Symbolism In The Bean Trees
Human nature is the psychological similarities and thought processes of humans. Key examples of this
in The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver are social groups, the desire of freedom, and self growth.
Conversation and symbolism in the setting illustrate these instincts.
Humans instinctively separate into groups resembling themselves. In our school there were different
groups you would run with, depending on your station in life... The poor kids... We were called
Nutters... The most important rule was that there was no mixing. Do you understand what I mean? ...
Yes, he said. In India they have something called the caste system. Members of different castes cannot
marry or even eat together. The lowest caste is called the Untouchables. (Kingsolver, 133). Despite
living distant childhoods, both Estevan and Taylor understood social division and its rules of
disconnecting from other circles.
Freedom is another human instinct displayed by Kingsolver. He told me that the national symbol of
Guatemala was the quetzal, a beautiful green bird... I had seen military macaws at the zoo, and
wondered if the quetzal was anything like those. He said no. If you tried ... Show more content on

The flowers open for only one night of the year, and then they are gone (Kingsolver 185). Like the
night blooming cereus, people tend to grow during dark times. Esperanza experienced closure of
losing Ismene while losing others. We love her. Maybe someday we will have more children, but not
now. Now is so hard. We move around so much, we have nothing, no home. Esperanza was sobbing.
This was no act... Here were a mother and her daughter, nothing less... who were going to be taken
apart. Everybody believed it. Possibly Turtle believed it. I did. Of all the many times...that was the
only moment in which I really came close to losing Turtle (Kingsolver 214 5). The near loss of Turtle
readied Taylor to raise her properly. These negative situations triggered

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Biodegradable Plastic
Introduction Since plastic first manufacture since 1960s , plastic bags had become one of the main
essential product in daily life until today. Plastic had become the benchmark for modern life as they
provide durability, strength, flexibility light weight with low cost. They have been used in everywhere,
from bags for groceries to bones holder for surgery. But plastic have become the most concern for
environmentalist as having a long decompose life. Although recycle is an effective way to reduce the
amount of plastic, but researcher found only 5% of plastic bags produced in US alone is being
recycled. (Sivan, 2011). {Sivan, A. New Perspectives in Plastic Biodegradation. Curr. Opin.
Biotechnol. 2011, 22, 422 426. } The best way to prevent plastic to pollute the nature is to produce the
biodegradable plastic. There are many ways to produce a biodegradable plastic, but here we will focus
on producing biodegradable plastic with synthesis of carboxylic acid.

The Ethics Of Genetically Modified Organisms
Science has been a prevalent topic over the course of history. Moreover, as scientific research
continues to develop it sometimes is contradictory towards the humanities. Similarly, the focus on
genetically modified organisms (GMO) have been fundamental in highlighting the difference between
science and the humanities. Consequently, this paper will emphasize the ethics of genetically modified
organisms and the basic ethical concepts and theories necessary for reflecting upon moral beliefs using
scholarly resources that underline that if people are aware of genetically modified organism they will
tend to disregard GMOs.

The Economic Globalization Of India
Economic Globalization has been sweeping across the nation since the end of WWII. Slowly but
surely all the nations across the world have been impacted by Economic Globalization. India for
example has been one of the countries that has been recently hit by the storm and India s economy can
be seen to still be shooting up. In my paper I will be discussing the Economic Globalization of India,
the roots of the globalization to occur, the effects it had and the negative effects it had. Effects such as
foreign trade, economic growth and GDP. From the mid 90 s to current times India is seeing the
effects of globalization, bringing India into one of the top countries in the world in terms of GDP
being ranked at 10th in the world.
The economic globalization in India began in the 90 s with the economic growth being due too
advances in IT and business. One of the major forces of globalization in India has been in the growth
of outsourced IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) services (1). The past few years have seen
more and more educated people due to India s low cost of labor but educated and English speaking
workforce. With economic globalization hitting India in the IT and BPO field it has allowed
companies to expand their operations to India to take advantage of their massive growth opportunity.
The ability for corporations to expand to India has enabled huge corporations to open up markets in
India allowing for great success. Notable examples of international companies

The Rise Of Guerrilla Marketing And Effect On Small Business
The Rise of Guerrilla Marketing and the
Effect on Small Business
Anthony Campbell
Alabama State University
Abstract
Distinguished by an aggressive and non traditional approach to promotion, guerrilla marketing shares
the same goals as traditional advertising product or brand awareness growth but does so in uniquely
personal ways. Small businesses in particular stand to benefit from the opportunity to communicate
with consumers using a diverse set of methods and practices while working within a more restricted
budget. While often hard to directly quantify, guerrilla marketing has a myriad of benefits compared to
more traditional vehicles, particularly as it evolves to encompass online and social trends. The

Jay Conrad Levinson (2007) was the first to directly apply these concepts to the business world with a
method of promotion he publicized in 1984 as guerrilla marketing. Strategists Ries and Trout (1986)
quickly followed with their push to embrace analogies between the marketing and military world, and
subsequently the marketing warfare strategies movement was born.
Bach (2007) described the guerrilla marketing warfare strategy as potentially a major advantage small
companies have over their larger marketplace competition, with the ability to rapidly disseminate low
cost attacks by honing in on particular market niches and reaching them in previously unheard of
ways. He went on to describe unorthodox communication methods that relied on speed and flexibility
not afforded to more established, traditional forms of advertising (Bach, 2007). Prevot (2009)
explained that the reliance on new approaches, such as the element of surprise within consumer s
lives, can be a more successful way of connecting with potential patrons and making an indelible
impression. As companies, particularly small entities, look for ways to position themselves against the
constant tide of print, television and radio ads, the unique and low cost tactics of guerrilla marketing
stand as a way to differentiate themselves and expand their market share in the mind of engaged
consumers.

