Similarities Between John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
The wind whistles past George s hat as he walks up the dirt path side by side with Slim, his new found
and probably only friend in the world after the previous events. Lennie lay peaceful in the clearing,
relieved of any ill thoughts or wrong doings but he was dead. Lennie was dead as a doornail and
George was the one who hammered him into this peaceful silence. There was so much sadness filled
within George he couldn t realize the freedom that he would now have without Lennie to look after, all
George was able to think of was how alone in this world he would be now. His dreams had all
involved Lennie and without Lennie there was no real dream to hold onto. As the world seemed to fall
down upon George s shoulders, Slim s face seemed to sink as deep as George s heart. Slim s eyes were
glossed over, how had it come to this? How had things gotten so bad? Slim knew by the way George
was dragging his feet that he blamed himself for what Lennie had done and now he d have to live with
what he had done to Lennie. George and Lennie were like brothers, they had always had ... Show

I ve never really had anyone to comfort and I don t know how sir, I just don t know how. Slim said
this so desperately it resembled a cry for help coming from a child stuck in a tree. That s what Slim
was, a child stuck in a tree. He understood how he got into the trouble he was in but he couldn t figure
out how to get out of the trouble he was in. The bartender looked at Slim helplessly and then his eyes
fell to the oak floor where they stayed until the bathroom door opened and from it emerged George.
His eyes looked slightly irritated but George no longer looked as if he was going to burst into tears at
any moment, his eyes had a new dull look in them and it was

Transcontinental Telegraph
The Telegraph The idea behind the telegraph was to send electric signals across wires. This originated
in the early 1700s and France was the first country to have a rough system by 1798. Eventually
following was a system which used Morse code. Professor Samuel Morse had successfully secured
funding and in 1843 a telegraph system was produced from Washington D.C. to Baltimore. The
success of the system was seen and by 1861 the first transcontinental telegraph line was built. The
telegraph was a very simple 3 part machine. It had a battery, electromagnet, and a key to connect and
disconnect the two parts. Every time the key was tapped, an electrical pulse will go through the wire
and wherever the reviving end is, the electrical pulse will create ... Show more content on

But the indirect impact was huge as it made trade much quicker as detailed information about
shipments could be sent faster than the goods themselves. It allowed for the rise of most multinational
corporations as they could run regional operations from a central head office. It aided the fight against
crime as criminals found using distance increasingly more difficult. Lastly it helped integrate women
into the world of work as operators and supervisors. This shows how the telegraph was a very
important invention for communication worldwide during the Industrial

Essay For The National Honor Society
I am deeply honored to be among the exemplary students who are being considered for the National
Honor Society. I must admit that this is something that I have been looking forward to since the
beginning of my high school career. I believe that this organization does great things in society and
that I can play a part in furthering the impression that is made. I like to think that I deserve this honor
and this chance because I have worked very hard to get here.
During the summer after ninth grade, I worked at my father s company, AAE, located in Livonia.
There I took leadership in starting a new project. In 2011, my father s business received 8A
certification. Which is given to a select few small businesses certifying them to receive and complete
government contracts. In summer of 2015, the company received the largest order it had ever seen. It
was a 3 year contract for 5 million lanyards. My father had the choice to sub contract the order to
another company, but this would result in decreased profit. I encouraged my father to complete the
order in house because this would nearly double profit. While my father and other employees
completed the technical and procedural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Last two years I received a commendable G.P.A of 4.0. As a leader, I hope to be able to use my power
to aid in the uplifting of others. I hope to prove myself to be a good example and mentor for those who
seek help. My leadership in my temple played a large role in my life. I have headed many activities for
the youth groups, including, talent shows, story hour, and lock ins. I believe that leadership is not
about one person dictating, but rather that it is a team effort. As I participate in activities where I am
the leader I make sure that I work with my peers and listen to their ideas in hopes that we can join
together to devise a creative plan of

Cerebral Palsy In Children
There are several physical disabilities a child could have such as muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, and
cerebral palsy. However, the most common physical disability in children is cerebral palsy ( Facts ).
Cerebral palsy is a disease that affects infants and children. It is a disorder of movement, posture,
and/or muscle tone usually caused by brain damage either before or soon after birth. There are a
variety of signs of cerebral palsy, oral problems as a result of this disease, and other interesting facts.
Symptoms of this disease include extreme muscle variations such as the individual being too stiff or
too floppy, lack of muscle coordination, difficulty eating or speaking, as well as tremors and/or
involuntary movements. Several problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Individuals with cerebral palsy are most likely unable to talk because of the common symptom of
having much difficulty hearing. Cerebral palsy is unfortunately also a life long disease and, in some
cases, the disability may increase with age. In addition to this, cerebral palsy can also affect different
parts of the body such as the hemiplegia (either the left or right body half), diplegia (lower body half),
or quadriplegia (the whole body). 39% of individuals with cerebral palsy are affected in the
hemiplegia area, a close 38% are affected in the diplegia area, while 23% of them are affected
throughout their whole body. Infants that are born prematurely have a 10% chance of developing
cerebral palsy sometime during or soon after their birth while infants that were born between 28 31
weeks have a 5% chance of developing this disease

