They Re Not Your Husband Summary
They re Not Your Husband is a short story written by Raymond Carver and published in 1973.
Raymond Carver is a minimalist writer, which provides his short stories with an economy with words,
adverbs and a focus on surface description. This allows the context to dictate meaning. Therefore, the
reader has an active role in the creation of the short story; to choose side based on inclined innuendo
and hints.
The story reveals an unemployed salesman, Earl Ober, who feels obligated to get his wife, Doreen
Ober, to lose weight, due to two men s negative statements about his wife s body; look at the ass on
that, will you? I don t believe it. The other man laughed I ve seen better . The two men in business

Essay on Jack The Ripper
The Whitechapel Murders and those of Jack the Ripper are not generally one and the same. Over a
period of three years towards the end of the nineteenth century a number of prostitutes were murdered
under different circumstances the murder of prostitutes was not an especially unique occurrence
during those times but several of the murders drew particular attention on account of the savagery
with which the victim s bodies were mutilated. Within the Whitechapel Murders was a cluster of
murders that demonstrated sufficient similarities as to suggest that they were committed by the same
person. One of the first instances of serial murder was thus identified and sensationalised in the media
as the work of Jack the Ripper , nicknamed on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The employment situation was even worse for women and it is little wonder that many had no
alternative but to resort to prostitution as a source of income.
The newspapers of the day were as colourful and inaccurate in much of their editorial reporting as the
police forensic investigations were limited through lack of investigative techniques. Even the
identification of bodies was dependent largely upon facial recognition, distinguishing marks, or papers
on the corpse. Misidentification of bodies, either by accident or design, especially those subject to
decomposition and including the very many corpses pulled from the Thames, must have been
commonplace.
Fingerprinting was still in the process of being developed. A classification scheme appeared in 1901
and first used in a trial in the UK in 1902. Dental records were non existent and blood grouping only
developed after the identification of the different types in 1901. From that it became possible to
serologically identify other body fluids. DNA was not discovered until 1953 and the unique
identification of individuals by DNA profiling did not follow until 1985. In 1910, an important
principle of forensic science was established by Edmund Locart who suggested that every contact
leaves a trace; a criminal will always carry away with him some trace from the scene of the crime and
will leave behind some trace of his presence. This is the very foundation of forensic science that has

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Carbon Fibre
Carbon fibre is a very toxic element which can cause dust inhalation during the manufacturing
processes as the fibre breaks, skin irritation and shortcuts when used with electrical equipment (as
carbon fibre is a good conductor of electricity). Therefore people working with it must wear protective
mask and the electrical equipment should be sealed. Carbon is a distinctive material with many
interesting engineering qualities. The opportunity to improve mechanical properties of such a vaulable
material and to reduce brittleness has been the inspiration for developments of a indispensable
material, carbon fibre reinforced carbon that has been used to manufacture rocket nozzles, aerospace
components and even surgical implants (Harris,1999). Epoxy ... Show more content on

Many resins used as matrices for glass fibres allow the spreading of the water, the protection of
reinforcing filaments is often not satisfied in many glass reinforced polymers (GRP) and the
enviromental damage that occurs is worsened by stress. Loads applied to composite structure are
transferred to the fibre materials in the composite, to the load bearing components, and to the matrix,
allowing the composite to resist compression, flexural and shear forces aswell as tensile loads (Harris,
1999). The likely hood to reinforcing any given material will depend to some extent on its ability to
carry out some or all of these matrix functions, but there are other analysis such as the standard of
various classes of matrix materials (Harris, 1999). Among the ploymetric matrices, the epoxy resins
are widely used in aeronautical industry. Epoxy resins satisfy the mechanical strength, chemical
resistance and service temperature requirements. The modification of epoxy matrix with thermoplastic
polymers in the aeronautical industry aims to reduce the mechanical damage of polymeric composites
by impact loads. Therefore the use of modified polymeric matrix in the composite manufacture
requires a systematic evaluation of the mechanical

Ammaniti’s Novel, I’m Not Scared Essay
This is a profoundly moral tale of lost innocence and adult cruelty. Do you agree?
Ammaniti s novel I m Not Scared set in Acqua Traverse, Italy 1978 is a powerful text, which explores
relevant social themes and issues. Besides being a tale of adult cruelty and lost innocence we cannot
ignore the role in which loyalty and betrayal play in the novel. These central themes make this novel a
compelling text.
In the novel Michelle journeys from a joyful innocent child into a perceptive and wiser youth. Initially
we view Michelle as a child who is very compassionate, willing to do the forfeit for Barbara to exempt
her from Skull s cruelty. As the story progresses qualities namely courage and loyalty surface in
Michelle. These two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

live in his own excretion this can be seen when Michelle lifts the mattress to the hole A terrible stink
of shit was released . The treatment of Fillipo is appalling, this act is magnified by the fact that the
adults in the village have children of their own yet are capable of such cruelty. The author portrays
Fillipo as identical to Michelle in age and height, the intended effect is to draw parallels with Michelle
and show that Fillipo is like any other nine year old.
Loyalty and betrayal occurs frequently in the text. Michelle is loyal to Fillipo, he is willing to break a
promise he made on my fathers head . He realises the suffering Fillipo endures and forms a bond. He
admits openly towards the end of the text that Fillipo is a friend of mine . Betrayal is also a prominent
theme in the story. To key instances of betrayal occur, the first being Salvatore s betrayal of Michelle.
Secondly we also must view Pino s betrayal of his family. Salvatore s betrayal was a heart wrenching
experience for Michelle. Michelle is beaten by Felice but it is his heart which hurts most, Salvatore
had broken it . Some readers feel that Michelle betrayed Pino however it has to be said that Pino
despite having the best intentions for his family ultimately betrayed them. He was the one who chose

