Bright Lines Identity
The novel Bright Lines tells the story of a Muslim family in the heart of New York and their trials and
tribulations as they face the assimilation of American culture. Throughout the story, the young
characters, Maya, El, and Charu are the most affected by this assimilation because they clash with
what their elders think is best. El is a particularly interesting character because he is the most affected
by the division of the two cultures he was raised in. The audience often sees El confused about the
way he feels about his body while at the same time he is suffering from visions that haunt him.
Growing up was very tough for El because he faced many obstacles from her parents being murdered
because of the war to her complete inability to connect to anyone on a truly deep level. This, along
with the diverse cultural roles in his life, has left his in many predicaments where she struggles with
who he is. His identity is something that he longs for but has yet to find. A major aspect of his identity
of which he struggles greatly with is his sexuality. Religion in the novel is an influential aspect of El s
life and his struggle with his sexuality. The emphasis placed on religion is a very important part of life,
especially in India. In the culture presented in the novel, religion, while not presented often, is a huge
aspect of life. It is seen dictating every interaction a person has. While El does not show any
attachment to a particular religion (despite the time she prays

How to Incorporate the Fraud Triangle Theory
The term of fraud triangle was developed by Dr. Donald Cressey, a criminologist who studied
embezzlers. The three basic elements of fraud triangle include perceived pressure, perceived
opportunity, and the ability to rationalize. It explains the nature of many fraud offenders and also
become a tool to assess the risk of fraud. It is important to companies to incorporate the fraud triangle
theory in order to reduce the risk of fraud within their organization. From my standpoint, companies
should incorporate the fraud triangle from the following aspects.
First, companies should perform background investigation in order to uncover the perceived pressure.
The factors that create pressure include personal financial pressure (high levels of ... Show more

While some employees feel they are underpaid and deserve more money. A strong ethical culture and

acceptable in good corporate culture. Attractive employee benefit also helps company reduce the risk.
Once everyone is treated as a family member and satisfied with what they get from the company, they
will not commit fraud definitely. Although it is impossible to satisfy every employee, attractive benefit
should reduce the risk a lot.
In conclusion, I believe the fraud triangle is significant to a corporation. It is necessary to companies
to prevent fraud by incorporating the fraud triangle theory. After all, companies cannot only rely on
the external auditors or the fraud examiners. They have the responsibility to reduce the risk of fraud by
themselves. Probably, they can avoid some further costs as well. References

Theories Of Personality Psychology
Personality psychology is a broad branch of psychology that looks at various different personality
disorders. In addition to that, they also look at what a person does and how that relates to their own
personality. In this assignment, I took an article that looks at mate poaching and how it varies in

Government Support In Higher Education
Once again what a timely discussion question: Tuesday, January 17, 2017, Betsy DeVos Education
Secretary Confirmation Hearing gave the country a look at how politics play a major role in higher
education. The background of government support for higher education and students can be dated
back to the 1944 G.I. Bill, the National Defense Education Act of 1958, and the Higher Education Act
of 1965. According to the Student Aid Alliance (2013), the Higher Education Act of 1965 formed the
basis for the current federal student aid system, embodied the principle that all qualified students
should be able to attend college, regardless of their financial means . Nearly 80% of college students

Kraft and Furlong (2013) suggest that one of the major arguments for supporting education generally
is the belief that it is the great equalizer within U.S. society (p. 369). There are constantly two sides of
a contention. Here in the United States, individuals trust that education is the one of the best way to
keep up developing nations. It s a known idea that advanced education measures up to higher
compensations and more open doors. In any case, the issue is that the normal cost of advanced
education is more than an individual can bear the cost of for a long time at a state college. Along these
lines, many believe that the government should offset the cost of college (Sakamoto and Chapman,
2011). While there are others that trust that the legislature shouldn t pay for school. Ziguras and
McBurnie (2015) uncover that college educations are discretionary and it takes a family and a group
to make the correct circumstance for students to go to college through various scholarship
opportunities and student loans. The authors additionally propose that unfortunate, students through a
byproduct of human nature, the individuals who get a free ride are likewise less inclined to esteem the
education as opposed to working for it. Regardless of the arguments, Kraft and Furlong (2013),

