Personnel Economics Application Paper
Personnel Economics Application Paper
Tournament is a kind of reward system where fixed rewards are used for a fixed group of people and
the distribution of rewards is based on the order of the participants performance (Lazear amp; Oyer,
2009, p. 9). In this particular situation, four agents in one of Mitch amp; Murray s offices are given a
strong incentive to succeed in a sales tournament. Mitch amp; Murray uses a set of prizes that
diminish in value as a person s relative performance gets lower. The top seller will win himself a
Cadillac, the second will win himself a set of steak knives, and the others will be out of job (Glengarry
Glen Ross, n.d.). In response to the given prizes, four agents react in different ways.

The good leads are locked in the office manager s room and they will not be distributed until the end
of the contest. (Glengarry Glen Ross, n.d.). After he realizes that no matter how hard he work, his
sales performance will barely improve, he becomes desperate. At that point, the cost of effort for him
is too high which makes the prize unachievable, and thus provides no incentive for him to exert effort
anymore. With those old leads, luck becomes relatively more important to the final success and effort
relatively less important. In such case, workers will try less hard to win because effort has a smaller
effect on whether or not they win (Lazear amp; Oyer, 2009, p. 10). This is why he soon gives up
working on the old leads but to flatter, threaten, and bribe the office manager to get good leads which
can reduce the cost of his effort and diminish the importance of luck. However, the result is quite
unexpected His attempt to get good leads does not work out so he finally helps Dave to steal and sell
the good leads to another company. This result may not be explained by tournament theory but can be
explained by economic theories Homo economicus all want to maximize their own profit or utility at
the lowest cost (Homo economicus, n.d.). Stealing and selling the leads may be a risky move but the
profit it brings to Shelly exceeds the risk plus the profit he may gain from working on the old leads,
and that

Death In Dulce Et Decorum Est
The presence of death plays a huge factor in the war and impart, factors into Wilfred Owen s poem,
Dulce et Decorum Est , aiding him criticizing the war effort as unnecessary and unjust. Tyrus Miller
analyzed the poem and found, Death and human suffering, on a purely physical plane, are abundant
throughout the poem (Miller). Miller saw Owen included an abundance of death and suffering
throughout the poem to send a shock to and force the reader to feel uncomfortable reading the poem.
Throughout the duration of the war, it still received mass support from the citizens of the countries
involved, but Owen feared they did not know the amount of casualties that occurred. The war was

Miller examined the poem further to find Owen s message to the reader, claiming, In the final stanza,
the poem once again shifts, now from the poet s dream to his address to a reader, presumed to be a
person on the homefront who has experienced nothing of the horror of war and who still believes that
war is glorious and ennobling (Miller). In agreement with the statement of Owen aiming to dissuade
the british population from running into the war blindly, Miller refers to Owen s audience and how he
set the poem out as a warning and message of what war truly consists of. Owen writes in an unsettling
form and structure, fluctuating the poem to be slow and fast, contributing to make the reader who
never experienced the hardships of war, and trying to shepherd them away from their pro war
mentality. Analyzing the poem, Miller explains, Although he cannot literally bring this haunting about,
through his poem and its grotesque details, he can force his reader to confront the ugly reality of war
that masks behind fine phrases and edifying sentiments. Thus, Owen lingers over the sounds and sight
of the dying body, destroyed by the poisonous gas, (Miller) he wants the reader to know Owen did not
shy away from detail and wanted to discomfort his reader. The poem

Implications For International Banking Of Adopting The...
What are the implications for international banking of adopting the proposed Basle 3 regulations?
Overall impacts Focus on Capital requirement Positive: Improve the standard of capital ratio:
According to Basel 3, Capital requirement includes 4 different ratios: Common equity Tier 1 capital
ratio =(Common equity Tier 1 capital)/( risk weighted assets) Tier 1 capital ratio =(Total Tier 1
capital)/( risk weighted assets) Total capital ratio =( Tier 1 capital+ Tier 2 capital)/( risk weighted
assets) Capital conservation buffer
Comparing to Basel 2 , the Basel 3 requirement of common equity Tier 1 capital ratio has risen up to
4.5%, which is 2.5% larger than before. Also , Tier 1 capital ratio increased to 6% under Basel 3
regulation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[1] Redesign the definition of capital
Bank regulation has made a more specific definition of Core Tier 1 Capital , which includes general
risk preparation , Capital reserve , paid in capital and so on . Second , To avoid default , using the gone
concern capital to ensure the repayment of funding and debt . The Core Tier 1 Capital should include a
part of shareholders funds and premium from other partners . The Core Tier 2 Capital should include
loan loss provision that has overdrawn and core 2 capital and its premium .
Negative :
The risk weighted assets will increase sharply since Basel 3 has increased the capital adequacy ratio of
the banks to defend against the operational crisis in the future . Also , Basel 3 updated the standard of
the main factor of Tier 1 as well as Tier two capital whose baseline has raised from 4% to 6% .
Although transition period of carrying out Basel 3 regulation is long , the banks with lower capital
adequacy ratio might suffer from the huge pressure of supplying sufficient capital .
Recent years , in order to reach the baseline , banks have to finance billions of dollars . A bank should
finance 30 billion dollars with 5% capital adequacy ratio , but if the ratio raised up to 7% , it might
need finance 57 billion dollars .[2] Due to accounting data from United bank of Switzerland in 2010 ,
Basel 3 regulation required 400 billion CHF risk weighted asset of United bank of Switzerland twice
than it was under Basel 2 ,

