Essay about William Wordsworth
William Wordsworth
William Wordsworth was born April 7, 1770, at Cockermouth in Cumberland, England. His poetry,
and especially his poems on solitude, must have been heavily influenced by the death of his mother
and the splitting up of his family when he was only eight (Kilvert 1). At that time, fate sent him to live
in Hawkshead, England, where his teacher started him writing poetry. Wordsworth got his higher
education at Cambridge, his memories of which play a part in his later poetry (Noyes 201). Fate again
stepped in when, as a young man, he received an inheritance, which gave him the freedom to study
literature. One might guess that this is when he first became part of the Romantic movement, (Pinion,
21).

Martha was in love with Stephen, who betrayed her by marrying another woman. Martha was
pregnant by Stephen, and the rumor was that she had murdered her baby. The reader feels all her pain
when she cries, Oh misery! oh misery! Oh woe is me! oh misery! These words express her heartbreak
at losing Stephen; her anguish at finding herself pregnant; her shame at being an unwed mother; her
guilt and regret for murdering her baby; her grief over the baby s death; and her knowledge that her
life is ruined. The thorn is a powerful symbol of all this misery. Just as the thorns, Martha s
appearance makes it seem as if she, too, could never have been young. She, too, is A wretched thing
forlorn. By contrast, what seems to be the infant s grave lies in a beautiful mound of color. Of coarse,
the child is innocent and its beauty is forever filled with color; but Martha s only color is her scarlet
cloak of shame.

Essay on Survival in Auschwitz by Primo Levi
Primo Levi, in his novel Survival in Auschwitz (2008), illustrates the atrocities inflicted upon the
prisoners of the concentration camp by the Schutzstaffel, through dehumanization. Levi describes the
denial of humanness constantly forced upon the prisoners through similes, metaphors, and imagery of
animalistic and mechanistic dehumanization ( Dehumanization ). He makes his readers aware of the
cruel reality in the concentration camp in order to help them examine the psychological effects
dehumanization has not only on those dehumanized, but also on those who dehumanize. He
establishes an earnest and reflective tone with his audience yearning to grasp the reality of genocide.
In Survival in Auschwitz, Primo Levi laments that men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Levi s ability to demonstrate the adversities of their oppression illustrates the dehumanization of the
prisoners. The inmates eat soup while in the camp. When the time comes for them to get their bowls
filled, Levi professes they have an animal hurry to consume their food (Survival 69). This metaphor
suggests the men s animalistic behavior due to their severe thirst and hunger. The concept of
dehumanization carried out by the Schutzstaffel primarily targets the prisoners identity and
community ( Dehumanization ). Each man s struggle to survive in Auschwitz depends on their
principal focus of themselves. They can no longer elicit compassion or other moral responses , every
man endures on his own, and they cannot think of others. Ironically, waiting around to pass time
satisfies the inmates; [they] are always happy to wait (Survival 104). Levi rationalizes their content
when Alex tells them to wait and says they have the complete obtuse inertia of spiders in old webs
(Survival 104). He compares his Kommando to spiders, as they sit lifelessly, trapped in an abandoned
labyrinth. The action of waiting brings the men solace, for once, as time moves smoothly and they
have no duties to complete (Survival 104). Throughout the novel, Levi also provides imagery of the
animalistic form of dehumanization through his diction. As the men eat in their bunks, Levi states that
David snarls (Survival 75). The action or sound of snarling is typically given

Summer Camp Descriptive Essay
Summer Camp The bus decelerated to a stop and we were there, Crystal Lake. I wasn t there willingly,
but my parents made me go with my cousin, Sandra. They said that this would help bring me closer to
God, but I think they just needed a break from me. I ve always detested summer camp, especially the
ones from church. The kids from there are always so annoying, and I m forced to put up with them for
a whole week. When we got to the camp, it was about 5:30. The group leaders assigned our cabins,
which consisted of four bunk beds, two dressers, and a small couch. After that, we all went on a hike
and came back for dinner. I was exhausted, and honestly, I was already over it. After, everyone
showered and got settled into their cabins. All ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sun was setting, and the lake sparkled under the remaining sunlight, reflecting the sky s pink and

when i saw it. There, on the other side of the lake stood the strange woman, staring directly at me.
Are you alright? inquired Sandra. I froze. I didn t know what to tell her. I debated whether or not I
should say something. I stayed quiet for a moment, then, I finally answered her.
Yeah, I m fine why? I replied. Sandra tilted her head and looked at me for a moment.
You seem a little...off. Are you sure you re alright? she asked, once again.
Mhm, I m fine, I told her. She looked at me for a moment then just nodded. I wasn t fine though, I felt
uneasy. When it got later, we went to our cabin, and once again, the girls stayed up talking while I
listened to my music. I turned up the volume all the way and tried, unsuccessfully to get the thought
out of my mind. I wasn t sure why she was there, or if she was even a threat, but the way she just
stood there staring at me creeped me out. The thought kept poking at me so out of curiosity, I went up
to the window and opened the curtains. I examined the forest and searched to see if the woman was
there. I was determined to find her, but she wasn t there. I went back to my bed, but I couldn t fall
asleep. The bed was too hard, the pillow was too soft, the blanket was too thick, but that

