Water Rights Simulation
Water right transfers are one of the basic means of implementing changes in water use in hugely
allocated water resource organizations in the western side of the United States of America. These
systems are overlooked by the Prior Appropriation Doctrine, which was not formally intended for
application to ground water pumping and the conjunctive management of groundwater and surface
water, hence creating an administrative challenge.
The challenge results from the fact that ground water pumping can affect all interconnected surface
water bodies and the effects may be immeasurably small relative to surface water discharge and
greatly attenuated in time. Although we may possess the ability to calculate the effects of ground
water pumping ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the last decades aquifers have increasingly been prone to pollution, which is remarkably
problematic as the volume of aquifers to recover is often very restricted. Also the rate at which
global groundwater stocks are depleted has more than doubled between 1960 and 2000 this
knowledge was documented by Kerstin Mechlem (as cited in Bierkens et al. , 2011). Over thirty
million people depend on private aquifer wells as their source of drinking water, spoken about by
Schmalzired and Keil (as cited in Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2006). A
land that clearly demonstrates how water rights can be abused is Texas. Texas is legendary for its
long standing dedication to the common law rule of gaining control, allowing landowners to keep
as much groundwater as they can pump without liability to nearby landowners whose supplies are
drained.Texas has recently taken this property scheme a step further in Edwards Aquifer Authority
v. Day, in which the state Supreme Court concluded that the common law provides Texas
landowner s vested rights in groundwater while it is in place beneath their land, prior to capture.
Despite the fact that the conclusion has been greatly criticized for expected deleterious effects on
groundwater management, there is an argument that states that the state supreme court provided a
path that is more

Summary Of The Power And The Glory Myths Of American...
The Power and the Glory: Myths of American Exceptionalism by Howard Zinn brings light to
American exceptionalism which is the perception that the United States differs from other
countries. He starts off by providing an example of when this idea of exceptionalism started; using
the phrase a city upon a hill creates an image of liberty and democracy in which others can look to
as an example. This image is slandered when the morality of past actions such as the massacres of
Native American villages throughout the country are brought into the picture. Conquering territory
and the mistreatment of the occupants who choose to resist are constant throughout history. The
justification that goes into expansion is seen as divinely ordained ; such

Reflection Of The Giglio Festival
The festival shown in the documentary is called The Feast of St. Paulinus, or better known as
the The Giglio Festival. The festival usually held in Brooklyn, New York and takes place on
every July, on the day known as the Giglio Sunday . On Giglio Sunday, there are lots of people in
the streets and it is believed that the festivalwas attended by at least ten thousand people. All of the
people that attend the festival consist from people with all ages, from very young to old people

The Giglio Festival also followed this order proposed by Bauman. It has the closing and opening
ceremony, foods that include variety of Italian delicacies, souvenirs, dance, games and also music.
All the customs and materials that associated with this festival express the identity of Italian
cultural heritage celebrated by the people there. For example, all the foods served and sold
during the festival consist of Italian delicacies, and there are also Italian folk bands playing
instruments and singing their folk songs. In addition to that, the music played can also be a
personal attribute to someone that identified its owner. For example, it is said in the documentary
that there was a time where a man used theme song from a movie called Rocky because he was
once a boxer.
Besides, there are no specific costumes for the spectators as it looks like the spectators from the
documentary did not wear anything specific like masks to the festival. However, we can see that
the brass band and all the men that carried the statue on their shoulder have to wear something
similar. For example, the brass band wears red hats and white shirts, while the men wear white
hats, shirts and shoes as a symbol of unity. There is also a verbal folklore present, known as a
legend that talk about the history of St. Paulino and why they celebrated this festival. One man

Praxis Consultation Model
CONSULTATION MODELS 1) Caplan s Mental Health Consultation In his view, maladaptive
behavior and psychological disturbance arise because caregivers, family, friends, and community
groups within a social system to do not provide sufficient direction, support and stability when an
individual is faced with a stressful life event. He believed that mental health consultation is a
service to many different professionals to assist them in dealing with the psychological aspects of a
current work problem, and, to deal more effectively with similar problems in the future. This type of
consultation was developed as a preventative approach to dealing with mental disorders.

model is a behavioral operant model that defines consultation as an indirect, problem solving
service involving a collegial relationship between the consultant and consultee in which the
consultant acquires and communicates psychological data that will enable the consultee to utilize
the data. Relies upon a complex communications model to elicit the information needed and
includes a series of specific recommendations regarding problem identification and resolution.
Bergan and Kratochwill view the consultant as an AUTHORITY FIGURE WHO ASSUMES
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONSULTING RELATIONSHIP. Also, they focus on
changing BEHAVIORS! Thus, the primary goals are: 1) Change the client s behavior 2) Change
the consultee s behavior 3) Produce changes in organizations. Areas in which information can be
gained from the consultee include: 1) Background environment 2) The setting in which the client s
behavior occurs 3) The parameters of the client s behavior (antecedents and consequences) 4)
Special characteristics of the client (ex. learning disabilities, neurological difficulties, etc). 5) The

The War Theory Of War
What is War?
The term war can be defined as a clash that arises between different groups, states or nations.
Different ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, and scarce resources are just a few of many
reasons why such an act of violence may be practiced throughout the world. However, could a war
ever be completely just? And if so, who would be responsible for deeming what would and would
not be considered as being morally and theologically justified? This will be discussed in further
detail later on in this report.
Premise
The Just War Theory states that war can sometimes be permissible if it is satisfactorily evaluated
by the tenets of the theory. I believe that in order for a war to be just , it must always be a result
of an act of self defense against a more powerful and threatening opponent. I also believe that war
should always be considered as being the very last resort in conflict due to its many resulting
consequences. But in such circumstances, who (or what) would determine when war would be
permissible?
What is Just?
The term just is difficult to perfectly define as it is ultimately based on one s own perspective.
Different upbringings and backgrounds would influence one s idea of the term just. Therefore,
only an individual who has absolutely no sense of bias would be able to carry out the task of
determining when a war would be considered justified and permissible. However, nobody is ever
bias free . Humans all come from upbringings that influence their

The Importance Of Physical Education On American Schools
The Importance of Physical Education in American Schools
Review
Hommes, Tiffany J., Bemidji State University, USA
Background Many children in America do not receive the needed amount of physical activity
needed to maintain a healthy weight. Approximately17% of children are obese (Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation, 2016) and 1 in 3 children are overweight or obese (American Heart
Association, 2016). This is a local and national emergency that needs to be addressed to keep
children healthy, prevent morbidities, and control the costs that are associated with being
overweight or obese. Pre diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension in children is at an all time
high. However, research indicates that only 3.8 percent of American elementary schools provide
daily physical education (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2007). This paper will discuss the
importance of daily physical education in our schools. There is an abundance of support to
provide daily physical education in our schools. First Lady Michelle Obama (2010) stated that she
will lead a national initiative to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic. In her initiative, she
mentioned the intervention of increasing physical activity to change this epidemic (Obama, 2010).
In fact, Healthy People 2020 has objectives to increase the portion of the America s private and
public schools that require daily physical education U.S. Department of Health and Human