Critical Analysis On Spanish Horror Films

FEA 460 Spanish Cinema
Final Paper
Critical Analysis on Spanish Horror Films From the late 1960 s to the early 1970 s Spain rose as one
of the leading countries to dominate the horror film genre. Struggling under a brutal and confining
dictatorship for much of the 20th century, the horror genre of Spanish cinema took awhile to come
together. During the difficult and challenging days of General Franco s regime a limited series of
horror films were produced, mainly for the English market. In the later years under Franco, hundreds
of horror films were released. All were identified for their violence, eroticism, and unrestrained
cinematography. Recently, 21st century Spanish horror films, such as The Devil s Backbone and The
Others, tell chilling ghost stories that go beyond horror genre and successfully mix suspense, horror,
and coming of age techniques, during the harsh wartime, using sound, lighting, editing, and innovative
camera work.
After General Franco s regime fell, a new wave of young directors such as Bigas Luna and Pedro
Almodovar basked in their newfound freedom of expression to produce films that were unrestricted
and independent. In the 21st century, a more mature Spanish film industry had returned to the horror
genre in a big way. There have been many box office horror film hits produced outside of Spain with
Spanish talent behind the camera, such as The Others. Spanish horror films had been designed to
appeal to international markets

What´s Neonatal Jaundice
Neonatal jaundice is a common finding in the primary care setting, as almost all newborn infants will
develop an increased level of total serum or plasma bilirubin (TB) presenting as jaundice (Wong
Bhutani, 2013). The identification and treatment of severe neonatal jaundice is necessary to prevent
acute bilirubin encephalopathy and the chronic and permanent complication, kernicterus (American
Academy of Pediatrics [AAP], 2004). The laboratory implications for management of unconjugated
hyperbilirubinemia in term and late term infants ( 35 weeks gestation) after discharge home will now
be discussed. Risk assessment for jaundice should be performed on an infant before discharge from
the hospital, using TB or transcutaneous bilirubin and/or assessment of risk factors. Therefore, if the
TB is plotted on a nomogram prior to discharge, the PNP will have an idea about the infants risk for
developing hyperbilirubinemia at the initial newborn visit and can guide the need for laboratory
evaluation. If this is not available, the PNP should be aware of major risk factors for the development
of hyperbilirubinemia including jaundice present in the first 24 hours of life, blood group
incompatibility, gestational age of 35 36 weeks, sibling history of phototherapy, cephalohematoma or
significant bruising, exclusive breastfeeding, and East Asian race (AAP, 2004).
Recommendations for laboratory evaluation with a TB include every infant who is jaundiced in the
first 24 hours after birth,

The Death Penalty Throughout History
This paper explores how society has influenced the development of the death penalty throughout
history. It begins with a brief explanation of the origins of capital punishment, referencing the first
known documentation of actions punishable by death. The paper goes on to explore different methods
of execution and how they have progressed and changed over the years. Documented cases at different
points of history are referenced to show the relationship of time periods and beliefs to the
implementation of capital punishment. Finally, the development of different laws and changes to
existing laws pertaining to the death penalty are addressed. The History of the Death Penalty
The death penalty has changed drastically throughout history. Some of the first known written laws
regarding the death penalty date back to the eighteenth century BCE ( Part I , 2016). It is likely that
some form of the death penalty existed long before written history, with a basis in customs, not
legalities. The death penalty has continued to evolve throughout history, shaping the modern practices
used in the United States and other parts of the world today. The administration of the death penalty
has been shaped by the moral principles of those in authority and the mindset of the general public at
each stage of history. This is shown through the evolution of different methods of execution,
documented cases during critical points in history, and the laws pertaining to the death penalty at
different

Every kid knows that when growing up he or she is constantly asked what he or she wants to be when
he or she grows up. At a young age it is usually a cowboy, astronaut, princess, or fireman. However, as
kids grow up, they will hopefully find out their true calling. Honore de Balzac describes life without a
fulfilling vocation as a life that drains the color from a man s entire existence. It seems crazy that the
happiness of a human can rely on a single decision made in college. However, if one is lucky enough
to find a vocation that he or she truly enjoys, work becomes an incredibly amazing part of everyday
life. On average, a human, once he reaches adulthood, will work 8 hours a day. Considering that
humans sleep, on average, for 8 hours

Contemplative Importance
The Importance of Contemplative Practices in an Academic Environment (pt. 1)
Contemplative practices can take several forms, including meditation, prayers, and certain physical
exercises such as yoga. Before taking Education in the USA, I had spent very little time participating
in these practices except for the occasional yoga session my former tennis coach would instruct me to
attend. However, these were cases of me superficially participating in that practice. Since participating
in our Wednesday discussions which include a 5 to 10 minute period of meditation, the what s
present/what are we experiencing? exercises, and occasionally, the placement of different objects and
words in the center of the room I have become increasingly aware of the importance of these practices
in relation to both the material we are covering in lectures as well as our individual beings. In my
opinion, the respective purposes of these different contemplative practices have been to cultivate a
sense of mental calmness while taking a break from our busy lives, identify the importance of fully
embracing the present moment, and expose us to different viewpoints and reactions regarding certain
topics, ultimately forcing us to think critically and respond constructively to them. The meditation
portion of our Wednesday discussions allows us to take a step away from the rigorous classwork and
constant worrying about due dates by instead focusing solely on our breathing. Since arriving at

Everyone has heard about the green light at the end of Daisy s dock a symbol of the crude future, the
immeasurable promise of the dream that Gatsby desires despite its tragic end. Another familiar symbol
is that of yellow and gold representing money, the tactless greediness that taints the dream and
eventually leads to its destruction. Such symbols and their purposes, at every stage in the novel, help
provide substance to the main conflict.
The central conflict of F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, is the clash between Gatsby s dream and

