has to receive additional training in the evidence Law and also in court practice and procedure. The
Barrister is there to show whether or not the Defendant is innocent or whether the Defendant is guilty.

My Position From A Kantian Perspective Essay
The Categorical Debate George told Martha where a large sum of money he had accumulated was
stored. He asked her to see that the money was given to the Society for Protection against Alien
Control of the Earth (SPACE). Now that he has died, she is considering using the money to support
the activities of the local Hunger Task Force, an organization that provides donated food to those who
need it. What should Martha do? My position from a Kantian perspective is that Martha should give
the money to the Society for Protection against Alien Control of the Earth (SPACE) because of the
agreement Martha made with George before he died. I shall present arguments to support my position
from a Kantian perspective by setting the precedence demonstrated by Kant as is evidence in duty and
moral obligation. I will also present arguments to refute the utilitarian position that Martha should use
the money to support the activities of the local Hunger Task Force, an organization that provides
donated food to those who need it. As well as the arguments present by Kants catergorical imperative.
Kant ascribes Duty means that we should never act in any way that we wouldn t want the principle we
act on to be a universal law. Which in effect is something that is done as part of a job or because the
law requires it. Here, Martha agreed to ensure that the money left by George be given to (SPACE)
therefore Martha should abide by Georges wishes since her job required

The Impact Of Political Machine On The City
Summer Eldred Evans

U.S. Urban History
Essay: Urban America
Discuss the political machine and its operations in the city, 1865 1939 The political machine is very
powerful in the city and because of how powerful it is that urban United States was able to develop so
much and increase in power in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. A political machine is system of
political organization based on patronage, the spoils system, and political ties. Sometimes political
machines have a boss and sometimes they may not have a boss, and always have a corps of workers
who depend on the patronage given by government contracts and jobs. Machine politics has existed in
many United States cities for a long time now, but are still in effect in some areas. The rapid growth of
American cities in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s created huge problems for the government that ran
the cities as in most cases in was very poorly structured and could not really give the people what they
needed. It is because of the inability of city government to provide these things to the people that there
was a rise in political machines. These political machines gained support from the population by
providing houses for people who needed them and by also offering people jobs that they desperately
needed. This gave the political machines a lot of power and support from there loyal followers. Voters
are often rewarded with patronage jobs. However, patronage can result in poorer service to the

Piaget vs. Vygotsky
The theory of cognitive development is defined as the development of the ability to think and reason.
There are many theorists who have studied cognitive theories and the most famous is Jean Piaget.
Cognitive development covers the physical and emotional stages of a child. The basic premise for
cognitive development is to show the different stages of the development of a child so you can
understand where the child might be in their development. Understanding cognitive development will
better prepare the teacher when it comes to dealing with children and how to handle situations. The
way children learn and mentally grow plays a central role in their learning process and abilities. When
the teacher knows about the development of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second aspect of his cognitive development is the Zone of Proximal Development. Vygotsky s
idea of a zone of proximal development is the second aspect of his cognitive theory. A zone of
proximal development describes tasks that children have not learned but are capable of learning. The
zone of proximal development contains things that children may not be able to do alone at the time,
but are on the verge of achieving with some assistance. He believes that learning takes place during
the Zone of Proximal Development. Vygotsky felt it was important to work within the zone proximal
development to achieve maximum learning. Another aspect is Scaffolding, which means providing a
child with a great deal of support during the early stages of development. Scaffolding involves the
final piece of Vygotsky s cognitive development theory. Teachers will be applying both Piaget s and
Vugptsky s theories on cognitive development. When it comes to Piaget s theory a kindergarten
teacher would focus more on how the children are developing and not how the final outcome will be.
If the children are given a finger painting assignment you will want to see how they handle paints and
what they are doing. Teachers will also need to provide learning opportunities that will help them
development in each stage. When you are teaching about shapes

The English Puritans
The English Puritans were a group of reformed Christians looking to escape for England and its
religious persecutions. With reformed beliefs and ideals, the Puritans came to the New World forming
new behaviors and strengthening unity among believers in God and worship. Causing controversial
conflict and laying persecutions of their own, the Puritans will subse quently transform early America
by laying the foundation for political, social and religious plat forms.
During the 16th century, King Henry VIII would come to find himself in a bit of a pre dicament. His
first wife, Catherine failed to produce a son which was unacceptable since there was such precedence
in having a male heir as a successor to the throne. King Henry s answer to this would be a divorce.
However, this was strictly forbidden under the laws of the Catholic Church so King Henry would start
a reformation leading to the Church of England. Most of the beliefs and religious structure will stay
the same apart from divorce. These shifts in religious re form would bring about many who disagreed
with the fundamental beliefs of the Church of Eng land and they would come to be known as the
Puritans. The Puritans were of Protestant faith and found the reformed Church of England to be still
too true to the Catholic Church. This group of Protestants believed in a more simple and pure way of
life with a closer relationship with God. Thus, being deemed with the title, Puritans. They felt that the

Theoretical Cause Of Crime
A thorough understanding of the many theories of criminology is the grounding of knowledge to any
criminal justice practitioner or policy maker. Policy makers can utilize the theoretical understanding to
design policies that not only address remedies to the current crime problem, but also find the
underlying cause of crime to further deter it. Criminal justice practitioners can use criminological
theories to address the cause of crime and offer a rehabilitative fix, rather than simply incarcerate
offenders.
Four theoretical aspects that any criminal theory must incorporate to be a true theory of crime are
correlation, theoretical rationale, time sequence, and an absence of spuriousness (Akers Sellers, 2013).
Correlation must do with how the theoretical cause of crime leads to the commission of crime.
Theoretical rationale explains why the theoretical origin of crime causes the crime. The time sequence
must show that the theoretical cause of crime always precedes the crime. The final aspect, the absence
of spuriousness, rules out other causes for the crime as the real explanation of crime. (Akers Sellers,
2013).
A major challenge that faces the criminal justice field today are youth gangs. Strain Theory is perhaps
the best theoretical explanation of juvenile gang criminal activity. Agnew clarified strain as the
relationships in which others are not treating the individual as he or she would like to be treated.

Economic Theory Of Stimulating Aggregate Demand Essay
The United States is better off economically today than it was in 2008 when the Great Recession hit.
The government had to act fast to minimize job losses, stabilize the housing and credit markets, and
get consumers back to work and spending money. The fiscal stimulus programs were effective in
doing just that by lowering unemployment and stabilizing the stock market. There are a few things,
however, that are intriguing.
Based on what we have learned in our economic theory of stimulating aggregate demand through
fiscal stimulus, the side effect is typically inflation (Schiller, 2013). The United States has not seen
inflation like what the economists predicted with the latest inflation rate at 0.2% (Coin News Media
Group, 2015). Despite all of the billions of dollars pumped into the economy, the Fed has been unable
to sustain the desired 2 percent inflation rate, which they believe is indicative of economic growth
(Mason, 2015). And, while the job market appears to be healthy with unemployment hovering around
5.1%, 27.7 percent of the unemployed, or 2.2 million, have been jobless for 27 weeks or more
(Ferreira, 2015). Those who are employed part time because they aren t able to find full time
employment and those who have given up looking for employment, even after their unemployment
benefits have expired, aren t counted in the unemployment numbers (Ferreira, 2015). According to a
survey done by Pricewaterhouse Coopers, an increasing share of employers want to hire but

Grea Great Bosses
LIKE A BOSS
Are you just an average boss or truly a great one?
No doubt there are as many leadership styles as there are the numbers of leaders. However, I bet there
are some people for whom you would immediately work for over and over again.
You ve said things like: love that guy, changed my life, best boss ever.
Are your employees saying the same about you?
With the help of Gallup poll findings, the Harvard Business Review conducted a two year study of the
daily interactions of over 80,000 managers. This comprehensive research uncovered findings of what
brings out employee devotion and optimal performance.
What makes a great boss?
Research found that the ultimate boss separates him/herself from the supervisor herd by focusing on
employee skills and talents. Successful supervisors have an uncanny ability to discover what is
uniquely awesome about each person, capitalize on that individual s talent, and then build teams and
systems around it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, average to good managers play checkers while the best supervisors play chess.
Think about it this way. In checkers, the pieces all move the same way and have the same value. In
essence, the game pieces are interchangeable. If you understand checkers, and use a system to align
the pieces, you can get through an eight hour day and grind on.
Now think about the game of chess. Each chess piece has its own value and moves in a different way.
Chess is a game of strategic thinking. It s only by using the unique aspects of each piece and
integrating them into your over game plan that you win in chess.
So, switch your game from checkers to chess and watch your team s performance grow.

Personal Identity by Derek Parfit
In his 1971 paper Personal Identity , Derek Parfit posits that it is possible and indeed desirable to free
important questions from presuppositions about personal identity without losing all that matters. In
working out how to do so, Parfit comes to the conclusion that the question about identity has no
importance (Parfit, 1971, p. 4.2:3). In this essay, I will attempt to show that Parfit s thesis is a valid
one, with positive implications for human behaviour. The first section of the essay will examine the
thesis in further detail and the second will assess how Parfit s claims fare in the face of criticism.

