The Influence Of The Hippie Subculture
A new Identity for American Youth An essay on how the teenage ideology was influenced by the
Hippie subculture
Born from the social turmoil, and the differing opinions of people during the Vietnam War. The
Hippie movement first gained traction in American Colleges and Universities. These young adults
during the 1950s, are considered to be the very first pioneers of the hippie subculture. Through the
youths rebellious nature against the main ideals of society, and the growing popularity of the hippie
subculture, hippies, through the 50s up until the 80s, have managed to cultivate and solidify a new
concept of social behavior in young adults: The teenager. This essay will show us how the hippie
subculture managed to change the old ideals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No doubt, John Lennon wrote this song under the influence of the hippie subculture. This song
helped bring awareness to the public and teenagers alike, about the values of the Hippies.
Another influential song of the Hippie era is Fortunate Son by the group Creedence Clearwater
Revival. This song is a protest against the United States involvement in the Vietnam war, as the
Hippies saw that the US Army s involvement in the war as a mistake. Fortunate Son addresses the
issue of the discriminating way the government used forced conscription to recruit new soldiers as
they forced the poor population to fight much more often than people who held more political
power. As much as fifty five percent of the fighting force belonged in the working class. The
message this song sends, closely associates with the Hippie subculture view of the vietnam war.
This song, also being very popular to the teenage population, inspired teenagers to rebel against the
government and societal norm, causing teenagers to become more aware of the Hippie subculture
(since rebelling against societal norms was one of their underlying ethics.) One more artist who
contributed to the change of impression in teenagers is Buffalo Springfield. For what it s worth is
another protest song written in 1966. Although the literal meaning of the song is about hippies
protesting a curfew at their favorite

Characteristics Of Shakespearean Tragedy
2. SHAKESPEAREAN TRAGEDY
Shakespearean tragedy is the title given to most tragedies written by the playwright William
Shakespeare. Shakespearean tragedy began, roughly speaking, with marked indebtedness to the
tragic writing of Marlowe and Kyd: poetry, character, and style from Marlowe; motive, plot, and
tragic intensity from Kyd. No evidence suggests Shakespeare was ever particularly aware of or
influenced by, Aristotelian theories of tragedy . (Bevington, 1980) The plays we usually have in
mind when we think about Shakespearean tragedy are the classics like Titus Andronicus (written
between 1590 94), Romeo and Juliet (1594 96), Julius Caesar (1599), Hamlet (1599 1601), Othello
(1603 04), King Lear (1605), Macbeth (1606 07), Antony and Cleopatra (1606 07), and Coriolanus
(1608) derived from Plutarch. Troilus and Cressida, Timon of Athens, and Cymbeline were listed
as tragedies in the First Folio. Characteristics of a Shakespearean tragedy are found in many of his
histories, but since they are from real figures throughout England s history, they were classified as
histories in the First Folio. Exceptions from this are the Roman histories, also from historical
figures: Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, and Coriolanus.... Show more content on

(Gredina, forthcoming) I am most interested in the human nature of the characters and I chose these
three tragedies because their protagonists attracted my attention the most. Is Macbeth tempted to
sin by the weird sisters and his wife, or is the choice to murder Duncan ultimately his? To what
extent is man responsible for his tragic fate? (Bevington, 1980) The psychological aspect in his
tragedies is impressive. I think the most impressive thing is that even after more than 400 years we
can still study his characters and their decisions from different

When product prices are stout, investors, governments and other stakeholders comprehend the
description and presume that manufacturing companies are harvesting the gains. Actually, high
product prices encourage more deed, and that boost demand and costs for labor and supplies.
Governments around the globe are facing tough challenges as a result of the present economic
environment. Inflatable deficits generate strong incentive for governments to raise tax revenues by
increasing or introducing new percentage and income taxes. With the current high prices of cedar

What form of business organization (textbook, pp. 8 9) would you suggest each of the three
friends should use, and why? (12 marks) A corporation business form is suitable for the friend
who wants to start a restaurant. There are some advantages for corporation: first, a corporation
is distinct from its owners. The corporation can own property, borrow, and enter into contracts.
Second, the shareholders have limited liabilities, unlike other business form, they are just liable
for the amount they invested. Third, it s easier to loan money for a corporation than other
business form. A sole proprietorship business form is good for the friend who wants to be a
subcontract in a building trade. Subcontractor means a person or a business which has a contact
with a contractor to provide some portion of the work or services on a project which the contract
has agreed to. In the subcontractor friend case, the friend can set his business as a sole
proprietorship which is a firm owned by an individual or a family. All of the business s assets and

Definition Of Homeless Youth
There are more than 1.6 million adolescents experiencing homelessness annually in the U.S.
(Casetellanos, 2016; Rosario, et al., 2012; Schmitz Tyler, 2014). Based on national estimates, this is
roughly 5% of the population (Rosario et al., 2012). The definition of homelessness is rather
ambiguous which contributes to such discretion when working with the homeless population.
Often, the terms homeless and runaway are used interchangeably in research studies on homeless
youth. However, running away is considered episodic whereas homelessnessis a longterm
circumstance (Schmitz Tyler, 2014). For the purpose of this study, homelessness is defined in it
s broadest terms: individuals who are experiencing residential instability or vulnerability;
individuals who are doubled up with friends, family, or sexual partners; individuals living in a
place not meant for human habitation; and individuals living in emergency shelter or transitional
housing (Castellanos, 2016; HUD Definition of Homeless , 2012; Rosario, et al., 2012). Lesbian,
gay, and bi sexual youth compose 15 36% of homeless youth despite composing only 1.3 3.8% of
the general youth population (Rosario et al., 2012). This wide margin of error is typical amongst
stigmatized groups such as the LGBTQ population because there is still a legitimized fear of
disclosing one s genderidentity or sexual orientation(Ream Forge, 2014). LGBT youth face higher
risk of mental health problems, substance use, and sexual risk

The word rhetoric has various meanings. Rhetoric can be easily explained as the ways in which
signs influence people. As history goes on we see the rhetoric changes over time. Rhetoric has
been studied for a countless number of years. The beginnings of rhetoric starts off in the roots of
the Western World with the Greeks. Political rhetoric can date back to the days of the Greeks
and the Romans. The Roman Republic relief on writing and letters to produce legislation for it s
citizens. The printing press aloud for mass production of political news. The radio made
political stories more intimate especially for the listeners at home. Television gave viewers an
image of politics in action. Finally the internet brought the world together and made more aware
of international news. Rhetoric has always been an essential to political communication for
hundreds of years. Movies are not just clips that move and tell a story but, they are also clips
that can move an audience. We need movies to open are eyes to the implication our our realities
(Brummett, 6). Now we we focus on rhetoric and pop culture. We unknowingly witness rhetoric in
everyday life. To first understand how rhetoric influences Lincoln films we must begin looking at
one of the building blocks. Everything is a s sign in rhetoric. In the rhetorical world a sign is
something that has meaning and can allow us to be remind of something else. Signs will be a crucial

Consider how culture is likely to impact on: effects management styles? Business customs within a
country are an extension of the country s culture. There are many similarities in how business is
conducted from country to country but the differences, if not properly adjusted for, often cause
enormous problems.
It is not necessary for a business person to forsake their ways and to change to conform to local
customs but, rather, to be aware of differences and willing to accommodate those differences that
can cause misunderstandings. Just as is the case with all cultural differences, a person s SRC can