If, even for a short span of time, the front side of Gatsby s mansion is lit up and looks like the World s
Fair at two o clock in the morning, the reader might then understand how the house becomes filled
with an incomprehensible amount of dust and why the white steps are tainted by an obscene word,
scrawled by some boy with a piece of brick (Fitzgerald 67). The combination of dream and reality is
both good and bad. As Nick discovers, there is a gray turning, gold turning light in the mansion, and
the challenge for him is to prevent himself from mistaking the lovely appearance for the true state of
things (Fitzgerald 23).
Fitzgerald executes the use of the light dark symbolism well and any color association is not
accidental. For example, when Daisy and Jordan are first introduced, they are dressed in white. It is in
this scene in which most of the color symbolism splayed throughout the novel is introduced. Nick
states:
The only completely stationary object in the room was an enormous couch on which two young
women were buoyed up as though upon an anchored balloon. They were both in white and their
dresses were rippling and fluttering as if they had just been blown back in after a short flight around
the house (Fitzgerald 8).
White symbolizes purity, and Fitzgerald clearly wants to emphasize the ironic difference between the
perceived purity of Daisy and Jordan and their true corruption. But

Corn Vs Corn Essay
America grows a lot of corn. Of all the different grains grown here more than 95% of it is corn. While
corn is grown in most every state, most corn is grown in the Heartland, which is what the middle of
the country is sometimes called. Illinois and Iowa, two states in the Heartland, produce 30% of all
corn in America.
Do you enjoy corn of the cob in the summer time? Most of us do, but do Americans eat all this corn
that they grow? No, we do not eat it all, but we do eat quite a bit of it. Sometimes we eat corn without
realizing it!
Corn on the cob or corn in your dinner are obvious ways to eat corn. There are less obvious ways, too.

Corn can also be made in to cereal, grits, or flour. Grits are kind of like oatmeal, but made with corn.
The corn is dried and ground up. Then, the grits can be mixed with water or milk. Many people enjoy
a bowl of warm grits at breakfast. Flour is made in a similar way to grits but is ground to be very fine,
like regular flour. Americans rely on corn in their diet.
Farmers and other people in agriculture also rely on corn. A lot of corn is used to feed cows and other
animals like pigs and chickens. How much corn that livestock is fed depends on the cost. Farmers may
choose to feed their animals something different if corn costs too much. Or, they may choose to feed
their livestock something different if there is not enough corn for the animals. In some years, not
enough corn is grown to meet all the needs that we have.
Lastly, corn is used to make a fuel. This fuel is called ethanol. In some places ethanol is mixed with

The Political Frame Essay
Buck Morss argues in The Political Frame that those societies claiming to be democratic often operate
with power out of control of the masses. This wild zone is above the law, because it is a function of
the state that makes the law. This relates to Buck Morss next point on the issue of sovereignty and
legitimacy of a state.
According to the nation state societies, the state monopoly on violence is legitimate because it is
operated by legislation. The laws are written by those elected by the people, therefore popular
sovereignty and popular will are the same. However, this fails to explain the violence and is an
unsteady point. The state is both defender and creator of law, and therefore shifts that power towards
itself. According to the class warfare model, the violence is explained by the revolution and the
constant struggle between classes. This, however, does not explain its legitimacy. According to Marx,
the secret exercise of class of interests cannot be the basis of legitimacy. ... Show more content on

A source of legitimacy is the right to wage war because of all that war entails: an enemy and violence,
namely. By defining an enemy, the state brings a collective into being. Buck Morss notes the war
powers rights during times of crises, where the enemy is seen as dangerous enough to develop the
wild zone, that part of democracy removed from the people. Any challenge to the collective status quo

Memoir Of A Geisha Essay
The film that I watched is 《The Memoir of a Geisha》, and it was released in the United States on
December 9, 2005. The director of this film is Rob Marshall, and 2 main characters in the movie are
Sayuri (starring by Ziyi Zhang) and Hatsumomo (Gong Li). Although this film is produced by
American directors, the origin of the story is in Japan. By the year when Chiyo is nine, her father
reluctantly sold her and her sister to a geisha house because of poverty. In that geisha house, she is
forced to do the cleaning every day with no return, until one day she achieves higher hierarchy and is
able to serve the customers. This story happened during the World War II. At first, the victory of

They are the ritualization in Japanese culture, women s implicit expression of love, women s hierarchy
in 18th Japan, and how the landscape of Japan influences the prosperity of Geisha culture. Unlike the
enthusiastic Western women, women grew up in oriental culture often have more restrained and gentle
attitude, and this is one of the most symbolic cultural landscapes in Japan. In the movie, Sayuri chases
for love and all she wants to do is to get closer to the Chairman. In fact, before the end of the story,
she only sees chairman a few times in all, but she has strong faith to be with him. It could even be said
that her whole life started from the few minutes of their encounters on the bridge. This is the typical
oriental love, implicit but deeply passionate. Another cultural issue that is mentioned in the film is
ritualization. In the film, the Colonel is impressed by the importance of rituals in Japan. This
ritualization is shown completely in this film. For example, In the other places, it is rare to see clients
and geisha bowing to each other before the intercourse, but this is a norm in Japan. So it could be said
one significant factor in Japanese culture is idealization, and Geisha is a component of this fantasy.
They are pulled out from themselves as women and then become an illusory form. When Sayuri wears
the twelve layers of elegant kimonos with exquisite makeup, stepped on those expensive black

Effect Of Observation On The Language Development Of Home...
The setting that I choose for observation #1 is a home child care. The children vary in their ages from
six weeks up to four years. There are one baby, four infants and three preschoolers. In this
observation, I will describe the language development of child A and child B that are in the infant
room. Afterward, I will describe the interactions strategies that the teacher uses when sharing the