4.2:7), we should abandon the language of identity. Therefore, for cases in which we are unable to
speak of identity (because the psychological continuity relation is not one one), psychological
continuity will be just as important as identity.
The problem with psychological continuity, however, is that many of the relations involved (including
memory relations) appear to presuppose identity. Parfit attempts to avoid this charge of circularity by
using the concept of q memory. Q memories do not presume that the person having the q memory and
the person who actually had the experience are the same person, unlike ordinary memories which do
presuppose identity. Parfit applies this same redesription to other relations of psychological continuity
such as intention and responsibility.
Parfit returns to the idea of the importance of the psychological continuity relation in survival to
introduce an even more important relation psychological connectedness . Psychological connectedness
is a kind of direct psychological continuity. It is not transitive as it requires the holding of direct
psychological relations (Parfit, 1971, p. 4.2:13). This contrasts with psychological continuity which is
transitive because it only requires overlapping chains of direct psychological relations (Parfit, 1971,
p.4.2:13). The relation of psychological connectedness is more important for Parfit than that of
psychological continuity A person should

The Structural Health Monitoring Systems
Abstract Structural health monitoring systems frequently use optimisation algorithms to update or
identify system parameters in structural dynamics. In this study, an implementation of similar updating
techniques is developed for thermal non destructive material inspection using adaptive response
surfaces to approximate experimental parameters (thermal conductivity, convective heat transfer
excitation timing) for updating a finite element model. The use of thermal models results in high non
linearities in parameter influences and parameter updating accuracies, which are discussed. In this
work, adaptive response surface methods are compared using interpolation, piecewise spline and
polynomial regression functions. In this paper, the most widely used optimisation routines for
structural dynamics are compared and validated on a thermal case with multiple independent
parameters. The influence of the choice of optimisation parameters is discussed and compared
between the different optimisation routines. Finally, a well suited data reduction technique is
investigated which transforms the data set to a smaller, focused response model in each optimisation
loop and delivers a proper regression accuracy. It is demonstrated that the use of interpolating
regression delivers more accurate parameter estimations in contrast to structural dynamic updating
where polynomial regression delivers superior results.

Science Should Progress Through Falsification And...
Popper believes science should progress through falsification and demarcation as a way to distinguish
real scientific theories from pseudoscience. (A. Popper) Falsification is how a scientist should look at
a problem they are attempting to solve instead of using existing theories and treating them as scientific
laws you should instead try and prove existing theories wrong using emperical evidence to solve the
questions being asked. (A. Popper) believes Science keeps moving forward and the only way to
progress is to prove existing theories wrong, replacing them with new theories. In contrast verification
of theories (attempting to prove a theory right) holds little water with Popper this is because proving a
theory right has already been done. All a researcher must do to prove a theory right is duplicate a
previous study or experiment and this according to (A. Popper) is not science and is not the
advancement of scientific knowledge. Furthermore (A. Popper 4.0 The growth of Human Knowledge)
Popper believes science is falsifiable and that their are no true facts. The scientific method uses a
deductive process. However this deductice process does not compare the hypothesis and conclusions
with the actual theory. All observations and conclusions are theory based. Discussed previously
theories according to Popper should be scrutinized using falsification.
Popper has a four step procedure for his view of the deductive process. (A. Popper 4.0 The growth of

Critical analysis of Disability by Nancy Mairs

May 11, 2012 Author of disability Nancy Mairs who s a feminist and a cripple, has accomplished a lot
in writing and teaching. Her remarkable personality shows in many of her essays especially in
Disability which was first published in 1987 in the New York Times. In this essay, Nancy Mairs shows
how disabled people are constantly excluded, especially from the media. By giving out facts and
including her personal experiences, Mairs aims for making some changes regarding the relationship

Nancy Mairs starts Disability with self revelations which show through her entire essay, like for
instance: I am a forty three year old woman crippled with multiple sclerosis... ; take it from me... ; I m
the advertisers dream... The fact that Nancy Mairs mentions herself a lot makes her essay lack
objectivity. But the reason behind this is that few are the people who can relate to this topic. So no one
really knows what this is about as much as Mairs and all disabled people who form a minority do.
This tells us that the author knows what she s talking about. Since this essay is addressed to people
who don t know much about disability, its purpose is not merely to inform us about the physical
disability itself but also about the psychological effects of the constant isolation and exclusion of
people with disabilities. This makes the essay persuasive rather than argumentative since the author
only mentioned her attitude towards this subject. But what a better way to do it than having a person
with disability talk about his/her personal experiences? Persuading people of Mairs point of view
which is that disabled people should be included in the daily activities couldn t be done by just stating
objective facts. This kind of persuasion needs examples. To prove that disabled people are unfairly
treated, Nancy Mairs gives an example of a crippled women who was stopped from doing what she
wanted to do, though she was still physically able to do

Ottoman Empire
By the turn of the twentieth century, the once powerful Ottoman Islamic Middle Eastern order was
rendered unstable by conflicts emanating from its core components to the challenge of European
dominance. Its economic order was restructured into different parts of the region. The Capitulations,
were transformed into tools of European economic and political control. In an effort to recover Middle
Eastern military strength and prevent rebellion and European imperialism, the rulers of Egypt and the
Ottoman Empire started to purchase European military technology. But the cost associated with these
endeavors exceeded the financial capacities of the two states and they were forced to seek loans from
European lenders. The economic environment eventually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But by 1920, neither that state nor its Islamic institutions held prominence in the Middle East, and its
former Arab and Turkish subjects faded into obscurity. In its final century the Ottoman system
underwent considerable transformation. The reform movement strengthened the administrative
efficiency and the military capability of the empire, but at the same time the reforms were bound to
undermine the foundations on which the Ottoman order rested. Despite the administrative changes and
the spread of nationalist revolts in the Balkans, the Arab subjects of the empire neither wanted, nor
anticipated, its collapse and replacement by a regional Arab state system. The doctrine of Arabism
surfaced before the war, but it was not so much a program for political independence so much as a
demand for Arab autonomy within an Ottoman framework. Thus, at the outbreak of the war,
Ottomanism remained the dominant ideology in the Arabic speaking provinces. And despite all the
attention that Sharif Husayn s revolt later received, they did not detach the majority of Arabs from
their Ottoman loyalties during the war years. But by the end of the war in 1918, Ottomanism was
irrelevant. The French occupation of Damascus and the creation of regional states, compelled the Arab
elites to focus their attention on developments in their own new states. Arabs that had been formerly
occupants of Ottoman provinces, now had to create new identities as Iraqis, Syrians, Palestinians, etc.
One element in the post Ottoman Middle East did remain constant, the individuals who rose to
political prominence in the new states were mainly those who had held positions of power and or

Analysis Of Alexis De Tocqueville s Life
It was Monday, October 27th, 2014; Alexis De Tocqueville was casually heading down to the local
election hall in Toronto for the municipal elections occurring that night. As he stepped in and stood in
line for his turn, he noticed two individuals ahead of him. At closer inspection, he was in awe to
realize these two gentlemen happened to be Adam Smith and Karl Marx, two great philosophers he
had always wanted to meet and converse with. Smith and Marx, realizing their admirer staring,
immediately recognized Tocqueville as well and at that moment, all three of their eyes lit in
excitement. After turning in their votes, the three agreed to go to a nearby restaurant for some nachos
because who does not like nachos after voting on a Monday night. Since they had just come from
voting for the elections, it was only appropriate the topic of their discussion should be something
related. De Tocqueville, taking the initiative when they had settled down, decided to throw a question
to Marx and Smith after they had finished snacking on perfectly dressed nachos and having a few
drinks. But before he could, Adam Smith declared he was too tired to go through what is about to
occur, so they decided to just leave him as he passes out on his seat. Looking at Marx, Tocqueville
asked, Well, now that we are here, and have just finished voting and eating, I would like to ask you

The Natural Resources Of Water Scarcity
The natural resources of today seem to have no end. Oil, Coal, and even Natural Gas storage units are
starting to see significant declines in their supply. And even though the world may be producing an
exponential amount of these resources, there are signs of depletion. Another one of those natural
resources is our fresh water. The world can sit back and continue to use fresh water without any
knowledge of reduction but it is imminent a solution is needed quickly. Not a solution to produce
more fresh water, but to distribute the fresh water more efficiently to more regions across the Globe. It
should be the worlds first priority to resolve water scarcity. There is not enough fresh water to live of
off much longer, so using it wisely, now, can better prepare us for implementing a drastic change to
how we gather fresh water in the future. The overall all picture is clear, fresh water is becoming scarce
because we are not using this natural resource wisely. The allocation of fresh water must have a better
implementation process. Fresh water only makes two and a half percent of the total volume of the
world s water, but considering 70% of that freshwater is in the form of ice and permanent snow cover
access to potable water is limited. It is not surprising that demand for water could soon surpass supply.
A report from the United Nations reads, We have 15 years to avert a full blown water crisis and that,
by 2030, demand for water will outstrip supply by 40 percent (Barlow,

