Of course, seniors (those over 65) are not the only people to be affected by diabetes: type 1 diabetes (previously known as insulin-dependent diabetes or juvenile-onset diabetes) is usually diagnosed during childhood, while type 2 diabetes (previously known as non-insulin dependent diabetes or adult-onset diabetes), the most common type, is usually diagnosed in adults over the age of 45, although a growing number of young people are developing type 2 diabetes. Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that occurs only during pregnancy.
Type 2 diabetes is linked to an unhealthy lifestyle. Major risk factors for type 2 diabetes include age, being overweight, genetic predisposition to diabetes, and a reduction in activity levels. The rates of type 2 diabetes steadily increase with age.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2. What Is Diabetes Mellitus?
Most of the food we eat is turned into glucose (sugar) for our bodies to
use for energy. The pancreas, an organ near the stomach, makes a
hormone called insulin to help glucose get into our body cells. When
you have diabetes, your body either doesn’t make enough insulin or
can’t use its own insulin very well. This problem causes glucose to build
up in your blood(HYPERGLYCEMIA in medical terms).
Diabetes means that a person’s blood sugar is too high. Your blood
always has some sugar in it because the body needs sugar for energy
to keep you going. But too much sugar in the blood can cause serious
damage to the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and heart.
3. TYPES OF DIABETES
Broadly there are three main types of diabetes:
Diabetes Type 1 - You produce no insulin at
all.
Diabetes Type 2 - You don't produce enough
insulin, or your insulin is not working properly.
Gestational Diabetes - You develop diabetes
just during your pregnancy.
4. How do I even suspect I have it?
You may recall having some of
these signs before you found out
you had diabetes:
Being very thirsty.
Urinating a lot—often at night.
Having blurry vision from time to
time.
Feeling very tired much of the
time.
Losing weight without trying.
Having very dry skin.
Having sores that are slow to
heal.
Getting more infections than
usual.
Losing feeling or getting a
tingling feeling in the feet.
Vomiting.
5. How can I be sure ?
Urine Sugar test Random blood sugar test
Both these can also be done at home to monitor the patient’s progress
6. Its always advisable to see your doctor
at the earliest
Oral Glucose Tolerance Speak to your doctor
test without any hesitation
7. ARE YOU THE ONLY ONE
SUFFERING FROM
DIABETES????

PRIVILEDGED COMPANY:

Millions of diabetics
are well controlled with
drugs,insulin,exercise,
Yoga and lead a
healthy joyful life
They go to work,see
their kids grow up and
do what everybody
else does normally!
9.
10. Alright it’s all good! So how do I
manage my life now?
First and foremost, you must take responsibility
for your own day-to-day care and not anyone else.
How??!
Healthy eating
Physical activity / exercise / Yoga / Aerobics
Regular blood glucose testing and maintaining a diary
Take your pills as prescribed
Follow your diet religiously
Follow up with your doctor as instructed on a regular
basis
11. Home based care
Monitoring your own
glucose is done with a
Glucose Meter. Self-
monitoring is often called
SMBG (self-monitoring of
blood glucose). Glucose
meters today are small,
battery-operated devices.
12. USING A GLUCOMETER
When you want to test for
glucose with a glucose meter you
need to place a small sample of
your blood on a test strip. Your
skin is pricked with a lancet - like
a very fast pin-prick.
These test strips are disposable.
You then place the strip in the
monitor. The strips are coated
with enzymes that combine with
glucose in blood.
Based on the glucose level in
blood,they flash the appropriate
values on the screen.
13. Prevention is better than cure…if it
can’t be prevented,it can surely be
controlled.
14. Be more physically active !!
Go for a walk with a friend,
a neighbour, your family

few more steps

grandchildren or friends

class

lessons
