1. Story Essay Examples
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Story Essay Examples" can be both challenging and
rewarding. The difficulty lies in the intricate balance required to seamlessly weave together
narrative elements, analysis, and personal reflection. One must navigate the delicate art of
storytelling while simultaneously adhering to the structural and stylistic conventions of academic
writing.
Firstly, the process demands a keen understanding of narrative techniques. You must not only
choose compelling examples but also present them in a coherent, engaging manner. Striking the
right balance between descriptive storytelling and analytical reflection poses a unique challenge.
It requires a delicate interplay of creativity and critical thinking.
Moreover, the essay requires a thoughtful selection of examples that not only serve as illustrative
anecdotes but also offer meaningful insights. The challenge is to choose stories that resonate
with the audience, effectively conveying the intended message or theme. This involves a deep
understanding of the topic and a discerning eye for selecting narratives that align with the essay's
purpose.
Additionally, maintaining a cohesive structure can be demanding. The narrative must flow
seamlessly, transitioning between different examples and reflections without losing the reader's
attention. Struggling to find the right structure may hinder the overall impact of the essay,
making it essential to carefully plan and organize the content.
Furthermore, capturing the reader's interest from the beginning to the end poses its own set of
challenges. Crafting a captivating introduction, sustaining momentum throughout the body, and
delivering a powerful conclusion require a mastery of both storytelling and persuasive writing
skills.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Story Essay Examples" is a multifaceted task that demands a
synthesis of creativity, analytical prowess, and effective communication. While the process may
be challenging, the end result can be immensely rewarding, offering a rich exploration of
storytelling techniques and their broader implications.

2. Flood In Europe Essay
Floods in Europe
In February 1995 large areas of the mainland countries in Europe were deluged with
water, and floods threatened the local people and towns. The River Rhine and its
many tributaries burst their banks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany,
Its tributaries include the rivers Meuse, Main Moselle and Ruhr. The floods were
devastation to Europe, killing people and animals, and destroying farmland and
building developments.
If you had lived in Holland at the time you would have been in big trouble. It is a
country where 75% of the land is below sea level and as a result, 15,000,000 live
below sea level. The dykes and levees were the only life savers the Dutch had. ...

There was too much water, and it came all too quickly. Some of the water was
retained by the soil, some was absorbed by vegetation, and a small percentage
evaporated. One may think that the dykes are sufficiently high to hold the huge
amount of water however they couldn t hold the amount that was produced from
the mountains and rainfall. Dykes are made from sand and clay and act like a
sponge, absorbing water. The longer the exposure there is a greater risk that the
dyke might collapse. If the dykes did collapse the land would be submerged under 20
feet of water.

their farmland. However many dairy farms didn t want to lose their cows in the
floods. So most people decided to take these cows in transport to their next
destination. When they started off on their journey, everyone was evacuating too,
so as you can imagine the traffic was awful. It took over 8 hours for some people to
arrive to their destination and by then the cows were stressed and tired. Due to
their condition they didn t produce very much milk and the owners lost even more
money. In some cases if you were very unlucky the people before using the trucks to
carry their cattle had foot disease. So some cows caught the disease and couldn t
produce any more milk, so the people lost even more money!

The privilege of being young is having infinite possibility to become whatever I
want from princess to T Rex at least in my imagination. In my own fantasy world, I
crowned myself as an elf queen who reigns over the forest nearby my house.
Everyone even our parents, neighbors, teachers looked upon their majesty and
respected her sovereignty ever since her coronationceremony. As a royal guardian
and a ruler, her daily routine included looking around her territory, playing with
trees, showing everyone how beautiful she is and inviting other magical creatures to
her castle. Dressed in pink satin dress, holding a star shaped wand, she marched
down her own runway every day. By the time the elf queen reached the age of eight,

4. The Seven Years War And Florida s Independence
Florida
Ponce de Leon, who led the first European voyage to Florida in 1513, claimed
Florida as Spain s territory but the French were also interested in the territory,
which led them to build Fort Caroline in 1564. Because Spain wanted to show
France that they owned the territory, they destroyed Fort Caroline in 1565 while
building their own: St. Augustine. Not only were the French interested but
England as well. This resulted to the Seven Years War and the French and Indian
Wars. In 1763, under the Treaty of Paris, England gained Florida but soon lost it to
Spain in 1783 after they recognized Florida s independence. When the U.S. made
the Louisiana Purchase from France, Florida s state was unclear. There were many
boundary disputes in Florida and in order to rebel against Spain s claim of
ownership, Americans decided to settle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Southern people advocated for slavery, which was mostly supported by the

5. The Milton Friedman Rule
OTHER SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENT OR CONTRIBUTION IN ECONOMICS
FIELD
Other significant contribution or achievement of Milton Friedman in economy field
is in economics scholarly. He had introduced a few of rule, function and hypothesis
such as Friedman Rule, Friedman s K percent Rule, saving utility function and
permanent income hypothesis.
Friedman Rule
Friedman Rule was proposed by Milton Friedman in 1969. This rule is about
monetary policy. Money is anything that generally accepted as payment for goods
and service, but it is costless to provide. So, money is valuable for consumers and
businesses (Rognlie,2011).
Friedman rule suggests setting the nominal interest rate at zero. This is due to the
logic of opportunity cost of holding money by private sector which is nominal
interest rate should equal to the social marginal cost which is creating additional fiat
of money. This means marginal cost of producing additional fiat of money is zero.
Thus, nominal interest rate practically is zero.
Well, the real interest rate always is positive and this means we have a long term
deflation. This also implies that central bank should make the rate of deflation same
to rate of real interest. As the rate of deflation equal to the real rate of interest, people
who hold the money would not loss in value of money when inflation happened.
Friedman s K percent Rule
Friedman s k percent rule is proposed by Milton Friedman after Friedman s rule.
This rule is the way to control long term
6. The Theme Of Lust In Canto V Of Dante s Inferno
As Dante, the pilgrim, makes his way through the second circle of hell in Canto V
of Dante s Inferno, he comes across the lustful. Lust is a very strong sexual desire.
Having the desire to have sex is not a sin, but it becomes sinful when the desire is
defected. This means, if the sexual desire is out of context such as desiring another
married man or woman, it then becomes a sin. In Dante s Inferno, Francesca da
Riminitells a story of her and Paolo Malatesta and how lust and adultery lead to
their deaths. For the first time in Hell, Dante feels pity for a soul and I believe he
reacts this way to her story because he puts himself in their shoes and feels their pain.
Dante empathizes with Francesca because this is now her eternal fate.
While making their way through, Dante asks Virgil to speak with the two doves
who seem to be left by themselves. They are Francesca and Paolo. Francesca
beings to tell Dante why they are there in Hell. Francesca, was married to Giovanni
Malatesta when she and his brother, Paolo, were reading Lancelot and shared a kiss
because the words of the book set the mood. While kissing, her husband, his brother,
Giovanni walked in and killed the two. Before Francesca finishes the story, Dante
begins to cry because he is so sympathetic to the lovers.
Then I turned to them again to speak and I begun: Francesca, your torments make
me weep for grief and pity, but tell me, in that season of sweet sighs, how and by
what signs did Love acquaint you with your hesitant desire? (Canto 5.115 120).
Dante expresses this to show how sorry for her or for them he feels.
In another sense, I feel as Francesca kind of manipulates him in her language. The
way Francesca speaks in my opinion is someone of charismatic. She tells Dante the
story in a way she never blames herself, but she blames love and the book for her
wrong doings. For example, Love, quick to kindle in the gentle heart, seized this
man with the fair form taken from me. The way of it afflicts me still. Love, which
absolves no one beloved from loving, seized me so strongly with his charm that, as
you see, it has not left me yet. Love brought us to one death. (Canto 5.100 106).
Francesca simply blames the adultery her and Paolo

