journalists, experts in their respective field, or simply significant
characters surrounding the crisis.
Another one of the major issues surrounding this topic is the limited amount of information readily
available. However, I have not let that deter me in fact I have used it as a motivating force. I believe
that this essay will, to a degree, be groundbreaking, as it looks specifically at the numerous errors and
inadequate preparation by the West Germans. This is something very few of the texts I have

Daily Formative Assessment
I believe assessment is important and is the basis of planning for instruction, whether it is diagnostic
prior to learning, formative during units or lessons, or summative to evaluate student learning. Rowan
s quote in Every Teacher s Guide to Assessment, After all, in the end, the problem is less the idea of
testing itself, but how we design them, apply, them, and make use of their data. definitely has an
impact on my assessment practices. I feel it is necessary to make sure the student acquires all aspects
of the learning. Assessment should be used to bring a value for students. Within my instruction, I
implement daily formative assessments which may include turn and share, quick writes, graphic
organizers, online discussion responses, KahootIt, and other forms. Designing the appropriate
formative assessment to match the lesson is important to assess how the learning is taught and whether
the students are showing progress. In addition, I have worked on building blocks of formative
assessments in checklist style leading up to the point of reviewing for a summative test. Each of these
are checked off as completed and instant feedback is given. Feedback from an assessment is essential
to student learning and how a teacher will ensure the content is being acquired. ... Show more content

The water budgets of Berkeley, Ca., and Terre Haute, In., are greatly affected by their respective
geographies, topographies, climates and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Terre Haute lies in an area described as a humid, subtropical climate, a Cfa on the Koppen Letter Code
System. This area is a mild, mid latitude climate characterized by warm to hot summers, precipitation
with a summer maximum, and mild winter temperatures. Both Berkeley and Terre Haute lie within
relatively the same latitudes, however, Berkeley lies in an area stabilized by the poleward migration of
the subtropical high and relatively cool water of the Pacific Ocean (Hess, 2013). This brings dry
weather to Berkeley. Terre Haute, however, does not benefit from this stability, and continues to
experience precipitation throughout the summer months. In the areas of the Eastern United States, this
effect is also contributed to by the influence of tropical cyclones.
Berkeley, according to www.usclimatedata.com, has its highest precipitation levels during December
thru February, which is typical of Csa climates (Hess, 2013). This peak of rainfall that is unbalanced
with a typical increase of water demand during summer greatly stresses the water budget, and can
result in a sever water deficit during summer months. Californians struggled with this through the
summer of 2014, and according to an article by National Geographic, California will struggle with a
water deficit of the amount necessary to provide water to 1.5 million homes. This is not only due to
the climate of the region, but as it specifically applies to Berkeley,

Identify and explain at least three legal considerations
When considering the legalities of this scenario, negligence, vicarious liability, and physician patient
relationship are a few components that affect the outcome of a lawsuit. The amount of legal torts that
were violated in this case was enough to cause disputes between patients and healthcare staff.
Negligence is a familiar tort that occurs much more than it needs too. Unfortunately in this case,
vicarious liability and patient physician relationship are two considerations that influence this case as
well. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though it may not be a legal commitment, but days when an emergency situation is at hand healthcare
staff should make use of good ethical practice and be present for work.
Administering the wrong prescription for a patient can be viewed as a negligent act as well as a bad
ethical decision. As much as this act leans more towards negligence, it is only right to assume the
existence of poor ethical standards. If nurse maintained a high standard and value towards occupation,
the right medication would have been giving to the patient.
Identify and explain at least three professional considerations The three professional considerations
that pertain to this case are similar to the ethical considerations. It was unprofessional for the nurses to
call off, leave patients un attended, and also breaking the patient legal duty to provide proper service
to patients. According to (makely), enhancing professionalism has become a major challenge for
healthcare educators, employers, and personnel (2009).
As a healthcare professional, the nurses in this case don t necessarily lack skills of being nurses but
simply lack the attitude of a professional. In situations similar to this case, nurses should have been
more concerned with the patients and should have made it an obligation to be present for work.
Leaving patients unattended while taking a break during an emergency

