How I Learned From The Class Writings
As I look back to when I first started taking this class I began to think about the things that I have
learned. It had been quite a long time since I wrote anything other than basic notes or letters before I
started taking the EN100 course. In fact, I have never been much of a writer even when writing about
subjects I enjoy, so when the Justice was brought up as the main topic of the papers that we would be
writing over the semester I was less then pleased. Now that my misgivings as a writer and my distain
for the overall subject matter are out in the open, let s get back to the subject at hand. What have I
learned in EN100 or more specifically, what have I learned from each of the papers I wrote on justice
and from the in class writings? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing I learned from that first paper is that it is not acceptable to forsake the freedoms of some
in order to better the majority. John Rawls, wrote in his book, A Theory of Justice that Each person
possesses an inviolability founded on justice that even the welfare of society as a whole cannot
override. For this reason justice denies that the loss of freedoms for some is made right by the greater
good shared by others. So not only should justice be upheld for all people, regardless of their situation,
but that these rights should not be overlooked in order to merely appease a majority.
My second paper entitled Unjust American Justice showcased an article by Talia Jane called 5 ways
America s Justice System Is Designed to Screw You. I learned from writing this paper is that someone
cannot simply use facts that are based on a single persons experience if that person does not allow
people to check their facts by withholding the name of their source. When writing one should always
try to state facts, not opinion or bias experience. When reading any article

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Audio Watermarking
Abstract: With the increasing usage of digital multimedia, the protection of intellectual property rights
problem has become a very important issue. Digital watermarking is now drawing attention as a new
method of protecting multimedia content from unauthorized copying. Over the past two decades,
many digital watermarking algorithms have been developed, each with its own advantages and
disadvantages. The main aim of this paper is to present a survey report of recently done work in audio
watermarking fields.
INTRODUCTION
Technological advances in computing, communications, consumer electronics and their convergence
have resulted in phenomenal increases in the amount of digital content that is being generated, stored,
distributed, and consumed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
LITERATURE SURVEY
The audio watermarking has been a hot research area for protection of digital sound content. Many
researchers have suggested algorithms for that. Some has also done a good survey of previous work
done. That helps fellow researchers to work forward. In [1] Komal et. al presented a survey report on
various audio watermarking algorithms. They divided the work into three main categories: spread
spectrum algorithm, amplitude modification, replica method, dither watermarking and self marking
method. As per the author the spread spectrum method has the problem of synchronisation and time
consumed is higher whereas replica is good for synchronisation but echo handling is worst. Amplitude
modification method needs large channel capacity and introduces noise too. Overall self marking
method is good for synchronisation and robust for watermarking. Ali Al Haj [2] in his paper proposed
solution for shortcomings of spread spectrum method is overcome by combining it with singular value
decomposition for high rate of robustness. To make it more robust the watermark bits are inserted
diagonally into wavelet transformed input audio signals and a controlling gain parameter is
introduced. This method also

Virginia Woolf s The Death Of The Moth
Virginia Woolf was an extraordinary author that was born in London, 1882. Woolf wrote many novels
during her lifetime such as Mrs. Dalloway and The Waves. She was considered one of the greatest
twentieth century writers that wrote non fiction. Virginia Woolf committed suicide in 1941 at age fifty
nine due to severe depression.
One of Virginia Woolf s most well known novels The Death of the Moth is very unique. Woolf was
distracted by a moth that was fluttering around her house and explained how it failed at its life purpose
then died. I think she was an incredible author because so many thoughts and ideas flew through her
head about one single moth and wrote them down on paper documenting its every move and meaning
she thought was behind

Teaching Compassion in a World Were Compassion Is Lost
According to Arthur Schopenhauer compassion is the basis of all morality. This means that principles
concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior (Google dictionary,
morality) are developed by the sympathetic pity and concern for the suffering or misfortune of others.
(Google dictionary, compassion) In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird we generally see this through the
character Atticus Finch. Atticus demonstrates this when he pardons Bob Ewell s threats toward the
Finch family, accepts the Tom Robinson case, though it is headed for failure and lastly Atticus
examples compassion when he acts neighborly to Mrs. Dubose despite her insults towards him. As
you will see, morally correct decisions come not from law or society, but from within.
Bob Ewell, a man who is offensive, ignorant and lazy poses threats on Atticus Finch, an intellectual,
wise, empathetic man and his family. The threats are dangerous and serious, however, no matter what
they are or how scared his children grow nothing seems to faze him. Atticus is trying to teach his
children to put themselves in other people s situations before coming to harsh conclusions:
Jem, see if you can stand in Bob Ewell s shoes a minute. I destroyed his last shred of credibility at that
trial, if he had any to begin with. The man had to have some kind of comeback, his kind always does.
So if spitting in my face and threatening me saved Mayella Ewell one extra beating, that s something I

Wizard Of Oz
The Wonderfully written and film called the Wizard of Oz was first published in Chicago in 1900. The
author, L. Frank Baum, was the editor of a South Dakota newspaper and who also supported William
Jennings Bryan who happened to win three times, uneventfully, as a U.S. Presidential candidate for
the Democratic Party. The main concern of Baum and Bryan was the nature of the money supply in
the United States, and in the Mid Western States in their concern. In America during the 1890s, in
Britain, there had been a severe depression. Several businesses had gone bankrupt, all farmers were
forced to sell up all they had owned, factories closed, and workers made the unemployed list. Baum
and Bryan wanted money to be based on silver, and as for silver, ... Show more content on

Next, Dorothy encounters a Tin Woodsman, representing the industrial workers in the Mid West,
rusted as solid in the factories of the 1890s depression, and who have lost all of heir sense of
compassion. As well, a spell cast upon himself by the Wicked Witch of the East meant that every time
he swung his axe, he chopped off a bit of himself. Then as they growing party continues, they
encounter a Cowardly Lion, representing the politicians. These politicians have the power, through the
power of the one an only Congress and of course the Constitution, to therefore confront the Wicked
Witches, of course representing the banks, but sadly they lack the courage to do the confronting.
Dorothy is able to motivate these three great forces and lead them all towards the Emerald City, and an

The Thematic Concept Of Fear In Beowulf And Gilgamesh
Overall Introduction:
For years, literature has been used to teach us important morals and life lessons. These life lessons are
often universal in nature. This means that no matter what age, gender, or status a person is, anyone can
relate to the theme being discussed. For this reason they are called universal themes. Non universal
themes are themes that are specific to the story being told, but are not considered universally
understood. The following demonstrates that Beowulf and Gilgamesh both have the same universal
thematic statement concept of fear in addition to a multiple non universal themes throughout them.
Thematic Discussion When looking at the universal theme Gilgamesh and Beowulf, the thematic
concept is fear. The thematic statement for this universal theme would be: In literature, as well as in
real life, man often my come up against someone or something he fears and then must decide whether
or not they will act in cowardly or courageous way . The thematic concept for Beowulf that is a non
universal theme would be political generosity. The thematic statement would be that: In Beowulf, one
can see how generosity and hospitality were considered very important to the Danish culture.
However, this not considered a universal theme, because although generosity and hospitality may have
been considered very important attributes at the time Beowulf was written, not every culture of the
time considered these nicetes to be of the highest importance. The thematic

