The Scale Of Trade Credit
Trade credit, as defined by (Paul and Boden, 2008) allows customers to delay payments for goods or
services to a supplier for a specified period of time. Alternatively, Laffer (1970) defines trade credit as
a means through which money is transferred from economic entities possessing idle money balances
to entities in need of additional money balances (Laffer, 1970, pp. 242). Globally, the scale of trade
credit is significant such that in most developed countries it exceeds short term bank credit (Blasio,
2003) and is an important way of financing firms working capital (Peel and Wilson, 1996; Paul and
Boden, 2008).
At least 30% of all credit based sales in developed and emerging markets are paid outside the agreed
terms, with fewer paid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They did not, however, explain how their results relate to the theoretical literature on the financing
motive for trade credit.
Summers and Wilson (1999), using data from 655 UK firms, investigated the theoretical motivations
for the use of trade credit by firms for purchases. The demand for credit was modelled as a function of
transaction costs motivations, financing motivations, operational considerations, seller compliance
issues, supplier marketing, and environmental issues, while controlling for firm characteristics such as
size and industry. The results suggest that trade credit is generally perceived as a cheap financing
option, giving support for the financing motive. These findings for the UK environment seem to
contrast with Elliehausen Wolken (1993) who in their study of trade credit demand in the USA state
that sellers that extend trade credit typically offer cash discounts to encourage early payment.
The most obvious reason as to why customers and indeed businesses use trade credit could be
attributed to the transactional theory. In the absence of trade credit, firms must pay for purchases upon
delivery. Seasonal businesses may demand extended credit terms due to their irregular cash flows and
to achieve balance in their cash conversion cycle (Wilson and Summers, 2002; Paul, 2004). Ferris

March 8th Research Paper
March 8th is International Women s Day, defined by YES! Magazine as: a day started on March 8,
1857, in New York City by Garment workers who staged a protest against inhumane working
conditions and low wages. Despite being attacked and dissolved by police officers, the movement
continued. By 1908 the movement had grown to 15,000 women in the New York City march alone. It
also expanded to include child labor, shorter working hours, and voting rights. The slogan for this rally
became Bread and Roses with bread symbolizing economic security and roses for better living
standards. May 1908, the Socialist party named the first International Working Women s Day on the
last Sunday in February. The date has moved around slightly but remains around the first of March, so
it makes sense for it to be on March 8th. http://www.yesmagazine.org/people power/where did

so many wealthy parents hire others to raise their kids for them. Baron who is only ten can already

now she has the responsibility of being the First Lady of the United States. How can any woman not

Renting and Netflix
Netflix Case Analysis
Competition and Strategy
January 31, 2006
This case represents an analysis of the DVD rental business and specifically how Netflix positioned
itself in the market and the direction of the industry as a whole. Several tools were utilized to help
analyze Netflix. Case facts were considered in addition to possible future strategy in relation to market
position.
Introduction
Netflix was founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings who is the current CEO of the company. Mr. Hastings
has experience with the birthing of a startup company in his venture with Pure Software, which he
founded in 1991. Mr. Hastings background in the software industry would prove to be an asset for his

Wal Mart developed a rental program almost identical to that of Netflix, through walmart.com. Even
the envelopes and movie selections were similar to Netflix s. However, it was estimated to only
accumulate 1/5 the number of subscribers as Netflix by the end of the first year. In addition, it only
had 7 distribution centers compared to Netflix s 15. Wal Mart did plan to open more centers at other
facilities in the future. Wal Mart was still debugging its online software, where Netflix had already
spent years debugging its software.

It did not have an online program, but it was not expected to be far away.

The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde
Psychological Freud s belief was that mental health and psychological wellness requires a harmonious
relationship between the different parts of the mind and a lack of harmony can lead to neurosis. Plato
invented the original tripartite and Freud expanded on it in 1923. The tripartite is divided into the
sections: The Superego, the Ego, and the Id. The Superego is basically the conscience of our mind.
The Ego is consciousness created by the combination of the Id and Superego. The Id is having
thoughts of instincts and drives which are necessary to satisfy. In Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian
Gray, we see the main characters representing the Superego, Ego, and Id.
The Superego is representative of our conscience and is opposite of the id. Superego comes from Latin
and really means above the ego . It is the greatest power of our mind. The superego is what most
people would call the conscience or where a god would be. The Superego is a basis for how we view
the world, social norms, and morals. Also, as the Superego portrays the conscience, it holds our sense
of wrong and right. We have to follow the needs of the Superego or else we might feel some guilt or
shame.
Freud said that the Ego is the mediator between the Id and Superego and the outside world. For the
Ego to do its job, it has to delay the desires of the Id until it is socially acceptable to give the Id the
needs. So our conscious driven Ego is a balance of the Id and Superego, evening out our primal needs

Plato s Republic As A Guide
Let me tell you about the perfect republic. First, I ll describe it to you using Plato s Republic as a
guide. Then, I ll explain whether it is better to live in Plato s republic or in a timarchy, oligarchy,
democracy, or a tyranny. Plato s books create an ideal city where there are the producers (farmers,
craftsmen, etc.), the auxiliaries, also known as the warriors, and the guardians, they are the rulers of
this city. Each of these groups must perform its job, and only that one job, and each must have the
right amount of amount of power in relation to the other groups. This then brings us to the myth of
metals, the guardians are gold, the auxiliaries are silver, and the producers are iron and bronze (415a).
The reason why the guardians are gold is because they are the most precious and revered, and the
quality of the metal or soul goes down the farther you go down the class system. But before I get
ahead of myself how are guardians supposed to be rulers? Are they born knowing how to rule? No,
they are tested at a young age, and are brought to terrors and then cast into pleasures testing them to
see if they are perfect if they do not pass this test they are to serve under the one who passes the trials
(413d). Now Socrates was a daring and creative man, and laid out three ideas known as the three
waves of ridiculousness. The first wave was a big one; he suggested that men and women alike should
get equal education. Is it possible to use any animal for the same things