The Outsiders Book Vs Movie
Β¨ The Outsiders movie and novel are both very adventurous and extraordinary. They are very similar in
many different ways. However, they are also very different from each other. The movie and novel
share similar qualities. For example, they both have the same deaths that take place at the same
organized time. Ponyboy, Sodapop and Darry s parents die first, then Bob, lastly Johnny and Dally.
When Johnny and Ponyboy killed Bob, the movie and novel both had the same solution. When they
killed Bob, they immediately went to Dally for help and the supplies they would need. Although they
have a whole bunch of similarities, they also have many differences. Although the movie and novel
have many similarities, they have quite a lot of differences

Mental Deterioration In Hamlet
Madness does not have an exact cause but, rather it is the combination of psychological and
environmental factors that can cause mental deterioration. Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of Hamlet,
Prince of Denmark has the reoccurring theme of madness demonstrated through the protagonist s
downward spiral into insanity. Therefore, Shakespeare s tragic hero, Hamlet, throughout the course of
his journey, undergoing traumatic events, communications with the supernatural and his inability to
decipher right from wrong, ultimately prove his mental state to have been affected, making him mad.
Repeated exposure to tragic events can trigger traumatic stress being a detrimental factor to an
individual s mental state. In The Tragedy of Hamlet, the protagonist, ... Show more content on

Hamlet s insanity peaks when he loses his principles of respecting human life. Hamlet shows no
remorse, Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell. /I took thee for thy better. Take thy fortune. /
Thou find st to be too busy is some danger (III.iv.185). He realizes he mistakenly killed the wrong
man, yet Hamlet shows no sign of regret for killing Polonius. Hamlet s lack of empathy corroborates
to the idea that his madness causes him to lose his humanity. In the beginning of the play, Hamlet
proves to be meticulous when it comes to attain revenge, however, Hamlet s madness escalated to the
point where Polonius is carelessly killed. Hamlet having experienced parental loss and knowing the
suffering it brings, in a right state of mind, no sane person would wish that suffering onto another
person. Author Barbara, notes, The loss of her [Ophelia s] father her link to emotional security once
she can no longer trust in her own perceptions is the final, fatal assault on her tenuous mental stability
and survival instinct (Smith 98).. Hamlet is insanely consumed with revenge that he has become
murderous and insensitive for not thinking about the sorrow and grief it will give Laertes and Ophelia.
Hamlet s actions are altered by his madness making him unaware that he is the indirect cause of
Ophelia s madness. When Hamlet s kills Polonius he becomes conscienceless, nonetheless,
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s killings show the cynical side of Hamlet s madness. He tells Horatio
about, [Rosencrantz s and Guildenstern s] defeat/ Does by their own insinuation grow. / Tis dangerous
when the baser nature comes / Between the pass and fell incensed points (V. ii. 62 65). Hamlet s
inability to decipher right from wrong proves his level of insanity. He blames his friends of treason,

Essay about Good Man Hard to Find
Good Man Hard to Find O Connor s A Good Man Is Hard to Find
In A Good Man Is hard to Find, Flannery O Conner really puts the reader in the middle class mode and
throws a little religion at us. By this I mean that she takes us to an important part of her mind and soul.
One could even say that she lets the Devil come out in her own little way.
In reading A Good Man is Hard to Find, we find ourselves in a setting of a lower middle class family
with a dominant mother, annoying grandmother and a whinny mother in law. I tend to believe that she
is to be the main character. The grandmother is representative of godliness and Christianity. However
just from this one story I get the feeling that she could be telling of ... Show more content on

