Essay on The Benefits of Naps
What do people think of when they first hear the word nap? Everyday sayings such as snatching a nap,
being caught napping, snoozing, or stealing forty winks are all beneficial daily activities we need to
add to our busy life. If we do, we will be more awake and capable to reach our full potential as an
individual. People don t realize how important a nap can be. Although popular beliefs suggest that
naps are a waste of time, naps actually increase productivity by resting the brain. Nap Basics In order
to obtain the full benefits of the nap, there are certain rules that need to be followed. Following these
guidelines will ensure maximum effectiveness. One condition is that naps should be taken in the early
afternoon. Naps can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You will be able to accomplish more. (qtd. by Griffey 42) An afternoon nap helped him with his many
responsibilities. Leonardo da Vinci used naps so much that he didn t need to sleep at night. Every two
hours, he would take a fifteen minute nap. Many believe this contributed to his seemingly endless
supply of creativity (Griffey 10). Thomas Edison would take one to two naps per day, and once turned
a patron away because he was taking a nap (Griffey 73). Bill Clinton was known for taking naps
whenever he could (Griffey 52). These famous figures dispel the myth that taking naps means ones
lazy. They accomplished so much, yet knew their individual limitations. They gave full effort when
frequent occasions required, but they also refused to run too fast. We can learn from their examples,
and restore the nap to our everyday routine. The Need for Naps In today s busy world, fatigue in the
early afternoon is nearly normal. Many believe that this slump is caused by a heavy lunch. However,
in reality, this occurs because we were meant to have a mid afternoon nap (Jacobs). Those who take
twenty minutes to nap when this slump occurs receive special benefits because sleep during the day is
more restful than extra sleep in the morning (Scott). For everyone this can be a tough to do, especially
when you have something so beneficial. Society would do well to make room for naps. When you
wake up in the morning dreading the day, not wanting to

The Pros And Cons Of Radioactivity
Radioactivity has been around since the 1800s. It is very popular in the medical field. It is used my
many professionals to help diagnose and treat people every single day. Although it does have some
advantages and disadvantages, people still use it to this day. Radioactivity is defined as the
spontaneous emission of particles . (Nuclear Energy). Radioactivity is caused by an unbalanced
nucleus in the cell. This happens because there is either an uneven number of protons and/or neutrons.
When this happens, the element is considered to have multiple isotopes. An isotope is an atom with
the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons. Thus, they have different atomic
weights. This is important to know because there is a such thing as a radioactive isotope. These
elements just have additional energy, and they release radiation in different forms. There are over 800
radioactive isotopes, some of which are natural and some synthetic. (Helmenstine). Radioactive
elements can be both artificial and natural. However, in medicine, most of them are more than likely
synthetic, since they are the most popular types. The use of radioactive elements in medicine is still
growing to this day. Many oncologists use it to treat their patients who have cancer. Many cancer
patients use this option. They use the radiation to kill off cancer cells. X ray technicians or radiologists
will also use it to administer x rays to people who may have a broken bone, or need an MRI. The
patient is injected with a radioactive material that helps the doctor be able to see inside the body
better, whether it be with pictures or ultrasound. Radioactive material is defined as material that
contains radioactivity and thus emits ionizing radiation. It may be material that contains natural
radioactivity from the environment or a material that may have been made radioactive. (The Healthy
Physics Society). This happens when someone needs a colonoscopy. They have to drink or are
injected with this liquid that helps their organs and all other masses in the body be seen better by the
radioactive materials. There are many advantages and disadvantages to the use of radioactive elements
in medicines. Some advantages include the fact that

Cultural Beliefs And Influences Of Obesity
CLC Health Issue Analysis: Part V Mary Capen, Sena Henson, Peace Okienya, LeonardOppong
Brenyah, Linda Jones Grand Canyon University: Nur 508 September 12, 2015 Cultural beliefs and
Influences Relative to Obesity Various regions of the world have different responses to the issue of
obesity. Some cultures view obesity as necessary and attractive while others are taking drastic
measures in an attempt to promote a healthy lifestyle. Although some of these drastic changes seem a
bit invasive and controversial, policy makers are debating whether it is effective and even whether or
not such a policy should be adopted in the United States. According to the article written by Gallagher,
a culture sensitive approach should be implemented in order to tackle the issue of global obesity. A
study of children of Mexican descent showed that about 32.6% of Mexican children occupying the
U.S. are overweight and about 19.2% are obese (Gallagher 2010). The parents observed in this study
were serving their children unhealthy foods, such as those from cans and fast food restaurants, due to
price and convenience (Gallagher 2010). Cultural beliefs regarding obesity also include perspectives
on body size and whether or not obesity is a disease, an illness or just an issue created by Western
influences (Brewis, 2011). Some cultures accept a larger body size and do not view this as unhealthy
but instead, accept it as expected and culturally acceptable. Brewis (2011), explains that

Use of Symbolism in Golding s Lord of the Flies Essay
Use of Symbolism in Golding s Lord of the Flies
Lord of the Flies, a suggestive name for the Devil, a devil whose name proposes that he is devoted to
decay, destruction, demoralization and panic, exactly what William Golding had in mind when using
symbolism in this novel. The Lord of the Flies (1954), is a novel in which interpretating the symbols
are a main key to not only understanding, but also enjoying the novel. After tying many of the
symbols together, you can figure out more about what the author is trying to depict, the overall scene.

He is eventually chosen as leader on account of his many positive qualities. He maintains a conflict
with Jack throughout the entire novel, trying to keep order while Jack isn t as dedicated to it. The next
person you meet in the story is a short fat boy, who wears spectacles. He is the most intellectual boy
on the island, but since he has no social skills, he is usually in the background trying to maintain the
peace. Together Ralph and Piggy represent the struggle for order and democracy.
The next thing that shows up in the story that has very importance as a symbol is the conch. Piggy and
Ralph were walking around the island looking for others, when they see a pink shell shimmering in
the water. Piggy recalled the shell as one he had seen used as an instrument. Upon seeing this, he
picked it up, handed it to Ralph, the leader figure, and told him to blow. As he did this a noise was
produced so that it carried itself across the island, drawing all the other boys to it s sound. This use of
the conch is the first to demonstrate it s symbolism as authority.
The conch, throughout the whole story, is used to achieve order, and a symbol of authority for whom
ever has possession of it, I ll give the conch to the next person to speak. He can hold it when he s

Desirable Rhetoric In Phaedrus
When Plato was writing Phaedrus he strategically wrote inspiring speakers arguing one who speaks
noble and well must know the truth about the subject he is going to discuss. Likewise, Plato did not
forgot about the responsibility of an audience. According to reflections inaugurated by the Theuth and
Thamus myth, the written word is not the most suitable vehicle for communicating truth, because it
cannot answer questions put to it; it simply repeats itself when queried; it tends to substitute the
authority of the author for the reader s open minded inquiry into the truth; and it circulates everywhere
indiscriminately, falling into the hands of people who cannot understand it. (Kraut) Thus, the
responsibility of the audience is to have an accurate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Writing is a ponderous midpoint, and therefore would not match the promising influence of
philosophical take and give in Socratic dialogue . Desirable rhetoric is a discourse that is written
down, with knowledge, in the soul of the listener; it can defend itself, and it knows for whom it should
speak and for whom it should remain silent (276a) The audience should not disclose their minds and
souls to the speakers they disagree with instead they should remain open and access the value of what
the speaker is communicating. Dialectical speech is accompanied by knowledge, can defend itself
when questioned, and is productive of knowledge in its audience (Kraut) (276e 277a). The audience
must obtain knowledge to be able to interpret the information the speaker is presenting and be able to
hold the speaker responsible for the truth of his speech. In addition, the manner of that the audience
observes a speaker is important. The audience should be able to interpret when the speaker is trying to
persuade them and should attentively comprehend what the speaker is

