NICU Nursing Reflection
Working in a neonatal intensive care unit has been a learning experience filled with a roller coaster of
emotions. So many emotions have passed over me through different situations that I have encountered
in my three years of working in this type of unit. When I first began my journey in becoming a NICU
nurse I was exposed to many things that a registered nurse may not encounter unless they are in an
intensive care unit setting. For example, I needed to learn to work with ventilators, medication drips,
everyday use of an Ambu bag and all this with premature babies nonetheless. I have learned that bio
reactions are an automatic signal in our brains which determines how our body will react in certain
situations. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss three personal experiences of my personal bio
reactions. I want to recall a particular incident that occurred very early in my journey to becoming a
NICU nurse. It was not long after orientation, I was no longer working with my preceptor and I was
on my own caring for these tiny humans. I have the responsibility of total patient care, including their
airway, especially if a respiratory therapist is unavailable. In our unit, one can feel quite overwhelmed
as it is large and there are always monitors beeping for different reasons. We have multiple staff
around including fellows, residents, respiratory therapist and of course there are always parents and
relatives on the unit since there are no restricted hours. That day

Newer Treatments For Schizophrenia Symptom Management
Newer treatments for schizophrenia symptom management focus on both the DA and the 5 HT
systems in an attempt to alleviate positive, negative and cognitive symptoms (Leucht et al., 2009;
Leucht, Wahlbeck, Hamann, Kissling, 2003). The 5 HT hypothesis of schizophrenia arose from
toxicologic explanations of mental illness that were popular in the 1950s (Osmond, 1958). Toxicologic
explanations received their inspiration from the observation that exogenous substances could produce
effects that resemble certain signs and symptoms of mental illness, such as hallucinations (Osmond,
1958). The 5 HT hypothesis arose based on the observation that hallucinogenic effects, such as those
seen with LSD administration, are mediated by 5 HT agonism, and hence, schizophrenia symptoms
likely arise from a similar mechanism (Baumeister Hawkins, 2004). However, in the 1970s, the 5 HT
hypothesis of schizophrenia was almost completely replaced by the DA hypothesis, only making a
comeback later with the proven effectiveness of the atypical antipsychotics, such as clozapine
(Baumeister Hawkins, 2004).
While the main action of typical antipsychotics is on the D2 receptor, atypical antipsychotics show
enhanced activity at 5 HT receptors with a low affinity for D2 receptors (Divac et al., 2014). Atypical
antipsychotics are more effective in reducing cognitive and negative symptoms and result in fewer
EPS than the typical antipsychotics (Davis, Chen, Glick, 2003). The high binding affinity

Physicalism Vs Knowledge Argument
The first half of this course has focused on many different philosophical theories that deal with the
mind body problem. One of the most interesting of these theories is physicalism, which is the belief
that everything in this world is physical or that all facts are physical facts. There are many arguments
against physicalism, but one of the most well known and most successful arguments is the knowledge
argument. The knowledge argument illustrates that physicalism is false. The knowledge argument was
created by Frank Jackson and he explained this argument in his paper, What Mary Didn t Know. This
paper introduces the reader to a thought experiment that focuses on Mary, a scientist, who is locked
inside of a black and white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jackson specifically disagrees with premise one as the point of the knowledge argument is that Mary
does not know everything there is to know about brain states and their properties as she does not know
about the experience associated with them. Jackson correctly condenses the knowledge argument in
his response by stating that Mary, before her release, knows everything physical about other people.
Mary, before her release, does not know everything about other people because she learns something
new about them after she is released. Therefore, there are truths about others, and herself, that the
physicalist story leaves out. Churchland s first argument focuses on the idea that the two types of
knowledge are different and the first one can be considered knowledge by description and the second
kind of knowledge as knowledge by acquaintance. Some people, such as David Lewis and Laurence
Nemirow, expand on Churchland s argument, which leads to a second, stronger opposition to the
knowledge argument that considers the mode of presentation. Lewis and Nemirow criticize premise
two and state that on Mary s release, she does not learn something new or acquire knowledge in the
relevant sense. When she is released, Mary acquires a certain representational or imaginative ability,
meaning Mary acquires abilities, or knowledge how, as opposed to learning truths, or