Examples Of Allusions In The Hollow Men
T.S Eliot s The Hollow Men is a broad allegory for deliverance in a landscape reminiscent of
purgatory. Eliot provides examples of allusion, imagery, and paradox to describe a fully realized
apocalyptic scenario that affirms the hopelessness of a godless world. The poem begins two allusions:
literary and historical. Mr. Kurtz he dead is reference to Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Kurtz
was a man who had lost his humanity after traveling to Africa and succumbing to insanity. A penny for

Clean Water And Clean Drinking Water
Water is an essential element in our daily lives, but for North Americans, water service is a
convenience that we too often take for granted until a serious issue occurs, (Waterworld, 2014). There
is more than 1 billion people who lack adequate access to clean drinking water and at least estimated
there are over 400 million that are children. Because unclean water yields illness, roughly 443 million
school days are missed every year. (Goodnet, 07 Oct, 2014). Providing clean water to the billons of
people who don t have access to clean water is important because it help maintain human health.
Clean water has become one of our most precious resources in the 21st century, in fact one in nine
people live without access to clean and drinkable water. (Goodnet, 07 Oct, 2014). Human need water
that is clean and safe to drink so it can help maintain the body s temperature, it would also lubricate
and cushion the joints. To help provide clean water to developing countries our organization should
provide help to an organization called charity: water, which are a nonprofit organization that provides
safe and clean water to developing countries. Our organization should provide help to Charity: Water
because it could help spread awareness around the world, help developing countries in creating ways
to have clean water, and provide a health living environment. From this statements, The figures are

Restaurant Demographic Analysis
Before we can even start a restaurant at all, we have to go for analyzation of the demographic and
psycho graphic of our location. And according to the toronto.ca/wps/portal/contentonly the location
we choose is mostly populated by Chinese, the Koreans, Cantonese and others Asia, non Asia,
immigrant and citizens. The percentage of those in the neighborhood between the ages of 25 64 is
64.1%, followed by young youth with 19.3%, followed by seniors with 10.5 %, leaving a percentage
of 6.1% to children. This is good for us because we know that 97% of the area is a rental apartment
and with fewer children in the area, most family will not worry too much about spending food outside.
The seniors who are mostly Asian immigrant who will crave for their homeland foods and our

America Land The Doers Analysis
When a butterfly flaps its wings, it is said that a hurricane can form as a result. Of course, we do not
see the hurricane that comes much later we simply see a butterfly going about its business. How can a
butterfly accomplish such a monumental feat and could a human do it too? Well, as with all actions, it
requires energy. In a recent commercial by Chevron, it is implied that oil is the source of energy for
human doers. Filled with images of patriotism, inventions, and all the wonders of mankind s
advancement, Chevron shows all the positive accomplishments doers can do. What it does not show,
however, is the resulting hurricane. Chevron s fallacious commercial about doers is an example of

It seems unusual that birds can t fly, but it s brilliant that they can practically fly underwater ! The
World Book (2008 ed.) states that penguins use the same motion to swim as other birds use to fly.
These flipper y fowls can zoom through the water at a rate of eight miles an hour, but if they really
must, they can swim above twenty miles for the same amount of time! Penguins take breaths every
minute so they soar by the surface and pounce into the air on occasion, although they can hold their
breath for almost twenty minutes as they dive deep below into the water. Penguins can plunge as deep
as 900 feet. That s 300 times their average height! They are not only so fabulous underwater; penguins
can toboggan across the snow on their bellies or climb over rocks if they need to! Rockhopper
penguins, as one might assume, are named after their ability to hop over rocks easier than most other

penguins, and can leap back into the air as high as three times their height and grab onto perches

The Power Of Delaying Gratification Summary
lex Lickerman, author of the article The Power of Delaying Gratification , discuss the experiment
psychologist Walter Mischel did on the kids to understand their self control. Basically, he gives a
group of children a cookie and gives them to option either they could eat the cookie immediately or
they can wait until he comes back, however, if they wait for him to back they will receive another
cookie. Based on his experiment he concludes that the kid who resist to eat a cookie and wait for him
to gain another cookie they will do better in the school than the kids who did not resist. For instances,
they will get higher sat scores than who eat the cookie immediately. Likewise, I attempt to do the
same experiment instead of using cookie I use candy because teenager loves candy, therefore it will be
difficult for them to refuse candy. So, I did experiment on students who are in regular classes and they
are in different grades. Based on the results, I realize that only freshman and sophomore find it
difficult to candy but seniors are also found difficult to resist the candy. This interacts with Walter
ideology because I did experiment students who are in regular class and Walton states that kids who
resist eating candy straightway will do better in the school. Therefore, the students find difficult to
resist the candy so they are in regular class instead of honors class. My textbook says about the
delaying gratification is the children who had more self control in preschool were more successful in
high school, they will less likely to take drugs or alcohol when they grow up and they also had more
stable marriages. On the contrary, children who had poor self control in preschool were not as
successful in high school, and they will have academic and behavioral problems. My note says about
the delaying gratification is the kids who are able to wait to receive reward shows they have a lot of
patience and they will be very successful in future. According to the article The Power of Delaying
Gratification, it says in contrast, the children who had the most trouble delaying gratification had
higher rates of incarceration as adults and were more likely to struggle with drug and alcohol
addiction . The author