OConner was trying to put the question of Religion to the reader. What has happened to the World ? It
had become complicated. Here you have a dear old lady just trying to get her only son to take her
where she wants to go. Consider the Christian idea of evil as opposed to a divine nation of the good.
The characters usually are acting from right intentions, but they end up attempting to inflict their ideas
of what is good on those who don t agree them, those not so fortunate. She shows us how violent the
recipients of this good can become and how they resist it and react to it , Religion that is. Who was the
momentary messiah, the on the spot Jesus the Judas mother giving up her son in hopes that she might
live? These are questions I thought O Connor was asking in A Good Man is Hard to Find.
Grandma, I believe it is all her making and doing. She brought the family to the situation. She
provoked the Killer. The killer s statements about his life especially his own father reflects he too was
subject to religious questions. and the fact that the lifestyles of the southern whites were descending is
evidence of society s demise is blended into the story, and presented through an interesting generation

Abstract
The information age has brought with it the need to secure computer networks against unauthorized
access, data manipulation and identification protection. There is no such thing as 100% secure or if an
attacker wants something bad enough they will get it , is heard often when information assurance is
discussed. In fact, as one Information Security professional well knows, when a defense is developed
to stop the breach, the enemy exhausts all means to find another way to get to the information/data or
the golden nugget . This game of cat and mouse is no more omnipresent than in the field of Risk
Management. One of the many important tools used to fight the good fight against nefarious groups is
the Risk Assessment. The risk assessment application being developed is no stranger to these cyber
delinquents and is developed with a blend of the top recommendations from the various agencies. The
RAAPP will increase the feasibility of conducting a risk assessment; thereby increasing the frequency
risk assessments are conducted in order to fortify operations and protect the golden nugget .
Discussion

Analysis Of Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Chinua Achebe, was a nigerian writer, poet, critic, and professor. Born and raised in south east nigeria,
Achebe became curious and fascinated with traditional African cultures and religions as he grew up.
Then, as a university student studying English Literature, he starting writing stories and in 1959, he
eventually created Things Fall Apart, a story that depicts african imperialism in the 1800s and 1900s
and captures the rapid changes that occurred in african culture during that time. . This novel received
attention and praise from the whole world, Chinua Achebe suddenly became renowned for his literary
workmanship and went on to publish many more creations. Living in Lagos, Achebe witnessed the
issues with development from old to new cultures in African communities. Europeans envisioned
africans as uncivilized and most were not enlightened of the post colonial conditions and freedom in
Africa. These factors prompted Achebe to inform the world about Africa s real identity and establish a
new voice in African literature. The viewpoint of Achebe was biased to some extent when writing this
novel, as someone who came from africa and had a goal of restoring his country s cultural dignity, but
it also provided a unique point of view and a story produced from real life experiences. This book by
Chinua Achebe is known as a historical fiction, the characters and events did not occur in the past, but
they were devised according to historical occurrences and are correct in terms

Firstly, two cities came to mind; London and Lagos. In first attempt, let s take London as an urban city

These immigrants have also touched on the excellent cuisine culture of the British population so much
so that some of the diets of these other cultures have been incorporated into the British cuisine.
Consequently, it is apparent that some benefits can be derived from multiculturalism in an urban city

With this gain come also the down side of life. Growth in the population can also lead to other factors
that can have adverse effect on the population growth; overcrowding, unemployment, human traffic
and a lot more. Therefore in order to minimise the extent of such problem, a lot of housing projects
sprung up in the 1960s to ease congestion at that time. So these houses weren t meant to attract but to

replaced with more modern buildings and affordable ones especially in areas that were once deemed

behaviour of migrants and their adaption to the new life. When the going gets tough on the citizens,

