Essay On Buffalo Bill
A Common Meal
Buffalo Bills restaurant is a well known restaurant that sits at the heart of Hayward on B Street. It is
surrounded by a chain of many other fine dining restaurants, but none as good as the western inspired
Buffalo Bills. On the outside of the restaurant at first glance it reminds you of an old Italian place, yet
the name Buffalo Bills set your mind at askew when you notice the western title compared to the
Italian landscape outside. Buffalo Bills has a variety of delicious Soups, Burgers, Pizzas, Desserts and
assorted appetizers. Although their menu seems to be very simple, it s the simplicity that catches the
eye. Yesterday I visited Buffalo Bills restaurant, and I must say their main goal is to keep their
customers happy and make them want to come back. The customers seem to enjoy the enthusiasm that
Buffalo Bills portrays within the eating environment, service, and the amazing food.
As soon as the guests walk in this restaurant, they get a great sense of relaxation. With all the
decorations it makes guests feel like they are in a good ole fashion Ho down with a modern twist of
course. The décor includes very vivid painting from modern western inspired artists. The painting are
very complemented by the dim orange lighting. Also, the restaurant is wrapped in ridged tin wall
paper that waves in and out and with every wave it also reflects the lighting off the wall. The
restaurant offers a casual feel in which people feel more sedated, and comfortable as

Success In George Gladwell s Individualistic Means Of Success
Success has long been viewed as a result of an individual s determination and in some cases, innate
talent. Said individual would generally be of a less fortunate background and rise to triumph with
seemingly no assistance from others. Conversely, Gladwell argues against this individualistic
approach to analyzing success. He instead argues that It is only by asking where they [successful
people] are from that we can unravel the logic behind who succeeds and who doesn t. Gladwell looks
deeper into the environment from which the successful spring and, using logic, thoroughly explains
every aspect that lead to their success.
Texting has revolutionized the way humans communicate in more ways than merely increasing the
speed at which they transmit information. For Instance, Common texting abbreviations such as lol or
rotfl have become ingrained into the culture of many first world countries and are now used in
everyday conversation. Though the individual speaking or typing these abbreviations is not actually
transmitting recognizable English words, there is a mutual understanding between the ones
communicating of what each series of letters means. The meanings of the words are not obscured in
any way.
When biologists examine the ecology of an organism, they observe not only that organism s traits but
also its environment. The biologist looks at things such as the surrounding organisms and how much
of a threat they are to an organism s survival, the accessibility of resources to the organism. In short,
the biologist looks at the organism s environment and sees what advantages it has had that allowed it
to survive, and in some cases, thrive. This is similar to the way in which Malcolm Gladwell describes
Accumulative Advantage . When Gladwell analyzes a successful person s rise to triumph, he takes
into account the person s environment. He looks at things such as birth date, social attitude, economic
trends, and genealogy to try to piece together what opportunities could have been an advantage and
what advantages could have accumulated (hence the term Accumulative Advantage) in a person s life
to propel them to their current successful status.
Innate talent is not so much a

LAM Lung Disease
LAM lung disease, also known as lymphangioleiomyomatosis, is a rare degenerative disease. LAM
was first discovered in the early 1990 s. Because the symptoms of LAM so closely relates to
symptoms such as asthma and emphysema, the disease took some time to develop medical opinion. In
1994, a particular event took place to create an official organization to battle the new disease. After
LAM was officially diagnosed in Sue Byre s 22 year old daughter, she launched the LAM Foundation
in 1995 and dedicated her time and funds to researching the growing threat. LAM is almost
exclusively found in women, with only four reported cases found within men. There are confirmed
diagnoses of 2,000 women, with an estimate of as many as 300,000 women worldwide ... Show more

A computed tomography has been shown to be the most effective in spotting this illness. LAM is
typically a slowly progressing disease, but victims can suffer spontaneous collapses or lung failure.
Inevitably, a final drastic measure will include a lung transplant, however that is only temporary.
There is no known cure for this disease. There are however methods to placate symptoms. Aside from
bilateral transplant, oxygen therapy can be used to further slow or abate the neoplastic development.
Experimental suggestions such as hormones have been implemented. Due to the strong belief that
estrogen plays a role in LAM development, there are hopes that hormone therapy can aid the fight on
the condition. So far with trials, there are no known supporting results from this method. Women who
have been diagnosed with this disease were given a timeframe of a typical 5 10 years for survival rate.
Although seemingly hopeless, some patients had been shown to extend that duration to roughly 20
years. There just may be hope in this battle against this disease. Drug trials are in effect and some
promise may be showing from data thus

The College of Corpus Christi and the Blessed Virgin Mary
The College of Corpus Christi and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Founded 1352 by The Guild of Corpus Christi and The Guild of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Sister
College Corpus Christi College Oxford.
Men and Women Undergraduates 253 Postgraduates 220.
Corpus Christi is unique in the university for being the only college founded by town and not gown in
other words established by town s people and not the ruling class or clergy. The Guild of Corpus
Christi and the Guild of the Blessed Virgin Mary pooled resources and were granted a licence by
Edward III to build what was the eighth Cambridge college, in 1352.
City mayor reminds college of its roots
The original court was modest and supported a master and two fellows. They would have studied
theology and canon law, along with their responsibilities as chaplains to the guild. The town s people,
led by the mayor, stormed the college in 1381, reminding it of its roots, protesting about the hated
candle rents , levied upon its domestic properties. This led to further peasant protests that King
Richard soon brought to a brutal conclusion.
Trumpington Street
Corpus is one of a cluster of impressive colleges and buildings facing Trumpington Street, the south
approach road into central Cambridge. On the east side is Corpus and Pembroke while on the west
side is the fabulous Neoclassical Fitzwilliam Museum along side Peterhouse and St Catherine s

1.According To Industry Analysts, Acquisition Can Increase
1.According to industry analysts, acquisition can increase the company s global footprint, which
means it can achieve publicity on an international scale. It is conducive for Tata to increase the
company s business diversity across markets and product segments, which brings Tata advanced
technology, low cost engineering and design to the industry. Based on Market analyses, acquisition is
a fast way to bring the brand into a new market. The competitive advantage was the main supplier of
automotive high grade steel to JLR and other automobile industries in the US and Europe. Jaguar s
vehicles are high profit margins in case they can offer a range of Luxury vehicles to broaden the brand
portfolio internationally.

