Nixon Impeachment
Impeachment
With rumors of impeachment beginning to circulate, Nixon finally agreed to turn over the subpoenaed
White House tapes. The committee listened to the recordings and discovered an 18 minute gap on one
of the tapes. It was surmised that someone had erased part of the tape, but investigators were unable to
determine exactly what had happened. In March 1974, seven former presidential aides were indicted
on charges of conspiracy to hinder the Watergate investigation, and Nixon was named as an unindicted
co conspirator. On July 24, the Supreme Court voted unanimously to order Nixon to release the rest of
the White House recordings, considering them evidence in the case that came to be known as the
United States v. Nixon.

On August 8, 1974, President Nixon addressed the nation and announced that he would become the
first president ever to resign. The following day, Vice President Gerald Ford was sworn in as the 38th
president of the United States. Ford, a former House Minority leader, had been chosen by Nixon to
succeed Vice President Spiro Agnew, who was forced to resign due to earlier charges of bribery and
income tax evasion. Ford was the first man to become chief executive of the nation as a result of the
resignation of a president, and without having been elected president or vice president. He nominated
Nelson Rockefeller as his vice president.
Aftermath
On September 8, 1974, President Ford pardoned Nixon of all charges related to the Watergate scandal.
His political career destroyed, Nixon spent the remainder of his life attempting to repair his shattered
reputation. He died on April 22, 1994 at the age of 81.
During the course of the Watergate investigation, it was discovered that nearly forty different
corporations and individual executives had made illegal contributions to both parties during the 1972
presidential campaign. As a result, Congress enacted sweeping campaign finance reforms in 1974,
limiting the amount of contributions to political campaigns and establishing guidelines for the detailed
accounting and reporting of donations and

Urban Transport Problems And Environmental Problems
The term megacity refers to a densely populated, metropolitan area in which the total population
exceeds ten million people. Megacities tend to be thriving centers for cultural and economic progress
with a high rate of economic development. Of the 24 cities worldwide that are currently classed as
megacities, many of them are the capital city of a country, such as Paris, London, Tokyo, Beijing, and
Seoul, (Citypopulation.de, 2014). In recent years, with the rapid development of the economy, many
large cities around the world have been reclassified as megacities, particularly in developing countries.
As megacities develop, a lot of challenges and problems develop too, for example: high population,
urban transport problems and environmental problems. This essay will describe the main challenges
and possible solution. The first challenge is due to high population. A quick rise in population will
cause housing and food shortages and a rise in the price of general living. According to Yujun, Z.
(2011), in developing countries, the fastest population growth rate will be 7 8% annually; a burden in
most developing countries is that there is no population control, for example, in Beijing, China. By the
end of 2013, according to census data in China, the population of Beijing will be over 20 million.
Huge population problems for the city s infrastructure have brought tremendous pressure, housing and
food shortages. Grain yield is lower than the population growth rate so many people

is poverty the main factor affect crime
Introduction
In the essay I m going to talk about criminology and criminology is the scientific study of crime and
criminals. Is one social group involved in crime more than other social groups? Crime is an unlawful
act punishable by the state, harmful act or omission against the public which the state wishes to
prevent and which, upon conviction is punishable by fine, imprisonment and in some countries death.
No conduct constitutes a crime unless it is declared criminal in the laws of the country and poverty is
the state of being extremely poor and being without things, having little money, not many material
possessions and the need of essential goods. Being poor means people have nothing and struggle to
survive every day. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

MARXISM AND CRIME
Marxist theory in general is that they believe that capitalism can only thrive though the explerations of
the working class, Marxist believes that they re a clear link between human nature and the way we
operate in a capitalist society. Marxist believes that capitalism is not only an economic system but is
also a political system, Marxist believe that a key role in the control of the proletariat is the use of
alienation in all aspects of society ; this provides the bourgeoisie with a supple mass of workers who
do not mind working for external rewards of a constant wage.
Some people say that the main factor that links in with crime is poverty and strong example of people

Ethical Dilemma Of The Antibiotic

Ethical Dilemma Assignment
NR 328 Pediatric
Chamberlain University

INTRODUCTION
This dilemma is for a 2 week old baby diagnosed with a gastrointestinal perforation two days after
birth, which was later corrected with a temporary ileostomy. It is not clear how long the baby will
have the stoma for, but it will be corrected with a reanastamosis eventually. The baby is going to
continue antibiotics after discharge per doctor recommendation.
Ethical Dilemma Statement
Should we suggest that the baby goes home on oral antibiotics after discharge?
The benefits of this would be that the delivery of the antibiotic is less invasive. It will also decrease
her risk for further infection. This could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can lead to more complications such as further infection or sepsis. IV antibiotic therapy may
result in phlebitis, extravasation injury, thrombosis, and bacteremia (NCBI, 2015). This is dangerous
for a newborn, especially since she is just getting over an infection from her bowel perforation.
The author heard about this pediatric ethical dilemma in this way: My clinical instructor allowed me
to attend the NICU. Upon arrival of this unit, I was paired off with a nurse who was taking care of two
neonates. I shadowed the nurse and assisted her with caring for the infants, and became aware of this
baby s condition and plan of care.
The people involved in this dilemma were the MD, the baby, her father, mother, and nurse.
The Provisions from the ANA code of Ethics that apply to this dilemma are these:
One Provision that applies is Provision # 1, state the provision: The nurse practices with compassion
and respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and unique attributes of every person.
Another Provision that applies is Provision # 3, state the provision: The nurse promotes, advocates for,
and protects the rights, health, and safety of the patient.
The above stated provisions apply in this way: (Discuss each provision and how it applies to the
ethical dilemma, use at least one professional journal article for support).

