Quantitative And Qualitative Research Methodology
Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methodology Comparison
Research, as defined by Merriam Webster, is the activity of getting information about a subject
(Research, n.d.). When looking at the research process there are two main approaches for gathering
information; qualitative and quantitative approaches. The qualitative approach focuses on describing
information in a deep thought provoking manner. Adversely, the quantitative approach focuses on
information from a larger number of people and applies statistical techniques to recognize patterns in
the data ( Organizing, n.d.). In the educational setting, principals are the leaders of the school.
Principals need to develop teachers, create a safe and productive work environment, and try to impact
student achievement. Great principals search for new and inventive ways to make their school thrive.
Research provides principals opportunities to better understand problems and changes in the school
setting. Using research based data, principals can help promote student and teacher success in the
educational setting.
Qualitative and Quantitative Research methods The article Involving Young People in Changing Their
School Environment to Make It Safer draws upon qualitative research to explore the process of
involving teachers and students in student action groups. The article draws on the qualitative process
by using semi structured interviews with a small sample of students and staff members (Fletcher,

India And Pakist An Ideal Comparative Pair Essay
In 1947, India and Pakistan became newly independent states, leaving behind British colonial rule.
Due to the shared geographical location, background and culture between these nations, these two
countries have often been compared against each other. However, since earning independence, India
and Pakistan have undergone significantly different political trajectories. This paper will explore
various factors that have impacted the nation building of these countries and understand why India has
been successful in practicing democracy, while Pakistan has been afflicted with military and autocratic
governments. India and Pakistan share cultures and histories yet have stark differences in political
regime type, making an ideal comparative pair for inquiry.
Historical Narrative
Oldenburg describes India and Pakistan as fraternal twins due to their shared levels of extreme poverty
and extreme inequality in 1947. However, the struggle to be free of British rule was distinct which set
a vital precedent for the subsequent regimes of Pakistan and India. The British withdrawal was hasty
due to their realization they could no longer afford to hold on to its over extended empire. One of the
main reasons for the creation of a separate Muslim nation in the Indian subcontinent was due to the
conflicting religious views of Hindus and Muslims. These issues had existed prior to British colonial
rule, however the differences were exacerbated by British policy. Britain as a colonizer, followed

Primary Data Collection Analysis Questionnaire
Chapter 1. Primary data collection analysis questionnaire and interview.
Questionnaire:
As it was already mentioned in research design, one type of primary data used for this research was
questionnaire. Questionnaire consisted of 18 questions and the sample size was 58 respondents.
Fifty five people stated that they are using either eBay, Amazon or both websites for their online
shopping.
Amazon s and Bay s customers are mostly buying home garden furniture 37 respondents, following by
books 34 candidates, collectibles 29 people, electronics 24 respondents. The least selling products on
both websites are fashion goods 17 candidates and beauty products 13 candidates (in this questions

Graph below compares answers about eBay s and Amazon s best and worst features:
When asked what in the opinion of respondents are the advantages of buying goods/services online,
fifty one stated that it convenience, fifty four answered accessibility , forty seven said that it is cheaper
price, following by 38 respondents ticking wider range and 34 comparability .
In contradiction to the above question, 37 candidates stated that the biggest disadvantage of online
shopping are concerns about receiving different product than ordered, 33 respondents are anxious
about not being able to physically touch and see the product before purchasing it, 28 people are
worried about security and privacy issues. Twenty five are not willing to wait for good for long time
and lastly 16 people are concerned about not being able to return the product.
When asked what is the best marketing approach to advertise an online shop, the results were as
showed in the graph below: Regarding the customer service that eBay and Amazon are providing, the
number are not excellent. Fourteen Amazon s customer stated that they are not happy with their
customer service, on the eBay side the negative answers were almost double (27 people). Next

Summary Of The Great Storytellingki-Tikki Tavi
The Great Rikki tikki tavi Bravery has many characters and one mammal has them all. Rikki tikki tavi
fought single handed, through the bathrooms of the big bungalow in Segowlee cantonment. Darzee,
the tailor bird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the muskrat, who never comes out into the middle of the
floor but always creeps round by the wall, gave him advice; but Rikki tikki did the real fighting. He
was a mongoose, rather like a little cat in his fur and his tail but quite like a weasel in his head and his
habits. His eyes and the end of his restless nose were pink; he could scratch himself anywhere he
pleased with any leg, front or back, that he chose to use; he could fluff up his tail till it looked like a
bottle. One day, a high summer flood washed him out of the burrow where he lived with his father and
mother and carried him, kicking and clucking, down a roadside ditch. He found a little wisp of grass
floating there and clung to it till he lost his senses. When he revived, he was lying in the hot sun in the
middle of a garden path, very draggled indeed, and a small boy was saying: Here s a dead mongoose.
Let s have a funeral. No, said his mother; let s take him in and dry him. Perhaps he isn t really dead.
(Kipling 143) The book by Rudyard Kipling and the movie Rikki tikki tavi is about a mongoose
named Rikki tikki tavi. This mammal is one of the great fighters of the dreaded cobras, and in this
story, the Rulers of the garden. The book

Over the years, the use of technology has improved drastically, it plays a major role in our lives.

Monkey D. Luffy Character Traits
Episode 1: I m Luffy! The Man Who Will Become The Pirate King!
Monkey D. Luffy starts his journey of becoming the King of the Pirates. He meets Coby and saves
him from Alvida (a pirate in the East Blue).
In this episode, the characters that are presented showed atypical gendered behaviors and traits. For
example, Alvida is a girl and she is the captain of her ship. Furthermore, she is depicted as a character
who is strong and fear by both her crew and civilians. Furthermore, when the main character Monkey
D. Luffy, fought with her, he fought with all his strength. In other words, he fought her as he would a
male character.
The appearance of Luffy and Alvida are also atypical of how females and main males are depicted on
TV. For example, leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hammer and he had on a metal mask that covers his mouth and chin. The emotion of Morgan s team

scary of him to say anything. I feel that the emotion of being scary of a person who could hurt you
was portray well in this episode and is reflective of real life. For example, there was a scene where
Morgan declared that he was the best leader there is and his team look visibly scary and didn t agree
with it. However, due to fear of being chop up, none of them went against the idea and just did what
they were told by Morgan.
The way that Luffy moves and his logic is not realistic because he is made out of rubber and he has no
fear. For example, there was a scene where Luffy was shot by a bunch of bullets and he was
completely fine. They characters in this series do bleed when they are hurt and they do show marking

Analysis Of Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes
Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes is a story that was written by Chris Crutcher. This book was narrated in
first person, by the protagonist Eric Moby Calhoune. His best friend is Sarah Byrnes, and they have
been close since they were younger, due to their flaws. Eric is overweight and Sarah has burn scars
covering her entire face. As the two grew older, Eric lost his weight when he joined the school
competitive swim team. Meanwhile, Sarah Byrnes still remained as what her classmates called ugly .
The two were each other s best friends, and Eric even stayed fat for a whole year for her. Sarah Byrnes
believed that if Eric became skinny, then he would have more friends, and eventually forget about her.
With the help of others, it is found that Sarah Byrnes was abused by her father, Virgil Byrnes, when
she was three, causing the burns on her face. She has been kept in the hospital for thinking about
committing suicide for the entirety of the story. Sarah is not talking to anybody, even her best friend,
and Eric knows he has to find a way to make her speak. Eric Calhoune, both the protagonist and
narrator, is an important character of the text. It is fascinating how he is such a devoted friend to
Sarah, and wants to do whatevers best for her, even if it is not beneficial for him. Over the course of
the novel, Eric evolved into a more forgiving character. This is accomplished when he goes to
someone who used to bully him, Dale Thornton, for help on how to get Sarah Byrnes to

The Pros And Cons Of Skepticism
The most basic claim of skepticism, it seems to me, usually involves a version of the classic Cartesian
Evil Demon Scenario (EDS). I believe that EDS should be redefined before we start an extensive
discussion thereof: EDS is generally a scenario, involving an attitude towards the reality we live in (it
includes both an ontological and epistemic shift in our thinking), involving questioning the basic
assumption that what we perceive in that reality is not (directly) caused by the objects (phenomena et
cetera), but is caused by an indirect entity (such as an Evil Demon or an Evil Scientist simulating the
experience you seem to have). Even though this is the principle skepticism is based on, to me, it is
also its weakest point. In this paper, I will, first, try to reconstruct some of the common skeptic
approaches and then attempt to show how skeptic arguments and scenarios can be dissolved (not
refuted, since trying to refute a skeptic argument causes one to fall into the same trap as the skeptic
does).
The foremost example of an EDS was presented by Descartes in his Meditation I. It proceeds in
phases, which I will not talk in detail, but summarize in a concise way: Descartes first observes the
objects, phenomena around him; then he concedes that he cannot tell the difference between waking
and dreaming, that he had the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These arguments follow premises that cannot be testified by observable data, neither do they provide
any analytical, a priori arguments, which can be deduced from other a priori propositions. Even
though I reject an epistemic discussion which involves any sort of EDS, from a meta epistemological
perspective, this paper summarizes my beliefs pretty well and I also believe that those who find
themselves in a situation where they have to argue against these types of arguments can benefit from
some of the thoughts I laid out in this

