Summary Of Seven Myths Of The Spanish Conquest
For decades, the history of Latin America has been shrouded in a cover of Spanish glory and myth
that misleads and complicates the views of historians everywhere. Myths such as the relationship
between natives and conquistadors, and the individuality of the conquistadors themselves stand as
only a few examples of how this history may have become broken and distorted. However, in Seven
Myths of the Spanish ConquestMatthew Restall goes to great lengths to dispel these myths and
provide a more accurate history of Latin American, in a readable and enjoyable book. Restall s
ultimate goal in writing this book is to provide readers and scholars alike with a more realistic
viewpoint and history of the Spanish conquest. He wishes to dispel the many myths that accompany
the epic tale so as to provide a better understanding of who the natives were and, more importantly
to Restall, who the Spanish were. He does an excellent job of questioning the who, what, and where
of the personalities and motives of the men involved in conquest. These questions are heartily
answered in a well written and easy to read history book. Restall answers his own questions present
in the introduction by focusing each chapter on a different myth. Chapter one discusses that the
men who partook in conquest were valiant, rich, and outstanding. This idea gives credit to both the
Spanish interpretation and the beautifully rugged men cast in Hollywood adaptations. The author
notes, additionally, that the myth

United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification: Empowering Local Populations to the
expense of concrete results
Introduction
The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was adopted in 1994 as a
product of the Rio Conference which took place in 1992. It attempts to combat desertification
which is defined as land degradation in arid, semi arid and dry sub humid areas resulting from
various factors including climatic variations and human activities. (Marc Johnson, 2006, Chapter
1) Land degradation is a process of reduction or loss of the biological and economic productivity
and complexity of cropland, pasture and forest. By nature, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Through its dual focus on environment and development, the Convention is seen as the perfect
approach to sustainable development. Since its creation, objectives have evolved and now consist
in influencing international actors by raising awareness, providing strong policy frameworks in
affected countries, enhancing scientific knowledge about desertification, identifying and addressing
capacity building. Finally, it also aims to mobilize as well as improve financial resources
(Secretariat UNCCD, 2013). Stinger and numerous Conference of Parties (COP) reports highlight
the concerning lack of benchmarks and indicators to understand phenomena, monitor convention s
impacts and progress as well as evaluate possible strategies. This is mostly a consequence of the
absence of means to conduct measurements in affected countries. What are the challenges the
Convention is facing? So far, has the UNCCD achieved some its targets?
Identify and describe
The UNCCD has to deal with many challenges arising from the nature of the environmental
problem itself and the structure of the Convention.
There is no international consensus on the definition of desertification, nor the possible solutions to
revert its effect on land and populations. The conception and interpretation of this process is
difficult and therefore hard to implement in national policies. Moreover concrete results are slow to
come about,

The Access Control System For Providing Physical Security
TO PROVIDE PHYSICAL SECURITY?
Introduction
In the present world, the Access Control System is used in all the places where it is intended
that a system should allow the authorized persons to get in or leave the facilities as and when
required and also to keep a record about these movements. Basically it determines who is
allowed to enter or exit; similarly allowed to exit or enter even with the time when they are
allowed to enter or exit. In the past, the same job could have been partially done by locks and
keys. But there were number of limitations of the mechanical locks keys. Firstly, it did not
provide any restriction to the key holders to specific times dates. Secondly, it did not provide any
records of the key used to a specific door. Thirdly, the keys can be easily copied or transferred to
the unauthorized person. Finally, when the key is lost, the authorized person losses his access to
the protected areas and the locks must be re keyed.
Electronic Access Control System has come forward to solve the problems of mechanical locks
keys. The system uses a computer network where a wide range of credentials or identifications
are used to replace those mechanical keys. In the system, when the credentials are provided then
the access is granted; the door is unlocked for a predetermined time and the transaction is
recorded. Again, when the access is denied, the door remains locked and the attempted access are
also recorded. The system can also monitor the door and

The Legal Consent Of Gestational Surrogacy
In this Brief, the petitioner Julie Williams will be referred to as Julie, Appellant. Respondent
Jessie Sampson will be referred to as Jessie, Appellee.
ARGUMENT ON APPEAL
This court should answer the question Does the court have the right to allow Jessie Williams to
keep her daughter despite her earlier contract of surrogacy ? Based on the legal binding gestational
surrogacy contract.
The Merits
At issue in this petition is whether the determination by the trial court, should the child be turned
over to Julie Williams. In light, of this judgement solely based on prior gestational agreement forms,
Julie Williams is requesting that the decision be overturned and the surrogate turn over the child.
Currently there are several federal statutes governing the disposition of gestational surrogacy.
There is Florida Statutes 742.14 Part One, which states prior to engaging in gestational surrogacy,
binding and enforceable gestational surrogacy contract for gestational surrogacy shall not be
binding and enforceable unless the gestational surrogate is 18 years of age or older. Except as
provided the gestational surrogate agrees to relinquish any parental right upon the child s birth,
regardless of any impairment of the child. In addition, the gestational surrogate also agrees to
assume parental rights and responsibilities for the child born to her if it is determined that neither
member of the commissioning couple is the genetic parent of the child.

It is a very important task to do as employees should have faith in their company and should be told
the right thing at the right time. It concentrates on building a strong relationship between the
company and its employees.
If the employees are non cooperative for the company the company alone cannot be built.
1.Shareholder or Investors relations: Shareholder is the legal owner of the company. He should be
well informed of the pros and cons of the functioning of it. Also, he gets a fair treatment and also

he is the owner.
2.Employee Relations: Employees are the most important part of the company, they handle the

The Invention Of The World Wide Web
The present society of today embodies a distinct shape, organization, role, and feel from the
societies of a millennium ago, a century ago, or even a decade ago. These metamorphoses are, in
part, caused by the multiple technological revolutions that our society has experienced throughout
its history. Each time a technological revolution occurs when a novel technology is introduced to
build upon or succeed an older one the entire society (and the individuals that comprise it) changes.
However, as Marshall McLuhan suggested within the printed pages of Understanding Media: The
Extensions of Man, the medium is the message (McLuhan 1964). In other words, these shifts are
not as much the direct result of the invention s content or it s use, as they are the outcomes of
effects that are intrinsic within the technology itself. Although McLuhan published this work in
1964, almost thirty years before the invention of the World Wide Web
, this adage still holds true for
the Internet today.
Technologies, such as the Internet, should not be viewed, using the instrumentalist perspective, as
inherently neutral tools that are valuable only for their ends, intended purposes, or practical
benefits (Ellul, Wilkinson, and Merton 1964, Carr 2010, 45). Rather, the means themselves, or what
McLuhan would consider the medium, should also be recognized as carrying messages that hold
powerful, unintended consequences for society (Ellul, Wilkinson, and Merton 1964, McLuhan
1964). In

Essay about Blake Edwards
1. How do any one of the films screened in weeks 6 12 of the course represent and/or foreground
authorship?
Dating back to the 1920 s, the term auteur was debated over, claiming to describe an author of
script and film maker as one and the same versus the view of scripts being appointed from authors
or scriptwriters (1996, p12).

Clouseau continues for the hotel room door yet stumbles over a suitcase. While finally for the
topper topper , Clouseau suspiciously checks the door and flings it wide open while peering out,

Audiences are encouraged to adapt completely to this style in order for the comic lines and/or
events to take on a familiar quality of convention rather than becoming abstractions to the field of
movement or speech (Meisel, 1983). *
Edwards genius at creating a logically evolving chaos and building laughter through long
stretches of farcical sostenuto (1981, p.26) is what sets him apart from other directors of the time,
yet is respected as being apart of the few who were to be considered apart of the pantheon of
directors (1973, p50).
The ideology of Hollywood surrounding S.O.B was Blake Edwards intentions to assault the motion
picture industry as thanks for the excessive disputes between studio executives and himself in order
to maintain Hollywood success (1981, p39).
Within the chapter of Authorship, James Naremore notes that authors are written by a series of
historical, social and cultural determinants (1999, p22), which can be said to easily differentiate
films precisely from one another.
We see a paradoxical linkage to some of these determinants in each of Edwards films.
S.O.B and Sunset (1988) both illustrate the malice and treachery

Summary Of Gelebor s Departure
came to an exit from the cave, but outside is still populated by more of the falmer, a narrow
crevice through the mountains, full of falmer huts and guards, and traps. In one of the huts we
found a rare falmer book, it looks like the librarian at the Winterhold college may pay well for it,
so we took it along. We both agree, once we are done here, we do not want to see another falmer
or another chaurus for a long time. Imagine my relief when we found the final shrine and filled
the ewer. We headed towards the inner sanctum, where we should find out what has gone wrong
with Gelebor s brother and why he is no longer responding. The sanctum is an impressive
looking building, it s a shame it is abandoned and no longer used. Pouring the water at the
entrance caused the doors to open so we could venture inside; the inside looks just as impressive.
As we moved deeper inside it was full of skeletons of the worshippers and frozen falmer, trapped
where they were standing. Eventually we got to the chapel, and here we saw arch curate Vyrthur,
he admitted he had created the prophecy just for the purpose of bringing a daughter of coldharbour
to him, for his insidious purposes. He awoke the frozen falmer in the room and set them to attack

