The Importance Of Media In Mass Media
There are many different media outlets, and alternatives available to individuals in today s society to
receive information other than what is available in mass media. One alternative media is PBS. PBS is
unlike many programming stations around the nation. Their idea is to treat people like citizens and not
as consumers. On the Public Broadcasting Service website, it describes how their take on the news is
quite different from other stations. They believe that they are America s largest classroom, the Nation
s largest stage, and a trusted window to the world (2016). I am going to describe in the following
paper the background of the Public Broadcasting Service, how their view is different than corporate
giants, and what type of future does a company like this have in the kind of media world we live in
today.
Public Broadcasting Service is a different kind of media outlet than many. PBS different than other
media sectors because it is a private and a nonprofit corporation (2016). The people that make PBS the
company it is today is the people that belong to America s television. The people of America s
television are noncommercial, educational licensees that operate in 350 member stations and serve all
50 states (2016). PBS does not only provide broadcasting to the fifty states in the United States, but
they also inform the people of Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa (2016).
One item that differentiates PBS from other media channels is their strong

The Big Four Eu Institutions And How They Interact With...
It will be argued in detailed throughout this essay the primary roles of the big four EU institutions and
how they interact with each other. The known to us nowadays European Union rests its infrastructure
on the concrete foundations of various institutions. Institutions that as European citizens we ought to
be aware of and how exactly they operate and what their role and functions are.
Currently seven institutions hold dominion over the European Union. Four of them are considered to
be of greater value as those institutions hold the main executive and legislative omnipotent powers
among the European Union: The European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the
European Commission and the European Council.
Initially it will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the grounds of supervisory powers the European parliament scrutinized all of EU institutions,
examining petitions of citizens of the European Union, questioning commission and council, and
lastly observes the elections. The European parliament powers do not stop here as it has a budgetary
role which grants them the right to approve the EU budget in long term.
In a like manner the Council of EU has also labelled itself as a legislative body. Along side with the
EP they co legislate laws for the EU. In accordance with the Article 16 (1) TEU The council shall,
jointly with the European Parliament, exercise legislative and budgetary functions. It shall carry out
policy making and coordinating functions as laid down in the Treaties Generally the council has to
make a voting to approve all commissions legislative acts before they become laws and this happens
in compliance with the European Parliament. Furthermore government ministers from each EU
member state which embody the council meet to adopt, amend laws and coordinate policies of the EU
member states, commonly they represent national interest.
Another key institution that must be mentioned due to its colossal importance in this essay is the
institution of the European Commission which it is supported by many academics on their thesis that
it has the most power of all EU institutions. Even though I can clearly understand the reason

Gun Violence in Missouri
Missouri is an amazing state, full of interesting sights and sounds. There is the towering, metal Saint
Louis Arch. The massive and beautiful Union Station. The large wheat fields, the long flowing
Missouri river, and the large, beautiful Ozarks forests. Missouri, even after these things, like any
states, is not perfect. Unlike some states however, Missouri has many flaws that can very easily be
fixed, but the problem is that Missouri government is not doing much to stop it, one of the biggest
problems being gun control. We are losing so many lives in major shootings at schools. The part that
makes me mad is that after mourning the loss for a bit, we move on, forgetting the tragedy left behind.
Missouri is not being very strict about these gun laws, and it is hurting us in the social look from other
states, and making us seem like a state that doesn t care. We need to take control of these gun laws to
make Missouri a safer place. To begin, Missouri is one of the worst states for gun control laws. The
Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence gave Missouri an F for gun violence, and out of all the states
Missouri ranked 39th out of 50 having enacted few gun violence prevention laws. ( Missouri State
Law Summary. ) The thing is, that Missouri HAS disallowed the permit to purchase, the registration,
and the licensing to owners of all guns. The problem is, is that even though you are not allowed to
carry a rifle or shotgun around, you can carry a handgun around, which is what has

historians refer to the Late Bronze Age in the Middle East as a cosmopolitan era? Historians refer to
the Late Bronze Age in the Middle East as the cosmopolitan era because during this time there was a

and Hittites change the political landscape of Western Asia? The Hittites had changed the political
landscape of Western Asia as they had new technology and were able to create tools and weapons
forged with iron. These economic advances had led the Hittites to change the political landscape of
Western Asia in a geopolitical sphere. The Assyrians had changed the political landscape of Western
Asia through conquest and expansion on economic interests. 3. What impact did Hittite expansion

