Crime Victimization Essay
This is an important phenomenon to discuss because this is how the seed of the cultivation of fear is
planted. When people watch the news and see that every story or top headline is related to violence in
their city, it can be hard to convince people that the world may not be as violent as what it being
reported. It can be especially difficult to convince people that the world is not as violent as they
believe because the news is considered a reputable source of information.
News media viewing is assumed to produce many more example of crime victimization than thru
involvement. Gerbner and colleagues suggest that frequent viewing of television s representations of
often graphic examples of crime victimization. Thus, in looking at the relation ... Show more content

Mainstreaming takes into account the types of life experiences that people encounter will determine
how much influence the news has on their perceptions. If a person has never experienced some aspects
of life, then he would be forced to accept what he sees on television.
According to this aspect of the cultivation theory and the cultivation of fear, people who have not had
personal experiences with certain aspects of life, will be most influenced by the messages that are
being disseminated on the news. This makes sense because those people have no information to refute
or accept what is being reported to them.
Naturally, the news is expected to provide a true account of the happenings in the world.
Mainstreaming is the process in which people begin to accept the information and messages that is
being provided to the public as true. The reality that the news constructs becomes the standard to
which reality is compared. If the viewer is not familiar with inner city (as opposed to the suburbs) then
they begin to learn about the inner city through what is displayed in the media. This is one way the
news begins to have a significant impact on the viewer s perceptions of the

PMO Mission Statement
A vision statement is often broad, future looking, and acts as a strategic guiding tool for an
organization to strive for ultimate satisfaction of stakeholders. However, a mission statement is
alternatively more focused, looking to gain buy in for strategic purposes and culture building, an
internal stakeholder tool. A Project Management Office (PMO) should strive to ensure that
organizational goals align with both the mission and vision statement, helping them to easily identify
projects that are a good fit. Additionally, it is easier to unite a team when they are clear on the
objective from the start, and everyone is on the same page (Toledo, 2013).

To complete this mission, three goals have been identified which discuss leadership and coordination
of cross functional projects, continually enhancing guidelines and tools, and encouraging the adoption
of best practices (University of Iowa Health Care, 2012). Both formal and informal motivation
techniques reinforce a team s identity and enhance performance (Toledo, 2013). This PMO has
successfully identified how to reach the mission through these goals.
A generic healthcare PMO mission statement would be: Our PMO is persistently upgrading project
management practices to establish a level of trust among our stakeholders. It oversees the
administration to support quality, timeliness, and cost effectiveness through the use of strong
technology and methodologies, tailored to the client. Three goals toward accomplishing such a

The Three Key Elements Of Freud s Tripartite Personality...
Personality is the distinctive and relatively enduring way of thinking, feeling and acting that
characterises a person s responses to life situations. (O Brien 2011:103) The three key elements of
Freud s tripartite personality structure are the id, the ego and the superego. These three elements are
used in almost every decision a person makes on a day to day basis. The structure is mostly compared
to an ice berg with a small bit of the ego being above the water which would be the conscious and the
id and the superego being underneath the water and unconscious. The id and the superego are also
portrayed as the devil and the angel respectably. According to Zhu, (2012) his theory smashes the
rationalistic myth of human are rational animals through the reveal and emphasis of ego.
The first of the structures is the id. The part of the mind in which innate instinctive impulses and
primary processes are manifest: (oxford dictionary) we are born with the id in order to survive, it
develops in utero. It makes everything about itself and it is known as the pleasure principle . Its main

By simply refusing to believe something, the brain can process what is actually going on and then be
able to comprehend it better. One of the best examples of this is alcoholics denying the fact that they
have a problem. Alcohol has created or worsened the problems of the individual but yet they fail to
comprehend that. As stated by Allan, R, B (1997) One of the baffling characteristics of alcoholism is
that alcoholics (..) with life problems escalating, will deny the relationship between alcohol and their
problems. Another frequent example of denial is when a loved one dies the brain might deny that they
are dead and simply refuse to believe it as it may hurt the individual too

Justification in The Old and New Testaments Essays
When a man is justified before God, he is declared not guilty with reference to the sins he has
committed against God. Amazingly, God s not guilty verdict does not relate to just one crime, but to
every sin the justified man has ever committed or will commit. Paul declares that we have no penalty
to pay for sin, which includes past, present or future sins that we may commit. Those who have been
justified by faith, There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Rom.
8:1). Therefore, if we are justified there is no penalty to pay for sin and we are free to any charge of
guilt or condemnation. Douglas Moo writes it beautifully, Because we are justified by faith in

Abraham inherited his sinful nature through Adam, so he was sentenced to a physical and spiritual
death. Abraham was credited righteousness by being obedient to the Law of God.
In Genesis 6:8 it describes God and Noah s relationship, But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
In Hebrews 11:7 it states, By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in
reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and
became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. Noah was righteous through his faith. Noah
was not righteous by his works or obedience to God.
Paul quotes David as a blessing in Romans 4:6 8, just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one
to whom God counts righteousness apart from works: Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are
forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.
Paul introduces David as a example of righteousness by faith. Paul cites Ps. 32:1 2 to demonstrate that
David s righteousness was not based on his works. This demonstrates the idea of full forgiveness of
sins is prominent when Paul discusses justification by faith alone.
In Psalm 14:1 3 David says every person sins. Also, David states in