In this room the toys were ordered in a basket and by category. The teacher let the infants know that is

Wolfshim In The Great Gatsby
Going extinct are the days spent loosing yourself in the excitement and adventure of a classic novel,
As far as classic novels go, however, none are more revered for their use of articulate language and
lavish mental imagery than F Scott Fitzgeralds 1925 novel The Great Gatsby. Often considered one of
the most well know and well read books of the twentieth century, partly due to its common use in
school classrooms around the world, The Great Gatsby has been awarded numerous prestigious
accolades with one being named in homage to it. As a result it is no surprise that it has been the

However keeping in mind any film must withhold a reasonable play time as not to grow dull and
dreary. This caused baz luhrmann to cut out, or shorten, specific scenes from the novel when carrying
it over into film. One such scene was where mr Gatsby introduced nick to one of his friends and
mentor Meyer Wolfshiem. Gatsby described Wolfshiem as a gambler who fixed the World Series.
Wolfshiem appears only twice in the novel with the second time being him refusing to attend Gatsby s
funeral. This first appearance however is very important in the novel as in it Wolfshiem gives a critical

his acquaintance just after the war. But I knew I had discovered a man of fine breeding ..... the kind of

The Issue Of Capital Punishment Essay
Today, one of the most debated issues in the Criminal Justice System is the issue of capital punishment
or the death penalty. Having said that, crime is imminent. We could have an unexpected encounter
with a criminal committing crime on a daily. Criminals have become a part of our daily lives. Does
this mean we should let them prevail in our society? No, absolutely not. Eliminating crime and
criminals is our duty, and we must not ignore it. Getting the rightly accused to a just punishment is
very important. Some criminals commit a crime because they have no other option to survive, but
some do it for fun. I do not advocate death penalty for everybody. A person, who stole a piece of
clothing from a department store, definitely does not deserve the death penalty. However, a serial
killer, who kills people just because or for malicious reasons, definitely deserves the death penalty.
The death penalty should continue, in order to eliminate the garbage out of our society. Not everybody
deserves to die, but some people definitely do. I support the death penalty for several reasons.
Primarily, I believe that the death penalty serves as a deterrent and assists with reducing crime.
Moreover, the death penalty assures safety to our society by eliminating these criminals.
As stated in our text, deterrence is a sentencing goal or a crime prevention strategy that seeks to inhibit
criminal behavior in either the offender (specific deterrence) or in the others (general deterrence by

What I Was At An Ethics Unit

II STRUCTURE OF REFLECTION
For my reflection I will be outlining the main practical skills that I have gained from this unit whether
it be from the weekly readings, tutorial exercises and/or online modules and material. The practical
skills gained consist of intellectual, performative and affective skills all of which are essential for
practicing lawyers, however for the purpose of this reflection primary focus will be placed upon

Film And American Culture Essay
The relationship between film and the American culture is one, which is highly complicated and
dynamic. Movie director in Hollywood are constantly influenced by world events to create movies,
which entertain, and at times shed light on certain events. Film is also an integral part of our culture
because it provides a medium, which can reflect our public s concerns, attitudes, and beliefs. This
report will briefly discuss the interplay between film and the American culture, which is represented in
said film.
During the late 1940 s and into the 1950 s, film reflected the conservatism, which dominated the
sociopolitical arenas of the time. America was at war with the axis powers in Germany, Italy and
Japan. War films during this era depicted a we versus them attitude. These films simply involved an
antagonist and a hero. Until the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, American films generally reflected,
the neutral, isolationist stance that prevailed in politics and culture (Lordbucket.org, 2012) Films like
Casablanca which was directed by Michael Curtiz, painted an image of ill effects of fascism. It also

Magnet Schools Case Study
Public schools need to be competitive and imaginative when marketing their campuses so they are
viewed by the community as safe and with stronger academic programs. It is imperative to improve
the quality of teaching and learning in schools because people like to be part of a successful system.
The push to market traditional districts and regular schools is stronger than it s been before, said Rich
Bagin, the executive director of the National School Public Relations Association in Rockville, Md.
We have principals coming to us and saying we have a great school here, but everybody seems to be

schools are schools of choice and students are enrolled based on their interest. Funding for magnet

What Does A Prayer For Owen Meany
Undoubtedly one of the most popular stories of the 21st century was Harry Potter, a series in which
readers follow the life of a twelve year old boy who learns that he is magical. Throughout the novels
aspects of magic are blended into the real world, portrayed by the setting Great Britain, which
contains a large proportion of non magical people, referred to as muggles. The way the author, J.K
Rowling, set the book up and blended these two aspects, magic and realism, is analogous to the way
John Irving wrote a Prayer for Owen Meany through the genre of magical realism. Furthermore, the
use of this genre allowed for the development of John Irving s main message. By setting the story in
the realistic town of Gravesend, New Hampshire, and incorporating the exceptional religious character
of Owen Meany, the author sets the scene to impart his thoughts upon readers. John Irving s main
message in a Prayer for Owen Meany is that not all people view the world using science and logical
reason. A realistic element of the story is that John and Owen were raised in the small town of
Gravesend, New Hampshire. To a reader who doesn t know that this town is in fact factitious, the
town might seem very realistic. Seeing as the town is comprised similarly to many towns during the
time period that Owen was set in, it would not be improbable that an unknowing reader might be lead
to believe that the setting of this story is a real town. In fact the town even has multiple churches such