Death Is Not Bad For Anyone
Death is not Bad for Anyone
Epicurus writes, the argument that death is nothing to us, because when we exist, death is not yet
present, and when death comes, we no longer exist. There are three reasonable previews to support his
view, including: something is bad for someone as long as it must be bad for that person at specific
time; Death cannot be bad for someone when they are dead because the person does not exist at that
time; Death cannot be bad for someone before death actually come. Among these three reasonable
previews, Epicurus draw his conclusion that because there is no time at which death is bad for
someone, so death is not bad for anyone. I m agree with that Death is not bad for anyone , because
death can t affect us since we are died. Although the objection is reasonable, I still think the Epicurus s
response is stronger. The objection is that death can be bad because it is a deprivation of the good
things in life. Our life is full of good things. We have time that we stay with our parents or hang out
with our friends; we have time that we do our hobby and go traveling to see the world; we have time
that we go shopping and eat delicious foods; though there are still sometimes bad things happens, it
emphasis happiness in our life and make our life colorful. However, if we died, we no longer have
time to enjoy it. All the happy moments, money, gorgeous house, people we loves, things we have

The Chinese spend $22 billion a year for buying homes all over the U.S., but California is really their
darling market.
Local California realtors would do just anything to catch their slice of the Chinese pie. Their
marketing strategy includes property videos and websites in Chinese at least. One San Francisco area
real estate agency takes the Chinese buyers around and to open houses by a Mercedes, and then to an
air flight to show them the beauty of the Bay shores by a plane with the number 88 on it the lucky
Chinese eight is even doubled.
A Chinese big real estate investment firm becomes one of the most aggressive property buyers in
California. Their acquisitions prove that Chinese investors are at the top of the list of foreign investors
in the commercial properties in the U.S.
U.S. properties are the most attractive to the fast growing Chinese firms under the condition that
Chinese domestic real estate market is slowing down. The Chinese investors paid $3.9 billion for the
U.S. commercial properties last year, approximately 1% of all American commercial property sales
and more than investors from any foreign country except Canada and Norway.
The San Francisco mayor s office set up an organization aiming to promote Chinese investments in the
area. There definitely is a strong interest for Chinese companies to invest overseas, said the executive

The Middle Passage Essay
The Middle Passage (or Trans Atlantic Slave Trade) was a voyage that took slaves from Africa to the
Americas via tightly packed ships. The trade started around the early 1500s, and by 1654 about 8,000
10,000 slaves were being imported from Africa to the Americas every year. This number continued to
grow, and by 1750 that figure had climbed to about 60,000 70,000 slaves a year. Because of the lack
of necessary documents, it is hard to tell the exact number of Africans taken from their homeland. But
based on available clues and data, an estimated 9 15 million were taken on the Middle Passage, and of
that about 3 5 million died. While the whole idea seems sick and wrong, many intelligent people and

tropical climate and immune to its diseases, had experience in agriculture, and there was already a

slaves were brought to Jamestown, Virginia. Most of the earlier slaves to journey the trans Atlantic

it was the middle leg in the Triangular trade. The Triangular trade was a trade system among Europe,
Africa, and the Americas. Europe made manufactured goods such as textiles, gun powder, firearms,
iron and copper bars, alcohol, cloth and brass kitchen ware. These were traded in Africa for slaves,
gold, and silver, which were transported to the Americas, where they were exchanged for tobacco,

For this report I have been asked to compare and contrast the principles of regulations of two care
professions. I have decided to choose Nursing and Social Work because I am currently training to be a
nurse and I would like to see the difference between Nursing and Social Work education, training and
codes of conduct as this is a field I don t know much about.
NMC Nursing Midwifery Council
Follows The Code: Standards of conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwives
SSSC Scottish Social Services Council
Follows Codes of Practice for Social Service Workers and Employers
SSSC has a code for both employers and workers. I am ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Continuing Professional Development
Both these professions expect the same high standards when it comes to education and training.
Nursing and Social Work both have requirements for continued professional development and lifelong
learning. It is essential that Nurses and Social workers keep a record of their training throughout their
careers.
To be able to remain working and practicing as a nurse or a midwife you must keep your skills and
knowledge up to date through lifelong learning. This requires that nurses complete 450 hours of
registered practice along with 35 hours of learning activities every three years along with the annual
fee of £100. Medicines, treatments and equipment are continuously changing so it s important that
nurses keep up to date to ensure that patients are getting the best available care. You must take part in
appropriate learning and practice activities that maintain and develop you competence and
performance (NMC, 2008 p6).
Social Worker s must undertake relevant training to maintain and improve your knowledge and skills
and contributing to the learning and development of others (SSSC, 2009 section 6.8). The requirement
of continued learning is fifteen days which can consist of courses, reading

Case Study Pg 204: Essentials of Critical Care Nursing
Mrs. K., A 68 year old white woman, has been admitted to the critical care unit with shortness of
breath at rest. Vital signs are BP, 218/100 mm Hg; HR, 110 beats/min; and RR, 3 breath/min. She has
run out of her antihypertensive medication for the fourth time this year and only came to the hospital
because of her breathing difficulties.
On examination, Mrs. K. is pale and clammy sitting upright in a chair. She has bibasilar crackles to
her scapulae, and her heart rhythm is irregularly irregular. She has pitting edema bilaterally to her
thighs, jugular venous pulsation to the earlobe, and bilateral infiltrates. An ECG shows a left
ventricular ejection fraction of 78% with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even with the limits of Amiodarone, it is often used as the first line drug of choice for A Fib and those
that are hemodynamically unstable. Amiodarone is a vasodilator and can increase cardiac output.
However, it will not significantly change the ejection fraction which is good since Mrs. K. s is 78%
(normal approximately 55 75%)
c. I did not see any treatments for her A Fib. There is no mention of thombolytics or anti coagulants.
This should also be considered for treatment.
2. Based on her presentation, physical assessment and hemodynamic number, was Mrs. K.
experiencing left or right sided failure, or both?
a. Both. Based on what is presented. She has JVD an indication of right sided failure because the heart
is unable to pump the massive amount of fluid coming from the body to the right side of the heart.
There is too much fluid for the right ventricle to pump into the pulmonary arteries. And because of the
A fib, it is not being pumped efficiently.
b. She is experiencing left sided failure as shown by the increased PAP and the bibasilar crackles heard
on auscultation. The fluid can t get into the left side of the heart and is backing up into the lungs. Left
sided failure is also indicated by the reduced cardiac index. The heart is not able to get the fluid out to
the body.
3. What role did atrial fibrillation play in Mrs. K. s heart failure?
a. This may have been answered in another question, but the atria s aren t pumping. In layman s

Obamacare History
UMMARY HISTORY:
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act., a health reform, known as the Obamacare was signed
into law by formal President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010.
Seven (7) year later is still going strong, and its estimated by 2018, the pre existing health condition
will be covered without the need to pay a co pay.
EXPLANATION:
What is the ACA, is healthcare in which is affordable for the consumer, patient, for families. This
program was designate to help all individuals to obtain a health policy for less, to improve their
quality of life by giving everyone the benefit needed and the protections regardless of previous health
medical history (MHI) any present conditions.

Cost curbing measures and reductions in health insurance costs for many Americans due to subsidies
help to insure tens of millions by expanding coverage options. This expansion could potentially result
in an overall net decrease of the deficit by driving health care costs down over time.
Obamacare was originally projected to cut the national deficit by over $200 billion during its first 10
years, and by over $1 trillion over the next two decades in March of 2012. Although estimates have
changed, the law s provisions continue to curb healthcare costs. This helps offset the current estimated
$1.207 trillion net cost of ObamaCare s insurance related provisions. (The gross cost of ObamaCare is
$1,707 billion, offset by a projected $500 billion in revenue for 2016 2025.)
The new lowered estimate of $1.207 trillion is, in part, due to a downward trend in spending by
private health insurers in health care and administration. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and
Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) estimate that growth in private health insurance spending per
enrollee over the 2006 2013 period averaged 1.8% per year, compared with an average rate of 5.0%
per year during the 1998 2005

Strength is In the Eye of the Beholder
In my quest to create a well rounded and A+ worthy essay about Shakespeare s As You Like It, I came
upon key elements of popular culture pertaining to feminism and the rhetoric used to describe it. Of
course, strong female character is a term thrown around plenty now days, however, I never took a
moment to contemplate what it meant. Unfortunately, my research dredged up a plethora of unsettling
ideas about what traits strong females posses, and has led me to think films should no longer portray
what is now classically called strong and instead produce more realistic female characters, thus
redefining a more positive representation of women. Without this awareness, young adults will
continue to believe that a strong woman falls into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She does not rely on super human ability or talent, but instead hard work and perseverance. She is
truly heroic, for courage is defined as the ability to do something that frightens one and through each
of the films she shows us the terror she is living in and her ability to overcome it.
This fictitious strong female is a symptom of a greater problem, one that has stemmed from former
cultures surrounded by the gender roles put in place by society. Rosalind from As You Like It, while
superficially powerful is also weakened by her choices. She recognizes her weakness as a woman
when she states, Beauty provoketh thieves sooner than gold, and decides to dress as a man as she
ventures into the world (Page 26). Although this is a different time it is still relevant as her only
strength comes from donning a costume of a man. In modern film, female characters classified as
strong are picking up traits considered more masculine and emulating men, although not physically.
To compensate for this loss of obvious gender roles in clothing, females have been given their
femininity back on only a cosmetic level, while increasing male ideals drastically proving to audiences
it just a character and they have no need to fear the loss of their well known ideas about men and
women. People find comfort in tradition, and Shakespeare provides closure by having Rosalind spend
the entire play working towards getting a man, and then returning

