The Second Wave Of Feminism And The Gay Liberation Movement
These two films arrive amid the second wave of feminism in the United States. During this time, the
country saw the Post WWII era of family values, and mass consumerism. The civil rights movement
became the topic of discussion throughout the media, and college students across the nation became
political activist. The Vietnam war erupts as the main focus of the mid 60s, and tensions increase even
more as the Gay Liberation Movement blooms into full effect throughout the 60s and 70s. With all the
chaos, women saw themselves as secondary and decided to spark social movements as a way to gain
equality. Gloria Steinem became the face of the movement stating, The truth will set you free. But
first, it will piss you off. The main focus of the second wave of feminism was to gain women s power
and liberation. They sought to expose domestic violence against women, the marriage inequality, child
rearing, divorce, sexual assault, sexual liberation, birth control rights, abortion (Roe v. Wade),
education for women, as well as chattering the glass ceiling in the workplace. These two films could
be said to be a written response to the movement. In the film Halloween, the female characters are
sexually liberated but are consequently tortured for their promiscuity. The women are young, vibrant,
socially aware, and are comfortable with their sexuality. It would be safe to say that these women
would be a part of this movement given the historical context. The women in the film Carrie would

Aurelian Roman Emperors Essay
Beginning with the rise of the Roman Empire, many emperors of differing abilities would rule Rome.
Some would become men of great renown in Roman history, such as Trajan, but others were
despicable leaders, such as Nero and Caligula. However, all of them changed the course of the Roman
Empire, with many of them becoming known for their great accomplishments. One of these emperors
was Aurelian. Aurelian was a great military leader, strong emperor, and a strict administrator. Also,
unlike most of the emperors, his common birth did not suggest his future destiny with greatness.
Aurelian was born in the province of Rome in 214 AD. Unlike prior emperors of Rome, his father was
a commoner, and had no ties to politics. Like most commoners did during the time, Aurelian joined
the legion. The legion was Rome s version of the army. He quickly showed his military talent and
served most of his career as a cavalry commander. His military success led to his first introduction to
the politics of Rome. Due to his prowess as a cavalry commander, he became Gallenus escort.
Gallienus was the 41st emperor of Rome. However, his service to the emperor didn t last long.
Gallienus died at the hands of an assassin while laying siege against the Roman general Claudius. It is
reputed that Aurelian may have taken part in the plot. Soon after the emperor s death, Claudius
became emperor. During his reign, Aurelian soared through the ranks of the military. Then, in 270 AD,
Claudius fell ill to the

Honeywell
Introduction
Honeywell is a Multibillion dollar company, operating in 95 countries and is a pioneer in the field of
control system and industrial appliances. With revenue over $7.3 Billion and income above $400
Million (December 1996), the company was exposed to several types of risk as it operated in a global
territory.
Previously, the company had a much compartmentalised approach to risk management, with
individual departments managing individual risks pertaining to them. For instance, currency risks
were hedged using futures contracts and under the supervision of the Financial Risk Management Unit
while traditional (hazard) risks were insured by its treasury Insurance Risk Management Unit.
However, this individualistic approach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A White Heron By Sarah Orne Jewett
The Bird is the Word
According to writer, scientist, and environmentalist Aldo Leopold, Conservation is the state of
harmony between men and land (BrainyQuote). In the short story, A White Heron , writer Sarah Orne
Jewett, portrays the theme that nature must be protected and not harmed. Sarah Orne Jewett was born
in the year 1849, in a small town in Maine. Growing up, she always wanted to be a doctor, being that
her father was one. When she realized that becoming a doctor required years and years of education,
she looked for another occupation. She was always a keen observer of nature. As a child, she loved
reading classic books. She had admired how the authors transformed their thoughts to the page. She
then aspired to become a writer. As stated in a biography about her, A ... Show more content on

Whether it was left for a boundary mark, or for what reason, no one could say; the woodchoppers who
had felled its mates were dead and gone long ago, and a whole forest of sturdy trees, pines and oaks
and maples, had grown again. But the stately head of this old pine towered above them all and made a
landmark for sea and shore miles and miles away. Sylvia knew it well. She had always believed that
whoever climbed to the top of it could see the ocean (Jewett). The tree symbolizes strength and
wisdom over time. As stated by writer Thomas Erskine, When she negotiates the passage from the oak
to the pine, she undertakes a great enterprise, one at once challenging and fulfilling. From the top of
the pine she can see the vast and awesome world that lies beyond the safety of the farm (Erskine). This
represents that as Sylvia climbs the tree, she is growing up and becoming wiser, she is changing. This
ties to the theme that nature must be saved because you cannot grow without it. The author also uses

Comparing Golding And The Chilean Miners
After reading all these articles, the nature of mankind is down to the flight or fight response; you can
either try to flee your current conditions or fight to try and save yourself. The Chilean miners, for
example, fought their situation instead of giving up altogether and eventually were saved. However,
the 38 people who witnessed a murder and didn t bother to help fled or rather dismissed it. I don t
entirely agree with Golding, only some people will turn bad in the worst of situations, but with the
Chilean miners, they made the best of their situation and didn t have to do anything dire in order to
survive. Other people make us moral, for example, in the This I Believe essay by Norman Corwin, it
states that other examples of good will spread

