Category 5 Hurricane Analysis
How prepare for a category 5 hurricane
To prepare for a category 5 hurricane first you need to block up all windows around your house
with wood or hurricane shutters and make sure they are screwed in correctly. You should also get
any loose items around your house and bring them inside so that they do not blow away in the storm
. If you happen to have a boat, make sure to take it out of the water and put in on the side of your
house on a trailer. Make sure you go to the store and buy as much bottled water as possible. Also
make sure to buy canned food so you wont have to cook it. Your power will most likely go out so
make sure that you have portable chargers and that they are charged up, aswell as your main
devices, such as your phone,

How Eleanor Roosevelt Changed The World
Eleanor changed the way we view our first lady. We now know them as independent women who
happen to have their husbands in Office. They take charge of changing the United States for the
better of the citizens of the United States. Eleanor is the niece of the former president Theodore
Roosevelt. She was born into wealthy New York family. Her father Elliott Roosevelt was a
alcoholic and had a narcotic addiction. When their family went overseas for a vacation they sent
Elliott to an asylum in France. Later Theodore sent him to an alcoholic center to help, located in
Dwight,Illinois. Anna Hall Roosevelt, Eleanor s mother, died very early and was a shock to the
entire family. Her mother died when she was eight years old, her 4 year old brother died a year
after her mother, her dad died the year after her brother died. She was an orphan at 9 years and 10
months and lived with her grandmother... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally she was taught to read, write and speak Spanish, German, French, and Italian. Her
Grandmother sent her to Allenswood Girls Academy, Wimbledon Common, London, England
and had a strong bond with Marie Souvestre who became Eleanor s greatest emotional and
educational influence. While she was there she was taught composition, music, drawing, painting
and dance. Although there were no classes on history, geography, and philosophy Ms. Souvestre
helped Eleanor find her love for them. President Theodore Roosevelt walked his niece Eleanor
down the aisle on her wedding day. She married Franklin Delano Roosevelt. They met when
Eleanor was on a train to the Hudson River and she met a young man, her distant cousin, and a
man from Harvard. The couple had a secret courtship and later were engaged. FDR s mother did
not approve of the young couple but after FDR insisting it would bring him happiness she bent to his

Essay On Rattus Norvegicus
The underlying theme between all three studies is microevolution, over time the Rattus Norvegicus
were able to adapt to type of the environment they were reared in by adjusting their metabolism.
Although they produced many progeny, the ones with the greatest fitness, and had produced the
most young were the ones with the advantageous trait. They would either have a higher metabolism
during cold climates or a low metabolism in a warm climate. There was a distinct inverse
relationship between the thermal environment and metabolic rates found in these rats. The results
from the first study indicated that rats were capable of responding to the energetic demands of their
thermal environment with metabolic compensations. Throughout development, warm housed...

The results showed that rats raised in cooler temperatures developed a greater body and coat mass
that those of warm reared mats. This significant difference indicates that the environment plays an
important role in the hair coat insulation. The rats reared in the cooler temperature had maintained
a relatively heavier hair coat with darker fur while those that were raised in the warmer
temperatures had relatively lighter hair in lighter color. The heavier hair coat plays a greater role
in the maintenance of body temperatures of the Rattus Norvegicus due to high surface to volume
ratio, which decreases with size and age. This notion supports the conclusions of the previous study
where rats that were reared in the colder temperatures were smaller. It was essential for them to be
smaller so that they their longer hair would have a higher surface to volume ratio. The differences
found in the development of the coat mass relative to body mass as a result of thermal environment
suggest that the Rattus Norvegicus adjust their hair coat insulation at the juvenile age of day 22 to
reduce the energetic costs of thermoregulation in their housing

For instance, Dell chose to distribute straight to the company with great success and cost savings
and then later changed their plan to include selling through Wal Mart when the time called for it.
Gateway however, decided to open their own stores but didn t sell their product from it. This led to
the failure of Gateway. Poor distribution network designs can hurt customer satisfaction and
increase costs hurting the profitability of the company. Two factors need to be considered when
designing a distribution network; customer needs to be met and the cost of meeting customer
needs. When thinking of customer needs it s important to consider what the distribution directly
influences, which is response time, product variety, product availability, and customer experience,
time to market, order visibility and return ability. Things that affect the cost of the distribution
design are inventories, transportation, facilities and handling, information, sourcing and pricing. As
the number of facilities increases, the inventory costs increase. It s important to decrease the
number of facilities not only to save on inventory costs but also to cut down on facility costs. For
transportation you have inbound and outbound with outbound being the bigger cost. Creating
economies of scale in transportation is a great way to reduce costs. There are six design options for
the distribution network which include manufacturer storage with direct

The Gunslinger Chapter Summary
The Gunslinger is a very unique novel to read. There are times of grief, anger, sorrow, action, etc.
throughout the story. The setting of the story is also very confusing. The story takes place in a
sort of post apocalyptic time where everything is sand and desert, but it is later revealed that there
are other worlds. This story follows the journey of the gunslinger as he travels through harsh
environments, trying to catch the man in black. The novel begins with the gunslinger moving
through the desert, hot on the man in black s tracks. He then comes across an old farm. The farm
is occupied by the farmer, Brown, and his bird, Zoltan. The gunslinger decides to stop there for the
night. During dinner time, Brown says that the man in black was recently... Show more content on

They ride through the tunnels in a mining cart. They are then attacked by some creatures known
as low mutants. As they battle, the mining cart gets destroyed. After the battle, the two come
across the exit of the tunnels, but Jake trips and falls. Jake was hanging from the tracks when
the man in black showed up. The man in black told the gunslinger that if he helped the Jake then
he would never catch him, but if he leaves Jake there, then he would catch him. The gunslinger
makes a hard choice, but decides to leave Jake there hanging. Jake soon released his grip and fell
to his death. The gunslinger finds the man in black in a place called Golgotha. The man in black
reads the gunslingers fate from tarot cards. A lot is discussed between the two. The man in
black says that he is only a pawn for the real enemy. The man in black tries to persuade the
gunslinger to stop his quest by showing him how insignificant he is. He doesn t believe that, but
is then forced into a deep sleep. When he wakes, ten years have passed. He looks over to see a
skeleton next to him. He assumes that it is the man in black. He then continues his journey to find

What Were the Two Greatest Sucesses and Failures of the...
What were the two greatest successes and two greatest failures of the Wilson government 1964 70?
This period of Labour rule is often marked down as a poor performance on behalf of the labour
party, critically looked upon by many historians. There were many failings under the rule of this
government however the circumstances they were placed in caused severe restraints in their options.
Wilson had been voted into government with the promise of central planning and the white heat of
new technology , catching the mood of the moment, and making the public believe he was not just
another old bumbling politician, but one who showed some promise in getting the country moving,
and reinvigorating the lumbering economy. However when Wilson was... Show more content on

Although disillusioned to the cause of the strike action Wilson still attempted to pull together an act
that would limit the pull of the trade unions, and through Barbara Castle s optimistically titled in
place of strife it appeared that they may prevail against the vigilante controlling of the government;
through relatively mild controls on their ability to resort to strike action. The act had popular
support in the country as many people did not want to see their country being run by the trade
unions. However inside the labour party the bill met much opposition and even with a majority of
100 it was clear that the bill would not get passed; the majority reason for which being that many
labour party members believed, that with the economy in the state it was in, and the failure of the
party to meet the measures promised in the manifesto, the working class were the last people they
wanted to alienate, if they wished to run for re election. In being too week at the time that the
government needed to enforce stern measures they were humiliated by their leader having to slump

In The Tigris River, The Ilisu Dam Along With Other Dams
In the Tigris River, the Ilisu Dam along with other dams has become a plan to sustain a water
reservoir for the citizens of Turkey. Unfortunately, it has led to an increasing number of ecological
impacts downstream. The project began in August of 2006 and has been met with much
controversy, yet certain instances of how the damaffects the surrounding life including people and
other organisms has become definite. With International Environmental Impact Assessments calling
to be revised, but to no avail, it begins to make one investigate the risks of the construction of the
dam and it s ecological impact on the surrounding environment including aquatic, terrestrial, plant,
and human life. This analysis will discuss what the Ilisu Dam is and... Show more content on

Unfortunately, some of the companies like VA Tech and DSI have had histories of forcibly
removing thousands to millions of people from their homes. Even worse flooding of the reservoirs
sometimes causes the surrounding areas where residence still occupied to be submerged killing
those who remain, according to Maggie Ronayne from the report, The Cultural and Environmental
Impact of Large Dams in Southwest Turkey. More will now be discussed of the many ecological
impacts the Ilisu has on the communities of animal and plant life. In the same report written by
Ronayne, she stated that a requirement of some international guidelines for the dam was to consult
with the women of the area prior to construction. The companies falsified claims of speaking with
the women. When asked on the conversations, they said the women agreed with building the dams
because they wanted dishwaters. This was to imply that the women s major priority was to
relinquish the burden of washing dishes, a task already stereotyped for women. Sadly, when the
Kurdish Human Rights Project spoke with actual women from the surrounding areas, their opinions
were quite different from what was said by the VA Tech. The impoverished areas could not even
afford dishwashers, and felt the dam would do more harm to the land and their community than
what was already happening.