Adapted Crisis Response Plan For Hilo Intermediate School
Adapted Crisis Response Plan Based on the presented information, the following adapted crisis
intervention protocols and plan are suggested for Hilo Intermediate School, and could also be
implemented in other schools within the district with adaptation as needed for each individual school s
unique needs. Additionally, it should be noted that while these steps are presented in a step format,
steps can be skipped or repeated as needed to assist in responding to varying crises, emergencies, and
disasters. First, a comprehensive school counseling program would be implemented that provided
preventative as well as intervention strategies that could help to prevent a crisis or intervene before a
crisis occurred (ASCA, 2012). The school counselor would provide classroom guidance lessons to
reach all students that would promote areas such as self esteem, and coping strategies. Further, the
counselor would provide professional development for teachers to look for warning signs such as
aggressive behavior and withdrawal, and refer them for individual or group counseling. During a
crisis, the first school personnel on the scene or with the person in crisis would assess and take control
of the situation until an administrator or other designee arrived. This would help with providing
students and others with clear directions and next step to take, thus alleviating anxiety. Next, the
person would address life safety, and call 911 or designate someone to call 911 (SHDOE, 2009). This

Five Elements Of Hilia
Mid August The four elements Fire, Air, Water, and Earth are what makes up Hilia (ha lay a), without
these elements Hilia as we know it would be no more. To protect the elements, the elements would
give special powers every 200 years to five children. Those five children that the elements chose,
would be taken away from their family at a young age and would be taught everything about the world
and more things no one could even imagine. Once the five children learned all that they could, the
elements would choose the most powerful one of them all, to be the leader of Hilia and also know as
the light element. With the good comes evil, Hilia has to have a balance of both to remain stable, so
the elements must pick another five children, but those children would not serve as light, they would
serve as the darkest part of Hilia. I was only two years old when I was taken from my family, I don t

are generally referred to as treaty shopping . Treaty shopping cases typically involve persons who are
residents of third States attempting to access indirectly the benefits of a treaty between two

The OECD has already analyzed the issue of bargain shopping in various settings:

Pros And Cons Of Labor
Landowners and former slaves were often engaged in labor contracts, often these relationships were
contentious and needed intervention by the Freedman s Bureau (the contract was created and
supported by the federal government written by the Freedman s Bureau.) Agreements between
freedmen laborers and planters stating terms of employment, such as pay, clothing, and medical care
due the freed men; the part of the crop to be retained by him; and whether a plot for growing
subsistence crops was to be provided. (http://freedmensbureau.com/labor.htm) Working relations
between the landowner and the former slaves were tense. White planters tried immediately after the
war to hire white workers for the field work, but found them not to be good workers. White workers
would work one or two days and quit.
Fair wages seem to always be argued, white farmers did not want to pay for the work produced by the
black farmers. Thus, the Freedman s Bureau had to negotiate labor contracts for those former slaves,
both men and women, so that contracts and wages were fair. The Bureau encouraged former major
planters to rebuild their plantations and urged freed blacks to return to work for them, kept an eye on
contracts between the newly free laborers and planters, and pushed whites and blacks to work together
as employers and employees rather than as masters and slaves.

Chief Master Sergeant Paul W. Airey Essay
Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy Introduction There are many types of leaders
not only in the military, but also in every civilian company around the world. We rarely see a leader
who possesses both vision and an ethical style of leadership; however, CMSgt Paul W. Airey, the first
Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, was this type of leader. Throughout this paper I will discuss
his ability to be both a visionary and ethical leader, which resulted in CMSgt Airey being labeled a
legend (LaGrone, 2009, p.2). He was described by the former Chief of Staff, General Norton Schwartz

CMSgt Airey used his leadership ability to address the low retention rates of first term Airmen, which
was at a 12 year low (Lucas, 1997). As a visionary leader he understood that it was not just the war in
Vietnam that was to blame for the low retention (Lucas, 1997). He realized that the promotion system
was broken and he set his sites on developing a system that would improve promotion opportunities
for every Airman (Lucas, 1997). Many would say that this was the most influential contribution he
made during his tenure. CMSgt Airey led a team from several career fields. He understood and used
the Z process according to Thomas N. Barnes Center (2012a) team building when he met with his
team (p.6 8). The teams use and understanding according to Thomas N. Barnes Center (2012a) change
management resulted in the the development of the Weighted Airman Promotion System (WAPS)
(p.17 19) (Lucas, 1997). Chief Airey was quoted as saying the end result was a promotion system
which today is still in effect and is by far the fairest, most equitable enlisted promotion system of any
of the armed forces (Lucas, 1997, p3). Furthermore, CMSgt Airey understood that you could not have
vision if you sat behind a desk and because of this he traveled to many bases throughout his tenure. He
was asked by the chairman of the House Banking Committee to go to Europe after many complaints
about outrageous interest rates on loans