Examine your map. Describe the distribution of countries supplying food products to Markham. Do
you notice any trends or patterns related to location and type of food?
Many countries have foods similar to what we produce in markham, some patterns are some countries
have food that would be produced in other countries. Also the warmer countries have usually have
more types of food supplied to markham s grocery stores because crops grow better in warmer
temperatures.
b. How does Markham s demographic profile contribute to the types of products imported from other
countries? Consider immigration, cultural/ethnic diversity,
Etc.
It shows that we are multicultural with having different types of foods from different cultures like
having a variety of foods that we can try from other cultures. This also shows that we are very diverse
and that people who immigrated here from other countries also have food from their background.
However I was surprised by a few types of foods like daikon which was produced in the Usa and I
thought it would be a country more near the equator. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why are these products unable to be grown/produced in
Markham/Ontario/Canada? Consider physical aspects of Canada including topography, climate, soils,
urbanization, etc.
This is because Markham/canada is a colder country than others and it is harder for crops to grow
during the season besides summer, while in other countries it is much more warmer and they can grow
these types of foods easier. For example in South Africa its a warmer country which is near the
equator which means crops can grow much faster than other countries further away from the equator.
Also food can grow depending on the soil condition in these types of countries are usually more
healthier soil and countries that grow lots of food usually have tons of land to grow

Why Is Florence Nightingale Important
Florence Nightingale is known as not only one of the most important women of all time, but as one of
the most influential people in health history. She is known for her work in nursing and for establishing
modern nursing. Florence Nightingale dedicated herself to nursing entirely, refusing marriage to focus
solely on her practice. She worked hard and made an impact one can only imagine to inspire.
Florence Nightingale was born on May 12th, 1820, in Florence, Italy, to William and Frances
Nightingale. Growing up, Florence lived with her parents and her sister, Frances, in a well connected
British family. She was raised at Lea Hurst where she received education, which included German,
Italian, and French. She always had a keen interest in philanthropy ... Show more content on

She collected $50,000 by 1860 and the Nightingale School and Home for Nurses was established.
Because of having Crimean Fever from her work in crimea, she was not able to be the superintendant,
but instead closely watched the progress of the institution.
Not only did florence Nightingale revolutionize the world by nursing by establishing nursing schools
and emphasizing the importance of quality care and sanitation, but she also spread her knowledge
through writing books, such as Notes on Hospital (1859) and Notes on Nursing (1859). She spread her
knowledge and ideas so that everyone throughout the world could get proper care.
Florence Nightingales legacy is still remembered to this day. Many hospitals, museums, and schools
have been named in her honor and a number of statues built in her memory. Theater productins have
been written, as well as National Nurses day being celebrated every year on her birthday. Florence
Nightingale set the nursing world on fire and pushed it into motion. Nightingale will forever live on as

The Definition Of Religion In The Sacred Canopy, By Peter...
Both Peter Berger, in his book The Sacred Canopy and Durkheim in his book The Elementary Forms
of Life understand religion as a phenomenon that provides a frame of reference within which humans
order the universe. Though some may say that the sociology of religion deems too many societal
phenomena as religious, the issue is not a problem of method, but of definition. If religion is defined
as man s way of orienting himself within the world, then it follows that everything he does, makes,
and interacts with could be considered a religious act. Therefore, an analysis of Durkheim s and
Berger s definition of religion suggests every aspect of society will possess a religious dimension to it.
In The Elementary Forms of Religion Durkheim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Practically everything on society created by man will have a trace of religion in it because it is through
these various interactions with the world that he finds purpose. Aspects of the social world such as
politics, economics, and science are all simply ways of trying to find order and meaning in the world,
and therefore they all possess a trace of religiosity . America s democracy, which prides itself on being
among the first nations to rid itself of divine right and have a separation of church and state, still
functions as religion. Concepts such as The American Dream functions as one of the nation s core
beliefs because it grants the people a sense of agency and goal for their struggle in the workforce.
Moreover, the American Constitution sees rights as natural and self evident and therefore irrevocable.
However, they are also simply social constructs as proven by the fact that they are constantly being
changed, revoked, and disputed. Therefore, the ways in which America s government and politics to
offer national identity and cohesion, could be deemed a civil religion. On the same token, science is
just another way to try and order the world and works similar to religion. Scientific categories such as
classifying living beings into three domains of life seem self evident and legitimate, but it is simply
another man made way to understand the world. It still fulfills Berger s purpose of religion which is to
simply to orient man in the context of the entire universe. Though modern science seemingly does so
with humility, which is not seen in typical religion. Science even grants a purpose for man in the
universe, just pure and basic

Exploring Freshwater Streams: Cherry Creek and Bear Creek
Trisha McNiff BIOL 2081
005 Tucker 04/23/2013
Introduction
On April 6th 2013, our Biology II lab evaluated the health of two freshwater streams in the Denver
area. Both creeks flow to the South Platte River but are situated in different environments (urban and
suburban) which cause variance in biotic and abiotic indicators of stream health. The presence or
absence of bioindicators is dependent on the water chemistry. Through the study of stream health, we
can gain insight on the stress that humans cause to freshwater habitats. I think that Bear Creek is
healthier than Cherry Creek because it is in a less urban environment and is less affected by human
influences. If the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bioindicators of stream health include blackfly larvae, caddisflies, and algae. The presence of blackfly
larvae indicates sewage pollution. Caddisflies indicate higher O2 concentrations. The presences of
algae can indicate different things. If algae is absent, there may not be enough nutrients to support its
growth. Thick algae indicates eutrophication. Previous studies by the Colorado Department of Health
Water Quality Control Commission in 1981 show comparable amounts of dissolved O2 as well as pH,
nitrite, and nitrate levels in both Cherry and Bear creek. The NH 3 levels were much higher in Cherry
Creek at .10 mg/L compared to Bear creek where the NH 3 levels were at .06 mg/L (Colorado 1981).
In today s society, it is important to find a balance between preserving the natural ecosystem and
accommodating the wants, needs, and desires of the humans who affect it. (Meyer 1997). Pollution is
inevitable but should be considered and kept as low as reasonably achievable.
Materials and Methods The following procedures were carried out carried out at both Cherry Creek
and Bear Creek 04/06/2013. The Colorado Department of Health Water Quality Control Commission