Essay on Dr. Mengele
The life story of Josef Mengele is one that is filled many twists and turns that play out like a suspense
story with an ending that does not seem to fit what one would expect. The authors of the book
Mengele: The Complete Story, Gerald L. Posner and John Ware, wrote this book largely with
information taken from diaries and letters of Mengele amp;#8217;s, and interviews with those who
knew him. It is a look into the life and times of a man whose nickname was amp;#8220;The Angel of
Death. ; Josef amp;#8217;s life and post mortem fate could be divided into three different chapters.
His pre war life and life during World War II was one of privilege and freedom to satisfy his perverse
desire to perform bizarre and mostly useless medical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this man who exhibited a sense of strength and fierceness to his victims was neither
physically or emotionally strong. He was very insecure about his physical appearance, and constantly
thought people were out to get him. He felt he had to belittle others accomplishments in order to make
himself feel more confident. Mengele especially hated gypsies, and viewed them as more of a
subspecies than other groups he killed. The following passage, which comes from Mengele
amp;#8217;s arrest warrant, which detailed his heinous crimes, illustrates his disregard for their lives:
amp;#8220;..On May 25th, 1943, Mengele sent 1035 gypsies suspected of typhus to the gas chamber,
and on May 25th and 26th he spared those Gypsies who were German while he sent approximately
600 others to be gassed. ;(p. 25 par.1)
What is ironic about this hatred is that Mengele himself was far from being considered physically
superior to anyone. In fact, amp;#8220;since childhood, he had been self conscious of his slightly
tawny skin, his penetrating brown green eyes, and his dark hair. At school he endured taunts from his
classmates about his Gypsy looks. ;(p. 25 par. 2) It could be seen that his contempt for Gypsies might
have arisen due to trauma he endured during childhood from others, as well as a self imposed trauma
he brought upon himself, due to his

Christine Jessop Case
The wrongful conviction of Guy Paul Morin in Canada for the murder of Christine Jessop in 1984 is
on record for legal history as evidence that prosecutions can mistake in any justice system. The
conviction of Guy Paul was based off of secondary evidence, contaminated evidence, unreliable
testimony and poor police work and it took advances in forensic science and DNA fingerprinting to
finally clear his name in 1995 (H2G2, 2013).The murderer of Christine Jessop has not yet been found

In this paper I will argue that torturing a person is never a best way to bring about a much greater good
except in extreme emergency situations. I will also argue that he degree of torture should vary in these
extreme emergency situations and the torturer should be able to justify why did he torture the person. I
will elaborate on torture and why I believe it is never the best way to bring about a greater good after a
very brief description of what torture is and under what circumstances people ought to be tortured.
Torture is basically inflecting unbearable pain in a person in order to break his/her will to obtain
certain information. Most commonly torture is used on people who are considered as a threat to the
nation or simply who defy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe torture is only morally permissible in extreme emergency situations. By extreme emergency
situations I mean when there is a risk that hundreds of people will be killed if the victim does not
provide certain information. In the ticking time bomb case, interrogators have tried all the acceptable
methods to get the code to disarm the bomb and have failed to do so and hence it is morally
permissible to torture the person to get the code otherwise we will be putting the lives of millions of
people at risks. Also, some cases where torture would be morally permissible are where the torturer is
hundred percent sure that the victim is the perpetrator and has significant information to bring about
greater good. This victim can be a kidnapper, a bomber, a terrorist or even a secret service agent who
is selling confidential information. I also believe that while torturing someone the degree of torture
should not be too high and it should be in the knowledge of highest law authority. A medical
practitioner should also be present while torturing a victim so that there should be no risk to the life of
the perpetrator. As Henry Shue said that An act of torture ought to remain illegal and anyone has to
justify in order defending himself/herself legally (Shue). I strongly believe that under any
circumstance torture should not be legalized whether it is for

Conscious Mind
composed of three elements together with the Conscious mind itself. These three elements of the
subconscious are known as the Id, the Ego and the Superego, all developing at different stages of our
life and all working together with the Conscious mind to create complex human behaviours. The
Superego plays the critical moralizing role. The Ego is the organised, realistic part, mediating between
the desires of the Id and the Superego. The Superego can stop a person from doing certain things that
the Id may want to do. All three elements interact in ways that have a powerful influence on each
individual contributing to each persons own unique personality. The Id is governed by the pleasure

According to Freud, the Ego ensures that the impulses of the Id can be expressed in an acceptable
manner it is the reality check, striving to satisfy desires of the Id in socially realistic and appropriate
ways. For example, if stuck in a very long meeting, a feeling of increasing hunger may tempt you to
rush out of the room to find something to eat! The Ego realistically encourages you to wait, maybe
imagining what you will eat once the meeting is over when you can satisfy the demands of the Id in an
appropriate and realistic manner. Freud compared the Id to a horse with the Ego as the rider. The horse
provides motion and power, the rider provides guidance and direction. The Superego is the morality
principle. It holds all of our internalized ideals and moral standards that we acquire from parents,
authority figures and society. It is our sense of right and wrong, providing guidelines for making
judgements. Freud states that the Superego begins to emerge at around the age of three. The Superego
acts to suppress any unacceptable urges of the Id and struggles to make the Ego act upon idealistic
standards rather than upon unrealistic principles. These three aspects of the personality the Id, the Ego
and the Superego do not operate independently. They are unconscious forces operating under the
surface of the thinking and logical Conscious, always interacting within a person thus influencing their
overall behaviour and

Mabel Dodge Speech Good Evening my fellow neighbors. Most of you know me and for the ones
who do not, I am Mabel Dodge. I am the daughter from a family in Buffalo and had what was
considered the best education for girls in the nineteenth century. Instead of going to college, I got
married, became a mother and soon, a widow. Later, I traveled abroad and soon married a Boston
architect, Edwin Dodge who I later realized the passion I had was no more so I divorced him. I
became bored and began to crave art, the beauty and inspiration! A salon in Florence, Italy that I
created for the purpose of attracting the most up and coming artists in Europe, had me become well
known and even a muse for one of Gertrude Stein s image poems. I reluctantly joined Edwin my
husband at the time, who was eager to come back to the United States. I settled in an apartment on the
lower Fifth Avenue which most of you have been in for my evenings of controversial debates. What
will women do with their new freedom? Not turn evil as many of you would think. Women could
create lives for themselves, become economically independent and independent throughout. There are
opportunities for women outside of the home. There is a whole other life outside the house. Yes, some
women will have to learn to govern themselves but that is only because they were never given the
chance to in their lives before. I quote Walter Lippmann in, A Note On

The Odyssey By Homer Is Considered The First And Greatest...
One man said, All men are created equal ; however, men treat women differently in today s culture.
Society categorizes them as less intelligent, not capable of working in job fields such as construction,
and generally less important than men. Because of these ideas, women do not have the same
advantages as men. The importance is the effect it has on the progression of the future. Today, women
have overcome most stereotypes, but there are still plenty remaining. Most stereotypes originate from
ancient times, for example this theme is seen in the Odyssey, written by Homer, who is considered the
first and greatest epic poet. Women face persecution daily through the media and society, yet the way
society thinks towards them is changing.
In the Odyssey, there is a demeaning description of women. The thought of how evil and useless
women are shows up in all female characters. The main theory is women are possessions or prizes to
be won. They are shown as malevolent, sinister beings with terrible intentions. Starting with Calypso,
Homer describes her as evil and unfair. Calypso takes Odysseus captive and makes him become her
boyfriend (Homer 485). There is no mention of Odysseus wanting to stay; therefore, it makes Calypso
sound worse than she probably is. The reader infers how mean Calypso is when she says, Oh you vile
gods, in jealousy supernal!/ You hate it when we choose to lie with men / immortal flesh by some dear
mortal side [...] Surely I cannot send him,/ I have no

Into The Wild Sacrifice Analysis

Honors American Literature
26 September 2016 Sacrifice as a Value Trade off Between Society and Individual
In any conception of the human condition, sacrifice inevitably accompanies the choices that life
presents. Yet, the definition of sacrifice is ambiguous and relies on individual interpretation: it can be
willingly trading lesser possessions for more desirable goals or forcibly relinquishing values. Despite
the distinct social contexts and time periods, Jon Krakauer s Into the Wild and Kate Chopin s The
Awakening reflect similar notions of sacrifice through their protagonists, Chris McCandless and Edna
Pontellier respectively. Chris McCandless and Edna Pontellier perceive sacrifice as a trade off
between values, where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edna becomes increasingly dissatisfied as a mother woman once she realizes that sacrifice means
choosing between an outward existence which conforms and an inward life which questions (13).
After the summer at Grand Isle, Edna begins to pursue her own interests, relieving herself of
obligations because she no longer feels content to feed upon opinion when her own soul had invited
her (94). Edna s awakening is directly caused by her perception of sacrifice. Realizing that fulfilling
social roles necessitates giving up her autonomy, Edna fights against the sacrifice that her culture
expects from women. She moves out into a pigeon house and refuses to entertain guests on reception
day, small actions which resist the social pressures threatening her personal identity. Edna consciously
destroys the facade of a traditional life for her genuine desires, noting that it is better to wake up after
all, even to suffer, rather than to remain a dupe to illusions (112). Self discovery is worth life s
delirium to Edna; the possible social repercussions and stigma are painful but necessary sacrifices.
Edna dismantles the false life she leads, and with it social benefits and status, believing that the the
suffering is preferable to sacrificing and repressing her true self. Her understanding of sacrifice as