Failure of the Belmont Report
One. The Belmont Report has failed to distinguish different sources including the kinds of
vulnerability or to map particular protections to particular vulnerabilities (Rogers Lange, 2013). This
can be a problem because different kinds of vulnerability justify different responses. Nickel (2006)
claims that there are two overlapping senses of vulnerability at work with the Belmont Report and in
following human research ethics guidelines (p.2141). The first relates to the capacity to give informed
consent, which the Belmont Report connects to the principle of respect for autonomy (Nickel, 2006).
The second is the sense of vulnerability, as explained by Nickel, which relates to the Belmont Reports
principles of justice meaning fairness (Nickel, 2006). The concern here is that vulnerable groups may
be overrepresented in research for example, when the group lacks understanding or power to refuse
participation (Rogers Lange, 2013). This is explicit in the Belmont Report. Within the study, it was
also explained that vulnerable groups may be excluded from research and thereby be excluded from
the benefits of participation in clinical trials and subsequent access to treatments for which research
evidence exists (Nickel, 2006). Research ethics guidelines that simply list groups likely to be
vulnerable run a risk of stereotyping, and of the consequent harms of unjustified exclusion of research
(Rogers Lange, 2013, p. 2141). Yes, I believe the authors within the article

Comparing Theories Of Counselling From Psychodynamic,...
Introduction
The aim of this assignment is to compare and contrast two theories or theorists of counselling from
psychodynamic, humanistic or cognitive behavioural traditions and also to assess their strengths and
weaknesses. This essay will focus on exploring the contrasting ideas and approaches of Carl Rogers
who is a key figure associated with the person centered approach and Fritz Perls who developed
Gestalt therapy. Although they are both regarded as humanistic counsellors, they share a very different
approach when working with clients. I have chosen to analyse these two theorists because of their
contrasting styles, in particular my curiosity was sparked after viewing both Perls and Rogers sessions
with Gloria. I found it fascinating how such different styles could still be successful in therapy. In
particular fritz perls style really grabbed my attention as at first, I was really put off by his seemingly
rude demeanour. However, after reading information on gestalt therapy and the ideas behind it I
started to understand how it works.
This essay will begin with a short background on Carl Rogers and Fritz Perls and an overview of the
beginnings of their approaches to counselling followed by a discussion on their views on the theory of
personality and problems in living then a discussion on Rogers and Perls theory of change. I will then
give a personal evaluation on each theorist s strengths and weaknesses and include which approach
would be the most beneficial for

Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat Essay example
Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat
For my book report, I have chosen the novel Never Cry Wolf by Farley
Mowat. In this report I will give a brief summary of the novel as well as why I have chosen it for my
report. Finally, I will give my reactions to the novel with regards to its analysis of the place of human
beings in nature, whether the destiny of humans and nature is intertwined, and how nature is regarded
by the different religious and political philosophies demonstrated in the novel.
Never Cry Wolf is based upon the true story of the author s experiences during two years spent as a

Canada during the mid nineteen fifties. When Mowat is sent on his expedition

humankind (society) seems today to have more of a desire and a need to get back to nature and the
simple life. The spirit of peace that emanates from Mowat s book allows one to focus on what is
possible when one has time to reflect In this I mean that Never Cry Wolf seemed to hold a more
meaningful message for modern times. As well I found the style of writing in the Mowat novel to be
clearer then in Siddhartha. These were some of the factors that combined to produce a situation where
Never Cry Wolf captured my attention more than Siddhartha. It was for these reasons that I chose the
novel by Farley Mowat.
In my opinion, Never Cry Wolf placed humans in the role of intruders as far as nature is concerned.
Mowat cites several instances where humans violate nature and represent a threat to its sanctity. Even
though this threat is not reciprocated by nature, humans continue to infringe upon nature and then
deny the consequences of their actions. Two prevalent examples of this occur: when
Mowat accidentally wanders into the wolves den when the wolves are there, and again when he
discovers a herd of deer that have been slaughtered by hunters.

Dick s ideal, was to marry the perfect woman, Nicole, write his fantastic book psychology for
psychiatrists and be the best psychiatrist in the world. At the beginning of his career all of these things
were attainable, but slowly each one of these things slipped away to falter his life. These things were
not only just an ideal or a plan in life, they were a necessity for Dick. He dreamed of them all and it
was from then on that it became an obsession. This lead to Dick s belief that his life couldn t be

Nicole, although beautiful and elegant, was flawed. Described by Dick as a beautiful empty shell , she

Honoring The Elderly s Ministry
Honoring the Elderly s Ministry The definition of Honoring the Elderly in Ministry, is to include them
in the core ministries of the church. Incorporating the seniors/elderly into the life of the church
requires careful examination of the facets of the church life. Uniquely, this will reveal ways to tap into
the decades of wisdom and experience they offer. Notably, there are numerous benefits to having a
senior/elderly ministry that include folding bulletins, mailing copies, and or just volunteering where
ever needed. However, it is also important to sow into their spiritual life as well as emotional support
(Saucer 26 27). Furthermore, incorporating seniors/elderly into the life of the church, I would suggest

As a Christian, we are to do more than pray, we are to represent God to all ages and all people. Thank
God for the elderly in my life, spending time listening to their stories has truly encouraged me also

of them (Saucer 20 23). Therefore, in honoring the seniors/elderly, include them in the functions of the
church. Chiefly, I gleaned, considering they are seasoned in years, with some, doubt and questions
about their faith troubles their mind. However, allow them who faithfully serve God to continue to
what God has called them to do. Not to mention, involving them in the functions of the church keeps
their mind stayed on Jesus, a strong mind. Another key point, who better is capable of leading also
teaching others how to pray, the senior/elderly. Furthermore, in my opinion, the Mother Board is
where this should begin. Accordingly, I would suggest to my church to establish a Mother Board
Ministry in honoring the seniors/elderly. A ministry that is not recognized in churches today. And yet,

Essay On German Americans After Ww2
During the First World War, the American government encouraged suspicion of German Americans.
The government was at pains to discourage hostility towards Islamic Americans. The land of your
ancestors could have been an enemy of the United States. There are also many different Arab states,

the 9/11 terrorist attack, the United States started being more careful as to who to trust. The United

heartbreaking. I think that the majority of the Germans didn t even want a war to go on against the
United States. Most Americans took the issues and complications, creating anger and hatred towards
the Germans, creating rumors about them who were actually innocent. Both Germans, Arabs and
Islams gone through discrimination after the tragedy. Many Americans who lost their loved ones grew

no one ever tried to hear their side of the story. As long as anyone knew, it was either a whole country