The Rebirth Of American Musical Theatre Essay
Two great writers of American musical theatre, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, had one
idea in common. They wanted to present to the American public a new and revolutionary musical that
would stand out above the rest. They wanted to make an impact on the societies of the era. They
wanted to be creative and do something that was considered rebellious. When they finally combined
their ideas together they created an American masterpiece in musical theatre: Oklahoma!. It was the
first Rodgers and Hammerstein collaboration, starting the most successful creative partnership in the
history of American musical theatre.
According to Joseph Swain in his book The Broadway Musical: A Critical and Musical Survey, there

has been recognized as a new kind of musical play that denied its Broadway audiences many of their
most treasured traditions, says David Ewen in American Musical Theatre. There was no opening
chorus line, no chorus until midway through the first act, in fact. There was rather a serious ballet and
other serious overtones, including a killing in act two. The story, which was so simple, seemed to
engage the audience in more than mere evening diversion. (248) These changes, far from
disappointing to viewers, were upheld by a success that had never been seen in the history of musical
theatre.
He continued to say that with their first collaboration, Rodgers and Hammerstein ushered in a new era
for the musical theatre. This beautiful folk play realized fully that which the earlier Rodgers and Hart
musicals had been striving to obtain: a synchronization of all the elements of the musical theatre into a
single entity. At best Oklahoma! could lay legitimate claim to have carefully woven a new element,
dance, into the artful fabric of the modern musical. No longer would singers sing and then go into
their dance, a purely decorative dance at that. (248)
Dance was not a new element in the theatre realm. It had been used for years as a way of interpretation
of feelings of a character that the writer or director wanted the audience to feel visually. Through
movement, expression of those feelings was portrayed and helped the audience to somewhat

Tort Law Cases Essay

cases represent a different kind of tort, a tort is a civil wrong or wrongful act, which can be either
intentional or accidental, from which injury occurs to another (Hill Hill n.d.). The torts are as listed,
intentional, criminal, negligence, and liability as presented in the four researched cases.
State Rubbish Collectors Ass n v. Siliznoff When a person violates another person s legal rights

The association was held liable for the damages that stemmed from the emotional distress of the
defendant. The plaintiff had caused the defendant to suffer such extreme fright that it compelled him
to either give up the Acme account he had been working in the service area and give to the State
Rubbish Collectors Association back payment or the defendant had to become a member with the
association and pay dues.
The courts ruled that the plaintiff had not right to use such coercive methods when competing for
business and the liability was clear in this circumstance. The defendant was awarded $1250.00 by the
plaintiff for compensatory damages and $4000.00 was awarded by the association for exemplary
damages. Plaintiff attempted to appeal stating the awarded amount was excessive; the courts ruled that
the amount awarded was not excessive and denied the appeal from the plaintiff. No dissenting opinion
was made.
People v. Watson Someone commits a wrongful act and someone is the victim is considered a crime.
The charge is against the defendant and if found to be responsible for the crime the defendant serves a
sentence and pays a fine to the government and possible restitution is paid to the victim of the crime.

Cvs Pharmacy Case Analysis
CVS Pharmacy is a major pharmacy retailer focusing on selling over the counter and prescription
drugs, beauty, personal care, and other general consumer goods. In September 2014, CVS decided to
stop selling cigarette and tobacco products in all of its pharmacy stores. The purpose is to promote its
consistent brand image as a healthcare and medical care brand for the community and business.
Health is everything 1 is what CVS believes in. Being a pharmacy company under control of CVS
Health Corporation, CVS realized that it is better for the company to take the path where the brand
activities and its vision are moving toward the same direction. This belief had urged CVS to stop its

The idea is brilliant, but the execution is not very well planning. For instance, I am a non smoker and a
regular customer at CVS, but I did not notice that CVS stopped selling cigarette for a while. Similarly,
for CVS smoker customers, they could have got confused because all of a sudden, their stores stopped
selling tobacco products. For many of them, going to a different convenience stores to grab a pack of
cigarette is easier than quit smoking. Some of them might even feel discriminated even though the
decision benefits themselves. Furthermore, for the customers, who consider convenience is their
priority, will not want to go to CVS to buy personal care products and go to other stores to buy
cigarette. They might choose CVS s competitors such as Walgreens over CVS for the convenience. In
fact, consumers do not really like it when brand tries to interfere their behaviors even for good cause.
Therefore, the intent of the brand is clear, but the communication was not handled very well. The
brand action is not effective in term of connecting the brand with its customers regard of the good
impact that CVS want to make for its consumers. CVS has pushed many of its consumers to the hands

Pulau Ubin is only accessible via a 10 minutes bumboat ride from Changi Point Ferry Terminal. These
bumboats may dispose excess oil into the sea and with this inconsiderate act; it pollutes the marine
habitat as they are not able to retrieve sunlight to produce food as the layer of oil hinders them from
doing so.
3.2. Improper disposal of waste
With the increase of tourist activities in Pulau Ubin, improper disposal of waste has seen a rise.
Walking on the coastal boardwalk of Chek Jawa, items such as bottles and plastics bags were spotted.
It is an alarming issue of pollution as not only it is unsightly to tourists but it may be harmful to living
organisms as they could not produce food from the sunlight as these plastic pollutants impede their
food making process.
3.3. Carbon emission
Mode of transportation within the island is limited. Tourists either rent bicycles or rent a van for
touring purposes. As the island is abundant with natural habitats and living organisms, these carbon
emissions from the van is a source of pollutant.

The three pieces are focused on internet safety and how/ should we make the internet a safer place for
our younger generation. They are all begging the question what is the balance between unnecessary
restriction and the safety of the most venerable members of our society through ideas of internet
addiction suicide and, feelings of fear and despair but to resolve it with solutions The writer of this
article (Stephen Balkan published on Friday the 15th of august 2014) outlines arguments made by
various acclaimed members of society such as the education advisor Anthony smythe. Balkam used
smythe to convey idea that the internet is a lawless jungle too dangerous for children to use balkam
uses this quote to make the audience feel fear and to give those invested a fresh look on the internet.

their own lives smythe then goes on to say that we need tighter legislation around the internet. Balkam
furthers this argument with ideas from the non profit FOSI (Family Online Safety Institute) though in
specifying that the institute is non profit the author is saying that this is selfless institute that we
should listen to and makes the audience feel more obliged to take their opinion into hand. The FOFI

A Report On The Outbreak Of Salmonella
Salmonella is a gram negative bacterium present in contaminated food or water. Typhoid fever is a
systemic infection caused by the serotype Salmonella typhi and can be fatal without proper
intervention. Instances of resistant typhoid are high in less developed countries. Resistance occurs
when genetic mutations prevent antibiotic mechanisms of action, making current antibiotics less
effective. The purpose of this drug screen was to target oncological drugs and diversity library
compounds to identify novel antibiotic substances. To perform the initial drug screen, we exposed
Salmonella typhimurium to various compounds and chemotherapeutic drugs. The positive and
negative controls were ampicillin and Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), respectively. We used
spectrophotometry to measure the growth of salmonella in the plate. Hits were identified as
compounds with an absorbance below 2 standard deviations of the mean DMSO value, meaning that
hits would have an absorbance below 0.065. We identified that the FDA approved drug capecitabine
had an average absorbance of 0.035. To perform a dosing series, capecitabine was diluted in a 1:2
ratio, making 13 dilutions total. The dosing series revealed that capecitabine is most effective at doses
lower than 6.25 μM. Through this process, we determined that the oncological drug Capecitabine
(Xeloda) has dose dependent antibiotic properties. Capecitabine is a prodrug to U5 fluorouracil, used