Essay on London 1908
London 1908 The Court of Honor
By day it is a vision of dazzling whiteness, with its tiled court and plashing cool waters, its pointed
arcades and lattice windows. At night it is equally effective with its thousands of lights and the
rainbow colours of the cascade. ~Robert W. Carden, Architectural Review July, 1908
Despite varied opinions about the 1908 Franco British Exhibition, an event designed to confirm the
friendly relations between France and Britain as described in the Entente Cordiale, there was
collective praise for the Court of Honor. The full grandeur of the Court can hardly be felt by an
image. As visitors entered from the main gates of Wood Lane, the Court of Honor was their first

Already impressive during the day, the view was brilliant at night: a cascade of water flowed over
a framework of semi opaque glass with colored lights beneath, producing a brilliant rainbow of light
(Carden). Surrounding structures were illuminated by lanterns and other electrical lighting.
Imre Kiralfy, its coordinator, was the driving force behind the fair. He had found previous fame in
running extravagant exhibitions, and lived up to expectations by planning the Franco British
Exhibition concurrently with that year s Olympiad, held in a stadium nearby. Kiralfy saw the fair
as an opportunity to gain cultural respectability; however, since he was not a trained architect, he
received much criticism on his designs. He designed the Court of Honor as well as the steel frames
for all of the major buildings, then consulted the architects who devised the plaster facades to create
the White City. Many critics felt that he limited the creativity of the architects by giving them pre
planned structures for their buildings. Placing blame on Kiralfy, they denounced the cosmetic role
leading architects were asked to fulfill, pointing out the vulgar error of putting the wrong end of the
stick before the horse. (Greenhalgh). There were also complaints that the buildings did not fit
together, despite the overall whiteness of the fair. This was mainly the result of two very different

Given To Fly Eddie Vedder Meaning
In 1991 when Eddie Vedder wrote and performed his album Ten, he knew he was competing with
the big time grunge band; Nirvana. Once it hit the stage it was clear there was no competition.
Eddie s deep, emotional messages throughout this album, his shaky, raspy voice that transfers from
screaming lyrics to soft, poetic like speaking. All tied together with his hard to hate persona that
can be heard throughout this album and every album made by Eddie Vedder.
In the song Given To Fly Eddie says He got up out of there, ran for hundreds of miles / He made
it to the ocean, had a smoke in a tree / The wind rose up, set him down on his knee. In this verse
Eddie is describing his life and how he needs to get away from it all and just have a peaceful
break, alone. Vedder likes to use his life in third person in most of his songs to make his message
more distant, and almost more easily relatable. The song Given To Fly is actually a second or a
reference to the song Going to California By Led Zeppelin and how just leaving might help out
more than anything. Throughout the album there are several different songs with an abundance
of different meanings. The song, Alive, has one of the deepest messages that is tied to his life
personally. The song is about a boy that finds out that who he thought was his father, is actually
his stepfather and his real father is dead. Eddie said the song is a work of fiction based on reality
(SK) . When Vedder was born his mom had left his father and

Housing For Veterans Essay
A Veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check payable to the United
States of America for an amount up to, and including, their life. Regardless of personal political
views, that is an honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer remember
that fact.
Data indicates that it takes years for the trauma associated with military combat to appear, hence the
name post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). After the Vietnam War it took nine to twelve years
before veterans began showing up at homeless shelters in large numbers. It s unfortunate that ANY
veteran who we reposed special trust and confidence in would someday find themselves living on
the street at ANY point in their life.

Tackling a project of this magnitude will require several phases of execution. The phases are as
follows: Non for profit (NFP) entity start up, Financing, Acquisition, Renovation, and Management.
PHASE ONE: NFP START UP
The first step we need to take is to establish a NFP entity with the primary mission of providing
stable housing for up to 24 months to military veterans. The ability to provide this type of housing
for veterans via a NFP entity will enable the organization to be eligible for a number of government
funded grants such as the Veteran Administration s Homeless Providers Grant and Per Diem
Program and the Illinois Energy Grant. (2)
The estimated cost to establish a NFP is $3,300. This price includes but is not limited to assistance
with the development of mission statement, narrative of core programs and services, a three year
operational budget with financials, formation of NFP bylaws, articles of incorporation filing, the
preparation and submission of the 501(c) 3 application and various identification codes. (Note: Start
up figures from the website http://taylormadeindustries.com).
PHASE TWO: FINANCING This project will require a large amount of money for both capital
and operations. From a capital standpoint our end state is to build a facility that provides: 1)
supportive housing for up to 10 homeless Veterans in need of immediate and intensive services; and
2) affordable housing for up

Introduction Of Antiviral Drugs
Antiviral Drugs
пѓ Introduction: These are the agents which are used in the treatment and prevention of an
infectious disease caused by certain viruses. They are antimicrobial compounds like antibiotics,
antifungal, ant parasitic, etc., but they have their own different mode of action because viruses
differ from bacteria and other organisms in a way that they lack cell wall and cell membrane. They
contain a core of nucleic acid that may be DNA or RNA, surrounded by the protein coat.
Viruses are obligate intracellular parasites, which means that they cannot grow outside the host cell,

It prevents the entry of the virus by binding to the CCR5 coreceptors, these coreceptors work

2.Integrase Inhibitor for HIV:
Mechanism of Action: The integrase inhibitors are also called Integrase Strand Transfer Inhibitors
(INSTIs). It inhibits the incorporation of viral DNA into the host DNA.
An enzyme called integrase help in the insertion of viral DNA into the host DNA by making a cut
in the host DNA at some points and then inserting the viral DNA into it. This enzyme has active
sites through which it makes a cut in host DNA. The inhibition process occurs when INSTIs attach
to the active sites of the enzyme, preventing the enzyme from making a cut in host DNA, therefore,
inhibiting insertion.
Dolutegravir and Raltegravir: It is an Integrase Inhibitor that works by binding to the active sites
of the enzyme and displaces one end of the DNA strand, making it impossible for the viral DNA to
be integrated into the host DNA.
Antimicrobial Spectrum: These drugs are effective against a wide range of wild type and drug
resistance HIV, including the strains that use CCR5 or CXCR4 coreceptors for entry into the host

Analysis Of The Film Figural
Figural Portray: American Art in Nineteen Centaury
The artwork is an aesthetic autonomous expression by someone on something. This means that
artwork always has a life of its own that is very separate and different from other affairs of human
beings. The artist making the art will always define the purposes and the functions of his/her arts.
Sometimes it may be the public or the market of the arts that will define the functions of the arts.
Expression by artists through artwork has always expressed, reflected, and influenced the
cultures, places, and time from which the art itself always evolves. The art can also be used for
social and media criticism and that means it helps in objecting to reality. Some people also use
artwork as a tool for knowledge creation and research. It has also got some very important social
benefits like bringing happiness to different people.
The two arts work displayed at Los Angeles County Museum of Art have been selected to
demonstrate how figures of human beings are portrayed through artwork. Both artworks are

Man is God s best creation. His intelligence and thirst for knowledge has led him to explore even

desire for adventure. This is also one of the greatest achievements of man. Space contains the
whole universe including all the planets, the sun, the moon and the stars. The limit where the
earth s atmosphere ends is called outer space. Yuri Gagarin of Russia in 1961, became the first
man to go into space. He circled the earth in 108 minutes and returned safely. Later, in 1963,
Valentina Tereshkova became the first women to go into space. She stayed in orbit for 5 days and

Argumentative Essay On The Raisin In The Sun
During the 1920s, a mass movement in the African American culture occurred. It took place in
Harlem, New York, in which there was a culture, social, and artistic outburst. This was the
movement called the Harlem Renaissance. During this movement, many African American artists
rose up. This included Langston Hughes, a poet, and Lorraine Hansberry, a writer. When
Hansberry moved to Harlem, she became very good friends with Langston Hughes. In 1951,
when Langston Hughes published his Dream Deferred poem, Hansberry was inspired by it and
wrote a play based on it called Raisin in the Sun. In her play, Raisin in the Sun, Hansberry uses
Mama, Ruth, and Walter to show the negative consequences that occur when you put off tour

children are her life and all her dreams are motivated by them. Mama s dream was to buy a two