Tragedy Commons
Econ145 assignment 1, Minyeong Kim(A91424682), Professor Squires
In the first reading which is called Tragedy of the Commons, written by Garrett Harden, the author
Harden talks about the problems of the public goods and some solutions as well. The author basically
insists that there are no technical solutions for the problems caused by overpopulation. He also gives
some examples of the tragedy of the commons and the reasons why these problems cannot be
overcome. He mentioned about the appearance of the atomic resources which is considered as an
infinite resource, and he says that people usually tend to consider this infinite resources as a solution
of the problem of overpopulation. However, the author claims that the infinite resources is ... Show

First of all, he explains that the difference between public goods and common pool resources. For
example, we can say that groundwater, grazing and trees are common pool resources. If a person uses
resource at once and gets benefits from it, the value of the resource becomes lower to the another
person. On the other hand, using of the public goods does not make lower the value of the resources
whoever uses it. He gives an unusual observations regarding Indian Village which has no clearly
defined social domain or institution separate from state authority. The author observed total of forty
one villages, and he found out that people in all of the villages share the goods and services very
effectively and evenly based on common property rights. The reason why this village could use
resources properly is that there are four main institutions; a village council, village standing fund,
village guards, and common irrigators; which have their own common property rights. These
institutions also have their own rights to do such as council organize the supply of the public goods, or
village guards protect crops from livestock etc. Also, all the services in this village except water
distribution are financed from the village standing fund. As a result, since these institutions have their
own common property rights, they cannot help but have responsibility to protect village properly.
Also, this well made common property rights of the village could protect total tragedy of the commons
as a result. Furthermore, the author gives another example about grazing in a village. For example, as
he mentions above, every single rational herdsman prefers to keep as many cattle as they can to make
higher benefits. To keep as many cattle as they can, they have to protect them by hiring

Electronic Medical Records Systems Essay
Electronic Medical Records systems lie at the center of any computerized health information system,
without them other modern technologies, such as decision support systems cannot be effectively
integrated into routine clinical workflow. The paperless, inter operable, multi provider, multi specialty,
multi discipline computer medical record, which has been a goal for many researchers, healthcare
professionals, administrators, and politicians for the past 20+ years is however about to become a
reality in many western countries. The Obama administration has proposed, as part of the effort to

Getting access to them takes a lot of time and effort. Time and money spent on phone calls, faxes,
emails obtaining these records from other places can be saved. Sometimes, medical tests have already
been done over again, incurring unnecessary costs to the patient and the healthcare system.
2) EMRs keep records safe. Paper records can be easily lost. Fires, floods and other natural disasters
have destroyed medical records for many years, data which is lost forever. Digital records can be
stored virtually forever and can be kept long after the physical records are gone.
3) EMRs facilitate coordination between health care professionals. Coordination between primary care
providers and care of patients has always been problematic. Paper charting leaves room for deficits in
medical information exchange. The reports from hospitals generally do not get to primary providers
and results in decreased quality of care after hospitalization.
4) EMRs can save lives. EMRs can save lives in unusual circumstances. EMRs can be used for disease
surveillance during epidemics and bioterrorism.
5) Using reminders, prompts, and alerts from computerized decision support systems would help
improve compliance with the best clinical practices, ensure regular screenings, and other preventive
practices, identify possible drug interactions and facilitate diagnoses and treatments.
6) Computerized administrative tools, such as

Design and Funciton of Treatment Systems
Conventional Sewage Treatment.
Conventional Sewage Treatment plants are the most common system for wastewater treatment in the
United States. These systems are found in all urban communities but only in a few rural communities.
This complex system is responsible for processing of the waste of the majority of the people in the
United States yet few of them understand the scientific principles involved with treatment. In addition
many people are even unaware of where their wastewater goes after it has been flushed down the toilet
or disappear through the bath tub drain. I will attempt to describe the biological, chemical and
physical process involved with the treatment of wastewater through the use of conventional sewage
treatment.
The first step involved with wastewater treatment is the transport of the wastes from houses and
industry to the treatment plant. This is done through a complex matrix of pipes and lift stations. All
sewage goes to the treatment plant using the laws of gravity. Since the flow of gravity requires the
sewage to head continually

Comparing Beowulf And Grendel s Mother
In the poem Beowulf tracks Grendel s Mother down in a lake and commences fighting her in armor
and with the sword he received from Unferth. During the fight Beowulf s sword breaks, and Grendal s
Mother tries to stab him, but Beowulf s armor protects him from it. He then finds a giants sword, and
uses said sword to stab into the hideous creature s neck and kill her. In the movie he tracks Grendel s
Mother without any sort of armor. He finally finds her, and instead of a hideous beast like in the poem,
he finds a beautiful woman who just happens to look like this. Instead of killing her he does the exact
opposite and has sexual intercourse with her. Another example is In the movie, Beowulf comes back
to Heorot and claims to have eradicated Grendal s Mother. After feasting and drinking in ... Show

After the talk the king tells his court Beowulf shall be the ruler of his kingdom, and the king then
commits suicide by falling off a cliff. But In the poem Beowulf returns to his native home land after
vanquishing Grendel s Mother and Grendel, and he ascends to the thrown of his home by being a
devout and studious subject to King Hygelac till he and his son pass away.
One major difference is in the poem a thief disturbs a dragon by taking some of it s treasure. This
angers the dragon, and it decides to destroy the near by kingdom. Beowulf receives news of said
dragon attacks, so confronts the dragon terrorizing his kingdom. He fights the dragon valiantly, but is
unable to beat it until Wiglaf helps. They kill the dragon, but Beowulf receives deadly injures that

Obtain a wireless residential gateway from your instructor, or you can utilize your own. If the
contrivance has external antennas, ascertain they are situated vertically; and if they utilize a screw in
connector, ascertain the antennas are finger tight and do not fall to the horizontal position again. Never
turn on a wireless contrivance equipped with external antennas without first having them connected
and tightened up. The absence of a felicitous load at the output of the transmitter can damage the
circuit. In integration, despite the very low power levels of most WLAN contrivances, you are
exhorted to never touch the antennas when the contrivance is turned on as this may represent a health
peril. Connect an RJ 45 Ethernet crossover patch cable to one of the switch ports in the back of the
contrivance. Note that one port is disunited from the others and is customarily marked WAN. Do not

Court System Should Use Mediation As An Alternative...
Why the court system should use Mediation as an Alternative Dispute Resolution
Civil lawsuits can happen at any moment out of disputes between business partners, family members,
neighbors and government individuals and it must be followed by certain steps. for example,
pleadings, discovery, trial, and possible appeals. This is how alternate dispute resolutions were
developed. Alternate Dispute Resolutions were developed in response to the expense and difficulty of
bringing a lawsuit. Some examples of resolutions are; mediation, arbitration, negotiation, mini trial,
fact finding and using a judicial referee (pg 59). Even though arbitration is the most common form of
resolution, I believe mediation is the best way to reach a settlement for both parties while saving them
time and money. This is of course depending on the case. Three reasons why I believe mediation is a
good form of resolution are First, because the plaintiff has more freedom to take certain actions before
taking their case to trial. Second, because it would end up being less costly. Lastly, because the
plaintiff can gather all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe the plaintiff has more freedom to take certain actions before taking their case to trial, as
opposed to arbitration, where a third party decides the dispute and the arbitration agreement often
describes a specific procedure that must be followed for a case to proceed through an arbitration (pg
59 60) . For example, a lot of cases are family related problems where there are emotions involved. It
can simply be that both parties are misunderstanding each other or don t know how to deal with a
certain situation. A mediator helps both parties see the other s side of the problem making it easier in a
more relaxed environment, to come up with a settlement, then to take it to

Learning Journal Entry
Your learning journal entry must be a reflective statement that considers the following questions:
1. Describe what you did. This does not mean that you copy and paste from what you have posted or
the assignments you have prepared. You need to describe what you did and how you did it.
Before I write anything in the discussion forums or an assignment, I generally complete all of my
readings and notes. For my notes I use mostly the Cornell Method of note taking, and all of my notes
for each week are contained within individual weekly documents files, explicitly dated and titled.
When taking notes I generally read a paragraph or two and then try to shorten down the key points.
Most typical notes are taken on a computer, however, like in the case ... Show more content on

My skepticism is also returning a bit more, and I find myself not accepting information unless there is
reason to (i.e. sourced, well established,... ). Additionally, I think that I am more motivated in the
recent months to work more at my hobbies that I have been neglecting.
4. What am I realizing about myself as a learner? That I really enjoy working hard, and learning. I had
thought that I had started to lose some of my interest in learning over the last few years, fortunately
though, this is not the case. Also, I used to not really enjoy writing essays, however, I am actually
enjoying the process a lot now.
5. In what ways am I able to apply the ideas and concepts gained to my own experience?
One of the most important aspects of a programming is their ability to solve problems. I hope that I
continue to take this concept to heart in the years to come. If I continue to enjoy the process of
problem solving and by extension critical thinking then I believe that my life will become very simple,
and instead of having a bunch of unsolvable issues, I could have easily solvable