Bait And Switch Rhetorical Analysis
Barbara Ehrenreich s Bait and Switch describes the experience of going undercover as a white
collar job seeker in order to observe the culture of current corporate in America, particularly the
transitional life of those white collar worker who has been laid off and is seeking for
reemployment. Nevertheless, getting a job was much harder than Ehrenreich expected, so she
subjected herself to endless networking events, job coaching, and even to an image makeover, all
designed to make her more attractive to potential employers. Unfortunately, six months of
schmoozing, hustling, and spending do not only fail to help Ehrenreich to get an expectant job,
but also cost her several thousands of dollars. However, Barbara Ehrenreich s failure points out the
issues people may face in job marker and gives several suggestions to help them to overcome those
issues.
Over accepting suggestions and ideas from other people without analyzing will mislead people

Immigration Protest
Introduction:
A day without immigrants protest was one that spread an ideal ology throughout businesses and
labor force. The goal of this protest was to unite as immigrants and show what kind of hit the
economy and labor force would take if immigrants weren t there to fuel it. This has taken place
twice in recent history, once on May 1, 2006 and recently on February 21, 2017. One could argue
whether they are successful in their efforts to show how important immigration is to the American
economy.
Background studies:
Immigrants make up 12 percent of the population and more than 17 percent of the working
population. This means that based on population immigrants are more involved in the workforce
than natives themselves. With trump getting elected to Presidency, and his views on immigration
control and it being viewed as discrimination, one could say that he is just putting fuel on the flame.
According to Moriah Butler, Immigration protest are viewed by the general public in a disruptive
manner with people saying that there will never be a right time to protest (Butler 1.)
Jose Andres is a different case in many opinions. Andres owns a restaurant and for the protests he
shut down his business in order to show his employees that he cares about them. According to him
he has workers that have been with him for 25 or more years. He says that he owes it to them to
show that he cares because they have stuck with him in good and bad times, and have put in more

Dear: secretary general of the United Nation, After reading and doing some research of solitary
on juveniles here in the United States is a violation of human rights. I understand that there will
be behavioral to address when it comes to violations and gangs violence among juveniles. Is
there another way to address this behavioral instead of sending them to the solitary? Sending

catacombs everywhere. Explorers find more and more reasons everyday to travel through various

The Classical Nature of the Sui Dynasty
Classical
WHAT IS CLASSICAL?
There are multiple meanings of classical, originally the term classical is a way to describe the
literature, culture and art of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. Though this is the original
definition of the word classical it is well argued that many different civilizations and arts, literature,
and culture can be described as classical.
EXAMPLE
An example would be classic music as this would be referencing European music around the 18th to
19th century.
JUSTIFYING CLASSICAL
Another definition of classical is the most developed stage of art from a civilization such as
Chinese classic poetry or classical music. Having these two quite contradicting definitions, to
justify, something that is classical gives a great impact as well as long impact on today s society
whether the impact was either positive or negative.
THE SUI DYNASTY
An example of this new justified definition would be the Sui Dynasty and how it has impacted
China so much to which they had introduced a new religion that now takes up 20% to 50% of
China s population.
Brief History
During the 6th century, the hardworking micromanager Yang Jian had ascended the Sui dynasty.
This dynasty preceded the Southern and Northern Dynasties and was quite a productive time in
terms of artistic production. For over a century, China has unified after the north south division and
tried to unify the people of China by using the Equal field system. This technique allowed the

Eating Disorders And Anorexia Nervosa
Eating disorders are a sickness that can come from psychological issues and it can disrupt the
everyday diet. A person with an eating disorder may have started out just eating smaller or larger
amounts of food, but at some point, the urge to eat less or more spiraled out of control. The
common eating disorders are anorexia nervosaand bulimia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa is when
someone see s themselves as an overweight person, so they watch what they eat since, they have
a fear of becoming overweight. The disorder takes over them and their focus is to avoid becoming
overweight. Bulimia nervosa is when someone eats large amounts of food at one time and not
being able to control how much they take in. Researchers are finding that eating disorders are
caused by a complex interaction of genetic, biological, behavioral, psychological, and social factors.
Anorexia nervosa can come from having been sexually abused or having family that are too
controlling over what they do. Most often diagnosed in females (up to 90%), Anorexia is
characterized by failure to maintain body weight of at least 85% of what is expected, fear of
losing control over your weight or of becoming fat. The person with the disorder often visualizes
themselves in a mirror and seeing an overweight person staring back at them which is their
reflection. Treatment for anorexia nervosa involve restoring their health, after that is done therapy

The Benefits of Hippotherapy There are many different types of treatments that have been
experimented with to treat different disorders or diseases. A very unique example of this is
hippotherapy. Hippotherapy is the use of a horse as a treatment tool for physical, occupational, and
speech therapy (McGraw). The term hippotherapy comes from the Greek word hippos, which
means horse. There have been records of people using horseback riding as a therapeutic treatment
strategy since ancient Greece. More recently, the use of horseback riding has been used for
rehabilitation of people with physical disabilities since 1875. As the use of horses for therapybegan

Preformity In Love Is A Fallacy By Max Shulman
Fallacies get the best out of all of us. Many people tend to give their own point of view on matters
that interest them. However, at times they are not credible because they do not have evidence to
support their reasoning. Max Shulman wrote a passage, Love is a Fallacy, that discusses the
stereotypes of woman. Shulman demonstrates conformity in society through the acceptance of
segregation of women and other minorities. These acts of conformity and presumptions are
conveyed through the use of fallacies. Using this passage as an example, fallacies are shown to be
used in many arguments; as a way to change the subject or get out of answering a question. In the
passage, Shulman uses different types of fallacies: ambiguity, presumption, and relevance. Shulman
uses fallacies of ambiguity in his passage to give multiple interpretations of his message to the
audience. An example of equivocation stated in the passage is, Beautiful she was. She was not yet
of pin up proportions, but I felt sure that time would supply the lack. (Shulman 382). This is an
example of equivocation because there are many propositions that leads to the final statement.
However, the propositions being made do not make sense in the final claim. The narrator states that
Polly is beautiful, but he uses deceptive language to hide that he thinks that she is truly not perfect
yet. Fallacyof composition is another example used in the passage, It is, after all , easier to make a
beautiful dumb girl smart than

Critics of Systemic theory, as a result, argue that the overall thrust of U.S. policy in Syria and
the Middle East in its entirety, is due primarily to the supremacy of interest groups in American
domestic politics, specifically, the Israel lobby. In IR theory, the primacy of interest groups, is
understood in international relations as Society centered. Society centered explanations focus on
domestic interest groups: a group of people that seeks to influence public policy based on a
common interest or concern. From this lens, U.S. support for Israel, thanks to Israeli interest
groups, has been justified by the claim that both states are threatened by terrorist groups
originating in the Arab or Muslim world, like Bashar al Assad in Syria. Israel is thus seen as a
crucial ally in the war on terror because its enemies are America s enemies. The claim that the
Israel lobby diverts U.S foreign policy from the American national interest by convincing American
politicians that U.S. and Israeli interests are essentially identical, does not stand up, as American
foreign policy under Donald Trump prioritizes fighting terrorism in Syria, not the Assad regime,
which is an enemy of Israel.

Similarities And Difference Between Sudan And United Arab...
Having lived ten years in Sudan and six years in the United Arab Emirates, I have therefore
developed very strong concise opinions about both countries. Sudan being located in Africa and the
United Arab Emirates located in the Middle East share some similarities and difference which will
be shown through talking about each country s tradition, economy and architecture and rituals. I
believe the quality of living in the UAE is of higher standards, due to the advancements made in its
infrastructure, economy and education.
In Sudan there are around 114 languages being spoken there but the most dominant language

Summary of Theodore Roethke s Poem My Papa s Waltz
Affection in My Papa s Waltz
Theodore Roethke s My Papa s Waltz is a gentle poem, made so by its affectionate and simple
tone, its innocence, its light heartedness, and its humor. While other readers, like John Ciardi,
have found it to be a poem of terror (Fong 80), when one considers the original drafts, as John J.
McKenna does, one sees a much less forbidding melodrama and a much more down to earth
representation of home life. This paper will show how Roethke s Waltz uses language, tone, and
rhyme to convey, with childlike sensibility, a happy image of an energetic dancewith one s father.
Roethke s corrections in the original draft seem to be geared towards removing any type of
suggestive language or imagery that might rob the poem of its lightheartedness. In the original
draft, the boy is a girl and the mother s countenance / Could not unscrew itself (McKenna 35).
Apparently the sexual connotations of the latter term were to be avoided and the closeness of a
small, dizzy girl to whiskey on your breath was likely an unwanted image as well. By replacing the
girl with a boy, and changing unscrew to unfrown, Roethke removed from the poem the two main
potential obstacles: abusive, neglectful tone and sexual imagery. Carefully observing the
suggestions associated to terms in the English language, Roethke sets the reader in front of a scene
of rough housing between father and son, with mother looking on disapprovingly (but comically)
because their

John Ford s The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
John Ford s The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance black and white film tells the story of a killing
of a man that helped a town progress and become civilized. The film begins when a young
quixotic man fresh out of law school from the East, moves to a western town called Shinbone
without knowing this town is a wilderness ruled by guns and savages. The optimistic lawyer
named Ransom eventually brings law and order to the town after the local troublemaker is shot. He
is then known as the man who shot Liberty Valanceand ends up becoming a senator in Washington.
Time passes by and he and his wife Hallie come back to the town of Shinbone for a local rancher s
funeral named Tom Doniphon. Here, the editor of The Shinbone Star asks Senator Ransom why...

