Examples Of Irony In The Convergence Of The Twain
In Thomas Hardy s poem, The Convergence of the Twain , the speaker displays a peaceful and
nonviolent interpretation towards the tragedy of the sinking of the grand ship known as the Titanic. By
using immense amounts of irony, personification, and irony, Hardy is able to strengthen his claim that
sinking of the Titanic was destined to occur due to both vanity of humans and mother nature. The first
section of The Convergence of the Twain illustrates how humans are the cause of the sinking of the
ship. The section also describes how the ship is free from human vanity and how it finally gets to be at
peace. Instead of viewing this event as a tragedy, it is viewed in a positive way with a more peaceful
and tranquil ending. In lines 2 and 3, Deep from human vanity, And the Pride of Life that planned her,
stilly couches she , it explains how as a result of the ship being at the ocean floor, she is away from
human corruption. Due to humans believing that they could create such a ship that could defy the laws
of nature, becoming unsinkable, they didn t take any precautions into consideration causing her to be
at peace on the ocean floor. In lines 3 through 5, Steel chambers, late the pyres Of her salamandrine
fires, Cold currents thrid, and turn to rhythmic tidal lyres , explains that the ship goes through a
transition in which the engines of the ship being as bright as a salamandrine fires to cold currents
turning into rhythmic tidal lyres. The idea of salamandrine

Difference Between Rich And Poor
The Gap Between the Rich and the Poor
Each year, thousands of people all over the world come to the U.S. to chase a better life with beautiful
houses, luxury cars and dream jobs, because they think America is the land of opportunities. However,
inside this country, there are a lot of problems which lead to inequality, and one of them is a growing
gap between the rich and poor people. The problem with rising inequality is a person like me who
earns 1000 times as much as the typical American, Nick Hanauer, a venture capitalist explains on the
film Inequality For All. If a normal person earns $10 an hour, a rich person can earn $10,000 an hour.
Following economists and social scientists, the three primary reasons which lead to this gap are the
taxes that the rich and poor pay, lack of education, and the increase of unemployment.
Firstly, when we talk about the difference between the rich and poor, we must discuss paying taxes.
On the report of Robert Reich, the former secretary labor, in Inequality For All, in 1978, the middle
class and the working class earned over $48,000 per year and the upper class earned over $393,000.
However, in 2010, this income gap rose significantly. Meanwhile, the income of the top 1% increased
dramatically to over one million a year. The working class only earns around $33,000 a year. In this
film, Robert Reich also says that Today the richest 400 Americans have more wealth than the bottom
150 million of us put together. That means the assets

Tablets are becoming a big hit in the industry nowadays. A tablet pc is a device that is like a hand held
computer. Tablets have a touch screen function or a pen enabled interface. Tablet application also
entertains the users like playing games, photography, video taking, music and many more. Because the
tablet has many functions, it would be a great help in school and at work. This device will act as a
substitute to the required needs of a student in school. Tables application that are related to the school

use of paper with causes the cutting down of trees. Using applications like these for school help the
user to organize their files. According to a survey The Tablet PC group had a stronger belief that
technologies tools help improve the quality of their work. (Neal Davidson, 2009). Because of the
change of technology, the quality of the project that a person can do increases due to performance of

First question at 10:47 was, how did it feel to spend time with your grandma? This was in response to
her disclosing a new living situation with her grandma, in which she was snowed in at her house and
spent the time watching television with her grandma. Intent for this open question was to bring
awareness to the feelings associated with this new experience of hers. The client seemed to not want to
go too far into how it felt because she does not have a close relationship with her grandmother. Second
question was at 15:05. This was how does it feel to get a little bit of that worry off your plate?
Rationale for this was to bring awareness to the relief she felt for finding a place to live. I did not ask

A Paradigm For Multiple Input Multiple Output ( Mimo )...
Abstract A paradigm for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel modeling demands diversity
technique to compensate the effects of fading and shadowing. In this paper, error performance of
MIMO system is analyzed with orthogonal space time block code (OSTBC) and maximal ratio
combining (MRC) techniques over Weibull gamma (WG) fading channel. WG distribution forms a
composite channel model which is used to determine the effects of multipath as well as shadowing.
Closed form expressions for symbol error rate (SER) are computed for MIMO systems using OSTBC
and MRC in this scenario. Consequently, the effects of fading severity by varying shape parameters
are also shown by simulation and analytical results. Keywords Multiple input multiple output
(MIMO), orthogonal space time block code (OSTBC), maximal ratio combining (MRC), Weibull
gamma (WG) fading, symbol error rate (SER). Introduction In the present wireless systems, the
demand of proliferation of bandwidth for high data rate and reliable communication requirement is
increasing. Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems are investigated to achieve these
requirements. Also, diversity techniques are recommended to increase the reliability of system.
Orthogonal space time block codes (OSTBCs) are employed in MIMO systems to achieve the full
transmit diversity while allowing a simple maximum likelihood decoding algorithm. This algorithm is
based on linear processing of received signals [1 2]. MIMO system uses

Rational And Rational Choice Theory
Rational choice theory posits that any individual makes behavioral choices because they logically
consider any potentially criminal situation, weigh the possible benefits versus the possible costs, and
make a decision to act based on whether or not the benefits outweigh the risks. Rational choice theory
differs from other philosophies in that it denies the existence of any kinds of action other than the
purely rational and calculative. All social action, it is argued, can be seen as rationally motivated, as
instrumental action, however much it may appear to be irrational or non rational (Scott, 2000).
Making rational choices means being motivated by personal wants, goals, and needs. It is not possible
for all wants and needs to be met or achieved; therefore, choices are made in order to bring the
greatest satisfaction and happiness to the individual. Individual does not always reference one human
being; rational choice theory is a main idea in economics, sociology, and many other social sciences.
An individual with regard to the theory can be a corporation, group, or other defined entity that
engages in decision making. The limitations of this theory have led researchers to develop many sub
theories. One sub theory of rational choice is routine activity theory, which posits that crime is not an
aberration of human society, but merely a common facet of culture that only requires opportunity. First
developed and published by Marcus Felson and Lawrence E. Cohen in 1979,

The Impact Of Early Sports On Sports
Early specialization in a single sport has become increasingly popular. Early sports specialization can
be defined as year round training in a specific sport with the exclusion of other sports at a young age.
Youth are influenced and often encouraged to participate in one specific sport, with the hopes of
increasing their chances of being successful in that sport. With the money in college and professional
sports increasing the need to train children to compete at a high level has increased. Young athletes
often practice or play their specific sport throughout a large majority of the year. In some soccer
academies, sports specialization training can begin as early as kindergarten age. The training last
throughout the year academic school year, with tournaments during the summer months. The day to
day training may last several hours each day.
Some in the sports community find sports specialization to reflect a highly developed society and see
the skill acquisition and enhancement as beneficial to success in each sport; Being labeled as gifted,
the potential for a collegiate athletic scholarship; or making a varsity, elite, or even professional level
team. Hecimovich, M. (2004). There are numerous benefits of early sports specialization due to the
amount of practice of the sport specific skill. Early specificity enhances motor skills and increases
body awareness. The more time you spend practicing proper mechanics, the better you are going to be
at that specific sport.

