Porter Airlines Case
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report provides a detailed strategic analysis of Porter Airlines. Information herein was gathered
from primary sources including an investor interview and Porter s IPO prospectus, as well as
secondary sources such as newspaper articles and opponent campaigns. Using all the information at
hand, an in depth analysis of the Porter Airlines current situation and strategy is presented.
TORONTO S REGIONAL AIRLINE
Porter Airlines has been able to successfully establish itself as Toronto s short haul carrier of choice by
providing superior service while maintaining a low breakeven load factor. Porter operates out of Billy
Bishop Toronto City Airport (BBTCA) located on an island in Toronto harbor. Prior to Porter s arrival,

Porter provides point to point transit to select cities throughout central and eastern Canada and the
north eastern U.S. The company s location is of great competitive advantage as it allows business
personnel to cut commute time spent on travelling from the airport to their office, or vice versa, in
downtown Toronto. The alternative to flying with Porter is to fly from Toronto Pearson International
Airport (YYZ), which during peak traffic, can be a multi hour commute from the downtown core.
Therefore, Porter s location is of significant strategic importance in terms of offering value to the
customer.
Porter Airlines is the subsidiary of Porter Aviation Holdings Inc. (formerly known as REGCO
Holdings), a privately held company that provides regional and commercial air transportation services,
hangars and office spaces. Moreover, it is supported by investors EdgeStone Capital Partners, OMERS

Symbolism In Frida Kahlo s Still Life
The final still lifes in the image archive are a group of drawings created by artist Jerry Winick. In all
three of these images, vintage tea sets are shown. Other items shown include a clock, family photos
(both framed and unframed), flowers, books, glasses, bowls, tongs, doilies, and a magnifying glass.
These drawings are rendered hyper realistically, with an exceptional level of detail. Winick appears to
have chosen these objects to create a nostalgic representation of his family. This is shown through not
only the inclusion of the vintage tea sets and other objects, but through the presence of photos which
presumably are shots of his family members. It appears that he has arranged a set of objects to
symbolize his family, thus creating a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have gathered a significant amount of evidence to pursue research on the purpose of still lifes. I think
this would be valuable to pursue, because to this day many people seem to undervalue the purpose of
still life art. At first glance, it may seem mundane, pointless, or meant solely to improve technical
skills, but there is much more involved in the subject matter.
Additionally, I think this research will benefit my body of work, since I enjoy creating still life
artwork for my portfolio.
(which is how vanitas symbols have been utilized).

Pros And Cons Of Partisan Emiliation
There is evidence in support of the idea that the parties have increasingly distinguished themselves
even on longstanding issues since the early 1970s, with an especially noticeable boost during the
Reagan years (Stoker Jennings, 2008, p. 629). Further support demonstrate that individuals do, indeed,
develop greater consistency between their partisan affiliation and their issue commitment as they age,
with the greatest gains usually coming in early adulthood (Stoker Jennings, 2008, p. 629). If this is
true, the Millenialls partisan affiliation is developing now. Over the past 30 to 40 years, growing
partisan polarization...has been driven by generational replacement as new entrants evinced greater

Corrosive Base Responses And Oxidationreduction Responses
Response science can be classified into two corrosive base responses and oxidationreduction
responses . A few scientific experts incorporate complexometric and precipitation responses while
others view these as Lewis corrosive base responses. A sensible exertion exhausted in comprehension
some principal responses of every sort can be very gainful. Obviously, the scientific expert will go

Domestic Violence Related Crime Throughout West Virginia
Domestic violence is a universal problem that can affect an individual of any age, gender, race,
education level, social class, or culture. This type of violence is considered to be one of the most
widespread public health crises in the United States (Black et al., 2011). The purpose of this essay is to
create a plan for a program that addresses domestic violence related crime in West Virginia. To begin,
significant information in relation to domestic violence will be provided. This will be followed by the
program plan, which will include seven steps: an analysis of the problem, identification of goals and
objectives, development of a program design, development of an action plan, development of a plan to

Although women can be perpetrators, they are more often the victims of abuse than men. According to
Blair, McFarlane, Nava, Gilroy, and Maddoux (2015), 92 percent of domestic violence offenders are
male (p. 23). Domestic violence perpetrators that become involved in the criminal justice system are
overwhelmingly male offenders between the ages of 18 and 35 years old. Data from studies conducted
in the United States have revealed that a significant amount of male abusers have had some type of
previous contact with the criminal justice system. It should be noted that this contact includes positive
and negative encounters. Since abusers come from all walks of life, they can be respected law abiding
members of their communities or unpopular individuals with a criminal history. There are no set
standards or explicit personality traits that wholly identify abusers. However, researchers have
identified certain indicators and risk factors that may predispose one to become an abuser (U.S.
Department of Justice, 2009).
One dominant attribute of domestic violence is the rate of recurrence for substance use or abuse in
domestic violence incidents. Researchers have determined that there is an extremely high correlation
between the use of these substances and domestic assaults. Research endorsed by the National
Institute of Justice has established that

Summary Of Lust, Caution
Born in 1920 and died of Arteriosclerosis cardiovascular disease in 1995, Chang had a legendary life.
Her grandmother was the daughter of a great politician and diplomat, Li Hung Chang in Qing
Dynasty. Living in a noble family did not lead Chang to a happy childhood, though. Chang s mother
left Chang and her younger brother when they were both young. Thereafter, Chang suffered from
domestic violence caused by her stepmother and drug addicted father. Nevertheless, such tragic life
did not stop Chang from being a talented and productive novelist. Lust, Caution has been written in
the 1950s. The female protagonist, Wang Chia chih is an amateur spy, who aims at seducing and
assassinating an official, Mr. Yee that works for Wang Ching wei s puppet ... Show more content on

After years of revision, the story has finally been published in 1983 by Crown publishing company in
Taiwan. It is believed that Chang was inspired by a historical incident happened between 1939 and
1940, when a female spy plotted to assassinate a secret agent that works for the puppet government.
The director of the film adaptation, Ang Lee makes a commentary on Chang and Lust, Caution that to
me, no writer has ever used the Chinese language as cruelly as Zhang Ailing (Eileen Chang), and no
story of hers is as beautiful or as cruel as Lust, Caution (Peng vii). If we examine the early life
experience of Eileen Chang, we can see her life has something in common with the protagonist in
Lust, Caution, Wang Chia Chih. For example, they were both from Shanghai, fled to Hong Kong at
the beginning of WWII, and went back to Shanghai after the Pacific War broke out (Zhang et al. 237).
In order to make Chang and Wang bear more resemblances, the film even adds a few plots to make the
kinship between Chang and Wang more evidently (Kuo 46). For example, Chang s father remarried
when she was a teenager, which left an unpleasant childhood for her and her younger

Human Cloning
Ethical Concerns on Human Cloning Human cloning, one of the most fascinating chapters in scientific
history. Cloning goes back to the first mammal that was successfully cloned, Dolly the sheep. Dolly
was duplicated on July 5, 1996 and since then the world has had many scientific advancements. Abby
Norman, author of How Close Are We to Successfully Cloning our First Human said that other types
of mammals such as goats, rats, pigs, mice, and rabbits have been cloned successfully but cloning
other mammals and primates may not be so easy. Scientists are not yet able to successfully clone a
human, but believe they will be able to do so by the 2020s. (Norman) Along with such a controversial
topic there comes many who would agree that copying a human would be beneficial while on the
opposing side some would argue that replicating someone s genes is ethically wrong. Cloning is a very
important topic and according to the President s Council on Bioethics, The prospect of cloning to
produce children, which would be a radically new form of procreation, raises deep concerns about
identity and individuality, the meaning of having children, the difference between procreation and
manufacture, and the relationship between the generations ( Human Cloning and Human Dignity: An
Ethical Inquiry , 2017). Although useful for studying genetic diseases, human cloning produces issues
as to whether it should be allowed or not because some believe the copy will have the same
personality and

We Are What We Eat Analysis
The importance of food to identity formation is certainly not unique to the immigrant experience.
Whether a part of invisible majority culture or deviant minority culture, food environments influence
our constructions of credos and categories. Generally speaking, eating preferences and behaviors are
part of familial and societal legacies. We may prepare the signature dishes of deceased relatives to
mark holidays or guard the secret ingredients of a family recipe. In other instances, particular spices
may evoke strong emotions or memories in us. Even in disordered eating behaviors, we tend to reflect
social values and constraints.145

Incidentally, food is one of the habits that immigrants in the US often maintain to some degree, even
as many other cultural practices slowly decline. 147 Several factors support this phenomenon,
including food s ability to: provide the immigrants with a daily portion of home, communicate cultural
values and social economies, as well as aid in the process of economic mobility. Food literature
expresses this legacy of migration, reflecting these same beliefs and their consequences.
For this reason, the identity discourse on food and survival resembles the lived experience of early
Arab immigrants.148 Like many other immigrant populations, they formed ethnic enclaves, in which
they continued many of their previous cultural practices, including those that involved food.
As Naff chronicles in her detailed history, Becoming American: The Early Arab Immigrant
Experience, Each settlement was, in fact, a stage on which the memories of village life were
reenacted. 149 Naff goes on to describe the eating habits of these early settlements, which preserved
Syrian foodways as much as possible. She writes: Their preference