Unions Struggle With Outsourcing
POSSIBLE INTRODUCTION Today Unions have a feud with outsourcing, the union employees are
losing their once thought secure job to outsourcing. This is due to a company s drive to increase
profits, decisions of lower wage and job loss occurs. When a US company s looks for other options of
employment, it usually come down to outsourcing, subcontracting, and privatization, these options
that companies take to increase profit. Union job security isn t always so secure, often union contracts
discuss the effects outsourcing, but not make the decision to layoff an employee in favor of
outsourcing. However this contract makes union workers bargain over their jobs, by lowering their
wages and if they do not agree with the bargain then the companies are able to layoff employee, and
replaces them with outsourcing. Unions are able to fight these companies for an agreement to be
made, for instance, if a union as a whole decides to agree with these new terms of lower wages, the
company is unable to let the employees go. Instead the unions will agree to terms with their jobs being
taken away and sent overseas, unions often lobby to retaliate their termination. US LOBBYING The
AFL CIO (American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations) is the largest
federation of unions in the United States, and a national trade union center. The AFL CIO represents
nearly all unionized workers in fifty six different national and international unions. Today the AFL

Comparing Cabaret And Hedda Gabler
These two plays may seem as if they have differences for example one is a musical which is Cabaret,
but they have similarities and many ways also. These two plays set into the lives of individuals who
are not satisfied with their lives, even though society may assume so. Since everyone is in their own
lives trying to make it the best as they can, they all do not realize how unsatisfied one of the characters
may be with their lives. Throughout this paper we will be able to see the similarities of these plays.
These two plays were chosen to be compared due to the position the characters were placed in, due to
their times and where they were living at in those times. Hedda Gabler is based on a life of a woman

Censorship In Ancient China
Since early dynastic governments, China has monitored and controlled media to avoid the
undermining of its authority. Some reasons for this censorship are well known by Westerners, others
less so. In 221 B.C, Emperor Qin Shi Huang burned Confucian and Taoist books in order to rid the
dynasty of different political perspectives. He did this not only to maintain order and unity, but also
because he was impelled by other ancient Chinese values. Values that included a belief in state s rights
over human rights and the preservation of the dynasty at all costs. The more complex models of
censorship used in China today were first used in the Soviet Union from 1922 1991 and are rooted in
Marxist Leninist thought. Westerners would be wise to consider China s political history and deeply
held social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in Confucianism, the government is designed around a ridged hierarchy. For a Confucian
society to function properly, everyone must understand their rank and act accordingly. Citizens were
required to put blind faith in and pledge unwavering loyalty to their superiors and government. In the
same way, in an effort to improve the overall strength of society, the Communist Party of China (CPC)
ranks their interests above the interests of their citizens. Given this superior mindset, the government
feels duty bound and even righteous in their punishment of journalists whose writings may endangers
the party s continuation. Recently, French journalist, Ursula Gauthier, was forced to leave China after
writing an investigative piece about a Muslim region in western China. From a western perspective,
this banishment seems completely unjustified as openness to new and old knowledge is celebrated as
is dissent, investigation, and inquiry. But, considering the CPC s singular focus on their notion of
societal good, this decision is understandable, if not valid. In

Junior Achievement Ambassadors
After volunteering this summer as a camp counselor in Junior Achievement s Finance Park I have
decided to apply to become a Junior Achievement ambassador. Biztown was my first experience with
JA, but as a counselor I learned what JA was really about. I want to be a JA student ambassador
because I believe it is a great program that helps student learn real world skills such as financial
literacy and future planning that they unfortunately often do not learn in school. In addition, for me it
is a perfect continuation of a program I participated in last year under the acronym of TYE. It was a
business competition where I learned about entrepreneurship, ideation and business basics, and
worked with a team to create and compete with a business plan. My team was lucky enough to make it
to the global competition. Moving forward a team member and I are working on creating a small

Critical Analysis Of The Hoods
No tickets, for we are lost , whispers the hoodlum youth as they ride the suburban train to the outskirts
of Brisbane. This opening quote from the play Hoods signifies the attitude of teenagers whom wait at
train stations, seen to be unseen and called the nobody s of society. The two Hood members played by
Jodie Le Vescont and Christopher Somers narrate the story Hoods written by Angelia Betzien, directed
by Leticia Caceres and composed by Pete Goodwin and afforded the ability to fast forward, rewind
and pause time. It is an impressive theatre play, of three young siblings Kyle, Jessie and Troy waiting
in a car abandoned by their mother, who frantically had to abscond after the abuse she obtained from
her husband. The current issue of domestic violence is skillfully handled in this Epic theatre style play

The proportional use of Character, narration and episodic structure to modernise the contemporary
play Hoods generates s a production abounding with challenging dramatic action and significance.
Primarily via the two Hood narrators, this performance effectively contests the viewers to examine
their own soul against others surviving in hardship and confront this cruelty with thoughtful
consideration.

character. They had impressive versatility of their characters and played each role with emotion. The

Florence, Italy was a city just like any other during the Renaissance. It was city of 50,000 people, less
than there were in Paris and Venice but more than most other European cities. The busiest parts of the
city were the Ponte Vecchio, a place lined with markets and houses, the neighborhood of the

his current financial situation, Giovanni s cousin, Vieri di Cambio de Medici employed Giovanni and

now skilled enough to attain wealth by using the methods of his cousin. A few years later, Giovanni

Developing A Successful Business Model
A firm understanding of the principle of supply and demand are extremely important in order to give
one the best opportunity to develop a successful business model. The ability to correctly determine the
demand for a product is imperative to ensuring one s product fills a need in the market. Businesses fail
everyday because the demand for their product was miscalculated during start up. On the other hand,
there are many businesses that are successful because they have developed a product in demand and
respond well to changes in demand due to outside factors. Fresh Healthy Vending provides such a
product. With any product, there are things that can change the demand, cause changes in supply, and