Professor Eboni Green Health Policy May 3, 2016 Unit 9 Assignment: Understanding Clintons
Health Plan In this paper I will provide my understanding on why I feel Clinton s Health Plan
was unsuccessful. I will discuss the features of Clinton s health care reform plan and provide my
reasons I feel it failed. I will also discuss the influences of the various interests groups and
governmental entities that were present during this process. Lastly I will discuss the policy
process and policy environment key players that were involved and the other circumstances that
shaped this policy making effort. When President Clinton was elected in 1992 he was given the
task to design a health care reform proposal that provided health care benefits for all Americans.
When Clinton was elected the country was suffering from setbacks in the realm of healthcare
polices from the previous president. With congress being one of the key players they started to
develop plans that would provide universal health coverage ideas with: physicians, large businesses,
lawmakers, and many interest groups. When all this started to occur Clinton felt that the majority
of the public who were in favor of healthcare reform, he made healthcare a primary weapon in his
election campaigns. With him winning the presidential election the issue of healthcare reform came

Disney s Folly
If you are looking for ways to make money, try thinking of something that you can offer to a niche
market which has not been offered before. One major problem in the world of Internet marketing is
that people are afraid to stand out and go against the grain. The truth is that most online business
websites look like one another.
Way back during the dot come boom, coming up with the next cutting edge solution was the
ultimate goal, and the actual business was secondary. The person who was most creative was the
person who would make the most money. In fact, even an amazingly novel idea was worth
millions, or even billions. Do you think I am being far fetched with this assertion? If so, visit your

Similar to Facebook and Twitter, he was ridiculed in his early years. In fact, many business
geniuses are ridiculed prior to demonstrated success. For instance, the press doubted that
Disneyland had a chance of survival, and referred to it as Disney s Folly . Funny huh? I wonder
who got the last laugh.
Just know that if you have an idea which goes against conventional thinking, expect people to put
that idea down. Just think back to the year 1996. You are excited because you have determined
that you are going to develop an online business in which you will give everything away for free.
What do you think would happen if you were to have shared this concept with your friends or
family? They would probably have given you their movie money and thanked you for the comedy.
The funny thing is that a company did actually develop on Internet business which was based on
giving away everything for free. This company is called Hotmail, and they gave their e mail
platform away for free at a time where everyone else was requiring either payment, or some sort of
work or scholastic affiliation. Hotmail was first, and Hotmail was, and still is

rewarding courses have been Pre Calculus and AP United States History 1. I have always been in
the highest math level offered, but math never seemed to be my greatest subject. I found myself

Although this is a controversial novel due to the fact that it contains a number of graphic scenes,
I believe that it puts out a very important message. Throughout this novel, the main character,
Lisbeth Salander, represents an abuse victim who has experienced great tragedy. I appreciate the
fact that the author wrote about an abuse victim and educated the general public on the fact that
women do get abused and sexually mistreated, and that it happens more often than many of us
would like to think. It is important for influential sources, such as novels who reach a large
audience, to discuss themes that are sometimes overlooked. The more people understand that
abuse does occur, and frequently, the larger the awareness will become regarding the situation
and abuse victims. This novel also has an aspect of feminism at times. Larsson created a woman
who had been through so much and showed that not only was she was able to take control of
many aspects of her life, but, she was also able to overcome a multitude of negative relationships.
It is very empowering for a woman to read about another woman standing up for herself and
coming out the winner. This book portrays the main character as a strong female, which I find to
be very beneficial in positively influencing a woman s opinion of herself and her

Ban government from using face recognition and other biometric technologies.
Sounds good, but it won t work. For one thing, the spycams are already here and Congress is
highly unlikely to pass a law forcing every city in the country to take down their cameras.
What s more, the ban everything approach ignores the technologies plain benefits. Any woman
who s had to walk through a deserted parking garage to her car knows why many people might
welcome cameras.
With many advances ahead, computer linked surveillance cameras can already identify crimes as
they occur, reduce false arrests and convictions and provide much better evidence than notoriously
unreliable witness testimony. Linked to biometric databases, the cameras can help prevent fraud,
find a lost child, and keep terrorists out of airports and pedophiles out of schools.
The logic here is specious just because the spycams are already here does not mean that they aren t
going away. Police surveillance cameras were installed in Times Square in the late 1960s, but
were taken down because they were judged to be cost ineffective: in 22 months of operation, they
led to the arrest of only 10 people, all for minor infractions.

Information literacy requires a learner to identify, understand, and evaluate the strengths and
weaknesses of each source before they can use it. This statement is absolutely true, because a
student of higher education must be able to read through articles and papers and be able to see
the strength and weakness of a particular paper and be able to analyze the information to see how
this either applies to what they are looking for or be able to identify if it does not. Scholarly

Ken Orr Case Study
Requirements are often the most misunderstood part of system development. But it is an absolutely
critical function. (Robertson 208). In regards to the first statement, I believe Ken Orr meant that
from the view point of project leaders understanding how to implement requirements may be
misunderstood. Recall, that requirements are obtained from other stake holders. Through this
communication, meaning can naturedly be misinterpreted. Also, projectleaders often do not have a
technical understanding of the project they are developing, therefore not understanding
implementation of a require can occur because of this too. That is why, project manager must
communicate with other stakeholders to understand requirements and the project they are
developing. Lastly, what is a requirement can also be misunderstood by stakeholders that a project
manager is working with. This misunderstanding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recall, requirements are critical function to a project because tell managers what the project must
do. Without these instructions, one can not know for certain the processes a project must include.
Furthermore, requirements also act can act as a guide for development. This is because
requirements can outline a sequence of events in a project.
Lastly, a project can consist of several requirements. Due to time and budget some requirements
may be more essential than others. Recall, there are two types of requirements Functional and Non
functional. Based on the reading, Functional requirements are described as something that a project
accomplish (Robertson 306). On the other hand, a non functional project is an attribute that a
project has (Robertson 306). Therefore, the criteria I would used to prioritize requirements is
complete all functional requirements first, followed by non functional requirements that improve or

Downsizing Healthcare
Downsizing Medical Care in the United States
Mary Carnahan
HA 303: Public Policy in Health Care
August 5, 2015
Introduction For one reason or another hospitals are closing their doors. In this paper we will look
at how the downsizing of hospitals is affecting medical care in the United States. Why have some
of these hospitals closed?
High Point Community Hospital Closing I personally haven t seen or heard of any hospitals
closing down in my area recently but I do remember back in 1985 High Point Community
Hospital, now High Point Regional (since 1996) closed their doors only to move next door to the
new hospital which offered 351 private beds, in 1985 the hospital had only had 100 private beds.

