Analysis Of The Book Carver Essay
Every story you read has an author behind it now how you interpret that s up to you, but some
authors have a completely different interpretation of their writing. Some authors hide deep
meaning behind their writings that can be difficult to catch. Authors will use symbolism to tell a
different story. A period of their life could affect the way they write and you can see that as a
reader if you pick apart the story. Raymond Carveris a great example on how a period in his life
affected his writing. Carver was going down a dark path which readers can see the affects of this
period in his life in his writing style. It took Carver some time to find his sense of hope again,
and when he did so did his writing. Carver was known to be a great writer even according to
Stephen King, Carver was considered to be one of the most influential writing in the 20th
century (King). Also, know for being one of the most important contributors to literature. In his
short stories Carver chronicled the everyday lives and problems of the working poor in the
Pacific Northwest. His blue collar characters are crushed by broken marriages, financial
problems, and failed careers. This short stories mirrored Carver s own life. Carver s stripped
down, minimalist prose style is remarkable for its honesty and power. He is credited with helping
revitalize the genre of the English language short storyin the late 20th century.Carver dealt with a

Difference Between Monopolistic Competition And Oligopoly
The determination of prices of commodities depends upon the type of market structure in which
they are produced. There are various markets prevailing in an economy like (a) perfect competition,
(b)Monopoly,(c) Monopolistic Competition, and (d) Oligopoly. Monopoly, monopolistic
competition and oligopoly are generally grouped under imperfect competition, since these three
markets differ in respect to the degree of imperfections in the market.
Before explaining all these markets in detail, it will be quite important to understand the meaning of
the term market in economics.
1.2 Meaning of Market
Market in general means a particular place or locality where goods are sold and purchased.
However, in economics, by the term market we do not mean any particular place or locality in
which goods are bought or sold. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Large number of buyers and sellers: The first important feature of monopolistic competition is that
under it there are relatively large numbers of buyers each satisfying a small share of the market
demand for product. The number of buyers in monopolistic competition is also large. Because there
is large number of firms under monopolistic competition, there exists stiff competition between
them.
2. Product Differentiation: The second important feature of Monopolistic Competition is that
products produced by various firms are differentiated. This means that the products of various firms
under monopolistic competition are not same but similar. Therefore there prices cannot be very
much different. Because of similar products and close substitutes the firms under monopolistic
competition compete with each other.
3. Selling Costs: In monopolistic competition the products are close substitutes of one another, In
order to differentiate their products firms incurs selling cost Selling costs refer to the expenditure

Tetralogy Of Fallot Case Study
Tetralogy of Fallot
Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is a congenital heart defect. A congenital heart defect is an abnormality of
the person heart that is developed while the fetus is in utero. The abnormality does change the
normal direction of the hearts blood flow. TOF affects four different formations within the heart.
The person that is born with TOF defect has it the rest of their life, although parts of the heart
defect are repaired.
Natural history
TOF is a rare but very complex heart defect. This heart defect affects about 5 out of every 10,000
babies. TOF affects boys and girls equally. The four abnormalities include a large ventricular septal
defect (also known as a VSD), pulmonary stenosis, right ventricular hypertrophy, and an overriding

Parents of the infant with TOF usually have normal hearts and have no genetic predisposition for
this defect. Heredity may cause some cases especially the mothers and fathers that have TOF are
possibly more prone to have children with TOF. Infants that have other genetic disorders like Down
syndrome and DiGeorge syndrome often can have defects like TOF.
Causative and/or Susceptibility Genes
Doctors often do not know what causes TOF. Factors and conditions that can happen during
pregnancy increase your risk of having a child with TOF would be German measles (rubella) and
other viral illness, poor nutrition, alcohol use, age (being over 40), diabetes (Explore Tetralogy of
Fallot, 2011). TOF has been linked to mutations in known heart related genes, although these
mutations consistently do not cause TOF. 11 segments of DNA found in the patients with TOF in
which too many or too few copies present. Genetic changes, known as copy number variations can
usually alter gene dosage, changing how much the protein is made by the cell.
Gene
One example is a gene called RAF1, which influences the growth, movement, and survival of
cells. Excess copies of RAF increase the risk of TOF nine fold. Just changing the dose of that one
gene causes tetralogy of Fallot, Seidman says (Seidman, 2009). RAF1 is overlapping duplications

The Family Dynamics And Management Of Industrias La Vega
There have been issues regarding the family dynamics and management of Industrias La Vega that
have been brought to my attention. Some of the issues that were brought to my attention have been
addressed, which is commendable, but will still be discussed. However, the recommendations are
still being made in order to continually improve the family dynamics within the business. The
recommendations that are being made should only be implemented if it is the best course of action
for your family with regards to the business.
The first issue that occurs within the family dynamics regarding the business is lack of
transparency. Lack of transparency occurs when family members do not share knowledge about the
business with each other. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, as a long term solution, the rights of shareholders and responsibilities of the manager to
shareholders should be put in writing in the form of policies and procedures. It might also be in
the best interest of the business to create policies regarding dividend payments and liquidity
because this appeared to be an issue also.
The second issue that is occurring within the family is a combination of an established entitlement
culture and the erosion of the entrepreneurial culture. These issues arise when family members have
an unsustainable culture of consumption and are using the business as an ATM. This is entitlement
culture was established when Francisco Sr. would grant every request for money, new houses, and
trips. The entitlement culture continued when Francisco Jr. became CEO and began using
company funds to purchase a luxury car, helicopter and a boat that were essential to his executive
post. The recommendation for immediate action is to stop the granting of requests for family
members, if it has not already. Also it is recommended that Francisco Jr. be directed to stop
purchasing luxuries with company funds for his personal use. Long term recommendations to solve
these issues include writing a family constitution that includes a guide to the family s relationship to
wealth and the business. Another recommendation would be to create policies that describe a
process for purchases using company funds, and what entities the funds can be used to purchase.

6-Year-Learning About Baseball Research Paper
When I started learning about baseball. I started studying the game the most in second grade
during the winter because, well, I wasn t outside practicing. It was simply too cold and it
saddened me that I simply couldn t play the game due to the weather outside. So I got online and
went to MLB.com and I started from the 1960 s the end of the baseballgolden age. Which
happened to be the end of the career of my favorite baseball player of all time (Stan Musial).
Which is why I started there. It seemed like the perfect starting point. From then on I moved
backward until I got to 1919 learned about the Chicago Black Sox. This was a 6 year learning
experience.