Analysis of New Ideas from Dead Economists Essay
Todd G. Buchholz defines economics as the study of choice. Economists examine the consequences of
the choices people make. The creation and evolution of economics over centuries came from the ideas
of four economists: Adam Smith, Thomas Malthus, David Ricardo, John Stuart Mill, Karl Marx,
Alfred Marshall and John Maynard Keynes. These well respected economists help the theory of
economics grow and become what it is today. Economics started with the ideas of Adam Smith. He is
credited as the first true economist. He had never taught nor took a class in economics. In his book
The Wealth of Nations Smith alludes to the idea that self interest motives allows a nation to prosper
entirely. People do something in order to gain something. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Smith advocated for free trade for a country. A country should export more than it imports. This
stimulates the growth of the economy. Adam Smith was an optimist who sought the best for his
country.
On the other hand, Thomas Malthus had little hope for the future. He believed that the world s
population will increase faster than the production of food. The human race, he believed, would starve
and there would be periods of chaos. Malthus said that the population increases at an exponential rate,
nearly doubling amount. There is no way food growth would be able to catch up with population
growth. Malthus solution was War, Famine, and Plagues . He believed that was the only way to
decrease population and hopefully salvage the human race. These events would increase death rates
liberating the world of disaster. Malthus tried to persuade lower classes form creating children and
from marriage. At that time the lower classes were considered to be given higher wages, which would
increase the makings of children and marriages. Thomas Malthus pleaded with everyone to make a
change in order to decrease population. David Ricardo agreed with both the ideas of Malthus and
Smith. Ricardo strongly argued for free trade. The idea of cooperative advantage emerged. The simply
says that a nation should produce only the goods it best produces, rather than it producing every
necessity. Then the nation will be able to buy the good that it needs for cheaper and

Women s Role In Ancient Rome
Role of Women in Ancient Rome Women in ancient Rome played a vital role in the transition of
political power in the roman government. Although the Roman women were not allowed to formally
hold office or vote, they often were influencing their men in regard to political decisions. These
women were typically working in the background and although they may not get the explicit mention
they deserve in historical texts, without their actions Rome may have had a very different outcome. In
Livy s The History of Rome, three instances involving women had a significant impact on the
development of the Roman government. In Livy s first book of The History of Rome, he narrates the
events that occur around Lucretia , daughter of Lucretius. Lucretia became

The Importance Of Confucianism In Chinese Culture
China is considered to be the first modern state in the world and has existed for thousands of years.
Throughout the millennia, this civilisation and its people have continued to develop the cultural
practices such as sacred teachings, which consequently has influenced their art style. Therefore, in this
essay I will explore and compared themes such as Confucianism, Taoism and even their written word
and how those have influences art in China through the ages. The concept of Confucianism began over
two thousand five hundred years ago, and it is largely defined by three key principles. That etiquette is
integral to harmony, authority is to be respected and most importantly tradition and history is to be
remembered and revered. All three of these principles are equally important and Confucians believe
that these teachings are the best way to have a peaceful and uncorrupted society and the best way to
carry yourself as a person. However, I claimed that reverence towards tradition was the most
important principle because I have found that it is the most common theme related to Confucianism
that appears in Chinese art. You can see this in Xie He s Six Principles of Painting written in 550c. His
sixth principle of `Transmission by Copying emphasises the importance of working from the masters
artwork so you can learn from them and develop your own practice. The most common way this was
manifested is when painters remake previous masters work. It is the main way we see older

Ports are more/less secure today than on September 11, 2001:
The major security concern at the sea port environment is that terrorist may smuggle nuclear or
radiological materials through the sea containers aboard vessels into the United States. These radio
active materials could be used by terrorist to make radiological dispersal device, which if denotes
inside major city, will be catastrophic and create long time psychological effect. The Security and
Accountability for Every Port Act of 2006, as amended, mandated that all containers entering the
United States (U.S.) at the 22 ports through which the greatest container volume enters the country by

Toy Safety Standards And Regulations
The toy industry is consistently growing and expanding within the United States. In 2015, the toy
industry grew 7% in domestic sales from 2014, with a net worth of $19.48 billion. Demand for toys is
vastly seasonal with nearly 70% of toy sales taking place before, during, and just after the Christmas
season. Because of this, it is important for those within the toy industry to predict demand during peak
season in order to avoid heavy markdowns after the holidays. Lego s largest competitors are Mattel
and Hasbro. However, with Lego s net income as a percentage of sales at an impressive 24%, they
greatly surpass Mattel and Hasbro with net income coming in at 14% and 7%, respectively.
Because the toy industry makes use of assembly lines, machines, and manual labor; it is considered a
manufacturing, or secondary, industry.
The United States has some of the strictest toy safety standards and regulations in the world. Any toy
intended for use by children age 12 and under must be third party tested and certified with a Children s
Product Certificate (CPSC). However, not every section of the Children s Product Certificate may
apply to any given toy. The document is lengthy with a multitude of provisions. Each provision may
not necessarily may to any given toy. For example, toys that don t make and noise would not need to
adhere to sound provisions. Although certain sections may be exempt, each applicable provision much
be in compliance with the toy safety standard.