Pursuing A Career As A Soccer Player
Everybody has asked, what is the most interesting job? What do you want to study? In these days,
people are looking for a good job that can improve his/her future, but there some types of jobs that are
not secure or do not offer too many opportunities. Therefore, people need to be careful about what
they want to study. There are three types of jobs I would like to work: Soccer coach, business
administration, and doctor.
One of the three jobs I would like to work is soccer coach. I chose this because I love soccer. To be
honest, since I was a child, I have wanted to be a soccer player. I had that dream on my mind, but
unfortunately, I had a serious injury in my knee and I could not play anymore. The reason why I want
to be a soccer coach is because I want to be involved in the soccer world, even if I have an injury in
my knee. I want to create new professional soccer players. I just want to teach people who love soccer
how to play. Soccer is the most popular sport around the world, especially in Latin America and
Europe and it is one of the few sports in which you can use your whole body: feet, arms, hands, chest,
shoulders, and even your back. To be a soccer coach you need to be a boss, a father, you have to know
hot treat your team and give them good advice, you need to have leadership, and you have to have
sufficient knowledge about the sport. Before being a coach, you have to do a special course. After that
you get an authorized license. In the United States

Safe Space Research Paper
Safe spaces have gotten plenty of media attention in recent years, commonly being talked about as a
way to influence college campuses. From what I ve heard, many students want a place to be free from
scrutiny and discrimination. I have also heard about how guest lectures at colleges are affecting the
demand for safe spaces, depending on the speaker and their chosen subject, students choose to protest
lecturers they find offensive or violating to their personal beliefs. Thus, causing the collective demand
for a space free from threatening opposing views. I can understand why students would want safe
spaces, but it just seems unnecessary and potentially problematic. My goal is to learn as much as I can
about the potential implications of safe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One thing I notice over and over again in my research is that adults all seem to believe that college is
not supposed to make students comfortable, it s meant to push them and expose them to new people
and ideas. Former President of the United States, Barack Obama argues, the purpose of college is not
just, as I said before, to transmit skills. It s also to widen your horizons; to make you a better citizen;
to help you to evaluate information; to help you make your way through the world; to help you be
more creative. Students should have a place they feel safe and able to be themselves. However, the
belief that I need to be safe ideologically, I need to be safe emotionally, I just need to feel good all the
time. And if someone else says something that I don t like, that is a problem for everyone else is very
harmful and unattainable. Katherine Byron, a Brown University student and an advocate for safe
spaces wants to make her campus a safe place for rape victims. So when a guest lecturer came to
Brown and was going to talk on the issue of rape culture Byron set up a safe space for anyone who
found the debate too upsetting. The room was equipped with cookies, coloring books, bubbles, Play

mother and child (who was portrayed with the lightest skin color) than the father. It could be assumed
that the artist believed Americans had more power over the Native American women and children and
therefore could make them more civilized than the Indian males. Around the same time as Harper s

America, companies like Anheuser Bush released several beer advertisements that exploited the image

Louie s experiences are like no other. As a troubled child Louie brawled with others and was thought

Olympics, Louie was sent to war, where he becomes a POW in Japan. In the book Unbroken by Laura

courageousness and resourcefulness. First of all, the personality trait courageousness means to be

Additionally, Louie volunteered to shave the guards where they were offering one rice ball per shave

Essay On Stakeholder Analysis Of Delhi s Odd-Even Policy
Stakeholder Analysis of the Delhi s Odd Even Policy
The implementation of the odd even policy has directly or indirectly impacted a wide variety of
people especially those living in Delhi. Due to the complexity of the demographic structure and
transportation system in Delhi, this experiment has drew intense attentions from the public and
brought pressure to the government. The citizens in Delhi were highly impacted by this drastic
measure. Meanwhile, the high court in Delhi and the Delhi government played the key roles in
determining and implementing the policy. It is crucial to understand the role of each stakeholder
played in this issue and how well their interests or concerns were addressed. More importantly, studies
were made to investigate which stakeholder has a higher level of influence in the policy making and
implementation process. This will provide important insights to the future implementation of the
policy as revealed by the government earlier. Therefore, this paper has carefully examined the interests
of three main stakeholders groups (residents in Delhi including the minorities, Delhi government and
the High Court), the impacts of policy on each group and their level of influence in this policy.
Citizen in the capital is the largest stakeholder group in this experiment. Residents in Delhi played the
key roles in ensuring the success of the experiment. Without the cooperation given by the residents,
the experiment will not be able to carry out smoothly and

Ethical Issues on the Treatment of Animals Essay
Animals have always played an essential role in many aspects of this world. Some people look upon
these roles with favoritism, some with disgust. Animals are considered different from humans by some
people because of their behavior, mannerisms or actions. Some animals are used as food by humans
and other animals, while others are trapped for their furs. Many times people acquire animals for pets,
only to neglect or mistreat them. For many years, the ethical treatment of animals has been a very
controversial topic for moral discussion, often in reference to an ethical code or rule. In this paper, I
will discuss these ethical issues identified with the treatment of animals as well as exploring these
issues from a virtual ethicist s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From a religious aspect, God also puts the fear of man into the animals and again animals are used to
fill the needs of men (Genesis 9:1). A virtual ethicist s perspective is fairly simple to relate to. Our text
book clarifies that virtue ethics promotes a particular kind of person a virtuous or noble person who
provides a role model for those who wishes to be moral (Mosser, 2011). Therefore, relationship with
animals, from a virtue ethicist s standpoint, would support virtuous or moral values. As a virtuous
person, a choice could be to abstain from eating animals and from wearing fur or, perhaps, keeping a
low environmental impact lifestyle. An advantage of virtue ethics is that it brings in all the qualities of
being human such as reason, responsibility and emotion to influence a person s ethical consideration.
This can be applied in situations where a person asks what sort of person he or she should be.
However, our text book clarifies that determining what the specific virtues are, and what the
appropriate balance among those virtues should be, can be difficult (Mosser, 2011). Are people s
statements about animal rights meaningful? As an example, a virtuous person may be of the opinion
that everyone should be compassionate to all creatures and not cause suffering; thus you should not
eat animals. This is an evaluation about a situation, more specifically, a moral judgment. Emotivism,
in contrast to virtue ethics, is