Jim Hawkins Character Traits
Jim Hawkins Character Analysis
Different forces and change shape and change the Jim Hawkins in Robert Louis Stevenson s
classic novel, Treasure Island. The forces and change do the important job of helping the character
evolve and develop. Jim is changed by forces such as death, discovery, and meeting others, which
all play a major part in his change.
All three of forces that caused Jim to change happened frequently throughout the novel. Death
changed him because, if it was his own teammate who died, he would become bolder and
eventually stand up for them to make sure there death was not pointless. Jim may have felt weak
when they died, but he later realized that he should take action. Robert Louis Stevenson stated,
Hunter lay beside his loophole, stunned; Joyce by his, shot through the head, never to move
again. If it was a death of someone against him, he would feel brave and courageous because he
had a better chance of surviving. When Jim killed Israel Hands on page 141, he definitely gave

This created the opportunity for Long John to become greedy and want to take the treasure for
his group of mutineers. Robert Louis Stevenson said, on page 182, I beheld great heaps of coin
and quadrilaterals built of bars of gold. This was the denouement of the story when Jim was

Introduction
The fiscal policies refer to the way in which the government affects those activities in the economy
of a country. The major common fiscal policies that occur in the economy are the government
expenditure and the level of taxation and they are usually advocated by the Central Bank of the
country. The fiscal policies are a strategy that relates to the monetary policies that are used by the
central bank of a country to control level of money supply in the country. The fiscal policies have a

The budget will also be adversely affected. The net loss in the budget would be about 2.5% of the
country s GDP representation $4.5 trillion. There are the figures that could have developed with the
implementation of the tax policy in the country. The adverse effects of the tax policy has forced the
federal government of the United States of America to shift to the alternative minimum taxation as it
is stipulated in the Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 law. This was more lenient as it had much
negative effects on the operation of the country. Even though the revenues and the budgets are
affected, the effect of the alternative taxation was no such much adverse. The alternative taxation
served the real need in the society. The tax policy regardless of being permanent or not; it will have
an influence on the government operations. The tax cut will have a lot of influence on the
government as there will be significant deficits in the next 10 years. Long term budget plan in the
country will also be affected in the country therefore the government has to take measures to ensure
that the tax cut does not affect the economy.
The tax policy that have been implemented need to be financed in order to ensure stability in the
country. It is evident if the tax cut is made to be permanent, there is need to ensure that government
spending is reduced significantly in the market. An example is 2014 whereby the government has

The Bells Tone
Edgar Allan Poe s theme in The Bells is the four stages of a person s life. The silver bell is
appropriate for childhood, the golden bell is the one for youth and the maturing for marriage. The
brazen bell represents the harsh and dangers of middle age, and the iron bell is suited to old age
because of its heavy and melancholy tone and also because it is associated with the funeral knell.
(Litfinder)
In the first stanza, Poe never directly says the bells are Christmas bells, he uses the words tinkle,
icy air, and jingling, to let the reader know that he is describing Christmas. He uses repetition of
words like rhyme and time to give the reader an overall mood of happy (Poetry for student s pg.
47). He does this because this stanza ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poe provides a visual image and an association with a thing of value by referring to the bells as
golden (pg.48). He describes the night as balmy which gives a soothing and mild feeling instead
of the harsh use of icy in the first stanza (pg.48). Poe s world usage and repetition help the reader
realize that this is a joyous mood. This stanza symbolizes maturing, starting a family, and growing
older.
The third stanza takes a dramatic turn and is dark and gloomy. The third stanza is describing the
chaos of a fire and the desperate sound of the fire alarm. Poe uses personification to describe the
fire. He says that fire has a desire to climb so high that it can sit next to the pale faced moon
(pg.49). Previously in the poem the repetition of bells was an upbeat and happy, but now he is
using it to create a sense of urgency and panic (pg.49).
The final stanza is the saddest and depressing in the poem. In this stanza Poe is describing a
person s funeral. The bells are now black and made of iron and the sound is illustrated as
melancholy and as a groan. Poe uses personification in the phrase rust within their throats (line
69) to describe the bells having a thick raspy voice. He also uses repetition by repeating Keeping
time, time, time, in a sort of runic rhyme (line 92, 96, 101) to create a creepy and disturbing feeling

The Oregon Benchmark System
However, one of the issues was that even though the benchmark system assisted agencies
understand their direction, a lack of explicit budgetary support hindered the fulfilment of respective
agencies plans (Ford 2000). A similar issue was also raised by Young (2009) as he mentioned that
the Oregon Benchmark system constantly struggled to secure its funding needs. Leichter (2002)
also highlighted that the process of linking agencies programs with benchmarks were often
symbolic and in some cases agencies had completed creative accounting to justify their budget

folklore in this regard was the Oregon Arts Commission which claimed that it could help reduce...

Oregon Shines was used: to (a) link state and local level priorities and inspire local counties to
adopt the benchmarking system, (b) to facilitate educational reform, (c) to plan budget and funding
decisions and (d) to understand whether different agencies programs were aligned with the states
priorities as directed in the Benchmark (Little 1998). Even after its many issues, both Oregon
Shines I and II acted as a state wide unified vision which was able to generate valuable information
for the state legislators, state agencies and non profit organisations. This kind of information in turn
helped legislators enact important legislations, formulate policies and directed state agencies to
contribute towards the state s development (Lewis 2000; Ford 2000). Most importantly, one of the
major reasons of Oregon Shines success was its ability to receive patronage of different governors
as the administration changed with the election cycle. Diffusion of Oregon Shines model Since the
late 1980s, a number of US state governments initiated holistic state planning with targets and

instead of coffee when the price is not feasible for them to grow coffee. |
VI. Alternative Courses of Action
1. Set a minimum volume of coffee supply from farmers
Equal Exchange could set an agreement with the coffee growers that they will get a minimum
volume of coffee in order to gain mutual benefit. This will also ensure the coffee growers that
whatever happens in the market, they will still receive something as their income. 2. Offer loans for
the farmers in improving their production capacity
The Equal Exchange could offer some sort of loans for the small time coffee growers which they
could use for improving their production. When the harvest season comes they could repay the
company in any sort of payment they could give. It may come in the form of money or additional
volume of coffee. 3. Do nothing at all
This means that whatever strategy for Equal Exchange has been using will be retained despite the
changes that are happening in the coffee industry. This is to preserve the ethical behavior in the
part of Fair Trade.

Migrant Diaspora and Economic Development
Migrant Diaspora help Economic Development In the recent years migrant diaspora and economic
development is in special focus; awareness have been established in order to let the people know
that there are several economic benefits of the migrant diaspora. They do not only helps economic
development but there is many other sectors too which are being benefitted. The return of the
expatriates to their home place is considered beneficial in many ways. They have sufficient
knowledge about the culture, traditions and other things of the place that is why they can do better
business than others. US data is much optimistic in this sense as 50% of the students came back to
their own country who goes abroad for the higher studies but in India or China it is only 20%. It is
the same condition with the Afghanistan, students who go to other countries for their studies do
not return to home country and in this way, the country s asset is going away from them. A bright
and studied man has much importance for its country especially when he knows some work to do
in the national interest. The graduated students can directly or indirectly contribute to the national
economy. They are the real asset of the country and they can change the future of the country
through their innovative ideas. In this way, the migrant diaspora helps the national economic
development. The country or any administration should take appropriate steps in order to regain

Essay On Hoshin Kanri
1Origins of the Hoshin Kanri model
To start with, it is highly obvious to describe the origins of how, where and when this management
model was established.
Hoshin Kanri as the name originally comes from Japan. Etymology of the name gives the following
origins of it Hoshin = methodology for setting strategic direction and Kanri = administration or
management . Therefore, it may be said that Hoshin Kanri translates into management of the
methodology for setting strategic direction. (mcts.com, 02.02.16).
Historically, the Hoshin Kanri policy was developed in Japan after World War II. Hoshin Kanri
was started in Japanese companies to rotate a PDCA (plan do check act) cycle of companywide
size, and it is the stage where top management displays its leadership. The main reason is the
intensification of competition in the corporate business environment. Japanese industry has been