Analysis Of The Book The Necklace
The necklace She removed the wraps which covered her shoulders before the glass, so as once more to
see herself in all her glory. But suddenly she uttered a cry. She no longer had the necklace around her
neck! Her husband, already half undressed, demanded: What is the matter with you? She turned madly
toward him: I have I have I ve lost Mme. Forestier s necklace. He stood up, distracted. What! how?
impossible! And they looked in the folds of her dress, in the folds of her cloak, in her pockets,
everywhere. They did not find it. After a sleepless night, her husband decided to tell Mme. Forestier
the truth. But She did not agree with him. She is a vain person, and she worried that when Mme.
Forestier know it will spread everywhere. She did not want anybody know that the glory of her
success in the ball was not belong to her. Then they went from jeweler to jeweler with the box which
had contained the necklace, trying to find if there is any possible they can find a necklace which look
like the same as the one they lost. They have searched every jeweler in the whole city after three days.
Unfortunately, there was no any necklace looks like the one they lost. In the three days, her husband
always tried to persuade her to tell the truth to Mme. Forestier. However, she felt very desprate, and
she began to think about her husband s advice. You have to write to your friend, said her husband, that

My Reflection Of A Trip To The Courtroom
I went to the Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse on Friday August 25, 2017. Before the visit, I expected the
courthouse to look like the courthouses I have visited in New York or Atlanta. Inside the courtroom
was different than expected and the rooms were smaller, but I think that is because it was only a
docket. I have never sit in on a docket case, but I assumed the courtroom etiquette would be the same
as all other cases. I expected there to be silence in the gallery, with some hushed whispers if
conversation was necessary. In the case that I watched, other lawyers were having full conversations
in the first row of the gallery, right behind the prosecutor. I also expected the prosecutor and defense
to address the judge and question the witness from the same general area, but the prosecutor spoke
from a podium closer to the judge while the defense spoke from a podium right next to his desk. The
docket case that I watched was about felony menacing. I was unsure what felony menacing was prior
to visiting court that day, but as the case progressed the definition became a little bit clearer. The key
players in the case were the judge, prosecutor, defense and defendant, and the key witness was the
arresting officer. The defendant was arrested because the police received a call about a driver on the
road waving his gun around threatening other drivers. One of the officers responding to the call stayed
with the victim, while the other went to look for the car described in the call. Following a hint, the
arresting officer found the car in a parking lot and pulled in behind it. Upon seeing the officer exit his
car, the defendant walked out of a business with his hands in the air, saying I didn t do it. The officer
had the defendant walk toward him with his hands still in the air; when the defendant was close
enough, the officer handcuffed him. After the defendant was handcuffed through questioning the
officer determined that the defendant had weapons in the car and had an altercation with the victim
that his partner was with. The defense made a motion to suppress some of the defendant s statements
because he believed they were made during an unlawful interrogation. The defense believed that
because the

Barbie Essays
Barbie Since the beginning of time, toys have often been an indicator of the way a society behaves,
and how they interact with their children. For example, in ancient Greece, artifacts recovered there
testify that children were simply not given toys to play with as in the modern world. The cruel ritual of
leaving a sick child on a hillside for dead, seems to indicate a lack of attention to the young (Lord 16).
The same is true of today s society. As you can see with the number of toy stores in our society, we
find toys of great value to our lives and enjoy giving them to children as gifts. Ask just about any
young girl what she wants for Christmas and you ll undoubtedly get the same answer: A Barbie. But
what exactly has caused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, the Barbie doll was so popular that three years after her release in 1959 Mattel was still filling
orders from her first year (Long 17).
It wasn t until the late 1960 s that critics began comparing Barbie to a Playboy Bunny and calling her
a corrupter of youth ( Bad Girl 3). One woman commented, She s an absurd representation of what a
woman should be ( Bad Girl 3) and that s exactly what many others thought she was, too. With such
impossible real life measurements of 5 9 tall, 36 18 33 bust, waist, and hip (Benstock and Ferriss 35),
it s easy to see why mothers across the country banned the doll from their homes and refused to let
their impressionable young daughters be influenced by a piece of painted plastic (Bestock and Ferriss
35). Since dolls have often been responsible for teaching children what society deems important or
beautiful, many concerned parents wondered why Mattel did not design a doll that taught more
valuable lessons than dressing pretty and being dangerously skinny (Edut 19)? Who said a runway
model was best suited for teaching a child what is beautiful anyway? According to a Mattel
spokesperson, a Kate Moss figure is better suited for today s fashions (Edut 19), and that is one reason
why Barbie must be so disproportional. Actually, another reason for Barbie s anorexic figure can be
traced back long before Kate Moss and the fashion runway. Barbie was

Cyber Security And Social Engineering
Introduction
Background Information
Of all the things that we ve learned in this course, one of the weakest aspects of cyber security is
social engineering. Social engineering is a way for people to manipulate others into breaking normal
security procedures, by relying heavily on human interaction. An organization could have the most
state of the art cyber protection software and the strictest policies, but all of that can be broken down
from human error, negligence, or malice. Cyber criminals can exploit personal information from
someone easier than hacking a system for the same information. We tend to give out personal
information without thinking of the possible consequences. Security is about trust because we trust our

Raphael
Raphael, and The Stanza Della Segnatura
Raphael Sanzio was one of the most important artists of the Italian Renaissance. Raphael painted and
designed many brilliant pieces of work and the stanzas inside the Vatican. He was a master at such
necessities of modern art such as depth and perspective and the use of light and shadow, and was the
turning point styles of paintings like the use of Madonnas in paintings. Through his short life, Raphael
would make some of the most awe inspiring, beautiful, and influential works of art during the Italian
Renaissance.
Raphael whose full name was Raphael Sanzio, (also known as Raphael Sanzi), was born on April 6th,
1483. He was born in the town of Urbino, Italy, where he would spend his childhood ... Show more

Madonna of the Goldfinch was made in 1506, and does show a very human Mary. In Italian, Madonna
of the Goldfinch is Madonna del Cardellino. In that painting, Mary is shown holding St. John, and St.
John is holding a tiny bird for Jesus Christ, whom is an infant in that painting. Leonardo s painting,
The Virgin of the Rocks, probably influences Madonna of the Goldfinch for the faces and figures are
very similar. In Madonna of the Goldfinch and a few other paintings Raphael made, he experimented
with Leonardo s immense use of shade, but would always return to the lighter tones that Perugino had
taught him.
In 1508, at the age of 24, Pope Julius II invited Raphael to the Vatican. Raphael was summoned to the
Vatican to paint things like stanzas, and was probably recommended to the pope by Domato Bramante,
an architect. He was immediately well liked by the pope and everyone else at the Vatican due to his
personality; Raphael was a nice, gentle, and sensitive individual. As Giorgio Vasari once said about
Raphael, Raphael was so gentle and so charitable that even animals loved him, not to speak of men.
(Ruskin, p. 132)
In order for Raphael to paint stanzas Pope Julius II ordered some old frescoes to be washed away from
the Vatican walls. Although he made many stanzas, he only painted one stanza: the Stanza Della
Segnatura. In the other stanzas that

Justification Of John Stuart Mill
Let s create an alternative world, one without liberty, and popular social customs must be followed. If
one deviates from these norms, society will ostracize the person until that person conforms to the
popular beliefs and values. John Stuart Mill starts off with an argument questioning to what extent the
nature and limits of the power which can legitimately [exercise] by society over the individual (Mill,
n.d., p. Chapter 1). So what if, the nature and limits of power of society know no bounds? This will
lead us to the alternative world where liberty and conformity will be social norms. So then Mill goes
on and argues that If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the
contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had
the power, would be justified in silencing mankind (Mill, n.d., p. Chapter 2). Mill is proposing new
ideas in which there are limits and justification of using that power to silencing the individual but
overall believe in the freedom of expression. John Stuart Mill is correct that mankind should not be
justifiable in using their power to silence the individual and frankly, they have no right to, if they do
silence the individual, they silence development of humanity. This is due to the harm principle,
silencing of ideas, individuality, and limits of authority.
First off, the harm principle introduced by Mill explains why all mankind minus one is unjustifiable to