Economic Impact Of The Clean Power Plan
This paper explores the economic impact the Clean Power Plan, as proposed by President Obama,
would have on the coal industry and on society as a whole. The plan, also known as the CPP, has a
goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by the year 2030. Many proponents of the coal industry
claim that the CPP would harm the United States economy with little positive impact on the
environment. The White House, other government agencies, scholarly organizations, and
organizations regarding the protection of human health and the environment dispute these claims,
stating that the CPP would actually lead to a net increase in employment, increased air quality, and an
overall healthier society, all while promoting the renewable energy sector. After analyzing the data
from both sides, it was determined in this paper that the overall benefits of the Clean Power Plan
outweigh the costs, therefore the plan should go forward as planned.
Introduction
On August 3, 2015, President Obama announced new carbon pollution standards for power plants
under the Clean Power Plan (CPP).[1] The purpose of the plan was to decrease carbon dioxide (CO2)
emissions to promote better air quality. This plan will impact not only coal fired power plants and the
coal industry, but also individuals who live around them and the greater populous. This paper seeks to
answer if such a plan should go forward and the impacts of such a plan on the parties listed above. To
answer this question, this paper will look

Martin Luther King Jr Inspiration
Martin Luther King Jr was an inspirational man who helped save lives through his activism in the mid
1950s. He was passionate in his non violent protests, which helped to raise awareness of racial
inequalities in America. All of his passionate work led to significant political changes, such as ending
segregation through his speeches. Without him, we would not have multiple races in the same places
as whites. He inspired many people of color to stand up for what they thought was right without
violence. Through his fight to end segregation, Martin Luther King Jr is known as one of America s
most influential civil rights activists still today. Martin Luther King was born on January 15, 1929, in
Atlanta, Georgia. He was born as Michael King Jr, a middle child to the parents Reverend Martin
Luther King Sr. and Alberta Williams King. While he was growing up he attended a high school in
Georgia named Booker T. Washington. His father was a minister at Ebenezer Baptist church in
Atlanta. His mother Alberta Williams King was a teacher. Martin Luther at the age of fifteen went to
Morehouse College, and graduated from there in 1948 without actually graduating high school first.
While doing graduate work at Boston Graduate school, he met Coretta Scott. He later on married
Coretta Scott in 1953 on the lawn of her parents house where she grew up in Alabama. They
eventually had four children; Martin Luther King III, Dexter Scott King, Yolanda King, and Bernice

Corporate Law And Shareholder Approval
Most equity carve outs do not require shareholder approval and require only approval by the parent
company s and subsidiary company s boards of directors. More complicated corporate law
considerations, particularly those related to fiduciary duties, typically arise following the closing of an
equity carve out, especially if the parent retains a significant equity interest in the subsidiary.
Shareholder Approval
The question of whether shareholder approval is required to implement an equity carve out is
determined by state law. While shareholder approval statutes vary by state, most are substantially
similar to Delaware s statute, which provides that shareholders must approve a transaction in which a
company will sell all or substantially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most equity carve outs are not large enough to require shareholder approval; if the parent sells less
than a majority stake and retains control over the subsidiary, there is a strong argument against
needing to obtain shareholder approval. If the parent sells between 50% and 100% of its subsidiary
shares, on the other hand, and the subsidiary s business is important to the parent, there is a strong
argument in support of needing shareholder approval. The requirement for shareholder approval is
significant because proxy materials must be mailed, a shareholder meeting must be organized and
approval must be obtained before the transaction can be completed. If the parent s shares are
registered under the Exchange Act, proxy materials must comply with Regulation 14A and meet
disclosure requirements. While proxy materials should disclose the material terms of the offering,
details such as final price and size of the offering are typically not determined until the registration
statement is effective, which creates a risk that the parent will not be able to meet its disclosure
obligations.
Board Approval
Approval is typically required by both the parent s and the subsidiary s boards of directors in order to
implement an equity carve out. While the specific

The Media Has a Grasp on Younger Generations
Media can influence every home in America. Not only is it capable of influence through television,
but it can influence through magazines, newspapers, word of mouth, even clothing! The qualities of a
person media tends to influence most, is their self esteem and personality. Women are especially seen
as being influenced, but men are in the bunch as well, although less published. Children are being
brought into the influence as well at younger ages each generation. With more media influence in
families, we can expect more social problems. Many people might think they aren t influenced by the
media, but in actuality they are. Andersen in Thinking About Women writes Each of us sees thousands

This influences a man s opinion on his body. Men are built differently depending on their genetics,
and the image most men try to obtain is unattainable due to those genetics. With genetics in play men
won t be able to obtain the wanted image making their self esteem lower than a man who can.
Children are also influenced by the media, but their surrounding increase to impact. Children learn by
observing, and repeating. By watching family remember or other children, they will repeat what is
seen acceptable by the peer or parent. Children want to fit in and want to make their parents proud. In
Jill Conway s anthology Margaretw Mead writes This sense of satisfying one s parents probably has a
great deal to do with one s capacity to accept oneself as a kind of person (303). If parents are reacting
to how the media is trying to conform society, they are unaware of the impact they are sending tho
their children. It can also be seen in other peers at school. Children are basically shunned if they do
not have the latest clothing or look a certain way. As I went out on my own to put my thesis to the test,
I distributed my surveys at various social places. Those places included parks, shopping centers, and
Starbucks cafes. While adding people I knew (10 of them) I asked them through Facebook. I

What Happened To The Loyalists
Argumentative Essay
Loyalist or Patriot
Background: Various events of the 1700s led colonists to develop strong beliefs regarding the British
government. The Trial of Peter Zenger, The Proclamation of 1763, the Boston Massacre combined
with constantly changing taxes and rules that governed them made many think that self governance
was the best path for the colonies. Others felt that the King and his appointed officials had their best
interests in mind and preferred to stay loyal to the crown. Later, during the American Revolution, most
colonists took one side or the other. Either they were Patriots or loyalist. Patriots believed that the
colonies should break away from England and govern themselves. Loyalist believed that the colonies

Life for the loyalists became increasingly difficult during the war. Loyalists who lived in areas
controlled by the patriots were in constant danger from radical patriots. Many of them lost their homes
and businesses.
Many loyalists left the country and went back to Britain. Others decided to help the British fight the
patriots. They either joined the British army or formed their own groups of fighters such as the Loyal
Greens and the Royal American Regiment.
What happened to the loyalists after the war?
Many loyalists moved to England after the war ended. A lot of them lost their fortunes and land that
they had built up over years in the Americas. In some cases the British government paid them for their
loyalty, but it was usually not nearly as much as they had lost. The United States government wanted
the loyalists to stay. They felt the new country could use their skills and education. Few stayed,
however.