Pluto Planet
Due to some of Pluto s various characteristics, this icy dwarf planet, and other dwarf planets are not
considered regular planets, such as Earth. These reasons also make other dwarf planets, like Eris,
Haumea, Ceres, and Makemake, outliers, when compared to the general eight planets. Astronomers
predict that there are possibly hundreds of dwarf planets that surpass the Kuiper Belt, just waiting to
be discovered. There are three rules, making a planet, a planet. These include, the planet is round, it
orbits around the sun, and it has cleared the neighborhood of its orbit. Pluto only follows the first two
rules therefore, Pluto is no longer called a planet, just a dwarf planet.

can not be considered a planet, so it must be put in a different category, dwarf planet. Out of context
dwarf means small, which suits these planets, considering they are smaller than the moon. All of the
known dwarf planets have played quite a significant role in history. By virtues of Pluto s distinct

I remember when visuals were used to represent psychiatric treatment consisted of a man wearing
black horn rimmed glasses, sitting in a high back arm chair, with a pen and tablet in his hands to take
notes on the session with the June Cleaver looking woman laying on :the couch, a small wind up clock
sitting on a table in front of them, the hour ticking away. Today, treatment for mental disorders come
in the shape of a magic bullet, for many this is the first and only psychiatric treatment used. The days
of couch therapy are long gone. What is seen today is the indiscriminate use of psychoactive drugs,
driven largely by the machinations of the pharmaceutical industry:
Psychiatry once subscribed to the Freudian view that mental illness came from roots in unconscious
conflicts (usually appearing in adolescence) that affected the mind as though it were separate from the
brain. With the introduction of psychoactive drugs in the 1950s, and sharply accelerating in the 1980s,
it was then that the psychiatric focus shifted to the brain. Psychiatrists began to refer to themselves as
psycho pharmacologists, and became far less interested in exploring the life stories of their patients
and more interested in treating their patients with drugs. The psychiatric profession became optimistic
that the use of psychoactive drugs would be beneficial with the new biological model that psychiatry
adopted. Their optimism began to fade as serious side effects of the drugs

Analysis Of Dylan Thomas
For those who face the imminence of death, there exist two choices: to embrace death s approach or to
refuse it altogether. At the end of one s life, beleaguered by the ailments, apathy, and fatigue of old
age, a temptation often arises to submit to the encroaching darkness; however, not everyone willingly
accepts this grim inevitability, especially as they realize the true insignificance of their legacies. Thus,
some choose to boldly defy death s advance in order to vigorously live out their end of days. As his
father lies on the verge of death, Dylan Thomas s rigid structure and fervid language of his unnamed
poem implore the reader, as well as Thomas s father, to passionately live out their final hours and to
tirelessly combat death s last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Notably, in the first tercet, Thomas crafts an extended metaphor, which illustrates the juxtaposition of
light and darkness to represent life and death. Specifically, Thomas urges his father to resist the
coming of the night and the dying of the light (Thomas 1,3). Here, Thomas likens nightfall s approach
to his father s proximity to the enshrouding darkness and mystery of death, yet later, he concedes that
wise men at their end know dark is right (4). Thus, Thomas acknowledges that his father s death is
unavoidable but concludes, nonetheless, that by fighting, his father can prolong and seize the evening
stage of his life. In contrast to the dark imagery, light is more than a mere representation of life.
Instead, Thomas fixates on brightness as the teeming energy, immense passion, and raw emotion that
characterize a well lived life. As he presents the four different types of men through parallelism, he
describes their words as failing to spark lightning, their deeds as not bright enough, but that in fact,
they all could blaze (5,7 8,14). He also calls for the men to burn...at close of day (2). Apparently,
Thomas views life as a brilliant inferno that one should strive for, even at the end of days, or contend
with a disappointing legacy. As well as symbolizing passion, critic Charles Knauber notes that
movement in the direction of light

Saudi Arabia Essays
In the heart of the Middle East is a country known by many Westerners for its oil production and,
often, extremist beliefs of groups within the country. The country is Saudi Arabia, and though it is
thought of by many as a rather backward country, Saudi Arabia has a rich history and culture, and it is
a country that revolves around Islam and the worship of Allah as the one true God.
For about fifteen hundred years, Saudi Arabia s history has centered on one major theme: Islam.
Muhammad, the founder of Islam, was born around 570 A.D. in the city of Mecca. Early in the 7th
century A.D., according to Islamic belief, Muhammad, while meditating in a cave on Mount Hira, was
visited by the angel Gabriel. Gabriel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, in the mid 1700s, Saudi ruler Muhammad ibn Saud, from the Saud dynasty, forged an alliance
with a religious reformer named Muhammad ibn Abd al Wahhab. Ibn Abd al Wahhab was discontent
with the growing disregard for Islamic teachings in Arabia. He taught that the people should return to
strict observance and practice of Islamic laws. Adherents to this belief, called Wahhabis, were backed
by the armies of the Saud dynasty, and together, these forces began a movement. Areas that converted
to Wahhabi beliefs were taken over by the Saud family, thus increasing the size of the Saudi State.
However, by 1891, most Saudi control of Arabia was taken by tribal chiefs and by the Ottoman
Empire. Then, in 1902, a young Saudi leader named Abd al Aziz ibn Saud began to reclaim land that
his ancestors had lost. He also sought diligently to revive the Wahhabi movement, which heavily
emphasized the Islamic beliefs and strict adherence to them. In 1932, Ibn Saud unified the regions he
conquered into one state an Islamic state that he dubbed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Throughout the next fifty years, under the reign of Ibn Saud and his descendents, Saudi Arabia grew
wealthier as a nation, while striving to keep its Islamic values at the same time. In 1982, King Fahd
came to the throne. He sought to maintain Saudi Arabia traditional Islamic values, while he also
strived to create more globally