Avoidance Strategies In The Workplace
On the other hand, avoidance strategies are also often adopted as a coping mechanism for
bullying. As Anderson, Labriola, Andersen, Lund, and Hansen (2015) reported victims of
bullying remain passive and seldom ask for help therefore avoidance plays a pivotal role in
depression. Depression via bullying and avoidance coping strategies is reflected in absenteeism
levels in the workplace (McTernan et al., 2013) The study by Ortega et al. (2011) found that the
risk of long term absence was higher for those exposed to bullyingthan for those not bullied.
Victims of workplace bullying may adopt an avoidance strategy as a coping mechanism to escape
the bully, by not attending work they avoid being bullied (Casimir et al., 2012). An avoidance

Workplace bullying is a negative event and the interplay between such behaviour and the
environment, namely negative and positive reinforcement, and negative and positive punishment,
contributes to the development of depression (Kanter et al., 2008). The use of learned
helplessness as an avoidance strategy is a further learning theory that reinforces behaviour by
providing negative reinforcement which exacerbates and maintains depression (Cribb et al.,
2006). Furthermore, using avoidance strategies such as absenteeism instead of coping with the
event may cause victims to complain to others to receive sympathy and this positive
reinforcement again exacerbates and maintains depression (Ramnero et al., 2016). Social
observational learning further contributes to developing low self esteem and inadequate social
skills which are risk factors of depression (Andersen et al., 2015), In addition, social observation
learning through vicarious learning is a risk factor to developing depressive symptoms as
witnessing hostile events may induce strong emotional responses (Bandura Richard, 1977).
Rumination, as an adjunct behaviour in depression positively reinforces behaviour and predicts
the length and severity of depression (Kanter et al., 2008). In sum, this paper has discussed how
types of operant learning theories and social observational learning may explain how depression
develops as a consequence of experiencing workplace bullying. As reported by Ramnero et al.
(2016) implications of considering a learning theory approach to depression includes the
development of clinical treatment strategies that understand the antecedents and consequences of
behaviour as well as the biological and cognitive

The Importance Of Pressure On High School Sports
Pressure and High School Sports seem to go hand in hand these days. Whether we like pressure
or not, it is difficult to avoid. We experience pressure because of standards that others expect us to
accomplish. While some people may do well under pressure, many of us do bad under pressure.
The Kimberly Girls Volleyballteam will experience a lot of pressure as they head into the State
tournament this weekend. Expectations are very high for them because they have had a lot of
success so far this season. I talked to a girl who is currently on the varsity volleyball team that is
going to state. Payton is not a starter and doesn t get to see the court often but she is just as
important as anyone else on the team. She discussed with me some of the expectations that coaches
and fans have for them. Every game our coach always tells us not to be satisfied, and that s kinda
our team moto. I definitely think that s the expectation from our coaches is to not be satisfied with a
win or how we played just to always make it better. I believe the expectation from the fans is just to
stay positive and work as hard as we can.
With expectations high from the coaches and fans, this can add a lot of pressure and stress onto
the girls. As Payton said, I definitely think that s the expectation from our coaches it to not be
satisfied with a win or how we played just to always make it better, we can see how they are
pressured to win again because they can t be satisfied with winning one game. They have
expectations to make it far in their season because they are not satisfied after one game, they want
to win more and be number one.
I also talked to a fan, Quinn Johnson, and asked what he thought the pressures were on the girls
this year. He replied with: I think this season the pressures are there own standards. Last years
team was not as good so other teams and fans did not expect so much out of them. But after we
won the FVA this year and got the #1 seed for the playoffs more pressure was added to the team
coming into playoffs. This helps to see from a fan perspective what they believe the pressures are
and what they expect the girls to accomplish this season.
As you can probably see, with the girls success this year they

The Theme Of Love In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
Love is unconditional within a family and should come without seeing any flaws one may have.
Each and every individual is given the ability to love, however not all have the strength and
courage to embrace it. Love is the most important aspect of life, but not all can accept an individual
s differences. James Hurstexpresses this hardship in his story The Scarlet Ibis. Hurst displays the
importance of acceptance between two brothers, Brother and Doodle. Doodle is born with a
disability that sets him apart from other children his age. Brother cannot accept the fact that his
little brother is different, causing him to feel that he needs to make his brother normal . Brother s

Everyday, Brother takes Doodle to Old Woman Swamp and the same thing happens: he grabs his

perseverance, Doodle eventually learns to walk on his own. Brother gains confidence in Doodle,
and now believes in his own ability to do nothing wrong. In Old Woman Swamp, Brother also
creates a development program for Doodle. Brother and Doodle s relationship is beginning to
flourish, Doodle and I spent lots of time thinking about our future. We decided that when we
were grown we d live in Old Woman Swamp and pick dog tongue for a living...Mama and Daddy
could come and live with us if they wanted to. He even came up with the idea that he could
marry Mama and I could marry Daddy (Hurst 4). The daily trips Doodle and Brother take to Old
Woman Swamp together slowly strengthen their bond. The beauty of Old Woman Swamp
allows Doodle to imagine a perfect world. His innocence causes him to not understand that his
idea of a perfect world is never going to become a reality. Brother is old enough to know
everything Doodle is imagining is a lie, but the picture he is painting is so serene, that all
Brother could think to do was to agree. Doodle cherishes every second he has with his older
brother, and Brother realizes how precious his little brother really is. Old Woman Swamp is a land

Gifts of the Holy Spirit
The gifts of the Holy Spirit contain a big role in the spiritual life of the believer. There are said to
be seven gifts to around eighteen gifts of the Spirit to be brought upon those who believe in God.
Each denomination has a certain gift that they focus on more then others. As Pentecostals believe
that speaking in tongues is the ultimate gifts and thats what shows that a person has been filled
with the Spirit, Mennonites dont focus on speaking in tongues at all. Each Gift of the Spirit has a
certain use and person in the life of the believer. Some believers often confuse gifts of the Spirit

Identity Of The Maori And New Zealand Chinese Identity
Identity is what one is as a person and what that person can contribute to the society. Identity
formation in New Zealand as a significant concept, as due to the history of the nation one s
identity is critical to what the society perceives of the person. In this assignment I will be of the
Maori Race in the Media by Melanie wall (1997) and New ZealandChinese Identity: exploring two
texts Stereotypical constructions Sojourners, Model Minority and Multiple identities by Manying
Ip and David Pang (2005), both of which discuss issues related to identity in New Zealand.
Stereotypical Constructions of the Maori Race in the Media by Melanie Wall
In her text Stereotypical Constructions of the Maori Race in the Media Melanie Wall (1997)
explores two key ideas: how stereotypes gave Pakeha the justification to Colonise New Zealand
and the contemporary stereotypes of Maori in the media. Wall s argument is centred on the idea
that the stereotypes in the media today have been re created from the identity that was given to
the Maori by Pakeha during colonisation. she further argues that not only that the stereotypes
were given to the Maori but they were used to justify the colonisation of New Zealand. Wall goes
on to say that racial disclosure has played a huge role in the colonisation of territories as
stereotypes were used to justify the conceptual domination and the material exploitation of the new
world (pg40). Wall claims that since the Maori were portrayed as