A Case Study On Southwest And Will Address Acquisitions
Mergers and acquisitions have always been around and have been popular in the United States for
decades. It has been said that that mergers and acquisitions have contributed to the reconstruction of
businesses during the 80 s and 90 s. The following is an analysis of a case study on Southwest and will
address acquisitions, mergers, and restructuring. Acquisitions are popular in the United States and
there are many reasons why a company decides to acquire another company. Companies will decide to
acquire a business in order to increase market power. Market power happens when a company sells its
good or services above competitive levels. If a company attains a high market power, it can become a
leader (Hitt, Ireland, Hoskisson, 2015). Acquisitions that are competing in the same industry as the
acquiring firm is called a Horizontal acquisitions Horizontal acquisitions also increase a company s
market power. According to the class textbook, horizontal acquisition are a result in higher
performance when a company have similar characteristics (Hitt, Ireland, Hoskisson, 2015). For
example, has somewhat of the same strategy and decision making styles. Another type of acquisition
is vertical acquisitions, which refers to a company who purchases a supplier or a distribution of
products they use. A vertical acquisition gives the firm additional controls (Hitt, Ireland, Hoskisson,
2015). A merger is a strategy where two companies agree to combine. Mergers are popular among

Speech and Deception in John Milton s Paradise Lost Essay
Speech and Deception in Milton s Paradise Lost
Rhetoric and sophistry testify to the fact that the world in which we live is a world of speech, that the
clever man can compose at will in order to trick others. 1
Speech was perhaps the most important medium for Milton. As a blind poet, his lack of visual
faculties was augmented by a renewed importance on auditory paths to enlightenment, especially the
communicative. Therefore, contemplation of dialogue in Paradise Lost becomes an essential tool for
developing a correct understanding of the characters, as Milton would have intended. Nowhere is this
truer than with the character of Satan. Throughout the text, his rhetoric exists as a window to the
nature of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, here, as throughout much the poem, Satan continues to hedge the other side of the
argument, insisting that he isn t forced to do evil by opposing God, but that to do ill our sole delight
(160). This belief that he has a choice in the matter is tied up in the misconception that he was, and
continues to be, equal to God, as reason hath equall d (248) them. Quite to the contrary, Milton makes
it clear that the will And high permission of all ruling Heaven Left him at large to his own dark
designs (211 3). And it is only Satan s perverted sense of reason that convinces him that The mind is
its own place, and in itself Can make a Heav n of Hell, a Hell of Heav n (254 5). He believes that his
reason and contemplation will help him discover How overcome this dire Calamity (189), or failing
that, change his will such that it fits his current circumstance. This is the classic method of the
delusional and disenfranchised, holding out hope for change, but at the same time putting forth the
belief that the current situation can actually be beneficial. The sophistry has shown through Satan s
speech, as he declares that there is no way for God to beat him, in his mind, when we know he is
already defeated.
Perhaps even more telling are the conversations Satan has with himself. Modern thinkers rightfully
consider of great importance the times when man speaks to parts of his own

Societal Impacts Of Genetic Study Of Intelligence
SOCIETAL IMPACTS OF GENETIC STUDY OF INTELLIGENCE: Throughout history racism has
been centered on phenotypic differences between races such as skin color. Also, there was a multitude
of false information that was created by racism, for example, the claim that certain races have the
predisposition to be less intelligent than others. In 1994, Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles Murray
published The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life. This controversial

These study methods allow researchers to look for similarities and differences within the genome of
individuals of different intelligence levels. Using single nucleotide polymorphism testing, researchers
are able to look at single base pairs within the genome and make comparisons within a population.
With the technology that has developed in the last few decades, the study of intelligence has become
much more complex and in depth which has allowed geneticists to see trends that they have not seen
before. POLYGENIC: With the new genetic study technologies of the twenty first century, researchers
are able to conduct genome wide analysis studies as well as single nucleotide polymorphism studies
which can be used to determine which genes, if any, code for intelligence. A study by Benyamin et al.
(2014) used single nucleotide polymorphism testing to compare the genomes of 17,989 children. The
authors looked for genes in which children of similar intelligence shared many single nucleotide
polymorphisms. However, the authors did not find any single nucleotide polymorphisms that reached
a genome wide significance value. Thus, the authors concluded that this result points to intelligence
being the result of the aggregate effect of many genes within the genome and not just one specific
mother gene . However, while

Current Issues and Future Directions in Criminal Justice
Abstract
In light of the recent spate of police involved homicides of suspects who may or may not have put the
lives of the police involved in fear for their safety and well being, this paper seeks to examine the use
of deadly force by police officers in the line of duty. The training involved in using one s service
weapon in situations that call for a determination of the use of force will be explored, as will the rules,
regulations, and extenuating circumstances that lead to the firing of a service weapon in the line of
duty, resulting in the death of a suspect. The Supreme Court cases that have led to and/or upheld laws
allowing a broader interpretation of what is considered justifiable use of deadly force will be briefly
examined. Additionally, the use of non lethal weapons, such as Tasers, by police forces and how the
availability of these weapons influences the rate of deadly force will be inspected. Finally, an
elucidation of the various perceptions of the general public of the police after use of deadly force is
used within their communities will be addressed.