The Greasy Lake And Life After High School
In both Greasy Lake and Life After High School the protagonists are both subjected to external
conflict that forever changes their course in life. With so much emphasis on the differences between
individuals these days, it is imperative that people recognize this powerful commonality between the
spectrum of humanity. Two completely different people living completely different lives are somehow
still directly linked through the intrinsic nature of life. Even though the narrator from Greasy Lake ,
Joe as he will be called from simplicity sake and Sunny from Life After High School are separated by
gender and culture, both share the commonality of a metamorphosis as the direct result of an external
conflict. Regardless of the shape or appearance of this metamorphosis, I purpose that both Joe and
Sunny are of the same element that only differ in structure and appearance due to the differences in
both the stimuli and base parameters in their life.
In this case, Sunny and joe s base parameters or starting points differ quite a bit. Joe is a greaser
working on meeting the criteria and trying to live up to the name. He had the look and behavior down
pat, wearing torn up leather jackets, and striking elaborate poses to show people he doesn t give a
damn. Yet, he is still largely an innocent adolescent just trying to find his way in the world. Sunny on
the other hand was a cheerleader and the light that her name implies. When the quarterback Chuck

The War Of Camp Lewis
Prepare for war! That is what you hear and your heart stops while your jaw opens and you gasp for air
that is not there. While the history and establishment of Camp Lewis is not as important as preparing
for war, it is important to know the past in order to help posture and mold the future of tomorrow. The
idea for Camp Lewis was fought for by the civilian populace of Pierce County in Washington State.
Late in1916, as war continued to escalate in Europe, a private group of concerned citizens gathered at
American Lake to organize a training program designed for civilian personnel. The program was
designed to encourage readiness among the community in preparation for the possibility of going to
war in Europe. One of the attending civilians was a cadet named Stephen Appleby. Mr. Appleby (a
former Captain in the Minnesota National Guard) was vice president of the Northwest Business Men s
Preparedness League and a bank cashier for Tacoma Washington. He was informed that the Army was
sending out a survey team to the Northwest in search of establishing an Army Post. Mr. Appleby
contacted the commander of the survey team and asked him to make a site visit of the camp that the
community had established as possibility of use for the Army. Captain Richard Parks (Army survey
team commander) visited Pierce County as requested and found it to be impressive. Major General J.

Benefits Of Absentee Voting
Absentee Ballot Absentee ballots became big in the 2016 presidential election. There were nearly
78,000 returning ballots for the state of South Carolina in the Republican and Democratic parties.
These numbers were double the numbers of the 2008 elections, which was also marked as a record
high turnout. Absentee ballots are used by an immense number of Americans in our society today. The
absentee ballot process is quick and easy and benefits everyone who is eligible for the ballot.
Continuing this, an absentee ballot, as said in class, is a ballot that is mailed to voters who are unable
to attend the polls. The absentee ballot process gives people who are unable to present themselves at
the polls a chance to express their feelings by voting on which candidate they may pursue in. Voters
may be eligible for an absentee ballot if they are going out of the state on say a vacation, if they are
disabled and cannot attend the polls, if they are of age, ect... The absentee ballot process wants to
make it possible for people unable to attend the polls, to vote. On the ballot the voters will pick which
candidate that they feel is fit for the job and then they will send the ballot back in. Everyone who is
eligible for the absentee ballot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Granite people have to qualify for the ballot, but if they do qualify, I believe it s the best way to go. All
the people have to do is check out the boxes and then send the ballot back in. No one has to even leave
their house to vote in an election if they are voting by absentee ballot. For example, if someone is
seventy eight years of age and in a wheel chair they may apply for absentee ballot. The person in the
wheel chair cannot drive himself to the polls and vote that way, but he can use an absentee ballot and
vote from his house. This is a prime example of why I believe that the absentee ballot is a brilliant
way for people who are unable to attend the polls, to

Ipads in the Primary Classroom
The introduction of the iPad/Tablet in Schools In 2010, apple introduced it s newest technology, the
iPad, which promised to bring mobile technology into every home and classroom. With the
introduction of the iPad comes new considerations for learning and pedagogy. (Sheppard, 2011)
McKenna (2012) suggests that the internet is as common a school fixture as lockers and library books.
Additionally schoolwork is one of the most common activities performed online. One of the
motivators for schools to adopt iPads was the ability to use interactive textbooks. The portability of
the iPad made it not only easier to carry than several text books, but easier to use. The other motivator
to iPads and digital textbooks is that the interactive features and capabilities. Digital textbooks can be
updated to contain the most current information.
Pedagogical shift VS. Technology Implementation An appropriate pedagogical framework is
necessary to incorporate iPads into the classroom (McKenna, 3, 2012) It is important that educators
are aware of the difference between technology integration which involves new literacies and
curriculum integration. Newman (2013) notes (as cited in Hutchinson, Beschorner, Schmidt Crawford,
2012) that research indicates that much of the technology used in literacy classroom is in the form of
technology integration as opposed to curriculum integration.

Social Entrepreneurship
Assess the importance of social entrepreneurship in the local context. 1.0 Definition of Social
Entrepreneurship A social entrepreneur identifies and solves social problems on a large scale. Just as
business entrepreneurs create and transform whole industries, social entrepreneurs act as the change
agents for society, seizing opportunities others miss in order to improve systems, invent and
disseminate new approaches and advance sustainable solutions that create social value. Unlike
traditional business entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs primarily seek to generate social value rather
than profits. And unlike the majority of non profit organizations, their work is targeted not only
towards immediate, small scale effects, but sweeping, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
4.0Fundings As the programs and projects of NGOs expand, the need for money to run their
operations becomes all the more critical. NGOs have remained highly dependent on donor and
external organizations such as UNDP, WHO, etc in addition to some fundraising efforts from the
private sector and general public. Funding for the majority of NGOs remains limited, as only a few
have access to government grants. Financial weakness The majority of NGOs are not membership
based, hence the opportunity to sustain core funding from membership contributions is lost to many.
Other sources for sustainable financing are not yet fully explored, for example, long term partnership
with private sector (beyond fundraising), engagement in economic activities and social mobilization at
community level. Competition for limited funding creates a negative environment for networking
among NGOs, which in turn leads to duplication and loss of opportunities to pool knowledge,
experiences and resources to a common cause 5.0 How local NGOs can become entrepreneurial and
raise finance A success story of how NGOs can become entrepreneurial and raise its own finance and
at the same time help the community would be the example of the Big Issue magazine in London. The
Big Issue is a business. But it is a different kind of business, a social business, which provides a
business solution to a social problem . Although The Big Issue work as a business, their aim is not to

Taking a Look at Nike Inc.
Brief Overview Nike, Inc. is a multinational corporation that designs, develops, markets, and sells
athletic footwear, apparel, equipment, and accessories for a variety of sports and fitness activities. In
1964, it started its empire as a company that distributed Japanese running shoes, Tiger, in the United
States with the name Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964. Nike founders Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight had
a great coach student relationship when both were still at University of Oregon; Bowerman was
Knight s coach seeking a better running shoe and Knight loved athletics so much that he could not live
without it. This friendship led to the existence of Blue Ribbon Sports. After the success of selling
Tiger shoes, the company renamed itself Nike in 1971. Nike is actually the name of the winged Greek
goddess of victory and the SWOOSH logo represents her wing. Carolyn Davidson, who was Knight s
student at Portland State University, designed and trademarked the logo in 1971. They introduced the
Just Do It slogan in 1988 and that immediately boosted Nike into a sports supplier powerhouse. It
surged the market share from 18% to 43% in 1988. The slogan inspires consumers to push beyond
limits and strive to achieve new goals. Nike has become the number one sporting brand in the world,
netting in revenue of $25.3 billion in 2013. Nike, Inc. wholly owns the following seven footwear and
apparel companies that specialize in different sports: Nike Brand, Cole Haan, Converse, Hurley

Theories Of The Beltway Sniper
Abstract
This paper will try to explore two theories of the beltway sniper. The first is the conflict theory and the
second is the psychological theory. There will be summarizing of the crime (dates, offenders, how
they were caught if they were). The two theories will try to explore the crime. Each of the theory will
shed light on the reasons for the crime. For this paper, I will provide evidence to which theory seems
to be stronger. I will also show any evidence that will lead to the deviant path that was taken. I will be
explaining how you determine the path that was taken for the crime. I hope that after reading this the
audience will have a better understanding of the conflict and psychological theory of the beltway DC