Analysis Of William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Introduction What s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell just as
sweet. This quote from Shakespeare is from the balcony scene when Juliet tells Romeo that his name
is meaningless and that he is still a handsome young man and that only their family names are
enemies. This same quote can be applied in today s society in how people address each other based on
different situations, especially when addressing women. There are many different titles that can be
used to address women as opposed to men, but despite the title used, the woman herself does not
change. Only the meaning and stereotype associated with the title used changes.
Throughout the years, the titles used to address women have slowly shifted meaning from that of a
social status to that of a marital status. Erickson (2014) explains that the titles Miss and Mrs. are the
oldest coined terms used to address women, and both of them derive from the title Mistress. Both titles
were generally only used for those of higher power and status. Miss described young girls while Mrs. ,
described women who had governed subjects, was skilled, or who taught. Upon reaching adulthood, a
Miss became a Mrs. , and according to the Oxford English Dictionary, it was common for older,
unmarried women to still use the title Mrs. so they could increase their standing to be on par with
married women. This was why sometimes this referred to as a title of politeness or courtesy title. But

Teleological Argument Analysis
The argument of choice that I ve decided to use is the argument for design (Teleological argument)
which states that complex objects themselves can very well prove the existence of powerful creator or
a God. The Teleological argument tries to simplify the idea with a watchmaker stating that all the
constantly moving cogs and devices in the watch prove the existence of a higher intelligence which is
something incomprehensible that any organism could perceive in the present life. This leads to the
idea of an uncaused causer since God is presumed to be the first entity that was able to put forth the
universe in an ongoing motion of time. Everything in the watch is meant to represent the universe,
planets, stars, and living organisms at work and in motion. The premise of this argument is
demonstrated through the claim of God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the famous criticisms of the Teleological argument is that just because the Watch exists doesn t
necessarily proves that it has order since the idea of order is imposed by the human s definition of
pandemonium. Even if the universe if it was concluded that order was a part of our creation, the
analogy could not be fully plausible since the human race has no instances of any sort of universes
being created by a supernatural entity. Lastly, if the analogy came to acceptance, we would only be
able to see so much intelligence and good will as the horizon allow us. If the universe, specifically the
earth, grew as a plant of some kind then it broadcasts imperfections due to all the evil and suffering
that takes place throughout the entirety of the earth and its residents. The reconciliation of evil stands
to be the largest opposition in the face of an Omni benevolent God. I believe that the criticisms of the
teleological arguments are well stated since the thought of a universe having a purpose or order seems
to be irrelevant in my own point of

Essay on Compare and Contrast Caravaggio and Gentileschi
Michelangelo da Caravaggio s David with the Head of Goliath and
Artemisia Gentileschi s Judith and Maidservant with the Head of
Holofernes
The period of Baroque art was from 1600 to 1750, and relates to the style of architecture and art that
was dominant at that time. Rome was the center of this new style that reflected the Counter
Reformation; the
Church was regrouping during this period, and was trying to build up its patronage by bringing people
back to worship after the Reformation. In much of the art during this time, the papacy commissioned
artists to lavishly restore Rome in the hope that Rome would become the most beautiful city that
would attract Christians. Meanwhile, in the rest of the world, William Shakespeare ... Show more

Her father was a painter named Orazio Gentileschi, who taught her how to draw and paint. Influenced
by Caravaggio s work, Gentileschi also used chiaroscuro in her work and created beautifully dramatic
pieces. Like
Caravaggio, she also was able to depict a moment of elevated drama in her work and was totally
capable of emphasizing it. In the time that she lived, women generally were not painters; very few
women even attempted it, but Gentileschi was the first woman to actually become a member of the
prestigious Accademia di Arte Disegno in Florence, Italy and to paint important historical and
religious paintings that were actually
praised and viewed as an integral part of the artistic movement.
Both Gentileschi and Caravaggio painted unconventional religious subjects; two paintings of similar
themes are Caravaggio s David with the
Head of Goliath, (c.1610), and Gentileschi s Judith and Maidservant with the Head of Holofernes (c.
1625). Both paintings evoke drama and use the technique of chiaroscuro to add effective intensity to
the story of their paintings, which entail the heroic and rather gruesome removal of someone s head.
The subject of Gentileschi s painting comes from the
Book of Judith and relates the story of Holofernes who attacked the
Jewish people of Bethulia; Judith, who was a beautiful Hebrew widow that may have been raped by
Holoferenes, entered Holofernes s camp and beheaded him while he was

The And Justice For All And Eye Of The Beholder Essay
In 1988, Metallica released its fourth album ...And Justice for All which went on to be the band s
second most bestselling album. ...And Justice for All pushes the boundaries of how progressive thrash
metal could be, having more complex song structures and tempo changes than previous albums. The
lyrical content of the album pushes the boundaries of how political metal bands could be as well. The
lyrics in songs such as ...And Justice for All and Eye of the Beholder explore how political oppression
and injustice affect the individual and why it is wrong. The Shortest Straw tells of how discrimination
and blacklisting leave an individual weak and powerless while Dyer s Eve rants of how parents can be

Changing Roles Of Women During World War I
The decade of the twenties has become known as The Roaring Twenties, The Epoch of Confusion,
The Age of Intolerance and Wonderful Nonsense, The Jazz Age, amongst many others, all of which
attempt to encompass the great times and good feelings of this decade that would influence modern
America for many decades to come. Americans had more money to spend and more time for leisure in
the hustle and bustle of cities like New York and Philadelphia. The economic boom, the changing
roles of women, and the explosion of mass culture were all contributing factors to this time of
dramatic social and political change (Staff). After World War I, the nation s economy shifted from a
military focus to one of a more domestic approach. Factories that were previously used for wartime
productions such as tanks transitioned into factories of peaceful production (Sullivan). With this
change, new products and technologies such as the automobile and household appliances were able to
be mass produced and mass consumed. This created a new economic culture of consumerism, one that
can be defined as the theory that a progressively greater consumption of goods is economically
beneficial; Attachment to materialistic values or possessions (Emerald 6) or a culture surrounding the
buying and selling of products (Sullivan). Encompassed in the frenzy of consumerism were the major
industries of automobile making, household appliances, and the world of advertising. The auto

Robots During The Industrial Revolution
Innovations in technology from the Industrial Revolution to today have changed work and the
workplace. Robots and other automated machines do many human jobs. One study concluded that
about 50 percent of US workers could be replaced by robots in the next 10 to 20 years (Jones, 2016,
para. 3). Even though robots will replace some jobs done by humans, there will be new and higher
skilled jobs for workers. Some people worry that robots will have a negative impact on humans in the
future. However, people have had this concern for a long time (Shah, 2015, para.15). During the
Industrial Revolution, workers demolished machines in the factories because they worried that their
jobs would be replaced by machines. In the manufacturing industry, machines decreased or eliminated
the need for workers. Governments tried different ways to slow or stop the development of new
technology because of their concern over job loss. In 1638, England s government legally prohibited
certain machines. And during the Depression, the US government imposed a tax on companies that
replaced workers with machines. But new technologies do not necessarily mean that workers who are
replaced by machines will not have jobs (Volti, 2012, 80 81). History has shown that even when jobs
are lost to machines, new higher skill jobs are created. For example, even though manufacturing jobs
were lost in the new economy, new jobs were created in the service industry (Volti, 2012, p. 56).

Portrayal Of Ibedienceation In Thoreau s Civil Of...
In the essay of Civil of Disobedience, Thoreau goes into detail about his personal interaction with civil
disobedience. Thoreau hasn t paid a poll tax for six years. Poll taxes are a tax levied on every adult,
without reference to income or resources. Thoreau was placed into jail for punishment for rebelling
against the government. Thoreau says his experience in jail did not hurt his spirit: I saw that, if there
was a wall of stone between me and my townsmen, there was a still more difficult one to break
through, before they could get to be as free as I was. Since the State couldn t reach his essential self,
they decided to punish his body. This illustrated the State s ultimate weakness, and Thoreau says that
he came to pity the State. The masses can t force him to do anything; he is subject only to those who
obey a higher law. He says that he has to obey his own laws and try to flourish in this way.
The night in prison, he recounts, was novel and interesting enough. His roommate had been accused of
burning down a barn, though Thoreau speculated that the man had fallen asleep drunk in the barn
while smoking a pipe. Thoreau was let in on the gossip and history of the jail and was shown several
verses that were composed in the jail. The workings of the jail fascinated him, and staying in jail that
night was like traveling in another country. He felt as if he was seeing his town through the light of the
middle ages as if he had never heard the sounds of his town before.