North Carolin The Legacy Of The English
In 1792, the state legislature had to decide where to place the state capitol. The capitol was created as
a planned capital city. As a nod to the state s early history, the capital was named Raleigh after Sir
Walter Raleigh in deference to his original plan to build a Cittie of Raleigh in his first colony. (Powell,
1989, p. 212).
The most obvious influence of English settlement in North Carolina is the legacy of the English
language, the English system of weights and measures, which ironically the English no longer use, the
system of governance and as mentioned earlier, the naming of counties and towns.
Another legacy of the English influence in North Carolina is the textile industry. Early colonists
smuggled their knitting frames to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Jack tales originated in the British Isles and were brought to North Carolina as part of a rich oral
storytelling tradition (Chase, 2003, pp. 62 65).
There are pockets of North Carolina which hold on to peculiarities of English speech. According to
(Burke, 1971, pp. 289 300) Ocracoke is one such pocket where dialect and language still contain
English influenced speech. Part of the reason this holds true is that Ocracoke, as a barrier island
remains isolated from the rest of the North Carolina and has held onto specific turns of phrase and
pronunciation. For example, the words abreast (to the side of) comforter (for quilt) squall (for storm)
curtain (in place of blind or roller shade) and whicker (the sound a horse makes.)
The early days of farming in North Carolina over a hundred years after the first white, European
colonists had arrived was initially that of hog and cattle farming. Hogs and cattle were let lose to
forage and roam the countryside before being rounded up twice a year for slaughter. The meat was
exported to the West Indies as salted beef and pork (Kulikoff, 2000). The legacy of hog farming
continues in North Carolina today with 7.1% of the national total of hog farms. In 2012, the hog
industry employed over 130,000 workers, and had a net worth of 2.9 billion dollars. (Lowe, 2008).

Devious Deception In Macbeth By William Shakespeare
Devious Deception (A Discussion of the Themes of Deception in Acts 1 and 2 of Macbeth) William
Shakespeare is the most celebrated author of all time. Throughout his lifetime, he wrote numerous
texts that would go to be the most loved pieces of writing among abounding generations. His plays
have been performed millions of times and all of the world has heard of them, even decades after his
time. His writings contain divers elements of comedy and sadness. In the particular tragedy called
Macbeth, Shakespeare adds deception to his acts to get the viewers thinking. This play is full of
madness, including the main characters losing their minds. These themes of deception in acts 1 and 2
of Macbeth are evident through Lady Macbeth pressuring her husband, the manner in which Macbeth
acts around the king, and the way Lady Macbeth and Macbeth commit the crime of killing Duncan ...

This goes to show how much of an influence a woman can have on her man. In the play, Macbeth
wants to kill king Duncan, but starts to have second thoughts about it. He thinks of how Duncan has
been such a dear friend to him and how he has never done him wrong. However, Lady Macbeth tells
him he needs to stop that by joking about his manhood. She truly influences him and uses deception to
make him kill the king. In Scene 7 of act 1 on line 47, Lady Macbeth says: What beast was t then that
made you break this enterprise to me? When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more
than what you were, you would be so much more the man. Her persuasion is a form of

Criminal Justice Setting Goals
Setting goals give me the motivation I need so that I know I am working toward something I really
want. My goals are my reminder that no matter how hard the task maybe I must take each one of them
head on to accomplish them. Goals may change along the way however the result of them will never,
and that is the feeling of success and accomplishment that I will feel knowing I ve done all I can and
set my mind to.
As of now, this is my third semester attending Eastfield and I m majoring in criminal justice in hopes
of working in the juvenile justice system someday. My current goal is finishing school and graduating
with an associates degree in criminal justice. Then from there, I hope to be making my way to a Sam

seeing no value in creating a connection with others. However, seeking solace in cold logic and
thinking made me a callous individual on the outside. Thereby depriving me of being able to
communicate all of my ideas to others. Despite being around so many people, I might as well have

In high school, I felt that a vital part of my education was missing my freshman year since we did not
have to take any social studies class. This made me feel like we had been cheated in some way. So,
when I had the choice of taking college prep World History or Advanced Placement European History
the following year, I chose to take AP because I felt like history should be something challenging that
forces one to think and question information. I knew it would be rigorous, but if history doesn t make
you think critically, it carries no meaning. However, the first semester didn t go well and I failed.
Frustrated by this failure and feeling powerless, I dug in my heels the second semester and began to
study more and yet still wasn t getting the answers right. On the night before the AP European Test, I
made one final attempt to atone for my lackluster study skills earlier in the year by reading my
textbook cover to cover. It worked because I passed with a three on the AP exam and felt motivated to
do better come eleventh grade. I no longer stayed up all night or had to read the textbooks cover to
cover for AP US History class or AP English Language and Composition class. Although not my first
language, I had an adequate command of the English language and crafting my words in a unique way.

