Secret Service Agent Training Programs
The United States Secret Service started in 1865. At first the Secret Service goal was to combat
the counterfeiting currency. The duties of the Secret Service agent expanded after the
assassination of President William McKinley in 1901 at Buffalo, New York. Everyone knows
that the Secret Service agents will take a bullet for the President, but what they may not know is
that Secret Service agents are just as prepared to take a bullet for everyone under their care. The
Secret Service agents are charged with tasks of protecting the President, Vice President, and both of
their immediate families that are selected by the President or Vice President. The United States

In 1988, President Bill Clinton established National Security Event Procedures to help federal
agencies prevent terrorist attacks on such events as the Super Bowl or the Academy Awards. In the
aftermath of the 9/11, President George W. Bush reorganized the procedures, placing the Secret
Service in charge of NSSE Security and the FBI in charge of intelligence and counterterrorism. The
Secret Service gave birth to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). When the Department of
Justice needed to conduct investigations at a national level, it borrowed agents from the Secret
Service, who were both dedicated and highly trained. The problem was that Secret Service agents
did not report to the attorney general but to their own director. In 1908, the attorney general hired
nine Secret Service agents and commissioned them as Special Agents of the Justice Department.
These special agents would be the heart of the Bureau of Investigation, later becoming the Federal

Cabernet Sauvignon With My Brother Analysis
Analyse how ideas were used to comment on the nature of society in the written Texts. In the
Short Story Cabernet Sauvignon With My Brother written by Owen Marshall the ideas of self
sufficiency, privacy, revenue and depression are brought forward. Through these issues we can
see that the nature of relationships between people are of high importance. New Zealand is a
known country where people tend to live self sufficient life styles. This is shown through the
story in a number of ways. Raf the main character in the story believes in the two important ideas
of privacy and revenue this is seen through the fact that Raf gave up his job of being a lecturer at
Lincoln University to purchase a block of land. Living self sufficiently off the

Essay on Philiosophy
Philiosophy
Philosophy is an all important aspect of our lives. It is philosophy that we turn to when have the
need to seek out a guiding principle for our lives. Therefore, philosophy holds a prominent place
in society and in the world. Basically, everyone is a philosopher, but it takes the creative genius
and reasoning of brilliant thinkers to bring about world shattering concepts. Nevertheless, the
common man also ruminates about his life and his unique existence to try to find the meaning of
his life. Over a life time, a constitution or a theme is developed to discern the ideas that one can
readily accept. Interestingly, the philosophies of men separated by vast chasms of time and space

What one believes is sacred and my own beliefs, I cherish dearly. In this aspect, philosophy allows
us to live our lives with confidence, because we know that ideas cannot be taken from us. In the
United States, we can feel free to express our opinions and beliefs as long as we do not impinge
upon other s rights. This is where a common philosophy has been accepted and adopted by a
people. This macrocosmic unity of a nation demonstrates the power of philosophy. In another area,
philosophy is vital: religion. Religions are perhaps the largest groups of people who share a
common philosophy. Their uniform beliefs cause the members of each religion to philosophize in
a common theme in which the religion does not allow any radical deviation. One of philosophy s
most important aspects is its flexibility. This flexibility allows the individual to endlessly engender
new thoughts and theories. It was this flexibility that encouraged great thinkers to expound their
ideas. It is dubious that their ideas can change others , but in each stage of transition and growth
there is an opportunity for new philosophies to come in and help us live our lives better.
Philosophy grants us the chance to live a fulfilled life, full of actions and thoughts true to ourselves.
We find enlightenment in philosophy, from ourselves and others. There is always an inenarrable
satisfaction when a new idea comes to us. Such is the

Public Health Association Of Australia
I would like to suggest further options that can be adopted by the present Government. Nationwide
free information sessions (communicative intervention) targeting pregnant women in antenatal
clinics and parents in schools should be organised about 2 3 times per year. These sessions would
stress on explaining the expected benefits and importance of vaccinations, with question time
periods to enable parents to clear out any doubts. Take home informative brochures would also be
designed and distributed.
Improving access (facilitative intervention) to parents from remote and rural areas is also another
good way to ensure immunisation uptake. Another good idea would be to distribute food vouchers
(distributive approach) to parents coming from the distant rural areas.
We could also focus on monitoring the spread of vaccine preventable diseases, via the ACIR, so as
to detect any outbreak at the earliest possible and take the necessary preventive measures
(communicative intervention).
Policy actors in favour
Probable actors in favour of resolving the issue would be the World Health Organisation, the Public
Health Association of Australia, members of the Government(in particular those working in the
Immunise Australia Program), and health professionals (in particular doctors).
These interest groups would have different objectives which could be achieved by supporting
issues that lead to the increase in childhood immunisation uptake. WHO would be expected to be in

How Graphic Design Has Had On Popular Culture And Consumerism
In this summative essay I would like to explore and analyse the influence that Graphic design
has had on popular culture and consumerism. Graphic design can be defined as the art and
practice of planning and projecting ideas and experiences with visual and textual content. The
form of the communication can be physical or virtual, and may include images, words, or
graphic forms. (aiga.org) Designers are problem solvers and it is their job to come up with a
suitable solution to a problem. They have to find the best suitable means to communicate a
particular message. Graphic Designers are at the forefront of advertising and the battle of selling
giving the designer even greater responsibility, because of this graphic designers play a big role in
consumerism. Consumerism, as a social and economic order and ideology encourages the
acquisition of goods and services in ever greater amounts. (wikipedia.org) Society have been
gradually made to believe that they can increase their happiness through buying and spending.
Consumerism is an international problem, but has existed for many years, people purchasing
goods that exceeded those of their basic needs dates way back to the first civilisations, in the eras
of ancient Egypt and Rome. A turn in consumerism arrived just before the industrial revolution,
people worked long hours and earned low wages, so they didn t have the time or the disposable
income for excess spending. The industrial revolution welcomed the use of assembly

White House React To Women s March With Silence Analysis
The article of the week White House reacts to Women s March With Silence was basically about
how Donald Trump is ignoring all the protests right outside the White House. The article was week
was interesting, because of the way reacted to the protests. There were hundreds of thousand of
people protesting for Women s March all over the country. What I learned from the article is how
hundreds of thousands of people protested against Donald Trump. It surprises me that Trump barely
reacted to the protesters right outside the White House.
First of all, I think Donald Trump shouldn t have ignored the protests. He addressed the protests
with a single tweet Peaceful protests are a hallmark of our democracy. Even if I don t always agree,
I recognize the rights of people to express their views. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which means he obviously saw them. Then, Trump s Press Secretary Sean Spicer planned to
make a statement. All Spicer did was scold reporters, and he did not answer any protest question. I
researched inaugurations and I found that a inauguration is the transfer of power from the previous
president to president elect. Donald Trump s inauguration was on January 20th 2017. Supreme
Court Chief Justice John Roberts swore in Donald Trump. Since Trump is our new president, he
should at least address the protesters.
Besides, the first amendment law states congress shall make no law abridging freedom of speech.
I think it is really amazing so many came to protest outside the White House. I didn t think so
many people would be protesting. I really think all these protests are great, we are using the first
amendment. All these woman marching down to the White to protest against Trump, I am so glad
they are doing this. If no one says anything about what they think is wrong, nothing will ever
change. I personally think Trump is not fit to be president. Trump is disrespecting all the protesters

Analysis Of Inherit The Wind
Written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, the play Inherit the Wind is a fictitious spin off
of the historical Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925, which hotly debated the concept of evolutionism
vs. creationism and, in general, a person s right to think. Overall this play shows the growth of
many different types of characters. One of these characters would be Rachel Brown, the
reverend s daughter, as well as Bert Cates love interest. She is torn between her love for Bert and
her loyalty to her father, the Reverend Jeremiah Brown. At the beginning of the play she fears
her father and follows only what he says. As the play progresses Rachel becomes more confidant
and starts to think for herself. By the end of the play she has created her own identity and
completely separates herself from her father. Rachel is first introduced into the play at the very
beginning where we see she has gone to the jail to visit her boyfriend Bert Cates. Rachel is very
desperate to try and get Bert to just throw himself at the mercy of the court and admit that what
he did was wrong. She just wants to be with him. As she enters the jail she speaks to Meeker
saying Mr Meeker, don t let my father know I came here , This quote portrays Rachel s character
very well. She is shy and lacks confidence, obviously worried of what would happen if her father
found out she was visiting Cates, the enemy to her father at this point. She has lived her life in fear
of her father and because of she followed everything

