Social And Individual Factors Affecting The Level Of Local...
INTRODUCTION:
The purpose of this study was to collect information on how people of a particular culture and region
make use of wild plants. Ethnobotany studies the interactions between people and plants in nature,
with influences of botany and anthropology and can contribute to discussions that link indigenous
human populations to areas of interest for biological preservation. Ethnobotany medicine, the
scientific term for traditional health care, encompasses the knowledge, skills, methods, practices, and
beliefs about health care found among the members of a community. These approaches take into
account the interests of indigenous communities involved in such areas in order to emphasize the
importance of the traditional knowledge of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
MATERIALS METHODES:
In order to document the utilization of indigenous medicinal plants, survey was carried out during the
Spring, summer and autumn of 2012 in the Namarestagh district (Mazandaran province) of Iran. The
survey was spread across the seasons so as to get maximum information. The information on
medicinal uses of the indigenous plants have been described after gathering information from general
local people and experienced aged rural folk. The research population consisted of 674 people,
including residents of the five villages. According to the study and collection of data and
characteristics of population, the sample size was determined using the equation Cochran (214 = n). A
total of 214 inhabitants from 5 villages were interviewed. The randomly selected respondents of
different ages from about 40 years and above were interviewed in local language, that is,
Mazandarani. A semi structured questionnaire was used to elicit information from the resource persons
using standard methods Information on local name of the plant, plant parts used for curing disease
their recipes and mode of administration were recorded. Plants collected during the surveys were
identified with the help of flora.Cronbach s alpha coefficients were calculated for different parts of the
questionnaire that the total value of 0.78 was determined to show the reliability of the questionnaire.

The Different Motives To Deal With The Devil In Snow White...
All the characters that make a deal with the devil all have their separate reasons, while some may be
wanting to live forever, wanting to be rich. Each have different motives to make a deal with the devil.
In the long run it doesn t end well. In the Snow White and the Huntsman, the queen wants to live
eternally and always be the fairest of them all by continuing to suck the youth from the young. She has
to do this every once in a while to stay the fairest . One day she asks the mirror on the wall who the
fairest of them all is and it replies saying that actually there is another girl that is more fair then her.
The mirror tells her if she also takes the girl s youth then she will never have to take the youth of the
young again. Snow white

Improving Quality And Safety For Patient Safety
The Role of the Leader in Evaluating Data to Improve Quality and Safety
Patient safety is a growing concern among healthcare professionals and the public (Goh, Chan,
Kuziemsky, 2013). As professional nurses, it is our duty to demonstrate improved safety for our
patients, visitors and guests to the facilities in which we serve. It is also our duty to prevent adverse
events and to view unfortunate incidents as learning opportunities to achieve a holistic view of patient
care. By improving patient safety, we accept responsibility for more positive patient outcomes and a
successful hospital stay. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the importance of data evaluation and
interpretation to improve patient quality and safety.

In reviewing the data set provided for this study, a large number of falls occurred between the hours of
3 a.m. and 7 a.m. This is the time that a phlebotomist typically enters the room for a morning blood
draw or the nurse wakes the patient for a vital sign check. The patients are still in a daze, and it is
possible after the clinical personnel leaves, the patient tries to climb out of bed unattended, resulting in
a fall (Stempniak, 2015). Lee (2015), states You disturb them, wake them up and they re groggy; then
they try to get up and go to the restroom by themselves. They overestimate their ability to function and
walk, resulting in a fall (Stempniak, 2015).
In addition to the falls data, the Walden University case study (2015) reported One full time employee
(FTE) of nursing assistants was moved from the night shift to the evening shift (Data Dashboard,
2015). This change in staff may contribute to the increased falls seen during the overnight hours. An
extra nursing assistant would be helpful as a variable rounder, someone to help the nurses and other
nursing assistants respond quickly if a patient s call bell is ringing or the patient is in distress.
Our report shows an increase in fall risks from 7 am to 11 am daily. This time coincides with patient
care, where nursing staff may be attending to one individual patient, often

Cognitive Strategies And The Risk Of Emotional Contagion
This study investigates different cognitive strategies in which people can reduce the risk of emotional
contagion.
Schoenewolf (1990, cited in Barsade, 2002, pp. 4) defined emotional contagion as a process in which
a person or group influences the emotions or behaviour of another person or group through the
conscious or unconscious induction of emotion states and behavioural attitude . This description has
been further supported by Hatfield, Cacioppo, Rapson (1992, pp. 153 154) who stated that emotional
contagion is when one unconsciously imitates the characteristics of another person, therefore allowing
oneself to feel and to be influenced by these emotions.
Current Study
This research aims to establish what strategy is most efficient in restricting the passing of emotions
between people. Participants, referred to as therapists in this study, listened to clients describing a
positive or negative situation. Self reports and facial affect were used as a means of measurement.
Participation engagement was also taken into consideration.
Two cognitive strategies most relevant to reducing emotional contagion identified by Gross and
Thomson (2007) are;
1. Attentional deployment, where one pays greater attention to particular features in an occurring
situation. The attentional deployment strategies for this study are; empathic imagery, where one must
mentally place themselves in the situation. Dissociation is the second attentional deployment strategy.

Differences Between Greek Theatre And Theatre
Opera and theater share many similarities especially since the former is influenced by the latter. In his
text, A Short History of Opera, Donald Grout defines opera as a drama in music: a dramatic action,
exhibited on stage with scenery by actors in costume, the words conveyed entirely or for the most part
by singing, and the whole sustained and amplified by orchestral music (4). Opera literally translates to
work. The first known opera that was performed was in 1597. However, interestingly enough, the
word opera was not used until 1634 (Grout 1). The origins of seventeenth century opera can be traced
back to Greek drama and medieval theatre. Throughout the seventeenth century, many different kinds
of operas can be found from countries such as Italy, Germany, and England. In order to fully
understand opera and its inner workings, it is important to locate and learn the origin of opera.
Greek drama is said to be the model on which the creators of modern opera at the end of the sixteenth
century based their work on (Grout 11). There are substantial differences between Greek drama and
opera. For example, in Greek theater, the cast was made up of only men and young boys (Grout 13).
Also, it is important to note that these plays were not sung entirely. Rather, many parts were spoken
out loud like the singing was left to the chorus (Grout 12). The chorus s main function was to express
opinions or give advice. They also conveyed emotions for the audience to react to (Grout 12).

