Ancient India Vs. Ancient China Essay
Ancient India vs. Ancient China Early Indian and Chinese civilizations were very advanced for their
times. For example some areas of the Indus Valley had sewer systems while the Chinese mastered the
art of spinning Silk. The first modern humans in China date back 50,000 years. Their populations
today outnumber any country to date, which can be linked to their rich heritage dating back thousands
of years. The early people of the Indus Valley were seen as the first civilization of India beginning
around 3200 B.C.E. and lasted until the Indo Aryans came at around 1600 B.C.E... Judging by the
varying qualities of the homes discovered, they had a class system of some sort. They also had an
economy consisting of agriculture and domestic animals. And, as mentioned before, they even had
sewer systems in the more populated areas. Once the Indo Aryans came, the culture of the Indus
Valley people became intertwined in the new ideas of these new people.
The Indo Aryans brought with them an economy dependent on cattle. Other animals like sheep, goats,
and horses were also valued. Grains such as barley were grown as well. They also had musical
instruments, including flutes, drums and cymbals. Their government consisted of a Raja, or king, of
certain areas. The Raja mainly protected the people, taking on the responsibility of defending his land.
The gods were called Devas, similar to the Greek gods, and were used as personifications of natural
forces. One deity was called Indra, who

The Classical Theory Of Criminal Activity
It is only appropriate to believe that the severity of penalties given to an individual whom committed a
crime should be proportionate to the crime in which they engaged in, no more than what is necessary,
but enough in order to deter the offender from participating in another crime. This approach is applied
in such ways because it is believed that criminal activity is a rational choice, chosen because they
perceive it to be in their best interest. Criminals make a rational choice and choose to do criminal acts
due to maximum pleasure and minimum pain (Classical School of Criminology, 2012) Cesare
Beccaria contributed to the classical theory greatly, and introduced several attributions to the justice
system which advanced it immensely. Views were consistent with Beccaria s utilitarian beliefs that
sought to maximize the public benefit by achieving the greatest amount of good for the most people .
(Newman, Freilich 133 1997; Newman Margongiu, 1997) The Classical Theory has resulted in
positive advancements in the justice system for various reasons. Firstly, it is forward looking
utilitarian models designed to promote the public good (Freilich, J., 2014, 138), also, it embraces
scientific principles to achieve their goals and seek to temper harsh punishments of their times
(Freilich, J., 2014, 138). These are beneficial for the justice system because communities
independently choose the crime reduction strategy which they are comfortable with, and believe will

Disadvantages Of A Big Family
There are many different components that make up a family especially a big family. A common
misconception is that all people in a family are similar, but the truth is that in order to have a family
you have different people that love each other despite those differences. Most of the time the largest
part of a family is the children, and the way that the kids interact is interesting. There are five different
categories that siblings really fall into that make up a family.
The superior one is the first type of sibling. This duty usually falls to the oldest in the family which
only makes sense because they often think that just because they came first that they know best. They
always make sure that you know what they think about your actions, and they are kind enough to give
constructive criticism even when not asked. How considerate! However, being the all knowing sibling
is not the only responsibility of this type. They also are either a mommy or daddy s kid. This duty is
taken extremely seriously, and they feel that it is absolutely a necessity to defend their parent
whenever their so called honor is in danger from another sibling. How they protect their parent is
actually quite simple where they will use a superbly developed matter of fact tone to degrade their
fellow kin back to kindergarten and ask questions such as, Why are you so upset? or You know you
don t have to yell. The key to this technique is to make sure that this is all done in front of their parent

Call Of Duty Historical Facts
Video games are one of the many ways that history is present in my daily life. Many videogames try
to replicate history and Call of Duty is one of them. I am going to be focusing on Call of Duty: World
at War. This version of the game is about the Second World War, and you get to play as soldiers on
both sides on the war. The game is very brutal and violent, and because you will be playing as an
American soldier and as a Germen soldier, the game can better explain what happened during WW2.
My initial thoughts about the historical facts that take place during the game was that they were
inaccurate. Because the game was developed and published by American companies, I automatically
thought that it would favor the Allies and specially The United

The Value Of The Currency Alone Will Not Improve The Trade...
There are too many factors that may limit the growth needed to reach the balance to get out of debt.
Devaluing the currency alone will not improve the trade balance. Instead, there becomes a need to
limit the consumption. In the case of food imports, which accounts for about 12 percent of import
expenditure in Sri Lanka, the government expects the price increases to result in import substitution,
which will likely take time. The most forceful argument for devaluation is that it ensures the
competitiveness of exports. The question here is whether the extent of depreciation would be adequate
to ensure that the real effective exchange rate would ensure competitiveness.
Again, there are some governments that do try to attempt to influence the value of their currency by
ways of intervention. The most notable offender in recent years is that of China, who has sought to
keep its currency undervalued to make Chinese exports more competitive against other heavily traded
Asian markets. They can do this by buying US dollar assets, which increases the value of the US
dollar to Chinese Yuan ratio. (Factors Which Influence the Exchange Rate) Because the current
financial status is so heavily dependent on exporting, the continuous management of the exchange rate
to ensure export competitiveness is essential for China and Sri Lanka. A reduction in exports could
affect the economy seriously as a decline in exports could affect economic growth, employment and
incomes. (Sanderatne)

