Is Google Making Us Stupid Analysis
In Is Google Making Us Stupid, Nicolas Carr demonstrates his point of view regarding the negative
effect of google on the function of the brain. Carr believes that Google is having a tremendously
negative effect on the function of the brain, and the fact that google is allowing individuals to solve
complex problems quicker is causing damage to the brain. Neurons are significantly important
particles in the brain, when the brain is not used for solving complex problems those neurons are most
likely to die. Additionally, excessive usage of google results in weakening of reading and writing
skills. The majority of the people who are exposed to the usage of google are noticing a dramatic
change in function of their brain. However, as the number of google users increases, more people are
starting to have difficulties with sample skills such as reading and writing.
I believe that this source plays an essential role in my project. This source explains to the reader as to
why using excessive technologies are damaging our brain, and it also informs the reader to use
websites such as google as rarely as possible because most people who are addicted to these websites
are facing extremely difficult time with reading, writing, and intellectuality.

Margrieter Vs. New Hotel
The five elements of negligence that apply to the case of Mr. Margrieter V. New Hotel
Monteleone, Inc are Duty, breach, cause in effect, proximal cause and harm (damage suffered as a
proximal result of the defendant s breach of duty). Duty refers to an obligation one has to another
party. If duty constrains and channels behavior in a socially responsible way (Owen, 2007), then the
Hotel Menteloene has a duty to take reasonable measures to protect its guests from harm. Breach, an
improper act or omission, can also be viewed as an element that exists in this case.
The hotel did not provide adequate security, as it did not replace the security personnel that had called
in sick. It is particularly a breach if the hotel has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hotel uses Mr. Margrieter s lack of clear memory of the events as a defense and his inability to
return to New Orleans to identify his attackers as another defense, as he was stable enough to fly home
to Denver for a Craniotomy (brain surgery). However, it does not require much in the way of mental
capacity to take a flight on a commercial airline. A severe head injury and the subsequent
recovery period after the brain surgery are limiting enough. The lack of evidence of the two men
abducting Mr. Margrieter is perhaps the strongest argument the hotel can use. Without such evidence,
it is difficult to prove that the actions of the hotel, such as inadequate security and failure to follow
procedure in locking the freight elevator, led to Mr. Margrieter s injury. Without evidence, cause in
fact and proximal cause are hard to prove.

How Slums Are Constructed And Complex Economic, Social And...
Across the world, whether it be in a first or a third world country, there are populations which tend to
be segregated into communities and form part of the low socioeconomic status. These groups, usually
termed slums , are heavily ostracised and are usually sought to be removed and stopped in their
growth. Drawing from different locations as examples, I will firstly discuss how slums are established
and the many complex economic, social and political issues which keep the slum alive in this modern
age. There is also the matter of highlighting the way in which we define a slum and the people living
within it and how this may affect slum growth. Lastly, I will make an allusion to measures that try and
stop the advance of slums and their effectiveness.
The origins and development of a slum are varied and complex. As there are a myriad of possible
scenarios and variations, to avoid over complexity, there are a few key political, economic and social
factors that are a running theme within the majority of slums. Most of these aspects transpire
concurrently and are inextricably linked. One of the main causes of a slum s creation is due to rapid
urbanisation in a city that is unable to keep up with the growing demands. The rapid influx of people
to cities could be for several reasons: moving from rural areas to find work in bigger cities or
migrating from a war torn country. Upon moving to these larger towns, they are unable to afford
housing due to lower incomes in the

Now, when the system changed, the government had to establish absolute new for the whole country
way for living. Capitalistic system states are based on the free enterprise, private property, markets,
and individual choice. In 1991, the Russian language did not even have a word or term that stressed
the private property in land. Property belonged to all, and therefore to no one. After the Bolshevik
revolution a forceful collectivization of the land property was carried out. This way a vital link
between the peasantry who were the main workforce in the country and their object of work the land,
their prime source of income and goods, was broken. The communist government vigorously was
compelling the peasants to work tirelessly, for almost no profit, the salaries were the lowest in the
country, so the pensions. As a result the alienation of the citizen toward the land and the property as a
whole was one of the main reasons for the fall of the communism. Huge flow of people from the
countryside to the cities was taking place. As a result at the end of communist regime the base for
restoration of the capitalistic economy in the villages the development of small and middle sized farms
was very weak. Rebuilding the ties between the people and the land, returning the economic initiative
to the individuals and changing the state regulatory system, including the protection of the private
property were immense tasks for the new