In my community High Point Regional went from a hospital with room for 12 patients and
employed four nurses and a housekeeper. The cost of a week s hospitalization was between $10
and $15 (High Point Regional 2015), in 1904 to 351 private beds for medical and surgical patients
serving over 120,000 patients each year, and 15 operating rooms. So I think in this case High Point
Regional is growing with the community.
Is Downsizing of Hospitals Affecting Medical Care in the United States? I also think a lot of
these community hospitals are downsizing and/ or closing is because with the new technologies
coming across the board, the smaller hospitals cannot afford the upgrades like the hospitals in
the big cities. Case in point, I use to live in Pennsylvania and in the county I lived in there are a
lot of very small towns. The hospital that was in our town Spangler Memorial was what everyone

Children s Rights And Rights
7.7Right of the children:
7.7.1Personal life:
Children s rights recognize fundamental guarantees to all human beings: the right to life, the non
discrimination principle, the right to dignity through the protection of physical and mental integrity
(protection against slavery, torture and bad treatments, etc.)Children s rights are civil and political
rights, such as the right to identity, the right to a nationality, etc.Children s rights are economic,
social and cultural rights, such as the right to education, the right to a decent standard of living, the
right to health, Children s rights include individual rights, the right to live with his parents, the right
to education, the right to benefit from a protection, Children s rights include collective rights :
rights of refugee and disabled children s, of minority children or from marginalized groups. For the
world to continue we need this population to survive and attain their rights which are also human
rights. One of the many roles of nurses is an advocate, we should strive to ensure that all right for
children s has been offered and no discrimination of any type.
7.7.2Social context:
Children s rights consider the vulnerable character of the child. They imply the necessity to protect
them. It means to grant a particular assistance to them, and to give a protection adapted to their age
and to their degree of maturity.
So, the children have to be helped and supported and must be protected against labor exploitation,

Gandhi s Journey Of Non Violence
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi often referred to as Bapu was born on October 2, 1869. He was
brought up in a middle class family where his father, Karamchand was chief minister of
Porbandar where Gandhi was born as well. Gandhi was highly influenced from his mother,
Putlibai who would fast on daily basis, which explains why Gandhi believed in fasting as well.
He grew up around having Muslim and Christian friends. At the age of 13, he had an arranged
marriage with Kasturba and later had four sons with. Although Gandhi s father wanted him to
become a government minister, Gandhi was more interested in becoming a doctor. In fact, he went
to study law abroad in London. Though all the struggles trying to adapt the western culture, he
later became an attorney of law. The film Gandhi shows different religious beliefs of Hindus,
Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians as well as Gandhi s journey of non violence. As it starts out Gandhi
being thrown out of the train on the way to South Africa, which shows discrimination towards
Hindus for the first time in the film. After the arrival in South Africa, he gets in touch with other
Hindu workers where they decide to burn off the British government documents that each
individual was given. Although, Gandhi was kept on being hit with such cruelty, he didn t give
up. The cruel behavior of British soldiers eventually opened his eyes and led him to make peace

Casino Legislation Impacts The Local And State Economy
Casino legislation impacts the local and state economy. How it affects the economy fluctuates
depending on surrounding circumstances. These circumstances include location and who owns the
casino. A local casino will result in changes in Government revenue, public services, and
surrounding businesses. Casinos bring a local economy a new tax source and new jobs but it is
crucial to look further to see if casinos boost the local economy. In one article the writers statethe
benefits of the new casinoincluding new jobs and investment. Felsentein, Littlepage, Klacik (2000)
then explain that many casino jobs however require some specific training. This means many
employees commute to work. Also some of local casino employees leave previous jobs in
community to come work in the casino. The casino is not creating for the local economy if
workers are commuting or leaving old jobs (Felsentein, Littlepage, Klacik, 2000)
Where a casino is located is critical to how it affects the economy. A typical local casino does not
bring money to the area like Las Vegas or Atlantic City does. This is because most gamblers in
these two areas are tourist. Tourists bring money to an economy. In many local casinos the
gamblers live in the same city as the casino. When this is the case, gamblers are not bringing
money to the economy; they are transferring money that was already in the local economy. In an
article written in 2002, the Detroit Free Press stated casinos were responsible for draining

White Sands Missile Range Research Paper
There are six national ranges in the United States that support missile development for the military

Mexico. Each year scientists and researchers launch and test approximately 900 missiles from this

The Grapes Of Wrath And Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway
The mid twentieth century represents a turbulent period of history in the western world from the
devastating effects of the Great Depression that began in 1929 to the bloodshed of World War II,
people were forced to adapt to unfamiliar and changing circumstances. The effects of these events
were especially felt in the United States and Britain, and the two countries set the scene for John
Steinbecks The Grapes of Wrathand Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway. The Grapes of Wrath
recounts the tale of the Joad family, farm owners who, after being forced off their land by big
business, head west to California in search of work only to find discrimination and further
hardship. Their story exemplifies the struggles faced by low income families unequipped to deal
with the changing reality of the American economy and reveals the nature of big business and
unregulated capitalism. At first glance, it seems that Mrs. Dalloway tells a very different story.
Clarissa Dalloway, a wealthy London woman, is spending her day planning one of her extravagant
parties. Although its characters are not struggling to find their next meal, through a stream of
consciousness style and an array of unique and complex characters the novel tackles many of the
same problems seen in The Grapes of Wrath. As these two nations face and recover from their
respective crises, Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath and Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway highlight the
changing ways in which the American and British people interact with