An Interpretation Of The Fourteenth Amendment
The 13th
*Provides us with an interpretation of the 13th amendment. 13th amendment basically abolished
slavery
*Conveys to us what the Prison Industrial Complex is is a term used to describe the overlapping
interests of government and industry that use surveillance, policing and imprisonment as solutions to
economic, social and political problems (http://www.prisonabolition.org/what is the prison industrial
complex/)
*Throughout the film DuVernay maps the journey of African Americans as they endured slavery,
segregation, then integration, and finally societal oppression; how they went from slavery to mass
incarceration.
She uses the aesthetics of sound, and lighting which are important contributors to the themes of
bondage and inequality. Slavery was our country s old economic system, therefore, when he 13th
amendment freed these people, how were they supposed to rebuild their economy. People who are
locked up in prison often provide the system with an extremely cheap source of labor. Furthermore,
those in prison are suavely people who come from poor or low income families. Yet, they are charged
high rates when talking to family members in prison. In some places, one must work and hour and a
half making minimum wage in order to have a simple 10 minute phone call with someone in prison.
Additionally, politicians throughout the 80 s and 90 s played a crucial role in the development of the

Suffering In Tolstoy s The Death Of Ivan Ilych
In the Death of Ivan Ilych you learn a lot about people. Ivan Ilych was an ordinary person; he had a
family, bridge set and plenty of friends. Yet when he becomes stricken with a terminal illness
everything seems to disappear. The only person that he finds comfort in toward the end of his life is
his butler. I believe that there are three themes that are more prevalent than the others. The first of
those themes is suffering, the second is modernization and the final theme is isolation. In Tolstoys
novella suffering is a major influence on the way that the novella ends. The one constant in The Death
of Ivan Ilych, is suffering. When Ilych gets a strange disease, his body slowly starts going to pieces
and physical pain replaces his pleasant life. The author uses Ivan s death to show how much suffering
has gone beyond the physical. Ivan suffers from fear, hopelessness, and a sense of ... Show more

Throughout the novella the doctors appear as arrogant and useless. By the end of the story s, it s pretty
clear that they have not given the dying Ivan Ilych any medical help. If anything, they ve only made
his situation worse. Through the experience of Ivan Ilych with his doctors, Tolstoy suggests that
modern medicine is a bad thing and is showing society s refusal to come to terms with death. Ivan
Ilych s experience of death in the Death of Ivan Ilych is progressed by a growing sense of isolation.
His suffering and fear of death have the effect of completely cutting him off from the world around
him. For his friends, colleagues, and family members, life goes on just as before. Ivan is dissapointed
when he discovers that none of them seem to understand or care about what he s experiencing. He has
to face his fears and agonies alone, without comfort from anyone except a servant, the one person who
pities him. Ivan Ilych finds solace from the person he never thought he would have, a butler of

Essay on Sophocles Antigone
Sophocles Antigone Theater played a large role in ancient Greek society. The citizens were meant to
learn from the mistakes made in tragedies. They should have learned what not to be like as a citizen or
human. In the classic tragedy Antigone, the third and final play in Sophocles¹s Oedipus Cycle, there
are two main characters, Antigone and Creon. They are both strong willed and stubborn people. By
their resistance to change, they both seal each others fate. Antigone is passionate... Creon is full of

Even when faced with Teresias¹s prophecy, he refuses to believe the truth. He claims that Tortuous has
been bribed, and that he ³sold out!² (227) He is finally forced to listen when Choragos reminds him of
Teresias¹s perfect record. Eventually he is persuaded to reverse his decision, persuaded that it is the
will of the gods, he gives Polyneices a proper burial, and is on his way to free Antigone, but it is too
late.
Creon and Antigone and they are both very strong in their views. Creon is devoted to his laws, while
Antigone is loyal to her beliefs. Creon refuses to give in and alter his law. He labels those who dare
act against him as traitors, and his justice is quick and cruel.
³This girl is guilty of a double insolence, Breaking the given laws and boasting of it. Who is the man

He is willing to kill his own family in the name of the law. Antigone is a traitor for giving a burial to
her dead brother Polyneices, but Ismene is sentenced as well, merely by association. He is so devoted
to his own laws that he fails to see that he is disobeying the law of the gods.
Antigone , however, puts the laws of the gods ahead of the laws of the state. She gives her brother a

Historical Conflict Between Palestine And Israel
On the 13th of September, 1993, a seldom moment between Israeli Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin and
Palestinian Liberation Organisation Chairman, Yasser Arafat marked a context in history. The Oslo
Peace Accords had been written and signed by the two leaders the newly found peace, marked with a
single handshake. Unfortunately, this ideal of a non violent and diplomatic future did not prevail. The
peace process between Palestine and Israel failed due to the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin,
subsequent to the handshake signalling the agreement. The continuity of this conflict initially caused
by sovereignty and ultranationalism, has resulted in a current inability for both Palestine and Israel to
come to terms with an agreeable, nonviolent, two state solution. The historical conflict between
Palestine and Israel, the significance of the handshake, reactions, Rabin s assassination and effects, as
well as the current situation between Palestine and Israel will be discussed in order to account for the
failure of the peace process.
Firstly, the historical conflict between Palestine and Israel is both complex and extensive. In 1882, the
Zionist movement sought to identify a place whereby Jewish people could create settlements. To the
Jewish, Palestine appeared as the most optimal and logical place as it holds the site of Jewish Origin
Jerusalem. During the diaspora of World War 2, an increase in Jewish migration to Palestine created
consciousness for the Palestinians. Preluding