The Effects Of Cognitive Ability On Social Media Use
The recruitment of participants shall come from the University aged population, 18 26. This aged
will be chosen because they are living in an environment with a prevalence of technological
apparatuses, and they are more likely to be engaged in the pursuit of further education at a post
secondary institution. In light of this, we will seek to gain a representative sample of this
population. With this is mind, we will seek to gain participants through traditional and contemporary

Turning now to social media, social media shall be operationalized as a user oriented platform,
for the purpose of this experiment we will be going to focus on the aforementioned popular social
media platforms, but including time spent on social media outside of this domain. Suffice it to say,
that if it looks like social media, it probably is.
Finally, social media use will be determined by the random assignment of the participants to one
of the three conditions. In order to provide accurate conditions, participants shall fist complete a
questionnaire pertaining to their social media use, from this data we will take the average and
make our manipulations from it. For example, if it is found that the average time spent on social
media is two hours, we will have a low social media condition of one hour or less, and a high
social media condition of three hours or more, the intent is to ensure our manipulations are realistic
and large enough to determine if there is an effect. This questionnaire will be tested before the
commencement of the study to ensure it has reliable test retest reliability. Besides this,

How Does Wuthering Heights Change Throughout The Novel
In many books, the settings and characters often relate to each other. Wuthering Heights by Emily
BronteМ€ exemplifies this concept perfectly in the way the houses compare to the main characters.
Wuthering Heights is the story of love and revenge between its characters. In BronteМ€ s
Wuthering Heights, settings are reflected in the temperaments of these main characters: Heathcliff,
Edgar Linton, and Catherine Earnshaw.
First, in the novel Wuthering Heights, the character Heathcliff reflects the house Wuthering
Heights. The first way Heathcliff s attributes mirror the features of Wuthering Heights is Heathcliff
s incessant aggressive, bad mood. Wuthering Heights, when seen in the novel, always seems to be
having turbulent weather. Heathcliff s aggression directly compares to the aggression of the
weather there. The second way Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights relate is their resemblance of
physical traits. Heathcliff over time does not age very well. Similarly, the house is not kept up, is
always a mess throughout the book, and is described as rustic looking by Nelly, The apartment and
furniture would have been nothing extraordinary as belonging to a homely, northern farmer with a
stubborn countenance (BronteМ€ 3). The third way that Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights are
alike is their low level in society, so to speak. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about Snapple Case Study
Snapple Case Study
Despite the fact that many small startup premium fruit drink companies stayed small or even
disappeared during the period from 1972 to 1993, Snapple was able to flourish. A large part of
Snapple avoiding the fate of these other companies can be attributed to how successful it was in
utilizing the four Ps of marketing, especially product and promotion.
Of the four Ps, the marketing mix typically starts with the product, which is one area where Snapple
separated itself from competitors. The product not only entails the physical unit but also, among
other factors, its package, warranty, after sale service, brand name, company image, and value.

Snapple also sponsored the radio programs of two highly outspoken men, Howard Stern and Rush
Limbaugh, who promoted Snapple s various products on air.
Finally, price is what a buyer must give up in order to obtain a product. It is often the most
flexible of the four Ps. Although not explicitly stated in the case study, I know from further
research that Snapple isn t significantly cheaper or more expensive than substitute products. The
average sixteen ounce bottle of Snapple is $1.50, which is comparable to what one would pay for
an Arizona iced tea or a bottle of Coca Cola. A significant advantage was not gained in this area.
In order for Mike Weinstein to regain the level of success that Snapple once enjoyed, he needs to
make a serious effort to return Snapple to its roots. First and foremost he needs to reestablish the
public relations and advertising strategies the company once used. Weinstein should reach out to
Howard Stern, Rush Limbaugh, and Wendy Kaufman to again promote Snapple s products. He
needs to communicate to them how instrumental they would be in returning Snapple to its former
status among fruit drink companies. If he can t get these individuals on board, then Weinstein needs
to find suitable replacements that have similar personalities to the aforementioned spokespersons.
In addition, because today s society is so reliant on technology, he should advertise Snapple
products through various social media.

Essay on Deforestation in India
Forest loss is directly associated with human population growth. In 1921 human population was
25. 13 crores and forests cover was 104.05 million hectares. By 1989, forests cover reduced to
64.01 m ha, while human population in 1991 reached to 84.39 crores.
Deforestation is due to diversion of forest land to agricultural land, river valley projects, roads,
industiy and urbanization, transmission lines and activities like shifting cultivation, fuelwood and
timber collection overgrazing fires and acid rains (vide Rana, 2006).

Most scientists agree that planet s temperature has risen 0.5 degree Celsius since 1900 and will
continue to increase at an increasing rate. As a result, the world is getting warmer. The year 1990
was the hottest year in the last century.
Together with 1991, the years of 1983, 1987, 1988 and 1989 have been measured to be the
warmest six years in the last hundred years. The year 1991 was the second warmest year of the
past century. The consequences of the rise in temperature is being felt all over the globe the
findings of scientific research done in this field reveal that the temperature of the earth is likely to
rise from 1.4В°C to 5.8В°C within a period of 100 years.
Unfortunately, the imbalance which we have created between our life and earth is already showing
the signs disasters in the form of flood, cyclones, landslides, tsunami, drought, etc. If the imbalance
continues to rise, one day this will pose a question mark on the existence of this planet. Carbon
dioxide (C02) which is an important constituent of environment is causing a warming effect on the
earth s surface.
It increases the evaporation of water into the atmosphere. Since water vapour itself is a
greenhouse gas, this causes still more warming. The warming causes more water vapour to be
evaporated. The C02 level is expected to rise in future due to ongoing burning of fossil fuels and
landuse change. The rate of rise will depend largely on uncertain economic,

Dorothy Day Research Paper
Courage is a cardinal virtue every human being needs. Courage is doing something frightening
you are for the right being even if you are alone in your belief. Many regular humans have used
courage also. For example Dr. Martin Luther King jr. stood up for all African Americans, even
though almost everyone did not agree with him. He eventually helped end segregation by
raising awareness. Sadly, Dr. Martin Luther King jr. was killed just for his beliefs. Today we
celebrate a holiday for his great bravery. Bravery is a synonym of courage. Almost all saints in their
life have shown courage. One saint that had courage was Saint Francis of Assisi. Saint Francis was
a rich man, however he ignored all his money for God. He gave up his wealthy life just for his
savior. Saint Francis would help sick people just like how Jesusdid. He would approach Lepore s
even if people thought he was crazy. Saint Francis of Assisi was a brave soldier in the army,
having no fear knowing that God was present with him. Saint Maximilian Kolbe had a vision of
Mary and she was holding two crowns, and he had to choose one. Later on his his life he was...