Monopoly And Monopolistic Competitive Market
The study of Microeconomics tells us of the different market structures the economy is made of. For
the purpose of this paper, we will take an in depth look at three of these such market structures.
Monopoly and Monopolistic competitive market along with Oligopoly. We will look at how and why
these markets exist in conjunction with the advantages to the producer and the disadvantages to the
consumer. As we research Monopoly in detail, compare the monopolistic competitive market and
Oligopoly, we will also discuss the Gas market in relation to these types of markets. To begin to
understand monopolies, we have researched several things. Why do they exist? What do they do, in
response to the economy? Although, we don t see many monopolies now due to antitrust laws to
prevent monopolies from forming, there are natural monopolies. There are several reasons why
monopolies exist. These are known as barriers to entry. Scarce resources with one producer can limit
the number of other firms joining the market as competition. Increasing returns to scale prevents
smaller firms from entering an industry because as output rises average total cost falls. This in turn
enables these producers to grow and tolerate the monopoly. This is now where a natural monopoly is
formed. A single producer of an industry has a large cost advantage over other smaller firms, if they
existed in the industry. A natural monopoly includes local water, gas and electricity providers. These

Digestion Lab Report
Science Script
Introduction;
Everyday, we eat and drink, often taking it for granted. Most people disregard what happens within
our body during digestion process, So, what really happens in our body when we digest?
Scene 1; Mouth
Digestion first begins in the mouth, using mechanical digestion. Incisors first bite into the food
breaking the polymers into smaller monomers. As the food goes further into your mouth the food is
then ground by your molars. This breaks down the food into smaller particles, which is then mixed by
the tongue along with saliva. Saliva is secreted by the salivary glands into the mouth, and this saliva
contains enzymes to help break down the food. Complex carbohydrates, such as starch or glycogen,
will be broken down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the bolus enters the stomach, the lower oesophageal sphincter contracts to prevent acid reflux.
Folds in the stomach allow for the stomach to expand as the stomach fills. The stomach excretes
hydrochloric acid and other enzymes which allow for the break down of the bolus, as well as mucus to
help protect the lining of the stomach walls against the stomach acid. Protein digestion begins in the
stomach, where stomach acid of pH of 1 disrupts protein structure which allows for proteolytic
enzymes, also known as proteases, to reduce large proteins to polypeptides (Human Anatomy).
Stomach acid has numerous jobs in the breaking down of the bolus such as; rendering minerals more
soluble, maintains acidity, killing microbes and converts inactive digestive enzymes to their active
form. The muscle contractions in the stomach causes the bolus to turn into chyme, a food mixture with
a watery like texture. The chyme now enters the small intestine through the pyloric sphincter at the
base of the stomach, which regulates the rate at which chyme is released into the small

inability in many instances, to effectively meet customers needs. The USPS has the luxury of having

Essay on Honor in Henry IV
Honour in Henry IV Honor is one of those concepts that is seldom defined. One s reputation is based
on his or her honor, integrity, honesty, and purity. William Shakespeare s Henry IV is a one of his
many plays that deal with the varying ideas of honor, as well as issues of courage, loyalty, and
ambition, interposing examples of dishonor, weakness, and the deceitful plots among both the
drunkards and noblemen. Shakespeare utilizes suggestive metaphors to create illusions, imagery, and
to reinforce the different views of the major issues people were faced with in his time and in ours. His
plays often focus on the imagery, either on some obvious important symbol, or some image pattern
that recurs throughout the work. Readers are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Henry IV must also contend with his son, Prince Hal, who s not the honorable prince he had
hoped him to be. He feels it is an honorable spoil not to have a son who is the theme of honor s
tongue, when he learns of Northumberland s son Hotspur s victories, which, should be a conquest for
a prince to boast of (1.1.74,80, 76). Pangs of jealousy strike Henry s heart caused by the differences
between his son and Northumberland s. So much so, he wishes it could be proved that someone, or
something, had exchanged in cradle clothes, their sons at birth (1.1.85 87). Act one, scene one, stresses
the motif of honor in war, in characters, and, most importantly, in offspring. However, while Henry
sees riot and dishonor in his son, Hal sees a father who has stolen his title by disgracing a king
(1.1.84). Shakespeare wouldn t dream of imposing his personal beliefs of who is honorable or who is
dishonorable for the simple fact that it is obvious honor is perceived differently by each individual, as
in each character s perception and the imagery that surrounds that character. As Hal tries to discover
the true meaning of honor, readers take the journey along with him. Hal realizes that honor is
ambiguous when utilized to plead for emotional retort, yet leaves no margin for error when used as
personal description, Yet herein will I imitate the

In the Enuma Elish poem, a reminder of Christianity is evident when Marduk (a god) says, I shall

Hebrew belief declares that God says, Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness... (New

Eat Move Sleep
It s difficult to know when to set boundaries around your health at work because the decline is so
gradual. Allowing stress to build up, losing sleep, and sitting all day without exercising at all add up.
These words, written by Travis Bradberry, remind us that several things can affect our health,
including sitting too much. The truth is, sitting all day is damaging to the body and mind. In today s
world, many jobs are highly sedentary and do not require workers to move around much. Although
sitting is the most common way to work in an office, there are many serious health risks to sitting all
day and there are desks and equipment that can help reduce the amount of sedentary time at work.