When asked if environmental factors had an influence on major decisions teenage girls made
pertaining to their body 40%(ten out of twenty five) of the teenage girls stated that environment
factors have influenced their decision on their body. Thirty six percent (nine out of twenty five) of the
young ladies surveyed responded that they have people they can talk to in their home or neighborhood
when making decisions. Sadly, only 20% of the young ladies recorded being aware of the correct
usage of contraceptives before their first sexual experience. Seventy two percent (eighteen out of

percent of the young ladies surveyed stated they lived in a financially stable home. What constituted a
financially stable home in this research was a parent or parents who have been working a job
consistently for 6 months or more. Forty four percent (eleven out of twenty five) of the young ladies
agreed that promiscuous behavior led to unwanted pregnancies. The young ladies who did not agree
often bought up friends and family members around them who were very promiscuous and did not get
pregnant like they did. Forty percent (ten out of twenty five) stated they understood how the spread of
HIV and STIs are transmitted. A common pattern the teenage girls stated is that you can tell when

My Yoga Pants Essay
My Yoga Pants
Another day I wake up and stand in front of the mirror, pulling my hair back and onto my day. I could
tell you I was doing this daily because it felt easier than doing my hair and putting on some mascara;
but the truth is, the reflection staring back at me was starting to change. I thought I had no reason to

home at that....I was feeling more comfortable while hiding behind my hat and shades.
My moments of looking at myself were getting shorter and shorter on purpose. In those moments I
had thoughts like, You re getting bags under your eyes? and There s no way you can be aging that fast.
It felt easier just to cover up and walk away. I was starting to feel less than.

PEST stands for political, economical, social and technological factors. Two more factors, the legal
and environmental factor, are defined within the PESTLE analysis. To explain these environmental
factors, it is necessary to say that most of the factors depend on each other and that they change over
the years. Consequently, when one factor changes it also affects the others. The equality for every
company is the main characteristic of the factors in an environmental analysis. The different
environmental factors are covered below.
 Political and legal factors
Political and legal factors are here regarded as a unit. They refer to framework given by politics. The

White Privilege Sociology
White privilege is a form of structural racism where whites are routinely advantaged while producing
adverse outcomes for people of color such as Blacks and Hispanics. White privilege is a historically
based system which still exists in the United States (US). In my view, white privilege system marked
the beginning of racial inequality in the US. White privilege exists in the United States and is one of
the contributing factors to the injustices people with color are facing in the US.
White privilege is a unique form of racism given its fascinating characteristic of not involving
hostility. Therefore, it cannot be directly blamed on someone (Pludo, 2015). The lack of blame does
not cause any discomfort on the white persons enjoying the privileges. ... Show more content on

For instance, in a scenario when an injustice occurs when a white is favored against a nonwhite who is
in a similar situation as the white person (same social class, same education or same job skills).
Neoliberalism has partly contributed to racial inequality in the US. The concept that the free market is
the best way to organize a society greatly favors the white (Pludo, 2015). However, the social
formation needs not to be considered racist.
Although efforts have been made to fight white supremacy, nonwhites continue to face injustices
based on their color. The US has made efforts towards liberal multicultural era whereby white
supremacy is obscured by certain events. The election of President Obama was a step towards liberal
multicultural era (Melamed, 2011). Obama s government made efforts to empower people with color
in the US.
Whites are less likely to encounter with the police compared to African Americans. African Americans
are twice likely to be arrested and almost four times likely to experience the use of force during police
encounters (Costly, 2011). As stated earlier, other sociological factors need to be eliminated to
attribute the high number of Black arrests to race. Poverty is known to be a predisposing factor for

ω 3 LONG CHAIN POLYUNSATURATED FATTY ACID INTERVENTION ON AGE RELATED
MACULAR DEGENERATION AMD is a leading cause of vision loss among people age 50 and
older. It causes damage to the macula and affects central color vision. AMD is classified into two main
forms: non neovascular (known as dry or nonexudative) or neovascular (known as wet or
exudative)92 form. Both ω 3 and ω 6 LCPUFAs are essential fatty acids93 enriched in photoreceptors,
leading to the investigation of the correlation between dietary ω 3 LCPUFAs intake and the risk for
AMD. High dietary intake of ω 3 LCPUFA (DHA 100 800 mg/day plus EPA 30 60 mg/day) and

In the retrospective AREDS1 investigation, participants (with moderate high risk of progression to
advanced AMD, median age 69 years) with the highest ω 3 LCPUFA intake (0.11% of total energy

AMD8. AREDS2 (participants with high risk of advanced AMD progression, median age 74 years)
was then designed to prospectively evaluate the impact of ω 3 LCPUFA supplementation on AMD
progression103. After five years, addition of ω 3 LCPUFA (DHA 650 mg/day plus EPA 350 mg/day)
to the AREDS formulation did not further reduce the risk of progression to advanced AMD in this
group of well nourished participants104. Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that the baseline level of ω 3
LCPUFA in the treated group was much higher than in AREDS1 likely due to self supplementation
and higher dietary intake of ω 3 LCPUFA. In a study of Japanese population with high intake of fish
oil, no significant association is shown between serum ω 3 LCPUFA and AMD105. This suggests that
there may be a minimum level of ω 3 LCPUFA required for the maintenance of retinal stability and
supplementing above that level may not increase

The European Exploration Of America
The discovery of America opened up the door for many people to find a new home and also a new
identity. The European explorers of the late 15th and 16th centuries did not discover America; the
native people had already lived and flourished there for many years. The European exploration of
America is notable because it is the start of the mentality among Americans the fuels the need to travel
from home in order to find oneself. Since the beginning, the settlers in America have been people who
left home to find a new life where they could live successful lives. While this is a theme in all types of
literature, it is one that is especially prevalent in American literature because the settlers were an entire
people who left their home in search of something better. Some of those people left to find themselves
in their religion or to find new ways to make money, but all in all the discovery of America was also
the discovery of a new people. The sensation of discovery fueled the early explorers, the settlers, the
revolutionaries, the transcendentalists, and American people to this day. The beginning of this trend in
American literature was when the first Europeans found the Americas.
Christopher Columbus is regarded as the man who discovered America, when is reality he only
discovered the Caribbean. Author and Professor Gerald Vizenor believes the appropriate this to say is
that Columbus found the Americas because the land mass already had many people living on it and
had contact