Children With Asperger s Syndrome
It isn t easy to imagine seeing the world in an entirely different and strange way, but for people with
Asperger s syndrome, this concept is reality. AS is a high functioning form of autism that affects many
aspects of a person s life and how they view and understand the world. As a developmental disorder, it
disrupts a person s regular growth and maturing processes. (Allman) People with AS think in a
completely different way than those who are neurotypical; they have difficulties understanding social
situations, such as emotional cues and body language, which causes them to be outcast from a society
they don t much understand. Even so, these people can be very intelligent individuals with academic
gifts; though, things may come too naturally for them, and cause them to get bored.
Asperger s syndrome (which may be referred to as Asperger syndrome, Asperger s disorder, or simply
AS) had its firsts definition in 1944 by Hans Asperger, a Viennese child psychologist. He found in four
boys a certain set of behaviorisms he described as autistic psychopathy . These behaviorisms included
a lack of empathy, little ability to form friendships, one sided conversation, intense absorption in a
special interest, and clumsy movements. The kids were called little professors by Asperger because of
the way they can have such detailed conversations about something they enjoy and how they have
such extensive knowledge about the subject. People think that the publication of Asperger s

Desiree: A Symbol for Victorian Woman
Gender roles were very much defined in the Victorian era and there was not much room open to
interpretation. Men and women both had clear roles in society and very rarely did any gender step
outside that position within the social hierarchy. These roles were defined by the sex and color of a
person. Kate Chopin exemplifies these roles very accurately within her story, Desiree s Baby. In the
short fiction story, Desiree s Baby, the author Kate Chopin incorporates many motifs, symbols, and
imagery to describe gender assumptions and racial roles for both men and women in the 1800s by
narrating the story of an adopted mother named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, it was a great deal of importance for women to be pure and innocent before marrying a man.
Desiree, though born of unknown lineage, is a representation of the pure and innocent woman of the
household who holds the importance of the duties and responsibility of being a mother and a wife.
Colors continue to be prevalent in this short story through descriptions of the house at Aubigny and of
other people. When Desiree s adoptive mother comes to visit, she notices and describes the roof of the
house as black like a cowl, reaching out beyond the wide galleries that encircled the yellow stuccoed
house (Chopin 242). The colors used to describe the house are not chosen out of pure randomness; it is
chosen to symbolize the race of people living within the Aubigny household. In this case, both colors
symbolize color of skin. Black refers to the numerous slaves Armand owns. Since these slaves are
African, they are considered as people of black skin. The yellow description of the house represents
that there is mixed race residing within the confines of the Aubigny household. By describing the
house as yellow, Chopin is hinting that the family who own the house comes from a lineage of mixed
races. The house itself is the very pride of the Aubigny name and Chopin masterfully describes it as a

When Sarah s aunt told me this story I thought she was being silly. A long time ago Jane had a new

her and help out, until her husband returned from working in Alberta. The sisters had almost finished
unpacking, but Eloise found one small box, labeled for the baby, that sat alone in the dark hallway.
Jane, what s in here? Eloise asked.

Jane did you put on one of the tapes?
No one answered her.
Eloise figured Jane had already gone back to bed. She crept into the room, and looked around for the
tape player. The music had already stopped, but Eloise looked around the room anyway.
Kate looked like a cherub asleep in her cot. Black curls fanned her pillow, and Kate pursed her lips
together in a little frown.
I know, said Eloise, stroking Kate s cheek with her finger. It s cold, but we ll get that sorted. Eloise
pulled a blanket off a chair, and lovingly covered her niece with it. She then went back to her own
room, and promptly fell asleep.
The next morning Eloise sat with her sister, while Jane fed the baby pureed carrots. Kate resembled a
jack o lantern, her face was caked in orange and she was smiling naughtily.
Jane, did you put on one of the tapes last night? Eloise asked.
No, why?
I thought I heard music last night.
You must have been dreaming, smiled Jane. I wish I slept that well.
I must have been, I thought I heard a little girl singing.
Well, I generally prefer more adult dreams, but I guess any good dream will do. I only get pockets of
sleep these days.
It didn t feel like a good dream, Eloise said.
Was the little girl trying to kill you? Jane teased, wiping the baby s mouth with a cloth.
No, but it sounded odd. Too pretty.
Well at least the kid wasn t crying, Jane said.
Yeah, Eloise said, biting her bottom lip.

Pan s Labyrinth Research Paper
Magical Realism Essay After watching the movie Pan s Labyrinth, I believe it deals with some
features of Magical Realism, which is artistic genre that involves realistic narrative and naturalistic
technique combined with surreal elements of a dream or fantasy. This genre includes fantasy elements,
but often has real world social and political problems. I believe that the movie Pan s Labyrinth does
have aspects of magical realism, because Ofelia, one of the main characters, believes in fantasy. Since
the movie is set five years after the Spanish Civil War it included many political problems.
Throughout the movie examples of Magical Realism is present while there are some instances that it

Throughout the movie Ofelia sees creatures from the fairy tales but appears to be the only who sees
them. Additionally, she never once panicked about seeing the creatures, she treated them like normal
which is an aspect of Magical Realism. For example. in the very first scene, she sees a stick bug, but
automatically thinks it is a fairy and does not question where it came from. Later in the movie, Ofelia
must pass three tests to prove she is the Princess of the Underworld. Even though the test dealt with
magical creatures it could have symbolized event in reality. For instance, her second task is finding the
pale man, who is having a feast. While Ofelia is at the feast with the pale man, Vidal and Carmen are
having a feast without Ofelia. Carmen ordered Ofelia to her room without dinner because she had
ruined her clothing. The task and fairy tales could have been an escape for her during the time of the
war and her mother being sick. The Magical Realism aspect of this scene is the pale man and the
reality aspect is that Ofelia, Vidal, and Carmen are all at a feast, just not the same

Igbo Rites Of Passage Essay
The Igbo culture is very unique. It is vibrant, lively, and full of traditions that have been around since
the founding of the tribe. Some of these traditions include rites of passage. These rites of passage
signify a change in the life of a person in the Igbo tribe. The rites of passage in the Igbo culture occur
at birth, when a person reaches the age in which they want to build a family, and at death.
The first rite of passage that a person of Igbo culture will go through takes place only a few days after
birth. This rite of passage is known as the naming ceremony. In this rite, a newborn baby is part of a
very important ceremony where his or her parents chose a name for the child. This is a very special
occasion because the name given to the child will be stuck with them forever. Igbo names can hold
deep meaning. The name given to a child can determine the reputation that they have for the rest of
their life. In the book Things Fall Apart , by Chinua Achebe, a woman named Ekwefi has multiple
children who die. After her children continue to die, she names her daughter Ozoemena, which means
may it not happen again . Parents of the Igbo tribe have a unique way of using names to show feelings
that they have for their child.