Besides, from the experience the Nano has in the India market, we can clearly see the pros and cons
that fit with customers needs. But, there may be threats that come from strong competitors like BMW,
Lexus, and Mercedes. It is undeniable that the weakness of brand image for Tata and new products
and market buildings are also big problems. The cons for Tata are challenges from other competitors
since they share the risk with each other and unclearly market shares. The last action Tata may choose
is complementary strategic. Tata can grow a competitive advantage if they purchase Jaguar and Land
Rover. The pro in this situation is that it can bring the well known brands emerging in the Indian car
market an opportunity. Admittedly that offers Tata a high certification across the global market within
a brief period. The cons may have is partners fail to use their resources in the market or inadequate
contracts unsure creating value chain.
4. I think the diversifying strategic alliance is the best option for Tata, because we know in a long way
Tata Motors were highly dependent on Indian markets. So in that way, it will be less dependent on the
Indian market. As a key to acquisition, if Tata purchase Jaguar and Land Rover, it can bring separate
market share reputation and more. In this case, Tata can avoid the damage to brand image. Besides,
Jaguar and Land Rover both can increase the design services and sourcing like low cost

Language and Power AQAA level English Language B Essay
Language and power 1
Power is gained in many ways throughout the text. Text I has been written, primarily, to persuade an
audience to share their (bwag) views on the new Sainsburys being built in their medieval heritage
town of Bishops Waltham, therefore it is aimed at residents of the town who are old enough to write a
valid letter of complaint age 18 70. Firstly, imperatives are used to be assertive right from the
beginning of the text. The word write in write a letter today immediately sets a forward and confident
tone to the text, making the matter seem important. As Bishops Waltham is a town without a
superstore, this suggests it is small. This also suggests that the bwag group is also small therefore may

As the law is seen as a very serious matter by everyone, the use of jargon and words that have
connotations of the law, backs up the seriousness that the text is trying to portray. Although the piece
asserts influential power, using jargon of the law makes it seem as if instrumental power is being
asserted. These abstract nouns add a severe tone to the piece which forces the audience to think of
consequences too. Because the consequence of a Sainsburys being built is exaggerated ...the huge
increase in traffic. and ...destroy the vitality. Panic is aroused within the reader as to what might
happen if they don t abide by what they re being told to do as well as thinking of the guilt that they
will feel. This leads to the bwag group gaining power over the audience by making them feel guilty
and putting blame on them if a Sainsburys were to be built. Due to the group proclaiming serious
consequences on the towns people if they do not write letters, the consequences seem drastic, once
again making it feel like instrumental power in the form of the law they have no choice to follow the
instructions as there will be consequences.
In addition, bias is also used to sway the audience decision, making them agree with their (bwag)
views and therefore gaining respect as the audience now see that what they are trying to do is right and
should therefore look up to them. By listing off different negative

novel, Flight to Canada by Ishmael Reed, manipulation is used by two characters, President Abraham

where aspects of modern time like planes have been incorporated into the setting. The plot of Flight to

Lincoln needs gold for the war. The Union is broke and has many debts but still obviously needs to
continue fighting the war. Therefore, President Lincoln must go behind enemy lines, and meet with
Mr. Swille, the wealthiest man in the country. Lincoln is in the odd position of assuming a more
submissive role even though he is the President of the country. This is how his strategy starts out.
Lincoln is going to compliment and treat Swille like he is head and shoulders better than Lincoln,
even if he doesn t believe that. The first thing that comes out of Lincolns mouth to Swille is setting the
tone for the conversation: Mr. Swille, it s a pleasure, he says, extending his hand to Swille, who sits
behind a desk rumored to have been owned by Napoleon III. I m a small time lawyer and now I find
myself in the room of the mighty... (Reed 23). Lincoln here brings himself lower than Swille by
reminding him that he is just a small time lawyer from Illinois. It is a tactic that for most people would
be taken and realized what he is trying to do but not mentioned. Swille however, isn t that type of
man: Cut the yokel dokel, Lincoln, I don t have all day. What s on your mind Swille rejects Lincoln s
hand, at which Lincoln stares hurt (Reed 23). Lincoln is seemingly surprised by Swilles actions, or
perhaps realizing he will have to change tactics to achieve what he wants. In either case, his strategy
must change. A fighter is what Swille wants to see, a challenge perhaps. Mr. Swille travels all over the
world having people treat him like a god, and what he wants is someone to show that they have
qualities that can help Swille. Lincoln doesn t come out this way until after Swille has threatened and
made jokes of everything Lincoln has from his wife to his political

The Masque Of Blackness Essay
In 17th Century England, the idea of different races and cultures was new, and therefore, a novelty;
anything that differed from the norm was highly valued and sought after. Noble people and
professional actors took advantage of this and put on The Masque of Blackness, a production in which
many of its actors appeared in blackface. The masques were elaborate performances, made to praise
the monarch, with larger than life costumes and staging that combined songs, dances, and acting into a
presentation that depicted gods and goddesses, and pastoral settings. Although the play is meant to be
for entertainment, it begins to cross lines when the performance becomes a spectacle of racism and
exoticism. In Benjamin Jonson s The Masque of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But eventually, his fame led him to King James court. At the request of Queen Anne of Denmark, wife
to King James I of England, he wrote The Masque of Blackness. The masque was written as the
discovery of the New World and global expansion into Africa was occurring. This influx of new
cultures, races, religions, and other ideas created the perfect chance for Jonson to bring these concepts
to the court stage and please the monarchs whom the praise would be focused on.
The Masque of Blackness first premiered in 1605 in the banquet hall of Whitehall Palace in London,
England at the height of global expansion. The banquet hall itself was temporary at this time, but was
later built by the architect, Inigo Jones, who also staged The Masque of Blackness. It was rebuilt in
1619 after the previous hall burned down in a fire and completed. The hall was used for entertainment
purposes, especially designed to put on the elaborate masques and other performances. Queen Anne
and her ladies of the court got to be the main characters of the masque because of Anne s status and
because she chose the topic. Jonson annotates in the masque: Hence, because it was her majesty s will
to have them blackmoors at first, the invention was derived by me. If he wanted to maintain his
position and recognition, Jonson had to cater to the monarch s wishes for the

issues in my career field. One of the issues I have noticed in my career path is the negative
connotation towards counterintelligence agents. This exists for several reasons, lazy agents,
inexperienced agents, or lack of knowledge of commanders. My goal is teach to younger agents there
is always something they can be doing some kind of counterintelligence related work anywhere they

Opioid Agonists
Effects of opioids on the gastrointestinal tract
Dona Pham1, Annie Hua1 and Cindy Kaing1
1 BP311 B, School of Medical Sciences, RMIT University.
Background and Aims: Opioid agonists, such as morphine and codeine, causes a reduction in
acetylcholine (ACh) release from presynaptic ganglionic nerves. It is reported that tolerance develops
following prolonged exposure to these drugs. The aim was to compare two opiate agonists and
investigate the effects of opioid antagonist (naloxone) on morphine. This study also examines whether
or not prolonged exposure to morphine results in the development of tolerance.
Methods: A guinea pig ileum was suspended in an organ bath and superfused with oxygenated,
physiological salt solution. The twitch height changes were recorded using LabChart. Cumulative
concentration response curves (CRC) were constructed for codeine and morphine using bath
concentrations between 10 6 M to 10 4 M and between 10 8 M to 10 5 M, respectively. Naloxone (10
7 M) was added before the experiment and after the first morphine CRC. Tissue desensitisation was
performed for morphine (5x10 6 M) while the effects of naloxone (10 7 M) on morphine were
observed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The twitch responses for codeine ( 21.16% at 10 5 M) were lower than those in morphine ( 89.08% at

responses. Following tissue desensitisation with morphine, the twitch responses decreased with
increasing concentrations, from 18.66% at 10 8 M to 8.33% M at 10 5 M. The change in twitch height
of naloxone decreased from the beginning of the experiment ( 5.16%) to the end of the morphine CRC
( 4.25%). In the presence of naloxone, however, there is no twitch height change detected as morphine

The Influence Of The Modern Period In British And Irish...
The modernist period in British and Irish literature was one of the most important and exciting times
in literary history. The term modernist stemmed from the beginning of the 20th century labelled the
modern period. The modern period was a time of confusion and transitions, mostly due to the result of
people returning from World War I. The modern period was an era of massive unemployment and
technological changes. Freud, Jung, and Marx were redefining human identity, Assembly lines and
factories were being introduced, and gender differences were starting to crumble. The modern period
was a time of change, and the field of Literature was no exception. Susan Gorsky, in her book titled