Elements Of The Law Of Negligence
In our judgement the law is clear. The ingredients of the offence have been clearly defined, and the
principles decided in the House of Lords in Adomako . They involve no uncertainty. The hypothetical
citizen, seeking to know his his position, would be advised that, assuming he owed a duty of care to
the deceased which he had negligently broken, and that death resulted, he would be liable to
conviction for manslaughter if, on the available evidence, the jury was satisfied that his negligence
was gross. Per Judge LJ R. v. Misra and Srivastava [2004] EWCA Crim 2375 para 64 (in the Court of
Appeal Criminal Division) In light of the above comments, consider the elements of the offence of
Gross Negligence Manslaughter and, referring to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lord Mackay LC, when considering the case of Adomako, said that the ordinary principles of law of
negligence apply to ascertain whether or not D has been in breach of a duty of care towards the victim
. By looking at the above statement, it is clear that those same principles should apply in determining
these people to whom a duty of care is owed. These principles can be found in the leading negligence
case of Donoghue v Stevenson (1932). In this case, Lord Atkin in the House of Lords said you must
take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which you can reasonably foresee would be likely to
injure your neighbour (...) persons who are closely and directly affected by my act that I ought
reasonably to have them in contemplation as being so affected when I am directing my mind to the
acts or omissions which are called into question . It can be argued that this goes much further than the
traditional duty situations. If this examination is correct, then this form of manslaughter has certainly a
very wide scope. Nevertheless, the principles of criminal and civil law do not always go well together.
This is demonstrated by the case of Wacker (2003), which involved the bodies of 58 illegal
immigrants and two survivors which were found in a lorry at Dover. The D was convicted of 58
counts of manslaughter by gross negligence

This sophisticated, mouthwatering use of language can be seen in the following quotes: Familiarity
bleeds into strangeness and acts perpetrated by the night . The beautiful imagery that this novel
employs allows the reader to clearly understand the author s message.
The writing style of Han Kang has influenced me greatly. I have seen that by writing in a negative and
anti climactic way but still employing interesting descriptive writing that you can keep the reader
captivated. Kang has an absolute flair in her writing ability. The imagery that she employs is
remarkable. This can be achieved by having a vast and diverse vocabulary from which to choose your
words carefully to best describe what you want to portray. I have decided to make an effort to broaden
my vocabulary and look up synonyms for ordinary words that I would usually use.
Han Kang you have been an absolute inspiration. You have opened my eyes as to what art can be

There is an idiom in China that says People make food their Heaven , which means everyone needs
food to survive but also means people take comfort and pride in their food in many ways. However,
nowadays, the position of food changes, and it seems not as important as before. Food production has
become industrialized and plants have been grown with more problems. Most people didn t realize
this and they continued this process. Then, problems appeared like flooding. However, there are still
some people feel the significance of the problems. Mark Bittman, bestselling cookbook author,
journalist and television personality, gave a speech What s wrong with what we eat to reveal why we

Pollan and Hastings et al gave their idea on sugar and diabetes while Bittman did concern a little. Just
take a glance at some statics now. 25.8 million children and adults in the United States 8.3% of the
population have diabetes. 1.9 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed in people aged 20 years and
older in 2010. (Cited from http://www.diabetes.org/diabetes basics/diabetes statistics/) Seriously,
syrup is the culprit and we can see it everywhere from drinks, snacks, food, and oil. Hastings et al call
syrup empty calories because syrup can t give people any benefit; otherwise people still need to do a
lot exercise to burn those calories. In the Deadly Noodles , Hastings et al said in both developed and
developing countries, people are doing less and less activities, so diabetes always trouble people there.
Compared with Hastings et al, Michael Pollan is a real detective at this issue, who see the truth for
why there is growing more diabetes. He said generally, it s us, not something else, are doing
contributing to the diseases. Government over subsidizes on crops especially on crop syrup, then
syrup becomes cheaper and is used more comprehensively in producing what people eat every day,
and finally, as people consume more, they get bigger possibility to get diabetes. That s the problem,
and Pollan said that one in three Americans born in the year

Poe Vs Usher
I see numerous variances and parallels concerning Edgar Allen Poe s The Fall of the House of Usher
and The Purloined Letter, as well as the overall appeal of the story it has to me. Poe uses the main
character as the speakers but he is nameless. This entire account is told in the first person view since
the speaker does partake in the action of the story. I realized that what the storyteller is observing and
witnessing the events. I examined the credibility of the circumstances. Poe undoubtedly doesn t give
the character a name because not all good tales need them to progress the plot and express the
important fragments of the story. Labels are made so the characters can see more fitting for the
faultfinder, and not much pondering for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another idiosyncrasy to ponder here is Roderick s association with the speaker. He doesn t distinguish
this guy that well like I picture myself with my close friends. The narrator said, As boys, we had been
even intimate associates, yet I really knew little of my friend. His reserve had been always excessive
and habitual. They seem more like associates than childhood friends since they haven t seen or spoken
to one other in years! Usher observably recounts are strong about his identical sister as enthusiastically
and somatic state. The speaker said, That for several days ensuring her name was unmentioned by
either Usher or myself, and during this period I was busied in earnest endeavors to alleviate the
melancholy of my friend. While Usher himself positions that understandings of a just clear nature had
continuously ensued between them When she dies, his behavior transformed to one of edginess
character I have ever read about. Madeline seems to be one entity to Usher but also his was
interconnected to the manor as well. The crack splits the family. Roderick and Madeline die,
terminating the clan. The speaker says there is a wild inconsistency between still perfect adaptations
and the collapsing state of the different stones. This is symbolic to me. The stones symbolize the
different member of the Usher family, and the whole mansion represents the family. The
temperaments created in each story are totally unalike. The Fall of the House of Usher comes off as an
unusually low spirited impression with every detail adding to the disheartening vision. The story,
impressions of fear raises, partly because Poe is infamous for it his melancholic dismay tales, however
frequently for the actual prediction. The introductory portrayals the day as During the whole of a dull,
dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year. I feel a sense of anxiety when the

For many years, women have been determined to gain equality and be seen and treated equally as men
are. They have had many opportunities that were taken away from them because of the simple fact that
they were women. Women didn t have the opportunities and the rights that could ve given to them. By
noticing this problem, people have been standing up for what people knew what was right. It s a basic
human right to be equal to other people without hesitation. With artists around, do people think

The Use Of Deere s Rqd For Estimating On Situ Deformation...
In the 1960 s several attempts were made to use Deere s RQD for estimating in situ deformation
modulus, but this approach is seldom used today (Deere 1988). Some theoretical expressions have
been derived for simple joint geometries derived a mathematical procedure to calculate the
deformation modulus of an equivalent continuum for a randomly jointed rock mass. However, these
simple expressions are inadequate as they assume the discontinuities are dispersed in a regular manner
that is not realistic for practical purposes.
The deformation of the rock mass can be quantified by using the following equations evaluated by
Deere and Miller (1966) as indicated in the table below. For RMR 50 (Bieniawski, 1978),