The Importance Of Censorship In Music
Censorship is a broad topic that can lead to chaos and misunderstanding if not clearly conveyed
for what it is. For example, rock music, the first major threat to traditional thinking caused a divide
between generations because of how different and explicit it became in the mid 1900s. It s no
surprise there were people ready to combat rock music. However, what is surprising is the fact that
so much happened with so little change in the music around us. Censorship if anything only helped
intensify the differences between society.
Controversy and censorship in music was around long before the rock music. In fact, a genre called
the blues consistently dealt with the imposed censorship on their recordings (McDonald, 1988,
pp.295 296). Also race spiked the urge to censor rock and roll even further. With some of the
leading people such as Chuck Berry and Little Richard being people of color it was no surprise that
there was outrage over their music. Where things get even more traumatic is when the Ku Klux Klan
(KKK) who was a radical racist group told the public not to buy Negro records because they
were poisoning the youth. This depicts the fact that racism was a heavy combatant against any
form of rock and roll. Race played its part in many forms of music (jazz, blues, etc.), but rock
music was seen as a major starting point for censorship since it caused such a major divide
between the youth and adults (McDonald, 1988, p.297). In today s society, I believe that genres of

Anthropogenic Noise Pollution And Its Effects On Cetaceans
Anthropogenic Noise Pollution and Its Effects on Cetaceans
Cetaceans use sound extensively in both communication, hunting, and navigation. However as
humanity continues to make use of the ocean we are constantly filling it with equipment that
produces high amounts of sound. These devices are starting to have an impact on cetaceans
worldwide, from mass strandings often linked to military exercises to area denials caused by busy
commercial shipping lanes and seismic surveys. If consideration is not taken towards this problem
now it could develop into something that could have degrading effects on cetacean populations in
the future. Sound waves are nothing more than an energy transfer through a medium be it through
a liquid, solid, or a gas. Sound pressure or intensity is measured on logarithmic scale in decibels
dB which increases on an order of magnitude. For instance a quiet conversation would be around
30 dB and whereas the human pain threshold would be just over 100 dB. While the pitch or
frequency of the sound is measured in hertz or Hz, the higher the hertz the higher the pitch of the
sound and vice versa (Hildebrand, 2004).
Anthropologic noise pollution can come from many different sources, some of the more common
ones are commercial shipping, acoustic deterrent devices, military sonar, and explosives (used in
some seismic surveys for oil and gas as well as military exercises). The main focus will be on
military sonar use, seismic surveys, and acoustic deterrent

Charles Dickens s Views On Social Relations Through...
Charles Dickens had many opinions towards social relations. He showed compassion and pity to
the less fortune. He portrays the social relations through marriage and kinship. Through the first
marriage with Mr. and Mrs. Gradgrind Charles Dickens shows how an emotionless lifestyle can
be troublesome. Mr. Gradfrind only cared about facts. He taught the kids that facts were the
core of living. I agree somewhat that facts are very important but, just facts are not a proper life.
Mr. Grandgrind home life was falling apart as you read on in the book. His wife admits that she
is not happy within her marriage because of his fun less ways. His kids do not like him at all.
He teaches his kids to not use their imagination or to play. This is not a happy warm family that
we normally see in books. Which affects his kid s actions leading up Tom robbing Bounderby s
bank. Another social relationship is the relationship between the people of Coke Town. The only
thing that everyone can really connect to is money. That s their only goal is making money or
working in factories. They do not act like humans. They act more like machines clocking in and
out at the same time going home and dinner then bed. No fun no imagination no nothing that
makes us humans. Charles Dickens uses imagery in the beginning of the book to describe the
town. When he talks about the red and black color of the faces of the people is an example. He
uses image to show an unfriendly face on the people. Actually quite

The True Artisans of Japanese Artifact Swords Essay example
Technology has steadily evolved to develop more innovative and productive techniques in the
making of various crafts. In addition to enhancing the quality of products, the ability to create them
at a higher rate has been discovered. However, quality and quantity are usually inversely
proportional to each other. In more recent times consumers have begun to desire Japanese artifacts.
Most producers attempt to sate this desire through mass production. While this alternative may be
inexpensive, it lacks the high quality that true artisans can deliver. In these cases, consumers are
also at fault as they let their desire for instant gratification outweigh their desire for superior
creations. Largely, in the production of crafts, producers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to this meeting, swords of artistic value could be preserved while swords forged solely for
the purpose of combat had to be destroyed. Even so, many American soldiers purchased katanas
cheaply. This trend became so rampant that as of 1958 there were more Japanese swords in
America than in Japan (Japanese). Nevertheless, resuming sword production after lifting the
prohibition was problematic because all swordsmiths had to understand that each blade they made

When the prohibition on sword forging was lifted in 1953, many potential swordsmiths flocked
to the market. However, to prevent the large scale production of cheap weapons with no aesthetic
value, Japan s government imposed a set of restrictions to help the craft maintain a high quality
(Kapp 27). The three restrictions fell under the categories of qualification, quantity, and
government awareness. The first rule for controlling the quality is that only licensed swordsmith
can produce a Japanese blade. To obtain a license, an apprenticeship must be served for at least
five years. The second rule limits the number of blades a smith can create monthly. A swordsmith
can only produce up to two long swords or three short swords per month. The final restriction is
that all swords made must be registered with Japan s police force. The quantity per month was

Proposed Solutions for Problems with the Federal...
The Federal Government owns nearly 30 percent of the United States land mass almost 650
million acres of land (Paul, 2012). National parks, National Forests, and National Wildlife Refuges
comprise the federally owned and managed public areas. These areas are managed by three main
entities: The National Park Service (NPS), The Bureau of Land Management(BLM), and the Fish
and Wildlife Service (FWS) (Edwards, 2012). The primary goal of these three agencies is to avoid
the tragedy of the commons by preserving the natural resources on these lands, while still exhibiting
economic growth based on them. Although, the Cato Institute study conducted in 2009 revealed
shortcomings in the current managed plan. It showed overgrazed BLM lands,... Show more content

The federal government in 1976 Congress passed an Act requiring BLM to maximize economic
recovery of federal coal sources in Powder River Basin, for US use (could last nearly a century),
but in recent years the government is considering exporting to Asia (decreasing the coal supply
to as little as 25 years). The Basin accounts for 14 percent of the US yearly carbon emissions
(Tuholske, 2014). Environmentalists have been pleading with the government for decades,
including the Obama administration, to consider the environmental impact of extensive mining
practices, but have been ignored thus far. Privatizing the land may give the area some relief,
because the results of the owners actions will weigh directly on them. It may keep the resources
in the US and the divergence from coal growing as disapproval rates soar. Also, a large portion of
the remaining coal lies under already privately owned land, so there is not really a compelling
argument as to why the rest of the land should not be released (Edwards, 2012).
Another option for privatization would be to sell refuges or parks to conservation land trusts. A
few land trusts include the Nature Conservancy and Ducks Unlimited. Private land trusts have tax
exempts and benefit from a large nation wide group of volunteers. Land trusts are also more likely
to charge efficient fees for land uses, instead of artificially low rates that the government charges.
However, land trusts do

