Our Project Is Aimed At Researching How The City Of Phoenix
Our project is aimed at researching how the city of Phoenix might utilize green infrastructure in order
to manage stormwater flows within the city. The project has been framed in a way that focuses on
affordable maintenance costs to the city, green infrastructure s benefit to stakeholders, and the
suitability of the infrastructure for the city s desert climate. The primary focus of the research is to
curate green infrastructure technologies that the City of Phoenix has the ability to implement with its
current resources. Different aspects of this research include identifying the environmental impacts of
the technologies being discussed, identifying different green infrastructure technologies being

The program focused specifically on neighborhoods and households. The case study from Portland,
Oregon was on the city level where reducing and disconnecting paved surfaces took place from 1993
2001 and the city paid homeowners $53 for each downspout they disconnected themselves, or they
offered to provide the service to households for free through volunteer groups. Downspouts need to be
replaced approximately ten years installation and maintenance is minimal besides ensuring the
drainage area is functioning properly and not eroding as well as making sure the spouts are clear of
debris, holes, etc. The total cost of the program was $13 million, and 56,000 downspouts were
disconnected, which remove a total of 1.3 billion gallons of stormwater from their combined sewer
system each year. Permeable pavements . The case studies for permeable pavements were from a
website/organization called Low Impact Development and Portland, Oregon. For pricing, per square
foot, it would be $0.50 to $1.00 for asphalt, $2.00 to $6.50 for porous concrete, $1.50 to $5.75 for
grass or gravel pavers, and $5.00 to $10.00 for interlocking concrete paving blocks (Peterson, 2001).
Permeable pavement will not only take in water but sediment as well so over time the infiltration rate
will decrease so debris will need to be cleared by sweeping or vacuuming. As long as there is a
reservoir that the water can flow to, it

Remedies In Civil Action
A Civil Action starts out quietly and slowly with some cold hard truths about legal remedies. The
remedies are the goal of civil actions that go through the legal system. Having the remedies explained
as to the dollar value of a life depending on age and race and gender was troublesome. While Jan s
explanation made sense, and didn t agree with it and was not a big fan of his at this point. It was
interesting to see how provoking an emotional response from the jury got the higher settlement offer.
It really set the stage for what a gamble the main case in the movie was going to be.

and background of Jan. Then the case comes to light ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is here that Jan points out that the idea of lawsuits is to compel the other side to settle and having a
case go to trial is a corruption of that process and makes everything about what you can prove. One of
the defendants, Beatrice, offers a settlement to cover the expenses of the case to date, which Jan
refuses. Then the other defendant, Grace, who is represented by Cheeseman, wants to talk. They offer
the 8 million dollars that it would take to give everyone a slice of pizza and cover expenses, but Jan
refuses that and asks for what would ultimately be 320 million. Since a settlement cannot be reached

Modern Dance Is Never Static Essay
Dance is never static.
Even if it has specific sub genres with set guidelines and expected characteristics like other forms of
visual and performing arts, dancers have the will to choose not follow them as often and as strictly if
they please. They re allowed the freedom of expression as well as the freedom to even create new
forms of dance.
In fact, this freedom to create is why modern dance came to be. It decided to stem off of classical
ballet then completely break off from its roots and become its own sub genre over the course of
decades. Modern has many similarities to ballet, such as how turns are conducted or how arm strength
is utilized, but they are considered to be enemies by dancers.
I would like to explain more about how these two opponents (modern and ballet) are rather more like
sisters, as well as how modern dance has evolved in the past century and how this change threatens
traditional modern form. I will go into the origins of modern dance and what cultural phenomenons it
is derived from. Furthermore, I would like to debunk its stereotypes and clarify just what modern
dance is.
Modern dance s enemy ballet establishes visual and physical restrictions on day one of class. Dancers
have specific positions of the feet, arms, and hands to follow and hold. They must have pointed feet
when turning or on relevĂŠ (pushing your weight onto the balls of your feet to lift yourself), have his or

Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz
Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz
This part basically focuses on how Mintz tries to tie together the disparate geographies from Northern
Europe up to the Caribbean. It will be documented that Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz
actually discusses and illuminates the economic and social history revolving around sugar
consumption and production in Europe as well as its colonies, predominantly focusing on England.
Mintz examines the structure of power, which made it probable for sugar to actually turn out to be the
first luxury turned necessity that propelled a revolution within lifestyle and diet, principally within the
working class in the upsurge of capitalism and Industrial Revolution. Mintz further argues that the
contribution of sugar to several developed countries has been substantial, and that, as a result of the
history of sugar in England plus the restructuring within the working class, individuals in United
States and the United Kingdom have actually lost their autonomy towards food . From the novel we
will realize that Mintz essentially attempts to bring together the disparate geographies basically from
Northern Europe up to Caribbean. This has purely been due to the production of sugar in Europe. It
has resulted to trades between the neighboring countries which has increased the interactions between
the people through trade contracts. This evident as Mintz argues that The development of plantation
production beyond the Americas represented the

Factors Influencing A Person s Political Views
Self Evaluation
A lot of factor influences a person s political views. A person is influenced by a lot of things that make
them able to take the political stance at a point of life. As an individual, he walks through the pace of
long life to understand the values and beliefs that he has been hearing since childhood. Sometimes it is
really hard for one to decide what political party he wants to support, at that time he can take the
suggestion from his family, friends, media and online quizzes.
The process through which a person develops political beliefs and opinions that influence their
behavior in social spheres is known as political socialization. It is the way in which a person gets his
attitude and belief about politics. Political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Political ideology is a more or less consistent set of views as to the policies the government ought to
pursue. People around the world, at some point, obtain a political ideology in their lifetime. American
politics functions largely in the middle of the political spectrum as a contest between liberals and
conservatives. Liberals believe the government has an important place both as a regulator in the public
interest and to assist those with lower incomes. On the other hand, they still oppose government
intervention in matters of personal autonomy. Conservatives feel there is too much government
interference, particularly at the federal level, in the economy. This belief translates into calls for lower
taxes, reduced spending on social programs, and deregulation. Perhaps because most Americans see
themselves as moderates, politicians find it difficult to stay within the ideological boundaries of
liberalism or conservatism. Many stress their credentials as fiscal conservatives while taking liberal
positions on social issues. Others take a populist line, embracing active governmental intervention in
both economic and cultural spheres. Upon taking the online quiz, the website told me that I was 82%
social democrat, 52% conservative, 50% libertarian, 48% fascist or radical right and 48% communist