Poetry, Drama, and fiction were subjected to intensive scrutiny and extensive redefinition, producing
some of the most unusual and often difficult literary creations in English: Eliot s Wasteland, Yeat s
Plays for Dancers, and the fiction of Joyce and Lawrence is some examples. Modernist literature
reflects in it s structure as well as in it s content the overturning of tradition; the instances upon new
design produced plays and stories without plots or recognizably human characters, poems without
rhyme or meter (16, 17). The Modernist author was able to identify with their audience by creating
stories that not only asked important questions, but also got under the reader s skin. In George Orwell
s essay titled Inside the Whale, he addresses the fact that James Joyce s Ulysses is remarkable due to
the fact of its commonplaceness of its material. (Inside The Whale and Other Essays, 11). The reader
is able to put themselves in the characters shoes, the characters are very three dimensional, and like
modern life their stories are not so much like a fairy tales, as they are of everyday life. The character
Joyce creates in Ulysses enters many different states of consciousness, dream states, drunkenness....
demonstrating the ability modern literature has in relating the ideas of consciousness, in a way that the
reader would be able to identify with. Orwell goes further to say that Ulysses was filled with a Whole

There was a great deal of planning and because it was for a dinner and dance, planning was essential.
In this respect, the cost of the dinner and dance was justifiable to meet financial objectives. The dinner

The Open Destiny of Life
The Open Destiny of Life
In the short story A Conversation with My Father, written by Grace Paley, there are two stories
intertwined. The main story is about a visit between a middle aged woman and her elderly, bedridden
father. It is during this visit that the two of them discuss fiction and give their opinion towards tragedy
in literature and in life. The second is a story that the daughter creates for her father at his request. She
proceeds to tell him a story about a mother who, in order to be closer to her drug addicted son, decides
to experiment with the same drug and becomes a drug addict herself, only to be deserted by the son
when he rises above his dependency. Building on her relationship with her own father, Paley ... Show

Finally, it is obvious that these two stories mirror each other in the sense that they are about tenuous
but essential connections between parents and their children. The daughter abhors the kind of story her
father wants because it is limiting. He, meanwhile, rejects her tale because he sees in it her inability to
face tragic realities of fiction and life, including his impending death. Their different attitudes towards
the possibility of opportunities and change, fictional or real, stem from their different world views and
experiences. She went to college, but dropped out to become a writer, hoping to win his affection. He
loves her, but does not approve of her dropping out of school, her writing style, or her views on life. In
the narrative she creates for him, the father she would rather have surfaces as the mother who uses
drugs as a means of being closer to be her son. One wonders what his perfect daughter would have
been like, had he written the tale. Would he have wanted her to be more like him? Would he have
preferred her to be inferior? Would everything have been different? . . . maybe.
Throughout the story, two reoccurring themes are experience and opportunity. The narrator believes
that fiction should reflect the opportunities of life not available to previous generations. In
comparison, her father prefers the works of authors with whom he can relate, the kind of writers who
spoke of a

The s Quest For Meaning
Two mice, nibbling and gnawing, representing the inexorable entity, time, which exists as a constant
threat to humanity; a dark pit with death as the only certainty; a ferocious beast forbidding escape; a
single branch offering delay; a drop of honey attempting to conceal inevitable peril. The powerful
metaphor embedded in this Buddhist parable serves as the platform for Leo Tolstoy (A Confession) in
his quest for meaning. It offers a simplistic illustration of the common predicament faced by all of
mankind, to which Tolstoy and fellow thinkers, Sigmund Freud (Civilization and Its Discontents) and
C.S. Lewis (The Abolition of Man) attempt to provide a solution. Each thinker offers a unique
conclusion based upon their respective definitions of the problem and its perpetuating influences. The
thinkers focus their investigation on the authority of science, instinct, and faith. Tolstoy is distinct in
his ability to rationalize toward a purpose independent of mankind itself; he alters the circumstances
of life rather than man s capability to deal with such circumstances. Freud and Lewis confine their
respective reasonings to the continuation and progression of mankind so as to better cope with the
predicament of man. Their theories on the improvement of man and civilization serve only to extend
the torment of mankind.
Tolstoy does not hesitate to dismiss the significance of science as an answer to the predicament of
man. He quotes Solomon explaining that in much wisdom is much

The Development Of Carbon Fibre
The Development of Carbon Fibre in Formula 1. What is carbon fibre? Carbon fibre is an extremely
strong material that is also super lightweight. The material has many uses in engineering and design,
and this case study will discuss the advantages and disadvantages. McLaren first introduced carbon
fibre into chassis construction of the MP4 in 1981. Apart from the cars engine, wheel rims and
gearbox, all twenty two Formula 1 cars that competed in the 2014 season bodies, are made of carbon
fibre. [1] Properties of Carbon fibre. Design technicians and engineers love to use carbon fibre in
manufacturing as it has many desirable properties. First of all is its strength. Carbon fibre is five times
stronger than steel and is twice as stiff [2]. The strands of carbon are lined up parallel to each other
when producing a sheet. For maximum results in strength, the fibres must be parallel with the forces
that will act upon that element, this is to make sure it can withstand the forces going through the
object when in use. Carbon fibre is also very lightweight. This property is a huge advantage in car
production. By using carbon fibre instead of steel in building car components reduces the weight of
the car by 60% [2]. In turn, this reduction in weight cuts the car s fuel consumption by 30% and
reduces greenhouse gases and other emissions by 15%[2]. Below shows a detailed table of the
strength to weight ratio of carbon fibre. Carbon fibre also shows that it is a leading 21st

The Abnormal Role Of Flooding In New York City
A report by the New York Office of Emergency Management states that in the 1990 s the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineer found that New York City s low lying heavily populated neighborhoods are more
exposed to the threat of coastal flooding in a hurricane than was previously realized. This projection
was illuminated during Hurricanes Irene in 2011 and Sandy in 2012. The storm surge in Battery Park
along the lower east side of Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy was 9.41 feet surpassing the record set
by Hurricane Donna in 1960. New York City is close to the Atlantic Ocean. Lower Manhattan defined
by the North of 14th Street, the West by the Hudson River, the East by the East River and the South by
New York Harbor is surrounded by water and was one of the hardest hit areas during Hurricane Sandy.
The area is situated in Flood Zone A, a geographical area designated by the Federal Emergence
Management Association to be at risk for either coastal or riverine flooding. Mandatory evacuation
was ordered for this area before the hurricane made landfall because of the location and potential of
massive flooding due to the adverse effect of a storm surge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Explain How The Law Enforcement Powers And...
Through the Law Enforcement Powers and Responsibilities Act 2002 (NSW) (LEPRA), police have
certain powers to help them do their jobs and enforce the law. But these powers that police have been
granted also have limits to help protect the rights of the victim, the suspect and the society particularly
when these powers affect the civil liberties of members in the community whom the police serve as
stated by the former Attorney General Robert Debus.
According to LEPRA, the main powers police are granted are to detain and question suspects, search
property and seize evidence, use technologies that may help the case (i.e mobile phones, computers),
use reasonable force is absolutely necessary and, as a last resort, arrest and interrogate the suspect(s).
They also have the power to recommend to the magistrate whether bail should be granted to suspects.