Kingdom Of Heaven Research Paper
The Unrevealed Truth
In this essay I will be summarizing the myths to the truths, of the movie Kingdom of Heaven to
the real life history facts. Therefore Hollywood changed the facts to myths. I will be focusing
on the longbow creation, relationships, and killing Arabs. In the movie Kingdom of Heaven, the
longbow was used in the time of the movie. Unfortunately the longbow was really invented
around 1180 C.E.. Created by the Celts in Wales. Which the longbow was not really used by the
English military until the 1300s. A longbow is a an incredibly strong piece of wood roughly 6
feet tall and 5/8 inch wide. The longbow started becoming a great, well known weapon. The
Hundred Years War was where the longbow really showed its strength. In some of the war s most
decisive battles the longbow was the weapon that turned the tides. One memorable example: The
Battle of Crecy War.
Relationships in the movie Kingdom of Heaven was not one hundred percent accurate. There is
actually no given proof or records of any romance between Sibylla, (Balian alleged wife in the
movie) and Balian. But really, Sibylla and Baldwin, Balian brother, had love interest between each
other. Sibylla was the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Globalisation
Edward Said states, No one today is purely one thing. Labels like Indian, or woman, or Muslim, or
American are no more than starting points. Said s idea illustrates the evolution of relations between
communities as a result of globalization, and the understanding and recognition of other cultures
through the interpretation of cultural borders.
In this essay I will analyse to what extent globalisation is affecting identity formation, and also the
roles of cultural borders in today s world. I will assess whether through globalisation of the media
we are in fact overcoming cultural borders and traditional stereotypes and in turn forging a mutual

Archival accounts of the continuous race hatred directed against coloured people in Australia
...reveal the sexual and other preoccupations that occupied those white minds from which such
fantasies emanated (p. 43)
Australians wanted little to do with Asia, and besides those who wanted to expand the Western
Sphere of influence in the region (Rizvi 1996, p.175), few Australians traveled to Asia. Asian
people were essentially defined by their race, and by their embodiment of not being European.
It is with these historical perceptions in mind that Said s statement holds extreme worth. Said could
be seen as acknowledging past stereotypical labels enforced on Asian people, and dismissing these
labels in today s world, implying that something has changed to make these labels no more than
starting points . Relating this to Australia/Asia, we note that Australians previously judged Asians
purely and solely on racial grounds: Race became a key explanatory factor not only in academic
anthropology, but more importantly in the popular imagination of Australians. (Rizvi 1996, p. 175).
Cultural confusion and an unwillingness to appreciate local customs and values gave birth to a
contempt for local culture. Local people were simply seen as other , and non European people
needed to be tamed or civilised, made normal (Rizvi 1996, p.175).

The Time Of The Emergency
Chapter 1. Introduction ...nobody ever forgot anything, not really, though sometimes they
pretended, when it suited them. Memories were permanent. Sorrowful ones remained sad even
with the passing of time; yet happy ones could never be recreated not with the same joy.
Remembering bred its own peculiar sorrow. It seemed so unfair: that time should render both
sadness and happiness into a source of pain. Introduction The book is set in the 1970s, a time of
economic and political upheaval. The time of the Emergency, which sets the atmosphere for the
stories of Dina Dalal, Ishwar and Omprakash Darji and Maneck Kohlah. It is a book about the

Rohinton Mistry makes the book all about the characters so the reader feels like a silent

as each one suffers pain, humiliation and loss. The Prologue opens with the meeting of Ishwar

Maneck, a sheltered boy from the hills who left home to study. They come across each other on

delegates should take note of the European Commission s role in the EU, as the institution
responsible for proposing legislation, implementing decisions, upholding the EU treaties and
managing the day to day business of the EU. For the sake of this simulation, the duties of the
European Council President and the President of the European Commission will be performed by

states, which have the largest stake in the aftermath of Brexit as determined by the dais, are:
Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the
Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden. The United Kingdom, or UK, will not be in

Essay about The Italian Immigrants of Post-1880
Between 1880 and 1920 more than 4.1 million Italians were recorded as entering the United States
(Daniels, p. 188). The Italian immigrants of post 1880 were different from other immigrant groups
by these topics of religion, labor, family orientation, politics, and education. The 1880s brought a
change not only in the amount of Italian immigrants but also the characteristic of them as a group.
This group of immigrants was incredibly male dominated, in comparison to the other immigrants of
this time, most settling in New York and Chicago. The living conditions that these Italians
encountered were not pleasant. It was common for them to live in very crowded four bedroom
apartments. Compared to other immigrants, they had one of the worsts... Show more content on

The padrone system faded out as family networks grew. The relationships of their family were
essentially the only connection they had. They did not rely on politics or get involved in public
office. They tended to only associate with family or fellow Italians in the area. For this reason,
mafias emerged in America because of the strong devotion to family and eventually family
business. The Italians were mostly Catholic with the belief that priests were agents of the pope
and bishops (Daniels, p. 197). As more Italians arrived, they began to form distinct enclaves in
neighborhoods first settled by earlier immigrants. Interestingly the issue of diet among immigrant
workers received attention during this time. Italian Laborers, Padrones, and Pernicious Pasta
reads, In the process, Italian foods were redefined as a problem for the fitness, health, and future
prosperity of the Italian worker and therefore a threat to workplace efficiency and productivity
(Slideshow 7: Additional Links). The padrone system became concerned with the foods their
workers ate because it could affect the way they worked and essentially the way the padroni was
paid. In 1890, Jacob Riis, a Danish immigrant and police reporter published How the Other Half
Lives where he wrote about a mixed impression from the Italian immigrants in New York City. In

Compare And Contrast The Legal Position Of A Formal Hospital
Compare and contrast the legal position of a formal and informal hospital patient suffering from
mental disorder. About 90% of those admitted to psychiatric facilities in England and Wales are
admitted informally [1]. The grounds for this are found in section 131 (1) of the Mental health Act
1983 nothing in the act shall be construed as preventing a patient who requires treatment for
mental disorder from being admitted to any hospital regardless of whether the correct procedure
has been followed (i.e. recommendations from ASW). The definition of mental disorder is laid out
in section 1 of the act. The legal position of a formally confined patient is much easier to define as
their confinement is by definition formal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Persons held under section 136 can only be detained for 72 hours, this is to enable them to be
examined by a registered medical professional and an ASW. Arrangements can then be made for the
patients care or treatment. Mental capacity is another important difference between formal and
informal patients with regards to consenting to treatment. Providing the patient is mentally
competent, they are in a much stronger position to refuse treatment as an informal patient. Again,
however, it has been observed that patients feel coerced into consenting to treatment. Until the
MCA[10] came into force this year there was very little procedural protection afforded to those
patients admitted informally and found to be mentally incompetent. Treatment could be forced
upon patients in this situation on the basis of the doctors view of the patients best interests[11].
Within the category of informally admitted patients we see different issues arising with regards
specific groups. Women, for example, and more specifically white women, represent one and a half
times more admissions then men[12] a considerably higher proportion of patients then their
percentage of society. Some may argue that this is due to the enduring misogyny of society, seeing
women acquiesce to informal admission, rather then being the active party in the decision that
hospitalisation is indeed their best option. Others would view this percentage difference as a result
of the fact that women