Theistic Evolution
Have you ever wondered how the universe came into existence? There are several different theories or
views on the origin of the world. Three of these views would include but not limited to: theistic
evolution, the big bang theory, and the view called abiogenesis.
Theistic Evolution is the belief that there is a God but he is not directly involved with the world. This
is the belief that the world was not created in one moment, without a conscious thought or occurred
naturally on its own. Theistic evolutionists believe the earth was created over a period of time. They
also believe that God only helped the process of creation. They don t believe he created the earth or
did any of the heavy lifting. The people who believe in this way are typically those who want a
religion that looks at life from a scientific point of view. This person in particular blames God for the
darkness in this world. They believe that God is just sitting back, watching as the world turns ... Show

Those who actively believe this theory, think that the universe has a beginning. They believe the
universe has not always existed. They believe that one moment there was nothing and another moment
the universe existed. What is currently known as the Big Bang Theory was evolved from the standard
theory. The standard theory says that the universe came into existence as singularity around 13.7
billion years ago (Big Bang Theory). Singularities are believed to have originated at the heart of black
holes. If one can see a black hole, one is too close. Therefore will be sucked into the black hole. Due
to the powerful force of the black hole s gravitational pull. A singularity is defined as interminably
small in size, immensely hot in temperature and extremely dense. Those who believe in the Big Bang
Theory believe the universe expanded and cooled, going from very, very small and very, very hot, to
the size and temperature of our current universe (Big Bang

The Black Panther Party
The Black Panthers
The Black Panther Party is a self defense, African American revolutionary party. This party was
founded in Oakland, California by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale during the 1960 s. This party was
dedicated to combating white oppression, and did so by the use of both peaceful and violent actions.
Looking back at the history of the Black Panthers, it can be clearly seen that the peaceful idea of
equality for all spawned this group and their violent actions for the main reason that they were willing
to do anything to defend their beliefs.
One of the greatest reasons for the violent actions of the party, should be credited to the co founder
named Huey Newton. Huey Newton was a rebellious individual who was suspected of committing
many crimes. As minister of defense within the party, Huey was seen as a leader to the members of the
organization. In an interview with Newton, he made clear what he wanted the party to stand for, and
what they needed to do to achieve this. In an excerpt from the interview transcript, he says that there
are two kinds of nationalism, revolutionary and reactionary nationalism. Revolutionary nationalism is
first dependent upon a People s revolution with the end goal being the people in power... If you are a
reactionary nationalist you are not a socialist and your end goal is the oppression of the people.
(Newton 1). From this transcript, it can be inferred what kind of nationalism Huey wants the party to
follow. He wants the people to gain power through the use of violence And extremism. As the
interview continues, Huey states the views of the Black Panther Party by saying The Black Panther
Party, which is a revolutionary group of black people, realizes that we have an identity. We have to
realize our black heritage in order to give us strength to move on and progress (Newton 1). By saying
this, Huey is announcing to the world that the Black Panthers are going to cause a dramatic change,
and implies that they will do whatever is necessary as long as they have the strength. The cause for
violence from peaceful ideas is largely due to the leadership. The minister of Education George
Murray made many speeches that supported the violent actions, and encouraged them. Within

Pros And Cons Of Space Race
Do We Need Another Space Race? The possibility of a second space race has grown stronger than
ever recently. After the launch of the most affordable and the second most powerful rocket of all time,
the Falcon Heavy by SpaceX, the subject has been given new life. Following the successful launch,
Elon Musk, the head of SpaceX, stated that he wants to start a second space race. Already, his wish
has started coming true. After only a week after the first launch, many other companies have already
stated their own plans for rocket launches and development. However, throughout all the excitement
and speculations, people are forgetting to ask an important question: do we even need another space
race? The original space race took place from the estimated years of 1957 all the way through 1975,
starting with the launch of the first man made satellite, the Sputnik I, and ending with the Apollo
Soyuz mission, which contained a Soviet cosmonaut and an American astronaut shaking hands in
outer space, closing off the space race with a rather symbolic ending. During the space race, the
United States and the Soviet Union, who were the strongest nations in the world at the time, both
competed to make the most scientific and technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a few downsides scattered around that are either entirely unavoidable or just simply need to
be worked out. The biggest problem that would most likely form is the increased amount of pollution
that would result from a higher launch rate for rockets and other space fairing vehicles. The Falcon
Heavy rocket used around 970,034 pounds of fuel during the test flight from February of 2018.
SpaceX also plans on launching another rocket every two weeks sometime in the future, which would
unfortunately cause major environmental damage unless a new, less damaging fuel type or more
efficient propulsion method could be developed, or if SpaceX would change their plans to be a little

The Assassination Of Mother Teresa
It was September the 10th, 1964 and World war 2 had only just come to a conclusion. Mother Teresa
sat on a piping hot train, on a hot summers day in Calcutta. She tried taking up as little space as
possible to avoid being crowded which she was to a great extent and deeply swelter. She was on a
train from Calcutta to the Himalayan foothills for a retreat. On this train ride Christ spoke to Mother
Teresa. She referred to this as her second calling and in her words it was a vocation to give up, even at
Loreto where I was very happy, to go out into the streets to serve . I want Indian Nuns, Missionaries of
Charity, who would be my fire of love amongst the poor, the sick, the dying and the little children, she
heard Christ say to her on the train in those very words. You are I know the most incapable person
weak and sinful but just because you are that I want to use you for my glory. Wilt thou refuse? . A
sensation of happiness rushed through her, even though she had been called weak she was honoured.
She was very quick to share her vision with her supporters, friends and members of the Loreto sisters
that she worked with. She was questioned about her call, and all the intentions and aims she had for
doing it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It took much time, and patience. After nearly a year and a half of pleading, in January 1948 she finally
received approval from the local Archbishop at the time: Ferdinand Périer to be able to complete what

training, she left for her journey for the first time into Calcutta s slums with no more specific goal than
to aid the unwanted, the unloved, the uncared