Therapeutic Assessment Essay
Assessments
The assessments performed on this patient were vital signs, blood glucose levels and regular blood
tests. The vital signs were temperature 36.5 degrees, 80 beats per minute, 20 respiratory rates, blood
pressure was 140/70 and oxygen saturation was 99%. This objective data is all within normal range
(Bellchambers 2015, p. 588). It is important to monitor the patients blood pressure as he has
hypertension. This gives the healthcare professionals a baseline of his blood pressure so they can
determine a difference in the patient s health.
A capillary blood sample is used to test the blood glucose level (Kucia 2015, p. 875). The normal level
is 3.9 6.1mmol/L (Sanchez 2014, p. 582). This is measuring the glucose levels in millimoles per litre
of blood (Sanchez 2014, p. 582). As type two diabetes can cause hyperglycaemia, it is important to
monitor blood glucose levels (Porth 2015, p. 806). The patient is also taking insulin and medications

Why Is Seoul An Attractive To Tourist
Creative Project: Why Seoul is Attractive to Tourists
Is Seoul an attractive city for tourists? Seeing a nation s entire national history in a short time is really
difficult for tourists, because the national history is normally over 3000 years like South Korea.
However, Seoul has a great benefit in this sense. For instance, Seoul is only 605.28 km2, which makes
it one of the smallest cities among the major metropolises in the world, allowing tourists to see most
of the national history of South Korea in a single location. Only this advantage of touring Seoul in a
short time does not necessarily make Seoul an attractive city to tourists unless it also has interesting
historical artifacts and locations. Interestingly, Seoul preserves not only ... Show more content on

In 1225, when Kojong was the king of Koryo dynasty (1213 1259), the Mongol Empire demanded
tribute from Koryo, but Goryeo refused ( The Koryo Dynasty. ). Additionally, the Mongol s envoy
(Chu ku yu) was killed, and this incident became an effective excuse to invade Koryo dynasty. Hence,
after the invasion of Koryo by Khitan, the Mongols invaded Koryo in 1231. The Mongol invasions of
Korea (1231 1273 AD) consisted of six major campaigns lasting from 1231 to 1259 AD. These
invasions were tremendously ruinous and lead to the killing of many civilians throughout the Korean
Peninsula. As a result, the peasantry of Koryo suffered much hardship. For instance, the Mongols
burned everything such as houses of Koryo people, the ripened grain fields. It caused the shortage of
food supplies in Koryo, so the population had to be declined and whole villages fell into ruin ( The
Koryo Dynasty. ). Moreover, the peasantries and defenders of Koryo were cruelly slaughtered by their
conquerors (Mongolians). The most suffering period of Koryo people was when Charadai (the general
of Mongol) invade the Korean Peninsula in 1254. On this occasion it is said the corpses of the dead
were too many to be counted and the entire region where the Mongols passed was reduced to ashes (
The Koryo Dynasty. ). However, the government on Kanghwa did not protect the poor peasantry of
Koryo, while they only protected themselves. This miserable situation of Koryo people not only bred
hostility toward their government, but also dampened their desire to fight against the Mongols. This is
the resentment of Koryo

Managing Multiple Generations in the Workplace
Managing Multiple Generations in the Workplace
Diversity is no new thing in the workplace. Many different factors account for this circumstance in the
business arena. Gender, race and ethnicity, and age are a few of the major factors that create diversity
within the workplace. The latter, age, is one of the more understated and disregarded issue of diversity.
But over time, differences in age in the workplace has been growing more and more, generating
conflicts that could not be ignored any longer. The problem of age gaps in the workplace is caused by
having multiple generations in one workplace. Most see the age gaps in the workplace as an inherent
thing and thus, not something to cope with instead of something to be dealt with. ... Show more

The health of the common American is almost guaranteed at the center of every joke; from sly

However, the health of one of the leading nations in the world isn t a laughing matter and it should be

America on September 11th 2001. I too, like most Americans, saw a lot more of Condi, as she is
known by her many friends and colleagues, after September 11. Clearly she was intelligent and always

Popsile Constraints
Our group started to look at the creative constraints before designing the container which included 12
popsicle sticks, 5 10 index cards, 1 meter of duct tape, and 1 plastic bag, and the container had to fit
the base of a pie plate. Since we had to prove if 1 cubic cm is equal to 1 ml of water, we had to fit 1
liter of water in our container. Our group started discussing what shape we wanted to do and soon we
decided making a cube because it would be easy to build and it makes sense. Before building the
container had to made a plan, our plan was to start building from bottom to top. So we started off with
the base, but before we did that we had to make the dimensions which were 10 cm for the length, 10
cm for the width, and 10 cm for the height and it equals out to 1,000 cm. We planned to use all of the
materials, but we had to cut or bend them. We cut the popsicle sticks to 10 cm and bent the index
cards at the 10 cm mark that we made with a ruler. We placed the popsicle sticks in an X formation
and connected the sides with more popsicle sticks, so in total we used 6 popsicle sticks. We duct taped
the sides of the base and started working on the sides of the container. We taped the 4 bent index cards
to the base and taped popsicle sticks in the inside of the container vertically. We place the bag inside
and called it a day. Soon we tested it and the results didn t end up equalling to 1,000 ml of water, it

The Essential Preparation For Life And Career
Ancient and medieval authors believed that the seven liberal arts were propaedeutic to the study of all
topics and matters. Their belief remains evident in our school systems, as many universities and
colleges focus on providing a liberal arts education. In fact, the Dedman College at Southern
Methodist University mentions the importance of a liberal arts education in their mission statement, as
it is the essential preparation for life and career . The understanding of the seven liberal arts inspires a
broader and more focused study of materials often discussed in classes. Five of the seven liberal arts
can be directly applied to the study of Rural Matters. An understanding of geometry, arithmetic, and
astronomy is essential in gaining a deeper capacity for Rural Matters. Through Isidore of Seville s
Etymologies, we gain the understanding that without logic and grammar we would not be able to
appropriately discuss rural matters.
Isidore of Seville begins book seventeen of Etymologies, as he normally does, with the author and
creator of the topic at hand. Isidore of Seville acknowledges the uncertainty of the creator by listing
the different possibilities. According to the Greeks, Hesiod of Boeotia was the first to make skill in
writing on rural matters a part of the liberal education. According to the Romans, Cato was the first to
treat agriculture, Marcus Terence was the first to refine its study and Vergil exalted it with the skill of
his poetry (PAGE). Isidore explains

During the revolution, several African American slaves served in the revolutionary war from both
sides of the war. Moreover, this revolutionary war of independence helped the slaves in getting their
independence as well. This is when several thousands of the slaves attained the status of independence
by running away. As a result of the revolution, the slaves started to fight against the slavery after
getting the encouragement from the natural right philosophy of the seventeenth century English
philosopher John Locke (Digital History), which is also a part of the constitution of the United States
of America. This natural right philosophy is nothing else but the right to life and liberty that the
constitution of the United States guarantees to provide its citizens. In addition to this fight of the
African American against the slavery, the slaves began to appeal the Congress in order to destruct the
slavery. Furthermore, under the new constitution, the slaves were considered as 3/5 as productive as a
free person (Cardoza and Hume 116). Thus, after the revolution, the slaves were also given
representation while earlier the slaves were not considered to have any kind of rights since they were
not considered the citizens. Moreover, it was this revolutionary war, after which the abolitionist
movements initiated to abolish the slavery and thus, the awareness about slavery increased. Also, a lot

The Issue Of Problem Gambling
Introduction to the policy you have chosen and why that policy is important
This paper will explore the issue of problem gambling, specifically focusing on problem gambling as
a major issue in Australian society. It will also compare Australian gambling institutions with other
international gambling institutions including Las Vegas and, more importantly, Macau.
Gambling can be defined as an activity involving a participant who allows for something of value or
money to be put at risk. This includes playing poker machines, online games that risk the loss of
money, cards, casino games, as well as placing bets on sporting events, and purchasing lottery tickets
(Beyond Blue, 2010). Gambling is currently a very prominent issue in Australia ... Show more content

Gambling problems can create major financial problems, impact negatively on one s family and other
relationships, cause mental health issues such as depression and anxiety due to addiction, and establish
exposure of national and international serious organised crime through VIP high rollers that come to
Australia to gamble (Besser and Richard, 2014). Therefore it is mandatory for policy regulations to be
implemented by Australian federal and state governments with the cooperation of gambling
establishments in order to assist in combatting the serious issue of gambling in Australia.
Historical background to the issue and any historical precedents to current policy
Problem gambling is not a new issue and has occurred throughout the course of history. Gambling has
been obvious problem in the Australian community since the arrival of the first fleet (Australian
Government, 1999). Over time, more and more people have taken up the addictive activity of
gambling that becomes a large problem for many individuals over time. Since the advancement of
technology in society, it has created a great impact on problem gambling. For instance, the widespread
use of smart phones and tablets with high tech capabilities has allowed for owners to download games
such as poker and play from anywhere at anytime they wish. These applications on mobile devices

The Misunderstood Religion of Islam
Islam is perhaps the supreme misunderstood religion today, among non Muslims and among some of
the Muslims themselves. There are both historical and modern influences that might clarify this
misconception of Islam within certain rings in the West. One should start with the fact that Islam,
represented historically as the Ottoman Empire man Empire, occupied parts of Europe, which had
certainly not occurred to European civilization before. Then there were the Crusades, which was
Christendom attempting to, I believe, execute and impose its religion upon the Middle East. I
deliberately use the phrase Middle East, as the Crusades did not just impact the Muslim population;
the Jews were also in a similar position and were victims of this process. Furthermore, according to