If an organization were to remove all traditional vending machines and replace them with Fresh
Healthy Vending machines, they would increase demand for health food items throughout their
organization by keeping health food available to employees. There are also occurrences that can
change the supply of products as well. Changes in supply can occur for a number of reasons.
Government policies can cause changes in supply. The supply of health food can be directly affected
by government policy changes. Currently, there are subsidies for certain crops grown in the United
States. If a change in policy caused these subsidies to be tied to organic crops, then the supply of
organic products would increase. Technology can also increase the supply of health foods. There are
all sorts of additional colors and preservatives added to food to increase presentation and shelf life. If
one developed a technological advance that illuminated the need for these additions, the supply of
healthier foods to the markets would increase as well. Ultimately, in order the change the supply for a
product, one must change the amount incoming resources, the size of the labor force, or anything else
that allows an organization to produce more of a certain product. Changes in supply or demand can
result in a change in the quantity demanded. Change in demand and change in quantity demanded are
not the same thing. Changes

Locavore Movement Research Paper
Nutritious. Healthier. Reduction of Carbon emission. All of these are positive aspects of local food
right? Concealed under these factors lie environmental destruction as well as a damaged economy.
The Locavore Movement has been on the rise due to its nutritional benefits, however, this
overshadows the effects of locally grown food on our environment and economy.
Many locavores say that locally grown produce contains more nutrients since they ve been recently
picked, unlike supermarkets where the produce has been left in the freezers for weeks. In addition,
they also claim that since it takes less distance to travel from farm to plate there is a decreased chance
of contamination (Source A). It s accurate to say that most produce grown from local areas are
healthier which is why the government plans to place more investments into farmers markets(Source

Larkin vs Abse on Relationships Essay
Larkin and abse discussing relationships
Philip Larkin and Dannie Abse have very different and contrating attitudes to relationships. On the
whole, Larkin presents the concepts of love and marriage as very superficial and meaningless,
whereas Abse appears to be less such nihilistic and more open and positive about such topics. The
essay will discuss this contrast by examing Larkin s Whitsun Weddings , Wild Oats and Arundel Tomb
, and Dannie Abse s Imitations and Sons . The poem entitled `The Whitsun Weddings` is an
observational piece by Larkin when he was travelling from Hull to London by train. The poem has
seven stanzas and is is typical of Larkin. The words are simple, the emotions are blunted and the ...

The heavy use of enjambment also carries this theory. Compare this to Dannie Abse s Imitations . The
poem centres on Abse s thoughts about his son and how he has become an adolescent. Although the
poem is rather negative, describing his son as a chameleon therefore suggesting his son is changing.
However unlike in Whitsun Weddings is less pessimistic, saying that although he will die like his son
his family name will be passed down the generations and expresses some affection for his offspring,
whereas Larkin has no such optimism, he focuses on the fact that he has no son and probably never
will, much like in Larkin s Dockery and Son where he contemplates his lack of contribution to his
species existence of how his life when he dies will cease to have meaning. The poem An Arundel
Tomb written by Phillip Larkin illustrates the relationship between two forms found on a tomb. This
poem shows the lies love can tell, and the falseness of how their relationship is portrayed. The fact
that their hands are clasped in one another s grip is seen to be symbolic of their undying and
everlasting love for each other. Larkin uses humour, along with sarcasm and irony to demonstrate that
this is in fact symbolic of nothing and merely by a sculptor s sweet commissioned grace . How can we

Microsoft s success in creating a positive change in the computer market is creating better computer

Melinda, founded a large charity foundation. Also, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, with an

Revenge In Beowulf
Beowulf
Revenge is a dish best served cold. Revenge is a major theme of the epic poem, Beowulf . Beowulf is
a poem that was written around 750 A.D., but was most likely orally passed down before then. The
original copy of Beowulf was partially damaged in the fire and since this was the only copy it had to
be rewritten. The monks kept what they could savage and added to it what they thought was best. It is
suspected that the monks added a Christ twist to the pagan story, but what was kept was the theme of
revenge. Revenge is a common element throughout the epic poem of Beowulf, the antagonists of the

Why Correlation Does Not Prove Causation
There seems to be a general tendency to attribute causation with correlation. People often conclude
that causation exist when the association between variables is seemingly obvious but this is a common
mistakes that people makes. It is important to note that correlation does not prove causation.
Correlation just simply implies that a relationship between variables exists and that there is a
possibility of a cause and effect relationship; however, it does not prove causation actually exist.
Correlation do not indicate in which direction the relationship works such as Variable A could cause
Variable B, or vice versa, or may a third (or fourth, or even fifth) variable may be the cause of both of
the other related variables.

that the work ethic of today s youth has suffered due to the relative ease required to perform most
summer or part time jobs. The main theme of the article, that a strong work ethic is an asset to future
endeavors, is persuasive because it highlights the importance of an understanding of the intrinsic value
of an education, comprehension of the uncertainty the job market, and the satisfaction of a job well
done.
Work as if you have everything to lose
Andrew Braaksma (2005) begins the article by clearly stating that Sweating away my summers as a
factory worker makes me more than happy to hit the books . Drawing from his personal experiences,
Braaksma (2005) sketches out what it meant for him to genuinely understand underlying value of a
college education. Working in a variety of factory jobs during his summer breaks, he passes on the