Explain the Teleological Arguments for the Existence of...
Explain the Teleological arguments
The word teleological originates from the Greek telos meaning end or purpose. It infers the existence
of God from a particular aspect or character of the world, namely the presence of order, regularity and
purpose, and thus, is most commonly known as the design argument; it postulates the idea of a
designer for all that has been designed. As its name suggests, the teleological argument attempts to
seek the ultimate end or purpose.
Furthermore, the teleological argument holds the belief that this designer is the primary cause of such
existences, and is therefore what Aristotle would believe to be the uncaused cause , the unmoved
mover . It is never assumed that this initial cause could be God, yet ... Show more content on

Thus, there must be a superior being, big enough to create a supreme artefact such as the universe.
Finally, David Hume likened the world to one great machine subdivided into an infinite number of
lesser machines . This theory however leads to the philosophy that similar effects require a similar
cause. Through the thrust of Hume s argument, he introduces us to two characters that express the
argument for design; whilst a third, namely Philo, criticises the argument. Swinburne identifies the
argument from design and the argument to design, also known as the anthropic argument. The former
form usually involves analogy, and the latter, argues that nature provides for the needs of intelligent
beings. This would however, require an extreme intelligence such as God. The heart of this argument
is that non intelligent material things produce beneficial order and therefore require an intelligent
being to elicit this. Three features of the world particularly impressed eighteenth century thinkers;
firstly the world as a whole, specifically the solar system as described by Newton s gravitational
theory. Secondly, the bodily forms of all animals and plants, in particular organs such as the eye.
Finally, the providential arrangement of things on earth amazed eighteenth century philosophers. This
leads us back to the design argument for the pocket watch, an aspect that also impressed people at the
time; it was a new invention and a clear sign of breakthrough in

Shoplifting In Sociological Research
Shoplifting is criminal issue that is frequent, nonviolent, public and observable that serves as a serious
concern for the criminal justice system (Weaver and Carroll 1985: 350). Shoplifting is the criminal
action of stealing goods from a shop, while pretending to be a customer (Oxford 2016). In sociological
research today, shoplifting is vaguely defined behaviour that differs in detection and has various
degrees of punishment (Newberg 1968:132). Shoplifting is a crime committed by offenders varying in
gender, age, race, and class which gives it a vague reputation in sociological research and leaves
scholars uncertain of who the primary offenders are. A study done by Dabney, Hollinger, and Dugan
(2004) aims to identify who the primary offenders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

persons younger than 35 (Dabney et al. 2004:715). This age group is described as being gainfully
employed, middle aged adults who occasionally steal as a means of acquiring goods that stretch
beyond the household budget (Dabney et al. 2004:720). In terms of race, non whites were no more
likely to shoplift than were whites however, Hispanic females were more likely than any other
race/gender grouping to do so. Additionally, black females were just as prone to shoplift as all male

The Contributions Of The Lincoln Electrical Company
What are its values and how is this related to increased performance by employees?
The Lincoln Electrical company has an organizational structure rooted in the values and principles set
out by its two founders, John Lincoln, engineer and inventor, and later his brother James F. Lincoln.
The company has a strong company culture that persists to present. Both brothers left their imprints on
the company, but the primary shaper of its values and principles, and success should be attributed to
James Lincoln.

Is Lincoln rare?
Lincoln Electric s commitment to its employees is rare and its concept of empowering employees goes
back to the company s origins. The sharing of company profits with its employees is a unique
characteristic. It was one of the first companies to pay bonuses and to allow workers the option of
buying company stock, which empowered employees by making them partners with management. It
was also one of the first to have retirement packages and to institute a formal employee merit
evaluation system.
What are some company artifacts?
Some artifacts of Lincoln are exceptional worker performance with little idle time. Another is the rate
of turnover with no employee ever having been fired or being dismissed. Employee performance is
extremely high and employees receive bonuses, a key part of its unique system. Worker productivity
has steadily increased, with figures having doubled since 1945. There is no need for a union as
employees have an excellent relationship with the company and are involved in making key decisions
that affect employees.
What type of organizational company profile does Lincoln Electric have?
Lincoln represents a company with a strong company culture which has persisted for many years. The

The agency was understaffed and its inspectors were overworked. Also, the week before the mine
explosion, half of the agency s inspectors failed to attend required training courses and the agency
neither kept track of their attendance nor did it sanction them. Not only that, but the company can t
shut down a mine unless the total violations of these coal mine companies are above the level needed
to force its closure. Most of the coal mine companies challenged MSHA s citations and corrected
enough of the significant violations so they fall below the shut down level. This is irresponsible on
MSHA s side. Thy should enforce a tighter and stricter rules when it comes to violations. MSHA
should not just imposed fines on the company but they should be more stern when it comes to safety
violations by the company. Also, waiting until there is too much violations by the company to close
the mines will endanger the lives of the miners. When people lives are on stake, MSHA surely are not
up to the standard of that task.
Question 4
The miners had some idea of the risks of working in the Upper Big Branch mine however that is not
enough for them to be held any responsibility for their own deaths. Don Blankenship had released a
memo to the managers specifically stating to ignore wasting time responding to requests to fix things.