A Curious Incident Of The Dog
Mark Haddon s A Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, a mystery/bildungsroman novel, and
Sophie Laguna s The Eye of the Sheep, a family drama/bildungsroman novel, explore the way certain
factors can affect an individual s growth within a familial environment through similar themes
exhibited in both novels. Haddon and Laguna show their main characters Christopher and Jimmy
growing up within a dysfunctional family in 20th century Swindon and Melbourne, where each main

How Far Did Climates of 7th Century Arabia Contribute to...
The religious, social, political and economical climates of seventh century Arabia, also known as pre
Islamic Arabia, contributed immensely to the emergence of Islam.
Religious climates were one of the causes of the emergence of Islam.
At the time in the seventh century of Arabia, people lived in the days of ignorance, known as
Jahiliyah. During this period of time, people of Arabia worshipped idols and Arabia was considered a
God less region.
Before the time of Jahiliyah, a group of people, al Hanafiyyeen, followed the monotheistic teachings
of Abraham (Ibrahim). He alleged faith in one universal God, but after his death, Arabs returned to the
polytheistic society.

of Europe. They believed that Jesus was God and man at the same time.

The Monophysites originated in Egypt, Syria and were part of the tribes of North and South of Arabia.
They believed that Jesus was god and only appeared as man.
There was also a monotheistic religion called Zoroastrianism, of whom the people originated in Iran

In Abyssinia, there were two groups of people. One, the falashes, who were Jews, and two, the people

It would have been impossible for people of Arabia to be unaware of all these different type of

People of Arabia believed that the Ka bah was a shrine where pilgrims gathered to perform the

The Role of Men in D.H. Lawrence s Virgin and the Gypsy
The role of the male characters in The Virgin and the Gypsy by D.H. Lawrence can best be summed
up by Yvette s reaction to her sister s philosophy of marriage:
I m not sure one shouldn t have one s fling till one is twenty six , and then give in and marry!
This was Lucille s philosophy, learned from older women. Yvette was twenty one. It meant she had
five years to have this precious fling. And the fling meant, at the moment, the gypsy. The marriage, at
the age of twenty six, meant Leo or Gerry.
So, a woman could eat her cake and have her bread and butter (Lawrence, 99).

this book. It is also interesting that all three of these glimpses into the male mind are related in terms
of animals.
Bob expresses the feeling of being a stuffed duck while visiting with Mater. Leo expresses a dog like
interest in Yvette: Catty little bitch! he said to himself. But he was of the mastiff type, he rather liked
the kitten to fly in his face (Lawrence 64). Her father would never dare to face the fat worm of
disbelief, that stirred in his heart (Lawrence 38).
These animal metaphors keep men and women separate, almost in the same way that class keeps
Yvette separate from the servants. As long as she is a virgin, with her power being her vulnerability,
she is unable to quite see men as human. That s not unusual, though, since they seem to have trouble
identifying themselves as human.
The relationship of Yvette s grandmother, the Mater, and the Rector, her son, give Yvette a model for
feminine power. It is a negative power, a power through vulnerability. And through the weakness of
the unfresh, stagnant men she had bred, she kept her power (Lawrence 7).
Mater, through age, has transformed herself back into a virgin. She wields power in the family through
her very vulnerability. Mater s

Why We Shoud Go to Mars
Why We Should Go to Mars
Kenneth C. Brown II
Why We Should Go to Mars
Richard, an author for the website GOVTEEN Global Community, wrote an article briefly explaining
why we as a nation, should not go to Mars. Some of the key points of his argument against going to
Mars stressed that the financial cost would be too high, it would require several new spacecraft and
ground habitats, and several new technologies that currently do not exist. He also was concerned about
the budget cuts that have already stripped the National Aeronautical Space Administration (NASA) to
a shell of what the space program used to be. He also stressed that we are still in an armed conflict that
has put a strain on our nation, economically and emotionally. ... Show more content on

The American people find themselves frustrated with their elected officials now that there is a
government shutdown in effect with no immediate end in sight. The nation is once again in need of a
beacon, positive light to stand behind, something to fire the minds of the young and old, something to
inspire a nation to see beyond their frustration and anger.
Safely landing and returning humans from Mars, the closest Earth like planet in our solar system,
would be the biggest accomplishment for generations. It would capture the imagination of not only
our nation, but the world. From the initial launch, to the six month transit, to the landing. would help
to inspire new technologies for generations. The technology used to get the crew there and back,
would eventually find it s way into the private sector and enhance to lives of the average person or
household. Yes, it would be expensive: however the payoff would be worth the risk. When our space
program was in its infancy, racing against the Russians, it suffered many setbacks. We lost several
spacecraft to explosions on the launch pad, and lost crew members to horrific fires, as was the case in
the Apollo program. Millions of dollars were poured into the space program during that time, a lot of
money for that time period. Eventually it overcame its failures to succeed when it mattered.
There is also the competitive spirit that has historically driven our nation to try and be first in

Who Are The Most Powerful Characters In Macbeth
What does it mean to be powerful? In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, Macbeth is initially loyal to
the throne because he helps fight for Scotland and executes the rebel Thane of Cawdor. Later he
becomes a traitor by turning on King Duncan. After Macbeth s actions he falls to his terrible tragedy.
Although Macbeth s physical traits can be associated with being powerful, the weird sisters are the
most powerful characters because they can control the weather, alter sleep patterns, and predict the
future.
To begin, the witches reveal they can change the direction and force of the winds. After the first witch
tells her story about the sailor s wife, the second witch says what she will do about the sailor and his
wife. She says I ll give thee a wind (i.iii.12). The witch says that she is going to make the weather
outside windy to push his ship further out to sea. Knowing that the witches can make changes to the
weather shows they are powerful because they can create a storm at any given time, causing accidents
to occur. LIke in the real world, weather that is rainy/ windy ect is associated with unpleasant things
happening. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

he has been having nightmares. Macbeth is having trouble sleeping because the witches have made