Skills and Intellect of President Barack Obama Essay
President Barack Obama is a name known around the world thanks to his political triumphs and
historical presidency. He has an extensive educational background and has a strong political resume to
match. In the book Reading Obama by James Kloppenberg, Kloppenberg not only applauded
President Obama s educational journey as a means to developing the necessary skills to be a leader,
but also viewed Obama as an intellectual and philosophical president which he believes are unique
characteristics only present in a minority of American historians. Kloppenberg uses Obama s own

Pragmatism deals with a straight forward way of thinking and is centered on solving problems. As
stated in lecture eight, pragmatists promoted a philosophy of relativism not universalism (Professor
Garcia Lecture 8). This means that, in terms of pragmatism, one does what they consider is essential
instead of following a natural law based upon philosophical principles and morality. In any matter, the
truth as to what the right thing to do is relative to the situation and there is not a universally correct
answer for all eternity. What is considered right changes over the years and law is meant to be
changed as economic and political situations vary. The political philosophy of pragmatism helps
Kloppenberg support his argument that Obama is more than just intelligent, that he is an intellectual.
Kloppenberg states that, Obama is also very much an intellectual along with being a politician
(Kloppenberg). He stresses that unlike other Presidents who were extremely intelligent, President
Obama is able to interrogate his own convictions to place them in a broader cultural and historical
context by imaginatively scrutinizing them from a position centuries in the future without abandoning
them (Kloppenberg). Other Presidents, such as Richard Nixon, were considered extremely intelligent
in Kloppenberg s opinion; however, he believed that was a result of opportunism and the goal of
career advancement. Furthermore,

The Environment Is An Important Aspect Of Shaping People...
Signage Environment Environment is an important aspect in shaping people and objects. The
environment can contribute to the presentation of a signage of an establishment to sell merchandise or
food. To make a place presentable, people usually focus on the environment that it s in. Whether the
environment is unkempt or upscale will determine if cliental will eat or shop there. For example, if
someone were to go to a restaurant they ve never been to, they d be observant of the surroundings.
They would question if the restaurant looked clean, if the food was safe to eat, if the people who make
the food are clean, and if the restaurant itself was presentable. When people go to famous eateries,
they expect the consistency in each restaurant. It s good for the business itself to keep its consistency
for travelers and returning customers.

Essay on Rebellion for Change
In life there are many situations where rebellion is required for change and improvement. Some are
simple, like growing up and learning not to do certain things and others are more complex like when a
group of people stand up for what they believe, for example, women s rights and black s rights. I
believe that rebellion is healthy for any growing society. There are many things that we do not agree
with, whether it is the law or our parent s instructions. By rebelling we can change our society and/or
ourselves for better.
One type of rebellion is when a child or teenage goes against the rules set in order to find out what is
wrong with going against the rules. To illustrate, a child walks into a candy store with his mother. He

Most rebellion occurs in either small groups or singularly but occasionally they are bigger.
What do women s rights and black s rights have in common? They are both acts of rebellion that were
required to direct society towards the better light. The fights for rights that have occurred throughout
American history are undeniable. People had to go through unbelievable amounts of misery to get us

people before us did. Many people in history have shown incredible amounts of courage; they have
stood up and fought for what they believed was right; this is the way to change.
Rebellion is like a person with a favorite old pair of shoes. A person may be afraid to throw away their

Innovation In Transport Industry Essay
Innovation in Transport Industry
Introduction
After Singapore independence, Singapore s bus service was provided by numerous small operators
and was highly split with both service and safety standards were low. The aggressive competition by
the private bus companies led to poor service, lack of incorporation and network economies eventually
resulting in the immediate bankruptcy of many of these companies. The government moved in a team
of civil servants, take over the fragmented companies and put together a tight outfit, making
reasonable profits. The new entity, SBS Transit, was eventually nationalized.

As with much of Latin America, the support for insurgency came from peasants and indigenous
communities who had been displaced from their lands by elites (UNDP 2006). The government
officially became engaged in counterinsurgency in 1960, following a coup attempt and the
establishment of formal revolutionary groups under the URNG umbrella. However, it is noteworthy
that during its initial years, instead of large scale guerrilla war, the conflict took the shape of political
oppression. It was not until 1966 that there was a clear military counterinsurgency effort (Ball, 1999).
Deaths and assassinations per year did not surpass 500 in the first two decades (Ibid). However, during
the 80s, this number rose to approximately 18,000 deaths per year (Ibid). Army numbers surpassed
40,000, with the support of 500,000 members of civil patrols, while the URNG had a total of
approximately 2,000 soldiers (Keel, 1998). Some scholars have gone as far as suggesting that guerrilla
groups did not have the strength or numbers to pose a serious threat, and that the war went on for as
long as it did merely because it allowed the government to eliminate opposition of all types
(Chapman, 2001). The continuation of the war benefitted the two main actors: insurgent groups who
wanted to achieve national prominence, and the government, whose power and cruelty was justified as
counterinsurgency. Paramilitary groups stood

Both chip cards and magnetic stripe cards are broadly used all over the world in diverse areas of

Hydroelectric Dams and Floods Essay
Hydroelectric dams are essential to preventing floods. Many of these dams are located in places that
are bordered by water such as Mississippi and Ohio. Most dams are created to control river flow,

power which is the case here (Smith).
How does hydroelectric dams work? There s a power source that is used to turn a piece called turbine
then turns a metal shaft to an electric generator, and that creates electricity. (Perlman) The mechanical
energy converts to electricity so the water flows through the dams. It could also work without dams,

Some environmental impacts the hydroelectric power plant may give off qualities of the greenhouse

cause the quality and amount of water in the river to downstream. That causes the fishes to stop
migrating upstream to spawn. You can reduce these impacts by requiring little flows downstream of a