My Attitudes Towards The Elderly
Society as whole has many false beliefs and preconceived notions about the aging population. I myself
have harboured dozens of them throughout my lifetime. However, there are a select few that have
stood the test of time as they continue to guide my attitudes towards the elderly. Though one of the
oldest stereotypes in the book, I unfortunately see the elderly as being a generally unhappy (grumpy)
group. I rationalize to myself that they are this way due to deteriorating health, and also because they
are generally unpleased with where life has taken them. I also feel that as a result, many elderly tend
to disengage themselves from society, preferring to live quiet lives in solitude. And due to their self
imposed exiles from the judging eyes of the world, they take little pride in their aesthetic appearance.
So in an endeavor to examine the impact of my perceived beliefs about others, I interviewed my
mother to verify whether or not my currently held beliefs carried any weight.
The Interview
Me: What is your current age?
Mom: 59
Me: Does the thought of aging worry you?
Mom: Aging worries me. I know that as we age, no matter how much we take good care of ourselves,
we are going to get sick. I m scared of getting sick and being a burden to my kids. And also, I m not
ready to die. I want to see that all my kids and my only grandchild to have a stable life.
Me: How would you say aging has affected you both physically and mentally?
Mom: I noticed that I get tired

Analysis Of Fences By August Wilson
The Future is in Your Hands.
Children grow up naturally emulating the adults around them, for most it is their mother and father,
this is natural and typically a positive thing. There are times, however, when the people that children
emulate are not the best examples society has to offer. In the play Fences Cory looks up to his dad
when it comes to sports. However, by the end of the play the reader starts to notice that Troy is not the
man to look up to. The plot in Fences by August Wilson is centered around an African American
family that looks at the world a little differently by that I mean when Troy was young people believed
blacks shouldn t be able to do the things whites can. People were rude and outspoken about how they
felt when it came to sharing public things with blacks. Now Troy s sons are living in a world that has
evolved and is not as racist, the boys can go out and achieve their dreams, even if they are African
American it may be difficult but is still achievable. Because of the change in the way of life there has
been a conflict between the two boys and their father. Troy may realize that things are different now,
but that doesn t change the fact that it is hard for him to let go of the past. Because Troy was unable to
play baseball based on his race, he believes Cory shouldn t be able to go on and play college football.
This raises a big question, is Troy being unfair or is he trying to look out for his son? The main theme
throughout the play Fences is

John R. Bisland Research Paper
John and Fannie are still property owners and presumably still at Aragon. John R. Bisland is listed as a
Manufacturer of Sugar in the US IRS Tax Assessment List for Division 21, dated January 1867.
William Alexander Bisland left Hope Farm and was at Mount Repose in Natchez. The 1870 Census of
Natchez, Adams County, Mississippi shows William A., age 43, and family living with his mother,
Mary L.L. Bisland; his sister, Lenora, and several other family members. The next entry on this census
is another sister, Jane Lambdin and her family. The 1870 Census of Terrebonne lists Thomas, age 35;
Margaret, age 30; children: Mary (known as Mollie), age 11; Lydia (Elizabeth perhaps reported as
Lizzy), age 9; Thomas, age 6; Lensin (Lenox), age 2; and Margaret, age 1. Thomas is listed as a
Farmer. Note that Guy is not reported in this listing. There is no further mention of Guy other than the
above referenced letters, and it is presumed that he died as an infant between 1862 and 1864.24, 32

Analysis Of Always-On By Sherry Turkle
In today s world of massive interconnectivity, it is often seen that people lose the physical connection
aspect of necessary interactions. Humans are social creatures, thus restricting ourselves to
communicating through Facebook, Instagram, or whatever medium is convenient at the time becomes
detrimental the health and well being we try to cultivate and maintain. In other words, with the many
successes and necessities that interconnectivity has provided humanity, there are just as many pitfalls
and problems.
The concept of loneliness and emotional distancing/segregation is proposed in Sherry Turkle s
writings on the Always On persona. Even without Turkle s insight, it becomes clear that by hiding

that humans cannot perform unaided by such systems to extend human capacities . Personally, I do not
think that the extension of human capacity serves to harm humans; what does harm humans, in the
context of Kline s discussion, is the specific utilization of the technology has caused humans harm. In
other words, the technology we have now is far superior to the technology we had before, and as a
result, we as humans can do so much more than we could in prior years. With the trend towards an
increasingly connected age, the harm lies in the over reliance on the technology. This harm is
presented as a deterioration of face to face communication and the skills required for that. I do not
believe that Kline s discussion was limited, because Kline distinctly states that: Even if a single human
is using a musical instrument, there is the need for knowledge of music and ingrained neuromuscular
skills, from long practice, to make even adequate music. Kline s position underscores the notion of
properly utilizing the technology. The fact that humans have developed an ability to share ideas
around the world in a fraction of a second is remarkable, but the way that that ability is used, can

1984 By George Orwell Essay On Privacy
Privacy issues have been an ongoing problem in our world for a long time now, and recently it has
been even worse with all the new technology that has come out in the past few decades. In 1984
written by George Orwell, privacy is one of the main issues of the entire plot. All of the people were
watched through telescreens, which could never be shut off. Everyone is forced to live out in the open
under the view of the government, and their words are very closely listened to. If anyone breaks the
rules of the government or tries to live with privacy they are either punished or killed. Although our
world is not that extreme when it comes to an invasion of privacy, we are definitely not living in a
world where we can keep everything a secret. English author George Orwell wrote his novel 1984 in
the years following World War II. The book envisions a society dominated by a totalitarian
government, known as Big Brother, that monitors peoples every move through television like screens
in homes, offices, and businesses. Citizens have no privacy and expect none as ubiquitous posters

Benedict Arnold
The name Benedict Arnold has become a synonym for a traitor to one s country. In the first years of
the American Revolution, however, Arnold was a brilliant and dashing general, highly respected for
his service to the patriot cause (see Revolution, American).
Benedict Arnold was born on Jan. 14, 1741, in Norwich, Conn. His father,
Benedict, was a well to do landowner. His mother was Hannah King Waterman Arnold.
While a boy, young Arnold twice ran away to join the colonial troops fighting in the French and Indian

Benedict Arnold was born on Jan. 14, 1741, in Norwich, Conn. He was a very daring boy. He once ran
on a millwheel with another kid. He was also known to love fireworks and once was caught lighting a
jug of gunpowder that would have resulted in a big explosion. When he was a little older (about 17),
Arnold twice ran away to join the colonial troops fighting in the French and Indian War.
When he was 21 he moved to New Haven. In time he became a prosperous merchant and a captain in
the Connecticut militia. He married Margaret Mansfield in 1767.
They had three sons.
Arnold played a gallant part in the American Revolution and became a major general in 1777. His
wife had died in 1775 and early in 1779 he married Margaret
Shippen, by whom he had four sons and one daughter. Arnold was not careful with his money and
soon found himself hard up for cash. It was because of this that he began his treasonable activities.