Garcinia Cambogia
Garcinia cambogia extract is a weight loss pill that was advertised by Dr. Oz during a segment on his
daytime talk show. Dr. Oz introduced the product using persuasive language to provoke viewer
interest, claiming the pill is the magic ingredient to lose weight without diet or exercise. He explained
that garcinia cambogia extract is found in the rind of tamarind fruit from Southeast Asia and that the
fruit is known to have medicinal benefits. Dr. Oz stated that garcinia cambogia may have more
promise than other weight loss products because it reduces body fat and suppresses appetite. The
active ingredient found in garcinia cambogia, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), aids to block an enzyme
which makes fat. HCA also increases the release of the hormone serotonin, which reduces the craving
for food. Additionally, garcinia cambogia can decrease total cholesterol and triglycerides, with
potential improvement in leptin and insulin resistance in the obese. The product was advertised during
the segment to target women who are seeking an easy alternative to lose weight fast. This is apparent
as the majority of the studio audience is composed of middle aged women who represent the intended
population. By allowing the audience to ask questions that Dr. Oz answers on the spot, viewers are left
with more confidence in the product. Dr. Oz specifically manipulates his language with the objective
to entice women, referring to weight loss as a decrease in dress size. Dr. Oz conveys a sense of

Kosovar Independence Forty five percent of Kosovo s population is in poverty, according to the World
Fact Bank. Kosovo is a self declared independent country in the South Balkans in Europe, it wants
independence, but Serbia believes that it is an autonomous province of Serbia. It declared
independence in 2008 and there are a lot of reasons why, but there are also some reasons why it should
be part of Serbia. Kosovo should be independent because Serbians have committed genocide against
ethnic Kosovar Albanians, other countries have broke free from Serbia, thus Kosovo should be able to

And the UN is just that, an organization of nations. In the UN, there is a security council made up of 5
countries, also know as the Big Five , which are Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom, and the
United States. The Big Five are split on the issue, with Russia and China saying no to their
independence, and the US, UK, and France say yes to the issue. China and Russia believe that Kosovo
should become independent. One reason is that Serbia has been protected by Russia since WWI when
it helped it gain independence. Russia and China are allies, so China agrees with Russia on the issue.
On the other side, the US, UK, and France are all in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO),
so they generally agree with each other, as well as the rest of NATO. Supporters of Serbian integration
of Kosovo believe that Kosovo should not become independent because it might start wars, but,
because there is a scenario that is well know, know as MAD, or Mutually Assured Destruction

African American Caricatures
The technology boom of the industrial era created a surge of new media people could consume. Music
was being created along with moving pictures and new types of theaters. Caricatures of minorities
were created not to accurately represent the people and their lives, but to paint an image in the public s
eye of a lesser human. The masses at the time and even now would argue that these people these
caricatures were based of real people and experiences but first hand accounts from the community beg
to differ. People from oppressed communities were being portrayed as animals, fools, and sexual
heathen to degrade their worth and make the fight for equality harder Popular caricatures of the
African American community helped keep what white supremacist would call racial balance. During
the time of the civil war, tensions were high when people started to get the idea that slaves did not like
being slaves. To combat this the uncle and the Mammy caricatures were created. They were depicted
as older slaves that enjoyed working under their master (Riggs). This new concept helped white
people conform to the idea of slavery because of the need it implied on the white community to
control slaves. After northern states began to make slavery illegal, they no longer needed docile
characters to play a part in the segregation of the races. Instead new characters were created to fit their
agenda To combat the growing presence of black men in the northern middle class the Zip coon was
created

Childhood Abuse In Eveline
James Joyce s short story Eveline is set in Dublin, Ireland during the turn of the 20th century. The
suffering was of the Irish was immense during this time in history, due to the struggle of against the
English occupation of Ireland. An observation made about Dublin during the early 1900 s was that the
Irish capital is paralysed by Catholicism, by the English imperialism, by grave poverty and social
injustice (Boyson). Ireland was still reeling from the famine the occurred fifty years earlier. The great
potato famine as it s called, led to mass migration, starvation, and disease. Joyce incorporates this
heavy darkness, weariness, and resignation into his story about Eveline. In his short story Joyce

the target of her father s abuse. The narrator comments her father begun to threaten her and say what
he would do to her (Joyce). At only 19 years old, Eveline was alone to deal with her father s frequent

We need to understand that lives were lost at San Bernardino and there are bad people in the society,
who continually try to disturb the peace and harmony in the society, negatively impacting the

the society cannot be a safe place for all of us to live and prosper. So Apple should help in unlocking

development activities because they are able to operate fearlessly in the country. This fearless mode is

Danny DeVito could do anything, including taking up the roles of some truly iconic movies. Instead of

get the most out of every dollar spent. Consequently, we will be comparing the their financial
performance from 2007 2009. From the beginning, Walgreens has yielded a better gross profit by an
average of 8% over CVS/Pharmacy. Gross profit is the amount left over after cost of goods sold is
taken from revenue. Although, both have been steady with their percentage gross profit,
CVS/Pharmacy 21% amp; Walgreens 28%, Walgreens has gained more. However, Walgreens
celebration is short lived because the balance statement is more than gross profit. In fact the 8% edge
in gross profit they gave back in operating expenses. Walgreens operating expenses took, on average,
22.5% away from their total revenue. CVS/Pharmacy operating expenses took only 14.5% away from
their total revenue. Moreover, other indicators of return on investment to the company are higher for
CVS/Pharmacy than Walgreens. CVS/Pharmacy has had a higher operating income than Walgreens
since 2007. For the last two years CVS/Pharmacy has posted higher income before taxes than