Advantages Of Eclectic Approach
Introduction
World is developing more and more each passing day. Because of this development people throughout
the world get in touch with each other more frequently than ever. And each passing day the
importance of foreign language is becoming more obvious, especially English which is almost
international language. The most important influence for learning English as a second language is
done by teachers. And everyone who decided to become a teacher at least once asked himself What
kind of teacher I will be like? Answer for this question depends on 3 main factors: your personality,
philosophy and methodology. Personality and philosophy is individual for everyone, but methodology
is something that can be used by everyone, this is a element ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The idea of choosing from different methods to suite for ones teaching purposes and situations is new
one. For example, Memorandum on the Teaching of Modern Language published in 1929 on the basis
of British study by Incorporated Association of Assistant Masters in Secondary Schools recommended
the eclectic Compromise Method as a solution to the language teaching method debate.
Description of Eclectic Approach
There is no single method which can guarantee success in teaching. And the Eclectic Approach is not
an exception. The Eclectic Approach is focused on combination of some advantages from several
methods taken for learning and teaching process. This approach is commendable when circumstances
do not allow for the adoption of the single method. The use of methods and approaches is adjust to the
teaching learning needs. The teacher decides what methodology or approach to use depending on the
aims of the lesson and the learners in the group.

Sexual Assault In The Hunting Ground
Imagine this, you just moved into your dorm at your first choice of school ready to start the next four
years of college, only to get taken advantage of sexually by an upperclassman at your first college
party. This is just one of the many scenarios the documentary The Hunting Ground tells and happens
to sixteen percent of women who start their college careers. The film tells the inspirational story of
Andrea Pino and Annie Clark, two UNC Chapel Hill graduates, and their continuous journey to end
sexual assaults on college campuses and to motivate schools to stand up for their students. While
sexual assault has unfortunately always been a part of the college experience, the epidemic has
reached a breaking point in recent years, and the documentary ... Show more content on

activities, like the carrying of mattresses across campuses, and have been pressured to talk more about
the safety of their institution. Sexual assaults are some of the most traumatic things that can happen to
anyone at any age, and after seeing this movie I hope that there is working going on to fix a issue that

In this assignment we introduce the idea that the organizational culture is the personality of an
organization which can be defined, measured, sustained and changed and have an important impact on
an organization s effectiveness.
We want to define organizational culture as it is presented by two theorists, indicate levels of
expressions of culture in an organization, and provide specific strategies or tools to modify
organizational culture.
We know that every individual has something that psychologists have termed personality . An
individual s personality is made up of a set of relatively permanent and stable traits. When we describe
someone as innovative, relaxed, warm or conservative, we are describing personality traits. An ...

We believe that the internal and external problems are closely interconnected and organizations must
deal with them simultaneously.
In conclusion, Schein (1992) defines the organizational culture as shared assumptions and beliefs
about the world and their place in it, the nature of time and space, human nature, and human
relationships. Organizational culture have distinct dimensions that can be defined and measured. This
is important to know in order to develop and use change strategies of the culture.
Ott s definition of the organizational cultureOn the other hand Ott (1989), in The Organizational
Culture Perspective describe organizational culture as a social constructed, unseen, and unobservable
force behind organizational activities. Organizational culture is a social energy that moves
organizational members to act and unifying theme that provides meaning and direction to and
mobilizes the members. It functions as an organizational control mechanism, informally approving or
prohibiting behaviors (Lawson and Shen, 1998).
In short, organizational culture is a hypothetical construct that must be inferred from the share
thoughts, feelings, values, and actions of organizational members.
Last, Ott suggested that organizational culture is a concept, construct, energy, idea, rather

My Writing Style
Everyone has their own approach to writing, but there are always ways to learn new methods to
improve their writing style. Personally, I have experimented with different approaches to improve my
writing every year. However, I have realized that I still have a lot of room for improvement and
exploration. After reading Foley, Murray, Lamott, Elbow, and Flower, I gained a better understanding
in how to improve my writing and identifying the mistakes and styles I have adopted in my writing
that are not as effective. Thus, these articles have explained many strategies and styles such as the five
paragraph essay, steps to having a good writing process, and the way of revising a piece of work until
it seems like the best product. In short, revising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Organization when writing is vital to a successful and efficient paper. In order to have a successful
piece of writing, it is important to include the following steps that includes knowing who you are
writing to, what you are writing about, and what are you trying to share. As well, analyzing your
audience is important because it influences the way you would present your writing based on i.e. a
certain age, race and background in general. Having knowledge about the topic and expected audience
allows you to expand to avoid a vague explanation. Murray said, Effective writers are simply
expressing what they know, like a student filling up an examination bluebook. This statement is
accurate because people have their own personal styles and perspective that are effective in their own
way. Everyone has a different style of writing. For example, some individuals learn without guidelines

A Specific Moment In My Life That Has Drastically Impacted...
If I had to pin point a specific moment in my life that has drastically impacted my academic career it
would be the summer class I took last year at my community college. We were all in class talking
about career planning and what majors we were going to choose once we finished the course and my
professor brought up a very good point. She was asking us all what we wanted to do and most of us
didn t have a solid answer so she looked around the room and asked, when you guys were kids what
did you want to be when you grew up? The first thing I thought of was that I wanted to be a singer.
That however would never work out because I cannot sing to save my life. Other students were saying
things like doctors, lawyers, and other big jobs like that.

How Does Piggy Build Order In Lord Of The Flies
Have you ever considered what would happen without anyone present to maintain order? Throughout
William Golding s The Lord of the Flies , Piggy is portrayed as the responsible one on the island and
helps develop a theme of order versus chaos through his organization on the island, the bullying he
faces and his death. Piggy s attempt to organize on the island helps develop a theme of order versus
chaos because having an organized society helps build order, and Piggy attempted to re create that. An
example is where it describes Piggy when Ralph first blows the conch: Piggy moved among the
crowd, asking names and frowning to remember them. (14). The fact that asking people their names is
the first job that Piggy does shows that he wants to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He made the conch a symbol of order. The conch brings the boys together for meetings where they can
talk and have order. Piggy also makes it so you cannot speak unless you have the conch. Piggy and the
conch become very close, as if Piggy feels it as the only thing that has order, from being humiliated by
all the other boys. An example of this is after all the boys run up the mountain to make a fire: Like
kids! he said scornfully, Acting like a crowd of kids! Ralph looked at him doubtfully and laid the
conch on a tree trunk... What do they think they re going to do on that mountain? He caressed the shell
respectively, then stopped and looked up. Ralph! Hey! Where are you going? (37). This shows that the
conch is a symbol of order because Ralph puts it down once order is lost and chaos begins when all
the boys run up the mountain, but Piggy picks it up and starts caressing it, mourning the loss of order.
Finally, he stops caressing it when Ralph decides to join the chaos and runs up the mountain after the
other boys. Piggy is killed when Roger pushes a rock on Piggy which shatters the conch and sends
Piggy flying out to sea to his death: The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the
conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. (200). This shows that with the
death of Piggy, the conch, a symbol of order on the island, also dies. Note how Golding describes it as
ceased to exist . It shows that order ceased to exist with the death of the conch and Piggy, the only two
things on the island that build or represent order, and how chaos ensues after they are gone. That is
why Piggy s death on the island helps develop a theme of order versus

The Controversy Of The Painting The Zuloaga Affair
and they rejected the painting created by Zuloaga. He resented this so much that he went against
Madrid s cultural establishment and even went as far as telling everyone he came into contact with
that he was adopting another nationality. During the next three decades he rejected every offer to show
his work in the Spanish Pavilion and declined all honors and academy memberships that were offered
to him. Some time after that incident, an eruption of another issue arose concerning a cross breed
between a artistic, journalistic and political controversy known as The Zuloaga Affair . The main
reason behind the controversy was the Basque s powerful presentation in ancient Spain that was
slowly deteriorating as a result of the people of the rural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Equestrian Portrait of Maria del Rosario Cayetanna Fitz James Stuary y de Silva, Eighteenth
Duchess of Alba, Zuloaga was trying to convey and capture her innocence. The little figures in the
foreground that is often a staple in Zuloaga s latest portraits. The dogs are important and may be real
figures in her life. Shearer West says dogs are fidelity Fidelity is commonly described as being among
a martial status and being faithful and depicts the strong bond of the couple s relationship. The
dachshund is in a 1918 painting Ingancio did of her father, Jacobo Fitz James Stuart, the seventeenth
Duke of Alba as well as in the portrait of the equestrian portrait of Cayetanna, the Eighteenth Duchess
of Alba. While I have not found any research on this subject, I believe this particular dog passed by
the time the portrait of the Duchess was made but as a way to show fidelity, showing a family bond
between the father and daughter. Also, there is a another dog which looks like a puppy with a bow
around its neck. This could be the new family dog and a symbol of ever growing bond between the
Alba family. Zuloaga s most important message about the sitter was to convey and capture Cayetanna
s innocence. One of the figures to the left of her and the horse is Mickey Mouse who was a creature of
mythic stature should be shrouded in legend. While I believe Cayetanna asked for Mickey Mouse to