Stereotypes In Cathedral By Raymond Carver
In the story, Cathedral, written by Raymond Carver he is illustrating stereotypes by displaying the
narrator s reaction to meeting Robert. Throughout the story the narrator illustrates how or what blind
people do and how they live their lives. The narrator says, I d always though dark glasses are a must
for the blind (Carver,144). Before Robert arrived to his home he already made many different
assumptions about him. The narrator did not understand how a blind person lived. I don t have and
blind friends, the narrator said (Carver, 142). When the idea of Robert coming and staying in his home
made him feel uncomfortable. The narrator displays the inaccuracy in stereotyping with his encounter
with Robert. The narrator and his wife had a conversation about Robert s arrival. The narrator s wife
said, If you love me, you can do this for me. If you don t love me okau. But, if you had a friend, any
friend, and the friend came to visit, I d make him feel comfortable (Carver, 142). When the idea of a
person different than the narrator he became uncomfortable. He decided he knew Robert before he met

The Japanese soldiers were quick to behead them. Treatment of the prisoners was harsh and they were

Third Man Corruption
The Film Noir, The Third Man , showed the evident effect that World War 2 had on people. Since this
film was produced in 1949, after World War 2, it reflected the social fears and cultural changes that
have plagued people during post war. Before the war, there was the ideology of the strong American
family. This family portrayed strong values such as happiness, hardworking, and optimism. However
during post war, there was a shade of darkness as fear, greed and evil lurking. The Third Man
portrayed the social, economic and moral corruption which reflects off the social evils during the post

Holly, to go around the town trying to solve his murder case while leaving his mistress, Anna to be

black market, they were putting their families under emotional distress as well as possibly tearing
families apart. Despite Lime s lack of family members shown in the film, Anna and Holly were the

Teacher Professionalism Essay
Teacher Professionalism and the Vocational Culture of Teaching
Teaching has never been recognised as a profession mainly because of its inability to promote and
demonstrate a distinctive expertise (Beck, 2008). The status of teaching has always been seen as an
uncertain position, according to Etzioni, he characterised it as one of the semi professions (Etzioni,
1969). Teaching definitely struggled to get the same degree of professional independency as
professions like medicine and law (Braun, 2012). The concept and multiple meanings of teacher
professionalism has changed in relation to historical, political and social contexts. It has developed
over time between rival groups and their interest (Hilferty, 2008). The term professionalism is very
difficult to define and as it is used in different senses. The term is mainly used to define the status of
occupation groups in terms of morality (Kennedy, 2007). So in the business world the term
professionalism is defined as success .
Teaching in England has long been fragmented profession. It is cross cut by actual and perceived
internal differences of status which are in part the legacy of a class stratified education system, and it
has also been chronically divided on the basis of gender. The multiplicity of professional organisations
and unions to which different sections of teaching force have belonged has both reflected and
reinforced such divisions .

support themselves, thereby decreasing the frequency of child brides. Also, if girls are encouraged to
learn, they will be exposed to information about contraceptives effectively delaying pregnancy until
reaching maturity and financial stability. Among married Egyptians, those lacking education married
at 18 on average, and bore their firstborn by 20; those with a secondary or higher education wedded at
an older average age of 23, and had their first child at 25 (Roudi Fahimi Moghadam, 2003). Not only
will a smaller, wealthier population ease burdened economies, but health costs also drop with the rise
in female instruction. Children born to literate mothers are 50% more likely to survive past five than
children with illiterate mothers (2011). Besides reducing child mortality, cases of HIV decline if
women attend school. A study in Uganda revealed that every year of education reduces girls chances
of HIV by 6.7%; knowledge about how the disease is transmitted forewarns females about potential
dangers before becoming infected (2011). Just imagine the thousands of graves, tombstones carved
with loving daughter , and caring mother , that won t exist because women were presented information
to avoid contracting HIV. Even disregarding all the spared innocents, there are massive economic
benefits of teaching females such as the increase in women s earning potential and job opportunities.
Only a year of primary school elevates women s wages by 10 20%, secondary education results in a
15 25% gain (2011). In turn, with more mothers, sisters, and daughters working above slave pay

Harvest Table Observation
This last Monday I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Harvest Table in Brookings SD. It was a
wonderful and eye opening experience. Anna and I had planned to do a fun leaf activity where
children could color over leaves on paper or use paint to stamp the leaves on paper. As a teacher, I had
many thoughts run through my mind. As the children started to arrive over to our table, they were
interested to see what we had. They loved the feeling of the foam paint, but quickly lost interest. The
children seemed to be more comfortable at the tables with the activities and art from the previous
times. Many of these children need consistency in their life and these Monday nights are probably that
one event and time that they get that consistency.