NHL Lockout Analysis
Established on November 26, 1917, the National Hockey League (NHL) has been showcasing

the most recent lockout from September 15, 2012 until January 12, 2013, the players and the

After doing extensive research on both sides and their motives, we believe that the NHLPA was
more reasonable in their demands; it makes for players to make more money if the NHL was
making more money. What the NHL initially wanted would have cut player revenues by 9%.
Many additional factors made this unfair such as the lowered salary cap and their refusal to talk
unless their proposal was used; but the primary reason was that the NHL tried to establish an
equitable revenue split in their favour. What the NHL did was unfair to the players and the fans,
caused unnecessary commotion and dragged negotiations on for longer than it needed to

Why Do Bed Risers
Bed Risers Use a set of bed risers or four cement blocks to create extra space for storing luggage,
excess clothes, books etc.
Plastic Crates Stacking plastic crates beside your desk or in your closet is a great idea. Since plastic
crates come in a variety of colors you should be able to find ones that match your dorm room

Bilingual Phenomenon
1.Introduction What is bilingualism? It is very difficult yet problematic to define bilingualism
because many people with different bilingual characteristics might be classified as bilingual
(National Association for Language Development in the Curriculum, 2011). What we can simply
clarify is that bilingualism is the ability to use two languages. As we all know, Hong Kong, a modern
city of the world, is a well known bilingual city based on historical, economic, political and social
factors. And in our daily lives, it seems really common to see people have bilingual communication
under different circumstances, which is also known as the bilingual phenomenon.

Take the GovHK as an example. The information and contents given in the GovHK are bilingual,
which means people can switch the language as they know better. What s more, formal language
and high variety of language should be used in terms of instructions and government, which means
code mixing and code switching are not allowed to occur in the government websites.
4.3Bilingual phenomenon in education As mentioned above, due to the high demand of
bilingualism, students, as social instructors in the future, should have a good command of
bilingualism. Thus, the government has been promoting the biliterate and trilingual society for
many years. So English has been the medium of instruction in all the universities in Hong Kong and
many primary and secondary schools. In those EMI schools, both teachers and students speak
English in class while they might still speak Chinese in their daily lives. In this case, bilingual
communication is common in their daily lives.

Medea And Agamemnon Research Paper
The Greek tragedies Medea by Euripides and Agamemnon share similar character traits displayed
through Medea and Clytemnestra which ultimately lead to their own downfall. Clytemnestra
slaughtered her own husband and his foreign concubine seeing vengeance towards her husband
Agamemnon for sacrificing their daughter. Medeapoisoned King Creon, a princess, and murdered
her own children to seek justifiable revenge against Jason; her husband. Both women are seen to
resemble strength and power. The two women portray a behavior unlike any other woman of their
time period which ultimately leads to their downfall. The two plays both exemplify similar
characteristics such as the role of women, passion/power, and vengeance.

that she was indeed a woman, but crossed the line of her feminine limitations set by ancient Greek

One of the paramilitary groups fighting in the Afghan mujahedeen was Al Qaeda. After the Soviet
Union left Afghanistan in 1989, mujahedeen groups were still fighting over control of Afghanistan

recognize the problem of the mujahedeen groups fighting. The United States was just focusing on
making profits by building an oil pipeline from central Asia to the Indian Ocean (White, 2012). Al

Mary Shelley s Biography
Mary Shelley s own biography informs the novel Frankenstein in four important ways. Mary seems
to reflect many of her own feelings and experiences throughout the novel. She does this through
using the setting and the characters, while heavily influencing the text and storyline around her
own biography.
The first way that Mary Shelley s biography informs the novel is through the setting. The story
begins with several letters, the location of which are set in England. This connects to Mary
because England is where she was born and spent a lot of her life. Next, chapter 1 begins in the
setting of Geneva, Switzerland, which also has a connection to Mary s biography. When Mary first

Technology affects unemployment, economic growth, and organisational structure of jobs.
Through innovation in technology, new jobs are created while old jobs are made redundant. There
is also an overall skill upgrading effect while some tasks are deskilled.
Current stage of technological development gives the opportunity of nonstandard work to the
business world. Examples include freelance, telecommuting, workshifting, home working and the
idea of blended workforce, when standard and nonstandard employes work side by side.
Nonstandard jobs are more common for high skilled, high paid workers; it allows more fredom
and flexibility. Some disadvantages of homeworking and teleworking involve absense of team spirit
and lack of face to face social interactions and sharing ideas. In addition management connot easily
monitor, control the activity and make sure that employees are working towards the same goal.
Recently, applying blogs for knowledge sharing and problems solving across the organisation has
dramatically changed the nature of work. Managers use technological methods to encourage
informal coordination and make the workplase more engaging for benefiting the teamwork. Same
communication tools are utilized between managers of different department to combine their work
together or by partner companies to do business together regardless of time zone and language

The Correlation between Parental Affection and Future Adult Relationships
A recent study showed that a person s upbringing is the core foundation and influence on future
relationships. According to Currie (as cited in Tayler, 2015) it has been shown that a child s early
encounters shape the brain foundation for future behaviors. Parent to child relationship is the core
foundation in a child s development. (Butcher, R. L., Gersch, 2014) Attachment theorist John Bolby
showed that having emotional relationship with a child s main caregiver is the key foundation to
that child s personality and behavior. (as cited in Butcher, et al. 2014) A warm, positive early
relationship in a child s life leads to them developing strong emotional and social capability, which
in turn directs them into making positive future relationships with others. (Hanko, 2006) Thus, the
purpose of the present study is to establish whether positive, nurturing parental upbringing is related
to positive, successful adult romantic relationship.
Childhood Relationships A large body of research has demonstrated the importance of a strong,
nurturing parental foundation and the benefits it has on future adult companionship. (Hanko,2006 )

Analysis Of The Movie Cool Hand Luke
In the movie Cool Hand Luke, Luke Jackson (Paul Newman) is arrested for cutting the heads off
the town s parking meters. His punishment seems extreme, as he is sentenced to two years on a
chain gang at a Florida prison. Although Luke received several decorations in the war, including
the silver star, he never rises above a private in the Army. This suggests perhaps he has a
resentment for those in authority. Luke and three other prisoners are brought to the prison and

Captain ...and you call the rest of us Boss , you hear? (Rosenberg, 1967) Captain has coercive
power, which is defined as the potential to influence rooted in the ability to physically or
psychologically punish. (Kathleen S. Verderber, 2001) The prison also exhibits a high power
distance culture, which is a culture in which both high and low power holders accept the unequal
distribution of power. (Kathleen S. Verderber, 2001) Luke is put in a bunkhouse with the rest of
the prisoners and a strutting, cigar smoking guard named Carr (Clifton James). Luke s contempt
is immediately obvious to the others and he draws the attention of Dragline (George Kennedy),
the leader of the chain gang. One of the men tells Luke: You don t have a name here until