Obstacles Of Phoenix Jackson In A Worn Path
Everyday people are faced with obstacles that stand in their way of where they are trying to go. This is
shown in the story, A Worn Path. Phoenix Jackson is the main character and she is an old, black
woman who resides in the countryside of Mississippi. She is on a journey to reach a town called
Natchez, so that she can get her grandson medicine. But, along the way she is faced with obstacles.
These obstacles do not stop her from where she is trying to go, because through all and all, love
inspires bravery. Through the many obstacles that Phoenix Jackson faced along her journey to town,
not once did she show fear or give up because she was on a mission, and that mission was inspired by
love. Phoenix Jackson is very old, small, and she uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

she was afraid of the gun, she replied, No, sir, I seen plenty go off closer by, in my day, and for less
than what I done (DiYanni). The hunter even replied that she is scared of nothing, and she goes on her

complete this journey (Heller). Phoenix is brave physically because she had to climb over logs,
through thorn bushes, and a barbed wire fence. She is brave mentally, because she can stay calm while

that motivates her to stay strong for him and to make it through these rough

Six Elements Of A Literature Review On Tourism And Human...
1. Introduction
A literature review is a body of text that determines the aims to review the critical points of current
knowledge including substantive findings as well as theoretical and methodological contributions to a
particular topic. The review of relevant literature is nearly always a standard chapter of a thesis or
dissertation. The review forms an important chapter in a thesis where its purpose is to provide the
background to and justification for the research undertaken. Bruce , who has published widely on the
topic of the literature review, has identified six elements of a literature review. These elements
comprise a list; a search; a survey; a vehicle for learning; a research facilitator; and a report.

The Information-Related Capability Of Operational Security...
The Information Related Capability of Operational security (OPSEC) is defined as guarding
information to help ensure that military operations stay safe, secure, and secret from enemy forces.
This can include information such as Soldier numbers, times, dates, locations, Soldier strength,
equipment availability, operation names and other data. OPSEC enhances mission success by
preserving the advantages of secrecy and surprise. Terrorist organizations are continuously trying to
gather information on U.S. military operations. The information they look for isn t necessarily
classified, but it is still difficult for someone outside the military community to obtain. Never

Should violent sport be banned?
YES
There should be nothing violent about sporting, yet today violent sports has so dominated the
entertainment arena, that some people seems to live by it, and can t get enough of it.
These kinds of sports however, should be banned for several reasons. Violence begets violence, and
once there are limited restrictions, generations after generations will be caught in a vicious never
ending cycle, that will see the homes becoming the scenes of many crimes, the seeds of which were
sown, during those years of watching the entertainment events. The blood seen on the screens during

Excellence in any sport becomes an unrelenting quest to push the limits, to exceed and perform better
than the competitors and break the earlier records. The best performance is always the one better than

Such thrill and agony and excitement is experienced not only by the athletes but even more so by the

Emily Dickinson s The Narrow Fellow In The Grass
The Narrow Fellow in The Grass is a poem by Emily Dickinson who portrays the hidden creature in
the grass. In the starting we are curious to learn more about the creature and figure out its character.
Halfway through the poem, the poetess gives evidences of the snake s constant appearances and
disappearances. This tends the reader to perceive the snake to be a trickster leading to a sense of
deception. Deception is very relevant to the prevailing occurrences. One finest example can be false
advertising. False advertising is something which is misleading and can be unpredictable. The sellers
advertise their products and services to draw attention from the customers. Such advertisements are to
deceive the customers. The sellers want to obtain new clients by misrepresenting the features and its
appearance from their natural structure or pattern. Usually, such ads hide their cons and embellish
their pros. One of the case where false advertisements have been too deceptive is an advertisement by
Wal Mart. It had advertised a nationwide sale on coke. It charged the customers more than the
advertised sale price in more than hundred stores. Further, it was determined that the cash ... Show

the actual products when compared to their ads. There are many complaints on the images displayed
on the ad. They vary in colour, size, quality, price, etc. The fundamental purpose of an advertisement

TRANSNATIONAL IT OPERATIONS
A transnational company is a corporation that is registered and operates in more than one country at
the same time (West s Encyclopedia of American La., n.d.). A transnational corporation has its
headquarters in one country and operates wholly or partially owned subsidiaries in one other, or many
other countries. Some companies will outsource a portion or sometimes all of their Information

_DISADVANTAGES_
There are also disadvantages for transnational companies as well as advantages. Many times these can
be one and the same depending on the perspective. As the Multilanguage abilities can be a benefit,
they can also be a challenge. Even though people can speak a foreign language, they sometimes do not
understand all the inflections or the meaning of some idioms that may be common to an area that the
company serves. This can cause some annoyance and even offensive for some customers.
Another hurdle can be the lack of infrastructure in the desired area. This includes everything from the
desired quantity and quality of phone lines, OC3 or T1 lines or capability, necessary workspace for the
desired employees, or the availability of hardware or ability to obtain it where it needs to go because
of the potential host nation s legal restrictions or other challenges. These obstacles can usually be met
and defeated but there are time and cost considerations in meeting these.
There are also the potential for a difficult or even hostile political climate. This consideration is one
that can change rapidly in many areas of the world, and can be quite unexpected. Conditions in Egypt,
for the last few weeks can be used as an example of how a seemingly stable country can have civil
unrest quickly and unexpectedly.