Johnson. There are slight differences between the two, but the main plot remains the same, that
of a town ruled by mayhem with a local ruffian loaded with guns not wanting the town to
progress; a lawyer who realizes he will have to get rid of the ruffian not through law but through
a gun and the rancher who helps him get rid of the ruffian going unrecognized. Switching now to
the differences between the short story and the film, the first difference the reader is able to
spot is how the short story begins as opposed to how the film begins. In the short story, the
rancher is named Bert Barricune while in the film he is named Tom Doniphon. The film
opening scene begins with a long shot of a train arriving to the town of Shinbone, while the
Marshal, Link Appleyard, waits at the train stop for Hallie and Senator Ransom to step out of
the train. On the other hand, the short story starts right at the funeral scene, and it describes how
not more than a dozen people showed up to Bert s funeral. Both also differ in the way the
lawyer, Ransom, arrives to the western town. In the film, Tom Doniphon brings Ransom s
passed out body into town in the back of a carriage, while in the short story Ransom limped into
the Marshal s office as Bert was being let out of a one cell jail. Another difference is the duel scene,
in the short story Ransom passed out and he wakes up to see Bert s face, who

Compare And Contrast Descartes And Leibniz
The two main variations on the Problem of Evil that Leibniz focused on were the Underachiever
Problem (Slacker God) and the Holiness Problem (Bastard God). The former focused on the idea
that if God is infinitely omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent, then he would create the best
world possible. The best of all worlds would not include evilbecause God is infinitely
omnibenevolent and would never cause evil. The Problem of Evilarises when we look at the world
around us and notice that there is not only human evil but also natural evil. Meaning that God is
an underachiever and did not create the best of all possible worlds (Leibniz). Modern atheist would
use this contradiction to show that God does not exist because God would never create... Show

There is also no reason to believe that God is measuring how good this world is using human
happiness. Humans are not the only species in the world that can feel happiness and we do not
know if there are other intelligent sentient beings that God may include in his decision to create
this world. I also agree with Leibniz s ideas on this being the most complex of worlds with the
least set of laws. I agree with this because it would support the theist ideas of who God is, this
being an infinitely powerful being. In order to show his power God would attempt to create the
most complex of worlds with the least set of rules. Think of this as a contest where the winner is
the one who makes the longest song with the least set of notes, or the longest video that takes up

Ford Heights Essay
Once referred to as the poorest suburb in America, the community has taken many steps to
strengthen its future. In 1987, the village changed its name to Ford Heights. Ford Heights,
formerly East Chicago Heights is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. Ford Heights
was first settled in the late 1840s. It served as a stopping point on the Underground Railroad for
runaway slaves fleeing to freedom. By the early 20th century, the area had developed into an
agricultural community of farms operated mostly by Polish, Lithuanian, and Italians. After World
War I, Blacks from the Southern U.S. migrated to the area and worked on the farms. After 1920,
more residents came to live on newly subdivided land called the Park Addition on a farm road
from Chicago Heights to Indiana. In 1924, the main east west road became a two lane concrete
highway designated as U.S. Route 30 in 1926, later known as the transcontinental Lincoln
Highway. Early settlers included the family of Alberta Armstrong. She and others organized black
and white women to raise funds for a fire truck, and by 1948, this group became the East Chicago

Symbolism In America
America, much comes to mind when this word is heard. Usually people think of things like
hotdogs, baseball games, even the red white and blue. While these objects represent American
culture greatly, I feel as if Donald Trump, fireworks, and Wal Mart do a much better job. People
may argue with me, but these three items symbolize the core of America. The Republican
presidential nominee Donald Trump represents the average American citizen. Many speculate
just how Trump got this far in the 2016 election, but it doesn t surprise me. He is like any other
older white man, a loud, egotistical, bigot, who is very opinionated. The closed mindedness of
Trump represents just how most of Americans are stuck in their ways, and only looking out for
themselves. Hopefully, good ol bigotry and misogyny can make America great again. Fireworks
have been shot off on the fourth of July for ages in America Not only are they a tradition, but a
symbol of America as well. Fireworks are unnecessary, flashy, and big, like America. The U.S.
Government spends billions of dollars in American tax payers money on frivolous things. For

Jane Austen s Pride And Prejudice
Anjan Amarnath Mr. Holaday British Literature/Writing P6 9 May 2016 Clever Title While
Jane Austen s novel Pride and Prejudice is often regarded for it s strong representations of
feminism, the novel strongly portrays the Oedipus complex through the Bentley sisters
unexpected and contradictory relationships. The relationship of a child with their parent is one
of the strongest influences in one s later life and relations, so much so that a child is sometimes
forced to repress their true desires. The novel tracks Elizabeth Bennet s relationship with Mr.
Darcy, a relationship which endures a stark, unexpected change that is a result of Elizabeth s
Oedipal complex. Initially, Elizabeth detests Mr. Darcy, as she views him and a narcissistic man
with unreasonably high expectations; however, near the end of the novel, she becomes infatuated
with him and the two end up getting married. Mr. Bennet, Elizabeth s father, is a very soft
spoken man who deliberately defies his wife, his female counterpart, and doesn t seem to openly
express his love for his family very often. That is, with the exception of Elizabeth who happens to
be his favorite daughter, as demonstrated throughout the book through his distinct affection and
care towards her and his indifference towards his other four daughters. Due to the parallelism
between Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bennet, it is clear that Elizabeth s attraction to Mr. Darcy is deeply
rooted within the Oedipus complex. Mr. Bennett expresses a low

American Sports History
There s mostly two types of sports fans the old school fan, who longs for the way things used to be
and modern fans, who constantly seek the highlight reel play to make into a vine or Instagram video.
Old school fans complain that football has become too offensive, no one plays defense in
basketball anymore and that baseball is too much about the long ball and bat flipping. Meanwhile,
modern fans love it when athletes make big plays and could care less about traditions or how
things used to be. For younger fans, sports have changed with the times, and it s best to get on
board or get out of the way.
One thing that almost every fan can agree on, though, is that the value of seeing a sport live has

Most matches are 90 minutes, plus a few stoppage time minutes at the referees discretion. You can
set your schedule, knowing you ll be at the game around two hours and less often more. Knowing
how long matches will roughly be can make travel plans, as well as after match plans, much easier
to manage. While triple overtime contests and marathon baseball games are thrilling, some fans
have to choose between watching the end of the game or keeping plans made for after.
While changes have been made regarding player fitness, equipment and rules, the fundamentals of
soccer are essentially unchanged. Fans with modern and old school mentalities can both come away
satisfied. A great defensive team can win the World Cup, while an offensive juggernaut can
steamroll its way to a championship just the same.
As for criticisms of the sport, soccer does have a long history of corruption, and many of the
players and officials aren t likable. There is a maddening degree of flopping , though to be fair,
the tactic has also become a trend in basketball and hockey to an extent. Likewise in baseball and
football, players fake injuries to get advantages, most often pretending to be hit by a pitch or
taking a knee to stop a football team s hurry up offense. Some detest the aspect in sports, while

Through group brainstorming, we came up with a number of variables that theoretically should
affect the price of crude oil, and we used Bloomberg to find data on the same. Our two main
criteria for a good variable were statistical significance and R2. We conducted a regression analysis
as well as multiple regression analysis to double check the variables we selected on the
Bloomberg terminal. Moreover, so as to not omit any good variables, we broadened our search to
the Oil commodity section to find relevant industry reports and prospective variables. Through a
process of rough trial and error, and after eliminating several variables due to problems such as
multicollinearity and heteroskedasticity, we finalized the three variables that are mentioned below.
As crude oil is invoiced in USD, it is of interest to note how fluctuations in the value of the USD
affect oil prices. Another of our factors is the price of natural gas, the closest substitute as a source
of energy to oil. Lastly, we seek to establish a relationship between returns in the S P500 and oil

Reflection Of The Indian Residential Community
What does it mean when, in a room full of young and aspirational leaders, not one individual
identifies as Indigenous? It s a sign of privilege. Privilege is who gets to be around the table, who
is invited to the conversation (Stonehouse, 2017). It s a division of opportunity based on a history
of socialized understandings of difference. But given this overwhelming landscape, Canada hopes
to rewrite this history, to guide and inspire Aboriginal peoples and Canadians in a process of
reconciliation and renewed relationships that are based on mutual understandingand respect (CC).
This hope is encapsulated in what is known as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
The TRC represents a compilation of accounts that have come from the enduring legacy of Indian
Residential Schools (TRC, 2015). It is important because it calls to action the ways in which non
Aboriginal people think, perceive history, and understand difference (CC). With its inclusion of 94
calls to action, I am left wondering if these calls will be answered and by who. As both LaBoucane
and Stonehouse expressed, it s not just an Indigenous issue but a shared history (2017). This history
that is not well understood by many including myself. Therefore, I write this reflection with the
intent of exploring what my role is in terms of two areas; thought and action.
Thought implies the internal conversation I have with myself regarding my own beliefs and those I
hold for others. Often, these thoughts are