Raya, a male orangutan, died in 2013, under the watchful eye of veterinarians, following a cruel

Evaluation Essay On Shrek
Recently, I gave my S.H.I.E.L.D Speech for my Oral Com class, and there were many things I did to
prepare. First, I had to decide what my idea was going to be. I picked Shrek as my shield because he is
awesome and I could tie him into my life without it being too much of a stretch. After I had chosen my
topic, I devised a design for my shield. The final shield design was a giant Shrek face with smaller
faces of the characters Donkey and the Big Bad Wolf to go alongside Shrek. Then, I began writing my
outline. I chose my main points (weirdness, friends, and theatre) because they related to Shrek. Once I
had completed my outline, I practiced with it several times twice in class and twice outside of class. It
was during my practice outside of class that I realized that I did not have enough information to give a
speech that would last over four minutes just from my outline. In response to this, I typed exactly what
I was going to say, word for word, and attempted to memorize it, but that didn t go as planned. ...

Earthworm Research Paper
The Earthworm is a crucial component of the environment due to their interactions with soil which
then, in turn, provides benefits to other living organisms such as their burrowing behavior, which
allows nutrients, air, and water to delve deeper into the soil. After soil is swallowed by the pharynx,
the food matter is sent through the esophagus and into the crop, where the soil is stored until it

The liver secretes a bile to aid in the digestion process and the pyloric cecum allows fermentation to

The Thing About Poaching Research Paper
The Thing About Poaching.
Half a century ago, White Rhinos used to roam the vast lands of South Africa. But for some reason,
the number of rhinos has dropped by a million. The answer to this cause is simple. Poaching.
Poaching has continued for many years and has caused a huge number of African animals to become
extinct. With only 25,000 rhinos left in the world, this huge situation should not only be recognized in
Africa, but should also be noticed all over the world.
During the last few centuries, the number of rhinos and elephants has declined dramatically and is still
decreasing rapidly. About 3 rhinos are killed each day. They are hunted down for their horns which are
used to make medicine and ivory carvings. Places like Vietnam and China tolerate poaching for its
medicine that supposedly cures cancer . With higher demands in Asia, prices have spiked; and so has
poaching. According to the Newsela article Rhinos will soon be extinct if poachers don t stop killing
them , in 2014 400 tons of ivory were extracted from elephants. Statistics have also stated that in
2013, 1,215 rhinos have died at the hands of poaching; and to this day, poaching is still growing. ...

than half of the world s rhinos. Crime groups tend to take advantage of the poor law enforcement

Introduced in Newsela, Poaching has also affected the inhabitants of South Africa as well . Due to
this, many poor, young men have turned to poaching in order to gain money to feed their families.
Even the smallest amount of money would cause survival to be possible. Although the government has
tried many new tactics to stop this problem, there is still very little change. We can t rely solely on the
authorities and policemen to hunt these poachers

Comparing Bandar-Logs In The Jungle Book, By Rudyard Kipling
Did you know the Bandar logs from The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling is similar to bullies? The
Bandar log is similar to bullies by how they behave, speak, and treat others. Both, Bandar log and
bullies, do not have any rules in their own world. They both do not take everything seriously and they
always choose to play around. The Bandar log and bullies always think they are above everyone else.
In my opinion, it is obvious that the Bandar logs and bullies are alike. In their world, they do not have
any rules at all. In Kaa s Hunting, Bagheera said, referring to the Bandar logs, Thou hast been with the
monkey People the gray apes the people without a law the eaters of everything (Kipling 30 31).
Bullies can be truly similar because they have no rules and they can bully anyone they desire to. You
see, The monkey people and bullies are the same because the Bandar logs would never fight unless it
is one hundred to one and bullies would only would torture one kid, but if there are more than one kid
the bully would not do anything. Rules do not apply for bullies and the monkey people, at least that is
what they think. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Value of risk assessment:
Although risk assessment methods have existed for many years, due to several factors, human
interests in it has increased in recent years. Firstly, the pressure is constantly increasing due to the
design cycle, which reduces the tolerance for the late changes. Secondly, production efficiency and
cost efficiency directly affect significant opportunities. Thirdly, performing risk assessment to
decrease the cost and improve productivity provides a competitive advantage. Next, risk assessment
has already caused great international influence. Many international organization clearly claims that
they require a risk assessment.Besides, capturing knowledge, product liability, lack of standards,
schedule control and customer requirements are another kinds of values of risk assessment. For
administrators and decision makers, accounting for the uncertainty could be extremely important to
have an evaluation of the degree of confidence of the results to be used for the implementation of
mitigation actions. (Wang 722)

Rebuttal Mearsheimer s Core Assumptions
Core Assumptions
Realist presumptions are based on an anarchic system vested in the interest of the individual states
through their own national interest. The state is expressed as rational and unitary actors; the main actor
making rational decisions as a whole on behalf of the state. Power is hailed above all else and morals
are irrelevant when the security of the state is at risk.
On the other hand, liberalists prefer cooperation and collaboration where war is a last resort. They
consider human nature to be good in itself and that social progress can be made through moral and
material improvements. They believe in a hierarchic system where power is not commutable. State
and non state actors are needed in the world of politics, wealth is also viewed as important when it ...

of NATO expanding and how it has given reason for Russia to be on guard.