Camera Movement In Vertigo
The significance of Camera Movement in Vertigo
Film editing is an important post production phase of the filmmaking process. It means the
unlimited use of the digital technology, where the film editor works with raw footage, selecting the
best shorts and combining them to create a good quality motion picture. Camera motion is one of
the film editing techniques that has been widely used in the movie Vertigo to create the outstanding
movie. Most importantly are the three set pieces of camera that are interconnected in both structure
and meaning. These are, the scene at Ernie s restaurant that shows the start of Scottie s pursuit in
Madeleine, the celebrated zoom in and track outshot that arouses the acrophobia of Scottie, and
finally, the 360 degree ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The flow of camera forward and backward generates a move which makes an object of sight and
desire to appear to be diminishing from view. On several instances, Madeline disappears from
view as she goes to various places. When Madeline was going to Carlotta s grave, she disappears
from sight into a flower shop. As she leaves the flower shop, she disappears and gets into the
church; then she vanishes from view as she heads to the graveyard and eventually she disappears
entirely into the McKittrick Hotel. The use of spiral movement in Vertigo portrays a state of
unstable equilibrium. For instance, Scottie goes after Madeline which expressed the theme of
sexual desire. However, initially, Scottie does not connect with Madeline (Bouthemy et al., 1030).
At the instance when the vertigo shot is taken, a structural structure is formed embodying the
staircase at Mission San Juan Bautista extends like a spring who elasticity is no more. This shows
that Scottie will be where he wants to be. His vertigo has reached its climax which means that no
matter how much he tries to chase Madeline, he will not get her. In the real film, the spiral is
created by the motion of the

Eldorado Comparison
Similar to the HG Wells story, in the poem Eldorado by Edgar Allen Poe the romance genre is
demonstrated through a place apart, and also demonstrates a serpent in the garden. This is

The Apartheid Of South Africa
Apartheid in South Africa was not started in 1948 with the election that saw the National Party
(NP) take office, it was just a term coined by NP after the publication of the Sauer Report of
1946. The Sauer report recommended consolidation of land reserves, controls over African
urbanization and segregation of coloreds, Indians and blacks. Apartheid was more than just
segregation though, it was a ruthless way of controlling a majority of the population within the
country. The reason being it was supported by those who had power within the government, and
those that had the power of the vote as well. National Party supporters such as teachers, clerics, and
large scale farmers, as well as those white urban trade unions that had lost work to black South
Africans during World War II where all behind this movement. Apartheid was a movement
segregation, and it spread quickly, by increasing demands of all non white South Africans with
governmental acts. These acts such as the Group Areas Act of 1950 which enforced segregated
living spaces, and the Bantu Education Act of 1953, which put all African schools under the control
of the Department of Native Affairs, which regulated education and imposed a uniform curriculum
which was to prepare students towards more manual type labor. These acts and other like them
pushed Africans to start to up protest, at first peacefully through non violent protest, but eventually
violence was seen as the only way. These protest led the

Corrie Ten Boom From The Hiding Place And Anne Frank
Corrie Ten Boom from The Hiding Place and Anne Frank From Anne Frank s Diary were two of
the of the many people that were living during the Holocaust period. The Holocaust which took
place in the late 1930 s and throughout the 1940 s Adolf Hitler an anti Jewish man came to power
in Germany. During this Germanywas in a great depression due to their loss of World War One.
Hitler promised restoration and power and he was easily accepted. Once Adolf was in power he
began to invade countries around them like Poland and Holland. Hitler began to send Jewsaway to
camps. He then began to rampage around the countries capturing the Jews and sending them to
the camps where we later found out how they brutally killed the Jews. Before some of the Jews
were captured, they went into hiding. That s where our two stories came from our first is The
Hiding Place and the other is The Annex. Although these are not the only stories about Jews
hiding from the Nazis these are some of the most extreme. While comparing Corrie and Anne
their personality, experience, and final outcomes we see that there are similarities and difference.

Humor And Alcoholism Essay
Humor and Alcoholism
Introduction
When I think of alcoholism, the first thing that comes to my mind of course is alcohol and then
an addiction to some extent that cannot be broken or a disease that may be hereditary that has
been carried from generation to generation. I never would think to add humor in the equation
when explain or trying to figure out exactly how it fits into the category of alcoholism. However,
after some research I ve found that alcoholism is definitely considered to be an addiction when the

Why Is It Important To Have Rules In Lord Of The Flies
In the novel The Lord of the Flies a group of young boys are stranded on an island after their plane
mysteriously crashes.I believe that William Golding was getting the point that a society cannot
function without a basic set of rules and boundaries . Throughout the book their society does
extremely well when they have leadershipand simple laws to keep the boys in place. When Jack
decides to start anarchy and disrupts the balance of their system everything goes to hell. In the
time Ralph was in charge one small boy died on the mountain but it was an accident in the time
Jack was in charge two boys were brutally murdered, this just validates my point that a community
can not survive with no laws or rules.
Jack and Ralph first meet and the beach and establish their leadership roles among the boys. The
boys feel as though they need a chief and have a vote, Ralph wins the vote and after seeing Jack s ...

In the book the conch seemed to hold the boys together. When they had it they had leadership and
they thrived. The first timed it was introduced it was the center of power for the boys But there was
a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive
appearance; and most obscurely, yet most powerfully, there was the conch. The being that had
blown that, had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing balanced on his
knees, was set apart (22). I believe this proves that the conch represents order and government.
The glasses on the other hand I believe that the glasses represent the power of ingenuity and
science. Throughout the book the largest part of innovation and science has been fire. It is
everything to the boys they were even will to steal and lie for it. The glasses are the only real piece
of technology on the island. At the point the glasses were broken it was a symbol for how dumbed
down and far away the boys were from

Analysis of Biff in Death of a Salesman Essay
Camilla Tanzi
Year 12
An analysis of the character of Biff.
Biff Loman is portrayed as the root of Willy s mental illness and instability. He is also the only
member of his family who acknowledges his own failures in life. On the whole, Biff Loman stands
out as the most intriguing and strong character in Death of a Salesman. He is not a successful man
and never will be, he is however able to admit this, even in a harsh society as the one of the 1960s
America. Biff knows he is a nothing and tries to make his father see that he is no good. I am a dime
a dozen, Pop, and so are you. He begs for Willy to communicate with him and accept him for who
he is. Although Willy is forced by Biff to see some of his own failures, he never... Show more

The author could possibly be implying that Willy is actually envious of Bernard and even
though he doesn t want to admit it, his is just jealousy when he shows aversion towards him.
Willy has different ambitions for his sons futures than most people had for theirs at the time; he
believes that sport will be enough to help Biff succeed in the business world, make him rich and
notorious; That s just what I mean, Bernard can get the best marks in school, y understand, but
when he gets out in the business world, y understand, you re going to be five times ahead of him.
Arthur Miller provides us with a lot of evidence that Willy has been a bad influence on Biff.
While Biff is in some ways desperate to impress his father, he is also conscious about the fact
that Willy has failed his attempt to be successful in his career. He considers his dad s dreams
materialistic and unreachable. As a matter of fact, in the Requiem, even after his father s death,
Biff says: He had the wrong dreams. All, all wrong. Unlike Happy and Willy, Biff is self aware
and values facts; Willy never was a successful salesman and he never wanted to face the truth. On
the other hand, Biff is conscious about his failures and the weaknesses of his personality. During an
argument with his father, Biff admits that his dad made him so arrogant as a boy that now he just

Metamorphosis Of Narcissus Comparative Essay
The unconscious mind is the intersection of rationally irrational thought, formulated from the
accumulation of memories and studied to uncover the depths of an individual. Surrealism
focuses on the automatic, instinctive action, in relation to waking desires and conscious
thought. Metamorphosis of Narcissus by Salvador Dali utilizes realistic imagery while alluding
to a mythological narrative creating a representation indicative of a dream state. Dali s use of
water parallels that of a mirror, reflecting back a similar yet altered version of the original image.
This is comparable to Claude Cahun s work Self Portrait s use of mirror imagery as a symbol to
depict the difference between an individual s perception of oneself and reality. Both artists works
have psychological components as a prominent motif, utilizing visual allegory and symbolism to
illustrate complex concepts. Ostensibly Dali s as well as Cahun s compositions allude... Show more