Self assessment for development as manager

INTRODUCTION
It is necessary for individuals to view themselves from the outside in occasionally in order to gain a
different perspective and improve their self evaluation ability. Furthermore, continual self assessments
enable leaders to understand their strengths and weaknesses so that they may improve on their
leadership success (Banutu Gomez and Rohrer 2011).
This paper explores the effectiveness of self assessment exercises as a tool to increase my self
awareness on the complexities associated with leadership. In order to ascertain if I have the necessary

From the results, I learnt that I do not have a strong preference for any particular organisational
structure or culture. This was not a surprise to me as I discovered from my experience in multiple
corporations that most combinations of organisational structure and culture can be successful given
effective leadership. However, I did notice a similar trait in all the effective leaders that I have worked
with. They all possess excellent interpersonal skills that enable them to understand their followers
sources of motivation to work. From a cultural perspective, I believe that this is my biggest challenge
to assimilate which is why this concept became my chosen area of research.
OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE
As a result of increasing globalisation of businesses and shortage of skilled labour in the workforce,
the embrace of new leadership practices is compulsory for every organisation s continual existence
and growth (Lynham and Chermack 2006). Organisations that are progressively reorganising
themselves to be more team oriented in their daily operations are enjoying the merits over traditional
approaches where individuals have the power to uphold influence over others to

Relevance And Authenticity Of Instruction
M Relevance and authenticity in instruction really stood out as memorable to me this week. It is
mentioned that connection to real meaning can make or break learning (Reiser and Dempsey, p. 58). I
completely agree that teaching skills in isolation or without any real connection can result in
temporary memorization, but no long term retention or the ability to transfer that knowledge to new
situations. I appreciate the authors pointing out that to maximize the likelihood of meaningful learning
occurring, students need to ... work on problems that a) mean something to them personally and b) are
rich and complex enough to invoke real expertise (Reiser and Dempsey, p. 58). If students are shown
that the knowledge is relevant and needed in real world situations, they are more likely to internalize
the information for long term use. This is an area that I need to make sure is addressed in my
instruction going forward.
A I agreed with Reiser and Dempsey (p 352) when they discussed that everyone in a group learns
information in different ways. While this statement in the text was referring to assistive technologies, I
believe it is true of any learner. There are many different styles of learning and preferences for
acquiring and demonstrating knowledge. To provide students with the most effective learning
environment, it is best to provide choices in how to interact with information. Some students may
benefit from having access to PowerPoint presentations while

Why Do Jewish Holidays
When people think of holidays they would think Christmas or thanksgiving. But with the Jewish
religion they celebrate holidays a little bit different than most people. With the Jewish cultural they
celebrate Shabbat, Passover, You Kippur, Sukkot, and Hanukkah.
The Shabbat is considered the most important of all Jewish holidays. It is the day of rest and weekly
observance of God s completion of creation. Shabbat starts on a Friday night an hour before sunset, it
lasts for 25 hour until sunset on Saturday night. This holiday is one of the way the Jewish people
connect with Yahweh because these people will make some of the tuitional meal that comes with this
holiday. Also, they will make the setting special because they are celebration their god ... Show more

It is the most solemn day of the Jewish year, Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement offers an
entire day devoted to self examination. Many spend the day in synagogue devoted to prayer and study
while abstaining from food and drink. The goal is to begin the New Year with a clean slate, which can
be good for many of the Jews who do bad things and need a new start at life.
And after that would come Sukkot. This seven day festival celebrates the fall harvest and also
commemorates the time when the Hebrews dwelt in the Sinai wilderness on their way to the Promised
land of Israel, which is important for the Jewish people because they don t want to end up in what they
called pit of fire. Also, the holiday is celebrated by building (and then dwelling in) ceremonial huts
called Sukkot.
Finally comes Hanukkah. This beloved eight day winter festival celebrates the miracle of a small cruse
of oil when it burned for eight days, instead of only one. It also celebrates the military victory of the
Jewish Maccabees over the powerful Syrian Greek army in 167 BCE. The victory was followed by a
rededication(Hanukkah) of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem. It is from this act that the holiday gets its
name, which I find very interesting because of something so small created a holiday. But with
Christian religion it would be Christmas and its only celebrated one day. The day where Mary had

Howard Hughes Impact On Aviation
Howard Hughes has had an outstanding impact on aviation s history. Next to his strange paranoia and
wealth from countless movies, he had a lifelong passion for aviation! Although there was a film
produced about his life, there is a lot that the world doesn t know about Mr. Hughes. Howard Hughes
was born on December 24, 1905 in Humble, Texas to Allene and Howard R. Hughes Sr. He had an
early fascination for mechanics around age 10. By 12, he had built his own motorcycle. I believe that
his fascination began with his father s tool company that was built in 1909. His father has patented
rotary oil drilling equipment that allowed miners to dig in areas that were once inaccessible. His father
s company was passed down to Howard when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon further reading, it is said that the U.S. Air Force was willing to help Howard due to his
pioneering work in aviation. I m sure Howard was extremely grateful for the Air Force and their
willingness to help with the production of Jet Pilot . Although Howard was most often known for his
movies, his first love was aviation (Simonsen, 2005). During and after the filming of his movies, his
passion for aviation had exploded! In 1928 he received his pilot license. In 1932, Howard started
Hughes Aircraft Company, which was part of his father s previously known business, Hughes Tool
Company. It was originally developed to turn a military aircraft into a racer, but it eventually
developed aviation inventions (Lerner, 2004). The first plane that Hughes Aircraft Company invented
was built in 1935. The name of which is the H1, also known as the Hughes 1B. This gorgeous plane
was a length of 27 feet, height of 7.87 feet, and a width of 31.73 feet. Howard was the first man to fly
the H1 on September 13, 1925. This beast of an airplane set a world air speed record of 353 miles per
hour. On January 13, 1937, the H1 set a United States transcontinental speed record of 7 hours, 28

The Effectiveness Of Non Enzyme Soap On Cleaning Red Stamp...
Investigate the effectiveness of non enzyme soap on cleaning red stamp ink at different temperatures
Rebecca (Jiawen Hu) Introduction: United States of America is the first foreign country that I have
been to. I was surprised to find out people there prefer to use washing machine to clean every cloth,
when I was living in a campus s dormitory for a summer camp. However, in my homeland, China,
people are used to washing clothes by hands. For my mother, she always washes clothes by hand. The
sad thing is there is chilblain on her hands during each winter and she insists to wash clothes in cold
water. I told her for many times that washing clothes in warmer water would alleviate her pain. But
she insisted that it was better to wash clothes in cold water because hot water would hamper the right
function of soap. I was very confused because in my chemistry class, we only talked about the limit of
enzyme laundry soap that it cannot be used at too high temperature. However, I am sure the soap my
mother used did not contain enzyme that is special for cleaning certain stain. So a question came into
my mind that how does temperature influence the cleaning function of non enzyme soap? Will the non
enzyme soap clean up more stain if it is used in water at high temperature? At the same time, I want to
convince my mother by experiment that soap can clean more stain if we use it at higher temperature. I
will use effectiveness to refer to the extent of red stamp ink stain on cotton