  • 3. My Position From A Kantian Perspective Essay The Categorical Debate George told Martha where a large sum of money he had accumulated was stored. He asked her to see that the money was given to the Society for Protection against Alien Control of the Earth (SPACE). Now that he has died, she is considering using the money to support the activities of the local Hunger Task Force, an organization that provides donated food to those who need it. What should Martha do? My position from a Kantian perspective is that Martha should give the money to the Society for Protection against Alien Control of the Earth (SPACE) because of the agreement Martha made with George before he died. I shall present arguments to support my position from a Kantian perspective by setting the precedence demonstrated by Kant as is evidence in duty and moral obligation. I will also present arguments to refute the utilitarian position that Martha should use the money to support the activities of the local Hunger Task Force, an organization that provides donated food to those who need it. As well as the arguments present by Kants catergorical imperative. Kant ascribes Duty means that we should never act in any way that we wouldn t want the principle we act on to be a universal law. • 4. The Impact Of Political Machine On The City Summer Eldred Evans April 16, 2016 U.S. Urban History Essay: Urban America Discuss the political machine and its operations in the city, 1865 1939 The political machine is very powerful in the city and because of how powerful it is that urban United States was able to develop so much and increase in power in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. A political machine is system of political organization based on patronage, the spoils system, and political ties. Sometimes political machines have a boss and sometimes they may not have a boss, and always have a corps of workers who depend on the patronage given by government contracts and jobs. Machine politics has existed in many United States cities for a long time now, but are still in effect in some areas. The rapid growth of American cities in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s created huge problems for the government that ran the cities as in most cases in was very poorly structured and could not really give the people what they needed. It is because of the inability of city government to provide these things to the people that there was a rise in political machines. These political machines gained support from the population by providing houses for people who needed them and by also offering people jobs that they desperately needed. This gave the political machines a lot of power and support from there loyal followers. Voters are often rewarded with patronage jobs. However, patronage can result in poorer service to the ... • 5. Piaget vs. Vygotsky The theory of cognitive development is defined as the development of the ability to think and reason. There are many theorists who have studied cognitive theories and the most famous is Jean Piaget. Cognitive development covers the physical and emotional stages of a child. The basic premise for cognitive development is to show the different stages of the development of a child so you can understand where the child might be in their development. The second aspect of his cognitive development is the Zone of Proximal Development. Vygotsky s idea of a zone of proximal development is the second aspect of his cognitive theory. The zone of proximal development contains things that children may not be able to do alone at the time, but are on the verge of achieving with some assistance. He believes that learning takes place during the Zone of Proximal Development. Vygotsky felt it was important to work within the zone proximal development to achieve maximum learning. Another aspect is Scaffolding, which means providing a child with a great deal of support during the early stages of development. Scaffolding involves the final piece of Vygotsky s cognitive development theory. Teachers will be applying both Piaget s and Vugptsky s theories on cognitive development. When it comes to Piaget s theory a kindergarten teacher would focus more on how the children are developing and not how the final outcome will be. If the children are given a finger painting assignment you will want to see how they handle paints and what they are doing. With reformed beliefs and ideals, the Puritans came to the New World forming new behaviors and strengthening unity among believers in God and worship. Causing controversial conflict and laying persecutions of their own, the Puritans will subse quently transform early America by laying the foundation for political, social and religious plat forms. During the 16th century, King Henry VIII would come to find himself in a bit of a pre dicament. His first wife, Catherine failed to produce a son which was unacceptable since there was such precedence in having a male heir as a successor to the throne. King Henry s answer to this would be a divorce. However, this was strictly forbidden under the laws of the Catholic Church so King Henry would start a reformation leading to the Church of England. Most of the beliefs and religious structure will stay the same apart from divorce. These shifts in religious re form would bring about many who disagreed with the fundamental beliefs of the Church of Eng land and they would come to be known as the Puritans. The Puritans were of Protestant faith and found the reformed Church of England to be still too true to the Catholic Church. • 7. Theoretical Cause Of Crime A thorough understanding of the many theories of criminology is the grounding of knowledge to any criminal justice practitioner or policy maker. Policy makers can utilize the theoretical understanding to design policies that not only address remedies to the current crime problem, but also find the underlying cause of crime to further deter it. Criminal justice practitioners can use criminological theories to address the cause of crime and offer a rehabilitative fix, rather than simply incarcerate offenders. Four theoretical aspects that any criminal theory must incorporate to be a true theory of crime are correlation, theoretical rationale, time sequence, and an absence of spuriousness (Akers Sellers, 2013). Correlation must do with how the theoretical cause of crime leads to the commission of crime. Theoretical rationale explains why the theoretical origin of crime causes the crime. The time sequence must show that the theoretical cause of crime always precedes the crime. The final aspect, the absence of spuriousness, rules out other causes for the crime as the real explanation of crime. (Akers Sellers, 2013). A major challenge that faces the criminal justice field today are youth gangs. Strain Theory is perhaps the best theoretical explanation of juvenile gang criminal activity. Agnew clarified strain as the relationships in which others are not treating the individual as he or she would like to be treated. (Tibbetts, 2015). Though this is the original definition, ... The government had to act fast to minimize job losses, stabilize the housing and credit markets, and get consumers back to work and spending money. The fiscal stimulus programs were effective in doing just that by lowering unemployment and stabilizing the stock market. There are a few things, however, that are intriguing. Based on what we have learned in our economic theory of stimulating aggregate demand through fiscal stimulus, the side effect is typically inflation (Schiller, 2013). The United States has not seen inflation like what the economists predicted with the latest inflation rate at 0.2% (Coin News Media Group, 2015). Despite all of the billions of dollars pumped into the economy, the Fed has been unable to sustain the desired 2 percent inflation rate, which they believe is indicative of economic growth (Mason, 2015). And, while the job market appears to be healthy with unemployment hovering around 5.1%, 27.7 percent of the unemployed, or 2.2 million, have been jobless for 27 weeks or more (Ferreira, 2015). Those who are employed part time because they aren t able to find full time employment and those who have given up looking for employment, even after their unemployment benefits have expired, aren t counted in the unemployment numbers (Ferreira, 2015). Personal Identity by Derek Parfit In his 1971 paper Personal Identity , Derek Parfit posits that it is possible and indeed desirable to free important questions from presuppositions about personal identity without losing all that matters. In working out how to do so, Parfit comes to the conclusion that the question about identity has no importance (Parfit, 1971, p. 4.2:3). In this essay, I will attempt to show that Parfit s thesis is a valid one, with positive implications for human behaviour. The first section of the essay will examine the thesis in further detail and the second will assess how Parfit s claims fare in the face of criticism. Therefore, for cases in which we are unable to speak of identity (because the psychological continuity relation is not one one), psychological continuity will be just as important as identity. The problem with psychological continuity, however, is that many of the relations involved (including memory relations) appear to presuppose identity. Parfit attempts to avoid this charge of circularity by using the concept of q memory. Q memories do not presume that the person having the q memory and the person who actually had the experience are the same person, unlike ordinary memories which do presuppose identity. Parfit applies this same redesription to other relations of psychological continuity such as intention and responsibility. Parfit returns to the idea of the importance of the psychological continuity relation in survival to introduce an even more important relation psychological connectedness . Psychological connectedness is a kind of direct psychological continuity. It is not transitive as it requires the holding of direct psychological relations (Parfit, 1971, p. 4.2:13). This contrasts with psychological continuity which is transitive because it only requires overlapping chains of direct psychological relations (Parfit, 1971, p.4.2:13). • 11. The Structural Health Monitoring Systems Abstract Structural health monitoring systems frequently use optimisation algorithms to update or identify system parameters in structural dynamics. In this study, an implementation of similar updating techniques is developed for thermal non destructive material inspection using adaptive response surfaces to approximate experimental parameters (thermal conductivity, convective heat transfer excitation timing) for updating a finite element model. The use of thermal models results in high non linearities in parameter influences and parameter updating accuracies, which are discussed. In this work, adaptive response surface methods are compared using interpolation, piecewise spline and polynomial regression functions. In this paper, the most widely used optimisation routines for structural dynamics are compared and validated on a thermal case with multiple independent parameters. The influence of the choice of optimisation parameters is discussed and compared between the different optimisation routines. Finally, a well suited data reduction technique is investigated which transforms the data set to a smaller, focused response model in each optimisation loop and delivers a proper regression accuracy. It is demonstrated that the use of interpolating regression delivers more accurate parameter estimations in contrast to structural dynamic updating where polynomial regression delivers superior results. 