Rebellion In Paradise Lost Essay
Rebellion in a Nutshell: The Plights of Satan, Will, and Lyra Normally, someone wouldn t be arguing
that Satan was the hero of the story, or even good in any sense of the word. Pullman s The Amber
Spyglass and Milton s Paradise Lost share many similarities, but none were as striking as the view on
authoritarianism and eventual rebellion. In the first, The Amber Spyglass, Pullman shows the main
characters Will and Lyra in a constant struggle against the ruling authority, the church. In the second,
Paradise Lost, Milton displays Satan in a never ending battle for his own freedom from God s ruling
hand. In either story, the reader is made invested, but the two rebellions are not equal. In The Amber
Spyglass, the main characters win against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This quote comes about from the idea that God wanted the angels to worship Adam, but since Satan is
senior to Adam, he feels wronged, and refuses to bow down to man. God was not only displaying his
own authority over all of the angel s lives, another knock to free will, but also wanted to extend that
authority to another being. Whether that being was Adam or the son, Satan didn t want anything to do
with that proposition, and as such rebelled along with other angels. God proves his omniscience in
these instances, and also dominates over Satan, showing that the angel has no free will of his own in
these matters, and only plays into the hands of God. That said, he still at least tries to rebel, though it
fails ultimately, since it isn t feasible to call it successful if it was in the master s plans all along. On
the side of the more successful Will and Lyra, there are interesting points to touch on when it comes to
their own rebellion. Anne Marie Robinson does a fantastic job at giving examples of the strange
relationship that people have to the church. When they were in the land of the dead, Robinson points
out that, One ghost is unwilling to consider Lyra s offer; while still alive, he had believed in the
salvation of heaven after death, and since he is dead he thinks he obviously must be in heaven. He is
an example of those who follow religious leaders blindly, without considering for themselves what the

Design Elements And Principles Of Art
This simple but intricate piece of art can be found on the walls of the second floor in the CFA.
Although the fan is fairly small and often times over looked, when examined, its fine detail gives it
character. This paper will address all aspects of design elements and principles. In addition provide
information about the artist and how their background influenced the art, and choice of design.
Line, Dimension, and Quality
The first thing that can be noticed about this piece of art work is the accordion (the span of a fan when
completely unfolded). Most hand held fans are known to have the opening with of at the most 180
degrees, with some form of fabric or string holding each leaf (the individual slices of a fan) together.
However what made this fan different from other generic fans is that it was folded. This implies that
the artist spent time folding the paper back and forth with delicacy and focus. The folds also tell me
about dimension. Even though the fan was stretched out it was clear that the fan folded where the
creases were. I could tell that the hinges (where two leaves meet) are not very far apart, which means
if the fan was to be closed, it would be very thick.
Ironically the image painted on the fan, and the fan as a whole has some characteristic that would fall
into one of the four categories of shape. The most prominent would be natural and no objective. The
artist clearly communicates the scenery of nature.
The scenery illustrated on the fan is a great

Chemical and Biological Uses of Weapons of Mass Destruction
Chemical and Biological Uses of WMD
The threat by terrorist groups in using Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) has increased
significantly in the recent years. Preventing the creation and the utilization of these deadly weapons as
well as their delivery systems and reducing those already in existence, has become of extreme
importance to the government. Certain weapons of mass destruction, such as chemical and biological,
are easier to acquire but much harder to detect. For that reason, they should be the highest priority.
Predicting when and how an attack will occur, involving chemical or biological weapons, is not 100
percent possible; however, individuals should not ignore the possibility of such an attack happening
here on American soil. In the past, there have been attacks involving Sarin gas, such as the Tokyo
Subway attack, and just recently, the Sarin nerve agent use in Syria. Terrorist have the capability to
use chemical WMD and have shown that they are willing to use this method in warfare. In addition,
military biological WMD programs discovered in Iraq and Russia show that there is a definite
biological threat as well. Preparing America to face this threat head on is a daunting task, but lacking
preparedness could have devastating consequences beyond comprehension. Agencies, such as public
health organizations, must be prepared to prevent illness and injuries resulting from biological and
chemical terrorism, especially with a concealed attack by a terrorist.

Two language children can inhibit their actions and thoughts due to practice of doing this through the
learning of two languages. They will often have to switch dialects if they are learning multiple
languages, and when they do, they must inhibit speech (or possibly thought) from the other language
they re learning so it doesn t leak over into their current conversational dialect. Through repeated
practice of this they gain skill in inhibition that surpasses that of one language children. 4. TOM

a task where they would have to inhibit their announcement of the correct answer (in regard to the
location of a piece of chocolate), they can successfully do so, thus attributing the location of the
chocolate to someone else s previous exposure, not the infant s current exposure. The infants show
more understanding of different possible options of a person/situation, which could be instilled from

Essay on The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz
The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz Duddy is No Monster
I think you re rotten, says Yvette at the end of The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, I wish you were
dead (Richler 318). This sentiment is echoed throughout a substantial amount of the criticism of
Mordecai Richler s tale. At best, we question whether Duddy has learned anything during his
apprenticeship; at worst, we accuse him of taking a tremendous step backwards, of becoming an
utterly contemptible human being. When Duddy steals money from his friend and admirer, Virgil, to
pay for the final parcel of land around Lac St. Pierre, it may seem that he has sunk to a low from
which he may never recover; but careful consideration of the events leading up to the theft, the ...