Virtual Band History
We all love music its very wide and varied so, but it seems that there is a new brand of musical
springing up, virtual bands. Why do people enjoy virtual bands, virtual bands are bands made up of
animated members and perform for an audience in a recording fashion. Why anyone would make a
virtual band and why anyone would like such bands and are they profitable? so how big are virtual
bands actually, how far do they actually reach? Why do people watch animated bands, what is the
appeal? Why should any wish to make an animated band compared to a real one? Are they the future
of music or a passing fad?

they had different values, morals and beliefs; The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara is about a teacher
who tries to facilitate the youth in her community and Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes questions

Virtual Reality ( Vr )
After standing in line at Best Buy for over an hour, I was finally given the chance to try a new piece of
technology I had been following for several years. They fastened a thick headset over my face and I
was instantly transported to a different world. Here, my hands held a bow and arrow and I began to
shoot countless enemies to defend a kingdom from certain ruin. I was now a part of something that
what was once fantasy and now only possible in this alternate world. These digital universes are now
possible thanks to the recent introduction of Virtual Reality (VR), a piece of tech that allows the user
to enter digitally created realms. The technology consists of a headset (that a user would place on their
head), which covers one s face and sight with a big thick dome. Inside that dome is a screen that
projects into the user s eyes, creating a world in which they can feel and interact in. The user can look
around and touch things with their body, just like in the real world. This helps to make someone feel
immersed in an alternate reality, hence the name Virtual Reality. This device has definitely had a big
impact on the tech world and is a game changer to many. Because this device so new, it has yet to
catch on with the general masses, leading many to think that this will not be the next big thing. Many
believe the tech to be just another fad that will die out, as with Nintendo s Wii and its motion gaming.

Comparing Slaughterhouse Five And Full Metal Jacket
Between Slaughterhouse Five, a novel written by Kurt Vonnegut, and Full Metal Jacket, a film
directed by Stanley Kubrick, we can see many significant similarities in ideas and themes. Both of
them have major ideas regarding brainwashing of war as well as acceptance which, in a sense, go hand
in hand. However, since Full Metal Jacket follows Joker, the main character, he displays more ideas of
compassion and humanity while Slaughterhouse Five follows Billy Pilgrim, the main character, he
shows more of themes that reveal that time is cyclical and how everything ends up back at the
beginning.
Brainwashing is a significant part of every war and every soldier in every war; it is also a major theme
in Slaughterhouse Five and Full Metal Jacket. In a scene where Joker is in a helicopter with a door
gunner, the door gunner is shooting at Vietnamese farmers and civilians from a helicopter and says
that Joker should write a story about him because he has got 157 dead gooks killed to which Joker
responds by asking if he s killed any women or children and he says, sometimes. Then, Joker asks,
how can you shoot women or children? and the gunner responds by saying, Easy! Ya just don t lead
em so much! Ain t war hell? (Full Metal Jacket). As we can see, yes, war is definitely hell. The gunner
has been so brainwashed by the drilling of war training that he feels nothing when shooting at
innocent people from a helicopter, not even women and children. For a normal person, it would be

Compare And Contrast King Poe Vs King
Poe vs King
When thinking of two short stories, The Man in the Black Suit and The Black Cat come to mind. The
narrators of both these stories include suspense and bring about the effects on their minds throughout
both stories. Evidently, there are many similarities and differences between them both. Between both
narrators, they share the same point of view. However, one narrator seems to be angry while the other
seems to be intimidated. The narrators of The Man in the Black Suit and The Black Cat similarly have
first person point of view, however King s key difference of not being reliable results in suspense for
that story.
Both narrators from the story share a similarity of having first person point of view. To clarify, both
narrators go through a hardship that they both tell throughout their story. Gary from The Man in the
Black Suit faces his hardship through seeing that He was wearing a black three piece suit, and I knew
right away that he was not a human being, because his eyes were the orangey red of flames in a wood
stove (King 5). Through this quote, readers can infer by the use of the narrator s diction that he was
intimidated by the man in the black suit. In addition, by the narrator s choice of I , it meant that the
narrator was by himself during this hardship. The fearful tone that the narrator suggests helps
contribute to the point of view used in the quote above. The structure of the story for the narrator to be
lonely throughout his hardship makes the theme (bad things happen to good people) significant. Not to
mention, during the story, the reader develops an inference that the narrator may not make it out of the
situation alive. Comparatively, the narrator from The Black Cat has the same point of view as the
narrator in The Man in the Black Suit. The husband in The Black Cat seems to believe that he is alone
until he meets this cat named Pluto who genuinely loved him. The narrator faces a hardship when he
says ...I knew that it had loved me, and because I felt it had given me no reason of offence; hung it
because I knew that in doing so I was committing a sin... (Poe 2). Through this quote, readers can
infer that the narrator had a problem mentally and according to the

The Effects Of Counterfactual Thinking On Students At...
Participants
There were 425 participants that participated in this experimental study. Most of the participants were
friends and family members of the students at Florida International University. Of these, 152 were
male (36%) and 273 were female (64%) The age of the sample ranged from 14 to 76 (M = 29.05, SD
= 11.88). This included 42% Hispanic (N =180), 27% African American (N = 116), 25% Caucasian (N
= 108), and 3% Asian (N = 13), 1% other (N =6), and .5% Native American (N =2).
Materials and Procedures
In order to examine the effects of counterfactual thinking, we were able to create an online survey
through a server called Qualtrics. In order to find our participants, we recruited friends and family
members through e mail, telephone, and social media. After hearing some initial information about
what the study entailed, the participants who consented to be in the study were given a link to
complete an online survey and then, they were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: the
changeable (C), the unchangeable (UN) and the neutral (N). All surveys contained four main parts:
part one of the survey included the scenario. In the changeable condition, participants read about a taxi
driver who is rude to a handicapped couple and refuses to drive them over the bridge. As a result, the
taxi driver heads back alone and makes it safely over the bridge before it collapses 15 minutes later.
However, the couple did not have the same luck. After the taxi driver left, the

The Importance Of Logos In Writing
In every speech you hear, news article you read, and commercial you see rhetoric is being used.
Rhetoric is a technique used to try and persuade or please an audience. When writing, writers always
have to think about the subject of the situation, their audience, the occasion (place and time), and the
purpose or point that they are trying to get across. A key thing that writers focus on is ethos, logos and
pathos, all of these play a huge role in trying to convince the audience to believe what the speaker
believes or buy what they are selling. Ethos is trying to get the audience to trust you or getting
someone who the audience trusts, logos is using logic and reason like numbers and graphs and
statistics, ethos is going after the audience s emotions or beliefs to make them feel more connected or
understanding. With all this in mind, you have to know how and when to use these different ways of
persuasion because if you don t you will have an inneffective piece of writing. When using your
rhetorical devices correcting and you can persuade someone, that is an effective piece of writing. Man
Takes First Steps on the Moon is an example of an effective piece of writing that persuades the public
that Neil Armstrong had made the most historic scientific achievement in the history of man. In this
article it mentions former president Nixon describing is as one of the greatest moments of our time.

The System Failures From Limited Funding
Levee System Failures from Limited Funding Abstract Hurricane Katrina was one of the most

catastrophic levee failure resulting from the storm surge. The public widely reprimanded the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) afterwards since they built the New Orleans Levee System.
However, the Corps of Engineers was unable to rebuild the outdated levee system due to lack of
federal funding. This paper will focus on how President George. W. Bush and Congress were culpable

Army Corps of Engineers, requested the federal government to fund New Orleans Levee remedial
projects. Yet, Congress provided a negligibly small amount of funding. Admittedly, the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers (USACE) was directly culpable for building an unreliable levee system, but it is
President George. W. Bush and Congress s fault that there was not enough funding for them to build
the system. In the process of determining the annual budget, the president first proposes the budget
according to recommendations from government agencies, such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Then, the proposal is sent to Congress to make the final decision. Since the President and Congress
work together to complete the budget, both President Bush and Congress cannot escape blame for
making a bad decision to underfund the levee remedial projects. In this case, both the U.S. President
and Congress violated rights ethics and utilitarianism. To prevent this kind of unethical decision
making from happening again, Congress should (1) adhere to rights ethics by considering suggestions
besides the budget proposal (2) pertain to utilitarianism by employing specialists to calculate the pure
financial outcomes. Long before the disaster in 2005, many signs herald that a flood was going to
happen in New Orleans. In New Orleans history, several catastrophic hurricanes swept the land and
caused floods to inundate the city.

Reshaping DTV s Culture
Making Millenials proud DTV employees and customers by reshaping DTV s culture
TARGET: To attach a wow cool factor to DTV brand and make it more appealing to the Millenials,
representing employees and customers, to increase sales (by developing innovative products) and
reduce churn rate (by building customer centric DNA). This will, in turn, increase DTV s growth and
efficiency.
To enhance the connection between individual employees roles and the organization s strategy.
To constantly surprise customers with new products and turn them into proud DTV customers.
Whether to manage a company for growth or for efficiency is a classic dilemma, and the choice isn t
simple.
DIRECTV faces this challenge of rebooting its corporate culture by encouraging innovative projects
over the short term safe and profitable projects. PwC predicts that by 2016, almost 80 percent of its
workforce will be composed of Millennials and it will also represent a majority of consumers.
Therefore, it is an important challenge to look ahead and figure out what drives Millenials both from
customers and employees perspective. In order to appeal to Millenials, we need to have a wow cool
factor. For this, we should reshape the corporate culture by building customer centric DNA, provide
greater flexibility, promote diversity, make a difference to them and appreciate them.