We Cannot Ignored Project Failures in an Organization
Introduction According to (Wysocki, 2007), project is defined as a sequence of unique, complex, and
connected activities having one goal or purpose and must be completed by a specific time, within
budget, and according to specification . It is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the number of
project failures in organisation today. Similarly Chakravorty, (2010) Points that their are over 60%

the percentage of failures in projects are more than 80% in general. Airbus SAS s project of

branches in Germany, France, Spain and United Kingdom where it constructs and manufactures most
of it aircrafts e.g. A380, which is the world s largest commercial airliner with about 500 seats. The
project to manufacture A380 (formally known as A3XX) was proposed in 1990, led by Jean Roeder

CRJS 131 1A Criminology Key Graded Assignment The Mind of a Killer Ernesto Argote Westwood
College January 2012 Criminology is the scientific study of the nature, extent, cause, and control of
criminal behavior (Siegel 4). Criminology is not just understanding criminal actions but also studying
how to correct and prevent crime, overall. There are five major Criminological theories, (1) Classical
Theory, (2) Positivist Theory, (3) Marxist / Conflict Theory, (4) Sociological Theory, and (5)
Multifactor / Integrated Theory. Classical Theory originated at about 1764 and it involves Jeremy

Each of these theories had led to many new theories used today, such as the Rational Choice theory,
Biosocial and Psychological Theory, Critical Theory, Cultural Deviance Theory, Life Course Theory,
and many more. The one thing in common with every theory is that they all explain at least one
behavioral factor that leads to crime. Today, all these theories, and more, are researched and taken into
account when trying to understand why a criminal does what they do. John Wayne Gacy was born on
May 17 (St. Patrick s Day), 1942 to Marion Elaine Robinson Gacy and John Wayne Gacy, Sr. at
Edgewater Hospital in Chicago. He was the second of three children. His older sister Joanne had

Vandalism Vs Graffiti
Art comes in different types of styles and forms. However, its evaluation has become problematic
since the turn of the twentieth century with a new controversial art form of graffiti becoming popular
by many artists. On two sides of the spectrum, works of art that are produced by graffiti artists
demonstrate a broad spectrum of personal and cultural expressions through past experiences of
economics and social policies set by the state. Throughout this paper, I will look at three areas of
whether increases graffiti is related to the city policies. First is the social relation of inequality and
power within the urban cities as a whole. Second is the current policies implemented in St. Catharines,
Ontario and whether they are decreases the amount of graffiti seen on the street or not. Finally, is the
approach I would like personal take within the city of St. Catharines and the policies that I would
implement to decrease case of graffiti on private business property.
Social Relations of Inequality and Power in Cities
With the origin of graffiti dating all the way back to ancient civilization in Ancient Romans and
Greece, we can see that in the past graffiti was used as a form communicating their names on
buildings. Graffiti defined by Oxford is writing, or drawings scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly
on a wall or other surface in a public place (Oxford 2017). Many institutions looked at graffiti as being

Animal Abuse In The Circus
In a circus somewhere right now, an endangered tiger is leaping through a ring of fire as circus patrons
gasp, and then cheer. Elsewhere, a majestic elephant, the world s largest land mammal, is carefully
balancing on a tiny pedestal and performing for the crowd (Anastasia). Many people have visited the
circus and have enjoyed watching endangered animals parade around the stage, but many do not know
what goes on behind the scenes. Animals are taken forcefully from their homes and families.
Bullhooks, electric prods, ropes and fireplace pokers are used to train the animals in the circus (Godd).
This process is hidden completely from the public and is wholly unmonitored by any federal, state, or

It lends its name to one of the most common weather phenomenon on Earth the thunderstorm and its

Early humans believed thunder came from the deities the voice and expression of their god(s). The

Greeks, Jupiter of the Romans, Taranis of the Celts, Perkunis of the Slavs, Indra of the Indians and

They both believed that air smashing against the clouds caused thunder and, as the air struggled its
way through the clouds, it kindled a flame which was lightning.
Anaxogoras (ca 499 427 BC), however, believed that thunder resulted when fire flashing through
clouds (lightning) was quenched by the water in the cloud. Democritus (ca 460 370 BC), on the other
hand, suggested that thunder and lightning were due to the unequal mixing of particles within clouds
which caused violent motions, the resulting sound of which was thunder.
Aristotle (384 322 BC), in his series of essays entitled Meteorologica (written around 334 BC), wrote
that thunder occurs when
the dry exhalation that gets trapped when the air is in the process of colliding is forcibly ejected as the
clouds condense and in its course strikes the surrounding clouds, and the noise caused by the impact is
what we call thunder...similarly the windy exhalations in the clouds produces thunder when it strikes a
dense cloud formation. Different kinds of sound are produced because of the lack of uniformity in the
clouds and because hollows occur where their density is not continuous.
He also wrote that, in general,
the ejected winds burns with a fine and gentle fire and it is then what we call lightning, which occurs