Cause And Effect Of Hearing Loss
The biggest handicap in the world is negative thinking and that people handicap themselves by
concentrating only on the negative instead of the positive, said Heather Whitestone (Premiere
SPeakers Bureau). Even though Heather Whitestone was deaf, she showed the world that she was
going to have to work hard to achieve success. Many people in the world are affected by hearing loss.
About two million people in the United States are completely deaf, while eighteen to twenty one
people need hearing impairments (Mango 21). Symptoms of hearing loss may include difficulty
understanding words or phrases. Needing to turn the volume up, avoiding social situations, and trouble
hearing consonants are also signs of hearing loss (Mayo Clinic Staff). There are many types of hearing
loss that can be gained. Congenital deafness is when someone is born being deaf. Three out of every
one thousand infants in the United States are born with congenital deafness (Sheen 16). Another type
of hearing loss is the conductive deafness. In this case, the outer and middle ears, which send sound
waves to the inner ear, are having the hearing problems (11). Lastly, sensorineural hearing loss is
when there is damage in the inner ear. The inner ear s job is to convert sound waves to electrical or
neutral impulses, so then it can be carried to the brain and be translated (15). Causes of hearing loss
include environmental and natural causes. A premature baby is at a higher risk of being deaf (18). Ear

A second document that perfectly personifies the achieving of equality amongst individuals, is from
Malcolm X s The Ballot or the Bullet. Malcolm X, like many great orators, uses a number of literary
techniques in his speech to persuade the audience of his argument. One example of how Malcolm does
this, is seen as he states No, I m not an American. I m one of the 22 million black people who are the

nothing but disguised hypocrisy. Immediately following this, again states So, I m not standing here

as a victim of this American system. And I see America through the eyes of the victim. I don t see any

provide a specification data sheet that shows all the oil properties including oxidation, bearing wear

thousands of engine failures due to long oil intervals or no oil changes for years. Several owners drive
years without changing the oil and later realize that the engine oil has oxidized lost its viscosity and

unfortunately I was not able to find any kind of international activities around Denver area that were
scheduled for the end of March. Trip to the any kind of church did not sound very entertaining and
inspiring to me. I am not atheist and do believe that there is some kind of superstitious force or god
out there, but all the church visits and religious rituals or services bore me to death. So, I decided that
church trip would not be such a good idea. Since my last choice for this project was visiting Ethnic
grocery store I got on computer and googled Middle Eastern grocery stores in Denver . I decided to go
with Middle Eastern store and not Asian or Hispanic because I ve never been in one, and never really
tried any type of Middle Eastern food, but I do like to try different foods and love to cook. Besides
that I go to Asian stores quite often, and Hispanic stores are all over Colorado, so I thought they would
not be so exiting to me. After doing my research on internet I decided to go to the store named Arash ,
it is an Iranian grocery store in Aurora on the intersection of Parker Road and Yale Avenue. I chose it
because it had best reviews out of all Middle Eastern stores in Denver area, and appeared to be largest
with biggest variety of products. Arash is the Persian