Self care and the well being of individuals in the helping profession are often
overlooked in this fast paced world. When therapistst tell others about their work,
others may respond with It must be difficult listening to people s problems all day.
or Are you psychoanalyzing me? . Comments such as these often come from people
who don t work within the field. However, these responses do raise legitimate
concerns for individuals pursuing a profession in the field. How do people in the
helping profession cope with the stressthat results from their work? How do they
balance and separate professionalroles from personal lives? Although professionals
do experience a sense of reward in their work, one simply cannot avoid the stresses
that come with caring for others.
Learning to deal with these challenges effectively is not only important for
personal wellbeing, but also a necessity as part of ensuring ideal care for clients.
Sherman Thelen (1998) surveyed practitioners to measure the prevalence of
impairment caused by life and work related stresses. This research showed that
during the previous year, at least 20% of helping professionals were dealing with at
least one major life stress. Some of these stressors consisted of serious illnesses,
major relationship issues, financial changes, and work related changes. Of the
professionals surveyed, 0.6% indicated they often worked when too distressed and
acknowledged they did so knowing it could affect their therapeutic

Using Chimeric Faces to Understand the Lateralisation of Emotion

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate which hemisphere is specialised for
the perception of emotion. It was hypothesised that participants will judge
chimeric faces with smile presented in the left visual field as happier more often
than chimeric faces with the smile presented in the right visual field. Twenty six
psychology students were asked to judge chimeric faces with one half being a
smiling expression and the other half with a neutral expression. The images were
presented in their left and right visual field. Over 28 experimental trials the
participants were asked to judge which face they thought looked happier. The
percentage of chimeric faces judged as happier for both left and right visual field
was recorded. The hypothesis was supported: chimeric faces with smile presented in
the left visual field as happier more often than chimeric faces with the smile presented
in the right visual field.

localisation of function in the brain started. At this time Rene Descartes discovered a

11. Essay about Priotities of Gene Therapy
Priotities of Gene Therapy
Gene therapy is a relatively new area of medicine that attempts to apply recent
advances in molecular biology, genetics and biotechnology to the treatment of human
diseases. Gene therapy uses a set of approaches to the treatment of human disease
based on the transfer of genetic material (DNA) into an individual. Gene delivery can
be achieved either by direct administration of gene containing viruses or DNA to
blood or tissues, or indirectly through the introduction of cells manipulated in the
laboratory to harbor foreign DNA. As a sophisticated extension of conventional
medical therapy, gene therapy attempts to treat disease in an individual patient by the
administration of DNA rather than a drug. (1) ... Show more content on

Their successful creation and introduction of an artificial human gene into the T
cells of a young girl suffering from adenosine deaminase deficiency have brought to
life many hopes for treating other genetic diseases. Among the first in that list were
sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, familial
hypercholesterolemia (high serum cholesterol), and some cancers (melanoma,
neuroblastoma, and brain tumors). The idea seemed simple and eloquent. Many
inherited diseases are caused by a single faulty gene, and gene therapy would
deliver the needed gene to a person s cells, which would then begin producing the
missing essential substance. By 1995, there were 106 clinical trials (studies in
humans) approved to test gene therapy for some of these diseases, and AIDS in the
United States. (1) A number of impressive applications of the new recombinant DNA
technology and the molecular pathology of single gene disorders have been
introduced.
The U.S. Government was providing annually about $200 million in research grants
for gene therapy projects. To evaluate the effect of these investments, a special panel
was set up by the National Institute of Health. Report and recommendations of the
panel released in December 1995 summarized the recent progress of research in gene
therapy. It also stated that the importance of this research for clinical

MY THOUGHTS
I feel like Simmons should have received the death penalty because he was well

Changing Perspective on Gender Inequalities in Schools
Gender equality is a broad topic with many different angles that can be examined.
For my part in this project I chose to research the changing perspective on gender
inequalities in schools. I wanted to find out what people really felt about the fairness
of their education, and whether they really felt they had been shortchanged in the
learning process because of their sex. My results were generally what I had expected
to find, though there were a few interesting findings along the way. I used an article

When asked how they felt overall about the equality of their education based on
gender, only two people responded that they felt there had not been fair treatment
between the sexes, these two will be discussed in depth later. Every respondent said
that they had not changed the beliefs they held during school. However, the
inequalities became evident in later questions that were designed to bring out
impressions about certain situations and asked for additional comments. Of the
twenty four respondents graduating from
1968 to 1979, twenty two claimed overall equality in their education, of these, nine
indicated some minor tendencies toward gender biased policies in teachers
classrooms. All but one of these nine said the males had received some form of
favoritism regardless of their own gender.
The recent graduate group results showed opposite results. Of the eighteen people
who graduated since 1995, all claimed overall equality (a sign of progress),
however all but two claimed that the girls were given advantages over the males (a
sign of too much progress). The two who did not claim female benefits felt their
education was equal. The interesting age group was the elders. They were hesitant to
respond to my questions. After great amount of reflection, there was an agreement
that men were given a better opportunity for success. These people struggled to