Structural Functionalist Theory Vs Conflict Theory
There are many, different sociological theories on how society works in America. Two of the major
theories are known as Structural Functionalism Theory and the Conflict Theory. The structural
functionalism theory states that society is a system filled with different subsections that provide
specific functions in keeping society in order. While the conflict theoryimplies that society is in a
state of conflict because of the competition for limited resources. Functionalists conclude that the
interconnected systems help maintain social equilibrium in society. Conflict theorists, however,
view society as a competition, and social conflicts are due to limited resources, inequality, and
power. Both theories provide different perspectives on how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Society is the human body and all the different subsections are the organs that keep the body
running smoothly. These subsections are believed to be necessary to keep society functioning
properly. Religion, education, family, the political system, and economy are just some of the larger
parts of this system that is working to keep society in order. It is believed that in times of social
revolution the social equilibrium is lost or becomes unbalanced. The theory of structural
functionalism seems to focus on more of the social order and stability in society, while Conflict
theory focuses more on social change and conflict itself. Conflict theorist use inequality of social
class to explain phenomena like wars, poverty, discrimination, and domestic violence. They say
that people of power and wealth are the ones that have attributed to the development of inequality
over time. For example, a person of power may suddenly realize their extent of power and do
whatever it takes to maintain that power no matter who or what group it affects in the long run,
giving conflict theorist all the reason to believe that social class is what can cause conflict. Now,
even though both theories have different perspectives on society, they do present some similarities

The Roaring Twenties; an era of unprecedented change, were highlighted by Ford s mass
production of the Model T, the birth of Jazz, the provocative new woman (flapper), and large
economic growth. Unfortunately, not everything during the 1920 s was perfect, organized
crime was on the rise and so was one of America s most deranged serial killers. Hamilton Howard

murders, and cannibalism. This case study is intended to provide a Criminological perspective on

Identity, Authenticity and Survival Essay
Formative Writing I : Identity, Authenticity and Survival by Kandru Manibhushan Rao Kwame
Anthony Appiah s essay on Identity, Authenticity and Survival is based on Charles Taylor s earlier
work on recognition and identity. Though Taylor s references to identity are mostly to collective
identity, Appiah s aim is to draw a comparison or even find a connection between individual identity
and collective identity. Identity A collective identity, explains Appiah, is the way an individual is
recognized based on broad qualities of categorization such as gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual
orientation, etc. Whereas individual identity is born from personal characteristics such as wit,
charm, grace,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* Individual Dimension: This comprises of traits such as intelligence, charm, wit, cupidity, etc.
which are all socially important features. Authenticity Authenticity, as described by authors such
as Lionel Trilling and Charles Taylor is the idea of living one s life by one s own reference and
for one s own self without yearning for recognition or acceptance from the collective or society.
However, Appiah points out that the search for authenticity is somewhat a paradoxical one. The
search for authenticity, as said, goes as much against the demands for a prescribed social life as it
does for the recognition of one s real self. There are two layer for recognition of originality
/authenticity: * How a person identifies or recognizes himself among other people. * How a culture
bearing group (minority) recognizes itself among a larger group. This leg of Appiah s essay focuses
extensively on Trilling s contradictory statements on authenticity. Claiming one s authentic
ethnicity, for example, for the need of expressing one s originality in turn proves one s need for
social acknowledgement for such originality. Even counterconventionalism requires needs
recognition from conventionalist. The problem that arises here is, in order to be original, an
individual has to understand convention and being everything that it is not, thus resulting in the
individual being not authentic,

The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen and the Declaration of the Rights of Woman
declares equal rights to all citizens. As outlined in point 3 in the Declaration of the Rights of
Man and Citizen : The source of all sovereignty resides essentially in the nation; no group, no
individual may exercise authority not emanating expressly therefrom (4/6). This statement
shows that power is to be exercise by the people and their representatives, and clearly challenged
the current rule of the Louis XIV as an absolute monarch. In The King s Declaration , he
criticizes the inefficiency and the accumulation of power of the assemblies and explains in
different parts of his declaration that his rule as a monarch is important and essential for the well
being of France. As Louis XIV points out in The King s Declaration , The does not think it is
possible to govern a kingdom of such great extent and importance as France though the means
established by the National Assembly, as they existed at present (12). Louis XIV denies the
National Assembly any kind final decision making power but he rather sees himself as the final
authority in France and therefore also denies equal rights to every citizen.... Show more content on

How Does Maya Angelou Relate To Racism
Maya Angelou and the Theme of Racism
Poems provide a new insight and portray many meanings. Maya Angelou, born in 1928, was a
highly achieved, versatile woman whom is an author, poet, dancer, and actress. In her poems and
in life, racism is integrated. This is seen in Angelou s familial and other life experiences, the
literary devices seen in Still I Rise, and the extension of the metaphor in Caged Bird.
Maya Angelou was born in St. Louis, MO and soon later moved to a segregated part of AK,
known as Stamps. This relocation was because of her parents divorce and Angelou was only 3
when it happened. When this 7 year old girl was visiting her mother back in MO, she suffered at
the hands of a family associate (Maya Angelou Biography). According to Poetry Foundation,
Maya was raped by her mother s boyfriend. As a result of this crime , Maya s uncles killed this
man. This man was able to be killed because seeing Angelou was black, this man only received a
one day sentence for the rape. This time, 1930 s, was still a time for racism. As a child, these
traumatic events caused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hamlet s Vengeance
An unidentifiable person once stated Revenge is a dish best served cold. What this saying
means is that revenge is best served with patience and not immediately. The relevance of this
saying to the play is Hamlet and his intent to murder King Claudius. He was very patient and
considerate of the death of Claudius, believing he should kill him during a moment of sin, so the
soul of Claudius would suffer in the fires of hell. However, Hamlets strive to avenge his father s
death lead to a series of deaths, rather than one. His vengeance would eventually result to the killing
of an innocent, the suicide of one s daughter, and the vengeance of one s son. Vengeance is the
infliction of a punishment in cause of a wrong doing. When Hamletwas... Show more content on

Laertes found out about his father s death, and returned home immediately. Laertes confronted
and accused King Claudius of his father s death. Claudius told Laertes that Hamlet was
responsible for everything. Laertes then decides to avenge his father by plotting with Claudius
to killing Hamlet. For example, Laertes said So mortal that, but dip a knife in it, where it draws
blood no cataplasm so rare, collected from all simples that have virtue under the moon, can save
the thing from death that is but scratched withal. (Shakespeare 233) As a result, Laertes goes out
of his way to plot Hamlets death by dipping the tip of his sword in poison. Like Hamlet, Laertes
shared the same passion of revenge, which ultimately lead to Laertes s downfall. For example,
during the duel between Hamlet and Laertes, Hamlet stabs Laertes with his own poisoned sword
that causes his death Why as a woodcock to mine own springe, Osric. I am justly killed with
mine own treachery. (Shakespeare 279) Therefore, Laertes illustrates that after his father s death
Laertes had one goal in mind and that was to avenge his father by killing Hamlet. This lead the
Laertes s death because he became so obsess with vengeance, that he did not account for Hamlet to
use his poison sword against him in his plot to kill

Assess the contribution of social action theory to our...
For years, social action theorists have sought out to understand how society operates. Unlike
structuralists for example Marxists, action theorists are a micro level approach where they find the
study of the individual and their interactions within society more important to our understanding.
Action theorists are more voluntaristic, they believe that individuals possess agency where they
have the ability to be free agents in themselves and in shaping society.
Max Weber is well known within sociology as one of the founding fathers. He believes that over
generalisation should be avoided as much as possible and we should understand human action,
hence social action theory . Weber contributed four ideal types that should be used to study... Show

Other critics such as Ethnomethodologists argue that interactionists fail to explain how actors create
the meanings of the symbols.
Phenomenologists like Ethnomethodologists believe there is not social structure out there but it is
a social construct made by the individuals. Phenomenologist, Husserl argues that the society we
live in is a product of our mind because we get information from mental acts that are categories we
use to group information and give them meaning. Schutz uses this idea and argues it applies to
how people share them in society. Using the term typification Schutz, explains how people have
shared meanings of particular social contexts. These are agreed upon to stabilise and clarify within
a social interaction as commonsense knowledge and without these social order would not be
possible.
Luckmann argues against Schutz rejecting his view that society is only an inter subjective reality.
Luckmann points out that Schutz sees all of society socially constructed by individuals that create
the society which then takes on a life of its own. Luckman sees Schutz as failing to see the the
structures in society that constrain us to become an individual in society, for example laws in the
Catholic Church about homosexual relations.
Ethnomethodology (EM), like all action theorists discussed use a micro approach, and it