Environmental School of Thought Essay
According to Mintzberg, the environmental school of thought is a strategy dealing with the forces
outside the organization. Unlike the other schools in his book, Strategy Safari, the environment plays a
central role in the strategy formation process alongside leadership and the organization where the
organization becomes subordinate to the external environment. The environmental school assumptions
are that during the formative period of the organization the company shapes itself in response to the
environment, but after that period is increasingly unable to respond to the environment. Moreover, the
organization long term survival depends on the early choices made during its formative period. Over
time, Mintzberg states, leadership becomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hostility is influenced by competition, by the organization s relationships with unions, government,
and other outside groups as well as by the availability of resources to it. The contingency theory
figured out a set of responses to the four dimensions mostly about structure and later about strategy.
The second view in the environmental school of thought is the Population Ecology view. Followers of
this view believe that the basic structure and character of an organization is fixed shortly after its
creation where early action of managers in areas of investments, equipment, and personnel create
passivity for future actions. The theory is viewing the organizations in terms of their collective
behavior but the organizations individual survival depends on their ability to acquire an adequate
supply and resources. According to the population ecology view, each environment has a finite
amount of resources which they refers to as fixed carrying capacity where in a rapidly growing new
industry, carrying capacity might support most existing organizations but already in the maturity stage,
the carrying capacity may decline and the demand for products will decreases. In such cases,
organizations should hold resources in reserve for future emergencies.
The third view dealing with the environment is the institutional view which refers to the pressures an
organization faces in its

We sure are discussing an interesting topic! Oh, I am sure this must be your forte given your success
in The Big Bang Theory. (Cheers and screaming) So, why do you think stereotyping has been so
common in media? Stereotype is an advantage, especially in media where it can be widely used to

This was well received by the audience due to the stereotype that a nerd would never lose an academic
contest and their failure felt good to the common people. Through the different aspects of the nerd
stereotype, the show became more enriching, drawing even more viewers. I certainly had a great laugh
watching that scene! It definitely struck a chord with me since I am often on the losing side! There
was also this scene where Stan Lee sarcastically remarked to Sheldon to join him at his house for the
Lakers game in which Sheldon deemed as an invitation to his house, resulting in a restraining order on
Sheldon. Now I am sure that this show was made with a hope to impact our society? How have the
impacts been? There have definitely been positive impacts. Physics has always been considered a
boring science subject, however ever since the release of Big Bang Theory, the number of students
that enrol in the A levels has increased and I believe that we had a great part to play in it. (Cue
applause) I feel it has to do with our portrayal of physicists being people that actually do cool stuff

The War against Terror as War against the Constitution Jackson A. Niday, II Abstract: This essay
examines rhetorical dynamics in the 2004 US Supreme Court case Hamdi v. Rumsfeld. News reports
suggested the court split 8 1 or 6 3. However, case texts show substantive disagreements created a 4 2
2 1 split in the court. Moreover, while the justices on the bench split into four camps rather than two,
those camps were not defined along ideological lines. This essay argues that pragmatism, the legal
philosophy that held sway in the case, achieved practical expediency at the expense of judicial and
constitutional coherency. In the end, the court found a majority through neither persuasion nor
principled conviction but, rather, through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of these philosophies has engendered rich schools of thought and many tomes have been devoted
to defining each position, but we can distill working definitions from their governing hermeneutic
principles. Textualism (often called strict constructivism) calls for an interpretation and application of
the law guided by taking the words of a source document literally with strict adherence to etymology
and historical precedent.1 Legal pragmatism, in contrast, adopts a hermeneutics stressing (1) the
importance of context; (2) the lack of foundations; (3) the instrumental nature of law; and (4) the
unavoidable presence of alternate perspectives. 2 In the Hamdi case, Justice O Connor s pragmatism
battled and bested Justice Scalia s textualism. That triumph, however, was a narrow victory, and a
victory riddled with dissonance. It was also a victory that evoked from Scalia one of the more scathing
jeremiads he has issued from the bench. In what follows, I shall analyze the argumentation of Hamdi
in terms of substance and style, and will look at the various opinions issued, along with a detailed
examination of Scalia s lamentation. A decidedly American philosophy, pragmatism seeks what works.
In that pursuit, its focus on the instrumental often privileges expediency over principle. For many
human endeavors, finding expedient resolutions simply