Sovereign States must Take and Active Role in Global...
By simply interpreting the definition, middle powers are sovereign states that are not super powers or
great powers in the field of international relations, but still have moderate or significant influence than
small powers and have international recognition by other states. After the Second World War, global
society became starting to be aware of the fact that there was a need for middle powers, not so directly
engaged in global economics and politics, to act as intermediary in global governance. With rapid
globalization process among various sectors and many states, the global society has become more
interconnected and interdependent ever in terms of facing global problems as wells as regional ones.
Also with the current international relations, sovereign states as middle powers, they reflect the
tendency to compromise, coordinate, and cooperate in order to maintain their national interests, status
quo Jeffrey Robertson, South Korea as a Middle Power: capacity, Behavior, and Now Opportunity,

days, and as middle powers they would try to find their voice in international community. This paper
is to examine how middle powers play in current global governance, based on middle power theories.

Latino Culture Vs American Culture
For the past three years I have been learning about industry and underserved communities; the
political framework of organizations; and cultural differences between Latinos and Americans. The
purpose of this is to create social change at the systemic level to transform communities.
When learning about the US UK Fulbright Commission, the program was described as an exchange of
cultures to better the relations between the two nations. My initial intention for the US UK Fulbright
Commission was to expand my limited knowledge of the UK and to nurture the relationship between
the two global powers as an ambassador of the US. That changed during a presentation where I
learned about the Wales Summer Institute. Learning about the industry, politics, history, and culture of
another country would provide me with contrast to the structure and dynamics of the US.
When looking at the two countries geographically, Wales and the US are almost two extremes when it
comes to urbanization. One country is a leader in industrialization, the other far less. This is of great
interest to me because from my experience, rural areas are closer to nature than their ... Show more

Analysis Of A Flower Garden By Li Bai
This poem creates a scene in which the poet, Li Bai is sitting alone under the moonlight as he sips on
his drink and can share his loneliness with no one but the moon and his shadow. By pointing out that
he is at a flower garden with moonlight shined upon him and a pot of wine by his side, the setting of
the poem is rather pleasant and relaxing. The poet, however, appears to be frustrated because he has
no real friends who are there for him. With a quick thought, Li Bai decides to think the moon and his
shadow as his companion and meanwhile starts to sing and dance with them. The fact that neither the
moon nor his shadow is animated does not bother Li Bai as he slowly gets more involved in the
atmosphere he created for himself, or, in his words, it makes us [them] three . From there on, the poet
does not care about what other people think of him anymore and instead starts to live his life the way
that will not leave behind any regrets. In order to achieve such impression and create an image for the
readers, Li Bai incorporates myriad rhetorical devices in the writing of the poem. Out of all techniques
being used, imagery is one that appears throughout the poem. The poem opens up with an image of a
flower garden a which indicates the poet s location and sets the tone for the slight twist in emotion in
next couple of lines of the poem. The poet s mentioning of his loneliness sharply contrasts the setting
in which both wine and flowers are supposed to bring a sense of prosperity and happiness. Moving on,
the fourth and fifth lines express Li Bai s loneliness by creating an image of the faraway moon and his
shadow. The line states that the moon is too far away to enjoy the wine with Li Bai, and his shadow
cannot communicate with or truly comprehend the poet. Li Bai s use of the phrase creeps about my
heels to describe the behavior of his shadow is interesting thoughtful, showing that even though the
shadow is very close to him in distance, Li Bai feels as if all the shadow does is blindly following him.

of China because of his unwillingness to sacrifice his entire life for the Royals monetary

Equine-Assited Therapy
The Helsinki Olympics, 1952. Liz Hartel won a silver medal in equestrian sports and told the world
how riding had helped her recover from polio ( History ). Therapeutic riding is a term that has been
used to encompass the variety of equine activities for individuals with disabilities, but the correct
terminology for utilizing the movement of the horse as a treatment strategy to improve neuromuscular
function is hippotherapy, meaning treatment with the help of the horse from the Greek word, hippos ,
meaning horse ( Hippotherapy ). Equine assisted therapy is a positive and successful form of therapy
for individuals with disabilities because it boosts confidence and allows for improvement in physical
and occupational capabilities. Studies show that hippotherapy has proven to be beneficial for
individuals with a variety of disabilities. Learning to master the horse increases the rider s self esteem

