Analysis Of The Book The Chronicles Of Narnia
Clive Staples Lewis, a British novelist, poet, academic, and Christian apologist managed to
transcend cultural boundaries with his fictional literary book series, The Chronicles of Narnia.
The book series is regarded as a classic of children s literature and is Lewis s best known work,
having sold over 100 million copies in 47 languages. The books were written around 1950 and
have been adapted through several mediums, including film. In particular, the film creation of the
first of the seven books, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, made in 2005, presents a
problematic dynamic of gender, genre, and religion. The Chronicles of Narniabook series is meant
to portray the Christian morality throughout the book series. Therefore, whatever is presented
about gender holds merit regarding how the Christian worldview sees gender. Within The Lion,
The Witch, and The Wardrobe, a particular scene with a man named Father Christmas provides a
clear view as to how gender is seen in the series. In this scene, Father Christmas meets the four
main characters of the film, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy who are all siblings. Before the
children engage in the beginning of a nasty war, Father Christmas provides exclusively gender
specific gifts to the children. The oldest boy, Peter, receives a sword while his slightly younger
sister Susan, receives a horn to simply, call for help, and a bow and arrow that is not meant to be
used in battle. The second boy Edmund also receives a

Whales were peeled by vessels, conserved by the cold, and packed in barrels. 1719 Greenland

From the beginning of the 1690s the British had hunted down whales (have been fishing) in the

Morisot Vs Monet
Edgar Degas once said, art is not what you see but what you can make others see. Both pieces,
Impression, Sunrise by Monet and Summer s Day by Morisot, fulfill what Degas was getting at.
The painting by Claude Monet was a made in 1872 with oil on a rectangle canvas that was
nineteen inches by twenty four and three eighths. The piece is a view of the sunrising in the harbor
of Le Havre, France which was Monet s hometown. It contains the sky and the reflection of it in
the water with small boats containing a few individuals in the foreground of the painting. In the
background, there are larger, more industrial ships that are not very defined; they almost blend
into the colors of the rising sky. Monet s work uses vivid colors of blues and oranges

Resinsof Bakelite
Bakelite s molding process had a number of advantages. Bakelite resin could be provided either as
powder or as preformed partially cured slugs thus increasing the speed of the casting.
Thermosetting resinsof Bakelite though require heat and pressure during the molding cycle, but
without being cooled it could be removed from the molding process, hence the molding process
becomes faster [36]. Because of the smooth polished surface that is obtained, Bakelite objects
required less finishing. Bakelite can be molded very quickly thus it is good for mass production of
identical units. Moldings are smooth, retain their shape and are resistant to heat, scratches and
destructive solvents. Phenolic resin products may swell slightly under conditions of extreme

Bakelite distributor rotor [37] 3.7.2. Applications and Uses Bakelite is much suited as a molding
compound, an adhesive or binding agent, a varnish, and as a protective coating. Bakelite is
particularly suitable for the emerging electrical and automobile industries because of its very high
resistance to heat, chemical action and electricity. During World War I, Bakelite was widely used
for machine parts, particularly electrical systems. Important projects included the Liberty Motor,
the wireless telephone and radio phone. Bakelite s availability, ease and speed of molding helped
to lower the costs of production and increased product availability so that both telephones and
radios became common household consumer goods. During World War II, Bakelite was used in a
variety of wartime equipment including pilot s goggles and field telephones. In 1943, the
thermosetting phenolic resin was even considered for the manufacture of coins, due to a shortage of
traditional material. Phenolic resins have been commonly used in ablative heat shields. Soviet heat

Sexism In The Help
In a sexism stricken society there are drawbacks that affect women every day of their lives.
According to men, about 56% of them think sexism is no longer an issue (Source). Today, sexism
is still a threat to women of all over the world. Kathryn Stockett, the author of The Help, addresses
sexism to make the time period genuine to the reader. The sexismin Stockett s book is brought
forth indirectly. Stockett uses two of her main protagonists as an example on how sexism affects
women and the roles they are supposed to play. Sexism is a practice that is detrimental to women,
entices violence, and creates a social barrier between the sexes.
To begin with, women often find themselves in adverse situations that they have no control over.
Skeeter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Comparing today s society to the society in The Help, jobs were only offered to women who fit
the look of a petite, feminine woman and nowadays people are hired for the amount of experience
they had. Stockett emphasizes the gender barrier many women experience during the time period
she depicts in her book. In the beginning chapters when Miss. Skeeter is looking for a job she
encounters a, squat, single column under HELP WANTED: FEMALE (Stockett 68), in the
daily paper implying there is a limit of jobs that women can work. Most of them happened to be
secretary positions. This is not only hurtful to women who do not fit the conventional stereotype
of a woman, but to women who want to change their world even if it means baby steps. Men are
always offered, at least four columns filled with bank managers, accountants, loan officers, cotton
collate operators. On this page, Percy Gray, LP, is offering Jr. Stenographers fifty more cents an
hour (Stockett 69), additionally adding to the notion that men have more job opportunities and
make more money. The way that sexism plays its role in society make it seem like there is no
way of overcoming this obstacle faced by women. Breaking the large social boundary that women
should play house while the men watch television is happening in real life in today s time. All
thing considered, women today are being more than a simple housewife, they are

1. Case study Women on the Right Track at CP Rail Women comprise nearly half of Canada s
workforce, but over the last two decades, they have made no progress in obtaining senior
management roles. This lack of success may deter younger women from entering certain
professions and from learning from role models. Furthermore, research shows that a lack of
diversity can affect retention, productivity, and innovation. Companies with more female senior
managers have a higher return on equity than those with lower rates of female senior managers.
With this research in mind, CP Rail undertook three initiatives to increase the number of women
managers: * Each department must have diversity goals. * Mentoring programs for females have...

Analysis Of Columbia Pictures A Few Good Men
The following work aims to take a closer look at cultures, leadership and paradigms in Columbia
Pictures (1992) film; A Few Good Men. This film provides many examples of differing cultures
as well as illustrating examples of leadership, management, and followership. Many lessons can
be learned; standing up for what is right and standing up for what you believe in are apparent, as
well as leaders not always making the best decisions. At the end of the day, one must be at peace
with the direction of their own moral compass and actions.