The Importance Of Religion In Ancient Egyptian Religion
While some civilizations are defined by their religion, ancient Egyptian religion was defined by the
civilization. The people of ancient Egypt (3500 30 BCE) were greatly influenced by the cyclical
nature of their environment and the Nile River, causing their society to be immensely uniform in their
ways. This uniformity is reflected in Egyptian theology and overall culture; the Egyptian polytheistic
gods and their existence in daily life rarely, if ever, changed and never drastically. However, for a brief
period in the Old Kingdom, a rapid shift in Egyptian religion took place. Akhenaten, originally known
as Amenhotep IV, became pharaoh of Egypt, and with his rule came the upheaval of practices which
had previously been in place for thousands of years.
With the cyclical nature of Egyptian society blossomed their desire for order and law. This order in
ancient Egyptian civilization was referred to as Ma at. All aspects of life were based around this
concept and their religion could be defined as the realization of Ma at (Charles 1). Ma at was not only
an idea, but a goddess to the Egyptians. She was associated with balance and harmony on Earth. With
the existence of Ma at came the importance of consistency in Egyptian beliefs and practices; one of
these consistencies was the importance of the afterlife. Ancient Egyptian people believed in the
existence of life after death. They left items with the dead to go with them as they passed and the
people also worked to maintain

Why Was Collectivisation
How significant was collectivisation in Russia up to 1940?
Collectivisation is debatably Stalin s most important policy and the pinnacle of Communism. Causing
drastic changes for the Russian people, it could be argued that collectivisation was very significant in
Russia up to 1940. It was a successful tool used to reaffirm Stalin s power and spread Socialism; it
fueled industrialism, turning Russia into a global superpower once more; but most tragically, could be
named the greatest agricultural and social disaster ever experienced in Russia. However others may

It was the greatest social disaster to have hit Russian peasants, making it highly significant. During the
period of collectivisation, grain production levels were at their lowest, taking 25 years to achieve pre
collectivisation era levels, however, in order to improve the economy, grain procurement levels were
unrealistically high. This generated a widespread famine and violence in rural Russia. Violence levels
rocketed as riots against collectivisation broke out all over the countryside. Many were shocked by the
mass slaughter and human misery that it had brought about. It is estimated that a staggering 10 15
million people died of hunger and violence during the years of collectivisation; this number alone
highlights the significance of collectivisation. Furthermore, the famine increased as the Soviet
government procured grain only for the sake of doing so. In Ukraine, millions were left to starve in
what became known as the Black Famine as the government rooted out hidden stocks of grain, only to
have them rot in warehouses. The situation was not helped by the elimination of kulaks either; the
farming expertise had been purged, thus, there was no one to pull the peasants out of starvation.
Hence, collectivisation was highly significant as it resulted in a prodigious number of deaths, and
agriculturally, was a terrible

Study Of Reaction Parameters And Temperature And Mass...
The purpose of this study is to produce succinic acid from glycerol residue through anaerobic
fermentation process. The study of reaction parameters (pH, temperature and mass substrate) was
performed by using expert design software in glycerol recovery process. One factor at one time
(OFAT) method was performed as preliminary studies for selection of parameters range and
subsequently determine its optimum condition using response surface methodology (RSM). The
concentration of glycerol and succinic acid were determined using HPLC analysis. The FTIR
spectrometry was applied to examine the adsorption of organic element. Statistical optimization
(Respond Surface design Methodology) showed that optimal conditions were at pH, 2, temperature 35
0C and substrate 110.36 gram. At this optimum, 159.312 g/L was recovery of glycerol was obtained.
Succinic acid was produced via fermentation process by using Escherichia coli type k 12 under 19.67
g/L initial glycerol concentration, 200 rpm rotation speed and at temperature 37 0C. The work resulted
0.66983 g/L succinic acid been produced. The study also investigated succinic acid production from
commercial glycerol and its resulted about 0.73337 g/L. Overall, this research showed that the

This treatment of animal waste is dangerous and could lead to serious consequences. For example, the
organoarsenicals in fertilizer are consumed by poultry, high levels of arsenic are found in the tissue of
animals, and then poultry waste is used as a fertilizer. The incineration causes arsenic to be released
into the air, this is an issue for communities surrounding the area. This constant entrance of
organoarsenicals into the environ ment causes a risk for soil and groundwater becomes of less quality.
In the United States 61% of farmers sell litter based fertilizers and 23% use their own animal waste as
soil fertilizer (Kiranma yi). The use of animal waste as fertilizer is a positively impactful option for the
environment when treated with care and managed properly. It is easier to manage on small farms as
the farm ers can simply move their animals around the acreage spreading the waste equally. This
technique keeps the waste light on one spot allowing it to not overwhelm the soil. However, it is also
crucial to consider the chemicals inside the waste, and currently it is not cost effective for large scale
farmers or CAFOs to use environmentally friendly fertilizers and animal feed. Farmers also put
antibiotics into their animals to speed up growth, these antibiotics contribute to the waste prob lem

Gongche Paper
In most cultures, there are many ways to write and express music. Here in America, there are chant
notations, staff notations, solfege, and many more. China has another form of notation called
Gongche. Gongche is written in traditional Chinese characters that represent the note or part of solfege
that should be played. However, recently there are forms of writing music called Jianpu, which are
numbered notations that represent the note that needs to be played. Jianpu is a simplified version of
Gongche, however, instead of using Chinese characters, numbers are used to represent a solfege. In
standard American staff notation, there are different notes that are placed on a series of five lines that
represent different notes. At the beginning of the line, there are symbols that show ... Show more

In gongche, every character represents a note, which makes up their solfege. To tell how much
strength each note should be played for, there are accents placed on top of the characters, and a tiny
open circle placed under them. The accent on top of the note means that it is weaker than a normal
note, and the open circle means that it is stronger. This is done to assist with the rhythm of the overall
piece. These marks are made for the percussion, instructing them to take the rhythmic lead. In the
simplified, Jianpu notation, the numbers represent the notes position on the solfege. The scales that are
represented here are major and minor. When the dot is placed on top of a number, it means it should
be raised to the higher octave, and underneath means a lower one. In this system, the length of the
note played is shown to the musician by dashes placed underneath the number. This indicates an
equivalent of half and quarter notes. There are also zeroes that can be found on the musical piece, this
means that there is a rest. Similarly to staff notation, the meter is established by the vertical line after a

The Problems Of Long Distance Relationships
Long distance relationships occur because a person is away from his or her significant other for a
length of time. According to Lisa McKay, previously tried solutions for long distance relationships are
Skype dates and good communication. Long distance relationships are a large problem throughout the
United States with a significant failure rate, but the relationships succeed if each person in the
relationship is willing to make the relationship work until the two reunite. In the United States alone,
there are between 14,000,000 and 15,000,000 people in long distance relationships, and 4,500,000 of
those people are not married ( Long Distance Relationship Statistics ). People move away for

The best way to implement the solution is to maintain a good group of friends. Understanding friends
will offer support instead of always wanting to go out. In order to avoid becoming lonely, it is
important to maintain good relationships. Caring friends will understand if public fraternization costs
too much and will offer to do something fun at home instead. Another step is to video chat a few times
a week to keep in touch. Do not overdo it, because that makes both sides of the relationships bored
with the other. Other simple steps are to find movies to watch on TV and avoid spending unnecessary
money. The progress can be tracked by how well the relationship works. If each side expresses
happiness, then the solution is working; however, if the communication, or the lack of, leads to
unhappiness, then the solution is not working and an intervention is needed. A weakness in the
solution is that there may be long periods of time spent apart. Especially with college students, finding
the time to work and study is already hard enough, but finding the time and the money to travel is a
whole different story. The visits may be more spaced out that originally intended. Another obstacle is
that staying at home instead of going out requires extreme self discipline. When everyone else

cognizant of what it is that we create and display for humanity s benefit in a technological sense.
Areas such as gender, sexuality, class, ethnicity and culture in particular should be addressed with
inclusivity as opposed to the unfortunately common exclusivity within this digitality of course, such
subjects should be addressed with a progressive awareness in all areas; however, it is in the rapidly
evolving environment of technology since the start of the information age that these issues need to be
approached in an especially conscious setting. In a more specific sense: gender, sexuality, class,
ethnicity and culture ought to progress as rapidly as our technology does. Technology today does
attempt to address the concerns of these certain communities; however, there is always room for a
more inclusive internet society.
Take, for example, Youtube s most recent censorship of LGBTQ+ content: as has been a particularly
controversial subject of debate, recent Youtube videos containing material considered inappropriate
can be filtered out through a toggleable Restricted Mode, which is a tool that allows users to designate
the content that they want to view in their feed. For more ample definition, Youtube Help states that,
Restricted Mode is an optional setting that you can use to help screen out potentially mature content
that you may prefer not to see or don t want