Black Robes By Moki Summary
In the story, Moki had two visions. The visions had shown him two ways to live. The first with
seeds for tomorrow was a way of sharing. The second was not a way of sharing at all (Burnes).
The vision of sharing had actually happened in real life and in the story itself. The second vision
was present, but did not happen in the end. The Hopi realized that they are able to share the land
and the valley, so they relocate on the top of the mesa. Throughout the short story, Moki s visions
represented something that happened in real life.
In the beginning, the Spanish missionaries, also known as the Black Robes, were resented by the
Hopi, or the People. The People strongly disliked the idea that Spanish settlers and governor took

outlawed the garden seeds in order to reject their new ways. Like the story itself, this was true.
The People had rejected new influences in order to continue their regular cultural lives. The
peace was not settled, so Pope drove out the Spanish settlers in the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. Many
lives were lost on both sides; fields were destroyed; churches and homes were razed. This was
like Moki s second vision; not sharing the seeds. After peace was restored between the two sides,
the People tried to return to their old religious customs, but their old way of life could not be
attained. The People eventually moved atop the mesa where they live today. Like in the story and
in real life, the People finally decided to move out of the Spanishs way. Archaeological findings

Quality Deer Management In North America
Quality Deer Management
There is no other big game animal in North America like the white tailed deer. The whitetails
habitat is so widespread that it covers just about all of North America and parts of Central America.
The white tailed deer is the most commonly hunted big game animal ever. Before the settlers
arrived, an estimated 30 million whitetails inhabited what is now the United States and Canada. But
as settlers pursued them for food and market hunters slaughtered them with snares, traps, and set
guns, the deer population underwent a disastrous decline. By 1900, only 400,000 whitetails
remained.
What happened ever since 1900 has truly become a huge conservation success story.

One great naturalist and well known deer researcher, Aldo Leopold, once said, There is value in any
experience that exercises those ethical restraints collectively called sportsmanship. That quote sums
up why the concept of Quality Deer Management is becoming more and more popular in the
hunting community today. All over the continent deer hunters are welcoming a philosophy of deer
management unlike the traditional methods that they were used to in the past. However, while
some parts of North America are welcoming the idea with open arms, others seem to be dragging
their feet.
It is impossible to discuss deer at all without talking about deer management, because there is there
hardly a deer alive in America today that is not directly influenced by man. We control the water
the deer drinks, the food that it eats, and the land that it lives on, and we regulate the manner, sex,
and amount of deer harvested. The problem lies in the way we manage the deer herd. The time has
come to practice Quality Deer Management.
First of all some of you might be wondering exactly what is Quality Deer Management. Well the
best way to describe it is by stating its goals. Brian Murphy, executive director of the Quality Deer
Management Association, used this definition, Quality Deer Management can be defined as a
management philosophy/practice that unites landowners, hunters, and biologists in the common

The Race into Space
Introduction:
As many people may know, the U.S.A. went to the moon first, but what they don t know is the
story behind the space race. So, I m going to tell you about it. For example, J.F.K. s speech. Also,
about just the space space race. Lastly, about who got there first and how. J.F.K. s Speech:
J.F.K. wanted to do something new while he was president, and in my opinion, that something new
was to go to the moon. Kennedy said his speech at Rice University because he wanted the young
peoples to tell their parents to help with the rocket payments and stuff like that. In my opinion, the
best part of his speech was when he said, ...not because they are easy, but because they are hard.
All About the Race:
The space race first started in the 1950 s. On November 3, 1957 Russia lanuches Sputnik 2, to
follow up on Sputnik 1. Inside the Sputnik 2 was a small dog named Laika, and she became the
first live animal in space. Unfortunatley, Laika did not survive. Then, on Jauary 2,1959 Russia s
Luna 1 is the very first space craft to go towards the moon, but unfortunatly goes past the moon
and goes into orbit of the sun between Mars and our planet Earth. In the 60 s more stuff happened.
I m not going to say EVERYTHING that happened in the sixties but I will tell you one super

Impressions of Egypt and Rome in First Two Scenes of Antony and Cleopatra In the first two

language used by the characters in the play. Although the contrast between the two countries is

of the Romans in the Egyptian environment. Egypt is predominantly presented to us as a liberal,
hedonistic society, where precedence is given to banquets and pleasure seeking, and it is full of
female characteristics. On the other hand, Rome is an extremely masculine, military based society.

The Soothsayer in the scene implies that Charmian is extremely amorous, If every of your

males, Iras and Charmian predict that Alexas with become, Fiftyfold a cuckold. Charmian
declares that she, Loves long life better than figs, and the implications here show that she would
rather enjoy her own life than waste it on a man. Iras also suggests that, if she were to have an
inch of better fortune, she would choose it, Not in my husband s nose, but rather in a more
intimate region. These extremely open discussions of sexuality add to the impression of the laid
back hedonism that is displayed to us in Egypt. Although Cleopatra speaks to Antony in verse, her
attendants in scene two speak wholly in prose. This allows them to have much greater freedom in
their language, and removes any boundaries, thus making the conversation natural and gossip like.
It also differentiates between the Queen and her subjects. The presence of the Soothsayer
highlights the cultural differences between Egypt and Rome; it adds a feeling of the supernatural,

To The Lighthous Feminism By Virginia Woolf
Prior to the 19th century women were regarded intellectually and physically inadequate.
According to that believe, society was divided into two spheres: a domestic and a public sphere.
The domestic or private sphere indicates that women should stay at home; they were not allowed
to work or to learn. Besides that, part of their job is to prepare the next generation or carry on the
same way of life. On the other hand, the public sphere indicated that men are strong mentally and
physically. They were the doers, creators, heroes and the discoverers. That formula of dividing the
world into two was against human nature which led to the emergence of several feminists groups

Class and hierarchy brings order into the social system. Rules, regulations and order provide
structure to the society. Without structure and order, chaos will reign and all will be lost. In
order to prevent such disaster, strict discipline must be implemented. In the history of
civilization, the Jews have been oppressed by many all the way back to Ancient Egypt 3,200

Analysis Of Emerson s Self-Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson
In the mid nineteenth century, Ralph Waldo Emerson led a movement to spread the idea of
Transcendentalism through one of his famous essay, Self Reliance , to advocate how an
individual can achieve success and happiness. In order to achieve one s fullest potential, one must
resisted and rise above the temptation of materials of the physical world and start using one s
intuition. Emerson looks at the contemporary society as a corrupted for a soul to inhabit because of
its dependence to the technology, intolerable cultural ideas, and economic issues. One issue that
Emerson disapproved of is the society s reliance on technology. In the modern days, young teens
and also adults are too attached to their cell phone. According to Emerson, he... Show more content