Harrison Chorgeron, And Harrison Bergeron And By The...
Imagine being stuck in the future, but not the future everyone normally thinks about, full of new
technology and knowledge. This future is different, but not a good different. In Harrison Bergeron by
Kurt Vonnegut Jr., equality is the main issue and no one can get rid of it. In By the Waters Of Babylon
by Stephen Vincent Benet, technology and knowledge ruined the world so awful that the only people
left totally forgot about technology, even the simple pieces of technology like a sink. Even though
Harrison Bergeron and By the Waters of Babylon are two completely different stories, the futures of
them both end up being boring and depressing. They both also give warnings about the future. In
Harrison Bergeron, it is about how being equal and having total equality throughout a country can
totally ruin a it and in By the Waters of Babylon, it is about how the knowledge of ourselves can ruin
not only a city or state, but the whole world. In Harrison Bergeron and By the Waters of Babylon, the
future in both stories are gloomy and depressing. First, in Harrison Bergeron, Vonnegut Jr. talks about
how America would be like if everyone was equal. But not just equal rights, actually equal, like equal
strength, beauty, and intelligence. The leader, the Handicapper General, put handicaps on everyone
above average like weights, masks, and even ear buzzers. George and Hazel were the parents of
Harrison but Hazel was average and George was above average. Because George was

Persuasive Essay On Homelessness
Every morning when I wake up, I ask myself, Who are we as human beings if we ignore the suffering
of others? . My response to myself is always the same, We would be lost souls tormented by our
selfishness . Which is why I take advantage of every opportunity that is giving to me to help others. I
think we tend to forget that even the smallest gesture or helping hand, can make a huge difference in
someone s life. Take the expanding issues of homelessness and poverty for instance. At least once a
day, we witness an individual or a family experiencing homelessness. In America alone, there are
approximately 643,067 people experiencing homelessness. The statistics vary from state to state.
Approximately 33,466 of those individuals live in the state of Florida. The city Orlando, resides 2,074
out of the 33,466 individuals.
Although all these individuals are experiencing homelessness, not everyone shares a common cause
for their homelessness. There are three types of homelessness each having a different cause and issue.
The three types are chronic, transitional, and episodic. Chronic homelessness is the least common
homelessness, but it consists of those who are homeless for a longer amount of time, usually being
elderly or injured individuals. Transitional homelessness is when people stay at a shelter for a short
period of time due a catastrophic event or forced to go for a short period of time. It is also considered
to be the most common type of homelessness. Lastly, episodic

Orientalism Is Defined As A Way Of Viewing Eastern Cultures
Orientalism is defined as a way of viewing Eastern cultures in contrast to European and more Western
cultures. Orientalism often leads to a distorted view of these cultures, often depicting the people as
overly exotic, mysterious, or amoral. Such is the case with Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra. This
play was written during a time when Shakespeare was turning his attention away from claustrophobic
city life and focusing more on the world. He moves the setting of his play from Europe to Egypt, more
specifically Alexandria, the city in which Cleopatra resides. While other locations are used in the play,
the focus seems to be on Egypt and the culture there.
Just like the Europeans of Shakespeare s time, the Romans in the play viewed Cleopatra and the race
of people she represented as mysterious and were curious about them, yet were wary at the same time.
There was a combination of both xenophobia and xenophilia among the people of Europe, and these
mixed emotions are detailed in the contrast between the Roman s view of Cleopatra and the way she
actually behaves during the play. There is a difference between the Egyptian culture in the minds of
the Romans within the play and the culture that is actually depicted in the play, but there is a clear
influence of the European views of the Egyptian lifestyle in Shakespeare s work. Despite this
influence however, Cleopatra proves the stereotypes wrong by being more Roman than Mark Antony.
The Romans put a strong emphasis on

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bio-Materials
BIO MATERIALS Bio materials are materials that are employed for biological purposes. They come
under the category of ADVANCED MATERIALS i.e. materials that have high tech applications.
According to the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), a bio material is one
which is exploited in contact with living tissues, organisms, and/or micro organisms. Bio materials are
not a separate class of materials. Rather, they are common materials naturally occurring or
synthetically manufactured that are deemed suitable for use in living organisms in general and humans
in particular. Polymers, metals and ceramics are all examples of common biomaterials that are used in
day to day medical procedures without complications. Sometimes, naturally occurring proteins such as
collagen are also used as bio materials with slight modifications, if required. Bio materials have lots of

Set In The Antebellum South, Mark Twain’S Adventures Of
Set in the Antebellum South, Mark Twain s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn documents a landscape
that differs greatly from the poised and picturesque scene associated with the contemporary South.
Today s South is synonymous with with ice cold pitchers of tea, ceaseless etiquette exuded on
wraparound porches, and seemingly romantic drawls. However, the South that Huck resides in, tells a
different story. Specifically, his South is a place where suitable behavior is associated with the
acceptance of slavery, and racist slurs pepper every sentence. As a result, any deviation from these
behaviors leaves an individual ironically branded with a connotation of being uncivilized. Due to this
distorted view of ethics, any character with even a shred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This occurrence exhibits Huck s lack of moral fiber, and serves as an excellent basis for him to
develop an experience of human goodness (Nichols).
As evidenced in the introductory instances regarding death, Huck s morality is defective and his
sympathy is missing. Perhaps, Huck s flaws are due to his close contact with the iconic delinquent
Tom Sawyer, who is likely corroding Huck s ethics. Consequently, when Huck bonds with his new
partner in crime, Jim, a stark juxtaposition is evidenced between the ideals of Tom and Jim. However,
luckily youth is a time of greater potential for change than any other stage of life , and Jim s positive
influence proves beneficial (Trites 53) . Specifically, Jim is extraordinarily superstitious and attaches a
copious amount of meaning to just about everything, even a measly snake skin (Twain 162). Of
course, this means that Jim does not completely disregard the significance of death and importance of
sympathy, as Tom and his mischievous mates do. Consequently, Jim has proven himself as a morally
admirable figure (Bollinger). As a result, after prolonged exposure to Jim, Huck starts to exude more
concern for the life of others, as evidenced in quite a few scenarios that take place on his and Jim s
journey.
One example occurs within the thirteenth chapter of the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, when Huck
is aboard a sinking

What to Do with Howard

What Do We Do with Howard?
Agrigreen, Inc. has done a lot of moving employees from one position to another. Either someone
chose to retire or step down, or they were promoted or transferred. Howard is a guy who obviously
does not see himself the way others may see him. They simply have different perceptions. Howards
seems like a man who tried his very best at one point. His best performance may not be equal to
another persons best performance. He was often teased due to the perception of having no work ethic.