Participants in one study felt sore during the first several weeks using the sit stand desk (Dutta,
Walton, and Pereira, 2015). Sore muscles mean loss of productivity, which is a risk each company
makes when purchasing the desks (Karol and Robertson, 2015). Workers take time to transition
between their normal way of working and the new, active way. The work station design must allow the
worker to reach all the tools he or she needs (Corlett, 2009). This means a corded phone or computer
may not reach the height of the standing desk. True, there are ways to fix that problem, but companies
do not want to create more problems trying to fix one problem. Workers also have less work space
available with this type of desk and because they are taller, workers lose their privacy (Dutta, Walton,
and Pereira, 2015). Although there are some concerns about the desks, participants in a study said, the
benefits outweigh the drawbacks associated with space limitations (Dutta, Walton, and Pereira, 2015,

How Did Mrs. Dunlap Influenced My Writing
Writing is often considered mundane and banal to some students. In fact, people have even written
things down since the beginning of time. I dreaded writing until I had Mrs. Dunlap for 4th block
English during my 8th grade year at Mount Juliet Middle. This is the story about how she made me
the writer I am today with what I like to call Write speration.
When I first went back for my last middle school year, I secretly hoped that I would get a great
English teacher, and I liked her from the first day. She had us do what is called Daily Grammar
Practice (DGP), which greatly strengthened my grammar skills. Mrs. Dunlap also did a unit on World

It wasn t until Mrs. Dunlap had us read a classic book that got me hooked. The book was called The
Outsiders, and it was unlike anything I had ever read. We dove into the book, exploring its deeper
meaning. She taught me to go to the heart of the story/poem/play and understand the author s purpose
for writing it, from Catching Fire to The Diary Of Anne Frank. It was then that I got inspired to write
my first play, Kingdom Rock.
Since Kingdom Rock was the first play that I had ever written, I felt that Mrs. Dunlap herself should
be the first to read it. After she had finished reading, she brought it back to me and whispered Good
job Kiana, I liked it. She liked it! It made me feel all bubbly inside to think that Mrs. Dunlap, the one
who had inspired me to write it, LIKED it. She encouraged me to write more, which inspired me to
raise the bar.
I write almost every day with her in mind. I am a Sophomore in high school now, and I ve had many

What Does The Monkey s Paw Mean
Taking place in a countryside home W.W. Jacob s short story The Monkey s Paw illustrates the White
family s two day interaction with a seemingly innocent mummified monkey s paw. Each character
presented in the short story represents natural human traits that can prove to be negative when greed
and curiosity and are involved. The use of symbolism throughout the story proves to be vital to the
reader, as it allows him or her to understand the importance of every action done to the monkey s paw
has an opposite consequence. This correlates to everyone on Earth s predetermined fate and the
problems that an individual could face when greed overcomes their needs, even when it is for a better
or worst life. When individuals are consumed by greed, like the White family, they must accept the
consequences no matter how severe it is when it is something they truly seek in life. With Jacob s
overall message of the dangers of greed throughout the story, someone might perceive the natural
eagerness to make one s life better a positive trait instead of a negative trait. However, the first
sentence of The Monkey s Paw is the quote be careful what you wish for, you may receive it written

Essay about Tourette Syndrome
Tourette Syndrome
Works Cited Not Included
Tourette Syndrome was named for George Gilles de la Tourette, who first discovered the syndrome in
1885. Today there is still a mystery surrounding the disorder, it?s causes and it?s cures. But one of the
biggest mysteries is an associated behavior called coprolalia. This symptom is the uncontrolled
swearing or socially unacceptable utterances that some with Tourettes experience. Although despite
the media?s fascination, Tourette syndrome is not the cursing disease many believe it to be.
This baffling neurological disorder is characterized by repetitive motor and/or vocal tics. The
identifying symptom of TS seems to be tic disorders. ?A tic is a brief, repetitive, purposeless, ... Show

There are also utterances of insults and racial comments (Bruun 41). This seems the most commonly
recognized tic disorder of Tourettes. When most think of Tourette they automatically assume the
random cussing. Actually this seems to be a rare symptom. ?Coprolalia, the symptom that the general
public associates most often with TS, and it is not common?(Bruun 41).
It only occurs it a small minority of TS individuals. The numbers are an estimated 5 30% as reported
by the Tourette Syndrome Association in 1993. Some relate the coming on of an inappropriate word as
hard to control as a sneeze. They can feel it coming on but are unable to control it even with
medication (Michigan 1). One of the characteristics of coprolalia that sets it apart from just simply
swearing is that words come out compulsively. Most often when a person is angry but even if they are
just under stress (Kozlowski 1).
Causes of TS are still being debated and most leads are pointing to genetic factors. The understanding
of it seems to be incomplete and unfinished. But in 1999 researchers announced that they had found
evidence suggesting a link between chromosomes 4 and 8 and TS. Though there still is no clearly
identified gene to date. So all they can conclude is if one parent has TS there is a 50/50 chance for the
child to carry it unless it is liked by gender (Packer 5). A study done by Dr. Ruth Bruun indicated a
tendency toward a decrease in severity as patients grow in

How Is Calypso In The Odyssey
Homer characterizes Calypso as a beautiful goddess who loves and deeply cares about Odysseus
through her actions and her dialogue with the man of twists and turns, Odysseus. In the novel, The
Odyssey, Odysseus is stranded on an island with an exquisite nymph named Calypso. There, Calypso
falls in love with Odysseus, but sadly for her, the feeling is not mutual.
One way that Homer displays Calypso s immense love for Odysseus is by having Calypso ask
Odysseus to stay with her forever and accept immortality. Evidence for this claim occurs in book five
where the angry Calypso shouts to the Gods, and I welcomed him warmly, cherished him, even vowed
to make the man immortal, ageless, all his days... (Homer pg.156). The dialogue is hollering that

ABSTRACT Nowadays, English has become an international language all over the world. Many
people have learnt it as the second language after their mother tongue . Thus for Vietnam, English has
gradually become the most widely used language in all kinds of international relations. Studying
English in a country where English is considered as foreign language, we do not have many people

