The Reality Of Bertrandes Innocence Essay
It seems as though in today s society, suspicion lies in every corner. No one trusts anyone anymore,
everyone lies, everyone steals, everyone pretends to be someone they are not. However true or false
these statements might be, there is a need in today s society to be able to explain everything, coming
up with every possible lie or predicament within every story. Natalie Davis is from today s society,
and once again, she has found the need to investigate Bertrande Guerre s role within The Return of
Martin Guerre. The only pieces of evidence that are reliable come from Jean de Coras, the main judge
in the trial. However, Davis seems to have ignored his findings, and founded her own. For most of her
points, there is no written evidence to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just the fact that Martin abandoned her and their new son goes to show that he was not very loyal or
interested in his family. Even according to Natalie Davis, Bertrande was in ...a marriage in which her
husband understood her little, may have feared her, and surely abandoned her...(34) . Arnaud, on the
other hand, showed great interest in his new family. He showed Bertrande affection and
companionship (Davis, 44). He was successful while farming (Davis, 51), and even became a
merchant by selling grains, wine and wool (Davis, 52). All of the differences between the men were
Natalie Davis main arguments as to why Bertrande should have noticed the varying personalities
between the two men. What she neglects to remind the reader is that there had been eight years from
the time Bertrande had last seen the real Martin Guerre and the time she saw Arnaud. Not only could
she have forgotten her husband s habits, but she could have assumed that he had changed after so
many new experiences and his years in the army. The relationship was described as strained from the
very beginning. In fact, Bertrande was described as going out and playing with Martin s sisters instead
of spending time with her husband. She may not have really gotten to know the real Martin s
personality at all.
While the physical features of the two men were very similar, there were certain features that were
different. Martin was very

The Narrative Of Falling Oil Prices
The narrative of falling oil prices has been played out in financial news as a blessing for consumers
and a bane on the energy sector, namely on oil companies and oil exporting countries. However, a
crucial piece of the narrative has been largely forgotten, and that s the shock that such oil prices have
had on private equity investors in the energy markets for the past year. What was once a lucrative and
seemingly obvious investment into the oil boom of the post recession has, for the last year, turned into
an energy fund disaster for many PE firms. Yet despite the record breaking losses that these funds
have incurred, private equity firms have recently been doubling down in the market, increasing energy
investment to previously unseen levels. Such actions beg the questions: why are PE firms so confident
in the energy sector, and should they be? As the narrative commonly begins, oil prices are way down.
Way way down. In fact, since June 2014, the price of a barrel of oil has been cut in half reaching
levels last seen during the bottom of the 2009 recession. The causes of such rapid declines are best
attributed to a simple supply and demand model. On the supply side, domestic oil production has
doubled in the last six years. As the world s largest crude oil consumer in the world, the US was once
a large and reliable buyer of foreign oil. But with domestic demand for foreign oil waning, exporting
countries such as Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, and Algeria have had to find new

Mr. Sam Walton s Success
Mr. Sam Walton was born in Kingfisher, Oklahoma in 1918. Walton went to the military in 1942 at the
age of 24 and he ended is service in the military in 1945. At this time Walton moved to Newport,
Arkansas. In 1950, the Walton s moved to Bentonville, Arkansas which is where Walton opened his
first retail store Walton s 5 10 (Our History, 2015). The dime store made Walton some money and he
wanted to bring better opportunity and value to his customers so he opened Walmart in 1962 in
Rogers, Arkansas. Walton s competitors thought he was crazy for trying to build a business that would
give customers lower prices and offer great service. They thought his idea would never work (Our
History, 2015). In 1969 with 24 stores booming and over $12.7 million in sales, the company
incorporated as Walmart Stores, Inc. In 1970, Walmart went public and became publicly traded (listing
and selling the company shares on a stock exchange (Moffett, Stonehill, Eiteman, 2015)), selling its
first stock at $16.50 per share. Walton wanted to expand his service to many other towns and states
and he used the money the store profited to finance and expand Walmart. In 1971 Walmart opened its
first distribution center and home office in Bentonville, AK (Our History, 2015).
In the 1980 s, the first Sam s Club opened in OK followed by the first Walmart Supercenter in MO,
which combined the grocery store and general merchandise. David Glass was named CEO. By 1990

Strategic Strategy Of The Mp Program
The 2007 Joint Program Office Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (JPO MRAP) program differed
significantly from normal procurement programs in time of award, selection of vendors,
standardization of equipment design before fielding and level of pre production research. The MRAP
program acquired off the shelf assets which literally saved lives and provided the US time and space
to focus on achieving its stated strategic objectives. The closest process that resembled a rapid fielding
initiative before 2007 was the US Marine Corps Urgent Universal Need Statement (UUNS) . Based on
its overall success, the unique MRAP program paradigm should be formally used for other major
defense acquisition programs in support of combat forces. The strategic ... Show more content on

This realization lead to the Surge strategy developed in late 2006 . The tactical implications of the
surge in a COIN focused execution resulted in risking significantly greater numbers of soldiers to IED
attacks. Two critical vulnerabilities of US forces were the insufficient protection platforms for
transportation and limited road network available to move troops rapidly. The insurgent s ability in
2006 to attack US ground forces with IEDs was a critical capability which compromised US forces
combat mobility and effectiveness. In June 2006, IED incidents reached more than 2,000 per month.
At one point in 2006, coalition forces in Iraq were experiencing almost 100 IEDs per day . The DoD
acquisition strategy supporting the MRAP rapid fielding initiative is nested within the Joint
Capabilities Integration and Development System or JCIDS. Although it was an improvement over the
previous process known as the requirements generation system or RGS, it proved too glacial in
movement due to legislative restrictions and a risk aversion environment within the Pentagon. The
JCIDS was geared along strict cumbersome processes and focused almost exclusively on the
procurement of future based weapons systems. This mitigated any requirement that demanded
purchase in less than 2 to 3 years. The US Marines identified one way to acquire mine resistant
vehicles and in 2004 submitted an Urgent Universal Need Statement (UUNS) for 26 vehicles capable