Government Intervention Lies Conviction Of The Existance...
At the core of the theory justifying the need for government intervention lies conviction of the
existance of market failure, defects that make certain market situation, which by its nature is to aim to
maximise satisfaction / utility and optimally allocate resources, it stops in the sense of optimum Pareto
function properly (Francis M. Bator, 1958) . In other words, the market reduces the utility and waste
resources. It must therefore step a mediator usually government or legislative body which will correct
existing errors, improving the existing condition of things, that is, increasing the usability and
improving allocation. Interventionism is often called the third way, mixed economy, social market
economy or the welfare state and the main purpose of it is to achieve compromise between capitalism,
which is identified with the market econmy, and socialist system where the predominant form is
centrally planed economy. The term market failure, which for he first time appeared in 1958 (Francis
M. Bator, 1958), defines situation where the market does not perform in a rational ways its basic
functions; motivational and allocative. According to F.M.Bator, the market fails when people are fully
dedicated to their private interests what in fact leads to inefficiency. F.M. Bator argues that
businessmen`s desire for a ``quiet life`` is oposed to the fact that ` they have to do with the efficiency
of ``real life`` market institutions operated by ``real life`` people in a

Theme Of Mistakes In The Scarlet Letter And The Other Wes...
The Admittance of Mistakes in The Scarlet Letter and The Other Wes Moore
On May 17, 2017, a man named Arthur got into a fight with his boyfriend who later decided to press
charges. If he pleaded guilty during the first trial, Arthur would get three years of probation with a
criminal record, but he could keep his jobs. If he pleaded not guilty, he would receive 30 days in jail
before the second trial, but he would likely lose his jobs (Ralphling 1). While this is a terrible situation
for Arthur, it s difficult to feel the how his decision would affect all involved without a deeper
understanding of their points of view. Given equally difficult opportunities to admit their mistakes and
choices, the protagonists from The Scarlet Letter and The Other Wes Moore endured long periods of
internal conflict as they struggled to correct or accept the mistakes that were direct consequences of
their actions. The calculated use of diction and tone by both authors allowed the theme of these novels
to actually feel real compared to Arthur s case. The theme acceptance of mistakes is carefully crafted
in each novel through the strong usage of diction and tone.
The use of early American diction in The Scarlet Letter and urban slang in The Other Wes Moore help
to develop the emotional gravity of both books as they wrestle with the theme of acceptance of
mistakes. During a prison visit in The Other Wes Moore, the two boys named Wes discuss how
making mistakes can affect a person. The

Impact of Energy Subsidy in Russia
Russia is an energy producing powerhouse whose economic performance is largely correlated with the
fluctuations in the general commodities sector. According to the U.S. Energy Information
Administration s ( EIA) analysis brief on Russia, the country derived 52% of its federal government
revenues from oil and gas production, which also accounted for over 70% of all Russian exports in
2012. Russia is the world s second largest producer of natural gas and third largest producer of oil.
Domestic energy consumption is dominated by natural gas, which, according to the EIA s ... Show

This paper will address these general observations as they pertain to Russia. The aim will be to
identify and quantify the benefits as well as negative consequences of Russia s natural gas subsidies
and conclude with an opinion as to their effectiveness and the alternatives available to the current
policy.
Introduction Russia s Energy Sector and Subsidy Program at a glance
As mentioned earlier, Russia is the world s 3rd largest producer of oil and 2nd largest producer of
natural gas, with the largest known natural gas reserves in the world. 2012 oil production stood at
10.4m barrels per day (bbl/d), of which approximately 3.2m bbl/d were consumed domestically and
the rest was exported. Though Russia s oil production is concentrated in the Western Siberia and Urals
Volga region (85% of all production in 2012), exploration is now shifting to the under developed
Eastern Siberian areas as well as the Arctic Circle. Oil production is dominated by domestic
companies, led by the state controlled Rosneft, which after acquiring virtually all of the assets from
the Yukos liquidation as well as the assets from another major competitor, TNK BP, now

Theoretical Perspectives That Define Social Psychology
Introduction
Social psychology is the study of the nature and causes of human social behavior. There are five main
theoretical perspectives that define social psychology. Role, cognitive, symbolic interaction,
evolutionary, and reinforcement theory are the five theoretical perspectives that help understand
human social behavior. However, each theoretical perspective examines different approaches and play
different roles in social psychology. Some of the theories that make up social psychology take a micro
level approach and emphasize the importance of meanings, interactions, socialization and the
development of the self.
Role theory explains how individuals play roles in their daily lives. It is composed of both macro level
and micro level approaches. Unlike role theory, cognitive theory states that an individual s thinking
process influences their social behavior. Cognitive theory is a biological approach to sociology.
Symbolic interaction theory describes how social structure and social behaviors are formed through
symbols, language, and social interaction. A symbolic interaction theory is a micro level approach.
The evolutionary theory is a biological approach to sociology that not only deals with physical
evolution, but also focuses on the traits that are passed on from generation to generation to show how
it shapes their social behavior. Lastly reinforcement theory is a micro level approach that focuses on
how social behavior is influenced through the use of

Examples Of Evil In Macbeth
The definition of evil is profound immorality, wickedness, and depravity, especially when regarded as
a supernatural force. The readers see these qualities in the main character, Macbeth. This play, written
by William Shakespeare, starts off by portraying Macbeth as a hero who helped to win the battle for
Scotland; this is the first impression of Macbeth. Macbeth is not the only character that readers see
profound immorality in; evil is seen in the people around Macbeth as he makes his journey to the
throne.
First, evil is shown in Macbeth when he expresses that he is willing to do anything to obtain complete
power. After the war is won, Macbeth is told by the witches that he will be promoted to Thane of
Cawdor, and even has the opportunity to be king of Scotland. Macbeth is indeed promoted to Thane of
Cawdor and immediately gets anxious to be king, and right now. Macbeth is willing to kill the current
King Duncan to earn his throne. This evil deed is the first time we see wickedness in Macbeth.
Macbeth says, Stars hide your fires! Let not see my black and deep desires (I. iv. 52 53). Macbeth is
now admitting to his own evil thoughts. Macbeth s killing streak is not over and he will not ... Show

The second time readers see evil in Macbeth, is when Lady Macbeth tells her husband that he is not a
real man when he is questioning if killing the king is what he needs to do. Yet do I fear thy nature; It is
too full o th milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way: thou wouldst be great, Art not without
ambition, but without the illness should attend it (I. v. 2 7). Lady Macbeth is now as greedy as her
husband for the power. She is the one who convinces him to kill his first victim. As the show goes on,
her less strength and confidence about their reign seems to hinder. Lady Macbeth ends up committing
suicide because she cannot handle the guilt of all the dispare she and her husband have placed on

Summary Of The Loss Of The CreatureBy Richard...
How someone looks, acts, or is seen means a lot in Rodriguez s society. Complexion is an excerpt
from the memoir, Hunger of Memories, which Richard Rodriguez has wrote. The essay, The Loss of
the Creature was written by Percy Walker who uses many examples to show different outcomes of
different situations. Percy s essay can be related to the chapter Complexion from Hunger of Memories
by connecting the struggle of a person with examples of Rodriguez s struggle throughout his
childhood. Percy discusses the struggle for the person in which Rodriguez explores throughout the
chapter, Complexion in his memoir.
The struggle for the person that Percy describes in The Loss of the Creature is displayed by Rodriguez
s manliness which is being nullified from him. Rodriguez s father does not think that Rodriguez is
manly. His father thought that he was not manly because of two things; he did not know what real
work was and that his hands were soft. Rodriguez had felt like his manliness was being stripped of
him because, At such times I suspected that education was making me effeminate. (Rodriguez 457)
Rodriguez s mother was proud of all her children for getting an education even if he wasn t. His father
and him may think getting an education is effeminate but it can be manly. School can give you rough
hands by spending hours writing with a pencil and getting callus . Rodriguez can experience hard
work through a job that he s earned by working hard in school. Getting an

Characterism In White Fang, By Jack London
White Fang is a classic novel that is written by an author with the name of Jack London. London was
born and raised in San Francisco, CA. This author has written many other successful novels/stories
such as, The Call of the Wild, The Game, Before Adam, etc., etc. This classic novel s genre is
realistic/adventure fiction. White Fang is important novel to our people/culture because this particular
work of literature captures life s finest and scariest moments. For example, it captures how scary
Mother Nature can be, also the great challenges in life. Jack London has been known for his precise
descriptions on the beautiful landscapes in his novels.
The setting of this story takes place in the 1890 s in the Yukon Territory. The setting was full of
mountains, wide rivers, and much more beautiful nature. The Yukon Territory was full of people that
came for the 1890 gold rush. Even though the gold everyone was looking for was found in Alaska.
White Fang is told in third person narrative. The story is mainly told through Fang s point of view,
even though the story starts a little bit before Fang s birth. The setting and the way this story is told
influences the novel by making more descriptive in detail. It also makes Fang s life easier to
understand or comprehend because he is telling the story himself.
The main protagonist in the story is White Fang, but there is also other protagonist included in the
story. Kiche, is Fang s mother. Kiche happens to be half wolf and half