Howard Lineberry, Lead Surveyor
Lineberry had some education. The education that he had received was not enough to demonstrate
efficient and effective work at Agrigreen. He did well enough with his first supervisor to accomplish
the mission. Howard seems to be a man who needed direction and guidance. Without the proper
guidance, he was close to lost. As I compared his actions with his first supervisor to his actions with
his second supervisor I realized that there seemed to be a lack of performance satisfaction. This
dissatisfaction occurred as Howard was expected to do the work on his own. He had little to no
guidance in getting the tasks done. Although he perceived that his first boss was a tough one, Howard
got along well with him. He appreciated the guidance and direction that was given. This was a form of
daily training. He made an honest attempt to do well on his own, but maybe his way of doing things
were just different. Howard didn t fit into this organizational culture. I will not say that Howard did
not have any values but I will venture to say that he did not share the same values and beliefs that
many of the other workers shared. The leaders and other employees were paying attention to work
ethic and competence. If Howard is a worker worth keeping, then behavior modification would help.

The Causes Of The Cuban Revolution
The Cuban Revolution in 1953 was an armed revolt against the right wing administration of Fulgencio
Batista which was led by Fidel Castro and his 26th of July Movement. The revolution would continue
until 1959 when the revolutionaries overthrew Batista and replace his government with a socialist
state . There are many different reasons for the cause of this revolution which can be traced back to
Cuba s relationship with the United States. Che Guevara s speech and the Platt Amendment are two
primary sources that provide insight of the United States effect on the Cuban Revolution (Keen and
Haynes 2013, 401).
On January 29, 1959, Che Guevara delivered the speech named, The Social Ideals of the Rebel Army.
Che Guevara met Fidel and Raul castro in Mexico City during the year of 1955. He joined the July 26
movement which was named after the attack of Moncada army barracks led by Fidel Castro. This
attacked sparked a rebellion against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. Che would soon become the
second in command of the historical Cuba revolution (Keen and Haynes 2013, 401). The speech he
gave was sponsored by a cultural organization named Nuestro TIempo at a ceremony in Havana. He
begins by giving praise to Jose Marti who was a symbol of Cuba s independence against Spain in the
19th century. Che claims that the revolution s goals are derived from Marti s dream of Cuban
independence. Jose Marti led a revolution to break free from Spain s control which is similar to what
the revolutaries during this time want as they want to eliminate the dictatorship that is controlling
Cuba. In his speech, Che claims the way to accomplish this goal is by forming a coup as Barista did to
get into power. However, Basita also had the support of the United States which provides insight into
the relationship between the U.S and Cuba (Guevara, 1959). In 1952, Batista along with help from the
United States overthrew the Prio presidency due to corruption and violence that shadowed his
administration. Che acknowledges United States support of Batista as he states, Batista has given
hundred concessions to the United States and we must give them a hundred and one (Guevara, 1959).

The Three Goddesses In The Trojan War
The Trojan War was ultimately caused by a petty conflict between three Goddesses Aphrodite, Pallas
Athena, and Hera. While attending a party they discovered a golden apple with the words for the
fairest carved in it. They all believed themselves to be the fairest, so to determine who would get the
apple they needed a judge. Their first choice was Zeus, but he wisely declined, and instead, pointed
them in the direction of Mount. Ida near Troy, where Prince Paris an excellent judge of beauty was
doing shepherd s work. The three went to Paris, but instead of having him look at them to choose the
prettiest, they all offered him a bribe and told him to choose the Goddess who offered the best thing
(248). Hera promised to make him an Emperor of Europe and Asia. Athena said that he would lead the
Trojans to victory against the Greeks. Aphrodite promised him the love of the fairest mortal on Earth.
Although it was not an easy decision for him, Paris chose love and gave the golden apple to
Aphrodite. This decision is what is said to be the cause of the long and famous Trojan War (249).

Domestic and External International Factors on African...
Domestic and External Factors on African Macroeconomic Formulation Introduction Growth,
productivity and employment are the most common economic variables to reduce extreme poverty and
break poverty trap. Report from World Bank in 2007 revealed that one percent in GDP growth results
to 1.3% poverty decline in low income countries. Moreover, development in the productive capacity
leads to reduction in sustainable poverty. With improvement in the economic growth, many people
have been removed from poverty during the past few decades in many developing countries. However,
poverty continues to be worsening in the 33% of the world s least developing African countries.
(African Economic Research Consortium 2008). While there are many factors influencing growth,
management of macroeconomic is very crucial to economic growth. Appropriate macroeconomic
policies are critical for wealth creation, sustainable economic expansion and employment generating
investment. Recent improvement in the economic performances of some African countries was
underpinned by the improvement in macroeconomic management. However, inefficient
macroeconomic policies are the features of many African countries leading to the substantial growth
disparities in the African continent. The role of productivity in accelerating growth within an economy

Three Different Types Of Teachers
What is a teacher? A teacher is someone who provides education for students, someone who delivers a
message for the future generation and someone who is willing to strive to help students expand their
knowledge. However, not all teachers are the same. The fact that each teacher has her own personality,
style and interaction with students makes the teachers come in three different types. The first type of
teachers, the strict teacher, is always undesirable with the students. The strict teacher has an
unpleasant face. She ll walk into the class without a smile on her face neither a salute. Usually
teachers would wait for students to come after class begins, she doesn t. The strict teacher would let a

make learning interesting as well as creative. The friendly teacher would let you go to restrooms once
during the class. After having the break, she ll let you eat something if you didn t have the time to. The
friendly teacher would give you an assignment for each week, to get enough time to do it. She is the
right person to consult your problems with. For instance, if you got a problem outside the class in any
particular area of study she will be very helpful. Moreover, she is considered to be a good listener, she
will find the right solution for any problem you have. The friendly teacher would let you know about
each quiz you re having before getting it, so you have the right time to study for it. Even though the

Hearts And Minds Documentary Analysis
The documentary Hearts and Minds was interesting and eye opening for me as it was the first in depth
visual of the Vietnam Era and of the war itself. After watching the movie, and thinking about it
without the initial emotional impact, I realized a few things that the director was trying to prove to the
audience. Generally, I thought that the film was biased towards one side. It showed almost no pro war
people except the POW and a few politicians. However, the framing the director used made them look
like fanatics or cold hearted racists. Granted, the human pain they showed on both sides was real and
could not have been exaggerated. It was eye opening to see just how wrong the U.S. was to enter into
Vietnam. The documentary made it seem like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The blatant disregard for non American life, the lack of knowledge in the country about what was

think the documentary could have gone either way with the American public at the time is was
released. I feel that if you saw the film with open eyes that it would have greatly disturbed anyone that
saw it. However, I also feel that there would be individuals who would refuse to believe that that was

a loved one and did not want to believe their death was in vain. This documentary was a good tool to
get across the needless violence that occurred during the war, however, the film was not very accurate
in the portrayal of every event that they filmed and then incorporated into the documentary. From the
little knowledge that I have of the Vietnam War, even I noticed discrepancies and moments when the
director did not fully explain the situation and left a wrong impression for the audience. Without