Most People Find Themselves Getting Lost To Soothing Sounds
Most people find themselves getting lost to soothing sounds of music, both the melodies and lyrics are
able to take them to another world. A world of serenity and peace, a world where there is no longer
anything but the sweet sounds of a song. It s funny how something so trivial can possibly have such a
great effect on a person. They ignore the horrors around them as they are too busy focusing on how a
simple chain of notes and rhythms can be so beautiful regardless of what the song itself might be
about. In The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, he writes a book centered around a time period rampant
with self deprecation and despair but is somehow able to maintain a sense of hope and possible
happiness as an outcome through various writing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the use of third person, Zusak is also able to almost directly display how people are able to find
light in the darkest of places through others. The youngest kids were soothed by her voice, and
everyone else saw visions of the whistler running from the crime scene (381). Even when the
characters are faced with the danger of the air raids, Zusak uses this story of Leisel to show how
people rely on finding their own distraction within others in order to maintain calm and not expect the
worst. He is able to implement a beacon of light for very scared people that is incredibly effective.
Narrative point of view is pivotal in being able to identify just how there can always be something
hopeful and beautiful within any situation even if everything surrounding it is nothing but dark.
Symbolism is used in order to show the juxtaposition presented by the ideas of good and evil found
within mankind s nature. One instance of symbolism used by Zusak is stealing. Zusak uses the two
most youthful characters to display the act of thievery. In one particular moment it is Rudy who
decides to defect from Leisel and go on his own to try and steal something for some feeling of
retribution. It feels good, doesn t it? To steal something back (483). Through stealing, several of Zusak
s characters gain a new sense of control over their lives even when they are forced under the control of
other powers. For Zusak to use stealing, something traditionally

Why Is Tupac Controversial
The Controversial Life of Tupac Shakur
Despite his reputation as a criminal and a thug, Tupac Shakur effectively spread his message of the
unfairness in society through his storytelling, music, and public stance to increase awareness of
discrimination against African Americans.
Tupac Amaru Shakur came into the world on June 16, 1971 in Brooklyn, New York. While poverty
stricken,Tupac faced many obstacles as a child and an adolescent. All his life, Shakur used issues in
his family as an underlying conflict and expressed these issues while growing up. Tupac was very
interested in acting, so he enrolled in the Baltimore School of the Arts. Those close to him say, Tupac
showed a flair for performing. During Shakur s free time, he survived as ... Show more content on

Shakur also had been sentenced to eighteen months to four and a half years for sexual abuse charges.
After running into trouble with the law and doing time, Tupac stated that his time in jail left a lasting
impression. One associate with Newsweek said, He seemed to understand how sacred life was. With
this so called epiphany occurring in Tupac s life, some might think this could be a turning point.
Others disagreed saying, He said he wanted to get away from the violence and live a calmer life. But
those were only words. The people who disagreed had a strong point. As powerful and moving as
some of the things Tupac said were, they would need to be proved by his actions. The violence dialed
down a bit, but Tupac returned back to his old ways. He got bailed out of prison for $1 million by the
owner of Death Row Records, Marion Suge Knight. Shakur joined Death Row Records and got along
with Knight. Marion Knight even helped Tupac buy his mother a house. This shows Knight wanted
Tupac making music for his company. He even played another role in the movie B ullet. Then, Tupac
released the CD M e Against the World, w hich took his popularity to another level. It sold 500,000
copies upon its release. Dear Mama , a tribute to his mother on the CD, went made its way onto the
Top Ten. Tupac regained his place back on top after being released from prison, but did he ever leave

Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been By Joyce Carol Oates
The year was 1966 when Joyce Carol Oates published Where Are You Going, Where have you been?
a short story about your typical all American teenager at the edge of adulthood. Throughout this story,
Oates displays the main character, Connie, to wanting to portray herself as mature and rebellious. The
major theme in this story is fantasy and reality. However, Connies fantasy of being a grown woman
will soon turn into a reality full of regret. Oates introduces us to Connie and illustrates her as a young
girl who wants to perceive herself as a grown woman. Connie is constantly worried about her physical
appearance once she realizes that she is capable of being sexually attractive to the male persona. Her
search to mature sexually will eventually put her at an unsafe disadvantage. She does not realize it, but
connie is stuck in a fantasy of men. Almost like every other teenage girl she is mesmerized at the idea
of her being older even though she is only fifteen. Some might say that Connie wanting to be older is
normal for her age. I believe it has a lot to do with the poor relationship she has with her father. The
author expresses that Connie does not have a strong male figure in her life. In my opinion this plays a
huge role in why she is seeking male attention. National Fatherhood Initiative shows that girls who do
not have a father figure in their life are more likely to have behavioral issues ( Although Connie s
father is physically in her life; mentally he is not. He is