Writing Is An Important Aspect
Essay Writing Essay writing is an important aspect, not just in the life of the average student, but also
every other person in general. This is because they are not only used by to assess the performance of
students, express ideas or develop creativity, but people regularly in their every day life also use them.
For instance, when writing resumes, in publication agencies such as magazines and newspapers,
writing contracts, journals, and for other reasons. There have been several improvements in my
writing process as I have been able to practice and learn more concerning essay writing. This has
helped to improve upon the basic knowledge I had about the subject, as I used to find it stressful when
writing essays. Writing requires certain processes that enable one to create a good and concise essay,
such as, pre writing, organizing, drafting, revising, and editing (Sims, Chan, and Sethuram 374). These
steps are necessary as they help one to generate ideas, plan the essay, make it easy to comprehend, and
also use time wisely. When organizing the essay, it should have a topic sentence or thesis in the
introduction, a body, and then the conclusion followed by salutations if required. With several
improvements in these areas, I have also been able to work on the grammar aspect of the essay,
including spelling, punctuations, and other areas. This helps make the audience or readers easily
understand the essay. With the help of the Foundations of

Whole Foods Business Strategy
In July of 2017, Amazon made headlines by stating they would be acquiring the Whole Foods grocery
chain. Much of the public questioned why an e commerce website such as Amazon would have any
interest in acquiring a grocery chain, but the answer is more obvious than outside observers may think.
By acquiring Whole Foods, Amazon is tapping into a larger market share of grocery consumers and
able to make a larger leap towards opening Amazon styled grocery stores across the world. Amazon
has grown into a company with many different facets since its founding in 1994. The company has
expanded into the market of video steaming services with AmazonPrime, online grocery services with
AmazonFresh, and even local grocery stores with AmazonGo. However, breaking into the grocery
market can be difficult for new companies, especially as an online marketplace. A poll conducted by

Audit and Assurance Services
Title: Audit Assurance services Introduction Advance in technology, globalization and
internationalization are affecting the method organizations are conducting businesses in the
contemporary business environment. Changes in the method that organizations employ in conducting
business also increase the danger of fraudulent financial reporting. Financial failures and high profile
scandals within business environment between 2000 and 2002 have necessitated market regulators to
call for scrutiny in the corporate financial reporting in the United States. The occurrence of fraudulent
practices within business environment made the stakeholders to call for risk management, governance
as well as increase in the scrutiny and quality in auditing and assurance. Following the WorldCom and
Euron s fraud scandals that eroded the confidence of investors in the United States, the government
focuses on the impact of external auditing practice on the quality of financial reporting. In 2001,
Euron Corporation filed for bankruptcy with $62 billion worth of assets. The downfall of Euron made
thousands of employees to lose their jobs making thousands of shareholders to lose their money. In
2002, WorldCom also filed for bankruptcy with $100 billion worth asset making Euron case appear
small in comparison. High profile scandals that swept across the United States between 2001 and 2002
have shown that quality auditing practice is very critical for the quality accounting and financial

Upon The Burning Of Our House By Edward Taylor
Thesis statement: Using the Calvinist/Puritan concept of Total Depravity/Inability and Demine non
sum dingus, compare and contrast Anne Bradstreet s poem Upon the Burning of Our House with
Edward Taylor s poem Prologue .
The poems under discussion are Anne Bradstreet s poem Upon the Burning of Our House and Edward
Taylor s poem Prologue.
Taylor s poem focused on the question that is: can any author be equal to god s grace? In the first line,
he compares himself to the crumb of dust which means he is indirectly saying that he is nothing
compare to the brilliant creations of God. He also gave some examples of God mighty creations like
the earth, all mountains, and the crystal sky. In his work, he is stating that he nothing in front of the
god. These verses clearly shows the concept of total inability because here the poet is finding himself
weak in front of the Supreme Being.
In his second stanza, he is saying that even the quill that he uses to write his work came from an angel.
Even when he will jot down some exquisite words, still his words will have errors and mistakes. But if
God will guide him and his hand he will do quite well. These verses states that the poet thinks that no
matter how much he tried, he won t be able to match the skills of god.
In the third stanza, he says that all his work, all his words are dedicated to God Almighty. The next
stanza also follows his thoughts. He says that the big mistakes of his writings may be overlooked and
even given

The Role of Class in Evelina Essay
The Role of Class in Evelina
What is the definition of class ? Burney expresses how class is viewed in the eighteenth century
society through the novel Evelina. In the novel, Burney exposes to the reader different classes of
characters from the aristocrats to the merchants to the commoners and to the prostitutes. Burney also
reveals how different character defines the word class. Madame Duval thinks money and material are
sufficient qualifications to belong to the high society. Mrs. Beaumont believes that a person s class is
set by birth; the social class one is born into defines one s social status. However, Burney seems to
disagree with both of the characters. Through the character of the heroine Evelina, Burney ... Show

Behind her back, he destroys her reputation by calling her a country nobody (pg35). Upon another

as a companion to Miss Mirvan. Being vicious as he is, He believes that by establish the commonality
of Evelina s social status, she will not be able to be accepted by the elite social class. Not only did
Burney point out the importance of social ranking, she, at the same time, exhibits the ill nature of
those who make use of such information regarding other peoples status to their advantage.
Burney seems to be criticizing the double standard treatment of people who lacks class and those who
has high status. She disapproves the conduct of people in the novel who have the characteristic that
appears to be changing with the tide. Mrs. Beaumont s character is satirically described as the absolute
Court Calendar bigot. (pg. 284) Her idea of class is illustrated by her belief that birth is virtue. Her
previous association with Evelina let her to believe that Evelina is a woman of quality. However, she

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE Have you ever known a person who smokes
and has a hard time doing every day activities, due to difficulty of breath, or constantly coughing. He
or she may have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD. COPD is a progressive and
treatable lung disease that causes shortness of breath due to obstruction of air way (COPD, 2013).
Progressive means that is gradually gets worse over time. It is a combination of chronic bronchitis and
emphysema (Causes,2014). Chronic bronchitis is inflammation of the bronchioles, which causes
mucus build up (Davis,2016). Emphysema is when the air sacs get enlarged (Smoking, 2016). Since
the disease does not have a cure yet it is important to know pathology (path of disease), epidemiology
(who is effected in a population), ethology (who is effected genetically), manifestation (symptoms),
treatment, and outcome.
First step preventing COPD is to know how it affects the body and the path taken; this is called the
pathology. In normal, healthy breathing a person breathes in air that is moves through the bronchial
tubes to the bronchioles. At the end of the bronchioles there are air sacs called alveoli. The alveoli are
elastic air sacs that control the gas exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide to the body (Smoking,
2016). The alveoli consist of elastic tissue so when a person breaths in the the alveoli can expand and
when the carbon dioxide is released it can deflate and return to it s normal size.