Bangladesh Is On The Right Track

Bangladesh is on The Right Track Bangladesh, the eight most populated country in the world has
been plagued by poverty for a long time. In the year 2000, the United Nations created the
Millennium Development Goals, the purpose was to decrease extreme poverty by 2015. Thus, when
Goal 1; eradicating extreme poverty and hunger was included in the project, Bangladesh was
targeted as the country is overpopulated and has a high rate of unemployment. A considerable
number of Bangladeshi chose to migrate to other Asian countries in hopes of better life.
Bangladesh has made commendable progress in achieving the MDGs, especially in alleviating
poverty. The first MDG of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger is possible for Bangladesh to
achieve due to efficient government programs, assistance from NGOs, and the positive impact of
migration. Understanding the factors that causes Bangladesh to be a poor country is vital. The
main cause is overpopulation. Bangladesh is considered a small country when compared to it s
population of more than 150 million people. Therefore, the resources cannot be distributed
equally. Bangladesh is also a country that is prone to natural disasters such as floods. Many of the
rural poor live in areas that are exposed to extreme annual flooding which will lead to devastating
damage to their crops, homes and livelihoods. The victims often resort to moneylenders, which

Characters In The Poisonwood Bible
In the novel, The Poisonwood Bible, the author Barbara Kingsolver details the journey and
transition of the missionary Price family from their all american lifestyle in Georgia to the jungles
of the Congo of Africa. What is most intriguing about the novel is its use of perspective in which
all four daughters: Rachel, Leah, Adah, and Ruth May, along with their mother Orleanna Price
narrate the story, which is divided into separate chapters depending on who is voicing their
outlook. Yet, what it does not portray is the father figure and head of the family: Nathan Price.
Kingsolver ultimately uses the Price family women surrounding Nathan to illustrate his character
arc, or rather his lack of throughout the novel. Through their eyes, it is revealed to the reader that
the character of Nathan Price is extremely overbearing in his roles as a preacher, father, and
husband to the point where it ultimately contradicts his plans. In The Poisonwood Bible, Kingsolver
develops the character of Nathan Price to reflect key ideas of power and its inevitable downfall
through his character arc. At the introduction to the novel, the Price family lives in the conservative
time period of the 1950s, nearing the sixties. Nathan Price reflects the ideas of the time, shown as a

Analysis Of Pretty Woman And The Proposal
Filmmakers have been making romantic comedies since the beginning of the art. The genre
includes light hearted scenes with two beautiful main characters showing their idyllic struggle and
journey to finding their love. The genre, most like most movies are not realistic, but it proves
great for escapism from your stressful everyday life. Romantic comedies, also poorly nicknamed
as the chick flick , have almost sturdy societal gender roles representing the two main characters.
One cis male and one cis female are typically shown. Pretty Woman and The Proposalboth show
typical conventions seen in romantic comedies, although The Proposal does a much better job
appealing to a modern feminist audience. The movie appeals to the modern woman by not
conforming to the stereotypical gender roles, not glorifying materialism, and focusing more the two
lead characters and their realistic flaws.
The man typically shows dominance and has a higher working status than the woman. This is
clearly shown in Garry Marshall s Pretty Woman. Julia Roberts is depicted as a low class
prostitute who falls in love with a wealthy businessman, Richard Gere. Many romcoms made in
the 90s through 2000s depicted this basic misogyny, but in the mid 2000s a romcom was released
that went against the standards of most movies in that genre. The Proposal directed by Anne
Fletcher shows a powerful working woman depicted by Sandra Bullock, who forcibly gave her

benefits and drawbacks of living in an extended family in the Maldives?
Family is one of the most valuable and irreplaceable things that one is blessed with in a lifetime. A
family is the foundation to everyone s life. The outcome of your life is dependent on your family.
Morals and values are obtained from your family circle. There are many types of family that exists
in today s society, each important to the upbringing of children. The most common type of families
found in Maldives are extended family and nuclear family. Nuclear family is a family unit

themselves.
According to Population and Housing Census 2006 (2007), the capital Male with an area of
about 2 sq. km. accommodates 35 percent of the country s population of 298,968. In short this
means that Male which has always been the center of all development in the country results in
overcrowded housing units. Vulnerability and Poverty Assessment 2004 explains that between
1997 and 2004, the proportion of people living in houses with 40 square feet or fewer of housing
areas per person has increased from 17 to 22 percent and the percentage of houses with a
compound has decreased from 57 to 39 percent hence making the capital city much more
crowded. As a result members living in a household have less personal privacy and weak family
relationships. Most of the time during weekends people want to be on their own, but in an
extended family these types of freedom are not possible. It is certainly disturbing that somebody is

Online Vs Traditional Classes Essay
Many more people would enjoy school if it was convenient to their time. A great solution to this
problem is online classes. Some wonder if online classes are just as educational as traditional
classes, and if the discussions are as easy to understand without the face to face interaction with the
instructor. In this paper I will be discussing how online classes can be just as educational and are
more convenient to those who have busy schedules. The points of comparison are assignments,
testing and materials, convenienceand interaction/discussions. The first thing I compared for online
and traditional classes were the assignments. Assignments for both classes require resource
materials like text books. For traditional classstudents the assignments are homework , but online
students do all of their work at home, so it is not necessarily called homework for them. Both
classes require a specific turn in date specified by their professor. Traditional classes have more of
an advantage because classmates are able to check each... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The interaction and discussion between the two different types of classes is very different.
Traditional classes offer a more face to face social interaction and allow students to meet fellow
classmates easier than those who are taking online classes. The discussions for online classes is
based on comments and emails sent between each other. Those in online classes are barely able
to talk to professors due to slow feedback and they are not able to communicate easily with
classmate unless they reach out through chat rooms or emails. This is difficult because students
are unaware of others schedules and it is harder to reach out because they may be busy at the
times you are not. An advantage of online classes is students are able to learn from professors
around the world which allows them to broaden their perspective and learn from different

Global Warming And Greenhouse Effect
The greenhouse effect is caused by the emission of greenhouse gases which prevent the outgoing
radiation of the sun from returning back into space. This entrapped energy of the sun results in the
excessive heating up of the earth, and causes the much spoken about phenomenon of global
warming, thus exhibiting the relation between global warmingand the greenhouse effect.
Introduction: The greenhouse effect is a natural warming process of the earth. The theory is that
when the sun s energy reaches the earth, some of it is reflected back to space while the rest is
absorbed. The absorbed energy warms the earth s surface which then emits heat energy back
toward space in the form of long wave radiation. This outgoing radiation is partially trapped by
greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor which then radiate the energy in
all directions, warming the earth s surface and atmosphere.
What is Global Warming?: What happens when too much carbon dioxide goes into the Earth s
atmosphere? The condition known as Global Warming occurs. Global Warming is the rising of the
Earth s surface temperature due to chemicals in the atmosphere. Global Warming has many threats
on the climate and even the health of the people on this planet. Some of these threats include the
altering of crop seasons and even affect the way organisms survive on the planet. Troubling facts
about the greenhouse effect include that the increasing amounts of greenhouse gases intensify the

Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most well known gothic writers around. He has written many form

There are many reasons to read the The Raven. One reason to read the poem is because it is a
classic. Secondly, reading The Ravencan give sight to Poe s thoughts and feelings towards his life.
Thirdly, the poem is a good example of the mind set of someone who has faced a loss. Another
reason would be that the poem can represent trochaic octameter form. It can also represent