They utilized specialized legal terms that only individuals in the legal profession would
understand. Espoused values as illustrated by Schein (2009) are: strategies, goals, philosophies
(p.21). For the Marines at Guantanamo Bay, their purpose was to provide security for the Unites
States of America under the guidance of the commanding officer (Col. Nathan R. Jessep). During
the trial, Capt. Jack Ross provided two manuals that Marines are to follow: The Marine Guide and
General Information Handbook for New Recruits and The Marine Corps Guide for Sentry Duty
at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba which provided the basic outline for Marine actions, responsibilities
and duties. As for the lawyers involved, they shared a pre requisite fundamental knowledge of the
law. They all had law degrees as well as being members of the Armed Services. These two
cultures, attorney and military produces a unique culture, having its own terminologies and
decorum practices. They had specific responsibilities and guidelines that had to be followed, as
both council and officers. As for underlying assumptions or shared tacit assumptions, Schein
(2009) provides the following description about them: unconscious, taken for granted belief,
perceptions, thought and fillings (ultimate source of values and action) (p. 21). The Marines as
described by Lance Cpl. Harold W. Dawson followed a code: Unit, Corps, God, County (Brown

The Characteristics Of Beethoven And The Emperor Symphony
The String Quartet was dedicated to Joseph Haydn, who was Beethoven s teacher
These characteristics of the Hunt Quartet are found in the Emperor concerto, especially in the 6/8
Finale, which uses solely triadic melodies based on the tonic and dominant chords exclusively
In some ways, Haydn, with his Military Symphony and the great E flat symphony no

The Emperor Concerto uses similar characteristics of the Military Symphony no

expectation, stops and rests to introduce the essential element of silence, and a turn to the minor to

In his early works, when Beethoven could hear the full range of frequencies, he made use of higher
notes in his compositions
As his hearing failed, he began to use the lower notes that he could hear more clearly
Works including the Moonlight Sonata, his only opera Fidelio and six symphonies were written
during this period
The high notes returned to his compositions towards the end of his life which suggests he was
hearing the works take shape in his imagination
E flat Major, the key of the Emperor concerto, is closely related to its relative C minor, as they
both share three flats in the key signature
A lot of scholars have explored the heroism of C minor, however I would argue the fact that what
applies to C minor can also be said of E flat

He challenged the people specially nonbelievers to debates, at first to defend Manicheanism, which

odds with Manicheanism. He influenced others like Thomas Aquinas to look into Christianityand

Glaciers-The Identity Of A Glaicer
The Identity of a Glaicer Glaciers have helped define the topography of earth for many years. A
glacier is a large mass of ice that has been compacted of snow and ice for a long period of time. The
ice age we will be focusing on is the Pleistocene era, which was a period that began about 2.5
million years ago and ended about 10,000 years ago (513). This was the most recent ice agewhere it
helped formed our present day lands. During this time, ice covered about 19 million square miles
which was about 1/3 of earths land surface (515). Many parts of all the continents were covered
with ice and that had a great effect on our topography due to the glaciers it created. The two
primary types of glaciers are continental ice sheets and mountain... Show more content on

The moraines is a general term for glacier deposited landforms composed of till (526). The
features usually are irregular and is normally longer than wider. The three types of moraines in
glacial deposition of ice sheets are terminal, recessional and ground. Terminal moraine is the front
part of a glacier where all the power is. Although glaciers may appear to stop moving forward, the
internal part of the glacier continues to give strength to its movement. Recessional moraine is
right behind the terminal moraine where the ice would spread out putting pressure out to the
edges in bulges. The last type is called ground moraine and that is when large quantities of till are
laid down from underneath the glacier rather than from its edge (527). A feature we see from the
glaciers deposition is an elongated hill (527) called a drumlin. These long, small hills that are
usually in groups, are much smaller than moraines but still made predominantly of

Operation and War Sustainment
Introduction War finds success and failures inescapably linked to how well Combined, Joint, and

operational and tactical objectives. Operation OVERLORD provides an excellent case study as
large scale and complex example synchronizing, coordinating, and integrating the logistics

Joint Sustainment, Imperatives, and Principles Joint Publication 3.0 entitled Joint Operations,
defines the Sustainment Function as the provision of logistics and personnel services necessary to
maintain and prolong operations through mission accomplishment and redeployment of the force.
Joint Publication 4 0 goes on further to say Effective joint logistics planning identifies future
requirements and proposes solutions; it requires joint logisticians to understand the commander s
intent and concept of operations (CONOPS). (JP 4 0 p. 57) Logisticians use seven principals in
their planning whether at the strategic, operational, or tactical level of war to ensure the operations
are logistically supportable. These principles are responsiveness, simplicity, flexibility, economy,

Essay on Apostolic Ministry in Rome
Apostolic Ministry in Rome
According to tradition, there are two apostles who ministered in Rome. While some modern
scholars question whether the Apostle Peter was ever in Rome, he is certainly the most celebrated
Apostle of the city. A simple example of this is that the largest basilica in Rome (and one of the
largest in the world) is named in honor of Saint Peter. The Apostle Pauls existence in Rome is less
disputed and even though he is less commemorated nearly two millennia later. The circumstances
surrounding Peter and Paul s arrivals in Rome, their ministries in Rome, and their deaths are worth
examining since these two figures are still remembered nearly two millennia after their ministries in
Rome.

Sororities Vs Cults Essay
Conditional Unconditional Love. Cults and Sororities. The collective congregation of others to
meet or attain a certain goal is the same for all social creatures. Two predominant groups
showcase this ideology quite well, these two being cults and sororities. Cults are a group of
people who worship a figure or object to levels that could be called devotion, and sororities are a
group of people who come together in a university or college for social purposes. These groups
share many types of physiological tactics to cancel out personal autonomy and to promote unity
and a sense of acceptance and belonging. While they have traits in common there are also clear
differences in each established collection. A positive light is shined more on sororities due to their
benefits to one s experience in college, while cults have a more negative connotation due to their
extreme devotion and loss of one s personal power. Each in their own right gives a service that we
re subconsciously susceptible to, the need and desire to belong. Although cults and sororities share
many physiological strategies in removing self autonomy, they greatly vary in their impacts... Show

Examples Of Odysseus As A Modern Hero
What do you think a hero is? I think a hero is someone who cares about others, has a kind
personality, and is a good leader. In the text The Odyssey, people have argued whether or not the
main character, Odysseus, is a hero. I think that Odysseus is a modern hero because he is loyal,
smart, and he is brave.
One way that Odysseus fits the mold of a modern hero is how he is loyal. He was loyal because he
always tried to keep his men safe. In the story The Lotus Eaters while they were on the Land of
the Lotus Eaters, he made sure all of his men were on the ship so none of them were left behind.
He also made sure none of the men on Island of Thrinacia ate Helios cattle. This made him loyal
because loyal people always have their friends backs. This compares Odysseus to a modern hero

journals. In modern society a common research tool used is the internet, one if its key advantages is
its accessibility. Most people have access to the internet throughout the day and night; at home, on
the move via mobile phones and tablets, education premises, workplace and public libraries, this
creates flexibility and allows people to research information at a time and place convenient to them.
Another strength is the amount of information... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The content in text books is generally accurate and of good quality due to it being well
researched itself and being subject to review and quality checks by the publisher. In addition, the
format of a text book makes it easy to locate the information required and simple to book mark
key points for future use. Another strength is the details necessary for referencing the source are
clearly presented. Some disadvantages of using text books are the physical and financial barriers
to accessing them. Copies available in libraries may be limited and the time needed to visit a
library could be restricted by an individual s personal commitments. To purchase a text book can
be expensive and often difficult to source locally. In addition, written sources can become outdated,
e.g. new theories and discoveries could be made which consequently make the content inaccurate
or irrelevant. Television and radio as a research tool can be a welcome alternative to reading. The
benefits being that information displayed in a visual or audio format can in some instances be
understood better than on paper, presented in an engaging manner making it more interesting and
holding the viewers attention. In addition, radio/podcasts can be listened to whilst additional tasks
are completed, e.g. driving, walking the dog. The negative side being the narrative can be at a fast
pace resulting in note taking being restricted and essential facts not