Simplicissimus Analysis
In Grimmelshausen s novel, Simplicissimus, the protagonist of the same name takes on a much
different position than seen in other picaresque novels. Simplicissimus becomes a master, employing
his own servants and gains a legitimate position in society. In the novel Lazarillo de Tormes the
protagonist is always serving someone else s interests. Lazarillo never has complete autonomy and
must rely on others for employment and to further his social status. Simplicissimus does not fit this

Compared to Simplicissimus, Lazarillo s highest ranking position is that of a city employee,
specifically the town crier. In this position, he is still reliant on businesses and the city itself in order to

the archbishop s maid Lazarillo hides their affair and in return he receives a whole load of corn; I get
my meat on Christmas and Easter, and now and again a couple of votive loaves or a pair of old
stockings (Lazarillo 59). Lazarillo s reliance on others to provide for him is a key feature of a
picaresque novel, unlike Simplicissimus who is able to live quite well on his own terms. Another way
Simplicissimus differs from other picaros is that due to his legitimate status he is able to employ
servants for extended periods of time. The most important are those he employs during his time as the
Huntsman. The first two servants he employs were as obedient as a pair of spaniels (Grimmelshausen
203). The servants loyalty was due to the fact that Simplicissimus always had plenty to eat and drink
and plenty of booty for them (Grimmelshausen 203). Simplicissimus excess is a key difference from
other picaros. He doesn t go hungry, is able to spend money freely, and has such an excess he can
routinely take on help. This consistency continues as much later in

Rebecca West in A Court and World Infected by the Disease of Corruption viciously, and perhaps
unfoundedly, attacks the virginity of Ophelia:
There is no more bizarre aspect of the misreading of Hamlet s character than the assumption that his
relations with Ophelia were innocent and that Ophelia was a correct and timid virgin of exquisite
sensibilities. . . . She was not a chaste young woman. That is shown by her tolerance of Hamlet s

He dismisses Hamlet s overtures as Affection, puh! Polonius considers Ophelia a green girl, incapable
of recognizing true love: These blazes . . . you must not take for fire. He gets her assurance that she

When the ghost talks privately to Hamlet, he learns not only about the murder of his father, but also
about the unfaithfulness and adultery of his mother. Gertrude was seduced by that incestuous, that
adulterate beast,/With witchcraft of his wit, with traitorous gifts Claudius himself prior to his brother s
passing. So lust, though to a radiant angel link d,/Will sate itself in a celestial bed,/And prey on

poisoned his father in the garden. Wilkie and Hurt say that Shakespeare is particularly fond of double
plotting (2156).
Ophelia is shortly affected by the protagonist s mad conduct. And immediately she goes to her father,
Polonius, to explain how she is so affrighted as a result of Hamlet s visit:

Comparative Essay On Spirited Away
Spirited Away is an animation, adventure, and family film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki
and Kirk Wise. Chihiro and her family are moving to the countryside when Chihiro s father makes a
wrong turn to a tunnel that leads to a town filled with all things supernatural. Throughout the movie,
Chihiro has been working in the spirit world so that pay off the debt and turn her parents back into
humans.
During the movie, I have found that I most relate to Chihiro because she goes through the hardships of
helping her family. Brave had been the movie I thought of while watching Spirited Away since the
daughters of both movies are doing what they can to reverse what happened to their families. While
watching the movie it made me think about the

The Pros And Cons Of Government Regulations
The creation, amendment, rejection or repealing of rules can be defined as rulemaking. Rules are
utilized by numerous sections of the government following a passed statue from Congress which can
also be referred to as regulations. Regulations do not begin in the executive branch of government
where agencies developed. They are created in the Congress, where they are the factors for the
establishment of the agency involved or function of an agency. The rules start with a legislative act of
Congress. Congress has enacted laws such as the Administrative Procedure Act, the Regulatory
Flexibility Act, the Paperwork Reduction Act, and the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act that require
some type of procedure, review, and/or analysis of draft rules by the rule making agencies themselves
or by outside parties (COPELAND, 2008).
Federal government agencies can issue more than four thousand completed rules each year. These
cover ever agency of government. The creation and implementation of rules costs hundreds of billions
of dollars. These are not part of the federal budget process and some think these are greater than the
cost of all federal domestic discretionary spending.
A particular agency can be mandated by Congress once a statue is passed requiring that agency to
develop a specific rule/rules to concede the statute requirements. Congress delivers an authorization to
deploy the rules. This translates to Congress passing a statute and ultimately does not have the

Chinese, meaning old Donewald. I am very excited to be here, the veteran bench tactician told fans.

When I Heard The Learn D Astronomer Analysis
The poems Oh Looking up by Chance at the Constellations by Robert Frost and When I heard the
Learn d Astronomer by Walt Whitman have many similarities and differences in their themes and
structures. Frost s and Whitman s poems are written in free verse which means that there is no defined
pattern or rhyme within the poems. The major difference between the poems structure is the use of end
stop and enjambment within the poems. Frost s poem uses both enjambment and end stop throughout
the poem. For example, The sun and moon get crossed, but they never touch,
Nor strike out fire from each other nor crash out loud. (5 6). Whitman s poem uses mostly
enjambment until the very end of the poem which is the only line of the poem with uses end

