First-Year Writing Project Analysis
This proposal explores how hip hop can help accomplish the CCCC s stated goals on multiple
discourses and community engagement. Hip hop can serve as a valuable tool to help them implement
those goals at the University of Nevada, Reno s core writing program. Our analysis will focus on
using hip hop to broaden perspectives included in academic conversations and to empower students to
write as members of their community. While we understand that hip hop may be a controversial genre
to include in the core writing curriculum, we propose that its inclusion is not at odds with both the
CCCC s and UNR s core writing program, but can in fact be a valuable asset towards reaching those
goals. We believe that first year writing students will benefit from ... Show more content on

Kendrick is one of the most popular rappers working right now, and his participation in that kind of
discussion illustrates that his genre shouldn t preclude him from being taken seriously. We find
ourselves in a time no less rich with artistic genius of all kinds, and Fanon s poignant expression of the
connection between art and the life it seeks to articulate should serve as a reminder not to forget that
art of all kinds, and from all kinds, can help us determine and express truth. Nowhere is that lesson
more vital than in hip hop, and its relationship with academia. Currently, while a relationship between
them seems to at least exist, rap is treated as a novelty, perhaps being taught in a upper division
classes, or as a study of the workings of genre conventions. What is largely ignored is the fact that rap,
like other forms of writing, exists not in a vacuum, but as a product of different communities, and of

Why Are We Illegalize Drugs
In 2009 alone, the United States Customs and Border Protection seized 135,943 pounds of cocaine,
2,015 pounds of heroin, 4,330,475 pounds of marijuana and 6,135 pounds of methamphetamines. That
is all the drugs that were intercepted; there are much more that get through the borders into the United
States. Although the amount of marijuana is large, the United States is the largest consumer of cocaine
which is illegally transported from Colombia through Mexico and the Caribbean. The illegal
trafficking of drugs into the United States has causes many problems such as turf wars, gun wars,
police conflict and civilian retaliation. In Florida, twenty six people were indicted during a gang turf

Upon examining the incident, the Mexican and United States government came to the conclusion that
the gun men sought out the couple to steal their truck. Many people see this act as an escalation of
violence; killing a couple just to take their car. A sheriff in Texas, whose jurisdiction is on the other
side of the Rio Grande from Mexico, sees that the borders are not are not authoritative. He states that,
The feds say our side of the border is safe, but we have bullet holes in our schools and businesses that

Gonzalez s police force stated, Our weapons are like squirt guns against their big guns and they want
to own our turf (Mendoza). Stopping them is a matter of life and death for our citizens, we need to
keep our citizens safe by stopping them by any means possible. These effects of illegal trafficking of

The Emergence Of Market Society
The whole society has become a market. Societies used to consist of people that were governed by
certain ideologies, laws, and practices. Being driven by capitalism, society has developed everything
into a commodity, in which we now call a market society. Other socio economic communities
historically had concepts that were different from what is predominated in our present society. The
emergence of market society establishes the great transformation from a traditional society to a market
economy that has greatly impacted societal workplaces, and beliefs around ideological conditions. The
emergence of market society starts with the self regulating system called the market economy
(Polanyi, 1957, P. 68). Self regulation indicates that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, the Industrial Revolution lead to the great transformation of the market society. The
economy grew and people used labour as commodity that endures the greatest societal consequence.
Since the market relied on this commodity, human rights were at a disadvantage to the economy.
There is no such thing as a self regulating market because people believe that the economy can build a
system based on false commodities (Polanyi, 1957, P. 75). Society faces an economic problem that
provides for the material well being of the society, meaning we produce and exchange the basic
necessities in order to survive. If mankind does not live by bread alone, it is obvious that it cannot live
without bread (Heilbroner, P. 1). The economic problem arises because human nature struggles for
existence which is derived from scarcity (Heilbroner, 1993, P. 4). This problem presents itself
critically and uniquely as it is shown through economic history that people struggle for survival.
Society has to organize a system of providing enough production for everyone and being able to
distribute them properly. Other than market society, there are two other overarching systems found in
other societies, tradition and command. For a traditional economy, production and distribution are
constructed by procedures designed

The American Culture Of Strict Conformity Accounts
An American culture of strict conformity accounts for the rise of the phenomenon known as the Red
Scare, as well as its widespread nature and prominent power. The Red Scare was complicated and a
result of many different aspects of American culture. However the American culture in the 1950 s was
one of strict conformity. This conformist society, created in the late 1940 s was created by many early
discoveries that uncovered Communist members as Soviet spies. There arose a prevalent belief that
anyone who thought differently was unpatriotic. This conformist nature of American society thus
resulted in few organizations fighting for social justice. The Communist party therefore attracted a
wide range of liberals from different aspects of life. Joseph McCarthy himself, along with many other
governmental officials, was able to institute anti communist laws and practices under the pretense that
an unwavering conformity was the American goal. The conformist nature of American society in the
1950 s created one of the most powerful anti communist crusades and allowed for a dominant Red
Scare.
McCarthyism rose to power so quickly in the late 1940 s and the early 1950 s because the perception
of an internal Communist threat had just enough plausibility to be convincing . Americans feared that
communists who would overthrow the government were a realistic threat . During World War Two
there were many Soviet spies that had infiltrated many aspects of American covert operations. Alger

General Motors Recall Crisis Essay
Introduction The beginning of the General Motors recall crisis was the alleged failure by the company
to recall its faulty cars on time, despite having known about the ignition switch problem, which
persisted over a decade. The aforementioned design flaw in over a million vehicles, which caused
hundreds of fatalities, was well known by the company s management, before the decision to recall
the faulty vehicles. Ethical issues relate to the recall crisis concern GM s favoring cover up over legal