The Purpose Of Teaching
Introduction.
Teaching in a classroom is like leading a team to the top of a mountain. Teaching especially when
having a class full of children is the ultimate challenge, because they are new for what they are dealing
with, but it can be also a source of fun to deal with these pure natured souls. Teaching students at
higher classes is much easier, because most of them are independent, and they can think more about
what they learn in class. The purpose of chosen teaching as a profession, curriculum, teaching
methods and teacher s roles are discussed in the following.
Purpose.
Teaching is like leadership. Teachers lead their students to achieve their goals during the study period.
It s a great honor to help my students by giving them the encouragement that they need to make their
dreams come true. The main reason of chosen education as a profession is to follow the massage of
Allah to build our planet. The nations can t raise without educated individuals, so I will try to make
my students aware about the ongoing situations around the country and which might be related to the
course I m going to teach. This will help the students in linking the topics which are taught in class to
the events that are happening worldwide.
Curriculum.

This will help my students sharing their knowledge with me and vice versa. Moreover, I will let my
students explain their points and views about any topic to me first and then to their classmates.
Furthermore, I will try to make the teaching and learning process more joyful and flexible so my
students would love attending my classes so they are not going to be absent as long as I m teaching
them. Add to that, if they loved a class they are going to do their best in order to get more knowledge
about that specific subject. This might help my students achieving high marks in other courses as

The Bitter Taste Of Vanilla
As the bitter taste of vanilla extract went down my throat, I wondered how exactly I let this person
fool me. The person in question was my oldest sister. I was around 9 at the time. My parents were out,
leaving my older siblings to watch my 10 year old sister and me. My sister had convinced us that
vanilla extract tasted just vanilla cake. Since both of us were fans of cake, we were excited to drink it.
I should have seen the warning signs. She told us that if we didn t like it, we were not allowed to spit it
out or get a drink of water. We still stupidly agreed to do it. I took a swig of the extract and
immediately spit it out. My sister made me drink more of it. It burned my mouth and left me in tears.
After this horrific incident, my other sister, who had managed to drink it without problem, and I
consoled each other. My sister does not remember this, but I do and it taught me an important
message. Never give anyone, including family, your full trust. Any child that grew up with siblings
has felt the wrath of their brothers or sisters. Whether they are older or younger, siblings can cause a
lot of damage. They can teach you a lot about trust. You always have to wonder why a sibling is being
nice to you for no apparent reason. They were not nice because they loved you, but because they
wanted to do or get something from you. My siblings could be coldhearted for their own gain. I
learned to watch my back. As I grow older, I can see how this small lesson my sister taught

Enlightenment And The Scientific Revolution
Thirty Years War and Scientific Revolution were two major causes that led to the developing of a new
intellectual and philosophical movement called Enlightenment, or the Age of Reason. Religion, power
of human reason, natural law, individualism, hope, progress and many other concepts were combined
into a worldview that contributed to new innovations and changed people s lives and visions. This
period marked the importance of science. By using the scientific method, people were able to make
progress toward a better society.
One of the main characteristics of Enlightenment was reason, which was considered by philosophers
the most significant human aptitude. All ideas and opinions are supported by a specific reason. Logical
arguments were successfully used in science, mathematics, biology, politics, arts. The use of
rationality influenced the appearance of different moral values responsible for a person s behavior or
principles of artistic taste, called ethics and aesthetics.
Isaac Newton had a great impact on eighteenth century intellectuals such as Voltaire, Montesquieu,
Diderot, Smith and others. They believed that Isaac Newton s scientific methods could be used in

Restaurant Business Report
Business report Executive summary As the world gets intricate and complex courtesy of new trends
and social waves, no sector of life seems to be left behind. The hospitality industry is faced with one
of the greatest challenges ever and all attention and focus is certainly geared toward addressing
customer satisfaction. However, without efficient information systems and proper technological
applications, the whole efforts are always insufficient or wasted. The need to upgrade systems and
improve operations is the main strategic objective of most restaurant executives. This report is
therefore an analysis of the need to apply the modern information systems in the industry and embrace
the growing usage of the point of sale system (POS) that has become the industry norm across the
world. In a way, most hoteliers and restaurant owners are confronted with unrelenting demand to
radically transform operations or to exit the market. To avoid the latter, implementation is inevitable.
Introduction In an increasingly competitive global environment, where the search for opportunities
dominates all other undertakings, where resources are less than those who seek them, it becomes
important to find ways and means of sailing through. Businesses across the world are increasingly
responding to these challenges by applying information systems to enhance performance and
efficiency in the operations. The major objective lies in producing high quality goods at the lowest
possible cost. As

Duty Payment Pros And Cons
Duties must be paid for all imported merchandise that is entering the United States. Duty payments
must be made in U.S. currency, certified checks, cashier s checks, or automatic bank drafts such as
ACH. Goods that are produced in Mexico or Canada may be duty free under NAFTA. It is the
responsibility of the importer to correctly classify the items in order to determine the proper duty
payment. The importer must exercise the Harmonized Tariff Schedule to establish the appropriate rate
of duty of all imported articles (NCBFAA Educational Institute, 2017). Additionally, the obligation for
the duty payment is established and sequentially filed at the time that the entry is submitted to CBP.