2. Preparation Strategies
Listen to spoken English from multiple sources as much as possible. Listen to English spoken movies
and English spoken TV channels, listen to the radio and as many other listening sources as you may
find. It would be better if your passages are academic or close to what is in TOEFL® iBT. The more
you practice listening, the better listener you will become.
Listen for the main idea. It is usually found at the beginning of the listening passages, while the details
are dispersed throughout the lecture. The main idea will give you understanding of what the
conversation/lecture is about. Then you may listen for details.
Learn to find how the ideas are presented in the listening passage. Some of the main relations between
ideas include cause/effect, compare/contrast, and steps in a process.
Learn to listen for signal words that indicate different part of the passage introduction, major steps,
examples, conclusions, etc.
Build your vocabulary. While listening, try to guess the meaning of unfamiliar words from context. It

Introduction
The Christ of Christianity made radical claims in regards to his relationship to Judaism. Jesus was no
timid Jewish rabbi. He claimed that he was the fulfillment of the entire Jewish Tanakh! Luke quotes
the Christ as saying, all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and
the Psalms must be fulfilled. (Luke 24:44) Jesus reinterpreted Jewish symbols and re applied them to
himself. (Wilson, 55) The many followers of Jesus today are still offending Jews by claiming that the
Jewish religion is incomplete and no longer salvific without the incorporation of the Christ. Modern

(Acts 7)
The Tabernacle and the Temple Christians argue that even the Tabernacle of Moses and the Temple of
Solomon testify about Christ. The author of the book of Hebrews tells us why God s patterns for the
Tabernacle were so precise and specific: Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the
heavens to be cleansed with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven
itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us (Hebrews 9:23 24). The Tabernacle is a partial
reflection of heaven. Evangelist and author, Theodore Epp, illustrates in his book, Portraits of Christ in
the Tabernacle, that every single item and area in the Tabernacle foreshadowed Christian truths. He
bases several connections on the structure of the temple. The open Outer Court, the semi restricted
Holy Place, and the exclusive Holy of Holies are compared to man s body, soul, and spirit; Jesus claim
to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life; and the system by which one comes to approach God. (10 21)
One should consider God s intent for the Tabernacle in the first place: Let them construct a sanctuary
for Me, that I may dwell among them (Exodus 25:8) The purpose of the Tabernacle was so that God
may have a place to dwell among His people. God could not dwell with His people unless their sins
were atoned for. The

Jack Kerouac s On The Road With Sal Paradise
Readers spend much of Jack Kerouac s On the Road with Sal Paradise, the narrator, in his travels
throughout the United States trying to escape the rigors of his old life. An issue arises for Paradise
because every time he begins to settle down somewhere the place turns old and his desire for
movement returns. Paradise s desire for movement eventually becomes second nature to him. He
thrives on the uncertainties of the road and the people he sees only get passing reactions and glances at
him from other people on the road. Throughout his journeys, trouble always finds Paradise like when
he gets stuck in the mud in Texas with Dean Moriarty and his girlfriend Marylou (149). Paradise falls
asleep after freeing the car and wakes with mud caked and stuck to him. No matter where Paradise
goes and what he tries, his past always follows him, his mud sticks to him. Kerouac s novel s storyline
revolves around the journeys of Paradise to escape his past, but none of the people he meets or sees
along the way truly allows for his freedom. Movement becomes necessary for Paradise survive the
rigors of the world. Paradise, with Moriarty, could no deal with the rigors of normal, everyday life.

Role Of A Human Resource Department
Role and Function of a Human Resource Department
Human resources (HR) are so much more than the traditional view of an administrative function
within the organization. If properly developed and initiated HR can become a strong, strategic
business partner. This paper looks at the purpose and role of human resources as a strategic partner as
well as its impact on the responsibilities of an HR department.
Purpose and Role
As businesses evolve and grow so do the purpose and role of an HR department. Once traditionally
thought of only as an administrative department, HR has grown to become a vital part in any strategic
organization. The traditional role for HR professionals focuses on recruitment, selection, salary,
benefits, training, evaluation, rewards, and discipline. In many organizations, executives feel that their
managers can do the work eliminating the need for HR. Human resources can be applied to any
activity within the organization (Nica, 2013). HR professionals focus on finding the appropriate
balance of workforce supply and how efficient and productive the workforce is. Employees are now
being recognized as a vital asset to an organization s success and have extended the strategic role of a
HR department (Anca Ramona, 2013).
Responsibilities of the HR Department
From the traditional administrative department, human resources take on essential responsibilities to
increase organizational performance. HR has begun to focus on employee development and

The cars of the street are powered by gasoline, or as some may know it petroleum. Some heavier
vehicles run on diesel and its domestic variants. The following are some of the properties of these
dominating fuels.
1) Petrol/Gasoline: This is primarily a clear fuel that is derived from petroleum that is used primarily
as a fuel in internal combustion engines. It consists mostly of organic compounds obtained by the
fractional distillation of petroleum, enhanced with a variety of additives.
2) Diesel: This is liquid fuel used in diesel engines, whose fuel ignition takes place, without any spark,
as a result of compression of the inlet air mixture and then injection of fuel. There are majorly 3 types
of diesels crude/petroleum derived, synthetic, and biomass derived diesel. All three forms however
hold the similar properties.