Migrant Farm Workers Research Paper
Melissa, I enjoyed reading your primary task posting concerning work related issues that migrant farm
workers face in the United States. In fact, I completely agree with your statement that even though the
United States agricultural industry heavily depends on the labor migrant farm workers provide, the
men, women, and children performing the work are for the most part seriously underappreciated.
Additionally, you made an extremely interesting point about migrant farm workers who are in the
country legally, even though they are eligible for government assistance (WIC, Medicaid, and food
stamps), who do not receive these benefits because they are frequently traveling from state to state to
find work. I had not considered this element of

Franco Spainco Research Paper
After World War Two, Francisco Franco took control of Spain and greatly impacted the people with an
extreme fascist government. Fascism is defined as an authoritarian nationalistic system of government
and social organization (Passmore), which was how Franco ran his government, taking complete
control and doing many extreme things that took away the country s culture and diversity, leaving it
very isolated. Franco s fascist government profoundly impacted the people because of the
establishment of a totalitarian regime and the severe political repression that it caused in the country.
The fascist government under Francisco Franco led Spain to become an isolated and hated country.

In Article one of Franco s decree, it states that Spain, as a political unity, is a Catholic and social state,
which in accordance with its tradition is constituted as a Kingdom. The Head of the State is the
chieftain of the crusade and the Generalissimo of Armies, Don Francisco Franco y Bahamonde
(Francisco Franco). The very first article of this decree states that Francisco Franco holds all power
and everything should be done his way. It even states that Spain is constituted as a Kingdom , meaning
it is directly and completely ruled by a king, or Franco himself. He runs the military, the government,
and watches everything the people do. It is also suggesting that Spain is catholic, but it does not speak
of any other religion, which is an example of an extreme limitation he put on the people, impacting the
culture of the country. Franco isolated the people by putting many restrictions on them, such as
banning foreign languages and creating a secret police network to spy on the people (History 2).
Francisco Franco took a totalitarian government system to another level and took away the cultural
diversity of the country. Not only did he forbid cultural diversity with the law, but he also took an
extra step to make sure that the citizens were obeying him by using secret spies. If his rules were not
followed, then there were severe consequences, that vary from just getting tried in court all the way to
execution. All in all, Franco ran an extreme totalitarian government because of his political, social,
and cultural restrictions of the

communicative purpose and not similar forms or content. Swales (1990) discuss communicative
purpose as a starting point for defining genre. In the case of newspaper culture columns,
communicative purpose of each culture columns should be analyzed and then it will be determined if
they share a set of communicative purposes and further a class of communicative events or not. The
third criterion for a genre has to apply on the present features in all instances of a particular genre. For

Deterioration Of Brotherhood And The American Dream
Suzanne Hornak Professor Kizershot English 102 20 October 2015 Midterm Paper Deterioration of
Brotherhood and The American Dream Henry and Lyman are two brothers that had it all; freedom, a

and the effects of this ruins his brother s enthusiasm along with his own. In The Red Convertible by
Louise Erdrich at first you envy the relationship the two Native American brothers have until it slowly
crumbles and becomes bitter and they end up losing sight of the visions they once held. Throughout
the story the red olds that they own together is what embodies these brother s bond from the very
beginning of good times all the way until the very end. The story first starts out by mentioning the two
brothers and the car itself. The car clearly symbolizes the relationship of the brothers. Erdrich s
opening paragraph starts with: I was the first one to drive a convertible on my reservation. And of
course it was red, a red Olds. I owned that car along with my brother Henry Junior. We owned it until
his boots filled with water on a windy night and he bought out my share. Now Henry owns the whole
car, and his younger brother Lyman (that s myself), Lyman walks everywhere he goes. (1) The author

Secondary School Of Computing And The Arts
Introduction
Lostcause secondary school of computing and the Arts has asked us to design a new computer class
room to support both subjects of computing and arts, and since both arts and computing are both
excellent standard, we would need to match its excellent status. This would have a room where half of
the room which would be specialised in both specified, where if it was for arts, there would be added
software like Photoshop, and other editing software. I would say having one half of the room for arts
and the other half computing make sense because students will know where to find themselves for
specified subjects. Or they can be mixed but as long as there is specific software being added.