Disadvantages Of Weed Infestation
Weed infestation has been known to cause substantial reductions in crop yields thereby obstructing
sustainable agriculture (Ayeni et al., 2013). Weed competition was identified by Mbanje et al. (2001)
as the most important factor for yield reduction in both commercial and communal farming in
Zimbabwe. Weeds threat had forced farmers to use synthetic herbicides which have detrimental effects
on the environment. Synthetic herbicides are also expensive and are not readily available for
communal farmers use. Chemical and mechanical weed management reduce profitability in crop
production since these methods are expensive. Recent efforts are being intensified on finding
alternative strategies for weed management. The need for safe food production has developed steadily
over the years as a result of consciousness about food quality and environmental concerns regarding
agrochemicals used in agriculture. Such efforts include the use of allelochemicals which are believed
to be much safer than synthetic herbicides. Crops/plants release chemicals i.e allelochemicals which

Because She Looks Like A Child Summary
Because She Looks Like a Child, written by Kevin Bales, focuses on Siri, a fifteen year old girl living
in Thailand, who was sold into prostitution by her father. Once the brothel took her in, Siri was
informed she owed 200,000 baht and that she owed 30,000 baht per month for living expenses.
Though prostitution is illegal Kevin Bales explains that this is very common in Thailand. Their fathers
out of debt bondage or to be able to afford modern conveniences such as color televisions and video
equipment sell thousands of young girls into prostitution. It is stated that directly enslaving girls
through kidnapping is unnecessarily as village families are readily willing to sell their young
daughters. The girls, who are sold, go to the brothels voluntarily as they are completely unaware of
what they will be doing once they reach their destinations. The living conditions are terrible for these
young girls and they have little chance of paying off their debt. However, once they become infected

Dietary approaches for long term weight loss have been a topic of interest for the past couple of
decades. As the rise of obesity continues, research is focused on macronutrient distribution and the
effect it has on an individual s long term weight. A diet that may be the most adequate with the
information collected could be a moderate protein diet with a low glycemic index and high omega 3
fatty acids and MUFAs. According to the research cited above, this diet seems to work the best for
overall weight loss and weight maintenance. Factors that should be considered in long term weight
loss include the difficulty of adherence to dietary patterns resulting in potential for meal replacements,
if necessary. Meal replacements and personalized diets might be needed to help increase long term
weight loss due to the different characteristics of each individual. Some individuals may not be able to
adhere to a standardized diet because they may have a serious health condition that needs a specialized
diet or may be due to the differences in body size and composition. Carbohydrates, protein and fat all
play an important role in weight loss but due to lack of long term studies on these macronutrients, the

animals are placed in a chain; where our very own survival is based upon fitness. So in actuality this
happens to be false, and if this is false then god is not genuinely all caring. If god is actually all
knowing, all powerful, all caring, he would do something about this. He has the power to intervene
and change things but for reasons unknown chooses otherwise
Furthermore, god is supposedly full of wisdom, his wisdom is infinite, yet the world lacks heavily.
One way this can be viewed is with nature, how nature scarcely tends to the need of human and
animal happiness. One question that one may ask is can and is god able to prevent evil? Does he have
what it takes; maybe god is impotent (lacking power, strength). According

Essay on The Rise of Simón Bolívar to Power in Venezuela
Simón Bolívar was born July 24, 1783 in Caracas, Venezuela. He was born into a wealthy family, who
took their money from rich gold and copper mines they owned in Venezuela. At the age of three
Simón Bolívar s father died, then six years later his mother died. After the death of his parents, he
moved to Spain in 1799 where he continued his education and married a daughter of a nobleman,
María Teresa Rodríguez del Toro y Alaysa in 1803, who later died of yellow fever during a visit to
Venezuela.
When Joseph Bonaparte was named king of Spain in 1807 by Napoleon, Bolívar joined the resistance

of nationalism to his native Venezuela. Upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite his desire to create a union of states similar to the United States of America with a strong
centralized government, Bolívar faced opposition from internal factions throughout the huge Gran
Colombia as political leaders and former brothers in arms fought for power and control. As a
temporary measure, Bolívar declared himself dictator in 1828. He resigned this post in 1830 and
seeing his grand plans derailed by envy, greed and corruption he made plans to leave it all behind and
sail for Europe. On December 17, 1830, Simón Bolívar died in Santa Marta, Colombia, after a battle
with tuberculosis, alone and destitute.
When Bolivar became the de facto leader of Venezuela after the establishment of the second republic
he proclaimed the liberation of slaves. He also was a pioneer in urging the formation of a union of

national hero of millions of people across the world. He represents personal courage, heroism and
controversy as well. Unfortunately in later years his image has been used by political leaders in Latin
America to their personal gain somewhat tarnishing the image of what otherwise has