The extensive quantity of tests allowed a thorough analysis of the accuracy and reliability of the
simple means field tests for estimating the intact rock strength. Figure 6 . Estimated intact rock
strength vs. strength values determined by UCS tests. (The dashed lines in A and C indicate the
relation if estimated strength equal UCS strength.) after Robert and Marco.
In Fig. 6(c) the averages of estimated and UCS values are shown per unit. In Fig. 4.1 no
differentiation is made for the direction of the measurements. Fig. 6(a) shows that the scatter is wide
and consequently only low or no correlation can be seen. In Fig. 6(b) is clearly visible that the
differences between UCS and estimated values do not show a normal distribution for lower strength
values. The distribution is skewed to higher values, e.g. the UCS values are higher than the estimated
values. For high strength values the distribution of the differences is more normal but the average
values of the UCS tests per estimated strength class are lower than the averages of the estimated
values. A quite good correlation is found for the averages per unit (Fig. 6(c)).
The standard deviation of the UCS values per unit is for most units considerably higher than the
standard deviation for the estimated strength value per unit (Fig. 5(d)). It is assumed that a unit has a
characteristic strength distribution with a characteristic mean strength value, which is very likely for

Canada is one of the leading countries when it comes to minerals due to the mining industries. Mines
that provide us minerals in Canada include the Diamond Production in the far North, Voiseys Bay in
Labradors, the Sudbury region, Arctic and Taiga region, and the boreal shield region. Miners play an
effective role when it comes to minerals since they are really the ones providing us with these
minerals. As well as the workers in industries who make oil and different things out of them. There
have been many recent developments in Canada in the mineral industry, such as; Diamond production
in the far north that is Canada s latest mining success stories.

Comparing The Struggles Of Nora In A Doll s House
Enough is Enough: The Struggles of Nora in A Doll s House In the Victorian age men were the head
decisions makers for their wives and children s lives. In A Doll s House it shows a bundle of
disagreements with Nora and her husband Torvald. Their relationship has pushed Nora to her breaking
point. I argue that in A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen and I m Moving On by Rascal Flatts, Nora
realizes that Torvald has been dismissing her and treating her badly because Torvald has been calling
her very degrading names, Torvald has been very self centered, and Torvald forbids her to even leave
him, when that is what was best for her.
Nora and Torvald have been married for eight years. He has never excelled at being an exceptional
husband to her, and talks extremely negative to her. Torvald also screeched at his wife, Nora, for
making inadequate decisions that have destroyed his reputation. Torvald says, You talk like a child,
think like a child! You don t understand the ... the whole society in which you live (Ibsen 105).

When she brought up leaving he was very confused at why she would desire to leave him. Torvald

insane for wanting to leave everything they had together. Nora did not want to throw away everything
she had, but she knew she had to get out before she killed herself. No matter what happens, she knew
she would benefit herself without him. The Rascal Flatts say, I ve loved like I should but lived like I

Chaos in Ukraine
War, chaos, depression, and corruption are some of the words to describe the chaos in Ukraine. Since
the 3 billion Eurobond lent to Ukraine by Russia weren t paid off the money, revolution was sparked
within the citizens of Ukraine and slowly erupting into something many people fear will start another
catastrophic event in Europe. Even with the strong support of NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty
Organization; Ukraine has but only two options, to move to E.U. or to move to the support of Russia,
and the citizens are divided in half, the east and west, one side wanting to merge with Russia and the
other wanting to merge with E.U.. And with Russia already annexing Crimea, which is located below
Ukraine and Russia has tens of thousands troops lined up on the border and NATO not knowing what
they should do, Ukraine is up in flames. Also with the president of Ukraine Yanokovych leaving and
rejecting office unofficially to escape, leaving the balance of Ukraine in the hand of new president
Oleksandr Twrchynov in charge of the disaster of what is now leading to an official civil war. The
question is who is going to take action and when? NATO wanting to prevent a potential World War
really doesn t have any idea what they should do. And what does Russia even want from Ukraine?
E.U. is trying to do everything possible to not take action, but from news reporters perspectives, these
events could also relate to 1939 when Hitler took over all these nations and said the reason was that he

Isaiah Chapter 10
The pericope of that I choose for this reflection paper is Isaiah 11:1 9. The preceding literature unit of
this pericope focuses on the topic how God uses Assyria for His redemptive purpose. In Isaiah 10:5,
Isaiah explains the role of Assyria in God s plan. Assyria is the rod of God s anger. He uses it to
punish Israel and Judah because they are two godless nations but full of idols (Isaiah 10:6,11). After
God s angers are poured out on two countries, the heart of Assyria becomes boastful. God turns His
anger on His rod and punishes Assyria. In Isaiah 10:12 19, Assyria is depicted as a mighty forest and
the judgment of God is portrayed as an axe will swing and chop down this mighty forest. Assyria will

An Analysis Of Hoch s Photomontage s Spirit Of Our Time
Hoch s photomontage was one of many collages that criticized the cultural staleness, depravity, and
decaying values of the German state. Through her depiction of German politicians and technology in a
state of chaos and confusion, she was effectively able to convince the German people to reevaluate
their faith in the government and current cultural values. She used the fast advancing technology of
the time (especially mass media) in also advancing her own goals of sardonically criticizing the
failings of the German state as well as pushing for gender equality. The other Berlin Dadaist, Raoul
Hausmann, created the combine, Spirit of Our Time: Mechanical Head, to criticize the German public
s dependence on tools and industry to think and rationalize, stripping away what he perceived made us
human (Crockett, 173). The title, Spirit of Our Time, is a metaphor for the German people s inability
to enact the change and reform needed to rebuild a better Germany after the horrendous world war
(Doherty, 82). The wooden head represents current state of the German people whose extent of
thought and logic can only be experienced by the mechanical tools affixed to the outside of his head.
The tools attached to his head include a ruler and a tape ruler, a pocket watch, a jewelry box
containing a typewriter wheel, a telescopic beaker, and some brass knobs from a camera