Psychiatric Inpatient Treatment Of Depression Essay
INTRODUCTION According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 8% of persons over
the age of twelve reports being currently depressed, this includes 6% of the male population (2014).
This literature also reports males aged forty to fifty nine having higher rates of depression (7%), when
compared to males sixty years or older (5%) (2014). In 2010 there were 63.3 million visits to primary
care physicians, hospital outpatient units and emergency rooms attributed to mental health diagnosis
(CDC, 2014). In the same year, there were 395,000 psychiatric inpatient discharges with major
depressive disorder as the primary diagnosis. These individuals had an average stay of six and a half
days (CDC, 2014). Inpatient and outpatient treatment is seemingly a revolving door. One article
examines the growing number of people being diagnosed with depression, yet the declining number of
people seeking outpatient care. This article reports 2.88 out of 100 people seek outpatient treatment
for their depression (ScienceDaily, 2010). It is imperative for practitioners of group practice to
understand that men and women experience depression differently and to then formulate treatment
based on the individual s unique needs (NIH, 2014). INPATIENT GROUP THERAPY Psychiatric
inpatient group therapy is not a new concept, having presence in inpatient culture for over eighty
years. Inpatient group therapy has many unique purposes. For example, there are several group
treatment goals. These

Robert Russa Moton High School
In Virginia, it was very hard for a black student to receive a diploma because of the lack of education
they received in their schools. Unless they attended a private school, which black children seldom did,
they did not receive the same education as white students. Robert Russa Moton High School was one
of the first and only schools for blacks in Prince Edward County (Heinemann). This school was built
in 1939 to hold 180 students, and it lacked in many common things one may find at a white high
school, like a gymnasium, cafeteria, science labs, and sports fields (Heinemann). About ten years later,
because the number of students grew from 180 to 400, they built small buildings made of plywood
and tarpaper instead of building a new school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Barbara Johns, a junior at Morton High, was very unhappy with the condition of the school. She was
the niece of Vernon Johns, a pastor and outspoken civil rights activist (June Friesen). On April 23,
1951, the principle of Morton High, M. Boyd Jones, was lured off campus by a call saying students
from Moton were hanging around the bus station instead of being at school. This was the perfect
opportunity for Johns to take action and put her idea of going on strike into action. Johns called an
assembly where she explained to the student body what was wrong with the condition of their school
and the classmates support overwhelmed her. For the rest of the day, the students layered the school
inside and out with signs saying things like, We want a new school or none at all or Down with the tar
paper shacks (Heinemann). The next day Johns as well as a couple other students went to the
Farmville Courthouse where superintendent T.J. Mcllwaine told them nothing would happen if they
did not return to class. The students however did not return to class until May 7. Spottswood Robinson

but you know there are other solutions to your situation then marriage. I can tell you that from
experience. I turned 18 in May. Three months later I married the man I thought was my true love and
the person I was going to spend my whole life with. One month after our second wedding anniversary,
I separated from him and within six months we were divorced. Before I got married I believe that this
would never happen to me, but it did and I became a teenage marriage statistic. If I could go back to
being eighteen again and walk into the courthouse to get married without any of our family and
friends there, I would not do it! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She persuaded herself that party time was over and that she should start her adult life. Within three
years she was divorced. Children having children is still not an argument for marriage. Ones mind and
spirit can not be commanded to obey to the situation. Forcing oneself into marriage justified by
pregnancy will definitely end unhappily, as the child is still unable to make people live together if they
are lacking love. Finally, the initial affection can easily fade away. At the beginning of their relations
the young people are often said to be unable to live without their second part. Jake and Glen were
married when he was 19 and she was in her 17. They
loved each other and the couple was brilliant. No one could say that in half a year they would be
divorced. Having little life experience they were likely to think this was love at first sight. Being
confident they had found their better half they were married. However, with time the passion
disappeared, the mystery turned into routine, the aspiration to be together was replaced by the
tiredness from cohabitation and the desire to be alone had grown. In such circumstances the spouses
seek for joy and satisfaction away from home and prefer the company of friends to that of the husband
or wife. Teenage marriages are likely to end unhappily because the young people are in their initial
stage of life. They are still not fully developed persons, unwilling to obey circumstances,

It Is A Water Purification System
It is a hot 92 degrees fahrenheit, blistering sunny day the small communities of Amaya, Torencio, and
El Porvenir in Nicaragua. The dress code for guys: long pants, closed toed shoes, t shirt with sleeves,
and hats optional. The dress code for girls: pants or capris, closed toed shoes, crew neck shirts with
sleeves, and no tight fitting articles of clothing would be allowed. In the communities tasks of digging
a trench, installing a water purification system, home visits, and of course playing with the kids were
handed out. Work in the morning and play in the afternoon. Then the team boarded two small
buses/vans, and returned to a fairly nice hotel with a pool and dinner awaiting. Then the nightly team
debriefs and bed shortly after to do it again. Then before you know it you are standing there
surrounded by shouting kids, many hugs, the phrase adios said between the sniffles of runny noses and
tear streamed faces. Hundreds of pictures are being taken to add to the thousands from the week all in
hopes of getting that one picture or a few memorable moments that will be on the picture slideshow.
Then returning home is exhausting as is trying to sleep during the layovers and rediscovering
American food which you had a week ago but it feels as if it has been weeks. The questions that are
always asked are: what did you do? what did you learn? how did you see God? The response
frequently begins with the pronoun I and a comparison of the different situations begins either in