Motives For Imperialism
God, gold and glory was the main motive of explorers during the Age of Exploration. God meant
the desire to spread and enlarge christianity, and glory meant greater power and larger empire. The
countries we are comparing to this saying include South Africa, Australia, Mexico, Peru, New
Zealand, U.S.A (and states within it), Egypt, Central American countries, India, Ethiopia, and
Jamaica. In all the mentioned countries, the Aboriginals in the countries being explored and
colonized by imperialistic countries, were affected negatively. This is because imperialistic
countries such as Britain, Spain, Portugal, and France had ethnocentric beliefs. Considering that
Aboriginals of the countries being colonized had different beliefs in god, the imperialistic countries
usually pushed their own religion on the Indigenous peoples. Obviously, the Indigenous people did
not want to change their traditional practices. In response to the Aboriginals being defiant, the
European countries became violent, and even... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Power was usually acquired by increasing population, land, money, and resources. The population
of the newcomers would not usually increase, but the population of the first people would
decrease. Causes of the Aboriginal population decreasing was death from wars and diseases.
Europeans would usually use the Indigenous people as slaves, to mine or harvest resources,
because it was difficult labour and sometimes dangerous. Cheap labour also was used to make
profit from resources being collected. Involuntarily, the Aboriginals lost most of their land because
the imperialist countries felt that it was available to claim. While exploring, European countries
would apply these things, then when they travelled back home they would share news, and were
considered brave and chivalrous. This in return would make the explorers feel glorious, creating a
motivation to explore and colonize more

Significance Of The Back And The Future Trilogy
The Significance of the Back to the Future Trilogy
Earlier this month, actor Michael J. Fox tweeted Only off by a year, not bad. Congrats @Cubs.
This is so heavy. (@realmikefox) His tweet was a reference to a prediction made in the 1989
film, Back to the Future Part II, in which Fox starred as the lead character of Marty. Even though
the film was released twenty seven years ago, and its predecessor was released four years prior to
that, the tweet itself garnered over eighteen thousand Twitter likes, showcasing that series relevance
alive in today s society.
The Back to the Future trilogy has made its way into the hearts of millions; still being loved now
just as much as when it was first released. The film trilogy, produced by Steven Spielberg and
directed by Robert Zemeckis, stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as the lead characters.
Supporting actors include Lea Thompson, Thomas F. Wilson, and Crispen Glover. The storyline
follows Marty McFly (Fox) as he travels through time in a Delorean that has been manipulated
by his best friend, the kooky scientist, Doc Brown (Lloyd). Throughout three films, Marty
attempts to re align history and make it back to 1985 unharmed. The series was a success at the
box office, making almost one billion dollars worldwide between all three films (Thompson, 667).
In addition to the success it had when it was first released, Back to the Future is still relatable to
audiences today, many of which were born long after the decades

Disobedience In 1984
Societies subject to totalitarian reign experience a complete degradation of both civil and natural
born rights. Entire populations are forced to follow a strict regimen, often against their free will
and good judgement. In 1984, George Orwell warns of such corrupted power of a totalitarian
regime. Big Brother instills a looming fear that agitates the people of Oceania, which, in the hearts
of some, ignites a cry of rebellion. Those trying to peacefully challenge the system, much like
Winston and Julia, are met with a cruel fate of reassimilation. Under totalitarian rule of Big Brother,
such actions of civil disobedience are not effective because of the governments disinterest of citizen
acceptance, unrelenting power, and a complete control... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eliminating the knowledge of past protests and resources pertaining to them from the history
books, allows the population to remain ignorant on the subject. This control over the media is
censorship at its worst. In a very similar instance, the Russian population is also currently
experiencing this restriction of knowledge. All Russian media is now controlled by the
government just like in Soviet times... In March, the Kremlin put Chinese government like
restrictions on the Internet, and cracked down on the few remaining independent news outlets
and bloggers left in Russia (McIntosh 300). As the state unites under one media source, the
people are forced to accept the Putin s government sanctioned propaganda outlet. This systematic
withdrawal of all news sources denies the Russian people exposure to anything else. The same
could be said for the censorship of the internet in North Korea. The contents of the web site
consist mostly of political propaganda such as the superiority of the North Korean regime, the
North Korean leader s greatness, North Korean people s happiness, and attacks on the US and the
South Korean (Cheng et al. 659). Riddled with deceit, nothing but a positive view on the North
Korean regime is permitted to be posted. This limitation of speech is a hazard to not only the
views of the people, but any hope for progression. With the fear of

Therefore, the liver gut interaction is central to understand the pathophysiology of liver diseases,
including non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and hepatic encephalopathy. Current
knowledge on the association between gut microbial composition and NASH is incomplete. Liver
malfunction leads to altered genetic composition of gut microbial, and in the meantime specific
bacterial species are present during liver pathogenesis, and the abundance of some bacteria is

Toll like receptors (TLRs) constitute very important players in this microbiome balance. TLRs are

Critical Concepts Of Middle Adulthood
There are many emotions that coincide with middle adulthood. Three of the most critical
concepts of middle adulthood are midlife crisis, empty nest syndrome, and sandwich generation.
Each concept and stage are apparent in many people around the age 42 45 and can last from 2 5
years. However, these ages can fluctuate for various environmental reasons and circumstances.
Also, this can have gender and culture variations that can affect the age and longevity. A midlife

The sandwich generation is when an adult is not only taking care of their own children, but also
their parents. In many cultures such as Asian tradition taking care of your parents is required and a
mark of adulthood. The generation is typically between the ages of 30 and 55. This number is so
widely raged because many environmental circumstance depend upon it. People in this stage may
become stressed, depressed, and have a loss of identity. Also, people in this generation have to be
very patient and empathetic towards others to withstand the difficulties and responsibilities of being

Effects Of Climate Change On Our Planet
Karen Leswing Professor Susan Browning ENG 112 83 July 11, 2016 Charlotte, North Carolina
s Solution to Climate Change Climate change has taken its toll on our planet. Record heat, fires,
drought and snowstorms have all become the norm in our worldwide weather patterns. The city
of Charlotte has also suffered from the consequences of climate change with extreme
temperatures, record snowstorms and ice storms. It is apparent that action must be taken
immediately to stop climate change (Sargent). How can a small city attempt to solve a global
issue such as climate change? Can climate change be solved on an individual level? The answer
is yes; a small city can greatly reduce carbon emissions by each individual s choice of clean
energy. Climate change has been identified as a terrible threat to all living things on our planet.
Cities and individual companies have recognized that coal burning power plants create massive
amounts of carbon emissions that contaminate air quality and cause climate change (Sargent).
North Carolina has a personal experience with the negative effects of coal burning power. Not
only did local coal burning power plants emit massive amounts of carbon emissions into the air
but after these coal plants were shut down, millions of tons of coal ash is were behind with no
effective plan in place to handle the toxic substance (Henderson). As coal burning power plants are

Essay about The Vietnam War s Effects on American Society
The Vietnam War s Effects on American Society
Abstract
The Vietnam War had a profound effect on American society.
It changed the way we viewed our government, the media, and our Constitutional rights. Because of
this shift in perspective, the country was torn apart and yet still came together in new and different
ways. The Vietnam War s contraversiality spurred a great many sources of protest, against our
government s use of power, how far we could stretch the rights of free expression, and primarily
against the violence of the war itself. These changes in the behavior of society have left a lasting
mark on our perception and the demand to be informed since that influencial period of social
turmoil.

It was not just a war in Vietnam or in
America, but the war became a symbol (Gioglio, 20).
One of the most prevelant type of protests were based on the imparting of knowledge. These were
known as teach ins. The teach ins were really the first step in raising conciousness to the impact the
war could have(Fever, 11).
They were the first things to get people informed and involved. Starting with teach ins during the
spring of
1965, the massive antiwar efforts centered on the colleges, with the students playing leading roles.
These teach ins were mass public demonstrations, usually held in the spring and fall seasons. The
teach in movement was at first, a gentle approach to the antiwar activity (Gettleman, 54).
Teach ins were one important way to bring more people into the antiwar movement. During a teach
in, students, faculty
members, and guest speakers discussed issues concerning the
Vietnam war (McCormick, 37). The teach ins began at the
University of Michigan in March of 1965, and spread to other campuses, including Wisconsin in
April. These protests at some of America s most well known universities attracted the public eye.
The demonstrations were one form of attempting to go beyond mere words and research and
reason, and to put direct pressure on those who were conducting policy in apparent disdain for the
will expressed by the voters
(Spector, 30 31). Although

Essay on Point of View in Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield
The point of view that Katherine Mansfield has chosen to use in Miss Brill serves two purposes.
First, it illustrates how Miss Brill herself views the world and, second, it helps the reader take the
same journey of burgeoning awareness as Miss Brill. The story is written in a third person

similar fashion. She is her own narrator, watching people around her and filling in their thoughts
to create stories to amuse herself. Compared to most people, Miss Brill s thinking is atypical.