Comparing Freud s Civilizations And Its Discontents
As aforementioned, Freudian theory links desire to eroticism, and from the outset, this eroticism is
evident in the earliest stages of our childhood, but where is this sexual fixation derived from?
According to the father of psychoanalysis himself, this desire is derived from our parents as the object
of said fixation. Wherein, the child desires to satisfy their sexual desires by replacing the opposite sex
parent. As a rule a father prefers his daughter and a mother her son; the child reacts to this by wishing,
if he is a son, to take his father s place, and, if she is a daughter, her mother s. (Freud, 1909). In fact, if
there are siblings in the mix this instinctual desire can even be strong enough to cause jealousy
between siblings, because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Ego, according to Freud, perpetuates feelings from within us, and as such can be ascribed certain
traits. Firstly, the boundaries of our Ego are not constant; the Ego s central role is to fend of
displeasure from the external world. Wherein, the instinct of self preservation, and similar constructive
and destructive principles are preserved within it. Furthermore, our Ego s do not necessarily die with
us, using Rome as an example; we can see that certain developmental constructs crafted by our Egos
have survived to modern day (i.e., Law). However, it remains that our Ego s primary purpose is to
fend off displeasure, whilst maximizing pleasure; this becomes known as the pleasure principle.
Accordingly, the unsatisfactory tenets of our own mortality, and the measures we are willing to go to
avoid such displeasure are relatively drastic at times. As displeasure can be brought on by three
distinct entities: our own bodies, the external world, and our relationships with other men. German
novelist and poet, Theodore Fontane offers us some examples, as there are ...three such measures:
powerful deflections, which cause us to make light of our misery; substitutive satisfactions, which
diminish it; and intoxicating substances, which make us insensitive to it. (Freud, 1962). Ultimately,
however, despite these coping mechanisms, our happiness and subsequent desires are ...a question of
how much real satisfaction he can expect to get from the external world, how far he is led to make
himself independent of it, and, finally, how much strength he feels he has for altering the world to suit
his wishes (Freud, 1962). Therefore, according to Freud, desire is all about maximizing the pleasure
principle through the principle of transference. These processes are inherently instinctual, as they are
perpetuated through the Ego, but no

Similarities Between Ancient Greek And American Society
American Society and Ancient Greece
Ancient Greece believed that art is a depiction of the one s culture and individualism. Ancient Greece
helped shaped the world of today. We have many similarities with ancient Greece today. Ancient
Greece had three different column styles the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian as a substitute wood for
building temples. These three different styles are still been used today in various mode like the
Greeks.
Thanks to the Doric style a plain, simple column with a circle on the top of the column, we can enjoy
the benefits of sitting on our porches with roofs attached protecting us from the elements. The porch
on the Governor s mansion in Atlanta, GA is another example of the Doric style. Ancient Greece built

The Corinthian style is used for contemporary furniture designs like my mother s cherry wood high
four posts bed with flowers etch in the posters. Many planners use the Corinthian style columns for
elaborate decorations particular in weddings today.
Another similarity, we share with ancient Greece is the love of sports rivalry especially the Olympic
Games. In 776 B.C., the first Olympic Games begin as an achievement in art, ethical conduct and
interaction of the mind in ancient Greece. Today athletes from all over the world take part in the
Olympic Games. In spite of the many new events such as bicycling, skating, gymnastics, swimming,
soccer and basketball, many of the earlier (ancient Greece) events such as footraces, jumping, discus
and javelin throwing, boxing, and wrestling are still a part of the today games.
As we mourned the recent loss of Muhammad Ali, boxing champion of the world to many, continued
the ancient Greece s tradition of carrying the torch to light the cauldron during the 1996 Summer
Olympics games in Atlanta, GA. The torch remains lit until the conclusion of competition today as it

Ovariohysterectomy In Dogs
Problem: Spaying a dog is a far more invasive surgery than neutering is, due to the need to enter the
abdominal cavity to remove the uterus and the ovaries in a ovariohysterectomy. The act of opening the
abdominal cavity increases the risk of infection in dogs due to exposing inner tissues and organs to a
potentially non sterile environment. To counteract the risk of infection, many doctors preemptively
prescribe antibiotics to the dogs, however, Shiloh Veterinary Hospital does not. The antibiotics usually
serve the purpose of keeping the dogs infection free, but it also contributes to the evolution of
antibiotic resistant diseases that are far more dangerous to the animals.

Christianity Protestant Reformer Research Paper
Christianity: Protestant Reformer Martin Luther
Martin Luther, born into the Catholic Church in 1483, is considered to be the father of Protestantism. 1
Luther was a devout man who dedicated himself to the study of the bible; in addition to being a
Professor of Biblical Studies at the University of Wittenberg, he was also a priest and a monk. He
spent a lot of his time focusing on what one could do to earn eternal salvation as it was written about
in the Bible. This was especially troubling to him given the actions of his colleagues at the University
of Wittenberg and his fellow priests and monks. He felt the actions of many of those in the Church that
he loved were both immoral and corrupt, and especially in the midst of his own struggles with the idea
of salvation, these actions troubled him deeply. 2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had issues with abuses of power amongst clergy, especially with regard to church finances. He
disliked the idea of indulgences, which involved members of the congregations paying priests and
other leaders for abolition of their sins, effectively bribing church leaders for their own salvation.
More than this, spiritual merit was attached to donations made to the church, and masses were able to
be purchased for the dead. The University of Whittenberg held many sacred relics, including hairs said
to have been from the Virgin Mary and the crown of thorns placed on Jesus head during crucifixion.
Rather than cherishing these items for their religious worth, they were sold. 3
Because of these things, Martin Luther was raged with a fierce and agitated conscience . 4 After
intense study, Luther followed the traditional method of protesting within the Catholic church he
nailed his complaints to the Church door and invited them to meet with him. Because of his refusal to
take back these complaints, and despite his intention to stay in the church, he was excommunicated in
1521.