Araby And Eveline Research Paper
James Joyce s Dubliners is an array of different short stories. Eveline and Araby are two of Joyce s
short stories that are widely appreciated for their literary values. These two short stories, Eveline and
Araby , are very similar in how both narrators seem to be in love with what characters that seem to be
somewhat distant. Eveline and Araby are also similar due to their failed attempts at love, and the
romantic illusions they have trapped themselves in. They are not entirely similar however due to the
fact that the boy in Araby understood he caused his own undoing, whereas in Eveline , she did not
blame herself. Also, the author, James Joyce notes that both protagonists in these stories live in a
brown house. The are also different because of the perspective each short story is written in. Araby is

Written in first person from the perspective of a young boy, Araby doesn t have quite the impact that it
s counterpart, Eveline has. Eveline however, is written from a third person perspective from an older
protagonist that deal with issue that are a bit more serious. In Eveline the protagonist is afraid to run
away from the past. Joyce expresses this well through his final two sentences of the story She set her
white face to him, passive, like a helpless animal. Her eyes gave him no sign of love or farewell or
recognition. This excerpt expresses the protagonists feelings when she is committed to not getting on
the boat. This scene exemplifies a moment in which the protagonist seems to be in a slight shock as if
the world around her is standing still. In Eveline the protagonist chooses to live with her pleasant
memories of her old family she grew up with instead of unbounding herself from her currently abusive
father, and running away to start a family of her

Film Components in The Matrix
Soon after, Neo the hacker, is questioning the truth of this entire world, which is seemed to be normal.
And, he meets Trinity, an other hacker. The leader of the Nebuchadnezzar, Morpheus tells him the
actual real world is controlled by a computer artificial intelligence system called The Matrix , humans
are only like animals raised by them without any freedom and thoughts. And, Neo is the only savior
who can rescue the humans. However, the road to salvation can never be smoothed, so where will the

For set design, the next aspect of meaning in a film is the design of the sets. The color, shape and
angles of a set can be a very important way of communicating, not only meanings, but also emotional
or psychological states of mind to the viewer. In the matrix everything is filled with green, it seems
like the camera is also covered with a green tinted lens. This can then divide a clear vision difference
for the audiences between the actual real world and the matrix. In fact, the actual real world is linked
with the matrix and in some ways they relate with connection. The matrix, for some reason is evil to
the human. Therefore, when things become evil, the color of green is also involving inside as green
itself is representing the matrix. When Smith is trying to kill Neo, there are green flames surrounding
around them. However, green the actual meaning in psychology refers to safety, health, nature and
life. This suggests that if the machines are neither evil nor self indulgent, the one who carry out the
program are Merovingian and Smith. Green therefore, its meaning in here is seen as virtual as it is
different from the original meaning, but the color of it is seen as real.
For costumes that characters wear very often reveal aspects of their personality and be used to guide
our opinions of the people in the film. In the matrix, Trinity wears a black

has been able to reduce the percentage of sales devoted to selling, general and administrative costs
from 19.08% to 18.94%. This was a driver that led to a bottom line growth from $15.7B USD to
$17.0B USD ( Wal mart Stores Inc., 2013).
WALMART s IMPLEMENTATION OF RFID TAGS 5
Another important fact is supplier involvement with RFID implementation. Walmart s top 300
suppliers are required to put the tags on products, if they want to conduct business at Walmart. The
average cost per tag is less than 20 cents. Supplier s using the tag s benefit by communicating
immediate information to the retailer and product manufactures giving Walmart the competitive
leverage in retail industry by inventory control. RFID implementation benefits the entire logistics
operation and supply chain management.
Walmart IT Infrastructure
As the dominant retailer with sales totaling $264 billion in 2012 with a 2.2 % increase from the

District 9 Movie Analysis
District 9 (Peter Jackson, 2009), a science fiction film produced by Peter Jackson, is a rare gem unlike
the many sci fi movies which have been released in our time. The story is established via a mix of
standard third person camera and documentary footage and takes place in the present a twist from
your regular science fiction film which normally takes place in the future. The film, about a colony of
alien refugees forced by humans to live in a South African slum, is an example of social satire by
presenting a critique of the injustice with which we treat those who are different from us. The
metaphors of science fiction are being used to portray the nature of racism; with the way that racist
ideology and discourse deals with those different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This scene is indescribably chaotic. While operating alien weaponry, Wikis is leading Christopher
back to the mothership by protecting him through killing of any humans in their way. Wikus is the film
s hero.
The end of the film leaves us with questions unanswered. We dont know if Wikus will ever find his
way back to his old life as a human among other humans. The last scene shows Wikus fully
transformed into an alien, building a flower out of scrap metal. Is Wikus more at home now than he
has ever been as a human?
In producing District 9, Jackson s intention was to address racism as an ideology by forcing the
viewers to be the racist. At the beginning of the film, when we are introduced to the aliens that reside
in District 9, we immediately despise them. The Prawns themselves exhibit human like characteristics
(ie. two arms, two legs, stand up right) but also exhibit grotesque characteristics. The aliens are filthy,
violent and vulgar as we catch them consistently using foul language. They live in a slum that is
decaying, crumbling and full of garbage, not by choice, but forced by humans. The aliens are
ostracized and barred from most businesses and those humans who live in near proximity to the aliens
want more distance. They are the enemy. We are also introduced to the Nigerians who barter with the
Prawns for weaponry in exchange for cat food. The Nigerians have a witch doctor who advises them
to eat the aliens, which they do. We also learn

