Cause And Effect On Gun Crime
Next, the comparison of countries and cities that have reduced legal gun ownership with those that had
an increase in legal gun ownership will show how crime was affected. In 1998, the United Kingdom
put the Firearms Act in place as an answer to a shooting spree at a primary school in Dunblane,
Scotland. The act banned all private citizens from owning handguns. According to Joyce Lee
Malcolm, a law professor at George Mason University, violent crime increased after the law was
instated (Domenech 28). Whereas, in the United States, an increase in legal gun ownership has seen a
decrease in overall crime rate. Based off of a report from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2013,
200 million guns were legally owned in the nation in 1994 compared to the 300 million legally owned
guns in 2013 yet there were 1.3 million violent crimes involving firearms in 1994 compared to the
estimate of 350,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2011 (Domench 28). In short, the data shows
that gun prohibiting policies do not always lead to a decrease in violent crime. On the contrary they
can correlate to an increase in crime.
Although, some in the anti gun group will reason that because America has one of the highest gun
crime rates in the world while Europe s gun crime is relatively low, American society should not allow
citizens to own guns. This may be true of course; however stricter gun ownership laws and crime
increase is not conclusive. As Mauser states in Would Banning Firearms

The Language Is Forever Forgotten
Imagine a little native boy who grows up in a culture and with a language that is only common to his
tribe. For him this sole language is sufficient because the tribe is his family and as long as he can
communicate with them nothing else matters. Suddenly his tribe starts to speak more English and is
becoming westernized. Others, including his own family, start ignoring their culture and raising their
children differently. Flash forward years on he is the only one that can speak his language and he feels
alone. He just wishes that his tribe had taught their children, their native language, just so he would
have someone to talk to. Instead the language will die with him and in this sense, so does the culture.
No one will ever be able to translate anything from his tribe and his descendants will know nothing.
The language is forever forgotten. While this scenario may seem farfetched for many 21st century
Americans, this is the reality for many individuals who speak an uncommon language around the
world. It s becoming an issue in the linguistics community, who want to preserve these dying
languages. Language is the way we all communicate and it s a sneak peek into the past and different
cultures. Many linguistic scholars believe we need to preserve languages now for the future
generations. The sad thing is if there are not a change soon, almost 6,000 languages will most likely
go extinct (Hitt). Moreover, it s not just an international ordeal language extinction is

Introduction. Section 8 Housing Was The First Subsidized
Introduction
Section 8 housing was the first subsidized tenant based housing program in the U.S. The program was
established under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. It differed from the known
public housing program by allowing recipients to obtain housing from the private market as opposed
to government owned housing. Later after merging two aspects of the section 8, certificates and
vouchers, section 8 housing program became known as the Housing Choice Voucher program (HCV).
Housing Choice Voucher Program is the largest form of federal housing assistance in the U.S. and it is
administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The HCV program
requires recipients to obtain housing from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This social program demonstration took place in twelve locations starting in the year of 1971 and
ending by 1980. Nearly fifty thousand families were assisted with cash allowances (US House, 2003).
The Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 authorized the Section 8 program with 2
components, Section 8 project based assistance for existing, newly constructed or rehabilitated
housing and the Section 8 existing housing program, a newly created housing assistance program to be
administered by PHAs provided tenant based subsidies. Rental voucher program was first authorized
as a demonstration program by Congress in 1984. The program, then, was formally authorized as a
program in the Housing and Community Development Act of 1987. Conversion to the HCV program
from the rental voucher and rental certificate programs started on October 1st in 1999. All certificate
tenancies and rental vouchers became subject to the HCV program requirements (Hartung and Henig,
1997).

Section 8 Programs
The U.S. government provides housing assistance to low income families and individuals through
different programs, two of them are: Section 8 tenant based subsidies (also called Section 8 Housing
Choice Voucher program); and Section 8 project based assistance, under which property owners
receive government subsidies to decrease rents (Carlson). The

Morality In Plato s Euthyphro
Morality in Euthyphro
To reach an understanding whether acts are immoral or moral we must ask ourselves what we consider
to be immoral or moral. According to Protagoras first claim on moral relativism, he states Man is the
measure of all things, of the things that are, that they are, and of the things that are not, that they are
not. The way something appears to me, is true to me and the way something appears to you, is true to
you. Consequently, meaning there is no absolute truth. Aristotle and Plato, both argue holding that the
view on moral objectivism is that there is a reality or realm of object and facts existing independent of
the mind. What actions are right to some, might be wrong to others. Essentially, morality is arbitrary.
It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Morality intakes are relative to an individual s beliefs. If Euthyphro thinks punishing his father for
unmoral acts is moral than that is right for him. Both Plato and Aristotle would think that Protagoras s
claims are contradicting because if he says that relativism is truth for him than it would be false for
those who don t believe in relativism. Aristotle and Plato believe that there must be an objective truth,
something that is true for everyone at any given place or time. Taking an objective approach may not
always be relevant, particularly in cases where it is impossible to be objective because of the relevant
facts and viewpoints. In this case, how can someone know for sure that there is universal truth? Not
everyone is going to believe in the same principles as others, regardless of time, culture, place, etc.
Therefore, I believe there is no objective truth to