Army recognized the most cost effective process was to address energy efficiency first, and then

of the initial efficiency improvements made on the base. These improvements alone made 42% of the
projected total energy savings. After this evaluation, skylights and renewable energy, consisting of
photovoltaic (PV), solar hot water, solar ventilation preheating, and ground source heat pumps were
designed to enhance and push towards net zero. Thirty seven percent of total savings are estimated to
be from PV and 13% from ground source heat pumps. Currently, the base has a 1 megawatt (MW)
solar array with a projected total of 6 MW down the road. Due to high waste removal costs, the base is
planning a 425 kW waste to energy power plant to save money on waste disposal and electricity
production. In addition to these major projects, smaller developments such as solar street lights and
electric vehicle charging stations have been installed. These developments, varying in size, were

Baraka And Kaufman
Question: What can be seen by examining the nexus of marginalized experiences expressed in both
Bob Kaufman and Amiri Baraka s poetry (using critical race theory and queer theory), which centers
on homophobia and racism, and produces cultural isolation, alienation/imprisonment, and a
devastating psychic loneliness.
Question: How does the subject presented in Bob Kaufman and Amiri Barak s poetry polarize a shift
in American Culture and thus redefine what it means to be an American.
Bob Kaufman and Amiri Baraka as poet activists drew influence from William Blake and Arthur
Rimbaud by adopting and building on their poetic techniques of self mythologization and self

(Damon 141). This completely ignores that fact that in San Francisco where Kaufman lived, and in
New York where Baraka lived, the Beat culture lived in close and overlapping proximity with a
burgeoning gay male community which had cultural but as yet no political visibility (141). During the
Beat Generation, the black man was a source of fear and desire for white men both gay and straight. In
this space the Black hipster carried a presumed straightness (144). In her essay Triangulated Desire

formal presence of queers as a group that makes up the counterculture. There is no queer content in
the poem, except insofar as the homo social economy of desire that flows between white men and

Stand up comedy industry Essay
Title Stand up comedy industry
Thesis 1: From an industrial organization point of view, the stand up comedy market structure in the
1980s can be characterized as an oligopoly
The structure of a market, thus how a market is functioning, is the concept behind the industrial
organization theory . The Industrial Organization (IO) theory is about, how a structure of a market has
an influence on the strategy and decision making of a company. 1 The theory therefore focusses on the
market wherein the company operates and links the decisions of the company to the market. In the
economic theory of industrial organisation, an industry can be defined according to several different

In 1975 such a diachronic dialectic was found for the first time in de music industry by Peterson and
Berger. They saw an active interaction/connection between small and large firms, which influenced
the market. While the large firms were competing with each other, niches opened up and were filled
by smaller firms.
But unlike the music industry and the American film industry (Mezias Mezias, 2000), there is not a
diachronic dialectic between small firms and large firms in the stand up comedy industry.
According to the resource partitioning theory, a theory conceptualized by Caroll in 1985, this dialectic
exists when the big firms are competing with each other. Just a few of these generalists survive and
they move forward toward the centre of the market. Because of this movement small pockets of
resources open up, where smaller firms can thrive (Vermeulen Bruggeman, 2000).
However, in the stand up comedy industry it is difficult to underestimate large and small firms, instead
we distinguish comedians and the media they use to reach their audience. Hence it weren t large firms
causing the opening of the niches for smaller firms. Instead it has been the increase of the use of
media over the past couple decades that has stimulated the creative industry of stand up comedy.

In order to gain more deep understanding and knowledge about BigChange s operation and future
plan, the researcher conducted an in depth interview with the founder of the company who is also the
current CEO. Hence, this part of the chapter 4 will display five main topics of the research collected
from the interview as well as providing some direct quotes of the CEO.
4.4.1. Company Overview
It is essential for the researcher to gain insights into the operation and development of BigChange. The
CEO responded with meticulous answers about current situation and growth strategies. To illustrate,
the CEO believes his company is in the early phase of growth. Though they have just offered their
services and products for 2 years, their performances in the market are remarkable with the annual
revenue of ₤2 million. Moreover, he estimates the market share that the company has gained after two
years working is from 0.5% to 1% and he confirms that the UK telematics is one of the biggest
markets in Europe. Thus it seems to take BigChange more time and efforts to achieve its ambition as a
market leader.
When asking about the current strategy of BigChange, the CEO demonstrated that they are providing
services and products to specified industries in the UK by creating different industry sites. Then they
introduce sites and services to a customer coming from those industries, it will be timesaving and easy
to offer and customise the sites. Furthermore, he illustrated that services can be a

Modesty is the best jewel of a woman speaks islamic culture to their female religious followers. In the
Kite Runner, by Khaled Hussein, we are provided with a window to peer into the traditional lives of
islam women. One such example is Soraya and her mother, and the family heirarchy led by the male
head of household, General Taheri. This core belief and value directs the pious life of a muslim