How Does Equity Fulfil the Common Law
How Does Equity Fulfill the Common Law Common Law Equity fulfils the common law, although it
does not endeavour to displace it with a moral code. In order to be influential, the law is to be
professed as both certain and predictable, and also flexible and fair. Specifically, it needs clear rules on
the one hand, but flexibility on the other to produce exceptions to cases that lead to apparently
incongruous or unjust conclusions if the rules are applied rigidly. Equity is an essence of principles,
doctrines, and rules advanced initially by the Court of Chancery in positive competition with the rules,
doctrines and principles of the Common Law Courts. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remedies represent some interesting illustrations of the difference between law and equity; a
difference which arose as; an accident of history, according to Lord Nicholls in A G v Blake.
Ordinarily legal rights and remedies remain separate from equitable ones. Some similarities do,
nevertheless, occur. For illustration, an injunction, an equitable remedy, can be sought for an
anticipatory breach of contract, or to stop a nuisance, both common law claims. In A G v Blake, the
House of Lords authorized the equitable remedy of account of profits for an assertion for violation of
contract where the common law remedy of damages would have been insufficient. The equitable
remedy of account of profits is usually accessible where there is a fiduciary relationship but the House
of Lords endorsed its request otherwise in exceptional cases where it was the operative way to remedy
a wrong. By distinction, in Seager v Copydex, proceedings were brought for breach of confidence in
regard for confidential information exposed by the defendants about a carpet grip. Such a claim is
equitable and normally the equitable remedies of injunction and account are obtainable. On the other
hand, an injunction would have been unsuccessful and he judges awarded damages. It would appear,
consequently that a common law remedy is

Why Am I Here
Why are You Here? I have fallen short in many ways towards the goals that I have made in my life.
No matter how high the standard is set, and whether failure awaits me, perseverance and my faith will
carry me on. Some would label me as a dreamer. Someone could say I have reality to face, but without
dreams we have no hope, and without hope we have nothing inside of us to fuel our deep passion to
succeed and win the race that we have been running. Everyone has his own opinion about college and
how important it is, but only a few will take the initiative to follow through and back what they stand

they expect in the ordinance branch. So far, this has been an amazing experience, and I am proud of
being a small part of the big picture. With that said, I am here for one reason and one reason only. I no
longer have my parents direction, or have someone showing me what is right, and I would be wrong in
making my time here meaningless. Many of my peers would say this is one big party and that they are
here for the girls and the cheap beer, but if I wanted to party, I wouldn t have chosen to pay so much
for one. I think it would be ridiculous of me to waste a perfectly good opportunity to become the man
that I was made to be. My past was unbalanced and reckless, and it would be easy for me to fall back
into my old ways, so it would be wise of me to stay focused while I am here. My life was very
structured and it drove me to want something different, but when I had to face my consequences, I
soon came to want exactly what I was running from. Ironically enough, I am beginning to see what

Mexico Research Paper
Mexico is a large country that was reborn as a result of the European colonization of the Americas.
Although colonial influence largely reshaped Mexico, its Native American roots have remained a
prominent element of its culture. Mexico s history marks the origin of several advanced Amerindian
civilizations, including the Olmec, Toltec, Teotihuacan, Zapotec, Maya, and Aztec (cia.gov). It was
conquered and colonized by Spain in the early 16th century, and administered as the Viceroyalty of
New Spain for three centuries. After 300 years of Spanish rule; Mexico achieved independence early
in the 19th century (history.com, 2017).

Key Cultural Elements
The large majority of Mexico s population consists of mestizos , an ethnicity consisting in the mix of
European and Amerindian populations. The mestizo population quickly replaced the native
Amerindians during, and following the years of the Spanish colonization, largely due in part to the
mass casualties the natives suffered during Spain s occupation. Today, Mexico s ethnic groups are
estimated to be: 62% mestizo (Amerindian Spanish), 21% predominantly Amerindian natives, 7%
Amerindians, and 10% other (mostly European), according to a census published in 2012 (cia.gov).
Most of the population in Mexico can be found congregating on its bigger cities, particularly the ones
found in the middle of the country between the states of Jalisco and Veracruz. Additionally; an
estimate of a quarter of the population lives in and around Mexico City.
The colonization also established Catholicism as the mandatory religion of the newly acquired
Spanish territory. The Spanish Inquisitions aggressive action against what they considered to be
heathen beliefs, effectively eradicated the indigenous religions. Today, Catholicism

Chief Justice Earl Warren s Justice
Chief Justice Earl Warren accomplished a great deal before finally being appointed as the Chief
Justice. He was elected as the Governor of California, and served three consecutive terms of office. In
his early years he was the District Attorney in California and also served as the Attorney General of
California. In his time as a District Attorney Warren earned himself a reputation for being tough on
crime, he soon gained a statewide reputation as a tough, no nonsense district attorney who fought
corruption in government. Chief Justice Earl Warren was appointed by president Dwight D.
Eisenhower in 1953 after Warren lost to Eisenhower and Richard Nixon in the election. Earl Warren
was a right wing republican but ended up being more liberal on the Supreme Court than anyone had
every expected. He presided over some very significant cases that will be discussed below. The three
that will be discussed, perhaps the most important, are Brown V. Board of Education in 1954, Gideon
V. Wainwright in 1963, and Miranda V. Arizona in 1966. Now don t be misled, Chief Justice Earl

Literary Analysis Of The Fall Of A City By Alden Nowlan
Alden Nowlan s story called The Fall of a City discusses the central theme of how life circumstances
are beyond human control in most of the cases. This theme is applied to the specific idea of coming of
age through the story of the main character. Teddy is an eleven year old boy who lives with his uncles.
Teddy spends the afternoons playing in the attic and creating a paper world: the kingdom of Upalia.
The uncle and the aunt are suspicious about what the child is doing up there, and after discovering it,
they mock his nephew s behavior. Teddy becomes angry with himself and destroys the paper city. The
story contains multiple literary techniques which show to the reader the opposition or rejection