advantages and disadvantages. One of the downsides to third party logistics is that some form of
control can be loss when companies entrust vital documents or information of their business to others.
Saying that there is an upside to using third party logistics. The organization shipping the product can
benefit from the expertise and the knowledge of third party logistics companies. Third party logistics
providers allow companies to eliminate the need for warehouse space, transportation, technology, and
by not having to staff employees to execute these logistics functions

Essay about The Message in Spike Lee’s Movie Do the Right...
The Message in Spike Lee s Movie Do the Right Thing
In an attempt to enlighten audiences with a powerful message about the cancer that hate and violence
can bring to a society; writer, director, Spike Lee brings Do the Right Thing to the screen. Fusing a
powerful story with creative film making, Lee gives us an insider s look at life on a blistering summer
day in Brooklyn.
To create an atmosphere that both looks and almost literally feels like possibly the hottest day of the
year, Lee uses orange and yellow filters throughout the film. Objects, as well as people seem to glisten
in the light. Even scenes shot indoors have beams of light coming through windows and doors. The
use of lighting is only one technique Lee uses to create a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is accomplished with different camera angles as well as the movement of the camera. For
example, in many scenes as the camera follows the action it is shaky rather than sturdy, as if you as a
viewer are walking around and seeing the action through your own eyes. One may also notice that an
escalated level of action or conversation on the screen is mirrored by the pace of the film from frame
to frame. In essence, a heated argument would involve a quick paced transition of shots, going from a
close up of one character to another at a rapid pace in tune with the argument.
At the beginning of the film, we are introduced to a wide variety of characters. Mayor, an older
gentleman with a drinking problem, portrays neutrality in the film that is in sharp contrast to the
racism and discrimination that is harbored in most of the cast. Throughout the story, Lee has a way of
making this hatred between characters seem ridiculous to the point where it becomes humorous.
Perhaps as a way to make the audience look at hate as a joke, and to see it that way in their own lives.
However, slowly we begin to see that the hate towards others is stemming from frustrations within
their own lives, and is taken out on others in increasingly more harmful ways. In the end, we see this
escalating hate lead to violence and in turn to destruction for everybody.

The Mythology Of The Scandinavian Culture
Scandinavia myths, like many other cultures tend to focus on the male gods and less on the goddesses.
Odinn and Odr are the two central gods that are most often focused on in the Scandinavian culture.
Two female figures however, play a fairly prominent role Freyja and Frigg. The focus of my research
is on Freya but the more information I uncovered the more I realized that with one along comes the
other. Freya and Frigg depending on the mythology are the same person or are two individual
goddesses who were close and complimented one another. From other religions we know that the
same god or goddess could appear under different names, usually owning to the fact that he or she
once had a by name, which related to a cult place or a specific function (Näsström 70). I decided to
research Freya because of how closely linked she is to freedom, sexuality and the idea of magic.
Growing up and hearing about Freya she was always talked about as a fairy or nymph, not as a
goddess in the way that I would imagine Ishtar or the Virgin Mary. This is most likely due to the fact
that she was described as a mischievous seducer.
Frigg appears as Odinn s wife, she is the patroness of the home and a relative model of social virtue.
Freyja, on the other hand is sexually very free and active. Many of her actives and practices are seen
as magic, which placed her firmly outside of the sphere of normal society; she might be called the
wild woman of Northern Myth. Both goddesses have similarities,

Michael Pollan Agriculture
With concerns of climate change on the rise, a growing population, and a fear of being unable to
maintain water demands many of our daily practices are coming into question. Agriculture is not
immune to the criticisms, particularly with regard to fossil fuels. In the mid 1900s farming operations
started to exploit fertilizers and land to increase the yield of inexpensive grains. Such practices require
fossil fuels in immense quantities through fertilizers, pesticides, and transportation. However,
passionate debates often occur over the importance and where to go from here. Michael Pollan,
Katherine Mangu Ward, and the National Chicken Council vary widely in their opinions but it is likely
that no one direction is feasible.
Pollan believes that industrial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Katherine Mangu Ward and representatives from The National Chicken Council (NCC) were vocal in
their rebuttals. Mangu Ward believes that Pollan s idealistic view of transformed American and world
agriculture is suited only for the luxury classes. It is improbable to expect the masses to spend
exurbanite amounts of money on organic local produce. This is an understandable concern. The lack
of labor required to supply the country with enough foodstuffs and the potential loss of choices
concern the NCC. The NCC agrees that the system is not perfect but nor is a local supply chain which
would be unable to provide consumers nonnative fruits and vegetables. With regard to the rearing of
chickens the council asserts that there is no evidence of antibiotic resistance, the flocks are kept
healthy and safe, and inexpensive. Local sustainable methods are assumed to be impractical for
national production, requiring vast swaths of land and excessive carbon emissions. Not to mention the
expenses. Straying from the current system presents many economic and social challenges. Do these
difficulties undermine the conceivable