The Church of England was different from other Protestant sects in many ways. It
was established by King Henry VIII so he could divorce his older baron wife and
so he could marry his young new mistress. He needed to break away and make his
own church because the Catholic Church would not allow for him to get a divorce.
They said that Henry and his first wife had been married for too long to get a
divorce. The Catholic Churchalso encouraged the act of buying indulgences.
Indulgences were a piece of paper you would pay for basically taking off some of
your years in purgatory. Purgatory was kind of like the waiting room between heaven
and hell. There was a man named Martin Luther who didn t agree with the act of

spermaceti, whale bones, sperm, and whale oil. The Native Americans used whaling
for tribal purposes. The colonist in NEw ENgland hunted whales for baleen and oil.
Whaling also gave them better burning candles. This is how the number of hales
began to decrease as time went on.
Moreover, whales were hunted for mainly oil, because of this, colonists were hunting
whales for half a century. To make the oil they carried pots on their ships, they would
cook the oil after they hunted the whale and they put them in barrels. Since the oil
was extremely hot, it wouldn t spoil, so it was good for long voyages. Whale teeth
were also used. The sailors would use the teeth to pass the time. They made things for

16. Carl Jung s Theory Of Psychology
Sigmund Freud along with Carl Jung are among the main pioneers of psychology,
they can be viewed as the early founders and most influential thinkers, as they
contributed significantly to the modern science of psychology. They earnestly
searched to understand the human psychological frailties in their entire lives trying to
address and understand the human s internal changes and struggles. This paper will
compare and contrast Feud s theories to those of Jung. Though their theories differ,
they have had a great impact on our discernment of the human mind and their
influences have led to the successful development of the wide range of human
distress (Bluhm, 2006).
Freud s point of view of the entire human psyche was from a sexual perspective; his
theory assumed that the human mind had three basic components: the id (instincts),
the ego (reality) and the superego (morality). The components were often conflicting
and they usually shaped the personality. His theory is also denoted to as
psychoanalytic theory of development since Sigmund Freud is the father of
psychoanalytic psychology.
On the other hand, Jung developed his theory based on the belief that human psyche
has undeniable religious nature. He theorized that people should be taught to
consolidate the conscious mind and the unconscious with a process he termed
individuation, for them to become whole. Jung had a wide knowledge of religion,
mythology, and philosophy, and in particular the symbolism connected to the

According to the National Association of Social Workers (2016), social workers
help people overcome some of life s most difficult challenges: poverty,
discrimination, abuse, addiction, physical illness, divorce, loss, unemployment,
educational problems, disability, and mental illness. They help prevent crises and
counsel individuals, families, and communities to cope more effectively with the
stresses of everyday life . Through the lens of a professional, these are critical
qualities and experiences that assist social workers in understanding people and the
community, which they live in. In addition, it is very significant for social workers
to identify and familiarize themselves with the neighborhood s history, culture,
customs, and issues and most importantly, the people. By being conversant with the
background information, it will help social workers communicate more effectively
while in the process of building and establishing relationships with the people in the
community. Some fundamentals to social work in a community are education and
indicators of psychological and emotional distress. As reported by the website
Helpguide, the key is to find a supportive relationship with someone who is a good
listener . A good listener will listen to the feelings behind your words, and won t

19. Fate And Free Will In Oedipus Tyrannus And Jean-Paul
Sartre
From philosophers to religious scholars, from thinkers to the everyman, the nature
of the will of man has been a subject of reflection for millennia. More specifically,
mankind has wondered if a life is solely under the control of the individual, or is it
controlled or manipulated by an exterior force. Many have explored this topic, and
have considered its countless implications. Unsurprisingly, this debate of fate versus
free will has been a subject of many works of literature. Two compelling examples of
literature that explore this theme are Sophocles tragedy Oedipus Tyrannus and Jean
Paul Sartres one act play No Exit. Despite being written centuries apart, these two
writers examine the subject in an interesting manner, such that they both cause the
audience to consider both sides of the debate, and furthermore consider how their
actions affect their everyday lives.
In the first place, it must be acknowledged that the setting of these two works of
literature plays a significant role in developing the theme of man s will against
fate. Yes, Oedipus Tyrannus takes place in Thebes, but the most overlooked and
obvious point is that the events of the narrative take place on Earth. As opposed to
No Exit, which is set in Hell. This contrast of settings is crucial, as Sartre implies
that on Earth man has complete control of his actions and therefore a semblance of
free will; while in Hell, man has no control of his life or actions, because everything
is preset for his eternal
20. Stereotypes In Social Psychology
Social psychology is a science that study social thinking, how we perceive
ourselves and others, judgement we make and our attitudes. With the term social
psychology welcomes a theme of social situation that impacts how we as a group
think including setting and context. In social psychology, a stereotype is a thought
that can be adopted about specific types of individuals or certain ways of doing
things. Stereotypes are used in all different types of manners such as positive,
negative, environment, different races, culture, ethnic groups, etc. The use of
stereotypes is a major way in which we simplify our social world; since they reduce
the amount of processing (i.e. thinking) we have to do when we meet a new person.
By stereotyping we conclude that a person has a whole variety of characteristics and
abilities that we assume all members of that group have. Stereotypes lead to what we
social characterization, which is one of the reasons for prejudice attitudes (i.e. them
and us mentality) which leads to in groups and out groups (McLeod). A... Show more

However, most people do depend on on stereotypes nearly every day to help them
function in society. For example, say a woman is walking home late from work
alone in the city at night. Walking toward her is a group of young men talking
loudly and acting rowdy. Her first thought in her mind is I don t feel safe, let me
go somewhere that I know I would be safe . The woman crosses the street and enters

21. Solar System Lab Report
There a many hypotheses explaining how the solar system formed. In science class,
we learned about three hypotheses explaining the formation of the solar system. We
learned about the nebular, protoplanet, and planetisemal hypotheses. In the nebular
hypothesis, the solar system started out as a cloud. The cloud of gas cooled and
shrank into a sphere. The law of conservation of angular momentum caused the
sphere to spin faster. Centrifugal forces caused some of the matter to fly off of the sun
. This matter formed a ring around the sun. The matter that was originally a part of
the sun cooled and condensed into the planets. One problem with the nebular
hypothesis is that an unreasonably large amount of gravitational pull would be
needed to condense the rings of matter into planets. Also, the Sun, although
containing most of the mass in the solar system, has only a small fraction of the
angular momentum.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It started five billion years ago as a cloud of dust and gas about 10 billion
kilometers in diameter that rotated slowly in space. This massive cloud shrank over
time because of its own gravitational pull, or because of an exploding passing star.
Most material collected in the center and it rotated faster as it shrank. Compression
of the material made it hotter, which started hydrogen fusion, forming the sun. Ten
percent of the material in the cloud formed a disk around the sun. Due to friction in
the disk, most of the mass collected into whirlpools. These whirlpools shrank to form
protoplanets. These protoplanets became planets and moons. Excess material
became comets, asteroids, and meteoroids. A problem with this hypothesis is that it
would be unlikely for a passing star to explode, because stars are very far apart from
each other. Also, as with the nebular hypothesis, it would take an unreasonable
amount of gravitational pull for the disk to condense into
22. Biological Agent Essay
Following exposure, Biological agents may remain in the air and cause problems
after their release. This means that the virus could spread before we even know that it
has spread.
One very easy way of launching a biological attack is through the use of our aviation
transportation system. At airports such as the George Bush Intercontinental Airport
in Houston, Texas, the Miami International Airport in Miami, Florida, the Los
Angeles International Airport in Los Angeles, California, and the John F. Kennedy
International Airport, in New York, which are gateways to every major city in the