Worldviews Of The Self In The Golden Ass By Apuleius
Throughout this course, we have explored both ancient and contemporary worldviews that have
helped us answer the question: What is the Self ? Apuleius had a very different approach to formulate
an answer to this question then did other contemporary authors which will both be discussed in length.
To begin, Apuleius wrote a novel, The Golden Ass, which demonstrates Roman worldviews of the
self. In the book, he explains a perspective about what makes the self: experience and transformations.
Lucius, the protagonist, goes through many different changes that really shaped his character by the
end of the novel. He underwent multipart transformations that are physical, personality wise, his social
class, his beliefs, and his interests. At the beginning of The Golden Ass, Lucius internal and external
selves do not correlate. Only through his experiences and numerous transformations is he truly able to
be himself because both his internal and external selves match. This worldview is especially present in
ancient Rome because of all the wars this great city took part in that physically transformed Rome s
territory and its citizens. These experiences made Roman men physically strong, wise, powerful and
meant that they were good at warfare since they were able to conquer so many different places like
Carthage, Italy, and Greece. The men that took part in these wars came back as different people after
they had experienced war and all its casualties. There are many implications of

The Gems And Jewellery Sector
The gems and jewellery sector has been one of the fastest growing sectors in India in the past few
years. The sector has gained global popularity because of its talented craftsmen, its superior practices

The Church s Role In Ancient Russian Society And Politics
The church s role in ancient Russian society and politics was also significant since it encountered a
semi pagan society with many barbarian practices and crude customs in the late tenth and early
eleventh centuries. These included a primitive form of marriage in which the wife was abducted or
purchased, polygamy, slavery, blood feuds and many other rituals society would deem cruel and
barbaric today. (131, Engelstein) While the church did not immediately eliminate ingrained habits and
prejudices, it gradually imparted new ideas and attitudes by educating people, changing morals, and
preparing the people to accept new standards. The church opposed barbaric customs such as blood
feuds and, together with secular leaders, attempted to formulate judicial norms and establish
appropriate punishments that fit the nature of and reasons for crimes. In these actions, the church
deeply penetrated the legal and moral foundations of society. This is another example of how the
Christianization of Russia started to shape politics and the culture of Russia specifically from some of
the earliest times of Russian society. (133, Engelstein) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Enemy Release Research Paper
Enemy release is perhaps one of the most elementary forms of reasoning behind why a species has the
potential to become invasive in an introduced environment. The enemy release hypothesis predicts
that an exotic species can become invasive upon it introduction as a result of its escape or release of
specialist herbivores. It also predicts that phenotypic plasticity will be displayed similarly in native

In part, this is explained by the novel weapons hypothesis which predicts that invasive plant species
produce chemicals that are novel to generalists of introduced ranges, requiring adaptive evolution for
invasives to become palatable to generalists (Lankau et al., 2004). It is also generally accepted that
invasives tend to alter the soil composition of their introduced ranges (Zou et al., 2006). In some
instances, it is evident that generalists do not feed on invasives in introduced ranges because they lack
the behavioral adaptations necessary to do so (Lankau et al., 2004). In 2002, a greenhouse study was
performed in LaMarque, Texas where grasshoppers (M. augustipennis) were placed large mesocosms
with Triadica and Celtis (common hackberry) to determine possible behavioral shifts of herbivores
when confined to a single food source (Lankau et al., 2004). In fact, grasshoppers exhibited more
herbivory on the exotic Triadica genotypes when compared to relative consumption of native Celtis
genotypes (Lankau et al., 2004). This study suggests that Triadica sebifera is indeed palatable to
generalist herbivores like grasshoppers in its introduced ranges. Generalists, however, require
selective pressure in order to shift their diets to invasive species like Triadica sebifera (Lankau et al.,
2004). Generalist herbivores display no detrimental effects

Jacqueline Gandara
The Math Autobiography of Jacqueline Gandara Mathematics is the study of the sciences of numbers,
quantities, geometry and forms. ( Mathematics dictionary definition | mathematics defined , 2016) It is
a subject that is simple as well as complex. Over the years I have learned that math is not my cup of
tea. I think I liked it more when I was younger, when it was simple, and easier. I guess you could say
that I liked basic math, like adding, subtracting, and multiplying. Growing up, I actually had no
problem with basic math. It was easier when I was in elementary school. It was until I arrived to
middle school and high school that I realized that math wasn t as simple as I thought it was. Math did