The Gold Bridge And The Bridge Collapse
Silver Bridge
4.1 Background
The Point Pleasant Bridge or so called the Silver Bridge was designed by the J.E. Greiner Company
and built by the Gallia County Ohio River Bridge Company to connect Point Pleasant, West Virginia
to Gallipolis, Ohio. It was designed as a two lane eye bar suspension type bridge, measuring 2,235 feet
in total length, including the approaches. The bridge was the first eye bar suspension bridge of its type
to be constructed in the United States. [26] Figure 4.1: The Bridge before collapse. [26] During the
early evening of December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge collapsed during a period of heavy traffic and
46 people were killed. Another nine people were injured. Of the 37 vehicles on the bridge, 31 fell
during the collapse. After some forty years of service, the Point Pleasant Bridge collapsed without
warning. [27] Figure 4.2: The Bridge after collapse. [26] The bridge was constructed of carbon steel,
which tends to crack. Many cracks were found throughout the bridge among extensive corrosion.
Upon investigation, it was found that the collapse was due to a defective eye bar that experienced a
cleavage fracture in the lower part of its head which was resulted from stress corrosion and corrosion
fatigue. [26] Since the eye bars were not designed to be redundant, failure in one eye bar would
disrupt the continuity of the suspension system. This disruption is what caused the bridge to collapse
suddenly. The location of the flaw

The United States And The Holocaust
What exactly was the difference? He wondered to himself. And who decided which people wore the
striped pajamas and which people wore the uniforms a quote from The Boy with the Striped Pajamas.
The Holocaust was a genocide, the intentional killing of certain group or ethnicity, that affected the
Jewish community worldwide through sorrow and sympathy of their people; and kibitzers who chose
to watch until under pressure. A perfect example was the United States who stood on the sidelines,
while the horrific events of the Holocaust were occurring. The United States had played a negative
role in the Holocaust due to a lack of aid, immigration, and publication.
During the Holocaust there was a lack of aid from America to those suffering in Europe. President at
the time of the Holocaust, Franklin D. Roosevelt, had been leading a country of antisemitism, meaning
to be against the Jewish. As mention in The Us and the Holocaust Project Group: Antisemitism page
by Lauren Freeman, Antisemitism was habited with in Congress, and the general public of the United
States; which will be further elaborated later in the paper.
By the time the Holocaust had come into play America was already filled with people who had a
prejudice against the Jewish, believing that all Jews were greedy and dishonest, found in the article
The Us and the Holocaust Project Group: Antisemitism. Although full of antisemitism, the U.S. also
had a Jewish supportive community. Those who supported the Jewish believed

Why A Construction Worker Should Have A Degree In...
With any occupation there must some type of education earned in order to be hired. Most jobs require
a minimum high school diploma. Education can involve experience or a degree from a university.
Some occupations require experience before being concerned about degrees, and a construction
occupation is an example of this. The standard education for a construction worker is a high school
diploma, associate s degree, and 3 4 years of apprenticeship. The associate s degree is optional
depending on the company. To obtain the title of manager the education is a little different. A worker
must still have a high school diploma but they also need a bachelor s degree involving management or
architecture. A minimum of 5 years of experience is also required to achieve management status. ...

Construction is always demanded because there are always repairs needed or new buildings being

Black Holes Research Paper
Throughout the lifespan of galaxies and universes, interstellar objects are created and destroyed
including stars, asteroids, nebulas, and black holes. One of the rarest interstellar creations are black
holes, of which are only found in three forms. These three forms include stellar, supermassive, and
intermediate black holes. Black holes are mysteries that were not fully understood until the beginning
of the 20th century, when multiple scientist focused their research on them. They predicted theories
and made many discoveries. These scientists include Sir Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, John Wheeler,

They are scattered throughout the galaxies. A stellar black hole is the product of the death of a giant
star such as a pulsar or a neutron star. Black holes in general are very rare because most stars are not
massive enough to create them. When a star stops producing fusion energy, the equilibrium of the star
no longer exists. Without the star producing any fuel, there is no pressure created that can hold the star
in place. The pressure that a star creates is used to prevent the gravity from crushing the core. Now
that there is no pressure pushing outward, the gravity becomes so violent that it crushes matter to the
point that it is completely destroyed. At this point, black holes are born. Black holes are created in rare
occasions. During the death of most stars, they slowly dim out or explode into trillions of microscopic
particles. For example, the sun, which is a red dwarf, will slowly die out. Eta Carinae on the other
hand, located 8,000 light years away from Earth, is likely to explode within the next several hundred

Kant On Good Will
Nothing is good without limitation, except good will.
Our character traits, temperament, and talents can be good or evil, beneficial or harmful.
Even our good fortune (properties we are born into or receive by chance) can be used for good or
arrogantly; good will bends it to good purpose.
Anyone (rational impartial spectator) would be dissatisfied upon seeing another person lacking good
will yet enjoying life s riches.
Thus, good will is a necessary condition for deserving happiness.
Even those qualities (here he considers moderation, self control, and sober reflection) which support
good will cannot be held as absolutely good (good without limitation); they still require a good will.
Good will has supreme value by virtue of its consideration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Surely, then, reason serves not the aim of happiness, but another aim for existence possessing much
more dignity.
This other aim is the highest good, for which reason is a necessary ingredient. For natural ends,
instinct (drives to satisfy hunger, thirst, and the need for shelter) is sufficient; however, the greatest
good demands reason. This is so because the greatest good may adversely affect the individual who by
reason is contemplating a course of action.
Kant then discusses the concept of duty: does it always serve the good, or can it also be self serving?
Even the preservation of life must be considered as either conforming with duty or arising from duty, a
moral obligation. Thus, only actions which have moral value can be sufficiently described as duty.
Happiness is a powerful motivator; lack thereof can lead one to violate one s duties.
Motivation to satisfy one inclination and achieve happiness in the present can outweigh consideration
of a later (i.e., more distant temporally) consequence. Abiding by one s duty to achieve happiness
provides moral value.
Thus, love as a duty can be commanded; such love is practical and based on the will not melting

Louisville And Nashville R. V. Mottley Summary
Case Citation: Louisville and Nashville R. Co. v. Mottley, 211 U.S. 149 (1908)
Parties: Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company, Petitioner E.L Mottley and Annie E. Mottley,
Defendants
Facts: E.L. Mottley and his wife, Annie E. Mottley, (plaintiffs) were passengers on board a train
operated by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company (defendants). Both the plaintiffs and the
defendant are citizens of the state of Kentucky. The plaintiffs, while passengers on board a train, were
injured in a train wreck on September 7, 1871. The defendants offered the injured plaintiffs a free pass
from the defendant s railroad company in exchange for the agreement that they would not bring suit
upon the defendant. The plaintiffs accepted the free passes which would be renewed yearly. Several
decades later, in 1906, a law was passed by the U.S. Congress banning free railroad passes. This was
passed in order to prevent bribery on government workers and officials. This caused the defendant to
refuse the plaintiffs renewal of their free passes in which they then filed suit for specific performance
in the Circuit Court for the Western District of Kentucky. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