Effectiveness Of High Preference ( High P ) Intervention
Introduction
Noncompliant behavior in an academic setting can result in missing opportunities, falling behind in
schoolwork, missing instruction and disrupting the class. It is critical that noncompliant behavior be
decreased (Banda Kubina, 2010). This study focused on a thirteen year old middle school student with
Autism. Brad was a student who displayed academic noncompliance particularly with mathematics
tasks. Brad was fully capable of completing all of the academic demands that were present, but
showed resistance in completing missing addend math problems.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of high preference (high p) intervention.
High p intervention consisted of presenting two to three high p tasks before the presentation of a low
preference (low p) task. Preference of tasks was determined with a pre study preference assessment.
Method
Participant The participant was Brad, a thirteen year old boy, diagnosed with Autism and Pervasive
Developmental Disorder. Brad received speech and language services once a week and had in class
paraprofessional support. The Woodcock Johnson Revised Achievement Tests (WJ R) determined
grade level performance in word identification and below grade level performance in comprehension
and problem solving. Brad s teacher requested help after identifying his need for additional support for

NR 505: Advanced Research Methods
September 2016
Systematic Research Review As advancements are made in science and technology that relates to the
care of patients, it is critical for nurses to be aware of the treatments that have been proven to be
evidence based. Systematic research reviews (SRR) are considered to have the highest ranking or level
of evidence falling under level 1 evidence for reliability, validity, and least amount of error (Melnyk
Fineout Overholt, 2015, p.607). The aim of this paper is to critique the chosen SRR related to core
temperature obtainment in children, relevance of the research problem to nursing practice, rigor of the
research found in the SRR to include levels of evidence and designs of included studies, the clarity of
findings, summarized findings in the SRR, and the implications for practice.
Relevance of the Research Problem The proper yet least invasive route to perform the measurement of
a core temperature in children has been an ongoing debate. Common methods or routes include
axillary or in the armpit area, oral, rectal, tympanic, and temporal. Proper temperature measurement
with an accurate result is important for diagnosis and treatment, especially in febrile children. False

There were around 25 1st grade students divided between 3 separate classes. To say the least, I was

Argumentative Essay On Cyber Bullying
A recent review of 377 articles found that cyberbullying affects 10 20% of adolescents as either
victims or perpetrators, or both, and is associated with emotional stress, social anxiety, substance
abuse, depressive symptoms, suicidal ideation, and suicide attempts (Wiederhold, 2016). Health
professionals can help identify cyberbullies in their young patients by questioning them about
problems they might be having on the internet and meeting strangers online. Health professionals are
encouraged to be alert and to try and detect these signs as soon as possible. Their help may help
prevent a suicide, which is the third leading cause of death for American youth ages 10 24
(Wiederhold, 2016). Help from our health professionals can make a big difference in the life of
children who are being affected by peer or online victimization.
As a community, all adults play an important role in ensuring that all children are safe and free of
victimization. Communities can create strategies that can help identify and support children that are
being victimized by their peers or strangers online. It is also possible to change the behavior of the
perpetrators and bystanders of these harmful events. There are many benefits of working together as a
community to fight a harmful situation such as bullying. It does not just happen at school it happens
everywhere within the community. It happens in our parks, churches, malls, extracurricular events,

Ethical Issues In Ethics
Ethics
The field of ethics (or moral philosophy) involves systematizing, defending, and recommending
concepts of right and wrong behavior. Philosophers today usually divide ethical theories into three
general subject areas: metaethics, normative ethics, and applied ethics.
Metaethics investigates where our ethical principles come from, and what they mean. Are they merely
social inventions? Do they involve more than expressions of our individual emotions? Metaethical
answers to these questions focus on the issues of universal truths, the will of God, the role of reason in
ethical judgments, and the meaning of ethical terms themselves.
Normative ethics takes on a more practical task, which is to arrive at moral standards that regulate

According to many feminist philosophers, traditional morality is male centered since it is modeled
after practices that have been traditionally male dominated, such as acquiring property, engaging in
business contracts, and governing societies. The rigid systems of rules required for trade and
government were then taken as models for the creation of equally rigid systems of moral rules, such as
lists of rights and duties. Women, by contrast, have traditionally had a nurturing role by raising
children and overseeing domestic life. These tasks require less rule following, and more spontaneous
and creative action. Using the woman s experience as a model for moral theory, then, the basis of
morality would be spontaneously caring for others as would be appropriate in each unique
circumstance. On this model, the agent becomes part of the situation and acts caringly within that
context. This stands in contrast with male modeled morality where the agent is a mechanical actor
who performs his required duty, but can remain distanced from and unaffected by the situation. A care
based approach to morality, as it is sometimes called, is offered by feminist ethicists as either a
replacement for or a supplement to traditional male modeled moral

Toys R Us Essay
1. Was Japan an attractive market for Toys R Us? Do you think there were any cultural obstacles to
product acceptance? Strong competitors? a. Japan was a very attractive market for Toys R Us. While
there are cultural differences between the United States and Japan, the United States and our products
are generally accepted by the Japanese. The use of McDonalds in the transition into Japan also helped
Toys R Us. Toys R Us faced a few competitors when they entered Japan, but there was no strong
competitor. In Japan at the time there was no such thing as a toy superstore so they quickly dominated
the market. Toys R Us only faced competition from other popular brands producing toys and selling
them in specialty shops. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a he turning point because a Japanese product known to the people was being sold through
this giant toy distributor. Soon other brands followed suit. They could have tried the alternative route
of connecting with the Japanese toy manufactures in a way that would not seem so industrialized. 4.
What were the problems in transferring the Toys R Us competitive advantages to a foreign market?
Why did Toys R Us internalize the firm specific advantages rather than license another retailer
abroad? a. Transferring the Toys R Us competitive advantage to a foreign market was a problem
because in the United States Toys R Us was the largest toy retail store, but in Japan they had their own
system for selling toys. They also faced the issue of how the Japanese value quality over value. The
low prices approach wasn t going to work because they were worried about the quality. Toys R Us had
to rethink their major competitive advantage that was such a success in the States. Toys R Us decided
to internalize rather then license another retailer because in the States Toys R Us was a huge success
and before open the Japanese location, Toys R Us was already operating in eight other countries. They
were not afraid to expand, not to mention they have their own system of success, licensing would
jeopardize that success plan. 5. Given Wal Mart s threat in the US market, what should Toys R Us
future strategy be? a. Toys