The Prince Of Tides By Pat Conroy
The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy is a compelling narrative in which an ordinary southern South
Carolina family, the Wingos, experience extraordinary circumstances deeply rooted in the canticles of
childhood affliction. It is a narrative of survival; survival of familial bonds, mortality, and unaffected
love when the Wingo parents, Lila and Henry Wingo, thoughtlessly wreak havoc on the fragile lives of
their children: Tom, Luke, and Savannah Wingo. It is a story of sand dollars, marsh tides, shrimp,
marsh hens, meandering boats through the salt marsh of Colleton, and everything the South Carolina
sun imprints upon permanently. Most importantly, The Prince of Tides is the story of Tom Wingo, a
white Southern male, who represses his past until he reconciles with the wreckage he abandons in the
salt marshes and consequently, liberates himself from his internal affliction. Tom Wingo lives on
Sullivans Island, South Carolina the sanctuary in which he neglects his past with his three daughters
and his wife, Sallie; however, their family dynamics do not replicate those of the archetypal Southern
family. For one, Tom takes care of the domestic affairs while Sallie brings home the money as she
divulges into the disciplined study of medicine. In the 1980s, the domestic Southern Belle and hard
working, sexist, racist male were prevalent in the distinct culture of the South (Conlee 4). It is evident
Tom adores his daughters, but the translation of his love comes in subtle

Summary Of Tim Winton s Short Story Big World
Discovery of self may be a common process that can improve and deepen understanding of the
individuals and the world around them. It is through these new understandings that individuals are
able to both reunite with themselves and the wider society. This concept is presented clearly in the
poem The door by Miroslav Holub representing that change in self involves taking chances and
opportunities and the positive consequences of change. Holub conveys change as an individual s
commitment to take new opportunities presented to them, resulting in a new perspective of life. The
short story Big world by Tim Winton reveals that self exploration and the substantial growth and

The short story Big world by Winton emphasizes the intention that there are moments, people, times

themselves. Much like the protagonist s experience in the film Life of Pi , so does Winton s
protagonists in the short story display final epiphany come as a outcome of his loneliness. He is
isolated because of the plot twist made by Meg, who in the story builds a connection with his best
friend, Biggie while they are on a road trip. It is through his segregation and observing them that he
then realises and notices a ominous truth about himself and the relationship he has with Biggie: ... he s
enjoying being brighter than her...it s me all over. It s how I am with him and its not pretty. Through
this, the protagonist suffers, realising the detrimental and unproductive environment of his
relationship. This epiphany leads him to become even more secluded and alert that he must move on if
he is to find and discover joy and progress. The story also reconnoitres the idea of change of self and
attitudes towards others, where moments can express a person s perspective towards others around
them and life. This statement is accurate as the narrator comes to terms with his attachment with
Biggie, that s how it started. A single decisive

Video Games Violence Essay
At least every child has played video games once in their lives. There are various genres and types of
video games such as action, first person shooters, adventure, education, role playing, strategy, and
many more. 89% of video games contain some violent content (Slife, 2008). The most addictive,
common, and popular video games among children are the violent video games (Slife, 2008). A lot of
video games these days depict real life violence meaning that the settings and plots of these video
games are taken from real life wars and events. For example, in Call of Duty, the plot is being in
World War 2 and doing campaign missions identical to World War 2 events. While playing a video

There is no clear relationship between violent video games and real life violence and most people do
not act out after playing games.
Some people such as Douglas Gentile who is a Developmental psychologist believe that video games
cause real life violence and children acting out in violent ways. For example, in 2006, an 18 year old
named Devin Moore was arrested in Alabama on suspicion of car theft and then attacked a police
officer, stole his gun, shot two officers, and fled in the police car (Layton). He had no criminal history
but it has been said that he played a lot of Grand Theft Auto prior to the killings, which could have led
him to do what he did. Clearly, the video game affected his behaviors and he decided to mimic the
game and do the same things from the game in real life. Another example is the Columbine shooters
Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold apparently played a lot of violent video games such as Wolfenstein 3D,
Doom , and Mortal Kombat before attacking their high school (Layton). The Columbine shooters were
affected by video games, it made them more violent, and they their actions during the shooting were
very similar to the violent video games. In addition, when playing video games, the game is very
interactive, repetitive, and is based on a reward system so the gamer is bound do learn from the game

Often the two become confused: lives and human tragedy are considered a product, something that
will engender interest and thereby generate revenue. The greater the suffering, the more successful the
program and the greater market share.
Dawe is concerned that we have become desensitised to human suffering because it is presented to us
as entertainment: a product rather than an issue. The irony is that we have become emotionally
distanced from reality even though the world enters our homes via television. The title and the film
description are references to The Good Earth based on a novel by Pearl Buck. Set during the Japanese
advance on China during the late 1930s, it contains ideas that the land sustains life and that suffering
is rewarded. This poem describes a family viewing the film, complete with the advertisements, and
their reaction (or rather, lack of) to it. They never actually see the end as the father trips over the cord
in the darkened room.
It is a very satirical poem that creates black humour. Through the characters complete insensitivity and
absence of either empathy or sympathy, Dawe expresses amazement at the complacency of people in
our society. There is continual tension between the humour and the seriousness of what is described.
For instance, Uncle Billy s sight problems are comical but Dawe s biting satire is evident by its
juxtaposition to the riot scene s

Films represent groups to differ from one another due to their physical characteristics. This is
especially true in Clint Eastwood s f2008 film Gran Torino. The film follows the changing attitudes of

only surface deep. Walt s friendship with his neighbours evolves into a need to save them from the
Hmong gangs who harass them, and in doing so, find his own salvation. The characterisation of Walt
challenges the stereotypical representation of both the elderly, and war heroes. The representation of
the Hmong also challenges dominant attitudes towards this group of people, revealing them to be very
similar in values to Walt himself. The way that

ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS Using cross country data, I examine how foreign aid affects economic
growth in developing countries over the period from 1975 to 2000. I find evidence that foreign aid
significantly and negatively correlates with growth in developing countries. However, foreign aid to
inland countries as well as to South Asian countries during the period of 1992 2000 is found to have a
positive impact on growth. In addition, a strong divergence trend is found among countries in the data

Literature Review In general, aid is found to have a positive impact on economic growth through
several mechanisms (i) aid increases investment (ii) aid increases the capacity to import capital goods
or technology (iii) aid does not have an adverse impact on investment and savings (iv) aid increases
the capital productivity and promotes endogenous technical change (Morrissey, 2001). Papanek

the1960s, treating foreign aid, foreign investment, other flows and domestic savings as explanatory
variables, finds that foreign aid has a substantially greater effect on growth than the other variables.
He explains that aid, unlike domestic savings, can fill the foreign exchange gap as well as the savings
gap. Unlike foreign private investment and other foreign inflows, aid is supposed to be specifically