Another flaw that Emerson sees the in in the society is the economic issues. Most people
believe that the best way to satisfy their need is having a lot of money. However, Emerson s
view on this matter is different. From his essay, Self Reliance , it stated, nothing can bring u
peace but yourself (Emerson, 21). In order to get rich, a person must work very hard to pile up
his pocket. However, with the amount of the work, he will not have a chance to enjoy his
money. Also , even though he has chance to use his money, he can buy all the stuff he wants, but
he will never be satisfied. With the huge load amount of work dedicated to the work, he will lose
connection with his family and his friends. As the result, instead of becoming happy, he receive
the opposite as his reward for replacing his family with work. One of cultural problem that the
society have is there are lot of conformists. Nowaday, young adolescents tend mimic other people,
such as their favorite athletes or celebrities because they want to fit in with other people.
According to Emerson, he stated, There is a time in every man s education when he arrives at the
conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; (2,Emerson). The words suicide and
ignorance illustrate his negative connotation to emulating. When a person is trying to to be
someone else that is he is not, he is deceiving himself and belittle his own value. Also when he
chooses copy another person s

The Role Of Prostitution In Germany And Canada
Prostitution is often viewed as problematic and blamed for disease and disorder in society; rarely
it is considered a work that generates income like any other profession. Stigma has been a particular
focus of prostitution laws, in part because policy responses have been premised on the same
stigmatic assumptions embedded in the social structure of criminal justice system. Although
Germany and Canada have developed different policies and ideologies in the context of abolitionist
and regulated system of prostitution, they share the key distinction of a broader systemic problem
that have not erased the underlying stigmas.
The purpose of this study is to obtain a better understanding of how and why criminal laws, and the

The Need to Renewable Sources of Energy
1.1 INTRODUCTION Energy is vital for human survival and development. Most of today s
energy comes fossil fuels and Biomass. However these types of fuels are deplitable and emit
green house gases e.g. CO2which leads to global warming. (See Fig 1.1).On the other hand,
renewable energy is inexhaustible and does not any produce green house gases that can pollute
the environment. Therefore there is need to shift to renewable sources of energy. Figure 1.1: A
graph showing energy consumption and development between 1965 and 2010 (https:/
/www.google.com). For example, in Kenya here is a large geographical imbalance in electricity
demand and supply. For instance electrification rates ranges from 15 20% nationally and at rural
it ranges from 5 10%. Electricity only accounts for 10% of the total final energy consumption.
60% of all electricity is consumed by commercial and industrial sectors. Only 24% is consumed
by households. The demand is rapidly increasing and there is need to incorporate renewable
energy in the energy sector in order to make Vision 2030 a reality. Renewable energy is the energy
that comes from sources that are continually replenished. This include: solar energy, wind energy,
hydropower, ocean energy, geothermal energy. One of the promising renewable sources of energy
is solar energy. Solar renewable energy has many advantages and these include: Plenty of resource:
The sunlight reaching the Earth s surface is abundant approximately 8000 (120000 TW/Hr) times

A Genuineness in Humans
Individuals like the feeling that they belong. Sometimes people believe they are alone in the
world and no one else faces similar issues. Susan Morgan starts her literacy criticism by talking
about Elizabeth Bennet s character. She mentions that Elizabeth is flawed which is why she is
well liked by readers. Her flaws show the genuineness of her character and allow readers to make
a connection to her. The connection is easily made because the way that Austen created Elizabeth
made her appear to be a real person. Elizabeth is often boldly rude and disrespectful, yet at the
same time she is self confident and an independent young woman. Rather than a perfect character
in a perfect world, Elizabeth is realistic as she is an imperfect... Show more content on

Elizabeth puts up a front to protect herself from Darcy whom she believes is inferior, a man of
sense and education who has lived in the world, and is ill qualified to recommend himself to
strangers (Morgan 56). Elizabeth s mistake of impertinence toward Darcy is forgiven. Elizabeth
s mistakes are not based on a rejection of society even though it is quite true that they are related
to her sense of personal freedom. What we are to understand by that freedom is not the right to
do and say whatever she wants in defiance of social conventions. Rather, it is a freedom from
becoming involved (Morgan 57). Elizabeth does not want to make a commitment or become
involved with anyone, which is one reason she judges Darcy harshly and attempts to push him
away. Even when Elizabeth seems to be attracted to Wickham, she really is not. Elizabeth s heart
is not engaged by Mr. Wickham, her understanding is. Her opinion of him is based on her belief in
her own discernment and her separation through intelligence from an essentially ugly world
(Morgan 57). Elizabeth observes society closely and understands that the world is an ugly place,
making her understanding of Wickham s character even as she does not know anytthing about him.
She deceives herself in thinking she likes him, but lacks serious feelings for him as she likes the
idea of him, but not the commitment she would need to make to him. It seems that

Architecture Of The Parthenon
Located in Athens, Greece; The Parthenon was built from 447 BC to 432 BC. The temple served
two main purposes: First, It was built in dedication to the goddess of Athena, which held the
Statue of Athena. People believed that she helped the Greeks conquer the Persian Empire in the
Persian Wars as well as watched over them and the city. Second, it was a branch of the state
treasury at the time it was built. Under the supervision of the sculptor Phidias, two architects were
given the credit in the design of The Parthenon. The architects were Iktinus and Kallicrates.
Phidias was a very distinguished sculptor and architect at the time when the Parthenon was being
built, he oversaw all of the art and sculptures that were going in the Parthenon. While Iktinos and
Kallikrates oversaw the structural aspect. The Parthenon was a creation of a free democracy,
initiated, controlled, and approved by popular assembly and its judicial organs (Bruno 111) The
Parthenon itself had replaced an older temple of Athena that had been destroyed by the Persians in
480BC. After the invasion of Greece, multiple city states came in agreement to create a military
called the Delian League. Vast amounts of resources, including warships, were donated by the city
states. Thus the construction of the Parthenon began in 447 BC. The Parthenon measures 101 feet
by 228 feet and stands approximately 30 meters tall. Utilizing limestone rock for the foundation and
Pentelic marble was used to make the columns,

Essay On Teacher Community Assistant
Evaluating the Teacher Community Assistant Initiative in Ghana
Over the last decade, millions more children in developing countries have gained access to primary
school education. Despite this achievement, a large number of children enrolled in their first years
of school are still not learning how to read, write, or do basic math. Building on previous research,
researchers in this study evaluated the impact of several targeted instruction programs on the
learning outcomes of primary school students in Ghana s public schools. Researchers found
significant improvements in numeracy and literacy on average, with regional variations. Of four