He married Virginia in 1836 and it is believed that the couple lived very happily together. Alas,
in1847, Virginia passed away due to a case of tuberculosis, which is what claimed the lives of his
mother and foster mother the years before. Poestories.com states in the article titled The Biography
of Edgar Allan Poe , After losing his wife, Poe collapsed from stress but gradually returned to
health later that year ( Biography of Edgar... ). For the next two years, Poe tried starting a
relationship with a married woman, Nancy Richmond, but she did not share the same feelings.
He attempted to marry Sarah Helen Whitman, but the engagement did not last. He finally
became engaged again to his previous fiancГ©e, Elmira Royster, but disappeared shortly after.
Many of Poe s best works are based on the loss of a loved one, especially a woman. The Raven is
a prime example of this and is also a good example of the things that can happen to a person s
sanity after a loss that great. The poem is a must read for a poetic look at hallucinations.
Hallucinations are occurrences that happen inside the mind but not in reality. The Raven shows the
narrator experiencing, what seems to be, a hallucination. Jake Fling explains in his article, The
Raven by Edgar Allan Poe Literary Analysis , He [the narrator] is weak and weary (par 1), in a
debilitated state, and mentally unable to do much of anything at this point

As of now, Mr. Romer has been working in the Gulf of Mexico altogether for 34 years, since
1982. At first he only made about $3, then it raised to $5, then to about $7. He said being a diver

his job now is showing guys how to get a complex task done safely. He also enjoys passing on his
experiences for them to learn from. The worst part of his job while diving was being away from

they do something he has to make sure everything is in order and that everyone knows what is

How Did The Assassination Cause Ww1
The assassination and the ultimatum both played a significant role in the outbreak of the war. They
caused a chain reaction of events, which ended up eventually causing World War I. On July 23,
1914, nearly one month after the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Austria
Hungary issued an ultimatum to Serbia. Serbia accepted all terms of the ultimatum except for one;
consequently, on July 28, 1914, Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia, beginning the First World
War. France and England created an alliance because they both feared Germany s naval strength
and supremacy. Despite claiming it was defensive in nature, it spread east and eventually, other
countries were involved. Since Austria Hungary and Germany were in dispute over the
assassination, they became involved too. Therefore, alliance systems played a significant role in the

utopias been created but that dystopias have arrised. Each one is set and planned to be a utopia

They believe that their life is fine and there is nothing that they should worry about in Oceania.
A little farther into the book Orwell mentions, If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it
from yourself (Orwell). This tells us that even if the citizens of Oceania even tried to think of a
way to rebel against Big Brother it would not work. By the time they finished their plan they
would execute in order to take back control of their society the Thought Police would have already
caught them and they would be in prison or a camp for thought crime. The people are under so
much control that they think it would be better off if they don t rebel. They care content and
perfectly fine with the way they live because they know if they do rebel then it won t turn out very
well. We see that the government controls them with slogans and doublespeak. The proles are

the government already has full control over them and they are certain that everything is amazing.
Oceania depicts traits of a dystopia by keeping constant surveillance on their citizens and

Comparison Of The Taiping Rebellion And Indian Mutiny
The Taiping Rebellion and Indian Mutiny were both revolts caused by Britain s actions, motivated
by their wish to control international trade in stride towards their Imperialistic goals of globalizing
their trade network to maximize profit and control. As information was gathered on Southeast Asia,
Britain became increasingly interested by the potential value of native goods. With the additional
help of developing technology at the time, Britain was able to gain control via despotism. The
imperialistic rule was successful as encountered regions in Southeast Asia had always easily
controlled by global powers, until indigenous voices in India and Chinawere finally heard in their
fight to push back against Britain s greedy actions. Britain had found it necessary to expand their
reach in India and China for various reasons, some of which being to spread Christianity, creating
more ports for sailors, and benefitting trade networks. However India and China found fewer
benefits in Britain s motives and their message was eventually heard as the indigenous fought
Britain s globalization tactics that were not mutually beneficial but could be found on the agenda of
British Imperialism.
The Taiping Rebellionand The Indian Mutiny, sometimes referred to as the Sepoy Mutiny, were
sparked for different reasons but both took place after the British gained influence on their
respective territories. Beginning with the Taiping Rebellion, a revolt not against foreigners but
meant to counter

The Healing of a Centurian s Servant
Luke 7:1 10
After he had finished speaking in the hearing of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
A certain centurion s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and at the point of death.
When he heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and save his
servant.
When they came to Jesus, they begged him earnestly, saying,
He is worthy for you to do this for him, for he loves our nation, and he built our synagogue for us.
Jesus went with them. When he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him,
saying to him,
Lord, don t trouble yourself, for I am not worthy for you to come under my roof.

Jesus said to her, You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five
husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.
Sir, the woman said, I can see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but
you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.
Woman, Jesus replied, believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on
this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship
what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when
the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of
worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in
truth. The woman said, I know that Messiah (called Christ) is coming. When he comes, he will
explain everything to us. Then Jesus declared, I, the one speaking to you I am he.

Historiography Of Karnataka
A much early historiography of Karnataka by Aluru Venkatarao also delineates on similar lines
identifying the juncture of Battle of Talikota in 1565 as the time of decline of glory of Karnataka.
In his 1917 work titled Karnataka Gatha Vaibhava , Aluru Venkata Rao writes thus:
Having flourished for 230 years this glorious kingdom disappeared in half a minute by accident. It
dies. That was the end of Karnataka s glory. The kumkum was wiped off Karnatakadevi s
forehead! The mangalsutra round her neck was cut! Karnataka s wealth was destroyed Karnataka
s intellectual wealth disappeared. The sun of Karnataka s valour set. To summarise: since that day,
we people of Karnataka have become an empty name in history. Oh, ye of Karnataka, has the time
still not arrived for a recovery of past glories? Think about it. (71)
For Aluru Venkata Rao, the glory of Karnataka has flourished for about 230 years, while the 1947
historiography of Karnataka takes it much farther back in time. However, a significant aspect to be
noticed in the above quoted excerpt is the metaphorical manner in which the land Karnataka is
sketched in the image of a goddess. The appropriation of Karnataka in the image of ... Show more

Shilpa Phadke, speaking in general about the Women s movement in Indiapoints to the fact that:
The movement in the late 1970s constructed itself as secular but did not make any effort to define
its identity as such. It was assumed that affiliations with the women s movement were based on
gender and positions of difference were articulately largely on grounds of class rather than caste or
religious community. Class was constructed as a modern identity unlike caste or religious
community, which were seen as pre modern identities to be transcended.