Examples Of Flawless Execution
Flawless Execution
There are three elements to flawless execution. The flowing are: Leadership, execution engine, and
foundation. Although, this book is written by a pilot, these elements can be used in any business to
perform substantially. I know a lot of businesses fail to use these steps. I see the importance of these
steps now. That s why Pizza Artista still stands after a year in business and is kicking butt. Leadership
breaks down into three categories. Picture of the future, strategy, and intent. With the picture of the
future, a good leader will get everyone on the same page about it with specific details. Strategy will be
the plan of the organization. It comes with four key questions. What are we going to be in the future as
an organization? What are we going to deploy our resources into or against in order to get there? How
are we actually going to do this? When and how are we going to exit and get out with some style and
finesse? Answering these questions can make a huge difference. Lastly, your intensions. Everyone
needs to know your intentions are about your strategy. Make sure everyone understands what is going
on and why. Otherwise, miscommunication falls into place and things can go wrong. The Execution ...

Repositioning
Repositioning of patients prone to pressure sores refers to turning these patients in order to promote
aeration and prevent excessive pressure being exerted on one body part for a long time. Research has
demonstrated that turning of these patients every 4 hours with foam mattresses developed from visco
elastic polyurethane has superiority in outcome compared with lack of turning of these patients. The
same research indicated that turning these patients every 4 hours has better outcome in reducing risk
of grade 1 and grade 2 bed sores than turning them once daily on the same foam mattresses. This 4
hour turning schedule also has been shown to have little significant results compared a 2 hour turning
schedule on the foam mattresses made of visco elastic polyurethane (Vanderwee, Grypdonck, De,

turning of these patients from one side to the next. The basis for this is to facilitate air circulation and

A First Appearance In the short story, A Christmas Memory, written by Truman Capote, imagery and
similes are often used by the author to convey the theme of human nature to judge people based on
first appearances. For instance, Buddy s friend is sixty something and with the author s first
description of her, a majority of people would immediately conceive her character as someone who is
stodgy. Moreover, in the beginning of the story, the author describes Buddy s friend as, small and
sprightly, like a bantam hen; but due to a long youthful illness, her shoulders are pitifully hunched (1).
At first glance of reading this quote, the use of imagery would cause people to believe that Buddy s

Fat Women Research Paper
You might think the title of this article alludes to the fact that a larger woman might require a
physically strong man in order to handle her ample charms, but you would be quite wrong.
In our popular culture, the media worships the beautiful, perfectly made up, perfectly coiffed,
perfectly dressed, THIN woman! Our current standard of beauty is based on super models, actresses,
musical artists, reality TV stars, all for the most part very thin women. With the overwhelming amount
of these images bombarding us every day, the message seems clear: women who do not fit this
standard of beauty are unattractive, unloveable, and unacceptable.
All BBWs have at one time or another felt the pressure of trying to conform to this ideal. Fad diets,
excessive exercising, diuretics, and questionable diet products are just some of the things we have
tried in an attempt to fit in . Even women who would not be considered BBWs feel this pressure. Girls

attention is paid to Joker s lunacy. In this book, he is portrayed not as a complete and indisputable

evokes questions about the nature of madness and its understanding in our world. From the
philosophical perspective, this topic has been raised by numerous philosophers; among whom Michel

astonishingly similar to the one presented by Plato in Phaedrus. In this dialogue, Plato discusses the
relationship between madness, divinity, and love (eros). What is formed by a combination of madness
and love is a passion which is characterised as human madness. On the opposing side, there is divine
madness which Plato directly regards as a gift from the god. Among this category, four different
subtypes of madness are distinguished and one of them can be read as a perfect justification of Joker s

Hypothesis Vs Scientific Theory
The difference between a hypothesis and a scientific theory is that a hypothesis is a proposed
description while a scientific theory is a proven description for something. The difference between a
prediction and a hypothesis is that a prediction is a guess at what the results are going to be referring
to the proposed hypothesis, while a hypothesis is a proposed explanation where the experiment will be
based off of. A testable hypothesis would be useful in scientific experiments because it is testable, also
a directional hypothesis would be good because it is based off of theories. A non directional

Examples Of Root Cause Analysis
Chapter 2
Literature Review

2.1. Root Cause Analysis:
In Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is the process of identifying causal factors using a structured approach
with techniques designed to provide a focus for identifying and resolving problems. Tools that assist
groups or individuals in identifying the root causes of problems are known as root cause analysis
tools. Every equipment failure happens for a number of reasons.
There is a definite progression of actions and consequences that lead to a failure. Root Cause
Analysis is a step by step method that leads to the discovery of faults or root cause. An RCA
investigation traces the cause and effect trail from the end failure back to the root cause. It is much
like a detective solving a crime.

Like Cox and Spencer (1998), Dettmer
(1997) has also used root cause analysis on management of constraints. He presents one of the earliest
studies on the debate of applying Root Cause Analysis to processes. A proper management decision is
necessary to succeed the RCA tools and methods in a particular environment. Lepore and Cohen
(1999), Moran et al. (1990), Robson (1993) and Scheinkopf (1999) move ahead that when change is
needed, then think root cause analysing, identifying and eliminating. The foundations of their studies
are pioneering one as they question an accepted practice for root cause analysis and the results of the
example studies are encouraging.
However, the studies are far from being practical one as they include too many parameters and
assumptions. Smith (2000) has explained that Root Cause Tools can resolve conflicting strategies,
policies, and measures. The perception is that one tool is as good as another tool. While the literature
was quite complete on each tool as a stand alone application and their relationship with other problem
solving methods. There are very few literatures available on

Almost every little girl s dream when thinking ahead to her life in the future will include meeting
someone who will treat her right, later on be proposed to and become engaged, and eventually married
to live happily ever after. If life was always fair and just, then every little girl would definitely grow
up and have her dream come true. However, this obviously is not the case for many people, and
certainly was not what happened in the case of Meyer v. Mitnick. As presented in the overview of the

circumstances where, however, I do believe that the ring should be kept by the recipient. For instance,
if a woman became engaged and she later discovered that her fiancé had been cheating on her in an
affair, then she should be allowed to keep the ring. I believe this would also apply in the event of