Descartes Second Meditation Essay
To gain a better understanding of readings in philosophy one must follow some important steps. Just
reading a passage once or twice is not enough as readings in regards to philosophy can sometimes be
overwhelming and complex, for first time readers to comprehend. Readers need to have good
comprehension skills and a good background in vocabulary. Maria, you stated, In the second
meditation, Descartes hits upon a belief which he cannot doubt. What is this belief and why is it
immune from doubt? Evaluate Descartes s claim about the certainty of this belief. I hope you have a
better understanding of Descartes second meditation after reading this. Descartes opens his First

Descartes thinks he finds a belief which he cannot doubt. What is this belief and why is it immune to
doubt? Descartes has convinced himself that there is nothing in the world; no sky, no earth, no minds,
no bodies. The text reads, does that follow that I don t exist either? No, it does not follow; for if I
convinced myself of something then I certainly existed. The Second Meditation Descartes first
interpretation is, This is the one thing that can t be separated from me. I am, I exist that is certain.
Descartes view seem to be I think, and since I think then I exist. And since I believe that I exist then
my belief would have to be true. No one can hold that as a false belief. At this point, Descartes is
reasonably certain he exists but he is unsure of what this I is. Descartes then briefly touch on the ideas
of a soul and what he knew the body to be. The text reads, It is only when I think I am certain that I
exist. This gives us on what is truly important to Descartes which is the fact that if one think, then they
must truly exist. Remember Descartes refers to himself as a thing think. Like I mention in the First
Meditation Descartes takes back what was said. As he is unsure of if he is one with the body or

Time Magazine History
Time magazine in the 20th century was a quick fix and a way for news to be summarized in a shorter
version. Founder Henry Luce who decided to establish this magazine with his partner allowed an idea
to go by that eventually turned into the invention of Time magazine. There was numerous of
newspapers where too much information couldn t be read at once and flipping through pages would
take up time. However, issues that were going on or events that were occurring would be within one
summary, which allows readers to give their thoughts and opinions on what they ve read. According to
Luce, he states that But this magazine is not founded to promulgate prejudices, liberal or conservative.

editor. Although he created the first multimedia corporation, his skillset to take visuals, pictures and
merge them into one big story changed journalism. Photojournalism which used captions to explain
daily life pictures was Luce s use to become better. Although he was a young student at Yale

Narby Research Chapter 5 Summary
Objective: In this chapter Narby researches past findings of intelligence in animals and plants. Some
examples include the self awareness of dolphins and crows creating tools. Narby s definition of
intelligence seems to change to being capable of consciously making decisions.
Subjective: One part of this chapter I was able to associate to was the part about parrots answering
questions. I could relate to this because I remember seeing a parrot identify shapes once while I was
on vacation. Initially it blew my mind, but I later convinced myself it was a routine, however now it
makes sense, parrots are capable of learning.
i) The problem with these definitions of intelligence, is that they can only be applied to humans. So
based off of these definitions, no other species can be intelligent even if they act in such ways that
would require intelligence (43 44) ii) Monod didn t believe there was intelligence in nature. He
thought the scientific method meant that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much like the scientists in previous chapters, Martin Giurfa thinks bees are much more than the
machines they had been referred to as by Monod. Narby mentions how Giurfa s studies showed that
bees could grasp abstract concepts like identifying corresponding images to find a reward. The bees
were even able to figure out to recognize and match new patterns after the original image was
changed.
Subjective: I am conflicted about this experiment because it s cool and cruel at the same time. I think
it s cool that bees are able to learn to match corresponding images to find food, meaning that they are
able to learn new processes for finding food. However, it is also cruel because Narby mentions that
once the bees got to the food, they repeatedly tried flying straight up, hitting a plexiglass cover,
instead of exiting through the tubes. This means that even though the bees were successful, they