Development Of A Nation s Development
By definition development means the act or process of developing; growth; or progression . The world
s nation states are commonly categorized based on their state of development; nations who have
reached the end state, that being developed, are colloquially termed as developed nations or first world
nations . In contrast, nations working towards this end state are referred to as developing nations or
third world nations . However obvious or apparent these designations may seem, the constituents
affecting the status of a respective nation s development is quite convoluted. What qualifications do
developed nations hold over developing nations; what does it mean exactly to be developed or
developing. The process of development is dynamic, and so is the system by which nations received
their designation. A series of indicators, institutions and measures are used to assess the state of a
nation s development; historically, these indicators have varied throughout time and space.
Development theory has been largely presupposed to the fact that the only institutions of importance
were those directly expediting market activity. Directly following World War II, the health of a nation
was predominately based off its gross domestic product (GDP). This view of the market as the magic
bullet dominated the social construct of development; however, this paradigm began to shift come the
late 1980s/early 1990s. This archaic way of thinking has now expanded to explore new theories of

Hindu Temple Research Paper
When I first pulled up to the Won Buddhist Temple, it was sort of what I had expected. Being that the
original Buddha was a human, I did not expect an elaborate building, such as the Hindu temple. I did
not have a clear picture in my mind about what the temple would look like, but I did picture a smaller
and simpler looking building. One of the most pleasantly surprising aspects I noticed at the beginning
of the visit was how those at the temple were of all different ages, races, and genders. Seeing this
made me more excited for the service because it showed that the teachings were something that
appealed to a wide range of people. Similar to the Hindu temple visit, I was nervous and hesitant at
first because I was afraid to offend someone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I like to think of myself as someone who is comfortable with silence, but usually only under
circumstances in which I am actively doing something. Therefore, I was nervous just thinking about
the fact that I would have to sit still for an extended period of time and silently meditate. During the
25 minutes of silent meditation I experienced different feelings. At the beginning, I will admit that I
was thinking about how much longer I had left and wondering how I was going to be able to sit there
the whole time. Towards the middle of the mediation, I did begin to relax and let my mind wander, but
I will be honest and say that the counting amount of time we had been sitting there was still in the
back of my mind. When the bell rang to end the quiet time, I felt a sense of calm, but I think I was
mostly relieved that it was over. I think that meditation definitely takes practice, and from this
experience, it is something that I would consider giving another try. I am a person that stresses a lot
about even the most trivial issues, so I believe that mediation would be a good outlet for me to spend
some time each day and just relax and try not think too much. I think that, especially for thy worrier
type person that I am, this will be easier said than done, but my experience at the temple inspired me

Southern Culture And The Circumstances Of The War
Southern culture and the circumstances of the war fostered an environment where military officials
who could distinguish themselves, especially those with values that most coincided with the ideal
southern man, were set up to become the mythologized figures that would eventually become central
to southern history. Jackson and Lee, through their own skill sets and actions during the war, solidified
their respective legacies as a martyr and a leader. In 1861, Jackson was promoted as brigadier general
in the Army of Northern Virginia, where he began to distinguish himself in the following battles. He
gained Lee s trust and as a result, held a fair amount of control over command (Fredriksen). Jackson
gained most of his fame during the Shenandoah Valley Campaign of 1862, where he employed his
signature tactic of hard, forced marches that attempted to outwit the Union ( Robert E. Lee ). Jackson s
strategy was to Always mystify, mislead, and surprise the enemy, if possible ( Stonewall Jackson ). He
believed that despite having smaller numbers, the Confederacy could defeat the Union in battle if they
act aggressive and communicate well ( Shenandoah Valley Campaign ). These tactics promoted him as
the most well regarded military general during the war. In the eyes of many southerners, he was their
best hope of succeeding in battle, and his death at Chancellorsville in 1863 deeply hurt the morale of
the Confederacy (Fredriksen). Lee, who was initially offered control of the Union

Use Of Biodiesel Over Petroleum Diesel
1.0 Thesis:
The use of biodiesel over petroleum diesel can be proven be easier to make, more energy efficient and
a greener way to run you vehicle.
2.1 Argument 1: Process
The use of biodiesel over the more common petroleum diesel has become a more frequent sight as
people strive for an easier and more environmental beneficial way to run their vehicle with only small
modifications needed. Unlike diesel which uses crude oil, biodiesel is made by converting oils such as
waste vegetable oils to bio diesel.
Diagram 1: Waste oil
As can be seen in the comparison matrix like conventional petrol, biodiesel is also made up of long
chains of hydrogen and carbon atoms, though as can be seen in diagram 1 the oils used to create
biodiesel are slightly different in having three chains of these fatty acids being connected by a
backbone of glycerine. To be able to use these oils for fuel the glycerine backbone has to be removed,
which is done through a process called transesterification. Equation 1: transesterification process
The transesterification process uses alcohols such as methanol which is seen in equation 1 to break the
bonds between the fatty acid chains and the glycerol backbone. Once the glycerol bonds have been
broken away from the fatty acid chain, they are then replaced by methoxy groups from the methanol
used in the process. According to (The Cemistry of Biodiesel, 2014) this process is best done at a
temperature of around 50°C for a complete

Rural Tourism And Urban Tourism
For some time, rural areas have seen a marked decrease in economic potential as a result of the
urbanization of most areas in the United States. Unlike many of the more populated areas, rural areas
are home to small communities that exist over a vast amount of land. Farmers, cattle herders and the
like often suffer from a lack of economic certainty whereas their profits hinge on the conditions
around them. It has become increasingly necessary to implement new methods of revitalizing the
economies of rural areas in order to create a more equally profitable nation. There are many historical
landmarks, key events and persons of interest all over the United States and that appeal only
appreciates over time. Many rural areas are beginning to capitalize on the industry that seems to bring
the most unbridle profit, tourism. Rural tourism is inclusive of many experiences that take place in a
rural setting from eco tourism to ethno tourism. There are many misconceptions that exist about the
benefits of rural tourism and the criticisms most often point towards the disruption of the existing
community. Yet the implementation of a successful rural tourism industry has proved beneficial
according to several studies conducted in the U.S. For instance, according to the Economic Research
Service Rural tourism and recreational development results in lower local poverty rates and
improvements in other social conditions, such as local educational attainment and health (measured by

Reflection About Relationships
In the two years we have been together, my boyfriend, Andy, and I never talked about what we
considered cheating to be. This past July, I found out that he had spent the night in his car with one of
my closests friends, and his ex girlfriend. I had told him in the past that I was not comfortable with
him being out with a girl late at night, but never fully elaborated on it. Realizing that he had done
something I wasn t comfortable with, he told me he was up late playing Halo, and kept his outing from
me for almost a month. Since we had never laid our boundaries, there were no boundaries to break.
Personally, I view cheating as doing something you would not tell your significant other about, but he
sees it as having intimate relations with someone other than your significant other. He saw it as him
doing something wrong and apologized for it, but felt that it was nowhere near cheating. Our
disagreement stems from the differences between our beliefs and expectations for each other.
In our relationship, my boyfriend had never done anything for me to lack a sense of trust. He let me
know where he was, even when I did not want to know, and always tried his best to keep in contact
with me. When it came to me spending time with the opposite sex, he was always comfortable with
the idea which is why he thought I felt the same. He had complete trust in me and never minded the
time or the place. Growing up, his father had an intimate relationship with another woman, so to him,

Similarities Between The American Revolution And The...
The Glorious Revolution and The American Revolution had similarities. Each ended with practically
the same thing as each other. They both are just in different times and with different people. The
Glorious Revolution, also known as the 1688 Revolution, basically put an end to King James II and it
started to put a start to religious freedom. King James was a Catholic. He wanted everyone to worship
that religion. In 1687 James created a declaration of indulgence. It suspended the penal laws against
dissenters and recusants against his religion. In April 1688, he made another declaration of indulgence,
saying that every sunday everyone must come to the church and worship his religion. There were

Lyncherdom Stereotypes
In the United States a problem of mass stereotyping has been on the rise, especially with the young

Why We Should Eat Pork
It seems clear that, there are various different reasons why we consume pork and many people would
feel that all these reasons are enough to justify and explain its consumption. This could be down to the
nutritional value of the meat, the idea that if we didn t eat pigs then they wouldn t exist in the first
place and the philosophical views on the consumption of meat in the first place. However, my research
has also shown that there are many reasons why people feel we should not eat pork. The next section
of my essay will look into the arguments against the consumptions of pork and the reasons for this
view.