Despite the obvious need for improvements to the education system, the Ghana government is
already investing a large portion of its budget into schools. Ghana spends approximately 30 percent
of its budget on education, with 99 percent of Ghana s contributions going toward salaries. There
is, therefore, a great need for cost effective strategies to improve students learning levels in Ghana.
Details of the Intervention
IPA partnered with Ghana Education Services, Ghana National Association of Teachers, and the
National Youth Employment Program, to develop and evaluate the Teacher Community Assistant
Initiative (TCAI).
The initiative recruited teaching assistants from high school graduates in local communities and
placed them into government primary schools across Ghana. Because the gap in academic
performance between the strongest and weakest pupils grows from first to third grade, the initiative
focused on pupils in grades 1 3 in government schools.
The first phase of TCAI tested four different programs, reaching 25,000 pupils. Five hundred
schools across 42 districts, chosen to be nationally representative, were randomly assigned to one
of five groups:
In school remedial TCAs: Teacher community assistants taught remedial classes during school
hours, with a focus on basic literacy and numeracy skills. The remedial sessions were targeted to
the weakest pupils in first through third grades. (100 schools)
After school remedial TCAs: Teacher

Why Nursing Home
What would I want from a nursing home if I were to become a resident? To begin with, I realize
that nursing homes work within clearly set boundaries of law and standards of medical practices;
Therefore they are only so flexible with the patients, doing their best most times to make sure that
everyone is treated fairly by following required guidelines. Even at that, once in a while, there are
instants where things do not go as planned and some residents get abused. Mainly because the
people that work in close collaboration with the residentsare not always a good fit for the position;
Reason being some are underpaid and just don t care about the patients or their jobs, some others
are just mean and should not be allowed to work with such a vulnerable population. In any case, I

War Of The Worlds Analysis
The War of the Worlds (1953) is science fiction, but shot in pseudo documentary style using real
military footage interlaced with the Martian invasion force that is destroying all the majors cites
around the world. The display of the uniquely, non saucer shapes of the strange Martian ships on
the rampage, alarming news broadcast, and images of panic stricken public fleeing for very lives,
only adds to the desperate battle for humanity on a global scale, and a sense of utter realism and
terror. Every shot is conveying a message and emotion, even at the end of the film, the doom laden
finale in a disintegrating church, all very efficiently handled by director Byron Haskin (Schneider
58), implies that all hope is lost, the end of the world is at hand, and hundreds seek refuge in
churches, praying for a miracle to save them, and as faith would have it, one comes.
Byron Haskin (1899 1984), an American film and television director, is best remembered for
directing The War of the Worlds, is no stranger at directing science fiction, adventurous, and

Symbols In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
The house is alive. It possesses its own malign will. (Bailey) A house can hold a slew of
symbolic meanings. It may represent an ancient family line and it may also be a physical
structure. Usually, it s referred to as a habitable place, warm, safe and comforting. Home, sweet,
home. Yet, there are times in which, home, is not habitable, warm, safe or comforting. This is just
the case of Roderick Usher. Edgar Allen Poe writes Usher as the victim in, what would be
considered in modern times, a haunted house story. The Fall of the House of Ushercan theoretically
be consider the original haunted house story. What is a house is haunted, especially what is the
meaning of this in The Fall of the House of Usher?(Usher) Essentially, a haunted house is one
that scares, meaning the house itself scares. The Fall of the House of Usher, demonstrates the
importance of setting to gothic literature through establishing mood, location and situation,
exposing the reader and creating vivid mental pictures of the story s world. When a literary
piece establishes setting, mood, plays an important role in describing the situation in which a
reader is mentally placed. In gothic literature, like, Usher, mood is responsible for conveying the
feeling of dread. During the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year,
when the clouds hung oppressively low in the heavens. (293, line 1 3) Poe s first line of Usher is
used to unsettle the reader by simply describing the day as dark

Multicultural Communities and Multi-Faith Practices
In the past decade, Ireland became an increasing multicultural community from different
nationalities accompanying multi faith practices.[1] Despite the acknowledgment of the fact that
diversity of race, religion, language, and cultural background between people is crucial in the
healthcare environment, it is more important to develop cultural competency in hospitals to ensure
high quality health care service exclusive of inequalities and responsive to the requirements of the

consideration and recommends some solutions to tackle this problem. We have chosen this topic in
specific to explore on the role of religious beliefs in the medical decision making, and the
importance of caregivers not to assume homogeneity among their patients since religious beliefs is
considered as an integral component of a patient s holistic healthcare.[1] The aim of this report to
identify some strategies of good practice regarding faith and spirituality in a healthcare context to
ensure quality and equality of care provided by healthcare workers in Ireland. Intercultural