They supported our country s war efforts not only in traditional roles, but also in unprecedented new

heard and express their thoughts. During World War 1, women roll up their sleeves and took a wide

They were faced with the reality that they had to maintain the family farm themselves, as well as raise
the children, while the husbands, sons and hired laborers were off at war. With their sons overseas,
many farm women had to take on extra work. One Alberta mother of nine sons all of them either in the
army or away working in factories drove the tractor, plowed the fields, put up hay, and hauled grain to
elevators, along with tending her garden, raising chickens, pigs and turkeys, and canning hundreds of
jars of fruits and vegetables. There was no uniform for the farmerettes, but the young women who
volunteered their services learned to wear loose fitting dressings to accommodate the heavy labor
involved in working the land and broad brimmed hats to protect against the sun. In 1918, 2,400
women served as farmerettes and assisted fruit farmers in the Niagara region. Many farm workers
enlisted in the army, and if Canada was going to produce enough food, labourers had to be found.
Farm work, promoted as a paying job, infact became a drain on the financial resources of many
women the pay was usually $4 a week. Many men left their civilian jobs to fight for their country
during the First World War. These jobs needed to be filled and women quickly stepped forward to

Learning Methods For Successful Classroom Management Essay
Some methods I might use for good classroom management This paper sheds light on some dynamic
learning methods for successful classroom management. The classroom management had the largest
effect on students achievement. This means students cannot learn in poorly managed classrooms.
Some studies shows the importance of classroom managements of there being building a relationship
between teachers and students. Teachers should take into their consideration classroom management
and student achievement are related to each which led to outcomes. All teachers must consider
classroom management to be a high priority and an area of concern. When teachers come to master an
effective classroom management, it takes time to establish it in the beginning of the year particularly
on the first day of school. Classroom management demands student achievement, time, study area,
teaching methods, and feedback .Effective classroom management depends on classroom
management, classroom organization, and expectations for student behavior.
Firstly, Classroom management is the strategies and techniques that an effective teacher uses in order
to solve problems in the classroom. Effective teacher should use rules, procedures, and routines to
ensure students involved in the learning process. By using classroom rules, teachers offer clear
instructions to students and pose a plan to orient new students. They use some rules because they want

Sherman s strategy
Bristol Myers Squibb s deceptive practices were likely to catch up to them. This occurred when they
crossed paths with Sherman who led Apotex at the time. After everything settled Sherman
acknowledged in an interview that he knew the FTC would reject the proposed agreements made by
Bristol Myers Squibb and Sanofi. He also recognized that their spokesman didn t realize his offer
would cause adverse action against Bristol Myers Squibb (Baron, 2010). He played to their ignorance
and entered the agreement. There is no direct answer to the ethics of Sherman s strategy. He did not
actively participate or even condone Brisol Myers Squibb s collusion; in fact he knew the agreement
would be rejected. There is no way of truly knowing whether Sherman acted with malice when
implementing his strategy.
Should the FTC and the state attorneys general have rejected the agreements? The FTC and state

anti competitive practice. The second agreement would have been rejected as well provided Bristol

Metaphors In Dante s Inferno
Dante Alighieri was one of the most inspiring Italian poets in the middle ages. One of his greatest
writings is about the afterlife, from the depths of Hell in his own made Inferno, into the mountains of
Purgatory and in the ever lasting spirits of Heaven called the Paradiso. But my main focus on this
essay is what in Dante s life inspired him to write like he did, particularly his Inferno. Questions and
history may lead us to believe that was it was his love, war or political view that shaped him as an
artist. There is a gap in his history with some unknowns for the simplest things like what was his birth
date. But some metaphors from his Divine Comedy may answer these questions.

Florence at this time being a loathed, despised, derogated community with corruption and discard,
Dante Alighieri lived most of his days working on his writings that will last hundreds of years. Church

Dante was part of the White Guelphs and fought in war of his cause but with seeing life and death in

How Has Chivalry Changed In The Middle Ages
The act of chivalry has changed dramatically since the middle ages and since The Canterbury Tales
was written. In The Knight s Tale , Chaucer writes about the quest for love between two men who are
in love with the same woman. This quest ends in death for one man and love for the other man.
Chivalry in the middle ages included Knights that were expected to be warriors and attendants to the
King. Knights were expected to fight to the death for love and then represent the kingdom because of
their good deeds. Modern chivalry has changed radically from knightly tasks to gentlemanly acts
towards women. Today men are expected to be polite and respectful towards not only women they are
interested in but to everyone they encounter. Chivalry has become less extreme and therefore less
prevalent in today s society but it is still present in some cases. ... Show more content on

The Subsidence Levels Of Land Renewal Performed By Marshes
reach pre subsidence levels in 60 years. To put this in more manageable terms, the rate of land renewal
performed by marshes has the capacity to significantly alter the landscape in subsidized areas in less
than the span of a human life. A few caveats to this approach include the use of the land as a marsh.
Since the land is turned into a marsh, the land cannot be used for agriculture or for human
development such as buildings or transportation infrastructure. This serves as a major social
drawback, as the human population continues to expand, people need land for living space and arable
land for farming purposes. In addition, as the marsh deposits more peat material, there is a chance that
the weight of the material being formed in the marsh will eventually cause primary subsidence in the
material below it. This would effectively reduce the rate of land renewal and could increase the
amount of time required to raise the elevation of a given plot of land to pre subsidence levels. Also
since the peat produced from the test marshes is similar to the existing peat there is a great possibility
that the cycle may repeat itself. After a marsh has been used to raise the elevation of the land, the
opportunity to cause subsidence in the new organic material would still exist. For these reasons, the
use of marshes to counteract subsistence of marshland is not the best solution, but a solution
nonetheless.