Animal Welfare ( Dairy Cattle ) Code Of Welfare Essay
Animal Welfare (Dairy Cattle) Code of Welfare 2014 Overview This code gives animal owner and the
person in charge of the animals guidelines of minimum standard of care and management taken when
caring for dairy cows in New Zealand. The code of welfare for dairy cows would be especially
important as the dairy industry is becoming increasingly important in New Zealand, the high demand
in dairy product would mean more farmers would have to provide adequate care and welfare for the
ever increasing dairy cows produced. This code gives the owner or the person in charge of the animals
a list of 6 minimum standards to follow whilst managing dairy cows, the minimum standards listed
includes the stockmanship, the physical environment, health, and husbandry practices. The owner or
person in charge of the cattle must follow the minimum requirements, the failure to comply to the
minimum standards may be used as evidence to prosecute under the Animal Welfare Act (1999).
Positive Attributes The code of welfare for dairy cows at part 4.4 states that cow and calves must be
able to lie down and rest for a sufficient amount of time per day to meet their behavioural needs
(Placeholder1). This is proven to an important aspect while managing dairy cows as providing an open
paddock for the cows to lie down and rest would increase the cows well being and comfort as well as
increasing production (D. B. Haley, J. Rushen, A. M. de PassillĂŠ, 2000), as opposed to cows being

Sexism In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein (1818), the characterization of women is based on the rigid gender
division in eighteenth century Geneva. Shelley depicts the social status of women in contemporary
London by presenting the female characters as ineffective to the public sphere. Male characters in
Frankenstein are categorized as scientists, politicians and explorers, leaving women confined to the
home as mere companions, wives and often caregivers. By upholding women s views of the familial,
Shelley illustrates the patriarchal social system, which favor men over women. The division highlights
Shelley s portrayal of women s passivity; hence the disposal of the female characters in the novel

Caroline entered the chamber before the danger of infection was past resulting in fatal consequences.
Devon Hodges speaks to Caroline s figure of feminine textuality when she writes, Shelley s characters
do not escape traditional female destinies (4). Indeed, Caroline embraces her destiny of a mother and
caregiver. In Frankenstein, despite the efforts to quarantine Elizabeth, Shelley displays Caroline s
dedication to a caregiver. Before dying, Caroline s desire lay in the union between Victor and
Elizabeth. In turn, her desire for the marriage sheds lights on female s yearning for the familial.

On Compassion Analysis Essay
Compassion at Play
Are people born with a complete quandary when it comes to compassion or is it something that has
always been there? Barbara Lazear Ascher, born in 1946, writes, On Compassion. Having lived in
New York City, Ascher is able to take first hand examples from the city to show the affection people
have towards each other. Ascher is able to illustrate that compassion is something that has to be taught
because of the adversity at people s heels by including tone, persuasive appeals, and the mode of
comparing and contrast in her essay, On Compassion. The tone of Ascher s essay can best be
described as thoughtful and reflective. Ascher is able to achieve this tone in her quote, He wears a

She has not only witnessed this once, but TWICE she has seen this woman feed the man. The readers
are able to trust that she witnessed these events herself because they are realistic events, and happen in
everyday life. Compassion is a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by
misfortune. Ascher appeals to pathos in her essay in order to compel the readers to feel compassion
towards the victims. She contributes to pathos in her quote, The man s grin is less the result of
circumstance than dreams or madness (46). The audience feels for this young man and the tough
circumstances he is going through. The man is dressed so poorly that he is being mistaken as a mad
man by the spectators. The readers instantly feel empathy for this man in the form of compassion.
Ascher appeals to logos in order to define compassion in her quote, For the ancient Greeks, drama
taught and reinforced compassion within a society (48). Ascher includes the real facts about the
Greeks in her essay. When she includes these facts, it enables the readers to validate that compassion
is something that is taught, whether it is through plays or having to see someone in a worse condition
than they are, compassion is still attained. Ascher utilizes examples in her essay, On Compassion to
show the pity people are taking on the ones who are in a painstaking position. The author supplies her
essay with the mode of comparing and contrasting in her quote, The object of Greek

World War I And The United States Essay
World War I was unlike any other war before it. The total casualties reached about about 38 million,
with over 17 million deaths, 7 million of them being civilians, and 20 million wounded. World War I
was well known for the extensive system of trenches from which men of both sides fought, the lethal
new technologies unleashed such as poison gas, and for the battles under the sea and in the skies. At
first, the two sides consisted of the Allies: France, Britain, and Russia, against the Central Powers:
Germany, Austria Hungary, and Turkey. As the war carried on however, the tides turned towards the
Central Powers. Needing help, the Allies turned towards America for assistance. The United States
however, were very reluctant at first, sticking to their public policies. Trading with both sides of the
belligerents, the United States did not want to halt their booming economy, and the large number of
protests by immigrant citizens made joining the war even less desirable. It was only after Britain s
decision to blockade Germany, Germany s announcement to resume unrestricted submarine warfare,
and the British discovery of the Zimmerman Telegram that the United States finally decided to join the
war. When World War I began, The United States made it clear that they didn t want to be involved in
the war, and maintained their neutrality. Isolationism was a long American tradition, embraced since
the earliest days of the country. In fact, during the century following the signing