I use math to shop for things at the store, to cook, bake, and to keep track of my expenses. Math will
also be used in the career I have chosen. According to CFNC.org, math is a necessary skill for a career
in Customs and Border Protection, but it is not as important as reading comprehension, writing and
speaking skills. Level 2 math is used in this career and it is most likely not used on a daily basis.
(Corporation, 2016) However, basic math is necessary to get through some of the rules and
regulations. For example, let s say someone attempts to cross the border with 39, 12 oz. cans of beer
and 6, 12 oz. cans of ale. This is legal by law if the person meets the legal drinking age of 21.
However, there is a limit of 40 oz. of liquor, wine or 24, 12 oz. cans or bottles of beer or ale. This
person has passed the limit so, he has to pay a fine of 94 cents for every can that he has gone over. You
have to use your basic math skill to figure out how much money this man owes for bringing extra
liquor. 45 cans (what this guy is bringing) minus 24 (the limit) equals 21 cans. 21 multiplied by $0.94
cents is $19.74. This man owes a total of $19.74 for his extra liquor. (Corporation, 2016) The math
class I plan to take for my major is college Algebra. Even though I probably will not use it in my
career, I have chosen to take it because I am pretty good at it and it is also essential for a bachelor s

Why Is Emily Dickinson A Romantic Poet
Emily Dickinson a Lyrical Poet
Because I could not stop for death, he kindly stopped for me; the carriage held but just ourselves and
immortality (6) is a quote from oneof Emily Dickinson s most famous poems. American poet, Emily
Dickinson, was known for her lyrical poetry who wrote during the American Renaissance era.
Dickinson wrote in the American Renaissance or American Romanticism time period. This era was
called a time of excitement over human possibilities (4). Americans believed that there was good in
people. It wa a time of emotion, spontaneity, and even sincerity. During the Romantic movement,
writers connected back to their roots through inspiration and wisdom in nature (4). That is exactly
what Dickinson did. She used a poetic technique with striking imagery. Dickinson greatly impacted
American romanticism.
On December 10, 1830, a little girl named Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was born in Amherst
Massachusetts. Her parents, Edward Dickinson, who was a member of congress, and Emily Norcross
(6) could have never imagined that their daughter Emily was going to become one of America s
greatest poets. She was not an only child. She had an older brother William Austin, and a younger

My Experience My Learning Experience
My Adventure to Foushee s Mill began on Saturday November 5th, 2017. I had three classmates with
me, their names were Hope, Joel, and Casey. We have been told to go to Foushee s Mill by our
Focused Inquiry professor, the week before, to take in what we experience. This was a definitely a
new experience for me being only a Freshman in college, and changed how I saw my three classmates.
This is what experienced personally on this adventure:
It was a breezy Sunday afternoon, we had all agreed to meet at 3pm near the Atria Bus stop, I had
made my way there from my apartment which was about five minutes away and saw no one around. I
could feel my stomach growling since I had not ate since 9am. I began walking to Canes Chicken

It was like mini waterfalls, the water was smooth sounding the rocks felt smooth, and we sat there

lost, luckily a guy with a walking sticks and hiker bag passed up, we asked him Do you know where
Foushee s Mill is ? , he pointed in a direction and said if we kept walking that way we would find it.
We were almost there when a huge dam like structure was preventing up from getting around because
the water was flowing so strong one of the bridges we needed to walk on was flushed with water and
impossible to walk across. This part of the adventure was so sad because on another bridge was a
memorial plank of a dog the got hit by a train on the train tracks near by. We eventually got the idea to
just go up onto the train tracks and walk around, we then went back down, walked a few more minutes
and we were there Foushee s Mill in our eyes.
When we got there is was like nothing I ever seen before. It wasn t what I expected to see and totally
surprised me. The Mill s structure was tumbling, you could tell it was old. We climbed up and sat on
the stones, taking in our own individual perspectives. My first location I sat I was near the river, I
could see the calming water and hear the smoothing sounds. I saw geese relaxing in the water up
ahead. Looking up I could see the sky half blue and walk pink, it was the perfect spot and I loved it.