The aluminum (specifically Al3+) targets the roots of the plants and causes stunted plant growth and

Persuasive Essay On Conversion Therapy
Conversion therapy, also known as reparative therapy, or Sexual Orientation Change Efforts (SOCE)
has a troubled history within the United States and abroad. Conversion therapy is the use of a variety
of means to attempt to change an individual s sexual or gender orientation. Current practices include
inducing vomiting or paralysis while showing a subject homoerotic images, having a subject snap a
rubber band on their wrist whenever they have certain thoughts, or using tactics to create shame or
aversion to same sex or transgender thoughts. Many established institutes claim that the therapy does
or doesn t work and offer contradicting evidence for their position. The Movement Advancement

infographic that nine states, plus the District of Columbia and a handful of municipalities have banned
conversion therapy from being provided by licensed medical professionals to minors ( Kids 1). Based
on the established evidence and the overwhelming number of psychologists and sociologist that
disavow conversion therapy, along with the multitude of horror stories from children who were
persuaded, or forced, to participate by their parents, the federal government should ban conversion
therapy for all minors.

Similarities Between King Jr And Malcolm X
The King Stands Tall The black civil rights movement struggle of the 1960s was a long and sometimes
bloody battle for the rights of African Americans to be recognized as equal to their white counterparts.
The civil rights movement had many organizations that were led by prominent figures whose methods
in fighting for their rights differed. Amongst the most famous and successful contributors are Martin
Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. This paper will examine these two individuals methods and determine
which of their approaches was the most effective towards gaining equality.
Malcolm X was a civil rights leader who advocated for the use of violence when it came to fighting

Martin grew up in a middle class family which upheld Christian values. The fairly peaceful
environment and Christian values which advocate for turning the other cheek meant that King had the
mind of a nonviolent person, and this was demonstrated throughout his life. For example, when his
house was bombed he did not react violently but instead called for empathy and understanding for the
perpetrators of these actions towards him and other people from the African American community.[1]
Occasionally, one develops a conviction so precious and meaningful that he will stand on it till the

So which of the above leaders and methods had the greatest impact in the push for equal rights for
African Americans? Although Malcolm X had a great influence on the outcome of the civil rights
movement, he later renounced his violent ways after a visit to the Middle East and started advocating
for nonviolent activism. Even though he had argued against King s nonviolent methods, he was finally

learn good writing techniques that appeal to readers. Every type of writing should possess something
that will draw the reader into the words to make the reader feel that he can relate to what he reads.
Many techniques can accomplish this goal of writing. Diction, organization, description, and titles are
all key parts of an essay that combine the author s thoughts and teelings in an effective manner.

She does this by using examples from the past to back her main ideas. In the essay, Unlikely Learning,
Mary Kemmerer uses chronological order to explain how she passes her day in school. Danielle
Trasciatti s essay, Blue Band Emotional High uses some spacial organization although the primary
development is chronological. The author uses smaller, minor points to support the main idea.
Through the use of these forms of arrangement, the authors effectively expressed their points in a very
clear and discemible manner.
Another aspect that makes writing good is description. Description not only makes reading more
enjoyable, but helps the reader feel as if he or she is involved in what is going on in the essay. It also
adds life and reality to the writing. One essay that uses good description is Blue Band Emotional High.
Danielle Trasciatti uses description to paint a mental picture and helps the reader feel part of the

Foreign Direct Investment Inflows Help Countries Improve...
There is a long standing belief that foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows help the countries to have
the opportunity to make further improvements on their economies. In recent decade, this belief
strengthened by the fact that faster growing economies tend to attract more FDIs. Even if the direction
of causality between FDI and growth is not absolute yet, positive impacts of FDI such as new
technology, know how or creating employment are enough attractive for policymakers. Consequently,
investigating factors that pull FDI into country became a crucial topic in the literature. One of the
most significant factors of FDI inflows is trade openness. The term trade openness refers to the degree,
of which an economy allows to conduct trade transitions with other economies (Skouloudakis et al.,
2013;12). The degree of a country s openness can influence FDI in various ways. For instance, with
high degree of trade openness and low trade costs, multinational enterprises (MNE) can prefer export
rather than FDI. Therefore, trade openness can negatively affect FDI inflows. On the other hand,
higher degree of trade openness implies lower costs adding to the total cost of a product and less trade
restrictions. MNEs want to take advantage of the low cost of natural factor endowments (labor,
capital, technology). Thus, trade openness can positively affect FDI inflows (Seim, 2009; 5).
Therefore, the evidence of trade openness as a determinant of FDI is controversial in literature.