The narrative articulates how Narcissus became transfixed by his reflection which inevitable results
in his downfall. Furthermore the statue in the background situated on a pedestal with its back
toward the audience insinuates mythological figure s concept of self importance. The singularity of
the form and its placement, facing the dark ominous mountains, parallels the narrative in
foreshadowing Narcissus death. Dali utilizes the myth to communicate how the human inclination
towards hedonistic pursuits result in arrogance and conceit. The parable calls to attention extreme
cases of human vanity, and the detrimental aspects of such behavior. In modern society narcissism
is considered a mental disorder, categorized by symptoms such as self importance and a lack of
empathy. Subsequently Dali s painting is perceived to articulate the strain of being blinded by
vanity and the horror of internal

Lust s Body Count Deyoung Analysis
Before reading Rebecca Konyndyk DeYoung s chapter on lust, my view on the effects of lust were
very different. In the section entitled, Lust s Body Count, DeYoung says, We often live with lust s
collateral damage for the long term (DeYoung, 171). Thus, I agree with DeYoung that the aftermath
of lusting is more a long term and widespread problem than it appears on the surface. Initially, I
always thought of lust being an internal sin that did not really affect anyone outside of the
individual partaking in the lustful activities, but DeYoung has changed my mind about that. I think
part of the problem with my former belief is that the first act that comes to mind is pornography. I
think that pornography generally just has consequences for

Salary caps are not what they should have in professional sports. They limit how much the team
can pay their players. Salary caps aren t very fair to the players who play and have the risk of

Marc Lamont Hill s Speech Analysis
Dr. Marc Lamont Hill gave the 2017 All Bonaventure Reads keynote at St. Bonaventure
University this past Monday. During the summer, the freshman class all read Hill s book,
Nobody: Casualties of America s War on The Vulnerable from Ferguson to Flint and Beyond. In
the book, many thought provoking events that are a part of America s history were discussed.
The theme of the keynote was why people are put into the category of a nobody. Hill opens his
speech by relating the events that he talked about in his book to current events, like football
players kneeling during the National Anthem. Bringing up a current event is a good opener
because it engaged his young audience by stating a controversial subject. Hill said that when he
first started writing he wanted to write a book about what happened in Ferguson, Missouri with
Michael Brown. He showed emotion when he was giving this part of the speech to give emphasis
to the tragedy of what happened. When it occurred, he had to do a story on it for the news without

Lastly, he says, those who are given the most, should do the most. In this quote, he is saying, if
someone has more resources given to them, they should use those resources to help others who
do not have as many as they need. Investing in people is the most important thing you can do.
The speech that Dr. Marc Lamont Hill gave was full of purpose. The keynote was a very nice

The Use Of Mise-En-Scene In Film
Mise en scene, or the outer circle of technique: It should go without saying that cinema is
fundamentally a visual medium and Mise en scene is the term, albeit undefined, which most
encapsulates this sentiment. In essence, it s the composition of a frame. This is a broad scope of
course, but it includes the way a camera moves, the setting/costumes/props, lighting, as well as the
physical performances of the actors. Unfairly maligned for being all tell and no show, it s clear that
Breen does understand the concept of mise en scene:

Cognitive Theories Of Cognitive Behavioral Theories
Cognitive behavioral theories theorize that human behavior is caused by internal or mental events,
and in addition to external events proposed by behavioral theories. Research suggests that cognitive
behavioral theories have shifted their focus, as seen in the first, second, and third waves of the
theories. For example, initially the focus of cognitive theories was on identifying and changing
maladaptive thoughts. However, recent models of cognitive theories seek to help people evaluate,
and change their thoughts, beliefs, and assumptions. In addition, these newer models of cognitive
behavioral theories seek to help clients understand the interactional nature of their thoughts and
behaviors (Jones Butman, 2012). Conversely, at the core of cognitive behavioral theories is the
assumption that human behavior is affected by cognitive activities. In addition, cognitive
behavioral therapists theorize that human behavior can be monitored and altered, and also human
behavior can be changed through rational change (Hersen Gross, 2008). Philosophical Assumptions
Studies show that cognitive behavioral theories do not have explicit philosophical assumption.
However, concepts of cognitive behavioral theory are associated with assumptions from a critical
rationalism standpoint. At the core of critical rationalism is the belief that knowledge is only
gained by falsifying hypotheses derived from scientific theories. Overall, knowledge is seen as
objective and not subjective.

The Cold Embrace
The night in the city was going to be especially cold tonight. The sky had been overcast for almost
the entire day, leading to a brief although torrential downpour in the mid afternoon. The streets of
the Bronx outside the third story apartment window that Leonard Jefferson Bennings now looked
out were saturated from the July rainstorm and shone with a glimmer he remembered seeing from
his bedroom window in Massachusetts many years ago. He wondered if he would ever get to see
his childhood home again, and, if he did, would the world of his youth still exist even there? Like
the final beams of sunlight of the day, his hope was growing faint as he looked out on what had

Without even acknowledging the presence of any other human being in the room, she walked
out toward the kitchen, probably either to get a drink of water, or to find Eric, the group leader.
Leonard had always wondered why it was that she was so consumed by hatred for the Germans.
Admittedly, few people in the world had any real reason to love the Nazis, especially with them
burning their way across half of New England and in control of or allied with most of rest of the
world. Still, Christina s hatred seemed much more personal than pure patriotism; even those in the
group who had lost family in the invasion didn t show the level of unbridled hate she did.
The only clue she had ever given as to the source of her rage was one she never spoke. On the
extremely rare occasions that she was seen without a full sleeved shirt (an oddity in mid July),
Leonard had seen scars, almost like whip marks across her back. She had never spoken of them, or
even acknowledged their existence, but Leonard had always suspected that perhaps she had been

Character Analysis Owen Meany
In the book A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, my favorite character is Owen Meany. I
admire the way he cares about his friends and is willing to do anything for them. Owen has a
dream about his death, and believes that Johnny will be present. Owen does not want to put him
at risk, so he cuts off John s finger to prevent him from going into the war. This would be
difficult, but he loves John and wants to protect him. Another thing I enjoy is Owen s jokes and
humor. He constantly lightens the mood with his clever remarks. I respect how confident he is.

Despite how The Voice comes across to some of the faculty, Owen is simply trying to make a

smart enough to skip a grade, he volunteers to repeat a grade in order to stay with John: WHAT

extremely demanding. He takes control of the Christmas pageant and changes everything to the

Charles Darwin s Theory Of Natural Selection
Over time, different species learn to adapt to their living environment in order to survive. If a
genetic change of a characteristic is passed down through generations, a formation of a new species
occurs (G, Linstead et. al., 2012). A variation to the characteristic of an individual can increase its
survival and this provides more opportunities to reproduce. When the individual reproduces, the
offspring benefit in result of the heritable genes and eventually through generations, the variants
will be spread throughout the entire population (Montgomery, 2009). Charles Darwin s theory of
natural selection can be supported through both fossils and homologous structures.
A technique that supports Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection is fossils. A fossilis the
remnant or imprint of a previous animal embedded in rock and preserved in petrified form (J,
Castro, 2013). Fossils are used and are still important today as they demonstrate the different types
of species of animals and plants that were on the earth at various times in the past. This assists
palaeontologists, who study the fossils hominid, learn about the creatures that once lived on the
earth. This includes the human ancestors and their relatives, and how they have developed over
time (G, Linstead et. al., 2012). There are various ways in which fossils support Charles Darwin s
theory of natural selection. Fossils provide a way for palaeontologists to reconstruct the creatures,
plants and humans of the past. It

Essay on Hip Hip
The Introduction
Hip hop as a ding an sich is marked by some confusion. Consider the name; is it quot;hip hop, quot;
quot;hip hop quot; or quot;hiphop quot;? You will see all three used in titles in this bibliography.
Hip hop is, at the same time, a cultural phenomenon that developed in the late 70 s in the projects in
Brooklyn and the Bronx, and a musical style from that phenomenon. Nevertheless, hip hop has
become a pervasive element of popular culture, as witnessed by this bibliography. There are hip
hop exercise videos, children s books as well as books, magazines, magazine articles and theses
about it.