The Double Meaning Of A Fairy Tale Or Myth

How Can Freedom Be Demanded
Freedom should be demanded, because not everyone listens when you ask for something, if anything
people would laugh at these people who want freedom and not take them seriously when they do ask
for freedom. If people take a stand and demand what they really want and show they want it and fight
for it there would be people standing up with that one person too, then there would be an uprising on
how people need freedom and demand it even more. A great example would be the the day Martin
Luther King Jr. took a stand and said his word on how there needs to be freedom and how it must be
demanded in order for us to get it, the day the pastor took a stand and demanded freedom for his
people (blacks) and as he kept saying his word and talking about freedom for the blacks more and
more people agreed with him and took a stand. It is a great example of how freedom should be
demanded and not given.
The reason people would laugh at the people asking for freedom and not take them seriously is
because these people would be in a higher class than others and laugh at the people who want the
same amount as the these people, they think that they are better than any one of of these people. They

Key Factors Of Successful Mitigation Projects Throughout...
Problem Statement Emergency managers in the United States have it easy compared to individuals
who work in the developing world. Although challenges like limited budgets or political will may be
universal problems, in places like Uganda, they are magnified. These areas are home to the most
vulnerable populations. Where poverty, little to no infrastructure or government services, and a lack of
access to education, create the potential for a disaster to inflict deviating damage. Mitigation programs
have the greatest potential for reducing the impact of such events. However, unlike the United States,
these countries often times don t have the resources to establish and maintain many types of mitigation
programs. As the world has started to become a globalized community, many industrialized nations
have recognized this need, and want to provide aid to these countries. Because of the reality that this
aid has its limits, and that every aid dollar is precious, it is important to be able to maximize the return
on this investment. This Research project will identify key factors of successful mitigation projects
throughout the developing world in order to establish a set of guidelines for future projects. With these
guidelines, valuable time and resources will be saved and mitigation projects will have maximum
impact on the communities they serve. This is not only a way of developing low cost projects to
developing nations, but it is a way of insuring that investors in these types

Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes is known as the World s Greatest Detective; however, Irene Alder may just be the
only person, male or female, that has ever defeated Holmes thinking machine of a brain. In his short
story, A Scandal in Bohemia, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle challenges traditional social perceptions and
gender assumptions toward British women in the 1890 s by creating tension with his characterization
of female antagonist, Irene Alder, as a powerful intellectual equal to male protagonist, Sherlock
Holmes. Irene, or The Woman, as she is known in future Sherlock Holmes stories, is a surprisingly full
character with a quick wit and amazingly sharp manipulation skills. She is characterized as a elegant
and talented opera singer from New Jersey living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is a powerful, intelligent Victorian woman, with a mind of her own, which is unusual for the
times. Irene Alder torments Sherlock s brilliant mind in subsequent Sherlock Holmes stories. He never
really recovers from being out witted and manipulated by a woman with superior intellect to his own.
Eventually, Sherlock Holmes asks the King only for her photograph as payment for his services. He
holds her in a place of reverence, as an intellectual equal. John Watson remarks, To Sherlock Holmes
she is always THE woman. I have seldom heard him mention her under any other name, (pg. 1). She
was a triple threat to the male gender, a rare combination of unforgettable beauty, undeniable grace
and unsurpassed intellect. Irene Alder is a woman to remember: strong, bright and capable of

The Cult Of True Womanhood Summary
In The Cult of True Womanhood by: Barbara Walters, she explains how women of the reform era were
expected to submit totally to their husbands and societal pressures to gain a high level of respect while
women that fell short of nearly unattainable standards were publicly ostracized. During this period in
America women were finally being recognized as important members of society, and on a more
personal level men were recognizing that women had emotional qualities that also held value. Women
were seen as more naturally pure and moral in this era. On top of moral obligations the mother of a
family had many worldly responsibilities. Women were expected to serve as nurse to the family, a
sexual and moral companion to the husband, and a spiritual figure within the community. On top of
their worldly duties women were also expected to be dainty, but not high maintenance, and
submissive, but not mindless. The reading of books was encouraged for maintaining a sharp mind, but
not books that were highly educated either, so the Bible became a constant source of knowledge and
moral guidance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From birth until marriage women were taught to retain their virginity because a woman s physical
form was all she truly owned. After a women had given this worldly possession away they had no
leverage and was expected to care of children and maintain the household. Loss of virginity before
marriage or a lack of affection for her children were grave accusations on a woman s moral character.
A woman that enjoyed sex before marriage was seen as disgraced in the eyes of God and the
community. Sensationalized accounts of disgraced women appeared in magazines and stories to
remind future mothers of the importance of keeping their gift. Women had to personify purity and
patience, while functioning as the head of the house, all while being completely overruled by the
wishes of their

Caesar chased Pompey to Egypt where Pompey was beheaded in Alexandria. This is where Cleopatra

another brother, Ptolemy XV, due to tradition. However she also became Caesar s mistress and

When she was just fourteen years old she met Marc Antony for the first time. When she met him later
in life she saw him as an opportunity for power and fame. She used her wit, charm, and wealth to gain
the interest of Marc Antony. They were later married in 37 b.c. In the winter of 41 40 b.c. Cleopatra

the Roman buildings are very impressive. The Roman Colosseum also known as the Flavian

Reflection Essay On The Prisoners Dilemma
In class Policy Making and Public Administration we played the Prisoners Dilemma, game on
Novermber 8th with professor, Dr.Jorgensen . The point of this game was that, each group had to
decide a color, either blue or red. Depending on the color we choose we would either add or loose
points. The team who ended with the most points will win. He separate the class in two groups, Team
1 and Team 2, I was in Team 2. As a group we had to choose a representative speaker. Our
representative speaker was Daniel Schawarts. He was in charge of speaking up and saying to
Dr.Jorgensen what color we chose as a group. After Dr. Jorgensen split up the team, my group step out
and discuss what we wanted to choose. At first we decided that we wanted to choose all blue, however
someone from the group spoke up and said, maybe we should decide to put in two reds. As a team we
came up with the plan to use the color red in our thirds and sixth simulation and call the rest color
blue. Since Dr. Jorgensen brought some prices to give to the team who won, I realize that it made
everyone more competitive to win. Therefore, at the end of the game Team 1 won. Their strategy was
to choose only reds. On the other hand the reason why we choose blue was because we were hoping
for the other team to choose blue, so we can gain points. As a result after playing this game we realize
the Evolution of Trust plays a big role during the game.
Game theory provides an interesting way of thinking about defense policy. In