A Humean Critique of Descartes Essay
A Humean Critique of Descartes
Montreal has big potholes. Lots of them. If one is to truly understand the philosophy of Hume and
Descartes, one must understand what they would do with crummy roads as civil engineers in
Montreal. Hume would probably repave the roads based on the success of past designs and the results
of empirical data. Descartes, on the other hand, would probably leave nothing unscathed after
attacking the problem with reason, scrapping the existing roadmap and re building roads with new
foundations and new directions. This allegory underlines a central question of a Hume Descartes
comparison: if Hume s road to knowledge needs improvement, does Descartes know where to start or
where he is going? The following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes used relations of ideas as the foundation for his method for acquiring knowledge. Descartes
writes that disciplines which rely on composite things are doubtful, and arithmetic and geometry
contain something certain and indubitable (Descartes 61). For example, 2+3=5 is a relation of ideas
because 2+3 #8800;5 is a contradiction. The Discourse on Method constitutes a series of
demonstrative reasonings. For Descartes, knowledge is clarity and distinctness, and demonstrative,
mathematical reasoning pave the way toward this knowledge. Descartes thought that logical deduction
from first principles could uncover a whole series of truths about the world.
Hume rejects the use of relations of ideas to acquire knowledge and instead turns to accumulation of
data. Hume writes that demonstrative reasoning fails to uncover the relation which governs our
understanding of matter of fact: cause and effect. A priori reasoning which ignores experience cannot
draw any inference concerning real existence and matter of fact (Hume17). This is the central
proposition of the Inquiry: causes and effects are discoverable, not by reason, but by experience (17).
For Hume, empiricism paves the way to knowledge and custom, the codified accumulation of
knowledge, serves as the great guide of human life (28). Knowledge is simply a belief reinforced by
experience a far cry from the Cartesian certainty and clarity. The collection of

The Role Of Sterilization On The Individual
For many centuries, countries have used forced sterilization for various reasons for their cultures.
They have used this method of sterilization to help control their populations, help grow their
economies, and for their beliefs or laws within their countries. As for the United States, we have
depicted our country as the land of the free. Our nation was founded on the premise that all human
beings are created equal, stated Philip Roos, author of Psychological Impact of Sterilization on the
Individual, and possess inalienable rights (45). However, some people would disagree because of how
our country has changed since it has become a country. People do not have the freedom in which some
believe we should have. In addition, we have advanced beyond most other countries when it comes to
opportunities for our people.
According to the authors of Federally Funded Sterilization: Time to Rethink Policy, Sonya Borrero,
Nikki Zite, and Mitchell D. Creinin:
Female sterilization has been a popular method of contraception since the 1970 s. Despite the
relatively high utilization of sterilization in the United States, there is considerable evidence that there
is an unmet demand for the procedure among some segments of the United States population. In
particular, low income women may face significant system level barriers to obtaining a desired
sterilization procedure. (1822)
Forced sterilization no longer means just sterilization with the element of not being able to have

Society s Current Structure Of Masculinity
Society s current structure of masculinity is unforgiving in form. It cuts out other forms of masculinity,
it physically and mentally demanding, and its ill effects extend far beyond the men it infuses itself in.
Yet what would we do if we were given other options for masculinity, ones that allowed for unique
blends of attitudes and perceptions? Looking in to the lives of homeless men we can see the forced
strategies which create new masculine codes created for the adaption against patriarchal pressures.
They are made out of survival need to circumnavigate the painful mental and physical reality that is
only made worse by harsh masculine standards. Yet these new masculinities hold out a form of
hopefulness for society. They offer up new discussion to what it means to be a man, the potential for
change, and what we can expect from changes in male identity over time. Using what we learn from
the disadvantaged, we can hope to improve the lives of people, although the process will take time,
effort, and careful mediation. Timothy Nonn s Hitting Bottom: Homelessness, Poverty, and
Masculinity touches on the complicated issues homeless men face, especially in terms of adapting to
pressures of hegemonic masculinity. The mental and physical stress of homelessness for men stems
from a denial of identity due to the rigid construction of maleness. Homeless men lose their
connection to the same power other men come to expect, they lose their place in society, and because

Symbolism In Stephanie Myer s The Host
The Host is a novel written by Stephanie Myer that uses symbolism, theme, and character foils to
capture the reader s attention. This book is about our planet Earth being taken by aliens called souls.
They are planted into the human brain and they control our bodies like parasites. The remaining
humans stay hidden from the invaders and try to stay alive. By using these three literary devices,
Stephanie Myers makes the reader ask questions about themselves and shows that right and wrong is
gray rather than black and white. The title is the first symbolism in the story. In a parasitism
relationship, there is a host and a victim. The souls are hosts of the humans, and when they are taken
over, they slowly disappear from existence. The only way to tell the difference between humans and
souls is the eyes. A human body that s been taken over by a soul has a ring of silver around the pupil.
The eyes are symbolic of what it means to be human. The cave symbolizes a womb, specifically the
cave they put her in as a prisoner when she first gets to the humans. At first it is a prison ... Show more

Wanderer is a soul that has taken over Melanie s body, but Melanie refuses to disappear. Her

character foils between these two characters to create interest. Wanderer is gentle and kind, while
Melanie is a fighter, used to running and killing to stay alive. The biggest difference is that they are of
a different species, they do things differently. Wanderer is used to travelling from planet to planet and

Wanderer has never had a reason to settle down on one planet, she has never felt the powerful human
emotion until she comes to Earth. These critical differences show that even the most polar people can

Example Of Justifying A Value
1.) The first example of justifying a value is when getting my car detailed. I am looking at market
value, fair value and the utility factor for the services. This service satisfies the need and desire for a
clean car to take clients out with, after it was dirtied by a tough winter. I compared prices for similar
car detailing services, and asked around for referrals from several people. Of the two companies, one
was recommended strongly. I saw examples of each work and agreed with the highly recommended
company. In my opinion, the cost at the time was fair value and, compared to other detailers, was
market value. The prices were advertised for a year without any price increase. The second example of
justifying a value is when purchasing products from Starbucks Coffee. There is a slight influence upon
me through the desire of my teenage daughter wanting to visit the coffee shop. With my effective
purchasing power, and both our desire of a drink/coffee/treat once and a while, we will go to
Starbucks. It is true that Starbucks is a Going Concern, and their prices are fair value compared to
Timothies and Tim Hortons. I have joined their rewards program, which enables me to occasionally
receive free or discounted drinks, as well as free refills. Starbucks, with the loyalty program, is an
investment value to me.