Diminishes the risks and expenses associated with the managing of paper checks Reduces costs
related to administrative processing Increases the effective control of duty payments and summary
filings Filers that utilize statement processing are able to partake in Automated Clearing House (ACH)
practices According to the CBP website, importers can obtain up to an additional 10 days to pay
duties, taxes, and fees on quota and other special merchandise classes by utilizing the ACH system
(Customs Now, 2017). ACH debit saves the importer, broker, and government costs and lessens the
turn around payment time. According to the CBP website, with ACH debit, the payer transmits
payment authorization to CBP, and CBP send the payment information through the network to the
payer s financial institution (U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 2017). As previously mentioned, all
statements in the Automated Broker Interface (ABI) can be paid in a central site. Each payer (importer
or broker) is assigned a unique number that will be used for all ACH transactions. Once the total of

He believed that minimal role of state in the economy and whether people act out of self interest will
benefit to the society. Invisible hand will regulate the market which at once satisfies self interest and
the needs of the community. Hence Smith s considered political economy as the study of wealth
generation . (Babe 2009: 14) Karl Marx with other economists worked on Labour theory of Value
(Babe: 14) believing that workers have rights to be paid for their work (labour). This is another
important characteristic of classical political economy. But on the other hand he claimed that (to be in
opposition to Adam Smith s theory) free market polarises wealth where rich people get richer and poor
get even poorer. So the public ownership of the means of production is the only way of equal
distribution of wealth. People act out unity and for the good of society. Neoclassical Political
Economy is all about consumers taste and preferences which is valued and preferred more than labour.
Class does not matter at all, but everyone is a consumer and cultural goods and services became
treated as commodity. In this neoclassical period of political economy the main question is how
humans want be most satisfied? And how markets function at the best? (Hesmondhalgh 2007)
Economics became essentially a mathematical deductive system in stark contrast to classical political
economy, which was fully engaged with the

When I Revisited “Some Lessons From The Assembly Line”,

lessons he learned while working his summers away on the factory floor.Adjacent to that propose the
author wanted to show the readers the different ways he learned the lessons, which made him
appreciate his opportunity to go to college. My evidence for this is when the author refers to, These

Being able to create figures using a computer would be the second option if students couldn t create
shapes using their tools, though technology makes life easier but it also hinders learning. If a student
cannot create it on paper how could he or she create it on the computer.
Students will have a greater understanding of the material if they learn using the traditional way , there
are jobs that require the essentials skills of using geometry, one includes becoming an architect. This
requires the skills of geometry because building things use shapes, for a worker to build something he
must make sure everything is just right, a computer program can be wrong and not as precise if you
were to illustrate it by hand.
The belief that all geometric constructions should be done using a drawing program is not better than
the traditional method is wrong because not all students can afford an expensive drawing program, for
example AutoCAD, a 3D drawing program cost $185.00 monthly, or $1470.00 yearly and finally a
whopping $4410 for their three year package. However, a straightedge can be as cheap as 50 cents and
a compass for only $2.99. A student would have to purchase a computer to use said drawing

Groupthink Analysis
This paper looks at the concept of Groupthink from a summarization perspective, touching on the
symptoms and remedies with a few examples.
What is Groupthink
The concept of Groupthink was researched by Irving Janis, and this concept can be described as a
situation where the seeking of a collective group agreement, supersedes an individual action to state
alternatives, critique a position, or express an opinion that is unpopular to the group. The weakening
of mental effectiveness, reality competence and ethical decision that results from in group pressures is
also subsume by Groupthink. (Dattner, 2011, para.2).
To understanding the Groupthink concept, it is wise to look at the reasons why Groupthink occur and
the avoidance of Groupthink. The occurrence of Groupthink is evident when a group makes unpopular
decisions while placed under extreme pressure generated from the group or when ethical predicaments

Actions or decisions taken by every group member must be subjected to a critical evaluation where
the acceptance of criticism should be encouraged by the leader (Rose, 2011, p.39).

group ideas in a parallel approach format (Rose, 2011, p.39).
3. A member of a group should privately discuss current issues and options with trusted associates

4 Assistance of an outsider as an expert should be done in order to challenge the opinions of the core

Three famous historical examples of Groupthink are as follows:
1. The Bay of Pigs invasion. A planned invasion operation into Cuba by the Eisenhower
administration which was accepted by the Kennedy administration with no verification of truth. The

The Dilemma Of Batman
There is a video game called Injustice Gods Among Us where the main plot of the game is based
around the dilemma of is it morally right killing criminals. In the game, the character Joker
manipulates Superman s mind into killing his wife and unborn son by thinking they are one of
Superman s enemies. The Joker also set a nuclear bomb to detonate in Superman s town of Metropolis
when his wife and child die. After the bomb explodes, the Joker is placed into police custody and is
being interrogated by Batman. While being interrogated, Superman comes busting into the jail
wanting to kill the Joker. He and Batman got into an argument based around the fact that they both
had a moral rule that no criminal deserves to die at their hands, including the Joker. Superman states
that the Joker and other likeminded individuals are irredeemable and that their victims deserve justice.
While Batman argues that Superman and other superheroes are not above the law, and that Superman
cannot act as judge, jury, and executioner. The dilemma of the story is based around the question, is it
right to take another s life, no matter how many people an individual has killed? Batman believes that
killing anyone is morally wrong, when Superman believes that killing criminals is morally correct.
Both Consequentialist and Deontologist would view this predicament differently. After the death of his
wife and son, Superman understands why there are people in the world that want to see criminals die.

Pathophysiology Of Fibromyalgia
This disorders pathophysiology manifest itself in a number of ways. These problems are related to
central nervous system, genetics, psychological and environmental stress. Many times fibromyalgia
will be present along with other identifiable disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and irritable

higher sensitivity to pain sensations than a healthy person. Simply touching the skin of someone with
fibromyalgia can cause great discomfort. The pathology seems to be low levels of norepinephrine and
serotonin which typically act in the body as messengers to the brain to prevent pain. Fibromyalgia
patients produce an abnormal amount of the stress hormone cortisol which adds to the pain felt. Sleep

The Day the Music Began
Legendary composer Leonard Bernstein once said, This will be our reply to violence: to make music
more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before (Leonard Bernstein Quotes). This
statement describes the exact response of musicians to the assassination of the young American
President, John F. Kennedy. Toward the end of his third year of presidency, Kennedy was shot and
killed in a parade in Dallas, Texas. Americans were shocked to have lost such a promising young
leader, and a somber silence swept across the nation as Americans lamented his death; this silence,
however, was broken by the melancholy music of mourning (Baldacci). The assassination of President
John F. Kennedy started a new movement of music that was inspired by the tragedy and differed in
structure from previous music.
November 22, 1963, the day President Kennedy was assassinated, is occasionally referred to as the
day the music stopped , but in reality the music had just begun (Baldacci). Approximately 2,500
people were attending a Boston Symphony Orchestra concert when they heard the news of their leader
s passing. After many gasps the audience stood in hushed reverence for their fallen president, and the
musicians began to perform a movement from Beethoven s 3rd Symphony: a funeral march (Inverne).
This moment is now one of the most famous events in the history of classical music; it is a moment
that launched a new era of music.
The tragedy of Kennedy s assassination inspired a