The Journey Of Independence And Independence
The Journey to Independence It was 11:54 PM, six minutes before my birthday was officially
over. I sat in my darkened bedroom, silent tears streaming down my face, as I waited for a call or
text from my friends. It had been my birthday for twenty three hours and fifty four minutes, and I
had heard nothing from them. I lay in my bed, wondering how this had happened. Before I started
high school, I was part of a close knit group of friends that was nearly inseparable. When freshman
year began, however, things changed. I was gradually pushed out of their circle as they started
making new friends. In the beginning, I let it happen, thinking that they would eventually come

I went along with it in the beginning, afraid that I would miss out on something unforgettable. But

fear of getting in trouble with my parents was much stronger than my desire to go to parties,
which ended up alienating me. My friends and I were still on good terms, but the tension between
us grew as our definition of fun changed. By the time Christmas break had rolled around, I was
ready to take a break from school and celebrate the holidays, which included my birthday, with my
friends and family. Unbeknownst to me, my fifteenth birthday would be one to remember in the
worst way possible. I did not have high expectations for my birthday. I planned on having an

choice. I was expecting some Happy Birthday text messages and Facebook posts from friends, a
phone call from my grandma, and some kind of birthday surprise from my best friends. Before I
knew it, however, my birthday was over, and I had heard from just about everyone except for my
two closest friends. I was overwhelmed with confusion, sadness, and eventually, resentment. I
began to think about how I had gone above and beyond to celebrate their birthdays. I had planned

Comparing Taming Of The Shrew And Zeffirelli s
One s true sentiments lie buried beneath what seems to be multiple layers of personal propaganda.
However, despite these fabricated personas deceiving most, may only be seen through by those
who dare to look further; those who remain unfooled by the performance. This statement abides
intact for Katherina Minola, one of William Shakespeare s protagonists in The Taming of the Shrew
, as well as the protagonist for the Zeffirelli Burton production of the same name, with Elizabeth
Taylor as Katherina. Throughout both works, the portrayal of Katherina is a fiercely independent
and quite violent womanwho suffers great internal conflicts hidden by this shrewish personality, yet
the Zeffirelli Burton production spares little room for interpretation... Show more content on

Perhaps due to the egregious difference in the perception of a character when acted out by a
human being, Katherina appears to be more violent and physical in her behaviours compared to
her character in the play. For instance, during her argument with Bianca in the play, she simply
strikes her once before the interference of Baptista. However, Katherina chases her through the
corridors of the Minola residence with a large sword acting as a threat, as she unabatingly enjoins
her to confess which suitor she favours. Destroying furniture and throwing items during the
process of her beseeching Bianca for a confession, Katherina almost uses the sword on her as she
flies towards her in a stabbing stance, until the appearance of Baptista interferes with her intention
to impale her younger sister. In comparison with the pure striking of Bianca in the play, Katherina
presents herself as not only more physically violent, but more malicious and willing to cause
injury, indicating a greater temper as well. In addition, Katherina s violence ensues with her first
encounter with Petruchio. Arriving at the Minola residence to woo Katherina, she is not at all
impressed by his first appearance. When the two are placed into solidarity and Petruchio quite
suddenly proposes to Katherina, she becomes enraged by his forward

Religion vs Power, Failure of Interregnum Essays
Vs Religion was more important than politics in the failure of the interregnum regimes of 1649
1660 assess the validity of this statement.
In this essay I will be exploring the argument of whether religion was more important than politics
in the failure of the interregnum regimes of 1649 1660 there are various arguments to be addressed.
The first factor that I will address is the political failures that assisted in the failure of the
interregnum period. There were multiple political failures that can be provided as reasons for the
failure of the interregnum, the first of which was the dissolution of the rump parliament after
Cromwell expressed his disgust at their attitude towards bringing in a new parliament, the rump was

Cromwell also believed that the failure of the Western Design to the West Indies was a sign of
God s displeasure at England s progress, and that a godly reform of the nation s morals was
urgently required. During August and September 1655, Cromwell worked with John Lambert,
John Disbrowe and Sir Gilbert Pickering to finalise arrangements for the new system the rule of
major generals . The Major Generals were formally commissioned on 11 October 1655 and
proclaimed on 31 October. The country was divided into 12 regions, each governed by a Major
General who was answerable only to the Lord Protector. While the Major Generals were successful
in law enforcement and in curbing security threats to the Protectorate their attempts at reforming
the nation s morals varied from region to region according to the zeal of individual officers, but
had no lasting effects. Cromwell himself was aware of the unpopularity of military government and
seems to have given tacit support to those who opposed its renewal. The system was abandoned
early in 1657 under a new constitution: the Humble Petition and Advice.
These failures all added greatly to the eventual failure of the interregnum however there were
religious factors which added to the failure as well; the Penruddock uprising was a royalist
uprising which was able to knock the confidence of the protector although it was dealt with quickly
and efficiently by Oliver Cromwell it made him

Summary Of Herman Hesse s Demian
Herman Hesse s Demian emphasizes the importance of change and self discovery. Emil Sinclair, the
story s protagonist, experiences various adjustments, which in time influence his values and
identity. As the story develops, Sinclair acquaints himself to Max Demian, an intellectual being,
who further encourages him to acknowledge the human s definite capabilities. Through his
interpretation of Cain, Demianimpacts the way in which Sinclair views the world. His
understanding of the story contradicts the standard Christian narrative. Seeing as his principal
conflict revolves around the distinction of the good and the bad, Sinclair continuously suppresses
his feelings towards the controversial aspect of things. Through this, one becomes aware of the
depicted duality of Cain and Abel. Furthermore, Sinclair progressively becomes intrigued with the
world s divergence which is contradictory to Christianity and its values. The incorporation of Cain
and Abel is quite controversial, in terms of society and its standards. All in all, Hesse impeccably
interprets Cain s mark by bringing awareness to the characters possessing alternate mindsets. This
essay serves to address the interpretation of Cain s mark, as Hesse demonstrates its existence
through distinguishing individuals, and its effect on society.
Conforming with societal norms, the story s protagonist is patently characterized through his
innocence and his perception of the world. Due to its assurance of freedom and safety, Emil

Notes On Antacid Potency And Its Effects On Their...

Honors Chemistry P3 Group 3
Topic: Antacid Potency
Due Date: 9/30/16
Background Research
For the scientists project, they are researching different brands of antacid and their potency to
further expand their knowledge of acids, bases, and neutralization. Their problem statement is
which liquid antacid brand is most potent? In the scientist s experiment, their independent variable
is the brand of liquid antacid. The dependent variable is the amount of drops of antacid it takes for
the acid inside the graduated cylinder to become neutralized. The constant is the amount of grape
juice and lemon juice (drops) in each graduated cylinder.
In a chemical reaction with an acid and base combination, the base neutralizes the acid. Antacids
follow this process once entered your body to soothe an upset stomach during heartburn. The
scientist s hypothesis is if a brand uses the least amount of average drops to neutralize the acid,
then it is most potent. In order to test the hypothesis in the scientist s experiment, they will test
different brands of liquid antacid against each other to find out which is most potent in
neutralizing lemon juice (acid). They will do this by having 3 different graduated cylinders, each
filled with 10 drops of non sugar grape juice (a natural acid base indicator which changes color
based upon what the pH of another liquid is when it makes contact with it) and 10 drops of lemon
juice (acid). Each brand will have its own graduated cylinder. For

Designing And Implementing A Technology Project Essay
Designing and implementing a technology project that spans the three different areas of the
team will take a considerable amount of time, energy, planning and resources. The system must
incorporate a balance between all areas as well as a mechanism that supports the growing
demand for output of quality product in a sufficient and efficient manner. Since all three areas
(victim correspondence, property acquisitions, and debt management) function under various
rules and procedures according to internal governance as well as Federal statutes and policies,
the system must be cross functional and multi functional as well as legally compliant. In as
much, a lot of consideration is necessary when deciding which product, software, and system to
choose. For example, the current system used by the debt management section of the Team uses
an Oracle Business product that relies on dashboards to compile, sort, and analyze data.
However, the victim correspondence system uses a web based system that relates case summary
and detailed information as well as downloads and links to system and case related inquiries and
information. Legalities are also to be taken into consideration. Most available products are legally
owned by other corporations and are likely leased on long term bases. Because these intellectual
products are leased, the corporation still owns the rights to the products and full access or
manipulation or alterations to the products is a topic for discussion prior to