The Invention Of The Electric Light Bulb
Can you ever imagine a world without light bulb? Before light bulb was created, the night can only be
lit by the moon and stars. People working and traveling after sunset could only use candles or oil
lamps, which caused many inconveniences. Without any bright light, moving inside your own house
even seemed dangerous. However, things changed after the ambitious inventors brought their bright
idea, which was to light the world, to life. The invention and the commercialization of light bulb not
only changed the way people live, but also became a technological breakthrough for future energy use
in our daily lives. The electric light bulb has been called the most important invention ever since the
discovery of fire. Before eighteenth centuries, there are limited sources of light. The most common
artificial light sources for people to use were only candles, oil lamps, and fire. These light sources not
only emitted very weak lights, but also produced smokes and awful orders, which made people
impossible to work productively after sundown. Many houses at that time period were made of
timbers, therefore, having fire or open flame inside the house was hazardous. Once a house caught on
fire, the entire neighborhood would be in danger, since there was no running water inside the
buildings. Darkness was the epitome of evil. When the sun went down and darkness spread through,
the night became the realm of crime. The darkness worked as the perfect cover for thief, murderer, and
rapist.

Yellow Light Lab Report
Abstract:
People want to avoid insects being attracted to lights at parties, so some people take to buying yellow
insect repellent bulbs. A yellow bulb as an insect repellent bulb is strange because insects are capable
of seeing the color yellow and some insects are even attracted to yellow. What consumers need to
know is if yellow light bulbs repel insect. This lab s objective was to determine if nocturnal insects are
repelled by yellow lights and how that repulsion compares to red, soft white, or a black light. The
most important materials needed in this experiment were a lamp, a variety of light bulbs, and fly
paper. The results show that insects are more attracted to soft white light and black light than the
insects are to red or yellow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Insects may not be as active during overcast conditions. Only two beetles were captured during the
duration of this experiment because local beetles may not have been within range of the light source
and it is still too early in the spring for an excess of beetles. This study needs to be improved by
extending the number of nights each light is utilized and by testing the different light colors at
different seasons of the year.

The Destiny Of 17000 Disappeared
The destiny of 17,000 disappeared individuals stays obscure, more than 24 years after Lebanon s
polite war. Families are pushing for answers. The parents need an answer for their questions and they
also need to know the destiny of these disappeared. As a feature of the post war era, this issue never
truly resonated with the majority of us, partly because the issue was so secretive and the numbers are
very formidable. I can only see how difficult waking up each day and hoping an important person who
s you loved would come knock at your door after a long period, and how even more hard when the
knock on the door isn t this person that you think. In many different conditions, the pair may miss the
long absence, until it is on the list of missing persons who no one knows anything about them. Here
begins the tragedy of the wife, that find themselves spoon, is it neither wife nor it is divorced. The
disappeared in Lebanon Disappeared individual is an individual whose whereabouts are obscure to his
relatives or who on the base of credible information, has been convey losing in connection with an
international or non international equipped conflict, a status of inside violence or disturbances.
Uncertainty about the destiny of a loved one is a cruel truth for uncounted families caught up in armed
strife or another status of violence. Parents, relatives, husband or wife and babies across the world are

Examples Of Escapism In Pan s Labyrinth
Pan s Labyrinth and how Escapism can Ruin you. In Pan s Labyrinth, the character of Ophelia
represents how escapism s disconnect from reality might cause damage to relationships and severe
injury or death. Towards the beginning of the story, Ophelia s discovery of the fawn and the revelation
of her being, The daughter of the king of the underworld, shows how she uses escapism as a means of
creating a fictitious world that helps her avoid the new, horrible life that she endures under her
stepfather. However, the adventures that this fantasy sends her on creates a strain in her relationships
with her mother and stepfather, which becomes evident when her mother reprimands her saying, You
have disappointed me, and your father too. Furthermore, when the faun gives her a mandrake root as a
remedy for her mother s illness, it demonstrates how Ophelia uses escapism as an outlet for her fear,
and as a means of feeling like she has some control over whether her mother lives or dies. However,
when the mother burns the mandrake root shouting, Magic does not exist. Not for you, me or anyone
else, and then immediately dies during childbirth, it represents how Ophelia s escapism ... Show more