Power Of Familia
In this chapter, I will investigate the various meanings of familia. The theme of my chosen vocabulary
is the language of power and thus it is necessary to compare the power of the magistrate or state
official to that of parents in the home. The word derives from the noun famulus which means servant
or slave (LS 1879). I will be contrasting the use of familia with that of domus as aspects of words
connoting power. Saller (1999: p.84) states that familia was never used to mean father, mother, and
children as in today s term family as it referred, as we can see from its etymology, to the slave staff of
a house.

Being a king, he undoubtedly had many servants, serfs, and retainers and this is evidenced in the use
of the adverb undique to suggest that he was in possession of both many estates and a large number of

Orgetorix which compelled them to be gathered together. It must be noted that the word retainers can
also be interpreted as the king s court, his households and estates, and all his dependants. In this way,
familia is used to indicate the king s possessions and

Economics of Carbon Emissions and Climate Change
Economics of Carbon Emissions and Climate Change The economics of climate change is a very
controversial and disputed. To even discuss what should be done economists have to either state
whether or not global warming and climate change exist. According to the CATO article, Climate
Change vs. Climate Models (Michaels and Knappenberger, 2013), The models estimate of the increase
in temperature resulting from a doubling of carbon dioxide concentration may simply be too high. As
questioned in the article, is there such thing as climate change? Next, if climate change does exist, are
carbon emissions a relevant cause of such a phenomena? With all of these questions at hand, how do
we deal or cope with the current environmental state through economic means? Does climate change
exist? According to the U.S. Global Research Program (USGRP), climate change does exist. Not in
the sense of immediate and drastic changes in the climate, but a gradual fluctuation in temperatures
that have been gathered since the early 1900 s. The empirical data that has been gathered shows a
steady increase in the mean maximum temperature recorded in the Canadian Climate Change Model
which is the basis on the 2000 U.S. National Assessment of Climate Change. The original model
generated had a sine like pattern with a .342°C difference between the highest crest and lowest trough.
This was then proven an unworthy model when the actual empirical data was recorded with a .169°C
difference. There was

The Development Of Children s Education
5 7 years:
This age group of children will have to go through a transition from nursery to school; reception year,
(where practitioners still follow EYFS) and then children move on to key stage one, (where teachers
follow the National Curriculum Key Stage 1). Children s education is still based on play, however
now children have a lot more of adult led activities in which they learn to concentrate for longer
periods of time. The environment in schools that surrounds children is more complex because the
children get to learn more, therefore some displays might contain bigger amount of more complex
mathematical language than we can find in a nursery setting. As children go into key stage 1, it isn t
the only environmental look that changes, the equipment is also more complex and advanced because
it is aimed for children that are now at a higher stage of mathematical development. As I discussed
earlier Early Years Foundation Stage changes and becomes the National Curriculum Key Stage 1; the
system changes a little bit and instead of carpet time that children used to have in the nursery becomes
a lesson . Some children in reception might still work on their emergent mathematics. However, as
they move up to Key Stage 1, children begin to learn a lot more complex mathematics and it is not
longer emergent because they have passed this stage which should be fully achieved by now...
Children who did not go to the nursery might find it harder to learn in school and achieve their

Do Video Games Cause Violence And How Does Video Games...
Many people think video games can cause violence. Most of the people reading this would say yes,
that video games do cause violence because a lot of times you see video games connect with violence
on the news, but how often are video games the main reason that the act of violence someone caused
happened. But what is video game violence and how do these scientists classify it? Most importantly
how do you measure aggression? There have been 300 studies give or take between 2005 to 2013. That
s on average 37.5 studies per year over eight years. Yet none has yielded a good answer on if video
games cause violence or not. When it comes down to the risk factors of violence ¨no single risk factor
consistently leads a person to act out their aggression.¨(Tibi Puiu) Most of these studies were on a time
of two to three hours a day. Along with all of these studies there have been four meta analysis. Meta
analysis is a statistical analysis that combines groups of similar data usually to show the effect size.
With all of this data surely the world would get a good firm answer. Nope, the research has yet to
show a causal relationship. Among kids between the ages of 12 and 17 97% play some sort of game
with violence. (Susan Scuttl) Now violent games can be seen as violent by one person and nonviolent
by another. It s all on perspective People who want to blame video games for real life violence point to
a literary that a person would believe supplies evidence to the association. Counter claim can be
reading a sad book would lead a person to sad thoughts but people say that this doesn t cause

were randomized to play no video game, a non violent video game, a violent where they played the
good guy, and a violent video game where they played the bad guy . He found that those kids who had
history of playing violent video games had fewer hostile feeling during a frustration test. Dr.Ferguson
also said that most of the people that show any type of negative thoughts on modern media are much
much older. With that quote most of these so called experiments that show that there a definitive link

Near Field Communication Technology
In collaboration, Sony and NXP Semiconductors (formerly known as Philips) developed NFC
technology which is capable of sharing a variety of data types and as use as an access key to content
and services. The NFC technology was derived from the pre existing contactless communication
technology, Radio frequency Identification (RFID) technology. RFID was first patented during the
early 1970s, and is used as a one way communication system for which information is encoded within
a chip and can be read by an RFID reader (ACMA, 2013). Common uses of RFID at present include
(but are not limited to) building access control and inventory management. NFC operates similarly to
RFID but is low powered (so minimal battery power is required) and only functions within close
distances to transfer data securely from one NFC equipped device to another.
In contrast to the use and operation of Bluetooth, NFC does not require two devices to be paired prior
to the exchange of information. So, NFC enabled tags are used in conjunction with NFC equipped
devices. The tags are inexpensive and forward out encoded data wirelessly. After an NFC tag has been
encoded with the desired data or action, the tag is ready to be used. Users simply touch the back of
their NFC equipped device against the tag and the device will proceed to launch the specified action
(such as a URL, application, or service). NFC tags are usually found in the form of a sticker and
roughly the size of the average postage stamp. When