Evaluation of Baumol s Model
Introduction Generally in business, there is a trade off between selling many units at a low price and
selling only a few units at a high price. There are different managerial models in a firm embodying
different assumptions like the Profit Maximization Model which is a traditional model, the Marris
Model, the Williamson Model and the Baumol Model. This write up will focus on understanding

In this respect, certain characteristics are identifiable about the internal and external processes
involved for organizations within such markets. Baumol recognizes that since it is large organizations
that are most likely to be competitors within an oligopoly, then the chains of control and decision
making are likely to be elongated. It is therefore considered that more likely that it will take longer to
arrive at and implement decisions within such organizations than within smaller competitors. Within
the market, it is claimed that there is tacit collusion between organizations to maintain the status quo.
These incumbents, once the oligopoly has settled down into an equilibrium position, are able to enjoy
a quiet life and split the profits between them. Additionally, there may be a general lack of interest on
the part of organizations to compete in their markets unless actions are undertaken by others to upset
the current situation. Other justifications for the sales revenue maximization model include: The
imposition of a minimum profit constraint on management by shareholders ensures that their concerns
are met, while it would be more difficult to set and measure a maximum requirement. Increasing level

movie revolves around the storyline of the Native American tribe the Mohicans. The main characters,
both in the movie and the novel are Hawkeye, who is adopted into the Mohican tribe; Chingachgook,
Hawkeye s adoptive father; and Uncas, Hawkeye s adoptive brother. Chingach gook and his son
Uncas carry the last drops of the Mohican bloodline. The storyline takes place during the seven years
war between the French and British. In the movie, it romanticizes the elements of war and race
relations in eighteenth century America. The Mohicans and Hawkeye attempt to save the children of a
British colonel, but are met with conflict with Magua of the Huron tribe. Magua, in turn, tries to kill
the Mohicans and steal the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These melodies help compliment scenes like running through the forest, and the cli matic battle
between Hawkeye and the Huron tribe. The producers and director of the movie at tempted to keep the
imagery from the book and the film alike. Through the film, enormous trees, mysterious forests,
waterfalls, and sweeping landscapes can be seen. The film made a better presentation of imagery than
the novel given that they have more graphics and imagery at their disposal to use. The landscape plays
a significant role in the novel and the film. The landscape and nature help define characters like
Hawkeye, who are seen to be one with the forest. How ever, Major Hayward is unfamiliar with the
terrain around him. It makes the audience see Major Hayward as an incompetent leader. The film and
book allow for the intersecting of races, even though it was against cultural norms. For example, white

Compare And Contrast Classical And Classical Macroeconomics
Classical versus Keynesian Macroeconomics

Macroeconomics
Professor Woldie
(Written Assignment: Week 2)
Brief:
Compare Keynesian and classical macroeconomic thought, discussing the Keynesian explanation of
prolonged recessionary and inflationary gaps as well as the Keynesian approach to correcting these
problems.
One of the many wonders of the internet is that it is possible to directly access and easily search the
major works of David Ricardo and John Maynard Keynes, rather than just reading what later thinkers
have read into them. Doing this emphasises the point that they are not the respective champions of
classical macroeconomics and keynesian macroeconomics , engaged in a live debate as to whose

There are mass trends that act as laws, irrespective of an individual actor or a single government. This
can be seen as an analogy to physical laws. Gravity always acts to make things fall downwards. Goods
get more expensive when demand rises for scarce items. Economic man always seek to maximise his
advantages. To say that classical economists like David Ricardo believed that governments could
never have a beneficial effect on an economy would be like saying that governments can never pick
anything off the floor and put it back on a shelf. Ricardo never said that. A full century after Ricardo,
Keynes showed that governments could act to mitigate the effects of a recession by stimulating
demand. He did not claim that he could flatten the economic cycle so that markets never expanded or

The Testament Of Isaiah And Isaiah
Throughout the Old Testament God carried out his plan to bring His people back to Him. Often the
people of Israel would fall away from their relationship with God by worshipping false Idols such as
Baal or by disobeying His commands in general. One of the main ways God got his message of
redemption to His people was via prophets, spiritually gifted individuals that God lifted up to
communicate His will to the people of Israel. The prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah often were used to call
Israel out on their wickedness, and to warn then of God s coming judgement that would teach them a
lesson. It is clear from what the prophets wrote, that God very much intended to wipe the sins of the
nation s away, one way or another. This is a message that still very much applies today, Isaiah and
Jeremiah were meant to steer God s people back to Him and their messages with Christians today are
supposed to do the same. Judah and Israel in their time were constantly full of sins and needing to be
cleansed. In the beginning of Isaiah, he opens by stating that they were a sinful nation, A people laden
with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the lord. (Isaiah
1:4, New King James Version). The sins of Judah and Israel were many and that is why God sent the
prophets with the message they gave. In attempt to warn the people that disobeying God s
commandments would lead to harsh punishment. It is apparent that God did respond to the sins
harshly. In

The Tiger Rising Summary
Rag summaries: Tigers
1. Fiction:
DiCamillo, Kate. The Tiger Rising. Cambridge, MA: Candlewick, 2001. Print.
In this sometimes heartbreaking, inspiring novel, Rob Horton, a glum, twelve year old boy living his
sad, lonely life with his dad, was wandering through the woods one misty Florida morning when he
finds the most unexpected creature, a beautiful tiger. A real life glistening tiger, locked up in a cage.
On the same outstanding day he meets a fierce girl named Sistine Bailey while in school. Together,
with the tiger always in their hearts;guiding them and leading them to make choices, they go through
heartaches, happiness and loneliness. Also, despite their opposites, they uncover the meaning of true
friendship and learn that the most important things in life, can t stay hidden forever. In my opinion,
this book teaches an important lesson. I think the lesson taught in this novel is inspiring, and is
something worth while. I think this book teaches you that you can t focus on your past, and you can t
keep the whole world locked up forever.

Advantages Of European Colonisation
This essay reviews the economic advantages that European metropolitan powers gained through
colonisation and the extent to which this process was detrimental to said colonies economies. This
essay largely focusses on the empire of Britain and the colonies in Africa, India, North and South
America. In the first section of this text, the economic advantages to the European metropolitan state
of colonisation will be outlined, focussing on the improvements to international trade and the
acquisition of cheap resources via extracting them from their colonies. The second part of this essay
the economic consequences to the colonies of European colonisation will be examined. This will be

Furthermore, this essay discusses the standard development model or development policies it refers to
the group of four policies: mass education, creating a national market, erecting an external tariff and
creating a banking system as discussed in (Allen, 2011, pp. 41 43). This essay argues that colonisation
was economically beneficial to the colonialist powers through improving the metropolitan state s
international trade and giving them access to cheap resources. Furthermore, this essay argues that
colonisation was economically detrimental to colonies due to both the short term impacts of
deindustrialisation and longer term impacts of limiting development by limiting the use of the
standard development model and creating economies characterised by inequality. However, this essay
acknowledges that some colonies did benefit but they were largely the exception due to their high
European population i.e. the US.
One of the economic advantages of colonisation to European metropolitan state is that it enabled them
to improve their international trade. This was achieved through two main routes: restricting colonies to
only trading with them and dominating the market of certain