Insanity of War in Slaughterhouse Five
Slaughterhouse Five, by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., is the tale of a gawky World War II veteran/soldier, Billy
Pilgrim. His wartime experiences and their effects lead him to the ultimate conclusion that war is
unexplainable. To portray this effectively, Vonnegut presents the story in two dimensions: historical
and science fiction. The irrationality of war is emphasized in each dimension by contrasts in its comic
and tragic elements. The historical seriousness of the Battle of the Bulge and the bombing of Dresden
are contrasted by many ironies and dark humor; the fantastical, science fiction type place of
Tralfamadore is, in truth, an outlet for Vonnegut to show his incredibly serious fatalistic views. The

One soldier dies from the dry heaves after being forced to work in a rotting corpse mine. Ironically,
this man has survived the bombing of Dresden, yet dies from the smell of others who died in the
bombing. Eventually, the corpse mines are closed because of the horrendous conditions, and the war
ends. The book ends as Billy is walking out of the slaughterhouse after gaining his freedom and he
notices is that, Birds were talking. One bird said to Billy Pilgrim, Poo tee weet? The bird s cameo in
the story reinforces the idea that there is nothing to say about an unnecessary massacre as in Dresden,
and that war is illogical, like the bird s words. This is ironic, since the theme of the novel, which
should be the clearest message derived from the story, is summed up in the incoherent words of a bird.
All these incidences of irony show senselessness and coincidence, with undertones of dark humor. [In
questioning why the incidences of the novel occur, it is impossible to give a logical explanation.] This
parallels the idea that war is nonsense, senseless, full of coincidence, and is unexplainable. As a result
of the trauma of Billy s war experience, he faces an inability to deal with reality later in his life. The
fantastical Tralfamadore is a planet where Billy escapes to when he feels life s stresses; however mad
Billy seems to have become, Tralfamadore doubles to reveal Vonnegut s earnest fatalistic views.

Ghost Soldiers Book Summary
Ghost Soldiers is a book that chronicles the horrific and tragic events that happened to the prisoners of
the Japanese camp in Cabanatuan. The book intertwines two main timelines; the treatment of the
POWs in Japanese custody, starting from the death march and continuing through the rescue mission,
and the story of the Rangers assignment and how it was formed. The Bataan Death March was the
march that brought the POWs to the Cabanatuan camp. Many were shot just for slowing down and
almost all of the prisoners were severely dehydrated during the march. That lead to many of them
drinking dirty and infested water. When they reached the camp, disease and infection ran wild. Many

unexpectedly. This book shows the courage of all soldiers and prisoners involved in these events.
Even with such an amazing and thrilling plot base, this book was incredibly difficult to sit and read.
Readers find themselves becoming lost and rereading passages and pages. While I greatly respect all
of the prisoners and soldiers for their courage and strength during this incredibly troublesome
encounter, this book did their valor no justice. Although this book is incredibly descriptive and
detailed, it is frequently thorough to a fault. It often takes the author three pages to describe something
that has little to no relevance to the actual plot. These little sub stories are often left unresolved. The
fact that the author goes completely off topic and rambles and then just leaves it untouched for the rest
of the story, adds to the already confusing intertwining plots and timelines. The actual mission that the
Rangers endured was entrancing all on its own . There is absolutely no need for pages upon pages of
useless side missions and

Arvo Lake, a retired seventy one year old man, bought an air conditioner in May. The unit was

contained a hole in the refrigeration system that allowed Freon, the coolant, to escape from the unit.
By August, the unit had ceased cooling, and Lake s residence reached a temperature of at least 96
degrees Fahrenheit. The heat caused Lake to suffer from hyperthermia, which caused circulatory
failure and then death. The executor of Lake s estate sued the manufacturer of the air conditioner for
damages resulting from breach of warranty.

Breach of warranty based product liability claims usually focus on one of three types:
1. Breach of an express warranty An express warranty is a guarantee from the seller of a product that
specifies the extent to which the quality or performance of the product is assured and states the
conditions under which the product can be returned, replaced, or repaired. It is often given in the form
of a specific, written Warranty document. However, a warranty may also arise by operation of law
based upon the seller s description of the goods, and perhaps their source and quality, and any material
deviation from that specification would violate the guarantee. For example, an advertisement
describing a product is often full of express warranties; the product must substantially conform to
what is advertised. Many advertisers insert disclaimers for this purpose (e.g., actual
color/mileage/results may vary , or not shown actual size ). Commonly, written warranties will assure
the buyer that an article is of good quality and against defects in materials and workmanship. A
warranty may also apply to services that

Analytical analysis and comparism of an everyday text with...
Choose one every day and one literary text. Using at least two analytical techniques from E301,
analyze and compare your two texts in terms of their creativity and literariness, drawing on material
from both parts of the module.
In this paper I will analyze and compare a literary text and an everyday text, in terms of their
creativity and literariness. I chose Philip Larkin s (1964) poem, Self s the man (see Appendix, Text 1),
as the literary text for analysis because it is not only smooth and pleasing to the eye and mind that it
seems effortless to read and contain within one s self but also because it arouses so many emotions
which makes it ideal for analysis. In Self s the man Larkin (1964), is being cynical towards
relationships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my analysis, I will first apply Jakobson s (1960) methodology, stylistics approach and Carter s
(1997) criteria of literariness to the two texts and then contrast them with illustrations in terms of
interpretative schemata. My intention in doing so is to highlight some of the strengths and weaknesses
of these approaches and also modes in which they interact to better comprehend the nature of
creativity and literariness.
On the graphological level, in Text 1, the noticeable attributes are the traditional lineation, stanza
divisions of poetry, and the presence of standard punctuation. The poem has 8 stanzas in all and each
stanza consists of 4 lines. This creates a set rhythmic pattern, particularly in conjunction with the
rhyme scheme. Text 2, on the other hand, on a graphic level, uses full capitalization in order to
emphasize every letter in the ad and make it look trim and tidy. The headline uses larger, capital and
bold letters to draw readers attention and make them curious about what the advertisement mainly has
to say, leading them to continue on reading unconsciously by arousing their curiosity and desire to
know more about the product and subsequently persuading them to buy it. Moreover, Text 2,
illustrates graphological deviation, by using solid background colors, and a brilliant diamond ring to
focus all the reader s attention to.
On the phonic level, Text 1 has little

Essay On The Story Of A Short Story
In a small village called Rabbitville, there was a community of rabbits that worked together, cherished
each other and loved the environment. Everyday day little Jack Daniel would go to the community
carrot mine and harvest just enough carrots to keep his family sustained. The people of this town tried
to keep the carrot mine a secret from the outside rabbit cities, because of how precious the mine was.
It was also Jack Daniel s great great grandfather that had started this mine and Jack would do anything

The next day Jack, while he was gathering carrots, he saw the rebel of Rabbitville, Colonel Rabbit

slowly crept forward toward them to listen to their conversation. As he crept towards them, he heard
Colonel say, Look at our amazing mine that we have built and is ready to provide for many more
rabbits. Jack was shocked that Colonel has betrayed our community trust, sell us out for money, and

Colonel Rabbit tail has, spread the news of the carrot mine! What shall we do?
Jack s father calmly said, That filthy old rabbit is out of his mind, but son we cannot do anything
about it. Jack was furious and adamant that he must do something to stop the colonel. Many days had
passed and not much change had taken place in Rabbitville. Then one day while Jack was flipping