Through false interpretations of the Quran, and the hunger for control among a select group of male
individuals, these women have now reached the climax of this battle for gender equality since the days
of Mohammed. Here we are, 14 centuries later to observe the strides time has taken. Islamic women
and girls today are still perceived as inferior to men. This belief is prevalent in the everyday routines
of a female living under religious standards. While there is a great diversity among the extremity of
islamic laws, depending where you are located geographically, it is safe to say that an unfortunately
high number of women experience discrimination daily. Many of these social injustices are results of a
secularized legal code. Women are permitted only one spouse, while for men they can wed up to four.
A young girl, according to law, can be wed at the age of nine, while boys at fourteen. Once a woman is

ramifications. Men, in nearly every instance, win custody of the children, and women are left with
zero financial security afterwards. But this is not the worst of female suffering. Annually hundreds of

Volunteering At The Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home Essay
Volunteering at the Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home over the summer was an invaluable
experience. As I became more comfortable, I began extending my duties beyond physical tasks such
as serving food or transporting residents. I started interacting with the residents on a more personal
level, not as a volunteer, but more as a friend. In return, the residents became increasingly open, and
the nurses watched as I conversed with residents they had deemed as reserved. Sometimes when I
helped residents they would say nothing, but at the same time they said everything I needed to hear. I
probably appreciated helping those residents, more than they appreciated me. Every night when I went
to bed, I felt I had actually made a difference. This volunteering experience allowed me to realize that
whatever I do in life, I want to go to sleep feeling the same way I did that summer. In a world filled
with problems, why be an observer? I approach life with this mentality and for that reason am enticed
by the problem solving and critical thinking abilities that engineers possess. More specifically, I am
drawn towards bioengineering due to the influence that this area of study has on the medical field, and
on the overall quality of life and health for humans. While the study of medicine can provide the
ability to treat individuals, bioengineering can have a more universal impact, providing the ability to

The English American poet, Wystan Hugh Auden, better known as W. H. Auden, was known for his
ability to craft poems in different styles centering his work on different moral, social, and political
issues. W.H. Auden is recognized for having some of the most renowned poetry of the 20th century
due to his ability to use ancient moral issues, and relate them to current events of the time. Even
though Auden had a talent for using his personal experiences to create poetry of love and suffering,
some of his most powerful poems are written upon the immortality of war. Focusing on totalitarian

citizens, leading dictators to unleash war upon the world. Due to his knowledge of the potential
destructive tendencies of dictators, Auden uses his poetry to convey the message that the power of

Hunnic Bow
The Huns were a nomadic tribe originating in the Caspian steppes potentially as early as the first
century A.D. It is likely that they stem from the Hsiung nu. They were incredibly successful
conquerors, and the Hunnic bow is an integral part of what made the Huns so successful. The expert
craftsmanship and the perfected design allowed the Huns to produce the best bows in the world. The
Huns lived in Eastern Europe and because they are nomads they did not have agriculture. They relied
on herding to a certain extent, but trade, raiding, and exacting tribute were also incredibly important to
the Hunnic economy. At least two of those things require the Huns to be a powerful fighting force. The
Huns did fight with axes and swords and such, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The innovation was in how the Huns redesigned the bow. The Hunnic war bow was a compound bow
which was reflexed , meaning that when unstrung it would actually curve in the opposite way it was
intended to be used. The process for making these bows is incredibly complex. First horn from the
Hungarian Grey Steer was cut into strips and filed smooth. It was then submerged in boiling water and
it slowly straightened as it softened (the softening was not permanent; it only persists while the horn
was being boiled) in the water. The now flat strips of horn were then filed down to their final
thickness. A wood was selected for the core (of the bow limbs) and dried. The horn was then glued to
the back of the wood and the limbs were glued to the handle. The ears (the part that curves backwards)
were then carved (usually out of spruce because it is light and stiff) and glued to the end of the bow at
roughly a forty five degree angle. The bow was then backed with layers of sinews (often deer leg
tendons). Sometimes the joints between the ears and the limbs and the limbs and the handle were also
bound with hide. Then the seven bone plaques are cut into rough trapezoids to match the contours of
the bow and glued into place. Then the process of tuning the bow begins. Each part of the bow is
heated and slowly curved until the entire bow is uniform. All told it can take years to properly make
and tune a Hunnic bow if you include the time to cure the wood, sinews, and glue. The two greatest
differences between the Hunnic bow and other compound bows are the asymmetry of the arms and the
bone stiffeners in the ears and handle. The bone plates are trapezoidal to better fit together along the
contours of the bow, and they were deliberately scratched and roughened to ensure the glue would
hold. Glue for these bows was often derived from the air bladder of a sturgeon although other glues

A locksmith is someone who can repair and make locks. There are a number of instances where a
person will need a locksmith. One of the main reasons that people contact a locksmith is because they
get locked out of their vehicle or home. Most people s first instinct is to panic when they get locked
out of their vehicle or home.
However, the good news is that Edmonton lock service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
That is why you will be able to quickly get a locksmith if you happen to get locked out of your vehicle