Examples Of Bronfenbrenner
Introduction Urie Bronfenbrenner was a Russian born American psychologist and is best known for
his ecological system in the development of a child where he defines the four concentric systems
that are the micro , the meso , the exo and the macrosystems. He later added a time related fifth
system, the chronosystem. Bronfenbrenner is revered as one of the leading world authorities in the
field of development psychology. The following essay will have an in depth explanation of
Bronfenbrenner s theory and a few examples. Microsystems This is the layer closest to the child,
which they have direct contact with. The microsystem encompasses the relationships and
interactions a child has with her immediate surroundings (Berk, 2000). The structures that is
included in this system includes the family members, school or childcare and community
environment. This is the system that shapes the individual in terms of their moral, social, emotional
and spiritual development. The parents may influence the child s beliefs and development and visa

Animal Testing And Its Effects On The Poor Treatment Of...
An increasing number of activists believe that animals have rights. However, this idea is
somewhat controversial because animal activists look down upon the poor treatment of animals.
They have a fear that animal testing is causing abuse and suffering to the helpless animals. Animal
testing is a fairly serious matter because of all of the malfunctions and harm that leads to animal
suffrage. The types of animals being used, such as rats, mice, rabbits, and chips are selected
specifically for the test that is being performed. The outcomes of the test, depends on which animal
is being tested and what it is being examined for. Common tests being used on animals include,

And all indications are that it will meet the standard of a design that wowed journalists as a
concept last year. Designed after classic pony cars of the 1960s, the fastback roofline and
trapezoidal rear windows echo 1965 66 Shelby Mustangs, and up front, the shark like headlamps
and grille suggest 1967 68 ponies. It is an inspired design that echoes glory days of the past in a
contemporary design that will not feel out of place on the road. It s not a classic car it s the
remaking of a classic. And if it handles with the same inspiration of its design, the Mustang will
likely bring back the passion and the unadulterated fun of a good rear wheel kick in the

Age Of Reform Essay
Anti slavery, perfect societies, connections with nature, and less alcohol were just some of the
issues discussed and acted upon during the Age of Reform. The Age of Reform was a social
reform, or an attempt to improve upon issues in society, occurred in America during the mid 1800
s. Reform movements such as public education and women s rights both made essential impacts on
American Society. One of the many changes in the Age of Reform was the reform of public
education. The first schools were built for religious purposes, but during this period, the reformers
wanted better schools to make sure that the future voters would be informed. Also, these schools
would help immigrants become part of the culture of American society. Massachusetts was... Show

Originally, the rights of American women were minor. Women could not vote, serve on juries, or
attend colleges among other restrictions. Women like Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton
fought long and hard for civil, religious, and social rights of American women. Stanton wrote the
Declaration of Sentiments which was modeled after the Declaration of Independence. This
declaration demanded equality of men and women. Women s suffrage, or the right to vote, was
another struggle for the women to overcome. These women did win some small victories such as
convincing New York to pass a law protecting women s property rights, and some states even
began to allow married women to keep their wages. Education also improved for women.
American schools were focused on educating boys, who would grow up to be voters, so Emma
Willard started The Troy Female Seminary. Eventually, Mary Lyon built Mount Holyoke Female
Seminary, which was the first college for women, although it was not called a college at the time.
Even though education improved for women, it would not be until 1920 that a constitutional
amendment would be made to allow women to vote. The Women s Rights Movement was a very
major and important improvement for American

The Impact Of Web 2.0 Technology On An Global Market Place
INB20009/ MKT20011 Managing the Global Market Place
Essay The Impact of Web 2.0 Technology on an international firm s approach to Managing the
Global Market Place
The global marketplace consists of business transactions amongst all nations around the world
that are not restricted by geographic locations. This worldwide scale of sales, purchase and
exchange of goods and services unsurprisingly makes it much more difficult to manage, as
opposed to a smaller, domestic business. It is important for managers of the global marketplace to
utilise the resources available, in order to effectively and efficiently deal business outside of
country borders. Web 2.0 Technology in particular, is a fairly new but extremely successful and
growing tool evident in the international marketplace. It refers to the World Wide Weband its use as
a platform to gather intelligence across the globe (O Reilly, 2009).
In order to manage the global marketplace, it is necessary to take into consideration the two main
factors of globalisation. Globalisation is the progression of the economy through cultural, political
and technological integration around the world (Wild Han, 2010). One of its major catalysts is
falling barriers to trade, which is the decrease in international boundaries between countries,
resulting in easier import and export transactions (Wild Han, 2010). This can be achieved through
different methods such as the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Under these agreements,

Film Analysis Of The Film MoBetter Blues
Mo Better Blues is a 1990 music drama film. Mo Better Blues follows a jazz musician named
Bleek Gilliam (Denzel Washington) who is obsessed with his art, but because he begins a path
that separates him from the person closest to him. Another band member encountered a problem
in another quintet named Shadow Henderson (Wesley Snipes), which led to everyone in the
band. Their manager Giant (Spike Lee) is Bleek s best friend because he is a child, but as a
manager, he is absolutely horrible, deep gambling debt. In addition, Blake (Bleek) balance the

In the end, Spike Lee is still as obsessed with his own style as he used to be, and is getting better
and better. Worse, because of the limited number of stories in Mo better Blues, Spike Lee stretched
it in two hours, but his real passion for fashion films was to make things interesting. The themes
that are touched in the script are the characters and their relationship setting actors to maximize
their potential is interesting. But at the same time, li peng s devotion to mo blues is sincere. You
can express it clearly through simple movies. ...
Mo Better Blues signature style is attractive. In the daytime scene, the film took all the deep tan,
emphasizing the nature of the city. When the night falls, the film shoots all the effective contrasting
shadows and charming lighting to capture the real jazz mood. The film s soul is captured through
its atmosphere, the film is the key to this. The real technique in film photography is also good
because the way the camera uses the focus is very atmospheric, slowly using slow motion, scaling
and clutch angles as well. These have reached a high point in the musical of the film because the
visual style coincides with the nature of the music s hypnotic jazz, and the mood is just with the
audience to attract them, which is a very versatile and artistic experience that makes Mo Better
Blues became one of the best films ever made by Stricker Lee.

Old Spice Advertising
. The target audience of the Old Spice advertisement are older men with significant others who need
a good scent.
2. Detail one: I think this is the targeted audience because he speaks to the audience saying that
you (speaking to males) could smell like me if you stop using the lady scented body wash. Saying
to other men, stop smelling like a girl and instead use Old Spice and smell like a man. Detail two:
At the end of the video there is a phrase on the screen that reads, smell like a man, man. This
clearly states the targeted audience because he is saying to all the men out there to smell like a
man and be like me. He also says, anything is possible when you re man smells like a man and not
a lady. This phrase gives the man fear of his masculinity if he uses lady scented body wash.

voice. These are qualities our society tends to associate with masculinity, and makes the scrawny

The visual picture created in the Old Spice ad included getting out of the shower to the
expensive boat, and then to a beach on a horse. Getting out of the shower represents reality, and
getting out of the shower can apply to everyone. Then going to the beach and being on a boat
can represent paradise and this may give the product more appeal with this type of a background
rather than a non aesthetically pleasing background. The props that are used in this visual include
a towel, diamonds, clam with tickets inside, and the Old Spice product. The props used in the
advertisement are all fresh, and clean and new. These items in a new condition suggest that using
this body wash will make you smell as new as the products. The social meaning that we associate
with these ritzy props include wealth, paradise, and cleanliness. The horse resembles being

Similarities Between Chicken And Chicken Skeletons
Belonging to different animal classes, the skeletons of humans and chickens have similarities
alongside expected differences. Analyzing a chicken skeleton led to the discovery that while there
are certainly visible differences between the bodies, both skeletons have a myriad of bones in
common. For example, the bones that both the chicken and human skeletonhave in common include:
the mandible, the clavicle, the sternum, the scapula, the humerus, and the patella. However, despite
the common bones, the chicken skeleton contains bones that humans do not have such as the
pygostyle, furcula, and sclerotic ring, while as humans have bones that chickens do not share such
as the hyoid, calcaneus, and stapes.
Despite being different species, the chicken and human skeletons have numerous bones in common.
A few of the several shared bones includes: the mandible, the clavicle, the sternum, the scapula, the
humerus, and the patella. The mandible, located in the lower part of the skull in humans, functions
to move the lower jaw which allows the mouth to open and close. Used in conjunction with
muscles, the mandible allows humans to not only speak but also consume food and drinks
(Healthline). In a chicken, the mandible forms the bottom of the beak which allows for the
consumption of foods and liquids as well as killing prey, fighting predators or other chickens, and
feeding chicks. Alongside the mandible, chickens and humans both have the clavicle bones. In
humans, the clavicle (collar