Evaluating The Objective Structured Clinical Examination
ASSESSING CLINICAL LEARNING: ASSESSMENT TASK 2 Validity of the Objective Structured
Clinical Examination (OSCE) in Physiotherapy Education Introduction The assessment of clinical
competence is an important part of entry to practice health professional training. Physiotherapy
education strives to produce entry to practice graduates who are able to safely and effectively manage
patient care in an independent manner. As physiotherapy students transition from the academic setting
in to the clinical setting, the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is often used as a
means of determining student s preparedness for safe and effective clinical practice. The OSCE has
been a revolutionary form of assessment, first described in the medical field and now widely applied
in a number of different health professions, including physiotherapy (Alsenany and Al Saif, 2012 and
Newble, 2004). First introduced in 1975 by Harden and colleagues as an alternative to the traditional
long and short case assessments used to evaluate medical student performance, the OSCE is now
generally accepted as a means of reliably and validly assessing the ability of the health professional to
function in a variety of clinical contexts (Swanson, Norman and Linn, 1995, Yudkowsky, 2009 and
Downing and Haladyna, 2009). Use of the OSCE has been reported in many different health
profession training programmes, including medicine, dentistry, nursing, physiotherapy and pharmacy

Corruption as a Consequence of Colonialism as portrayed in Achebe s The African Trilogy
All quotations are taken from the 1988 Picador edition of Chinua Achebe s The African Trilogy
He has put a knife on all the things that held us together and we have fallen apart (Things Fall Apart,

The things that held the Igbo tribe together were their close bonds of clan kinship, unified allegiance
to their gods, and their democratic society. These were the very things that the English set out to
attack, to put a knife on . Once they began this process, Igbo society was never to be the same again.

This confusion at the refusal of the Igbos to accept positions such as this is well illustrated in Arrow of

Well, are you accepting the offer or not? Clarke glowed with the I know this will knock you over

Tell the white man that Ezeulu will not be anybody s chief, except Ulu
What! shouted Clarke. Is the fellow mad?
I tink so sah, said the interpreter.
In that case he goes back to prison. Clarke was now really angry. What cheek! A witch doctor making
a fool of the British Administration in public! (498)
The selection of Ezeulu as a potential Warrant Chief is typical of the kind of selection regularly made
by the British a man who was already in the possession of real authority and wealth in his community.
However, the responses of those chosen were not always as idealistic as Ezeulu s. Many Igbos jumped
at the chance of some real power, safe in the knowledge that they were backed by British officials, and
Warrant chiefs became notorious for their corruption and exploitation. Speaking of the Warrant Chief

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Ci Engine
Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Diesel engine is a very popular prime mover used for surface transportation, agricultural machinery
needs and in industries. Diesel engines of more than 6.5 million units are being used only in the Indian
agricultural sectors for different activities and the import of petroleum products is a major draw off on
our foreign exchange sectors and with increasing demand in future years the condition is likely to
become worse.
Hence, it is an urgent need for a country like India to search for an option to run CI engine using a
different fuel than the conventional and petroleum based diesel and recently biodiesel, as CI engine
fuel alternative, has received more attention among many other possible options. Biodiesel has also ...

There is a reduction in all major measures of air pollution except NOx. Biodiesel is biodegradable
under environmental conditions when spilled, as it is 100% organic product.
1.8.3 Economic Benefits of Biodiesel The biodiesel can be extracted from any material that contains
fatty acids. The various vegetable fats and oils, animal fats, waste greases and edible oil processing
wastes can be used as feedstock for the production of biodiesel. The future needs for imported oil to
manufacture regular diesel fuel could be reduced by the significant use of biodiesel. The cost of
biodiesel is most likely to remain stable than fossil fuel costs in future, as fossil fuel supplies
decreases over time. As biodiesel is produced from agricultural feed stocks, it helps in improving
economy in rural areas. Some minor changes are needed in refuelling structures and spare parts
inventories. It is the only alternative fuel that runs in any conventional unmodified diesel engine.
Based on mutagenicity tests, 90% reduction in cancer risks are possible using biodiesel. Major engine
problems can be attended by the diesel skilled mechanics only.