Micro Controller At Mega
Micro Controller AT Mega 328 In the area of control and automation, the need for some processing
unit became indispensable in a wide variety of applications. Among these, microcontrollers stand as a
lower cost alternative, satisfactory reliability, simplicity, reduced consumption energy, however, with
limited memory capacity and processing.
A microcontroller contains a processor, memory access and peripheral input / output. It is a
microprocessor that can be programmed for specific functions, in contrast to other general purpose
microprocessors (such as those used in PCs). Basically, the use of a microcontroller is in the
processing of data from one of your peripherals, with the set of output data. For example, send data
via serial port or generate a reaction in system as an LED light.
The architecture of a microcontroller generally consists of a core processing, bus and Peripherals:
Processing core consists of the data processor (calculations, flow control program, etc.) and
administration of peripherals.
Bus is divided into data and address, is on the lines of communication between the processor and
peripherals.
Peripherals characterize the set of features available by the microcontroller and are controlled by the
processor. For example, memory, serial port, parallel port and AD converter.
Microcontrollers are typically used in automation and control products and peripherals, such as
control systems of automotive engines, remote controls, machines, etc.

Marginal Costs And Its Effect On Market Efficiency
Marginal costs and benefits are utilized as a form of measurement of costs and benefits at a specific
level of production and consumption. Everyday individuals, groups, and institutions make decisions
based on our marginal evaluations of the alternatives. They do this by asking questions: What will it
cost to produce one more unit , and What benefit will be received by acquiring one more unit ? In this
essay, the author will define and discuss marginal costs and benefits and their effect on market
efficiency in the presence or absence of externalities.
What Are Marginal Costs and Marginal Benefits?
Marginal benefit is the gain you receive for doing anything one more time (Urban Economics, 8E).

However, once they have one, they will only consider buying a second widget at 20 dollars. If they
buy a second widget from your shop, it is based solely on the value laden perception that the widget s
benefit is worth the 20 dollars. If the consumers do not perceive that the widget has 20 dollars benefit
or use, they will not purchase another widget at the 20 dollar price level. Therefore, if your shop wants
the consumer to buy widgets, the owner must either lower the price or offer some other promotional
benefit. Consumers marginal benefit is also referred to as marginal utility (Urban Economics, 8E).
According to the law of diminishing marginal utility, as a person increases consumption of a product,
while keeping consumption of other products constant, there is a decline in the marginal utility that
person derives from consuming each additional unit of that product (Urban Economics, 8E). As the
marginal benefit for widgets declines among your customer base, so does the price they are willing to
pay which in turn affects your marginal benefit as a widget producer.
Marginal cost is the total cost you incur to produce one more unit (Urban Economics, 8E). Following
the example from the previous paragraph, it is the cost to make one more widget. Since, marginal
costs are

Spread of United States Culture through Technology Essay
Abstract
In today s society, the way in which information is spread drastically differs from that of yesterday,
especially in different parts of the world more specifically, the Commonwealth of Nations.
As the United States continues to dominate almost every aspect of the world, including culture, many
different nations scurry to keep up with them, sometimes adopting an identity which is in great
contrast to their own, and in many cases, shadow their own identity as a whole. With the ever
advancing technology, the spreading of U.S. culture seems to be easier, and this has many countries
worried. Hence, a reason or need to censor what enters the country via print, airwaves or Internet.

Some governments are uncomfortable with the fact that the United States seems to pose a better
lifestyle to their people and try to limit the amount of American shows imported, or the amount of
time the shows are viewed.
In Jamaica, for instance, there is currently one local television station, the JBC (Jamaica Broadcasting
Corporation). However, it does not broadcast until late afternoon (around 4 or 5 o clock). The first half
hour is cartoons (imported from the United States). Then, for the next two to three hours there is
nothing but local programs, including news, gardening and cooking shows, local sitcoms, the most
popular being Lime Tree Lane, Titus, and the long running Oliver at Large, all of which contain
Jamaican actors. The quality of the shows is shoddy mainly because there is not much of a budget and
resources are limited.
Most of the citizens especially those without a satellite do not see an American on television until later
in the evening (around 8 or 9 o clock), and it is only for a couple of hours, as the station quits
broadcasting for the day at around 11. The government does this in an attempt to lessen the influence
of American culture on their society.
In the Bahamas the story is a little different. There is one local television station, ZNS (Zephyr Nassau
Sunshine), however, most people own satellites and antennae, allowing them to receive more stations.
The government sees nothing wrong with this, and to some