Van Gogh Motives
As humans have changed and progressed throughout history, so has their art from cave paintings to
Greek sculptures to the incredible realism of the Renaissance. In addition, throughout history art
has been questioned why did the artist make this? What are they trying to convey? What is the
purpose, the symbol, the reason? Every artist has a motive for creating, and it may be as honorable
as challenging a social injustice, or as mundane as a commission. The three most universal motives
for making art are for beauty, for money on commission, and to convey a message about the artist s
thoughts or emotions on a subject. Each of these motives can be influential, however conveying a
concept through art is the most powerful, as it has the ability to change the way society operates.
It is often said that art is meant to be beautiful for the audience. Artists follow this idea by making
and being inspired by beautiful objects such as nature or other people. One artist who displays this
is Vincent Van Gogh. Many of Van Gogh s paintings are based on the things around him, including
flowers, stars, or people. It is known that he was not on commission, as he only sold one painting in
his life. Although it is true that many of his paintings show great emotion, Van Gogh was not
specifically trying to say something, and any message in his paintings are assumed from his mental
illnesses. Although not considered beautiful in their time, Van Gogh painted to capture the beauty
around him. For

A Limited Liability Company
iA Limited Liability Company (LLC) is a business structure allowed by state statute. LLCs are

Owners of an LLC are called members. Since most states do not restrict ownership, members may
include individuals, corporations, other LLCs and foreign entities. There is no maximum number
of members. Most states also permit single member LLCs, those having only one owner.

Food Is Essential For A Person Alive Essay
Food, it is essential to keep a person alive. Without food, one cannot obtain the energy that they
need to perform everyday activities. Fortunately, with today s technologies and the knowledge
that humanity has gained over the centuries, food is a commodity that is plentiful for many
people. However, the bountiful amount of food and easy access to it has caused humans to
become ignorant in how their food is made, grown, and how it gets to their table. Many are also
ignorant to the different categories that their food could be classified as. Such categories are
organic, non organic, GMO s and much more. However, as time moves on, citizens are taking
greater interest in growing their education on what they eat. They are learning about how it is
grown, prepared, and what types are more beneficial for them and their families. Unfortunately,
many get their information from illegitimate sources. These sources being media, un educational
websites, blogs, and many forms of propaganda. The information that the illegitimate sources give
out cause the true information to become censored in a way. Where it is now hard for consumers
to determine, what is the correct information and what is built on lies and opinions. Such example
is the debate between organic, non organic, and GMO s. The media and other sources claim that
organic is much more beneficial for you than nonorganic, and that GMO s and conventionally
grown produce are extremely harmful for you. However, this is not the case at

The Importance Of ESTJ Identities
I understand that my interest in such administration is high in popularity based social orders,
and shaping no under eleven percentage of the populace. It s not a surprise that some America s
leaders have been ESTJs. I am a solid believer to the guideline of law and power that should be
earned by having ESTJ identities; I do show others how it was done, exhibiting my dedication
and deliberate genuineness, and avoiding of lethargy and deceiving, particularly in work. If
anybody proclaims hard, manual work to be a fabulous approach to make such an outstanding
character, it is me as an ESTJs. I am always mindful of my surroundings. I live in a world of clear,
unquestionable certainties the surety of my insight implies that even against overwhelming
resistance, I adhere to my standards and push a clearly vision of what is and is not acceptable. My
assessments aren t merely short talk either, as ESTJs are more than willing to jump into the most
difficult undertakings, enhancing activity arranges and sorting subtle elements along the way,
making even the most confounded assignments appear to be pure and receptive, and that is exactly

In reality, I meet my guarantees, and if there are accomplices or subordinates endanger them

The Great Chilean Earthquake On Chile
Earthquakes throughout the world have devastated certain areas of the world, some places more
than others. One area of the world that has been absolutely devastated by many earthquakes
throughout time is the South American country, Chile. While there have been many very
substantial earthquakes in Chile, one stands out most, The Great Chilean Earthquake. On May 22,
1960, The Great Chilean Earthquake hit Chile. This is the largest earthquake ever recorded with a
magnitude of 9.5 out of 10.0. It absolutely traumatized the country of Chile and surrounding areas.
Just the earthquake itself wasn t the only thing doing damage, the quake caused monstrous
tsunamis across the coast of Chile and it even caused tsunamis in Hawaii, Japan, and the
Philippines. For an earthquake to not only cause mass destruction to the area of the quake, but to
strongly affect other places, just goes to show how powerful The Great Chilean Earthquake was.
Not only has Chile have to deal with this great earthquake, Chile has been hit with almost 30 8.0
earthquake throughout time that we know of. Chile also has 2 of the top 10 biggest earthquakes
ever recorded. The Great Chilean Earthquake and the the amount of big earthquakes Chile has to
deal with, definitely affects how the Chilean people live everyday, they have to live in fear that the
next Big One could devastate their country again.
The Great Chilean Earthquake was caused when the Nazca Plate subducted under the South
American Plate. This exact

Persuasive Essay On Sports And Politics
In recent years we as a country have seen a huge spike in instances where sports and politics
collide. Two examples would include the Anthem protests and the Hands up don t shoot entrance
into the stadium by the National Football League s St. Louis Rams. If you take a deeper look
back into the history of the United States you see many more examples of different varieties
throughout every sport. Most notably one of the greatest boxers of all time, Mohammed Ali,
refusing to be drafted to a war he disagreed with and Jackie Robinsonbreaking the color barrier in
baseball.
Baseball is easily described as America s pastime. Personally, baseball is my favorite sport to
play and attend. It is pure irony that the earliest known mention of baseball in the United States
occurred in my home state of Massachusetts in Pittsfield in 1792. It was recorded because a law
was made banning the playing of a baseball game within eighty yards of the town meeting house.
It is important to note that the first mention of baseball in history was in reference to a political
matter. The game was played under modern day rules by upper middle class white men in the
1840 s by the New York Knickerbockers. In 1857, baseball officially was in full swing with sixteen
New York ball clubs joining the first ever chapter of the National Association of Baseball.
(Baseball Reference). Baseball has had numerous instances where specific players or teams have
faced some sort of social/political adversity that

Theme Of Redemption In Gran Torino
GRAN TORINO
Identify critical moments in the film Gran Torino where Walt Kowalski is transformed from a racist
tormented character to a compassionate father figure.
Gran Torino is a film directed by Clint Eastwood, with Eastwood who is also taking on the key role
as the main character and protagonist; Walt Kowalski. Eastwood plays a retired auto worker and
Korean War veteran who feels emptiness in his life. His character is happiest on his home porch,
beer in hand, dog his only ally, his lawn immaculate, despising the many Asian, Latino and black
families in his neighborhood. However, the redemption of such a character is critical to the
storyline as Walt becomes a reluctant hero, standing up to gang members who have totally unsettled
his lifestyle; an attempted theft of his prized possession, a 1972 Gran Torino, sets Walt on a mission
to rectify things for himself and his Hmong neighbors. Eastwood uses symbolism and cinemograph
techniques to exemplify the theme of redemption. The most notable moment when Walt becomes a
father figure, is when he confronts the gang at their house, just after sue was raped and beaten.
The film explores the possibility of redemption, second chances , and the hope that comes from
having a positive future. Both Walt and Thao experience redemption in the film. Walt is saved from
the guilt of a murderous past as a soldier and the disappointment of broken relationships within his
own immediate family. Ultimately, Walt finds peace with himself, with others and with God. Walt s
young neighbour, Thao is rescued from a future of crime and violence, and the shame of attempted
theft. Ultimately, Thao gains a future as a hard working, respectable American citizen and man. It
is evident from the beginning of the movie that Walt has a hard line attitude towards the church,
which is partly because of the pain and torment he experienced from Korea. Walt exhibits strong
racial slurs as he had strong racial prejudices, also mainly because of the 50 s style of thinking he
has and likewise from the time in Korea, as this is how they talked about them. It is symbolic as he
still thought and spoke like that back after the war, showing the audience that he is still at war, not