Bladensburg is a small town within Prince George s County, Maryland. Though only 1.1 miles in size ,
Bladensburg is able to boast a rich history due to its placement along the Anacostia River and its
proximity to Washington D.C. The name of Bladensburg comes from Thomas Bladen a resident of
Prince Georges County and Maryland s provincial governor from1742 to1747. Bladen was the first
provincial governor of Maryland to be born in Maryland, but the land that made up the town before
1742 had a different name. It was called Beall town after Ninian Beall, a Scottish immigrant who
bought the land after he finished his time as an indentured servant. Beall s land was known as Black

However, the court insisted taverns would not affect the value of their property and allowed others to
apply for tavern licenses. The job of tradesmen likely extended to others in the town, which included
lawyers, and doctors. The occupations of citizens outside of those listed above are not widely
discussed in sources on town history. This aspect is unfortunately left to speculation and assumption.
It is known that, the town depended on agriculture although the size of the farms that supported this
economy is unknown, but tobacco was a common crop, so the unknown townspeople probably

Bladensburg was a port town, so sailors and longshoreman could have been living in the town at that

the town s port .
The port of Bladensburg was forty feet, able to accommodate large ships. At its height, the port s

All Falls Down By Kanye West
Today many people feel compelled to buy anything or everything with an expensive price tag. This
includes Expensive designer clothes, latest gadgets, expensive vehicles and many other similar things.
This form of consumerism has embedded itself in today s society; where it s encouraged to invest in
such materialistic possessions. Kanye West is an African American rapper, producer, and entrepreneur,
who articulates his struggle with consumerism and the struggle for those around him in his song All
Falls Down. West, utilizes puns, rhyme, and juxtaposition to highlight the issues surrounding
materialism that can be interpreted differently by different listeners such as African Americans and
White Americans.
In the first verse, West introduces a woman who has her problems with materialism. To elaborate on
her condition, Kanye uses a pun by stating:
She s so precious with the peer pressure,
Couldn t afford a car, so she named her daughter Alexis.
West s clever use of a pun illustrates how the woman couldn t afford a Lexus so she named her

The biggest trial and misfortune for Ernst Von Bergmann came with the death of Crown Prince and
Kaiser, Frederick. Crwon Prince and Kaiser suffered from hoarseness which means having a vocal
tone characterized by weakness of intensity and excessive breathiness, the hoarse voice of the

Gerhardt saw that the Prince had an irregular projection of the left vocal cord and diagnosed him with
Polypoid (nonmalignant growth or tumor protruding from the mucous lining of an organ such as the
nose, bladder, or intestine, often causing obstruction) which continued to grow. A few months later, on
May of 1887, The Prince was diagnosed with Epithelioma (benign or malignant tumor derived from
epithelial cells. Bergmann came to see the Prince and recommend laryngofissure and also removal of
the affected cord, and possibly part of the thyroid cartilage if it was affected. Since a well known
Doctor name Hahn in Berlin had successfully operated for the same disease.
A couple of days later, another Doctor confirmed the diagnosys of Bergmann, a Doctor name Tobold.
They brought it to the Crown Prince and the Prince also agreed with to have the surgery performed.

Essay about Nationalist Ideas in the Middle East
Nationality is the desire of a group of people to preserve or obtain common statehood and the ideology
stressing loyalty to the nation state or seeking independence of a national group. Michel Aflaq,
Theodor Herzl, and the Palestinian National Charter have fundamentally different ideas on
establishing nationalism, however each movement and charter wishes to establish a national identity
as well as a state due to their experiences of oppression and dispersion. Michel Aflaq describes his
ideas on Arab nationalism through the Arab Baath party, which entails the establishment of an Arab

Use Of Handheld Cameras Changed The Way Of Police
The use of smartphone cameras changed the way that police were perceived as well. Accusations of
police brutality could now be supported with video evidence instead of just a victim s word against an
officer. While filming police during stops and quality of life policing can hold the officer accountable
in incidents of police brutality, cell phone video footage doesn t always tell the whole story. In August,
two Kansas police officers came under scrutiny after a 36 second video was posted on social media of
them roughly restraining a suspect on the ground (Hunter). However, the police s body cam and dash
cam footage told a different story: after the suspect, John Harrison was pulled over for not wearing a
seatbelt, the police discovered the smell of marijuana coming from his car, that he was driving with a
suspended license and had more than 20 warrants out for his arrest (Kiesling and Smith). The dash
cam video shows Harrison resisting arrest, attempting to flee (Hunter) and punching one of the police
officers (Kiesling and Smith). The police were found innocent and Harrison was put in jail for
outstanding warrants and is facing charges for driving with a suspended license, battery on a police
officer, and obstruction of justice (Hunter).