In this regard, the biological threat is greater than a nuclear one. Acquiring deadly
pathogens, and turning them into biological weapons by making them human
transmissible, has less technological issues than to steal or produce weapons grade
uranium or plutonium and assembling it into an improvised nuclear device.

Prevention Strategy
A one size fits all approach cannot be utilized when planning for any type incident
involving a widespread disease and planning for a bioterrorist attack using smallpox
is no exception. Each community is going to present its own unique, challenges,
resources and needs. All of these characteristics must be considered when planning
for an efficient and effective response to a bio attack involving smallpox.
(www.cdc.gov) The public health departments that are at the local and state level
should work with hospitals, clinics, public and private organizations, along with the
local community leaders and create a smallpox emergency response plan that
involves the community s participation that is integrated with state and federal plans.
Emergency response planning to terrorism in the past was about bombings and
chemical attacks. But those require a more sophisticated delivery system, and
terrorist groups are looking for a quieter strategy. Attacks involving biological agents
are more covert and unless we discover the plot and alert the population early,

African slaves were brought to North America which it began in Virginia and
British colonies are the one who brought slaves on ships. Most of the slaves start in

period of the 19th century, there was a slave code law that said about the rights and

24. Civil Rights And Affirmative Action
2. Affirmative action was intended to provide equal opportunities for members of
minority groups and women in education and employment. I disagree with this
because I feel as if the only reason affirmative action needed to be started was due to
the way Whites treated people of color back in the day. Affirmative actiondoes not
force a company to hire someone who happens to be a minority if they don t meet
the job requirements. Affirmative action policies are policies an organization
actively takes place in the intent to improve opportunities for historically excluded
groups in American society. This action was brought to us in the 1960 s Civil
Rights Movement, a time where blacks or anyone of color were looked at as
basically trash. The act
25. Literary Devices In Neglect By R. T. Smith
Neglect: to fail to care for properly. This one word can give one feelings of despair,
wretchedness, desolation, and even more. What a perfect word to describe the
destruction of something loved most dearly. R.T. Smith is an award winning poet,
author, and editor. In Smith s Neglect , a man is sharing his sorrows with the
reader because of the death of his beloved Red Delicious apple tree. Throughout
this poem, the author is attempting to explain his emotions of regret and sorrow by
using different literary devices such as imagery and metaphors to compare the death
of his apple tree to the death of a family member or close friend. Towards the
beginning of the poem, the speaker uses imagery when he says, Is the scent of apple

The speaker knows that the smoke from the burning applewood and the red apples
from the tree are all he has left to remember of it. In the sentence ...and Red
Delicious apples redder/ than a passing cardinal s crest or cinders. (lines 23 24), the
protagonist is comparing the apples to a cardinal s crest and cinders from the
woodstove, therefore using a metaphor to describe his feeling of loss. He won t
ever get to see the bring red apples from his own apple tree, so he s lamenting the
fact that the last few are all that he has left. Overall, this poem could have several
different meanings. However, the speaker seems to be despairing over the loss of
his red apple tree, and because of the little metaphors placed carefully throughout the
poem, I feel that he is comparing the emotions of a human death to this death. This
poem just goes to prove that very different circumstances can lead to the same types
of emotions. In a poem like this, where we know nothing but the event that took
place, it allows us to interpret the words in our own ways, allowing room for
anything to happen. Such as the terrible death of a man s red apple

29. The Denver Basin Aquifer System
Groundwater replenishment generally occurs over a time span of hundreds,
thousands, or even millions of years, but withdrawals for human consumption and
agriculture are occurring faster than most aquifers can sustain. On the other hand,
alluvial aquifers respond annually to local streamflow but generally have limited
volume in any given year (Meyer, 2016). The Denver Basin aquifer system is a
noteworthy wellspring of water for South Metro Denver. The framework stretches
out from Colorado Springs in the south to Greeley in the north, from the foothills
close Golden in the west toward the eastern fields close Limon, a surface region of
around 6,700 square miles. It incorporates four aquifers: the Dawson, Denver,
Arapahoe, and Laramie Fox Hills. Every aquifer has diverse water quality,
profundities, and water accessibility (CFWE, 2002). Describe the source of the
groundwater, that is, where is the rainfall and snowmelt that feeds the aquifer coming
from, and what are the best estimates of the travel time from the source to the point
of withdrawal. The Denver Basin has a semi arid atmosphere in which potential
yearly evaporation is around five times bigger than yearly precipitation. Most
precipitation that falls on the land surface keeps running off in streams, is evaporated
from the soil surface, or is consumed by vegetation. Be that as it may, a little part of
the precipitation more often than not permeates downwards and recharges the
groundwater system. In the Denver

32. Summary Of Heroism In Updike
A: Author s and Speaker s Purpose:
Updike is degrading, de romanticizing heroism, the actions of Sammy when he quit
his job by setting the story during the 1960 s which is when people started
abandoning the conservative approach to life and started expressing themselves more
openly. An example of open expression is when Sammy quit his job or how the three
girls walked into the A P in nothing but bathing suits.
Queenie and her entourage are being heroes by breaking the social norms regarding
women at the time which makes them heroines in the eyes of many females. They
break the social norm by going into an A P dressed only in bathing suits and by the
way they behaved.
He intends to show the differences in the lifestyles of each member of the triangular
conflict and how each lifestyle conflicts with each other forcing Sammy to choose
between to live his life like Lengel or Queenie. Lengel being a conservative ancient
man or Queenie being an open minded young person.
Updike satirizes American society s fondness for heroism by having one of their own.
Lengel, shot down a female heroine, Queenie, for standing against the common
stereotype of women having to be extremely conservative.
B: Drawing Inferences:
One would assume that under normal circumstances Sammy and Lengel would be
acquaintances since Lengel is a friend of the family, not Sammy. However, since
Sammy is a teen he must likely despise the idea of growing up to be like Lengel
which leads me to believe that he

short term effects whilst performing the sport and long term from training.