A Retrieved Reformation By O Henry Summary
The short story A Retrieved Reformation, written by O. Henry, takes place mostly in Elmore,
Arkansas. It starts off focusing on Jimmy Valentine, convicted felon, as he gets out of jail and decides
to get back into his old habit of safe cracking. However, when he arrives into the town where the bank
he s targeted lies, he falls in love with Annabel Adams, the banker s daughter. He became a new man,
by the name of Ralph D.Spencer, and then they got married and started a family. Unfortunately, in the
end of the story, he transformed back into Jimmy to save his daughter from dying. This story is an
example of how loving and caring for others brings out the best in people. When elite safecracker
Jimmy Valentine arrived in Elmore, he had nobody in his life worth staying in one place for. He had
never met someone to fall in love with, until he saw, ironically, the banker s daughter. A young lady
crossed the street, passed him at the corner and entered a door over which was the sign, The Elmore
Bank. Jimmy Valentine looked into her eyes, forgot what he was, and became another man. Jimmy
was in love at first sight, and he was so excited because now there is someone in his life worth
sticking around for. He doesn t have to run away anymore. He changed because he didn t want to live
on the run, he wanted to be able to stay with the person he loved.
Another detail that proves Jimmy was changed by his love for Annabel is the metaphoric scene that
shows him change into a

Alberta Oil Sands Research Paper

Environment, Alberta. Alberta s Oil Sands. Opportunity. Balance. Edmonton, AB: Dept. of
Environment, 2008. Print.
This publication from the Government of Alberta s Department of Energy tries to focus on an all
around view of the oil sands. It talks about what they are, how they work, and environmental problems
and solutions. The publication is not nearly as current as some other sources, it was published late
2008. It is free from bias but tries to stay overly optimistic, something is a challenge not an
environmental concern. Since it is a government source it is mostly objective but does try to keep the
oil sands in a positive view, possibly to benefit our economy. The publication is factual, accurate, and
has a limited bias ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It gives a brief introduction into the oil sands then jumps right into its main topic, covering the
environmental effects of mining, carbon emissions, water use and tailings of the oil sands. This article
is an effective contrast to the government publications. The government publications try to stay as
objective as possible but often are biased by omission, and don t always give a clear picture. This
article is similar, but fights for the other side. The government publications tend to paint the oil sands
in a positive light, this tries to paint it in a negative light. The article was written by Simon Dyer, a big
name in the oil industry. He is a former director (and current regional director) of the Pembina

through improvements in the laws and technologies of the oil sands that can be accomplished. Simon

Being Sane In Insane Places Analysis
Being Sane in Insane Places Psychiatry has come a long way since David Rosenhans experiment in

whateerproblem they have. You don t think so? Here take some Respirdal. Rosenhan s main point was
to test whether their skills were up to date with what control they had. Rosenhan was critical with the
amount of control that psychiatrists had. So his experiment came to mind. He and his friends planned
to test them to see if they knew that they were sane by saying they heard a voice saying thud, than
when/if they were admitted they would tell them they were all better. At the end of the experiment
they found that once you were admitted, you were in a different world and no longer seen as a human
being. They would change uniforms in front of them and not expect any kind of reaction, also they

Genesco which will give me 625 shares with no dividend. Another high risk stock I would get into is
GW Pharmaceuticals. This stock appears to jump up and down a lot which means if I could figure out
when it is at its lowest, I could buy a lot of shares and turn it back around once the stock peaks again.
By purchasing this stock, it gives me a stock that is related to medicine which allows my money not
only to be dispersed in different stocks, but different markets. GW Pharmaceuticals is currently selling
at $103.73 so with $16,500 I would buy 160 shares. The last stock that I would like to invest in is
Callaway Golf. By having this stock in my portfolio, it gives me a stock in the sporting market. I
picked this stock because it has been on a steady rise and the golf business is doing better and better. I
have an interest in this company and I own their product so I know I am investing in a good product.

Or they are similar enough to the brain s natural chemical messengers that they trick brain receptors
into activating nerve cells. Stimulants such as cocaine and methamphetamines cause the neurons to
release too much of the neurotransmitters, causing the sensation users describe as the brain racing.
And, in one way or another, almost all drugs over stimulate the pleasure center of the brain, flooding it
with the neurotransmitter dopamine. This produces euphoria, and the heightened pleasure can be so
compelling that the brain wants that feeling back again and again. Unfortunately, with repeated use of
a drug, the brain becomes accustomed to the dopamine surges by producing less of it. So the user has

Why Should We Study Turkey
Introduction
Why Study Turkey? Turkey is a particularly interesting country to study. The country dates back to the
beginnings of civilization and has been imprinted on by many historical conflicts. In its long
existence, it has been occupied by numerous empires, like the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman
Empire, which aided in shaping the regions values and structure to what it is today. The crucial
changing point for the country was when it received its independence, or sovereignty, from Russian,
Italian, and French occupation. In 1923, led by Mustafa Kemal, the turkish people, through the
nationalist movement, gained independence by not allowing the remnants of the Ottoman Empire after
their defeat in World War I to let the Allies split up the Turkish speaking lands. The influences that
swept over the nation during the centuries of imperial rule or migration of different peoples from
oppressive rule makes the country diverse in culture. The country has also seen a few of periods of
military rule. Through these militarily ruled periods, some of the country s most fundamental political
traditions were adopted, such as adopting a proportional representative system for elections or creating
new constitutions. All these actions have shaped Turkey s government and societal life in interesting
ways. Turkey is a secular Republican Parliamentary Democracy, where religion is separated from the
government and power is divided between the president, prime minister, and parliament.