A Survey Study On How Survey Studies Affects The...
Introduction
One of the primary obstacles in survey studies is often eliciting responses from surveyed individuals.
As we have seen throughout this semester, larger sample sizes are beneficial to statistical analyses, as
increasing the sample size can increase the power of a hypothesis test, reduce the sampling variability
in a sample, and meet the baseline number of collected observations that are needed to perform
specific analyses. This is not to say that larger sample sizes are unequivocally better; a truly random,
yet representative sample is more important. If one already has a large, randomly collected and
representative sample, increasing the sample size will not improve the analysis. Our study focuses on

Methods
Who: We surveyed Vassar students sitting alone at tables at the Retreat, and Vassar students as they
entered and exited the All Campus Dining Center (Deece). We believe that by surveying individuals
from the Retreat and the Deece, we achieved a truly random sample with respect to our research
question. In other words, we do not think that the choice to eat at the Deece or Retreat directly affects
willingness to take a survey.
What: The response rate (Yes/No) to short, anonymous surveys offered on a control, controversial and
neutral topic.
Where: The Retreat and Deece. These areas are well trafficked by most of the Vassar student
population, and we believe that individuals surveyed here are representative of Vassar s student body

When: November 11 and 12 (between 2PM and 4PM)
Why: We are interested in determining if the survey topic (neutral vs. controversial) affects the
number of Vassar students that are willing to participate in that survey.
How: (see methodology for additional information) We went to The Retreat on November 11 for one

Lobbying is a way for self interest groups to persuade the outcomes of policies through discussions

politics to persuade decisions. Not only from U.S. interests, but foreign interest groups are pouring
millions of dollars into American lobbying groups to persuade U.S. policies that affect millions of
American citizens nation wide. Many lobbying groups give foreign investors whose interests do not
coincide with the American citizens, a vehicle to influence U.S. domestic policies. Julia DiLaura, an
investigative journalist for the Center of Public Integrity, confirms this in her article Foreign
Governments Pay to Influence U.S. Policy , illustrates that these

Paul Brandt Music Analysis
This essay is separated into four parts by the approach used to analyze the music preformed by Paul
Brandt on April 5th, 2017 as part of a religious studies course focusing on religion and music at the
University of Calgary, RELS373. Scott provides a standard of music s role in cultures, explained in
lecture, culture is seen as a product of religion, geographic location, and language. The phenomenon
of a spiritual experience due to music is explained through the perception of William James. The
metaphysical nature of music is analyzed philosophically, from the point of view of Rudolph Otto.
The experience of praise (to God) is analyzed with a doxological approach through the lenses of
James Frazer and Dietterich.

The role of music to Paul Brandt was to share his religion with others; similar to Scott who says it s to
provide understanding to a culture s experience. William James believes the strength of the musical
experience is through the religion, which parallels with Brandts belief of phenomena of the positive
health benefits to singing and sharing praise to God. By involving religion into his music, Brandt
doesn t only invite others to explore Christianity, Rudolph Otto could say Brandt invites God to join
his praise. James Frazer explores doxology bay including music is the most affective of the arts,
Dietterich adds on that the praise to god through music is a form of theology as doxology, and Paul
Brandt said that music is what he uses to create relationships with people and invite them to

The Titanic Of A Titanic
The Titanic crashed at 2:20 a.m. on April 15, 1912, the British ocean liner sinks into the North Atlantic
Ocean. The massive ship, which carried 2,200 passengers and crew, had struck an iceberg two and half
hours before sinking. The beginning which is the construction of the Titanic took 3 years with the help
anywhere from three thousand to fifteen thousand men. The RMS Titanic took sail April 11, 1912
from Southampton, England in the hopes of New York City. The Titanic s passengers were divided
into three separate classes, determined not only by the price of their ticket but by wealth and social
class, those traveling in first class, the wealthiest passengers on board, were prominent and those
traveling in third class were among the poorest. The Titanic received several warnings throughout its
travel and ignored because the ship was assumed unsinkable. The Titanic eventually hit an iceberg and
it was warned prior to impact. The ship didn t have much time and couldn t do it anything about
impact. It was much too late to retaliate to the wreckage, the only thing they could do was hope.
Aboard the Titanic only seven hundred and six passengers survived that fateful night of April 15,
1912. Even though the Titanic was the biggest ship at its time and thought to be unsinkable, the worst
thing possibly imagined happened and it is with that loss of the ship and lives helpless people, we
today learn that anything can happen at any moment of our lives.