Research Paper On Chuck Yeager
Chuck Yeager and the Research of Space Flight
On October 14, 1947 the sound barrier was broken for the first time by Charles Elwood Yeager. Flying
at a rapid speed of 662 miles per hour over Rogers Dry Lake in Southern California. This was faster
than the speed of sound and opened up so many different possibilities for aviation as we know it. No
one had ever attempted something like this before because of the simplified theory that the transonic
drag rise would tear the aircraft apart (History, 2009). Chuck Yeager accomplished many things
throughout his life that made him the well known Pilot he is today. One of his biggest achievements
that he was credited for was downing five German planes in a single day. Also, becoming the first

He was one of the first Americans to fly the MiG 15. This plane was not made in the United States,
but by the Soviet Union. The gauges of the plane were all metric, so the gauges were unfamiliar to
Yeager. He was able to fly only three missions in the MiG 15.
The MiG 15 was a 33 by 33 foot fighter jet used mostly by the Chinese in the Chinese Civil War. The
aircraft was highly exported by the Soviet Union and was also used in the Korean was as the Chinese
got involved. Although not much research was necessary for the United states was needed to be done
on this het, the Soviets made plenty of upgrades on this craft throughout the years, such as a new more
powerful engine and cannons on it to be used on the future wars to come.
Yeager became the first Air Force pilot to fly a Delta Wing Aircraft. The first Delta Wing Aircraft
flown was the Convair XF 92A. The series of Delta Wing aircrafts got their name from resembling the
Greek letter delta. Their triangular shaped design helped give the pilot many advantages during flight.
The stability of the plane while performing different maneuvers was very strong. The plane didn t
seem to have much trouble increasing its elevation, or didn t have any drag. Although the wings on the
XF 92A were designed very thin, they proved to be stronger than expected and were able to handle

How Did Halloween Influence Early American Culture
When Christianity reached to the Europe, missioners attempted to change the religious practices of the
Celtic people instead of trying to abolish these pagan customs. They wished to introduce ideas which
reflected a Christian worldview. Halloween has since integrated a mixture of traditional practices from
pagan cultures and Christian beliefs. Virtually all present Halloween traditions can be traced to the
ancient Celtic practice of Samhain festival. Although halloween is a holiday of many mystic customs;
each one has a story behind it. The wearing of costumes, and wandering from door to door demanding
treats can be also traced to the Celtic era when it was widely viewed that the souls of the dead were
out and mingle with living. People used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If not placated, they dread that the spirits of dead would ruin their home and destroy their property. As
the centuries wore on, people began dressing like these fearful creatures, performing antics in
exchange for candy. The practice of trick or treat present day is from which the practice of Celtic
tradition evolves. To this day, witches, ghosts, batman, black cat and skeleton figures of are among the
favorite disguises. Halloween symbols, traditions, and practices certainly have had great influences
upon Western culture throughout history. In early American history, Halloween was not celebrated due
to the strong Christian heritage. Initially, it was practiced only in small Irish population, until
thousands of Irish migrated to American soil and brought their tradition with them. Some regard
Halloween as an Irish holiday with history in the Celtic festival. Traditional Halloween symbols we
often see such as witches, fairies, pumpkins, black cats masks, batman, parties and pranks appeared in
United States during the late 1800 s. In 1848, millions of Irish emigrants poured into America as a
result of the potato famine. Originally the

Life of Audie Leon Murphy
Audie L. Murphy Audie Leon Murphy was born on June 20, 1924 near Kingston, Texas, one of twelve
children born to Emmett Berry Murphy and Josie Bell (Killian) Murphy (Simpson, n.d.). The Murphy
family was a group of poor sharecroppers of Irish descent and Audie had to begin working at an early
age to help support his family. Audie attended grade school in Celeste, Texas until the age of twelve,
when his father abandoned the family in 1936. With less than a fifth grade education, Murphy left
school and went to work full time as a farm laborer, hunter, store clerk and gas station attendant to
support his family (Smith, 1960, p. 1). Audie might have lived the rest of his life as a lower income
civilian if the Japanese had not bombed Pearl Harbor. The December 7, 1941 sneak attack on Pearl
Harbor called forth mass enlistment in every branch of the Armed Forces by young Americans; Audie
Murphy was among them. Audie applied to the U.S. Army and in June 1942 was enlisted into the 3rd
Infantry Division 15th Regiment. During the course of World War II, Audie served in seven major
campaigns, was promoted from Private to First Lieutenant, and was received 24 decorations, including
the Medal of Honor, which he earned on January 26, 1945. His actions in earning the Medal of Honor
were by the Secretary of War as ¦indomitable courage and ¦refusal to give an inch of ground (U. S.