Hiv And The Hiv Epidemic
The AIDS epidemic, from its beginning, has elicited a variety of responses from individuals and
governments alike. Because the disease was originally shrouded in such mystery, many did not know
how to react, which fostered a default fear of the unknown response. This attitude lead to many
governments adopting a denialist policy, countless individuals living and eventually dying alone due
to an unwillingness to report their illness for fear of consequence or prejudice, and this allowed the
HIV virus flourish. Several countries responded efficiently and effectively to the presence of the HIV
virus in their midst, while other countries maintained an attitude of ignorance. The latter position
contributed to a huge expanse of the HIV epidemic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since this original effort, the Brazilian government has adopted several policies that have greatly
advanced the treatment of HIV positive citizens, reduced stigmatization, and guaranteed funding and
access to medication to all those in need. The Brazilian Ministry of Health (MoH) established the
Brazilian National AIDS Program (NAP) in 1986 with a focus on prevention, universal care and
treatment, and the protection of human rights. Civilian societies continue to be actively involved in
advocating for their individual rights as citizens and toward the advancement of Brazilian society as a

In the past seven years, mortality rates due to AIDS in Brazil have fallen by 50 percent. The Sistema

French Absolute Monarchy
In the centuries preceding the French revolution, France was an absolute monarchy renowned for its
power, wealth and efficiency. The French kings maintained this power by establishing the Estates
General, an assembly composed of representatives from the French nobility, church and mercantile
classes. All three classes served a key role, in exchange for a complete tax emption the French nobility
provided professional soldiers to protect France s vulnerable borders while the Catholic Church
administered the legal system and the lower class merchants financed the government with their tax
money. By cooperating with these groups, the French monarchs ensured that their power was never is

1. Shannon, David. No, David! New York: Scholastic, Inc., 1998. Print.
This is an excellent book for children 3 7 who may have difficulty understanding why they are told no
so often. The illustrations depict a mischief loving little boy with a large head and huge smiles as he
good naturedly causes pure chaos. Children are sure to find his antics hilarious. However, along the
way the book teaches that there is a good reason that the adult is telling the boy no and even young
kids can pick up on the logic behind the reprimand.
2. Seuss, Dr. The Cat in the Hat. New York: Random House, Inc., 1985. Print.
As always, Dr. Seuss ingenious rhyming scheme is creative as well as humorous. Kids will enjoy the
absurdity of the characters while learning about rhymes. The book also teaches that inviting strangers
into one s house is a very bad idea. It teaches this lesson firmly without introducing topics that may
scare young children. Overall, this book is a masterpiece and will continue to be popular for many
years to come.

Critical Analysis Of Amadeus
Perplexing, intriguing, and haunting, Amadeus leaves the viewer with an impression of tragedy and
mastery. While the film highlights the finest musical qualities of its main character, Mozart, it
primarily casts a dark and solemn tone upon most of the story and eventually leads to his unfortunate
fate. Because the film features the point of view from the antagonist, Salieri, it attempts to cause the
viewer to sympathize with a flawed and broken character. Furthermore, the film frustrates the viewer
with the foolish decisions of Mozart, despite the best efforts of his wife Costanza, and the lack of any
moral conclusion or remorse from Salieri. In doing this, it emphasizes realism and a brutal reality over
an idealistic or hopeful ending. In fact, those characteristics provide most of the primary merits that
make this film memorable to this day, even though the film differs vastly from actual history. While
Amadeus features a marvelous soundtrack taken from the writings of Mozart himself and emphasizes
the finest qualities of true talent, the melodies themselves cannot dispel the final thoughts surrounding
the tragic fates of both Mozart and Salieri. While the movie contains complex twists and storyline, the
plot contains all the hallmarks of a powerful tragedy. Told from the perspective of Salieri, the film
gives his perspective on the life and death of Mozart. It shows how Mozart rises from a child prodigy
to one of the top composers in Vienna, despite his childishness and

Ethos In Crisis No 1 By Thomas Paine
The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph, imagine hearing that when you need

Common Sense, in January 1776. Some may question the purpose, and that was to motivate
Americans to fight for what they believe in, what they want and what they deserve during the British
conflict. Throughout Crisis No. 1, Thomas Paine uses pathos to persuade the colonist and
revolutionaries to go to war against the British. Paine talks about how the future will improve, and
mentions God many times throughout his pamphlet.
Paine avoided much use of ethos or logos throughout his pamphlet in order to persuade the colonist on
a deeper emotional level. Paine