This past summer my family and I ventured to the stunning city, San Diego, California. We stayed
at the multiflorus Catamaran Hotel on Mission Bay. While we were in San Diego my sister and I
tried a new extravagant thing, surfing, in the Pacific Ocean. Everyday we traveled to different
beaches with different marvelous different features, in the different parts of San Diego. The trip
was a blast, so many memories were made that will last forever.
When we first arrived to the Catamaran Hotel we were amazed at all the extraordinary activities
they offer. The hotel was in front of Mission Bay and was three blocks away from Pacific Beach,
which was very convenient. We rented two paddle boards, for my sister and I, at the rental shop
that the hotel offered, and paddled on Mission Bay. The location of the Catamaran Hotel was in a

The Rights Of The United States Constitution
The United States Constitution was designed to enfranchise the white men who, in 1787, were the
only citizens included in John Locke s conception of the social contract (outlined in his Second
Treatise of Government). At this time in history, women were not invited to be free and equal, in
relation to their husbands and fathers or as citizens in the founding fathers new republic. Therefore,
the Constitution never addresses abortion, contraception, or marriage. Arguments made in laws and
court cases on these topics, specifically reproductive rights, have therefore traditionally rested on a
right to privacy the court has interpreted as being found in the first, fourth, fifth, and fourteenth
amendments to the Constitution, rather than a right to freedom from sex based discrimination
found in the nineteenth amendment. The landmark supreme court cases Griswold v. Connecticut
and Roe v. Wadewere both won on these grounds, both setting a precedent for the expansion of the
right to privacy. This protection has also been affected by the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban and
the Hyde Amendment.
First off, in 1965 the supreme court ruled 7 2 in the Griswold v. Connecticut case that the state of
Connecticut s ban on contraception was unconstitutional, because it denied a married couple s right
to privacy (a right extended to unmarried individuals under the Griswold precedent in the 1972
Eisenstadt v. Baird supreme court case). This expansion of privacy in Griswold later informed Roe
v.