Reading Fluency and Its Effect on Reading Comprehension
Reading Fluency and its Effect on Reading Comprehension
Topic Selection As an elementary teacher, I have often thought reading fluency plays a large role in a
child s reading development. Few reading programs give fluency the recognition it deserves. Reading
fluency has been a prominent and reliable benchmark for me, even when students have comprehension
difficulties. Once fluency is assessed, the results were used to place students in their reading ability
group. Often times, the fluent readers were placed in the high ability reading groups. In the past, our
district used a reading program that gave very little focus to reading fluency and few strategies for
improvement. It assessed fluency based on rate and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reader s theater brings a new, more exciting approach to repeated practice. Like repeated reading,
reader s theater focuses on all three elements of reading fluency.
Reader s theater requires students to reread, memorize, and perform the text, which are key
components to improving fluency. Adding dramatic performance to a student s reading experience will
positively affect the student s expression, or prosody, a key component to reading fluency (Nathan
Stanovich, 2001). Modeling fluency is essential so students can better understand what reading
fluency sounds like. Proper modeling focuses on accuracy, rate, phrasing, and prosody (Worthly
Broaddus, 2001). Evanchan (2010) suggested proper modeling gives students exposure to vocabulary
above their independent reading level. Modeling allows students to be engaged with text they may
wrestle with independently, and comprehension is also enhanced (Worthly Broaddus, 2001). The
student s engagement and evidence of comprehension suggests students listening comprehension level
is at a higher level than their independent reading levels (Evanchan, 2010).
How does reading fluency affect reading comprehension? There are five essential components to
reading. They are phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Evanchan
(2010), referred to the components as links in a chain, and comprehension is the link that secures the
chain; however, if one of the four