  • 2. Examples Of Irony In The Convergence Of The Twain In Thomas Hardy s poem, The Convergence of the Twain , the speaker displays a peaceful and nonviolent interpretation towards the tragedy of the sinking of the grand ship known as the Titanic. By using immense amounts of irony, personification, and irony, Hardy is able to strengthen his claim that sinking of the Titanic was destined to occur due to both vanity of humans and mother nature. The first section of The Convergence of the Twain illustrates how humans are the cause of the sinking of the ship. The section also describes how the ship is free from human vanity and how it finally gets to be at peace. Instead of viewing this event as a tragedy, it is viewed in a positive way with a more peaceful and tranquil ending. In lines 2 and 3, Deep from human vanity, And the Pride of Life that planned her, stilly couches she , it explains how as a result of the ship being at the ocean floor, she is away from human corruption. Due to humans believing that they could create such a ship that could defy the laws of nature, becoming unsinkable, they didn t take any precautions into consideration causing her to be at peace on the ocean floor. In lines 3 through 5, Steel chambers, late the pyres Of her salamandrine fires, Cold currents thrid, and turn to rhythmic tidal lyres , explains that the ship goes through a transition in which the engines of the ship being as bright as a salamandrine fires to cold currents turning into rhythmic tidal lyres. • 3. Difference Between Rich And Poor The Gap Between the Rich and the Poor Each year, thousands of people all over the world come to the U.S. to chase a better life with beautiful houses, luxury cars and dream jobs, because they think America is the land of opportunities. However, inside this country, there are a lot of problems which lead to inequality, and one of them is a growing gap between the rich and poor people. The problem with rising inequality is a person like me who earns 1000 times as much as the typical American, Nick Hanauer, a venture capitalist explains on the film Inequality For All. If a normal person earns $10 an hour, a rich person can earn $10,000 an hour. Following economists and social scientists, the three primary reasons which lead to this gap are the taxes that the rich and poor pay, lack of education, and the increase of unemployment. Firstly, when we talk about the difference between the rich and poor, we must discuss paying taxes. On the report of Robert Reich, the former secretary labor, in Inequality For All, in 1978, the middle class and the working class earned over $48,000 per year and the upper class earned over $393,000. However, in 2010, this income gap rose significantly. Meanwhile, the income of the top 1% increased dramatically to over one million a year. The working class only earns around $33,000 a year. In this film, Robert Reich also says that Today the richest 400 Americans have more wealth than the bottom 150 million of us put together. That means the assets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Bedroom Observation Essay A.) Physical setting of the interview was on the second floor in the Rogue Community College library in study room #233. Window shades were slid open for the light to come into the window. Phoebe and I arranged the room so the clock was behind the person being interviewed. The clock was on top of the window sill out of site of the camera. We switched seats and roles so that we did not have to move the clock to the other side of the room. All small objects in the room were placed out of sight of the camera except for a lamp with a green cover on it and a glass vase with flowers in it. Phoebe brought the flowers for a prop. This was in response to her disclosing a new living situation with her grandma, in which she was snowed in at her house and spent the time watching television with her grandma. Intent for this open question was to bring awareness to the feelings associated with this new experience of hers. The client seemed to not want to go too far into how it felt because she does not have a close relationship with her grandmother. Second question was at 15:05. • 6. A Paradigm For Multiple Input Multiple Output ( Mimo )... Abstract A paradigm for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel modeling demands diversity technique to compensate the effects of fading and shadowing. In this paper, error performance of MIMO system is analyzed with orthogonal space time block code (OSTBC) and maximal ratio combining (MRC) techniques over Weibull gamma (WG) fading channel. WG distribution forms a composite channel model which is used to determine the effects of multipath as well as shadowing. Closed form expressions for symbol error rate (SER) are computed for MIMO systems using OSTBC and MRC in this scenario. Consequently, the effects of fading severity by varying shape parameters are also shown by simulation and analytical results. Keywords Multiple input multiple output (MIMO), orthogonal space time block code (OSTBC), maximal ratio combining (MRC), Weibull gamma (WG) fading, symbol error rate (SER). Introduction In the present wireless systems, the demand of proliferation of bandwidth for high data rate and reliable communication requirement is increasing. Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems are investigated to achieve these requirements. Also, diversity techniques are recommended to increase the reliability of system. Orthogonal space time block codes (OSTBCs) are employed in MIMO systems to achieve the full transmit diversity while allowing a simple maximum likelihood decoding algorithm. This algorithm is based on linear processing of received signals [1 2]. MIMO system uses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Rational And Rational Choice Theory Rational choice theory posits that any individual makes behavioral choices because they logically consider any potentially criminal situation, weigh the possible benefits versus the possible costs, and make a decision to act based on whether or not the benefits outweigh the risks. Rational choice theory differs from other philosophies in that it denies the existence of any kinds of action other than the purely rational and calculative. All social action, it is argued, can be seen as rationally motivated, as instrumental action, however much it may appear to be irrational or non rational (Scott, 2000). Making rational choices means being motivated by personal wants, goals, and needs. It is not possible for all wants and needs to be met or achieved; therefore, choices are made in order to bring the greatest satisfaction and happiness to the individual. Individual does not always reference one human being; rational choice theory is a main idea in economics, sociology, and many other social sciences. An individual with regard to the theory can be a corporation, group, or other defined entity that engages in decision making. The limitations of this theory have led researchers to develop many sub theories. My response to myself is always the same, We would be lost souls tormented by our selfishness . Which is why I take advantage of every opportunity that is giving to me to help others. I think we tend to forget that even the smallest gesture or helping hand, can make a huge difference in someone s life. Take the expanding issues of homelessness and poverty for instance. At least once a day, we witness an individual or a family experiencing homelessness. In America alone, there are approximately 643,067 people experiencing homelessness. The statistics vary from state to state. Approximately 33,466 of those individuals live in the state of Florida. The city Orlando, resides 2,074 out of the 33,466 individuals. Although all these individuals are experiencing homelessness, not everyone shares a common cause for their homelessness. There are three types of homelessness each having a different cause and issue. The three types are chronic, transitional, and episodic. Chronic homelessness is the least common homelessness, but it consists of those who are homeless for a longer amount of time, usually being elderly or injured individuals. • 13. Orientalism Is Defined As A Way Of Viewing Eastern Cultures Orientalism is defined as a way of viewing Eastern cultures in contrast to European and more Western cultures. Orientalism often leads to a distorted view of these cultures, often depicting the people as overly exotic, mysterious, or amoral. Such is the case with Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra. This play was written during a time when Shakespeare was turning his attention away from claustrophobic city life and focusing more on the world. He moves the setting of his play from Europe to Egypt, more specifically Alexandria, the city in which Cleopatra resides. While other locations are used in the play, the focus seems to be on Egypt and the culture there. Just like the Europeans of Shakespeare s time, the Romans in the play