Heart rate increases
Body temperature increase, particularly in the face. Respiration rate increasesMuscle
Pain
Heart rate increase:
During a race your muscles are contracting very frequently and working very hard,
especially the leg muscles, this means a lot of oxygen and waste removal is required
to keep the muscles working. Blood delivers oxygen to the muscles and helps to
remove wastes such as lactic acid, during a race the heart rate increases to perform
these tasks. This affects my sport as the increased heart rate allows muscles to
contract more frequently and last longer without burning and feeling like jelly , by
providing them with more oxygen and waste removal you can therefore work harder
and perform to a higher level.
Body temperature increase:
For muscles to work at a high level and contract frequently they require energy, this
energy is obtained by burning fuels in a chain of chemical reactions. Heat is a by
product of these reactions and they cause the body temperature to increase. Heat is
released predominantly by blood vessels coming to the skins surface, particularly in
the face; this is because much of the heat energy is carried away from the muscles
by the blood. After a race, which is
35. John Peter Berger s Manipulation Of Art
Without our consent, the way we perceive art has been changed over the last
hundred years. Today s art has been manipulated, used as propaganda, and
misconstrued all for the intent of profit and self gain. As humans we naturally try to
fit in, we try to incorporate what we see and how we relate to it and our daily lives.
This is an advantage for major advertisement companies, corporate establishments,
and political campaigns. All of these types of establishments manipulate what we see
around in an attempt to control us. Today and how we perceive art is only to the
benefit of the reproduction that sits before us, through our T.Vs, in magazines, on the
internet, and anywhere subliminal messages can hide. Banksys has his own hidden
messages behind it, and that s anti establishment.
John Peter Berger, November 5 1926 January 2 2017, Berger started his career as a
painter in the 1940 and moved on to become a successful English Art Critic. In his
1972 book, Ways of Seeing, Berger shows a deeper perspective of how society
perceives art, the ways it has changed and even been manipulated in the last
decade. He goes on to explain, We never look at just one thing, we are always
looking at relation between things and ourselves. This is how major advertisement
companies manipulate what we see around us. Berger s claims are very true in
respect to art and the modern era. Berger points out the impact of what we see in our
everyday lives and how it can change the world. If the new

The portrayals of gender and gender roles and attitudes towards war and violence.
The depiction of Robin Hood legend in film changes over time as culture and

toward violence and war. For example, with regards to gender roles The 1938 The
Adventures of Robin Hood shows Marian to be passive and submissive whereas in
the 1991 Robin Hood, Prince Of Thieves she is much aggressive even fighting with a
sword. This difference may be because of the Feminist Movement and Women s
Liberation which had taken place between 1938 and 1991and opportunities for and
ideas about women had changed. In war and violence, the violent sense in the 1938

38. Comparing Gerald Manley Hopkins Spring And Fall
We have all dreamed of having that perfect something; that thing we expected
would be there and would make us happy for a particular moment or for the rest of
our lives. Whether it is traveling to the best vacation spot, attending one s dream

perfect thing. Unfortunately, not all our dreams have turned out the way we had
hoped; sometimes we realize that perfect thing we have always dreamt about does
not exist. This disappointment of realizing that perfect something is not what we
had hoped for can be found in Gerald Manley Hopkins Spring and Fall . Spring and
Fall is written as if the speaker is speaking to a young girl named Margaret. The
poem starts off with the speaker asking the young girl, Margaret, are you grieving

inevitability because It is the blight man was born for , the blight being death (S F,

39. The Generation Of The New Generation
The unknown future may be frightening, but knowing the Millennials are the next
generation of leaders to change the world should be comforting. Millennials make
up the population of society that was born between 1980 and 2000 and in America
there are more millennials right now than baby boomers more than 80 million
(Simmons Duffit). Just like every new generation, the Millennials have been
endlessly criticized by older generations. They have been called lazy, entitled, self
absorbed, social media crazed, technology addicts, privileged, and so much more.
This generation change has drawn more public attention than ever before, maybe
because of the access to widespread information nowadays or maybe because this
time, it s a bigger deal. Millennials aren t afraid to address this topic because they
believe that they can change the world for the better. They want the judgements in
communities and the criticisms in the workplace to stop. They want society to
realize they are not so different from generations before, they are already
transforming life as we know it, and that they will soon be the next generation of
leaders and nothing can change that. Although Millennials can be perceived in
multiple negative aspects, older generations should be open to the unique potential
that this massive generation has to offer as an opportunity to close the gap of
separation and learn to grow from each other. One of the most common criticism of
Millennials is their tendency to be lazy.

41. Mass Starvation During the Great Irish Famine
In Ireland, the Great Irish Famine was a time period of mass starvation, disease and
emigration that was historically dated from 1845 to 1851. This tragedy left a
permanent impact in history to Ireland. I believe that the Irish should be appreciative
that British North America is willing to assist them through this rough time period
because of the poor circumstances back in their home country, they provided them a
place to live a better life, and the people in British North Americawere accepting and
allowing the Irish to continue to practice their culture. In this period of time, citizens
of Irelandsuffered in countless ways. A disease so called Blight is a disease on
crops that caused a catastrophic effect on the Irish since the Irish significantly
depended on potatoes. Potatoes provided a non expensive and healthy diet for many
of the folks, in fact, for two thirds of the entire population of Ireland; potatoes were
an essential to their nourishment. In the summer of 1845, residents shortly noticed
that after the potatoes were dug out; they were decayed, forming a slimy texture and
blackish color. Experts at first suggested that the cause was because of the smokes
that arose from nearby railroad trains or fumes that rose from underground volcanos.
In spite of that, the actual source of this unusual sighting was because of an airborne
fungus that had travelled from Mexico to Ireland. Blight had caused the Irish s
blessed potatoes, to rot underground causing a shortage

Narcissism is the inordinate fascination with oneself; excessive self love; vanity.
The term, narcissism comes, of course, from the Greek myth of Narcissus.
Narcissus shunned all the other nymphs until one of them prayers to the goddess

understand the joy and pain of love. Narcissus went to get a drink of water and saw

Temperamental breakdowns are also a very a common symptom of people with a
narcissistic personality. They are prone to extreme mood swings between self
admiration and insecurity; these people tend to exploit interpersonal relationships. It
is more likely for narcissistic behavior to develop in a male/female in their teens or
young adult hood. Most narcissistic patients are so young and they don t realize that
they have a personality disorder. Family and friends must realize that Narcissism is
not preventable and it s a disorder that must be dealt with care and sensitivity. It is
not best for the family of the patient to take it upon themselves to try and cure the