User requirements
In this section, we shall be talking about what is required to have an appropriate ICT solution for
computing and arts class. This will cover what is needed, what hardware and software are needed.
What needed/ specific computers/specific devices
There will be a lot needed into making the class to have computers which will support both subjects.
This is because computing and art are different subjects and having to bring both subjects together
could demand a lot. Computers will be the key feature to making this class. When it comes to setting
up the computers, we have a budget of £5500 on each computer.
There is more into art than just having a pen and drawing or painting pictures on a paper. The
technology has advanced and discovered new kind of art within computers. Most of the modern day
computers can support computing and basic art. In order to have a fully functioning computer that can
cover both subjects is having to get suitable software and having the right aspects in a computer. You
don t want to be buying a computer and having to install a software which will reduce the
performance of the computer. It s important to know the aspects of a computer before buying.
The most suitable computers we would recommend are apple based computers, HP, Dell and
Samsung. These are big brands and most reliable. There are more computer companies that are
suitable for both computing and arts but for now we choose to call out the big

Societal Views of Women in the Victorian Era in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House
A Doll s House, by Henrik Ibsen, creates a peephole into the lives of a family in the Victorian Era. The
play portrays a female viewpoint in a male dominated society. The values of the society are described
using the actions of a woman, Nora, who rebels against the injustices inflicted upon her gender.
Women s equality with men was not recognized by society in the late 1800 s. Rather, a woman was
considered a doll, a child, and a servant. Nora s alienation reveals society s assumptions and values
about gender.

She alludes to a child s character when she says, everything I think of seems so silly and insignificant
(26). Torvald replies with a condescending statement: Does my little Nora acknowledge that at last?
(26). Torvald expects only childish talk from her. He even tells her she is little, like a child, and
although he expects nothing more than child s talk from her, he does expect to be obeyed.
Nora plays the part of a slave in her subservience to her husband, for she is supposed to abide by his
rules and be dependent on him. She is not supposed to think for herself and repeatedly told so by those
around her. When speaking about Nora in her presence, Torvald says, She is so terribly self willed
(55). Nora has a conversation with Mrs. Linde, who also tells her, Don t be self willed (57). Torvald
tells her, I will advise you and direct you (64). Nora is expected to be a dependent slave who follows
her husband s advice and directions. Women were also legally dependent upon men. The society s
laws of that time even required the male to cosign everything that a woman had to sign. Nora s naivete
in forging her father s signature and trying to pay off the loan further emphasizes Victorian society s
assumptions about women s inability to deal with a man s world.
These assumptions about women caused their gender value to be vastly

Essay On Wrongful Convictions
A wrongful conviction occurs when a person is accused of a crime and later on is found to be
innocent. Wrongful convictions lead to innocent people serving sentences for an events they were not
guilty of. Wrongful convictions happen because of false confessions, incentivized informants,
inadequate defense, misapplication of forensic science, an unfair trial, and media influence. Although
wrongful convictions primarily bring negative consequences towards the convicted, there also are
negative effects towards the prosecutor and the victims of the crime. This pressurizes for both sides to

Eyewitness misidentification are the leading errors to a wrongful conviction. Although there is such a
high risk for errors, it is still the most powerful testimony or piece of evidence during a trial. With the
value an eyewitness is given, there are many risks a prosecutor takes when using them as their most
important piece of evidence. Throughout the process, starting from the crime and going until the
conviction, eyewitnesses are placed under stress and anxiety. There is also the flaw that the human
brain tends to overlook specific details. According to the California Innocence Project, details like a
stranger s height, weight, age, and hair are often overlooked . ( Eyewitness Identification Problems

inference and what they feel like the suspect is supposed to look like. Through this process the brain is
trying to come up with a clear picture of the event, and does so by imaging details. Even if a witness

The Negative Effects Of Gress Stress And Its Effects On...
Through the fast pace of today s economy and job market in the United States, students are constantly
being asked to do more in order to maintain a competitive edge. Although, obtaining such an edge
might promote a positive outcome, there are also negative responses that essentially hurt students as
individuals and the American job market as a whole. The constant government and societal push
towards measuring up to the rest of the world is essentially, harming students more than it is
promoting them.
Although stress stress isn t always a negative aspect, in extreme situations, it can prove to be very
unhealthy. The American Psychological Association has found that Teens report that their stress level
during the school year far exceeds what they believe to be healthy... The association also says that
Many teens also report feeling overwhelmed (31 percent) and depressed or sad (30 percent) as a result
of stress. The stress that students are experiencing is not the problem as much as the consequences that
come from it. Depression and lack of motivation can result from too much pressure upon students, and
these negative side effects can cancel any of the positively intended effects. From elementary school
to college, the American school system is constantly striving to keep up with that of other countries.
This constant motivation can be very toxic to the entire cause at hand. The University of La Verne
took statistics of their students and found that ...at least 50% of

What Was The Erie Canal
How the Erie Canal Opened the Door to the Western Frontier After the American Revolution, people s
thoughts turned to the American West. But while the thought of going west was in a lot of people s
minds, so were thoughts of the restrictions making the move almost impossible. The trip to the west
was filled with mountains, forests, rivers and even a few waterfalls. How was this transportation of
people and goods to take place?
Before the Transcontinental Railway, interstate highways and airplanes changed the shape of our
country, there was the New York State Erie Canal system. Although the idea of a canal was perceived
in the late 1700 s, it wasn t until the 1790 s that locks and canals on the Mohawk River allowed for
boat travel from Schenectady to Oswego and to Seneca Lake in the Finger lakes region of New York.

The Pros And Cons Of Xenotransplantation
Animal experimentation is widely conducted for drug testing, medical training, education, as well as
Research and Development (R D). Over 100 million animals are killed in the laboratories annually,
and they are physically and psychologically traumatised by experimentation (PETA, 2017; Live
Science, 2017). However, the reality is that majority of animal experiments are unreliable. Most of
their sacrifices do not contribute to improving human health as the medical treatments developed in
animals rarely translate to human benefits due to the differing complexities between experimental
animals and humans (PETA, 2017; Live Science, 2017). Hence, we argue that the role of animal
experimentation in medical research is questionable.