There can be major obstacles that hinder team effectiveness. Each individual must have well defined
responsibilities and communication skills.
Not having well defined responsibilities within the group is a major hazard. If the responsibilities are
not laid out properly in the early stages, one person may think that another is doing a particular task
and it may never get done. This can result in finger pointing and conflicts within the team.
Communications can break down when members do not know how to be clear and concise in their
wording and are not open or honest. A member may agree with the team in choosing a topic but not be
honest with other team members. They may hold a grudge or think their ideas were not considered.
My question is how can a team member s ideas be considered if they were never properly provided?
Poor Selection of Team Members Poor selection of the members of a team could occur for several
reasons. The abilities of the team may be so diverse that working together is virtually impossible.
Another reason could be the abilities of each team member. There could possibly be personality
conflicts that cause failure of the team. A team well built is committed to each other and have common
goals. Without the commitment and goal, there is no way a team will succeed. Des Dearlove (2002)

In the years after the Second World War, people created uncountable numbers of historiographical
research on various topics related to the war, such as military tactics in battles, individual groups of
men during their time in service, and other such subjects. Not much surprise exists then, that women s
actions in World War II eventually would also gain interest and publication for the public, though it
did not gain an undivided focus until the advent of women s and social history grew momentum.
Women, despite being half of the world s population, doubtlessly had acted during the war years,

Likely due to the plethora of evidence this sub group can give, the oldest sources on this particular
subject come from a domestic lens, which the following sources indicate in their arguments. The
monograph Eating for Victory: Food Rationing and the politics of Domesticity by Amy Bentley
centers on the American mindset concerning food that changed during World War II; her thesis
maintaining that the Roosevelt administration s decision to institute legal rationing, proven in its
ethical rightness in that this choice ultimately bettered the average American s diet. Bentley justifies it
through the apparent constraints of the massive undertaking the World War would require through the
cultural and social approaches, which suited the gendered approach the author applied to this matter.
And while she mentions economic and military approaches as well, a deeper analysis of the
propaganda towards women in families is the central emphasis in many chapters of the book. Bentley
collected information from many archival records such as the United States Food Administration and
information contained within the Office of War Information (OWI). Her final conclusion is that the
rationing process on the American home front during World War II had a positive outcome. Through
these conclusions, however, develops a contrasting opinion from other historians; as her near

Summary Of Juvenile Recidivism
Recommendation Overall, I would not recommend ART as an intervention tool to prevent future
recidivism of violent juvenile offenders, mostly due to ART not having a significant effect on violent
felony recidivism in the Washington study. ART shows promise on promoting prosocial behaviors that
significantly reduce overall juvenile recidivism; however, further research is needed. Currently,
Washington State is in a good place to recreate their 1999 2003 study because (1) the state has utilized
ART since 1999 and, at this point, all courts and ART trainers should be operating at a highly
competent level, (2) the state has shown a dedication to evidence based practices, and (3) the initial
study occurred nearly two decades ago and is in need of an update. However, an updated study would
require some updated methodology.
First, the state must conduct the study with a random assignment process consistent across all
participating courts instead of the pseudo random assignment previously ... Show more content on

Second, to better capture the long term effects of ART, WSIPP should track each participant s criminal
records annually throughout their lives and regularly update their study results because, previously,
WSIPP only checked recidivism up to 18 months after ART. Additionally, this more accurate
information on long term effects may better inform the cost benefit analysis. Third, further
investigation must examine why there was no significant reduction of violent felony recidivism. One
way that this information could come out is through the use of the community functioning follow up
in the New York implementation evaluation which tasked probation/parole officers with rating the
juveniles to gauge their community functioning within six different settings: Home and Family,
School,

What Are The Similarities Between Germany And Japan
Introduction Since the end of WWII, numerous changes had taken place in both Germany and Japan in
terms of historical consciousness regarding the war crimes and atrocities they had committed during
the war. From the perspective of the war crimes, the Third Reich and Imperial Japan were somehow
similar, since both countries had slaughtered POWs and innocent civilians, conducted human
experimentations, enslaved POWs, and so on. Despite the similarities between these two former axis
powers, in recent years, we frequently hear news about Japan s neighboring countries blaming Japan
on the absence of an official apology for its wartime atrocities and the understatement of its wartime
historical issues and war crimes in Japanese history textbook. In contrast, we seldom hear about any
complaints towards Germany on its unsolved historical issues or any requests for Germany to
apologize, simply because Germany had done more than enough to reconcile with the victimized
countries. This situation reflects a fundamental difference in the historical consciousness between ...

Especially, history textbooks were produced by private publishing companies and used solely in
secondary schools (Arai, 114). In addition, another great change they made to the history textbooks
was the content, in which the textbook writers mainly focused on the rise and fall of China and the
development of modern Japan but barely mentioned any western or international history (Arai, 114).
This modification undoubtedly was conveying a clear message to the students that the former teacher
of Japan has failed to continue its leadership in Asia, and instead, Japan is striving to take the
leadership from China. In the prewar period, the history consciousness of Japan served as a tool to
reverse the old image of Japan and motivate the Japanese young generations to dedicate themselves to
constructing a new order in East

Jainism
In Jainism, there are three main principles that its followers attempt to achieve: Ahisma, Aparigraha,
and Anekantwad. Respectively, these terms translate to non violence, non attachment, and non
absolutism. Though they seem different, they are all interconnected principles in Jainism. For
example, Ahisma is the concept that any and all forms of life are valuable and should be respected.
This can then be related to Aparigraha, which emphasizes a non attachment to the material world.
Therefore, if attachment to the physical realm is limited, needs and desires are also limited, which
causes the damage dealt to the environment to be limited, as well. Finally, Anekantwad, which is a
concept that stresses remaining open minded and non judgmental