  • 2. Ancient India Vs. Ancient China Essay Ancient India vs. Ancient China Early Indian and Chinese civilizations were very advanced for their times. For example some areas of the Indus Valley had sewer systems while the Chinese mastered the art of spinning Silk. The first modern humans in China date back 50,000 years. Their populations today outnumber any country to date, which can be linked to their rich heritage dating back thousands of years. The early people of the Indus Valley were seen as the first civilization of India beginning around 3200 B.C.E. and lasted until the Indo Aryans came at around 1600 B.C.E... Judging by the varying qualities of the homes discovered, they had a class system of some sort. They also had an economy consisting of agriculture and domestic animals. And, as mentioned before, they even had sewer systems in the more populated areas. Once the Indo Aryans came, the culture of the Indus Valley people became intertwined in the new ideas of these new people. The Indo Aryans brought with them an economy dependent on cattle. Other animals like sheep, goats, and horses were also valued. Grains such as barley were grown as well. They also had musical instruments, including flutes, drums and cymbals. Their government consisted of a Raja, or king, of certain areas. The Raja mainly protected the people, taking on the responsibility of defending his land. The gods were called Devas, similar to the Greek gods, and were used as personifications of natural forces. One deity was called Indra, who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Classical Theory Of Criminal Activity It is only appropriate to believe that the severity of penalties given to an individual whom committed a crime should be proportionate to the crime in which they engaged in, no more than what is necessary, but enough in order to deter the offender from participating in another crime. This approach is applied in such ways because it is believed that criminal activity is a rational choice, chosen because they perceive it to be in their best interest. Criminals make a rational choice and choose to do criminal acts due to maximum pleasure and minimum pain (Classical School of Criminology, 2012) Cesare Beccaria contributed to the classical theory greatly, and introduced several attributions to the justice system which advanced it immensely. Views were consistent with Beccaria s utilitarian beliefs that sought to maximize the public benefit by achieving the greatest amount of good for the most people . (Newman, Freilich 133 1997; Newman Margongiu, 1997) The Classical Theory has resulted in positive advancements in the justice system for various reasons. Firstly, it is forward looking utilitarian models designed to promote the public good (Freilich, J., 2014, 138), also, it embraces scientific principles to achieve their goals and seek to temper harsh punishments of their times (Freilich, J., 2014, 138). These are beneficial for the justice system because communities independently choose the crime reduction strategy which they are comfortable with, and believe will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Disadvantages Of A Big Family There are many different components that make up a family especially a big family. A common misconception is that all people in a family are similar, but the truth is that in order to have a family you have different people that love each other despite those differences. Most of the time the largest part of a family is the children, and the way that the kids interact is interesting. There are five different categories that siblings really fall into that make up a family. The superior one is the first type of sibling. This duty usually falls to the oldest in the family which only makes sense because they often think that just because they came first that they know best. They always make sure that you know what they think about your actions, and they are kind enough to give constructive criticism even when not asked. How considerate! However, being the all knowing sibling is not the only responsibility of this type. They also are either a mommy or daddy s kid. This duty is taken extremely seriously, and they feel that it is absolutely a necessity to defend their parent whenever their so called honor is in danger from another sibling. How they protect their parent is actually quite simple where they will use a superbly developed matter of fact tone to degrade their fellow kin back to kindergarten and ask questions such as, Why are you so upset? or You know you don t have to yell. The key to this technique is to make sure that this is all done in front of their parent in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Call Of Duty Historical Facts Video games are one of the many ways that history is present in my daily life. Many videogames try to replicate history and Call of Duty is one of them. I am going to be focusing on Call of Duty: World at War. This version of the game is about the Second World War, and you get to play as soldiers on both sides on the war. The game is very brutal and violent, and because you will be playing as an American soldier and as a Germen soldier, the game can better explain what happened during WW2. My initial thoughts about the historical facts that take place during the game was that they were inaccurate. Because the game was developed and published by American companies, I automatically thought that it would favor the Allies and specially The United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Value Of The Currency Alone Will Not Improve The Trade... There are too many factors that may limit the growth needed to reach the balance to get out of debt. Devaluing the currency alone will not improve the trade balance. Instead, there becomes a need to limit the consumption. In the case of food imports, which accounts for about 12 percent of import expenditure in Sri Lanka, the government expects the price increases to result in import substitution, which will likely take time. The most forceful argument for devaluation is that it ensures the competitiveness of exports. The question here is whether the extent of depreciation would be adequate to ensure that the real effective exchange rate would ensure competitiveness. Again, there are some governments that do try to attempt to influence the value of their currency by ways of intervention. The most notable offender in recent years is that of China, who has sought to keep its currency undervalued to make Chinese exports more competitive against other heavily traded Asian markets. They can do this by buying US dollar assets, which increases the value of the US dollar to Chinese Yuan ratio. (Factors Which Influence the Exchange Rate) Because the current financial status is so heavily dependent on exporting, the continuous management of the exchange rate to ensure export competitiveness is essential for China and Sri Lanka. A reduction in exports could affect the economy seriously as a decline in exports could affect economic growth, employment and incomes. (Sanderatne) It has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Elements Of The Law Of Negligence In our judgement the law is clear. The ingredients of the offence have been clearly defined, and the principles decided in the House of Lords in Adomako . They involve no uncertainty. The hypothetical citizen, seeking to know his his position, would be advised that, assuming he owed a duty of care to the deceased which he had negligently broken, and that death resulted, he would be liable to conviction for manslaughter if, on the available evidence, the jury was satisfied that his negligence was gross. Per Judge LJ R. v. Misra and Srivastava [2004] EWCA Crim 2375 para 64 (in the Court of Appeal Criminal Division) In light of the above comments, consider the elements of the offence of Gross Negligence Manslaughter and, referring to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lord Mackay LC, when considering the case of Adomako, said that the ordinary principles of law of negligence apply to ascertain whether or not D has been in breach of a duty of care towards the victim . By looking at the above statement, it is clear that those same principles should apply in determining these people to whom a duty of care is owed. These principles can be found in the leading negligence case of Donoghue v Stevenson (1932). In this case, Lord Atkin in the House of Lords said you must take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which you can reasonably foresee would be likely to injure your neighbour (...) persons who are closely and directly affected by my act that I ought reasonably to have them in contemplation as being so affected when I am directing my mind to the acts or omissions which are called into question . It can be argued that this goes much further than the traditional duty situations. If this examination is correct, then this form of manslaughter has certainly a very wide scope. Nevertheless, the principles of criminal and civil law do not always go well together. This is demonstrated by the case of Wacker (2003), which involved the bodies of 58 illegal immigrants and two survivors which were found in a lorry at Dover. The D was convicted of 58 counts of manslaughter by gross