be and effective substitute due to the vitamin that would be beneficial to ones health. I have also never

The Industrial Revolution Was An Innovative Period For...
The Industrial Revolution was an innovative period for entrepreneurs and inventors, in which many
monumental technologies were introduced. However, many of those of the factory workers suffered
from the social and economic conditions that resulted from the revolution in the 19th and 20th
centuries. Some social conditions were that working women increasingly took up the workforce in
textile factories as a way to earn money, but they also faced abuse from men and the harsh working
conditions. Furthermore, manufacturers wanted to increase their profits by ensuring that the maximum
amount of work could be done in a day, thus they increased the working shifts. The want to increase

Although most females workers were older than 20, a social condition was strongly indicated that
child labor was very much existent during the 19th and early 20th centuries as a way to provide for
themselves and their families. E. Patricia Tsurumi also provided the genders and ages in the silk
factories, but in Nagano Japan. In Nagano, female workers from ages 15 to 20 took up the majority of
the workforce. Despite the varied numbers of female workers, both Coleman and Tsurumi presented
information that females were mainly employed in textile factories. On the other hand, Harriet Hanson
Robinson provided a closer perspective in a former female factory worker s experience. Robinson, the
female factory worker, wrote about how females in the cotton factory had to endure abusive working
conditions and the reduced wages in Lowell. Robinson held a specific opinion upon the working
conditions as the greatest hardship in the lives of children and that the reduced wages were unfair
social conditions, because she was once a factory girl. A factory girl was considered to be the lowest
among the employments of women; as a result, Robison may have endured much of the hardships and
cruel treatment in the factories at a very young age.
It was a common social condition among many factory workers that they had to withstand the long
hours, such as described in documents 3, 4, and 5. In Okaya, Japan, an average workday was 13 to 14

The History Of Pizza By Matt Lezotte
The History of Pizza By Matt Lezotte
Pepperoni? Sausage? Olive? It seems like everyone likes pizza whether its one way or another. Pizza
has become the most common favorite food among Americans and you can see it s popularity all over
the world. People crave it so much that now you don t need to leave your home to get a slice of pie.
Even in Italy pizza vending machines are starting to appear. Every second about 300 pizza slices are
about to be eaten. The trend has no end in sight and with chains like pizza hut finding ways to reinvent
the pizza people will likely keep buying those delicious slices of joy. But where did pizza begin?
Many know it started in Italy but most just assume it has been around forever. The early ideas of pizza
didn t even come to be since the 1700 s. Pizza started in Naples. Soon immigrants lead to the first
sightings of pizza in America. Then New York wanted to make pizza easy and inexpensive. Chicago
reinvented it so one could eat with a fork and knife. Pizza keeps evolving and growing and it is truly
one of the best inventions ever to exist. But it started as something only a poor man would eat. The
origins of pizza trace back to around the late 1700 s. People ate flat bread with cheese on it and
sometimes a sauce was added. This was mildly popular but often the flatbread would contain fancy
oils and herbs with fine cheese on top. Many higher ranked Italiens would eat flatbread but with oils
and herbs on top to make it taste

Gender, Masculinity, And The Hegemonic View Of Masculinity
Intro
Masc for masc (masculine looking for masculine) and straight acting (not being seen as a stereotype
and being able to be excepted by heterosexual men) are terms used by Gay men to classify the type of
man they are looking for in a partner; actively rejecting and devaluing femininity and upholding the
hegemonic view of masculinity. Therefor I am researching the how do gay and straight Latinos
construct their masculinity? Straight men deem anything feminine as less than, thus gay men are
ousted. This ousting of gay men is a byproduct of heterosexism in which a men only date women and
vice versa, thus gay men are seen as effeminate for the sole reason of dating other men. In an attempt
to reclaim their lost masculinity gay men are rejecting effeminate men in an attempt to be seen as one
of the good gays . The traits of reclaiming what gay Latinos feel is lost is strongly tied to femiphobia,
internalized homophobia, and toxic masculinity. Gay men want to be seen as normal and just one of
the guys at the cost of their fellow gay men s humanity and manhood. They want to be seen as the
good gay which I define as a gay man that wants to be removed from the stereotype and behaves and
present as straight I want to investigate how gay Latinos specifically construct their masculinity and if
they are contracting it based on their straight counterparts. It is important to distinguish how important
masculinity is to Latin men specifically gay Latinos and see if a