Propaganda in American Media Essay
Propaganda in American Media
One of the greatest revolutions in the twentieth century was not political in nature, however, it aided in
many different political revolutions. This revolution was the communications revolution. The
twentieth century has experienced one of the greatest changes in means of communication including
technologies such as radio, motion pictures, the Internet, advanced communications and most
importantly the television. Sadly, political leaders and the government to convince or persuade the
masses that their ideas supercede those of others have utilized these technologies. Television, more so
than any other form of communication, has been the ultimate tool of the propaganda effort. It is the

Therefore, what we mostly see on the screen is what the sponsors promote, which are usually
mechanisms to keep society stable. This exactly what American media was doing from the muckrakers
of the 20 s to the war in Kosovo in the 90 s. Let us now look at some examples of the use of TV as a
mean of control over society. Before January 1991, public opinion polls showed that the American
public was split into two groups, 50% each, about whether the U.S. should attack Iraq or not.
Historians say however, if any anti war voices had been heard in the mass media at this time, the
outcome could have been completely different. The second example turns out to be a tragic one, when
we talk about the freedom of speech. After the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the pictures of
the irradiated Japanese were not made available to the American public until the 1980 s. In both cases
we see the control of society through TV, by those who control it, and directing society toward a
certain destination, which is found to be the way forward for the humanity , and keeping the system
together by creating a popular culture based on consumerism; turns out to be a modern way of
practicing authority in our lives. Unites States government is by far not the only organization that has
utilized methods of propaganda

Rate Of Car Collision
Abstract
As drivers age, their risk of being involved in a car collision decreases. The present study investigated
if this trend is due, in part, to some risky drivers having a collision early in their driving lives and
subsequently reducing their risky driving after that negative experience. Accelerometers and video
cameras were installed in the vehicles of 16 to 17 year old drivers (N= 254), allowing coders to
measure the number of g force events (i.e., events in which a threshold acceleration level was
exceeded) per 1,000 miles and the number of collisions. Among the 41 participants who experienced a

How Did The Global Economic Crisis Affect Canada
The 2000s was an extremely eventful decade for Canadians, with fierce federal elections taking place
and numerous disasters, such as the Toronto Explosions making a great deal of destruction. However,
an event that left lasting effects was the 2008 global economic crisis, which due to its influence on the
U.S and China, significantly impacted Canada s economy and society. Although the crisis had a very
negative effect on Canada, it also allowed the government, businesses, banks and citizens to learn
from the struggles of the recession and allow Canada to emerge as a stronger and more successful
nation. With the growing integration of the global economies, the financial crisis had a number of

400, 000 jobs were lost across the country as every single sector, such as retail, manufacturing,

obstacles arose for those attempting to get out of the financial crisis which got stronger by each

Canadians had looked toward the government for solutions, but had no success. Along with the federal

that Canadians should invest in the stock market even though it was facing historic lows and was slow
in taking action to strengthen Canada s economy. Furthermore, many of the initiatives the government

In this article, FoxNews.com reports Dr. Steven Claes and Dr. Johan Bellemans, knee surgeons from
the University Hospitals Leuven in Belgium, have been conducting revolutionary human knee anterior
cruciate ligament (ACL) tear research by dissecting cadaver knees for the last four years. The two
knee surgeons were trying to find out the reason patients, who had undergone ACL repair, experienced
a condition called pivot shift (i.e., intermittent periods in which the knee destabilizes). The article
states the two knee surgeons identified a novel knee ligament, which they termed anterolateral
ligament (ALL), which, when damaged contributed to the pivot shift knee condition.

Impact Of Slavery On The Indian Ocean
Slavery in the Western Hemisphere has had an unmistakable impact on the the world and for those
who live in the United States of America, it s impact is still seen today. For the most part this impact
has been negative on the United States seeing as though it brought about immense racial tension
between blacks and whites which is still today, crippling the nation. This type of slavery did not allow
for upward mobility in the slave community. Seeing that Slavery across the Indian Ocean was not
based upon race, and more upon social class and sexuality, there was more of a sense of upward
mobility in the Indian Ocean slave trade than there was in the transatlantic slave trade which involved
more brutal treatment based upon race. Today, slavery is known as one of the most inhumane acts of
mankind. Slaves were brought over from their countries, mainly from the western and southern coast
of Africa, to work for the Europeans without pay. Not only were they without pay, they were brought
over in boats, packed on all decks of the ship in such a way that was comparable to a can of sardines.
Slaves were taken and shipped to countries in South America and North America, to work on
plantations to harvest plants such as, Tobacco, Cotton, Sugarcane, and Indigo. These slaves worked 20
hour days on these plantations and were rewarded with slave quarters which were in most cases in
unlivable conditions. No matter what state of health a slave was in, they were expected to work

The Flight, Everything Changed My Life
The Flight
Everything changed . My way of thinking changed. My idea of the world changed . My reasons for
studying changed . My way of sleeping changed . Everything changed when I got off that plane . But
it was still me . I still wanted to play. I still wanted to get a car . I still wanted to waste my time . I still

anyway . I didn t even know if I needed to study. I could have died at any time a missile could have hit
my house, or a bullet could have hit me in the head.
It was hard on me. It was hard on my family. It was especially hard on my mom, she almost had a
nervous breakdown. She was always sad and crying. If we ever talked about how the city was or about
politics, she would start crying. Whenever one of my aunts called we had to tell them to not talk about
that stuff. She wouldn t let my sisters nor my cousins play in the yard, neither would my aunts. Now
that I think about it, they were right. They really could have been killed. They could have got killed by
a drive by shooter that had no reason except his desire to kill another person. They could have been
kidnapped, and maybe return for a ransom. I was confused why my mom felt like that. It was true that
we were in a city that was in a war and the city was very dangerous, but the war was on the sides of
the city or that s what I thought. On the other side of my family, my dad s side, things

U.s. Foreign Policy Approaches
The United States (U.S.) uses two approaches to their foreign policy. The first approach is realism.
This viewpoint stresses that the principal actors, states, will pursue their own interests in an anarchical
world. States will try to establish a balance of power that restrains aggressive states from dominating
weaker ones. The second approach is idealism. This view stresses that states should transform the
system into a new international order where peace can prevail. This approach emphases the spread of
democracy across the world and the creation of international institutions. Realism and idealism
provides an explanation to how U.S. foreign policy has developed since World War Two (WWII),
identifies which influential factors play a role in both foreign policy approaches, and determines
which view has best served the pursuit of national interests. The realist and idealist approaches are
important in explaining the swinging pendulum path American foreign policy took since WWII. Over
the past seventy years, U.S. foreign policy switches between these two approaches. After WWII
ended, idealistic U.S. policymakers believed that cooperation between the United States and Soviet
Union would transform the world to a more cooperative and peaceful one. This idealistic belief was
quickly demolished by the Soviet expansions in Turkey and Greece and the destruction of the hopes of
U.S. Soviet cooperation after WWII. So, U.S. policymakers switched to a realist approach in a

Charles Dickens believed it was up to him to inform the people of Britain of the social problems
occurring around Britain. While Dickens was a young man, he suffered from poverty along with his
mother and father. His father was imprisoned for dept and Charles wanted to become a social
reformer. Dickens used these problems as themes for his book ‘A Christmas Carol . These themes
involve poverty, pollution and a changing of ways. Dickens used Scrooge, the main character in the