As Miss Brill travels from her isolated existence into self awareness, the reader is also taken on
the same trip. The reader s perceptions of Miss Brill during the story mirror and shift along with
Miss Brill s perceptions about herself. The reader is given no real clues about Miss Brill other
than her profession, a teacher, and that she goes to the park every Sunday. Her age is
unidentified and hard to guess; the reader is given no connection between Miss Brill and others
her age. In fact, Miss Brill comes across as much younger than she is, mainly due to her disdain
toward older people. She finds them odd [and] silent . . . from the way they stared they looked
as though they d just come from dark little rooms or even even cupboards! (259). Just as she only
focuses on other people, the reader is only told about the people surrounding her at the park.
When she decides that she is an actress, the reader gains a similar insight about Miss Brill; she
sees her world as an intricate show that can be thrown out of balance by one absence. At the
climax of the story, when the two young lovers comment on her appearance, the reader is
suddenly aware of how old Miss Brill really is and how unaware she was about that fact. Miss
Brill and the reader experience the shattering of her self image at the same time. For the first time
during the story, both the reader and she see

Using Fixed And Variable Costs Within The Report
Exhibit 2 contains both fixed and variable costs within the report. Other costs we must look at is
the opportunity of the purchased computer equipment, which has a value of roughly $25,500.
The leased computer equipment cannot be cancelled, thus we consider it a sunk cost and do not
take it into consideration. Next, we look at the purpose of creating PDS. The purpose was to
help deregulate PTC and rescind the push through of a rate increase. If they shut down PDS,
PTC would have to pay the market rate for their data needs, which will increase this cost by two
fold. Additional issues to take into consideration are the burdens of finding alternate use for the
space PDS is currently renting and the opportunity cost of wages being paid to the PDS
employees. Can we invest the wage pay somewhere else for a higher return? Asking these questions
demonstrates the value of looking at PDS in depth to determine if more value exists than appears
within the initial reports.
Digging deeper, the first number we examine is how many computer hours PDS has to sell to
break even. We will assume the intercompany hours billed at $400 will average 205 per month.
The variable costs include power, parts of operation wages, and materials. Next, we calculate the
unit contribution (sales variable cost). The average cost for power is the total 3 month power cost
divided by the total time computers were used during this time (total revenue plus service hours) or
5028/1110 = $4.53. Operations cost

Importance Of Baroque In Art
A number of modern artists have focused on reflecting personal perception of the world through a
contemporary Baroque style in art. The increasing popularity of Baroque nowadays is due to the
complex processes that took place in society and the solutions the modern culture has to offer to
resolve them. Truly, through the history, the emergence of Baroque
elements has always reflected the
complexity of human life, followed by technological progress and cultural exchange. Eventually,
Baroque, the style characterized by extravagance and drama, has been defined as anti classical,
innovative and experimental, intended to touch directly the beholder, individual of diverse and
pluralistic society.
At the same time, Baroque has influenced not every medium of art in the works of contemporary
artists of the 21st century. Such elements as sculpture, architecture, and music have been hardly
influenced by the inspirations of the previous centuries. Indeed, the style that has emerged during
the period of discoveries in new sciences, exploration of new lands, increased trade and the
reformation of church, could barely provide any solutions for artists born three centuries later,
especially in those mediums of art, where the reference for the past signifies of the regression of an
art element development.
Indeed, it is not possible to imagine someone could compete with Gianlorenzo Bernini in feeling of
the Baroque style in sculpture. Thus, the most prominent works of the artist, known for

Narcissism Research Papers
Narcissism is the complete lack of empathy for others as well as over glorified self esteem. This
belief leads to a decrease in the amount of relationships because narcissists hold themselves on
such a high pedestal. The history of this cautionary trait has come from the self esteem movement
which started to help the depression of people about their bodies, lives, and jobs. Creating this
movement started out well; however, the extremists took it to a whole new level. So what once
was a positive now became a negative because people only care for themselves. The characteristic
of narcissismis found in Millennials more today than ever before. Through relationships, jobs, and
views on entitlements, narcissism can be seen as leading Millennial... Show more content on

...we are now a society in which more than 4 in 10 children are born out of wedlock, and in
which a teenager has less chance of being raised by both biological parents... (Taylor 54).
Narcissists are incapable of long term relationships, and the fact that families are now also
having holes, shows that the narcissism level is increasing. A lot of times, children are being
raised by their grandparents or one biological parent and a step parent. This is due to the
narcissist s need of a trophy significant other who helps them to feel good. When a significant
other starts to slack off with the praise or doesn t fit what the other person wants, they leave.
Much of narcissists behavior in relationships is game playing , (Twenge 215). This behavior is the
use of a person to satisfy another s wants or needs until they don t work for the person anymore.
Millennial America is changing from narcissism and allowing this characteristic to run the
decisions people make. In The Next America, the author states the decision making world
perfectly, How Americans respond in their public choices as well as their private behaviors will
go a long way toward determining whether the generations spend the coming decades at war or in
harmony (Taylor 55). The quote should spark some interest into what your decisions will affect
and how the world will be different depending on what you choose. So choose

Foreign-Born American, Yes You Can Become President!...
Article 2, Section 1, Clause 5 of the United States Constitution states that no person except a natural
born citizen shall be eligible to run for President of the United States. This was due to John Jay, the
presiding officer of the Constitutional Convention, who wrote a letter to George Washington in
1787 arguing that the Commander in Chief of the United StatesArmy should not be anyone but a
natural born American (Schneider 6). The Founders were concerned that subversive enemies could
force the fledgling republic back to foreign monarchical rule. Delegates did not want the United
States to suffer the same fate as Poland, which in 1772 had been partitioned among Austria, Prussia
and Russia after agents of those countries bribed Polish... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, foreign born American soldiers have bravely fought for the United States during
World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, and the War in Iraq (Barker 16).
These heroes were not American born citizens; however, they were so loyal to the United States
that some of them have even sacrificed their lives to help ensure the freedom of American
citizens (Barker 16). Some of these soldiers and foreign born Americans have witnessed the
cruelty of communist nations, such as the Soviet Union. That was why they had decided to
abandon their home and travel overseas to the United States. These soldiers fought for the United
States because they believed in the truth of American society and American freedom just as
firmly as they believed in freedom when they first gave up their homes and decided to live in the
Unites States. If foreign born American soldiers could make the decision to love America more
than their lives on the battlefield, then how could people say that foreign born American citizens
would favor other nations more than America if they were to become President? In addition, more
than 700 immigrants in uniform have been awarded the Medal of Honor since the Civil War, and
60,000 now serve in the military (Kasindorf 7). This is not a small number. It shows the

The Importance Of Repercussion In Dead Poets Society
Robin Williams stated in the film, Dead Poets Society, that those who have now passed, [were]
[f]ull of hormones, just like you. Invincible just like you feel. The world is their oyster
(Williams). When people believe that they are invincible, they forget that their actions have
repercussions. In the belief that the world is their oyster, obtaining the pearl inside to achieve
success is nothing but a solo mission, which is apparent in the novels Oedipus the King , Death
of a Salesman and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. In these literary works the
repercussions from being covetous leads to hurting the ones dearest to them by risking what is
important in life and eliciting self destruction. In life, rapaciousness drives a person until they lose
the ability to rationalize their actions, resulting in the detachment of others. When one is greedy
they lack the morality of working their way up to accomplish a goal. Instead they are steadfast in
taking unnecessary risks in order to achieve. Unfortunately, they compromise their relationships as
well.To start off with, Family is the most important factor in one s life. Risking it, regrettably
ensues problems in the relationships with others. For instance, Biff from Death of a Salesman has
an ongoing disagreement with his father, Willy. The two cannot seem to get along because Biff
believes his father has had the wrong dreams (Miller 138). In contrast, Biff himself cannot seem to

Analysis Of Mary Shelly s Frankenstein
Hana Eisert Wlodarczyk
Mrs. Crays
English/ Frankenstein
9 March 2016
Good or Evil?
Frankenstein is a nonfiction novel written by Mary Shelly in 1818. The story starts when a student
is studying in college and he creates a creature that is overtaking everything. Victor, Creature s
creator, thinks he is beautiful then realizes the horrible looks of him so he runs away from him.
This creature just wants the love of a human because he does not feel human without that, just like
every other human being in the world. The monster has traveled all through the town and come
across something that he was not happy with so he made some not so good decisions through his
journey. Throughout this novel the creature has tried to get humans to realize that he is a genuinely
good person, but every time, they seem him as a creature that was made of spare animal and
human parts. Victor does not even realize that he is treating him this way but as they continue
there are even more people that just look on the outside of him instead of the actions or words
he was doing or saying. Thematically, many people see the evil in a person before they are able
to realize that before the good they are trying to do for them. When the creature was first created
by Victor was very pleased by his creation. He was proud of what he had produced from the
numerous hours of dedication to create the prefect being. Victor says, I had worked hardly for two
years, for the sole purpose of infusing life into an

Examples Of Injustice In To Kill A Mockingbird
As long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest.
Nelson Mandela s quote speaks volumes toward injustice in the world today. Racism, gender bias,
unfair treatment, and false assumptions all contribute to the concept of injustice. Harper Lee s To
Kill a Mockingbird novel demonstrates many forms of injustice, and while some may seem petty,
they still have a massive effect on a person. Lee Presents an unfair trial tainted by racism and many
presumptuous people who take sides in matters when they do not even know the whole story.
Clearly, To Kill a Mockingbirdcarries a constant theme of injustice through racism, unfair
assumptions, and the stubbornness of man.
Firstly, the novel presents injustice through racism. Harper Lee excellently portrays injustice
through racism in the justice system and by rash actions. For example, when the Ewells falsely
accuse African American Tom Robinson of rape, the trial clearly reveals Robinson s innocence....