Xenotransplantation is the procedure involving the transplantation of living cells, tissues or organs
from one species to another, particularly from animal to human (NHMRC, 2017). The most widely
studied animal species for xenotransplantation are pigs. Animals are genetically engineered to produce
human cells or substrates, which are used to incubate human organs (Vermeulen et al., 2017).
However, the ethical implications of such applications are debatable.
Since most of the animals involved in transplantation are genetically engineered (transgenic animals),
xenotransplantation is viewed by many as an unnatural and inappropriate interference in nature
(Manesh et al. 2014). Besides the deontological arguments, the consequences and complications of
transplantation process lead to ethical issues. Before and after the transplantation procedure, the organ
receiver must consume large doses of immunosuppressive drugs, which greatly affects their immune
system. The lack of scientific evidence on the desired functions of transplanted organs on individual
patients undermines the procedure s

Why Is Atrial Fibrillation ( A Fib ) Is The Most Common...
When one begins to discuss issues that arise with an intrinsic organ, things get serious. Unfortunately,
vital organs like the heart and liver that are causing problems can t be removed like the appendix or
the kidney and cure people of issues such as Appendicitis or constant dealings with gallstones. This is
true when things begin to go awry within the heart and conditions begin to arise. Atrial Fibrillation (A
fib) is the most common type of arrhythmia, or issue with the heart rate or rhythm. Though A fib is not
a condition that is life threatening, depending on the severity and lack of treatment, this condition
leads to more serious issues like heart disease, and even heart attacks and strokes, which are usually
what end up being the cause of death in individuals diagnosed with the condition. Because of A fib
leading to other more detrimental problems, such as the ones listed above, it is difficult to identify and
pinpoint if someone has it or had it, which is why it is known as one of the contributors to the silent
killer, also known as the heart attack. In this paper, gaining a deeper understanding of Atrial
Fibrillation will be accomplished through the exploration of: causes, diagnosis, symptoms and
treatment, the variation of types, what all is affected within the body as a result, what happens
physically, and what occurs at the cellular level when diagnosed with this disorder. All in all, Atrial
Fibrillation should be taken seriously and further research is

American Pie
With every aspect of our lives we are making a point, arguing a belief, or refuting some other aspect of
our existence. Aesthetic pieces, most avidly poems and songs, argue a message both in the lyrics and
in the meaning posed between the lines. American Pie, in a multitude of ways, argues that American
lives and memories are closely intertwined with the music of the time period. Not only does American
Pie argue a message it also pulls many generations together. Today, thirty years after the initial release,
American Pie still has an effect in our music and continues to be popular with all age groups. Don

Essentially, the late 1960s and early 1970s are an in between stage for America, where people were
exploring the many options in their lives. The release of American Pie in 1971 was a landmark in pop
music history because the song was eight minutes and thirty two seconds long. Later, it was divided
up into two parts and then turned into the version that is known today (www.don mclean.com). Now
that the time period that surrounded the release of American Pie is established it is easier to understand
the song because it can be read more in context.
The music of American Pie harkens back to a time of rock n roll, pianos, and acoustic guitars. A time
when the music was upbeat and peppy, causing you to want to jump up and dance. However, the
music during the time of its creation lacks the calming effect that is acquainted with the music of
previous eras. American Pie embodies many qualities of the music during the 1950s, including the
simplicity of the chord structures overall, the clear vocals, and well known and used instruments. With
the use of simple but repetitive chords, Don McLean is able to shift the attention from the musical
facet of the song back to the lyrics and the individual person listening to it.
At the opening of American Pie, Don McLean starts the song at a slow pace but then progressively
speeds up the pace through the first chorus. After the first chorus the music

The Impact Of Viking Raids On The British Isles
Coming from Scandinavian countries, predominantly Denmark and Norway, the Vikings began
raiding the British Isles in the late 700s (James). The Vikings primarily targeted monasteries, because
that is where most of the wealth was concentrated (Loughrey). These raids were very violent, people
were killed, and the survivors were sold into slavery (Loughrey). These violent raids earned the
Vikings the reputation of barbarians, much like the Mongols a few centuries later in Asia. After some
time, once the Vikings exhausted most of the wealth in the monasteries, they turned their interest into
settling the British Isles (James). By the late 9th century the Vikings had conquered most of England
(James). However, even though these Viking kingdoms did not last very long, the Scandinavians who
resided there stayed. These Scandinavians would go on to change the British Isles in many ways.
Despite the violent and negative impacts of Viking raids on the British Isles, once the Vikings settled
down, they had a significant and positive peaceful impact on the British Isles culturally, politically,
and economically. The first of these positive impacts was on the culture of the British Isles. One of the
ways that the Vikings influenced the culture is evidenced by how they changed the English language.
Since Old Norse and Old English are very similar, it can be very hard to detect where Old Norse
coincides with modern English (Treharne 3). However, a very obvious influence is seen in the