Disadvantages Of Americanization
Although America was able to gain much political power through its ever growing economy there
were many social costs during the process of growth and wealth creation, which are the negative and
undesirable effects of large US corporations (Galambos, 933). One disadvantage of the American
corporate system is the tendency towards monopolization within the market (Galambos, 933). This, in
turn, will create oligopolies within industries and thus there will be little chance or incentive for
competition (Galambos, 937 38). Little plurality of firms dominating the economy is problematic as
economic power is so closely tied to political power (Galambos, 937 38). Now, in an international

The author describes the adaptation of European countries to this new American challenge of
increased efficiency to promote growth and profit within their economy (44). The incentive has been
to catch up with American prosperity by adopting certain features that characterize huge profit
generating corporate firms that are the ones responsible for the ever increasing growth of the US
economy (44). However, he highlights that in actual times, although the European corporate system
has successfully adopted parts of the American style corporate structure, it has hybridized them with
socialist values and features (44). European states have been selective in the process of doing so in
order for the system to work successfully within national preconditions and at the same time ensuring
it would not undermine the social welfare that characterizes European economies

The Function of Monstrosity in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Frankenstein is a piece of Gothic literature and was written in the Romantic era. It was published in
the 19th Century and was written by Mary Shelley. Frankenstein was considered to be one of the most
evil horror stories of its time; it shocked and surprised its readership due the controversial issues that it
addressed. It was inconceivable that an author could engage with the idea of creating a being from
body parts and bringing it to life. This raised many issues such as, should we have the right to play
God?

There is a build up of tension and suspense within the end of the fourth and the very beginning of the
fifth chapter. It is only in the culmination of his work that Frankenstein fully appreciates, to his horror,
that it is not a beautiful being that he has created, but a monster. His realization of this makes him very
anxious and apprehensive and he decided to ignore the situation and not deal with the consequences of
this actions. The following quotes show his despondency and alarm and how he reacts to the situation,
How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe…
The different accidents of life are not so changeable as the feelings of human nature.
The beauty of the dream vanished.
These quotes all show that he dreamt of creating something magnificent, but instead created
something monstrous.
His reactions to his creation could be considered hideous or shocking, because he chose to create this
being of his own volition. Now that the being is finished, he is disgusted and shocked; it seems as if he
created it with his eyes closed. He has chosen to reject his creation and not nurture or embrace it. This
is inexcusable as it is comparable with a mother rejecting her newly born child.
Frankenstein has now deserted the monster and hides away in fear of its return. The monster has been

At the beginning of our time on this earth, mankind was learning to stand up. Upon walking a good
many steps on this world, mankind moved across the lands living off of its fruit and meat. Then we
decided to stop moving and mankind developed cultivation skills to better serve us. Since then
mankind has grown by leaps and bounds over the kingdoms and empires of old. Growth was spurred
by conquest. It was almost as if man was born to kill or be killed. Although riddled with turmoil the

This brings me to my first point: cost. The ABM appeared to have all the characteristics of a solution
in search of a problem. This characteristic shows up all too often in defense research and development
programs, especially in the field of nuclear weaponry. A possibly fundamental reason why the ABM
decision came up in 1969 was that ten years earlier Secretary of Defense McElroy, in dividing up the
space and missile roles and missions among the three services, assigned the ABM to the Army as its
only sophisticated missile program. This decision created a situation in which for many years the lives
and careers of many able persons had been closely entwined with the life and fate of one single
program: the Army s ABM. This not only included the civilians employed in the program office and
by the main contractors, it also included uniformed personnel and a slew of part time advisers at all
levels. The testimony given by persons who were part time advisers to the defense establishment and

Walmart.com is trying to reach; recent research indicates that profitability is closely related to local
strategy. (Harvard Business Review, September 2005) Local environments still have different tastes,
business practices, cultural norms and other characteristics. Simply offering internet connection to
those customers may not be enough to create consistent online sales form them. Local retailers may
server these segments better and offer customized services due to their small customer base.
Therefore, Walmart.com is facing two obstacles: local retailers and customer buying habits. Changing
them may prove to be a difficult undertaking. SWOT analysis approach Strengths: 1. Walmart.com has

Berger s Views On The Dialectic Character Of Society
1. I think the dialectic character of society refers to the mentality that individuals have about the
reality of the way the society is functioning. Berger mentions how this character is blind, and how it
needs to be addressed so that individuals will observe actual reality (Berger 4). Due to a variety of
cultures within society, the dialectic reality is still being disputed. Man has his own thought process,
but people are told only to believe what society has shown us. Man created society, but society did not
create man. However, man is often viewed as a product of society because this is our everyday reality.
2. According to Berger, the three steps that constitute the process of world building are externalization,
objectivation, and internalization. Externalization is man interacting with society being an essential
step so that he can develop. Objectivation is man continuing to shape society by developing new
things in it that help shape culture, for existence: language. Internalization is man using the structures
of the objective world to help form his own thoughts and opinions. These all maintain a stable society
with a similar reality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Historically, anthropologists have focused their research on foreign cultures, often considered exotic
to westerners. Yet, globalization has created a continuously shrinking world and is increasingly
providing sovereignty for developing nations, which may impede research opportunities for modern
anthropologists. In their book, The Cocktail Waitress, James Spradley and Brenda Mann explained
how this semi recent issue threatens trust and acceptance in these foreign communities and obstructs
unique opportunities and research funding. Luckily, there are countless subcultures in America s back
yard, in which most are eternally evolving, providing a multitude of research opportunities for
anthropologists. Alcohol establishments are home to a plethora of subcultures that display clashing
and harmonious interactions enjoyable for even the untrained human observers. Noticeably, bars
contain the local regulars, occasional boozers, business men, college students, and multiple others, all
there for a common goal, leisure. Whether the responsible sober driver, moderate drinker, or
completely inebriated, every patron has exchanged workday courtesies for uninhibited behaviors.
Additionally, lounges often exhibit social interactions between men and women which provide
ethnographers opportunity to study the cultural roles considered masculine or feminine within our
society and subcultures. Formerly, women employed in alcohol establishments were prohibited from
managerial, bar keeping, or