Case Study Of The Fall Of Enron Corporation
This report aims at overviewing the case study regarding the fall of Enron Corporation. It is a
business proposal to senior management aimed at identifying the factors and practices which led to
the failure of respective organization.
History of Enron Corporation
Enron Corporation was established in 1985, by Kenneth Lay as a result of a merger between the
natural gas pipeline companies of Houston Natural Gas and InterNorth (Healy and Palepu, 2016).
Later, it expanded into 1,800 more products or contracts and thirteen currencies (which included
bandwidth, paper and pulp, and contracts such as weather and credit derivatives), a majority of
them were not subjected to the regulatory oversight of the United States Commodity Futures
Trading Commission (CFTC) (Dembinski et al., 2006).
By 1992, Enron had become the largest seller of natural gas in North America. As recorded on
December 31, 2000, Enron s stock was priced at $83.13, and its market capitalization exceeded $60

The Process of Criminal Profiling as it Pertains to Serial...
The process of criminal profiling as it pertains to serial killers is extremely interesting and much
more common than one would first think. This study deals with the research into the
developmental and psychological approaches to serial killers. In the process of studying these
offenders, researchers have discovered that crimescene manifestations of behavioral patterns
enabled the investigators to discover much about the offender (Jones The Process of Criminal
Profiling When Applied To A Serial Killer
1). Most crime scenes can tell long detailed stories, and
with the right investigators following every detail within that story, the positive chance of finding a
conclusion to that story is not always there. Investigators must always keep... Show more content on

Profiling can piece together such a complete picture of the offender with traits of the offender s
including sex, age, occupation, disorders, upbringing, marital status, home, type of car they drive,
etc (Forensic Psychology 2).
Before the term serial killer was coined in the mid 1970 s, such murders were referred to as
stranger murders. The term stranger murders was used to differentiate the victims of serial
killings from the victims who were killed by people he or she knew, usually family members.
The great killers of history had been ones who had killed their wives, or possibly massacred their
family members one by one. For most people, the idea and the emotional components of
intrafamilial violence could seem somewhat understandable. At one time or another, most people
processed the thought of raising an angry hand at a child or spouse, and could even comprehend
how, in a fit of rage, such an emotion could escalate to murder. In contrast, the emotional
components of a stranger murder seemed unreasonable and incomprehensible to people (Ressler
and Shachtman I Have Lived In The Monster 46).
There are three possible manifestations of offender behavior at a crime scene modus operandi,
personation or signature, and staging. Each of these manifestations plays an important role of
analyzing a crime scene in terms of human behavior (Douglas and Munn 1). Modus operandi is the
offender s actions while committing the crime, and the victimology.

In Wonderland and through the looking glass world language is not only the means of
communication, the characters use it the same way as people use power; to gain superiority upon
one another. As Daniel Whiting comments: The invention view seems to assume that whether an
utterance has meaning and what meaning it has it entirely up to the speaker. [8] This can been seen
especially in the character of Humpty Dumpty, who gives his own meanings to the words. Carroll is
toying with the language and communication using its ambiguity and various references to confuse
Alice. Moreover, the communication gains a new meaning, its role is no longer to transmit a
message to the listener; it is transformed into meta communication. Most of the conversations in the
two texts consist of talks on how to communicate, Alice being the one who communicates on a
different level than the characters she encounters. As Gabriel Schwab puts it: As in a dream,
language is both malleable and concrete; words are condensed, dialogues stripped of their pragmatic
function, meanings are displaced metonymically, and references are suspended or transformed. [9]
Having pointed out the fact that Alice is copiously being challenged by the language games with
the characters, one observes another significant motif in

Essay on Biofilms
A biofilm is a layer consisting of various combinations of many different organisms, autotrophic
and heterotrophic. They are dense, organized communities of cells, encased in a self produced
slime. The bacteria grow together in water like atmospheres, attaching to a solid surface, forming a
small ecosystem. Biofilms are known as a micro environment, a micro habitat, or a slime matrix.
They help decompose dead organisms and recycle carbon and nutrients.
Biofilms are formed on almost any surface that is submerged in non sterile water. Even hot
springs, and glaciers. Examples of common places where biofilms are found are pipes, hulls of

This contains sugars such as glucose, galactose, mannose, fructose, rhamnose, N acetylglucosamine
and others. The fifth step is that the slime layer of EPS and bacteria entraps particulate materials
such as clay, organic materials, dead cells, and precipitated minerals, adding to the diverse biofilm.
The final and continuous step is when other organisms attach to the biofilms.
The formation of biofilms is not random but can be predicted by the process above. The biofilms
become attached to surfaces because of gravity, or bacteria that have a negative charge. The bacteria
senses and goes to the highest concentration of nutrients.
Biofilms are hard to treat for many reasons. The main reason is because they are highly resistant
to antibiotics. This is because the outer cells protect the inner cells from the antibiotic. Therefore,
a long term treatment of antibiotics is required to help the biofilm related infection. Living in
groups, give bacteria properties they didn t have when living alone. Another reason they re hard
to treat is because they are undefeatable by the body s natural immune defense system. Biofilms
avoid chemical disinfection in two different ways. The first is that a gel like polysaccharide layer
provides a physical barrier against any outside agent, biological or chemical. The second is that
even if a biocidal agent is introduced in a large enough quantity to eliminate the living bacteria, then

Welco Lumber Company Case Analysis
Gene Denning, an employee of Welco Lumber Company, decided to run a study by videotaping a
sample size of 365 logs being processed. However, actual data provided proved that it was a true
sample size of only 362 logs, as data for logs # 30, 123, and 127 are missing from his report. He
videotaped 3 operators, April, Sid, and Jim, marking the logs, how each log was broken down and
the degree to which the cants were properly centered. Gene then did a comparison of what the cost
was of the log in its current condition (actual value), to what would have been the correct value of
the log if the cut had been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By evaluating the data below, we can rank the operators by overall production and by revenue
loss. We have gathered that Sid is the most proficient in his overall cuts, followed by Jim, and
then by April. Further, Sid has the lowest average loss of revenue per cut by a considerable
margin over Jim and April. The most common error among operators is off center cant. See
Appendixes A B for further charts pertaining to individual operatorproduction. Also, see Appendix
D for a chart with categorized error types by operator.
Operator| Large/Small Log| Count of Large/Small Log| Sum of Actual Value| Sum of Potential
Value| Sum of Potential Gain| April| Large| 35| $1,901.76 | $2,060.76 | $159.00 | | Small| 110|

$3,193.73 | $72.90 | Grand Total| | 362| $11,498.21 | $12,233.35 | $735.14 |
Operators| Perfect Cuts| Average Loss| April| 39.31%| $2.53| Jim| 35.96%| $2.34| Sid| 71.88%| $1.25|
Question 3: Does operator performance vary based on log size?

Essay on Common Sense
One of the most fundamental people in the push for American Independence, Thomas Paine offers
much advice in both Common Sense, and The Crisis. Paine offers very strong arguments in
Common Sense, which are supported by his own reason, his sensibility, his common sense and by
his ability to draw inference from what has already happened. Paine uses every element in his
ability to help give more depth to his arguments and plans. However, of all the cases Thomas Paine
makes in Common Sense, the ultimate goal of Paine is to incite the American Public to make a
stand against British tyranny, and break from Britain altogether, and become independent.
According to Thomas Paine, rights and liberties of man come straight from each person s... Show

Paine reasons revolution is justified by the lack of other means, and his only option left to
suggest is to fight for independence. Throughout Common Sense, Thomas Paine shows that he
is against Monarchical government, and he says that the government type itself is not a
reasonable means of ruling a nation. To support this, he sheds light on several reasons in which
a monarchy is a bad choice for government. Paine says that all the power is unbalanced and
vested in the hands of a single person, which most of the time leads to the King of the nation
using the powers he has, against his people, for the benefit of himself, and those around him.
Paine also says that to have hereditary succession of a monarch is complete nonsense. Paine
uses his reason to support this case by showing that maybe a nation is lucky and has a well fit
ruler as a King, but who is to say the King s successor will be best fit for the position of King or
Queen of a country. The notion that one ruler is fair and just, does NOT guarantee that the
successor will be as just or as fair. In addition to a just cause, America is fighting with a few key
advantages. While the British have a bigger Army and a Navy as well, America would be fighting
on its own soil. To add to that, Britain also has about 6 months worth of sailing between her home
country and the colonies themselves. Another plus side for the colonies is that they could fight
Britain just as well, even with a