The novel characterizes this form of injustice from through hasty adults and the silly thoughts of
children. For example, Scout finds herself in a quarrel with her unruly cousin Francis when he
belittles her father s work, and afterwards, she says to her Uncle, Well, in the first place you
never stopped to gimme a chance to tell you my side of it you just lit right into me (113). While
both Francis and Scout were at fault in this situation, Scout s Uncle failed to hear both sides of the
story and unfairly rebukes only Scout. Another petty, but still important, injustice results from
Scout and her brother s false beliefs about Boo Radley. They assume that he is an evil person who
would kill them if they set foot on his property, but discovering his kind character proves them
wrong in the end. Clearly, the novel shows how injustice can spring from people s false
assumptions or

Fashion or Textile Designers and History
To what extent have fashion/textile designers working over the last thirty years used historical
sources to inform their practice?
History offers invaluable inspiration for contemporary designers, helping to develop and inform
ideas. Exploration of history creates a context to work within and build concepts from, helping to
add value and vigour. In this essay I will explore and explain how designers have used the past to
inform their work, whether an expression of political, social, or traditional opinions. I will
particularly focus on Alexander McQueen s political approach, and how he addresses his ancestral
history. I will also look at Vivienne Westwoods work and how it challenges but also commemorates
tradition. Next, I will study Cath Kidston s play on vintage and how she evokes nostalgia.
Vivienne Westwood
Westwood s epoch began all about rebellion and confrontation. Along with her partner Malcolm
McLaren, they opened their first shop Let it Rock in 1971 (Price 2014), in which they made and
sold Teddy boy style clothes a rebellion against the popular hippie fashion that lingered on from the
late sixties. We can see her use of historical inspiration, using the rock and roll character to oppose
the carefree, light hearted hippie influence. In a time of recession and mass youth unemployment,
she used her divergent rock fashions to prompt the younger generations to challenge blithe fashions
and confront politics and the hypocrisy of British tradition and good

WELCOME ADDRESS by Host Pastor
The great God that deserves to be praised greatly is our God (Psalm 145:3). Jesus Christ, the
same yesterday, today and forever. Hallelujah! It was just like yesterday when the Lord told us
three years before this parish was birthed that we would be coming to Akron. As it is written,
Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase, we have seen God s
faithfulness over the last seven years in every life, every marriage, every home in the church, in the
parish and in our land.
Our ever faithful, ever true Lord and Savior has proven Himself in innumerable ways as The
Alpha and the Omega. We remember the Stow Ohio dinner with friends held on Sunday, May
9th 2010. HE has shown that He alone has the final say in the affairs of men, The Almighty. As
our Helper, He told us we are stepping into our season of help. HE is still manifesting Himself as

Homelessness Is The Main Driving Force Behind The Rise Of...
Homelessness affects an estimated 650,000 Americans in the United States daily and the number of
people experiencing homelessness is continuing to rise across the United States and more
specifically in Massachusetts. According to the 2014 Annual Homelessness Assessment, between
2013 2014 Massachusetts saw the fourth largest increase in homelessnessin the United States and on
any given night an estimated 3000 individual shelter beds are occupied ( Basic Facts on, 2016).
Furthermore, homelessness magnifies poor health, exposes those in crowded shelters to
communicable diseases, complicates management of chronic illnesses and uncovers deep fault
lines in our healthcare system (O Connell et al., 2010). Lack of access to affordable housing is the
main driving force behind the rise in homelessness, followed closely by poverty, mental health
disabilities, and substance abuse disorders. These individuals need: services that address their
tangible needs for housing, income and employment; access to flexible, low demand interventions;
and long term continuous treatment and support (Wells, 2003). Low threshold housing programs
and the Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) service model are two promising
methods of improving the present situation for the homeless.
Low threshold housing programs are geared toward the chronically homeless population whereas
the BHCHP service model is geared toward the general homeless population. According to the