Poaching in Africa
Endangered animals all over Africa are on the verge of extinction due to human greed. It is very
difficult to even fathom how many animals are lost each year to poaching. Animals are being
stripped for their parts and left for dead. Poaching has completely exhausted animal populations in
Africa, which damages the environment, and is affecting people all over the world both socially
and through international relations. Poaching is a growing activity in Africaand it is dangerously
depleting animal populations. Poaching is defined as the illegal killing of endangered and/or
protected animals and could also be considered hurting animals that are on protected land
(Pedersen). If poaching is continued, years of conservation and development would have been
for nothing. For years, groups have put work and money into keeping animals safe. Many
people turn to poaching as an activity because it s a quick way to make a lot of money as tusks
of a single adult elephant can be worth more than ten times the average annual income in many
African countries . Rhino poaching rates were up 1000% at the beginning of the decade and is
continuing to grow quickly ( The African Poaching Crisis ). Many, many animals and people are
affected by this poaching. Poaching is the result of many other issues. High demands in Asian
markets mean more reward for poachers and without this demand there would be no reason to
poach at all ( Poaching Infographic ). Another cause of poaching is the

The United States Civil War Essay
The United States Civil War can be considered as one of the darkest times in American history.
The Southern states were fighting for their way of life, and the Northern states were fighting to
preserve the Union. The war had begun in the year of 1861, and it would end in 1865 with the
capture of Jefferson Davis and surrender of Robert E. Lee. The war had begun at the battle of Fort
Sumter. After this battle, the newly elected Abraham Lincoln called for volunteers to join the
Union forces. In 1862, Union and Confederate forces would meet again at the battle of Fort Henry
and Donelson. With the Union succeeding at pushing the Confederate forces further back into the
South, General Grant and his army made their way down the TennesseeRiver. The forces would
meet again at the Battle of Shiloh and Pittsburg Landing. There have been many arguments
supporting the theory that the Confederacy did in fact win at the Battle of Shiloh. Although the
Union lost more troops at this battle, the Confederacy failed in many ways. In order to determine
how exactly they failed, it is important to study what the goal of the Confederacy was at Shiloh
and whether or not they accomplished this goal. In this essay, the Confederacy s goals for attacking
Grant s troops at Shiloh and their failure to accomplish those goals will show just how unsuccessful
the Confederate army truly was at this battle.1
There had been decades of tension between the Southern and Northern states of America. The

Media Bias
The media today has become a topic of concern for many members of the general population. Am
I getting a reliable source of information? Is this source withholding the truth and ameliorating a
topic? If I know that the information being reported is false, how can I trust that any other
information from this source can be trusted? These are several questions that a particular citizen
might make on a day to day basis, and when the question of bias is thrown into the mix, an
overwhelming feeling of mistrust in our media can ensue. Media sources today are siding more and
more towards their viewers political views, and this creates a form of media bias that can spread

Many members of the general public have caught onto the ruse of mass media outlets, and are
starting to not trust them. A Gallup poll from the somewhat recent year of late 2016 has shown
that Americans trust in mass media has fallen to a record setting low. For the general
population, only 32 percent of Americans trusted the media outlets reports with a great deal of
trust or a fair amount of trust . A deeper look into the polling shows that only 14 percent of
population who classify as Republican trust the media a great deal or a fair amount. This could
be due to the bias against Republicans in certain media sources, or it could fall into something
deeper. As for age groups, ages 18 49 have shown 26 percent in the same trust rating, while 50
and older shows 38 percent. The difference in percentages due to age are most likely due to the
technological fluency of younger generations. Better understanding of technology can allow for a

Side Effects Of Potassium Sorbates
Even though sorbates are widely used not only in food industries, but cosmetic products due to
their good preservative properties, there are also several health concerns regarding the
consumption and exposure of sorbates. Albeit regarded as safe and non toxic, some people still
experienced side effects of prolong consumption of foods containing sorbates. Some reported
diarrhea and even nausea (in case of potassium sorbate) after consuming extreme amount of
sorbates, decreasing the nutrient value of their system. Irritations and rashes may also be an
issue by some people after over exposure to this preservative. Potassium sorbate is of a greater
concern as compared to the other two, sorbic acid and calcium sorbate who have allergies to
potassium affecting the renal and kidney. Nonetheless, the maximum allowable limit for sorbates is

The Home Improvement Industry
The U.S. kitchen renovation market reached $17 billion in 2005. Growth in this market was at
an all time high in the mid 2000s, but the economic recession in 2008 also led to a slowdown in
this sector. Research indicated that approximately 75 percent of kitchen remodeling projects
were done through professionals, while 25 percent were completed by homeowners themselves.
Most of the DIY projects were undertaken by lower income homeowners who could not afford to
hire professional service firms (see Exhibit 1 for a breakdown of source of kitchen remodeling
services by income). Major kitchen remodeling projects cost anywhere between $40,000 and
$80,000, depending on the choice of materials (see Exhibit 2 for details on trends in kitchen
remodeling costs).
The home renovation industry was highly fragmented; nearly 30 percent of the industry consisted
of private, local companies who reported less than $100,000 in revenue annually.2 The industry

independent contractors. Small companies and independent contractors had

The Right to Privacy via Electronic Transmissions Essay
The right to privacy, via electronic transmissions to include the internet, is an ever present issue
that does not and most likely will not ever have a solution that will not only satisfy the wants of
citizens but the security needs of the nation. When issues of privacy arise we refer to a non
evolving, interpreted document called the Constitution written over two centuries ago. In order to
maintain national security, citizens must surrender some privacy for the good of the nation and
themselves. If privacy takes precedent over national security, then our nation becomes susceptible
to attacks both electronic and physical in nature. But if a fair and proper agreement between the
need for privacy and security can be reached, then it is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Framers wrote and established the Constitution to protect the citizens from any physical threat
within the nation. In reference to the right to privacy, the word privacy is never actually written in
the constitution. 1st, 3rd, 4th, 9th and 14th amendments have been interpreted to protect certain
privacies. The 1st amendment is the privacy of beliefs . The 3rd amendment is the privacy of the
home . The 4th amendment is the privacy of the person and possessions . The 9th amendment is the
general protection of privacy . The 14th amendment is the liberty clause, stating that states cannot
take away a citizen s life, liberty, or property without due process. These amendments in their
original form protect citizens from the states and the federal government, but through the evolution
of society and it s technologies we now also need protection against those outside of the United
States. The need to interpret how the constitution is to be applied to varying situations shows that
the constitution is in fact not a living document. Because it is not alive, it has not evolved or
adapted to the pressing needs of the nation. In 1890, the first wiretap occurred. A wiretap is the
monitoring of telephone or Internet conversation by a third party. In 1928, the Supreme Court
decided that wiretapping was constitutional because it cannot be considered a violation of the 4th
amendment. The 4th amendment protects citizens against unlawful search