viewed Cleopatra and the race of people she represented as mysterious and were curious about them, yet were wary at the same time. There was a combination of both xenophobia and xenophilia among the people of Europe, and these mixed emotions are detailed in the contrast between the Roman s view of Cleopatra and the way she actually behaves during the play. There is a difference between the Egyptian culture in the minds of the Romans within the play and the culture that is actually depicted in the play, but there is a clear influence of the European views of the Egyptian lifestyle in Shakespeare s work. Despite this influence however, Cleopatra proves the stereotypes wrong by being more Roman than Mark Antony. The Romans put a strong emphasis on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Set In The Antebellum South, Mark Twain’S Adventures Of Set in the Antebellum South, Mark Twain s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn documents a landscape that differs greatly from the poised and picturesque scene associated with the contemporary South. Today s South is synonymous with with ice cold pitchers of tea, ceaseless etiquette exuded on wraparound porches, and seemingly romantic drawls. However, the South that Huck resides in, tells a different story. Specifically, his South is a place where suitable behavior is associated with the acceptance of slavery, and racist slurs pepper every sentence. As a result, any deviation from these behaviors leaves an individual ironically branded with a connotation of being uncivilized. Due to this distorted view of ethics, any character with even a shred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This occurrence exhibits Huck s lack of moral fiber, and serves as an excellent basis for him to develop an experience of human goodness (Nichols). As evidenced in the introductory instances regarding death, Huck s morality is defective and his sympathy is missing. Perhaps, Huck s flaws are due to his close contact with the iconic delinquent Tom Sawyer, who is likely corroding Huck s ethics. Consequently, when Huck bonds with his new partner in crime, Jim, a stark juxtaposition is evidenced between the ideals of Tom and Jim. However, luckily youth is a time of greater potential for change than any other stage of life , and Jim s positive influence proves beneficial (Trites 53) . Specifically, Jim is extraordinarily superstitious and attaches a copious amount of meaning to just about everything, even a measly snake skin (Twain 162). Of course, this means that Jim does not completely disregard the significance of death and importance of sympathy, as Tom and his mischievous mates do. Consequently, Jim has proven himself as a morally admirable figure (Bollinger). As a result, after prolonged exposure to Jim, Huck starts to exude more concern for the life of others, as evidenced in quite a few scenarios that take place on his and Jim s journey. • 17. The Causes Of The Cuban Revolution The Cuban Revolution in 1953 was an armed revolt against the right wing administration of Fulgencio Batista which was led by Fidel Castro and his 26th of July Movement. The revolution would continue until 1959 when the revolutionaries overthrew Batista and replace his government with a socialist state . There are many different reasons for the cause of this revolution which can be traced back to Cuba s relationship with the United States. Che Guevara s speech and the Platt Amendment are two primary sources that provide insight of the United States effect on the Cuban Revolution (Keen and Haynes 2013, 401). On January 29, 1959, Che Guevara delivered the speech named, The Social Ideals of the Rebel Army. Che Guevara met Fidel and Raul castro in Mexico City during the year of 1955. He joined the July 26 movement which was named after the attack of Moncada army barracks led by Fidel Castro. This attacked sparked a rebellion against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. Che would soon become the second in command of the historical Cuba revolution (Keen and Haynes 2013, 401). The speech he gave was sponsored by a cultural organization named Nuestro TIempo at a ceremony in Havana. He begins by giving praise to Jose Marti who was a symbol of Cuba s independence against Spain in the 19th century. Che claims that the revolution s goals are derived from Marti s dream of Cuban independence. Jose Marti led a revolution to break free from Spain s control which is similar to what the revolutaries during this time want as they want to eliminate the dictatorship that is controlling Cuba. In his speech, Che claims the way to accomplish this goal is by forming a coup as Barista did to get into power. However, Basita also had the support of the United States which provides insight into the relationship between the U.S and Cuba (Guevara, 1959). In 1952, Batista along with help from the United States overthrew the Prio presidency due to corruption and violence that shadowed his administration. Their first choice was Zeus, but he wisely declined, and instead, pointed them in the direction of Mount. Ida near Troy, where Prince Paris an excellent judge of beauty was doing shepherd s work. The three went to Paris, but instead of having him look at them to choose the prettiest, they all offered him a bribe and told him to choose the Goddess who offered the best thing (248). Hera promised to make him an Emperor of Europe and Asia. Athena said that he would lead the Trojans to victory against the Greeks. Aphrodite promised him the love of the fairest mortal on Earth. Although it was not an easy decision for him, Paris chose love and gave the golden apple to Aphrodite. This decision is what is said to be the cause of the long and famous Trojan War (249). 2. If one is to truly understand the philosophy of Hume and Descartes, one must understand what they would do with crummy roads as civil engineers in Montreal. Descartes, on the other hand, would probably leave nothing unscathed after attacking the problem with reason, scrapping the existing roadmap and re building roads with new foundations and new directions. For Descartes, knowledge is clarity and distinctness, and demonstrative, mathematical reasoning pave the way toward this knowledge. Descartes thought that logical deduction from first principles could uncover a whole series of truths about the world. Hume rejects the use of relations of ideas to acquire knowledge and instead turns to accumulation of data. Hume writes that demonstrative reasoning fails to uncover the relation which governs our understanding of matter of fact: cause and effect. A priori reasoning which ignores experience cannot draw any inference concerning real existence and matter of fact (Hume17). This is the central proposition of the Inquiry: causes and effects are discoverable, not by reason, but by experience (17). Our nation was founded on the premise that all human beings are created equal, stated Philip Roos, author of Psychological Impact of Sterilization on the Individual, and possess inalienable rights (45). It cuts out other forms of masculinity, it physically and mentally demanding, and its ill effects extend far beyond the men it infuses itself in. Yet what would we do if we were given other options for masculinity, ones that allowed for unique blends of attitudes and perceptions? Looking in to the lives of homeless men we can see the forced strategies which create new masculine codes created for the adaption against patriarchal pressures. They are made out of survival need to circumnavigate the painful mental and physical reality that is only made worse by harsh masculine standards. Yet these new masculinities hold out a form of hopefulness for society. They offer up new discussion to what it means to be a man, the potential for change, and what we can expect from changes in male identity over time. Wanderer is used to travelling from planet to planet and living as a host to many different species, while Melanie only knows Earth and her human way of life. Wanderer has never had a reason to settle down on one planet, she has never felt the powerful human emotion until she comes to Earth. These critical differences show that even the most polar people can work together and find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Example Of Justifying A Value 1.) The first example of justifying a value is when getting my car detailed. I am looking at market value, fair value and the utility factor for the services. This service satisfies the need and desire for a clean car to take clients out with, after it was dirtied by a tough winter. I compared prices for similar car detailing services, and asked around for referrals from several people. Of the two companies, one was recommended strongly. I saw examples of each work and agreed with the highly recommended company. In my opinion, the cost at the time was fair value and, compared to other detailers, was market value. The prices were advertised for a year without any price