They also argued that if the law passed by congress did apply to them then the law should be
considered unconstitutional due to the law depriving the defendants their property without due process

Circuit court overruled and awarded relief to the plaintiffs. The defendants then appealed straight to

Zootopia Film Analysis
Leadership Film Analysis
Disney s Zootopia is a great depiction of James Kouzes s and Barry Posner s Five Practices of
Exemplary Leadership. The main protagonist, Judy Hopps, exemplifies those practices model the way,
inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart.
The first practice is model the way. According to Kouzes and Posner (2014), in order to model the
way a leader must clarify values by finding your voice and affirming shared values and set the
example by aligning actions with shared values. In the beginning of the movie Judy is putting on a
play and at the end she talks about how Zootopia is a place where you can be anything you want to be.

She also enlisted others at the end of the movie when she made her speech. During that speech, Judy
says, try to make the world a better place by accepting and understanding others. By asking the people
of Zootopia to try to understand each other she is appealing to the shared aspiration of making
Zootopia safer and a place where you can be anything you want to be.
The third practice is challenge the process. According to Kouzes and Posner (2014), challenging the

innovative ways to improve and experiment and take risks by constantly generating small wins and
learning from experience . Judy challenged the process by seizing the initiative and taking the otter

enlisting Nick, Judy found an innovative way to take on the case because Nick was a criminal and

Domestic Violence Is A Major Issue Throughout Today s...
Domestic violence is a major issue throughout today s society, and the domestic violence spotlight
usually shines in the direction of professional sports. The less than glamorous limelight usually shines
upon major sports leagues including the NBA, NHL, (DeGette). NFL, and NASCAR. (Taylor). From
all of the recent controversy, one thing is clear; domestic violence cases should be left to U.S.
Congress due to the sports leagues rule violations against the offenses. The Commissioners of all of
the sports teams, a.k.a. the police of the leagues, often do not take a stance against domestic violence
issues or charges, unless these felons are put into the public eye, causing the league to lose appeal.

fiancé, although he definitely is not the only one. (Taylor). NASCAR star Kurt Bush has also been
accused of abusing his girlfriend during the peak of his career. (Taylor).
People blame domestic violence occurring through sports for various reasons, but there is truly no
reason for domestic violence. In contact sports, players are trained to use violence and intimidation,
and after they have been trained to enforce that for so long, there is no on/off switch to stop said
aggression. ( Out ). Athletes are supposed to be a symbol of manliness, and domestic violence can
create such forms of masculine unity. ( Out ). This sense of unity can spawn from the common locker
room talks about physical and sexual aggression towards women as an attempt to fit in with the peers
on their team. (Cord). Wins and losses also play a huge role in the occurrence of domestic violence. If
a team experiences an at home upset, then the chance of domestic violence occurring increases by ten
percent. (Cord). Sadly, this outrageous statistic doesn t affect the athletes alone, but their dedicated
fans. (Cord).
Athletes are more prone to domestic violence than the Average Joe due to some of the factors
previously stated. ( Out ). Some people believe that the media portrays this felony to be worse in
sports leagues than it genuinely is, but let the

Feminist Analysis Of Paradise Lost By John Milton

Feminist Analysis of Paradise Lost
The Book of Genesis is an introductive biblical passage in the Old Testament that summarizes the
creation of the universe, humanity, and the downfall of man. Writer John Milton gives an alternate
version of this phenomenon in his epic Paradise Lost that illustrates not only the consequences of
disobedience from God, but the distinct gender differences between men and women. Through the
perspective of feminist literary criticism, the portrayal of male domination and the inferiority of
women are exemplified by the status, stereotypes, and roles women are assigned in Literature that has
consequently transcended into western ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example of the inferiority of women is illustrated in Book Two whereby Satan is attracted to
a beautiful woman who is half woman and half snake (Ricks 87). Emphasizing that her lower half is a
serpent suggests that the vaginal area of women, or the seductive parts, makes women sly and
fraudulent, a correlation to the snake found in the Garden of Eden. Furthermore, it is noted that the
creature is lured by the smell of infant blood, reinforcing the stereotypical role that women are
enslaved to the dynamics of motherhood.
When Satan planned his rebellion, his head burst into flames. The serpent woman, also known as his
daughter Sin, grew out of Satan s head because of his revolt. Sin can be compared to the creation of
Eve in that both women are created from their partners. Eve was created from Adam s rib and Sin was
created from Satan s head. Paradise Lost infers that women, who are symbolized by Eve and Sin,
could not have originated nor prosper without the help of a man and that women are dependent on
their male counterparts. In the epic, Sin and her father Satan conceive their son, Death. Milton uses the
names of Satan s children to illustrate that sin and death are the consequences of disobedience from
God. Moreover, Sin, a woman, is weaker than her male family members. The incestuous act between
Sin and Satan yields Sin to be

Compare the concept of economies of scale with economies of scope. Both concepts have same

Healthy Vs Non Healthy Lifestyle
A healthy versus a non healthy lifestyle, many have questioned which is the greater of the two. You
have many strong arguments on both sides, but to date they have been inconclusive. The simplicity of
the everyday events have caused many to question the argument. We have seen several model athletes
who have lived a strict healthy lifestyle simply fall to their death at no avail. Then on the other hand
we have others who do not restrain themselves, yet they live long prosperous lives. One can choose to
adhere to either lifestyles, but only the human body will know how it ultimately reacts. Living a
healthy lifestyle is a conflation of several factors. One is not able to live a healthy lifestyle without a
nutritional diet, adequate sleep, routine exercise, and reduced stress. A healthy lifestyle is about
finding happiness and balance. The key factor is learning to avoid detrimental situations, triggers and
substances that decrease ones overall health. None the less, one must form a platform based on healthy
morals and principles in order to live life to its fullest potential. It is important to build a strong inner
immune system, which in turn will fight to maintain a healthy body both inside and out.
Part of living a healthy lifestyle is eating a well balanced diet. A balanced diet or a good diet consists
of three basic macronutrients proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. The amount of protein in your diet
should consist of about 10% to 35% it comes from sources such