  • 2. Summary Of Seven Myths Of The Spanish Conquest For decades, the history of Latin America has been shrouded in a cover of Spanish glory and myth that misleads and complicates the views of historians everywhere. Myths such as the relationship between natives and conquistadors, and the individuality of the conquistadors themselves stand as only a few examples of how this history may have become broken and distorted. However, in Seven Myths of the Spanish ConquestMatthew Restall goes to great lengths to dispel these myths and provide a more accurate history of Latin American, in a readable and enjoyable book. Restall s ultimate goal in writing this book is to provide readers and scholars alike with a more realistic viewpoint and history of the Spanish conquest. He wishes to dispel the many myths that accompany the epic tale so as to provide a better understanding of who the natives were and, more importantly to Restall, who the Spanish were. He does an excellent job of questioning the who, what, and where of the personalities and motives of the men involved in conquest. These questions are heartily answered in a well written and easy to read history book. Restall answers his own questions present in the introduction by focusing each chapter on a different myth. Chapter one discusses that the men who partook in conquest were valiant, rich, and outstanding. This idea gives credit to both the Spanish interpretation and the beautifully rugged men cast in Hollywood adaptations. The author notes, additionally, that the myth ... • 3. A Brief Note On An International Environment Agreement Assignment 2: Individual Research Paper on an International Environment Agreement United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification: Empowering Local Populations to the expense of concrete results Introduction The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was adopted in 1994 as a product of the Rio Conference which took place in 1992. It attempts to combat desertification which is defined as land degradation in arid, semi arid and dry sub humid areas resulting from various factors including climatic variations and human activities. (Marc Johnson, 2006, Chapter 1) Land degradation is a process of reduction or loss of the biological and economic productivity and complexity of cropland, pasture and forest. By nature, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through its dual focus on environment and development, the Convention is seen as the perfect approach to sustainable development. Since its creation, objectives have evolved and now consist in influencing international actors by raising awareness, providing strong policy frameworks in affected countries, enhancing scientific knowledge about desertification, identifying and addressing capacity building. Finally, it also aims to mobilize as well as improve financial resources (Secretariat UNCCD, 2013). Stinger and numerous Conference of Parties (COP) reports highlight the concerning lack of benchmarks and indicators to understand phenomena, monitor convention s impacts and progress as well as evaluate possible strategies. This is mostly a consequence of the absence of means to conduct measurements in affected countries. What are the challenges the Convention is facing? So far, has the UNCCD achieved some its targets? Identify and describe The UNCCD has to deal with many challenges arising from the nature of the environmental problem itself and the structure of the Convention. There is no international consensus on the definition of desertification, nor the possible solutions to revert its effect on land and populations. The conception and interpretation of this process is difficult and therefore hard to implement in national policies. Moreover concrete results are slow to come about, ... • 4. The Access Control System For Providing Physical Security TO PROVIDE PHYSICAL SECURITY? Introduction In the present world, the Access Control System is used in all the places where it is intended that a system should allow the authorized persons to get in or leave the facilities as and when required and also to keep a record about these movements. Basically it determines who is allowed to enter or exit; similarly allowed to exit or enter even with the time when they are allowed to enter or exit. In the past, the same job could have been partially done by locks and keys. But there were number of limitations of the mechanical locks keys. Firstly, it did not provide any restriction to the key holders to specific times dates. Secondly, it did not provide any records of the key used to a specific door. Thirdly, the keys can be easily copied or transferred to the unauthorized person. Finally, when the key is lost, the authorized person losses his access to the protected areas and the locks must be re keyed. Electronic Access Control System has come forward to solve the problems of mechanical locks keys. The system uses a computer network where a wide range of credentials or identifications are used to replace those mechanical keys. In the system, when the credentials are provided then the access is granted; the door is unlocked for a predetermined time and the transaction is recorded. Again, when the access is denied, the door remains locked and the attempted access are also recorded. The system can also monitor the door and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Invention Of The World Wide Web The present society of today embodies a distinct shape, organization, role, and feel from the societies of a millennium ago, a century ago, or even a decade ago. These metamorphoses are, in part, caused by the multiple technological revolutions that our society has experienced throughout its history. Each time a technological revolution occurs when a novel technology is introduced to build upon or succeed an older one the entire society (and the individuals that comprise it) changes. However, as Marshall McLuhan suggested within the printed pages of Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, the medium is the message (McLuhan 1964). In other words, these shifts are not as much the direct result of the invention s content or it s use, as they are the outcomes of effects that are intrinsic within the technology itself. Although McLuhan published this work in 1964, almost thirty years before the invention of the World Wide Web , this adage still holds true for the Internet today. Technologies, such as the Internet, should not be viewed, using the instrumentalist perspective, as inherently neutral tools that are valuable only for their ends, intended purposes, or practical benefits (Ellul, Wilkinson, and Merton 1964, Carr 2010, 45). Rather, the means themselves, or what McLuhan would consider the medium, should also be recognized as carrying messages that hold powerful, unintended consequences for society (Ellul, Wilkinson, and Merton 1964, McLuhan 1964). Dating back to the 1920 s, the term auteur was debated over, claiming to describe an author of script and film maker as one and the same versus the view of scripts being appointed from authors or scriptwriters (1996, p12). Clouseau continues for the hotel room door yet stumbles over a suitcase. While finally for the topper topper , Clouseau suspiciously checks the door and flings it wide open while peering out, only to be hit by the door from behind. Audiences are encouraged to adapt completely to this style in order for the comic lines and/or events to take on a familiar quality of convention rather than becoming abstractions to the field of movement or speech (Meisel, 1983). * Edwards genius at creating a logically evolving chaos and building laughter through long stretches of farcical sostenuto (1981, p.26) is what sets him apart from other directors of the time, yet is respected as being apart of the few who were to be considered apart of the pantheon of directors (1973, p50). The ideology of Hollywood surrounding S.O.B was Blake Edwards intentions to assault the motion picture industry as thanks for the excessive disputes between studio executives and himself in order to maintain Hollywood success (1981, p39). Within the chapter of Authorship, James Naremore notes that authors are written by a series of historical, social and cultural determinants (1999, p22), which can be said to easily differentiate films precisely from one another. We see a paradoxical linkage to some of these determinants in each of Edwards films. S.O.B and Sunset (1988) both illustrate the malice and treachery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Summary Of Gelebor s Departure came to an exit from the cave, but outside is still populated by more of the falmer, a narrow crevice through the mountains, full of falmer huts and guards, and traps. In one of the huts we found a rare falmer book, it looks like the librarian at the Winterhold college may pay well for it, so we took it along. We both agree, once we are done here, we do not want to see another falmer or another chaurus for a long time. Imagine my relief when we found the final shrine and filled the ewer. We headed towards the inner sanctum, where we should find out what has gone wrong with Gelebor s brother and why he is no longer responding. The sanctum is an impressive looking building, it s a shame it is abandoned and no longer used. Pouring the water at the entrance caused the doors to open so we could venture inside; the inside looks just as impressive. As we moved deeper inside it was full of skeletons of the worshippers and frozen falmer, trapped where they were standing. Eventually we got to the chapel, and here we saw arch curate Vyrthur, he admitted he had created the prophecy just for the purpose of bringing a daughter of coldharbour to him, for his insidious purposes. Nevertheless, getting a job was much harder than Ehrenreich expected, so she subjected herself to endless networking events, job coaching, and even to an image makeover, all designed to make her more attractive to potential employers. However, Barbara Ehrenreich s failure points out the issues people may face in job marker and gives several suggestions to help them to overcome those issues. • 12. Immigration Protest Introduction: A day without immigrants protest was one that spread an ideal ology throughout businesses and labor force. The goal of this protest was to unite as immigrants and show what kind of hit the economy and labor force would take if immigrants weren t there to fuel it. This has taken place twice in recent history, once on May 1, 2006 and recently on February 21, 2017. One could argue whether they are successful in their efforts to show how important immigration is to the American economy. Background studies: Immigrants make up 12 percent of the population and more than 17 percent of the working population. This means that based on population immigrants are more involved in the workforce than natives themselves. With trump getting elected to Presidency, and his views on immigration control and it being viewed as discrimination, one could say that he is just putting fuel on the flame. According to Moriah Butler, Immigration protest are viewed by the general public in a disruptive manner with people saying that there will never be a right time to protest (Butler 1.) • 16. The Classical Nature of the Sui Dynasty Classical WHAT IS CLASSICAL? There are multiple meanings of classical, originally the term classical is a way to describe the literature, culture and art of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. Though this is the original definition of the word classical it is well argued that many different civilizations and arts, literature, and culture can be described as classical. EXAMPLE An example would be classic music as this would be referencing European music around the 18th to 19th century. JUSTIFYING CLASSICAL Another definition of classical is the most developed stage of art from a civilization such as Chinese classic poetry or classical music. Having these two quite contradicting definitions, to justify, something that is classical gives a great impact as well as long impact on today s society whether the impact was either positive or negative. THE SUI DYNASTY An example of this new justified definition would be the Sui Dynasty and how it has impacted China so much to which they had introduced a new religion that now takes up 20% to 50% of China s population. Brief History During the 6th century, the hardworking micromanager Yang Jian had ascended the Sui dynasty. • 19. Preformity In Love Is A Fallacy By Max Shulman Fallacies get the best out of all of us. Many people tend to give their own point of view on matters that interest them. However, at times they are not credible because they do not have evidence to support their reasoning. Max Shulman wrote a passage, Love is a Fallacy, that discusses the stereotypes of woman. Shulman demonstrates conformity in society through the acceptance of segregation of women and other minorities. These acts of conformity and presumptions are conveyed through the use of fallacies. Using this passage as an example, fallacies are shown to be used in many arguments; as a way to change the subject or get out of answering a question. In the passage, Shulman uses different types of fallacies: ambiguity, presumption, and relevance. Shulman uses fallacies of ambiguity in his passage to give multiple interpretations of his message to the audience. An example of equivocation stated in the passage is, Beautiful she was. She was not yet of pin up proportions, but I felt sure that time would supply the lack. (Shulman 382). This is an example of equivocation because there are many propositions that leads to the final statement. However, the propositions being made do not make sense in the final claim. The narrator states that Polly is beautiful, but he uses deceptive language to hide that he thinks that she is truly not perfect yet. Critics of Systemic theory, as a result, argue that the overall thrust of U.S. policy in Syria and the Middle East in its entirety, is due primarily to the supremacy of interest groups in American domestic politics, specifically, the Israel lobby. In IR theory, the primacy of interest groups, is understood in international relations as Society centered. Society centered explanations focus on domestic interest groups: a group of people that seeks to influence public policy based on a common interest or concern. From this lens, U.S. support for Israel, thanks to Israeli interest groups, has been justified by the claim that both states are threatened by terrorist groups originating in the Arab or Muslim world, like Bashar al Assad in Syria. Israel is thus seen as a crucial ally in the war on terror because its enemies are America s enemies. The claim that the Israel lobby diverts U.S foreign policy from the American national