The Comic Stumptown By Greg Rucka And Matthew Southworth...
The comic Stumptown by Greg Rucka and Matthew Southworth and the retro audio podcast
Nick Carter: Master Detective starring Lon Clack portray the different roles of women in
detective fiction. Nick Carter was on the radio from 1943 to 1955, and represents more
traditional roles for gender. Over the 125 episodes, the radio show followed detective Nick Carter
and his female assistant, Patsy on different crime scene investigations. Carter was also able to
solve seemingly impossible crimes by looking at unique angles. Stumptown was published in 2011.
It represents a more modern view on genderroles in detecting. In this comic, Dex Parios, a private
investigator, is hired to find someone s granddaughter. She encounters many difficulties while
investigating and attempting to find the missing girl. In the end, the plot ends up being a lot more
complicated than initially presented. In this essay, I am going to look at how the role of gender in
detective fiction has evolved over time.
Although Nick Carter had both books and a movie about him, the most well known installment
of his story was the radio show. Nick Carter: Master Detective was produced in the 1940s and
50s, which means it reflects a traditional view of gender roles in detecting, as well as in the
world, that was common of this time period. The patriarchal society dictates that men are the

Theme Of Lamb To The Slaughter
The motif of the lamb leg within Lamb to the Slaughter , by Roald Dahl, contributes to the
development of the story by embolizing Mrs. Maloney s facade of innocence, which in turn
strengthen the moral dilemma of either turning herself in as a criminal risking her child s life or
to continue living as a metaphoric lamb leg with the benefit of allowing her to raise her child
without fear. Starting with why the lamb leg emblemizes Mrs. Maloney s facade of innocence,
one must first look at what a lamb by itself denotes, then narrow down and look at the meaning of
a lamb leg. In regard to denotation, a lamb leg is the young offspring of a sheep. But what lambs
embody within society is innocence. However, moving along, a lamb leg on the other hand... Show

After the murder of Mr. Maloney is done, she strays even further from the path of the lamb when
she creates an artificial alibi by going through extreme lengths to protect her child from harm,
which can seen within text. Her first step to create her artificial alibi was going to the grocery
after the murder. Before going, she rehearse[s] [her smiles and dialogue] several times (Roald 3).
By rehearsing, she keeps her appearance as a lovely housewife when conversing with the

manipulation. Afterwards, when the police arrive at the scene of murder due to Mrs. Maloney s
call, she manipulates the officers by setting setting the mood of sorrow and despair while she sob[s]

using the artificial alibi she created while shopping for groceries, and further manipulates the
officers by clouding their judgement with whisky. Mrs. Maloney s reason for manipulation can be
inferred when she questions what happens to the unborn child of a murder on the third page, which

Analysis Of I Taught Myself To Live Simply By Anna Akhmatova
In the Russian Revolution period, where censorship, famine and restrictions limited most forms of
expression, Anna Akhmatova s plight was captured by her poetry. In her poetry, she skillfully
weaves poetic devices throughout. Her arsenal of different poetic devices immerses the reader in
her circumstances and while other poetic devices are used, by primarily utilizing imagery, allusions,
comparisons, and diction, Akhmatova engrosses the reader into her situations.
By appealing to a majority of the senses, Akhmatova utilizes imagery to depict her situations. In I
Taught Myself to Live Simply, Anna Akhmatovautilizes visual, auditory and kinesthetic imagery,
appealing to the reader s sense of sight, sound and touch. In this poem, the speaker retells how she
enjoys the simple life, whether it s enjoying her environment or delineating The fluffy cat [licking]
[her] palm, [purring] so sweetly. Although Akhmatova utilized a different language, through the
translation it still describes what Akhmatova experiences around her. Akhmatova s usage of
onomatopoeia adds sound imagery to her poetry, additionally, the description of the fluffy cat
[licking] [her] palm adds visual and tactile imagery to her poetry. These three forms of imagery
allow the reader to visualize what Akhmatova sees, hears and feels around her, by doing so, she
successfully utilizes imagery to immerse the reader into her situation. Likewise, in Song of the Last
Meeting, Akhmatova employs auditory, visual

Romeo And Juliet Romantic Love Essay
American author and psychotherapist, Robert A. Johnson, once said, Romantic love, being the
single greatest energy system in the Western psyche, is a tremendous power that attracts. Romantic
love is compelling and influential, however it is not the only kind of love. Love comes in many
different forms each with their own special bond between the lovers. Some of these different types
of loveare friendship, unrequited love, parental love, love of family honor, and romantic love.
Many of these distinct types of love are present in William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Romeo

For instance, when Romeo drinks the poison to kill himself, he declares, Here s to my love
[drinks] O true apothecary./ Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die. (V. iii. 119 120).
Romeo s action of killing himself implies that he would rather die than have to live his life being
separated from his lover Juliet. Romeo s romantic love for Juliet was so influential that it drove
him to kill himself, which no other kind of love had the power or impact to do. When Juliet
awoke from her faked death and found Romeo s body, she was devastated and reacted to the
death of her love the same way Romeo did, by killing herself. For example, after discovering
Romeo s dead body, Juliet comes upon Romeo s dagger and picks it up while stating, This is thy
sheath; there rust and let me die. [She stabs herself and falls.] (V. iii. 170). Juliet s action of killing
herself is prominent in the story because it establishes the strength of love. Juliet loved Romeo
enough to commit suicide, which indicates that the romantic love Juliet had for Romeo was more
significant than Juliet s will to live. Romeo and Juliet s decision to kill themselves reveals the
dominance of romantic love over other types of

Where To Move
At last! The decision to move has finally been made and after a long time of discussing where to
move to, my family and I have decided to move to California. We have been consulting about
where to move to for a while now but all the places that were talked about had been vetoed, so the
subject was always dropped and we continued on live on Cape Codin Massachusetts. After a long
winter, my mother had come into contact with one of her old friends who was living in California.
At first she had only jokingly mentioned the idea of moving with her friend. But soon the
conversation became serious and we began to actually plan everything out. My mother was
surprised at the amount of enthusiasm that my siblings and I had showed compared to other times....

At my old school I had known everyone in my grade and although most were not specifically, my
friends we were still kind to each other and nobody ever judged a person without knowing them.
So when I began to think about what my new schools would be like I became worried about how
I would be treated among the students and teachers. But I was also excited to make new friends
while experiencing the new world. In excitement I began to look up the schools that were
around the area that I was going to live in. This mini research helped a lot with my nerves because
the schools didn t look too bad. Also, I take a lot of pride (and worry) in my academic success so I
was relieved when the schools also looked academically good. And just like that, another obstacle
was passed and I became close to the end of the obstacle

Theme Of 9 Jakhoo Hill
Interplay of economy and human relationships in Gurcharan Das s 9 Jakhoo Hill constitutes the
main theme presented through the story of two migrated families of Lahore after the partition. Here
Gurcharan Das tries to explain how economy reflects in human relationships and thus constitutes
the prominent theme in 9 Jakhoo Hill. The great economic and political questions of the time, the
play set in, was to eliminate poverty through economic reforms and social changes. As happened in
the European countries after the Industrial Revolution, so is experienced in the post independent
Indiain terms of socio economic changes. As the consequences of the economic reforms,