Future Of Life Edward O Wilson Analysis
In the book, Future Of Life (2002), Edward O. Wilson, satirizes and jokes about how childish and
unsophisticated arguments are such as those between the People First Critics and Environmentalist.
The results of this book is to showcase how these arguments lead to nowhere and Wilson presents this
information by satirically mocking both sides of the argument with exaggeration, sarcasm and
hyperboles. On line one, the very beginning of the passage, Wilson states by calling the
Environmentalists, Conservationists which is almost identical to when an individual brags about
themself in a cocky manner. When a person is prideful, overconfident and arrogant they create a
superiority complex which makes them feel better than others. In those scenarios, they don t even
argue with others and just believe that they are always right, making them close minded to other
opinions and ideas. This cockiness that Wilson mocks from the People First Critics point of view
shows the reader that Environmentalists think they are perfect and there is no possible way that their
ideals are flawed, which makes it a useless argument because both sides are arguing with no end in
sight. This cockiness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that idea. This exaggeration and hypothetical situation makes the Environmentalists seem selfless and
ignorant because the People First Critic is only looking at a worst case scenario that will most likely

Fixing Rikers Island Summary
Fixing Rikers Island by Marlin F. Horn article discusses the current problem confronting our
correctional facilities. Overcrowded jails are an issue that has been impacting the United States jail
populace for a considerable length of time. The author illustrated assessment about this issue and
furthermore gives some contrasting option to take care of the issues particularly Riker Island. As
agreed by Marlin Horn (2015), takes credit for bringing needed attention to conditions at the jails,
calls for the appointment of a federal monitor and identifies the long time president of the collective
bargaining agent for the Correction Officers as an impediment to reform . I certainly concur with
Marlin the present condition on Rikers Island should be settled. By not having the sufficient space and
support to fulfill prisoner needs or recovery, this will bring about detainees leaving the prison system
not ready for regular citizen life. Thus, this will ensure that previous detainee falling once again into

Avery Heights is a community nursing home in a park like setting in the town of Hartford. I have been
a volunteer worker for two years and almost every day I visit this magnificent place. My attendance
began when I was a high school student looking to complete community service work mandatory for
every student. Ever since my first visit, I have thoroughly enjoyed assisting the residents living in
Avery Heights throughout my high school experience and beyond. Whether spending time with
dementia and Alzheimer s patient or enjoying the twist and turns of the puzzle solving and Friday
Bingo games with the healthy residents, I developed a sense of compassion, love, and gratitude toward
them. My attraction to the Heights was mainly because of volunteering. I helped residents with any
technological issues that they faced, from fixing old VCR players so they could watch their favorites

Human Cloning And Its Legality
Human cloning is the creation of genetically identical or modified copy of a human. Human
cloning is the reproduction of human cells and tissue. The possibility of human cloning has
raised complications. These ethical concerns have provoked several nations to pass laws
regarding human cloning and its legality. The common types of cloning is Gene cloning,
reproductive cloning, and therapeutic cloning. Gene cloning is the process in which a gene is
located and copied out of DNA extracted from an organism. Reproductive cloning is the
production of a genetic duplicate of an existing organism and Therapeutic cloning involves
creating copies of cells, which Humans can benefit from, e.g. organs.
Scientist chose to clone a sheep which sparked a Human Cloning Era in 1966. The creation of

A Strategy For Raising Curriculum Implementation
A Strategy for Raising Curriculum Implementation in Turkey
Introduction
These days using and transferring of knowledge in social, political and economic areas have changed
rapidly. A theory of learning that describes the central role that learners ever transforming mental
schemes play in their cognitive growth, constructivism powerfully informs educational practice
(Brooks and Brooks, 1999). With the new curriculums in Turkey, Ministry of National Education
(MONE) tries to encounter these changes in Turkish education system based on this theory but it faced
with low implementation rate issue. In this paper, the main factors of these challenges will be
analyzed. Based on these matters, possible solutions will be discussed; consequently, a strategy for
raising the implementation of new curriculum will be tried to attend to these matters in this paper.
The Education Curriculum Reform in Turkey
According to the statistics by the MONE there are approximately 18 million students at the primary,
lower secondary schools and upper secondary education level with more than 900,000 teachers
(MONE, 2015). In the last ten years, some development and improvement efforts have been attempted
in the education system in Turkey. The essential part of these efforts was developing new curriculums,
which was launched in 2005, for all levels of education. The idea behind these curricular reforms was
to change the curriculum from a subject centered to a learner centered one and change the

Decline And Rise Of Traditional Medicine
The Decline and Rise of Traditional Medicine
In his book The Inconvenient Indian, Thomas King makes reference to the greatly reduced
populations of the indigenous population caused by the arrival of western diseases. In this essay I
intend to explore the ways in which the trajectory of the first nation s community was forever changed
not just by the effects of land appropriation but also by other side effects of colonisation. I want to
review how the traditional methods of health care, which had serviced the indigenous population for
centuries, were challenged by the onslaught of new diseases and later pushed underground by the
government s assimilation attempts and how they have survived these challenges to meet the needs of
modern day indigenous Canadians.
In an early copy of The Scientific Monthly, Dr. Hrdlicka of the Smithsonian Institute, was quoted as
saying that before its discovery by Columbus, America was one of the most healthful of continents, if
not the most so. This health status could be attributed to the lifestyle of the indigenous people, their
food varying according to the locality where they lived, was meat, fish, vegetables (often eaten raw),
nuts, seeds and fruits. Few areas had all these possibilities but, since Indians ate every part of an
animal and every edible plant in their locality, they came close an optimal diet. Traditional healers or
medicine men as they became known to non indigenous people were an integral part of the indigenous