The reasons why American people do not vote Essay
The reasons why many Americans do not vote
America is a free country, and voting is an important part of that freedom. Unlike other countries
where dictators and monarchs make decisions on behalf of the people, Americans get the right to
decide who runs the country and what laws should govern citizens. But even though voting is an
important privilege, most Americans simply don t vote, and some of their reasons may surprise you.
Here are seven common reasons most Americans don t vote.
1. They think their vote won t count
Many Americans don t vote because they think their vote doesn t count. This is a common excuse that
s rooted in the belief that the Electoral College chooses the President, not the voters. In reality, the

If you don t voice your opinion by voting, you shouldn t have the right to voice your complaints when
things don t go the way you want them to.
5. Lines are too long
Voting lines can sometimes be long, and for busy people waiting in line is a horrible waste of time and
energy. But in reality, voting lines are seldom long, even for high profile presidential races. With the
advent of new technology, voting is becoming easier and more efficient than ever before, and this
allows voters to get in and out without having to wait in long lines. This excuse is becoming less and
less relevant as time goes on.
6. Don t like the candidates
Politicians are sometimes easy to dislike. Their flaws are often aired publicly for the entire world to
see, and many people generally distrust politicians based on this information. But even if you don t
particularly like any of the candidates, do you really know them? And should it matter whether you
like them or not? Perhaps a politician s stance on issues important to you is more important than
whether or not they are likeable. Even if it s choosing the lesser of two or more evils in your eyes,
voting is still an important way for you to voice your opinion about the subjects you care about most.
5. Can t get to the polls
Getting to polling locations can be a hassle, especially for the disabled, the sick, and people without
transportation. In addition, voting becomes even more difficult for

In the author s POI, the newborn being screened for CCHD is the person component of nursing
metaparadigm. The environment component is the place where the newborn was born. In this case, the
environment s altitude has an impact on the results of newborn screening for CCHD. In a study done
by Ravert, Detwiler, and Dickinson (2011), they stated that the oxygen saturation readings are lower
on newborns delivered at higher altitudes than those born at sea level. Because of the effect of altitude
in oxygen saturation readings, Ravert, Detwiler, Dickinson suggested that there is a need to modify the
newborn screening algorithm for CCHD in places that are located in higher altitudes. The health
aspect of the nursing metaparadigm in the author s POI is demonstrated by the degree of the newborn
s wellness at the time CCHD is detected. The health status of the newborn during the time of diagnosis
has a direct correlation to the outcomes of interventions. According to Martin, Kemper, and Bradshaw
(2012), when newborns with CCHD are diagnosed late, and they are already critically ill when they
present, the prognosis for interventions are worse as opposed to the newborns whose cardiac defects
were detected early while the newborn is still doing well. Lastly, the nursing component of the
metaparadigm in the author s POI is exhibited by nursing participation in the interdisciplinary
collaborative efforts when

Pride and Prejudice: Character Foil
In order for a novel or other literary work to become popular for its time and for an author s audience
to stay engaged and interested in the plot, there must include some sort of conflict or some sort of
contrast that creates that conflict. This conflict attracts the reader to the novel, wanting to read more.
This juxtaposition is achieved through a foil. Foil characters are characters that directly contrast the

Summary Of A History Of The World In 6 Glasses
Every day we drink beverages without even stopping to think of the influence they have, in A History
of the World in 6 Glasses Tom Standage explores the idea that not only do beverages have an impact
on our diet they have shaped the world we know today. The book takes you through world history
chronologically and relates each time period to a different drink. The 6 drinks or glasses as referred to
in the title are beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola. Beer corresponds with the agricultural
revolution in Egypt and Mesopotamia, wine corresponds to the age of enlightenment in Greece and
Rome, etc. While many of us consider learning about history through our diet a little strange, Tom
Standage has another book entitled An Edible History of Humanity which explored a similar concept.
I believe that while the book contains many interesting parallels between beverages and how mankind
has developed, it doesn t continue to hold your attention and in the end feels more like a textbook.