Siberian Tiger Paragraph
Siberian Tiger The Siberian or Amur tiger is well known for being one of the biggest Asian cats
in the world;. Its also known for its wonderful dark, horizontal stripes on orange fur. The average
tiger weighs between 396 to 660 pounds and can reach a length up to 10 feet. Because of its size,
it is widely believed to be a powerful animal. However, these majestic animals are endangered in
fact, they are among one of the most endangered species on Earth. By the 1940s, the Siberian tiger
was driven to the brink of extinction. Only forty tigers remained in the wild at the time.
Fortunately, Russia granted the tiger full protection; which made Russia the first country in the
world to do so. The population of the Siberian tiger increased to 500 in the 1980s, however,
poaching activity increased after the Soviet Union fell. There are only as many as 540 Siberian
tigers left in the wild, and although the population is stable, they are still on the brink of
extinction. At some point in time, the Siberian tiger population stretched out across the western
and Central Asia, and throughout Russia. As of now, Siberian tigers primarily live in eastern
Russia, but it s worth noting that a few Siberian tigers live in North Korea and China. Siberian
tigers are found in temperate forested areas and secluded mountain ranges. Siberian tigers can
handle extreme cold temperatures, so many tigers can be found in areas with a harsher and colder
climate. The Siberian tiger is a

Lifes Greatest Lesson Essay
Life s Greatest Lesson
A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops. As Henry Adams stated, and
is the summary of the impervious bond between the characters Mitch and Morrie, in Tuesdays with
Morrie. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) often referred to as Lou Gehrig s disease is a form of
motor neuron diseases. It is a rare disorder in which the nerves that control muscular activity
degenerate within the brain and spinal cord. What results is weakness and wasting away of the
muscles. The cause is unknown. About one to two cases of ALS are diagnosed annually per
100,000 people in the US. (Lou) Sufferers will notice weakness in the hands and arms accompanied

Morrie Schwartz was a man of great wisdom who loved and enjoyed to see and experience the
simplicity of life, something beyond life s most challenging and unanswered mysteries. It is
from Morrie that we learn that life is most happily experienced when enjoyed and fulfilled to its
highest ability. Morrie touched the lives of many, and he will always be remembered for his
sincerity and his compassion for life and for love. The lessons Morrie loved to teach were of his
own experience with life.
In his lessons, Morrie advises Mitch to reject the popular culture in favor of creating his own. The
individualistic culture Morrie encourages Mitch to create for him is a culture founded on love,
acceptance, and human goodness, a culture that upholds a set of ethical values unlike the mores
that popular culture endorses. Popular culture, Morrie says, is founded on greed, selfishness, and
superficiality, which he urges Mitch to overcome. Morrie also stresses that he and Mitch must
accept death and aging, as both are inevitable.
A symbol that represents Morrie s life throughout the book is the pink hibiscus plant. As Morrie s
body deteriorates, so does the condition of the hibiscus plant. The plant s pink petals wither and
fall as Morrie grows increasingly dependent on his aides and on oxygen. As his death approached,
so does the death of the plant. It is used as a metaphor for Morrie

Analysis Of Theodore Roethke Root Cellar
In Theodore Roethke Root Cellar , there is a heavy use of vivid and stylistic imagery. In the first
line, the speaker states, Nothing would sleep in that cellar, dank as a ditch. We are given that
something is refusing to sleep that is, to die and at the same time being dank gets us thinking
about things that are undead . In line two, the speaker states, Bulbs broke out of boxes hunting
for chinks in the dark. This tells us that things are still growing and they are looking for the light.
In the next following line the speaker mentions, Shoots dangled and dropped (3). This gives us
the image of the shoots coming out of the bulbs. The shoots dangle and droop towards whatever
light possible. In line four, the speaker gives us an idea of the type of housing they are in,
mildewed crates. The moisture creates mold and mildew. It also creates prettier life like plants.
As you can see, mold and mildew are life, and they grow alongside the plants. In line six, the
speaker brings us a smell by saying congress. Roethke must mean just the coming together or
gathering of smells. In line seven, the speaker give us another sense of smell, Roots ripe as old
bait, pulpy stems, rank, silo rich, leaf mold, manure, lime, piled against slippery planks. He gives
us this image and the sense of smell of mold and rot to show it is still life. These words for
example would be ripe, pulpy, rank, and rich. The last two lines, Nothing would give up life: Even

Bruce Dawe is one of the most inspirational and truthful poets of our time. Born in 1930, in
Geelong, most of Dawe s poetry concerns the common person his poems are a recollection on the
world and issues around him. The statement The poet s role is to challenge the world they see

Children are innocent until we pollute their minds with the filth of society is what Dawe is
saying. Owen describes the sky as Littered with stars , ironically, as the stars are pure and not
soiled with the filth of mankind. Thus by saying the sky is littered with stars, he is taking the
point of view of society the fact that they would want to bring order and conformity to
everything. These stars are scattered across the sky in an unorderly fashion, and no one had got
around to fixing [them] up yet . He is highlighting that society takes beautiful, unadulterated
natural things and pollutes them with their rules and regulations. Moving from childhood to the
middle ages in but a few lines, highlighting that it s not worth mentioning the rest of his
childhood, as it was all had too much of a resemblance to what has already been said. There is a
quick and noticeable change of tone as the man is described as a money hungry , back stabbing
and miserable , no longer the image of innocence as he was portrayed in the first 4 stanzas. Not
guarded by adolescence any more, he enters the real world and is instantly polluted with the filth
of society. He says goodbye to the stars their natural splendour no longer interests him, he is now
a part of the materialistic world. He will no longer show any emotion, and he is now realistic , in
other words, fake. The following dialogue is a symbol of the man s beliefs, what he has been

Analysis Of Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
Women have never been considered equal to men. They have not been since the beginning and
although we say they are now, many would probably disagree. Charlotte BrontГ« was no exception
to this rule she knew that society expected women to fit into a specific category rather than be their
own individuals and she expressed her frustration towards this in Jane Eyre. Within this brief
passage, Charlotte BrontГ« elegantly employs symbolism, allusions, and diction in order to assert
Jane s determination to stay true to herself, despite the pressures exerted on her by society.
To be honest, the amount of symbolism within the passage is actually quite minor in
comparison to the rest of the novel, where it can be found in scores. However, the particular
symbol BrontГ« uses is a part of her rather prevalent symbolic pair of fire and ice. BrontГ« has
the tendency to link Jane to these two elements, subtly revealing the sharpness of the two
contrasting boxes the world demands Jane to fit herself in: religion and secularity. Society
views religious women as cold and devoted to labor, loving only towards God. On the other
hand, more secular women are viewed as wild and passionate, although they walk a thin line
between madness and sanity. To this end, examine the very example of the fire in Jane that the
passage provides: They have a worth so I have always believed; and if I cannot believe it now, it is
because I am insane quite insane: with my veins running fire, and my heart beating