  • 2. Nixon Impeachment Impeachment With rumors of impeachment beginning to circulate, Nixon finally agreed to turn over the subpoenaed White House tapes. The committee listened to the recordings and discovered an 18 minute gap on one of the tapes. It was surmised that someone had erased part of the tape, but investigators were unable to determine exactly what had happened. In March 1974, seven former presidential aides were indicted on charges of conspiracy to hinder the Watergate investigation, and Nixon was named as an unindicted co conspirator. The following day, Vice President Gerald Ford was sworn in as the 38th president of the United States. Ford, a former House Minority leader, had been chosen by Nixon to succeed Vice President Spiro Agnew, who was forced to resign due to earlier charges of bribery and income tax evasion. Ford was the first man to become chief executive of the nation as a result of the resignation of a president, and without having been elected president or vice president. As a result, Congress enacted sweeping campaign finance reforms in 1974, limiting the amount of contributions to political campaigns and establishing guidelines for the detailed accounting and reporting of donations and ... Megacities tend to be thriving centers for cultural and economic progress with a high rate of economic development. Of the 24 cities worldwide that are currently classed as megacities, many of them are the capital city of a country, such as Paris, London, Tokyo, Beijing, and Seoul, (Citypopulation.de, 2014). In recent years, with the rapid development of the economy, many large cities around the world have been reclassified as megacities, particularly in developing countries. As megacities develop, a lot of challenges and problems develop too, for example: high population, urban transport problems and environmental problems. This essay will describe the main challenges and possible solution. The first challenge is due to high population. A quick rise in population will cause housing and food shortages and a rise in the price of general living. According to Yujun, Z. (2011), in developing countries, the fastest population growth rate will be 7 8% annually; a burden in most developing countries is that there is no population control, for example, in Beijing, China. By the end of 2013, according to census data in China, the population of Beijing will be over 20 million. Huge population problems for the city s infrastructure have brought tremendous pressure, housing and food shortages. Grain yield is lower than the population growth rate so many people ... These reasons also make other dwarf planets, like Eris, Haumea, Ceres, and Makemake, outliers, when compared to the general eight planets. Astronomers predict that there are possibly hundreds of dwarf planets that surpass the Kuiper Belt, just waiting to be discovered. There are three rules, making a planet, a planet. The days of couch therapy are long gone. What is seen today is the indiscriminate use of psychoactive drugs, driven largely by the machinations of the pharmaceutical industry: Psychiatry once subscribed to the Freudian view that mental illness came from roots in unconscious conflicts (usually appearing in adolescence) that affected the mind as though it were separate from the brain. With the introduction of psychoactive drugs in the 1950s, and sharply accelerating in the 1980s, it was then that the psychiatric focus shifted to the brain. Psychiatrists began to refer to themselves as psycho pharmacologists, and became far less interested in exploring the life stories of their patients and more interested in treating their patients with drugs. The psychiatric profession became optimistic that the use of psychoactive drugs would be beneficial with the new biological model that psychiatry adopted. • 8. Analysis Of Dylan Thomas For those who face the imminence of death, there exist two choices: to embrace death s approach or to refuse it altogether. At the end of one s life, beleaguered by the ailments, apathy, and fatigue of old age, a temptation often arises to submit to the encroaching darkness; however, not everyone willingly accepts this grim inevitability, especially as they realize the true insignificance of their legacies. Thus, some choose to boldly defy death s advance in order to vigorously live out their end of days. As his father lies on the verge of death, Dylan Thomas s rigid structure and fervid language of his unnamed poem implore the reader, as well as Thomas s father, to passionately live out their final hours and to tirelessly combat death s last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Notably, in the first tercet, Thomas crafts an extended metaphor, which illustrates the juxtaposition of light and darkness to represent life and death. Specifically, Thomas urges his father to resist the coming of the night and the dying of the light (Thomas 1,3). Here, Thomas likens nightfall s approach to his father s proximity to the enshrouding darkness and mystery of death, yet later, he concedes that wise men at their end know dark is right (4). Thus, Thomas acknowledges that his father s death is unavoidable but concludes, nonetheless, that by fighting, his father can prolong and seize the evening stage of his life. In contrast to the dark imagery, light is more than a mere representation of life. Instead, Thomas fixates on brightness as the teeming energy, immense passion, and raw emotion that characterize a well lived life. As he presents the four different types of men through parallelism, he describes their words as failing to spark lightning, their deeds as not bright enough, but that in fact, they all could blaze (5,7 8,14). He also calls for the men to burn...at close of day (2). Apparently, Thomas views life as a brilliant inferno that one should strive for, even at the end of days, or contend with a disappointing legacy. As well as symbolizing passion, critic Charles Knauber notes that movement in the direction of light ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Teacher Professionalism Essay Teacher Professionalism and the Vocational Culture of Teaching Teaching has never been recognised as a profession mainly because of its inability to promote and demonstrate a distinctive expertise (Beck, 2008). The status of teaching has always been seen as an uncertain position, according to Etzioni, he characterised it as one of the semi professions (Etzioni, 1969). Teaching definitely struggled to get the same degree of professional independency as professions like medicine and law (Braun, 2012). The concept and multiple meanings of teacher professionalism has changed in relation to historical, political and social contexts. It has developed over time between rival groups and their interest (Hilferty, 2008). The term professionalism is very difficult to define and as it is used in different senses. The term is mainly used to define the status of occupation groups in terms of morality (Kennedy, 2007). So in the business world the term professionalism