The force of Max s storytelling teaches Duddy that the Boy Wonder is someone to be emulated. In
Duddy Kravitz, from Apprentice to Legend, Grant McGregor describes Duddy s life as apprenticeship
to a perverted myth (McGregor 133), and in many ways this is true. Although he presents an image of
success, and Max Kravitz s tales make him out to be the ultimate accomplished businessman, Jerry
Dingleman is a corrupt, cruel person. For his entire life, Duddy has been told that he will never
succeed, but he is resilient. With the Boy Wonder as his example, Duddy intends to prove everyone
wrong. He liked to think, in fact, that point for point he was a lot like the Boy Wonder before he had
made his name (62). The audience is made aware, fairly early on, that the Boy Wonder is a crook, but
this information eludes Duddy until far into the story, when Duddy has already achieved some
measure of success by his own means, part of it by the trickery he mastered during his high school
years, but now that he has matured quite a bit, also by sheer hard work.
Duddy fights a continual uphill battle for success; he wants to be someone of whom his father is
proud, like his brother Lennie, or the Boy Wonder himself. To Irwin Shubert and the other waiters at
Rubin s Hotel Lac des Sables in Ste. Agathe des Monts, There [was] nothing that little fiend wouldn t
do for a dollar (77), but Duddy was interested in success even more than money, not for the sheer
material joy

Aaron Feuerstein-a Socially Responsible Owner
Case 1
Aaron Feuerstein A Socially Responsible Owner
The evening of December 11, 1995, was a special time for Aaron Feuerstein, CEO of Malden Mills. A
small surprise 70th birthday party quietly was held in his honor at a local Boston restaurant. But
Feuerstein s life took a dramatic turn that evening for a different reason: A boiler at his company s
plant exploded, setting off a fire that injured 33employees and destroyed three of the factory s century
old buildings. Malden Mills was a privately owned firm, with Feuerstein owning a majority share. The
firm was located in a small Massachusetts town, Methuen, and employed nearly 3,000 people in the
economically depressed area. The fire was a devastating blow for the community. According ... Show

The Bank of Boston donated $50,000, the company s union sent $100,000, and the Chamber of
Commerce in nearby Lawrence, Massachusetts, contributed $150,000. Many of Malden Mills
customers promised to stick with the company and wait for them to rebuild and regain their
production capacity rather than switch to a competitor.
Just eight months after the fire, three of the four production lines at Malden Mills were fully
operational and all but 500 of the nearly 2,400 employees were back to work in the factory. But
unexpected downturns in the apparel industry challenged the wisdom of Feuerstein s actions. By 1998,
employees at Malden Mills experienced steady layoffs and the firm acquired $120 million in debt.
Under the leadership of new chief operating officer Gerald Bowe, following the values of the
company s founder, Malden Mills experienced a turnaround in 1999. Hourly employee recalls
numbered 1,500, bringing the total number of employees back to the level at the time of fire.
Government and overseas contracts countered the decline in sales in the competitive domestic market,
and Malden Mills appeared to be recovering from its financial setbacks as the firm entered the twenty
first century. Aaron Feuerstein s commitment to both the company s economic and social mission and
goals appeared to have emerged from ashes intact.
Questions:
1. Which principle of social responsibility was the basis of Aaron

Elizabeth The Film Essay
Elizabeth The Film Theme of the Film: How Elizabeth managed to gain the throne through turmoil,
and then maintain it through even greater conflict and opposition.
Greatest Surprise of the Film: The attention to detail and the symbolism employed to make the story
richer than any other period piece. The script was also very well written, and very well paced making
the movie much more enjoyable to watch because it was interesting and did not drag.
Historical Characters Prioritized: Elizabeth I, Duke of Leicester, Sir William Cecil, Walsingham, Duke
of Norfolk, Mary Queen of Scots, and the Vatican, various potential suitors to Elizabeth I.

Critique of the Film: I thought Elizabeth was an amazing film, part period piece, part power struggle,
part love story. This film has the elements of a classic film. It is, as a whole, riveting, accurate, and
educational.
Play the Role of a Reviewer for the New Yorker: Consider:
(a) What was left out? Much of Elizabeth s latter rule was left out, instead the film opted to tell the
story behind her rise to power, and he she eventually gained a foothold on her power, securing herself
as The Virgin Queen of England. Other things that were left out were Elizabeth s formative years as a
child, although both of these really had little significance or bearing on the story that was being told in
this film.
(b) What was inaccurate? Nothing that I saw was not based on facts or completely accurate. The script
was highly researched as well all of the elements to the film were. Costumes and sets were perfectly in
check with the time period. Language was also very accurate with the times. I would say that much
attention to detail and accuracy was paid towards all elements of this film. This gives the film a
historical integrity while also making it very interesting and entertaining. This did not feel like a
boring Merchant Ivory movie. To me, this film was a kind of Goodfellas of the sixteenth century.
(c) Were conclusions drawn not warranted by the facts? Yes, as a character, Elizabeth wanted to

Seatbelt
Safety is the first thing that should come to mind when riding in a car. There are many advertisements
that promote wearing a seatbelt all the time while driving or simply being a passenger. It has been
advertised through images, posters, commercials, and through social media. Some images are more
effective than others, because it uses a powerful meaning or song details. The reason tis due to many
fatal injuries and deaths have occurring for not wearing a seatbelt. Injuries are also the reason behind
those specific laws requiring to wear a seatbelt. It is it not worth sacrificing a life, especially that of
life of a young child, because the injury could have been prevented. It is up to the reader to clearly