How Did The Normans Influence Anglo Saxon Culture
Before the English culture came to play, it first had to develop during the times of the Anglo Saxons.
Numerous events happened during that time from invasions, organizations and their structures of life.
The Normans, who were pagan barbarians, came to Europe during the 8th century and contributed to
the development of English culture with their lifestyle culture and developing their government. The
Normans were slowly adapting to the lifestyle in Europe, obtaining influences from the Anglo Saxons.
The Normans were established Christians and had a god fearing mentality. To celebrate their devotion
to christ, they built towering stone churches and cathedrals. There was only one church in Western
Europe and the Pope in Rome was the head of the Roman Catholic Church. The people were told how
to behave and were expected to attend on Sundays. Aside from religion the Normans also had their
ways of speaking and living. They liked to play with their words and told riddles that way. They wrote

California High Speed Rail
High speed rail is generally defined as trains capable of travelling at least 150 miles per hour. When
the California High speed Rail is completed, travelers can get on a train at the Transbay Transit
Terminal in San Francisco and arrive at the Union Station in Los Angeles in two hours and forty
minutes. The newly constructed high speed rail in California is going to operate at over 200 miles per
hour on average over the entire 800 mile system from San Diego in the south to Sacramento in the

What makes an environment inviting for posting on a bulletin board?
The most inviting factor about the environment of the first bulletin group was the purpose of the room.
The printing room is a place where most students stay for a long time and work with computers, print
their assignments and documents and even socialize with each other. The nature of this staying makes
it more probable that the ads and notices being seen over time. The high traffic of the room and long

access to other systems in the labs at the campus and comes to the place on a daily basis, considering
the categories of posts with most frequency including tutoring and social categories, it can be inferred
that the main audience of the bulletins are undergraduate students who participate more in social
events and needs a tutor for their courses.
On the other hand, the second bulletin group were limited access boards that did not have various
posts on them and their posts had more text than the photos on them. Also, they were located close to
offices related to student services and societies. Therefore, it can be concluded that the aim of the
board was informing students about their services and opportunities and did not intend to just be seen
by the greater number of audiences but to be seen by the right target group who are looking for that
information. Although they also used the color for attracting the attention, the chosen color which was
blue was not a vivid color and tried to keep the audience for longer time.

The Newsies Strike Of 1899
The Newsies Strike of 1899
On July 21, 1899, New York City was filled with the voices of the newsies. Back in the 1800s,
newspapers were the only source of media, they were the only way of knowing what was going on
with the world. The newsies, also known as newsboys, were the ones who sold the papers, it was how
they earned a living. Every morning, the newsies would line up and pay for a bundle of papers so they
could sell them and hopefully make a profit. Most newsies were either orphans or runaways. When a
newsboy did sell his papers, he used that money to buy food to tide him over for a day or two, but he
had to save some of that money so he could buy more papers in the morning. If a newsies didn t sell

Gattegno And The Silent Way
Caleb Gattegno (1911 1988), one of the most prominent and productive educators of the twentieth
century, is best known for his innovative approaches to teaching and learning foreign languages (The
Silent Way). In 1972, Caleb Gattegno introduced The Silent Way, that is, a language teaching method
whose basic concept is that the teacher should remain silent much of the time, thus its name while the
students speak as much as possible. In the same way, Gattegno was under the impression that the
teacher should focus on the way students learn more often rather than how to teach. In fact, he
expressed support for language learning by problem solving, creative, discovering activity and all that,
which is directly opposed to drills such as seen in audiolingualism. He, on the other hand, contends
that students could naturally earn a new language like a child, through perception, awareness,
creativity, and other mental processes. Besides being critical of linguistic theory, he devoted his
thinking to a pedagogical perspective called the subordination of teaching to learning in that learners
demands are placed at the center of teaching, so teaching is subordinate or dependent to learning.
Gattegno holds that understanding the spirit of a language that ... Show more content on

Another example is of Boeing launches, based on the principle of Project Homework to eliminate

Compare And Contrast Invisible Man And Brave New World
In H. G. Wells book The Invisible Man, and Aldous Huxley s Brave New World, a social struggle
between the mainstream society and a character estranged from the established normal behavior of the
masses of people in these novels exists. While the main characters in both of these books are different
from society for entirely different reasons, analyzing these novels using marxist criticism exemplifies
just how similar the societies and main characters really are.
First and foremost the characters in both these books do not even come close to fitting into the society
that surrounds them. In Wells book his character Jack Griffin has discovered how to turn himself
invisible and Griffin desperately searches for a cure to his invisibleness while ... Show more content