Dickens makes the ghost of Christmas past seem peaceful and affectionate by his description. By

God In The Code Of Gilgamesh And The Hebrew Bible
God in The Hebrew Bible is quite difficult to span, often being quite incongruous in nature, as there
are ...odd contradictions and repetitions in the narrative... (The Hebrew Bible 151) especially in
relation to God. However, God is quite similar to the gods from The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Code
of Hammurabi as ...like the humans made in his image... [he is] ... willing to scheme and make deals...
(153). Specifically, in relation to The Code of Hammurabi, ...Moses goes to hear the word of God...
and the Ten Commandments are revealed to him (155), these commandments are ...rules of ethical and
religious conduct (155). The Ten Commandments, God s words, seem to be inspired, at least in part,
by Hammurabi s code, as they both seem to try to ...further the well being of mankind (The Code of
Hammurabi 1). Not only are God s words reminiscent of that of the deities in The Code of Hammurabi
and The Epic of Gilgamesh, God is also destructive in many ways, even excluding the great flood that
appears in both The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Hebrew Bible. God creates the serpent...most cunning
of all the beasts of the field... (The Hebrew Bible 160). The Hebrew Bible is riddled with common

Private Schools And Public Schools

Gov/Econ

The government is the reason we have order, safety, schools, roads, and many more things that we don
t think too much about in our everyday lives. There are two branches of government the Democrats,
and the Republicans. Our president, Donald Trump, is a republican. He believes in more investment in
our military than our schooling. We already took a pay cut in our schooling system because of that,
and the money that is going towards our schools are either going to public or private schools. But is it
really necessary for the government to fund private schools when students already have to pay tuition?
The government should be funding more towards public schooling.
By funding private schools, what will happen to the public schools that rely on that money from the
government to provide an education to the students in their community? What if the public schools
close, and the only other option that is reasonably close is a private school? A lot of people cannot
afford the tuition cost of private schools. The average cost of a private elementary school in Michigan
is 9,000 dollars per year. When kids move up to high school the cost jumps up to 13,500 dollars per
year. (Average Private School Cost, 1) Most middle class families cannot afford the tuition, and also

William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
Isolation of Characters in As I Lay Dying As I Lay Dying was an extremely successful novel written
by an American author named William Faulkner in 1930. Each of the characters in the novel are given
traits that are expressed throughout the story to reveal their true identities. Faulkner utilizes first
person point of view that shifts from one character to another to allow the reader to enter the mind of
each character and experience their inner thoughts. All the characters live very similar lives however
we can see the complete isolation and the breakdown of the relationships throughout the novel. The
three main characters that really contribute to the deteriorating family relationships are Darl, Jewel,
and Anse. First off is Anse Bundren, the head of the household, husband to Addie for over thirty years,
and father to Darl, Jewel, Vardaman, and Dewey Dell. Anse is lazy and selfish, and relies greatly on
his family and friends. Anse s constant selfishness is an important factor in his alienation from the rest
of the family. For example, the journey to Jefferson to bury his dead wife was a promise he made to
Addie, but during the trip he is only concerned with bettering himself. Despite all the turmoil along
the way, and the fact that Addie s body is rotting Anse s main objective of the trip to Jefferson is
acquiring a new set of teeth. Addie s death enables Anse by giving him a solid motive to travel to
Jefferson while his real motive is the new set of teeth. After Addie

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Membrane Filtration
The increased cost of water consumption and wasteful require treatment process that is integrated with
the circuits of water on the ground rather than as a subsequent treatment (19). From this point of view,
membrane filtration offers a potential application. The processes that use membranes offer exciting
possibilities for separation of dyestuffs and dyeing auxiliaries that reduce simultaneously hydrolysed
color and biochemical oxygen demand /chemical oxygen demand of wastewater; generally used to
treat effluent reactive dye bath, that could potentially reduce the volume of waste and recovery
simultaneously salt (20). On the other hand, can be separated into two or more components the flow of
fluid to its molecular size. The advantages of membrane filtration are because, it is fast with low space
requirement and saturation can be reused. The disadvantage with membrane filtration method has a
limited lifetime before it happens fouling of the membrane and the cost is also excessive (21). The
choice of the membrane process, in the case of reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultra ... Show more

Maintain nanofiltration membranes of low molecular weight organic compounds, divalent ions, large
monovalent ions, Hydrolyzed reactive dyes and dyeing of auxiliaries. Harmful effects of high
concentrations of dye and salts in dye house outflows have often been reported (33, 34, 35). In most
published studies on dye waste water, the concentration of mineral salts is not more than 20 g / l and
the concentration of dye does not exceed 1.5 g / l (36). In general, the wastewater is reconstituted with
only one dye (37), and the volume studied is also low. The treatment of waste water by nanofiltration
is one of the rare applications that are possible for the treatment of solutions with highly concentrated
and complex solutions (38). An important problem is the accumulation of dissolved solids, which
eliminates the treated discharge outflows in water currents

Argumentative Essay On Track And Field
The playing conditions on various fields back when Jacqueline did track and field was way different
back then. Jacqueline explains the playing conditions on the various of fields she played on. It was
suitable for me back in the day, but now my high school has a official track and field turf v.s the dirt
field I ran on. The impact of these early experiences with track and field and reflecting back on the
improvements done to the fields are consistent with Beard and Green study on the role of turfgrasses
on environmental protection and it s benefit to humans. Both authors explains The erosion control
effectiveness of turfgrass is the combined result of a high shoot density and root mass for surface soil
stabilization, plus a high biomass matrix that provides resistance to lateral surface water flow, thus
slowing otherwise potentially erosive water velocities. Therefore, perennial turfgrasses offer one of
the most cost efficient methods to control water and wind erosion of soil. Such control is very
important in eliminating dust and mud problems around homes, factories, schools, and ... Show more

Most adolescents participate in team sports, in which youths compete with others to achieve or obtain
a certain goal. Working together and learning how to cooperate and interact with others helps an
adolescent develop socially. In addition, becoming socially accepted by one s peers and teammates
raises self esteem and enables one to be more psychologically competent (Chan, 1999). This
understanding is rooted in Jacqueline s behavior which this quote relate to her experience due to the
fact that Jacqueline never felt inferior in any sport because of her inner strength and learning how to
work well with others who were different from her to achieve or obtain a certain goal to win, which

In-Depth Analysis Of Old Spice Ad
Good morning/afternoon Mr Heppell and fellow peers. Today I will conduct an in depth analysis on
the Old Spice advertisement: Questions . According to a case study made by the organisation D AD,
the ad was first aired in June 2010 and was created by the company Wieden+Kennedy Portland, the
same company that made the advertisement The Other Side , a very successful ad. The product being
advertised in the ad is Old Spice body wash for men. The ad includes a shirtless man doing many
stereotypically manly endeavours, such as motorbike riding and building. The advertisement will now
be played.
Let s begin by using the AIDA structure to analyse the composition of the ad. First off, the ad grabs
the attention of female viewers by showing a muscular man without a shirt, asking the ladies rhetorical
questions. It captures the attention of male viewers by using negative and critical language about how
they can t be him, but then telling them that there is a way that they can be like him. The ad maintains
interest by constantly changing the background and using CGI effects to leave to viewer mystified as
they try to comprehend what just happened and try to predict what will happen next.
Additionally, the ad stimulates a desire for the product in females by implanting the idea that their
boyfriend or husband could be more attractive if they used Old Spice. The ad stimulates a desire for
the product in males by displaying an image of masculinity inserting the idea that Old Spice provides
an avenue to that image. Female viewers are encouraged to buy the product for their husband. Male
viewers are encouraged to buy the product because they want to be more masculine.
The target audience includes males and females, aged from 20 to mid 40s, either married, engaged or
dating. This is made obvious by the possessive words used in the questions the Old Spice guy uses.
For example, Does your man look like me? Should your man...
The fantasy message of the ad is shown to be: If you use Old Spice body wash, you will be the ideal
man. This is made obvious from the words used by the main character, and by the things that he does.
For example, he says, Do you want a man who smells like he can bake you a