Flavian Amphitheatre Essay
In this paper, I will argue that the Flavian Amphitheatre is the most aesthetically pleasing Roman
Monument created during the period of 80 96 CE. To Prove this claim, I will use research founded by
various sources to illustrate just how beautiful the colosseum was.
The Colosseum also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre is one of the biggest achievements of the
Roman age. The construction of this huge Amphitheatre was started by Vespasian in 72 AD. It was
finished by his son, Titus, in 80 AD. The Colosseum was built in the Centre of the city of Rome, Italy.
Measuring in at 190 by 155 meters, the Colosseum was the largest amphitheater in the Roman world.
Unlike many earlier amphitheaters, which were dug into hillsides to provide support. The Colosseum

Jean-Jacques Rousseau s Film Triumph Of The Will
In this day, an age that we call the 21st century, as of 2015 it is recorded that more than 150 million
people are playing video games around the country. Video creators are just like movie directors they
must get the plot for their story from somewhere. During the semester, we have examined many
directors around different culture and study their nation state. Which is the point that they want to
come across in their movie. For example, Jean Jacques Rousseau describes the concept of family as
the first society. The real reason you re here is to read about Leni Riefenstahl nation state of the way
the Nazi overtly uses cinematic spectacle for propagandistic purposes. My claim is that her nation

that technology has made an impact on Leni Riefenstahl nation state of Triumph of the Will through
the invention of a video game series called Call of Duty. Is because the use of color, the film was
made back in 1935 so its low resolution, dark lighting, it s grainy and kind of hard to focus sometimes

comes to graphics due to the console that you play them on. It s fully in color, its high resolution that
sits at 1080p currently, its rumor that the next game in the series will be able to adapt to being played
on a 4k television. The colors in the zombie mode that they take it back to the 1935 element to where

Social Media Has Become An Essential Part Of Our Lives
In today s society social media has become an essential part of our lives. We check our accounts every
chance we get regardless of where we are at. Everyone is a victim of social media as it is not only part
of the American culture but is also seen worldwide. One big component that makes social media into
the giant it is today are viral videos. New viral videos often come up on a daily basis especially on
platforms such as twitter in which they cover a range of topics such as a funny target ad to a kid on the
streets of New York with an amazing ability of creating a beat with a couple of old pots and pans and a
pair of drumsticks. There are a countless amount of great videos that have come from going viral, but
there are also those that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In today s society this media becomes viral at its full effect on social media platforms, most
specifically twitter and facebook as with one post or retweet can cause a chain reaction to even further
distribute the content to expand the audience. Virality is often achieved due to its power to evoke
emotions in a visceral way as well as tell us whole stories in a fraction of the time reading text would
take. ( The Social Media Wildfire. ) The concept of viral media is not subjected to only a certain group
of people but is rather extended to others even if they are not on social media as in many cases videos
that have made it onto international news channels. What makes viral videos viral does not exclude
anyone but is rather meant for a large audience due to it being known for breaking down cultural
barriers by allowing people all over the world to witness significant or interesting events for
themselves. ( The Social Media Wildfire,. 2015) With this viral media revolution, many people see it
as a chance to change their lives, socially, but viral fame is most notably connected to a new financials
status as well. By seeing other people go viral it would start this belief that by going viral, you have
made it, which creates this sense of achievement in regards to their social life. There have been plenty
of good and bad examples of this but one that stands

Texas has a few ways to offer services for poor citizens. The state uses federal poverty guidelines to

Political Proposition 2 Case Study

many interesting initiatives on the ballot, there is one initiative in particular that could benefit from
your support, as you can from it. Proposition 2 is a bill supported by not only the Democratic and
Republican caucuses, but also by countless organizations and newspapers, including the Howard
Jarvis Taxpayer Association, California Chamber of Commerce, La Opinion, Long Beach Press

The passage of Prop 140 in 1990 had unintended consequences for the legislator. Not only did Prop
140 implement term limits to increase turnover in the legislation, but it also reduced funding. The
reduction in funding led to the closure of bi partisan resources, such as the Assembly Office of
Research. The combination of legislators with less experience due to the term limits, and lack of
resources as result of the budget cuts, has dramatically weakened the effectivity of the legislator.
Consequently, the vacuum created by prop 140 has been filled by lobbyist and the Governor. Recent
studies illustrate a significant drop in declines made by the legislator to the Governor s budget since
the implementation of term limits (Kousser). Although Proposition 2 does not directly fix the
unintended consequences of Prop 140, it mitigates some of the negative effects, bringing more balance
between the two branches. Due to the shortcomings of Proposition 58, the governor has much
discretion in handling California debt, whereas Prop 2 calls for a mandatory 1.5% of the budget.
Additionally, Proposition 2 mandates that scheduled fund transfers can only be repealed if the
Governor calls a state of emergency and gains approval of the legislator. Requiring approval of the
legislators not only empowers legislators attempting to cope the debt crisis, but also prevents a

The Judgement Seat, By Oprah Winfrey
In Italy the statement arose that made many people step back and take a look at their lives. This
statement changed how people today look at the others around them and that statement was, those who
live in glass houses shouldn t throw stones. This means if a person isn t perfect then they shouldn t
treat others like they should be. Our society today knows what it means to judge or to be judged and
that is why people are all living either in complete support of not judging people by their past or
choices and those who live judging others for their mistakes. It is important to live by, not throwing
stones when living in a glass house which can be shown through Judge Judy, Oprah Winfrey, The
Judgement Seat and the presidential debate

In The Judgement Seat Scaramastro shows us what it feels like when you ve been judged without the
other person knowing the situation. Scaramastro states I stood far from the judgement seat, Head
bowed in bitter shame within my head words echoed loud, for I d myself to blame. (Scaramastro).
This shows when you re judged that the words get stuck on repeat in your head and hurt you. When
someone is put into that situation Scaramastro gives you the picture of the affect left after a stone has
been thrown. Scaramastro says the following statement to give the visual of the power of words. The
poem says yet you had time for menial task, and time to exercise your mental powers on common
things your home to supervise. This statement means that once in silence you think about and evaluate
every word that s been said. Everyone has issues but no one knows the depth of someone else s. This
poem is displaying a person who has been torn down for their imperfections. Scaramastro says those
words which burned within my brain, verdict of guilty crime: no place, no hope, no righteous crown:
For you I have no time. (Scaramastro) When Scaramastro writes this he shows the issues people
struggle with are real and they tear people apart. When these things