Tertiary Structure
Task 2
a) The tertiary structure refers to the structural arrangement of amino acids that are found far away
from one another along the polypeptide chain. The tertiary structure is overall a three dimensional
shape of a protein molecule. It will bend and twist to achieve maximum stability. The shape of a
tertiary structure is made when the secondary structure folds in on itself and is held in place by many
bonds and interactions formed by the R groups in the amino acid chain. The bonds and interactions
involved are hydrogen bonds, ionic bonds, hydrophobic interactions and disulphide bonds. These
bonds and interactions are located in different areas of the tertiary structure, the hydrogen bonds are
located inbetween polar R groups, ionic bonds are located between charged R groups, hydrophobic
interactions are located between nonpolar R groups and disulphide bonds are formed generally in the
endoplasmic reticulum by oxidation . Hydrogen bonds may form between different side
chain groups.
Hydrophobic interactions are brought about in an aqueous site. The tertiary structure is held together
mainly by interactions that are located at the R groups.
A protein with a tertiary structure could be a myoglobin protein. The myoglobin protein has a alpha
helix. Bonds between the side groups of the amino acid are responsible for holding together the
tertiary structure of myoglobin. The myoglobin is found in the ... Show more content on

peptide chains that have formed a working protein. It has more than 2 peptide chains and creates a

Literary Analysis of Dr Heidegger s Experiment
In the short story Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne, there is a great deal of literary
elements used to enhance the story. For example, imagery is used to draw the reader s attention further
into the story by having them see it happening in their head and allegory is used to pull the reader
away from the story by referencing things that happened somewhere else. While these two literary
elements are both used to magnify different parts of the story, as well as counterbalance each other, the
literary device that this essay will be focused on is symbolism. While it appears in many parts of the
story one of the most obvious uses of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nathaniel Hawthorne introduces him by stating that he had wasted his best years, and his health and
substance, in the pursuit of sinful pleasures. So what immoral acts did he commit? It is never
outrightly stated but through his actions the reader can assume that in his prime he chased after
women like some people chase after their dreams and after he got tired of running, he used alcohol to
rehydrate. Due to these characteristics the Colonel represents lust. Immediately after the fountain
water takes its effect on the group, Colonel Killigrew turns his attention to the female potion drinker.
After ogling at her he remarks My dear widow, you are charming! It is stated that all of the men once
pined for her but their newfound youth gives them a newfound strength and also helps them to forget
everything they learned by growing old. A fight erupts over who will win the lady s favor. The fight
soon ends with no winner but it does not really matter because the men were only fighting due to their
characteristics of greed, lust, and arrogance.
The next visitor to be described was a Mr. Gascoigne. It is said that Mr. Gascoigne was a ruined
politician, a man of evil fame. Following the initial disbelief, he drank the water from the fountain of
youth and found that it brought back the body, mind, and beliefs of his younger self. While he did
spend a few moments looking at the newly transformed female guest, he almost immediately turned

By periodical reports received from shop assistants over the Internet, with opinions, interests and
consumer preferences, and sent to the departments within the company, Zara adapts its outputs to the
real demand. Therefore, different sources of explicit knowledge are received for combining them and
creating new explicit knowledge. (María Teresa GARCÍA ÁLVAREZ, p.1000)

Zara has developed E Commerce which permits the sales of its outputs over the Internet and
moreover, it has a private Extranet where regulations can be found and to which suppliers have access
for finding the packing and labeling rules. (María Teresa GARCÍA ÁLVAREZ, p.1000)
In addition it has a foundation with other companies to have a permanent connection between
University and business for promoting the exchange of technology and information. Thus it allows
Zara employees to internalize the knowledge got in the documents or software used and convert it into

Explain Why Some Working At Home Are More Productive Than...
91 Percent of People Who Work at Home Are More Productive Than at Work When the idea of
working remotely comes up in a conversation, I find that people tend to respond in one of two ways:
total dread or utter delight. Some professionals recall the risks and difficulties of working away from
the office, while others rave about having the flexibility to create their own schedule and work
environment. Regardless of how you work best and where you personally stand on the topic, it s worth
considering the benefits of offering remote working opportunities to your team and organization. With
clear expectations and guidelines in place, remote working can bolster productivity and build trust
within your team. In fact, in a 2016 survey of American remote workers, 91 percent of people who
work remotely revealed that they re more productive than when they re in an office. In some ways,
remote working is similar to having teams in different locations or spread across various parts of the
country. However, establishing telecommuting protocol isn t always intuitive and the practice has yet
to be considered or implemented at many organizations or in some cases has been implemented and
retracted at some others. Here are a few tips to keep in mind if you are considering this as an option

The Tolkien The Hobbit
The Hobbit
The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien is novel about a hobbit who comes to the realization that there was more
to him than what meets the eye. In the Middle Earth, around the third age, Bilbo Baggins embarks on
the adventure of a lifetime. Throughout the obstacles and hardships of the adventure, Bilbo Baggins
transforms from a man of doubts and comfort to a hero with a newfound confidence and leadership.
The Hobbit, a book of fantasy and adventure, is likely to appeal to readers of any age. The author who
tells an entertaining story, offers all readers a chance to journey on an adventure with a magical
wizard, a hobbit and dwarves. In the beginning of the novel the author s tone transitions from
humorous to ominous and suspenseful. Humorously, the author talks about Bilbo s attitude towards
Gandalf s offer of an adventure stating, We don t want any adventures here, thank you! You might
want to try over the Hill or across the water. By this he meant the conversation was at end (6). As the
book progresses, the author s tone darkens, and the suspense of the novel rises. One example of
suspense in the novel is Bilbo s encounter with Gollum. Does it guess easy? It must have a
competition with us, my preciouss! If precious asks, and it doesn t answer, we eats it, my preciousss.
If it asks us and we don t answer, then we does what it wants, eh? We shows it the way out, yes! (70).