Gene Sequencing And The Human Genome Project
Gene sequencing is a method that helps us to read the genetic code and to compare normal genes with
disease causing genes (Kratz, 2015). It is helpful to determine the precise order of the bases in a DNA
strand, and mostly used for genetic variation or mutation that might lead to a development of a
disease. This disease causing change can be a substitution, deletion or addition of a single base pair
(National Human Genome Research Institute, 2014). Since the human genome project has completed
its first draft in 2001, researchers are more keen to find out more about the human genome, the
variability of the gene sequences amongst humans, and the relationship between the gene sequence
variation to human health (Green et al., 2013). After a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patents are used to protect the gene sequence worldwide where the patent owner considers there will
be a viable market in that area (Merz and Cho,2008).Patenting genes have become popular after the
human genome was complete and became more a topic that people debated about (Caulfield and Gold,
2000). The patenting system in gene sequencing is important to discover new medicines and other
advances in healthcare (Nuffield Council on Bioethics, 2002). The European Society of Human
Genetics (ESHG) are looking for ways to develop the current patenting and licensing system in order
to make the public handle the situation in a well manner, respect to the current legislation (European
Journal of Human Genetics, 2008). Being quite a controversial topic there are a number of ethical
issues that arise from the society which will be discussed below.
Human dignity
Patenting gene sequences has been a topic that has been debated and problematic for quite a while.
One main issue that is discussed is human dignity. Thinking about patenting human genes can give the
idea of owning the gene sequence. In fact a response from a lawyer would be that patenting is not
exactly ownership. This statement is true but doesn t change the way people think about dignity. Many
people still think that human genes are commodities.
Even though patenting DNA reduces the risk of

The Lovely Bones Character Analysis
Imagine having a perfect family a wife and three kids also after a short 13 years having your eldest
child viciously torn away from you, in the story the lovely bones this is exactly what happened to Jack
salmon. Jack is having to deal with the trauma of losing his firstborn child on top of trying to keep a
grasp on his wife. With Jack s wife running off to California and his daughters offender on the loose,
Jack struggles with keeping a steady head. Jack copes with this trauma by seeking revenge to the
culprit Mr. Harvey. Jack takes time to move past this in his life but soon learns to hold his family
closer than ever before. We can all learn from what Sebold illustrates to us in jack s character about
dealing with trauma. A picture perfect family a husband an a wife with two girls and one boy. They
lived in the suburbs of Pennsylvania where the people were friendly. Anyone could see Jack s and
Susie s bond, they bonded over many things but the biggest had to be building the boats in the bottle.
All the kids were supposed to grow up in the same neighborhood going to the same school and live the
same life but all that changed when Susie never came home after school. What happen in the cornfield
disrupted everyone s way of life, nothing would ever be the same.
Jack had found a new passion passion for revenge and greed. Jack had known from early on ... Show

Some of these may be healthy and some may be unhealthy, which clearly for the most part Jack
Salmon s way was unhealthy. However, right or wrong each path eventually leads to a healthy place.
At least for those involved in Suzie s tragic story. As each character dealt with the tragic loss of life in
different ways, in the end they ended up reunited and able to move on and live their lives. As Suzie
described it, These were the lovely bones that had grown around my absence. (Alice Sebold,The

Passion For Research Paper
Passion can be a strong word, but it s a strong emotion. Passion is what drives people, keeps them
motivated. Determination and passion go hand in hand. I have a lot of passion for guard. When I first
joined, I was so bad that I just wanted to quit. I thought I was horrible. I kept trying and trying but it
still hadn t clicked for me yet. I had bruises up and down my arms, cuts on my wrists, and I struggled
to catch everything. Other people told me I was okay, but I wanted to be good. I was determined to be
great, and now I m going to strive for awesome. That passion and determination for this activity grew
stronger and stronger, as I was trying so hard to be good at it. I felt like quitting, but deep down I
knew I wouldn t because I had already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Commitment is the one thing that some people struggle with from time to time. We all have our
moments where we want to give up but we can t in to that emotion. I ve seen people quit just because
they didn t like their drill, or because they didn t want to put in the time to do the work. Quitting isn t
always the answer. Being physically unable to do it is a different story. Last winter was so stressful for
me, simply because I started the season late and I had to learn both drill and work. It was my second
season in so I wasn t new but I was still young. Sometimes I lack in self confidence when it comes to
guard, so I was honestly terrified. There were moments where I was super stressed out, but I didn t
want to let my team down so I pushed through. But having that opportunity that could ve easily been
given to someone else was so special to me. I thank you Mr. Brian Jones for giving me the opportunity
to be a part of an amazing team. I was able to earn that medal because of you. I wouldn t have been
able to do that without your help. Same for this winter. I am so terribly sorry that I could not finish this
season. But I just didn t know when I would be any better, plus there are a lot of other health and
personal reasons that contributed to me not continuing this season. But I will forever be grateful that
you gave me the opportunities that you did. Everyone calls you dad, and I know it s a joking matter,
but you are an amazing man Mr. Jones. You are the best band director ever!! And I will work on my
commitment, but I didn t continue just because I didn t want to do it anymore. I love guard with all of
my heart. Sometimes I want to cry when I watch the videos, because I wish I was up there with them
performing. I miss it so much, and hopefully I will be better by this