The researchers also found that it s possible to train pigs and teach them different talents, such as
jumping hoops, bowing and playing video games as well as being able to learn routines quickly. Many
other scientists have also shown that pigs are highly intelligent, for example , We have shown that pigs
share a number of cognitive capacities with other highly intelligent species such as dogs,
chimpanzees, elephants, dolphins, and even humans, said neuroscientist Lori Marino of Emory
University . It was also discovered that pigs can understand basic symbolic language and learn
multiple signs for actions as well as placing coloured pig shaped blocks in the correct coloured holes
on a wooden board. They found that the pig can do this using its mouth and on its own. The Discovery
News has also reported that, pigs have complex social networks, with them often learning from one
another and cooperating together.
Lastly, researchers in the Netherlands carried out an experiment to understand the behaviours of pigs

Saving Lives in Traveling through the Dark by William...
Saving Lives
The most wonderful thing in the world is being able to save the life of another. Some people have this
chance and some people do not. The people that have not had the chance might have never been in a
situation to save a person s or thing s life. Some people might have been in a situation to have saved
someone or something and not chosen to act on it. The situation can be unnoticeable and you would
have to think about it and observe the details. The poem Traveling through the Dark by William

of many people. Traveling through the dark I found a deer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

dangerous the situation was. The speaker decided to drag the doe into the river so no one would

brought me the reason her side was warm; her fawn lay there waiting, alive, never to be born. Beside
that mountain road I hesitated (Stafford 8 12). Once the speaker touched the belly of the doe he
realized that she was pregnant. The side of the doe was still warm so that meant her fawn was still
alive. The speaker then had to think about throwing the doe into the river, because he did not want to
kill her fawn. I thought hard for us all my only swerving , then pushed her over the edge into the river
(Strafford 17 18). The speaker tried to think of another way to keep the deer out of the road and save
her fawn but he could not figure out a better way for everyone. As the thoughts ran through his mind,
he pushed the doe into the river. The speaker decided to sacrifice the doe s fawn in order to save more
peoples lives.

a certain group; he is speaking to all mankind. The speaker is in a situation where he has to make a

Parenting As A Blended Family
Parenting in A Blended Family The family dynamics in Max Apple s Stepdaughters and Amy Tan s A
Pair of Tickets displays some of the issues that parents, stepparents and teenagers may or may not
experience. A mother s relationship with her children has a very unique connection, especially when it
comes our daughters. Being a mother or stepmother is a problematical and rewarding experience:
nevertheless, a mother s love is unconditional. How do you except someone for his or her choices on
being different? Is it easier for a step parent to see things more clearly that the biological parent?
Every family has its issues. When it s a blended family with mothers, fathers, stepchildren and other
family member, those issues can become more complex to understand. There are so many aspects that
make the core of a family. For example, from different lifestyles, religion, to positive and negative
reinforcement from our parents to raising respectable teenagers. There are differences in attitudes from
teenagers with biological parents and stepparents. With biological parents the relationship may have
some problems, but nothing can compare to what a stepparent has to endure and try to overcome these
obstacles if it possible. In Amy Tan s A Joy Luck Club, Jing mei feels the pressure of having to fill her

In Maryland, public assistance programs as well as housing programs are able to deny assistance to
individuals with incarceration histories or convictions on their records. The Corporation for
Supportive Housing estimates that 10 to 12 percent of former inmates are homeless. Other studies put
the count at between 15 and 27 percent (Law). With such a large percentage of inmates being released
to the streets, it is no wonder that rates of recidivism are so high.
Marylanders need to push for the Second Chance Act to apply to housing, and not solely to
employment opportunities.

Gold Standard Pros And Cons Essay
Gold standard means tying the value of the dollar to the price of gold. Gold standard provides some
significant pros for the economics. Firstly, the amount of gold that a country owns limits the amount
of paper money it can print. Therefore, the limited supply of money might prevent inflation. Under the
gold standard, it is difficult to inflate prices by excess issuance of paper currency. In addition, the gold
standard helps to keep prices stable and dollar fixed in terms of gold also has the property of stability.
More specific, the gold standard limits the rate of money which could constrain the government s
ability to abuse the money. Transitioning back to the gold standard dose not only provide the
significant benefits for the economics, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In present, the U.S. gross domestic product is about $15 trillion, while the gold owned by the
government is about $405 billion dollars. This gold can t support the $15 trillion economy. What s
more, the supply and demand of gold is also a problem. When the demand of gold goes up, it will
encourage people to search for more gold, and that will devalue the existing money and waste the
resources. Also, when there is a shortage of the supply of gold, people will worry that their bank
couldn t exchange paper money to gold. That would be a terrible effect to the economy. Great
Depression is an example shows that the gold standard could put more people out of work and cause
instability to economy. Gold standard was a reason that caused the deflation and unemployment
during the Great Depression. According to Mark Thoma, an economics professor at the University of
Oregon, he stated on the New York Times that A gold standard would mean that monetary policy
could no longer be used to stabilize the economy. (Thoma, 2011). And James D. Hamilton, a professor
of economics at the University of California, San Diego, also supported that Recovery from the Great
Depression typically began only after the country abandoned the gold standard, which led to wage and
price deflation. (Hamilton,

Impact Of Physical Geography
Impact of Physical Geography and Development: Physical geography plays a significant part in the
development and success of different people and countries. A country s location can greatly affect how
that country does economically. For example, country s near water typically do better economically
than landlocked because water unlocks more trade opportunities. However, some landlocked countries
can still do well because of it s neighboring countries that may be located near water. Another example
is the type of environment you re located in. People in countries with a more agricultural based
environment will live very differently than a country surrounded by desert that may focus on oil or
minerals. Yet, some countries, like the U.S, are so big that they have many different climates,
ecosystems, and environments; allowing for many different types of ways to make money, trade, and
live. A countires location can also affect how people live. Anything from climate to where the country
is located compared to the equator can completely determine how someone lives. A place with a rainy
climate that may rely on industry will be completely different that one with a more mild climate that
relies on agriculture. A countires location from the equator will also drastically affect how people live.
A country like Brazil that is right next to the equator will focus their industries on different things than
a country like Russia, who is far away from the equator, will rely on different types of industries. A
country s location can also determine how it is affected by natural disasters. For example, Thailand has
a risk of tsunamis, California is greatly affected by earthquakes, and places like Hawaii are affected by
volcanos. All of those things can affect a country s economy and development.
Core Periphery Model or World Systems Theory: In The Power of Place Harm De Blij divides the
world into two parts; the core and periphery. Core countries are often successful economically, have a
dominant military, and have overall better health. Periphery countries are often poor, don t have much
power, have more diseases and overall worse health, and low standards of living. Global cores are
places like the U.S.A, China,

Edgar Degas helped to found and develop the Impressionist...
Edgar Degas helped to found and develop the Impressionist group of artist and their exhibitions.
Though he helped to develop the group of Impressionist, he did not consider himself one; he referred
to himself as a Realist or an independent artist. Degas preferred to paint scenes that were indoors and
lit by artificial light rather than outdoor naturally light scenes. He used many different medium when
making his art such as oil paints, bronze sculptures, engravings, photos, and sketches with pencil and
pastels. Degas began his study of art by copying Italian Renaissance paintings that he saw in the
Louvre. In 1850s, a tip that he took to Italy influenced him where he was many paintings and frescos
that he did many sketches of. Degas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were both influenced by the world that was around them; they often used theatrical dancers and
prostitutes for inspiration and subjects. Like Degas, Toulouse Lautrec was also strongly influenced by
Japanese prints; he used the layout and formatting of the ukiyo e prints in his own prints. Toulouse
Lautrec mimicked many of the lines and areas of flat color of ukiyo e prints in his prints (3). Degas
did not focus on having solid lines; he would use many shorter lines to created contours that have
more depth to them rather than continual flowing lines. His lines alone are not important, what is
important is the shading that adds the dimension and tonal value to a piece. He is less interested in the
contours and more interested in the way that the shadows create a more three dimensional space. His
interest in shadows is seen in his use of pastels where the contours become the colored shading. When
creating a composition Degas does not use classical centralized contained compositions, he often has
partial figures that are cut off by the edge of the canvas and the center of the composition often
contains unimportant information such as a doorframe or the edge of a table (4 absinth drinker). Many
of the compositions that he creates are a study of movement; Degas is less interested in creating a
story. Toulouse Lautrec is most well known for many of his lithographs; in these lithographs, he uses
specific lines to create simple suggestions of figures and