Reflection Paper On Inequality
The lecture presented in class (Inequality in Education and Employment) was a particularly salient
topic for me. As part of my Bachelor s degree, in Philosophy, I was required to present and defend a
thesis. My thesis was a defense of democracy from the problems of distributive justice. Over the
course of two years, I spent countless hours reading, writing, and debating the fine points on
inequality. Therefore, the subject matter is not something new for me, nor do I think there is a simple
solution.
Reflecting on the information from the lecture, there were various aspects of inequality that coincided
with my research; however, there were two areas that I thought required further consideration and
contemplation. First, nowhere in the slides, in the lecture, nor in the discussions, was justice
mentioned. I find that particularly odd as the preliminary point of any inquiry into inequality should
start from the structural foundations of equality viz., justice.
Second, I was slightly confused by the slide (23) titled Workers with Disabilities Earn Less Than Their
Peers . The slide indicated that people with disabilities (PWDs) earned 37% less pay than people
without disabilities (PWODs). While I looked at the slide s bar graph, I could visually see that the
37% figure did not match what was on the graph. This forced me to do some quick math on what was
represented. According to the values on the slide, the actual wage gap was 21%. While this is still
significant, it is not

  • 2. The Scale Of Trade Credit Trade credit, as defined by (Paul and Boden, 2008) allows customers to delay payments for goods or services to a supplier for a specified period of time. Alternatively, Laffer (1970) defines trade credit as a means through which money is transferred from economic entities possessing idle money balances to entities in need of additional money balances (Laffer, 1970, pp. 242). Globally, the scale of trade credit is significant such that in most developed countries it exceeds short term bank credit (Blasio, 2003) and is an important way of financing firms working capital (Peel and Wilson, 1996; Paul and Boden, 2008). At least 30% of all credit based sales in developed and emerging markets are paid outside the agreed terms, with fewer paid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They did not, however, explain how their results relate to the theoretical literature on the financing motive for trade credit. Summers and Wilson (1999), using data from 655 UK firms, investigated the theoretical motivations for the use of trade credit by firms for purchases. The demand for credit was modelled as a function of transaction costs motivations, financing motivations, operational considerations, seller compliance issues, supplier marketing, and environmental issues, while controlling for firm characteristics such as size and industry. The results suggest that trade credit is generally perceived as a cheap financing option, giving support for the financing motive. These findings for the UK environment seem to contrast with Elliehausen Wolken (1993) who in their study of trade credit demand in the USA state that sellers that extend trade credit typically offer cash discounts to encourage early payment. The most obvious reason as to why customers and indeed businesses use trade credit could be attributed to the transactional theory. In the absence of trade credit, firms must pay for purchases upon delivery. Seasonal businesses may demand extended credit terms due to their irregular cash flows and to achieve balance in their cash conversion cycle (Wilson and Summers, 2002; Paul, 2004). • 3. March 8th Research Paper March 8th is International Women s Day, defined by YES! Magazine as: a day started on March 8, 1857, in New York City by Garment workers who staged a protest against inhumane working conditions and low wages. Despite being attacked and dissolved by police officers, the movement continued. By 1908 the movement had grown to 15,000 women in the New York City march alone. It also expanded to include child labor, shorter working hours, and voting rights. The slogan for this rally became Bread and Roses with bread symbolizing economic security and roses for better living standards. May 1908, the Socialist party named the first International Working Women s Day on the last Sunday in February. The date has moved around slightly but remains around the first of March, so it makes sense for it to be on March 8th. http://www.yesmagazine.org/people power/where did international women s day come from As a working woman, I am grateful that such a day exists and that throughout the years it has helped bring light ... • 5. The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde Psychological Freud s belief was that mental health and psychological wellness requires a harmonious relationship between the different parts of the mind and a lack of harmony can lead to neurosis. Plato invented the original tripartite and Freud expanded on it in 1923. The tripartite is divided into the sections: The Superego, the Ego, and the Id. The Superego is basically the conscience of our mind. The Ego is consciousness created by the combination of the Id and Superego. The Id is having thoughts of instincts and drives which are necessary to satisfy. In Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray, we see the main characters representing the Superego, Ego, and Id. The Superego is representative of our conscience and is opposite of the id. Superego comes from Latin and really means above the ego . It is the greatest power of our mind. The superego is what most people would call the conscience or where a god would be. The Superego is a basis for how we view the world, social norms, and morals. Also, as the Superego portrays the conscience, it holds our sense of wrong and right. We have to follow the needs of the Superego or else we might feel some guilt or shame. Freud said that the Ego is the mediator between the Id and Superego and the outside world. For the Ego to do its job, it has to delay the desires of the Id until it is socially acceptable to give the Id the needs. So our conscious driven Ego is a balance of the Id and Superego, evening out our primal needs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Plato s Republic As A Guide Let me tell you about the perfect republic. First, I ll describe it to you using Plato s Republic as a guide. Then, I ll explain whether it is better to live in Plato s republic or in a timarchy, oligarchy, democracy, or a tyranny. Plato s books create an ideal city where there are the producers (farmers, craftsmen, etc.), the auxiliaries, also known as the warriors, and the guardians, they are the rulers of this city. Each of these groups must perform its job, and only that one job, and each must have the right amount of amount of power in relation to the other groups. This then brings us to the myth of metals, the guardians are gold, the auxiliaries are silver, and the producers are iron and bronze (415a). The reason why the guardians are gold is because they are the most precious and revered, and the quality of the metal or soul goes down the farther you go down the class system. But before I get ahead of myself how are guardians supposed to be rulers? Are they born knowing how to rule? No, they are tested at a young age, and are brought to terrors and then cast into pleasures testing them to see if they are perfect if they do not pass this test they are to serve under the one who passes the trials (413d). Now Socrates was a daring and creative man, and laid out three ideas known as the three waves of ridiculousness. Of course, we do not see the hurricane that comes much later we simply see a butterfly going about its business. How can a butterfly accomplish such a monumental feat and could a human do it too? Well, as with all actions, it requires energy. In a recent commercial by Chevron, it is implied that oil is the source