Analysis Of The Movie I Like The Way You Die
I like the way you die, boy Django said to Big John Brittle as John is shot to death by Django, an
African American free slave. That scene felt very satisfying especially since Big John Brittle was
about to whip a little poor slave girl. Hitler in Inglourious Basterds was killed by a Jewish solider who
got the opportunity to shoot Hitler multiple times in the torso and face; this Jewish solider had a look
of vengeance in his eyes as he shot him. Notice how both these films have a feel good story about how
someone weak was able to kill and defeat their oppressors. Looking at Tarantino s two recently films
from 2012 and 2009, Django Unchained and Inglourious Basterds, you see that Tarantino wanted to
make a film where the setting is in history s worst timeline along with the oppressed in that timeline
take down the oppressor. This notion seems to have a direct appeal to the audience s feelings; it gives
them a sense of justice that the cruel oppressors that controlled the oppressed in that timeline got
punishment and even death by the oppressed. Tarantino more recently films, including Django
Unchained, The Hateful Eight, and Inglourious Basterds, are all set in the past with Django Unchained
and Inglourious Basterds set in history s darkest timelines. Django Unchained is set in the 19th
century in the United States when slavery was legal and African Americans were treated sub human
while Inglourious Basterds setting was during the World War II/the holocaust. Django and

How To Build A Flat Roof
Turn to the Hammersmith Company in Burnsville, MN when you re looking for flat roofing experts.
Flat roofing is very popular on commercial buildings. However, this roofing style is also seen on some

lends itself to the lines of the modern styled home. When it comes time to install this kind of roof you
ll have to choose between different types. In the past, a sloped roof had a big advantage over a flat
one, it would last longer. The reason for this was that a sloped roof would allow snow, and rain to roll

Is Art Worth The Cost Of Education
Attending a university to study art is not the only way to learn the skills necessary to become an artist.
The sheer cost alone of university is enough to deem the degree unworthy of such a price. Individual
art books, technical skill experiences, and art shows can sum less than that cost. For each person to
determine the true cost of something, he or she must deem what they are paying for necessary. In
terms of education, with the sheer amount of money spent, the importance of making sure the degree
will be worth the cost is essential. This dissatisfaction could likely come from issues there are in other
universities. In an article about the return on investment of degree programs, 34% [of students] now

The Alaska Highway Essay
In 1942, fifteen thousand American soldiers and civilian laborers poured into Alberta, British
Columbia, and the Yukon to construct a highway stretching from mainland United States to Alaska. In
doing so, they had to overcome obstacles of climate, terrain, and manpower (see Figure 1). The
construction of the Alaska Highway serves an enlightening episode where Canadian and American
interest in northern development and continental defense became intertwined. The continental projects
in the North west, including the Alaska Highway, North West Staging route, and the CANOL pipeline

Funding and labour for the highway were provided by the United States, and so Ottawa looked
forward to acquiring, at American expense, an all weather road that would hold great commercial
value for the region in the post war. Worries of sovereignty were not the priority at this point in time
as the fate of the war still remained unsure in early 1942. In addition to the expected post war
economic benefits, the American presence served the wartime strategic aims of both the American and
Canadian Governments, as they urgently sought the continent against the possibility of encroachment
from both the Western threat of Japan and the eastern threat of Germany. This was particularly true
until 1943, as the fate as the war still uncertain. As the war began to strongly favour the Allies, the
Canadian government was able to re address concerns such as northern development and increasing its
involvement in north west defense projects. Until the end of the war, Canada maintained a policy to
mitigate potential issues arising from the continued need for continental defense projects that would
result in American presence within Canadian boundaries. The war years were an opportunity for the

focused on how the lives of working people were deteriorated because of the development of labor

a profound impact on both the Indians as well as the white settlers. Each one felt they were justified in