Innovation, Design, Creativity, and the United States Postal Service
OI 361 Innovation, Design, and Creativity
July 9, 2012
Benefits and Drivers Just as in nature, in business it is survival of the fittest. The key to success and
longevity for businesses in the modern world is to be innovative and creative. To be innovative, it is
imperative that a company develop a culture that encourages new ideas, welcomes the latest
technology, and implements pioneering processes. For the United States Postal Service (USPS), an
independent government agency responsible for providing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Unfortunate for the future of the agency; however, the United States Postal Service s policies,
procedures, and postal rates are governed by the Board of Governors of the United States Postal
Service. The board consists of nine members who are appointed by the President. Despite that the
United States Postal Service is legally defined as an independent establishment of the executive
branch of the Government of the United States, it is still a business. As a business it is difficult to
make changes when its high executive leaders are government officials that are content. Economic
uncertainty, an external factor that influences innovation is perhaps the most important and impactful.
Money funds innovate ideas and at moment, there seems so be very little left in the United States
Postal Service s budget to support new designs and processes. The United States Postal Service has
seen a decline in use since the introduction of e mails. According to statistics presented by the Radicati
Group, in 2010 an average of 294 billion e mails was sent each day. The market is no longer what it
used to be. However, the United States Postal Service can use technology to its advantage. Technology
is an external driver of innovation. In its early history, the United States Postal Service has used
technology to its advantage. In recent years; however, it had fallen behind in technological

Persuasive Speech on Global Warming Essay
PERSUASIVE SPEECH ON GLOBAL WARMING by: Jennifer Zelmer
Introduction: We all know about global warming, but do we really care or try to do at least some of the
things that will help stop it or at least slow it down?
1) Over the last century our planets temp. has risen 1 degree. I know that doesn t sound like much but
it s been enough to melt a lot of the polar ice caps and glaciers. A) The hottest years ever recorded
were in the late 1990 s and early 2000 s. B) In 2007 there was a massive polar ice melt and the amount
of glaciers and sea ice has decreased quite a bit since the 70 s. This has already caused the sea levels to
rise. C) The U.N. panel on climate change projects that by the end of this ... Show more content on

C) And of course we can t forget the three R s. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Only buy what you need ,
ruse whatever you can, like containers and paper, and recycle what you cannot reuse. It s really as
simple as that.
4) Th extra heat our homes produce also adversely affects the planet. A) By sealing and insulating our
homes better we can help stop that and save money on our energy bills. B) Also instead of turning up
the heat when your cold, put on an extra layer of clothes. Again you ll be saving energy and money. C)
If at all possible, use solar energy. After all it s free, all you have to do is buy the equipment. And you
would be helping to ensure that our ancestors still have a planet to live on. D) Finally, by turning off
unused power sources such as tv s and computers, again you will be helping the environment as well
as saving money on energy bills.
Conclusion: If we all would do as many things that we possibly can to help reduce greenhouse gasses
in our atmosphere, we would all be doing a great thing by helping to ensure that our grand kids and
theirs will still have this beautiful planet to live on and enjoy. Thank