  • 2. Essay On Buffalo Bill A Common Meal Buffalo Bills restaurant is a well known restaurant that sits at the heart of Hayward on B Street. It is surrounded by a chain of many other fine dining restaurants, but none as good as the western inspired Buffalo Bills. On the outside of the restaurant at first glance it reminds you of an old Italian place, yet the name Buffalo Bills set your mind at askew when you notice the western title compared to the Italian landscape outside. Buffalo Bills has a variety of delicious Soups, Burgers, Pizzas, Desserts and assorted appetizers. Although their menu seems to be very simple, it s the simplicity that catches the eye. Yesterday I visited Buffalo Bills restaurant, and I must say their main goal is to keep their customers happy and make them want to come back. The customers seem to enjoy the enthusiasm that Buffalo Bills portrays within the eating environment, service, and the amazing food. As soon as the guests walk in this restaurant, they get a great sense of relaxation. With all the decorations it makes guests feel like they are in a good ole fashion Ho down with a modern twist of course. The décor includes very vivid painting from modern western inspired artists. The painting are very complemented by the dim orange lighting. Also, the restaurant is wrapped in ridged tin wall paper that waves in and out and with every wave it also reflects the lighting off the wall. The restaurant offers a casual feel in which people feel more sedated, and comfortable as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Success In George Gladwell s Individualistic Means Of Success Success has long been viewed as a result of an individual s determination and in some cases, innate talent. Said individual would generally be of a less fortunate background and rise to triumph with seemingly no assistance from others. Conversely, Gladwell argues against this individualistic approach to analyzing success. He instead argues that It is only by asking where they [successful people] are from that we can unravel the logic behind who succeeds and who doesn t. Gladwell looks deeper into the environment from which the successful spring and, using logic, thoroughly explains every aspect that lead to their success. Texting has revolutionized the way humans communicate in more ways than merely increasing the speed at which they transmit information. For Instance, Common texting abbreviations such as lol or rotfl have become ingrained into the culture of many first world countries and are now used in everyday conversation. Though the individual speaking or typing these abbreviations is not actually transmitting recognizable English words, there is a mutual understanding between the ones communicating of what each series of letters means. The meanings of the words are not obscured in any way. When biologists examine the ecology of an organism, they observe not only that organism s traits but also its environment. The biologist looks at things such as the surrounding organisms and how much of a threat they are to an organism s survival, the accessibility of resources to the organism. In short, the biologist looks at the organism s environment and sees what advantages it has had that allowed it to survive, and in some cases, thrive. This is similar to the way in which Malcolm Gladwell describes Accumulative Advantage . When Gladwell analyzes a successful person s rise to triumph, he takes into account the person s environment. He looks at things such as birth date, social attitude, economic trends, and genealogy to try to piece together what opportunities could have been an advantage and what advantages could have accumulated (hence the term Accumulative Advantage) in a person s life to propel them to their current successful status. The masques were elaborate performances, made to praise the monarch, with larger than life costumes and staging that combined songs, dances, and acting into a presentation that depicted gods and goddesses, and pastoral settings. The Masque of Blackness first premiered in 1605 in the banquet hall of Whitehall Palace in London, England at the height of global expansion. The banquet hall itself was temporary at this time, but was later built by the architect, Inigo Jones, who also staged The Masque of Blackness. The main story is about a visit between a middle aged woman and her elderly, bedridden father. It is during this visit that the two of them discuss fiction and give their opinion towards tragedy in literature and in life. The second is a story that the daughter creates for her father at his request. She proceeds to tell him a story about a mother who, in order to be closer to her drug addicted son, decides to experiment with the same drug and becomes a drug addict herself, only to be deserted by the son when he rises above his dependency. Finally, it is obvious that these two stories mirror each other in the sense that they are about tenuous but essential connections between parents and their children. The daughter abhors the kind of story her father wants because it is limiting. He, meanwhile, rejects her tale because he sees in it her inability to face tragic realities of fiction and life, including his impending death. Their different attitudes towards the possibility of opportunities and change, fictional or real, stem from their different world views and experiences. She went to college, but dropped out to become a writer, hoping to win his affection. He loves her, but does not approve of her dropping out of school, her writing style, or her views on life. In the narrative she creates for him, the father she would rather have surfaces as the mother who uses drugs as a means of being closer to be her son. One wonders what his perfect daughter would have been like, had he written the tale. Would he have wanted her to be more like him? Would he have preferred her to be inferior? Would everything have been different? . . . maybe. Throughout the story, two reoccurring themes are experience and opportunity. The narrator believes that fiction should reflect the opportunities of life not available to previous generations. In comparison, her father prefers the works of authors with whom he can relate, the kind of writers who spoke of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The s Quest For Meaning Two mice, nibbling and gnawing, representing the inexorable entity, time, which exists as a constant threat to humanity; a dark pit with death as the only certainty; a ferocious beast forbidding escape; a single branch offering delay; a drop of honey attempting to conceal inevitable peril. The powerful metaphor embedded in this Buddhist parable serves as the platform for Leo Tolstoy (A Confession) in his quest for meaning. It offers a simplistic illustration of the common predicament faced by all of mankind, to which Tolstoy and fellow thinkers, Sigmund Freud (Civilization and Its Discontents) and C.S. Lewis (The Abolition of Man) attempt to provide a solution. Each thinker offers a unique conclusion based upon their respective definitions of the problem and its perpetuating influences. The thinkers focus their investigation on the authority of science, instinct, and faith. Tolstoy is distinct in his ability to rationalize toward a purpose independent of mankind itself; he alters the circumstances of life rather than man s capability to deal with such circumstances. Freud and Lewis confine their respective reasonings to the continuation and progression of mankind so as to better cope with the predicament of man. Their theories on the improvement of man and civilization serve only to extend the torment of mankind. Tolstoy does not hesitate to dismiss the significance of science as an answer to the predicament of man. He quotes Solomon explaining that in much wisdom is much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. The Development Of Carbon Fibre The Development of Carbon Fibre in Formula 1. What is carbon fibre? Carbon fibre is an extremely strong material that is also super lightweight. The material has many uses in engineering and design, and this case study will discuss the advantages and disadvantages. McLaren first introduced carbon fibre into chassis construction of the MP4 in 1981. Apart from the cars engine, wheel rims and gearbox, all twenty two Formula 1 cars that competed in the 2014 season bodies, are made of carbon fibre. [1] Properties of Carbon fibre. Design technicians and engineers love to use carbon fibre in manufacturing as it has many desirable properties. First of all is its strength. Carbon fibre is five times stronger than steel and is twice as stiff [2]. The strands of carbon are lined up parallel to each other when producing a sheet. For maximum results in strength, the fibres must be parallel with the forces that will act upon that element, this is to make sure it can withstand the forces going through the object when in use. Carbon fibre is also very lightweight. This property is a huge advantage in car production. By using carbon fibre instead of steel in building car components reduces the weight of the car by 60% [2]. In turn, this reduction in weight cuts the car s fuel consumption by 30% and reduces greenhouse gases and other emissions by 15%[2]. Below shows a detailed table of the strength to weight ratio of carbon fibre. Carbon fibre also shows that it is a leading 21st ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Abnormal Role Of Flooding In New York City A report by the New York Office of Emergency Management states that in the 1990 s the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer found that New York City s low lying heavily populated neighborhoods are more exposed to the threat of coastal flooding in a hurricane than was previously realized. This projection was illuminated during Hurricanes Irene in 2011 and Sandy in 2012. This exactly what American media was doing from the muckrakers of the 20 s to the war in Kosovo in the 90 s. Let us now look at some examples of the use of TV as a mean of control over society. Before January 1991, public opinion polls showed that the American public was split into two groups, 50% each, about whether the U.S. should attack Iraq or not. Historians say however, if any anti war voices had been heard in the mass media at this time, the outcome could have been completely different. The second example turns out to be a tragic one, when we talk about the freedom of speech. After the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the pictures of the irradiated Japanese were not made available to the American public until the 1980 s. In both cases we see the control of society through TV, by those who control it, and directing society toward a certain destination, which is found to be the way forward for the humanity , and keeping the system together by creating a popular culture based on consumerism; turns out to be a modern