  • 2. Water Rights Simulation Water right transfers are one of the basic means of implementing changes in water use in hugely allocated water resource organizations in the western side of the United States of America. These systems are overlooked by the Prior Appropriation Doctrine, which was not formally intended for application to ground water pumping and the conjunctive management of groundwater and surface water, hence creating an administrative challenge. The challenge results from the fact that ground water pumping can affect all interconnected surface water bodies and the effects may be immeasurably small relative to surface water discharge and greatly attenuated in time. Although we may possess the ability to calculate the effects of ground water pumping ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the last decades aquifers have increasingly been prone to pollution, which is remarkably problematic as the volume of aquifers to recover is often very restricted. Also the rate at which global groundwater stocks are depleted has more than doubled between 1960 and 2000 this knowledge was documented by Kerstin Mechlem (as cited in Bierkens et al. , 2011). Over thirty million people depend on private aquifer wells as their source of drinking water, spoken about by Schmalzired and Keil (as cited in Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2006). A land that clearly demonstrates how water rights can be abused is Texas. Texas is legendary for its long standing dedication to the common law rule of gaining control, allowing landowners to keep as much groundwater as they can pump without liability to nearby landowners whose supplies are drained.Texas has recently taken this property scheme a step further in Edwards Aquifer Authority v. Day, in which the state Supreme Court concluded that the common law provides Texas landowner s vested rights in groundwater while it is in place beneath their land, prior to capture. Despite the fact that the conclusion has been greatly criticized for expected deleterious effects on groundwater management, there is an argument that states that the state supreme court provided a path that is more ... • 3. Summary Of The Power And The Glory Myths Of American... The Power and the Glory: Myths of American Exceptionalism by Howard Zinn brings light to American exceptionalism which is the perception that the United States differs from other countries. He starts off by providing an example of when this idea of exceptionalism started; using the phrase a city upon a hill creates an image of liberty and democracy in which others can look to as an example. This image is slandered when the morality of past actions such as the massacres of Native American villages throughout the country are brought into the picture. Conquering territory and the mistreatment of the occupants who choose to resist are constant throughout history. The justification that goes into expansion is seen as divinely ordained ; such ... For example, all the foods served and sold during the festival consist of Italian delicacies, and there are also Italian folk bands playing instruments and singing their folk songs. In addition to that, the music played can also be a personal attribute to someone that identified its owner. For example, it is said in the documentary that there was a time where a man used theme song from a movie called Rocky because he was once a boxer. Besides, there are no specific costumes for the spectators as it looks like the spectators from the documentary did not wear anything specific like masks to the festival. However, we can see that the brass band and all the men that carried the statue on their shoulder have to wear something similar. For example, the brass band wears red hats and white shirts, while the men wear white hats, shirts and shoes as a symbol of unity. • 6. The War Theory Of War What is War? The term war can be defined as a clash that arises between different groups, states or nations. Different ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, and scarce resources are just a few of many reasons why such an act of violence may be practiced throughout the world. However, could a war ever be completely just? And if so, who would be responsible for deeming what would and would not be considered as being morally and theologically justified? This will be discussed in further detail later on in this report. Premise The Just War Theory states that war can sometimes be permissible if it is satisfactorily evaluated by the tenets of the theory. I believe that in order for a war to be just , it must always be a result of an act of self defense against a more powerful and threatening opponent. I also believe that war should always be considered as being the very last resort in conflict due to its many resulting consequences. But in such circumstances, who (or what) would determine when war would be permissible? What is Just? The term just is difficult to perfectly define as it is ultimately based on one s own perspective. Different upbringings and backgrounds would influence one s idea of the term just. Therefore, only an individual who has absolutely no sense of bias would be able to carry out the task of determining when a war would be considered justified and permissible. However, nobody is ever bias free . Humans all come from upbringings that influence their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One major problem in the world of Internet marketing is that people are afraid to stand out and go against the grain. The truth is that most online business websites look like one another. Way back during the dot come boom, coming up with the next cutting edge solution was the ultimate goal, and the actual business was secondary. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this is a controversial novel due to the fact that it contains a number of graphic scenes, I believe that it puts out a very important message. Throughout this novel, the main character, Lisbeth Salander, represents an abuse victim who has experienced great tragedy. I appreciate the fact that the author wrote about an abuse victim and educated the general public on the fact that women do get abused and sexually mistreated, and that it happens more often than many of us would like to think. It is important for influential sources, such as novels who reach a large audience, to discuss themes that are sometimes overlooked. The more people understand that abuse does occur, and frequently, the larger the awareness will become regarding the situation and abuse victims. This novel also has an aspect of feminism at times. Larsson created a woman who had been through so much and showed that not only was she was able to take control of many aspects of her life, but, she was also able to overcome a multitude of negative relationships. It is very empowering for a woman to read about another woman standing up for herself and coming out the winner. Ban government from using face recognition and other biometric technologies. Sounds good, but it won t work. For one thing, the spycams are already here and Congress is highly unlikely to pass a law forcing every city in the country to take down their cameras. What s more, the ban everything approach ignores the technologies plain benefits. Any woman who s had to walk through a deserted parking garage to her car knows why many people might welcome cameras. With many advances ahead, computer linked surveillance cameras can already identify crimes as they occur, reduce false arrests and convictions and provide much better evidence than notoriously unreliable witness testimony. Linked to biometric databases, the cameras can help prevent fraud, find a lost child, and keep terrorists out of airports and pedophiles out of schools. The logic here is specious just because the spycams are already here does not mean that they aren t going away. Police surveillance cameras were installed in Times Square in the late 1960s, but were taken down because they were judged to be cost ineffective: in 22 months of operation, they led to the arrest of only 10 people, all for minor infractions. • 16. Ken Orr Case Study Requirements are often the most misunderstood part of system development. But it is an absolutely critical function. (Robertson 208). In regards to the first statement, I believe Ken Orr meant that from the view point of project leaders understanding how to implement requirements may be misunderstood. Recall, that requirements are obtained from other stake holders. Through this communication, meaning can naturedly be misinterpreted. Also, projectleaders often do not have a technical understanding of the project they are developing, therefore not understanding implementation of a require can occur because of this too. That is why, project manager must communicate with other stakeholders to understand requirements and the project they are developing. The Grapes Of Wrath And Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway The mid twentieth century represents a turbulent period of history in the western world from the devastating effects of the Great Depression that began in 1929 to the bloodshed of World War II, people were forced to adapt to unfamiliar and changing circumstances. The effects of these events were especially felt in the United States and Britain, and the two countries set the scene for John Steinbecks The Grapes of Wrathand Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway. The Grapes of Wrath recounts the tale of the Joad family, farm owners who, after being forced off their land by big business, head west to California in search of work only to find discrimination and further hardship. Their story exemplifies the struggles faced by low income families unequipped to deal with the changing reality of the American economy and reveals the nature of big business and unregulated capitalism. At first glance, it seems that Mrs. Dalloway tells a very different story. Clarissa Dalloway, a wealthy London woman, is spending her day planning one of her extravagant parties. Although its characters are not struggling to find their next meal, through a stream of consciousness style and an array of unique and complex characters the novel tackles many of the same problems seen in The Grapes of Wrath. As these two nations face and recover from their respective crises, Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath and Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway highlight the changing ways in which the American and British people interact with ... Arrangements can then be made for the patients care or treatment. Mental capacity is another important difference between formal and informal patients with regards to consenting to treatment. Providing the patient is mentally competent, they are in a much stronger position to refuse treatment as an informal patient. Again, however, it has been observed that patients feel coerced into consenting to treatment. Until the MCA[10] came into force this year there was very little procedural protection afforded to those patients admitted informally and found to be mentally incompetent. Treatment could be forced upon patients in this situation on the basis of the doctors view of the patients best interests[11]. Within the category of informally admitted patients we see different issues arising with regards specific groups. Women, for example, and more specifically white women, represent one and a half times more admissions then men[12] a considerably higher proportion of patients then their percentage of society. Some may argue that this is due to the enduring misogyny of society, seeing women acquiesce to informal admission, rather then being the active party in the decision that hospitalisation is indeed their best option. Impressions of Egypt and Rome in First Two Scenes of Antony and Cleopatra In the first two scenes of Antony and Cleopatra, we are introduced to Egypt and Rome through the images and language used by the characters in the play. Although the contrast between the two countries is emphasised, we are also shown the way in which the two cultures are often merged by the presence of the Romans in the Egyptian environment. Egypt is predominantly presented to us as a liberal, hedonistic society, where precedence is given to banquets and pleasure seeking, and it is full of female characteristics.