The dome of the rock was completed in a decade in which Muslims lost control of Hijaz and also

The Books Of 1 And 2 Kings
This paper is an analysis of the books of 1 and 2 Kings. It will examine their authorship, structure,
flow, and themes. In addition, it will compare their content to the writings of 1 2 Chronicles, Isaiah,
and extra biblical writers who speak of the same events. Lastly, it will examine the author s place in
history as a historian and theologian. AUTHORSHIP Since writer or writers of Kings did not include
their name on the document, their identity is unknown. The rabbis in the Midrash Baba Bathra 15a
attributed the authorship to the prophet Jeremiah on the basis that 2 Kings 24:18 25:30 was identical to
Jeremiah 52. Traditionally, Christian scholars accepted this explanation without much qualm.
However, in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, scholars took the view that
someone edited Kings from already existing works. Since the theme of following the Law of Moses
recorded in the book of Deuteronomy runs throughout Genesis 2 Kings, most scholars title the person
or persons who did the writing and editing of these books the Deuteronomist. This paper will refer to
the writer of 1 2 Kings as the Deuteronomist in keeping with scholastic tradition. Some scholars
believe the Deuteronomist wrote during or after the Babylonian exile. A writing of the end of 2 Kings
during the beginning of the exile is plausible but not later than the start of the exile. A comparison of 1
2 Kings and Chronicles proves this theory. Chronicles was written after the

The Age Of Humanism In The Last Supper By Leonardo Da Vinci
The Renaissance, a period of cultural and artistic change in Europe from the fourteenth to the
seventeenth century often known as the Age of Humanism, began in Italy where the culture was
surrounded by the remnants of a once glorious empire. The Italians rediscovered art, architecture,
writings, philosophy, of ancient Romans and Greeks, and began to realize the relics as a golden age in
which it inspired their society at that period of time.
Artists were granted with greater flexibility in what they were to produce, and they took advantage of
it by exploring new techniques. Painters would study light and shadow and make the painting real and

Now that modernists have pushed all boundaries there are to push, I feel that we owe it to the
Renaissance as it is the most defining art movement in art history. Because no artistic movement has
contributed to the development of art as much as the Renaissance. Before the Renaissance, paintings

Girl In The Blue Coat Summary
The story Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse takes place in a German invaded Amsterdam in
1943. Hanneke Bakker is a black market worker who seeks for wanted items like food, lotion, lipstick,
cigarettes, kerosene, and other items that are hard to get during that time for her clients. Hanneke
Bakker has been struggling with the death of her love, Bas, who dies in the war fighting for the Dutch
army. Once the German had invaded they began to put strict rules on the Jewish population. When she
was dropping off an item for Mrs. Janssen, one of her clients, she asked Hanneke to find a Jewish
teenage girl named Mirjam, who disappeared from the secret room she was hiding her in. Mrs. Janssen
s most important physical attribute from Mirjam s description was that she was dressed in a blue coat.
Hanneke hesitates because it was too dangerous to help out a Jewish person during that time but
eventually accepts to help Mrs. Jansen find Mirijam. With the help of Ollie, who is in the resistance
and is Hanneke s dead boyfriend s brother, he tries to find out where Mirijam has gone. Hanneke
discovers disturbing events that have happened to the Jewish people who were captured and where
they were taken. When they discovered Mirijam was taken to the Schouwburg, a place for captured
Jewish people waiting to be deported to camps, Hanneke and Ollie went on a mission to retrieve her.
Hanneke discovers a very important truth about the girl in the blue coat, it wasn t Mirjam.
Review:
Girl in a Blue Coat by Monica Hesse is an incredible fictional story written during real historical
events. What made the book interesting was that the author made the blue coat as a huge part of the
story, because that was the only noticeable information Hanneke had gotten about the Jewish girl. It
was fascinating to read about how some characters represented real life people that worked together
and tried to overthrow the German Regime. Monica Hesse laid out the themes of love, loss,
friendship, hope, and acceptance very well through the events that happen in the story. Hanneke
Bakker also grows as a character because she goes from having a strict business relationship with her
client to risking her life for them. Hanneke makes a very courageous

This initial step also includes the gradual withdrawal of cultural practices, as indigenous people may

This phase can become dangerous as it further invokes a division between the indigenous society and
the non indigenous society. The lasting of the mourning phase cannot be generalised as it is different
for every individual, as the effect of the tragedy can effect individuals differently, as there was a great
deal of inhumane suffering on the indigenous society. Furthermore the phase that is considered the
most crucial is the dreaming phase. The dreaming phase includes the imagining of a decolonised
future, these can be expressed through debate or consultation. Within this phase the colonisers are able

Spices And Its Effect On Food
Introduction
Spices, have been around for thousands of years. Spices would be used in food to flavor it, giving it
tastes like spicy or sour. The spices back then would be cherished as tradeable goods to other countries
for a trade of currency, but soon the early cultures found out that the spices they were trading could be
used to prevent food spoilage. As an antimicrobial, many spices could be helpful to get rid of the
bacteria that can be found on food, or to preserve the food as well. Bacteria can spread from
anywhere, through the air, from the ground, and even from a person s hands right when food is about
to be eaten. There are many spices used to preserve food like onions, cinnamon, cloves, mustard,
rosemary, sage, and black peppers. These kinds of spices are classified as either strong, medium, or
weak because of their inhibitory effect that they have with bacteria. (Documents/Spices) Cinnamon is
one of these spices with these strong inhibitory effects. Cinnamon refers to the dried bark of different
types of beverages and chocolates it can be made into. Cinnamon would be used not only for food, but
also used when making cosmetics. Not only can cinnamon be used for food, but as a health promoting
agent, to treat inflammation, stomachaches, and urinary infections. (ncbi.nih.gov) Researchers have
found that cinnamon can be used as an antimicrobial factor to get reduce growth bacteria.
(ncbi.nih.gov) Researchers soon studied that cinnamon was one of the strongest and