The Replication Of DNA In Escherichia Coli
Introduction
Today s issue of Biology: Meselson and Stahl (Vol 4, 1958) includes a groundbreaking development
into further understanding of DNA Replication. On pages 671 682 is an article titled The Replication
of DNA in Escherichia Coli . Meselson and Stahl conducted an experiment to understand how DNA
self replicates by the use of Bacterial transformation to clone parental DNA.
In the article, Meselson and Stahl investigate the distribution between the parental and daughter DNA
molecules. This is achieved by the use of Radio Isotopic labelling. Uniform Isotopic N15 was grown
in E.coli consisting of N14 medium to observe the distribution of N15 DNA macromolecules. Within
the article, the authors also discuss the problems they faced during the investigation and how
significant Watsons and Cricks Double helix suggests how DNA self replicates.
What is DNA?
The discovery of the structure of DNA has always been associated with Watson and Crick. Their
double helix structure, which they developed in 1983, has been used as a model to understand how
DNA self replicates (Karp, 2009). The structure of DNA is made up of covalent bonds between 4
unique nucleotide bases. These bases bind together via complementary base pairing, therefore
allowing Adenine to only bind with Thymine, and Cytosine with Guanine (Penn State, Ebery College
of Science, 2016). The use of covalent bonds makes the structure strongly bound like a zipper.
However, just like a zipper, it can easily open up

Sex Pistols
Around the same time the Sex Pistols had been dropped by EMI in early 1977, CBS, another major
label, signed The Clash. An A R representative Dan Loggins told Jon Savage, it was easier for older,
more experienced record people to contemplate taking on Punk than the contemporaries of Punk in the
record companies because they had seen other trends in music come and go (qtd. 304). Similar to the
EMI deal offered to the Sex Pistols, CBS was not thinking about the implications of signing The Clash
for artistic reasons or to further the band as musicians. Loggins says frankly, The record companies are

values. The private company was run as if it were collectively owned by the workers: everyone had
equal say and equal pay (Reynolds 103 104). Day to day decisions were discussed and weighed by all
involved in the workplace, and the same egalitarian essence was at the heart of contract deals offered
by the label. The company and the artist would agree upon a partnership for one record at a time;
furthermore, Rough Trade would cover costs of recording and promotion, and the profits of the album
would be evenly divided between band and label. Differentiating between the business practices of
majors and indies, Travis describes the Rough Trade business philosophy as one that helped create a
nurturing environment for the bands : It creates the psychological conditions for musicians to do their
best work ... Long term contracts will put a band in debt from recording and touring costs. Then you
have to produce when you re not ready. You have to write songs when you have nothing to say (qtd. in
Reynolds 105). Majors wanted their artists to create a stream of products that would generate income
for the label, and the system used to induce such results was to indenture the artists for a lengthy
period of time by offering, as demonstrated in the EMI Sex Pistols and CBS Clash deals, large

Seven Types Of Radical Honeybees Around The World
From their tremendous hives to their venomous stings to their countless hours of vigorously
pollinating, honeybees are amazing. There are seven types of radical honeybees around the world.1
Humans are responsible for most deaths of these humble creatures. Little do we know that our harmful
actions against honeybees could change the world forever. Honeybees currently reside on every
continent in the world, except for Antarctica.1 Honeybees live in hives and are widely known around
the world for their ingenious production of honey. What honeybees do for their hive is dependent on
their gender; females are workers and males are drones.5 The queen bee is another type of bee along
with the worker bees and the drones, the queen bee is a bit bigger than the others and their is one of
them in each colony.5 The hives are usually created by the bees themselves. In these hives they also
store the contents of honey as well as the honey itself.5 Many beekeepers keep special hives to collect
honey.5
Classification
Honeybees are part of the Kingdom Animalia because they are animals, the Phylum Arthropoda
because they have exoskeletons, the Class Insecta because they are are insets, the Order Hymenoptera
because they are a species of bee, the Family Apidae because they are one of the many species of bees,
and last of all the genus Apis because they are a honeybee.1