Spartacus and the Slave Wars Essay
According to Shaw in Spartacus and The Slave Wars , prisoners of war enslaved at the end of the
Second Punic War rebelled in 198 B.C. This slave uprising in central Italy is the first reliable report of
one, although it was surely not the first actual slave uprising. There were other slave uprisings in the
180s. These were small; however, there were 3 major slave revolts in Italy between 140 and 70 B.C.
These 3 uprisings are called the Servile Wars, since the Latin for slave is servus. However these 3
slave wars did not all end in victory. As a matter of fact, the 3 slave revolts failed, ending in murder of
the leaders. The reason why the slaves were defeated in the end was basically due to the fact that there
was no ultimate goal. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gender And The Media By Rosalind Gill
Book Review of Gender and the Media by Rosalind Gill
Gender and the Media by Rosalind Gill addresses gender stereotypes that are brought onto women and
men through the media resulting in objectification and subjectification. Gill discusses how the
representation of gender is altered as a result of the media in Western societies. Gender and the Media
is aimed to address the rapid transmission of media and how those changes affect the construction of
feminine and masculine gender roles in society. Gill uses her interest in the contradictions of gender
construction by society, to analyze gender and the media. Using feminism as a backbone for her
research, Gill and many commentators support the idea that feminist ideas are common and may even
affect the media. Gender and the Media addresses multiple forms of media: postfeminism in
advertising, gender in the news and journalism, and gender in magazines. Gild aims to address the
construction of gender representations, elements for gender analysis, and feminist culture with Gender
and the Media.
The first section of Gender and the Media addresses gender representations and the beginning of
feminism. During the late 60 s and early 70 s, women s rights movements were first introduced with
the challenge of the media, prompting them monitor the way the media portrayed women. This
portrayal starting in the late 1970 s has seen many transmissions since. Gil states: I use the term
feminism to signal a concern with enduring gender

Michael Pollan Omnivore Dilemma
Michael Pollan in 2006, published a work that has to some degree changed the way that people eat, or
at the very least attempted to change the way that we think about the food we eat. (Shea 54) Pollan
demonstrates through fundamentally modern rhetoric the relationship that people, and more
specifically American s have with food and how very distant we are from it. ( History, Old Favorites

even worse food born illnesses and scares are changing the way that food is understood with regard to

experience challenging the market to forage in the environment we live. The ethos of the work is
derived from the fact that Pollan is willing and able as an individual, on a very intimate level to trace
all these links to a formidable conclusion, as well as his own credential as a consumer and a food
writer. (Shea 54) He vividly describes his experiences and what he has learned, so the reader can

Oil underlines Pollan s story about agribusiness, but corn is its focus. American cattle fatten on corn.
Corn also feeds poultry, pigs and sheep, even farmed fish. But that s just the beginning. In addition to
dairy products from corn fed cows and eggs from corn fed chickens, corn starch, corn oil and corn
syrup make up key ingredients in prepared foods. High fructose corn syrup sweetens everything from
juice to toothpaste. Even the alcohol in beer is corn based. Corn is in everything from frozen yogurt to
ketchup, from mayonnaise and mustard to hot dogs and bologna, from salad dressings to vitamin pills.

The Dualists Essay
The infinite theoretical duel between the duality of our mind and body by philosophers has been one
that has been replete with a magnitude of different philosophical theories that try to posit our
existentiality. Consequently, these theorists try to find the answers to the causality of how the mind
and the brain truly interact: Are we our synapses, or are we something more than that? However, one
theory that has been of interest to many recent scientists and philosophers alike is one that has been
around since its conception by a famous mathematician and philosopher named Rene Descartes. This
theory is called substance dualism; and accordingly, this theory tries to solve the mystery of how these
two complex disparate entities can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, one theory that I find particularly helpful is one that is from the Cartesian dualistic
mentality; however, it branches of into its own direction and creates a plausible theory that I hope will
help open doors to many more answers to the mystery of our experiential existence. According to Dr.
Jeffrey M. Schwartz, Henry P. Stapp, and Mario Beauregard, who are researchers in the field of
neuroscience and quantum physics, the mind creates a causative effect through the brains neural
mechanism thus through material matter and this in turn creates an interaction. Consequently, these
interactions call it volition if you will affect the atoms, matter and molecules of our material existence.
Consequently, only through quantum physics can one know how these substances comingle with each
other to create a seamless interaction that can either have positive or negative consequences to our
existence. In philosophical terms, this theory also pertains to our experiential existence; thus, it has
implications for our day to day life (2). Classical physics mainly deals with formulas and sets of
equations that describe our world in macromolecular terms; however, quantum physics is concerned
with the more intimate aspects of casual

Jacey Observation
I recently had the opportunity to observe a 33 month old boy named Jacey in our church nursery. On
this particular Sunday we had several families unable to attend worship service due to a nasty virus
that has been going through our community, so Jacey was the only child in the nursery during my
observation. I quickly learned that this little guy is full of energy and excitement, and also a little bit of
attitude, with sticky fingers and rosy cheeks! It was clear to see that he is an adventure seeker as he
explored his surroundings with eyes that appeared to be thoughtful as his curious little mind absorbed
every single inflection of the words spoken by those who interacted with him and all of this is what I
observed within just the first five minutes of my time spent with Jacey. Over the course of the hour
there would be squeals of joy, rambunctious play, silly faces made, as well as times of crossed arms

Two Colors One Land
TWO COLORS ONE LAND American Dream is a taboo for many people from different nationalities