Truth is, it can happen to anyone. A person s life is never secure. That is what the first image presents,
a shirt with the date of person s birthday year 1993, following a dash, following the death year of the
specific person. However, this death year is covered by the seatbelt. This seatbelt covering up the
death year explains that a person who wears the seatbelt, could prevent own death. This is, also the
very important message the viewer must grasp. There are no words to further explain the image. This
is the reason the image clearly gives the message, rather than explain it with words. This is also the
relation of why the ad is an implicit appeal. It does not have anything spelled out which will make the
reader really understand it. Rather it is implied, and the reader must fully comprehend the message.
Although it is a positive message, it is presented with negative effects that can

How Childhood Is The Most Influential Stage Of Life
Some say that childhood is the most influential stage of life, the stage that shapes the future for that
child into how they will develop into adulthood. With this in mind, we are always watching what our
children are learning, and providing them with the building blocks that will help them grow up into a
good person someday, we watch and guide them, being careful they are not exposed to some things
too early and others not too late. Take fairy tales for example. Kids today know all the fairy tales, or at
least most of them. But they only know what we let them see, which, in most cases is the revised
Disney version of fairy tales that always have a happy ending and are therefore deemed appropriate
for young children. However now some are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This name came from her appearance, as she was always covered in dust and dirt from sleeping in the
ashes by the fire (Grimm 1).Although the main abuse that is depicted in this story is attributed to
Cinderella, the stepsisters are also abused by their mother. When the prince urges them to try on the
shoe, each of their feet did not fit. For one her toes did not fit, and so her mother told her to cut off her
big toe in order to make it fit. As for the other, her heel was too large and therefore she was told to cut
a piece of her heel off. And to both girls she had used the same phrase; Cut off [a piece of your
heel/your toe]. When you are queen you will no longer have to go on foot. (Grimm 4) which shows
how she encouraged the girls to mutilate themselves. This in an of itself is terrible and in the end it
didn t even work. Aside from the amount of abuse that is depicted in this story, it also paints a
negative picture of what having a stepfamily is like. Children tend to try and apply what they learn to
their lives, and if they get this idea of stepfamily treating others badly, it may affect them in the future,
should they ever become a part of one. They may make assumptions about them from what they have
learned, thus affecting their relationship with their stepparent or stepsibling(s). Another aspect of
Cinderella that is most known about is her leaving behind her glass

Media Manipulation
There is a very subtle, yet powerful force at work on our world today. It is trying to control what
woman and young girls do say and believe, especially about their own appearances. The media
portrays unrealistic images that affect the way people, particularly woman, feel about themselves. And
there is no way to avoid it. The media acts as a transmitter of potentially dangerous, socially desirable
values and norms. Anyone can become a victim without even realizing it. Woman are told to believe

Commercials, billboards, and magazines now have become sly and seductive sellers tolls. The clever,
catchy tunes that tell woman their bodies aren t good enough get placed in the back of a woman s
mind never to escape. It s proof of the power of influence. According to Bakari Chavanu, author of an
article in rethinkingschools.org, quot;Students today are more influenced by the popular media outside
the classroom that by the textbooks and novels they are forced to read. By the time a person graduates
high school they watch 22,000 hours of television, and they ve seen 350,000 commercials by the age
of seventeen. quot; (www.rethinkingschools.org). They watch it all voluntarily, unable to recognize the
damage being done. The images in and on TV shape the values of young people as well as adults.
Sadly, these same images are part of a culture in which one out of every woman has an eating disorder,
(Levinson 46) girls and younger woman increasingly have problems with low self esteem that
eventually leads to dangerous behavior, (www.ed.gov. ERIC...) and where illusions are almost always
shattered. Through ads and other media woman are told to believe that the average woman in the real
world is white, under 40, not disabled, always heterosexual, and her body (even though absolutely
beautiful) is in constant need of improvement.

The Intruder, A P, And The Bass, The River And Soul
Some of the best lessons we ever learn are learned from past mistakes. The error of the past is the
wisdom of the future (Dale Turner). This quote is about the theme of learning from your mistakes
which are used commonly in adolescent stories. Our adolescent years is where we experience various
lessons which help shape what we think when we are older and without a doubt the lesson of learning
from your mistakes is a crucial one and one we all have experienced in our own lives. Some specific
stories that incorporate this theme are The Intruder , A P , and The bass, The River and Sheila Mant .
In coming of age stories, the authors utilize the lesson of learning from your mistakes.
The first story that helps support the thesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I never want to see it again. (15 16). This quote displays that Kenneth doesn t want to live in his wild
imagination anymore and he doesn t want to make the same mistake again. Kenneth throwing the rifle
into the creek symbolizes Kenneth learning from his mistakes and him getting rid of the terror that the
rifle will now bring him whenever he uses it. The Intruder is a great example of the lesson of learning
from your mistakes because in the story Kenneth makes a devastating mistake, he realizes it, he learns
from it and most importantly he does something so it won t happen again.
The second story that helps support the thesis statement is A P . In this story a boy named Sammy,
tries to impress a group of girls by quitting his job as the girls were being kicked out of the store
where Sammy works. Sammy shortly after quitting realizes the mistake he has made and how is was
going to make his life tougher. One quote that displays this lesson is: Sammy, you don t want to do
this to your Mom and Dad, he tells me. It s true, I don t. But it seems to me that once you begin a
gesture it s fatal not to go through with it. This quote shows that Sammy doesn t even want to do what
he is doing and he knows it s a mistake, but he continues with it anyways. The quote also claims that
this will not only affect him but also his parents. When your actions start affecting others negatively, it
feels way worse than