History in the 80s
Describe entertainment and music from the 80s: The 80s had a very distinct personality to its pop
culture phenomena. It was in the 80s that we saw the first mass explosion of hysteria for new toys,
with the 1983 winter shortage of Cabbage Patch Dolls. One of the biggest pop culture crazes of its
times, the individually named and crafted Cabbage Patch Dolls join the ranks of the dolls of each

Many of the musicians during the 1980s have maintained staying power and are still popular today.
Other artists enjoyed a modicum of success during the decade and they are not even widely
recognized today, save for the television programs that strive to reunite the bands and give exposure to
artists of the time. Following is some descriptions and explanations of the bands and interests that
helped to change the face of music in the 80s. MTV, or Music Television, may have been the single
most influential entity in music industry during the 1980s . Premiering in 1981, MTV gave bands and
artists greater exposure for their music in a greater and more widely popular medium. The first video
ever played on MTV was aptly titled Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles. Duran Duran is one
of the more popular 80s bands that enjoyed the exposure that MTV gave them, too. Many experts have
said that MTV is what made Duran Duran one of the most popular bands to come out of the 1980s era.
New Wave and Synthpop was another genre of music that came about during this era. This form held
on to many of the attributes of the popular Punk Rock genre coming out of the 1970s, but it had
different characteristics. While the Punk Rock of the 1970s was a retaliation against the government
and the establishment, the New Wave and Synthpop forms were meant to be anti corporation in a more

Free Choice Vs Free Will
In today s modern western world within the United States of America (US) there are opportunities
with multitudes of decisions from the freedom of will and the freedom of choice in which most part of
the society will experience within their life time. Although there are multitudes of choices available to
choose from, individuals still have a say to choose or not to choose to buy products or services (e.g.,
buy, not buy). Choice is more than simply choosing from A, B, C or D, it is a mandatory process that
holds one accountable for their decisions (Paul Hiebert, 2014).
Schwartz (University of Maryland, University College (UMUC), 2006), in his presentations argues
and suggest that with the abundant increase in today s choices and the pursuit to ... Show more content

I assert that every choice that is available is not necessary needed for everyone. There are sets of
precepts and sets of standards that automatically narrow down ones choices (Rossiter et. al (2105).
Furthermore, no matter how many choices presented to choose from, an individual s capacity has
limited the intake, sorted, and narrowed down choices to make a rash decision. Keeping up the Jones
has been an old saying, yet quite popular today (e.g., movie title), however, has not changed
individuals wanting more than they have since grandparents made this statement in the past.
Therefore, what is the logical standpoint of wanting something that one cannot afford in the first
place? Decisions on products and services are rarely made from just choosing alone, it requires one to
already have a set of standards in place that are heavily imbedded by internal and external influences
(i.e., through family, friends, history, knowledge, and experiences) to begin with, and then ones free
will to decide from remaining options. Furthermore, pricing, style, color, availability, urgency, need,
and wants, etc. further plays a role in narrowing down choices automatically. Take for example; ones
need to replace a heater in the dead of winter where there are 25 choices of heaters. Available choices
would be dictated (i.e., limited, narrowed) by many factors (i.e., history, knowledge,

Iola Leroy Little Women
On their surfaces, Little Women and Iola Leroy share as many similarities as they do differences. Both
are set during and after the American Civil War, and both detail the lives of women, though the
circumstances of the heroines could scarcely be more different. Little Women s Jo March belongs to a
poor but comfortable white, northern family sympathetic to the Union cause. Iola Leroy, on the other
hand, endures a tumultuous life that takes her from a plantation owner s daughter, to a slave, to an
activist for racial justice. However, despite the obvious dissimilarities, the texts share several
important qualities. Each text espouses a clear moral directive: Little Women preaches the value of

Jo also refuses to marry Laurie because she does not truly love him. Of course, it would be difficult to
argue that Jo s marriage to Laurie would be as disharmonious with the text s moral stance as Amy s
intended betrothal to Fred Vaughn indeed, it is probable that many readers would have preferred it
over Jo s marriage to Mr. Bhaer. Jo s affection for Laurie is not predicated on his wealth, and it must
be said that the Laurences use their wealth nobly. However, while we can say that Laurie does not
contradict the novel s moral ideal, Jo s marriage to him would do little to advance it, particularly if the
reader is to accept Mrs. March s assessment that Jo and Laurie would fare poorly as a couple. Mr.
Bhaer, by contrast, aids in Jo s moral development. He dissuades her from writing sensation stories,
likening their publication to the sale of alcohol with the argument that there is a demand for whisky,
but I think you and I do not care to sell it. (Alcott 280) When Jo protests that authors of sensation
stories are trying to make an honest wage, Mr. Bhaer contends that if the authors, knew what harm
they did, they would not feel that the living was honest, (Alcott 280) reiterating the novel s underlying
moral directive that wealth should never be a cause to sacrifice morality, dignity, or happiness. Jo and
Mr. Bhaer s marriage signifies Jo s ultimate acceptance of the lesson her mother set out to teach her,
and both their sons and the students at their school guarantee that the morally improved society
resulting from their betrothal will continue into the next