The Advantage And Disadvantages Of Being An Instrument
Being stubborn has its advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is that it leads to being dedicated
for everything you start. In middle school, specifically in fifth grade, band class and being able to
learn an instrument is first introduced to students. Many people sign up, trying out instruments until
they find one they enjoy. I, along with a handful of other people in my grade, joined a year late. Not
only was I a year late, but I also missed sign ups again, and joined a few months into my sixth grade
year. My first choice was percussion, but because I was so late, I was not able to join the percussion if
i wanted to reach up to the level my classmates were at. So I tried out on flute, saxophone, and
clarinet, and instantly fell in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

on an instrument no one played in our band. She had asked if anyone wanted to learn the instrument

instrument is it?
An oboe. Everyone started laughing. We had never even heard of this. While it seemed everyone else
just had brushed it off after having their laughs, I was intrigued. It amazed me that there was more
than just the basic 7 instruments we had first heard of. So, reluctantly, I raised my hand. I was
expecting her to be excited that someone had offered. Instead, she looked at me with worry in her eyes
and said, Are you sure? You might want to keep working with the clarinet. I didn t let that change my
mind. I nodded my head and she said, Okay, I ll bring it in tomorrow. That night, I went home and
researched everything I needed to know. From how to care for the reed, how to clean it properly, and
how to play it. I was ready.
I was excited to tell my parents. When I told them, they had almost the same reaction as my band
director. They told me I should focus on the instrument I had now. I told them I wanted to learn a
different instrument and that I was dedicated on playing it in the concert.