Enabling Law In Nazi Germany
Fourthly, Enabling law was key to maintain the Nazism in power without any dispute and therefore no
opposition of the parliament. At the March elections the Nazi party was the largest single political
party. After suspending the Communists, and using his storm troopers (the SA) to intimidate members
of the other parties, Hitler had the two thirds majority in the parliament he needed to suspend the
country s constitution. This was essential since Hitler now had the power to issue new laws without
consulting parliament. Hitler made the Nazis the only legal political organization in the country. The
other parties were banned or dissolved themselves. No one could now challenge the Nazis legally,
which made opposition very dangerous. Opponents

Township School in Crawford County. Few residents remember its consolidating to a single school

The well water was the nastiest water a person could drink, but it tasted pretty good if that person was
thirsty enough (Anthony Darius).
Johnson Township held all kinds of kids in one room even though they had different ages and grades.
The classroom accommodated kids from first to eighth grade. A preacher worked in the school and the
kids actually had bible study once a day. Two teachers taught all the kids for each subject. (List)
Instead of the children switching classes, the teachers had to move rooms. The kids ages ranged from
8 to 16. It did not even matter what their age, they could be in any grade. An example of this, a student
listed as a fifth grader could be fifteen years old. School had four sixteen year olds in the seventh
grade. (List)
Adrian Cumings, one of the teachers, remembered as nice. She sold kids candy bars for one cent

and practised different theories in their work. I am also going to be exploring different cultural
concepts from the work and how they relate to society. The director of Vincent Dance Theatre is
Charlotte Vincent, the founded the company in 1994 and has continued to create such interesting and
powerful work which involves a very wide range of different concepts and cultural meanings.
Charlotte Vincent is a very creative practitioner and is highly influenced by the experiences and her

creating her engaging and powerful work.
Charlotte Vincent is one of the UK s leading female choreographer/directors (The Observer). VDT is

One of the many works of Vincent Dance Theatre is a piece called Motherland , this piece explores
gender very deeply and everything that a women/man/boy or girl may face for example, motherhood,
pregnancy, periods and more. It is about the gender people are born into and what they may face in
their journey of life. Another concept of this performance is feminism, the characters show a clear
vision of this cultural concept that society is effected by.

Phototropism can affect plant growth because the definition of phototropism is the growth movement
of a plant induced by a light stimulus. This causes the plant to face the direction of the light stimulus,
if the plant is illuminated on one side. However, if the plant grows in dark room or where there is
uniform light, it will cause the plant to grow straight upwards. Gravitropism will affect the plant s
roots. If you change the position of the roots, the roots will start growing in the direction.
Thigmotropism which is the directional growth in response to touch. For my experiment, I focused on
phototropism. 2) What are the effects of amount of sunlight, type of fertilizer or compost on plant
growth? The effects of the amount of sunlight on my plant caused one of my pots to grow slower 3)
What factors affect seed germination? Some factors that affect seed germination are temperature, light
and moisture. Most seeds tend to germinate quicker with the presence of water. In my experiment, Pot
B did not germinate at the same time as Pot A. This was most likely because Pot B was exposed to
more sunlight causing the water to evaporate and leaving the seeds with little