Psychological Theories In Mean Girls
Introduction Psychologists all over the world have studied the complexity of adolescents and their
behaviors through out this stage of the human life span. In the movie, Mean Girls, (Waters, 2004)
Lindsay Lohan portrays the main actress known as Cady Herron. Unlike most teens, Cady was raised
in Africa, with her parents as Zoologists. She was homeschooled for all of her school years, and this
would be the first attempt at public school. Cady like most adolescents, finds herself in a rock and a
hard place when she is caught between real friendship and the fake ego plastic one. From the view of a
Developmental Psychologist, there are several key factors and theories strongly influencing Cady and
her behaviors during this time in her life. Moral emotions, moral reasoning, forging a sense of identity,
and self esteem are among the few that were chosen to take emphases on. Moral Emotion Moral
emotion is classified under Sigmund Freud s Psychoanalytic Theory along with empathy, prosocial
behavior, and antisocial behavior. (Life Span, 2015, 2012, pp. 35 40) All are behaviors and stages that
Cady is experiencing at this time in her life. Moral emotions, both positive and negative, require being
able to evaluate whether you or others have exceeded or fallen short of standards of behaviors. Cady
shows signs of antisocial behavior when she works up a plan with best friend Janis Ian to take down

The Etiology Of The Disorder Essay
Describe the etiology of the disorder. Bipolar Disorders are considered complex because of the
episodes that are experienced. They include dysfunctional mood, potentially including major
depressive episodes, mild to moderate depressive episodes, manic episodes, hypomanic episodes, and
mixed episodes, which are often separated by periods of relatively normal mood. (BDII). There are
two types of Bipolar Disorders that I will cover in this paper. They include Bipolar I disorder (BP I)
and Bipolar II disorder (BD II).According to the Epidemiologic Catchment Area Study, as cited by
Kleinman, Lowin, Flood, Gandhi, Edgell, and Revicki (2003), the lifetime prevalence by race and
ethnicity for BD I and BD II, are as follows: Caucasian 0.8% and 0.4%, African American 1.0% and
0.6%, and Hispanic 0.7% and 0.5%.. Lifetime prevalence rate for Bipolar I is 0.6%and bipolar II it is
0.3% over a 12 month period (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). People who have Bipolar I
disorder typically experience alternating episodes of depression and mania where there is a separation
of some level of normalcy in the sequence (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). For example,
they might be depressed for 4 days feel normal for a couple of days than go into a manic episode. On
the other hand, those with Bipolar II disorder they only experience depressive episodes and will not
have an episode of mania. Describe the diagnostic features of the disorder. Describe the differential

Define ethical issue and introduce your health topic explaining why it is an
ethical issue. (Use and reference NZ statistics / information).
The ethical issue is Euthanasia, there are many groups that support or oppose this issue. Euthanasia is
the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible
coma. The different viewpoints are based around whether it is humane to assist someone in dying and
whether it should be illegal for someone to assist the death of someone who has a terminal illness and
are suffering incurable pain. Groups that oppose the issue generally believe that it is inhumane to end
someone s life early, these groups generally believe these people should be given care and as much
comfort as possible until their last days. Groups that support the issue generally believe that if
someone has lost their mental state or are suffering unbearable pain that cannot be cured, that they
should be allowed the option of euthanasia because it is inhumane to make someone suffer unbearable
pain if they do not need to. An ethical issue brings systems of morality and principles into conflict,
ethical issues are more subjective and opinionated and generally cannot be solved with facts, laws and

The Effects of Gender Roles on Chinese Natal Policies
The Effects of Gender Roles on Chinese Natal Policies
China is quickly becoming a very prosperous nation. There is one aspect, however, that threatens to
derail its rise to prosperity, the exponentially high birth rates. To combat China s growing population,
government officials enforced an anti natalist policy known as the One Child Policy. Ultimately, the
policy amounted to an assault on China s system of gender norms and roles ( Family Planning ). With
the implementation of China s One Child Policy, sex preference among babies has become evident.
Socially, it has been the duty of a woman to obey her father as a child; her husband as a married
person; and her son as a widow ( Confucianism: Woman s Way ). In regards to the ... Show more

This notion exists because China is built on tradition. In Chinese tradition, women are solely
homemakers and have no purpose outside the home. Thus, men felt that if tradition was disrupted,
chaos would be unleashed throughout China. Although these laws were created to prevent
discrimination, they were not enforced. As a result, discrimination continued. Experts say that only
few women dare to sue employers for unfair hiring practices, dismissal on grounds of pregnancy or
maternity leave, or sexual harassment ( Equality Still a Dream ). Ultimately, women are able to work
outside the home in modern day China; however, they are still hesitant to defend themselves out of
fear of losing their jobs. Preference between males and females still exists in the workforce due to the
fact that males are not subject to paternity leaves or sexual harassment. Commonly, women are
restricted to behind the desk jobs such as secretaries, financial analysts, and librarians as that require
very little labor. Indubitably, women also earn less than men as they must retire five years earlier than
men who are in the same jobs ( Equality Still a Dream ). Thus, a male is preferred as his role in the
workforce is considered to be more substantial than that of a woman, which further emphasizes a son
preference in China.
Not only are a woman s social status and contribution to the workforce causes of the One Child Policy,

In this Essay I am going to watch four different documentaries, all with different topics. I will analyse
them and then work out how they offer gratifications to the audiences. I will write about what affect
they have and why they are used. I watched four different documentaries with four different topics:
Historical (Pirates The Golden Age), Mystery (Vanished The plane that disappeared), Nature (Blue

ways in which they individually gratify the audience and explain the set topic. First I will explain

The Vanished documentary has a split narrative structure skipping from scenes of the airplane to when
the soldiers are sent up on the investigation this is the only documentary, which is structured this way
and works very well it bounces back and forth in time. This technique is used because it builds a
suspense for the viewer and just a crucial moment is near it will switch so the viewer will continue
watching until it switches back again to the main screen, it gratifies the audience when it is shown
again. The Blue Planet has a very linear structure like the Burkitsville Seven (the beginning of the
documentary is shallow and it ends up at the bottom of the ocean) but at the end they have a sub
section demonstrating how the produced the documentary and proving its reality, this is a form of self
reflexive filming. They do not need to build suspense because it is not that genre of documentary. The
Pirate documentary as well as the Burkitsville Seven and the Blue Planet happens periodically but this

Vying for Patients, Hospitals Think Location, Location.
INTRODUCTION. Hospitals are health care institutions that are normally located in areas that are
densely populated. There are over 17,000 hospitals in the whole world. In accord with the original
meaning of the word, hospitals were originally places of hospitality , and this meaning is still
preserved in the names of some institutions such as the Royal Hospital Chelsea, established in 1681 as
a retirement and nursing home for veteran soldiers. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hospital#General) In
general, hospitals are normally located in areas where they are other major hospitals as a way to
acquire materials at low transportation costs. Unlike other businesses like franchises like McDonalds
that would prefer to be in an area where there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some other cases locating near other hospitals as discussed earlier helps in the reduction of
transport cost. So with this factor one must weigh the benefits of locating away from other hospitals
versus locating near other hospitals. b. The physical facility in terms of building is an important aspect
in consideration of the location of a hospital. Depending on the kind of services the hospital wants to
provide the building facilities must be conducive enough to accommodate the equipment to be used in
the providing of those services. This will greatly impact the quality of services provided by the
hospital that will help in the acquiring of larger market share and optimize profits. c. The geography
and demographic of the hospital s location may plays an important role in market share and profit
optimization. The hospital industry is highly regulated and as such is vulnerable to government
reimbursement. For this reason, a highly profit hospital will likely have a growing pool of
commercially insured patients. So a hospital may rather locate itself in neighborhoods of high income
earners because they are the ones who are likely to have both the money and the insurance to pay the
medical bills. This will greatly help in profit optimization because this will mean less patients
receiving services on credit but rather more patients paying cash

The Teaching Assistant
The teacher:
Through assessment of the pupils the teacher will know what level each pupil has achieved regarding
their learning and they will be able to include specific tasks or activities in the lesson plan knowing
the different abilities of their pupils.
The teacher may be able to give the pupil the responsibility of managing his or her own work.
They will be able to set new realistic targets for pupils.
The teacher may plan for pupils of similar abilities in a particular subject to work in a group as they
may be working at the same pace, or alternatively pair pupils of higher and lower abilities so they can
help each other. Pupil:

They can review their learning strategies independently because they will know when it is working
and when it is not. Learning Support Assistant:
Through assessment of the pupils the teaching assistant will know and understand the pupils learning
styles and abilities and will be able to question the pupils in a more effective way.
A teaching assistant can create more time in an activity for a less able pupil to revisit part of the lesson
where the pupil struggled, or suggest to the teacher to work one to one with pupils who need that extra
push to understand certain matters.