1 Introduction Computer simulation is an economic and fast way to determine ... Popper believes science should progress through falsification and demarcation as a way to distinguish real scientific theories from pseudoscience. (A. (A. Popper) believes Science keeps moving forward and the only way to progress is to prove existing theories wrong, replacing them with new theories. So no one really knows what this is about as much as Mairs and all disabled people who form a minority do. This tells us that the author knows what she s talking about. Since this essay is addressed to people who don t know much about disability, its purpose is not merely to inform us about the physical disability itself but also about the psychological effects of the constant isolation and exclusion of people with disabilities. In its final century the Ottoman system underwent considerable transformation. The reform movement strengthened the administrative efficiency and the military capability of the empire, but at the same time the reforms were bound to undermine the foundations on which the Ottoman order rested. Despite the administrative changes and the spread of nationalist revolts in the Balkans, the Arab subjects of the empire neither wanted, nor anticipated, its collapse and replacement by a regional Arab state system. The doctrine of Arabism surfaced before the war, but it was not so much a program for political independence so much as a demand for Arab autonomy within an Ottoman framework. Thus, at the outbreak of the war, Ottomanism remained the dominant ideology in the Arabic speaking provinces. And despite all the attention that Sharif Husayn s revolt later received, they did not detach the majority of Arabs from their Ottoman loyalties during the war years. But by the end of the war in 1918, Ottomanism was irrelevant. The world can sit back and continue to use fresh water without any knowledge of reduction but it is imminent a solution is needed quickly. Not a solution to produce more fresh water, but to distribute the fresh water more efficiently to more regions across the Globe. It should be the worlds first priority to resolve water scarcity. Cost curbing measures and reductions in health insurance costs for many Americans due to subsidies help to insure tens of millions by expanding coverage options. This expansion could potentially result in an overall net decrease of the deficit by driving health care costs down over time. Obamacare was originally projected to cut the national deficit by over $200 billion during its first 10 years, and by over $1 trillion over the next two decades in March of 2012. Although estimates have changed, the law s provisions continue to curb healthcare costs. This helps offset the current estimated $1.207 trillion net cost of ObamaCare s insurance related provisions. (The gross cost of ObamaCare is $1,707 billion, offset by a projected $500 billion in revenue for 2016 2025.) The new lowered estimate of $1.207 trillion is, in part, due to a downward trend in spending by private health insurers in health care and administration. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) estimate that growth in private health insurance spending per enrollee over the 2006 2013 period averaged 1.8% per year, compared with an average rate of 5.0% per year during the 1998 2005 ... Of course, strong female character is a term thrown around plenty now days, however, I never took a moment to contemplate what it meant. Unfortunately, my research dredged up a plethora of unsettling ideas about what traits strong females posses, and has led me to think films should no longer portray what is now classically called strong and instead produce more realistic female characters, thus redefining a more positive representation of women. She is truly heroic, for courage is defined as the ability to do something that frightens one and through each of the films she shows us the terror she is living in and her ability to overcome it. This fictitious strong female is a symptom of a greater problem, one that has stemmed from former cultures surrounded by the gender roles put in place by society. Rosalind from As You Like It, while superficially powerful is also weakened by her choices. She recognizes her weakness as a woman when she states, Beauty provoketh thieves sooner than gold, and decides to dress as a man as she ventures into the world (Page 26). Although this is a different time it is still relevant as her only strength comes from donning a costume of a man. In modern film, female characters classified as strong are picking up traits considered more masculine and emulating men, although not physically. To compensate for this loss of obvious gender roles in clothing, females have been given their femininity back on only a cosmetic level, while increasing male ideals drastically proving to audiences it just a character and they have no need to fear the loss of their well known ideas about men and women. Mengele especially hated gypsies, and viewed them as more of a subspecies than other groups he killed. Most of you know me and for the ones who do not, I am Mabel Dodge. I am the daughter from a family in Buffalo and had what was considered the best education for girls in the nineteenth century. Instead of going to college, I got married, became a mother and soon, a widow. Later, I traveled abroad and soon married a Boston architect, Edwin Dodge who I later realized the passion I had was no more so I divorced him. Society categorizes them as less intelligent, not capable of working in job fields such as construction, and generally less important than men. Because of these ideas, women do not have the same advantages as men. The importance is the effect it has on the progression of the future. Today, women have overcome most stereotypes, but there are still plenty remaining. Most stereotypes originate from ancient times, for example this theme is seen in the Odyssey, written by Homer, who is considered the first and greatest epic poet. Women face persecution daily through the media and society, yet the way society thinks towards them is changing. In the Odyssey, there is a demeaning description of women. The thought of how evil and useless women are shows up in all female characters. The main theory is women are possessions or prizes to be won. They are shown as malevolent, sinister beings with terrible intentions. Starting with Calypso, Homer describes her as evil and unfair. Calypso takes Odysseus captive and makes him become her boyfriend (Homer 485). There is no mention of Odysseus wanting to stay; therefore, it makes Calypso sound worse than she probably is. Yet, the definition of sacrifice is ambiguous and relies on individual interpretation: it can be willingly trading lesser possessions for more desirable goals or forcibly relinquishing values. After the summer at Grand Isle, Edna begins to pursue her own interests, relieving herself of obligations because she no longer feels content to feed upon opinion when her own soul had invited her (94). Edna s awakening is directly caused by her perception of sacrifice. Realizing that fulfilling social roles necessitates giving up her autonomy, Edna fights against the sacrifice that her culture expects from women. She moves out into a pigeon house and refuses to entertain guests on reception day, small actions which resist the social pressures threatening her personal identity. Edna consciously destroys the facade of a traditional life for her genuine desires, noting that it is better to wake up after all, even to suffer, rather than to remain a dupe to illusions (112). Self discovery is worth life s delirium to Edna; the possible social repercussions and stigma are painful but necessary sacrifices. On the other hand, using of the public goods does not make lower the value of the resources whoever uses it. He gives an unusual observations regarding Indian Village which has no clearly defined social domain or institution separate from state authority. The author observed total of forty one villages, and he found out that people in all of the villages share the goods and services very effectively and evenly based on common property rights. The reason why this village could use resources properly is that there are four main institutions; a village council, village standing fund, village guards, and common irrigators; which have their own common property rights. This is how alternate dispute resolutions were developed. Alternate Dispute Resolutions were developed in response to the expense and difficulty of bringing a lawsuit. Some examples of resolutions are; mediation, arbitration, negotiation, mini trial, fact finding and using a judicial referee (pg 59). Even though arbitration is the most common form of resolution, I believe mediation is the best way to reach a settlement for both parties while saving them time and money. This is of course depending on the case. Three reasons why I believe mediation is a good form of resolution are First, because the plaintiff has more freedom to take certain actions before taking their case to trial. Second, because it would end up being less costly. Lastly, because the plaintiff can gather all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, a lot of cases are family related problems where there are emotions involved. It can simply be that both parties are misunderstanding each other or don t know how to deal with a certain situation. A mediator helps both parties see the other s side of the problem making it easier in a more relaxed environment, to come up with a settlement, then to take it to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Learning Journal Entry Your learning journal entry must be a reflective statement that considers the following questions: 1. Describe what you did. This does not mean that you copy and paste from what you have posted or the assignments you have prepared. You need to describe what you did and how you did it. Before I write anything in the discussion forums or an assignment, I generally complete all of my readings and notes. For my notes I use mostly the Cornell Method of note taking, and all of my notes for each week are contained within individual weekly documents files, explicitly dated and titled. When taking notes I generally read a paragraph or two and then try to shorten down the key points. Most typical notes are taken on a computer, however, like in the case ... That I really enjoy working hard, and learning. I had thought that I had started to lose some of my interest in learning over the last few years, fortunately though, this is not the case. Also, I used to not really enjoy writing essays, however, I am actually enjoying the process a lot now. 5. In what ways am I able to apply the ideas and concepts gained to my own experience? One of the most important aspects of a programming is their ability to solve problems. I hope that I continue to take this concept to heart in the years to come. • 48. How Does Piggy Build Order In Lord Of The Flies Have you ever considered what would happen without anyone present to maintain order? Throughout William Golding s The Lord of the Flies , Piggy is portrayed as the responsible one on the island and helps develop a theme of order versus chaos through his organization on the island, the bullying he faces and his death. Piggy s attempt to organize on the island helps develop a theme of order versus chaos because having an organized society helps build order, and Piggy attempted to re create that. An example is where it describes Piggy when Ralph first blows the conch: Piggy moved among the crowd, asking names and frowning to remember them. (14). The fact that asking people their names is the first job that Piggy does shows that he wants to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He made the conch a symbol of order. The conch brings the boys together for meetings where they can talk and have order. Piggy also makes it so you cannot speak unless you have the conch. Piggy and the conch become very close, as if Piggy feels it as the only thing that has order, from being humiliated by all the other boys. An example of this is after all the boys run up the mountain to make a fire: Like kids! he said scornfully, Acting like a crowd of kids! Ralph looked at him doubtfully and laid the conch on a tree trunk... What do they think they re going to do on that mountain? He caressed the shell respectively, then stopped and looked up. Ralph! Hey! Where are you going? (37). This shows that the conch is a symbol of order because Ralph puts it down once order is lost and chaos begins when all the boys run up the mountain, but Piggy picks it up and starts caressing it, mourning the loss of order. Finally, he stops caressing it when Ralph decides to join the chaos and runs up the mountain after the other boys. Piggy is killed when Roger pushes a rock on Piggy which shatters the conch and sends Piggy flying out to sea to his death: The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. (200). This shows that with the death of Piggy, the conch, a symbol of order on the island, also dies. Note how Golding describes it as ceased to exist . It shows that order ceased to exist with the death of the conch and Piggy, the only two things on the island that build or represent order, and how chaos ensues after they are gone. That is why Piggy s death on the island helps develop a theme of order versus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