The Many Identities of Hamlet in Hamlet by William...
The Many Identities of Hamlet in Hamlet by William Shakespeare
In the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, the protagonist, Price Hamlet, uses several ways to
defend himself against his oedipal desires, his animosity towards his uncle, as well as his own inner
conflict . Hamlet s hatred towards Claudius stems from two crimes committed; Claudius murder of his
brother and his incest with Hamlet s mother. Because of the seriousness of both crimes, as well as the
fact that both persons affected are closely related, there is evidence of an interrelation between both of
the crimes; which can further explains Hamlet s reaction. Following his father, King Hamlet s death,
his mother, Gertrude proceeds to marry his Uncle Claudius; this causes ... Show more content on

Furthermore, the idea of sexuality being connected with Hamlet s mother can be seen in comparison to
Hamlet s association between Ophelia and erotic desire. In essence, Hamlet is reverting to a more
infantile mind frame when associating Gertrude with Ophelia, subconsciously trying to defend himself
against his unresolved Oedipal desires towards his mother. However, when King Hamlet dies and
Gertrude remarries, Hamlet s repulsion of his mother is transmitted to Ophelia, causing Hamlet to
completely reject her.
Hamlet s oedipal desires for his mother, Gertrude, emerge following his father s death. However,
contrary to the natural course of the Oedipus Complex, where Hamlet would replace his father,
Gertrude marries another man; namely, his Uncle Claudius. In this respect, Claudius now not only
represents Hamlet s object of vengeance, but represents Hamlet, himself. The familial image of his
father s own brother being intimate with his mother reflects Hamlet s own incestuous desires as well;
this can be seen as the root of Hamlet s inner conflict. By killing his Uncle, he would be
subconsciously killing himself as well. For this reason, Hamlet has extreme difficulty carrying out the
murder of his uncle. Throughout the play Hamlet searches for excuses to procrastinate the deed of
killing his father s murderer. His use of cowardice, doubt of his uncle s guilt and even the