Amusing Ourselves To Death Chapter 1 Summary
2. According to Amusing Ourselves to Death, Toward the end of the nineteenth century, for reasons I
am most anxious to explain, the Age of Exposition began to pass, and the early signs of its
replacement could be discerned. Its replacement was to be the Age of Show Business (Postman,
Chapter 4 Page # 63 ,). Today as we have entered into that age with the Internet it can grab attention
because it is entertaining and overloading the public with information so they will be involved.
However, we are choosing sound bytes or entertainment over actual knowledge and forgetting it
quickly and on to the next big story. This is the now this effect that Postman discussed, of course, in

And most important of all, there is no subject of public interest politics, news, education, religion, and
science, sports that does not find its way to television. Which means that all public understanding of
these subjects is shaped by the biases of television (Postman, 2005). According to Salon, Postman
shared the idea with Mcluhan that technology is not neutral he said now our truth moves with our
technology advancements. Postman was not just worried about the way we use our technology but
how our technology is using us. Postman made clear where his values were: Some ways of truth
telling are better than others, and therefore have a healthier influence on the cultures that adopt them.
What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no
reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one (Salon). As Postman states,
Tyrants of all varieties have always known about the value of providing the masses with amusements
as a means of pacifying discontent. But most of them could not have even hoped for a situation in
which the masses would ignore that which does not amuse. That is why tyrants have always relied,
and still do, on censorship. Censorship, after all, is the tribute tyrants pay to the assumption that a
public knows the difference between serious discourse and entertainments and cares. Huxley feared

Fair Value Accounting Is Worth Being Used
There have been many debates in previous decades amongst the investors, users of the financial
statements, on whether fair value accounting is worth being used. According to IFRS 13, fair value is
the price that would be received to sell an asset or paid to transfer a liability in an orderly transaction
between market participants at the measurement date . Usage of fair value has advantages, however, it
has disadvantages as well. This essay will discuss how fair value is more advantageous than
disadvantageous and how it is carried out. It will also examine how fair value led Lehman Brothers, an
American investment bank, into bankruptcy during the global financial crisis and why the trend of fair
value has emerged in the recent decades. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is beneficial for the investors as it means that they can be confident that their decisions are
correct and that the finances of the business will not suddenly change.
Bubble prices can be an issue for investors as it may mislead them into making poor investing
decisions. There is plenty of empirical evidence to show that bubble prices exist (Ryan, 2008). These
price bubbles, according to Penman (2007), are introduced into financial statements through the usage
of fair value accounting. He goes on to say that this causes bubble gains to reflect on the income
statement, and these may, falsely, show the company as being healthy which could lull investors into a
false sense of security. These bubbles also result in the investor receiving ineffective financial
statements which will impair their decision making. An example of this would be where investors pay
prices that far exceed their own valuation (Scheinkman and Xiong, 2003). This would make it tough
for investors to earn a reasonable return on their investments. However, the research fails to consider
the difficulties locating price bubbles or how investors can prevent themselves from being misled. It
also fails to consider that bubble prices show the current trading price, albeit inflated, and therefore
show the true value of the investment according to current prices.

The Similarities Between Classical Music and Ellington s Jazz
One of the greatest tragedies in the 20th century can be seen in the debasing of the Jazz genre as a
unworthy equal to it s predecessor, European Classical music. This can be seen in various statements
about Jazz, such as Boris Gibalin commit, The Jazz Mania has taken on the character of a lingering
illness and must be cured by means of forceful intervention. 1 This conflict can be traced through out
the history of Jazz, as Classical composers have relatively disregarded this new type of music. Before
Duke Ellington s Cotton Club performances, Jazz play on the radio was delegated for late night
audience only. This sub culture treatment has led many critics to disregard the Jazz movement as a
dance craze, or unsuccessful recreations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To most people the infusion of African tonality into Duke Ellington s music to create Negro art ,
questions the connection between European music and Jazz. Here Constant Lambert responds to this.
If anyone doubts the essential element of European sophistication in Jazz, it is a simple matter for his
to compare a typical piece of Jazz, such as Duke Ellington Swampy River, first with a lyric by Grieg
and then with a record of African music. It must be clear to even the most prejudiced listener that apart
from a few rhythmical peculiarities the Ellington piece has far more in common with the music of
Grieg 6
One must understand that even when Duke infused the two tonalities of music; he still was obligated
to work within guidelines of the European Harmonic tradition.7 Yet by him keeping with this tradition
he is not obligated to write music in the form of previous composers such as Stravinsky, Mozart, or
Bach, for to do that would delegate Ellington s music as a duplicate work. Here is the contradiction,
for no Classical composer has ever been chastise for creativity in their sound, and yet how do you
explain the criticism of Ellington s work? The intentional fusing of African and European tonality is
nothing more than a continuation of numerous inventive techniques used by musicians as seen in the
changing sounds and techniques of Classical music over time? Thus to criticize Duke for his
originality one would also have

with which Forster depicted the socio psychological dilemma of Anglo Indians during the period of

the psychological dilemma of Anglo Indians who wish to call India home. In this article, I will
highlight the process of formatting (i.e. the process by which is created the coloniser and his

community of the colony. I will also highlight those moments when Forster could not help but feel the
gulf that separates him from the Indians. Further, I will focus on the problem of race relations. Such

through various empires, and although he was also trying to aid Christians who needed help in foreign