Gender and Discrimination in Sports: Soccer
How many fans do you see supporting women s Soccer teams? Why are women receiving less
acknowledgements for their success towards sports than men? Do you know any girl who is interested
in playing soccer and is not on the team just because she is a girl? Well I do. Such an incidence
happened in one of my best friend s lives. It took place at my high school back in my country,
Ethiopia. My best friend is really interested in soccer. She will give up anything for it. When we were
in high school, she used to play soccer with the boys in her spare time. The boys used to let her play
only on their trainings because she was not part of the team. So one day, they lost a match with
another high school because one of their best defense players got injured. That day, my best friend
decided to ask the coach if she could be on the team. Disbelief was apparent on his face. He laughed at
her really hard and then told the other team members about her question. Everybody started to make
fun of her. Even though they knew she was the best defense player, they prohibited her to be on their
team just because she was a girl. Due to gender and discrimination, women are experiencing

Twelfth Night is referring to the twelfth night after Christmas, Epiphany. Today, the Twelfth Night
after Christmas means the day we take down the decorations, but back in 1600 when the play was
written it had a different meaning. Epiphany was a time for celebrating and partying. People used to
have parties on Twelfth Night and it was traditional to play practical jokes at this time. These included
tricks such as hiding live birds in an empty pie case, so that they flew away when the startled guests
cut open the crusts. It was a mad time full of pranks and confusion, just as in the play. This name,
Twelfth Night , therefore seems appropriate for this play due to all the confusion and the banter that
goes on in the confusing storyline.
In Twelfth Night we see different types of humour. There is the word play, the vulgar humour of Sir
Toby, stupidity of Sir Andrew, Malvolio s foolishness , and the general confusion caused by Viola s

Shakespeare used dirty and witty humour in most of his plays but it is perhaps most obvious in
Twelfth Night. He used different types of humour to please all of the people who flocked to see his

peasants that he could entertain with the dirty jokes and humour. An example of this is this is my lady

Human And Human Differences In Humans
In Humans as well as other species we can see some obvious differences between males and females.
Differences such as the development of a penis or vagina, muscle mass, body size, the distribution of
fat and the amount of distribution of body hair are all the differences that can be observed in Humans.
These differences are a result of a long chain of events that begin during the early phases of
embryology. It Involves Complex interaction between the environment and gene expression.
Chromosomes
Being male or female is determined in stages beginning at fertilization when the sex chromosomes
carried by the sperms meet the egg. Females have XX chromosomes and Males have XY
chromosomes. Having XX females and XY males provides a genetic framework for developmental
events that eventually give us Male or female appearance. The formation of reproductive structures we
see in Males and females depend on several factors, this includes gene action and interaction within
the embryo. Interactions with other embryos that may be in the uterus. As mentioned this process is
not straightforward, having XX and XY does not always mean that individual is either male or female.
The outcome depends on the distribution of genes on the X and Y chromosome. All eggs that are
produced by females carry the X chromosomes, in males about half of the mature sperms curry the X
chromosomes. An egg that is fertilized by a sperm that has the X chromosomes will have XX Zygote
and will develop into a female

than interrupt the class, I decided to go to the nearest McDonald s to sit and read until the next class
cycle. This was when I first noticed my surroundings. Though it was cold, there seemed to be a lot of
guys hanging around on the sidewalks. There were two fast food restaurants that I would not consider
healthy food choices. Once inside of McDonalds, I came to realize that I had sat down in the middle of
a drug transition. Essentially, there were men selling and doing drugs in the bathroom of the
McDonald s. I felt uncomfortable and decided it would be best to sit in the office of the school. Once I