While it may seem a bad thing when society would rather cast out those who are different rather than
accept them, this is not necessarily true. Civilized societies cast out criminals, which is not seen as bad
by most. This is where many of the similarities between Brave New World and The Invisible Man s
societies end. Griffin is not accepted because of his abnormally violent and criminally inclined
behavior. While in BNW the characters are rejected from society because they wish to think for
themselves and do not want to participate in a meaningless mechanized existence. Marxist criticism
highlights this difference, which might be harder to see without it, as in one book this social
disengagement is because the government has mandated a standard of behavior, which almost
everyone follows for their entire life without once questioning it. While in the other the social partition
is due to the morals and values of individuals which are widely accepted among their society which is
why Griffin is not accept as he has threatened and violated society s trust.
While both these societies do not accept people who are different these two books do an excellent job
of exemplifying how different societies can both not accept people who are different but one society
would still be considered morally

Utopia ideals and projects are barely in the discussion of contemporary architecture projects and

Currently, city planners and designers seem to have no interest in understanding the relationship
between utopian thinking and urban planning. It all seems that the lack of interest in utopian thinking
in the present days are result of the evolution of time, as present days no longer has the ability to be

where Nina and Louis are meeting at the restaurant. They are discussing their professional and

Reflection On The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum
I have attended the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of Arts for my cultural event essay, on
Wednesday November 18, 2015. Attending this museum is considered a cultural event since it
provides you with the opportunity to learn about the different styles of artworks of different time
periods. This museum contained many works that are influenced by classicism which is a style of
historical tradition or aesthetic attitudes based on the art of Greece and Rome ( Classicism and
Neoclassicism ). One particular piece of art that drew upon my attention was the leaded glass window
of the Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn created by Louis Comfort Tiffany, an American artist and
designer of the 19th century ( The Charles Hosmer ). The window was created based upon the original
painting of the Aurora by Will H. Low, a muralist designer for Tiffany ( Biography ). The Aurora is
influenced by the roots of western civilization by visual characteristics such as her contrapposto
stance. I believe that this art is trying to communicate how Aurora is preparing to renew herself in the
water to carry out her duties as a goddess. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to appear through thus allowing the concept of early morning to be displayed in the artwork. Roman

I watched The Story of Bottled Water . This video s main goal is to persuade you not to buy bottled

highlighted how water bottles were sitting in landfills in India and polluting the world. I agree with the

The Strong Sense Of Totalitarianism In George Orwell s 1984
Nothing unmasks a man like his use of power Elbert Hubbard. When power goes too far, you get to
see what people are really like. George Orwell s 1984 demonstrates a strong sense of totalitarianism in
a society called Oceania . The leader of Oceania is the Inner Party, or the Party for short. The Party is
a group of elites who use a symbolic figure they call Big Brother to control the middle and lower
classes. They use the Thought Police, which is a government group of unknown individuals that aim
to suppress these lower classes and their individuality. This helps to accomplish the Party s goal of
complete control. In a world with manipulation and surveillance, it is inevitable that government
corruption exists. Big Brother uses brainwashing as a way of manipulating children. When the Parsons
children strike Winston, he thinks to himself, that wretched women must lead a life of terror. Another
year...they would be watching her day and night for symptoms of unorthodoxy...all children nowadays
were horrible...they were systematically turned into ungovernable little savages (Orwell 24). With this
method of manipulation, the children feel that they should be more loyal to Big Brother than to their
own families. The children attend the Party s youth organization called the Junior Spies, where they
teach the kids to spy on their parents and to report them to the Thought Police if they are not following
the rules. This is effective because the parents would feel like their children will be merciful, but in
reality, the children will betray them and expose their wrongdoings. This breaks contemporary
American norms by allowing the government to control the parents through the children. If the parents
get caught by their kids, they can get vaporized , and the children would feel like they are fulfilling
their duty to Big Brother, rather than thinking they are committing disloyalty to their families. The
childhood brainwashing establishes emotional discipline in adulthood. However, this means the adults
are never able to show their true emotions. When Winston talks to O Brien after the Thought Police
captured him, O Brien states that, the old civilizations claimed they were founded on love and

Black and White Photography
By Pranjal Bhatia
Introduction
Photography is a scientific art of creating images by capturing light on a light sensitive material. Mist
and fog converts the world into a natural monochrome with a soft stillness to it. Our eyes might not
see in black and white but the human brain knows to appreciate the art that a monochrome picture is.
Black and white cameras were existed since the 1930s and for an average user it might just seem like
an old technology that has been replaced with the new cool go pros and mirror less cameras but for
photographers and art lovers it s still an asset. Black and white does not necessarily mean removal of
color, it requires its own way of seeing. Film photography allows one to have ... Show more content