Half Dome Pros And Cons
There appears to be three different veiws on climbing to the top of the Half Dome. Half Domes is a
granite rock, 4,800 feet high and resembles a bowling ball cut into half. Half Domes is location in
Marposa Calit and until cables were installed in 1919 was considered inaccessible. Now novice
climbers can reach the top and are rewarded with aspiring views. The first view is by the park officals.
The main concern is hiker safety. The The park wants people to be able to desens the rock in 45
minutes. They post signs telling people if a storm is imminent, however people flout the warning signs
and continue to the top. In the past, up to 1,200 hikers a day climbed to the top and getting off the
mountain was slow and difficult. In 2011 the park

Examples Of Inhumanity In Huck Finn
The phrase (Man s inhumanity to man) is first documented in the Robert Burns poem called Man Was
Made to Mourn, Samuel Von Pufendorf also wrote in 1673, More inhumanity has been done by man
himself than any other of nature s causes.
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man%27s_inhumanity_to_man) Man s inhumanity towards man can be
caused by need of power, jealousy, and greed. Throughout history, the inhumane acts committed by
men towards each other have shaped society and defined periods of time. Man s inhumanity to man
has played a large role in the lives of billions of people who have inhabited the Earth over time.
Events such as, crucifixions, medieval torture sessions, gladiator fights, lynchings, genocides, wars,
and mass murders will never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slavery as one of the aspects of the theme of man s inhumanity to man, is debated in many works,
such as in Harriet Beecher Stowe s novel Uncle Tom s Cabin and the memoir of Solomon Northup,
Twelve Years a Slave. They spoke about the cruelties and the hardships of the Negro slaves in the
southern states. These books gained attention and eventually ignited the Civil War that paved the way
to the abolition of slavery and the freedom of the African American people. Martin Luther King Jr. s
famous speech, I Have a Dream contains the revolutionist s desire for a new America a country filled
with liberty, not only for the Whites but for the Blacks as well. With courageous effort and an
ambitious zeal, Martin Luther King Jr. wrote his speech and recited it in front of the masses during the
Civil Rights Era (1960 s). Another cultural revolution that happened in the late 1960 s made possible
the transition of conservativism to modernization in societal norms when the Hippie Movement was
practiced. John Lennon s song, Imagine, basically tells us about the philosophy of the hippie

Trauma And Its Effects On Dominant Or Recessive Genes
Though trauma may be hereditary, it should not be made an excuse of one s actions. I believe that it
only takes one to break the chain of abuse. However, with recent studies, it has come to light that
traumatic events can alter a person s DNA allowing the effects of trauma to be carried throughout
generations. As a result, this could make the breaking the chain incredibly more difficult in that the
future generation is affected by the same trauma. Trauma is passed down through genetic markers that
in the form of tags that form to biologically prepare offspring for an environment similar to that of the
parent. (Yehuda). These tags that can the opposite effect on dominant or recessive genes. For example,
if the gene is dominant, it may become recessive. As a result, the gene s functionality has been altered
thus causing a permanent change in the descendant s DNA. According to Moshe Szyf, a researcher at
McGill University, the genes were switched off in response to a series of events, such as abuse during
childhood . For example, if even one person is traumatized by experiences, the generations after can
acquire the same epigenetic modifications on their DNA. But this does not mean that only the
ancestors trauma can affect the descendants, new trauma can also occur at any time in the line and not
just a reaction to the original trauma. Therefore, the new markers that form would be passed down as
well. So instead of just one person affected, many are because if the original

The Problem Of An Internal Malfunction Within A Computer
Abstract
Overheating is a symptom of an internal malfunction within a computer. Although, computer
manufacturer s created the computer as new working condition, they still fall short. God also created
mankind in a good order, however, they too fell short. Computer overheating symptoms may include
the actual power supply, computer overloading, fan failure, inadequate ventilation outside or around
the computer system, inadequate ventilation inside the computer system, and even dirt and dust. By
diagnosing the cause of overheating you can correct the problem and get your computer back up to a
normal operational use. In the same way, sin comes in many forms and the correct solution to the
problem of mankind is the Gospel of Christ.

Essay On German And Irish Immigration
In the early 1800s the German and Irish were suffering from unemployment, famine, civil unrest and
many other hardships. Through these hardships, not having food or jobs they decided to congregate in
an area that could provide this for them. From 1820 to 1870 hundreds of thousands of German and
Irish immigrants ended up emigrating to the United States in search of jobs and opportunities.
Burgeoning companies took in anyone that was looking for a job, the immigrants would end up taking
almost every labor enduring job in the country. The immigration of the German and Irish immigrants
would end up affecting and changing many American lives. In Ireland about a half of the population
were living on farms and since they were poor most of them were dependent on potatoes for food.
When the crop soon failed after three years of success and it led to a massive famine throughout their
nation, killing thousands of people. The Irish had to get out of their poor and suffering country and
decided to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A big part of this opposition was from jobs, when it came to the American people and the new
immigrants. Most of the time the American workers would be replaced or threatened in their position
of work and if they were replaced, they were replaced with immigrants because the immigrants were
willing to work for next to nothing in order to survive. Another big part of opposition against the
immigrants was through the immigrant s religious beliefs. Many of the Irish and German immigrants
were Roman Catholic. This caused anti catholic rioting throughout most of the Northern cities and the
largest anti catholic riot occurred in Philadelphia in 1844 during a period of economic depression.
These riots resulted in dozens of people being injured, 16 people killed and over 40 buildings were

The Keirsey Temperament Sorter
Every person has a personality that is so complex that it cannot be described completely and
accurately just through personality tests. My personality may seem a bit spontaneous at times, but it is
usually stable. I see myself as an angry person who just wants things to work out in the end. I was
characterized as a Guardian by the Keirsey Temperament Sorter, and I agree with this result. Although
it may seem as if I am detached or uninterested, in the end I always want to make sure everyone is
happy. A lot of my friends and some of my siblings have told me that I act to much like their mom,
since I tend to get over protective of those around me. But in order to appear cool and unaffected, I
tend to pretend that I do not care for others. It