of energy for human doers. Filled with images of patriotism, inventions, and all the wonders of mankind s advancement, Chevron shows all the positive accomplishments doers can do. • 16. The Power Of Delaying Gratification Summary lex Lickerman, author of the article The Power of Delaying Gratification , discuss the experiment psychologist Walter Mischel did on the kids to understand their self control. Basically, he gives a group of children a cookie and gives them to option either they could eat the cookie immediately or they can wait until he comes back, however, if they wait for him to back they will receive another cookie. Based on his experiment he concludes that the kid who resist to eat a cookie and wait for him to gain another cookie they will do better in the school than the kids who did not resist. For instances, they will get higher sat scores than who eat the cookie immediately. Likewise, I attempt to do the same experiment instead of using cookie I use candy because teenager loves candy, therefore it will be difficult for them to refuse candy. So, I did experiment on students who are in regular classes and they are in different grades. Based on the results, I realize that only freshman and sophomore find it difficult to candy but seniors are also found difficult to resist the candy. This interacts with Walter ideology because I did experiment students who are in regular class and Walton states that kids who resist eating candy straightway will do better in the school. Therefore, the students find difficult to resist the candy so they are in regular class instead of honors class. My textbook says about the delaying gratification is the children who had more self control in preschool were more successful in high school, they will less likely to take drugs or alcohol when they grow up and they also had more stable marriages. On the contrary, children who had poor self control in preschool were not as successful in high school, and they will have academic and behavioral problems. My note says about the delaying gratification is the kids who are able to wait to receive reward shows they have a lot of patience and they will be very successful in future. According to the article The Power of Delaying Gratification, it says in contrast, the children who had the most trouble delaying gratification had higher rates of incarceration as adults and were more likely to struggle with drug and alcohol addiction . • 17. Failure of the Belmont Report One. The Belmont Report has failed to distinguish different sources including the kinds of vulnerability or to map particular protections to particular vulnerabilities (Rogers Lange, 2013). This can be a problem because different kinds of vulnerability justify different responses. Nickel (2006) claims that there are two overlapping senses of vulnerability at work with the Belmont Report and in following human research ethics guidelines (p.2141). The first relates to the capacity to give informed consent, which the Belmont Report connects to the principle of respect for autonomy (Nickel, 2006). The second is the sense of vulnerability, as explained by Nickel, which relates to the Belmont Reports principles of justice meaning fairness (Nickel, 2006). The concern here is that vulnerable groups may be overrepresented in research for example, when the group lacks understanding or power to refuse participation (Rogers Lange, 2013). This is explicit in the Belmont Report. Within the study, it was also explained that vulnerable groups may be excluded from research and thereby be excluded from the benefits of participation in clinical trials and subsequent access to treatments for which research evidence exists (Nickel, 2006). Research ethics guidelines that simply list groups likely to be vulnerable run a risk of stereotyping, and of the consequent harms of unjustified exclusion of research (Rogers Lange, 2013, p. 2141). • 18. Comparing Theories Of Counselling From Psychodynamic,... Introduction The aim of this assignment is to compare and contrast two theories or theorists of counselling from psychodynamic, humanistic or cognitive behavioural traditions and also to assess their strengths and weaknesses. This essay will focus on exploring the contrasting ideas and approaches of Carl Rogers who is a key figure associated with the person centered approach and Fritz Perls who developed Gestalt therapy. Although they are both regarded as humanistic counsellors, they share a very different approach when working with clients. I have chosen to analyse these two theorists because of their contrasting styles, in particular my curiosity was sparked after viewing both Perls and Rogers sessions with Gloria. I found it fascinating how such different styles could still be successful in therapy. In particular fritz perls style really grabbed my attention as at first, I was really put off by his seemingly rude demeanour. However, after reading information on gestalt therapy and the ideas behind it I started to understand how it works. This essay will begin with a short background on Carl Rogers and Fritz Perls and an overview of the beginnings of their approaches to counselling followed by a discussion on their views on the theory of personality and problems in living then a discussion on Rogers and Perls theory of change. I will then give a personal evaluation on each theorist s strengths and weaknesses and include which approach would be the most beneficial for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As well I found the style of writing in the Mowat novel to be clearer then in Siddhartha. These were some of the factors that combined to produce a situation where Never Cry Wolf captured my attention more than Siddhartha. It was for these reasons that I chose the novel by Farley Mowat. In my opinion, Never Cry Wolf placed humans in the role of intruders as far as nature is concerned. Mowat cites several instances where humans violate nature and represent a threat to its sanctity. Even though this threat is not reciprocated by nature, humans continue to infringe upon nature and then deny the consequences of their actions. Two prevalent examples of this occur: when Mowat accidentally wanders into the wolves den when the wolves are there, and again when he discovers a herd of deer that have been slaughtered by hunters. The government officially became engaged in counterinsurgency in 1960, following a coup attempt and the establishment of formal revolutionary groups under the URNG umbrella. However, it is noteworthy that during its initial years, instead of large scale guerrilla war, the conflict took the shape of political oppression. It was not until 1966 that there was a clear military counterinsurgency effort (Ball, 1999). Deaths and assassinations per year did not surpass 500 in the first two decades (Ibid). Poor Selection of Team Members Poor selection of the members of a team could occur for several reasons. The abilities of the team may be so diverse that working together is virtually impossible. Another reason could be the abilities of each team member. There could possibly be personality conflicts that cause failure of the team. A team well built is committed to each other and have common goals. Without the commitment and goal, there is no way a team will succeed. Des Dearlove (2002) wrote, Professor Belbin discovered that certain combinations of personality types performed more successfully than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Eating For Victory Chapter Summary In the years after the Second World War, people created uncountable numbers of historiographical research on various topics related to the war, such as military tactics in battles, individual groups of men during their time in service, and other such subjects. Not much surprise exists then, that women s actions in World War II eventually would also gain interest and publication for the public, though it did not gain an undivided focus until the advent of women