Rites of passage are key aspects of every culture. According to Window on
Humanity written by Conrad Phillip Kottak, a rite of passage is an individual or
collective transition from one stage in life to another that involves a change in
social status. Although they differ between cultures, every rites of passage includes
three major phases: separation, liminality, and incorporation. Separation is when
the person withdraws from an old social status. For example, when a Maasai boy is
about to begin the process of becoming a man he must shave all of his hair.
Liminality is the stage when one is in between two social statuses. An example of
liminality would be different taboos or transformations of the Maasai boys, like not

recognized as an educated Jewish woman. Before a bat mitzvah, parents hold
responsibility for the child s behaviors. Prior to the three phases, the child is not
obligated to know the commandments and the expectations of a Jewish adult.
Reaching the age of a bat mitzvah signifies becoming a full member of the Jewish
community with the responsibilities that come with it. This ceremony usually takes
place at the age of twelve. I remember having to go to Hebrew school as a child. I
was sent there not only to learn about the religion that I was born into, but also to
eventually prepare for my bat mitzvah. About one and a half years prior to my bat
mitzvah celebration, I was separated from the rest of the students and put into a
special class. In this class I was educated on the meaning of the ten commandments
and was expected to be able to read in hebrew. I also was expected to learn how to
sing a portion of the Haftara out of the Torah which is the Jewish version of the
Bible. During this stage, my parents were expected to pick a date for the
celebration and begin planning. In this stage, I was still considered a little Jewish
girl . Although a bat mitzvah celebration sounded like fun, my experience with the
separation stage was not even a little bit enjoyable. I was very stressed, trying to
understand the commandments, learning how to sing the haftara, preparing for the
celebration, writing and reciting a speech, and picking out a pretty dress to wear.
After a long preparation for the service it was time to share what I have learned
with friends, family, and the people of the synagogue. I was extremely nervous to
perform but I remember feeling beautiful in my gown. The liminality stage began
when it was time to get up in front of the crowd at the synagogue and sing the
haftara and read my speech. This was done in order to
46. A Brief Note On The Khmer Rouge Regime
T By July 1992, the Khmer Rouge regime had taken a stance of non cooperation ,
thus causing no PDK forces to be demobilized. Initially, the regime was on board
for the disarmament process and agreed to allow UN forces to mark minefields
and enter UN vehicles and troops into the area. However, once the process began
and outside forces were to move in, the regime refused to allow the Dutch and
Pakistani forces into the area. The situation was made more stressful by the PDK s
refusal, as demobilization of the other two factions was at a lower rate than
predicted, weakening the mission s success. By 1993, the demobilization mission of
the forces was stopped all together, resulting in the FUNCINPEC and KPNLF forces
to regroup and assemble... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the years between 1993 and 1998 lacked any implementation update of
demobilization in the peace agreement, it is evident that much of what was going on
in the country was due to the halt in the demobilization process.
Discrimination and mass murders of Vietnamese in Cambodia continued, and regional
data on the minority in the country illustrates the need for external actors to
intervene. Hostage situations, ethnic murders, large scale drug smuggling, and an
immigration law that targeted Vietnamese in the country are just some of the issues
occurring in these 5 years. In June 1993 the Cambodia Constitution was adopted and
signed, which established Sihanouk as now King and outlined a series of articles that
aimed to address issues across the board. The articles protected free speech, human
rights of the Khmer citizens, sovereignty of the nation, and economic policy among
many other aspects. The anti Vietnamese discrimination was rising in Cambodia,
often expressed through hate speech or propaganda of people who blamed the
Vietnamese for internal problems of the country. Vietnamese made up about 5
percent of the population, and although attacks and killings lasted for years in this
interim period and was a huge issue, the constitution still seemed to lack efficiency in
addressing this issue. By 1998, the process of demobilization began once again, this
time with a more intense, calculated time table. Along with international financial
47. Support Childrens and Young Peoples Health and Safety
Unit D6011696: Support Children and Young People s Health and Safety. .
Learning Outcome 1: Understand how to plan and provide environments and
services that support children and young people s health and safety. 1.1 In order to
ensure a safe and healthy environment and services for children/young people there
are some factors which need to be taken into account. These include any equipment
which they will be in contact with, such as electrical equipment, anything which
may pose a fire risk, any damaged furniture or fixtures which they may come into
contact with. If there are any cables or anything they may trip over as well as any
spillages or anything they may slip on and fall. All if these issues need to be taken
into account... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Any area which will have children/young people playing in should be assessed
before any child/young person goes into the area to make sure there is nothing
harmful for example any broken equipment. Any issues which are found which
may be a risk to health and safety need to be logged and discussed with other
members or staff so that everyone is aware of any risks. Having a set guideline of
what happens if equipment is broken or damaged, is a good idea so that staff know
how to manage the situation and eliminate any future risk. 2.2 In dealing with an
accident or hazard for example if a child was to trip and fall in the playground,
there are set instructions to follow to ensure the incident is dealt with
appropriately. This would involve taking the child to a registered first aider within
the building to allow the child to receive treatment on any injury they may have
received. An accident for needs to be filled out so that the accident has been
recorded, this then needs to be logged and reported to a senior member or staff. As
well as this the incident will need to be reported to and explain to the parents. An
extra measure would be to carry out an assessment of the playground to make sure
there are no hazards which may have caused the accident such as stones or glass for
a child to trip over or no broken equipment or uneven surfaces which may cause
futures problems. 2.3 When undertaking a health and
48. The Importance Of Education In Jane Eyre
Education serves as an influential period in every child s life, as it teaches young
adolescents skills and principles that allow them to prosper as an adult. The
importance of education transcends through time periods, apparent in the novel Jane
Eyre by Charlotte BrontГ« in which the eight years Jane spends at Lowood
Institution plays an undeniable role in her character development. Jane s time at
Lowood inculcated values of modesty and restraint into her lifestyle and also caused
her to view Godas a guardian figure.
Jane entered Lowood as a stubborn and outspoken child but left as a mature and
independent young adult. The overarching ideology of the school likely explains
her drastic personality change. Mr. Rochester describes Lowood as a Christian
charity school that internalized the value of uniformity such that it was observed in
every arrangement connected with the establishment of Lowood: plain fare, simple
attire, [and] unsophisticated accommodations (42; ch. 4). As all the students were
subject to the systematic and mundane nature of the school, Jane is also forced to
adapt by suppressing her passionate temperament. Over the course of her years at
school she learns to be hardy, patient, self denying and eventually appeared a
disciplined and subdued character (75; ch. 7, 100; ch. 10). The Lowood values of
modesty and restraint later prove to be deeply ingrained into Jane s personality when
she describes her comparatively smaller room as a safe haven in the