  • 2. Our Project Is Aimed At Researching How The City Of Phoenix Our project is aimed at researching how the city of Phoenix might utilize green infrastructure in order to manage stormwater flows within the city. The project has been framed in a way that focuses on affordable maintenance costs to the city, green infrastructure s benefit to stakeholders, and the suitability of the infrastructure for the city s desert climate. The primary focus of the research is to curate green infrastructure technologies that the City of Phoenix has the ability to implement with its current resources. Different aspects of this research include identifying the environmental impacts of the technologies being discussed, identifying different green infrastructure technologies being implemented in cities in the Southwest, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The program focused specifically on neighborhoods and households. The case study from Portland, Oregon was on the city level where reducing and disconnecting paved surfaces took place from 1993 2001 and the city paid homeowners $53 for each downspout they disconnected themselves, or they offered to provide the service to households for free through volunteer groups. Downspouts need to be replaced approximately ten years installation and maintenance is minimal besides ensuring the drainage area is functioning properly and not eroding as well as making sure the spouts are clear of debris, holes, etc. The total cost of the program was $13 million, and 56,000 downspouts were disconnected, which remove a total of 1.3 billion gallons of stormwater from their combined sewer system each year. Permeable pavements . The case studies for permeable pavements were from a website/organization called Low Impact Development and Portland, Oregon. For pricing, per square foot, it would be $0.50 to $1.00 for asphalt, $2.00 to $6.50 for porous concrete, $1.50 to $5.75 for grass or gravel pavers, and $5.00 to $10.00 for interlocking concrete paving blocks (Peterson, 2001). Permeable pavement will not only take in water but sediment as well so over time the infiltration rate will decrease so debris will need to be cleared by sweeping or vacuuming. • 3. Remedies In Civil Action A Civil Action starts out quietly and slowly with some cold hard truths about legal remedies. The remedies are the goal of civil actions that go through the legal system. Having the remedies explained as to the dollar value of a life depending on age and race and gender was troublesome. While Jan s explanation made sense, and didn t agree with it and was not a big fan of his at this point. It was interesting to see how provoking an emotional response from the jury got the higher settlement offer. It really set the stage for what a gamble the main case in the movie was going to be. The movie tip toes into next scene with little bits of information on personal injury and the lifestyle and background of Jan. Then the case comes to light ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is here that Jan points out that the idea of lawsuits is to compel the other side to settle and having a case go to trial is a corruption of that process and makes everything about what you can prove. One of the defendants, Beatrice, offers a settlement to cover the expenses of the case to date, which Jan refuses. Then the other defendant, Grace, who is represented by Cheeseman, wants to talk. They offer the 8 million dollars that it would take to give everyone a slice of pizza and cover expenses, but Jan refuses that and asks for what would ultimately be 320 million. Since a settlement cannot be reached this case is going to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Modern Dance Is Never Static Essay Dance is never static. Even if it has specific sub genres with set guidelines and expected characteristics like other forms of visual and performing arts, dancers have the will to choose not follow them as often and as strictly if they please. They re allowed the freedom of expression as well as the freedom to even create new forms of dance. In fact, this freedom to create is why modern dance came to be. It decided to stem off of classical ballet then completely break off from its roots and become its own sub genre over the course of decades. Modern has many similarities to ballet, such as how turns are conducted or how arm strength is utilized, but they are considered to be enemies by dancers. I would like to explain more about how these two opponents (modern and ballet) are rather more like sisters, as well as how modern dance has evolved in the past century and how this change threatens traditional modern form. I will go into the origins of modern dance and what cultural phenomenons it is derived from. Furthermore, I would like to debunk its stereotypes and clarify just what modern dance is. Modern dance s enemy ballet establishes visual and physical restrictions on day one of class. Dancers have specific positions of the feet, arms, and hands to follow and hold. They must have pointed feet when turning or on relevĂŠ (pushing your weight onto the balls of your feet to lift yourself), have his or her thumb placed against your palm for the sake of pretty lines (aesthetic is ... • 5. Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz This part basically focuses on how Mintz tries to tie together the disparate geographies from Northern Europe up to the Caribbean. It will be documented that Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz actually discusses and illuminates the economic and social history revolving around sugar consumption and production in Europe as well as its colonies, predominantly focusing on England. Mintz examines the structure of power, which made it probable for sugar to actually turn out to be the first luxury turned necessity that propelled a revolution within lifestyle and diet, principally within the working class in the upsurge of capitalism and Industrial Revolution. Mintz further argues that the contribution of sugar to several developed countries has been substantial, and that, as a result of the history of sugar in England plus the restructuring within the working class, individuals in United States and the United Kingdom have actually lost their autonomy towards food . From the novel we will realize that Mintz essentially attempts to bring together the disparate geographies basically from Northern Europe up to Caribbean. Political ideology is a more or less consistent set of views as to the policies the government ought to pursue. People around the world, at some point, obtain a political ideology in their lifetime. American politics functions largely in the middle of the political spectrum as a contest between liberals and conservatives. Liberals believe the government has an important place both as a regulator in the public interest and to assist those with lower incomes. On the other hand, they still oppose government intervention in matters of personal autonomy. Conservatives feel there is too much government interference, particularly at the federal level, in the economy. This belief translates into calls for lower taxes, reduced spending on social programs, and deregulation. Perhaps because most Americans see themselves as moderates, politicians find it difficult to stay within the ideological boundaries of liberalism or conservatism. Many stress their credentials as fiscal conservatives while taking liberal positions on social issues. Others take a populist line, embracing active governmental intervention in both economic and cultural spheres. The code of welfare for dairy cows would be especially important as the dairy industry is becoming increasingly important in New Zealand, the high demand in dairy product would mean more farmers would have to provide adequate care and welfare for the ever increasing dairy cows produced. This code gives the owner or the person in charge of the animals a list of 6 minimum standards to follow whilst managing dairy cows, the minimum standards listed includes the stockmanship, the physical environment, health, and husbandry practices. The owner or person in charge of the cattle must follow the minimum requirements, the failure to comply to the minimum standards may be used as evidence to prosecute under the Animal Welfare Act (1999). Positive Attributes The code of welfare for dairy cows at part 4.4 states that cow and calves must be able to lie down and rest for a sufficient amount of time per day to meet their behavioural needs (Placeholder1). Shelley depicts the social status of women in contemporary London by presenting the female characters as ineffective to the public sphere. By upholding women s views of the familial, Shelley illustrates the patriarchal social system, which favor men over women. Barbara Lazear Ascher, born in 1946, writes, On Compassion. The total casualties reached about about 38 million, with over 17 million deaths, 7 million of them being civilians, and 20 million wounded. World War I was well known for the extensive system of trenches from which men of both sides fought, the lethal new technologies unleashed such as poison gas, and for the battles under the sea and in the skies. At first, the two sides consisted of the Allies: France, Britain, and Russia, against the Central Powers: Germany, Austria Hungary, and Turkey. As the war carried on however, the tides turned towards the Central Powers. Needing help, the Allies turned towards America for assistance. The United States however, were very reluctant at first, sticking to their public policies. Trading with both sides of the belligerents, the United States did not want to halt their booming economy, and the large number of protests by immigrant citizens made joining the war even less desirable. It was only after Britain s decision to blockade Germany, Germany s announcement to resume unrestricted submarine warfare, and the British discovery of the Zimmerman Telegram that the United States finally decided to join the war. Due to a variety of cultures within society, the dialectic reality is still being disputed. Man has his own thought process, but people are told only to believe what society has shown us. Man created society, but society did not create man. However, man is often viewed as a product of society because this is our everyday reality. 