The Hards Among Usa Analysis
A stressed magazine journalist has to debunk his own family curse that predicts he ll be dead by his
next birthday.
STORY COMMENTS
THE DARKNESS AMONG US is a compelling paranormal thriller horror tale with an excellent
concept. The plot presents with a solid hook with the idea of a journalist debunking his own family
curse. The goal is clear and the stakes are life and death. There s a natural ticking clock tension with
the idea that the protagonist will die by his next birthday. The audience is fully engaged with the plot
from the opening until the very end.
One can easily envision the script as a feature film.
The script uses some smart techniques that make for a successful film: an ominous, foreboding tone,
tease attacks, spooky ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His name is mentioned on page 57, but it feels a bit jarring and then conveniently Chris connects
Tanner with the psychic s office. It might work more effectively if the picture of Tanner is planted in
the opening scene at the psychic s office or if Tanner is going into her office as Chris comes out.
Also, show Chris researching Jynx on the computer. It s a bit unclear how he s able to come up with
the name Tanner too.
The story needs a strong midpoint. Consider killing the character of Dorothy to provide for a stronger
payoff and add more tension (consider that it looks like a suicide) or kill someone else. This type of
story really needs a midpoint point inciting event that changes things for Chris and takes the story in a
new, but related direction.
The finding of Gabriel, around the midpoint, helps to take the plot in a new, but related direction, but
the story needs a more compelling plot beat, something that s scary/exciting (a death) to push Chris
into the direction of Gabriel.
Also, remember the opening scene makes it look like a suicide, so the twist about the death certificate
and Chris learning his father died from a suicide vs. murder, isn t a twist for the