Karl Marx Conflict Theory
The drug epidemic, in all aspects, is an issue that affects each one of us in one way or another.
According to the FBI s Uniform Crime Report, (2016), drug arrests increased last year to 1.57
million, a jump of 5.63 percent over 2015. Even though illegal drug trade is common in all
social classes, the conflict theorist would suggest that minority groups would be more likely
pursued for drug violations than the dominant class. Conflict theorist belief that crime is caused
by social and economic forces operating within society. Human behavior is influenced by conflict
between various groups in society. Society then battle for control of financial and social resources
and power. The ones who wind up controlling the larger part of these assets apply their control
over others with the use of inequality causing social conflict over the struggle of power. This way
of thinking is derived from Karl Marxs, who considered society to be split into two social classes
competing for the same social and financial status. This paper will discuss Karl Marx, The
Conflict Theory and I will apply the Conflict Theory to a TV show, The Wire.
The conflict theory originated in the works of Karl Marx. Karl Marx was a Germany
philosopher born in 1818. Marx was a descended of rabbis on both sides of his family. Both his
father and brother were rabbis until his father, under pressure, converted to Christianity to keep his
job as a lawyer in Germany. Marx s Jewish background caused him to

How Is King Arthur Real
Throughout the centuries King Arthur s story has continued to develop through speculation,
conjecture, and evidence; however, much of this has long been contested. Few people argue he
exists for lack of evidence and an abundance of mystery. The majority of Arthurian enthusiasts
believe he never existed or was a character created by combining the best traits of heroes at the
time. Some just do not care, these people get from Arthur inspiration and courage, whether he
was real or not. In most cases King Arthur being real would just be icing on the cake. Such a
discovery would be life changing not only would it put to rest all the controversy that has
perplexed people for centuries, but it would also bestow credibility where it is due. On the... Show

The Britons on the other hand find Bran to be fact and know him as BrГўn the Blessed and a hero.
Bran in this case is not Artuir s brother, but his brother in law. As there is only a correlation of
names no conclusion can be made on who was and was not there. There is one popular belief
that King Arthur was one individual or the product of the combination of several people. There s
little hard evidence on who Arthur could have been based off of: for the most part it is
speculation. The Real King Arthur is an article on a website called lordsandladies.org that is
strictly used for educational purposes. In this article four historical figures are presented as being
inspiration for Arthur, the first runner up is Magnus Clemens Maximus. Maximus was a Celt and
general who became the nephew of the Welsh King Coel Godhebog through marriage. Maximus s
base was Carmarthen or Caernarvon. Another article from The History Files confirms that King
Godhebog was indeed Maximus s uncle through marriage. There is one flaw in this conclusion and
that is due to Monmouths The History of the Kings of Britain which states that Maximus was of
Imperial descent and that Constantius was his ancestor. Maximus s dad was Maximianus who was

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Smokeless Chulha
In house women s activities invariably revolve around the kitchen stove into the house and any
improvement in the design of the traditional chulha (stove) will help in reducing the fuel intake and

cow dung, clay, soil, chimney pipe and net iron plate. (Naeher et al., 2007; Smith, 2006; WHO,

Smokeless chulha are commonly used for the heating food and cooking in developing countries in
the developing countries.
Global Scenario
Developing countries mostly consume significantly less energy than the developed nations,
however, they used 50% of energy is for the cooking food. The average rural family mostly
spends 30% or more of their income on purchasing charcoal and wood for cooking. Most of the
urban poor people mostly live in a slum area also frequently spend a significant portion of their
income on the purchase of wood or charcoal. (W.H.O 2006)
Cooking on an open fire can cause increased health problems brought on from the smoke,
particularly lung and eye aliments, but also birth defects. Replacing the traditional chulha with an
improved one and venting the harmful smoke out of the house through ventilation can significantly
well improve a family s health.
Erosion and deforestation are the result from harvesting wood for cooking fuel. The most
important goal of most improved cooking stoves (chulha) is to reduce the pressure placed on local
forests by reducing the amounts of stoves

Pride And Corronment In Beowulf And Lanval
Pride is a trait everyone poses, but is having pride and being boastful a double edge sword? Pride
and boasting are something that appears in many different characters with different manifestations
through literature. In Beowulf and Lanval , the pride and boastfulness are demonstrated as both a
strength and weakness. Having the pride to boast caused many issues for Beowulf, Lanval and the
Queen Guinevere.
Beowulf starts boasting as soon as he is introduced to the King Hrothgar. Beowulf tells him, ...
every elder and experience councilman / among my people supported my resolve / to come here
to you, King Hrothgar / because all knew of my awesome strength (Beowulf 415 18). His
boasting grants him an opportunity to battle Grendel. Later on, after he actually fights Grendel
he proudly hangs Grendel s arm in the wall to prove just how great he is. Clear proof of this
Could be seen in the hand the hero displayed High up near the roof: the whole of Grendel s
Shoulder and arm, his awesome grasp (Beowulf 832 35), this is an example of symbolic
boasting because it represents one of his greatest accomplishments. Beowulf makes many boast,
time after time he boast about all his glories. He slowly starts to get more and more prideful till
his very end. The Queen Guinevere s pride was wounded when she gets rejected by Lanval.
Queen Guinevere offers herself to Lanval saying he could have anything he desires. Lanval rejects
her by telling her he won t betray his king and that he

Sex Workers and Violence Essay
It is self evident that financial reasons for sex work are most prominent. Surprisingly near to
40% indicate that they like this kind of work. About one third of the women are offering sex
services for altruistic reasons, as they want to help. Thus, sex work obviously also serves very
personal reasons; sex work can enhance self esteem, allow the person to be their own master give a
feeling of power (pg. 149).
In a study performed by Koken (2012), the researcher approaches prostitution as a form of paid
labor that women may choose to engage in under circumstances ranging from the luxurious to the
destitute. Results from the study showed that women articulated feelings of pride about their work,
their body, and their ability to use sex work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this stigmatization from the police, community and law system, sex workers know
they will receive no protection from the police and must therefore take their safety into their
own hands. Either by accepting the risks and going out on the streets anyway, or by carrying a
weapon, like mace or a knife, and possibly facing charges if the weapon were discovered by the
police. In other parts of the world, where prostitution is legal, sex workers face less violence and
therefore feel less fear about working in their industry. Apparently, there is evidence that some
systems of legalization provide a relatively safe working environment. Although no system is risk
free, women working in legal brothels and window units in the Netherlands experience very little
violence. Workers and managers have instituted elaborate procedures to respond to violent
customers quickly and effectively, in Nevada s legal brothels, the risk of violence is very low
(ProCon.org, 2013)
So, when prostitution is legalized, controlled and, more importantly, monitored, it becomes less of
a risk for workers in that industry. Managers and sex workers themselves are able to develop
security measures and systems, which allow them to receive help should a

The Company President Of Peregrine Trucking
The company President of Peregrine Trucking has decided to make saving fuel, a primary focus on
the continuous efforts to become leaner and more efficient. Any type of fuel savings will have a
direct impact to the bottom line of profitability. This additional income can be better utilized
towards additional investments that will lead to sustainability and the goal of having a green supply
chain. Strict government regulations, customer requirements, pressure from environmentalists, and
requests by the general public have made being conscientious of creating an eco friendly business
necessary. Several key process improvements and equipment upgrades have been identified that
will assist Peregrine Trucking in reaching the goal of continuous improvement on fuel savings.
These investments will not only impact fuel, but other added benefits will be realized as well. The
speed of service will be improved in addition to betterfocus on customer service and more reliable
equipment. The following proposed ideas are strongly suggested to obtain the desired outcome of
fuel savings: phase out the current trucks in use to more modern fuel efficient models, improve
upon the plan for scheduled maintenance, implement maximum allowable speed limits by installing
limiting devices, invest in new technology to better utilize the fleet and reduce the amount of
wasted time and space, and changing company policy in regards to rules and employee training.