The Ocean s Eleven movie has been chosen for the analysis in this paper mainly because of its unique
storyline. Having a group of 11 people executing an indigenous plan to steal $150 million from a vault
shared by three Las Vegas Casinos. The executed plan will be examined and mapped into a 7 stages
kill chain construction.
In our analysis, we have adopted the 7 stages kill chain model (Hutchins et al., 2011) to describe our
mapping from an adversary engaging an attack for a specific target and/or data. Figure 2 shows the

In this case, study we will discuss each stage of the kill chain model that are mapped to the story

some stages may occur in parallel and breaking the kill chain can be mitigated at any stage or multi

Abstract X rays are commonly assumed to be dangerous and a cause for cancer, but how much
exposure is actually dangerous to humans? Every year 7 out of 10 Americans receive at least one X
ray, and each X ray exposes the patient to a small amount of radiation. People are also exposed to
naturally occurring radiation that comes out of rocks and from outer space. Over time, radiation
exposure builds up, and a patient can eventually have an increased risk of cancer, after a certain
threshold is reached. The cell damage is not easy to control, and can be deadly once it becomes

Roman Catholic Influence On Brazil
The Roman Catholic faith was brought to Brazil in the New World with the country s rediscovery by
the Portuguese, namely Pedro Alvares Cabral on April 23rd, 1500 (Skidmore 5). Although the
Portuguese were already religiously affiliated with Catholicism, in 1552 it began to be practiced
regularly when the first bishop settled in Brazil. Prior to this, monks had attempted to cater to the
spiritual needs of the migrants (Skidmore 25). The presence of the Jesuits resulted in a stronger
spiritual authority as they monopolised the education and social system that existed with respect to the
indigenous peoples (Skidmore 26). As of 2010, Brazil has had the most Catholics in its population

In the story the crucible (1952), Arthur Miller, John Proctor was the one most responsible for the
witchcraft hysteria in the crucible because John Proctor knew beforehand bud didn t spoke out until
toward the end where he confessed but chooses the route to be hung. Why did John Proctor toward the
end chooses to be hung? Was John Proctor really the witch who started this hysteria? Briefly, John
Proctor was the one most responsible for the witchcraft hysteria in the crucible .

I Am A Great Leader
Leaders are everywhere and when I think of great leaders I have had the pleasure of interacting with,
the first ones that come to my mind are my Grandparents, Virgil and June Watts. After my first
thought, my mind floods with many other people who I consider great leaders but my Grandparents
are always the first that I think of as great leaders. My Grandpa taught me about hard work, respect,
the importance of family, and the ability to understand you may not always get along so you have to
learn to compromise sometimes. My Grandma taught me how to love, give to others, cook, and
provide for ourselves and others with what we have available. One of the most important thing my
Grandparents taught me though was, to have a passion and put one hundred percent into it. My
Grandpa with his love of music and entertaining people with playing music and my Grandma with her
love of sewing and making beautiful dresses and quilts.
I spent many nights and days with my Grandparents and often see them as playing the biggest role in
the person I turned out to be. When it comes to personal values and morals, I ve shaped most of mine
from what they have shown me. Although we disagree politically, I learned so much from them about
what it means to be a great leader. They taught me honesty, even when it gets myself in trouble.
Loyalty, is another trait that I learned from my Grandparents, even if it means standing up alone. They
taught me compassion, having the ability to show everyone kindness