American Influences on Syria
Syria s Government Syria and America both have very similar governments. There are only a few
assets which makes syrian government Republic and us a Federal Republic. Syria s government has
three branches: legislative, executive and judicial ( Just like America!). The executive branch is made
up of a president, two vice presidents, a prime minister and a cabinet. The president term last for only
7 years, and the president must be a muslim. The president has the right to name ministers within the
government and declare states of emergency or war. The vice president s job is to take place of the
president if something ever happens. The prime minister is the head of the government of the Syrian
Arab Republic. There are no constitutional limits on a Prime Minister s term. The cabinet advises the
president. Next is the legislative branch. This branch is governed by the People s Council. This
council has 250 members elected for a four year term. The function of the People s Council include
voting for a president, passing laws , discussing government policy, ratification of treaties, and
approving budget and development of plans. Lastly, the Judicial branch. The judiciary, including the
powers to appoint, promote, and transfer judges, is assigned in the Supreme Judicial Council. Islamic

  • 2. The Reality Of Bertrandes Innocence Essay It seems as though in today s society, suspicion lies in every corner. No one trusts anyone anymore, everyone lies, everyone steals, everyone pretends to be someone they are not. However true or false these statements might be, there is a need in today s society to be able to explain everything, coming up with every possible lie or predicament within every story. Natalie Davis is from today s society, and once again, she has found the need to investigate Bertrande Guerre s role within The Return of Martin Guerre. The only pieces of evidence that are reliable come from Jean de Coras, the main judge in the trial. However, Davis seems to have ignored his findings, and founded her own. For most of her points, there is no written evidence to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even according to Natalie Davis, Bertrande was in ...a marriage in which her husband understood her little, may have feared her, and surely abandoned her...(34) . Arnaud, on the other hand, showed great interest in his new family. He showed Bertrande affection and companionship (Davis, 44). He was successful while farming (Davis, 51), and even became a merchant by selling grains, wine and wool (Davis, 52). All of the differences between the men were Natalie Davis main arguments as to why Bertrande should have noticed the varying personalities between the two men. What she neglects to remind the reader is that there had been eight years from the time Bertrande had last seen the real Martin Guerre and the time she saw Arnaud. Not only could she have forgotten her husband s habits, but she could have assumed that he had changed after so many new experiences and his years in the army. The relationship was described as strained from the very beginning. In fact, Bertrande was described as going out and playing with Martin s sisters instead of spending time with her husband. She may not have really gotten to know the real Martin s personality at all. While the physical features of the two men were very similar, there were certain features that were different. • 3. The Narrative Of Falling Oil Prices The narrative of falling oil prices has been played out in financial news as a blessing for consumers and a bane on the energy sector, namely on oil companies and oil exporting countries. However, a crucial piece of the narrative has been largely forgotten, and that s the shock that such oil prices have had on private equity investors in the energy markets for the past year. What was once a lucrative and seemingly obvious investment into the oil boom of the post recession has, for the last year, turned into an energy fund disaster for many PE firms. Yet despite the record breaking losses that these funds have incurred, private equity firms have recently been doubling down in the market, increasing energy investment to previously unseen levels. Such actions beg the questions: why are PE firms so confident in the energy sector, and should they be? As the narrative commonly begins, oil prices are way down. Way way down. In fact, since June 2014, the price of a barrel of oil has been cut in half reaching levels last seen during the bottom of the 2009 recession. The causes of such rapid declines are best attributed to a simple supply and demand model. On the supply side, domestic oil production has doubled in the last six years. As the world s largest crude oil consumer in the world, the US was once a large and reliable buyer of foreign oil. But with domestic demand for foreign oil waning, exporting countries such as Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, and Algeria have had to find new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Mr. Sam Walton s Success Mr. Sam Walton was born in Kingfisher, Oklahoma in 1918. Walton went to the military in 1942 at the age of 24 and he ended is service in the military in 1945. At this time Walton moved to Newport, Arkansas. In 1950, the Walton s moved to Bentonville, Arkansas which is where Walton opened his first retail store Walton s 5 10 (Our History, 2015). The dime store made Walton some money and he wanted to bring better opportunity and value to his customers so he opened Walmart in 1962 in Rogers, Arkansas. Walton s competitors thought he was crazy for trying to build a business that would give customers lower prices and offer great service. They thought his idea would never work (Our History, 2015). In 1969 with 24 stores booming and over $12.7 million in sales, the company incorporated as Walmart Stores, Inc. Two critical vulnerabilities of US forces were the insufficient protection platforms for transportation and limited road network available to move troops rapidly. The insurgent s ability in 2006 to attack US ground forces with IEDs was a critical capability which compromised US forces combat mobility and effectiveness. In June 2006, IED incidents reached more than 2,000 per month. At one point in 2006, coalition forces in Iraq were experiencing almost 100 IEDs per day . The DoD acquisition strategy supporting the MRAP rapid fielding initiative is nested within the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System or JCIDS. Although it was an improvement over the previous process known as the requirements generation system or RGS, it proved too glacial in movement due to legislative restrictions and a risk aversion environment within the Pentagon. The JCIDS was geared along strict cumbersome processes and focused almost exclusively on the procurement of future based weapons systems. Teaching especially when having a class full of children is the ultimate challenge, because they are new for what they are dealing with, but it can be also a source of fun to deal with these pure natured souls. The environment in schools that surrounds children is more complex because the children get to learn more, therefore some displays might contain bigger amount of more complex mathematical language than we can find in a nursery setting. As children go into key stage 1, it isn t the only environmental look that changes, the equipment is also more complex and advanced because it is aimed for children that are now at a higher stage of mathematical development. As I discussed earlier Early Years Foundation Stage changes and becomes the National Curriculum Key Stage 1; the system changes a little bit and instead of carpet time that children used to have in the nursery becomes a lesson . Some children in reception might still work on their emergent mathematics. However, as they move up to Key Stage 1, children begin to learn a lot more complex mathematics and it is not longer emergent because they have passed this stage which should be fully achieved by now... Children who did not go to the nursery might find it harder to learn in school and achieve their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Do Video Games Cause Violence And How Does Video Games... Many people think video games can cause violence. Most of the people reading this would say yes, that video games do cause violence because a lot of times you see video games connect with violence on the news, but how often are video games the main reason that the act of violence someone caused happened. But what is video game violence and how do these scientists classify it? Most importantly how do you measure aggression? There have been 300 studies give or take between 2005 to 2013. That s on average 37.5 studies per year over eight years. Yet none has yielded a good answer on if video games cause violence or not. When it comes down to the risk factors of violence ¨no single risk factor consistently leads a person to act out their aggression.