is defined as success . Teaching in England has long been fragmented profession. It is cross cut by actual and perceived internal differences of status which are in part the legacy of a class stratified education system, and it has also been chronically divided on the basis of gender. The multiplicity of professional organisations and unions to which different sections of teaching force have belonged has both reflected and reinforced such divisions . We owned it until his boots filled with water on a windy night and he bought out my share. Now Henry owns the whole car, and his younger brother Lyman (that s myself), Lyman walks everywhere he goes. Societal Views of Women in the Victorian Era in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House A Doll s House, by Henrik Ibsen, creates a peephole into the lives of a family in the Victorian Era. The play portrays a female viewpoint in a male dominated society. The values of the society are described using the actions of a woman, Nora, who rebels against the injustices inflicted upon her gender. Women s equality with men was not recognized by society in the late 1800 s. Rather, a woman was considered a doll, a child, and a servant. Nora s alienation reveals society s assumptions and values about gender. A woman was considered by society to be a doll because she was expected to be subordinate to her husband s whims. Torvald replies with a condescending statement: Does my little Nora acknowledge that at last? (26). Torvald expects only childish talk from her. He even tells her she is little, like a child, and although he expects nothing more than child s talk from her, he does expect to be obeyed. Nora plays the part of a slave in her subservience to her husband, for she is supposed to abide by his rules and be dependent on him. She is not supposed to think for herself and repeatedly told so by those around her. When speaking about Nora in her presence, Torvald says, She is so terribly self willed (55). Nora has a conversation with Mrs. Linde, who also tells her, Don t be self willed (57). Torvald tells her, I will advise you and direct you (64). Nora is expected to be a dependent slave who follows her husband s advice and directions. Women were also legally dependent upon men. The society s laws of that time even required the male to cosign everything that a woman had to sign. Nora s naivete in forging her father s signature and trying to pay off the loan further emphasizes Victorian society s assumptions about women s inability to deal with a man s world. Through the fast pace of today s economy and job market in the United States, students are constantly being asked to do more in order to maintain a competitive edge. Although, obtaining such an edge might promote a positive outcome, there are also negative responses that essentially hurt students as individuals and the American job market as a whole. The constant government and societal push towards measuring up to the rest of the world is essentially, harming students more than it is promoting them. Over 100 million animals are killed in the laboratories annually, and they are physically and psychologically traumatised by experimentation (PETA, 2017; Live Science, 2017). However, the reality is that majority of animal experiments are unreliable. Most of their sacrifices do not contribute to improving human health as the medical treatments developed in animals rarely translate to human benefits due to the differing complexities between experimental animals and humans (PETA, 2017; Live Science, 2017). Xenotransplantation is the procedure involving the transplantation of living cells, tissues or organs from one species to another, particularly from animal to human (NHMRC, 2017). The most widely studied animal species for xenotransplantation are pigs. Animals are genetically engineered to produce human cells or substrates, which are used to incubate human organs (Vermeulen et al., 2017). However, the ethical implications of such applications are debatable. Since most of the animals involved in transplantation are genetically engineered (transgenic animals), xenotransplantation is viewed by many as an unnatural and inappropriate interference in nature (Manesh et al. 2014). Besides the deontological arguments, the consequences and complications of transplantation process lead to ethical issues. Unfortunately, vital organs like the heart and liver that are causing problems can t be removed like the appendix or the kidney and cure people of issues such as Appendicitis or constant dealings with gallstones. This is true when things begin to go awry within the heart and conditions begin to arise. Atrial Fibrillation (A fib) is the most common type of arrhythmia, or issue with the heart rate or rhythm. Though A fib is not a condition that is life threatening, depending on the severity and lack of treatment, this condition leads to more serious issues like heart disease, and even heart attacks and strokes, which are usually what end up being the cause of death in individuals diagnosed with the condition. Because of A fib leading to other more detrimental problems, such as the ones listed above, it is difficult to identify and pinpoint if someone has it or had it, which is why it is known as one of the contributors to the silent killer, also known as the heart attack. American Pie embodies many qualities of the music during the 1950s, including the simplicity of the chord structures overall, the clear vocals, and well known and used instruments. With the use of simple but repetitive chords, Don McLean is able to shift the attention from the musical facet of the song back to the lyrics and the individual person listening to it. • 39. The Impact Of Viking Raids On The British Isles Coming from Scandinavian countries, predominantly Denmark and Norway, the Vikings began raiding the British Isles in the late 700s (James). The Vikings primarily targeted monasteries, because that is where most of the wealth was concentrated (Loughrey). These raids were very violent, people were killed, and the survivors were sold into slavery (Loughrey). These violent raids earned the Vikings the reputation of barbarians, much like the Mongols a few centuries later in Asia. After some time, once the Vikings exhausted most of the wealth in the monasteries, they turned their interest into settling the British Isles (James). By the late 9th century the Vikings had conquered most of England (James). However, even though these Viking kingdoms did not last very long, the Scandinavians who resided there stayed. These Scandinavians would go on to change the British Isles in many ways. Despite the violent and negative impacts of Viking raids on the British Isles, once the Vikings settled down, they had a significant and positive peaceful impact on the British Isles culturally, politically, and economically. The first of these positive impacts was on the culture of the British Isles. One of the ways that the Vikings influenced the culture is evidenced by how they changed the English language.