Crime And The Quality Of Life
Introduction
For better or worse, there is a link between crime and society. Society is strongly affected by crime
due to the cost and the decline in the quality of life that citizens face as a result of criminal activity.
Since there is a relationship associated with crime and the quality of life, then reducing crime is one of
the top priorities of a police department. However, reducing crime is a major challenge for any police
department around the world. Staffing shortages are one of the biggest challenges facing police
departments while attempting to reduce crime. Many agencies across the United States are having
trouble recruiting new police officers and keeping experienced, seasoned officers on the police force.
Staffing shortages are due to low pay, a cut in benefits, and the national anti police sentiment being
broadcasted across many news organizations daily. The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in
2015 publicly released that there was an average of 2.3 officers per 1,000 inhabitants within cities that
had more than 10,000 residents (The Federal Bureau of Investigation s 2015). An average of 2.3
officers per 1,000 residents is not enough to deter or prevent crime. In a preliminary report for 2015
crime stats, the FBI noted, there is an overall increase in violent crimes. Based on data provided by
12,879 law enforcement agencies throughout the United States, murders have increased 6.2 percent
and aggravated assaults have increased 2.3 percent since

As professional nurses, it is our duty to demonstrate improved safety for our patients, visitors and guests to the facilities in which we serve. It is also our duty to prevent adverse events and to view unfortunate incidents as learning opportunities to achieve a holistic view of patient care. By improving patient safety, we accept responsibility for more positive patient outcomes and a successful hospital stay. • 6. Cognitive Strategies And The Risk Of Emotional Contagion This study investigates different cognitive strategies in which people can reduce the risk of emotional contagion. Schoenewolf (1990, cited in Barsade, 2002, pp. 4) defined emotional contagion as a process in which a person or group influences the emotions or behaviour of another person or group through the conscious or unconscious induction of emotion states and behavioural attitude . This description has been further supported by Hatfield, Cacioppo, Rapson (1992, pp. 153 154) who stated that emotional contagion is when one unconsciously imitates the characteristics of another person, therefore allowing oneself to feel and to be influenced by these emotions. Current Study This research aims to establish what strategy is most efficient in restricting the passing of emotions between people. Participants, referred to as therapists in this study, listened to clients describing a positive or negative situation. Self reports and facial affect were used as a means of measurement. Participation engagement was also taken into consideration. Two cognitive strategies most relevant to reducing emotional contagion identified by Gross and Thomson (2007) are; 1. Attentional deployment, where one pays greater attention to particular features in an occurring situation. The attentional deployment strategies for this study are; empathic imagery, where one must mentally place themselves in the situation. Dissociation is the second attentional deployment strategy. • 7. Differences Between Greek Theatre And Theatre Opera and theater share many similarities especially since the former is influenced by the latter. In his text, A Short History of Opera, Donald Grout defines opera as a drama in music: a dramatic action, exhibited on stage with scenery by actors in costume, the words conveyed entirely or for the most part by singing, and the whole sustained and amplified by orchestral music (4). Opera literally translates to work. The first known opera that was performed was in 1597. However, interestingly enough, the word opera was not used until 1634 (Grout 1). The origins of seventeenth century opera can be traced back to Greek drama and medieval theatre. Throughout the seventeenth century, many different kinds of operas can be found from countries such as Italy, Germany, and England. In order to fully understand opera and its inner workings, it is important to locate and learn the origin of opera. Greek drama is said to be the model on which the creators of modern opera at the end of the sixteenth century based their work on (Grout 11). There are substantial differences between Greek drama and opera. For example, in Greek theater, the cast was made up of only men and young boys (Grout 13). Also, it is important to note that these plays were not sung entirely. Rather, many parts were spoken out loud like the singing was left to the chorus (Grout 12). The chorus s main function was to express opinions or give advice. They also conveyed emotions for the audience to react to (Grout 12). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the purpose of this paper, we will take an in depth look at three of these such market structures. Monopoly and Monopolistic competitive market along with Oligopoly. We will look at how and why these markets exist in conjunction with the advantages to the producer and the disadvantages to the consumer. As we research Monopoly in detail, compare the monopolistic competitive market and Oligopoly, we will also discuss the Gas market in relation to these types of markets. To begin to understand monopolies, we have researched several things. Why do they exist? What do they do, in response to the economy? Although, we don t see many monopolies now due to antitrust laws to prevent monopolies from forming, there are natural monopolies. There are several reasons why monopolies exist. These are known as barriers to entry. Scarce resources with one producer can limit the number of other firms joining the market as competition. Increasing returns to scale prevents smaller firms from entering an industry because as output rises average total cost falls. This in turn enables these producers to grow and tolerate the monopoly. This is now where a natural monopoly is formed. A single producer of an industry has a large cost advantage over other smaller firms, if they existed in the industry. A natural monopoly includes local water, gas and electricity providers. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Folds in the stomach allow for the stomach to expand as the stomach fills. The stomach excretes hydrochloric acid and other enzymes which allow for the break down of the bolus, as well as mucus to help protect the lining of the stomach walls against the stomach acid. Protein digestion begins in the stomach, where stomach acid of pH of 1 disrupts protein structure which allows for proteolytic enzymes, also known as proteases, to reduce large proteins to polypeptides (Human Anatomy). Stomach acid has numerous jobs in the breaking down of the bolus such as; rendering minerals more soluble, maintains acidity, killing microbes and converts inactive digestive enzymes to their active form. The muscle contractions in the stomach causes the bolus to turn into chyme, a food mixture with a watery like texture. William Shakespeare s Henry IV is a one of his many plays that deal with the varying ideas of honor, as well as issues of courage, loyalty, and ambition, interposing examples of dishonor, weakness, and the deceitful plots among both the drunkards and noblemen. (Acts 7) The Tabernacle and the Temple Christians argue that even the Tabernacle of Moses and the Temple of