An Adventure of the Quantum Universe in Alice in...
The novel, Alice and Quantum Land, by Robert Gilmore is an adventure in the Quantum universe.
Alice, a normal teenage girl, goes through quantum land and understands what quantum is and how it
works. The quantum world is a difficult one to understand, as its nature is one of complex states of
being, natures, principles, notions, and the like. When these principles or concepts are compared with
the macro world, one can find great similarities and even greater dissimilarities between the world
wherein electrons rule, and the world wherein human beings live. In Alice in Quantumland, author
Robert Gilmore converts the original tale of Alice in Wonderland from a world of anthropomorphic

All in all, this idea is one of the more significant ideas in the book.
Moreover, the principle of superposition states that if the world can be in any configuration, any
possible arrangement of particles or fields, and if the world could also be in another configuration,
then the world can also be in a state which is a superposition of the two, where the amount of each
configuration that is in the superposition is specified by a complex number. Superposition is a
principle of quantum theory that describes a challenging concept about the nature and behavior of
matter and forces at the sub atomic level. The principle of superposition claims that while we do not
know what the state of any object is, it is actually in all possible states simultaneously, as long as we
don t look to check. It is the measurement itself that causes the object to be limited to a single
possibility. In the novel, the mechanic mentions to Alice the Schrodinger experiment. This experiment
was analogous to superposition in the macro world. Schrodinger s experiment was to put a cat, flask of
poisonous glass, and a mechanism to break the flask should substance decay in a closed box.
Mechanic then stated that the substance may or may not decay, therefore, according to the rules of
quantum physics you would have a superposition of states, in some of which the decay would have
happened and in others it would not. Of course,

some point in time during the 1960s and 70s, especially after both countries split with Russia, the

main coping mechanism is to retreat from reality. Amanda s role as the forgotten southern belle also
impacts her relationship with her daughter Laura, who suffers from crippling social anxiety and an
inferiority complex as a result of her disability. Aside from the internal and external conflicts which
impact Amanda, Williams s strongly expresses his indictment through his very own character, Tom.
Tom is merely a victim of both societal conflicts and his own guilt caused by his decision to seek

The Negative Effects Of Homework On Students In Elementary...
The Effects of Homework In almost all schools, teachers assign homework assignments to students
starting in elementary school. When students begin to grow older and are faced with more challenging
classes in junior high and high school, the workload begins to pile up. Students are now becoming
more stressed and have anxiety because of the amount of work that is placed on them which is even
taking a toll on their family life. Many students end up completing the assignment in order to just get
credit for it without a regard for learning. But over the years, homework has begun to lose its purpose.
Instead of the students focusing on only completing their homework in order to get good grades, they
should be more focused on learning the material that they are studying. Without truly understanding
the material in the classes that students might be taking, school is essentially a waste of time. The
effects of mass quantities of schoolwork on students that are given by teachers leads students to
underperform in school due to the mental stress and anxiety.
As students begin to move onto other levels of school starting in elementary, they begin to see an
increase in the amount of work they are given. In elementary school, students start to face the problem
of excessive amounts of homework, and this is a problem that has been frequently talked in the past.
Debates over whether or not students should have homework started back in the 19th century. During
this time, most high schools

Differing Views of Male female Relationships in Three Poems
In the three poems we experience three different views of how male female relationships should take

relationships, in La Belle Dame Sans Merci we hear of a relationship where the woman is in total

any relationship whereas in A Woman to Her Lover , the ideas that both men and women should be
equal in relationships are uttered.
In the first stanza of the poem, we can see that the woman examines how women are typically
expected to be by men (as a housewife) the
servant and to bear you children . The very fact that she is expressing these phrases in a critical and
negative manner implies that she has a resents this idea towards this stereotypical view of women. At
the ending of this first stanza, she states; If that be what you ask, O lover I refuse you! The use of the
refrain here, not only points out her hostility, but also shows that she