  • 2. Personnel Economics Application Paper Personnel Economics Application Paper Tournament is a kind of reward system where fixed rewards are used for a fixed group of people and the distribution of rewards is based on the order of the participants performance (Lazear amp; Oyer, 2009, p. 9). In this particular situation, four agents in one of Mitch amp; Murray s offices are given a strong incentive to succeed in a sales tournament. Mitch amp; Murray uses a set of prizes that diminish in value as a person s relative performance gets lower. The top seller will win himself a Cadillac, the second will win himself a set of steak knives, and the others will be out of job (Glengarry Glen Ross, n.d.). In response to the given prizes, four agents react in different ways. For Ricky ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The good leads are locked in the office manager s room and they will not be distributed until the end of the contest. (Glengarry Glen Ross, n.d.). After he realizes that no matter how hard he work, his sales performance will barely improve, he becomes desperate. At that point, the cost of effort for him is too high which makes the prize unachievable, and thus provides no incentive for him to exert effort anymore. With those old leads, luck becomes relatively more important to the final success and effort relatively less important. In such case, workers will try less hard to win because effort has a smaller effect on whether or not they win (Lazear amp; Oyer, 2009, p. 10). This is why he soon gives up working on the old leads but to flatter, threaten, and bribe the office manager to get good leads which can reduce the cost of his effort and diminish the importance of luck. However, the result is quite unexpected His attempt to get good leads does not work out so he finally helps Dave to steal and sell the good leads to another company. This result may not be explained by tournament theory but can be explained by economic theories Homo economicus all want to maximize their own profit or utility at the lowest cost (Homo economicus, n.d.). Stealing and selling the leads may be a risky move but the profit it brings to Shelly exceeds the risk plus the profit he may gain from working on the old leads, and that ... Death In Dulce Et Decorum Est The presence of death plays a huge factor in the war and impart, factors into Wilfred Owen s poem, Dulce et Decorum Est , aiding him criticizing the war effort as unnecessary and unjust. Tyrus Miller analyzed the poem and found, Death and human suffering, on a purely physical plane, are abundant throughout the poem (Miller). Miller saw Owen included an abundance of death and suffering throughout the poem to send a shock to and force the reader to feel uncomfortable reading the poem. Throughout the duration of the war, it still received mass support from the citizens of the countries involved, but Owen feared they did not know the amount of casualties that occurred. The war was made to look like a necessity and often the newspapers and media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Miller examined the poem further to find Owen s message to the reader, claiming, In the final stanza, the poem once again shifts, now from the poet s dream to his address to a reader, presumed to be a person on the homefront who has experienced nothing of the horror of war and who still believes that war is glorious and ennobling (Miller). In agreement with the statement of Owen aiming to dissuade the british population from running into the war blindly, Miller refers to Owen s audience and how he set the poem out as a warning and message of what war truly consists of. Owen writes in an unsettling form and structure, fluctuating the poem to be slow and fast, contributing to make the reader who never experienced the hardships of war, and trying to shepherd them away from their pro war mentality. Analyzing the poem, Miller explains, Although he cannot literally bring this haunting about, through his poem and its grotesque details, he can force his reader to confront the ugly reality of war that masks behind fine phrases and edifying sentiments. Thus, Owen lingers over the sounds and sight of the dying body, destroyed by the poisonous gas, (Miller) he wants the reader to know Owen did not shy away from detail and wanted to discomfort his reader. Although transition period of carrying out Basel 3 regulation is long , the banks with lower capital adequacy ratio might suffer from the huge pressure of supplying sufficient capital . Many countries have foods similar to what we produce in markham, some patterns are some countries have food that would be produced in other countries. Also the warmer countries have usually have more types of food supplied to markham s grocery stores because crops grow better in warmer temperatures. b. • 7. The Definition Of Religion In The Sacred Canopy, By Peter... Both Peter Berger, in his book The Sacred Canopy and Durkheim in his book The Elementary Forms of Life understand religion as a phenomenon that provides a frame of reference within which humans order the universe. Though some may say that the sociology of religion deems too many societal phenomena as religious, the issue is not a problem of method, but of definition. If religion is defined as man s way of orienting himself within the world, then it follows that everything he does, makes, and interacts with could be considered a religious act. Therefore, an analysis of Durkheim s and Berger s definition of religion suggests every aspect of society will possess a religious dimension to it. In The Elementary Forms of Religion Durkheim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Practically everything on society created by man will have a trace of religion in it because it is through these various interactions with the world that he finds purpose. Aspects of the social world such as politics, economics, and science are all simply ways of trying to find order and meaning in the world, and therefore they all possess a trace of religiosity . America s democracy, which prides itself on being among the first nations to rid itself of divine right and have a separation of church and state, still functions as religion. Concepts such as The American Dream functions as one of the nation s core beliefs because it grants the people a sense of agency and goal for their struggle in the workforce. Moreover, the American Constitution sees rights as natural and self evident and therefore irrevocable. However, they are also simply social constructs as proven by the fact that they are constantly being changed, revoked, and disputed. Therefore, the ways in which America s government and politics to offer national identity and cohesion, could be deemed a civil religion. On the same token, science is just another way to try and order the world and works similar to religion. Scientific categories such as classifying living beings into three domains of life seem self evident and legitimate, but it is simply another man made way to understand the world. It still fulfills Berger s purpose of religion which is to simply to orient man in the context of the entire universe. Though modern science seemingly does so with humility, which is not seen in typical religion. Science even grants a purpose for man in the universe, just pure and basic ... Creek Scientific Paper Exploring Freshwater Streams: Cherry Creek and Bear Creek Trisha McNiff BIOL 2081 005 Tucker 04/23/2013 Introduction On April 6th 2013, our Biology II lab evaluated the health of two freshwater streams in the Denver area. Both creeks flow to the South Platte River but are situated in different environments (urban and suburban) which cause variance in biotic and abiotic indicators of stream health. The presence or absence of bioindicators is dependent on the water chemistry. Through the study of stream health, we can gain insight on the stress that humans cause to freshwater habitats. Bioindicators of stream health include blackfly larvae, caddisflies, and algae. The presence of blackfly larvae indicates sewage pollution. Caddisflies indicate higher O2 concentrations. • 9. Pursuing A Career As A Soccer Player Everybody has asked, what is the most interesting job? What do you want to study? In these days, people are looking for a good job that can improve his/her future, but there some types of jobs that are not secure or do not offer too many opportunities. Therefore, people need to be careful about what they want to study. There are three types of jobs I would like to work: Soccer coach, business administration, and doctor. One of the three jobs I would like to work is soccer coach. I chose this because I love soccer. To be honest, since I was a child, I have wanted to be a soccer player. I had that dream on my mind, but unfortunately, I had a serious injury in my knee and I could not play anymore. The reason why I want to be a soccer coach is because I want to be involved in the soccer world, even if I have an injury in my knee. I want to create new professional soccer players. I just want to teach people who love soccer how to play. Soccer is the most popular sport around the world, especially in Latin America and Europe and it is one of the few sports in which you can use your whole body: feet, arms, hands, chest, shoulders, and even your back. To be a soccer coach you need to be a boss, a father, you have to know hot treat your team and give them good advice, you need to have leadership, and you have to have sufficient knowledge about the sport. Before being a coach, you have to do a special course. After that you get an authorized license. In the United States ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s also to widen your horizons; to make you a better citizen; to help you to evaluate information; to help you make your way through the world; to help you be more creative. Students should have a place they feel safe and able to be themselves. However, the belief that I need to be safe ideologically, I need to be safe emotionally, I