Solomon testify about Christ. The author of the book of Hebrews tells us why God s patterns for the Tabernacle were so precise and specific: Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us (Hebrews 9:23 24). The Tabernacle is a partial reflection of heaven. Evangelist and author, Theodore Epp, illustrates in his book, Portraits of Christ in the Tabernacle, that every single item and area in the Tabernacle foreshadowed Christian truths. He bases several connections on the structure of the temple. The open Outer Court, the semi restricted Holy Place, and the exclusive Holy of Holies are compared to man s body, soul, and spirit; Jesus claim to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life; and the system by which one comes to approach God. (10 21) One should consider God s intent for the Tabernacle in the first place: Let them construct a sanctuary for Me, that I may dwell among them (Exodus 25:8) The purpose of the Tabernacle was so that God may have a place to dwell among His people. Role Of A Human Resource Department Role and Function of a Human Resource Department Human resources (HR) are so much more than the traditional view of an administrative function within the organization. If properly developed and initiated HR can become a strong, strategic business partner. This paper looks at the purpose and role of human resources as a strategic partner as well as its impact on the responsibilities of an HR department. Purpose and Role As businesses evolve and grow so do the purpose and role of an HR department. Once traditionally thought of only as an administrative department, HR has grown to become a vital part in any strategic organization. The traditional role for HR professionals focuses on recruitment, selection, salary, benefits, training, evaluation, rewards, and discipline. In many organizations, executives feel that their managers can do the work eliminating the need for HR. Human resources can be applied to any activity within the organization (Nica, 2013). HR professionals focus on finding the appropriate balance of workforce supply and how efficient and productive the workforce is. Employees are now being recognized as a vital asset to an organization s success and have extended the strategic role of a HR department (Anca Ramona, 2013). Technology applications in each of these industries have included drones, controls, power trains, fuel sources, material, etc. In this report we will discuss the similarities and differences with regard to design for Automotive and Aviation systems in some of the technology areas of concern. FUELS AND ENGINES Automotive The cars of the street are powered by gasoline, or as some may know it petroleum. Some heavier vehicles run on diesel and its domestic variants. The following are some of the properties of these dominating fuels. 1) Petrol/Gasoline: This is primarily a clear fuel that is derived from petroleum that is used primarily as a fuel in internal combustion engines. It consists mostly of organic compounds obtained by the fractional distillation of petroleum, enhanced with a variety of additives. 2) Diesel: This is liquid fuel used in diesel engines, whose fuel ignition takes place, without any spark, as a result of compression of the inlet air mixture and then injection of fuel. There are majorly 3 types of diesels crude/petroleum derived, synthetic, and biomass derived diesel. All three forms however hold the similar properties. 3) Ethanol E85 Flexible Fuel: Flexible Fuel Vehicles are designed to run on Gasoline and Ethanol Blended Gasoline. • 29. The Prince Of Tides By Pat Conroy The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy is a compelling narrative in which an ordinary southern South Carolina family, the Wingos, experience extraordinary circumstances deeply rooted in the canticles of childhood affliction. It is a narrative of survival; survival of familial bonds, mortality, and unaffected love when the Wingo parents, Lila and Henry Wingo, thoughtlessly wreak havoc on the fragile lives of their children: Tom, Luke, and Savannah Wingo. It is a story of sand dollars, marsh tides, shrimp, marsh hens, meandering boats through the salt marsh of Colleton, and everything the South Carolina sun imprints upon permanently. Most importantly, The Prince of Tides is the story of Tom Wingo, a white Southern male, who represses his past until he reconciles with the wreckage he abandons in the salt marshes and consequently, liberates himself from his internal affliction. Tom Wingo lives on Sullivans Island, South Carolina the sanctuary in which he neglects his past with his three daughters and his wife, Sallie; however, their family dynamics do not replicate those of the archetypal Southern family. For one, Tom takes care of the domestic affairs while Sallie brings home the money as she divulges into the disciplined study of medicine. In the 1980s, the domestic Southern Belle and hard working, sexist, racist male were prevalent in the distinct culture of the South (Conlee 4). Some people such as Douglas Gentile who is a Developmental psychologist believe that video games cause real life violence and children acting out in violent ways. For example, in 2006, an 18 year old named Devin Moore was arrested in Alabama on suspicion of car theft and then attacked a police officer, stole his gun, shot two officers, and fled in the police car (Layton). He had no criminal history but it has been said that he played a lot of Grand Theft Auto prior to the killings, which could have led him to do what he did. Dawe is concerned that we have become desensitised to human suffering because it is presented to us as entertainment: a product rather than an issue. The irony is that we have become emotionally distanced from reality even though the world enters our homes via television. The title and the film description are references to The Good Earth based on a novel by Pearl Buck. Set during the Japanese advance on China during the late 1930s, it contains ideas that the land sustains life and that suffering is rewarded. This poem describes a family viewing the film, complete with the advertisements, and their reaction (or rather, lack of) to it. They never actually see the end as the father trips over the cord in the darkened room. It is a very satirical poem that creates black humour. In addition, it will compare their content to the writings of 1 2 Chronicles, Isaiah, and extra biblical writers who speak of the same events. Lastly, it will examine the author s place in history as a historian and theologian. AUTHORSHIP Since writer or writers of Kings did not include their name on the document, their identity is unknown. The rabbis in the Midrash Baba Bathra 15a attributed the authorship to the prophet Jeremiah on the basis that 2 Kings 24:18 25:30 was identical to Jeremiah 52. Traditionally, Christian scholars accepted this explanation without much qualm. However, in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, scholars took the view that someone edited Kings from already existing works. Since the theme of following the Law of Moses recorded in the book of Deuteronomy runs throughout Genesis 2 Kings, most scholars title the person or persons who did the writing and editing of these books the Deuteronomist. This paper will refer to the writer of 1 2 Kings as the Deuteronomist in keeping with scholastic tradition. Some scholars believe the Deuteronomist wrote during or after the Babylonian exile. A writing of the end of 2 Kings during the beginning of the exile is plausible but not later than the start of the exile. A comparison of 1 2 Kings and Chronicles proves this theory.