Environmental Impact Report On California Department Of...
Thank you for providing the California Department of Transportation (Department) the opportunity to
review and comment on the Notice of Preparation of a Draft Environmental Impact Report for the
Valley Corridor Specific Plan (Project). The project area would be oriented along a 1.25 mile corridor
of Valley Boulevard between Alder and Spruce Avenues boundaries. The Project proposes land use
and development framework to ultimately support approximately 1,093 housing units in residential
and mixed use projects and up to 1.9 million square feet of nonresidential building square footage
comprised of a variety of retail stores, restaurants, hotels, and business development/office space on a
355 acre area.
As the owner and operator of the State Highway System (SHS), it is our responsibility to coordinate
and consult with local jurisdictions when proposed development may impact our facilities. As the
responsible agency under the California Environmental Quality Act, it is also our responsibility to
make recommendations to offset associated impacts with the proposed project. Although the project is
under the jurisdiction of the County of San Bernardino, due to the project s potential impact to the
State facilities, it is also subject to the policies and regulations that govern the SHS.
Our areas of concern, pertaining to State facilities, include hydrology/flooding and
transportation/traffic issues. Due to these potentially significant impacts and because the south portion

Tarantino s Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction is a movie that almost everyone today has seen during it theater run or at home on DVD
or Netflix. However, it can be a complicated movie to understand if one is only looking for a straight
narrative. Pulp fiction seems to have multiple plots being told almost simultaneously creating an aura
of confusion for the ones not paying close attention. Some will say it is about two hit men or a boxer,
but actually there is no set story behind the film. The whole purpose of the film was to parody every
type of film movement created.
Tarantino s film included all types of film movement ever created; however, his film had no story.
Maybe this was done to show that by applying some of the rules from each movement, a director can

Other aspects of the film such as mise en scene also make the film s meaning. Tarantino also used his
film to define social themes, especially through the use of the mise en scene. Specifically, in the scene
where the young Butch is about to receive his father s gold watch, he is watching a show that can be
considered racist showing the upbringing and themes of the past. Another example, is when Jules and
Vincent take Marvin s body to Jimmie s house. Jimmie s reaction is actually very surrealistic. In other
words, the incident manages to rekindle the racial stereotypes that were lurking in Jimmie s
subconscious. Jimmie says a swear word that can be offensive without even thinking twice about what
he has said, especially in front of his African American friend, Jules. Normally, in most movies and
real life situations this would not be tolerated and would cause an issue. Tarantino also makes many
references to television shows throughout his film. This gives his film a Post Modernist style,
however, it can also be used as a social commentary on the importance of television to modern day
society. Additionally, Tarantino seems to have based his characters on different characters from the
earlier styles of cinema. For

A Maori World
In the context of a Maori world view the role of women is different from that of women in European
culture; women played a key role in the collective of the whanau, hapu and iwi. There was no
hierarchy of the sexes. This is exemplified in the Maori language, where both the possessive and
personal pronouns are gender neutral.
Mana wahine is a theoretical and methodological approach that explicitly examines the intersection of
being Maori and female (Simmonds 11). Mana wahine isn t to be confused with Maori feminism, as
this may confuse ideas with the Western concept of feminism. Key elements included in mana wahine
are the concepts of whakapapa, wairua, and whanau (Hutchings 36). Many indigenous artists in
Aotearoa New Zealand engage with mana wahine as inspiration, some with ties to decolonisation.
These artists/designers use their work in reply to the dominant Pakeha culture and the history that is
shared. Art/design that engages with mana wahine is often linked to decolonisation narratives the
process by which the changes brought about under colonialism are undone. For mana wahine, it is a
reclamation of indigenous narratives, like Maori women s narratives in cosmology.
Audre Lorde wrote an essay for feminist postcolonial theory in which she muses that the women who
stand outside of this society s definition of acceptable women have to use the differences and become
strong from them (Lorde 26). The title of the essay is The Master s tools will never