way of practicing authority in our lives. Impact Of Slavery On The Indian Ocean Slavery in the Western Hemisphere has had an unmistakable impact on the the world and for those who live in the United States of America, it s impact is still seen today. For the most part this impact has been negative on the United States seeing as though it brought about immense racial tension between blacks and whites which is still today, crippling the nation. This type of slavery did not allow for upward mobility in the slave community. Seeing that Slavery across the Indian Ocean was not based upon race, and more upon social class and sexuality, there was more of a sense of upward mobility in the Indian Ocean slave trade than there was in the transatlantic slave trade which involved more brutal treatment based upon race. Today, slavery is known as one of the most inhumane acts of mankind. This viewpoint stresses that the principal actors, states, will pursue their own interests in an anarchical world. States will try to establish a balance of power that restrains aggressive states from dominating weaker ones. The second approach is idealism. This view stresses that states should transform the system into a new international order where peace can prevail. This approach emphases the spread of democracy across the world and the creation of international institutions. Realism and idealism provides an explanation to how U.S. foreign policy has developed since World War Two (WWII), identifies which influential factors play a role in both foreign policy approaches, and determines which view has best served the pursuit of national interests. The realist and idealist approaches are important in explaining the swinging pendulum path American foreign policy took since WWII. Over the past seventy years, U.S. foreign policy switches between these two approaches. After WWII ended, idealistic U.S. policymakers believed that cooperation between the United States and Soviet Union would transform the world to a more cooperative and peaceful one. • 43. William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying Isolation of Characters in As I Lay Dying As I Lay Dying was an extremely successful novel written by an American author named William Faulkner in 1930. Each of the characters in the novel are given traits that are expressed throughout the story to reveal their true identities. Faulkner utilizes first person point of view that shifts from one character to another to allow the reader to enter the mind of each character and experience their inner thoughts. All the characters live very similar lives however we can see the complete isolation and the breakdown of the relationships throughout the novel. The three main characters that really contribute to the deteriorating family relationships are Darl, Jewel, and Anse. First off is Anse Bundren, the head of the household, husband to Addie for over thirty years, and father to Darl, Jewel, Vardaman, and Dewey Dell. Anse is lazy and selfish, and relies greatly on his family and friends. Anse s constant selfishness is an important factor in his alienation from the rest of the family. For example, the journey to Jefferson to bury his dead wife was a promise he made to Addie, but during the trip he is only concerned with bettering himself. Despite all the turmoil along the way, and the fact that Addie s body is rotting Anse s main objective of the trip to Jefferson is acquiring a new set of teeth. Addie s death enables Anse by giving him a solid motive to travel to Jefferson while his real motive is the new set of teeth. After Addie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Membrane Filtration The increased cost of water consumption and wasteful require treatment process that is integrated with the circuits of water on the ground rather than as a subsequent treatment (19). From this point of view, membrane filtration offers a potential application. The processes that use membranes offer exciting possibilities for separation of dyestuffs and dyeing auxiliaries that reduce simultaneously hydrolysed color and biochemical oxygen demand /chemical oxygen demand of wastewater; generally used to treat effluent reactive dye bath, that could potentially reduce the volume of waste and recovery simultaneously salt (20). On the other hand, can be separated into two or more components the flow of fluid to its molecular size. The advantages of membrane filtration are because, it is fast with low space requirement and saturation can be reused. The disadvantage with membrane filtration method has a limited lifetime before it happens fouling of the membrane and the cost is also excessive (21). Harmful effects of high concentrations of dye and salts in dye house outflows have often been reported (33, 34, 35). In most published studies on dye waste water, the concentration of mineral salts is not more than 20 g / l and the concentration of dye does not exceed 1.5 g / l (36). In general, the wastewater is reconstituted with only one dye (37), and the volume studied is also low. The treatment of waste water by nanofiltration is one of the rare applications that are possible for the treatment of solutions with highly concentrated and complex solutions (38). An important problem is the accumulation of dissolved solids, which eliminates the treated discharge outflows in water currents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jacqueline explains the playing conditions on the various of fields she played on. It was suitable for me back in the day, but now my high school has a official track and field turf v.s the dirt field I ran on. The impact of these early experiences with track and field and reflecting back on the improvements done to the fields are consistent with Beard and Green study on the role of turfgrasses on environmental protection and it s benefit to humans. Both authors explains The erosion control effectiveness of turfgrass is the combined result of a high shoot density and root mass for surface soil stabilization, plus a high biomass matrix that provides resistance to lateral surface water flow, thus slowing otherwise potentially erosive water velocities. Therefore, perennial turfgrasses offer one of the most cost efficient methods to control water and wind erosion of soil. Such control is very important in eliminating dust and mud problems around homes, factories, schools, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 46. In-Depth Analysis Of Old Spice Ad Good morning/afternoon Mr Heppell and fellow peers. Today I will conduct an in depth analysis on the Old Spice advertisement: Questions . According to a case study made by the organisation D AD, the ad was first aired in June 2010 and was created by the company Wieden+Kennedy Portland, the same company that made the advertisement The Other Side , a very successful ad. The product being advertised in the ad is Old Spice body wash for men. The ad includes a shirtless man doing many stereotypically manly endeavours, such as motorbike riding and building. The advertisement will now be played. Let s begin by using the AIDA structure to analyse the composition of the ad. First off, the ad grabs the attention of female viewers by showing a muscular man without a shirt, asking the ladies rhetorical questions. It captures the attention of male viewers by using negative and critical language about how they can t be him, but then telling them that there is a way that they can be like him. The ad maintains interest by constantly changing the background and using CGI effects to leave to viewer mystified as they try to comprehend what just happened and try to predict what will happen next. Additionally, the ad stimulates a desire for the product in females by implanting the idea that their boyfriend or husband could be more attractive if they used Old Spice. The ad stimulates a desire for the product in males by displaying an image of masculinity inserting the idea that Old Spice provides an avenue to that image. Female viewers are encouraged to buy the product for their husband. Male viewers are encouraged to buy the product because they want to be more masculine. The target audience includes males and females, aged from 20 to mid 40s, either married, engaged or dating. This is made obvious by the possessive words used in the questions the Old Spice guy uses. For example, Does your man look like me? Should your man... The fantasy message of the ad is shown to be: If you use Old Spice body wash, you will be the ideal man. This is made obvious from the words used by the main character, and by the things that he does. For example, he says, Do you want a man who smells like he can bake you a ... • 47. Gene Sequencing And The Human Genome Project Gene sequencing is a method that helps us to read the genetic code and to compare normal genes with disease causing genes (Kratz, 2015). It is helpful to determine the precise order of the bases in a DNA strand, and mostly used for genetic variation or mutation that might lead to a development of a disease. This disease causing change can be a substitution, deletion or addition of a single base pair (National Human Genome Research Institute, 2014). Since the human genome project has completed its first draft in 2001, researchers are more keen to find out more about the human genome, the variability of the gene sequences amongst humans, and the relationship between the gene sequence variation to human health (Green et al., 2013). After a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patents are used to protect the gene sequence worldwide where the patent owner considers there will be a viable market in that area (Merz and Cho,2008).Patenting genes have become popular after the human genome was complete and became more a topic that people debated about (Caulfield and Gold, 2000). The patenting system in gene sequencing is important to discover new medicines and other advances in healthcare (Nuffield Council on Bioethics, 2002). The European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG) are looking for ways to develop the current patenting and licensing system in order to make the public handle the situation in a well manner, respect to the current legislation (European Journal of Human Genetics, 2008). Being quite a controversial topic there are a number of ethical issues that arise from the society which will be discussed below. Human dignity Patenting gene sequences has been a topic that has been debated and problematic for quite a while. One main issue that is discussed is human dignity. Thinking about patenting human genes can give the idea of owning the gene sequence. In fact a response from a lawyer would be that patenting is not exactly ownership. This statement is true but doesn t change the way people think about dignity. Many people still think that human genes are commodities. Even though patenting DNA reduces the risk of ...