  • 2. Crime Victimization Essay This is an important phenomenon to discuss because this is how the seed of the cultivation of fear is planted. When people watch the news and see that every story or top headline is related to violence in their city, it can be hard to convince people that the world may not be as violent as what it being reported. It can be especially difficult to convince people that the world is not as violent as they believe because the news is considered a reputable source of information. According to this aspect of the cultivation theory and the cultivation of fear, people who have not had personal experiences with certain aspects of life, will be most influenced by the messages that are being disseminated on the news. Mainstreaming is the process in which people begin to accept the information and messages that is being provided to the public as true. The reality that the news constructs becomes the standard to which reality is compared. If the viewer is not familiar with inner city (as opposed to the suburbs) then they begin to learn about the inner city through what is displayed in the media. This is one way the news begins to have a significant impact on the viewer s perceptions of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, a mission statement is alternatively more focused, looking to gain buy in for strategic purposes and culture building, an internal stakeholder tool. A Project Management Office (PMO) should strive to ensure that organizational goals align with both the mission and vision statement, helping them to easily identify projects that are a good fit. Additionally, it is easier to unite a team when they are clear on the objective from the start, and everyone is on the same page (Toledo, 2013). To complete this mission, three goals have been identified which discuss leadership and coordination of cross functional projects, continually enhancing guidelines and tools, and encouraging the adoption of best practices (University of Iowa Health Care, 2012). Personality is the distinctive and relatively enduring way of thinking, feeling and acting that characterises a person s responses to life situations. (O Brien 2011:103) The three key elements of Freud s tripartite personality structure are the id, the ego and the superego. These three elements are used in almost every decision a person makes on a day to day basis. The structure is mostly compared to an ice berg with a small bit of the ego being above the water which would be the conscious and the id and the superego being underneath the water and unconscious. The id and the superego are also portrayed as the devil and the angel respectably. According to Zhu, (2012) his theory smashes the rationalistic myth of human are rational animals through the reveal and emphasis of ego. The first of the structures is the id. Amazingly, God s not guilty verdict does not relate to just one crime, but to every sin the justified man has ever committed or will commit. Paul declares that we have no penalty to pay for sin, which includes past, present or future sins that we may commit. Those who have been justified by faith, There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Rom. 8:1). In Hebrews 11:7 it states, By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. Noah was righteous through his faith. Noah was not righteous by his works or obedience to God. Paul quotes David as a blessing in Romans 4:6 8, just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works: Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin. Paul introduces David as a example of righteousness by faith. Paul cites Ps. 32:1 2 to demonstrate that David s righteousness was not based on his works. • 15. Analysis Of A Flower Garden By Li Bai This poem creates a scene in which the poet, Li Bai is sitting alone under the moonlight as he sips on his drink and can share his loneliness with no one but the moon and his shadow. By pointing out that he is at a flower garden with moonlight shined upon him and a pot of wine by his side, the setting of the poem is rather pleasant and relaxing. The poet, however, appears to be frustrated because he has no real friends who are there for him. With a quick thought, Li Bai decides to think the moon and his shadow as his companion and meanwhile starts to sing and dance with them. The fact that neither the moon nor his shadow is animated does not bother Li Bai as he slowly gets more involved in the atmosphere he created for himself, or, in his words, it makes us [them] three . From there on, the poet does not care about what other people think of him anymore and instead starts to live his life the way that will not leave behind any regrets. In order to achieve such impression and create an image for the readers, Li Bai incorporates myriad rhetorical devices in the writing of the poem. Out of all techniques being used, imagery is one that appears throughout the poem. The poem opens up with an image of a flower garden a which indicates the poet s location and sets the tone for the slight twist in emotion in next couple of lines of the poem. The poet s mentioning of his loneliness sharply contrasts the setting in which both wine and flowers are supposed to bring a sense of prosperity and happiness. Moving on, the fourth and fifth lines express Li Bai s loneliness by creating an image of the faraway moon and his shadow. The line states that the moon is too far away to enjoy the wine with Li Bai, and his shadow cannot communicate with or truly comprehend the poet. Li Bai s use of the phrase creeps about my heels to describe the behavior of his shadow is interesting thoughtful, showing that even though the shadow is very close to him in distance, Li Bai feels as if all the shadow does is blindly following him. Key Cultural Elements The large majority of Mexico s population consists of mestizos , an ethnicity consisting in the mix of European and Amerindian populations. The mestizo population quickly replaced the native Amerindians during, and following the years of the Spanish colonization, largely due in part to the mass casualties the natives suffered during Spain s occupation. Today, Mexico s ethnic groups are estimated to be: 62% mestizo (Amerindian Spanish), 21% predominantly Amerindian natives, 7% Amerindians, and 10% other (mostly European), according to a census published in 2012 (cia.gov). Most of the population in Mexico can be found congregating on its bigger cities, particularly the ones found in the middle of the country between the states of Jalisco and Veracruz. There was no uniform for the farmerettes, but the young women who volunteered their services learned to wear loose fitting dressings to accommodate the heavy labor involved in working the land and broad brimmed hats to protect against the sun. Chivalry in the middle ages included Knights that were expected to be warriors and attendants to the King. Knights were expected to fight to the death for love and then represent the kingdom because of their good deeds. Modern chivalry has changed radically from knightly tasks to gentlemanly acts towards women. • 34. The Subsidence Levels Of Land Renewal Performed By Marshes reach pre subsidence levels in 60 years. To put this in more manageable terms, the rate of land renewal performed by marshes has the capacity to significantly alter the landscape in subsidized areas in less than the span of a human life. A few caveats to this approach include the use of the land as a marsh. Since the land is turned into a marsh, the land cannot be used for agriculture or for human development such as buildings or transportation infrastructure. This serves as a major social drawback, as the human population continues to expand, people need land for living space and arable land for farming purposes. In addition, as the marsh deposits more peat material, there is a chance that the weight of the material being formed in the marsh will eventually cause primary subsidence in the material below it. This would effectively reduce the rate of land renewal and could increase the amount of time required to raise the elevation of a given plot of land to pre subsidence levels. Also since the peat produced from the test marshes is similar to the existing peat there is a great possibility that the cycle may repeat itself. After a marsh has been used to raise the elevation of the land, the opportunity to cause subsidence in the new organic material would still exist. For these reasons, the use of marshes to counteract subsistence of marshland is not the best solution, but a solution nonetheless. There is a long standing belief that foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows help the countries to have the opportunity to make further improvements on their economies. In recent decade, this belief strengthened by the fact that faster growing economies tend to attract more FDIs. Even if the direction of causality between FDI and growth is not absolute yet, positive impacts of FDI such as new technology, know how or creating employment are enough attractive for policymakers. Consequently, investigating factors that pull FDI into country became a crucial topic in the literature. One of the most significant factors of FDI inflows is trade openness. The term trade openness refers to the degree, of which an economy allows to conduct trade transitions with other economies (Skouloudakis et al., 2013;12). The degree of a country s openness can influence FDI in various ways. For instance, with high degree of trade openness and low trade costs, multinational enterprises (MNE) can prefer export rather than FDI. Therefore, trade openness can negatively affect FDI inflows. On the other hand, higher degree of trade openness implies lower costs adding to the total cost of a product and less trade restrictions. MNEs want to take advantage of the low cost of natural factor endowments (labor, capital, technology). Thus, trade openness can positively affect FDI inflows (Seim, 2009; 5). Therefore, the evidence of trade openness as a determinant of FDI is controversial in literature. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Furthermore, the idea of sexuality being connected with Hamlet s mother can be seen in comparison to Hamlet s association between Ophelia and erotic desire. In essence, Hamlet is reverting to a more infantile mind frame when associating Gertrude with Ophelia, subconsciously trying to defend himself against his unresolved Oedipal desires towards his mother. However, when King Hamlet dies and Gertrude remarries, Hamlet s repulsion of his mother is transmitted to Ophelia, causing Hamlet to completely reject her. Hamlet s oedipal desires for his mother, Gertrude, emerge following his father s death. However, contrary to the natural course of the Oedipus Complex, where Hamlet would replace his father, Gertrude marries another man; namely, his Uncle Claudius. In this respect, Claudius now not only represents Hamlet s object of vengeance, but represents Hamlet, himself. The familial image of his father s own brother being intimate with his mother reflects Hamlet s own incestuous desires as well; this can be seen as the root of Hamlet s inner conflict.