The second issue that is occurring within the family is a combination of an established entitlement culture and the erosion of the entrepreneurial culture. This is entitlement culture was established when Francisco Sr. would grant every request for money, new houses, and trips. The entitlement culture continued when Francisco Jr. became CEO and began using company funds to purchase a luxury car, helicopter and a boat that were essential to his executive post. The recommendation for immediate action is to stop the granting of requests for family members, if it has not already. Also it is recommended that Francisco Jr. be directed to stop purchasing luxuries with company funds for his personal use. Long term recommendations to solve these issues include writing a family constitution that includes a guide to the family s relationship to wealth and the business. Another recommendation would be to create policies that describe a process for purchases using company funds, and what entities the funds can be used to purchase. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The silver bell is appropriate for childhood, the golden bell is the one for youth and the maturing for marriage. The brazen bell represents the harsh and dangers of middle age, and the iron bell is suited to old age because of its heavy and melancholy tone and also because it is associated with the funeral knell. (Litfinder) In the first stanza, Poe never directly says the bells are Christmas bells, he uses the words tinkle, icy air, and jingling, to let the reader know that he is describing Christmas. He describes the night as balmy which gives a soothing and mild feeling instead of the harsh use of icy in the first stanza (pg.48). Poe s world usage and repetition help the reader realize that this is a joyous mood. This stanza symbolizes maturing, starting a family, and growing older. The third stanza takes a dramatic turn and is dark and gloomy. The third stanza is describing the chaos of a fire and the desperate sound of the fire alarm. Poe uses personification to describe the fire. He says that fire has a desire to climb so high that it can sit next to the pale faced moon (pg.49). Previously in the poem the repetition of bells was an upbeat and happy, but now he is using it to create a sense of urgency and panic (pg.49). The final stanza is the saddest and depressing in the poem. In this stanza Poe is describing a person s funeral. The bells are now black and made of iron and the sound is illustrated as melancholy and as a groan. Poe uses personification in the phrase rust within their throats (line 69) to describe the bells having a thick raspy voice. This kind of information in turn helped legislators enact important legislations, formulate policies and directed state agencies to contribute towards the state s development (Lewis 2000; Ford 2000). • 17. The Importance Of Censorship In Music Censorship is a broad topic that can lead to chaos and misunderstanding if not clearly conveyed for what it is. For example, rock music, the first major threat to traditional thinking caused a divide between generations because of how different and explicit it became in the mid 1900s. It s no surprise there were people ready to combat rock music. However, what is surprising is the fact that so much happened with so little change in the music around us. Censorship if anything only helped intensify the differences between society. Controversy and censorship in music was around long before the rock music. In fact, a genre called the blues consistently dealt with the imposed censorship on their recordings (McDonald, 1988, pp.295 296). Also race spiked the urge to censor rock and roll even further. With some of the leading people such as Chuck Berry and Little Richard being people of color it was no surprise that there was outrage over their music. Where things get even more traumatic is when the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) who was a radical racist group told the public not to buy Negro records because they were poisoning the youth. This depicts the fact that racism was a heavy combatant against any form of rock and roll. Race played its part in many forms of music (jazz, blues, etc.), but rock music was seen as a major starting point for censorship since it caused such a major divide between the youth and adults (McDonald, 1988, p.297). In today s society, I believe that genres of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Anthropogenic Noise Pollution And Its Effects On Cetaceans Anthropogenic Noise Pollution and Its Effects on Cetaceans Cetaceans use sound extensively in both communication, hunting, and navigation. However as humanity continues to make use of the ocean we are constantly filling it with equipment that produces high amounts of sound. These devices are starting to have an impact on cetaceans worldwide, from mass strandings often linked to military exercises to area denials caused by busy commercial shipping lanes and seismic surveys. If consideration is not taken towards this problem now it could develop into something that could have degrading effects on cetacean populations in the future. Sound waves are nothing more than an energy transfer through a medium be it through a liquid, solid, or a gas. Sound pressure or intensity is measured on logarithmic scale in decibels dB which increases on an order of magnitude. For instance a quiet conversation would be around 30 dB and whereas the human pain threshold would be just over 100 dB. While the pitch or frequency of the sound is measured in hertz or Hz, the higher the hertz the higher the pitch of the sound and vice versa (Hildebrand, 2004). Anthropologic noise pollution can come from many different sources, some of the more common ones are commercial shipping, acoustic deterrent devices, military sonar, and explosives (used in some seismic surveys for oil and gas as well as military exercises). The main focus will be on military sonar use, seismic surveys, and acoustic deterrent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Charles Dickens s Views On Social Relations Through... Charles Dickens had many opinions towards social relations. He showed compassion and pity to the less fortune. He portrays the social relations through marriage and kinship. Through the first marriage with Mr. and Mrs. Gradgrind Charles Dickens shows how an emotionless lifestyle can be troublesome. Mr. Gradfrind only cared about facts. He taught the kids that facts were the core of living. I agree somewhat that facts are very important but, just facts are not a proper life. Mr. Grandgrind home life was falling apart as you read on in the book. His wife admits that she is not happy within her marriage because of his fun less ways. His kids do not like him at all. He teaches his kids to not use their imagination or to play. This is not a happy warm family that we normally see in books. Which affects his kid s actions leading up Tom robbing Bounderby s bank. Another social relationship is the relationship between the people of Coke Town. The only thing that everyone can really connect to is money. That s their only goal is making money or working in factories. They do not act like humans. They act more like machines clocking in and out at the same time going home and dinner then bed. No fun no imagination no nothing that makes us humans. Charles Dickens uses imagery in the beginning of the book to describe the town. In addition to enhancing the quality of products, the ability to create them at a higher rate has been discovered. However, quality and quantity are usually inversely proportional to each other. In more recent times consumers have begun to desire Japanese artifacts. Most producers attempt to sate this desire through mass production. While this alternative may be inexpensive, it lacks the high quality that true artisans can deliver. In these cases, consumers are also at fault as they let their desire for instant gratification outweigh their desire for superior creations. Largely, in the production of crafts, producers... Even so, many American soldiers purchased katanas cheaply. This trend became so rampant that as of 1958 there were more Japanese swords in America than in Japan (Japanese). Nevertheless, resuming sword production after lifting the prohibition was problematic because all swordsmiths had to understand that each blade they made could not be an object of war, but rather, an object of art. When the prohibition on sword forging was lifted in 1953, many potential swordsmiths flocked to the market. However, to prevent the large scale production of cheap weapons with no aesthetic value, Japan s government imposed a set of restrictions to help the craft maintain a high quality (Kapp 27). The three restrictions fell under the categories of qualification, quantity, and government awareness. The first rule for controlling the quality is that only licensed swordsmith can produce a Japanese blade. To obtain a license, an apprenticeship must be served for at least five years. The second rule limits the number of blades a smith can create monthly. A swordsmith can only produce up to two long swords or three short swords per month. The final restriction is that all swords made must be registered with Japan s police force. The quantity per month was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These areas are managed by three main entities: The National Park Service (NPS), The Bureau of Land Management(BLM), and the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) (Edwards, 2012). The federal government in 1976 Congress passed an Act requiring BLM to maximize economic recovery of federal coal sources in Powder River Basin, for US use (could last nearly a century), but in recent years the government is considering exporting to Asia (decreasing the coal supply to as little as 25 years). The Basin accounts for 14 percent of the US yearly carbon emissions (Tuholske, 2014). Environmentalists have been pleading with the government for decades, including the Obama administration, to consider the environmental impact of extensive mining practices, but have been ignored thus far. Privatizing the land may give the area some relief, because the results of the owners actions will weigh directly on them. It may keep the resources in the US and the divergence from coal growing as disapproval rates soar. Also, a large portion of the remaining coal lies under already privately owned land, so there is not really a compelling argument as to why the rest of the land should not be released (Edwards, 2012). Another option for privatization would be to sell refuges or parks to conservation land trusts. A few land trusts include the Nature Conservancy and Ducks Unlimited. It is very difficult yet problematic to define bilingualism because many people with different bilingual characteristics might be classified as bilingual (National Association for Language Development in the Curriculum, 2011). In the year 2000, the United Nations created the Millennium Development Goals, the purpose was to decrease extreme poverty by 2015. Thus, when Goal 1; eradicating extreme poverty and hunger was included in the project, Bangladesh was targeted as the country is overpopulated and has a high rate of unemployment. A considerable number of Bangladeshi chose to migrate to other Asian countries in hopes of better life. Bangladesh has made commendable progress in achieving the MDGs, especially in alleviating poverty. The first MDG of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger is possible for Bangladesh to achieve due to efficient government programs, assistance from NGOs, and the positive impact of migration. • 41. Characters In The Poisonwood Bible In the novel, The Poisonwood Bible, the author Barbara Kingsolver details the journey and transition of the missionary Price family from their all american lifestyle in Georgia to the jungles of the Congo of Africa. What is most intriguing about the novel is its use of perspective in which all four daughters: Rachel, Leah, Adah, and Ruth May, along with their mother Orleanna Price narrate the story, which is divided into separate chapters depending on who is voicing their outlook. Yet, what it does not portray is the father figure and head of the family: Nathan Price. Kingsolver ultimately uses the Price family women surrounding Nathan to illustrate his character arc, or rather his lack of throughout the novel. Through their eyes, it is revealed to the reader that the character of Nathan Price is extremely overbearing in his roles as a preacher, father, and husband to the point where it ultimately contradicts his plans. In The Poisonwood Bible, Kingsolver develops the character of Nathan Price to reflect key ideas of power and its inevitable downfall through his character arc. At the introduction to the novel, the Price family lives in the conservative time period of the 1950s, nearing the sixties. Nathan Price reflects the ideas of the time, shown as a racially prejudiced man, which was common among white men, especially in the south, including Georgia. The genre includes light hearted scenes with two beautiful main characters showing their idyllic struggle and journey to finding their love. The genre, most like most movies are not realistic, but it proves great for escapism from your stressful everyday life. Romantic comedies, also poorly nicknamed as the chick flick , have almost sturdy societal gender roles representing the two main characters. One cis male and one cis female are typically shown. Pretty Woman and The Proposalboth show typical conventions seen in romantic comedies, although The Proposal does a much better job appealing to a modern feminist audience. The movie appeals to the modern woman by not conforming to the stereotypical gender roles, not glorifying materialism, and focusing more the two lead characters and their realistic flaws. The man typically shows dominance and has a higher working status than the woman. This is clearly shown in Garry Marshall s Pretty Woman. Julia Roberts is depicted as a low class prostitute who falls in love with a wealthy businessman, Richard Gere. Many romcoms made in the 90s through 2000s depicted this basic misogyny, but in the mid 2000s a romcom was released that went against the standards of most movies in that genre. Some wonder if online classes are just as educational as traditional classes, and if the discussions are as easy to understand without the face to face interaction with the instructor. In this paper I will be discussing how online classes can be just as educational and are more convenient to those who have busy schedules. The points of comparison are assignments, testing and materials, convenienceand interaction/discussions. The first thing I compared for online and traditional classes were the assignments. Assignments for both classes require resource materials like text books. For traditional classstudents the assignments are homework , but online students do all of their work at home, so it is not necessarily called homework for them. This entrapped energy of the sun results in the excessive heating up of the earth, and causes the much spoken about phenomenon of global warming, thus exhibiting the relation between global warmingand the greenhouse effect. Introduction: The greenhouse effect is a natural warming process of the earth. The theory is that when the sun s energy reaches the earth, some of it is reflected back to space while the rest is absorbed. The absorbed energy warms the earth s surface which then emits heat energy back toward space in the form of long wave radiation. This outgoing radiation is partially trapped by greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor which then radiate the energy in all directions, warming the earth s surface and atmosphere. What is Global Warming?: What happens when too much carbon dioxide goes into the Earth s atmosphere? The condition known as Global Warming occurs. Global Warming is the rising of the Earth s surface temperature due to chemicals in the atmosphere. Global Warming has many threats on the climate and even the health of the people on this planet. • 57. The Rights Of The United States Constitution The United States Constitution was designed to enfranchise the white men who, in 1787, were the only citizens included in John Locke s conception of the social contract (outlined in his Second Treatise of Government). At this time in history, women were not invited to be free and equal, in relation to their husbands and fathers or as citizens in the founding fathers new republic. Therefore, the Constitution never addresses abortion, contraception, or marriage. Arguments made in laws and court cases on these topics, specifically reproductive rights, have therefore traditionally rested on a right to privacy the court has interpreted as being found in the first, fourth, fifth, and fourteenth amendments to the Constitution, rather than a right to freedom from sex based discrimination found in the nineteenth amendment. The landmark supreme court cases Griswold v. Connecticut and Roe v. Wadewere both won on these grounds, both setting a precedent for the expansion of the right to privacy. This protection has also been affected by the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban and the Hyde Amendment. First off, in 1965 the supreme court ruled 7 2 in the Griswold v. Connecticut case that the state of Connecticut s ban on contraception was unconstitutional, because it denied a married couple s right to privacy (a right extended to unmarried individuals under the Griswold precedent in the 1972 Eisenstadt v.