Example Of Harkness Discussion
Harkness Thoughts? Overall, I felt that we could have done much better in our Harkness
discussion. One main problem I felt with this type of discussion is that there are so many people.
In the socratic, having small groups allows everyone to be able to contribute and be involved in
the discussion. Having 10 15 people and just one really broad question doesn t cut it. I feel like
there could have been either smaller groups or multiple questions within one group. Like 10
minutes with 1 question and another ten minutes with the corresponding question.I saw that a lot of
people felt frustration because their points were being said by multiple other people, leaving them
with nothing to contribute. Therefore, a few people could be assigned one text

A Research Carried Out By Geert Hofstede And His...
This report aims to introduce the research carried out by Geert Hofstede and his colleagues,
identifying study procedures and overall outcomes. It will also examine each of the seven
dimensions individually and clearly detect primary comparisons and contrasts of this model. Key
implications of each dimension will also be studied in relation to management of Multinational
enterprises, introducing appropriate examples throughout.
Geert Hofstede defines national culture as the collective programming of the mind distinguishing
the members of one group or category of people from others (Hofstede, 2012). Hofstede s findings
were influenced by his former occupation as an IBM employee, inspiring his most significant work

The penultimate research of national culture referring to the study of value dimensions was
conducted by Michael Harris Bond. Bond carried out further exploration among a group of students
by leading a survey developed by Chinese professors, undertaken in 23 countries. This factor was
called long term orientation, which then resolved in becoming the fifth cultural dimension.
By 2010 the model was completed after a final two more dimensions were added, named
pragmatism and indulgence. The research carried out was conducted by Michael Minkov, who
studied modern World Values Survey data taken from population samples nationally. Author Robert
R.McCrae supports Hofstede s dimensions by believing that they represent a well validated
operationalization of differences between cultures as manifested in dominant value systems
(McCrae, 2004). However, as studied on the Geert Hofstede website, only 6 dimensions are needed
and necessary in defining culture attributes, resulting in pragmatism being dropped because of
overlapping of meanings with long term orientation.
Firstly, Hofstede s interpretation of power distance in comparing cultures is that it expresses the
amount by which a smaller amount of authoritative members of a civilisation agree and assume that
power in a culture is dispersed unequally.

Noah: Genesis 6:12 22 Sadly, the Bible reports that nearly all of Adam s descendents had
corrupted their way upon the earth and lost their true direction (Gen. 6:12 Amplified Bible), and,
as a result of this intolerable situation, God told Noah that He had determined to make an end of
all flesh [as well as] destroy ... the land ... by [bringing] a flood of waters upon the earth (Gen.
6:13, 17). After the Holy Creator had uttered this apocalyptic intent, He proceeded to provide
Noah with instructions on how he was to build an ark, which included information on a list of
vital materials (Gen. 6:14), some details on the manner they were to be used (Gen. 6:14), basic
blueprints of its structure (Gen. 6:14, 16), and, what measurements the floating vehicle was to
have when it was completed, which Scriptures report was to be 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide,
and 30 cubits high (Gen. 6:15). In order for Noah to be obedient to His Heavenly Father s plan
however, he must have not only known where to get the building supplies that he had need of, as
well as, been quite deft in knowing how to use them, he also had to have the knowledge of the
ratio scale of measurement so he could perform the task. Though it is evident that Noah was

Lensey Namioka s Use Of Figurative Language
Have you ever become embarrassed because you were different? The author Lensey Namioka
wrote about a girl who felt left out because her family was unique. Many authors use figurative
language to develop themes. Shel Silverstein wrote about how everyone is the same When we
turn off the light. Lensey Namioka and Shel Silverstein are two examples. They use similes,
metaphors, and hyperboles to develop the theme of tolerance in the short story The All
American Slurp, by Lensey Namioka and the poem No Difference by Shel Silverstein. In the
short story The All American Slurp, the author, Lensey Namioka uses figurative language to
develop the theme of tolerance by stating Our family retreated back to the sofa as if chased by
enemy soldiers. This shows that they were unable to tolerate the people staring at them, and had
to run away and hide. If they did tolerate the staring, they might of been able to explain that they
usually eat celery that way. Then they might of had more delicious food, and been able to talk
with everyone else. As well as that, the author stated I squirmed and died at least 50 times. This
shows the theme of tolerance because If she were able to stand up to her fears of being
embarrassed, she might of had... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Politics Of Refugee Relief
The Civil War in Syria has raged on for over six years now, and over half of the population has
fled or died in the war torn country. A constant rain of bombings, bullets and fires that burn down
their communities plague the cities of Syria. It is due to this that the large number of fleeing
refugees from the Middle East is continuing to grow. This is directly affecting the conditions of the
refugeecamps that are willing to house the majority of refugees. Therefore, the effect is growing
more unacceptable. It does seem that the camps are able to support these numbers, and some of the
asylum seekers are choosing to go elsewhere. The places that many are finding refuge are several
host communities within the surrounding territories. Here this... Show more content on

Chaos still runs rampant in the towns, rather than being safe havens for those who are seeking
shelter. The presence of war is still undeniable, and the presence of gangs is slowly rising within
the camps. In a camp in Za atari Jordan, the leaders of gangs are on the rise. In the article The
Politics of Refugee Relief. Dissent, the author addresses the issue directly by reviewing them as
powerful individuals and organized gangs [that] have imposed their will on sections of the
camp, diverting assistance and engaging in criminal activities. (para. 3) . These leaders were
once people of importance in their hometowns back in Syria. Therefore the residents of the
camps easily let them take on power within their section of the camp. According to Clarke, the
gang leaders took part in activities such as run[nning] illegal businesses or smuggling operations
(as in Lebanon, Syrians cannot legally work in Jordan), and some deliberately diverted aid and
goods to their own constituents in the camp. (para. 4) . Why is it that, in a place that is meant to
be refuge for patrons of war, they are still facing the violent actions of gang leaders and illegal
activity? The answer is simple and written clearly in the desert sand: these people are trying so
desperately to find solitude again, but are being denied the most basic principles of a stable life.
The camps are established with good intentions but lack the quality and provisions needed to
support the refugees. Such is that follows any other fallen government or territory, anarchy swept
over the nation. However, in this case, the anarchists are once respected men in the

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Motivation
The Harry Potter series relates to children and all types of readers, inviting them into the new and
different world. The Harry Potter world however parallels the real world much more than many
initially think. Students who relate to the world of Harry Potter and have grown up hearing his
name along with other favorite characters engage in the story more than with any generic story
often used in classrooms. The Harry Potterseries engages the students and encourages learning
through a subject in which the students have found interest. Keith McPherson in his article
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Motivation from the journal Teacher Librarian discusses the
importance of an engaged child while they read, Reading related research finds that reading
motivation increases when students are actively engaged with real world reading materials in
real world interactions (qtd. Brophy, 1998; Csikszentmihalyi, 1991; Yair, 2000). Children who
enjoy the stories they read, develop greater reading comprehension skills and have greater
motivation to continue reading and learning. A student who also relates to the characters he or
she reads about will discover a connection to reading that only improves the child s desire to read.
The desire to read does not decrease with age, but in fact increases. This claim remains especially
true when the love of reading develops early. One advantage of the Harry Potter series includes the
range of ages that relate to the story and its

The Increase in Drug Use in the United States Essay
The Increase in Drug Use in the United States
Since the early 1960 s there have been an alarming increase in drug use in the United States in
1962, four million Americans had tried an illegal drug. By 1999, that number had risen to a
staggering 88.7 million, according to the 1999 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse.
The late 20th century has been a chaotic time in the field of drugs and alcohol. In addition to the
persistence of some drugs such as alcohol and tobacco it has seen the resurgence of specific drugs
such as heroin and the emergence of new drugs like Special K and Ecstasy. There has been a

However even though there is no instant addiction with the first try, teens usually try more
dangerous drugs in time.
Illegal drugs, for example, weed, speed, acid, or ecstasy has always been a problem among the
teen age group, but most of the time the problems gets even more serious if it involves additive
substances such as cocaine. The most common seen illegal drug around teens in the North New
Jersey suburbs is Ecstasy, or generally called E . Ecstasy is usually taken by teens in the past for
going to clubs in New York City. But today s teens are using this drug far more than past teens
have. Teens today are not only using this drug to go out clubbing, but also at house parties in the
suburbs. A Federal Survey found that the use of MDMA, which is the abbreviated chemical name
for Ecstasy, was up almost 50 percent among high school seniors last year from 1999 in the
suburbs of New York City. The reason why these figures are up so much in a years time is the
availability and the money that today s teens in the suburbs have.
In the North Jersey suburbs Narcotic Task Force made it s first Ecstasy arrest 1997. The first
significant seizure came a year later; when investigators seized 3,200 pills in hand ream containers
sent from Belgium to a Manhattan bar bouncer who lived in New York City suburbs.