Who Was The Best President
Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson all Great Presidents but Who was the greatest President of all
time? A silly question maybe because all of them changed there country in a great way but out of
the 3 who helped the country the most. Obviously, It s your opinion on who s the best.
Lincoln, defiantly has his case to be the best. Lincoln had to handle a civil war at his time which
could ve torn the country apart. Which that war actually turn out to be one of the best things to
happen to this country. Slavery is done. But in my opinion the weakness of Lincoln was how many
americans we lost in that war. I know it had to happen but they shouldve at least tried to do it a

The History Of Germany
Day 1
By moving an army into Silesia, we gained their territory. Although they lack a supply center
Germany need their country to expand. They will fail as a world power we do not take over
surrounding vulnerable land. Our plan was that once we gained Silesia we would head east, to
Warsaw. This plan is now compromised due to Russia s invasion of Warsaw before we could get to
it.
The Nation that I see as the largest threat is England. One of our outstanding spies (me) lied to
England and told them we were Austria Hungary. In result they asked for an alliance and told us
their entire plan about taking over Germany. England was going after our supply centers and they
have other nations that are in on the plan. That is why me and my fellow ... Show more content on

Day 2
Germany has advanced into Norway, If we keep our army there for the next spring turn we can
possibly gain control. We have managed to keep control of our own land although we did not gain
anything new. Our team decided we needed to keep a military force close to were austria hungary
was heading towards, Resulting in us moving our army to the south of the country and our second
army attacking.
The Nations that are our current enemies are Austria hungary. We see them as a threat because we
heard them conspiring against us. They are alliances with our other enemy, England so we are
certain they can not be trusted. If Austria Hungary send any opposing forces we will have no choice
to give them our entire attention.
Our strategy is to know how long to keep an alliance. We do not want to avoid gaining land due
to our alliances so we are keeping our options open. After Russia supports us in attacking Austria
Hungary, we will not need them for anything else. If we keep our country s best interest in mind
and stop worrying about treaties, we believe we can win.
The Alliances we have formed are a triple alliance including Turkey and Russia. We have both
countries willing to support us in our attacking against Austria hungary. Once they assist us in
attacking we can assist them in their attack against England. This benefit us because we know
England is after our supply centers. If this information

COSTA RICA History and Culture of the Hispanic World I.La Conquista a.Initial Years of the
Conquista in Costa Rica Like many of countries in Central America, the arrival of Christopher
Columbus in Puerto Limon was met with troubles. However, the Ticos (as they are known)
welcomed them with open arms and exchanged gifts with Europeans who passed through the
area. Europeans were always given gold, coining the name the rich cost. Many natives fled areas
penetrated by European settlements due to diseases like smallpox and tuberculosis. Unlike
other places that were discovered , Europeans could not get the locals to work for them. So,
Europeans were left to scratch out new farms themselves. After 1821 s independence of
Guatemala, Costa Rica held elections for a new government the same year. (Shields). Once the
new government had started, it put people to work by building road ways, schools, and
encouraged businesses to start. Costa Rica never really rebelled against the Spaniards, but
followed the lead of Guatemala. b.Colonial System In 1564, Juan Vasquez de Coronado founded
the first permanent European settlement, Cartgao (been there!). (Morrison). Cartago is a city

The Development Of Restaurants Industries
Executive Summary
The development of restaurants industries has taken place in modern times of 1900 s. Customer
satisfaction includes things that is done for the comfort and improvement of customers and is
provided over the price paid for the food. Satisfying customers helps in maintaining the morale of
restaurants which would help to retain the customers for longer duration. The satisfaction need not
be in providing quality food but also in improving services given to customers. Customer
satisfaction includes providing quality foods at reasonable price.
The study of customer preferences towards restaurants is conducted in the regions of Manipal, and
Udupi region with an objective of understanding the customer s frame of mind with respect to the
restaurants and their opinion about services offered and also to measure their level of satisfaction.
The research was conducted with help of both primary and secondary data. Primary data was
collected with the help of a structured questionnaire and personal interview with the customers and
secondary data was collected through magazines and reliable sources of internet. The whole
research focussed on finding out whether the services provided by the restaurants owners could
satisfy the customers.
The findings from the study are presented in the form of charts, graphs and tables. Suggestions are
given based on findings from the study of restaurants for further improvement in the service offered
in restaurants. However there is

Little Bit (mis)Judged
Throughout United States history, the nation saw many different presidents. Some terms were too
short to evaluate the legacy, and others had many events that led to a mixed legacy. It is always
hard to rank the presidents based on the greatest, the most impactful, or even the most overrated.
Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President of the United States, arguably had an impactful presidency,
but he was also a very overrated one. His domestic policy looks good because he addressed the
Civil Rights at the right time, but at the same time his War on Poverty left unanswered problems.
His foreign affair was dominated by the horrid Vietnam War, but he also played a part for the CIA
supported coup d etats that resulted in deaths of thousands of innocent people all over the world.
In addition, Johnson did not show strong, powerful traits that most presidents should have while he
was in office. One major thing that Johnson gets credit for is addressing the civil rights. He passed
a couple of significant acts that allowed civil rights to African Americans. This is seen as one of his
positives during his term. However, an argument can be made that this could have been
accomplished during the Kennedy administration. Of course, there is much evidence that Kennedy
was in fact hesitant when it came to civil rights issues, but the Cold War played a part with Kennedy
s action. Timing did not help Kennedy while he was in office. During his tenure, Kennedy had to

The American Industrial Revolution During The 19th Century
The American Industrial Revolution began in the 1700 s and ended in the 1800 s. Most people
believe that the American Industrial Revolution began when Samuel Slater brought technology
from Britain to America. This technology allowed America to use manufacturing to quicken
production. Industrial items such as the sewing machine, river boats, trains, telegraph, and mills
allowed for growth in the United States. Immigrants from other countries gave the industrial growth
enough workers to allow the growth to keep growing. The role of factories in early Industrial
Revolutionwas to promote the growth of the United States. Factories led to the need for more
workers. More workers led to the growth of children and women in the... Show more content on

With this immigration rise, it also made it necessary for housing to move Westward for room to
live and for work to go across country.
The biggest changes that occurred during the American Revolution were that machines replaced
humans as production in the work force. This changed the work place from the fields to
factories. Conditions improved financially; but for the worker it was worse. Machines made
material faster so trade was improved between the United States and other countries. This trade
allowed for a great deal of immigration which allowed for expansion to the Western side of the
United States. The Western expansion was made possible from the rail road going through to the
West Coast. While Americans lives improved with more material things, the working conditions,
pay, and the work that they were doing was horrible. So while the industrial revolution allowed for
advances in society, it also started the fall of the society.
The industrial revolution paved the way for modern society and the way our current economic
system works. If it wasn t for the industrial revolution we wouldn t have skyscrapers, time zones,
the Brooklyn Bridge, electricity and many other liberties we take for granted. However there were
major downsides to the industrial revolution as well. Amongst these were poor treatment of many
laborers, the corruption of government, and the assassination of the president. Andrew Carnegie

Evaluation Of The Navy s Mate Launch And Recovery...