just need to feel good all the time. And if someone else says something that I don t like, that is a problem for everyone else is very harmful and unattainable. The citizens in Delhi were highly impacted by this drastic measure. Meanwhile, the high court in Delhi and the Delhi government played the key roles in determining and implementing the policy. Some people look upon these roles with favoritism, some with disgust. Animals are considered different from humans by some people because of their behavior, mannerisms or actions. From a religious aspect, God also puts the fear of man into the animals and again animals are used to fill the needs of men (Genesis 9:1). A virtual ethicist s perspective is fairly simple to relate to. Our text book clarifies that virtue ethics promotes a particular kind of person a virtuous or noble person who provides a role model for those who wishes to be moral (Mosser, 2011). Therefore, relationship with animals, from a virtue ethicist s standpoint, would support virtuous or moral values. As a virtuous person, a choice could be to abstain from eating animals and from wearing fur or, perhaps, keeping a low environmental impact lifestyle. An advantage of virtue ethics is that it brings in all the qualities of being human such as reason, responsibility and emotion to influence a person s ethical consideration. This can be applied in situations where a person asks what sort of person he or she should be. However, our text book clarifies that determining what the specific virtues are, and what the appropriate balance among those virtues should be, can be difficult (Mosser, 2011). Are people s statements about animal rights meaningful? As an example, a virtuous person may be of the opinion that everyone should be compassionate to all creatures and not cause suffering; thus you should not eat animals. • 15. Children With Asperger s Syndrome It isn t easy to imagine seeing the world in an entirely different and strange way, but for people with Asperger s syndrome, this concept is reality. AS is a high functioning form of autism that affects many aspects of a person s life and how they view and understand the world. As a developmental disorder, it disrupts a person s regular growth and maturing processes. (Allman) People with AS think in a completely different way than those who are neurotypical; they have difficulties understanding social situations, such as emotional cues and body language, which causes them to be outcast from a society they don t much understand. Even so, these people can be very intelligent individuals with academic gifts; though, things may come too naturally for them, and cause them to get bored. Asperger s syndrome (which may be referred to as Asperger syndrome, Asperger s disorder, or simply AS) had its firsts definition in 1944 by Hans Asperger, a Viennese child psychologist. He found in four boys a certain set of behaviorisms he described as autistic psychopathy . These behaviorisms included a lack of empathy, little ability to form friendships, one sided conversation, intense absorption in a special interest, and clumsy movements. Essay about Desiree s Baby Akhil Cherukupally Professor Shamiryan English 102 24 July 2013 Desiree: A Symbol for Victorian Woman Gender roles were very much defined in the Victorian era and there was not much room open to interpretation. Men and women both had clear roles in society and very rarely did any gender step outside that position within the social hierarchy. These roles were defined by the sex and color of a person. Kate Chopin exemplifies these roles very accurately within her story, Desiree s Baby. Desiree, though born of unknown lineage, is a representation of the pure and innocent woman of the household who holds the importance of the duties and responsibility of being a mother and a wife. Colors continue to be prevalent in this short story through descriptions of the house at Aubigny and of other people. When Desiree s adoptive mother comes to visit, she notices and describes the roof of the house as black like a cowl, reaching out beyond the wide galleries that encircled the yellow stuccoed house (Chopin 242). The colors used to describe the house are not chosen out of pure randomness; it is chosen to symbolize the race of people living within the Aubigny household. In this case, both colors symbolize color of skin. Black refers to the numerous slaves Armand owns. Since these slaves are African, they are considered as people of black skin. The yellow description of the house represents that there is mixed race residing within the confines of the Aubigny household. By describing the house as yellow, Chopin is hinting that the family who own the house comes from a lineage of mixed races. In my opinion, it is obvious that the Bandar logs and bullies are alike. In their world, they do not have any rules at all. In Kaa s Hunting, Bagheera said, referring to the Bandar logs, Thou hast been with the monkey People the gray apes the people without a law the eaters of everything (Kipling 30 31). Bullies can be truly similar because they have no rules and they can bully anyone they desire to. You see, The monkey people and bullies are the same because the Bandar logs would never fight unless it is one hundred to one and bullies would only would torture one kid, but if there are more than one kid the bully would not do anything. Rules do not apply for bullies and the monkey people, at least that is what they think. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bandar logs always play around and they are irresponsible. Both bullies and the monkey people do not take everything seriously and laugh at almost anything they find funny. Totally, risk assessment can be divided into quantitative risk assessment and qualitative risk assessment. Value of risk assessment: Although risk assessment methods have existed for many years, due to several factors, human interests in it has increased in recent years. Firstly, the pressure is constantly increasing due to the design cycle, which reduces the tolerance for the late changes. Secondly, production efficiency and cost efficiency directly affect significant opportunities. Thirdly, performing risk assessment to decrease the cost and improve productivity provides a competitive advantage. Next, risk assessment has already caused great international influence. Many international organization clearly claims that they require a risk assessment.Besides, capturing knowledge, product liability, lack of standards, schedule control and customer requirements are another kinds of values of risk assessment. For administrators and decision makers, accounting for the uncertainty could be extremely important to have an evaluation of the degree of confidence of the results to be used for the implementation of mitigation actions. The state is expressed as rational and unitary actors; the main actor making rational decisions as a whole on behalf of the state. Power is hailed above all else and morals are irrelevant when the security of the state is at risk. On the other hand, liberalists prefer cooperation and collaboration where war is a last resort. Having a group of 11 people executing an indigenous plan to steal $150 million from a vault shared by three Las Vegas Casinos. The executed plan will be examined and mapped into a 7 stages kill chain construction. But shortcomings or mistakes in this Report are my fault alone. Some recommendations are radical. The participants in the construction process can react in three ways to them. They can refuse to have anything to do with the Report. That would be a pity. The problems would remain, but the goodwill to tackle them, which has been growing dramatically over the last twelve months, would be lost. They can pick out the sections which suit them and reject the rest. If everyone does that, nothing will happen. Roman Catholic Influence On Brazil The Roman Catholic faith was brought to Brazil in the New World with the country s rediscovery by the Portuguese, namely Pedro Alvares Cabral on April 23rd, 1500 (Skidmore 5). Although the Portuguese were already religiously affiliated with Catholicism, in 1552 it began to be practiced regularly when the first bishop settled in Brazil. Prior to this, monks had attempted to cater to the spiritual needs of the migrants (Skidmore 25). The presence of the Jesuits resulted in a stronger spiritual authority as they monopolised the education and social system that existed with respect to the indigenous peoples (Skidmore 26). I Am A Great Leader Leaders are everywhere and when I think of great leaders I have had the pleasure of interacting with, the first ones that come to my mind are my Grandparents, Virgil and June Watts. After my first thought, my mind floods with many other people who I consider great leaders but my Grandparents are always the first that I think of as great leaders. My Grandpa taught me about hard work, respect, the importance of family, and the ability to understand you may not always get along so you have to learn to compromise sometimes. My Grandma taught me how to love, give to others, cook, and provide for ourselves and others with what we have available. One of the most important thing my Grandparents taught me though was, to have a passion and put one hundred percent into it. My Grandpa with his love of music and entertaining people with playing music and my Grandma with her love of sewing and making beautiful dresses and quilts. I spent many nights and days with my Grandparents and often see them as playing the biggest role in the person I turned out to be. When it comes to personal values and morals, I ve shaped most of mine from what they have shown me. Although we disagree politically, I learned so much from them about what it means to be a great leader. They taught me honesty, even when it gets myself in trouble. Loyalty, is another trait that I learned from my Grandparents, even if it means standing up alone. They taught me compassion, having the ability to show everyone kindness ...