Classical Oration In A Few Good Men
Ross vs. Kaffee: Classical Oration in A Few Good Men With or without knowing it, everybody
makes arguments everyday. Whether a child making a point to their mother or a lawyer making a
point to the jury, everybody, sometimes unknowingly, uses methods of persuasions and classical
oration to make their point seem appealing, and to get other people to agree with them. In the
movie, A Few Good Men, militarylawyers Lt. Jack Ross and Lt. Daniel Kaffee, like any other
lawyer, must persuade and convince the jury whether the defendant is innocent or guilty.
Released in 1992, A Few Good Men, presents the story of Kaffee, who is trying to defend navy
officers Dawson and Downey who were accused of murdering Santiago, a fellow navy soldier.
Using the term Code Red, Kaffee insists that Dawson and Downey were only participating in a
hazing like activity to Santiago after being ordered by their commander to toughen Santiago up.
Ross, the prosecutor, states that Dawson and Downey had the intent to murder Santiago, as they
killed him by shoving a poisoned rag down his throat. Although a difficult case, Lt. Kaffee makes
an opening statement that is more compelling than the opening statement given by Lt. Ross by
using certain methods of persuasion and a traditional approach to classical oration. In his
opening statement, Kaffee defends his clients with the main idea that the two officers were only
following orders, and had no intent to kill Santiago. Kaffee starts off in exordium and to win the
attention of his audience he is informal and uses colloquialism. In the movie Kaffee appears to be
fairly laid back and comfortable in his chair and says that any claim against his own just ain t true.
Kaffee uses ethos here, by presenting his confidence with the topic, as he is so unworried by the
opening statement previously given by Ross, and by using colloquium makes himself familiar with
the audience. Instead of presenting a tough, stern, no feeling military man, Kaffe s actions and
words showcases that he wants to relate more with the jury and connect with them as people, not as
robotic military workers. Kaffee continues his argument with pathos, he appeals to the jury s
sympathy by stating how these men had to follow

The culture of music is one of the most ever evolving outlets society has, people from all around
the world can find common ground between simple beats and rythyms. Music genres are built
off of one another to develop new and unique genres, ranging from classical blues to heavy metal

today. Frank Sinatra is one of the most well known and influential singers throughout the history
of music, indisputably being the greatest singer of the 20th Century. Sinatra engineered the idea
of colloquially conventional, his music was a mix of romantics and compelling truth. In 1939
Frank Sinatra released, From the Bottom of My Heart a classic orchestra based song showing
the formal romance in his songs. In between the years 1943 and 1946 Sinatra had 17 Top 10
chart singles. After his limelight his career earnings dwindled down to $30,000 a record, as music
taste shifted away from Sinatra s style. He returned to fame as an actor throughout the 50 s to
regain his fame, and had another opportunity at the music industry in the 60 s. Little did he know
in 1966 through 1967 he would released three of his Top 10 singles. (Simon, and Shuster. Frank
Sinatra Biography. Rolling Stone.) Another band that allowed a positive change in music was The