  • 4. Gun Violence in Missouri Missouri is an amazing state, full of interesting sights and sounds. There is the towering, metal Saint Louis Arch. The massive and beautiful Union Station. The large wheat fields, the long flowing Missouri river, and the large, beautiful Ozarks forests. Missouri, even after these things, like any states, is not perfect. Unlike some states however, Missouri has many flaws that can very easily be fixed, but the problem is that Missouri government is not doing much to stop it, one of the biggest problems being gun control. We are losing so many lives in major shootings at schools. The part that makes me mad is that after mourning the loss for a bit, we move on, forgetting the tragedy left behind. Missouri is not being very strict about these gun laws, and it is hurting us in the social look from other states, and making us seem like a state that doesn t care. We need to take control of these gun laws to make Missouri a safer place. To begin, Missouri is one of the worst states for gun control laws. The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence gave Missouri an F for gun violence, and out of all the states Missouri ranked 39th out of 50 having enacted few gun violence prevention laws. ( Missouri State Law Summary. ) The thing is, that Missouri HAS disallowed the permit to purchase, the registration, and the licensing to owners of all guns. Unlike the other schools in his book, Strategy Safari, the environment plays a central role in the strategy formation process alongside leadership and the organization where the organization becomes subordinate to the external environment. The environmental school assumptions are that during the formative period of the organization the company shapes itself in response to the environment, but after that period is increasingly unable to respond to the environment. The second view in the environmental school of thought is the Population Ecology view. Followers of this view believe that the basic structure and character of an organization is fixed shortly after its creation where early action of managers in areas of investments, equipment, and personnel create passivity for future actions. The theory is viewing the organizations in terms of their collective behavior but the organizations individual survival depends on their ability to acquire an adequate supply and resources. According to the population ecology view, each environment has a finite amount of resources which they refers to as fixed carrying capacity where in a rapidly growing new industry, carrying capacity might support most existing organizations but already in the maturity stage, the carrying capacity may decline and the demand for products will decreases. Moreover, while the justices on the bench split into four camps rather than two, those camps were not defined along ideological lines. Each of these philosophies has engendered rich schools of thought and many tomes have been devoted to defining each position, but we can distill working definitions from their governing hermeneutic principles. Textualism (often called strict constructivism) calls for an interpretation and application of the law guided by taking the words of a source document literally with strict adherence to etymology and historical precedent.1 Legal pragmatism, in contrast, adopts a hermeneutics stressing (1) the importance of context; (2) the lack of foundations; (3) the instrumental nature of law; and (4) the unavoidable presence of alternate perspectives. 2 In the Hamdi case, Justice O Connor s pragmatism battled and bested Justice Scalia s textualism. That triumph, however, was a narrow victory, and a victory riddled with dissonance. It was also a victory that evoked from Scalia one of the more scathing jeremiads he has issued from the bench. In what follows, I shall analyze the argumentation of Hamdi in terms of substance and style, and will look at the various opinions issued, along with a detailed examination of Scalia s lamentation. Worldviews Of The Self In The Golden Ass By Apuleius Throughout this course, we have explored both ancient and contemporary worldviews that have helped us answer the question: What is the Self ? Apuleius had a very different approach to formulate an answer to this question then did other contemporary authors which will both be discussed in length. To begin, Apuleius wrote a novel, The Golden Ass, which demonstrates Roman worldviews of the self. In the book, he explains a perspective about what makes the self: experience and transformations. Lucius, the protagonist, goes through many different changes that really shaped his character by the end of the novel. He underwent multipart transformations that are physical, personality wise, his social class, his beliefs, and his interests. At the beginning of The Golden Ass, Lucius internal and external selves do not correlate. Only through his experiences and numerous transformations is he truly able to be himself because both his internal and external selves match. This worldview is especially present in ancient Rome because of all the wars this great city took part in that physically transformed Rome s territory and its citizens. These experiences made Roman men physically strong, wise, powerful and meant that they were good at warfare since they were able to conquer so many different places like Carthage, Italy, and Greece. The men that took part in these wars came back as different people after they had experienced war and all its casualties. There are many implications of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Church s Role In Ancient Russian Society And Politics The church s role in ancient Russian society and politics was also significant since it encountered a semi pagan society with many barbarian practices and crude customs in the late tenth and early eleventh centuries. These included a primitive form of marriage in which the wife was abducted or purchased, polygamy, slavery, blood feuds and many other rituals society would deem cruel and barbaric today. (131, Engelstein) While