Motivation, Self And Unconscious Interactions
Motivation is literally the desire to do things. According to the Business Dictionary, motivation is also
the internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continuing interested
and committed to a job, role or subject, or to make an effort to attain a goal. Furthermore, conscious
and unconscious interactions are the reasons for motivation. These conscious and unconscious
interaction factors include: intensity of desire/need, incentive/reward value of the goal, and
expectations of the individual and of his or her peers. As a whole, these are the causes for a person

So many emotions have passed over me through different situations that I have encountered in my three years of working in this type of unit. When I first began my journey in becoming a NICU nurse I was exposed to many things that a registered nurse may not encounter unless they are in an intensive care unit setting. For example, I needed to learn to work with ventilators, medication drips, everyday use of an Ambu bag and all this with premature babies nonetheless. I have learned that bio reactions are an automatic signal in our brains which determines how our body will react in certain situations. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss three personal experiences of my personal bio reactions. I want to recall a particular incident that occurred very early in my journey to becoming a NICU nurse. It was not long after orientation, I was no longer working with my preceptor and I was on my own caring for these tiny humans. I have the responsibility of total patient care, including their airway, especially if a respiratory therapist is unavailable. In our unit, one can feel quite overwhelmed as it is large and there are always monitors beeping for different reasons. We have multiple staff around including fellows, residents, respiratory therapist and of course there are always parents and relatives on the unit since there are no restricted hours. That day ... • 4. Newer Treatments For Schizophrenia Symptom Management Newer treatments for schizophrenia symptom management focus on both the DA and the 5 HT systems in an attempt to alleviate positive, negative and cognitive symptoms (Leucht et al., 2009; Leucht, Wahlbeck, Hamann, Kissling, 2003). The 5 HT hypothesis of schizophrenia arose from toxicologic explanations of mental illness that were popular in the 1950s (Osmond, 1958). Toxicologic explanations received their inspiration from the observation that exogenous substances could produce effects that resemble certain signs and symptoms of mental illness, such as hallucinations (Osmond, 1958). The 5 HT hypothesis arose based on the observation that hallucinogenic effects, such as those seen with LSD administration, are mediated by 5 HT agonism, and hence, schizophrenia symptoms likely arise from a similar mechanism (Baumeister Hawkins, 2004). However, in the 1970s, the 5 HT hypothesis of schizophrenia was almost completely replaced by the DA hypothesis, only making a comeback later with the proven effectiveness of the atypical antipsychotics, such as clozapine (Baumeister Hawkins, 2004). While the main action of typical antipsychotics is on the D2 receptor, atypical antipsychotics show enhanced activity at 5 HT receptors with a low affinity for D2 receptors (Divac et al., 2014). Atypical antipsychotics are more effective in reducing cognitive and negative symptoms and result in fewer EPS than the typical antipsychotics (Davis, Chen, Glick, 2003). • 5. Physicalism Vs Knowledge Argument The first half of this course has focused on many different philosophical theories that deal with the mind body problem. One of the most interesting of these theories is physicalism, which is the belief that everything in this world is physical or that all facts are physical facts. There are many arguments against physicalism, but one of the most well known and most successful arguments is the knowledge argument. The knowledge argument illustrates that physicalism is false. The knowledge argument was created by Frank Jackson and he explained this argument in his paper, What Mary Didn t Know. This paper introduces the reader to a thought experiment that focuses on Mary, a scientist, who is locked inside of a black and white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jackson specifically disagrees with premise one as the point of the knowledge argument is that Mary does not know everything there is to know about brain states and their properties as she does not know about the experience associated with them. Jackson correctly condenses the knowledge argument in his response by stating that Mary, before her release, knows everything physical about other people. Mary, before her release, does not know everything about other people because she learns something new about them after she is released. Therefore, there are truths about others, and herself, that the physicalist story leaves out. Churchland s first argument focuses on the idea that the two types of knowledge are different and the first one can be considered knowledge by description and the second kind of knowledge as knowledge by acquaintance. Some people, such as David Lewis and Laurence Nemirow, expand on Churchland s argument, which leads to a second, stronger opposition to the knowledge argument that considers the mode of presentation. Lewis and Nemirow criticize premise two and state that on Mary s release, she does not learn something new or acquire knowledge in the relevant sense. When she is released, Mary acquires a certain representational or imaginative ability, meaning Mary acquires abilities, or knowledge how, as opposed to learning truths, or ... As a nod to the state s early history, the capital was named Raleigh after Sir Walter Raleigh in deference to his original plan to build a Cittie of Raleigh in his first colony. The most obvious influence of English settlement in North Carolina is the legacy of the English language, the English system of weights and measures, which ironically the English no longer use, the system of governance and as mentioned earlier, the naming of counties and towns. According to (Burke, 1971, pp. 289 300) Ocracoke is one such pocket where dialect and language still contain English influenced speech. Part of the reason this holds true is that Ocracoke, as a barrier island remains isolated from the rest