Essay On Splitup Function
This splitup function helps in coming out of the problem associated with DBSCAN as it aims to
partition highly uniform datasets, which may be incorrectly identified as a single cluster if DBSCAN
is called with a reasonable large s reachability value (Usually the density based algorithm forms
relatively less clusters based on the density even when there is a need to further divide the clusters).
This splitup function is also useful for some datasets that present specific challenges for the density
based algorithm such as those with large discrepancies in density. When there is a situation which
leads into a dilemma in which clusters to split, this function takes the strength of the cluster as well as
the distance between the new clusters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The initial centroid for the top cluster is the data point far away from the original cluster s centroid. To
find the initial location of the centroid of the bottom cluster, we draw a vector starting at the original
cluster s centroid and ending at the top cluster s centroid. This vector is then set to point in the
opposite direction of the top centroid. The endpoint of this mirrored vector is used as the initial
centroid for the bottom cluster. This entire process of splitting the cluster results in the initial centroids
for top and bottom being as far away from each other as possible. Figure 3. A pseudocode of the
mirroring function used in the weighted split function of our CluDataSE. The complete dataset points
of the original cluster are then assigned to either the top or bottom clusters, depending on which
centroid is closer. Once all the data points have been assigned to some cluster, the top and bottom
clusters are then checked to have at least minimum points of data points. If either the top or the bottom
cluster contains less than minimum points of data points, then the split is considered invalid. In this
case, the original cluster remains the same without further classification, and, the top and bottom
clusters formed using splitup function are discarded. If a split has occurred, the two new clusters, top
and bottom are stored in a list of new

Ethical Difficulty Between Diversity And Extrinsic Values
Inherently, there exists an ethical difficulty in appraising an intrinsic value, for these values are often
abstract and intangible. Typical extrinsic appraisals often look at condition or rarity to determine a
value, however, intrinsic values can be priceless. Although some intrinsic values such as happiness or
love are qualitative, the value of diversity is purely quantitative. It is fundamental to understand how
the value of diversity clearly increases positively, where greater diversity is always equated with a
greater intrinsic value.
When applied to ecosystems, the level of species diversity is most frequently measured as an indicator
of the ecosystem value. For example, a desert may only contain tens of species, yet a sub tropical