  • 2. Bright Lines Identity The novel Bright Lines tells the story of a Muslim family in the heart of New York and their trials and tribulations as they face the assimilation of American culture. Throughout the story, the young characters, Maya, El, and Charu are the most affected by this assimilation because they clash with what their elders think is best. El is a particularly interesting character because he is the most affected by the division of the two cultures he was raised in. The audience often sees El confused about the way he feels about his body while at the same time he is suffering from visions that haunt him. Growing up was very tough for El because he faced many obstacles from her parents being murdered because of the war to her complete inability to connect to anyone on a truly deep level. This, along with the diverse cultural roles in his life, has left his in many predicaments where she struggles with who he is. His identity is something that he longs for but has yet to find. A major aspect of his identity of which he struggles greatly with is his sexuality. Religion in the novel is an influential aspect of El s life and his struggle with his sexuality. The emphasis placed on religion is a very important part of life, especially in India. In the culture presented in the novel, religion, while not presented often, is a huge aspect of life. It is seen dictating every interaction a person has. While El does not show any attachment to a particular religion (despite the time she prays ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Adapted Crisis Response Plan For Hilo Intermediate School Adapted Crisis Response Plan Based on the presented information, the following adapted crisis intervention protocols and plan are suggested for Hilo Intermediate School, and could also be implemented in other schools within the district with adaptation as needed for each individual school s unique needs. Additionally, it should be noted that while these steps are presented in a step format, steps can be skipped or repeated as needed to assist in responding to varying crises, emergencies, and disasters. First, a comprehensive school counseling program would be implemented that provided preventative as well as intervention strategies that could help to prevent a crisis or intervene before a crisis occurred (ASCA, 2012). The school counselor would provide classroom guidance lessons to reach all students that would promote areas such as self esteem, and coping strategies. To protect the elements, the elements would give special powers every 200 years to five children. Those five children that the elements chose, would be taken away from their family at a young age and would be taught everything about the world and more things no one could even imagine. Once the five children learned all that they could, the elements would choose the most powerful one of them all, to be the leader of Hilia and also know as the light element. Pros And Cons Of Labor Landowners and former slaves were often engaged in labor contracts, often these relationships were contentious and needed intervention by the Freedman s Bureau (the contract was created and supported by the federal government written by the Freedman s Bureau.) White planters tried immediately after the war to hire white workers for the field work, but found them not to be good workers. White workers would work one or two days and quit. Fair wages seem to always be argued, white farmers did not want to pay for the work produced by the black farmers. Thus, the Freedman s Bureau had to negotiate labor contracts for those former slaves, both men and women, so that contracts and wages were fair. The Bureau encouraged former major planters to rebuild their plantations and urged freed blacks to return to work for them, kept an eye on contracts between the newly free laborers and planters, and pushed whites and blacks to work together as employers and employees rather than as masters and slaves. Cause And Effect Of Hearing Loss The biggest handicap in the world is negative thinking and that people handicap themselves by concentrating only on the negative instead of the positive, said Heather Whitestone (Premiere SPeakers Bureau). Even though Heather Whitestone was deaf, she showed the world that she was going to have to work hard to achieve success. Many people in the world are affected by hearing loss. About two million people in the United States are completely deaf, while eighteen to twenty one people need hearing impairments (Mango 21). Symptoms of hearing loss may include difficulty understanding words or phrases. Needing to turn the volume up, avoiding social situations, and trouble hearing consonants are also signs of hearing loss (Mayo Clinic Staff). There are many types of hearing loss that can be gained. Congenital deafness is when someone is born being deaf. Three out of every one thousand infants in the United States are born with congenital deafness (Sheen 16). Another type of hearing loss is the conductive deafness. In this case, the outer and middle ears, which send sound waves to the inner ear, are having the hearing problems (11). Lastly, sensorineural hearing loss is when there is damage in the inner ear. The inner ear s job is to convert sound waves to electrical or neutral impulses, so then it can be carried to the brain and be translated (15).