  • 2. Quantitative And Qualitative Research Methodology Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methodology Comparison Research, as defined by Merriam Webster, is the activity of getting information about a subject (Research, n.d.). When looking at the research process there are two main approaches for gathering information; qualitative and quantitative approaches. The qualitative approach focuses on describing information in a deep thought provoking manner. Adversely, the quantitative approach focuses on information from a larger number of people and applies statistical techniques to recognize patterns in the data ( Organizing, n.d.). In the educational setting, principals are the leaders of the school. Principals need to develop teachers, create a safe and productive work environment, and try to impact student achievement. Great principals search for new and inventive ways to make their school thrive. Research provides principals opportunities to better understand problems and changes in the school setting. Using research based data, principals can help promote student and teacher success in the educational setting. Qualitative and Quantitative Research methods The article Involving Young People in Changing Their School Environment to Make It Safer draws upon qualitative research to explore the process of involving teachers and students in student action groups. The article draws on the qualitative process by using semi structured interviews with a small sample of students and staff members (Fletcher, Fitzgerald Yau, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. India And Pakist An Ideal Comparative Pair Essay In 1947, India and Pakistan became newly independent states, leaving behind British colonial rule. Due to the shared geographical location, background and culture between these nations, these two countries have often been compared against each other. However, since earning independence, India and Pakistan have undergone significantly different political trajectories. This paper will explore various factors that have impacted the nation building of these countries and understand why India has been successful in practicing democracy, while Pakistan has been afflicted with military and autocratic governments. India and Pakistan share cultures and histories yet have stark differences in political regime type, making an ideal comparative pair for inquiry. Historical Narrative Oldenburg describes India and Pakistan as fraternal twins due to their shared levels of extreme poverty and extreme inequality in 1947. However, the struggle to be free of British rule was distinct which set a vital precedent for the subsequent regimes of Pakistan and India. The British withdrawal was hasty due to their realization they could no longer afford to hold on to its over extended empire. One of the main reasons for the creation of a separate Muslim nation in the Indian subcontinent was due to the conflicting religious views of Hindus and Muslims. These issues had existed prior to British colonial rule, however the differences were exacerbated by British policy. Britain as a colonizer, followed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Summary Of The Great Storytellingki-Tikki Tavi The Great Rikki tikki tavi Bravery has many characters and one mammal has them all. Rikki tikki tavi fought single handed, through the bathrooms of the big bungalow in Segowlee cantonment. Darzee, the tailor bird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the muskrat, who never comes out into the middle of the floor but always creeps round by the wall, gave him advice; but Rikki tikki did the real fighting. He was a mongoose, rather like a little cat in his fur and his tail but quite like a weasel in his head and his habits. His eyes and the end of his restless nose were pink; he could scratch himself anywhere he pleased with any leg, front or back, that he chose to use; he could fluff up his tail till it looked like a bottle. One day, a high summer flood washed him out of the burrow where he lived with his father and mother and carried him, kicking and clucking, down a roadside ditch. He found a little wisp of grass floating there and clung to it till he lost his senses. When he revived, he was lying in the hot sun in the middle of a garden path, very draggled indeed, and a small boy was saying: Here s a dead mongoose. Let s have a funeral. No, said his mother; let s take him in and dry him. Perhaps he isn t really dead. (Kipling 143) The book by Rudyard Kipling and the movie Rikki tikki tavi is about a mongoose named Rikki tikki tavi. He meets Coby and saves him from Alvida (a pirate in the East Blue). In this episode, the characters that are presented showed atypical gendered behaviors and traits. For example, Alvida is a girl and she is the captain of her ship. Furthermore, she is depicted as a character who is strong and fear by both her crew and civilians. Furthermore, when the main character Monkey D. Luffy, fought with her, he fought with all his strength. In other words, he fought her as he would a male character. • 8. Analysis Of Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes is a story that was written by Chris Crutcher. This book was narrated in first person, by the protagonist Eric Moby Calhoune. His best friend is Sarah Byrnes, and they have been close since they were younger, due to their flaws. Eric is overweight and Sarah has burn scars covering her entire face. As the two grew older, Eric lost his weight when he joined the school competitive swim team. Meanwhile, Sarah Byrnes still remained as what her classmates called ugly . The two were each other s best friends, and Eric even stayed fat for a whole year for her. Sarah Byrnes believed that if Eric became skinny, then he would have more friends, and eventually forget about her. With the help of others, it is found that Sarah Byrnes was abused by her father, Virgil Byrnes, when she was three, causing the burns on her face. She has been kept in the hospital for thinking about committing suicide for the entirety of the story. Sarah is not talking to anybody, even her best friend, and Eric knows he has to find a way to make her speak. Eric Calhoune, both the protagonist and narrator, is an important character of the text. It is fascinating how he is such a devoted friend to Sarah, and wants to do whatevers best for her, even if it is not beneficial for him. Over the course of the novel, Eric evolved into a more forgiving character. This is accomplished when he goes to someone who used to bully him, Dale Thornton, for help on how to get Sarah Byrnes to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Skepticism The most basic claim of skepticism, it seems to me, usually involves a version of the classic Cartesian Evil Demon Scenario (EDS). I believe that EDS should be redefined before we start an extensive discussion thereof: EDS is generally a scenario, involving an attitude towards the reality we live in (it includes both an ontological and epistemic shift in our thinking), involving questioning the basic assumption that what we perceive in that reality is not (directly) caused by the objects (phenomena et cetera), but is caused by an indirect entity (such as an Evil Demon or an Evil Scientist simulating the experience you seem to have). Even though this is the principle skepticism is based on, to me, it is also its weakest point. In this paper, I will, first, try to reconstruct some of the common skeptic approaches and then attempt to show how skeptic arguments and scenarios can be dissolved (not refuted, since trying to refute a skeptic argument causes one to fall into the same trap as the skeptic does). The foremost example of an EDS was presented by Descartes in his Meditation I. It proceeds in phases, which I will not talk in detail, but summarize in a concise way: Descartes first observes the objects, phenomena around him; then he concedes that he cannot tell the difference between waking and dreaming, that he had the ... She turned madly toward him: I have I have I ve lost Mme. Forestier s necklace. He stood up, distracted. What! how? impossible! And they looked in the folds of her dress, in the folds of her cloak, in her pockets, everywhere. They did not find it. After a sleepless night, her husband decided to tell Mme. Forestier the truth. • 11. My Reflection Of A Trip To The Courtroom I went to the Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse on Friday August 25, 2017. Before the visit, I expected the courthouse to look like the courthouses I have visited in New York or Atlanta. Inside the courtroom was different than expected and the rooms were smaller, but I think that is because it was only a docket. I have never sit in on a docket case, but I assumed the courtroom etiquette would be the same as all other cases. I expected there to be silence in the gallery, with some hushed whispers if conversation was necessary. In the case that I watched, other lawyers were having full conversations in the first row of the gallery, right behind the prosecutor. I also expected the prosecutor and defense to address the judge and question the witness from the same general area, but the prosecutor spoke from a podium closer to the judge while the defense spoke from a podium right next to his desk. The docket case that I watched was about felony menacing. I was unsure what felony menacing was prior to visiting court that day, but as the case progressed the definition became a little bit clearer. The key players in the case were the judge, prosecutor, defense and defendant, and the key witness was the arresting officer. The defendant was arrested because the police received a call about a driver on the road waving his gun around threatening other drivers. One of the officers responding to the call stayed with the victim, while the other went to look for the car described in the call. Following a hint, the arresting officer found the car in a parking lot and pulled in behind it. Upon seeing the officer exit his car, the defendant walked out of a business with his hands in the air, saying I didn t do it. The officer had the defendant walk toward him with his hands still in the air; when the defendant was close enough, the officer handcuffed him. After the defendant was handcuffed through questioning the officer determined that the defendant had weapons in the car and had an altercation with the victim that his partner was with. The defense made a motion to suppress some of the defendant s statements because he believed they were made during an unlawful interrogation. The defense believed that because the ... • 12. Barbie Essays Barbie Since the beginning of time, toys have often been an indicator of the way a society behaves, and how they interact with their children. For example, in ancient Greece, artifacts recovered there testify that children were simply not given toys to play with as in the modern world. The cruel ritual of leaving a sick child on a hillside for dead, seems to indicate a lack of attention to the young (Lord 16). The same is true of today s society. As you can see with the number of toy stores in our society, we find toys of great value to our lives and enjoy giving them to children as gifts. Ask just about any young girl what she wants for Christmas and you ll undoubtedly get the same answer: A Barbie. But what exactly has caused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, the Barbie doll was so popular that three years after her release in 1959 Mattel was still filling orders from her first year (Long 17). It wasn t until the late 1960 s that critics began comparing Barbie to a Playboy Bunny and calling her a corrupter of youth ( Bad Girl 3). One woman commented, She s an absurd representation of what a woman should be ( Bad Girl 3) and that s exactly what many others thought she was, too. With such impossible real life measurements of 5 9 tall, 36 18 33 bust, waist, and hip (Benstock and Ferriss 35), it s easy to see why mothers across the country banned the doll from their homes and refused to let their impressionable young daughters be influenced by a piece of painted plastic (Bestock and Ferriss 35). Since dolls have often been responsible for teaching children what society deems important or beautiful, many concerned parents wondered why Mattel did not design a doll that taught more valuable lessons than dressing pretty and being dangerously skinny (Edut 19)? Who said a runway model was best suited for teaching a child what is beautiful anyway? According to a Mattel spokesperson, a Kate Moss figure is better suited for today s fashions (Edut 19), and that is one reason why Barbie must be so disproportional. Actually, another reason for Barbie s anorexic figure can be traced back long before Kate Moss and the fashion runway. Barbie was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Raphael painted and designed many brilliant pieces of work and the stanzas inside the Vatican. He was a master at such necessities of modern art such as depth and perspective and the use of light and shadow, and was the turning point styles of paintings like the use of Madonnas in paintings. Through his short life, Raphael would make some of the most awe inspiring, beautiful, and influential works of art during the Italian Renaissance. Leonardo s painting, The Virgin of the Rocks, probably influences Madonna of the Goldfinch for the faces and figures are very similar. In Madonna of the Goldfinch and a few other paintings Raphael made, he experimented with Leonardo s immense use of shade, but would always return to the lighter tones that Perugino had taught him. In 1508, at the age of 24, Pope Julius II invited Raphael to the Vatican. Raphael was summoned to the Vatican to paint things like stanzas, and was probably recommended to the pope by Domato Bramante, an architect. He was immediately well liked by the pope and everyone else at the Vatican due to his personality; Raphael was a nice, gentle, and sensitive individual. As Giorgio Vasari once said about Raphael, Raphael was so gentle and so charitable that even animals loved him, not to speak of men. • 17. Justification Of John Stuart Mill Let s create an alternative world, one without liberty, and popular social customs must be followed. If one deviates from these norms, society will ostracize the person until that person conforms to the popular beliefs and values. John Stuart Mill starts off with an argument questioning to what extent the nature and limits of the power which can legitimately [exercise] by society over the individual (Mill, n.d., p. Chapter 1). So what if, the nature and limits of power of society know no bounds? This will lead us to the alternative world where liberty and conformity will be social norms. So then Mill goes on and argues that If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind (Mill, n.d., p. Chapter 2). Mill is proposing new ideas in which there are limits and justification of using that power to silencing the individual but overall believe in the freedom of expression. John Stuart Mill is correct that