  • 2. The Second Wave Of Feminism And The Gay Liberation Movement These two films arrive amid the second wave of feminism in the United States. During this time, the country saw the Post WWII era of family values, and mass consumerism. The civil rights movement became the topic of discussion throughout the media, and college students across the nation became political activist. The Vietnam war erupts as the main focus of the mid 60s, and tensions increase even more as the Gay Liberation Movement blooms into full effect throughout the 60s and 70s. With all the chaos, women saw themselves as secondary and decided to spark social movements as a way to gain equality. Gloria Steinem became the face of the movement stating, The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off. The main focus of the second wave of feminism was to gain women s power and liberation. They sought to expose domestic violence against women, the marriage inequality, child rearing, divorce, sexual assault, sexual liberation, birth control rights, abortion (Roe v. Wade), education for women, as well as chattering the glass ceiling in the workplace. These two films could be said to be a written response to the movement. In the film Halloween, the female characters are sexually liberated but are consequently tortured for their promiscuity. The women are young, vibrant, socially aware, and are comfortable with their sexuality. It would be safe to say that these women would be a part of this movement given the historical context. The women in the film Carrie would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Aurelian Roman Emperors Essay Beginning with the rise of the Roman Empire, many emperors of differing abilities would rule Rome. Some would become men of great renown in Roman history, such as Trajan, but others were despicable leaders, such as Nero and Caligula. However, all of them changed the course of the Roman Empire, with many of them becoming known for their great accomplishments. One of these emperors was Aurelian. Aurelian was a great military leader, strong emperor, and a strict administrator. Also, unlike most of the emperors, his common birth did not suggest his future destiny with greatness. Aurelian was born in the province of Rome in 214 AD. Unlike prior emperors of Rome, his father was a commoner, and had no ties to politics. Like most commoners did during the time, Aurelian joined the legion. The legion was Rome s version of the army. He quickly showed his military talent and served most of his career as a cavalry commander. His military success led to his first introduction to the politics of Rome. Due to his prowess as a cavalry commander, he became Gallenus escort. Gallienus was the 41st emperor of Rome. However, his service to the emperor didn t last long. Gallienus died at the hands of an assassin while laying siege against the Roman general Claudius. It is reputed that Aurelian may have taken part in the plot. Soon after the emperor s death, Claudius became emperor. During his reign, Aurelian soared through the ranks of the military. Then, in 270 AD, Claudius fell ill to the ... A White Heron By Sarah Orne Jewett The Bird is the Word According to writer, scientist, and environmentalist Aldo Leopold, Conservation is the state of harmony between men and land (BrainyQuote). In the short story, A White Heron , writer Sarah Orne Jewett, portrays the theme that nature must be protected and not harmed. Sarah Orne Jewett was born in the year 1849, in a small town in Maine. Growing up, she always wanted to be a doctor, being that her father was one. When she realized that becoming a doctor required years and years of education, she looked for another occupation. But the stately head of this old pine towered above them all and made a landmark for sea and shore miles and miles away. Sylvia knew it well. She had always believed that whoever climbed to the top of it could see the ocean (Jewett). The tree symbolizes strength and wisdom over time. As stated by writer Thomas Erskine, When she negotiates the passage from the oak to the pine, she undertakes a great enterprise, one at once challenging and fulfilling. From the top of the pine she can see the vast and awesome world that lies beyond the safety of the farm (Erskine). This represents that as Sylvia climbs the tree, she is growing up and becoming wiser, she is changing. This ties to the theme that nature must be saved because you cannot grow without it. Comparing Golding And The Chilean Miners After reading all these articles, the nature of mankind is down to the flight or fight response; you can either try to flee your current conditions or fight to try and save yourself. The Chilean miners, for example, fought their situation instead of giving up altogether and eventually were saved. However, the 38 people who witnessed a murder and didn t bother to help fled or rather dismissed it. I don t entirely agree with Golding, only some people will turn bad in the worst of situations, but with the Chilean miners, they made the best of their situation and didn t have to do anything dire in order to survive. • 8. Unions Struggle With Outsourcing POSSIBLE INTRODUCTION Today Unions have a feud with outsourcing, the union employees are losing their once thought secure job to outsourcing. This is due to a company s drive to increase profits, decisions of lower wage and job loss occurs. When a US company s looks for other options of employment, it usually come down to outsourcing, subcontracting, and privatization, these options that companies take to increase profit. Union job security isn t always so secure, often union contracts discuss the effects outsourcing, but not make the decision to layoff an employee in favor of outsourcing. However this contract makes union workers bargain over their jobs, by lowering their wages and if they do not agree with the bargain then the companies are able to layoff employee, and replaces them with outsourcing. Unions are able to fight these companies for an agreement to be made, for instance, if a union as a whole decides to agree with these new terms of lower wages, the company is unable to let the employees go. Instead the unions will agree to terms with their jobs being taken away and sent overseas, unions often lobby to retaliate their termination. Some reasons for this censorship are well known by Westerners, others less so. In 221 B.C, Emperor Qin Shi Huang burned Confucian and Taoist books in order to rid the dynasty of different political perspectives. He did this not only to maintain order and unity, but also because he was impelled by other ancient Chinese values. Values that included a belief in state s rights over human rights and the preservation of the dynasty at all costs. Criminology is not just understanding criminal actions but also studying how to correct and prevent crime, overall. There are five major Criminological theories, (1) Classical Theory, (2) Positivist Theory, (3) Marxist / Conflict Theory, (4) Sociological Theory, and (5) Multifactor / Integrated Theory. Today, all these theories, and more, are researched and taken into account when trying to understand why a criminal does what they do. John Wayne Gacy was born on May 17 (St. Patrick s Day), 1942 to Marion Elaine Robinson Gacy and John Wayne Gacy, Sr. at Edgewater Hospital in Chicago. He was the second of three children. Democritus (ca 460 370 BC), on the other hand, suggested that thunder and lightning were due to the unequal mixing of particles within clouds which caused violent motions, the resulting sound of which was thunder. Aristotle (384 322 BC), in his series of essays entitled Meteorologica (written around 334 BC), wrote that thunder occurs when the dry exhalation that gets trapped when the air is in the process of colliding is forcibly ejected as the clouds condense and in its course strikes the surrounding clouds, and the noise caused by the impact is what we call thunder...similarly the windy exhalations in the clouds produces thunder when it strikes a dense cloud formation. It is critical that noncompliant behavior be decreased (Banda Kubina, 2010). This study focused on a thirteen year old middle school student with Autism. Brad was a student who displayed academic noncompliance particularly with mathematics tasks. Brad was fully capable of completing all of the academic demands that were present, but showed resistance in completing missing addend math problems. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of high preference (high p) intervention. High p intervention consisted of presenting two to three high p tasks before the presentation of a low preference (low p) task. Preference of tasks was determined with a pre study preference assessment. Method Participant The participant was Brad, a thirteen year old boy, diagnosed with Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder. According to many feminist philosophers, traditional morality is male centered since it is modeled after practices that have been traditionally male dominated, such as acquiring property, engaging in business contracts, and governing societies. The rigid systems of rules required for trade and government were then taken as models for the creation of equally rigid systems of moral rules, such as lists of rights and duties. Women, by contrast, have traditionally had a nurturing role by raising children and overseeing domestic life. These tasks require less rule following, and more spontaneous and creative action. Using the woman s experience as a model for moral theory, then, the basis of morality would be spontaneously caring for others as would be appropriate in each unique circumstance. On this model, the agent becomes part of the situation and acts caringly within that context. This stands in contrast with male modeled morality where the agent is a mechanical actor who performs his required duty, but can remain distanced from and unaffected by the situation. This vector is then set to point in the opposite direction of the top centroid. The endpoint of this mirrored vector is used as the initial centroid for the bottom cluster. This entire process of splitting the cluster results in the initial centroids for top and bottom being as far away from each other as possible. Figure 3. Typical extrinsic appraisals often look at condition or rarity to determine a value, however, intrinsic values can be priceless. It is fundamental to understand how the value of diversity clearly increases positively, where greater diversity is always equated with a greater intrinsic value.