  • 2. Essay on The Benefits of Naps What do people think of when they first hear the word nap? Everyday sayings such as snatching a nap, being caught napping, snoozing, or stealing forty winks are all beneficial daily activities we need to add to our busy life. If we do, we will be more awake and capable to reach our full potential as an individual. People don t realize how important a nap can be. Although popular beliefs suggest that naps are a waste of time, naps actually increase productivity by resting the brain. (qtd. by Griffey 42) An afternoon nap helped him with his many responsibilities. Leonardo da Vinci used naps so much that he didn t need to sleep at night. Every two hours, he would take a fifteen minute nap. Many believe this contributed to his seemingly endless supply of creativity (Griffey 10). Thomas Edison would take one to two naps per day, and once turned a patron away because he was taking a nap (Griffey 73). Bill Clinton was known for taking naps whenever he could (Griffey 52). These famous figures dispel the myth that taking naps means ones lazy. They accomplished so much, yet knew their individual limitations. They gave full effort when frequent occasions required, but they also refused to run too fast. We can learn from their examples, and restore the nap to our everyday routine. The Need for Naps In today s busy world, fatigue in the early afternoon is nearly normal. Many believe that this slump is caused by a heavy lunch. However, in reality, this occurs because we were meant to have a mid afternoon nap (Jacobs). Those who take twenty minutes to nap when this slump occurs receive special benefits because sleep during the day is more restful than extra sleep in the morning (Scott). For everyone this can be a tough to do, especially when you have something so beneficial. Society would do well to make room for naps. • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Radioactivity Radioactivity has been around since the 1800s. It is very popular in the medical field. It is used my many professionals to help diagnose and treat people every single day. Although it does have some advantages and disadvantages, people still use it to this day. Radioactivity is defined as the spontaneous emission of particles . (Nuclear Energy). Radioactivity is caused by an unbalanced nucleus in the cell. This happens because there is either an uneven number of protons and/or neutrons. When this happens, the element is considered to have multiple isotopes. An isotope is an atom with the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons. Thus, they have different atomic weights. This is important to know because there is a such thing as a radioactive isotope. These elements just have additional energy, and they release radiation in different forms. There are over 800 radioactive isotopes, some of which are natural and some synthetic. (Helmenstine). Radioactive elements can be both artificial and natural. However, in medicine, most of them are more than likely synthetic, since they are the most popular types. The use of radioactive elements in medicine is still growing to this day. Many oncologists use it to treat their patients who have cancer. Many cancer patients use this option. They use the radiation to kill off cancer cells. X ray technicians or radiologists will also use it to administer x rays to people who may have a broken bone, or need an MRI. The patient is injected with a radioactive material that helps the doctor be able to see inside the body better, whether it be with pictures or ultrasound. Radioactive material is defined as material that contains radioactivity and thus emits ionizing radiation. It may be material that contains natural radioactivity from the environment or a material that may have been made radioactive. (The Healthy Physics Society). This happens when someone needs a colonoscopy. They have to drink or are injected with this liquid that helps their organs and all other masses in the body be seen better by the radioactive materials. Cultural Beliefs And Influences Of Obesity CLC Health Issue Analysis: Part V Mary Capen, Sena Henson, Peace Okienya, LeonardOppong Brenyah, Linda Jones Grand Canyon University: Nur 508 September 12, 2015 Cultural beliefs and Influences Relative to Obesity Various regions of the world have different responses to the issue of obesity. Some cultures view obesity as necessary and attractive while others are taking drastic measures in an attempt to promote a healthy lifestyle. Although some of these drastic changes seem a bit invasive and controversial, policy makers are debating whether it is effective and even whether or not such a policy should be adopted in the United States. According to the article written by Gallagher, a culture sensitive approach should be implemented in order to tackle the issue of global obesity. A study of children of Mexican descent showed that about 32.6% of Mexican children occupying the U.S. are overweight and about 19.2% are obese (Gallagher 2010). The parents observed in this study were serving their children unhealthy foods, such as those from cans and fast food restaurants, due to price and convenience (Gallagher 2010). Cultural beliefs regarding obesity also include perspectives on body size and whether or not obesity is a disease, an illness or just an issue created by Western influences (Brewis, 2011). Some cultures accept a larger body size and do not view this as unhealthy but instead, accept it as expected and culturally acceptable. Brewis (2011), explains that ... The next person you meet in the story is a short fat boy, who wears spectacles. He is the most intellectual boy on the island, but since he has no social skills, he is usually in the background trying to maintain the peace. Together Ralph and Piggy represent the struggle for order and democracy. The next thing that shows up in the story that has very importance as a symbol is the conch. Piggy and Ralph were walking around the island looking for others, when they see a pink shell shimmering in the water. Piggy recalled the shell as one he had seen used as an instrument. Upon seeing this, he picked it up, handed it to Ralph, the leader figure, and told him to blow. As he did this a noise was produced so that it carried itself across the island, drawing all the other boys to it s sound. This use of the conch is the first to demonstrate it s symbolism as authority. The conch, throughout the whole story, is used to achieve order, and a symbol of authority for whom ever has possession of it, I ll give the conch to the next person to speak. Desirable Rhetoric In Phaedrus When Plato was writing Phaedrus he strategically wrote inspiring speakers arguing one who speaks noble and well must know the truth about the subject he is going to discuss. Likewise, Plato did not forgot about the responsibility of an audience. According to reflections inaugurated by the Theuth and Thamus myth, the written word is not the most suitable vehicle for communicating truth, because it cannot answer questions put to it; it simply repeats itself when queried; it tends to substitute the authority of the author for the reader s open minded inquiry into the truth; and it circulates everywhere indiscriminately, falling into the hands of people who cannot understand it. They wanted to be creative and do something that was considered rebellious. When they finally combined their ideas together they created an American masterpiece in musical theatre: Oklahoma!. The story, which was so simple, seemed to engage the audience in more than mere evening diversion. He continued to say that with their first collaboration, Rodgers and Hammerstein ushered in a new era for the musical theatre. This beautiful folk play realized fully that which the earlier Rodgers and Hart musicals had been striving to obtain: a synchronization of all the elements of the musical theatre into a single entity. At best Oklahoma! could lay legitimate claim to have carefully woven a new element, dance, into the artful fabric of the modern musical. No longer would singers sing and then go into their dance, a purely decorative dance at that. (248) Dance was not a new element in the theatre realm. Typhoid fever is a systemic infection caused by the serotype Salmonella typhi and can be fatal without proper intervention. Instances of resistant typhoid are high in less developed countries. Resistance occurs when genetic mutations prevent antibiotic mechanisms of action, making current antibiotics less effective. The purpose of this drug screen was to target oncological drugs and diversity library compounds to identify novel antibiotic substances. To perform the initial drug screen, we exposed Salmonella typhimurium to various compounds and chemotherapeutic drugs. The positive and negative controls were ampicillin and Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), respectively. We used spectrophotometry to measure the growth of salmonella in the plate. Hits were identified as compounds with an absorbance below 2 standard deviations of the mean DMSO value, meaning that hits would have an absorbance below 0.065. We identified that the FDA approved drug capecitabine had an average absorbance of 0.035. To perform a dosing series, capecitabine was diluted in a 1:2 ratio, making 13 dilutions total. The dosing series revealed that capecitabine is most effective at doses lower than 6.25 μM. This quote from Shakespeare is from the balcony scene when Juliet tells Romeo that his name is meaningless and that he is still a handsome young man and that only their family names are enemies. This same quote can be applied in today s society in how people address each other based on different situations, especially when addressing women. There are many different titles that can be used to address women as opposed to men, but despite the title used, the woman herself does not change. Only the meaning and stereotype associated with the title used changes. Throughout the years, the titles used to address women have slowly shifted meaning from that of a social status to that of a marital status. Erickson (2014) explains that the titles Miss and Mrs. are the oldest coined terms used to address women, and both of them derive from the title Mistress. Both titles were generally only used for those of higher power and status. Miss described young girls while Mrs. , described women who had governed subjects, was skilled, or who taught. Upon reaching adulthood, a Miss became a Mrs. , and according to the Oxford English Dictionary, it was common for older, unmarried women to still use the title Mrs. so they could increase their standing to be on par with married women. The Teleological argument tries to simplify the idea with a watchmaker stating that all the constantly moving cogs and devices in the watch prove the existence of a higher intelligence which is something incomprehensible that any organism could perceive in the present life. This leads to the idea of an uncaused causer since God is presumed to be the first entity that was able to put forth the universe in an ongoing motion of time. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the famous criticisms of the Teleological argument is that just because the Watch exists doesn t necessarily proves that it has order since the idea of order is imposed by the human s definition of pandemonium. Lastly, if the analogy came to acceptance, we would only be able to see so much intelligence and good will as the horizon allow us. If the universe, specifically the earth, grew as a plant of some kind then it broadcasts imperfections due to all the evil and suffering that takes place throughout the entirety of the earth and its residents. In the time that she lived, women generally were not painters; very few women even attempted it, but Gentileschi was the first woman to actually become a member of the prestigious Accademia di Arte Disegno in Florence, Italy and to paint important historical and religious paintings that were actually praised and viewed as an integral part of the artistic movement. With this change, new products and technologies such as the automobile and household appliances were able to be mass produced and mass consumed. This created a new economic culture of consumerism, one that can be defined as the theory that a progressively greater consumption of goods is economically beneficial; Attachment to materialistic values or possessions (Emerald 6) or a culture surrounding the buying and selling of products (Sullivan). Encompassed in the frenzy of consumerism were the major industries of automobile making, household appliances, and the world of advertising. The auto industry was jet ... • 23. Robots During The Industrial Revolution Innovations in technology from the Industrial Revolution to today have changed work and the workplace. Robots and other automated machines do many human jobs. One study concluded that about 50 percent of US workers could be replaced by robots in the next 10 to 20 years (Jones, 2016, para. 3). Even though robots will replace some jobs done by humans, there will be new and higher skilled jobs for workers. Some people worry that robots will have a negative impact on humans in the future. However, people have had this concern for a long time (Shah, 2015, para.15). During the Industrial Revolution, workers demolished machines in the factories because they worried that their jobs would be replaced by machines. In the manufacturing industry, machines decreased or eliminated the need for workers. Governments tried different ways to slow or stop the development of new technology because of their concern over job loss. In 1638, England s government legally prohibited certain machines. And during the Depression, the US government imposed a tax on companies that replaced workers with machines. But new technologies do not necessarily mean that workers who are replaced by machines will not have jobs (Volti, 2012, 80 81). History has shown that even when jobs are lost to machines, new higher skill jobs are created. For example, even though manufacturing jobs were lost in the new economy, new jobs were created in the service industry (Volti, 2012, p. 56). Robots increase the efficiency of ... • 24. Portrayal Of Ibedienceation In Thoreau s Civil Of... In the essay of Civil of Disobedience, Thoreau goes into detail about his personal interaction with civil disobedience. Thoreau hasn t paid a poll tax for six years. Poll taxes are a tax levied on every adult, without reference to income or resources. Thoreau was placed into jail for punishment for rebelling against the government. Thoreau says his experience in jail did not hurt his spirit: I saw that, if there was a wall of stone between me and my townsmen, there was a still more difficult one to break through, before they could get to be as free as I was. Since the State couldn t reach his essential self, they decided to punish his body. This illustrated the State s ultimate weakness, and Thoreau says that he came to pity the State. The masses can t force him to do anything; he is subject only to those who obey a higher law. He says that he has to obey his own laws and try to flourish in this way. The night in prison, he recounts, was novel and interesting enough. His roommate had been accused of burning down a barn, though Thoreau speculated that the man had fallen asleep drunk in the barn while smoking a pipe. Thoreau was let in on the gossip and history of the jail and was shown several verses that were composed in the jail. The workings of the jail fascinated him, and staying in jail that night was like traveling in another country. He felt as if he was seeing his town through the light of the middle ages as if he had never heard the sounds of his town before. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is mentioned that connection to real meaning can make or break learning (Reiser and Dempsey, p. 58). I completely agree that teaching skills in isolation or without any real connection can result in temporary memorization, but no long term retention or the ability to transfer that knowledge to new situations. I appreciate the authors pointing out that to maximize the likelihood of meaningful learning occurring, students need to ... work on problems that a) mean something to them personally and b) are rich and complex enough to invoke real expertise (Reiser and Dempsey, p. 58). If students are shown that the knowledge is relevant and needed in real world situations, they are more likely to internalize the information for long term use. This is an area that I need to make sure is addressed in my instruction going forward. A I agreed with Reiser and Dempsey (p 352) when they discussed that everyone in a group learns information in different ways. While this statement in the text was referring to assistive technologies, I believe it is true of any learner. There are many different styles of learning and preferences for acquiring and demonstrating knowledge. To provide students with the most effective learning environment, it is best to provide choices in how to interact with information. It is the day of rest and weekly observance of God s completion of creation. Shabbat starts on a Friday night an hour before sunset, it lasts for 25 hour until sunset on Saturday night. It is the most solemn day of the Jewish year, Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement offers an entire day devoted to self examination. Many spend the day in synagogue devoted to prayer and study while abstaining from food and drink. The goal is to begin the New Year with a clean slate, which can be good for many of the Jews who do bad things and need a new start at life. And after that would come Sukkot. This seven day festival celebrates the fall harvest and also commemorates the time when the Hebrews dwelt in the Sinai wilderness on their way to the Promised land of Israel, which is important for the Jewish people because they don t want to end up in what they called pit of fire. Also, the holiday is celebrated by building (and then dwelling in) ceremonial huts called Sukkot. Finally comes Hanukkah. This beloved eight day winter festival celebrates the miracle of a small cruse of oil when it burned for eight days, instead of only one. It also celebrates the military victory of the Jewish Maccabees over the powerful Syrian Greek army in 167 BCE. The victory was followed by a rededication(Hanukkah) of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem. In 1928 he received his pilot license. In 1932, Howard started Hughes Aircraft Company, which was part of his father s previously known business, Hughes Tool Company. Investigate the effectiveness of non enzyme soap on cleaning red stamp ink at different temperatures Rebecca (Jiawen Hu) Introduction: United States of America is the first foreign country that I have been to. I was surprised to find out people there prefer to use washing machine to clean every cloth, when I was living in a campus s dormitory for a summer camp. However, in my homeland, China, people are used to washing clothes by hands. For my mother, she always washes clothes by hand. The sad thing is there is chilblain on her hands during each winter and she insists to wash clothes in cold water. I told her for many times that washing clothes in warmer water would alleviate her pain. But she insisted that it was better to wash clothes in cold water because hot water would hamper the right function of soap. I was very confused because in my chemistry class, we only talked about the limit of enzyme laundry soap that it cannot be used at too high temperature. However, I am sure the soap my mother used did not contain enzyme that is special for cleaning certain stain. So a question came into my mind that how does temperature influence the cleaning function of non enzyme soap? Will the non enzyme soap clean up more stain if it is used in water at high temperature? At the same time, I want to convince my mother by experiment that soap can clean more stain if we use it at higher temperature. (BDII). There are two types of Bipolar Disorders that I will cover in this paper. They include Bipolar I disorder (BP I) and Bipolar II disorder (BD II).According to the Epidemiologic Catchment Area Study, as cited by Kleinman, Lowin, Flood, Gandhi, Edgell, and Revicki (2003), the lifetime prevalence by race and ethnicity for BD I and BD II, are as follows: Caucasian 0.8% and 0.4%, African American 1.0% and 0.6%, and Hispanic 0.7% and 0.5%.. Lifetime prevalence rate for Bipolar I is 0.6%and bipolar II it is 0.3% over a 12 month period (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). People who have Bipolar I disorder typically experience alternating episodes of depression and mania where there is a separation of some level of normalcy in the sequence (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The Blue Planet has a very linear structure like the Burkitsville Seven (the beginning of the documentary is shallow and it ends up at the bottom of the ocean) but at the end they have a sub section demonstrating how the produced the documentary and proving its reality, this is a form of self reflexive filming. • 46. Tarantino s Pulp Fiction Pulp Fiction is a movie that almost everyone today has seen during it theater run or at home on DVD or Netflix. However, it can be a complicated movie to understand if one is only looking for a straight narrative. Pulp fiction seems to have multiple plots being told almost simultaneously creating an aura of confusion for the ones not paying close attention. Some will say it is about two hit men or a boxer, but actually there is no set story behind the film. The whole purpose of the film was to parody every type of film movement created. Tarantino s film included all types of film movement ever created; however, his film had no story. Maybe this was done to show that by applying some of the rules from each movement, a director can make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other aspects of the film such as mise en scene also make the film s meaning. Tarantino also used his film to define social themes, especially through the use of the mise en scene. Specifically, in the scene where the young Butch is about to receive his father s gold watch, he is watching a show that can be considered racist showing the upbringing and themes of the past. Another example, is when Jules and Vincent take Marvin s body to Jimmie s house. Jimmie s reaction is actually very surrealistic. In other words, the incident manages to rekindle the racial stereotypes that were lurking in Jimmie s subconscious. Jimmie says a swear word that can be offensive without even thinking twice about what he has said, especially in front of his African American friend, Jules. Normally, in most movies and real life situations this would not be tolerated and would cause an issue. Tarantino also makes many references to television shows throughout his film. This gives his film a Post Modernist style, however, it can also be used as a social commentary on the importance of television to modern day society. Additionally, Tarantino seems to have based his characters on different characters from the earlier styles of cinema. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. A Maori World In the context of a Maori world view the role of women is different from that of women in European culture; women played a key role in the collective of the whanau, hapu and iwi. There was no hierarchy of the sexes. This is exemplified in the Maori language, where both the possessive and personal pronouns are gender neutral. Mana wahine is a theoretical and methodological approach that explicitly examines the intersection of being Maori and female (Simmonds 11). Mana wahine isn t to be confused with Maori feminism, as this may confuse ideas with the Western concept of feminism. Key elements included in mana wahine are the concepts of whakapapa, wairua, and whanau (Hutchings 36). Many indigenous artists in Aotearoa New Zealand engage with mana wahine as inspiration, some with ties to decolonisation. These artists/designers use their work in reply to the dominant Pakeha culture and the history that is shared. Art/design that engages with mana wahine is often linked to decolonisation narratives the process by which the changes brought about under colonialism are undone. For mana wahine, it is a reclamation of indigenous narratives, like Maori women s narratives in cosmology. Audre Lorde wrote an essay for feminist postcolonial theory in which she muses that the women who stand outside of this society s definition of acceptable women have to use the differences and become strong from them (Lorde 26). The title of the essay is The Master s tools will never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