of the North Carolina and has held onto specific turns of phrase and pronunciation. It infers the existence of God from a particular aspect or character of the world, namely the presence of order, regularity and purpose, and thus, is most commonly known as the design argument; it postulates the idea of a designer for all that has been designed. As its name suggests, the teleological argument attempts to seek the ultimate end or purpose. Through the thrust of Hume s argument, he introduces us to two characters that express the argument for design; whilst a third, namely Philo, criticises the argument. Swinburne identifies the argument from design and the argument to design, also known as the anthropic argument. The former form usually involves analogy, and the latter, argues that nature provides for the needs of intelligent beings. This would however, require an extreme intelligence such as God. The heart of this argument is that non intelligent material things produce beneficial order and therefore require an intelligent being to elicit this. Three features of the world particularly impressed eighteenth century thinkers; firstly the world as a whole, specifically the solar system as described by Newton s gravitational theory. Secondly, the bodily forms of all animals and plants, in particular organs such as the eye. Finally, the providential arrangement of things on earth amazed eighteenth century philosophers. He also was a pioneer in urging the formation of a union of American republics. Today, Simón Bolívar s legacy stretches far beyond his native Venezuela as the impact of his actions can be felt to this very day. His likeness can be seen in the multitude of statues and plaza throughout the. My impressions of Bolivar, are that he was a visionary, freedom fighter and national hero of millions of people across the world. He represents personal courage, heroism and controversy as well. Unfortunately in later years his image has been used by political leaders in Latin America to their personal gain somewhat tarnishing the image of what otherwise has ... Because the disease was originally shrouded in such mystery, many did not know how to react, which fostered a default fear of the unknown response. This attitude lead to many governments adopting a denialist policy, countless individuals living and eventually dying alone due to an unwillingness to report their illness for fear of consequence or prejudice, and this allowed the HIV virus flourish. Several countries responded efficiently and effectively to the presence of the HIV virus in their midst, while other countries maintained an attitude of ignorance. • 27. Critical Analysis Of Amadeus Perplexing, intriguing, and haunting, Amadeus leaves the viewer with an impression of tragedy and mastery. While the film highlights the finest musical qualities of its main character, Mozart, it primarily casts a dark and solemn tone upon most of the story and eventually leads to his unfortunate fate. Because the film features the point of view from the antagonist, Salieri, it attempts to cause the viewer to sympathize with a flawed and broken character. Furthermore, the film frustrates the viewer with the foolish decisions of Mozart, despite the best efforts of his wife Costanza, and the lack of any moral conclusion or remorse from Salieri. In doing this, it emphasizes realism and a brutal reality over an idealistic or hopeful ending. In fact, those characteristics provide most of the primary merits that make this film memorable to this day, even though the film differs vastly from actual history. While Amadeus features a marvelous soundtrack taken from the writings of Mozart himself and emphasizes the finest qualities of true talent, the melodies themselves cannot dispel the final thoughts surrounding the tragic fates of both Mozart and Salieri. While the movie contains complex twists and storyline, the plot contains all the hallmarks of a powerful tragedy. Told from the perspective of Salieri, the film gives his perspective on the life and death of Mozart. It shows how Mozart rises from a child prodigy to one of the top composers in Vienna, despite his childishness and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unlike other countries where dictators and monarchs make decisions on behalf of the people, Americans get the right to decide who runs the country and what laws should govern citizens. But even though voting is an important privilege, most Americans simply don t vote, and some of their reasons may surprise you. Here are seven common reasons most Americans don t vote. 1. But in reality, voting lines are seldom long, even for high profile presidential races. With the advent of new technology, voting is becoming easier and more efficient than ever before, and this allows voters to get in and out without having to wait in long lines. But even if you don t particularly like any of the candidates, do you really know them? And should it matter whether you like them or not? Perhaps a politician s stance on issues important to you is more important than whether or not they are likeable. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the author s POI, the newborn being screened for CCHD is the person component of nursing metaparadigm. The environment component is the place where the newborn was born. In this case, the environment s altitude has an impact on the results of newborn screening for CCHD. In a study done by Ravert, Detwiler, and Dickinson (2011), they stated that the oxygen saturation readings are lower on newborns delivered at higher altitudes than those born at sea level. Because of the effect of altitude in oxygen saturation readings, Ravert, Detwiler, Dickinson suggested that there is a need to modify the newborn screening algorithm for CCHD in places that are located in higher altitudes. The health aspect of the nursing metaparadigm in the author s POI is demonstrated by the degree of the newborn s wellness at the time CCHD is detected. The health status of the newborn during the time of diagnosis has a direct correlation to the outcomes of interventions. According to Martin, Kemper, and Bradshaw (2012), when newborns with CCHD are diagnosed late, and they are already critically ill when they present, the prognosis for interventions are worse as opposed to the newborns whose cardiac defects were detected early while the newborn is still doing well.