  • 3. Is Google Making Us Stupid Analysis In Is Google Making Us Stupid, Nicolas Carr demonstrates his point of view regarding the negative effect of google on the function of the brain. Carr believes that Google is having a tremendously negative effect on the function of the brain, and the fact that google is allowing individuals to solve complex problems quicker is causing damage to the brain. Neurons are significantly important particles in the brain, when the brain is not used for solving complex problems those neurons are most likely to die. Additionally, excessive usage of google results in weakening of reading and writing skills. The majority of the people who are exposed to the usage of google are noticing a dramatic change in function of their brain. • 4. Margrieter Vs. New Hotel The five elements of negligence that apply to the case of Mr. Margrieter V. New Hotel Monteleone, Inc are Duty, breach, cause in effect, proximal cause and harm (damage suffered as a proximal result of the defendant s breach of duty). Duty refers to an obligation one has to another party. If duty constrains and channels behavior in a socially responsible way (Owen, 2007), then the Hotel Menteloene has a duty to take reasonable measures to protect its guests from harm. Breach, an improper act or omission, can also be viewed as an element that exists in this case. The hotel did not provide adequate security, as it did not replace the security personnel that had called in sick. It is particularly a breach if the hotel has ... The hotel uses Mr. Margrieter s lack of clear memory of the events as a defense and his inability to return to New Orleans to identify his attackers as another defense, as he was stable enough to fly home to Denver for a Craniotomy (brain surgery). However, it does not require much in the way of mental capacity to take a flight on a commercial airline. A severe head injury and the subsequent recovery period after the brain surgery are limiting enough. The lack of evidence of the two men abducting Mr. Margrieter is perhaps the strongest argument the hotel can use. Without such evidence, it is difficult to prove that the actions of the hotel, such as inadequate security and failure to follow procedure in locking the freight elevator, led to Mr. Margrieter s injury. • 5. How Slums Are Constructed And Complex Economic, Social And... Across the world, whether it be in a first or a third world country, there are populations which tend to be segregated into communities and form part of the low socioeconomic status. These groups, usually termed slums , are heavily ostracised and are usually sought to be removed and stopped in their growth. Drawing from different locations as examples, I will firstly discuss how slums are established and the many complex economic, social and political issues which keep the slum alive in this modern age. There is also the matter of highlighting the way in which we define a slum and the people living within it and how this may affect slum growth. Lastly, I will make an allusion to measures that try and stop the advance of slums and their effectiveness. The origins and development of a slum are varied and complex. As there are a myriad of possible scenarios and variations, to avoid over complexity, there are a few key political, economic and social factors that are a running theme within the majority of slums. Most of these aspects transpire concurrently and are inextricably linked. One of the main causes of a slum s creation is due to rapid urbanisation in a city that is unable to keep up with the growing demands. The rapid influx of people to cities could be for several reasons: moving from rural areas to find work in bigger cities or migrating from a war torn country. Upon moving to these larger towns, they are unable to afford housing due to lower incomes in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1991, the Russian language did not even have a word or term that stressed the private property in land. Property belonged to all, and therefore to no one. After the Bolshevik revolution a forceful collectivization of the land property was carried out. This way a vital link between the peasantry who were the main workforce in the country and their object of work the land, their prime source of income and goods, was broken. The communist government vigorously was compelling the peasants to work tirelessly, for almost no profit, the salaries were the lowest in the country, so the pensions. Comparing Freud s Civilizations And Its Discontents As aforementioned, Freudian theory links desire to eroticism, and from the outset, this eroticism is evident in the earliest stages of our childhood, but where is this sexual fixation derived from? According to the father of psychoanalysis himself, this desire is derived from our parents as the object of said fixation. Wherein, the child desires to satisfy their sexual desires by replacing the opposite sex parent. As a rule a father prefers his daughter and a mother her son; the child reacts to this by wishing, if he is a son, to take his father s place, and, if she is a daughter, her mother s. (Freud, 1909). The Ego, according to Freud, perpetuates feelings from within us, and as such can be ascribed certain traits. Firstly, the boundaries of our Ego are not constant; the Ego s central role is to fend of displeasure from the external world. Wherein, the instinct of self preservation, and similar constructive and destructive principles are preserved within it. Furthermore, our Ego s do not necessarily die with us, using Rome as an example; we can see that certain developmental constructs crafted by our Egos have survived to modern day (i.e., Law). However, it remains that our Ego s primary purpose is to fend off displeasure, whilst maximizing pleasure; this becomes known as the pleasure principle. Accordingly, the unsatisfactory tenets of our own mortality, and the measures we are willing to go to avoid such displeasure are relatively drastic at times. As displeasure can be brought on by three distinct entities: our own bodies, the external world, and our relationships with other men. German novelist and poet, Theodore Fontane offers us some examples, as there are ...three such measures: powerful deflections, which cause us to make light of our misery; substitutive satisfactions, which diminish it; and intoxicating substances, which make us insensitive to it. (Freud, 1962). Ultimately, however, despite these coping mechanisms, our happiness and subsequent desires are ...a question of how much real satisfaction he can expect to get from the external world, how far he is led to make himself independent of it, and, finally, how much strength he feels he has for altering the world to suit his wishes (Freud, 1962). Therefore, according to Freud, desire is all about maximizing the pleasure principle through the principle of transference. He spent a lot of his time focusing on what one could do to earn eternal salvation as it was written about in the Bible. This was especially troubling to him given the actions of his colleagues at the University of Wittenberg and his fellow priests and monks. The University of Whittenberg held many sacred relics, including hairs said to have been from the Virgin Mary and the crown of