Using all the information at hand, an in depth analysis of the Porter Airlines current situation and strategy is presented. TORONTO S REGIONAL AIRLINE Porter Airlines has been able to successfully establish itself as Toronto s short haul carrier of choice by providing superior service while maintaining a low breakeven load factor. The alternative to flying with Porter is to fly from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), which during peak traffic, can be a multi hour commute from the downtown core. Therefore, Porter s location is of significant strategic importance in terms of offering value to the customer. Porter Airlines is the subsidiary of Porter Aviation Holdings Inc. • 3. Symbolism In Frida Kahlo s Still Life The final still lifes in the image archive are a group of drawings created by artist Jerry Winick. In all three of these images, vintage tea sets are shown. Other items shown include a clock, family photos (both framed and unframed), flowers, books, glasses, bowls, tongs, doilies, and a magnifying glass. These drawings are rendered hyper realistically, with an exceptional level of detail. Winick appears to have chosen these objects to create a nostalgic representation of his family. This is shown through not only the inclusion of the vintage tea sets and other objects, but through the presence of photos which presumably are shots of his family members. It appears that he has arranged a set of objects to symbolize his family, thus creating a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have gathered a significant amount of evidence to pursue research on the purpose of still lifes. I think this would be valuable to pursue, because to this day many people seem to undervalue the purpose of still life art. At first glance, it may seem mundane, pointless, or meant solely to improve technical skills, but there is much more involved in the subject matter. Additionally, I think this research will benefit my body of work, since I enjoy creating still life artwork for my portfolio. (which is how vanitas symbols have been utilized). ... Domestic Violence Related Crime Throughout West Virginia Domestic violence is a universal problem that can affect an individual of any age, gender, race, education level, social class, or culture. This type of violence is considered to be one of the most widespread public health crises in the United States (Black et al., 2011). The purpose of this essay is to create a plan for a program that addresses domestic violence related crime in West Virginia. To begin, significant information in relation to domestic violence will be provided. This will be followed by the program plan, which will include seven steps: an analysis of the problem, identification of goals and objectives, development of a program design, development of an action plan, development of a plan to monitor program effectiveness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although women can be perpetrators, they are more often the victims of abuse than men. According to Blair, McFarlane, Nava, Gilroy, and Maddoux (2015), 92 percent of domestic violence offenders are male (p. 23). Domestic violence perpetrators that become involved in the criminal justice system are overwhelmingly male offenders between the ages of 18 and 35 years old. Data from studies conducted in the United States have revealed that a significant amount of male abusers have had some type of previous contact with the criminal justice system. It should be noted that this contact includes positive and negative encounters. Since abusers come from all walks of life, they can be respected law abiding members of their communities or unpopular individuals with a criminal history. There are no set standards or explicit personality traits that wholly identify abusers. However, researchers have identified certain indicators and risk factors that may predispose one to become an abuser (U.S. Department of Justice, 2009). One dominant attribute of domestic violence is the rate of recurrence for substance use or abuse in domestic violence incidents. Researchers have determined that there is an extremely high correlation between the use of these substances and domestic assaults. Research endorsed by the National Institute of Justice has established that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Summary Of Lust, Caution Born in 1920 and died of Arteriosclerosis cardiovascular disease in 1995, Chang had a legendary life. Her grandmother was the daughter of a great politician and diplomat, Li Hung Chang in Qing Dynasty. Living in a noble family did not lead Chang to a happy childhood, though. Chang s mother left Chang and her younger brother when they were both young. Thereafter, Chang suffered from domestic violence caused by her stepmother and drug addicted father. Nevertheless, such tragic life did not stop Chang from being a talented and productive novelist. Lust, Caution has been written in the 1950s. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After years of revision, the story has finally been published in 1983 by Crown publishing company in Taiwan. It is believed that Chang was inspired by a historical incident happened between 1939 and 1940, when a female spy plotted to assassinate a secret agent that works for the puppet government. The director of the film adaptation, Ang Lee makes a commentary on Chang and Lust, Caution that to me, no writer has ever used the Chinese language as cruelly as Zhang Ailing (Eileen Chang), and no story of hers is as beautiful or as cruel as Lust, Caution (Peng vii). If we examine the early life experience of Eileen Chang, we can see her life has something in common with the protagonist in Lust, Caution, Wang Chia Chih. For example, they were both from Shanghai, fled to Hong Kong at the beginning of WWII, and went back to Shanghai after the Pacific War broke out (Zhang et al. 237). In order to make Chang and Wang bear more resemblances, the film even adds a few plots to make the kinship between Chang and Wang more evidently (Kuo 46). • 8. Human Cloning Ethical Concerns on Human Cloning Human cloning, one of the most fascinating chapters in scientific history. Cloning goes back to the first mammal that was successfully cloned, Dolly the sheep. Dolly was duplicated on July 5, 1996 and since then the world has had many scientific advancements. Abby Norman, author of How Close Are We to Successfully Cloning our First Human said that other types of mammals such as goats, rats, pigs, mice, and rabbits have been cloned successfully but cloning other mammals and primates may not be so easy. Scientists are not yet able to successfully clone a human, but believe they will be able to do so by the 2020s. (Norman) Along with such a controversial topic there comes many who would agree that copying a human would be beneficial while on the opposing side some would argue that replicating someone s genes is ethically wrong. Cloning is a very important topic and according to the President s Council on Bioethics, The prospect of cloning to produce children, which would be a radically new form of procreation, raises deep concerns about identity and individuality, the meaning of having children, the difference between procreation and manufacture, and the relationship between the generations ( Human Cloning and Human Dignity: An Ethical Inquiry , 2017). Although useful for studying genetic diseases, human cloning produces issues as to whether it should be allowed or not because some believe the copy will have the same personality and ... • 9. We Are What We Eat Analysis The importance of food to identity formation is certainly not unique to the immigrant experience. Whether a part of invisible majority culture or deviant minority culture, food environments influence our constructions of credos and categories. Generally speaking, eating preferences and behaviors are part of familial and societal legacies. We may prepare the signature dishes of deceased relatives to mark holidays or guard the secret ingredients of a family recipe. In other instances, particular spices may evoke strong emotions or memories in us. Even in disordered eating behaviors, we tend to reflect social values and constraints.145 In her culinary history of ethnicity in the United States, We Are What We Eat: Ethnic Food and the Making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Incidentally, food is one of the habits that immigrants in the US often maintain to some degree, even as many other cultural practices slowly decline. 147 Several factors support this phenomenon, including food s ability to: provide the immigrants with a daily portion of home, communicate cultural values and social economies, as well as aid in the process of economic mobility. Food literature expresses this legacy of migration, reflecting these same beliefs and their consequences. For this reason, the identity discourse on food and survival resembles the lived experience of early Arab immigrants.148 Like many other immigrant populations, they formed ethnic enclaves, in which they continued many of their previous cultural practices, including those that involved food. As Naff chronicles in her detailed history, Becoming American: The Early Arab Immigrant Experience, Each settlement was, in fact, a stage on which the memories of village life were reenacted. 149 Naff goes on to describe the eating habits of these early settlements, which preserved Syrian foodways as much as possible. She writes: Their preference ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The vital signs were temperature 36.5 degrees, 80 beats per minute, 20 respiratory rates, blood pressure was 140/70 and oxygen saturation was 99%. This objective data is all within normal range (Bellchambers 2015, p. 588). It is important to monitor the patients blood pressure as he has hypertension. This gives the healthcare professionals a baseline of his blood pressure so they can determine a difference in the patient s health. A capillary blood sample is used to test the blood glucose level (Kucia 2015, p. 875). The normal level is 3.9 6.1mmol/L (Sanchez 2014, p. 582). This is measuring the glucose levels in millimoles per litre of blood (Sanchez 2014, p. 582). Seeing a nation s entire national history in a short time is really difficult for tourists, because the national history is normally over 3000 years like South Korea. However, Seoul has a great benefit in this sense. For instance, Seoul is only 605.28 km2, which makes it one of the smallest cities among the major metropolises in the world, allowing tourists to see most of the national history of South Korea in a single location. Additionally, the Mongol s envoy (Chu ku yu) was killed, and this incident became an effective excuse to invade Koryo dynasty. Hence, after the invasion of Koryo by Khitan, the Mongols invaded Koryo in 1231. The Mongol invasions of Korea (1231 1273 AD) consisted of six major campaigns lasting from 1231 to 1259 AD. These invasions were tremendously ruinous and lead to the killing of many civilians throughout the Korean Peninsula. As a result, the peasantry of Koryo suffered much hardship. For instance, the Mongols burned everything such as houses of Koryo people, the ripened grain fields. It caused the shortage of food supplies in Koryo, so the population had to be declined and whole villages fell into ruin ( The Koryo Dynasty. ). Moreover, the peasantries and defenders of Koryo were cruelly slaughtered by their conquerors (Mongolians). The most suffering period of Koryo people was when Charadai (the general of Mongol) invade the Korean Peninsula in 1254. On this occasion it is said the corpses of the dead were too many to be counted and the entire region where the Mongols passed was reduced to ashes ( The Koryo Dynasty. ). However, the government on Kanghwa did not protect the poor peasantry of Koryo, while they only protected themselves. This miserable situation of Koryo people not only bred hostility toward their government, but also dampened their desire to fight against the Mongols. This is the resentment of Koryo ... Many different factors account for this circumstance in the business arena. Gender, race and ethnicity, and age are a few of the major factors that create diversity within the workplace. The latter, age, is one of the more understated and disregarded issue of diversity. But over time, differences in age in the workplace has been growing more and more, generating conflicts that could not be ignored any longer. • 16. Popsile Constraints Our group started to look at the creative constraints before designing the container which included 12 popsicle sticks, 5 10 index cards, 1 meter of duct tape, and 1 plastic bag, and the container had to fit the base of a pie plate. Since we had to prove if 1 cubic cm is equal to 1 ml of water, we had to fit 1 liter of water in our container. Our group started discussing what shape we wanted to do and soon we decided making a cube because it would be easy to build and it makes sense. Before building the container had to made a plan, our plan was to start building from bottom to top. So we started off with the base, but before we did that we had to make the dimensions which were 10 cm for the length, 10 cm for the width, and 10 cm for the height and it equals out to 1,000 cm. We planned to use all of the materials, but we had to cut or bend them. We cut the popsicle sticks to 10 cm and bent the index cards at the 10 cm mark that we made with a ruler. We placed the popsicle sticks in an X formation and connected the sides with more popsicle sticks, so in total we used 6 popsicle sticks. We duct taped the sides of the base and started working on the sides of the container. We taped the 4 bent index cards to the base and taped popsicle sticks in the inside of the container vertically. • 18. The Essential Preparation For Life And Career Ancient and medieval authors believed that the seven liberal arts were propaedeutic to the study of all topics and matters. Their belief remains evident in our school systems, as many universities and colleges focus on providing a liberal arts education. In fact, the Dedman College at Southern Methodist University mentions the importance of a liberal arts education in their mission statement, as it is the essential preparation for life and career . The understanding of the seven liberal arts inspires a broader and more focused study of materials often discussed in classes. Five of the seven liberal arts can be directly applied to the study of Rural Matters. An understanding of geometry, arithmetic, and astronomy is essential in gaining a deeper capacity for Rural Matters. Through Isidore of Seville s Etymologies, we gain the understanding that without logic and grammar we would not be able to appropriately discuss rural matters. Isidore of Seville begins book seventeen of Etymologies, as he normally does, with the author and creator of the topic at hand. Isidore of Seville acknowledges the uncertainty of the creator by listing the different possibilities. According to the Greeks, Hesiod of Boeotia was the first to make skill in writing on rural matters a part of the liberal education. According to the Romans, Cato was the first to treat agriculture, Marcus Terence was the first to refine its study and Vergil exalted it with the skill of his poetry (PAGE). Isidore explains ... Moreover, this revolutionary war of independence helped the slaves in getting their independence as well. This is when several thousands of the slaves attained the status of independence by running away. As a result of the revolution, the slaves started to fight against the slavery after getting the encouragement from the natural right philosophy of the seventeenth century English philosopher John Locke (Digital History), which is also a part of the constitution of the United States of America. This natural right philosophy is nothing else but the right to life and liberty that the constitution of the United States guarantees to provide its citizens. In addition to this fight of the African American against the slavery, the slaves began to appeal the Congress in order to destruct the slavery. Furthermore, under the new constitution, the slaves were considered as 3/5 as productive as a free person (Cardoza and Hume 116). Thus, after the revolution, the slaves were also given representation while earlier the slaves were not considered to have any kind of rights since they were not considered the citizens. • 21. The Misunderstood Religion of Islam Islam is perhaps the supreme misunderstood religion today, among non Muslims and among some of the Muslims themselves. There are both historical and modern influences that might clarify this misconception of Islam within certain rings in the West. One should start with the fact that Islam, represented historically as the Ottoman Empire man Empire, occupied parts of Europe, which had certainly not occurred to European civilization before. Then there were the Crusades, which was Christendom attempting to, I believe, execute and impose its religion upon the Middle East. I deliberately use the phrase Middle East, as the Crusades did not just impact the Muslim population; the Jews were also in a similar position and were victims of this process. Furthermore, according to specific groups, the Orthodox Christians were victims as well of those circumstances. Therefore, it was fundamentally Western Christendom that was the driving factor of the Crusades, which extended throughout centuries and ended in defeat for the powerful Christian leaders. This had an impact on the psyche of the Western people and influenced their opinion of civilization. Then, of course, you had colonialism, which affected both sides and created a situation in which the antagonism became even more serious. After the colonial period, a key factor that arose concerned the economic benefits represented by oil, which is considered a gold commodity that is most essential to manufacturing and industrial ... I was now a part of something that what was once fantasy and now only possible in this alternate world. These digital universes are now possible thanks to the recent