50. Television is the Downfall of our Society Essay
Television is the Downfall of our Society
Can you imagine the actual number of people who watch T.V.? People spend more
time before the television, than any other thing. Nowadays, even children, to be
more specific, toddlers spend most of their time watching T.V. Shouldn?t they be
playing with their toys inside or outside, playing in the yard, going to the park for a
walk or to play on the swings and slides? Don?t you remember when you were young
when your parents took you to the park? All kids went to the park, but nowadays, the
park has been substituted with the television and video games (for youth). Maybe
this is also a reason why many of our children are obese. Because the television
producers have created television show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Noton?s World is a very good example of this also, because he performs experiments
and talks about science and math during his show. Shows such as cartoons aren?t
very educational; however, they can be very entertaining for these children. There
are also shows, such as The Alyson?s Sisters, which deals with everyday occurrences
that relate to them. These twins fall into this age group and the show talks of things
that happen to them during and outside of school. For instance, the show talks about
their first date, first dance, first kiss, first boyfriend, Etc. For teenagers, shows such as
The Fresh Prince, Boy Meets World, Hang Time, Sister Sister, Family Matters, and
Change of Heart are being shown on T.V. These shows usually are shown after 3:00
p.m. or during the weekend the time when teenagers are out of school. Teenagers
watch these shows because they can relate to the characters. These characters go
through the same things that teenagers go through. Sometimes, they wish that they
could go through those awesome things that happen to those fictional characters.
However, shows like the Jerry Springer Show, aren?t or shouldn?t be watched by
teenagers, because it forces a way of being and thinking into their minds. If you have
ever watched the Jerry Springer Show, you don?t want to be a guest, or you always
say that won?t happen to me. But nowadays, a lot of teens are doing things that are
seen in talk shows like the Jerry Springer
51. Chorus In Medea
Who is your character and what is your status? My character in the Euripides play
Medea is the chorus. This means I speak along with 3 others as a part of the
chorus. This is a feature of Greek theatre and is used in all forms of it. The chorus
in Greek theatre is used to represent the feelings of the society that surrounds the
character in the play and offers an opinion that may relate to the thoughts of the
audience. Traditionally in Greek theatre there are between 5 and 50 members of
the chorus (all male). The chorus in Greek theatre also traditionally did songs and
dances in unison as they represented on body of people. How will you make clear the
time and period of the play? We made the time and period of which the play is set in

The classical masks with their extremely exaggerated features did this effectively
and meant that the emotion of the character was easily understood from a distance.
What is the situation in the scene? And How might the audience and/or the chorus
respond to the order of events or the action in the scene? In the scene we have
chosen, the situation is that Medea has just sent her sons to Kreusa (the woman
Medea s Husband is marrying) daughter of Kreon (the King of Corinth) with a cape
(that is poisoned) disguised as a wedding gift as a way to ask that the sons may not
be exiled from corinth as what Medea has done is not of their doing and they
should not be punished for Medea s actions. The part we begin with is with the
chorus explaining that the fact that Medea has sent her sons to Kreusa with this gift
shows that she has quashed any hope the people had that she might not go through
with murdering her sons. Then we move on to hear from the Attendant that the gift
was received in grace by Kreusa and that Medea s sons have been freed from exile.
Medea although she expected this news is not happy with the fact that it went as
planned and feels sick within herself that she should do such a thing. Then Medea
sends the Attendant away and as the nurse comes out, before she has a chance to
speak, Medea sends the nurse into the house to bathe her boys. Medea then does a
gruelling monologue fighting with herself on whether or not she should go through
52. English 111 Reflection
English 111 was the first class English class that I have taken since my senior year of
high school in 2004. When I first signed up for the class I figured it was going to
be a bit difficult with reading assignments, I was not expecting to be writing 3 to 5
papers every other week which I found to be hard at first. Within the first couple of
weeks of the class I quickly learned that I had to be able to manage my time carefully
between work, home, and school or that I was not going to do well at all. At first I
found this to be hard due to my career in law enforcement, working 2 weeks of days
and 2 weeks nights makes it extremely hard to get anything done. Once I was able to
manage my time better by using a planner, I was able to focus more... Show more