mankind should not be justifiable in using their power to silence the individual and frankly, they have no right to, if they do silence the individual, they silence development of humanity. This is due to the harm principle, silencing of ideas, individuality, and limits of authority. First off, the harm principle introduced by Mill explains why all mankind minus one is unjustifiable to silence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With so much emphasis on the differences between individuals these days, it is imperative that people recognize this powerful commonality between the spectrum of humanity. Two completely different people living completely different lives are somehow still directly linked through the intrinsic nature of life. Even though the narrator from Greasy Lake , Joe as he will be called from simplicity sake and Sunny from Life After High School are separated by gender and culture, both share the commonality of a metamorphosis as the direct result of an external conflict. Regardless of the shape or appearance of this metamorphosis, I purpose that both Joe and Sunny are of the same element that only differ in structure and appearance due to the differences in both the stimuli and base parameters in their life. While the history and establishment of Camp Lewis is not as important as preparing for war, it is important to know the past in order to help posture and mold the future of tomorrow. The idea for Camp Lewis was fought for by the civilian populace of Pierce County in Washington State. Late in1916, as war continued to escalate in Europe, a private group of concerned citizens gathered at American Lake to organize a training program designed for civilian personnel. The program was designed to encourage readiness among the community in preparation for the possibility of going to war in Europe. One of the attending civilians was a cadet named Stephen Appleby. Mr. Appleby (a former Captain in the Minnesota National Guard) was vice president of the Northwest Business Men s Preparedness League and a bank cashier for Tacoma Washington. He was informed that the Army was sending out a survey team to the Northwest in search of establishing an Army Post. Mr. Appleby contacted the commander of the survey team and asked him to make a site visit of the camp that the community had established as possibility of use for the Army. Captain Richard Parks (Army survey team commander) visited Pierce County as requested and found it to be impressive. Major General J. Ipads in the Primary Classroom The introduction of the iPad/Tablet in Schools In 2010, apple introduced it s newest technology, the iPad, which promised to bring mobile technology into every home and classroom. With the introduction of the iPad comes new considerations for learning and pedagogy. (Sheppard, 2011) McKenna (2012) suggests that the internet is as common a school fixture as lockers and library books. Additionally schoolwork is one of the most common activities performed online. One of the motivators for schools to adopt iPads was the ability to use interactive textbooks. The portability of the iPad made it not only easier to carry than several text books, but easier to use. The other motivator to iPads and digital textbooks is that the interactive features and capabilities. Digital textbooks can be updated to contain the most current information. Pedagogical shift VS. Technology Implementation An appropriate pedagogical framework is necessary to incorporate iPads into the classroom (McKenna, 3, 2012) It is important that educators are aware of the difference between technology integration which involves new literacies and curriculum integration. This friendship led to the existence of Blue Ribbon Sports. After the success of selling Tiger shoes, the company renamed itself Nike in 1971. Nike is actually the name of the winged Greek goddess of victory and the SWOOSH logo represents her wing. Carolyn Davidson, who was Knight s student at Portland State University, designed and trademarked the logo in 1971. The world s nation states are commonly categorized based on their state of development; nations who have reached the end state, that being developed, are colloquially termed as developed nations or first world nations . In contrast, nations working towards this end state are referred to as developing nations or third world nations . However obvious or apparent these designations may seem, the constituents affecting the status of a respective nation s development is quite convoluted. What qualifications do developed nations hold over developing nations; what does it mean exactly to be developed or developing. The process of development is dynamic, and so is the system by which nations received their designation. A series of indicators, institutions and measures are used to assess the state of a nation s development; historically, these indicators have varied throughout time and space. Development theory has been largely presupposed to the fact that the only institutions of importance were those directly expediting market activity. Directly following World War II, the health of a nation was predominately based off its gross domestic product (GDP). This view of the market as the magic bullet dominated the social construct of development; however, this paradigm began to shift come the late 1980s/early 1990s. In 1861, Jackson was promoted as brigadier general in the Army of Northern Virginia, where he began to distinguish himself in the following battles. He gained Lee s trust and as a result, held a fair amount of control over command (Fredriksen). Jackson s strategy was to Always mystify, mislead, and surprise the enemy, if possible ( Stonewall Jackson ). He believed that despite having smaller numbers, the Confederacy could defeat the Union in battle if they act aggressive and communicate well ( Shenandoah Valley Campaign ). Use Of Biodiesel Over Petroleum Diesel 1.0 Thesis: The use of biodiesel over petroleum diesel can be proven be easier to make, more energy efficient and a greener way to run you vehicle. 2.1 Argument 1: Process The use of biodiesel over the more common petroleum diesel has become a more frequent sight as people strive for an easier and more environmental beneficial way to run their vehicle with only small modifications needed. Unlike diesel which uses crude oil, biodiesel is made by converting oils such as waste vegetable oils to bio diesel. Diagram 1: Waste oil As can be seen in the comparison matrix like conventional petrol, biodiesel is also made up of long chains of hydrogen and carbon atoms, though as can be seen in diagram 1 the oils used to create biodiesel are slightly different in having three chains of these fatty acids being connected by a backbone of glycerine. To be able to use these oils for fuel the glycerine backbone has to be removed, which is done through a process called transesterification. Equation 1: transesterification process The transesterification process uses alcohols such as methanol which is seen in equation 1 to break the bonds between the fatty acid chains and the glycerol backbone. Once the glycerol bonds have been broken away from the fatty acid chain, they are then replaced by methoxy groups from the methanol used in the process. According to (The Cemistry of Biodiesel, 2014) this process is best done at a temperature of around 50°C for a complete ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Maryland, public assistance programs as well as housing programs are able to deny assistance to individuals with incarceration histories or convictions on their records. The Corporation for Supportive Housing estimates that 10 to 12 percent of former inmates are homeless. Other studies put the count at between 15 and 27 percent (Law). With such a large percentage of inmates being released to the streets, it is no wonder that rates of recidivism are so high. Marylanders need to push for the Second Chance Act to apply to housing, and not solely to employment opportunities. Who is impacted? After a three to five year waiting period, the Maryland Second Chance Act shields conviction records of individuals with nonviolent misdemeanors. The crimes that are shielded as written in the bill are as follows: (1)DISORDERLY CONDUCT (2) DISTURBING THE PEACE (3) FAILURE TO OBEY A REASONABLE AND LAWFUL ORDER (4) MALICIOUS DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY IN THE LESSER DEGREE [under $500 damage] (5) TRESPASS ON POSTED PROPERTY (6) POSSESSING OR ADMINISTERING A CONTROLLED DANGEROUS SUBSTANCE (7) POSSESSING OR ADMINISTERING A NONCONTROLLED SUBSTANCE (8) USE OF OR POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO USE DRUG PARAPHERNALIA (9) DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENSE (10) DRIVING WHILE PRIVILEGE IS CANCELED, SUSPENDED, REFUSED, OR REVOKED (11) DRIVING WHILE UNINSURED UNDER (12) A PROSTITUTION OFFENSE IF THE CONVICTION IS FOR PROSTITUTION AND NOT ASSIGNATION. • 46. Gold Standard Pros And Cons Essay Gold standard means tying the value of the dollar to the price of gold. Gold standard provides some significant pros for the economics. Firstly, the amount of gold that a country owns limits the amount of paper money it can print. Therefore, the limited supply of money might prevent inflation. Under the gold standard, it is difficult to inflate prices by excess issuance of paper currency. In addition, the gold standard helps to keep prices stable and dollar fixed in terms of gold also has the property of stability. More specific, the gold standard limits the rate of money which could constrain the government s ability to abuse the money. In present, the U.S. gross domestic product is about $15 trillion, while the gold owned by the government is about $405 billion dollars. This gold can t support the $15 trillion economy. What s more, the supply and demand of gold is also a problem. When the demand of gold goes up, it will encourage people to search for more gold, and that will devalue the existing money and waste the resources. Also, when there is a shortage of the supply of gold, people will worry that their bank couldn t exchange paper money to gold. That would be a terrible effect to the economy. Great Depression is an example shows that the gold standard could put more people out of work and cause instability to economy. Gold standard was a reason that caused the deflation and unemployment during the Great Depression. According to Mark Thoma, an economics professor at the University of Oregon, he stated on the New York Times that A gold standard would mean that monetary policy could no longer be used to stabilize the economy. (Thoma, 2011). And James D. Hamilton, a professor of economics at the University of California, San Diego, also supported that Recovery from the Great Depression typically began only after the country abandoned the gold standard, which led to wage and price deflation. • 47. Impact Of Physical Geography Impact of Physical Geography and Development: Physical geography plays a significant part in the development and success of different people and countries. A country s location can greatly affect how that country does economically. For example, country s near water typically do better economically than landlocked because water unlocks more trade opportunities. However, some landlocked countries can still do well because of it s neighboring countries that may be located near water. Another example is the type of environment you re located in. People in countries with a more agricultural based environment will live very differently than a country surrounded by desert that may focus on oil or minerals. Yet, some countries, like the U.S, are so big that they have many different climates, ecosystems, and environments; allowing for many different types of ways to make money, trade, and live. A countires location can also affect how people live. Anything from climate to where the country is located compared to the equator can completely determine how someone lives. A place with a rainy climate that may rely on industry will be completely different that one with a more mild climate that relies on agriculture. A countires location from the equator will also drastically affect how people live. A country like Brazil that is right next to the equator will focus their industries on different things than a country like Russia, who is far away from the equator, will rely on different types of industries. A country s location can also determine how it is affected by natural disasters. For example, Thailand has a risk of tsunamis, California is greatly affected by earthquakes, and places like Hawaii are affected by volcanos. All of those things can affect a country s economy and development. Core Periphery Model or World Systems Theory: In The Power of Place Harm De Blij divides the world into two parts; the core and periphery. Core countries are often successful economically, have a dominant military, and have overall better health. Periphery countries are often poor, don t have much power, have more diseases and overall worse health, and low standards of living. Global cores are places like the U.S.A, China, ... Though he helped to develop the group of Impressionist, he did not consider himself one; he referred to himself as a Realist or an independent artist. Degas preferred to paint scenes that were indoors and lit by artificial light rather than outdoor naturally light scenes. He used many different medium when making his art such as oil paints, bronze sculptures, engravings, photos, and sketches with pencil and pastels. They were both influenced by the world that was around them; they often used theatrical dancers and prostitutes for inspiration and subjects. Like Degas, Toulouse Lautrec was also strongly influenced by Japanese prints; he used the layout and formatting of the ukiyo e prints in his own prints. Toulouse Lautrec mimicked many of the lines and areas of flat color of ukiyo e prints in his prints (3). Degas did not focus on having solid lines; he would use many shorter lines to created contours that have more depth to them rather than continual flowing lines. His lines alone are not important, what is important is the shading that adds the dimension and tonal value to a piece. He is less interested in the contours and more interested in the way that the shadows create a more three dimensional space. His interest in shadows is seen in his use of pastels where the contours become the colored shading. When creating a composition Degas does not use classical centralized contained compositions, he often has partial figures that are cut off by the edge of the canvas and the center of the composition often contains unimportant information such as a doorframe or the edge of a table (4 absinth drinker). Many of the compositions that he creates are a study of movement; Degas is less interested in creating a story. Toulouse Lautrec is most well known for many of his lithographs; in these lithographs, he uses specific lines to create simple suggestions of figures and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