thorns placed on Jesus head during crucifixion. But unlike the music industry and the American film industry (Mezias Mezias, 2000), there is not a diachronic dialectic between small firms and large firms in the stand up comedy industry. According to the resource partitioning theory, a theory conceptualized by Caroll in 1985, this dialectic exists when the big firms are competing with each other. The innovation was in how the Huns redesigned the bow. The Hunnic war bow was a compound bow which was reflexed , meaning that when unstrung it would actually curve in the opposite way it was intended to be used. The process for making these bows is incredibly complex. First horn from the Hungarian Grey Steer was cut into strips and filed smooth. It was then submerged in boiling water and it slowly straightened as it softened (the softening was not permanent; it only persists while the horn was being boiled) in the water. The now flat strips of horn were then filed down to their final thickness. A wood was selected for the core (of the bow limbs) and dried. The horn was then glued to the back of the wood and the limbs were glued to the handle. The ears (the part that curves backwards) were then carved (usually out of spruce because it is light and stiff) and glued to the end of the bow at roughly a forty five degree angle. The bow was then backed with layers of sinews (often deer leg tendons). Sometimes the joints between the ears and the limbs and the limbs and the handle were also bound with hide. Then the seven bone plaques are cut into rough trapezoids to match the contours of the bow and glued into place. Then the process of tuning the bow begins. Each part of the bow is heated and slowly curved until the entire bow is uniform. All told it can take years to properly make and tune a Hunnic bow if you include the time to cure the wood, sinews, and glue. The two greatest differences between the Hunnic bow and other compound bows are the asymmetry of the arms and the bone stiffeners in the ears and handle. The bone plates are trapezoidal to better fit together along the contours of the bow, and they were deliberately scratched and roughened to ensure the glue would hold. Overcrowded jails are an issue that has been impacting the United States jail populace for a considerable length of time. The author illustrated assessment about this issue and furthermore gives some contrasting option to take care of the issues particularly Riker Island. As agreed by Marlin Horn (2015), takes credit for bringing needed attention to conditions at the jails, calls for the appointment of a federal monitor and identifies the long time president of the collective bargaining agent for the Correction Officers as an impediment to reform . I have been a volunteer worker for two years and almost every day I visit this magnificent place. My attendance began when I was a high school student looking to complete community service work mandatory for every student. Ever since my first visit, I have thoroughly enjoyed assisting the residents living in Avery Heights throughout my high school experience and beyond. Whether spending time with dementia and Alzheimer s patient or enjoying the twist and turns of the puzzle solving and Friday Bingo games with the healthy residents, I developed a sense of compassion, love, and gratitude toward them. My attraction to the Heights was mainly because of volunteering. I helped residents with any technological issues that they faced, from fixing old VCR players so they could watch their favorites 90s TV shows to teaching them how to access the nursing home Wi Fi and creating an email account which were a truly rewarding experiences. During a cold Saturday night, I informed my volunteer coordinator Jackie, a music therapist researching the impact of music on Alzheimer s patients that I would like to attend the Sunday service prayer to gain a new prospective about a faith to which I had little to no exposure. The possibility of human cloning has raised complications. These ethical concerns have provoked several nations to pass laws regarding human cloning and its legality. • 29. Decline And Rise Of Traditional Medicine The Decline and Rise of Traditional Medicine In his book The Inconvenient Indian, Thomas King makes reference to the greatly reduced populations of the indigenous population caused by the arrival of western diseases. In this essay I intend to explore the ways in which the trajectory of the first nation s community was forever changed not just by the effects of land appropriation but also by other side effects of colonisation. I want to review how the traditional methods of health care, which had serviced the indigenous population for centuries, were challenged by the onslaught of new diseases and later pushed underground by the government s assimilation attempts and how they have survived these challenges to meet the needs of modern day indigenous Canadians. In an early copy of The Scientific Monthly, Dr. Hrdlicka of the Smithsonian Institute, was quoted as saying that before its discovery by Columbus, America was one of the most healthful of continents, if not the most so. This health status could be attributed to the lifestyle of the indigenous people, their food varying according to the locality where they lived, was meat, fish, vegetables (often eaten raw), nuts, seeds and fruits. Few areas had all these possibilities but, since Indians ate every part of an animal and every edible plant in their locality, they came close an optimal diet. That scene felt very satisfying especially since Big John Brittle was about to whip a little poor slave girl. Hitler in Inglourious Basterds was killed by a Jewish solider who got the opportunity to shoot Hitler multiple times in the torso and face; this Jewish solider had a look of vengeance in his eyes as he shot him. Notice how both these films have a feel good story about how someone weak was able to kill and defeat their oppressors. Looking at Tarantino s two recently films from 2012 and 2009, Django Unchained and Inglourious Basterds, you see that Tarantino wanted to make a film where the setting is in history s worst timeline along with the oppressed in that timeline take down the oppressor. This notion seems to have a direct appeal to the audience s feelings; it gives them a sense of justice that the cruel oppressors that controlled the oppressed in that timeline got punishment and even death by the oppressed. The sheer cost alone of university is enough to deem the degree unworthy of such a price. Individual art books, technical skill experiences, and art shows can sum less than that cost. Melvyn Dubofsky s Industrialism and the American Worker, focused on how the lives of working people were deteriorated because of the development of labor and what conditions these people faced. Douglas Blackmon s Slavery by Another Name, provided evidence that slavery did not end along with the Civil War and that African Americans continued to be enslaved and exploited under the system. In the era when capitalism was booming workers faced very harsh working conditions and little job security. The workers were the very last ones to benefit from their own work, the products of capitalism invariably benefit[ed] the wealthy first (DiLorenzo, pg.96).