  • 3. How Eleanor Roosevelt Changed The World Eleanor changed the way we view our first lady. We now know them as independent women who happen to have their husbands in Office. They take charge of changing the United States for the better of the citizens of the United States. Eleanor is the niece of the former president Theodore Roosevelt. She was born into wealthy New York family. Her father Elliott Roosevelt was a alcoholic and had a narcotic addiction. When their family went overseas for a vacation they sent Elliott to an asylum in France. Later Theodore sent him to an alcoholic center to help, located in Dwight,Illinois. Anna Hall Roosevelt, Eleanor s mother, died very early and was a shock to the entire family. Her mother died when she was eight years old, her 4 year old brother died a year after her mother, her dad died the year after her brother died. She was an orphan at 9 years and 10 months and lived with her grandmother... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally she was taught to read, write and speak Spanish, German, French, and Italian. Her Grandmother sent her to Allenswood Girls Academy, Wimbledon Common, London, England and had a strong bond with Marie Souvestre who became Eleanor s greatest emotional and educational influence. While she was there she was taught composition, music, drawing, painting and dance. Although there were no classes on history, geography, and philosophy Ms. Souvestre helped Eleanor find her love for them. President Theodore Roosevelt walked his niece Eleanor down the aisle on her wedding day. She married Franklin Delano Roosevelt. They met when Eleanor was on a train to the Hudson River and she met a young man, her distant cousin, and a man from Harvard. The couple had a secret courtship and later were engaged. • 4. Essay On Rattus Norvegicus The underlying theme between all three studies is microevolution, over time the Rattus Norvegicus were able to adapt to type of the environment they were reared in by adjusting their metabolism. Although they produced many progeny, the ones with the greatest fitness, and had produced the most young were the ones with the advantageous trait. They would either have a higher metabolism during cold climates or a low metabolism in a warm climate. There was a distinct inverse relationship between the thermal environment and metabolic rates found in these rats. The results from the first study indicated that rats were capable of responding to the energetic demands of their thermal environment with metabolic compensations. Throughout development, warm housed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The results showed that rats raised in cooler temperatures developed a greater body and coat mass that those of warm reared mats. This significant difference indicates that the environment plays an important role in the hair coat insulation. The rats reared in the cooler temperature had maintained a relatively heavier hair coat with darker fur while those that were raised in the warmer temperatures had relatively lighter hair in lighter color. The heavier hair coat plays a greater role in the maintenance of body temperatures of the Rattus Norvegicus due to high surface to volume ratio, which decreases with size and age. This notion supports the conclusions of the previous study where rats that were reared in the colder temperatures were smaller. It was essential for them to be smaller so that they their longer hair would have a higher surface to volume ratio. The differences found in the development of the coat mass relative to body mass as a result of thermal environment suggest that the Rattus Norvegicus adjust their hair coat insulation at the juvenile age of day 22 to reduce the energetic costs of thermoregulation in their housing ... For instance, Dell chose to distribute straight to the company with great success and cost savings and then later changed their plan to include selling through Wal Mart when the time called for it. Gateway however, decided to open their own stores but didn t sell their product from it. This led to the failure of Gateway. Poor distribution network designs can hurt customer satisfaction and increase costs hurting the profitability of the company. Two factors need to be considered when designing a distribution network; customer needs to be met and the cost of meeting customer needs. When thinking of customer needs it s important to consider what the distribution directly influences, which is response time, product variety, product availability, and customer experience, time to market, order visibility and return ability. Things that affect the cost of the distribution design are inventories, transportation, facilities and handling, information, sourcing and pricing. As the number of facilities increases, the inventory costs increase. It s important to decrease the number of facilities not only to save on inventory costs but also to cut down on facility costs. For transportation you have inbound and outbound with outbound being the bigger cost. Creating economies of scale in transportation is a great way to reduce costs. There are six design options for the distribution network which include manufacturer storage with direct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The setting of the story is also very confusing. The story takes place in a sort of post apocalyptic time where everything is sand and desert, but it is later revealed that there are other worlds. This story follows the journey of the gunslinger as he travels through harsh environments, trying to catch the man in black. The novel begins with the gunslinger moving through the desert, hot on the man in black s tracks. He then comes across an old farm. The farm is occupied by the farmer, Brown, and his bird, Zoltan. This period of Labour rule is often marked down as a poor performance on behalf of the labour party, critically looked upon by many historians. There were many failings under the rule of this government however the circumstances they were placed in caused severe restraints in their options. Wilson had been voted into government with the promise of central planning and the white heat of new technology , catching the mood of the moment, and making the public believe he was not just another old bumbling politician, but one who showed some promise in getting the country moving, and reinvigorating the lumbering economy. The act had popular support in the country as many people did not want to see their country being run by the trade unions. However inside the labour party the bill met much opposition and even with a majority of 100 it was clear that the bill would not get passed; the majority reason for which being that many labour party members believed, that with the economy in the state it was in, and the failure of the party to meet the measures promised in the manifesto, the working class were the last people they wanted to alienate, if they wished to run for re election. Unfortunately, some of the companies like VA Tech and DSI have had histories of forcibly removing thousands to millions of people from their homes. Even worse flooding of the reservoirs sometimes causes the surrounding areas where residence still occupied to be submerged killing those who remain, according to Maggie Ronayne from the report, The Cultural and Environmental Impact of Large Dams in Southwest Turkey. More will now be discussed of the many ecological impacts the Ilisu has on the communities of animal and plant life. In the same report written by Ronayne, she stated that a requirement of some international guidelines for the dam was to consult with the women of the area prior to construction. The companies falsified claims of speaking with the women. When asked on the conversations, they said the women agreed with building the dams because they wanted dishwaters. This was to imply that the women s major priority was to relinquish the burden of washing dishes, a task already stereotyped for women. Sadly, when the Kurdish Human Rights Project spoke with actual women from the surrounding areas, their opinions were quite different from what was said by the VA Tech. The impoverished areas could not even afford dishwashers, and felt the dam would do more harm to the land and their community than what was already happening. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Avoidance Strategies In The Workplace On the other hand, avoidance strategies are also often adopted as a coping mechanism for bullying. As Anderson, Labriola, Andersen, Lund, and Hansen (2015) reported victims of bullying remain passive and seldom ask for help therefore avoidance plays a pivotal role in depression. Depression via bullying and avoidance coping strategies is reflected in absenteeism levels in the workplace (McTernan et al., 2013) The study by Ortega et al. (2011) found that the risk of long term absence was higher for those exposed to bullyingthan for those not bullied. Victims of workplace bullying may adopt an avoidance strategy as a coping mechanism to escape the bully, by not attending work they avoid being bullied (Casimir et al., 2012). An avoidance strategy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Workplace bullying is a negative event and the interplay between such behaviour and the environment, namely negative and positive reinforcement, and negative and positive punishment, contributes to the development of depression (Kanter et al., 2008). The use of learned helplessness as an avoidance strategy is a further learning theory that reinforces behaviour by providing negative reinforcement which exacerbates and maintains depression (Cribb et al., 2006). Furthermore, using avoidance strategies such as absenteeism instead of coping with the event may cause victims to complain to others to receive sympathy and this positive reinforcement again exacerbates and maintains depression (Ramnero et al., 2016). Social observational learning further contributes to developing low self esteem and inadequate social skills which are risk factors of depression (Andersen et al., 2015), In addition, social observation learning through vicarious learning is a risk factor to developing depressive symptoms as witnessing hostile events may induce strong emotional responses (Bandura Richard, 1977). Rumination, as an adjunct behaviour in depression positively reinforces behaviour and predicts the length and severity of depression (Kanter et al., 2008). In sum, this paper has discussed how types of operant learning theories and social observational learning may explain how depression develops as a consequence of experiencing workplace bullying. As reported by Ramnero et al. (2016) implications of considering a learning theory approach to depression includes the development of clinical treatment strategies that understand the antecedents and consequences of behaviour as well as the biological and cognitive ... • 12. The Importance Of Pressure On High School Sports Pressure and High School Sports seem to go hand in hand these days. Whether we like pressure or not, it is difficult to avoid. We experience pressure because of standards that others expect us to accomplish. While some people may do well under pressure, many of us do bad under pressure. The Kimberly Girls Volleyballteam will experience a lot of pressure as they head into the State tournament this weekend. Expectations are very high for them because they have had a lot of success so far this season. I talked to a girl who is currently on the varsity volleyball team that is going to state. Payton is not a starter and doesn t get to see the court often but she is just as important as anyone else on the team. She discussed with me some of the expectations that coaches and fans have for them. Every game our coach always tells us not to be satisfied, and that s kinda our team moto. I definitely think that s the expectation from our coaches is to not be satisfied with a win or how we played just to always make it better. I believe the expectation from the fans is just to stay positive and work as hard as we can. With expectations high from the coaches and fans, this can add a lot of pressure and stress onto the girls. As Payton said, I definitely think that s the expectation from our coaches it to not be satisfied with a win or how we played just to always make it better, we can see how they are pressured to win again because they can t be satisfied with winning one game. They have expectations to make it far in their season because they are not satisfied after one game, they want to win more and be number one. I also talked to a fan, Quinn Johnson, and asked what he thought the pressures were on the girls this year. He replied with: I think this season the pressures are there own standards. Last years team was not as good so other teams and fans did not expect so much out of them. But after we won the FVA this year and got the #1 seed for the playoffs more pressure was added to the team coming into playoffs. This helps to see from a fan perspective what they believe the pressures are and what they expect the girls to accomplish this season. As you can probably see, with the girls success this year they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stereotypical Constructions of the Maori Race in the Media by Melanie Wall In her text Stereotypical Constructions of the Maori Race in the Media Melanie Wall (1997) explores two key ideas: how stereotypes gave Pakeha the justification to Colonise New Zealand and the contemporary stereotypes of Maori in the media. Wall s argument is centred on the idea that the stereotypes in the media today have been re created from the identity that was given to the Maori by Pakeha during colonisation. she further argues that not only that the stereotypes were given to the Maori but they were used to justify the colonisation of New Zealand. Wall goes on to say that racial disclosure has played a huge role in the colonisation of territories as stereotypes were used to justify the conceptual domination and the material exploitation of the new world (pg40). The Apartheid Of South Africa Apartheid in South Africa was not started in 1948 with the election that saw the National Party (NP) take