  • 2. Similarities Between John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men The wind whistles past George s hat as he walks up the dirt path side by side with Slim, his new found and probably only friend in the world after the previous events. Lennie lay peaceful in the clearing, relieved of any ill thoughts or wrong doings but he was dead. Lennie was dead as a doornail and George was the one who hammered him into this peaceful silence. There was so much sadness filled within George he couldn t realize the freedom that he would now have without Lennie to look after, all George was able to think of was how alone in this world he would be now. His dreams had all involved Lennie and without Lennie there was no real dream to hold onto. As the world seemed to fall down upon George s shoulders, Slim s face seemed to sink as deep as George s heart. Slim s eyes were glossed over, how had it come to this? How had things gotten so bad? Slim knew by the way George was dragging his feet that he blamed himself for what Lennie had done and now he d have to live with what he had done to Lennie. The bartender looked at Slim helplessly and then his eyes fell to the oak floor where they stayed until the bathroom door opened and from it emerged George. This originated in the early 1700s and France was the first country to have a rough system by 1798. Eventually following was a system which used Morse code. Professor Samuel Morse had successfully secured funding and in 1843 a telegraph system was produced from Washington D.C. to Baltimore. The success of the system was seen and by 1861 the first transcontinental telegraph line was built. The telegraph was a very simple 3 part machine. It had a battery, electromagnet, and a key to connect and disconnect the two parts. Every time the key was tapped, an electrical pulse will go through the wire and wherever the reviving end is, the electrical pulse will create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But the indirect impact was huge as it made trade much quicker as detailed information about shipments could be sent faster than the goods themselves. It allowed for the rise of most multinational corporations as they could run regional operations from a central head office. • 4. Essay For The National Honor Society I am deeply honored to be among the exemplary students who are being considered for the National Honor Society. I must admit that this is something that I have been looking forward to since the beginning of my high school career. I believe that this organization does great things in society and that I can play a part in furthering the impression that is made. I like to think that I deserve this honor and this chance because I have worked very hard to get here. During the summer after ninth grade, I worked at my father s company, AAE, located in Livonia. There I took leadership in starting a new project. In 2011, my father s business received 8A certification. Which is given to a select few small businesses certifying them to receive and complete government contracts. In summer of 2015, the company received the largest order it had ever seen. It was a 3 year contract for 5 million lanyards. My father had the choice to sub contract the order to another company, but this would result in decreased profit. I encouraged my father to complete the order in house because this would nearly double profit. While my father and other employees completed the technical and procedural ... • 6. Analysis of New Ideas from Dead Economists Essay Todd G. Buchholz defines economics as the study of choice. Economists examine the consequences of the choices people make. The creation and evolution of economics over centuries came from the ideas of four economists: Adam Smith, Thomas Malthus, David Ricardo, John Stuart Mill, Karl Marx, Alfred Marshall and John Maynard Keynes. These well respected economists help the theory of economics grow and become what it is today. Economics started with the ideas of Adam Smith. He is credited as the first true economist. He had never taught nor took a class in economics. In his book The Wealth of Nations Smith alludes to the idea that self interest motives allows a nation to prosper entirely. People do something in order to gain something. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Smith advocated for free trade for a country. A country should export more than it imports. This stimulates the growth of the economy. Adam Smith was an optimist who sought the best for his country. On the other hand, Thomas Malthus had little hope for the future. He believed that the world s population will increase faster than the production of food. The human race, he believed, would starve and there would be periods of chaos. Malthus said that the population increases at an exponential rate, nearly doubling amount. There is no way food growth would be able to catch up with population growth. Malthus solution was War, Famine, and Plagues . He believed that was the only way to decrease population and hopefully salvage the human race. These events would increase death rates liberating the world of disaster. Malthus tried to persuade lower classes form creating children and from marriage. At that time the lower classes were considered to be given higher wages, which would increase the makings of children and marriages. Thomas Malthus pleaded with everyone to make a change in order to decrease population. David Ricardo agreed with both the ideas of Malthus and Smith. Ricardo strongly argued for free trade. The idea of cooperative advantage emerged. The simply says that a nation should produce only the goods it best produces, rather than it producing every necessity. Then the nation will be able to buy the good that it needs for cheaper and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the Roman women were not allowed to formally hold office or vote, they often were influencing their men in regard to political decisions. These women were typically working in the background and although they may not get the explicit mention they deserve in historical texts, without their actions Rome may have had a very different outcome. In Livy s The History of Rome, three instances involving women had a significant impact on the development of the Roman government. • 8. The Importance Of Confucianism In Chinese Culture China is considered to be the first modern state in the world and has existed for thousands of years. Throughout the millennia, this civilisation and its people have continued to develop the cultural practices such as sacred teachings, which consequently has influenced their art style. Therefore, in this essay I will explore and compared themes such as Confucianism, Taoism and even their written word and how those have influences art in China through the ages. The concept of Confucianism began over two thousand five hundred years ago, and it is largely defined by three key principles. That etiquette is integral to harmony, authority is to be respected and most importantly tradition and history is to be remembered and revered. All three of these principles are equally important and Confucians believe that these teachings are the best way to have a peaceful and uncorrupted society and the best way to carry yourself as a person. However, I claimed that reverence towards tradition was the most important principle because I have found that it is the most common theme related to Confucianism that appears in Chinese art. You can see this in Xie He s Six Principles of Painting written in 550c. His sixth principle of `Transmission by Copying emphasises the importance of working from the masters artwork so you can learn from them and develop your own practice. The most common way this was manifested is when painters remake previous masters work. It is the main way we see older ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Toy Safety Standards And Regulations The toy industry is consistently growing and expanding within the United States. In 2015, the toy industry grew 7% in domestic sales from 2014, with a net worth of $19.48 billion. Demand for toys is vastly seasonal with nearly 70% of toy sales taking place before, during, and just after the Christmas season. Because of this, it is important for those within the toy industry to predict demand during peak season in order to avoid heavy markdowns after the holidays. Lego s largest competitors are Mattel and Hasbro. However, with Lego s net income as a percentage of sales at an impressive 24%, they greatly surpass Mattel and Hasbro with net income coming in at 14% and 7%, respectively. Because the toy industry makes use of assembly lines, machines, and manual labor; it is considered a manufacturing, or secondary, industry. The United States has some of the strictest toy safety standards and regulations in the world. Any toy intended for use by children age 12 and under must be third party tested and certified with a Children s Product Certificate (CPSC). However, not every section of the Children s Product Certificate may apply to any given toy. The document is lengthy with a multitude of provisions. Each provision may not necessarily may to any given toy. For example, toys that don t make and noise would not need to adhere to sound provisions. Although certain sections may be exempt, each applicable provision much be in compliance with the toy safety standard. The toy industry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