  • 2. Symbolism In The Bean Trees Human nature is the psychological similarities and thought processes of humans. Key examples of this in The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver are social groups, the desire of freedom, and self growth. Conversation and symbolism in the setting illustrate these instincts. Humans instinctively separate into groups resembling themselves. In our school there were different groups you would run with, depending on your station in life... The poor kids... We were called Nutters... The most important rule was that there was no mixing. Do you understand what I mean? ... Yes, he said. In India they have something called the caste system. Members of different castes cannot marry or even eat together. The lowest caste is called the Untouchables. (Kingsolver, 133). Despite living distant childhoods, both Estevan and Taylor understood social division and its rules of disconnecting from other circles. Freedom is another human instinct displayed by Kingsolver. He told me that the national symbol of Guatemala was the quetzal, a beautiful green bird... I had seen military macaws at the zoo, and wondered if the quetzal was anything like those. He said no. Maybe someday we will have more children, but not now. Now is so hard. We move around so much, we have nothing, no home. Esperanza was sobbing. This was no act... Here were a mother and her daughter, nothing less... who were going to be taken apart. Everybody believed it. Possibly Turtle believed it. I did. Slowly but surely all the nations across the world have been impacted by Economic Globalization. India for example has been one of the countries that has been recently hit by the storm and India s economy can be seen to still be shooting up. In my paper I will be discussing the Economic Globalization of India, the roots of the globalization to occur, the effects it had and the negative effects it had. Effects such as foreign trade, economic growth and GDP. From the mid 90 s to current times India is seeing the effects of globalization, bringing India into one of the top countries in the world in terms of GDP being ranked at 10th in the world. The economic globalization in India began in the 90 s with the economic growth being due too advances in IT and business. One of the major forces of globalization in India has been in the growth of outsourced IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) services (1). The past few years have seen more and more educated people due to India s low cost of labor but educated and English speaking workforce. With economic globalization hitting India in the IT and BPO field it has allowed companies to expand their operations to India to take advantage of their massive growth opportunity. The Rise Of Guerrilla Marketing And Effect On Small Business The Rise of Guerrilla Marketing and the Effect on Small Business Anthony Campbell Alabama State University Abstract Distinguished by an aggressive and non traditional approach to promotion, guerrilla marketing shares the same goals as traditional advertising product or brand awareness growth but does so in uniquely personal ways. Small businesses in particular stand to benefit from the opportunity to communicate with consumers using a diverse set of methods and practices while working within a more restricted budget. While often hard to directly quantify, guerrilla marketing has a myriad of benefits compared to more traditional vehicles, particularly as it evolves to encompass online and social trends. Jay Conrad Levinson (2007) was the first to directly apply these concepts to the business world with a method of promotion he publicized in 1984 as guerrilla marketing. Strategists Ries and Trout (1986) quickly followed with their push to embrace analogies between the marketing and military world, and subsequently the marketing warfare strategies movement was born. Bach (2007) described the guerrilla marketing warfare strategy as potentially a major advantage small companies have over their larger marketplace competition, with the ability to rapidly disseminate low cost attacks by honing in on particular market niches and reaching them in previously unheard of ways. He went on to describe unorthodox communication methods that relied on speed and flexibility not afforded to more established, traditional forms of advertising (Bach, 2007). Prevot (2009) explained that the reliance on new approaches, such as the element of surprise within consumer s lives, can be a more successful way of connecting with potential patrons and making an indelible impression. As companies, particularly small entities, look for ways to position themselves against the constant tide of print, television and radio ads, the unique and low cost tactics of guerrilla marketing stand as a way to differentiate themselves and expand their market share in the mind of engaged consumers. • 9. Critical Analysis On Spanish Horror Films Shannon Stone 12 11 14 FEA 460 Spanish Cinema Final Paper Critical Analysis on Spanish Horror Films From the late 1960 s to the early 1970 s Spain rose as one of the leading countries to dominate the horror film genre. Struggling under a brutal and confining dictatorship for much of the 20th century, the horror genre of Spanish cinema took awhile to come together. During the difficult and challenging days of General Franco s regime a limited series of horror films were produced, mainly for the English market. In the later years under Franco, hundreds of horror films were released. All were identified for their violence, eroticism, and unrestrained cinematography. Recently, 21st century Spanish horror films, such as The Devil s Backbone and The Others, tell chilling ghost stories that go beyond horror genre and successfully mix suspense, horror, and coming of age techniques, during the harsh wartime, using sound, lighting, editing, and innovative camera work. After General Franco s regime fell, a new wave of young directors such as Bigas Luna and Pedro Almodovar basked in their newfound freedom of expression to produce films that were unrestricted and independent. In the 21st century, a more mature Spanish film industry had returned to the horror genre in a big way. There have been many box office horror film hits produced outside of Spain with Spanish talent behind the camera, such as The Others. Spanish horror films had been designed to appeal to international markets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. What´s Neonatal Jaundice Neonatal jaundice is a common finding in the primary care setting, as almost all newborn infants will develop an increased level of total serum or plasma bilirubin (TB) presenting as jaundice (Wong Bhutani, 2013). The identification and treatment of severe neonatal jaundice is necessary to prevent acute bilirubin encephalopathy and the chronic and permanent complication, kernicterus (American Academy of Pediatrics [AAP], 2004). The laboratory implications for management of unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia in term and late term infants ( 35 weeks gestation) after discharge home will now be discussed. Risk assessment for jaundice should be performed on an infant before discharge from the hospital, using TB or transcutaneous bilirubin and/or assessment of risk factors. Therefore, if the TB is plotted on a nomogram prior to discharge, the PNP will have an idea about the infants risk for developing hyperbilirubinemia at the initial newborn visit and can guide the need for laboratory evaluation. If this is not available, the PNP should be aware of major risk factors for the development of hyperbilirubinemia including jaundice present in the first 24 hours of life, blood group incompatibility, gestational age of 35 36 weeks, sibling history of phototherapy, cephalohematoma or significant bruising, exclusive breastfeeding, and East Asian race (AAP, 2004). • 11. The Death Penalty Throughout History This paper explores how society has influenced the development of the death penalty throughout history. It begins with a brief explanation of the origins of capital punishment, referencing the first known documentation of actions punishable by death. The paper goes on to explore different methods of execution and how they have progressed and changed over the years. Documented cases at different points of history are referenced to show the relationship of time periods and beliefs to the implementation of capital punishment. Finally, the development of different laws and changes to existing laws pertaining to the death penalty are addressed. The History of the Death Penalty The death penalty has changed drastically throughout history. Some of the first known written laws regarding the death penalty date back to the eighteenth century BCE ( Part I , 2016). It is likely that some form of the death penalty existed long before written history, with a basis in customs, not legalities. The death penalty has continued to evolve throughout history, shaping the modern practices used in the United States and other parts of the world today. The administration of the