2. According to Berger, the three steps that constitute the process of world building are externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Externalization is man interacting with society being an essential step so that he can develop. Humorously, the author talks about Bilbo s attitude towards Gandalf s offer of an adventure stating, We don t want any adventures here, thank you! You might want to try over the Hill or across the water. By this he meant the conversation was at end (6). As the book progresses, the author s tone darkens, and the suspense of the novel rises. One example of suspense in the novel is Bilbo s encounter with Gollum. Does it guess easy? It must have a competition with us, my preciouss! If precious asks, and it doesn t answer, we eats it, my preciousss. If it asks us and we don t answer, then we does what it wants, eh? We shows it the way out, yes! (70). One of the biggest pop culture crazes of its times, the individually named and crafted Cabbage Patch Dolls join the ranks of the dolls of each decade, reflecting the eternal power of the doll. Other artists enjoyed a modicum of success during the decade and they are not even widely recognized today, save for the television programs that strive to reunite the bands and give exposure to artists of the time. Following is some descriptions and explanations of the bands and interests that helped to change the face of music in the 80s. MTV, or Music Television, may have been the single most influential entity in music industry during the 1980s . Premiering in 1981, MTV gave bands and artists greater exposure for their music in a greater and more widely popular medium. The first video ever played on MTV was aptly titled Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles. Duran Duran is one of the more popular 80s bands that enjoyed the exposure that MTV gave them, too. Many experts have said that MTV is what made Duran Duran one of the most popular bands to come out of the 1980s era. New Wave and Synthpop was another genre of music that came about during this era. This form held on to many of the attributes of the popular Punk Rock genre coming out of the 1970s, but it had different characteristics. While the Punk Rock of the 1970s was a retaliation against the government and the establishment, the New Wave and Synthpop forms were meant to be anti corporation in a more experimental sense, both ... • 28. Free Choice Vs Free Will In today s modern western world within the United States of America (US) there are opportunities with multitudes of decisions from the freedom of will and the freedom of choice in which most part of the society will experience within their life time. Although there are multitudes of choices available to choose from, individuals still have a say to choose or not to choose to buy products or services (e.g., buy, not buy). Choice is more than simply choosing from A, B, C or D, it is a mandatory process that holds one accountable for their decisions (Paul Hiebert, 2014). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I assert that every choice that is available is not necessary needed for everyone. There are sets of precepts and sets of standards that automatically narrow down ones choices (Rossiter et. al (2105). Furthermore, no matter how many choices presented to choose from, an individual s capacity has limited the intake, sorted, and narrowed down choices to make a rash decision. Keeping up the Jones has been an old saying, yet quite popular today (e.g., movie title), however, has not changed individuals wanting more than they have since grandparents made this statement in the past. Therefore, what is the logical standpoint of wanting something that one cannot afford in the first place? Decisions on products and services are rarely made from just choosing alone, it requires one to already have a set of standards in place that are heavily imbedded by internal and external influences (i.e., through family, friends, history, knowledge, and experiences) to begin with, and then ones free will to decide from remaining options. Furthermore, pricing, style, color, availability, urgency, need, and wants, etc. further plays a role in narrowing down choices automatically. Take for example; ones need to replace a heater in the dead of winter where there are 25 choices of heaters. Available choices would be dictated (i.e., limited, narrowed) by many factors (i.e., history, knowledge, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both are set during and after the American Civil War, and both detail the lives of women, though the circumstances of the heroines could scarcely be more different. Iola Leroy, on the other hand, endures a tumultuous life that takes her from a plantation owner s daughter, to a slave, to an activist for racial justice. Jo also refuses to marry Laurie because she does not truly love him. Of course, it would be difficult to argue that Jo s marriage to Laurie would be as disharmonious with the text s moral stance as Amy s intended betrothal to Fred Vaughn indeed, it is probable that many readers would have preferred it over Jo s marriage to Mr. Bhaer. Jo s affection for Laurie is not predicated on his wealth, and it must be said that the Laurences use their wealth nobly. However, while we can say that Laurie does not contradict the novel s moral ideal, Jo s marriage to him would do little to advance it, particularly if the reader is to accept Mrs. March s assessment that Jo and Laurie would fare poorly as a couple. Mr. Bhaer, by contrast, aids in Jo s moral development. He dissuades her from writing sensation stories, likening their publication to the sale of alcohol with the argument that there is a demand for whisky, but I think you and I do not care to sell it. (Alcott 280) When Jo protests that authors of sensation stories are trying to make an honest wage, Mr. Bhaer contends that if the authors, knew what harm they did, they would not feel that the living was honest, (Alcott 280) reiterating the novel s underlying moral directive that wealth should never be a cause to sacrifice morality, dignity, or happiness. Jo and Mr. Bhaer s marriage signifies Jo s ultimate acceptance of the lesson her mother set out to teach her, and both their sons and the students at their school guarantee that the morally improved society resulting from their betrothal will continue into the next ... Why are women receiving less acknowledgements for their success towards sports than men? Do you know any girl who is interested in playing soccer and is not on the team just because she is a girl? Well I do. Such an incidence happened in one of my best friend s lives. It took place at my high school back in my country, Ethiopia. My best friend is really interested in soccer. She will give up anything for it. When we were in high school, she used to play soccer with the boys in her spare time. Disbelief was apparent on his face. He laughed at her really hard and then told the other team members about her question. Everybody started to make fun of her. Differences such as the development of a penis or vagina, muscle mass, body size, the distribution of fat and the amount of distribution of body hair are all the differences that can be observed in Humans. These differences are a result of a long chain of events that begin during the early phases of embryology. It Involves Complex interaction between the environment and gene expression. Chromosomes Being male or female is determined in stages beginning at fertilization when the sex chromosomes carried by the sperms meet the egg. Females have XX chromosomes and Males have XY chromosomes. Having XX females and XY males provides a genetic framework for developmental events that eventually give us Male or female appearance. The formation of reproductive structures we see in Males and females depend on several factors, this includes gene action and interaction within the embryo. Interactions with other embryos that may be in the uterus. As mentioned this process is not straightforward, having XX and XY does not always mean that individual is either male or female. The outcome depends on the distribution of genes on the X and Y chromosome.