At first this seemed to be easy but I later began to notice the assignment might
become boring to some reader s. After finishing the assignment I felt good with the
outcome but knew that I could have written a better paper. This was obvious after
the instructor reviewed the assignment and gave me a grade that hit hard. This
showed me first hand that I was a good writer but was far from being prefect. After
picking myself up, I reviewed the notes she provided and made the suggested
changes. I then resubmitted the assignment in hopes the changes were correct and I
would get a final grade that I knew I was capable of earning. After waiting the final
grade was submitted and I had earned a grade I knew I could earn. I know that
without the help of my peers and the instructor this would have not been
53. Why Students Wearing School Uniforms
The issue of uniformity has become of concern to many in our contemporary
societies. Different views have emerged on the same with some criticizing and some
supporting the idea of students wearing uniforms in schools. Below are the discussed
reasons that tend to explain the importance of students wearing uniformsin school.
The prevalence of uniforms in public schools continues to rise in the United States, as
parents and school administrators exert efforts to keep our school s safe
environments. According to the National Center for EducationStatistics, nearly 20%
of all public schools have adopted uniform mandates. (Public School Review).
To begin with, wearing of uniforms by the students increase their safety not only
within but also outside their schools. When these students from a specific school
dress alike, when someone for instance comes, the intruder can easily be identified
thus reducing the chances of say an assassin mingling easily with them to cause
harm. Keeping track of students in field trips is also enhanced which automatically
promotes their safety as they can thus be identified easily from a group and taken to
areas perceived to be secure for them. Frank Quatrone a superintendent in the Lodi
district of the New Jersey in one of his address concerning uniforms in school
comments that when you have students dressed alike, you make them safer. It also
prevents some of them from concealing weapons from their baggy clothing. This
actually illustrates how
54. Throughout The Bible, Jesus Is Known For Eating With The
Throughout the bible, Jesus is known for eating with the marginalized people in the
society. To save the sinners Jesus had to have contact with them. Through these
meals, Jesus created a connection with the marginalized groups and spread the word
of God. The last supper was the last meal that Jesus shared with his disciples before
his crucifixion. In my essay, I will discuss the painting The Sacrament of the Last
Supperby Salvador DalГ. I will discuss how the painting shows the divinity of Jesus,
displays Jesus, and interprets the last supper.
The Sacrament of the Last Supper by Salvador Dali is a large painting in the
National Gallery of Art. In the painting there a twelve sided, windowpane. The larger
windowpane is broken up into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first man has brunette hair and is wearing a white cloak. He taller than the
other two men. The next man s is wearing a yellow cloak. Additionally, just like the
second tallest man on the right of Jesus, a small portion of his neck is visible. The
next man, the shortest of the three men, has white hair and is wearing a white cloak.
He is in the same position as the shortest man on the right side of Jesus. His hands
are visible and clasped.
On the right side, the width, of the table there are two men. The first man has
brunette hair, is wearing a white cloak, and has his head bowed. The second mad
is also a brunette. He is wearing a white cloak. On the left side, the width, of the
table there are two men. Both men are brunette and have their heads bowed. On
the length of the table, with their backs to the viewer, there are two men. The two
men are sitting with a large space between them. They are both wearing long white
cloaks. On the table between these two men there are two small circular loaves of
bread. On the opposite side of the table, in front of Jesus, there is a cup of red wine.
To properly understand the painting, the viewer must understand what the painting is
depicting. Matthew 26:17 30 describes the last supper Jesus shared with his disciples.
The Gospel starts off with Jesus sitting at the table with his twelve disciples, just like
the painting depicts. Jesus tells his disciples that one man will betray him.
55. How Does Machiavelli Recommends To Political Leaders
What are some of the qualities and strategies Machiavelli recommends to political
leaders in the excerpts you read? How does this represent a break with the
past?Machiavelli brought up many controversial and untraditional points regarding
what a kingdom or prince was allowed to do to maintain power. The most extreme,
being that the princewasn t held to any moral code in the practice of maintaining
power. A prince must be prepared to ward off any conflicting power even if it
means breaking traditional moral codes. Other powers, Machiavelli believed,
wouldn t be so kind in combat and a prince must fight back with equal or greater
force. Another point is that it s better to be feared than loved. Machiavelli believed
that love didn t
56. Cultural Observation Essay
Observation: October 7th, 2011 oak court Mall 2:45pm to 4:15pm I walked into
the Oak Court Mall from the second level entrance to observe the young people of
today. As I entered the mall, my first thought was that watching young people
surely could not generate an entire three to five page report. You see, I have never
taken an interest in watching people that I did not have any direct contact with. I
took the escalator down to the first level and I ordered some Chinese food and a
lemonade drink. I found an empty table and proceeded to let the observation begin.
Much to my surprise, I began to pay close attention to a group of very young white
kids at a table about three rows up from where I was sitting. The first thing... Show

Response: It is a very rainy night tonight and I am immediately aware that the rain
has not stopped the flow of people within the mall. There are people continually
walking in with raincoats and umbrellas dripping. As I look around, I realize that
the three groups I observed last week are probably not here tonight. I honestly
think I would recognize them due to how much they stood out to me on my last
visit. It did not take long before I was hit with that same sense of sadness I
experienced last Saturday. All of the young kids and some of the adults gave me
the impression of a desire for attention. Everyone wanted to be noticed in some
way which was obvious by the clothes and accessories they all wore. I even saw a
few mothers whose clothing was not any different from their teenage daughters.
The girls I see here this evening are young teens who are wearing too much
makeup trying to be seen by the young boys who are wearing expensive sneakers
and saggy pants down around their buttocks. A few of the girls I see are young
mothers pushing baby strollers and conversing about the latest fashion. One young
girl I see is pushing a newborn in a stroller while yelling at another toddler about
two years old. She is trying hard to act as though it is not bothering her to have two
young kids all alone but it is apparent that she is has gotten into something much
more than what she bargained for. By the way, did I mention there was no father in
57. Girls And 10 Things I Hate About You
Life as a teenager is arguably the most confusing, difficult, and stressful time in a
person s life. There is a great amount of expectations and insecurities placed on
teens that hinder them from being active participants in the world. They must
undergo all of the changes of young adult life to develop into successful members
of society. In the 1990 s and the 2000 s, two separate films were released that depict
the cultural norms, social expectations, and developments of teenagers at that
period of time. Those two films, Mean Girls and 10 Things I Hate About You,
successfully illuminate the motives and characterizations of young adult life and
the troubles and tribulations that come along with it. 10 Things I Hate About You
is a film about teenagers growing up in Seattle in the 1990 s. The music, clothing,
and slang presented in the movie all emulate the time period in which it was
released. The movie itself is based off of the play by William Shakespeare, The
Taming of the Shrew. Senior, Kat Stratford, portrays an angsty teenager, degrading
any and all typical high school experiences. Her sister Bianca, on the other hand, is
well liked and well desired by two boys in school. She emulates the typical teen girl,
obsessed with fashion, boys, and popularity. As per their father s rules, Bianca
cannot date until uninterested Kat does. Patrick Verona, the mysterious bad boy of
school, is approached by the popular Joey Donner as he offers to pay Verona to take

58. Automobile Safety Essay
People in developed countries all over the world have come to see automobiles as
the preferred way to travel. They allow independence: point to point transportation
without having to rely on others to get where we want to go, to do what we want to
do. Long range travel and short range travel can be undertaken whenever one desires,
either alone or with other people. Citizens of the modern world must often wonder
how people ever lived without automobiles. To think that human beings once traveled
everywhere by foot or on horseback is not just a humorous idea to reminisce; it is
foreign concept that would not allow the social and business cultureof today to exist.
It is almost as foreign a concept that early automobiles were driven ... Show more

Simple mistakes, that everyone makes, can lead to great harm. Even the most
cautious and agile driver cannot avoid every possible stalled car, unexpected
furniture, careless cell phone user, stray animal, unexpected construction, or drunken
driver on the road.
Automobiles are therefore a huge source of potential injury, and even death. In the
year 2001 alone, 37, 795 people lost their lives in automobile accidents in the
United States. That is more people than the populations of many small cities in
America. In fact, that is over ten times more lives lost than were lost in the horrible
attack on the World Trade Center in 2001! On top of that, over two million people
were injured in automobile accidents in the same time frame.3 Neither of these
numbers includes the thousands of pedestrians who are killed or injured every year
by automobiles.
Given the risks involved in the use of automobiles much consideration should be
given to how to best make automobiles safer for humans. Often times, however, safety
is not the first consideration in automobile design. Some automobile manufacturers
do not even look carefully at safety considerations until a new product is sent down
the crash test line and adjusted until it makes government safety requirements. On the
other hand, some manufacturers start car design with safety as their first priority.
What Does Automobile Safety Have to Offer?