  • 3. Characterism In American Psycho By Bret Easton Ellis American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis was written in 1991. It is based around Patrick Bateman who works on Wall Street and lives a lavish lifestyle. Bateman appears to just be a regular rich, bachelor. If you look deeper Bateman has a dark side as a cruel serial killer. The common themes presented throughout the book are greed, obliviousness, and reality vs appearance. The author, Ellis presents the themes by depicting Bateman s life as he goes out and lives two very different lives. Patrick Bateman and his high class friends enjoy to live an extravagant life. They often wear all designer clothes and live in expensive apartments; I am wearing a mini houndstooth check wool suit with pleated trousers by Hugo Boss, a silk tie, also by Hugo Boss, a cotton broadcloth shirt by Joseph Abboud and shoes from Brooks Brothers (Ellis 64). Even with all that Bateman owns, he continues to seek more and more; I m looking at Van Patten s card and then at mine and cannot believe that Price actually likes Van Patten s better (Ellis 44). Bateman, who was having dinner with his friends, proudly displayed his new business card when he felt one upped by Van Patten s business card. This took a hit to Bateman s pride and he felt like he needed a nicer card than the rest of his friends. His constant desire to have the best clothes, technology, and items shows how greedy he is. Throughout the novel many characters display the theme of obliviousness through ignoring Bateman s confessions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the Melians go on to list these repercussions, the Athenians oppose each of their premises with their own reasoning. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The final version of the rule aimed to reduce national electricity sector emissions by an estimated 32 percent below the 2005 levels by 2030 (UCSUSA, 2016). The plan provided for a number of options like investing in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and shifting away from coal fire power to cut carbon emissions. It also determined state emissions reduction targets by estimating the extent to which states can take advantage of each of them. The Trump Administration questioned EPA s authority to regulate climate pollution from power plants. The Administration argued that under section 112 of the CAA, EPA cannot regulate climate pollution from power plants since it is already separately regulating different pollutants (Carbonell, 2016). Further, the Trump Administration believes that the CPP is an illegal attempt to reorganize the nation s energy grid, an attack on the coal industry and a job killer (Magill, 2016). It also believes that the Plan would cause unprecedented regulatory overreach (Magill, 2016). • 12. The Characteristics Of Generation X And Generation Chapter Two Introduction Purpose Motivation is the word derived from the word motive which means, needs, desires, wants or drives within the individuals. It is the process of stimulating people to action to accomplish the goals. In the work goal context the psychological factors stimulating the people s behavior can be desire for money, success, recognition, job satisfaction, teamwork, etc. (Bolles, R. C. 1975.) We have certain needs or wants these terms will be used interchangeably, and this causes you to do certain thing s behavior, which satisfy those needs satisfaction, and this can then change which needs/wants are primary either intensifying certain ones, or allowing you to move on to other ones. People seem to have different wants. In chapter two we take a look at various characteristics of Generation X and Generation starting with their backgrounds (Bolles, R. C. 1975). Review of the Literature Generation X Gen Xers learned independence early in life and turned it into a valuable hallmark as they progressed in the working world. Just as Gen Xers were about to hit the workforce to make their mark in the world, the economic decline at the end of the 1980s occurred. • 13. The Negative Effects Of The Great Sendai Earthquake Natural disasters are a huge challenge for the planet because of the adverse effects that are associated with them. One of the major earthquakes to have shaken the earth is the Great Sendai Earthquake or Great Tōhoku Earthquake that occurred in 2011. The event started when a powerful earthquake hit the northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011, and resulted in a widespread damage on land. A series of massive tsunamis later devastated many parts of the coastal regions of the country with the worst affected being the Tohoku region. The tsunami further resulted in a major nuclear accident that damaged distant regions on a power station located along the coast. The economic effects of the tsunami qualify it as one of the major natural disasters because it affected Japan s economic stability as the country ended up resorting to importing as an alternative to cover the loss. The intensity of the earthquake was a major factor because its magnitude played a huge role in the damage that the disaster caused. It was reported to have hit a magnitude of 9 0 with the epicenter being located at least 80 miles away. The focus was 18.6 miles lower than the western Pacific. The result was a rapture of the subduction zone and thus led to the Japan Trench being affected. Several foreshocks reached as much as 6.0 and greater effects that ended up acting on the land in the following days and months even after the quake had subsided. The tsunami that accompanied the earthquake originated from a fault along the convergent plate boundary at the section where the Pacific plate joins with the west beneath Japan. The subduction zone was very active seismically at the time of the occurrence of the earthquake. Thus based on my understanding of earthquakes, the March 11 disaster was among the strongest earthquakes ever recorded because of the effects that followed because a portion of the ocean trench immediately went off shore. In fact, it was later reported that a satellite that was orbiting around the Earth, infrasonics could be detected on the outer edge of the Earth s atmosphere. The low frequency waves meant that there were adverse effects that could be felt weeks after the real disaster had hit, hence the reporting that it was the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Indeed, many examples throughout history, society, and literature serve to typify this axiom. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is the quintessential example of this adage. The play demonstrates that good intentions can result in negative consequences. Romeo s designs, honorable as they are, lead to demise for both him and other characters. In addition, the Nurse s desire for Juliet s happiness unintentionally alienates Juliet. Finally, Friar Lawrence s union of Romeo and Juliet and Capulet s arranged marriage of Juliet and Paris exemplify that laudable objectives can lead to chagrin. The theme that the best ... Yes, and furnished too (151). The Nurse s disclosure of the forbidden love and her recommendation of Paris to Juliet exemplify the theme that the best aims can result in unforeseen consequences. Romeo s perseverance of civility and vengeance of Mercutio s death also illustrate that good intentions do not always lead to good consequences. Immediately following Romeo s marriage to Juliet, Romeo is approached in the streets by the belligerent Tybalt. When Tybalt and Mercutio begin to fight, Romeo tries to maintain the peace by positioning himself between the two. Inadvertently, he obscures Mercutio s field of view, preventing Mercutio from defending Tybalt s blow. Mercutio accuses Romeo of single handedly causing his downfall, to which Romeo replies, I thought all for the best (III. i. 100). Guilt stricken, Romeo avenges his friend s death by discarding his clemency and slaying Tybalt in a moment of uncontrolled anger. This results in a multitude of adverse effects: Romeo s banishment from Verona, Juliet s arranged marriage to Paris, and Lady Montague s death. As the marginal benefit for widgets declines among your customer base, so does the price they are willing to pay which in turn affects your marginal benefit as a widget producer. Marginal cost is the total cost you incur to produce one more unit (Urban Economics, 8E). Following the example from the previous paragraph, it is the cost to make one more widget. • 33. Spread of United States Culture through Technology Essay Abstract In today s society, the way in which information is spread drastically differs from that of yesterday, especially in different parts of the world more specifically, the Commonwealth of Nations. As the United States continues to dominate almost every aspect of the world, including culture, many different nations scurry to keep up with them, sometimes adopting an identity which is in great contrast to their own, and in many cases, shadow their own identity as a whole. With the ever advancing technology, the spreading of U.S. culture seems to be easier, and this has many countries worried. Hence, a reason or need to censor what enters the country via print, airwaves or Internet. In Global Communications of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some governments are uncomfortable with the fact that the United States seems to pose a better lifestyle to their people and try to limit the amount of American shows imported, or the amount of time the shows are viewed. In Jamaica, for instance, there is currently one local television station, the JBC (Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation). However, it does not broadcast until late afternoon (around 4 or 5 o clock). The first half hour is cartoons (imported from the United States). Then, for the next two to three hours there is nothing but local programs, including news, gardening and cooking shows, local sitcoms, the most popular being Lime Tree Lane, Titus, and the long running Oliver at Large, all of which contain Jamaican actors. The quality of the shows is shoddy mainly because there is not much of a budget and resources are limited. Most of the citizens especially those without a satellite do not see an American on television until later in the evening (around 8 or 9 o clock), and it is only for a couple of hours, as the station quits broadcasting for the day at around 11. The government does this in an attempt to lessen the influence of American culture on their society. In the Bahamas the story is a little different. There is one local television station, ZNS (Zephyr Nassau Sunshine), however, most people own satellites and antennae, allowing them to receive more stations. The government sees nothing wrong with this, and to some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Advantage And Disadvantages Of Being An Instrument Being stubborn has its advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is that it leads to being dedicated for everything you start. In middle school, specifically in fifth grade, band class and being able to learn an instrument is first introduced to students. Many people sign up, trying out instruments until they find one they enjoy. I, along with a handful of other people in my grade, joined a year late. Not only was I a year late, but I also missed sign ups again, and joined a few months into my sixth grade year. My first choice was percussion, but because I was so late, I was not able to join the percussion if i wanted to reach up to the level my classmates were at. So I tried out on flute, saxophone, and clarinet, and instantly fell in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It wasn t until about a month in that my band director told my class that there was a solo piece needed on an instrument no one played in our band. She had asked if anyone wanted to learn the instrument and the music. The room was quiet and stayed quiet until another clarinet player asked, What instrument is it? An oboe. Everyone started laughing. We had never even heard of this. While it seemed everyone else just had brushed it off after having their laughs, I was intrigued. It amazed me that there was more than just the basic 7 instruments we had first heard of. So, reluctantly, I raised my hand. I was expecting her to be excited that someone had offered. Instead, she looked at me with worry in her eyes and said, Are you sure? You might want to keep working with the clarinet. I didn t let that change my mind. I nodded my head and she said, Okay, I ll bring it in tomorrow. That night, I went home and researched everything I needed to know. From how to care for the reed, how to clean it properly, and how to play it. I was ready. I was excited to tell my parents. When I told them, they had almost the same reaction as my band director. They told me I should focus on the instrument I had now. I told them I wanted to learn a different instrument and that I was dedicated on playing it in the concert. That week, I practiced every night. I learned the do s and dont s, the ups and downs, everything that I needed to know. Every band class, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