the church did not immediately eliminate ingrained habits and prejudices, it gradually imparted new ideas and attitudes by educating people, changing morals, and preparing the people to accept new standards. The church opposed barbaric customs such as blood feuds and, together with secular leaders, attempted to formulate judicial norms and establish appropriate punishments that fit the nature of and reasons for crimes. The enemy release hypothesis predicts that an exotic species can become invasive upon it introduction as a result of its escape or release of specialist herbivores. It also predicts that phenotypic plasticity will be displayed similarly in native and invasive ecotypes and that both ecotypes will behave and respond alike in common environments (Rogers and Siemann, 2005). This prediction is derived from the understanding that both native and invasive ecotypes have similar genetic contribution to tissue type and quality (Rogers and Siemann, 2005). Assuming that specialist herbivores are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In part, this is explained by the novel weapons hypothesis which predicts that invasive plant species produce chemicals that are novel to generalists of introduced ranges, requiring adaptive evolution for invasives to become palatable to generalists (Lankau et al., 2004). It is also generally accepted that invasives tend to alter the soil composition of their introduced ranges (Zou et al., 2006). In some instances, it is evident that generalists do not feed on invasives in introduced ranges because they lack the behavioral adaptations necessary to do so (Lankau et al., 2004). In 2002, a greenhouse study was performed in LaMarque, Texas where grasshoppers (M. augustipennis) were placed large mesocosms with Triadica and Celtis (common hackberry) to determine possible behavioral shifts of herbivores when confined to a single food source (Lankau et al., 2004). In fact, grasshoppers exhibited more herbivory on the exotic Triadica genotypes when compared to relative consumption of native Celtis genotypes (Lankau et al., 2004). This study suggests that Triadica sebifera is indeed palatable to generalist herbivores like grasshoppers in its introduced ranges. This was a definitely a new experience for me being only a Freshman in college, and changed how I saw my three classmates. This is what experienced personally on this adventure: It was a breezy Sunday afternoon, we had all agreed to meet at 3pm near the Atria Bus stop, I had made my way there from my apartment which was about five minutes away and saw no one around. We were almost there when a huge dam like structure was preventing up from getting around because the water was flowing so strong one of the bridges we needed to walk on was flushed with water and impossible to walk across. This part of the adventure was so sad because on another bridge was a memorial plank of a dog the got hit by a train on the train tracks near by. The Replication Of DNA In Escherichia Coli Introduction Today s issue of Biology: Meselson and Stahl (Vol 4, 1958) includes a groundbreaking development into further understanding of DNA Replication. On pages 671 682 is an article titled The Replication of DNA in Escherichia Coli . Meselson and Stahl conducted an experiment to understand how DNA self replicates by the use of Bacterial transformation to clone parental DNA. In the article, Meselson and Stahl investigate the distribution between the parental and daughter DNA molecules. This is achieved by the use of Radio Isotopic labelling. Uniform Isotopic N15 was grown in E.coli consisting of N14 medium to observe the distribution of N15 DNA macromolecules. Within the article, the authors also discuss the problems they faced during the investigation and how significant Watsons and Cricks Double helix suggests how DNA self replicates. What is DNA? The discovery of the structure of DNA has always been associated with Watson and Crick. Their double helix structure, which they developed in 1983, has been used as a model to understand how DNA self replicates (Karp, 2009). The structure of DNA is made up of covalent bonds between 4 unique nucleotide bases. These bases bind together via complementary base pairing, therefore allowing Adenine to only bind with Thymine, and Cytosine with Guanine (Penn State, Ebery College of Science, 2016). The use of covalent bonds makes the structure strongly bound like a zipper. However, just like a zipper, it can easily open up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are seven types of radical honeybees around the world.1 Humans are responsible for most deaths of these humble creatures. The principle of superposition claims that while we do not know what the state of any object is, it is actually in all possible states simultaneously, as long as we don t look to check. It is the measurement itself that causes the object to be limited to a single possibility. In the novel, the mechanic mentions to Alice the Schrodinger experiment. Schrodinger s experiment was to put a cat, flask of poisonous glass, and a mechanism to break the flask should substance decay in a closed box. When students begin to grow older and are faced with more challenging classes in junior high and high school, the workload begins to pile up. Students are now becoming more stressed and have anxiety because of the amount of work that is placed on them which is even taking a toll on their family life. Many students end up completing the assignment in order to just get credit for it without a regard for learning. But over the years, homework has begun to lose its purpose. Instead of the students focusing on only completing their homework in order to get good grades, they should be more focused on learning the material that they are studying. Without truly understanding the material in the classes that students might be taking, school is essentially a waste of time. The effects of mass quantities of schoolwork on students that are given by teachers leads students to underperform in school due to the mental stress and anxiety.