increase. The second example of justifying a value is when purchasing products from Starbucks Coffee. There is a slight influence upon me through the desire of my teenage daughter wanting to visit the coffee shop. With my effective purchasing power, and both our desire of a drink/coffee/treat once and a while, we will go to Starbucks. It is true that Starbucks is a Going Concern, and their prices are fair value compared to Timothies and Tim Hortons. I have joined their rewards program, which enables me to occasionally receive free or discounted drinks, as well as free refills. Starbucks, with the loyalty program, is an investment value to me. 2) In the City of Mississauga, lane use control in the area of Clarkson and Lorne Park have stemmed from Mississauga s master plan. • 30. Insanity of War in Slaughterhouse Five Slaughterhouse Five, by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., is the tale of a gawky World War II veteran/soldier, Billy Pilgrim. His wartime experiences and their effects lead him to the ultimate conclusion that war is unexplainable. To portray this effectively, Vonnegut presents the story in two dimensions: historical and science fiction. The irrationality of war is emphasized in each dimension by contrasts in its comic and tragic elements. The historical seriousness of the Battle of the Bulge and the bombing of Dresden are contrasted by many ironies and dark humor; the fantastical, science fiction type place of Tralfamadore is, in truth, an outlet for Vonnegut to show his incredibly serious fatalistic views. The surprising variations of the seriousness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One soldier dies from the dry heaves after being forced to work in a rotting corpse mine. Ironically, this man has survived the bombing of Dresden, yet dies from the smell of others who died in the bombing. Eventually, the corpse mines are closed because of the horrendous conditions, and the war ends. The book ends as Billy is walking out of the slaughterhouse after gaining his freedom and he notices is that, Birds were talking. One bird said to Billy Pilgrim, Poo tee weet? The bird s cameo in the story reinforces the idea that there is nothing to say about an unnecessary massacre as in Dresden, and that war is illogical, like the bird s words. This is ironic, since the theme of the novel, which should be the clearest message derived from the story, is summed up in the incoherent words of a bird. All these incidences of irony show senselessness and coincidence, with undertones of dark humor. [In questioning why the incidences of the novel occur, it is impossible to give a logical explanation.] This parallels the idea that war is nonsense, senseless, full of coincidence, and is unexplainable. As a result of the trauma of Billy s war experience, he faces an inability to deal with reality later in his life. The fantastical Tralfamadore is a planet where Billy escapes to when he feels life s stresses; however mad Billy seems to have become, Tralfamadore doubles to reveal Vonnegut s earnest fatalistic views. • 31. Ghost Soldiers Book Summary Ghost Soldiers is a book that chronicles the horrific and tragic events that happened to the prisoners of the Japanese camp in Cabanatuan. The book intertwines two main timelines; the treatment of the POWs in Japanese custody, starting from the death march and continuing through the rescue mission, and the story of the Rangers assignment and how it was formed. The Bataan Death March was the march that brought the POWs to the Cabanatuan camp. Many were shot just for slowing down and almost all of the prisoners were severely dehydrated during the march. That lead to many of them drinking dirty and infested water. When they reached the camp, disease and infection ran wild. Many POWs were tortured and starved, some to death, while many others ... This book shows the courage of all soldiers and prisoners involved in these events. Even with such an amazing and thrilling plot base, this book was incredibly difficult to sit and read. Readers find themselves becoming lost and rereading passages and pages. While I greatly respect all of the prisoners and soldiers for their courage and strength during this incredibly troublesome encounter, this book did their valor no justice. Although this book is incredibly descriptive and detailed, it is frequently thorough to a fault. It often takes the author three pages to describe something that has little to no relevance to the actual plot. These little sub stories are often left unresolved. The fact that the author goes completely off topic and rambles and then just leaves it untouched for the rest of the story, adds to the already confusing intertwining plots and timelines. The actual mission that the Rangers endured was entrancing all on its own . There is absolutely no need for pages upon pages of useless side missions and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The breach of the warranty is that the A/C was defective due to a design defect, and the manufacture is liable for the harm it cause to Lake Breach of warranty based product liability claims usually focus on one of three types: 1. Breach of an express warranty An express warranty is a guarantee from the seller of a product that specifies the extent to which the quality or performance of the product is assured and states the conditions under which the product can be returned, replaced, or repaired. It is often given in the form of a specific, written Warranty document. However, a warranty may also arise by operation of law based upon the seller s description of the goods, and perhaps their source and quality, and any material deviation from that specification would violate the guarantee. For example, an advertisement describing a product is often full of express warranties; the product must substantially conform to what is advertised. Many advertisers insert disclaimers for this purpose (e.g., actual color/mileage/results may vary , or not shown actual size ). Commonly, written warranties will assure the buyer that an article is of good quality and against defects in materials and workmanship. A warranty may also apply to services that ... With such a vast array of public notices, it s crucial that they appeal to people psychologically, using rhetorical devices. During an expedition for the most complex, eye catching ad, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon the 2010 Dodge Challenger. Astounded by the multiplex of this advertisement, my inner curiosity was enkindled. In this persuasive notice, the appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos are strategically used to persuade the target audience that the 2010 Dodge Challenger is the car for them. Visual Aesthetics The foremost president of the United States, George Washington, proudly stands before a beautifully built piece of machinery, the 2010 Dodge Challenger. Using at least two analytical techniques from E301, analyze and compare your two texts in terms of their creativity and literariness, drawing on material from both parts of the module. In this paper I will analyze and compare a literary text and an everyday text, in terms of their creativity and literariness. I chose Philip Larkin s (1964) poem, Self s the man (see Appendix, Text 1), as the literary text for analysis because it is not only smooth and pleasing to the eye and mind that it seems effortless to read and contain within one s self but also because it arouses so many emotions which makes it ideal for analysis. In Self s the man Larkin (1964), is being cynical towards relationships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my analysis, I will first apply Jakobson s (1960) methodology, stylistics approach and Carter s (1997) criteria of literariness to the two texts and then contrast them with illustrations in terms of interpretative schemata. My intention in doing so is to highlight some of the strengths and weaknesses of these approaches and also modes in which they interact to better comprehend the nature of creativity and literariness. On the graphological level, in Text 1, the noticeable attributes are the traditional lineation, stanza divisions of poetry, and the presence of standard punctuation. The poem has 8 stanzas in all and each stanza consists of 4 lines. This creates a set rhythmic pattern, particularly in conjunction with the rhyme scheme. Text 2, on the other hand, on a graphic level, uses full capitalization in order to emphasize every letter in the ad and make it look trim and tidy. The headline uses larger, capital and bold letters to draw readers attention and make them curious about what the advertisement mainly has to say, leading them to continue on reading unconsciously by arousing their curiosity and desire to know more about the product and subsequently persuading them to buy it. Moreover, Text 2, illustrates graphological deviation, by using solid background colors, and a brilliant diamond ring to focus all the reader s attention to.