  • 2. They Re Not Your Husband Summary They re Not Your Husband is a short story written by Raymond Carver and published in 1973. Raymond Carver is a minimalist writer, which provides his short stories with an economy with words, adverbs and a focus on surface description. This allows the context to dictate meaning. Therefore, the reader has an active role in the creation of the short story; to choose side based on inclined innuendo and hints. Over a period of three years towards the end of the nineteenth century a number of prostitutes were murdered under different circumstances the murder of prostitutes was not an especially unique occurrence during those times but several of the murders drew particular attention on account of the savagery with which the victim s bodies were mutilated. Even the identification of bodies was dependent largely upon facial recognition, distinguishing marks, or papers on the corpse. Misidentification of bodies, either by accident or design, especially those subject to decomposition and including the very many corpses pulled from the Thames, must have been commonplace. Fingerprinting was still in the process of being developed. A classification scheme appeared in 1901 and first used in a trial in the UK in 1902. Dental records were non existent and blood grouping only developed after the identification of the different types in 1901. From that it became possible to serologically identify other body fluids. Ammaniti s novel I m Not Scared set in Acqua Traverse, Italy 1978 is a powerful text, which explores relevant social themes and issues. • 8. Economic Impact Of The Clean Power Plan This paper explores the economic impact the Clean Power Plan, as proposed by President Obama, would have on the coal industry and on society as a whole. The plan, also known as the CPP, has a goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by the year 2030. Many proponents of the coal industry claim that the CPP would harm the United States economy with little positive impact on the environment. The White House, other government agencies, scholarly organizations, and organizations regarding the protection of human health and the environment dispute these claims, stating that the CPP would actually lead to a net increase in employment, increased air quality, and an overall healthier society, all while promoting the renewable energy sector. After analyzing the data from both sides, it was determined in this paper that the overall benefits of the Clean Power Plan outweigh the costs, therefore the plan should go forward as planned. Introduction On August 3, 2015, President Obama announced new carbon pollution standards for power plants under the Clean Power Plan (CPP).[1] The purpose of the plan was to decrease carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to promote better air quality. If the parent sells between 50% and 100% of its subsidiary shares, on the other hand, and the subsidiary s business is important to the parent, there is a strong argument in support of needing shareholder approval. The requirement for shareholder approval is significant because proxy materials must be mailed, a shareholder meeting must be organized and approval must be obtained before the transaction can be completed. If the parent s shares are registered under the Exchange Act, proxy materials must comply with Regulation 14A and meet disclosure requirements. While proxy materials should disclose the material terms of the offering, details such as final price and size of the offering are typically not determined until the registration statement is effective, which creates a risk that the parent will not be able to meet its disclosure obligations. As a blind poet, his lack of visual faculties was augmented by a renewed importance on auditory paths to enlightenment, especially the communicative. In addition, here, as throughout much the poem, Satan continues to hedge the other side of the argument, insisting that he isn t forced to do evil by opposing God, but that to do ill our sole delight (160). Quite to the contrary, Milton makes it clear that the will And high permission of all ruling Heaven Left him at large to his own dark designs (211 3). And it is only Satan s perverted sense of reason that convinces him that The mind is its own place, and in itself Can make a Heav n of Hell, a Hell of Heav n (254 5). This is the classic method of the delusional and disenfranchised, holding out hope for change, but at the same time putting forth the belief that the current situation can actually be beneficial. The sophistry has shown through Satan s speech, as he declares that there is no way for God to beat him, in his mind, when we know he is already defeated. Some of the key points of his argument against going to Mars stressed that the financial cost would be too high, it would require several new spacecraft and ground habitats, and several new technologies that currently do not exist. He also was concerned about the budget cuts that have already stripped the National Aeronautical Space Administration (NASA) to a shell of what the space program used to be. He also stressed that we are still in an armed conflict that has put a strain on our nation, economically and emotionally. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The American people find themselves frustrated with their elected officials now that there is a government shutdown in effect with no immediate end in sight. The nation is once again in need of a beacon, positive light to stand behind, something to fire the minds of the young and old, something to inspire a nation to see beyond their frustration and anger. Safely landing and returning humans from Mars, the closest Earth like planet in our solar system, would be the biggest accomplishment for generations. It would capture the imagination of not only our nation, but the world. From the initial launch, to the six month transit, to the landing. would help to inspire new technologies for generations. The technology used to get the crew there and back, would eventually find it s way into the private sector and enhance to lives of the average person or household. Yes, it would be expensive: however the payoff would be worth the risk. When our space program was in its infancy, racing against the Russians, it suffered many setbacks. We lost several spacecraft to explosions on the launch pad, and lost crew members to horrific fires, as was the case in the Apollo program. Millions of dollars were poured into the space program during that time, a lot of money for that time period. Eventually it overcame its failures to succeed when it mattered. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE Have you ever known a person who smokes and has a hard time doing every day activities, due to difficulty of breath, or constantly coughing. He or she may have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD. COPD is a progressive and treatable lung disease that causes shortness of breath due to obstruction of air way (COPD, 2013). Progressive means that is gradually gets worse over time. It is a combination of chronic bronchitis and emphysema (Causes,2014). Chronic bronchitis is inflammation of the bronchioles, which causes mucus build up (Davis,2016). Emphysema is when the air sacs get enlarged (Smoking, 2016). Since the disease does not have a cure yet it is important to know pathology (path of disease), epidemiology (who is effected in a population), ethology (who is effected genetically), manifestation (symptoms), treatment, and outcome. First step preventing COPD is to know how it affects the body and the path taken; this is called the pathology. In normal, healthy breathing a person breathes in air that is moves through the bronchial tubes to the bronchioles. At the end of the bronchioles there are air sacs called alveoli. The alveoli are elastic air sacs that control the gas exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide to the body (Smoking, 2016). Regulations do not begin in the executive branch of government where agencies developed. They are created in the Congress, where they are the factors for the establishment of the agency involved or function of an agency. The rules start with a legislative act of Congress. When I Heard The Learn D Astronomer Analysis The poems Oh Looking up by Chance at the Constellations by Robert Frost and When I heard the Learn d Astronomer by Walt Whitman have many similarities and differences in their themes and structures. Frost s and Whitman s poems are written in free verse which means that there is no defined pattern or rhyme within the poems. Descartes has convinced himself that there is nothing in the world; no sky, no earth, no minds, no bodies. The text reads, does that follow that I don t exist either? No, it does not follow; for if I convinced myself of something then I certainly existed. The Second Meditation Descartes first interpretation is, This is the one thing that can t be separated from me. I am, I exist that is certain. Descartes view seem to be I think, and since I think then I exist. And since I believe that I exist then my belief would have to be true. No one can hold that as a false belief. At this point, Descartes is reasonably certain he exists but he is unsure of what this I is. Descartes then briefly touch on the ideas of a soul and what he knew the body to be. The text reads, It is only when I think I am certain that I exist. This gives us on what is truly important to Descartes which is the fact that if one think, then they must truly exist. • 52. Narby Research Chapter 5 Summary Objective: In this chapter Narby researches past findings of intelligence in animals and plants. Some examples include the self awareness of dolphins and crows creating tools. Narby s definition of intelligence seems to change to being capable of consciously making decisions. Subjective: One part of this chapter I was able to associate to was the part about parrots answering questions. I could relate to this because I remember seeing a parrot identify shapes once while I was on vacation. Initially it blew my mind, but I later convinced myself it was a routine, however now it makes sense, parrots are capable of learning. i) The problem with these definitions of intelligence, is that they can only be applied to humans. So based off of these definitions, no other species can be intelligent even if they act in such ways that would require intelligence (43 44) ii) Monod didn t believe there was intelligence in nature. He thought the scientific method meant that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much like the scientists in previous chapters, Martin Giurfa thinks bees are much more than the machines they had been referred to as by Monod. Narby mentions how Giurfa s studies showed that bees could grasp abstract concepts like identifying corresponding images to find a reward. The bees were even able to figure out to recognize and match new patterns after the original image was changed. Subjective: I am conflicted about this experiment because it s cool and cruel at the same time. I think it s cool that bees are able to learn to match corresponding images to find food, meaning that they are able to learn new processes for finding food. However, it is also cruel because Narby mentions that once the bees got to the food, they repeatedly tried flying straight up, hitting a plexiglass cover, instead of exiting through the tubes. This means that even though the bees were successful, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