St. Manuel Bueno
Miguel de Unamuno s novel Saint Manuel Bueno, Martyr, arguably considered the masterpiece of
his literary career, challenges the reader to consider questions of immortality and truth. To answer
who should have access to the truth of life after death, Unamuno presents an intriguing relationship
between authority and freedom. I argue that the role of authority and authority figures involves
possessing truth, and deceiving the masses from this truth by providing false consolation and
denying the immortality of the soul. In contrast, freedom is limited to this earthly life, where people
cannot rebel against authority or have a concept of faith, and are convinced by the church
authorities actions.
The Church authorities in Saint Manuel are miserable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of leading people to likewise question the immortality of life, he instead uses his authority
so that the townspeople of Valverde de Lucerna never question life after death. While this
consoles both Don Manuel and the townspeople, it is ultimately a false freedom. The people are
trapped within the freedom of an earthly life, cannot rebel against the Church authority, and have a
concept of faith that rests on outward appearances and comfort rather than truth. However, this is
in direct contrast with how Unamuno himself lived his life. Unamuno often used socialist tactics
to bring the people in his town of Salamanca to consider life after death (Nozick 25). The freedom
Don Manuel constructs also contrasts with Unamuno s own ideal about freedom. Unamuno
advocated a religious individualism that seeks eternal life, while Don Manuel represents a worldly
freedom that lives for comfort. In conclusion, Unamuno in Saint Manuel uses Don Manuel as a
contrasting figure to his own ideals, in order to show the reader the reality of a life that does not
strive for the end of eternal

Why Do Primates Have A Common Ancestor
All primates have a common ancestor, from millions of years ago. Go further back, and you will
find a common ancestor for all mammals. Then a common ancestor for all vertebrates, then animals,
then all life on earth. How closely two organisms are related can be deduced by looking for
homologous structures, structures that look similar and have a similar function. This proves that
the organisms descended from a common ancestor. Station 1 contained multiple vertebrate
skeletons. They all had homologous structures, including a vertebral column and a rib cage. This
shows that all vertebrates are related and come from a common ancestor with a... Show more

Mammals are a subcategory of vertebrates, and mammals are more closely related to each other
than to other types of vertebrates. They are so closely related, in fact, that the pictures at Station 9,
of embryos of different mammals, are nearly indistinguishable. They all seem to have developing
vertebrae, heads, and limbs, that are identical. Some of these will be lost as the embryo develops.
The human embryo will lose its tail, while the dolphin embryo will lose a large part of its limbs.
Primates are a category of mammals, and apes are a type of primates. All apes come from a
common ancestor, and that includes humans. Even humans speciated multiple times before the
modern human, or homo sapiens, evolved, as evidenced by the skulls at Station 5. They were all
skulls of different species of prehistoric human. The skull most similar to the modern skull
belonged to the most recent species of human. There were times when two types of humans lived
together. The species that was best adapted to fit the environment at the time survived, while the

The main reason for the exchange year is to engage yourself with the culture and history of the city

of a blend of medieval architecture, nature and modernity. Strolling around the city, you can see its
gothic style architecture and other 16th century monuments around the city. While walking the
streets of Royal Mile, we can see the gorgeous gothic style St Giles Cathedral, streets filled with
small alleys that are like secret chambers to the hidden world and the magnificent Edinburgh Castle

I have never seen Arthur Seat and the Meadows empty. There are always people who would jog,
hike or cycle near Arthur Seat and also there must be people jogging, playing tennis, games or
enjoying the great weather (if possible) at the Meadows when it is sunny.
Furthermore, one of the important differences between in France and Edinburgh is the diversity
of people that exist here. There are a lot of people who comes from different ethnic background
and nationalities in Edinburgh. There are more than 10000 non European students in Edinburgh.
This contributes to the heterogeneity of the city. It made me have the sense of belonging in this
city and not felt foreign or as an outsider. Apart from that, in Edinburgh alone we have more than
200 Malaysians studying here. This facilitated me in adapting in Edinburgh. However, in Le
Havre, there was lack of diversity making me felt always a foreigner in its homogenous society. It
took more time for me to adapt with the French society even though I am able to speak their
language. I have always felt being judged by the people surrounding me while I was walking
around France.
It is undeniable that France is the location to taste the best cuisine in the world. However, it is
noteworthy to mention that Edinburgh has its own charm in terms of the food. There is a varied
choice of food here in Edinburgh from the Scottish traditional cuisine (haggis), fish and chips, the
English breakfast to other cuisines coming from all around the