Light and shadow is more obvious in absence of color. At the same time it does not take away from
the composition of a picture. A strong composition still tends to be a strong composition minus the
color. Since now we no longer have color to interest the viewer, one is able to appreciate the curve, the
shapes and the texture, which otherwise may go unnoticed.
Monochrome film photography allows one to learn and express emotions in their art differently. Great
examples of this are the movie from 40s. They depicted all the emotions death, love, and happiness
with shades. Color usually makes this process very easy. Another use of monochrome is for shooting
nudes. Eliminating color removes the smutty component from the picture and allows one to appreciate
the naked body as piece of art. One of the biggest reasons for the popularity of black and white
photography is its timeless nature. Black and white is still considered a piece from photographic past

Digital is great for color and can be pretty good for black and white also but in order to add the three

In the article, Let s Stop Freaking Out About Artificial Intelligence, authors Eric Schmidt and
Sebastian Thrun argue that artificial intelligence s benefits vastly outweigh the consequences, and that
it can be used to improve our everyday lives. The authors argue that when one self driving car makes a
mistake, all of the self driving cars learn from it (Schmidt Thrun 4), implying that self driving cars are
much safer than cars that are driven manually by humans. They claim that since people don t learn
from other people s mistakes, hundreds of thousands of people die every year due to traffic accidents
because of it. With artificial intelligence, those numbers would vastly decrease and would save
hundred of thousands of lives. In addition, the authors take a much more optimistic view of A.I, as
they write about how the AI revolution could free us from menial, repetitive, and mindless work
(Schmidt Thrun 5), meaning that artificial intelligence can do all of the dirty work for us, while we do
the much easier things. Schmidt and Thrun implies that we would be much happier doing the simpler
things and not having to worry about possible injuries during their work. They state that artificial
intelligence can be used to protect us from identity theft with facial recognition and improve our lives
and abilities by harnessing A.I. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since artificial intelligence takes money and machines, maintenance and costly bills will arise, putting
more pressure on repairmen and engineers. Furthermore, artificial intelligent machines are much
cheaper than human workers in the long run, leaving thousands, possibly millions of people without
jobs. If machines were to do everything, like in the movie Wall E, we would be brainless like zombies
without much

Since ancient times all the way to the present day there have been monumental advances in
construction technology and safety, from the techniques and methods of construction to the equipment
used in construction which wasn t revolutionized during the industrial revolution. The only constant
throughout all the aforementioned advancements is the use of scaffolding, from ancient times where
sockets in the walls around the Paleolithic cave paintings at Lascaux, the Berlin Foundry Cup depicts
scaffolding in ancient Greece (early 5th century BC), the ancient Egyptians, Nubians and Chinese are
also recorded as having used scaffolding like structures to build tall buildings. Early scaffolding was
made of wood and secured with rope knots. All the way to the present day where scaffolding has
enclosed and has been used to repair the dome of the Capital of the United States of America or even
The Statue of Libetry, construction workers around the world are using temporary work platforms
(scaffolds) to reach areas where work must be done which by any other means would be otherwise
unfeasible. Along with the advancements in construction technology and safety so has scaffolding
changed with the times, form the make up of the materials used, to the requirements demanded of the
builders in order for the scaffold to be deemed safe for use. This paper will discuss: Different types of
scaffolds that can be built and utilized for different tasks and the material they are made up of,