death penalty has been shaped by the moral principles of those in authority and the mindset of the general public at each stage of history. This is shown through the evolution of different methods of execution, documented cases during critical points in history, and the laws pertaining to the death penalty at different ... At a young age it is usually a cowboy, astronaut, princess, or fireman. However, as kids grow up, they will hopefully find out their true calling. Honore de Balzac describes life without a fulfilling vocation as a life that drains the color from a man s entire existence. It seems crazy that the happiness of a human can rely on a single decision made in college. Contemplative Importance The Importance of Contemplative Practices in an Academic Environment (pt. 1) Contemplative practices can take several forms, including meditation, prayers, and certain physical exercises such as yoga. Before taking Education in the USA, I had spent very little time participating in these practices except for the occasional yoga session my former tennis coach would instruct me to attend. However, these were cases of me superficially participating in that practice. Since participating in our Wednesday discussions which include a 5 to 10 minute period of meditation, the what s present/what are we experiencing? exercises, and occasionally, the placement of different objects and words in the center of the room I have become increasingly aware of the importance of these practices in relation to both the material we are covering in lectures as well as our individual beings. In my opinion, the respective purposes of these different contemplative practices have been to cultivate a sense of mental calmness while taking a break from our busy lives, identify the importance of fully embracing the present moment, and expose us to different viewpoints and reactions regarding certain topics, ultimately forcing us to think critically and respond constructively to them. The meditation portion of our Wednesday discussions allows us to take a step away from the rigorous classwork and constant worrying about due dates by instead focusing solely on our breathing. Star Wars is a science fiction universe, created by the minds of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, which has been taking the world by loved since the 70 s. With its only main competitor being Star Trek, Star Wars has becoming ever more popular ever since its first red carpet premiere in 1977. There are six known movies, 2 different cartoon television series, countless merchandise sold, and much more. Recently Disney spent $4 billion for the ownership rights of the franchise. Everyone has heard about the green light at the end of Daisy s dock a symbol of the crude future, the immeasurable promise of the dream that Gatsby desires despite its tragic end. Another familiar symbol is that of yellow and gold representing money, the tactless greediness that taints the dream and eventually leads to its destruction. Such symbols and their purposes, at every stage in the novel, help provide substance to the main conflict. The central conflict of F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, is the clash between Gatsby s dream and the unpleasant, real world reality the foul dust [that] floats in the wake of his dreams (Fitzgerald 2). If, even for a short span of time, the front side of Gatsby s mansion is lit up and looks like the World s Fair at two o clock in the morning, the reader might then understand how the house becomes filled with an incomprehensible amount of dust and why the white steps are tainted by an obscene word, scrawled by some boy with a piece of brick (Fitzgerald 67). The combination of dream and reality is both good and bad. As Nick discovers, there is a gray turning, gold turning light in the mansion, and the challenge for him is to prevent himself from mistaking the lovely appearance for the true state of things (Fitzgerald 23). Fitzgerald executes the use of the light dark symbolism well and any color association is not accidental. For example, when Daisy and Jordan are first introduced, they are dressed in white. It is in this scene in which most of the color symbolism splayed throughout the novel is introduced. Nick states: The only completely stationary object in the room was an enormous couch on which two young women were buoyed up as though upon an anchored balloon. They were both in white and their dresses were rippling and fluttering as if they had just been blown back in after a short flight around the house (Fitzgerald 8). • 20. The Political Frame Essay Buck Morss argues in The Political Frame that those societies claiming to be democratic often operate with power out of control of the masses. This wild zone is above the law, because it is a function of the state that makes the law. This relates to Buck Morss next point on the issue of sovereignty and legitimacy of a state. According to the nation state societies, the state monopoly on violence is legitimate because it is operated by legislation. The laws are written by those elected by the people, therefore popular sovereignty and popular will are the same. However, this fails to explain the violence and is an unsteady point. The state is both defender and creator of law, and therefore shifts that power towards itself. According to the class warfare model, the violence is explained by the revolution and the constant struggle between classes. This, however, does not explain its legitimacy. Having said that, crime is imminent. We could have an unexpected encounter with a criminal committing crime on a daily. Criminals have become a part of our daily lives. Does this mean we should let them prevail in our society? No, absolutely not. Eliminating crime and criminals is our duty, and we must not ignore it. Getting the rightly accused to a just punishment is very important. Some criminals commit a crime because they have no other option to survive, but some do it for fun. I do not advocate death penalty for everybody. A person, who stole a piece of clothing from a department store, definitely does not deserve the death penalty. However, a serial killer, who kills people just because or for malicious reasons, definitely deserves the death penalty. The death penalty should continue, in order to eliminate the garbage out of our society. Not everybody deserves to die, but some people definitely do. I support the death penalty for several reasons. Primarily, I believe that the death penalty serves as a deterrent and assists with reducing crime. Moreover, the death penalty assures safety to our society by eliminating these criminals. As stated in our text, deterrence is a sentencing goal or a crime prevention strategy that seeks to inhibit criminal behavior in either the offender (specific deterrence) or in the others (general deterrence by using ... What Does A Prayer For Owen Meany Undoubtedly one of the most popular stories of the 21st century was Harry Potter, a series in which readers follow the life of a twelve year old boy who learns that he is magical. Throughout the novels aspects of magic are blended into the real world, portrayed by the setting Great Britain, which contains a large proportion of non magical people, referred to as muggles. The way the author, J.K Rowling, set the book up and blended these two aspects, magic and realism, is analogous to the way John Irving wrote a Prayer for Owen Meany through the genre of magical realism. Furthermore, the use of this genre allowed for the development of John Irving s main message. By setting the story in the realistic town of Gravesend, New Hampshire, and incorporating the exceptional religious character of Owen Meany, the author sets the scene to impart his thoughts upon readers. To Prove this claim, I will use research founded by various sources to illustrate just how beautiful the colosseum was. The Colosseum also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre is one of the biggest achievements of the Roman age. The construction of this huge Amphitheatre was started by Vespasian in 72 AD. Not only did Prop 140 implement term limits to increase turnover in the legislation, but it also reduced funding. The reduction in funding led to the closure of bi partisan resources, such as the Assembly Office of Research. The combination of legislators with less experience due to the term limits, and lack of resources as result of the budget cuts, has dramatically weakened the effectivity of the legislator. Consequently, the vacuum created by prop 140 has been filled by lobbyist and the Governor. Recent studies illustrate a significant drop in declines made by the legislator to the Governor s budget since the implementation of term limits (Kousser). Although Proposition 2 does not directly fix the unintended consequences of Prop 140, it mitigates some of the negative effects, bringing more balance between the two branches. Due to the shortcomings of Proposition 58, the governor has much discretion in handling California debt, whereas Prop 2 calls for a mandatory 1.5% of the budget.