White privilege exists in the United States and is one of the contributing factors to the injustices people with color are facing in the US. Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that the baseline level of ω 3 LCPUFA in the treated group was much higher than in AREDS1 likely due to self supplementation and higher dietary intake of ω 3 LCPUFA. The European explorers of the late 15th and 16th centuries did not discover America; the native people had already lived and flourished there for many years. The European exploration of America is notable because it is the start of the mentality among Americans the fuels the need to travel from home in order to find oneself. Since the beginning, the settlers in America have been people who left home to find a new life where they could live successful lives. While this is a theme in all types of literature, it is one that is especially prevalent in American literature because the settlers were an entire people who left their home in search of something better. Some of those people left to find themselves in their religion or to find new ways to make money, but all in all the discovery of America was also the discovery of a new people. The sensation of discovery fueled the early explorers, the settlers, the revolutionaries, the transcendentalists, and American people to this day. The beginning of this trend in American literature was when the first Europeans found the Americas. In the first, The Amber Spyglass, Pullman shows the main characters Will and Lyra in a constant struggle against the ruling authority, the church. This quote comes about from the idea that God wanted the angels to worship Adam, but since Satan is senior to Adam, he feels wronged, and refuses to bow down to man. God was not only displaying his own authority over all of the angel s lives, another knock to free will, but also wanted to extend that authority to another being. Whether that being was Adam or the son, Satan didn t want anything to do with that proposition, and as such rebelled along with other angels. God proves his omniscience in these instances, and also dominates over Satan, showing that the angel has no free will of his own in these matters, and only plays into the hands of God. That said, he still at least tries to rebel, though it fails ultimately, since it isn t feasible to call it successful if it was in the master s plans all along. On the side of the more successful Will and Lyra, there are interesting points to touch on when it comes to their own rebellion. Anne Marie Robinson does a fantastic job at giving examples of the strange relationship that people have to the church. When they were in the land of the dead, Robinson points out that, One ghost is unwilling to consider Lyra s offer; while still alive, he had believed in the salvation of heaven after death, and since he is dead he thinks he obviously must be in heaven. In addition provide information about the artist and how their background influenced the art, and choice of design. Line, Dimension, and Quality The first thing that can be noticed about this piece of art work is the accordion (the span of a fan when completely unfolded). Most hand held fans are known to have the opening with of at the most 180 degrees, with some form of fabric or string holding each leaf (the individual slices of a fan) together. However what made this fan different from other generic fans is that it was folded. This implies that the artist spent time folding the paper back and forth with delicacy and focus. The folds also tell me about dimension. Even though the fan was stretched out it was clear that the fan folded where the creases were. I could tell that the hinges (where two leaves meet) are not very far apart, which means if the fan was to be closed, it would be very thick. Ironically the image painted on the fan, and the fan as a whole has some characteristic that would fall into one of the four categories of shape. The most prominent would be natural and no objective. Chemical and Biological Uses of Weapons of Mass Destruction Chemical and Biological Uses of WMD The threat by terrorist groups in using Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) has increased significantly in the recent years. Preventing the creation and the utilization of these deadly weapons as well as their delivery systems and reducing those already in existence, has become of extreme importance to the government. Certain weapons of mass destruction, such as chemical and biological, are easier to acquire but much harder to detect. For that reason, they should be the highest priority. Predicting when and how an attack will occur, involving chemical or biological weapons, is not 100 percent possible; however, individuals should not ignore the possibility of such an attack happening here on American soil. In the past, there have been attacks involving Sarin gas, such as the Tokyo Subway attack, and just recently, the Sarin nerve agent use in Syria. Terrorist have the capability to use chemical WMD and have shown that they are willing to use this method in warfare. In addition, military biological WMD programs discovered in Iraq and Russia show that there is a definite biological threat as well.