interest by convincing American politicians that U.S. and Israeli interests are essentially identical, does not stand up, as American foreign policy under Donald Trump prioritizes fighting terrorism in Syria, not the Assad regime, which is an enemy of Israel. Having lived ten years in Sudan and six years in the United Arab Emirates, I have therefore developed very strong concise opinions about both countries. Sudan being located in Africa and the United Arab Emirates located in the Middle East share some similarities and difference which will be shown through talking about each country s tradition, economy and architecture and rituals. I believe the quality of living in the UAE is of higher standards, due to the advancements made in its infrastructure, economy and education. In Sudan there are around 114 languages being spoken there but the most dominant language being Arabic. The official language spoken in the UAE is also Arabic. • 22. Summary of Theodore Roethke s Poem My Papa s Waltz Affection in My Papa s Waltz Theodore Roethke s My Papa s Waltz is a gentle poem, made so by its affectionate and simple tone, its innocence, its light heartedness, and its humor. While other readers, like John Ciardi, have found it to be a poem of terror (Fong 80), when one considers the original drafts, as John J. McKenna does, one sees a much less forbidding melodrama and a much more down to earth representation of home life. This paper will show how Roethke s Waltz uses language, tone, and rhyme to convey, with childlike sensibility, a happy image of an energetic dancewith one s father. Roethke s corrections in the original draft seem to be geared towards removing any type of suggestive language or imagery that might rob the poem of its lightheartedness. In the original draft, the boy is a girl and the mother s countenance / Could not unscrew itself (McKenna 35). Apparently the sexual connotations of the latter term were to be avoided and the closeness of a small, dizzy girl to whiskey on your breath was likely an unwanted image as well. By replacing the girl with a boy, and changing unscrew to unfrown, Roethke removed from the poem the two main potential obstacles: abusive, neglectful tone and sexual imagery. Carefully observing the suggestions associated to terms in the English language, Roethke sets the reader in front of a scene of rough housing between father and son, with mother looking on disapprovingly (but comically) because their ... The relationship of a child with their parent is one of the strongest influences in one s later life and relations, so much so that a child is sometimes forced to repress their true desires. The novel tracks Elizabeth Bennet s relationship with Mr. Darcy, a relationship which endures a stark, unexpected change that is a result of Elizabeth s Oedipal complex. Initially, Elizabeth detests Mr. Darcy, as she views him and a narcissistic man with unreasonably high expectations; however, near the end of the novel, she becomes infatuated with him and the two end up getting married. Mr. Bennet, Elizabeth s father, is a very soft spoken man who deliberately defies his wife, his female counterpart, and doesn t seem to openly express his love for his family very often. That is, with the exception of Elizabeth who happens to be his favorite daughter, as demonstrated throughout the book through his distinct affection and care towards her and his indifference towards his other four daughters. Privilege is who gets to be around the table, who is invited to the conversation (Stonehouse, 2017). It s a division of opportunity based on a history of socialized understandings of difference. But given this overwhelming landscape, Canada hopes to rewrite this history, to guide and inspire Aboriginal peoples and Canadians in a process of reconciliation and renewed relationships that are based on mutual understandingand respect (CC). This hope is encapsulated in what is known as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The TRC represents a compilation of accounts that have come from the enduring legacy of Indian Residential Schools (TRC, 2015). • 33. Motives For Imperialism God, gold and glory was the main motive of explorers during the Age of Exploration. God meant the desire to spread and enlarge christianity, and glory meant greater power and larger empire. The countries we are comparing to this saying include South Africa, Australia, Mexico, Peru, New Zealand, U.S.A (and states within it), Egypt, Central American countries, India, Ethiopia, and Jamaica. In all the mentioned countries, the Aboriginals in the countries being explored and colonized by imperialistic countries, were affected negatively. This is because imperialistic countries such as Britain, Spain, Portugal, and France had ethnocentric beliefs. Considering that Aboriginals of the countries being colonized had different beliefs in god, the imperialistic countries usually pushed their own religion on the Indigenous peoples. Obviously, the Indigenous people did not want to change their traditional practices. In response to the Aboriginals being defiant, the European countries became violent, and even... Congrats @Cubs. This is so heavy. (@realmikefox) His tweet was a reference to a prediction made in the 1989 film, Back to the Future Part II, in which Fox starred as the lead character of Marty. Even though the film was released twenty seven years ago, and its predecessor was released four years prior to that, the tweet itself garnered over eighteen thousand Twitter likes, showcasing that series relevance alive in today s society. The Back to the Future trilogy has made its way into the hearts of millions; still being loved now just as much as when it was first released. The film trilogy, produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Robert Zemeckis, stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as the lead characters. Supporting actors include Lea Thompson, Thomas F. Throughout three films, Marty attempts to re align history and make it back to 1985 unharmed. The series was a success at the box office, making almost one billion dollars worldwide between all three films (Thompson, 667). Record heat, fires, drought and snowstorms have all become the norm in our worldwide weather patterns. The city of Charlotte has also suffered from the consequences of climate change with extreme temperatures, record snowstorms and ice storms. It is apparent that action must be taken immediately to stop climate change (Sargent). How can a small city attempt to solve a global issue such as climate change? Can climate change be solved on an individual level? The answer is yes; a small city can greatly reduce carbon emissions by each individual s choice of clean energy. Climate change has been identified as a terrible threat to all living things on our planet. Cities and individual companies have recognized that coal burning power plants create massive amounts of carbon emissions that contaminate air quality and cause climate change (Sargent). It changed the way we viewed our government, the media, and our Constitutional rights. The Vietnam War s contraversiality spurred a great many sources of protest, against our government s use of power, how far we could stretch the rights of free expression, and primarily against the violence of the war itself. One of the most prevelant type of protests were based on the imparting of knowledge. These were known as teach ins. The teach ins were really the first step in raising conciousness to the impact the war could have(Fever, 11). They were the first things to get people informed and involved. Starting with teach ins during the spring of 1965, the massive antiwar efforts centered on the colleges, with the students playing leading roles. These teach ins were mass public demonstrations, usually held in the spring and fall seasons. The teach in movement was at first, a gentle approach to the antiwar activity (Gettleman, 54). Teach ins were one important way to bring more people into the antiwar movement. During a teach in, students, faculty members, and guest speakers discussed issues concerning the Vietnam war (McCormick, 37). The teach ins began at the University of Michigan in March of 1965, and spread to other campuses, including Wisconsin in April. These protests at some of America s most well known universities attracted the public eye. Other costs we must look at is the opportunity of the purchased computer equipment, which has a value of roughly $25,500. The leased computer equipment cannot be cancelled, thus we consider it a sunk cost and do not take it into consideration. Next, we look at the purpose of creating PDS. The purpose was to help deregulate PTC and rescind the push through of a rate increase. If they shut down PDS, PTC would have to pay the market rate for their data needs, which will increase this cost by two fold. Additional issues to take into consideration are the burdens of finding alternate use for the space PDS is currently renting and the opportunity cost of wages being paid to the PDS employees. Can we invest the wage pay somewhere else for a higher return? Asking these questions demonstrates the value of looking at PDS in depth to determine if more value exists than appears within the initial reports. Digging deeper, the first number we examine is how many computer hours PDS has to sell to break even. We will assume the intercompany hours billed at $400 will average 205 per month. The variable costs include power, parts of operation wages, and materials. Next, we calculate the unit contribution (sales variable cost). The average cost for power is the total 3 month power cost divided by the total time computers were used during this time (total revenue plus service hours) or 5028/1110 = $4.53. Operations cost ... The increasing popularity of Baroque nowadays is due to the complex processes that took place in society and the solutions the modern culture has to offer to resolve them. Truly, through the history, the emergence of Baroque elements has always reflected the complexity of human life, followed by technological progress and cultural exchange. Eventually, Baroque, the style characterized by extravagance and drama, has been defined as anti classical, innovative and experimental, intended to touch directly the beholder, individual of diverse and pluralistic society. At the same time, Baroque has influenced not every medium of art in the works of contemporary artists of the 21st century. Such elements as sculpture, architecture, and music have been hardly influenced by the inspirations of the previous centuries. Indeed, the style that has emerged during the period of discoveries in new sciences, exploration of new lands, increased trade and the reformation of church, could barely provide any solutions for artists born three centuries later, especially in those mediums of art, where the reference for the past signifies of the regression of an art element development. In this essay I will explore and explain how designers have used the past to inform their work, whether an expression of political, social, or traditional opinions. I will also look at Vivienne Westwoods work and how it challenges but also commemorates tradition. Next, I will study Cath Kidston s play on vintage and how she evokes nostalgia. Vivienne Westwood Westwood s epoch began all about rebellion and confrontation. Along with her partner Malcolm McLaren, they opened their first shop Let it Rock in 1971 (Price 2014), in which they made and sold Teddy boy style clothes a rebellion against the popular hippie fashion that lingered on from the late sixties. We can see her use of historical inspiration, using the rock and roll character to oppose the carefree, light hearted hippie influence. • 53. Host Pastor WELCOME ADDRESS by Host Pastor The great God that deserves to be praised greatly is our God (Psalm 145:3). Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever. Hallelujah! It was just like yesterday when the Lord told us three years before this parish was birthed that we would be coming to Akron. As it is written, Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase, we have seen God s faithfulness over the last seven years in every life, every marriage, every home in the church, in the parish and in our land. Our ever faithful, ever true Lord and Savior has proven Himself in innumerable ways as The Alpha and the Omega. We remember the Stow Ohio dinner with friends held on Sunday, May 9th 2010. HE has shown that He alone has the final say in the affairs of men, The Almighty. As our Helper, He told us we are stepping into our season of help. HE is still manifesting Himself as the ever fresh, ever new God, the God of a new thing. In His mercy HE taught us the power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ha! As it is written, you are complete in Him (Colossians 2:10), I prophesy a completion for you, your household, your vocation and your ministry IJN! Even as the Lord had to touch the blind man twice (Mark 8: 22 25) to bring restoration and completion his way. I rejoice with you, as you rejoice with the RCCG Jesus House Akron as we celebrate seven years of God s faithfulness that the Sovereign Lord himself will give you strength and support, and make you complete in every good thing (1 Peter 5:10). • 55. Homelessness Is The Main Driving Force Behind The Rise Of... Homelessness affects an estimated 650,000 Americans in the United States daily and the number of people experiencing homelessness is continuing to rise across the United States and more specifically in Massachusetts. According to the 2014 Annual Homelessness Assessment, between 2013 2014 Massachusetts saw the fourth largest increase in homelessnessin the United States and on any given night an estimated 3000 individual shelter beds are occupied ( Basic Facts on, 2016). Furthermore, homelessness magnifies poor health, exposes those in crowded shelters to communicable diseases, complicates management of chronic illnesses and uncovers deep fault lines in our healthcare system (O Connell et al., 2010). Lack of access to affordable housing is the main driving force behind the rise in homelessness, followed closely by poverty, mental health disabilities, and substance abuse disorders. These individuals need: services that address their tangible needs for housing, income and employment; access to flexible, low demand interventions; and long term continuous treatment and support (Wells, 2003). Low threshold housing programs and the Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) service model are two promising methods of improving the present situation for the homeless. Low threshold housing programs are geared toward the chronically homeless population whereas the BHCHP service model is geared toward the general homeless population. According to the federal ...