office, it was just a term coined by NP after the publication of the Sauer Report of 1946. The Sauer report recommended consolidation of land reserves, controls over African urbanization and segregation of coloreds, Indians and blacks. Apartheid was more than just segregation though, it was a ruthless way of controlling a majority of the population within the country. The reason being it was supported by those who had power within the government, and those that had the power of the vote as well. Why Is It Important To Have Rules In Lord Of The Flies In the novel The Lord of the Flies a group of young boys are stranded on an island after their plane mysteriously crashes.I believe that William Golding was getting the point that a society cannot function without a basic set of rules and boundaries . Throughout the book their society does extremely well when they have leadershipand simple laws to keep the boys in place. When Jack decides to start anarchy and disrupts the balance of their system everything goes to hell. In the time Ralph was in charge one small boy died on the mountain but it was an accident in the time Jack was in charge two boys were brutally murdered, this just validates my point that a community can not survive with no laws or rules. The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing balanced on his knees, was set apart (22). I believe this proves that the conch represents order and government. The glasses on the other hand I believe that the glasses represent the power of ingenuity and science. He is not a successful man and never will be, he is however able to admit this, even in a harsh society as the one of the 1960s America. Biff knows he is a nothing and tries to make his father see that he is no good. I am a dime a dozen, Pop, and so are you. He begs for Willy to communicate with him and accept him for who he is. Metamorphosis Of Narcissus Comparative Essay The unconscious mind is the intersection of rationally irrational thought, formulated from the accumulation of memories and studied to uncover the depths of an individual. Surrealism focuses on the automatic, instinctive action, in relation to waking desires and conscious thought. Metamorphosis of Narcissus by Salvador Dali utilizes realistic imagery while alluding to a mythological narrative creating a representation indicative of a dream state. This is comparable to Claude Cahun s work Self Portrait s use of mirror imagery as a symbol to depict the difference between an individual s perception of oneself and reality. • 32. Cognitive Theories Of Cognitive Behavioral Theories Cognitive behavioral theories theorize that human behavior is caused by internal or mental events, and in addition to external events proposed by behavioral theories. Research suggests that cognitive behavioral theories have shifted their focus, as seen in the first, second, and third waves of the theories. For example, initially the focus of cognitive theories was on identifying and changing maladaptive thoughts. However, recent models of cognitive theories seek to help people evaluate, and change their thoughts, beliefs, and assumptions. In addition, these newer models of cognitive behavioral theories seek to help clients understand the interactional nature of their thoughts and behaviors (Jones Butman, 2012). Conversely, at the core of cognitive behavioral theories is the assumption that human behavior is affected by cognitive activities. In addition, cognitive behavioral therapists theorize that human behavior can be monitored and altered, and also human behavior can be changed through rational change (Hersen Gross, 2008). Philosophical Assumptions Studies show that cognitive behavioral theories do not have explicit philosophical assumption. However, concepts of cognitive behavioral theory are associated with assumptions from a critical rationalism standpoint. At the core of critical rationalism is the belief that knowledge is only gained by falsifying hypotheses derived from scientific theories. • 35. Charles Darwin s Theory Of Natural Selection Over time, different species learn to adapt to their living environment in order to survive. If a genetic change of a characteristic is passed down through generations, a formation of a new species occurs (G, Linstead et. al., 2012). A variation to the characteristic of an individual can increase its survival and this provides more opportunities to reproduce. When the individual reproduces, the offspring benefit in result of the heritable genes and eventually through generations, the variants will be spread throughout the entire population (Montgomery, 2009). Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection can be supported through both fossils and homologous structures. A technique that supports Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection is fossils. A fossilis the remnant or imprint of a previous animal embedded in rock and preserved in petrified form (J, Castro, 2013). In addition, throughout history art has been questioned why did the artist make this? What are they trying to convey? What is the purpose, the symbol, the reason? Every artist has a motive for creating, and it may be as honorable as challenging a social injustice, or as mundane as a commission. The three most universal motives for making art are for beauty, for money on commission, and to convey a message about the artist s thoughts or emotions on a subject. Each of these motives can be influential, however conveying a concept through art is the most powerful, as it has the ability to change the way society operates. It is often said that art is meant to be beautiful for the audience. Artists follow this idea by making and being inspired by beautiful objects such as nature or other people. Once they did, the mad rush was on to pass legislation allowing for the creation of LLCs in nearly all states. The world of business entities had been changed forever. Fortunately, with today s technologies and the knowledge that humanity has gained over the centuries, food is a commodity that is plentiful for many people. However, the bountiful amount of food and easy access to it has caused humans to become ignorant in how their food is made, grown, and how it gets to their table. Many are also ignorant to the different categories that their food could be classified as. Such categories are organic, non organic, GMO s and much more. However, as time moves on, citizens are taking greater interest in growing their education on what they eat. They are learning about how it is grown, prepared, and what types are more beneficial for them and their families. Unfortunately, many get their information from illegitimate sources. These sources being media, un educational websites, blogs, and many forms of propaganda. The information that the illegitimate sources give out cause the true information to become censored in a way. Where it is now hard for consumers to determine, what is the correct information and what is built on lies and opinions. Such example is the debate between organic, non organic, and GMO s. • 44. The Great Chilean Earthquake On Chile Earthquakes throughout the world have devastated certain areas of the world, some places more than others. One area of the world that has been absolutely devastated by many earthquakes throughout time is the South American country, Chile. While there have been many very substantial earthquakes in Chile, one stands out most, The Great Chilean Earthquake. On May 22, 1960, The Great Chilean Earthquake hit Chile. This is the largest earthquake ever recorded with a magnitude of 9.5 out of 10.0. It absolutely traumatized the country of Chile and surrounding areas. Just the earthquake itself wasn t the only thing doing damage, the quake caused monstrous tsunamis across the coast of Chile and it even caused tsunamis in Hawaii, Japan, and the Philippines. For an earthquake to not only cause mass destruction to the area of the quake, but to strongly affect other places, just goes to show how powerful The Great Chilean Earthquake was. Not only has Chile have to deal with this great earthquake, Chile has been hit with almost 30 8.0 earthquake throughout time that we know of. • 45. Persuasive Essay On Sports And Politics In recent years we as a country have seen a huge spike in instances where sports and politics collide. Two examples would include the Anthem protests and the Hands up don t shoot entrance into the stadium by the National Football League s St. Louis Rams. If you take a deeper look back into the history of the United States you see many more examples of different varieties throughout every sport. Most notably one of the greatest boxers of all time, Mohammed Ali, refusing to be drafted to a war he disagreed with and Jackie Robinsonbreaking the color barrier in baseball. Baseball is easily described as America s pastime. Personally, baseball is my favorite sport to play and attend. It is pure irony that the earliest known mention of baseball in the United States occurred in my home state of Massachusetts in Pittsfield in 1792. It was recorded because a law was made banning the playing of a baseball game within eighty yards of the town meeting house. It is important to note that the first mention of baseball in history was in reference to a political matter. The game was played under modern day rules by upper middle class white men in the 1840 s by the New York Knickerbockers. In 1857, baseball officially was in full swing with sixteen New York ball clubs joining the first ever chapter of the National Association of Baseball. (Baseball Reference). • 46. Theme Of Redemption In Gran Torino GRAN TORINO Identify critical moments in the film Gran Torino where Walt Kowalski is transformed from a racist tormented character to a compassionate father figure. Gran Torino is a film directed by Clint Eastwood, with Eastwood who is also taking on the key role as the main character and protagonist; Walt Kowalski. Eastwood plays a retired auto worker and Korean War veteran who feels emptiness in his life. His character is happiest on his home porch, beer in hand, dog his only ally, his lawn immaculate, despising the many Asian, Latino and black families in his neighborhood. However, the redemption of such a character is critical to the storyline as Walt becomes a reluctant hero, standing up to gang members who have totally unsettled his lifestyle; an attempted theft of his prized possession, a 1972 Gran Torino, sets Walt on a mission to rectify things for himself and his Hmong neighbors. Eastwood uses symbolism and cinemograph techniques to exemplify the theme of redemption. The most notable moment when Walt becomes a father figure, is when he confronts the gang at their house, just after sue was raped and beaten. The film explores the possibility of redemption, second chances , and the hope that comes from having a positive future. Both Walt and Thao experience redemption in the film. Walt is saved from the guilt of a murderous past as a soldier and the disappointment of broken relationships within his own immediate family. Ultimately, Walt finds peace with himself, with others and with God. Walt s young neighbour, Thao is rescued from a future of crime and violence, and the shame of attempted theft. Ultimately, Thao gains a future as a hard working, respectable American citizen and man. It is evident from the beginning of the movie that Walt has a hard line attitude towards the church, which is partly because of the pain and torment he experienced from Korea. Walt exhibits strong racial slurs as he had strong racial prejudices, also mainly because of the 50 s style of thinking he has and likewise from the time in Korea, as this is how they talked about them. It is symbolic as he still thought and spoke like that back after the war, showing the audience that he is still at war, not with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Classical Oration In A Few Good Men Ross vs. Kaffee: Classical Oration in A Few Good Men With or without knowing it, everybody makes arguments everyday. Whether a child making a point to their mother or a lawyer making a point to the jury, everybody, sometimes unknowingly, uses methods of persuasions and classical oration to make their point seem appealing, and to get other people to agree with them. In the movie, A Few Good Men, militarylawyers Lt. Jack Ross and Lt. Daniel Kaffee, like any other lawyer, must persuade and convince the jury whether the defendant is innocent or guilty. Released in 1992, A Few Good Men, presents the story of Kaffee, who is trying to defend navy officers Dawson and Downey who were accused of murdering Santiago, a fellow navy soldier. Using the term Code Red, Kaffee insists that Dawson and Downey were only participating in a hazing like activity to Santiago after being ordered by their commander to toughen Santiago up. Ross, the prosecutor, states that Dawson and Downey had the intent to murder Santiago, as they killed him by shoving a poisoned rag down his throat. Although a difficult case, Lt. Kaffee makes an opening statement that is more compelling than the opening statement given by Lt. Ross by using certain methods of persuasion and a traditional approach to classical oration. In his opening statement, Kaffee defends his clients with the main idea that the two officers were only following orders, and had no intent to kill Santiago. Kaffee starts off in exordium and to win the attention of his audience he is informal and uses colloquialism. In the movie Kaffee appears to be fairly laid back and comfortable in his chair and says that any claim against his own just ain t true. Kaffee uses ethos here, by presenting his confidence with the topic, as he is so unworried by the opening statement previously given by Ross, and by using colloquium makes himself familiar with the audience. Instead of presenting a tough, stern, no feeling military man, Kaffe s actions and words showcases that he wants to relate more with the jury and connect with them as people, not as robotic military workers. Kaffee continues his argument with pathos, he appeals to the jury s sympathy by stating how these men had to follow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