  • 2. Essay about William Wordsworth William Wordsworth William Wordsworth was born April 7, 1770, at Cockermouth in Cumberland, England. His poetry, and especially his poems on solitude, must have been heavily influenced by the death of his mother and the splitting up of his family when he was only eight (Kilvert 1). At that time, fate sent him to live in Hawkshead, England, where his teacher started him writing poetry. Wordsworth got his higher education at Cambridge, his memories of which play a part in his later poetry (Noyes 201). Fate again stepped in when, as a young man, he received an inheritance, which gave him the freedom to study literature. One might guess that this is when he first became part of the Romantic movement, (Pinion, 21). The poetry of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Martha was in love with Stephen, who betrayed her by marrying another woman. Martha was pregnant by Stephen, and the rumor was that she had murdered her baby. The reader feels all her pain when she cries, Oh misery! oh misery! Oh woe is me! oh misery! These words express her heartbreak at losing Stephen; her anguish at finding herself pregnant; her shame at being an unwed mother; her guilt and regret for murdering her baby; her grief over the baby s death; and her knowledge that her life is ruined. The thorn is a powerful symbol of all this misery. Just as the thorns, Martha s appearance makes it seem as if she, too, could never have been young. She, too, is A wretched thing forlorn. By contrast, what seems to be the infant s grave lies in a beautiful mound of color. Of coarse, the child is innocent and its beauty is forever filled with color; but Martha s only color is her scarlet cloak of shame. The title, itself, is full of meaning when we walk with our eyes uplifted, we are not looking at the real world around us, but are dreaming on the stars. While the real world may be beautiful, it may also be very ugly and painful. However, imagination gives us the power to block out what is bad and to create a special world. We can look inside ... • 3. Essay on Survival in Auschwitz by Primo Levi Primo Levi, in his novel Survival in Auschwitz (2008), illustrates the atrocities inflicted upon the prisoners of the concentration camp by the Schutzstaffel, through dehumanization. Levi describes the denial of humanness constantly forced upon the prisoners through similes, metaphors, and imagery of animalistic and mechanistic dehumanization ( Dehumanization ). He makes his readers aware of the cruel reality in the concentration camp in order to help them examine the psychological effects dehumanization has not only on those dehumanized, but also on those who dehumanize. He establishes an earnest and reflective tone with his audience yearning to grasp the reality of genocide. In Survival in Auschwitz, Primo Levi laments that men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Levi s ability to demonstrate the adversities of their oppression illustrates the dehumanization of the prisoners. The inmates eat soup while in the camp. When the time comes for them to get their bowls filled, Levi professes they have an animal hurry to consume their food (Survival 69). This metaphor suggests the men s animalistic behavior due to their severe thirst and hunger. The concept of dehumanization carried out by the Schutzstaffel primarily targets the prisoners identity and community ( Dehumanization ). Each man s struggle to survive in Auschwitz depends on their principal focus of themselves. They can no longer elicit compassion or other moral responses , every man endures on his own, and they cannot think of others. Ironically, waiting around to pass time satisfies the inmates; [they] are always happy to wait (Survival 104). Levi rationalizes their content when Alex tells them to wait and says they have the complete obtuse inertia of spiders in old webs (Survival 104). He compares his Kommando to spiders, as they sit lifelessly, trapped in an abandoned labyrinth. The action of waiting brings the men solace, for once, as time moves smoothly and they have no duties to complete (Survival 104). Throughout the novel, Levi also provides imagery of the animalistic form of dehumanization through his diction. As the men eat in their bunks, Levi states that David snarls (Survival 75). The action or sound of snarling is typically given ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They said that this would help bring me closer to God, but I think they just needed a break from me. I ve always detested summer camp, especially the ones from church. The kids from there are always so annoying, and I m forced to put up with them for a whole week. When we got to the camp, it was about 5:30. The group leaders assigned our cabins, which consisted of four bunk beds, two dressers, and a small couch. After that, we all went on a hike and came back for dinner. I didn t know what to tell her. I debated whether or not I should say something. I wasn t fine though, I felt uneasy. When it got later, we went to our cabin, and once again, the girls stayed up talking while I listened to my music. I turned up the volume all the way and tried, unsuccessfully to get the thought out of my mind. I wasn t sure why she was there, or if she was even a threat, but the way she just stood there staring at me creeped me out. The thought kept poking at me so out of curiosity, I went up to the window and opened the curtains. I examined the forest and searched to see if the woman was there. • 7. Garcinia Cambogia Garcinia cambogia extract is a weight loss pill that was advertised by Dr. Oz during a segment on his daytime talk show. Dr. Oz introduced the product using persuasive language to provoke viewer interest, claiming the pill is the magic ingredient to lose weight without diet or exercise. He explained that garcinia cambogia extract is found in the rind of tamarind fruit from Southeast Asia and that the fruit is known to have medicinal benefits. Dr. Oz stated that garcinia cambogia may have more promise than other weight loss products because it reduces body fat and suppresses appetite. The active ingredient found in garcinia cambogia, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), aids to block an enzyme which makes fat. HCA also increases the release of the hormone serotonin, which reduces the craving for food. Additionally, garcinia cambogia can decrease total cholesterol and triglycerides, with potential improvement in leptin and insulin resistance in the obese. The product was advertised during the segment to target women who are seeking an easy alternative to lose weight fast. This is apparent as the majority of the studio audience is composed of middle aged women who represent the intended population. By allowing the audience to ask questions that Dr. Oz answers on the spot, viewers are left with more confidence in the product. Dr. Oz specifically manipulates his language with the objective to entice women, referring to weight loss as a decrease in dress size. Dr. Oz conveys a sense of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kosovo is a self declared independent country in the South Balkans in Europe, it wants independence, but Serbia believes that it is an autonomous province of Serbia. It declared independence in 2008 and there are a lot of reasons why, but there are also some reasons why it should be part of Serbia. Kosovo should be independent because Serbians have committed genocide against ethnic Kosovar Albanians, other countries have broke free from Serbia, thus Kosovo should be able to as well, and three out of the five members of the UN s Big Five are in agreement about the issue (UN.org). In the UN, there is a security council made up of 5 countries, also know as the Big Five , which are Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The Big Five are split on the issue, with Russia and China saying no to their independence, and the US, UK, and France say yes to the issue. China and Russia believe that Kosovo should become independent. One reason is that Serbia has been protected by Russia since WWI when it helped it gain independence. Russia and China are allies, so China agrees with Russia on the issue. On the other side, the US, UK, and France are all in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), so they generally agree with each other, as well as the rest of NATO. Supporters of Serbian integration of Kosovo believe that Kosovo should not become independent because it might start wars, but, because there is a scenario that is well know, know as MAD, or Mutually Assured Destruction (Nieuwint). MAD is a scenario in which the US and Russia are at war and they destroy each other, and the world. The masses at the time and even now would argue that these people these caricatures were based of real people and experiences but first hand accounts from the community beg to differ. People from oppressed