  • 2. Analysis Of The Book The Chronicles Of Narnia Clive Staples Lewis, a British novelist, poet, academic, and Christian apologist managed to transcend cultural boundaries with his fictional literary book series, The Chronicles of Narnia. The book series is regarded as a classic of children s literature and is Lewis s best known work, having sold over 100 million copies in 47 languages. The books were written around 1950 and have been adapted through several mediums, including film. In particular, the film creation of the first of the seven books, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, made in 2005, presents a problematic dynamic of gender, genre, and religion. The Chronicles of Narniabook series is meant to portray the Christian morality throughout the book series. Therefore, whatever is presented about gender holds merit regarding how the Christian worldview sees gender. Within The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, a particular scene with a man named Father Christmas provides a clear view as to how gender is seen in the series. In this scene, Father Christmas meets the four main characters of the film, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy who are all siblings. Before the children engage in the beginning of a nasty war, Father Christmas provides exclusively gender specific gifts to the children. The oldest boy, Peter, receives a sword while his slightly younger sister Susan, receives a horn to simply, call for help, and a bow and arrow that is not meant to be used in battle. The second boy Edmund also receives a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both pieces, Impression, Sunrise by Monet and Summer s Day by Morisot, fulfill what Degas was getting at. The painting by Claude Monet was a made in 1872 with oil on a rectangle canvas that was nineteen inches by twenty four and three eighths. The piece is a view of the sunrising in the harbor of Le Havre, France which was Monet s hometown. It contains the sky and the reflection of it in the water with small boats containing a few individuals in the foreground of the painting. In the background, there are larger, more industrial ships that are not very defined; they almost blend into the colors of the rising sky. Monet s work uses vivid colors of blues and oranges ... • 6. Resinsof Bakelite Bakelite s molding process had a number of advantages. Bakelite resin could be provided either as powder or as preformed partially cured slugs thus increasing the speed of the casting. Thermosetting resinsof Bakelite though require heat and pressure during the molding cycle, but without being cooled it could be removed from the molding process, hence the molding process becomes faster [36]. Because of the smooth polished surface that is obtained, Bakelite objects required less finishing. Bakelite can be molded very quickly thus it is good for mass production of identical units. Moldings are smooth, retain their shape and are resistant to heat, scratches and destructive solvents. Phenolic resin products may swell slightly under conditions of extreme humidity or... Applications and Uses Bakelite is much suited as a molding compound, an adhesive or binding agent, a varnish, and as a protective coating. Bakelite is particularly suitable for the emerging electrical and automobile industries because of its very high resistance to heat, chemical action and electricity. During World War I, Bakelite was widely used for machine parts, particularly electrical systems. Important projects included the Liberty Motor, the wireless telephone and radio phone. Bakelite s availability, ease and speed of molding helped to lower the costs of production and increased product availability so that both telephones and radios became common household consumer goods. During World War II, Bakelite was used in a variety of wartime equipment including pilot s goggles and field telephones. In 1943, the thermosetting phenolic resin was even considered for the manufacture of coins, due to a shortage of traditional material. Phenolic resins have been commonly used in ablative heat shields. Soviet heat shields for ICBM warheads and spacecraft re entry consisted of asbestos textolite, impregnated with Bakelite [38].Mounting of metal samples in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The sexismin Stockett s book is brought forth indirectly. Stockett uses two of her main protagonists as an example on how sexism affects women and the roles they are supposed to play. Comparing today s society to the society in The Help, jobs were only offered to women who fit the look of a petite, feminine woman and nowadays people are hired for the amount of experience they had. Skeeter is looking for a job she encounters a, squat, single column under HELP WANTED: FEMALE (Stockett 68), in the daily paper implying there is a limit of jobs that women can work. Most of them happened to be secretary positions. This is not only hurtful to women who do not fit the conventional stereotype of a woman, but to women who want to change their world even if it means baby steps. Men are always offered, at least four columns filled with bank managers, accountants, loan officers, cotton collate operators. On this page, Percy Gray, LP, is offering Jr. Stenographers fifty more cents an hour (Stockett 69), additionally adding to the notion that men have more job opportunities and make more money. The way that sexism plays its role in society make it seem like there is no way of overcoming this obstacle faced by women. The Rosewood s were a company that produced the highest quality sweets in all of England, but for decent prices, however this was how they stayed in business for nearly a decade but they were outdone by the Jeffries that started to make the same quality of candies for even less money. That was the true downfall of the Rosewood chocolate industry. With the fall of the company, cash began to dwindle and their normally weighted wallets began to get lighter and lighter. While some modern scholars question whether the Apostle Peter was ever in Rome, he is certainly the most celebrated Apostle of the city. A simple example of this is that the largest basilica in Rome (and one of the largest in the world) is named in honor of Saint Peter. The Apostle Pauls existence in Rome is less disputed and even though he is less commemorated nearly two millennia later. • 20. Sororities Vs Cults Essay Conditional Unconditional Love. Cults and Sororities. The collective congregation of others to meet or attain a certain goal is the same for all social creatures. Two predominant groups showcase this ideology quite well, these two being cults and sororities. Cults are a group of people who worship a figure or object to levels that could be called devotion, and sororities are a group of people who come together in a university or college for social purposes. These groups share many types of physiological tactics to cancel out personal autonomy and to promote unity and a sense of acceptance and belonging. While they have traits in common there are also clear differences in each established collection. A positive light is shined more on sororities due to their benefits to one s experience in college, while cults have a more negative connotation due to their extreme devotion and loss of one s personal power. Each in their own right gives a service that we re subconsciously susceptible to, the need and desire to belong. In the text The Odyssey, people have argued whether or not the main character, Odysseus, is a hero. I think that Odysseus is a modern hero because he is loyal, smart, and he is brave. One way that Odysseus fits the mold of a modern hero is how he is loyal. He was loyal because he always tried to keep his men safe. In the story The Lotus Eaters while they were on the Land of the Lotus Eaters, he made sure all of his men were on the ship so none of them were left behind. He also made sure none of the men on Island of Thrinacia ate Helios cattle. This made him loyal because loyal people always have their friends backs. There are numerous routes to research a subject, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. For this essay I am going to focus on four methods; internet, text books, television and professional journals. In modern society a common research tool used is the internet, one if its key advantages is its accessibility. Most people have access to the internet throughout the day and night; at home, on the move via mobile phones and tablets, education premises, workplace and public libraries, this creates flexibility and allows people to research information at a time and place convenient to them. Another strength is the details necessary for referencing the source are clearly presented. Some disadvantages of using text books are the physical and financial barriers to accessing them. Copies available in libraries may be limited and the time needed to visit a library could be