s and social history grew momentum. Women, despite being half of the world s population, doubtlessly had acted during the war years, although limited by social gender expectations of the period. As time passes from 1945, more interest in the lives of women and their effect on the war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likely due to the plethora of evidence this sub group can give, the oldest sources on this particular subject come from a domestic lens, which the following sources indicate in their arguments. The monograph Eating for Victory: Food Rationing and the politics of Domesticity by Amy Bentley centers on the American mindset concerning food that changed during World War II; her thesis maintaining that the Roosevelt administration s decision to institute legal rationing, proven in its ethical rightness in that this choice ultimately bettered the average American s diet. Bentley justifies it through the apparent constraints of the massive undertaking the World War would require through the cultural and social approaches, which suited the gendered approach the author applied to this matter. And while she mentions economic and military approaches as well, a deeper analysis of the propaganda towards women in families is the central emphasis in many chapters of the book. Bentley collected information from many archival records such as the United States Food Administration and information contained within the Office of War Information (OWI). Her final conclusion is that the rationing process on the American home front during World War II had a positive outcome. Through these conclusions, however, develops a contrasting opinion from other historians; as her near overgeneralization of American unity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Summary Of Juvenile Recidivism Recommendation Overall, I would not recommend ART as an intervention tool to prevent future recidivism of violent juvenile offenders, mostly due to ART not having a significant effect on violent felony recidivism in the Washington study. ART shows promise on promoting prosocial behaviors that significantly reduce overall juvenile recidivism; however, further research is needed. Currently, Washington State is in a good place to recreate their 1999 2003 study because (1) the state has utilized ART since 1999 and, at this point, all courts and ART trainers should be operating at a highly competent level, (2) the state has shown a dedication to evidence based practices, and (3) the initial study occurred nearly two decades ago and is in need of an update. However, an updated study would require some updated methodology. First, the state must conduct the study with a random assignment process consistent across all participating courts instead of the pseudo random assignment previously ... Second, to better capture the long term effects of ART, WSIPP should track each participant s criminal records annually throughout their lives and regularly update their study results because, previously, WSIPP only checked recidivism up to 18 months after ART. Additionally, this more accurate information on long term effects may better inform the cost benefit analysis. Third, further investigation must examine why there was no significant reduction of violent felony recidivism. One way that this information could come out is through the use of the community functioning follow up in the New York implementation evaluation which tasked probation/parole officers with rating the juveniles to gauge their community functioning within six different settings: Home and Family, School, ... • 44. What Are The Similarities Between Germany And Japan Introduction Since the end of WWII, numerous changes had taken place in both Germany and Japan in terms of historical consciousness regarding the war crimes and atrocities they had committed during the war. From the perspective of the war crimes, the Third Reich and Imperial Japan were somehow similar, since both countries had slaughtered POWs and innocent civilians, conducted human experimentations, enslaved POWs, and so on. Despite the similarities between these two former axis powers, in recent years, we frequently hear news about Japan s neighboring countries blaming Japan on the absence of an official apology for its wartime atrocities and the understatement of its wartime historical issues and war crimes in Japanese history textbook. In contrast, we seldom hear about any complaints towards Germany on its unsolved historical issues or any requests for Germany to apologize, simply because Germany had done more than enough to reconcile with the victimized countries. This situation reflects a fundamental difference in the historical consciousness between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Especially, history textbooks were produced by private publishing companies and used solely in secondary schools (Arai, 114). In addition, another great change they made to the history textbooks was the content, in which the textbook writers mainly focused on the rise and fall of China and the development of modern Japan but barely mentioned any western or international history (Arai, 114). This modification undoubtedly was conveying a clear message to the students that the former teacher of Japan has failed to continue its leadership in Asia, and instead, Japan is striving to take the leadership from China. In the prewar period, the history consciousness of Japan served as a tool to reverse the old image of Japan and motivate the Japanese young generations to dedicate themselves to constructing a new order in East ... • 45. Jainism In Jainism, there are three main principles that its followers attempt to achieve: Ahisma, Aparigraha, and Anekantwad. Respectively, these terms translate to non violence, non attachment, and non absolutism. Though they seem different, they are all interconnected principles in Jainism. For example, Ahisma is the concept that any and all forms of life are valuable and should be respected. This can then be related to Aparigraha, which emphasizes a non attachment to the material world. Therefore, if attachment to the physical realm is limited, needs and desires are also limited, which causes the damage dealt to the environment to be limited, as well. Finally, Anekantwad, which is a concept that stresses remaining open minded and non judgmental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Reflection Paper On Inequality The lecture presented in class (Inequality in Education and Employment) was a particularly salient topic for me. As part of my Bachelor s degree, in Philosophy, I was required to present and defend a thesis. My thesis was a defense of democracy from the problems of distributive justice. Over the course of two years, I spent countless hours reading, writing, and debating the fine points on inequality. Therefore, the subject matter is not something new for me, nor do I think there is a simple solution. Reflecting on the information from the lecture, there were various aspects of inequality that coincided with my research; however, there were two areas that I thought required further consideration and contemplation. First, nowhere in the slides, in the lecture, nor in the discussions, was justice mentioned. I find that particularly odd as the preliminary point of any inquiry into inequality should start from the structural foundations of equality viz., justice. Second, I was slightly confused by the slide (23) titled Workers with Disabilities Earn Less Than Their Peers . The slide indicated that people with disabilities (PWDs) earned 37% less pay than people without disabilities (PWODs). While I looked at the slide s bar graph, I could visually see that the 37% figure did not match what was on the graph. This forced me to do some quick math on what was represented. According to the values on the slide, the actual wage gap was 21%. While this is still significant, it is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