Was John Brown Considered A Revolutionary
Why would John Brown be considered a revolutionary if he did so many bad things to try to end
slavery? John Brown was an abolitionist during the 1800 s. The reason why John Brown became an
abolitionist was because when he was younger he witnessed a slave get harshly beaten and John did
not like it. Brown also did not like the idea of people owning slaves. John Brown thought that if he
could kill the slave owners, and free the slaves, that he could end slav ery. John Brown died after he

Franco s National Catholicism
Such outrageous exclusion has perpetuated itself in contemporary times through Franco s national
Catholicism and the post Franco Europeanization. It is in light of the latter that we can now
understand Goytisolo s words upon receiving the Cervantes Literary Prize: Cuando me dan un premio,
sospecho de mí mismo (El País, 2015). Such suspicion is indeed a well founded one, for his
recognition as a major writer on the account of the Spanish state has only come after the exclusion of
Iberia s Semitic roots by Franco s national Catholicism has been further secured through its

Essay on A Case for Cloning
One reason people protest the idea of cloning is because may are mystified as to how it could be used
and what its purposes can be. I know that if it were your child, you would use every possible measure
to keep them alive. The fact that we, as humans, might be able to figure out how to clone so that lives
could be saved is extremely exciting and inspiring. On the other hand, there is a time and a place for
everything, including research. While cloning is justifiable in certain circumstances, I would want to
make sure other healthcare issues were taken care before donating money to research for cloning.

they also have the gift of bringing Mia into this world. The end result of having two healthy and well

difference, however, is that the children would be identical.
While Stella s and Mia s DNA and physical appearance would be exactly the same, there has been too
much research done to show that identical twins may have many things in common and, yet, still have
their own goals, personalities, and friends. Furthermore, the fact that the parents are intent on loving
Mia and treating her as an individual ensures that the ends justify the means. In fact, many proponents
of cloning see it as...just another way of providing a couple with a biological child they might
otherwise be unable to have. Since this goal and these other technologies are acceptable, cloning
should be acceptable (574).This statement is attempting to, in a sense, normalize the cloning process.
The author is attempting to make a connection between cloning and other reproductive technologies
that are accepted in society. The argument that cloning simply allows couples to have children that
they would not be able to have otherwise takes some of the mystification out of