Jose Marti Rhetorical Analysis
José Martí s Stance on the Government s Role in Ensuring Virtuosity
Through the writings of José Martí, a reader witnesses his strong love for justice, virtue, and duty. His
writings illustrate, with fantastic diction, Martí s profound distaste for those who are not virtuous;
specifically governments that are not virtuous. The theme that is consistently found in the work of
Martí is his belief that the government is ultimately responsible for the acts carried out by its citizens.
He believes that the government creates the monsters which it so desperately attempts to eliminate.
And, in multiple essays, Martí makes clear that he believes the only way to prevent the acts of these
monsters is by the government leading its citizens to a life of virtuosity through their own
demonstration of such character.
Martí follows the several key trials that he believes provide evidence for the government s need to
accept responsibility for what is done by its citizens. In, The trial of Guiteau, the reader learns about
Charles J. Guiteau who was convicted in the killing of President Garfield. In this essay, Martí is
adamant about ensuring that no one forgives the convicted murderer for his deed. In one sentence
Martí states, He does not arouse pity; he does not arouse forgiveness; he arouses no desire to excuse
him and goes on to say, There is no place for him in men s hearts, only in their hatred (95). Yet, the
irony of his statements becomes evident through the sentence immediately following the latter when
Martí explains that Reason demands that his [the convicted murderer] life be spared because he
believes that killing the monster is inadequate way of ending power s nature to grow monsters... (95).
Thus, while Martí strongly believes that no forgiveness should be shown to Guiteau, he still believes
that Guiteau deserves to live because his execution would not change the reason why it happened.
Instead, Martí believes that only the government can prevent what happened by changing what caused
it. Moreover, it could be loosely said that he does not believe the Guiteau is responsible for the death
of the president; instead he believes that the government under which Guiteau lived is responsible.
Ultimately, Martí

Mary Magdalene
In this paper I will share the life of Mary Magdalene, the faithful disciple she was to Jesus all the way
to the very end and how God wants us to model our lives in the same fashion. Mary Magdalene s life
as we know it begins in her native city of Magdala. Magdala is the Greek form of mighdol or
watchtower, probably named for the tower that guarded the city. (The Zondervan Pictorial
Encyclopedia of the Bible, 1975, p. 105) It is believed that Mary received her last name Magdalene by
designation. According to the Zondervan Handbook to the Bible (2009) this designation means that
she was unmarried, since married women were normally distinguished from others of the same name
by the name of their husband.

She could confirm that Jesus was truly dead. Mary and the other women prepared the spices needed
for the customary burial of Jesus body. Preparing the body for burial was a traditional task done by the

IV. Mary Magdalene was witness to the Resurrection. Mark 16:1 11, Luke 24:1 11, Matthew 28:1 10,
John 20:1 18
Mary found the stone rolled away and Jesus body was no longer there. She received a message from
an angel and was the first person to see the risen Jesus. Making her the first witness to the

relationship God wants us to have with Him, faithful to the end? Mary gave up everything to follow
Jesus and to lead others in His ministry. She was committed to what she believed and she was willing
to risk everything to tell others about the Word of God. Shouldn t we as Christians be like this as well?
I m not saying that our road will be easy but we must stand firm in God s Word because that is
constant and never changes!

The future of any society is governed by the people within it, and although the Machine in E.M.
Forster s The Machine Stops has the illusion of maintaining order in a dystopic society, it is really the
people s fear and misbeliefs that control them. The lack of connection and communication in the
society is what has led to the people to become overdependant on the Machine, to forget that behind
this supposed omnipotent power, it was humanity that created and supported it. In Forster s society,

MY LIFE JOURNEY SO FAR
My name is Oluwadolanimi Zoe Tope Banjoko; I was born on the 30th of April, 1999,
in Nigeria. I am from two different cultural backgrounds, which makes me Multicultural.
Nigeria is a very big country with very diverse culture. There are 36 states in Nigeria,
with more than 250 ethnic groups , and over 521 languages. I raised in Nigeria and spent
my most fundamental years there. I have three siblings, two older sisters and a twin

Differences Between Mixed Martial Arts And Boxing
The fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather sparked numerous discussions about the
differences and similarities between mixed martial arts and boxing. The similarities between the two
sports are surprisingly few, but some of the similarities include that both of the sports matches are
fought in rounds, winning can occur through knockout or points, and both sports use referees to stop
fights. These basic rules form the foundations for both sports, but that is where the major similarities
end. The differences between the sports makes the Ultimate Fighting Championship a more violent
sport than boxing. The violent differences between mixed martial arts and boxing are the techniques
and fighting styles that are allowed in the ring, the gloves, and the training leading up to fights. The
first difference between mixed martial arts and boxing is the techniques and fighting styles that are
allowed during the fights, and how the rules for each sport are designed around the use of these
fighting styles. The UFC mixes completely different forms of martial arts into one sport; for example,
fighters in the UFC are allowed to use boxing, wrestling, jiu jitsu, and several more fighting
techniques in the ring. The allotment of these fighting styles allows the fighters to take their opponent
to the ground, strike while on the ground, kick, grapple, and use submissions. The rules for the UFC
allows the fighters to use almost every type of strike, but some strikes like hitting in

Summary Of Weekly Grocery Trip
I was going to name this post weekly grocery trip, but then I realized that most food itemI buy is from
TJ s, so I reworked it. My obsession with Trader Joe s might seem pretty apparent here by now. A
reader asked me what I buy on a weekly basis at the store, and I thought it would be a good post to
share with you. A little bit more about my grocery shopping habit before we get started.... I like to do a
big trip for the week on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I tend to have more time these days to drive, shop
and unload and I don t like feeling rushed during a trip. I always make a list of all the items I need
before hand, which means I take inventory of our fridge, freezer and pantry. Every couple weeks I like
to mix things up, so I ll dive into my Trader Joe s Cookbook or Cravings Cookbook and pick a new
recipe or 2 to try. Once I m in the store, I like to shop the perimeter of the store first. Fruit, veggies,
meat and all the good food that fuels your body is normally stored here. By grabbing the good stuff
first, when I see the pint of frozen ice cream, and look down to a cart already packed, I am more likely
to opt out. I only eat out 1 4 meals a week, and it is usually lunch or dinner on the weekend, so making
sure I have wholesome food is important for a healthy diet. unnamedAlthough my grocery list changes
each week, these are the items that are staples in my cart. Produce 4 bags of spinach. That is a lot of
spinach, but I make a green drink some mornings