  • 2. The Influence Of The Hippie Subculture A new Identity for American Youth An essay on how the teenage ideology was influenced by the Hippie subculture Born from the social turmoil, and the differing opinions of people during the Vietnam War. The Hippie movement first gained traction in American Colleges and Universities. These young adults during the 1950s, are considered to be the very first pioneers of the hippie subculture. Through the youths rebellious nature against the main ideals of society, and the growing popularity of the hippie subculture, hippies, through the 50s up until the 80s, have managed to cultivate and solidify a new concept of social behavior in young adults: The teenager. This essay will show us how the hippie subculture managed to change the old ideals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No doubt, John Lennon wrote this song under the influence of the hippie subculture. This song helped bring awareness to the public and teenagers alike, about the values of the Hippies. Another influential song of the Hippie era is Fortunate Son by the group Creedence Clearwater Revival. This song is a protest against the United States involvement in the Vietnam war, as the Hippies saw that the US Army s involvement in the war as a mistake. Fortunate Son addresses the issue of the discriminating way the government used forced conscription to recruit new soldiers as they forced the poor population to fight much more often than people who held more political power. As much as fifty five percent of the fighting force belonged in the working class. The message this song sends, closely associates with the Hippie subculture view of the vietnam war. This song, also being very popular to the teenage population, inspired teenagers to rebel against the government and societal norm, causing teenagers to become more aware of the Hippie subculture (since rebelling against societal norms was one of their underlying ethics.) One more artist who contributed to the change of impression in teenagers is Buffalo Springfield. For what it s worth is another protest song written in 1966. Although the literal meaning of the song is about hippies protesting a curfew at their favorite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Characteristics Of Shakespearean Tragedy 2. SHAKESPEAREAN TRAGEDY Shakespearean tragedy is the title given to most tragedies written by the playwright William Shakespeare. Shakespearean tragedy began, roughly speaking, with marked indebtedness to the tragic writing of Marlowe and Kyd: poetry, character, and style from Marlowe; motive, plot, and tragic intensity from Kyd. No evidence suggests Shakespeare was ever particularly aware of or influenced by, Aristotelian theories of tragedy . (Bevington, 1980) The plays we usually have in mind when we think about Shakespearean tragedy are the classics like Titus Andronicus (written between 1590 94), Romeo and Juliet (1594 96), Julius Caesar (1599), Hamlet (1599 1601), Othello (1603 04), King Lear (1605), Macbeth (1606 07), Antony and Cleopatra (1606 07), and Coriolanus (1608) derived from Plutarch. Troilus and Cressida, Timon of Athens, and Cymbeline were listed as tragedies in the First Folio. Characteristics of a Shakespearean tragedy are found in many of his histories, but since they are from real figures throughout England s history, they were classified as histories in the First Folio. Exceptions from this are the Roman histories, also from historical figures: Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, and Coriolanus.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Gredina, forthcoming) I am most interested in the human nature of the characters and I chose these three tragedies because their protagonists attracted my attention the most. Is Macbeth tempted to sin by the weird sisters and his wife, or is the choice to murder Duncan ultimately his? To what extent is man responsible for his tragic fate? (Bevington, 1980) The psychological aspect in his tragedies is impressive. I think the most impressive thing is that even after more than 400 years we can still study his characters and their decisions from different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What form of business organization (textbook, pp. 8 9) would you suggest each of the three friends should use, and why? (12 marks) A corporation business form is suitable for the friend who wants to start a restaurant. There are some advantages for corporation: first, a corporation is distinct from its owners. The corporation can own property, borrow, and enter into contracts. Second, the shareholders have limited liabilities, unlike other business form, they are just liable for the amount they invested. • 6. Definition Of Homeless Youth There are more than 1.6 million adolescents experiencing homelessness annually in the U.S. (Casetellanos, 2016; Rosario, et al., 2012; Schmitz Tyler, 2014). Based on national estimates, this is roughly 5% of the population (Rosario et al., 2012). The definition of homelessness is rather ambiguous which contributes to such discretion when working with the homeless population. Often, the terms homeless and runaway are used interchangeably in research studies on homeless youth. However, running away is considered episodic whereas homelessnessis a longterm circumstance (Schmitz Tyler, 2014). For the purpose of this study, homelessness is defined in it s broadest terms: individuals who are experiencing residential instability or vulnerability; individuals who are doubled up with friends, family, or sexual partners; individuals living in a place not meant for human habitation; and individuals living in emergency shelter or transitional housing (Castellanos, 2016; HUD Definition of Homeless , 2012; Rosario, et al., 2012). Lesbian, gay, and bi sexual youth compose 15 36% of homeless youth despite composing only 1.3 3.8% of the general youth population (Rosario et al., 2012). This wide margin of error is typical amongst stigmatized groups such as the LGBTQ population because there is still a legitimized fear of disclosing one s genderidentity or sexual orientation(Ream Forge, 2014). LGBT youth face higher risk of mental health problems, substance use, and sexual risk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He had found previous fame in running extravagant exhibitions, and lived up to expectations by planning the Franco British Exhibition concurrently with that year s Olympiad, held in a stadium nearby. Kiralfy saw the fair as an opportunity to gain cultural respectability; however, since he was not a trained architect, he received much criticism on his designs. He designed the Court of Honor as well as the steel frames for all of the major buildings, then consulted the architects who devised the plaster facades to create the White City. Many critics felt that he limited the creativity of the architects by giving them pre planned structures for their buildings. Placing blame on Kiralfy, they denounced the cosmetic role leading architects were asked to fulfill, pointing out the vulgar error of putting the wrong end of the stick before the horse. Once it hit the stage it was clear there was no competition. Eddie s deep, emotional messages throughout this album, his shaky, raspy voice that transfers from screaming lyrics to soft, poetic like speaking. All tied together with his hard to hate persona that can be heard throughout this album and every album made by Eddie Vedder. In the song Given To Fly Eddie says He got up out of there, ran for hundreds of miles / He made it to the ocean, had a smoke in a tree / The wind rose up, set him down on his knee. In this verse Eddie is describing his life and how he needs to get away from it all and just have a peaceful break, alone. Vedder likes to use his life in third person in most of his songs to make his message more distant, and almost more easily relatable. The song Given To Fly is actually a second or a reference to the song Going to California By Led Zeppelin and how just leaving might help out more than anything. Throughout the album there are several different songs with an abundance of different meanings. The song, Alive, has one of the deepest messages that is tied to his life personally. The song is about a boy that finds out that who he thought was his father, is actually his stepfather and his real father is dead. Eddie said the song is a work of fiction based on reality (SK) . Wuthering Heights by Emily BronteМ€ exemplifies this concept perfectly in the way the houses compare to the main characters. Wuthering Heights is the story of love and revenge between its characters. In BronteМ€ s Wuthering Heights, settings are reflected in the temperaments of these main characters: Heathcliff, Edgar Linton, and Catherine Earnshaw. First, in the novel Wuthering Heights, the character Heathcliff reflects the house Wuthering Heights. The first way Heathcliff s attributes mirror the features of Wuthering Heights is Heathcliff s incessant aggressive, bad mood. Wuthering Heights, when seen in the novel, always seems to be having turbulent weather. Heathcliff s aggression directly compares to the aggression of the weather there. The second way Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights relate is their resemblance of physical traits. Heathcliff over time does not age very well. Before the term serial killer was coined in the mid 1970 s, such murders were referred to as stranger murders. The term stranger murders was used to differentiate the victims of serial killings from the victims who were killed by people he or she knew, usually family members. The great killers of history had been ones who had killed their wives, or possibly massacred their family members one by one. For most people, the idea and the emotional components of intrafamilial violence could seem somewhat understandable. At one time or another, most people processed the thought of raising an angry hand at a child or spouse, and could even comprehend how, in a fit of rage, such an emotion could escalate to murder. In contrast, the emotional components of a stranger murder seemed unreasonable and incomprehensible to people (Ressler and Shachtman I Have Lived In The Monster 46). There are three possible manifestations of offender behavior at a crime scene modus operandi, personation or signature, and staging. Each of these manifestations plays an important role of analyzing a crime scene in terms of human behavior (Douglas and Munn 1). Modus operandi is the offender s actions while committing the crime, and the victimology. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Wonderland and through the looking glass world language is not only the means of communication, the characters use it the same way as people use power; to gain superiority upon one another. As Daniel Whiting comments: The invention view seems to assume that whether an utterance has meaning and what meaning it has it entirely up to the speaker. [8] This can been seen especially in the character of Humpty Dumpty, who gives his own meanings to the words. Carroll is toying with the language and communication using its ambiguity and various references to confuse Alice. Moreover, the communication gains a new meaning, its role is no longer to transmit a message to the listener; it is transformed into meta communication. Most of the conversations in the two texts consist of talks on how to communicate, Alice being the one who communicates on a different level than the characters she encounters. As Gabriel Schwab puts it: As in a dream, language is both malleable and concrete; words are condensed, dialogues stripped of their pragmatic function, meanings are displaced metonymically, and references are suspended or transformed. [9] Having pointed out the fact that Alice is copiously being challenged by the language games with the characters, one observes another significant motif in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The final and continuous step is when other organisms attach to the biofilms. The formation of biofilms is not random but can be predicted by the process above. The biofilms become attached to surfaces because of gravity, or bacteria that have a negative charge. The bacteria senses and goes to the highest concentration of nutrients. Biofilms are hard to treat for many reasons. The main reason is because they are highly resistant to antibiotics. This is because the outer cells protect the inner cells from the antibiotic. Therefore, a long term treatment of antibiotics is required to help the biofilm related infection. Living in groups, give bacteria properties they didn t have when living alone. Paine uses every element in his ability to help give more depth to his arguments and plans. Paine reasons revolution is justified by the lack of other means, and his only option left to suggest is to fight for independence. Throughout Common Sense, Thomas Paine shows that he is against Monarchical government, and he says that the government type itself is not a reasonable means of ruling a nation. To support this, he sheds light on several reasons in which a monarchy is a bad choice for government. Paine says that all the power is unbalanced and vested in the hands of a single person, which most of the time leads to the King of the nation using the powers he has, against his people, for the benefit of himself, and those around him. Paine also says that to have hereditary succession of a monarch is complete nonsense. Paine uses his reason to support this case by showing that maybe a nation is lucky and has a well fit ruler as a King, but who is to say the King s successor will be best fit for the position of King or Queen of a country. The notion that one ruler is fair and just, does NOT guarantee that the successor will be as just or as fair. In addition to a just cause, America is fighting with a few key advantages. While the British have a bigger Army and a Navy as well, America would be fighting on its own soil. To add to that, Britain also has about 6 months worth of sailing between her home country and the colonies themselves. • 50. Little Bit ( Mis ) Judged Little Bit (mis)Judged Throughout United States history, the nation saw many different presidents. Some terms were too short to evaluate the legacy, and others had many events that led to a mixed legacy. It is always hard to rank the presidents based on the greatest, the most impactful, or even the most overrated. Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President of the United States, arguably had an impactful presidency, but he was also a very overrated one. His domestic policy looks good because he addressed the Civil Rights at the right time, but at the same time his War on Poverty left unanswered problems. His foreign affair was dominated by the horrid Vietnam War, but he also played a part for the CIA supported coup d etats that resulted in deaths of thousands of innocent people all over the world. In addition, Johnson did not show strong, powerful traits that most presidents should have while he was in office. One major thing that Johnson gets credit for is addressing the civil rights. He passed a couple of significant acts that allowed civil rights to African Americans. This is seen as one of his positives during his term. However, an argument can be made that this could have been accomplished during the Kennedy administration. Of course, there is much evidence that Kennedy was in fact hesitant when it came to civil rights issues, but the Cold War played a part with Kennedy s action. Timing did not help Kennedy while he was in office. During his tenure, Kennedy had to deal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The American Industrial Revolution During The 19th Century The American Industrial Revolution began in the 1700 s and ended in the 1800 s. Most people believe that the American Industrial Revolution began when Samuel Slater brought technology from Britain to America. This technology allowed America to use manufacturing to quicken production. Industrial items such as the sewing machine, river boats, trains, telegraph, and mills allowed for growth in the United States. Immigrants from other countries gave the industrial growth enough workers to allow the growth to keep growing. The role of factories in early Industrial Revolutionwas to promote the growth of the United States. Factories led to the need for more workers. More workers led to the growth of children and women in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this immigration rise, it also made it necessary for housing to move Westward for room to live and for work to go across country. The biggest changes that occurred during the American Revolution were that machines replaced humans as production in the work force. This changed the work place from the fields to factories. Conditions improved financially; but for the worker it was worse. Machines made material faster so trade was improved between the United States and other countries. This trade allowed for a great deal of immigration which allowed for expansion to the Western side of the United States. The Western expansion was made possible from the rail road going through to the West Coast. While Americans lives improved with more material things, the working conditions, pay, and the work that they were doing was horrible. So while the industrial revolution allowed for advances in society, it also started the fall of the society. The industrial revolution paved the way for modern society and the way our current economic system works. If it wasn t for the industrial revolution we wouldn t have skyscrapers, time zones, the Brooklyn Bridge, electricity and many other liberties we take for granted. However there were major downsides to the industrial revolution as well. Amongst these were poor treatment of many laborers, the corruption of government, and the assassination of the president. Andrew Carnegie was a capitalist in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Evaluation Of The Navy s Mate Launch And Recovery... In order to have a better understanding for my paper, you may need to have some better understanding of Navy terms. There are only a few, and I hope that they make it easier to read my paper. I know that the paper is detailed and may be considered lengthy, but I feel that the only way to truly answer the questions is to give full disclosure. ABE Aviation Boatswain s Mate Launch and Recovery Equipment Specialist LPO Lead Petty Officer (Direct Supervisor) LCPO Lead Chief Petty Officer (General Manager) o CPO is a Chief Petty Officer (Manager) MCPON Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (CEO/President) o MCPON is the highest possible rank for enlisted personnel. While I was employed as an active duty sailor in the United States Navy, I swore an oath to upkeep the highest standards for the Navy s Core Values. Those core values included, but were not limited to; Honor, Courage, and Commitment. One Core Value that isn t actually referenced in the oath but should be, is Integrity. Integrity to me is the ability to follow a legal and responsible code of ethics, regardless who is around and who will or will not know about it. In this paper I will explain how even after years of following this code, I breached my duty of loyalty as well as my duty to act in good faith. Throughout the course of my four year contract I was deployed overseas in the Mediterranean for a period of six months. I was stationed as an ABE on the U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69). • 53. St. Manuel Bueno Miguel de Unamuno s novel Saint Manuel Bueno, Martyr, arguably considered the masterpiece of his literary career, challenges the reader to consider questions of immortality and truth. To answer who should have access to the truth of life after death, Unamuno presents an intriguing relationship between authority and freedom. I argue that the role of authority and authority figures involves possessing truth, and deceiving the masses from this truth by providing false consolation and denying the immortality of the soul. In contrast, freedom is limited to this earthly life, where people cannot rebel against authority or have a concept of faith, and are convinced by the church authorities actions. The Church authorities in Saint Manuel are miserable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of leading people to likewise question the immortality of life, he instead uses his authority so that the townspeople of Valverde de Lucerna never question life after death. While this consoles both Don Manuel and the townspeople, it is ultimately a false freedom. The people are trapped within the freedom of an earthly life, cannot rebel against the Church authority, and have a concept of faith that rests on outward appearances and comfort rather than truth. However, this is in direct contrast with how Unamuno himself lived his life. Unamuno often used socialist tactics to bring the people in his town of Salamanca to consider life after death (Nozick 25). The freedom Don Manuel constructs also contrasts with Unamuno s own ideal about freedom. Unamuno advocated a religious individualism that seeks eternal life, while Don Manuel represents a worldly freedom that lives for comfort. In conclusion, Unamuno in Saint Manuel uses Don Manuel as a contrasting figure to his own ideals, in order to show the reader the reality of a life that does not strive for the end of eternal ... • 54. Why Do Primates Have A Common Ancestor All primates have a common ancestor, from millions of years ago. Go further back, and you will find a common ancestor for all mammals. Then a common ancestor for all vertebrates, then animals, then all life on earth. How closely two organisms are related can be deduced by looking for homologous structures, structures that look similar and have a similar function. This proves that the organisms descended from a common ancestor. Station 1 contained multiple vertebrate skeletons. They all had homologous structures, including a vertebral column and a rib cage. This shows that all vertebrates are related and come from a common ancestor with a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mammals are a subcategory of vertebrates, and mammals are more closely related to each other than to other types of vertebrates. They are so closely related, in fact, that the pictures at Station 9, of embryos of different mammals, are nearly indistinguishable. They all seem to have developing vertebrae, heads, and limbs, that are identical. Some of these will be lost as the embryo develops. The human embryo will lose its tail, while the dolphin embryo will lose a large part of its limbs. Primates are a category of mammals, and apes are a type of primates. All apes come from a common ancestor, and that includes humans. Even humans speciated multiple times before the modern human, or homo sapiens, evolved, as evidenced by the skulls at Station 5. They were all skulls of different species of prehistoric human. The skull most similar to the modern skull belonged to the most recent species of human. There were times when two types of humans lived together. The species that was best adapted to fit the environment at the time survived, while the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Comparison Between Edinburgh And France 3.0Comparison between Edinburgh and France The main reason for the exchange year is to engage yourself with the culture and history of the city that you have chosen and for me it was Edinburgh. I love this city because it is the perfect example of a blend of medieval architecture, nature and modernity. Strolling around the city, you can see its gothic style architecture and other 16th century monuments around the city. While walking the streets of Royal Mile, we can see the gorgeous gothic style St Giles Cathedral, streets filled with small alleys that are like secret chambers to the hidden world and the magnificent Edinburgh Castle at the Castle Hill. From the castle, one could view the Princess Street, one of the busiest and commercial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have never seen Arthur Seat and the Meadows empty. There are always people who would jog, hike or cycle near Arthur Seat and also there must be people jogging, playing tennis, games or enjoying the great weather (if possible) at the Meadows when it is sunny. Furthermore, one of the important differences between in France and Edinburgh is the diversity of people that exist here. There are a lot of people who comes from different ethnic background and nationalities in Edinburgh. There are more than 10000 non European students in Edinburgh. This contributes to the heterogeneity of the city. It made me have the sense of belonging in this city and not felt foreign or as an outsider. Apart from that, in Edinburgh alone we have more than 200 Malaysians studying here. This facilitated me in adapting in Edinburgh. However, in Le Havre, there was lack of diversity making me felt always a foreigner in its homogenous society. It took more time for me to adapt with the French society even though I am able to speak their language. I have always felt being judged by the people surrounding me while I was walking around France. It is undeniable that France is the location to taste the best cuisine in the world. However, it is noteworthy to mention that Edinburgh has its own charm in terms of the food. There is a varied choice of food here in Edinburgh from the Scottish traditional cuisine (haggis), fish and chips, the English breakfast to other cuisines coming from all around the ...