  • 2. Secret Service Agent Training Programs The United States Secret Service started in 1865. At first the Secret Service goal was to combat the counterfeiting currency. The duties of the Secret Service agent expanded after the assassination of President William McKinley in 1901 at Buffalo, New York. Everyone knows that the Secret Service agents will take a bullet for the President, but what they may not know is that Secret Service agents are just as prepared to take a bullet for everyone under their care. The Secret Service agents are charged with tasks of protecting the President, Vice President, and both of their immediate families that are selected by the President or Vice President. In 1988, President Bill Clinton established National Security Event Procedures to help federal agencies prevent terrorist attacks on such events as the Super Bowl or the Academy Awards. In the aftermath of the 9/11, President George W. Bush reorganized the procedures, placing the Secret Service in charge of NSSE Security and the FBI in charge of intelligence and counterterrorism. The Secret Service gave birth to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). When the Department of Justice needed to conduct investigations at a national level, it borrowed agents from the Secret Service, who were both dedicated and highly trained. The problem was that Secret Service agents did not report to the attorney general but to their own director. In 1908, the attorney general hired nine Secret Service agents and commissioned them as Special Agents of the Justice Department. These special agents would be the heart of the Bureau of Investigation, later becoming the Federal Bureau of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Short Story Cabernet Sauvignon With My Brother written by Owen Marshall the ideas of self sufficiency, privacy, revenue and depression are brought forward. Through these issues we can see that the nature of relationships between people are of high importance. New Zealand is a known country where people tend to live self sufficient life styles. This is shown through the story in a number of ways. Raf the main character in the story believes in the two important ideas of privacy and revenue this is seen through the fact that Raf gave up his job of being a lecturer at Lincoln University to purchase a block of land. • 4. Essay on Philiosophy Philiosophy Philosophy is an all important aspect of our lives. It is philosophy that we turn to when have the need to seek out a guiding principle for our lives. Therefore, philosophy holds a prominent place in society and in the world. Basically, everyone is a philosopher, but it takes the creative genius and reasoning of brilliant thinkers to bring about world shattering concepts. Nevertheless, the common man also ruminates about his life and his unique existence to try to find the meaning of his life. Over a life time, a constitution or a theme is developed to discern the ideas that one can readily accept. What one believes is sacred and my own beliefs, I cherish dearly. In this aspect, philosophy allows us to live our lives with confidence, because we know that ideas cannot be taken from us. In the United States, we can feel free to express our opinions and beliefs as long as we do not impinge upon other s rights. This is where a common philosophy has been accepted and adopted by a people. This macrocosmic unity of a nation demonstrates the power of philosophy. In another area, philosophy is vital: religion. Religions are perhaps the largest groups of people who share a common philosophy. Their uniform beliefs cause the members of each religion to philosophize in a common theme in which the religion does not allow any radical deviation. One of philosophy s most important aspects is its flexibility. This flexibility allows the individual to endlessly engender new thoughts and theories. It was this flexibility that encouraged great thinkers to expound their ideas. It is dubious that their ideas can change others , but in each stage of transition and growth there is an opportunity for new philosophies to come in and help us live our lives better. Philosophy grants us the chance to live a fulfilled life, full of actions and thoughts true to ourselves. We find enlightenment in philosophy, from ourselves and others. There is always an inenarrable satisfaction when a new idea comes to us. Such is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Public Health Association Of Australia I would like to suggest further options that can be adopted by the present Government. Nationwide free information sessions (communicative intervention) targeting pregnant women in antenatal clinics and parents in schools should be organised about 2 3 times per year. These sessions would stress on explaining the expected benefits and importance of vaccinations, with question time periods to enable parents to clear out any doubts. Take home informative brochures would also be designed and distributed. Improving access (facilitative intervention) to parents from remote and rural areas is also another good way to ensure immunisation uptake. Another good idea would be to distribute food vouchers (distributive approach) to parents coming from the distant rural areas. We could also focus on monitoring the spread of vaccine preventable diseases, via the ACIR, so as to detect any outbreak at the earliest possible and take the necessary preventive measures (communicative intervention). Policy actors in favour Probable actors in favour of resolving the issue would be the World Health Organisation, the Public Health Association of Australia, members of the Government(in particular those working in the Immunise Australia Program), and health professionals (in particular doctors). These interest groups would have different objectives which could be achieved by supporting issues that lead to the increase in childhood immunisation uptake. • 6. How Graphic Design Has Had On Popular Culture And Consumerism In this summative essay I would like to explore and analyse the influence that Graphic design has had on popular culture and consumerism. Graphic design can be defined as the art and practice of planning and projecting ideas and experiences with visual and textual content. The form of the communication can be physical or virtual, and may include images, words, or graphic forms. (aiga.org) Designers are problem solvers and it is their job to come up with a suitable solution to a problem. They have to find the best suitable means to communicate a particular message. Graphic Designers are at the forefront of advertising and the battle of selling giving the designer even greater responsibility, because of this graphic designers play a big role in consumerism. Consumerism, as a social and economic order and ideology encourages the acquisition of goods and services in ever greater amounts. (wikipedia.org) Society have been gradually made to believe that they can increase their happiness through buying and spending. Consumerism is an international problem, but has existed for many years, people purchasing goods that exceeded those of their basic needs dates way back to the first civilisations, in the eras of ancient Egypt and Rome. A turn in consumerism arrived just before the industrial revolution, people worked long hours and earned low wages, so they didn t have the time or the disposable income for excess spending. White House React To Women s March With Silence Analysis The article of the week White House reacts to Women s March With Silence was basically about how Donald Trump is ignoring all the protests right outside the White House. The article was week was interesting, because of the way reacted to the protests. There were hundreds of thousand of people protesting for Women s March all over the country. What I learned from the article is how hundreds of thousands of people protested against Donald Trump. It surprises me that Trump barely reacted to the protesters right outside the White House. First of all, I think Donald Trump shouldn t have ignored the protests. He addressed the protests with a single tweet Peaceful protests are a hallmark of our democracy. Then, Trump s Press Secretary Sean Spicer planned to make a statement. All Spicer did was scold reporters, and he did not answer any protest question. I researched inaugurations and I found that a inauguration is the transfer of power from the previous president to president elect. Donald Trump s inauguration was on January 20th 2017. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts swore in Donald Trump. Since Trump is our new president, he should at least address the protesters. Besides, the first amendment law states congress shall make no law abridging freedom of speech. I think it is really amazing so many came to protest outside the White House. I didn t think so many people would be protesting. I really think all these protests are great, we are using the first amendment. All these woman marching down to the White to protest against Trump, I am so glad they are doing this. If no one says anything about what they think is wrong, nothing will ever change. • 8. Analysis Of Inherit The Wind Written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, the play Inherit the Wind is a fictitious spin off of the historical Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925, which hotly debated the concept of evolutionism vs. creationism and, in general, a person s right to think. Overall this play shows the growth of many different types of characters. One of these characters would be Rachel Brown, the reverend s daughter, as well as Bert Cates love interest. She is torn between her love for Bert and her loyalty to her father, the Reverend Jeremiah Brown. At the beginning of the play she fears her father and follows only what he says. As the play progresses Rachel becomes more confidant and starts to think for herself. By the end of the play she has created her own identity and completely separates herself from her father. Rachel is first introduced into the play at the very beginning where we see she has gone to the jail to visit her boyfriend Bert Cates. Rachel is very desperate to try and get Bert to just throw himself at the mercy of the court and admit that what he did was wrong. She just wants to be with him. As she enters the jail she speaks to Meeker saying Mr Meeker, don t let my father know I came here , This quote portrays Rachel s character very well. She is shy and lacks confidence, obviously worried of what would happen if her father found out she was visiting Cates, the enemy to her father at this point. • 9. Structural Functionalist Theory Vs Conflict Theory There are many, different sociological theories on how society works in America. Two of the major theories are known as Structural Functionalism Theory and the Conflict Theory. The structural functionalism theory states that society is a system filled with different subsections that provide specific functions in keeping society in order. While the conflict theoryimplies that society is in a state of conflict because of the competition for limited resources. Functionalists conclude that the interconnected systems help maintain social equilibrium in society. Conflict