communities were being portrayed as animals, fools, and sexual heathen to degrade their worth and make the fight for equality harder Popular caricatures of the African American community helped keep what white supremacist would call racial balance. During the time of the civil war, tensions were high when people started to get the idea that slaves did not like being slaves. To combat this the uncle and the Mammy caricatures were created. They were depicted as older slaves that enjoyed working under their master (Riggs). This new concept helped white people conform to the idea of slavery because of the need it implied on the white community to control slaves. After northern states began to make slavery illegal, they no longer needed docile characters to play a part in the segregation of the races. Instead new characters were created to fit their agenda To combat the growing presence of black men in the northern middle class the Zip coon was created ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, in many scenes as the camera follows the action it is shaky rather than sturdy, as if you as a viewer are walking around and seeing the action through your own eyes. One may also notice that an escalated level of action or conversation on the screen is mirrored by the pace of the film from frame to frame. In essence, a heated argument would involve a quick paced transition of shots, going from a close up of one character to another at a rapid pace in tune with the argument. At the beginning of the film, we are introduced to a wide variety of characters. Mayor, an older gentleman with a drinking problem, portrays neutrality in the film that is in sharp contrast to the racism and discrimination that is harbored in most of the cast. Throughout the story, Lee has a way of making this hatred between characters seem ridiculous to the point where it becomes humorous. Perhaps as a way to make the audience look at hate as a joke, and to see it that way in their own lives. However, slowly we begin to see that the hate towards others is stemming from frustrations within their own lives, and is taken out on others in increasingly more harmful ways. In the end, we see this escalating hate lead to violence and in turn to destruction for everybody. The reoccurring appearance of the photograph of Martin Luther King Jr. and ... • 30. The Mythology Of The Scandinavian Culture Scandinavia myths, like many other cultures tend to focus on the male gods and less on the goddesses. Odinn and Odr are the two central gods that are most often focused on in the Scandinavian culture. Two female figures however, play a fairly prominent role Freyja and Frigg. The focus of my research is on Freya but the more information I uncovered the more I realized that with one along comes the other. Freya and Frigg depending on the mythology are the same person or are two individual goddesses who were close and complimented one another. From other religions we know that the same god or goddess could appear under different names, usually owning to the fact that he or she once had a by name, which related to a cult place or a specific function (Näsström 70). I decided to research Freya because of how closely linked she is to freedom, sexuality and the idea of magic. Growing up and hearing about Freya she was always talked about as a fairy or nymph, not as a goddess in the way that I would imagine Ishtar or the Virgin Mary. This is most likely due to the fact that she was described as a mischievous seducer. Frigg appears as Odinn s wife, she is the patroness of the home and a relative model of social virtue. Freyja, on the other hand is sexually very free and active. Many of her actives and practices are seen as magic, which placed her firmly outside of the sphere of normal society; she might be called the wild woman of Northern Myth. Both goddesses have similarities, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Michael Pollan Agriculture With concerns of climate change on the rise, a growing population, and a fear of being unable to maintain water demands many of our daily practices are coming into question. Agriculture is not immune to the criticisms, particularly with regard to fossil fuels. In the mid 1900s farming operations started to exploit fertilizers and land to increase the yield of inexpensive grains. Such practices require fossil fuels in immense quantities through fertilizers, pesticides, and transportation. However, passionate debates often occur over the importance and where to go from here. Michael Pollan, Katherine Mangu Ward, and the National Chicken Council vary widely in their opinions but it is likely that no one direction is feasible. Pollan believes that industrial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Katherine Mangu Ward and representatives from The National Chicken Council (NCC) were vocal in their rebuttals. Mangu Ward believes that Pollan s idealistic view of transformed American and world agriculture is suited only for the luxury classes. It is improbable to expect the masses to spend exurbanite amounts of money on organic local produce. This is an understandable concern. The lack of labor required to supply the country with enough foodstuffs and the potential loss of choices concern the NCC. The NCC agrees that the system is not perfect but nor is a local supply chain which would be unable to provide consumers nonnative fruits and vegetables. With regard to the rearing of chickens the council asserts that there is no evidence of antibiotic resistance, the flocks are kept healthy and safe, and inexpensive. Local sustainable methods are assumed to be impractical for national production, requiring vast swaths of land and excessive carbon emissions. Not to mention the expenses. Straying from the current system presents many economic and social challenges. Do these difficulties undermine the conceivable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The case was the 2nd largest medical malpractice verdict in Pennsylvania history. The case was against William Norwood, the world famous cardiothoracic heart surgeon, who performed an unauthorized surgical procedure on Stephen Gault, leaving him severely brain damaged and in permanent need of long term care. Stephen had a small narrowing in the aorta, the blood vessel that leaves the heart and goes to all organs of the body. This condition is known as a Coarctation of the Aorta and it required a simple operation through the rib cage to correct it. He also had a small hole in his heart which was closing on it own and the his doctor reported ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Reading Fluency and Its Effect on Reading Comprehension Reading Fluency and its Effect on Reading Comprehension Topic Selection As an elementary teacher, I have often thought reading fluency plays a large role in a child s reading development. Few reading programs give fluency the recognition it deserves. Reading fluency has been a prominent and reliable benchmark for me, even when students have comprehension difficulties. Once fluency is assessed, the results were used to place students in their reading ability group. Often times, the fluent readers were placed in the high ability reading groups. In the past, our district used a reading program that gave very little focus to reading fluency and few strategies for improvement. It assessed fluency based on rate and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reader s theater brings a new, more exciting approach to repeated practice. Like repeated reading, reader s theater focuses on all three elements of reading fluency. Reader s theater requires students to reread, memorize, and perform the text, which are key components to improving fluency. Adding dramatic performance to a student s reading experience will positively affect the student s expression, or prosody, a key component to reading fluency (Nathan Stanovich, 2001). Modeling fluency is essential so students can better understand what reading fluency sounds like. Proper modeling focuses on accuracy, rate, phrasing, and prosody (Worthly Broaddus, 2001). Evanchan (2010) suggested proper modeling gives students exposure to vocabulary above their independent reading level. Modeling allows students to be engaged with text they may wrestle with independently, and comprehension is also enhanced (Worthly Broaddus, 2001). The student s engagement and evidence of comprehension suggests students listening comprehension level is at a higher level than their independent reading levels (Evanchan, 2010). How does reading fluency affect reading comprehension? There are five essential components to reading. They are phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Evanchan (2010), referred to the components as links in a chain, and comprehension is the link that secures the chain; however, if one of the four ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