¨(Tibi Puiu) Most of these studies were on a time of two to three hours a day. Along with all of these studies there have been four meta analysis. Meta analysis is a statistical analysis that combines groups of similar data usually to show the effect size. With all of this data surely the world would get a good firm answer. Nope, the research has yet to show a causal relationship. Among kids between the ages of 12 and 17 97% play some sort of game with violence. (Susan Scuttl) Now violent games can be seen as violent by one person and nonviolent by another. It s all on perspective People who want to blame video games for real life violence point to a literary that a person would believe supplies evidence to the association. Counter claim can be reading a sad book would lead a person to sad thoughts but people say that this doesn t cause depression. Dr. Christopher Ferguson a professor at Stetson University studies 103 young adults who were randomized to play no video game, a non violent video game, a violent where they played the good guy, and a violent video game where they played the bad guy . He found that those kids who had history of playing violent video games had fewer hostile feeling during a frustration test. • 28. Near Field Communication Technology In collaboration, Sony and NXP Semiconductors (formerly known as Philips) developed NFC technology which is capable of sharing a variety of data types and as use as an access key to content and services. The NFC technology was derived from the pre existing contactless communication technology, Radio frequency Identification (RFID) technology. RFID was first patented during the early 1970s, and is used as a one way communication system for which information is encoded within a chip and can be read by an RFID reader (ACMA, 2013). Common uses of RFID at present include (but are not limited to) building access control and inventory management. NFC operates similarly to RFID but is low powered (so minimal battery power is required) and only functions within close distances to transfer data securely from one NFC equipped device to another. In contrast to the use and operation of Bluetooth, NFC does not require two devices to be paired prior to the exchange of information. So, NFC enabled tags are used in conjunction with NFC equipped devices. The tags are inexpensive and forward out encoded data wirelessly. After an NFC tag has been encoded with the desired data or action, the tag is ready to be used. Users simply touch the back of their NFC equipped device against the tag and the device will proceed to launch the specified action (such as a URL, application, or service). NFC tags are usually found in the form of a sticker and roughly the size of the average postage stamp. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This slave uprising in central Italy is the first reliable report of one, although it was surely not the first actual slave uprising. There were other slave uprisings in the 180s. These were small; however, there were 3 major slave revolts in Italy between 140 and 70 B.C. These 3 uprisings are called the Servile Wars, since the Latin for slave is servus. However these 3 slave wars did not all end in victory. As a matter of fact, the 3 slave revolts failed, ending in murder of the leaders. The reason why the slaves were defeated in the end was basically due to the fact that there was no ultimate goal. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 30. Gender And The Media By Rosalind Gill Book Review of Gender and the Media by Rosalind Gill Gender and the Media by Rosalind Gill addresses gender stereotypes that are brought onto women and men through the media resulting in objectification and subjectification. Gill discusses how the representation of gender is altered as a result of the media in Western societies. Gender and the Media is aimed to address the rapid transmission of media and how those changes affect the construction of feminine and masculine gender roles in society. Gill uses her interest in the contradictions of gender construction by society, to analyze gender and the media. Using feminism as a backbone for her research, Gill and many commentators support the idea that feminist ideas are common and may even affect the media. Gender and the Media addresses multiple forms of media: postfeminism in advertising, gender in the news and journalism, and gender in magazines. Gild aims to address the construction of gender representations, elements for gender analysis, and feminist culture with Gender and the Media. The first section of Gender and the Media addresses gender representations and the beginning of feminism. During the late 60 s and early 70 s, women s rights movements were first introduced with the challenge of the media, prompting them monitor the way the media portrayed women. The ethos of the work is derived from the fact that Pollan is willing and able as an individual, on a very intimate level to trace all these links to a formidable conclusion, as well as his own credential as a consumer and a food writer. The Dualists Essay The infinite theoretical duel between the duality of our mind and body by philosophers has been one that has been replete with a magnitude of different philosophical theories that try to posit our existentiality. Consequently, these theorists try to find the answers to the causality of how the mind and the brain truly interact: Are we our synapses, or are we something more than that? However, one theory that has been of interest to many recent scientists and philosophers alike is one that has been around since its conception by a famous mathematician and philosopher named Rene Descartes. Stapp, and Mario Beauregard, who are researchers in the field of neuroscience and quantum physics, the mind creates a causative effect through the brains neural mechanism thus through material matter and this in turn creates an interaction. Consequently, these interactions call it volition if you will affect the atoms, matter and molecules of our material existence. Consequently, only through quantum physics can one know how these substances comingle with each other to create a seamless interaction that can either have positive or negative consequences to our existence. I believe that it only takes one to break the chain of abuse. However, with recent studies, it has come to light that traumatic events can alter a person s DNA allowing the effects of trauma to be carried throughout generations. As a result, this could make the breaking the chain incredibly more difficult in that the future generation is affected by the same trauma. Trauma is passed down through genetic markers that in the form of tags that form to biologically prepare offspring for an environment similar to that of the parent. (Yehuda). As a result, the gene s functionality has been altered thus causing a permanent change in the descendant s DNA. For example, if even one person is traumatized by experiences, the generations after can acquire the same epigenetic modifications on their DNA. But this does not mean that only the ancestors trauma can affect the descendants, new trauma can also occur at any time in the line and not just a reaction to the original trauma. Therefore, the new markers that form would be passed down as well. So instead of just one person affected, many are because if the original ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