  • 2. How I Learned From The Class Writings As I look back to when I first started taking this class I began to think about the things that I have learned. It had been quite a long time since I wrote anything other than basic notes or letters before I started taking the EN100 course. In fact, I have never been much of a writer even when writing about subjects I enjoy, so when the Justice was brought up as the main topic of the papers that we would be writing over the semester I was less then pleased. Now that my misgivings as a writer and my distain for the overall subject matter are out in the open, let s get back to the subject at hand. What have I learned in EN100 or more specifically, what have I learned from each of the papers I wrote on justice and from the in class writings? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another thing I learned from that first paper is that it is not acceptable to forsake the freedoms of some in order to better the majority. John Rawls, wrote in his book, A Theory of Justice that Each person possesses an inviolability founded on justice that even the welfare of society as a whole cannot override. For this reason justice denies that the loss of freedoms for some is made right by the greater good shared by others. So not only should justice be upheld for all people, regardless of their situation, but that these rights should not be overlooked in order to merely appease a majority. My second paper entitled Unjust American Justice showcased an article by Talia Jane called 5 ways America s Justice System Is Designed to Screw You. I learned from writing this paper is that someone cannot simply use facts that are based on a single persons experience if that person does not allow people to check their facts by withholding the name of their source. When writing one should always try to state facts, not opinion or bias experience. When reading any article ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Audio Watermarking Abstract: With the increasing usage of digital multimedia, the protection of intellectual property rights problem has become a very important issue. Digital watermarking is now drawing attention as a new method of protecting multimedia content from unauthorized copying. Over the past two decades, many digital watermarking algorithms have been developed, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The main aim of this paper is to present a survey report of recently done work in audio watermarking fields. INTRODUCTION Technological advances in computing, communications, consumer electronics and their convergence have resulted in phenomenal increases in the amount of digital content that is being generated, stored, distributed, and consumed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... LITERATURE SURVEY The audio watermarking has been a hot research area for protection of digital sound content. Many researchers have suggested algorithms for that. Some has also done a good survey of previous work done. That helps fellow researchers to work forward. In [1] Komal et. al presented a survey report on various audio watermarking algorithms. They divided the work into three main categories: spread spectrum algorithm, amplitude modification, replica method, dither watermarking and self marking method. As per the author the spread spectrum method has the problem of synchronisation and time consumed is higher whereas replica is good for synchronisation but echo handling is worst. Amplitude modification method needs large channel capacity and introduces noise too. Overall self marking method is good for synchronisation and robust for watermarking. Ali Al Haj [2] in his paper proposed solution for shortcomings of spread spectrum method is overcome by combining it with singular value decomposition for high rate of robustness. To make it more robust the watermark bits are inserted diagonally into wavelet transformed input audio signals and a controlling gain parameter is introduced. This method also ... • 4. Virginia Woolf s The Death Of The Moth Virginia Woolf was an extraordinary author that was born in London, 1882. Woolf wrote many novels during her lifetime such as Mrs. Dalloway and The Waves. She was considered one of the greatest twentieth century writers that wrote non fiction. Virginia Woolf committed suicide in 1941 at age fifty nine due to severe depression. One of Virginia Woolf s most well known novels The Death of the Moth is very unique. Woolf was distracted by a moth that was fluttering around her house and explained how it failed at its life purpose then died. I think she was an incredible author because so many thoughts and ideas flew through her head about one single moth and wrote them down on paper documenting its every move and meaning she thought was behind ... • 5. Teaching Compassion in a World Were Compassion Is Lost According to Arthur Schopenhauer compassion is the basis of all morality. This means that principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior (Google dictionary, morality) are developed by the sympathetic pity and concern for the suffering or misfortune of others. (Google dictionary, compassion) In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird we generally see this through the character Atticus Finch. Atticus demonstrates this when he pardons Bob Ewell s threats toward the Finch family, accepts the Tom Robinson case, though it is headed for failure and lastly Atticus examples compassion when he acts neighborly to Mrs. Dubose despite her insults towards him. As you will see, morally correct decisions come not from law or society, but from within. Bob Ewell, a man who is offensive, ignorant and lazy poses threats on Atticus Finch, an intellectual, wise, empathetic man and his family. The threats are dangerous and serious, however, no matter what they are or how scared his children grow nothing seems to faze him. Atticus is trying to teach his children to put themselves in other people s situations before coming to harsh conclusions: Jem, see if you can stand in Bob Ewell s shoes a minute. I destroyed his last shred of credibility at that trial, if he had any to begin with. The man had to have some kind of comeback, his kind always does. So if spitting in my face and threatening me saved Mayella Ewell one extra beating, that s something I ll gladly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Wizard Of Oz The Wonderfully written and film called the Wizard of Oz was first published in Chicago in 1900. The author, L. Frank Baum, was the editor of a South Dakota newspaper and who also supported William Jennings Bryan who happened to win three times, uneventfully, as a U.S. Presidential candidate for the Democratic Party. The main concern of Baum and Bryan was the nature of the money supply in the United States, and in the Mid Western States in their concern. In America during the 1890s, in Britain, there had been a severe depression. Several businesses had gone bankrupt, all farmers were forced to sell up all they had owned, factories closed, and workers made the unemployed list. Baum and Bryan wanted money to be based on silver, and as for silver, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. The Thematic Concept Of Fear In Beowulf And Gilgamesh Overall Introduction: For years, literature has been used to teach us important morals and life lessons. These life lessons are often universal in nature. This means that no matter what age, gender, or status a person is, anyone can relate to the theme being discussed. For this reason they are called universal themes. Non universal themes are themes that are specific to the story being told, but are not considered universally understood. The following demonstrates that Beowulf and Gilgamesh both have the same universal thematic statement concept of fear in addition to a multiple non universal themes throughout them. Thematic Discussion When looking at the universal theme Gilgamesh and Beowulf, the thematic concept is fear. The thematic statement for this universal theme would be: In literature, as well as in real life, man often my come up against someone or something he fears and then must decide whether or not they will act in cowardly or courageous way . The thematic concept for Beowulf that is a non universal theme would be political generosity. The thematic statement would be that: In Beowulf, one can see how generosity and hospitality were considered very important to the Danish culture. However, this not considered a universal theme, because although generosity and hospitality may have been considered very important attributes at the time Beowulf was written, not every culture of the time considered these nicetes to be of the highest importance. • 8. Theistic Evolution Have you ever wondered how the universe came into existence? There are several different theories or views on the origin of the world. Three of these views would include but not limited to: theistic evolution, the big bang theory, and the view called abiogenesis. Theistic Evolution is the belief that there is a God but he is not directly involved with the world. This is the belief that the world was not created in one moment, without a conscious thought or occurred naturally on its own. Theistic evolutionists believe the earth was created over a period of time. They also believe that God only helped the process of creation. They don t believe he created the earth or did any of the heavy lifting. The people who believe in this way are typically those who want a religion that looks at life from a scientific point of view. This person in particular blames God for the darkness in this world. They believe that God is just sitting back, watching as the world turns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those who actively believe this theory, think that the universe has a beginning. They believe the universe has not always existed. They believe that one moment there was nothing and another moment the universe existed. What is currently known as the Big Bang Theory was evolved from the standard theory. The standard theory says that the universe came into existence as singularity around 13.7 billion years ago (Big Bang Theory). Singularities are believed to have originated at the heart of black holes. If one can see a black hole, one is too close. Therefore will be sucked into the black hole. Due to the powerful force of the black hole s gravitational pull. A singularity is defined as interminably small in size, immensely hot in temperature and extremely dense. Those who believe in the Big Bang Theory believe the universe expanded and cooled, going from very, very small and very, very hot, to the size and temperature of our current universe (Big Bang ... • 9. The Black Panther Party The Black Panthers The Black Panther Party is a self defense, African American revolutionary party. This party was founded in Oakland, California by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale during the 1960 s. This party was dedicated to combating white oppression, and did so by the use of both peaceful and violent actions. Looking back at the history of the Black Panthers, it can be clearly seen that the peaceful idea of equality for all spawned this group and their violent actions for the main reason that they were willing to do anything to defend their beliefs. One of the greatest reasons for the violent actions of the party, should be credited to the co founder named Huey Newton. Huey Newton was a rebellious individual who was suspected of committing many crimes. As minister of defense within the party, Huey was seen as a leader to the members of the organization. In an interview with Newton, he made clear what he wanted the party to stand for, and what they needed to do to achieve this. In an excerpt from the interview transcript, he says that there are two kinds of nationalism, revolutionary and reactionary nationalism. Revolutionary nationalism is first dependent upon a People s revolution with the end goal being the people in power... If you are a reactionary nationalist you are not a socialist and your end goal is the oppression of the people. (Newton 1). From this transcript, it can be inferred what kind of nationalism Huey wants the party to follow. He wants the people to gain power through the use of violence And extremism. As the interview continues, Huey states the views of the Black Panther Party by saying The Black Panther Party, which is a revolutionary group of black people, realizes that we have an identity. We have to realize our black heritage in order to give us strength to move on and progress (Newton 1). By saying this, Huey is announcing to the world that the Black Panthers are going to cause a dramatic change, and implies that they will do whatever is necessary as long as they have the strength. The cause for violence from peaceful ideas is largely due to the leadership. The minister of Education George Murray made many speeches that