  • 2. Cause And Effect On Gun Crime Next, the comparison of countries and cities that have reduced legal gun ownership with those that had an increase in legal gun ownership will show how crime was affected. In 1998, the United Kingdom put the Firearms Act in place as an answer to a shooting spree at a primary school in Dunblane, Scotland. The act banned all private citizens from owning handguns. According to Joyce Lee Malcolm, a law professor at George Mason University, violent crime increased after the law was instated (Domenech 28). Whereas, in the United States, an increase in legal gun ownership has seen a decrease in overall crime rate. Based off of a report from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2013, 200 million guns were legally owned in the nation in 1994 compared to the 300 million legally owned guns in 2013 yet there were 1.3 million violent crimes involving firearms in 1994 compared to the estimate of 350,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2011 (Domench 28). In short, the data shows that gun prohibiting policies do not always lead to a decrease in violent crime. On the contrary they can correlate to an increase in crime. Although, some in the anti gun group will reason that because America has one of the highest gun crime rates in the world while Europe s gun crime is relatively low, American society should not allow citizens to own guns. This may be true of course; however stricter gun ownership laws and crime increase is not conclusive. As Mauser states in Would Banning Firearms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Language Is Forever Forgotten Imagine a little native boy who grows up in a culture and with a language that is only common to his tribe. For him this sole language is sufficient because the tribe is his family and as long as he can communicate with them nothing else matters. Suddenly his tribe starts to speak more English and is becoming westernized. Others, including his own family, start ignoring their culture and raising their children differently. Flash forward years on he is the only one that can speak his language and he feels alone. He just wishes that his tribe had taught their children, their native language, just so he would have someone to talk to. Instead the language will die with him and in this sense, so does the culture. No one will ever be able to translate anything from his tribe and his descendants will know nothing. The language is forever forgotten. While this scenario may seem farfetched for many 21st century Americans, this is the reality for many individuals who speak an uncommon language around the world. It s becoming an issue in the linguistics community, who want to preserve these dying languages. Language is the way we all communicate and it s a sneak peek into the past and different cultures. Many linguistic scholars believe we need to preserve languages now for the future generations. Evaluating The Objective Structured Clinical Examination ASSESSING CLINICAL LEARNING: ASSESSMENT TASK 2 Validity of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) in Physiotherapy Education Introduction The assessment of clinical competence is an important part of entry to practice health professional training. Physiotherapy education strives to produce entry to practice graduates who are able to safely and effectively manage patient care in an independent manner. As physiotherapy students transition from the academic setting in to the clinical setting, the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is often used as a means of determining student s preparedness for safe and effective clinical practice. The OSCE has been a revolutionary form of assessment, first described in the medical field and now widely applied in a number of different health professions, including physiotherapy (Alsenany and Al Saif, 2012 and Newble, 2004). First introduced in 1975 by Harden and colleagues as an alternative to the traditional long and short case assessments used to evaluate medical student performance, the OSCE is now generally accepted as a means of reliably and validly assessing the ability of the health professional to function in a variety of clinical contexts (Swanson, Norman and Linn, 1995, Yudkowsky, 2009 and Downing and Haladyna, 2009). In 1972, Caleb Gattegno introduced The Silent Way, that is, a language teaching method whose basic concept is that the teacher should remain silent much of the time, thus its name while the students speak as much as possible. In the same way, Gattegno was under the impression that the teacher should focus on the way students learn more often rather than how to teach. In fact, he expressed support for language learning by problem solving, creative, discovering activity and all that, which is directly opposed to drills such as seen in audiolingualism. He, on the other hand, contends that students could naturally earn a new language like a child, through perception, awareness, creativity, and other mental processes. Besides being critical of linguistic theory, he devoted his thinking to a pedagogical perspective called the subordination of teaching to learning in that learners demands are placed at the center of teaching, so teaching is subordinate or dependent to learning. Marxist criticism highlights this difference, which might be harder to see without it, as in one book this social disengagement is because the government has mandated a standard of behavior, which almost everyone follows for their entire life without once questioning it. This museum contained many works that are influenced by classicism which is a style of historical tradition or aesthetic attitudes based on the art of Greece and Rome ( Classicism and Neoclassicism ). One particular piece of art that drew upon my attention was the leaded glass window of the Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn created by Louis Comfort Tiffany, an American artist and designer of the 19th century ( The Charles Hosmer ). The window was created based upon the original painting of the Aurora by Will H. Low, a muralist designer for Tiffany ( Biography ). George Orwell s 1984 demonstrates a strong sense of totalitarianism in a society called Oceania . The leader of Oceania is the Inner Party, or the Party for short. The Party is a group of elites who use a symbolic figure they call Big Brother to control the middle and lower classes. They use the Thought Police, which is a government group of unknown individuals that aim to suppress these lower classes and their individuality. This helps to accomplish the Party s goal of complete control. In a world with manipulation and surveillance, it is inevitable that government corruption exists. Big Brother uses brainwashing as a way of manipulating children. When the Parsons children strike Winston, he thinks to himself, that wretched women must lead a life of terror. Another year...they would be watching her day and night for symptoms of unorthodoxy...all children nowadays were horrible...they were systematically turned into ungovernable little savages (Orwell 24). With this method of manipulation, the children feel that they should be more loyal to Big Brother than to their own families. The children attend the Party s youth organization called the Junior Spies, where they teach the kids to spy on their parents and to report them to the Thought Police if they are not following the rules. This is effective because the parents would feel like their children will be merciful, but in reality, the children will betray them and expose their wrongdoings. This breaks contemporary American norms by allowing the government to control the parents through the children. If the parents get caught by their kids, they can get vaporized , and the children would feel like they are fulfilling their duty to Big Brother, rather than thinking they are committing disloyalty to their families. The childhood brainwashing establishes emotional discipline in adulthood. However, this means the adults are never able to show their true emotions. Monochrome film photography allows one to learn and express emotions in their art differently. Great examples of this are the movie from 40s.