  • 2. First-Year Writing Project Analysis This proposal explores how hip hop can help accomplish the CCCC s stated goals on multiple discourses and community engagement. Hip hop can serve as a valuable tool to help them implement those goals at the University of Nevada, Reno s core writing program. Our analysis will focus on using hip hop to broaden perspectives included in academic conversations and to empower students to write as members of their community. While we understand that hip hop may be a controversial genre to include in the core writing curriculum, we propose that its inclusion is not at odds with both the CCCC s and UNR s core writing program, but can in fact be a valuable asset towards reaching those goals. We believe that first year writing students will benefit from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kendrick is one of the most popular rappers working right now, and his participation in that kind of discussion illustrates that his genre shouldn t preclude him from being taken seriously. We find ourselves in a time no less rich with artistic genius of all kinds, and Fanon s poignant expression of the connection between art and the life it seeks to articulate should serve as a reminder not to forget that art of all kinds, and from all kinds, can help us determine and express truth. Nowhere is that lesson more vital than in hip hop, and its relationship with academia. Currently, while a relationship between them seems to at least exist, rap is treated as a novelty, perhaps being taught in a upper division classes, or as a study of the workings of genre conventions. What is largely ignored is the fact that rap, like other forms of writing, exists not in a vacuum, but as a product of different communities, and of its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being driven by capitalism, society has developed everything into a commodity, in which we now call a market society. Other socio economic communities historically had concepts that were different from what is predominated in our present society. The emergence of market society establishes the great transformation from a traditional society to a market economy that has greatly impacted societal workplaces, and beliefs around ideological conditions. The emergence of market society starts with the self regulating system called the market economy (Polanyi, 1957, P. 68). Self regulation indicates that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, the Industrial Revolution lead to the great transformation of the market society. The economy grew and people used labour as commodity that endures the greatest societal consequence. Since the market relied on this commodity, human rights were at a disadvantage to the economy. There is no such thing as a self regulating market because people believe that the economy can build a system based on false commodities (Polanyi, 1957, P. 75). Society faces an economic problem that provides for the material well being of the society, meaning we produce and exchange the basic necessities in order to survive. If mankind does not live by bread alone, it is obvious that it cannot live without bread (Heilbroner, P. 1). The economic problem arises because human nature struggles for existence which is derived from scarcity (Heilbroner, 1993, P. 4). This problem presents itself critically and uniquely as it is shown through economic history that people struggle for survival. Society has to organize a system of providing enough production for everyone and being able to distribute them properly. Other than market society, there are two other overarching systems found in other societies, tradition and command. • 5. The American Culture Of Strict Conformity Accounts An American culture of strict conformity accounts for the rise of the phenomenon known as the Red Scare, as well as its widespread nature and prominent power. The Red Scare was complicated and a result of many different aspects of American culture. However the American culture in the 1950 s was one of strict conformity. This conformist society, created in the late 1940 s was created by many early discoveries that uncovered Communist members as Soviet spies. There arose a prevalent belief that anyone who thought differently was unpatriotic. This conformist nature of American society thus resulted in few organizations fighting for social justice. The Communist party therefore attracted a wide range of liberals from different aspects of life. Joseph McCarthy himself, along with many other governmental officials, was able to institute anti communist laws and practices under the pretense that an unwavering conformity was the American goal. The conformist nature of American society in the 1950 s created one of the most powerful anti communist crusades and allowed for a dominant Red Scare. McCarthyism rose to power so quickly in the late 1940 s and the early 1950 s because the perception of an internal Communist threat had just enough plausibility to be convincing . Americans feared that communists who would overthrow the government were a realistic threat . Greiner Company and built by the Gallia County Ohio River Bridge Company to connect Point Pleasant, West Virginia to Gallipolis, Ohio. It was designed as a two lane eye bar suspension type bridge, measuring 2,235 feet in total length, including the approaches. The bridge was the first eye bar suspension bridge of its type to be constructed in the United States. [26] Figure 4.1: The Bridge before collapse. [26] During the early evening of December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge collapsed during a period of heavy traffic and 46 people were killed. Another nine people were injured. Of the 37 vehicles on the bridge, 31 fell during the collapse. After some forty years of service, the Point Pleasant Bridge collapsed without warning. [27] Figure 4.2: The Bridge after collapse. [26] The bridge was constructed of carbon steel, which tends to crack. Many cracks were found throughout the bridge among extensive corrosion. Upon investigation, it was found that the collapse was due to a defective eye bar that experienced a cleavage fracture in the lower part of its head which was resulted from stress corrosion and corrosion fatigue. [26] Since the eye bars were not designed to be redundant, failure in one eye bar would disrupt the continuity of the suspension system. This disruption is what caused the bridge to collapse suddenly. The location of the flaw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A perfect example was the United States who stood on the sidelines, while the horrific events of the Holocaust were occurring. The United States had played a negative role in the Holocaust due to a lack of aid, immigration, and publication. During the Holocaust there was a lack of aid from America to those suffering in Europe. President at the time of the Holocaust, Franklin D. Roosevelt, had been leading a country of antisemitism, meaning to be against the Jewish. As mention in The Us and the Holocaust Project Group: Antisemitism page by Lauren Freeman, Antisemitism was habited with in Congress, and the general public of the United States; which will be further elaborated later in the paper. Black holes in general are very rare because most stars are not massive enough to create them. When a star stops producing fusion energy, the equilibrium of the star no longer exists. Without the star producing any fuel, there is no pressure created that can hold the star in place. The pressure that a star creates is used to prevent the gravity from crushing the core. Now that there is no pressure pushing outward, the gravity becomes so violent that it crushes matter to the point that it is completely destroyed. At this point, black holes are born. Black holes are created in rare occasions. During the death of most stars, they slowly dim out or explode into trillions of microscopic particles. Even our good fortune (properties we are born into or receive by chance) can be used for good or arrogantly; good will bends it to good purpose. Anyone (rational impartial spectator) would be dissatisfied upon seeing another person lacking good will yet enjoying life s riches. Thus, good will is a necessary condition for deserving happiness. Even those qualities (here he considers moderation, self control, and sober reflection) which support good will cannot be held as absolutely good (good without limitation); they still require a good will. Surely, then, reason serves not the aim of happiness, but another aim for existence possessing much more dignity. This other aim is the highest good, for which reason is a necessary ingredient. For natural ends, instinct (drives to satisfy hunger, thirst, and the need for shelter) is sufficient; however, the greatest good demands reason. This is so because the greatest good may adversely affect the individual who by reason is contemplating a course of action. Kant then discusses the concept of duty: does it always serve the good, or can it also be self serving? Even the preservation of life must be considered as either conforming with duty or arising from duty, a moral obligation. Thus, only actions which have moral value can be sufficiently described as duty. Happiness is a powerful motivator; lack thereof can lead one to violate one s duties. Motivation to satisfy one inclination and achieve happiness in the present can outweigh consideration of a later (i.e., more distant temporally) consequence. Abiding by one s duty to achieve happiness provides moral value. Thus, love as a duty can be commanded; such love is practical and based on the will not melting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Writer John Milton gives an alternate version of this phenomenon in his epic Paradise Lost that illustrates not only the consequences of disobedience from God, but the distinct gender differences between men and women. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another example of the inferiority of women is illustrated in Book Two whereby Satan is attracted to a beautiful woman who is half woman and half snake (Ricks 87). Emphasizing that her lower half is a serpent suggests that the vaginal area of women, or the seductive parts, makes women sly and fraudulent, a correlation to the snake found in the Garden of Eden. Furthermore, it is noted that the creature is lured by the smell of infant blood, reinforcing the stereotypical role that women are enslaved to the dynamics of motherhood. When Satan planned his rebellion, his head burst into flames. The serpent woman, also known as his daughter Sin, grew out of Satan s head because of his revolt. Sin can be compared to the creation of Eve in that both women are created from their partners. Eve was created from Adam s rib and Sin was created from Satan s head. Paradise Lost infers that women, who are symbolized by Eve and Sin, could not have originated nor prosper without the help of a man and that women are dependent on their male counterparts. In the epic, Sin and her father Satan conceive their son, Death. Milton uses the names of Satan s children to illustrate that sin and death are the consequences of disobedience from God. If anyone doubts the essential element of European sophistication in Jazz, it is a simple matter for his to compare a typical piece of Jazz, such as Duke Ellington Swampy River, first with a lyric by Grieg and then with a record of African music. It must be clear to even the most prejudiced listener that apart from a few rhythmical peculiarities the Ellington piece has far more in common with the music of Grieg 6 One must understand that even when Duke infused the two tonalities of music; he still was obligated to work within guidelines of the European Harmonic tradition.7 Yet by him keeping with this tradition he is not obligated to write music in the form of previous composers such as Stravinsky, Mozart, or Bach, for to do that would delegate Ellington s music as a duplicate work. Further, it deals with the image of the land as being hostile to the colonisers, fighting them and intensifying their feelings of alienation and exile. The article particularly applies Albert Memmi s theories in his book The Colonizer and The Colonized, as well as those of other cultural philosophers. Hopefully, this paper would generate further ... However, the analysis of the text of the novel from a post colonial perspective reveals the precision with which Forster depicted the socio psychological dilemma of Anglo Indians during the period of the British Raj. A close examination of Forster s depiction of India will further our understanding of the psychological dilemma of Anglo Indians who wish to call India home. In this article, I will highlight the process of formatting (i.e. the process by which is created the coloniser and his demonised other which is the colonised), without which Anglo Indians would not be accepted into the community of the colony. I will also highlight those moments when Forster could not help but feel the gulf that separates him from the Indians. Further, I will focus on the problem of race relations. Such analysis is vital for understanding the deep thematic meaning of the literary text and appreciating the problems of identity formation and the complexities of colonial discourse. At a time when the colonial era is showing signs of a strong comeback, highlighting the traumatic effects of colonisation becomes even more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Charlemagne Essay examples What makes ‘a king into ‘the king and then onto Emperor and Augustus? What made King Charles, Charles the Great? In Einhard s Life of Charlemagne, a very succinct description of King Charles ideals, beliefs, attitudes and traits are depicted along with his life s territorial as well as mental conquests illustrated. Charlemagne was a man with a vision of a utopian society united under Christianity in its glorious form in an almost Camelot like kingdom. Einhard s literary work gives society an insight into King Charles and what made him capable of being Augustus. As indicated by Einhard, Charlemagne was a man of all talents but few beliefs and traits truly molded him. Charlemagne ruled over an empire and Christianity ruled over and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, Charlemagne was a man devoted to his beliefs who was essentially kind, friendly, very patriotic and, also, trying to be known for his acts and create a good reputation for himself. Over the course of his life Charlemagne was able to create great ties with fellow leaders around the world and through various empires, and although he was also trying to aid Christians who needed help in foreign lands, he seemed to have this need to have good relations with everyone. According to Einhard, he had great friendships all around the world and always welcomed foreigners in his kingdom and palace for only one simple thing in return. For he felt that he would be rewarded for his troubles if they [foreigners] praised his generosity and gave him a good reputation (Einhard 2004, 212). He was a great king who wanted to go down in history. As per Einhard, that seems to be Charlemagne s only selfish trait. He apparently only wore the national dress of the Frankish with few exceptions, which can only imply his great patriotism. Although he appreciated foreign customs, he seems to be very patriotic towards the Franks. Overall, Charlemagne embodied traits that came together to form this great Emperor who was admired by many. In The Life of Charlemagne one notices that Frankish society must have formulated certain characteristics through the reign of King Charles. Through the king s beliefs a society forms to follow ... • 32. The Road Back Analysis When Eric Maria Remarque released All Quiet on the Western Front, he was shunned by Germany as being unpatriotic. This didn t stop Remarque from releasing his second book The Road Back but it did lead to him fleeing Germany, his sister being beheaded and his books being burned by the Nazi s. Why all this fuss over fiction, unless the Nazi s did not want the German population to see the truth behind their Glorification of war. The same situation can be seen of the ex soldier Siegfried Sassoon, who was placed in a military psychiatric hospital for his anti war poetry. The fact that both authors of these texts went to war only strengthens the authenticity of the pieces. Remarque was a soldier for Germany in the first world war, with some events ... • 33. Jose Marti Rhetorical Analysis José Martí s Stance on the