theorists, however, view society as a competition, and social conflicts are due to limited resources, inequality, and power. Both theories provide different perspectives on how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Society is the human body and all the different subsections are the organs that keep the body running smoothly. These subsections are believed to be necessary to keep society functioning properly. Religion, education, family, the political system, and economy are just some of the larger parts of this system that is working to keep society in order. It is believed that in times of social revolution the social equilibrium is lost or becomes unbalanced. The theory of structural functionalism seems to focus on more of the social order and stability in society, while Conflict theory focuses more on social change and conflict itself. Conflict theorist use inequality of social class to explain phenomena like wars, poverty, discrimination, and domestic violence. They say that people of power and wealth are the ones that have attributed to the development of inequality over time. For example, a person of power may suddenly realize their extent of power and do whatever it takes to maintain that power no matter who or what group it affects in the long run, giving conflict theorist all the reason to believe that social class is what can cause conflict. Identity, Authenticity and Survival Essay Formative Writing I : Identity, Authenticity and Survival by Kandru Manibhushan Rao Kwame Anthony Appiah s essay on Identity, Authenticity and Survival is based on Charles Taylor s earlier work on recognition and identity. Though Taylor s references to identity are mostly to collective identity, Appiah s aim is to draw a comparison or even find a connection between individual identity and collective identity. Identity A collective identity, explains Appiah, is the way an individual is recognized based on broad qualities of categorization such as gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. Whereas individual identity is born from personal characteristics such as wit, charm, grace,... Authenticity Authenticity, as described by authors such as Lionel Trilling and Charles Taylor is the idea of living one s life by one s own reference and for one s own self without yearning for recognition or acceptance from the collective or society. However, Appiah points out that the search for authenticity is somewhat a paradoxical one. The search for authenticity, as said, goes as much against the demands for a prescribed social life as it does for the recognition of one s real self. There are two layer for recognition of originality /authenticity: * How a person identifies or recognizes himself among other people. * How a culture bearing group (minority) recognizes itself among a larger group. This leg of Appiah s essay focuses extensively on Trilling s contradictory statements on authenticity. Claiming one s authentic ethnicity, for example, for the need of expressing one s originality in turn proves one s need for social acknowledgement for such originality. Even counterconventionalism requires needs recognition from conventionalist. The problem that arises here is, in order to be original, an individual has to understand convention and being everything that it is not, thus resulting in the individual being not authentic, ... Maya Angelou, born in 1928, was a highly achieved, versatile woman whom is an author, poet, dancer, and actress. In her poems and in life, racism is integrated. This is seen in Angelou s familial and other life experiences, the literary devices seen in Still I Rise, and the extension of the metaphor in Caged Bird. The relevance of this saying to the play is Hamlet and his intent to murder King Claudius. He was very patient and considerate of the death of Claudius, believing he should kill him during a moment of sin, so the soul of Claudius would suffer in the fires of hell. However, Hamlets strive to avenge his father s death lead to a series of deaths, rather than one. His vengeance would eventually result to the killing of an innocent, the suicide of one s daughter, and the vengeance of one s son. Vengeance is the infliction of a punishment in cause of a wrong doing. When Hamletwas... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Laertes found out about his father s death, and returned home immediately. Laertes confronted and accused King Claudius of his father s death. Claudius told Laertes that Hamlet was responsible for everything. Laertes then decides to avenge his father by plotting with Claudius to killing Hamlet. For example, Laertes said So mortal that, but dip a knife in it, where it draws blood no cataplasm so rare, collected from all simples that have virtue under the moon, can save the thing from death that is but scratched withal. (Shakespeare 233) As a result, Laertes goes out of his way to plot Hamlets death by dipping the tip of his sword in poison. Like Hamlet, Laertes shared the same passion of revenge, which ultimately lead to Laertes s downfall. For example, during the duel between Hamlet and Laertes, Hamlet stabs Laertes with his own poisoned sword that causes his death Why as a woodcock to mine own springe, Osric. I am justly killed with mine own treachery. (Shakespeare 279) Therefore, Laertes illustrates that after his father s death Laertes had one goal in mind and that was to avenge his father by killing Hamlet. Unlike structuralists for example Marxists, action theorists are a micro level approach where they find the study of the individual and their interactions within society more important to our understanding. Action theorists are more voluntaristic, they believe that individuals possess agency where they have the ability to be free agents in themselves and in shaping society. Schutz uses this idea and argues it applies to how people share them in society. Using the term typification Schutz, explains how people have shared meanings of particular social contexts. The first factor that I will address is the political failures that assisted in the failure of the interregnum period. The Major Generals were formally commissioned on 11 October 1655 and proclaimed on 31 October. The country was divided into 12 regions, each governed by a Major General who was answerable only to the Lord Protector. While the Major Generals were successful in law enforcement and in curbing security threats to the Protectorate their attempts at reforming the nation s morals varied from region to region according to the zeal of individual officers, but had no lasting effects. Cromwell himself was aware of the unpopularity of military government and seems to have given tacit support to those who opposed its renewal. The system was abandoned early in 1657 under a new constitution: the Humble Petition and Advice. These failures all added greatly to the eventual failure of the interregnum however there were religious factors which added to the failure as well; the Penruddock uprising was a royalist uprising which was able to knock the confidence of the protector although it was dealt with quickly and efficiently by Oliver Cromwell it made him ... Emil Sinclair, the story s protagonist, experiences various adjustments, which in time influence his values and identity. As the story develops, Sinclair acquaints himself to Max Demian, an intellectual being, who further encourages him to acknowledge the human s definite capabilities. Through his interpretation of Cain, Demianimpacts the way in which Sinclair views the world. His understanding of the story contradicts the standard Christian narrative. Seeing as his principal conflict revolves around the distinction of the good and the bad, Sinclair continuously suppresses his feelings towards the controversial aspect of things. Through this, one becomes aware of the depicted duality of Cain and Abel. Furthermore, Sinclair progressively becomes intrigued with the world s divergence which is contradictory to Christianity and its values. The incorporation of Cain and Abel is quite controversial, in terms of society and its standards. All in all, Hesse impeccably interprets Cain s mark by bringing awareness to the characters possessing alternate mindsets. This essay serves to address the interpretation of Cain s mark, as Hesse demonstrates its existence through distinguishing individuals, and its effect on society. • 29. Notes On Antacid Potency And Its Effects On Their... Mary Pyrdol Honors Chemistry P3 Group 3 Topic: Antacid Potency Due Date: 9/30/16 Background Research For the scientists project, they are researching different brands of antacid and their potency to further expand their knowledge of acids, bases, and neutralization. Their problem statement is which liquid antacid brand is most potent? In the scientist s experiment, their independent variable is the brand of liquid antacid. The dependent variable is the amount of drops of antacid it takes for the acid inside the graduated cylinder to become neutralized. The constant is the amount of grape juice and lemon juice (drops) in each graduated cylinder. In a chemical reaction with an acid and base combination, the base neutralizes the acid. Antacids follow this process once entered your body to soothe an upset stomach during heartburn. The scientist s hypothesis is if a brand uses the least amount of average drops to neutralize the acid, then it is most potent. In order to test the hypothesis in the scientist s experiment, they will test different brands of liquid antacid against each other to find out which is most potent in neutralizing lemon juice (acid). They will do this by having 3 different graduated cylinders, each filled with 10 drops of non sugar grape juice (a natural acid base indicator which changes color based upon what the pH of another liquid is when it makes contact with it) and 10 drops of lemon juice (acid). Each brand will have its own graduated cylinder. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Designing And Implementing A Technology Project Essay Designing and implementing a technology project that spans the three different areas of the team will take a considerable amount of time, energy, planning and resources. The system must incorporate a balance between all areas as well as a mechanism that supports the growing demand for output of quality product in a sufficient and efficient manner. Since all three areas (victim correspondence, property acquisitions, and debt management) function under various rules and procedures according to internal governance as well as Federal statutes and policies, the system must be cross functional and multi functional as well as legally compliant. In as much, a lot of consideration is necessary when deciding which product, software, and system to choose. For example, the current system used by the debt management section of the Team uses an Oracle Business product that relies on dashboards to compile, sort, and analyze data. However, the victim correspondence system uses a web based system that relates case summary and detailed information as well as downloads and links to system and case related inquiries and information. Legalities are also to be taken into consideration. Most available products are legally owned by other corporations and are likely leased on long term bases. Because these intellectual products are leased, the corporation still owns the rights to the products and full access or manipulation or alterations to the products is a topic for discussion prior to ... The microsystem encompasses the relationships and interactions a child has with her immediate surroundings (Berk, 2000). The structures that is included in this system includes the family members, school or childcare and community environment. This worldwide scale of sales, purchase and exchange of goods and services unsurprisingly makes it much more difficult to manage, as opposed to a smaller, domestic business. In order to manage the global marketplace, it is necessary to take into consideration the two main factors of globalisation. Globalisation is the progression of the economy through cultural, political and technological integration around the world (Wild Han, 2010). One of its major catalysts is falling barriers to trade, which is the decrease in international boundaries between countries, resulting in easier import and export transactions (Wild Han, 2010). The penultimate research of national culture referring to the study of value dimensions was conducted by Michael Harris Bond. Bond carried out further exploration among a group of students by leading a survey developed by Chinese professors, undertaken in 23 countries. This factor was called long term orientation, which then resolved in becoming the fifth cultural dimension. By 2010 the model was completed after a final two more dimensions were added, named pragmatism and indulgence. The research carried out was conducted by Michael Minkov, who studied modern World Values Survey data taken from population samples nationally. Author Robert R.McCrae supports Hofstede s dimensions by believing that they represent a well validated operationalization of differences between cultures as manifested in dominant value systems (McCrae, 2004). However, as studied on the Geert Hofstede website, only 6 dimensions are needed and necessary in defining culture attributes, resulting in pragmatism being dropped because of overlapping of meanings with long term orientation. Firstly, Hofstede s interpretation of power distance in comparing cultures is that it expresses the amount by which a smaller amount of authoritative members of a civilisation agree and assume that power in a culture is dispersed unequally. ... • 51. Graded Christian Worldview From This Christian s Worldview Part Two Genevieve M. Bogusky Liberty University Abstract The purpose of this essay is to illuminate the various elements of research methods that are used in the discipline of psychology. Aspects that are covered encompass several research designs as reflected through the biblical figures of Adam, Noah, Daniel, and Melzar. In addition, the notion of the program evaluation model of CIPP is also discussed through the personhood of Jethro, whose fame had mainly come through being the father in law of Moses. Comprised within the concluding remarks of this paper, the author not only provides a description of the impact that the analysis of these selected passages has made on her in performing this task in... Noah: Genesis 6:12 22 Sadly, the Bible reports that nearly all of Adam s descendents had corrupted their way upon the earth and lost their true direction (Gen. 6:12 Amplified Bible), and, as a result of this intolerable situation, God told Noah that He had determined to make an end of all flesh [as well as] destroy ... the land ... by [bringing] a flood of waters upon the earth (Gen. 6:13, 17). After the Holy Creator had uttered this apocalyptic intent, He proceeded to provide Noah with instructions on how he was to build an ark, which included information on a list of vital materials (Gen. 6:14), some details on the manner they were to be used (Gen. 6:14), basic blueprints of its structure (Gen. 6:14, 16), and, what measurements the floating vehicle was to have when it was completed, which Scriptures report was to be 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high (Gen. 6:15). In order for Noah to be obedient to His Heavenly Father s plan however, he must have not only known where to get the building supplies that he had need of, as well as, been quite deft in knowing how to use them, he also had to have the knowledge of the ratio scale of measurement so he could perform the task. Though it is evident that Noah was cognizance of other scales of measures, he choose this particular one because it was the only one that had the property of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Lensey Namioka s Use Of Figurative Language Have you ever become embarrassed because you were different? The author Lensey Namioka wrote about a girl who felt left out because her family was unique. Many authors use figurative language to develop themes. Shel Silverstein wrote about how everyone is the same When we turn off the light. Lensey Namioka and Shel Silverstein are two examples. They use similes, metaphors, and hyperboles to develop the theme of tolerance in the short story The All American Slurp, by Lensey Namioka and the poem No Difference by Shel Silverstein. In the short story The All American Slurp, the author, Lensey Namioka uses figurative language to develop the theme of tolerance by stating Our family retreated back to the sofa as if chased by enemy soldiers. This shows that they were unable to tolerate the people staring at them, and had to run away and hide. If they did tolerate the staring, they might of been able to explain that they usually eat celery that way. Then they might of had more delicious food, and been able to talk with everyone else. As well as that, the author stated I squirmed and died at least 50 times. This shows the theme of tolerance because If she were able to stand up to her fears of being embarrassed, she might of had... • 53. The Politics Of Refugee Relief The Civil War in Syria has raged on for over six years now, and over half of the population has fled or died in the war torn country. A constant rain of bombings, bullets and fires that burn down their communities plague the cities of Syria. It is due to this that the large number of fleeing refugees from the Middle East is continuing to grow. This is directly affecting the conditions of the refugeecamps that are willing to house the majority of refugees. Therefore, the effect is growing more unacceptable. It does seem that the camps are able to support these numbers, and some of the asylum seekers are choosing to go elsewhere. The places that many are finding refuge are several host communities within the surrounding territories. Here this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chaos still runs rampant in the towns, rather than being safe havens for those who are seeking shelter. The presence of war is still undeniable, and the presence of gangs is slowly rising within the camps. In a camp in Za atari Jordan, the leaders of gangs are on the rise. In the article The Politics of Refugee Relief. Dissent, the author addresses the issue directly by reviewing them as powerful individuals and organized gangs [that] have imposed their will on sections of the camp, diverting assistance and engaging in criminal activities. (para. 3) . These leaders were once people of importance in their hometowns back in Syria. Therefore the residents of the camps easily let them take on power within their section of the camp. According to Clarke, the gang leaders took part in activities such as run[nning] illegal businesses or smuggling operations (as in Lebanon, Syrians cannot legally work in Jordan), and some deliberately diverted aid and goods to their own constituents in the camp. (para. 4) . Why is it that, in a place that is meant to be refuge for patrons of war, they are still facing the violent actions of gang leaders and illegal activity? The answer is simple and written clearly in the desert sand: these people are trying so desperately to find solitude again, but are being denied the most basic principles of a stable life. The camps are established with good intentions but lack the quality and provisions needed to support the refugees. Such is that follows any other fallen government or territory, anarchy swept over the nation. However, in this case, the anarchists are once respected men in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Motivation The Harry Potter series relates to children and all types of readers, inviting them into the new and different world. The Harry Potter world however parallels the real world much more than many initially think. Students who relate to the world of Harry Potter and have grown up hearing his name along with other favorite characters engage in the story more than with any generic story often used in classrooms. The Harry Potterseries engages the students and encourages learning through a subject in which the students have found interest. Keith McPherson in his article Harry Potter and the Goblet of Motivation from the journal Teacher Librarian discusses the importance of an engaged child while they read, Reading related research finds that reading motivation increases when students are actively engaged with real world reading materials in real world interactions (qtd. Brophy, 1998; Csikszentmihalyi, 1991; Yair, 2000). Children who enjoy the stories they read, develop greater reading comprehension skills and have greater motivation to continue reading and learning. A student who also relates to the characters he or she reads about will discover a connection to reading that only improves the child s desire to read. The desire to read does not decrease with age, but in fact increases. This claim remains especially true when the love of reading develops early. One advantage of the Harry Potter series includes the range of ages that relate to the story and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Increase in Drug Use in the United States Essay The Increase in Drug Use in the United States Since the early 1960 s there have been an alarming increase in drug use in the United States in 1962, four million Americans had tried an illegal drug. By 1999, that number had risen to a staggering 88.7 million, according to the 1999 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse. Illegal drugs, for example, weed, speed, acid, or ecstasy has always been a problem among the teen age group, but most of the time the problems gets even more serious if it involves additive substances such as cocaine. The most common seen illegal drug around teens in the North New Jersey suburbs is Ecstasy, or generally called E . Ecstasy is usually taken by teens in the past for going to clubs in New York City. But today s teens are using this drug far more than past teens have. Teens today are not only using this drug to go out clubbing, but also at house parties in the suburbs. A Federal Survey found that the use of MDMA, which is the abbreviated chemical name for Ecstasy, was up almost 50 percent among high school seniors last year from 1999 in the suburbs of New York City. The reason why these figures are up so much in a years time is the availability and the money that today s teens in the suburbs have.