introduction of Virtual Reality (VR), a piece of tech that allows the user to enter digitally created realms. Inside that dome is a screen that projects into the user s eyes, creating a world in which they can feel and interact in. Comparing Slaughterhouse Five And Full Metal Jacket Between Slaughterhouse Five, a novel written by Kurt Vonnegut, and Full Metal Jacket, a film directed by Stanley Kubrick, we can see many significant similarities in ideas and themes. Both of them have major ideas regarding brainwashing of war as well as acceptance which, in a sense, go hand in hand. However, since Full Metal Jacket follows Joker, the main character, he displays more ideas of compassion and humanity while Slaughterhouse Five follows Billy Pilgrim, the main character, he shows more of themes that reveal that time is cyclical and how everything ends up back at the beginning. Brainwashing is a significant part of every war and every soldier in every war; it is also a major theme in Slaughterhouse Five and Full Metal Jacket. In a scene where Joker is in a helicopter with a door gunner, the door gunner is shooting at Vietnamese farmers and civilians from a helicopter and says that Joker should write a story about him because he has got 157 dead gooks killed to which Joker responds by asking if he s killed any women or children and he says, sometimes. Then, Joker asks, how can you shoot women or children? and the gunner responds by saying, Easy! Ya just don t lead em so much! Ain t war hell? (Full Metal Jacket). • 27. Compare And Contrast King Poe Vs King Poe vs King When thinking of two short stories, The Man in the Black Suit and The Black Cat come to mind. The narrators of both these stories include suspense and bring about the effects on their minds throughout both stories. Evidently, there are many similarities and differences between them both. Between both narrators, they share the same point of view. However, one narrator seems to be angry while the other seems to be intimidated. The narrators of The Man in the Black Suit and The Black Cat similarly have first person point of view, however King s key difference of not being reliable results in suspense for that story. Both narrators from the story share a similarity of having first person point of view. To clarify, both narrators go through a hardship that they both tell throughout their story. Gary from The Man in the Black Suit faces his hardship through seeing that He was wearing a black three piece suit, and I knew right away that he was not a human being, because his eyes were the orangey red of flames in a wood stove (King 5). Through this quote, readers can infer by the use of the narrator s diction that he was intimidated by the man in the black suit. In addition, by the narrator s choice of I , it meant that the narrator was by himself during this hardship. The fearful tone that the narrator suggests helps contribute to the point of view used in the quote above. The structure of the story for the narrator to be lonely throughout his hardship makes the theme (bad things happen to good people) significant. Not to mention, during the story, the reader develops an inference that the narrator may not make it out of the situation alive. Comparatively, the narrator from The Black Cat has the same point of view as the narrator in The Man in the Black Suit. The husband in The Black Cat seems to believe that he is alone until he meets this cat named Pluto who genuinely loved him. The narrator faces a hardship when he says ...I knew that it had loved me, and because I felt it had given me no reason of offence; hung it because I knew that in doing so I was committing a sin... • 29. The Importance Of Logos In Writing In every speech you hear, news article you read, and commercial you see rhetoric is being used. Rhetoric is a technique used to try and persuade or please an audience. When writing, writers always have to think about the subject of the situation, their audience, the occasion (place and time), and the purpose or point that they are trying to get across. A key thing that writers focus on is ethos, logos and pathos, all of these play a huge role in trying to convince the audience to believe what the speaker believes or buy what they are selling. Ethos is trying to get the audience to trust you or getting someone who the audience trusts, logos is using logic and reason like numbers and graphs and statistics, ethos is going after the audience s emotions or beliefs to make them feel more connected or understanding. With all this in mind, you have to know how and when to use these different ways of persuasion because if you don t you will have an inneffective piece of writing. When using your rhetorical devices correcting and you can persuade someone, that is an effective piece of writing. Army Corps of Engineers, requested the federal government to fund New Orleans Levee remedial projects. Yet, Congress provided a negligibly small amount of funding. Admittedly, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) was directly culpable for building an unreliable levee system, but it is President George. W. Bush and Congress s fault that there was not enough funding for them to build the system. In the process of determining the annual budget, the president first proposes the budget according to recommendations from government agencies, such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Then, the proposal is sent to Congress to make the final decision. Since the President and Congress work together to complete the budget, both President Bush and Congress cannot escape blame for making a bad decision to underfund the levee remedial projects. In this case, both the U.S. President and Congress violated rights ethics and utilitarianism. To prevent this kind of unethical decision making from happening again, Congress should (1) adhere to rights ethics by considering suggestions besides the budget proposal (2) pertain to utilitarianism by employing specialists to calculate the pure financial outcomes. • 32. The Importance Of Religion In Ancient Egyptian Religion While some civilizations are defined by their religion, ancient Egyptian religion was defined by the civilization. The people of ancient Egypt (3500 30 BCE) were greatly influenced by the cyclical nature of their environment and the Nile River, causing their society to be immensely uniform in their ways. This uniformity is reflected in Egyptian theology and overall culture; the Egyptian polytheistic gods and their existence in daily life rarely, if ever, changed and never drastically. However, for a brief period in the Old Kingdom, a rapid shift in Egyptian religion took place. Akhenaten, originally known as Amenhotep IV, became pharaoh of Egypt, and with his rule came the upheaval of practices which had previously been in place for thousands of years. With the cyclical nature of Egyptian society blossomed their desire for order and law. This order in ancient Egyptian civilization was referred to as Ma at. All aspects of life were based around this concept and their religion could be defined as the realization of Ma at (Charles 1). Ma at was not only an idea, but a goddess to the Egyptians. She was associated with balance and harmony on Earth. This generated a widespread famine and violence in rural Russia. Violence levels rocketed as riots against collectivisation broke out all over the countryside. Many were shocked by the mass slaughter and human misery that it had brought about. It is estimated that a staggering 10 15 million people died of hunger and violence during the years of collectivisation; this number alone highlights the significance of collectivisation. Furthermore, the famine increased as the Soviet government procured grain only for the sake of doing so. In Ukraine, millions were left to starve in what became known as the Black Famine as the government rooted out hidden stocks of grain, only to have them rot in warehouses. China has another form of notation called Gongche. Gongche is written in traditional Chinese characters that represent the note or part of solfege that should be played. However, recently there are forms of writing music called Jianpu, which are numbered notations that represent the note that needs to be played. Jianpu is a simplified version of Gongche, however, instead of using Chinese characters, numbers are used to represent a solfege. In standard American staff notation, there are different notes that are placed on a series of five lines that represent different notes. At the beginning of the line, there are symbols that show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In gongche, every character represents a note, which makes up their solfege. To tell how much strength each note should be played for, there are accents placed on top of the characters, and a tiny open circle placed under them. The accent on top of the note means that it is weaker than a normal note, and the open circle means that it is stronger. This is done to assist with the rhythm of the overall piece. These marks are made for the percussion, instructing them to take the rhythmic lead. In the simplified, Jianpu notation, the numbers represent the notes position on the solfege. The scales that are represented here are major and minor. When the dot is placed on top of a number, it means it should be raised to the higher octave, and underneath means a lower one. In this system, the length of the note played is shown to the musician by dashes placed underneath the number. This indicates an equivalent of half and quarter notes. There are also zeroes that can be found on the musical piece, this means that there is a rest. Similarly to staff notation, the meter is established by the vertical line after a certain number of ... According to Lisa McKay, previously tried solutions for long distance relationships are Skype dates and good communication. Long distance relationships are a large problem throughout the United States with a significant failure rate, but the relationships succeed if each person in the relationship is willing to make the relationship work until the two reunite. In the United States alone, there are between 14,000,000 and 15,000,000 people in long distance relationships, and 4,500,000 of those people are not married ( Long Distance Relationship Statistics ). Understanding friends will offer support instead of always wanting to go out. In order to avoid becoming lonely, it is important to maintain good relationships. Caring friends will understand if public fraternization costs too much and will offer to do something fun at home instead. Another step is to video chat a few times a week to keep in touch. Do not overdo it, because that makes both sides of the relationships bored with the other. Other simple steps are to find movies to watch on TV and avoid spending unnecessary money. The progress can be tracked by how well the relationship works. If each side expresses happiness, then the solution is working; however, if the communication, or the lack of, leads to unhappiness, then the solution is not working and an intervention is needed. A weakness in the solution is that there may be long periods of time spent apart. Especially with college students, finding the time to work and study is already hard enough, but finding the time and the money to travel is a whole different story. The visits may be more spaced out that originally intended. Another obstacle is that staying at home instead of going out requires extreme self discipline. In the movie Apocalypse Now, Saigon was where the movie took place in Vietnam. The adaptation of Heart of Darkness in the Vietnam War created an atmosphere where the soldiers needed to adapt to their surroundings in the Vietnam jungle. The war was devastating and gruesome for soldiers on either side to be a part of. Even though the Congo River in the 1890s was one way to include it in Heart of Darkness, it makes perfect sense to relate it in the Vietnam War. Kurtz adapted very well to the jungle, the people, and the war. He found ways to communicate with the people there and get them to understand why he was there in their territory. He made peace with them and got the natives to follow him as the leader. Kurtz was smart in a different way. He knew how to make decisions on the spot and make good decisions under pressure. The jungle was also a great example of how he managed to adapt. He could navigate his way around the jungle and set up camp where it is difficult to get to. It wasn t located in a place where you can just drive to. The river was a brilliant way to get people to and from his camp. The war itself was the last point in which Kurtz adapted quickly and efficiently to. War is not the easiest thing to adapt to, especially if it is the first time being there. This obviously wasn t Kurtz s first rodeo. He made tremendous accomplishments while going on his own path to make things happen for the better of his crew and crew members. • 42. The Importance Of Inclusivity In The Digital Age In the digital age, it is important for us as the perpetrators of technology into the modern era to be cognizant of what it is that we create and display for humanity s benefit in a technological sense. Areas such as gender, sexuality, class, ethnicity and culture in particular should be addressed with inclusivity as opposed to the unfortunately common exclusivity within this digitality of course, such subjects should be addressed with a progressive awareness in all areas; however, it is in the rapidly evolving environment of technology since the start of the information age that these issues need to be approached in an especially conscious setting. In a more specific sense: gender, sexuality, class, ethnicity and culture ought to progress as rapidly as our technology does. Technology today does attempt to address the concerns of these certain communities; however, there is always room for a more inclusive internet society. Take, for example, Youtube s most recent censorship of LGBTQ+ content: as has been a particularly controversial subject of debate, recent Youtube videos containing material considered inappropriate can be filtered out through a toggleable Restricted Mode, which is a tool that allows users to designate the content that they want to view in their feed. For more ample definition, Youtube Help states that, Restricted Mode is an optional setting that you can use to help screen out potentially mature content that you may prefer not to see or don t want ... At the core of the theory justifying the need for government intervention lies conviction of the existance of market failure, defects that make certain market situation, which by its nature is to aim to maximise satisfaction / utility and optimally allocate resources, it stops in the sense of optimum Pareto function properly (Francis M. The Admittance of Mistakes in The Scarlet Letter and The Other Wes Moore On May 17, 2017, a man named Arthur got into a fight with his boyfriend who later decided to press charges. If he pleaded guilty during the first trial, Arthur would get three years of probation with a criminal record, but he could keep his jobs. If he pleaded not guilty, he would receive 30 days in jail before the second trial, but he would likely lose his jobs (Ralphling 1). While this is a terrible situation for Arthur, it s difficult to feel the how his decision would affect all involved without a deeper understanding of their points of view. Given equally difficult opportunities to admit their mistakes and choices, the protagonists from The Scarlet Letter and The Other Wes Moore endured long periods of internal conflict as they struggled to correct or accept the mistakes that were direct consequences of their actions. The calculated use of diction and tone by both authors allowed the theme of these novels to actually feel real compared to Arthur s case. The theme acceptance of mistakes is carefully crafted in each novel through the strong usage of diction and tone. The use of early American diction in The Scarlet Letter and urban slang in The Other Wes Moore help to develop the emotional gravity of both books as they wrestle with the theme of acceptance of mistakes. There are five main theoretical perspectives that define social psychology. Role, cognitive, symbolic interaction, evolutionary, and reinforcement theory are the five theoretical perspectives that help understand human social behavior. However, each theoretical perspective examines different approaches and play different roles in social psychology. Some of the theories that make up social psychology take a micro level approach and emphasize the importance of meanings, interactions, socialization and the development of the self. Role theory explains how individuals play roles in their daily lives. It is composed of both macro level and micro level approaches. Unlike role theory, cognitive theory states that an individual s thinking process influences their social behavior. Cognitive theory is a biological approach to sociology. Symbolic interaction theory describes how social structure and social behaviors are formed through symbols, language, and social interaction. A symbolic interaction theory is a micro level approach. The evolutionary theory is a biological approach to sociology that not only deals with physical evolution, but also focuses on the traits that are passed on from generation to generation to show how it shapes their social behavior. Also, show Chris researching Jynx on the computer. It s a bit unclear how he s able to come up with the name Tanner too. The story needs a strong midpoint. Consider killing the character of Dorothy to provide for a stronger payoff and add more tension (consider that it looks like a suicide) or kill someone else. This type of story really needs a midpoint point inciting event that changes things for Chris and takes the story in a new, but related direction. The finding of Gabriel, around the midpoint, helps to take the plot in a new, but related direction, but the story needs a more compelling plot beat, something that s scary/exciting (a death) to push Chris into the direction of Gabriel.