Government s Role in Ensuring Virtuosity Through the writings of José Martí, a reader witnesses his strong love for justice, virtue, and duty. His writings illustrate, with fantastic diction, Martí s profound distaste for those who are not virtuous; specifically governments that are not virtuous. The theme that is consistently found in the work of Martí is his belief that the government is ultimately responsible for the acts carried out by its citizens. He believes that the government creates the monsters which it so desperately attempts to eliminate. And, in multiple essays, Martí makes clear that he believes the only way to prevent the acts of these monsters is by the government leading its citizens to a life of virtuosity through their own demonstration of such character. Martí follows the several key trials that he believes provide evidence for the government s need to accept responsibility for what is done by its citizens. In, The trial of Guiteau, the reader learns about Charles J. Guiteau who was convicted in the killing of President Garfield. In this essay, Martí is adamant about ensuring that no one forgives the convicted murderer for his deed. In one sentence Martí states, He does not arouse pity; he does not arouse forgiveness; he arouses no desire to excuse him and goes on to say, There is no place for him in men s hearts, only in their hatred (95). Yet, the irony of his statements becomes evident through the sentence immediately following the latter when Martí explains that Reason demands that his [the convicted murderer] life be spared because he believes that killing the monster is inadequate way of ending power s nature to grow monsters... (95). Thus, while Martí strongly believes that no forgiveness should be shown to Guiteau, he still believes that Guiteau deserves to live because his execution would not change the reason why it happened. Instead, Martí believes that only the government can prevent what happened by changing what caused it. Moreover, it could be loosely said that he does not believe the Guiteau is responsible for the death of the president; instead he believes that the government under which Guiteau lived is responsible. Ultimately, Martí ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Mary Magdalene In this paper I will share the life of Mary Magdalene, the faithful disciple she was to Jesus all the way to the very end and how God wants us to model our lives in the same fashion. Mary Magdalene s life as we know it begins in her native city of Magdala. Magdala is the Greek form of mighdol or watchtower, probably named for the tower that guarded the city. (The Zondervan Pictorial Encyclopedia of the Bible, 1975, p. 105) It is believed that Mary received her last name Magdalene by designation. According to the Zondervan Handbook to the Bible (2009) this designation means that she was unmarried, since married women were normally distinguished from others of the same name by the name of their husband. Mark 16:1 11, Luke 24:1 11, Matthew 28:1 10, John 20:1 18 Mary found the stone rolled away and Jesus body was no longer there. She received a message from an angel and was the first person to see the risen Jesus. Making her the first witness to the resurrection! The excitement she must have felt when she realized she was speaking with her risen Savior! All four gospels mention Mary s presence with Jesus as being faithful to the end. Isn t this the type of relationship God wants us to have with Him, faithful to the end? Mary gave up everything to follow Jesus and to lead others in His ministry. She was committed to what she believed and she was willing to risk everything to tell others about the Word of God. Shouldn t we as Christians be like this as well? I m not saying that our road will be easy but we must stand firm in God s Word because that is constant and never changes! • 38. Maintaining Order In E. M. Forster s The Machine Stops The future of any society is governed by the people within it, and although the Machine in E.M. Forster s The Machine Stops has the illusion of maintaining order in a dystopic society, it is really the people s fear and misbeliefs that control them. The lack of connection and communication in the society is what has led to the people to become overdependant on the Machine, to forget that behind this supposed omnipotent power, it was humanity that created and supported it. In Forster s society, one which was broiling with the onset of global war, this was a key development, as political ideologies such as fascism and nationalism were rising in power. Although modern society is dealing with issues such as race and gender, it has become much more accepting of a culture than Forster s society of the early 1900s. Now the international community has become much more supportive of each others initiatives and has become an interconnected world. The imagined world of The Machine Stops has become unlikely to ever exist because humanity now has recognized the strengths of working as groups rather than individuals, a modern trend that has only recently emerged. Had people lacked a much needed response to the horrors of the world during the World Wars, modern society may very well have slid further into the mistrust and closed off world (clearly seen in the story as society had moved underground and everybody lived in hexagonal rooms) and become the dystopic society of the Machine. • 43. Differences Between Mixed Martial Arts And Boxing The fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather sparked numerous discussions about the differences and similarities between mixed martial arts and boxing. The similarities between the two sports are surprisingly few, but some of the similarities include that both of the sports matches are fought in rounds, winning can occur through knockout or points, and both sports use referees to stop fights. These basic rules form the foundations for both sports, but that is where the major similarities end. The differences between the sports makes the Ultimate Fighting Championship a more violent sport than boxing. The violent differences between mixed martial arts and boxing are the techniques and fighting styles that are allowed in the ring, the gloves, and the training leading up to fights. The first difference between mixed martial arts and boxing is the techniques and fighting styles that are allowed during the fights, and how the rules for each sport are designed around the use of these fighting styles. The UFC mixes completely different forms of martial arts into one sport; for example, fighters in the UFC are allowed to use boxing, wrestling, jiu jitsu, and several more fighting techniques in the ring. The allotment of these fighting styles allows the fighters to take their opponent to the ground, strike while on the ground, kick, grapple, and use submissions. The rules for the UFC allows the fighters to use almost every type of strike, but some strikes like hitting in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My obsession with Trader Joe s might seem pretty apparent here by now. A reader asked me what I buy on a weekly basis at the store, and I thought it would be a good post to share with you. A little bit more about my grocery shopping habit before we get started.... I like to do a big trip for the week on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I tend to have more time these days to drive, shop and unload and I don t like feeling rushed during a trip. I always make a list of all the items I need before hand, which means I take inventory of our fridge, freezer and pantry. Every couple weeks I like to mix things up, so I ll dive into my Trader Joe s Cookbook or Cravings Cookbook and pick a new recipe or 2 to try. Once I m in the store, I like to shop the perimeter of the store first. Fruit, veggies, meat and all the good food that fuels your body is normally stored here. By grabbing the good stuff first, when I see the pint of frozen ice cream, and look down to a cart already packed, I am more likely to opt out. I only eat out 1 4 meals a week, and it is usually lunch or dinner on the weekend, so making sure I have wholesome food is important for a healthy diet. unnamedAlthough my grocery list changes each week, these are the items that are staples in my cart.