restricted by an individual s personal commitments. To purchase a text book can be expensive and often difficult to source locally. In addition, written sources can become outdated, e.g. new theories and discoveries could be made which consequently make the content inaccurate or irrelevant. Television and radio as a research tool can be a welcome alternative to reading. The benefits being that information displayed in a visual or audio format can in some instances be understood better than on paper, presented in an engaging manner making it more interesting and holding the viewers attention. In addition, radio/podcasts can be listened to whilst additional tasks are completed, e.g. driving, walking the dog. Poaching is a growing activity in Africaand it is dangerously depleting animal populations. Poaching is defined as the illegal killing of endangered and/or protected animals and could also be considered hurting animals that are on protected land (Pedersen). If poaching is continued, years of conservation and development would have been for nothing. For years, groups have put work and money into keeping animals safe. Many people turn to poaching as an activity because it s a quick way to make a lot of money as tusks of a single adult elephant can be worth more than ten times the average annual income in many African countries . Rhino poaching rates were up 1000% at the beginning of the decade and is continuing to grow quickly ( The African Poaching Crisis ). Many, many animals and people are affected by this poaching. The Southern states were fighting for their way of life, and the Northern states were fighting to preserve the Union. The war had begun in the year of 1861, and it would end in 1865 with the capture of Jefferson Davis and surrender of Robert E. Lee. The war had begun at the battle of Fort Sumter. After this battle, the newly elected Abraham Lincoln called for volunteers to join the Union forces. In 1862, Union and Confederate forces would meet again at the battle of Fort Henry and Donelson. With the Union succeeding at pushing the Confederate forces further back into the South, General Grant and his army made their way down the TennesseeRiver. The forces would meet again at the Battle of Shiloh and Pittsburg Landing. There have been many arguments supporting the theory that the Confederacy did in fact win at the Battle of Shiloh. Although the Union lost more troops at this battle, the Confederacy failed in many ways. In order to determine how exactly they failed, it is important to study what the goal of the Confederacy was at Shiloh and whether or not they accomplished this goal. • 37. Analysis Of I Taught Myself To Live Simply By Anna Akhmatova In the Russian Revolution period, where censorship, famine and restrictions limited most forms of expression, Anna Akhmatova s plight was captured by her poetry. In her poetry, she skillfully weaves poetic devices throughout. Her arsenal of different poetic devices immerses the reader in her circumstances and while other poetic devices are used, by primarily utilizing imagery, allusions, comparisons, and diction, Akhmatova engrosses the reader into her situations. By appealing to a majority of the senses, Akhmatova utilizes imagery to depict her situations. In I Taught Myself to Live Simply, Anna Akhmatovautilizes visual, auditory and kinesthetic imagery, appealing to the reader s sense of sight, sound and touch. In this poem, the speaker retells how she enjoys the simple life, whether it s enjoying her environment or delineating The fluffy cat [licking] [her] palm, [purring] so sweetly. Although Akhmatova utilized a different language, through the translation it still describes what Akhmatova experiences around her. Akhmatova s usage of onomatopoeia adds sound imagery to her poetry, additionally, the description of the fluffy cat [licking] [her] palm adds visual and tactile imagery to her poetry. These three forms of imagery allow the reader to visualize what Akhmatova sees, hears and feels around her, by doing so, she successfully utilizes imagery to immerse the reader into her situation. Johnson, once said, Romantic love, being the single greatest energy system in the Western psyche, is a tremendous power that attracts. Romantic love is compelling and influential, however it is not the only kind of love. Love comes in many different forms each with their own special bond between the lovers. Some of these different types of loveare friendship, unrequited love, parental love, love of family honor, and romantic love. Many of these distinct types of love are present in William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, a play about two young lovers from feuding families who are destined for doom. For instance, when Romeo drinks the poison to kill himself, he declares, Here s to my love [drinks] O true apothecary./ Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die. (V. iii. 119 120). Romeo s action of killing himself implies that he would rather die than have to live his life being separated from his lover Juliet. Romeo s romantic love for Juliet was so influential that it drove him to kill himself, which no other kind of love had the power or impact to do. When Juliet awoke from her faked death and found Romeo s body, she was devastated and reacted to the death of her love the same way Romeo did, by killing herself. For example, after discovering Romeo s dead body, Juliet comes upon Romeo s dagger and picks it up while stating, This is thy sheath; there rust and let me die. [She stabs herself and falls.] (V. iii. 170). Juliet s action of killing herself is prominent in the story because it establishes the strength of love. Juliet loved Romeo enough to commit suicide, which indicates that the romantic love Juliet had for Romeo was more significant than Juliet s will to live. By the 1940s, the Siberian tiger was driven to the brink of extinction. Only forty tigers remained in the wild at the time. Fortunately, Russia granted the tiger full protection; which made Russia the first country in the world to do so. The population of the Siberian tiger increased to 500 in the 1980s, however, poaching activity increased after the Soviet Union fell. There are only as many as 540 Siberian tigers left in the wild, and although the population is stable, they are still on the brink of extinction. At some point in time, the Siberian tiger population stretched out across the western and Central Asia, and throughout Russia. As of now, Siberian tigers primarily live in eastern Russia, but it s worth noting that a few Siberian tigers live in North Korea and China. • 47. Analysis Of Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre Women have never been considered equal to men. They have not been since the beginning and although we say they are now, many would probably disagree. Charlotte BrontГ« was no exception to this rule she knew that society expected women to fit into a specific category rather than be their own individuals and she expressed her frustration towards this in Jane Eyre. Within this brief passage, Charlotte BrontГ« elegantly employs symbolism, allusions, and diction in order to assert Jane s determination to stay true to herself, despite the pressures exerted on her by society. To be honest, the amount of symbolism within the passage is actually quite minor in comparison to the rest of the novel, where it can be found in scores. However, the particular symbol BrontГ« uses is a part of her rather prevalent symbolic pair of fire and ice. BrontГ« has the tendency to link Jane to these two elements, subtly revealing the sharpness of the two contrasting boxes the world demands Jane to fit herself in: religion and secularity. Society views religious women as cold and devoted to labor, loving only towards God. On the other hand, more secular women are viewed as wild and passionate, although they walk a thin line between madness and sanity. To this end, examine the very example of the fire in Jane that the passage provides: They have a worth so I have always believed; and if I cannot believe it now, it is because I am insane quite insane: with my veins running fire, and my heart beating ... Even though illegal drug trade is common in all social classes, the conflict theorist would suggest that minority groups would be more likely pursued for drug violations than the dominant class. Conflict theorist belief that crime is caused by social and economic forces operating within society. Human behavior is influenced by conflict between various groups in society. Society then battle for control of financial and social resources and power. The ones who wind up controlling the larger part of these assets apply their control over others with the use of inequality causing social conflict over the struggle of power. This way of thinking is derived from Karl Marxs, who considered society to be split into two social classes competing for the same social and financial status.