supported the violent actions, and encouraged them. • 10. Pros And Cons Of Space Race Do We Need Another Space Race? The possibility of a second space race has grown stronger than ever recently. After the launch of the most affordable and the second most powerful rocket of all time, the Falcon Heavy by SpaceX, the subject has been given new life. Following the successful launch, Elon Musk, the head of SpaceX, stated that he wants to start a second space race. Already, his wish has started coming true. After only a week after the first launch, many other companies have already stated their own plans for rocket launches and development. However, throughout all the excitement and speculations, people are forgetting to ask an important question: do we even need another space race? The original space race took place from the estimated years of 1957 all the way through 1975, starting with the launch of the first man made satellite, the Sputnik I, and ending with the Apollo Soyuz mission, which contained a Soviet cosmonaut and an American astronaut shaking hands in outer space, closing off the space race with a rather symbolic ending. During the space race, the United States and the Soviet Union, who were the strongest nations in the world at the time, both competed to make the most scientific and technological ... • 11. The Assassination Of Mother Teresa It was September the 10th, 1964 and World war 2 had only just come to a conclusion. Mother Teresa sat on a piping hot train, on a hot summers day in Calcutta. She tried taking up as little space as possible to avoid being crowded which she was to a great extent and deeply swelter. She was on a train from Calcutta to the Himalayan foothills for a retreat. On this train ride Christ spoke to Mother Teresa. She referred to this as her second calling and in her words it was a vocation to give up, even at Loreto where I was very happy, to go out into the streets to serve . I want Indian Nuns, Missionaries of Charity, who would be my fire of love amongst the poor, the sick, the dying and the little children, she heard Christ say to her on the train in those very words. You are I know the most incapable person weak and sinful but just because you are that I want to use you for my glory. Wilt thou refuse? . A sensation of happiness rushed through her, even though she had been called weak she was honoured. She was very quick to share her vision with her supporters, friends and members of the Loreto sisters that she worked with. She was questioned about her call, and all the intentions and aims she had for doing it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It took much time, and patience. • 12. My Attitudes Towards The Elderly Society as whole has many false beliefs and preconceived notions about the aging population. I myself have harboured dozens of them throughout my lifetime. However, there are a select few that have stood the test of time as they continue to guide my attitudes towards the elderly. Though one of the oldest stereotypes in the book, I unfortunately see the elderly as being a generally unhappy (grumpy) group. I rationalize to myself that they are this way due to deteriorating health, and also because they are generally unpleased with where life has taken them. I also feel that as a result, many elderly tend to disengage themselves from society, preferring to live quiet lives in solitude. And due to their self imposed exiles from the judging eyes of the world, they take little pride in their aesthetic appearance. So in an endeavor to examine the impact of my perceived beliefs about others, I interviewed my mother to verify whether or not my currently held beliefs carried any weight. The Interview Me: What is your current age? Mom: 59 Me: Does the thought of aging worry you? Mom: Aging worries me. I know that as we age, no matter how much we take good care of ourselves, we are going to get sick. I m scared of getting sick and being a burden to my kids. And also, I m not ready to die. I want to see that all my kids and my only grandchild to have a stable life. Me: How would you say aging has affected you both physically and mentally? Mom: I noticed that I get tired ... • 13. Analysis Of Fences By August Wilson The Future is in Your Hands. Children grow up naturally emulating the adults around them, for most it is their mother and father, this is natural and typically a positive thing. There are times, however, when the people that children emulate are not the best examples society has to offer. In the play Fences Cory looks up to his dad when it comes to sports. However, by the end of the play the reader starts to notice that Troy is not the man to look up to. The plot in Fences by August Wilson is centered around an African American family that looks at the world a little differently by that I mean when Troy was young people believed blacks shouldn t be able to do the things whites can. People were rude and outspoken about how they felt when it came to sharing public things with blacks. Now Troy s sons are living in a world that has evolved and is not as racist, the boys can go out and achieve their dreams, even if they are African American it may be difficult but is still achievable. Because of the change in the way of life there has been a conflict between the two boys and their father. Troy may realize that things are different now, but that doesn t change the fact that it is hard for him to let go of the past. Because Troy was unable to play baseball based on his race, he believes Cory shouldn t be able to go on and play college football. This raises a big question, is Troy being unfair or is he trying to look out for his son? The main theme throughout the play Fences is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bisland is listed as a Manufacturer of Sugar in the US IRS Tax Assessment List for Division 21, dated January 1867. William Alexander Bisland left Hope Farm and was at Mount Repose in Natchez. The 1870 Census of Natchez, Adams County, Mississippi shows William A., age 43, and family living with his mother, Mary L.L. Bisland; his sister, Lenora, and several other family members. The next entry on this census is another sister, Jane Lambdin and her family. The 1870 Census of Terrebonne lists Thomas, age 35; Margaret, age 30; children: Mary (known as Mollie), age 11; Lydia (Elizabeth perhaps reported as Lizzy), age 9; Thomas, age 6; Lensin (Lenox), age 2; and Margaret, age 1. Thomas is listed as a Farmer. Note that Guy is not reported in this listing. There is no further mention of Guy other than the above referenced letters, and it is presumed that he died as an infant between 1862 and 1864.24, 32 Thomas and family have obviously left Fairfax Plantation in St. Mary and are now living at Hope Farm. ... Humans are social creatures, thus restricting ourselves to communicating through Facebook, Instagram, or whatever medium is convenient at the time becomes detrimental the health and well being we try to cultivate and maintain. In other words, with the many successes and necessities that interconnectivity has provided humanity, there are just as many pitfalls and problems. In other words, the technology we have now is far superior to the technology we had before, and as a result, we as humans can do so much more than we could in prior years. With the trend towards an increasingly connected age, the harm lies in the over reliance on the technology. This harm is presented as a deterioration of face to face communication and the skills required for that. I do not believe that Kline s discussion was limited, because Kline distinctly states that: Even if a single human is using a musical instrument, there is the need for knowledge of music and ingrained neuromuscular skills, from long practice, to make even adequate music. • 18. 1984 By George Orwell Essay On Privacy Privacy issues have been an ongoing problem in our world for a long time now, and recently it has been even worse with all the new technology that has come out in the past few decades. In 1984 written by George Orwell, privacy is one of the main issues of the entire plot. All of the people were watched through telescreens, which could never be shut off. Everyone is forced to live out in the open under the view of the government, and their words are very closely listened to. If anyone breaks the rules of the government or tries to live with privacy they are either punished or killed. Although our world is not that extreme when it comes to an invasion of privacy, we are definitely not living in a world where we can keep everything a secret. English author George Orwell wrote his novel 1984 in the years following World War II. The book envisions a society dominated by a totalitarian government, known as Big Brother, that monitors peoples every move through television like screens in homes, offices, and businesses. Baumol recognizes that since it is large organizations that are most likely to be competitors within an oligopoly, then the chains of control and decision making are likely to be elongated. It is therefore considered that more likely that it will take longer to arrive at and implement decisions within such organizations than within smaller competitors. Within the market, it is claimed that there is tacit collusion between organizations to maintain the status quo. These incumbents, once the oligopoly has settled down into an equilibrium position, are able to enjoy a quiet life and split the profits between them. Additionally, there may be a general lack of interest on the part of organizations to compete in their markets unless actions are undertaken by others to upset the current situation. • 23. The Testament Of Isaiah And Isaiah Throughout the Old Testament God carried out his plan to bring His people back to Him. Often the people of Israel would fall away from their relationship with God by worshipping false Idols such as Baal or by disobeying His commands in general. One of the main ways God got his message of redemption to His people was via prophets, spiritually gifted individuals that God lifted up to communicate His will to the people of Israel. The prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah often were used to call Israel out on their wickedness, and to warn then of God s coming judgement that would teach them a lesson. It is clear from what the prophets wrote, that God very much intended to wipe the sins of the nation s away, one way or another. This is a message that still very much applies today, Isaiah and Jeremiah were meant to steer God s people back to Him and their messages with Christians today are supposed to do the same. Judah and Israel in their time were constantly full of sins and needing to be cleansed. In the beginning of Isaiah, he opens by stating that they were a sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the lord. (Isaiah 1:4, New King James Version). The sins of Judah and Israel were many and that is why God sent the prophets with the message they gave. It starts off focusing on Jimmy Valentine, convicted felon, as he gets out of jail and decides to get back into his old habit of safe cracking. However, when he arrives into the town where the bank he s targeted lies, he falls in love with Annabel Adams, the banker s daughter. He became a new man, by the name of Ralph D.Spencer, and then they got married and started a family. He had never met someone to fall in love with, until he saw, ironically, the banker s daughter. A young lady crossed the street, passed him at the corner and entered a door over which was the sign, The Elmore Bank. Jimmy Valentine looked into her eyes, forgot what he was, and became another man. Jimmy was in love at first sight, and he was so excited because now there is someone in his life worth sticking around for. He doesn t have to run away anymore. The country dates back to the beginnings of civilization and has been imprinted on by many historical conflicts. In its long existence, it has been occupied by numerous empires, like the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empire, which aided in shaping the regions values and structure to what it is today. The crucial changing point for the country was when it received its independence, or sovereignty, from Russian, Italian, and French occupation. In 1923, led by Mustafa Kemal, the turkish people, through the nationalist movement, gained independence by not allowing the remnants of the Ottoman Empire after their defeat in World War I to let the Allies split up the Turkish speaking lands. The influences that swept over the nation during the centuries of imperial rule or migration of different peoples from oppressive rule makes the country diverse in culture. The country has also seen a few of periods of military rule. Through these militarily ruled periods, some of the country s most fundamental political traditions were adopted, such as adopting a proportional representative system for elections or creating new constitutions.