negligence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most people didn t realize this and they continued this process. Then, problems appeared like flooding. However, there are still some people feel the significance of the problems. (Cited from http://www.diabetes.org/diabetes basics/diabetes statistics/) Seriously, syrup is the culprit and we can see it everywhere from drinks, snacks, food, and oil. Hastings et al call syrup empty calories because syrup can t give people any benefit; otherwise people still need to do a lot exercise to burn those calories. In the Deadly Noodles , Hastings et al said in both developed and developing countries, people are doing less and less activities, so diabetes always trouble people there. Compared with Hastings et al, Michael Pollan is a real detective at this issue, who see the truth for why there is growing more diabetes. He said generally, it s us, not something else, are doing contributing to the diseases. Government over subsidizes on crops especially on crop syrup, then syrup becomes cheaper and is used more comprehensively in producing what people eat every day, and finally, as people consume more, they get bigger possibility to get diabetes. • 11. Poe Vs Usher I see numerous variances and parallels concerning Edgar Allen Poe s The Fall of the House of Usher and The Purloined Letter, as well as the overall appeal of the story it has to me. Poe uses the main character as the speakers but he is nameless. This entire account is told in the first person view since the speaker does partake in the action of the story. I realized that what the storyteller is observing and witnessing the events. I examined the credibility of the circumstances. They seem more like associates than childhood friends since they haven t seen or spoken to one other in years! Usher observably recounts are strong about his identical sister as enthusiastically and somatic state. Madeline seems to be one entity to Usher but also his was interconnected to the manor as well. The crack splits the family. Roderick and Madeline die, terminating the clan. The speaker says there is a wild inconsistency between still perfect adaptations and the collapsing state of the different stones. This is symbolic to me. The stones symbolize the different member of the Usher family, and the whole mansion represents the family. The temperaments created in each story are totally unalike. The Fall of the House of Usher comes off as an unusually low spirited impression with every detail adding to the disheartening vision. The story, impressions of fear raises, partly because Poe is infamous for it his melancholic dismay tales, however frequently for the actual prediction. In the 1960 s several attempts were made to use Deere s RQD for estimating in situ deformation modulus, but this approach is seldom used today (Deere 1988). Some theoretical expressions have been derived for simple joint geometries derived a mathematical procedure to calculate the deformation modulus of an equivalent continuum for a randomly jointed rock mass. However, these simple expressions are inadequate as they assume the discontinuities are dispersed in a regular manner that is not realistic for practical purposes. The deformation of the rock mass can be quantified by using the following equations evaluated by Deere and Miller (1966) as indicated in the table below. In Fig. 6(c) the averages of estimated and UCS values are shown per unit. In Fig. 4.1 no differentiation is made for the direction of the measurements. Fig. 6(a) shows that the scatter is wide and consequently only low or no correlation can be seen. The distribution is skewed to higher values, e.g. the UCS values are higher than the estimated values. For high strength values the distribution of the differences is more normal but the average values of the UCS tests per estimated strength class are lower than the averages of the estimated values. A quite good correlation is found for the averages per unit (Fig. 6(c)). The environment, defined by Duncan (1972) as the totality of physical and social factors that are taken directly into consideration in the decision making behavior of individuals in the organization has changed for the Senate. Specifically, the collective bargaining agreement put in place has changed the social structure of the relationship between the faculty and the administration. The previously understood purview of the Senate has been altered by this significant environmental change. The process undertaken to brainstorm the issue of Senate direction was an example of the senate working to modify an element of the university collegium in place at BGSU. University collegium is described by Downey (2006) in part as: the complex network of assumptions, traditions, protocols, relations and structures which permit the professoriate to control the academic affairs of the institution . Utilizing general principles of social constructionism, ideas were considered by the senators in an informal peer to peer fashion to address the above questions. Working as a community of scholars with a wide variety of specializations, the senators made an effort to collectively define a new role for the Senate. A great example would be the the day Martin Luther King Jr. took a stand and said his word on how there needs to be freedom and how it must be demanded in order for us to get it, the day the pastor took a stand and demanded freedom for his people (blacks) and as he kept saying his word and talking about freedom for the blacks more and more people agreed with him and took a stand. It is a great example of how freedom should be demanded and not given. The reason people would laugh at the people asking for freedom and not take them seriously is because these people would be in a higher class than others and laugh at the people who want the same amount as the these people, they think that they are better than any one of of these people. They think ... • 40. Key Factors Of Successful Mitigation Projects Throughout... Problem Statement Emergency managers in the United States have it easy compared to individuals who work in the developing world. Although challenges like limited budgets or political will may be universal problems, in places like Uganda, they are magnified. These areas are home to the most vulnerable populations. Where poverty, little to no infrastructure or government services, and a lack of access to education, create the potential for a disaster to inflict deviating damage. Mitigation programs have the greatest potential for reducing the impact of such events. However, unlike the United States, these countries often times don t have the resources to establish and maintain many types of mitigation programs. As the world has started to become a globalized community, many industrialized nations have recognized this need, and want to provide aid to these countries. The Cult Of True Womanhood Summary In The Cult of True Womanhood by: Barbara Walters, she explains how women of the reform era were expected to submit totally to their husbands and societal pressures to gain a high level of respect while women that fell short of nearly unattainable standards were publicly ostracized. During this period in America women were finally being recognized as important members of society, and on a more personal level men were recognizing that women had emotional qualities that also held value. Women were seen as more naturally pure and moral in this era. On top of moral obligations the mother of a family had many worldly responsibilities. Women were expected to serve as nurse to the family, a sexual and moral companion to the husband, and a spiritual figure within the community. On top of their worldly duties women were also expected to be dainty, but not high maintenance, and submissive, but not mindless. The team who ended with the most points will win. He separate the class in two groups, Team 1 and Team 2, I was in Team 2. As a group we had to choose a representative speaker. Our representative speaker was Daniel Schawarts. He was in charge of speaking up and saying to Dr.Jorgensen what color we chose as a group. After Dr. Jorgensen split up the team, my group step out and discuss what we wanted to choose. At first we decided that we wanted to choose all blue, however someone from the group spoke up and said, maybe we should decide to put in two reds. As a team we came up with the plan to use the color red in our thirds and sixth simulation and call the rest color blue. Since Dr. Jorgensen brought some prices to give to the team who won, I realize that it made everyone more competitive to win. Therefore, at the end of the game Team 1 won. Their strategy was to choose only reds. On the other hand the reason why we choose blue was because we were hoping for the other team to choose blue, so we can gain points. As a result after playing this game we realize the Evolution of Trust plays a big role during the game. Game theory provides an interesting way of thinking about defense policy. In ... People working and traveling after sunset could only use candles or oil lamps, which caused many inconveniences. Without any bright light, moving inside your own house even seemed dangerous. However, things changed after the ambitious inventors brought their bright idea, which was to light the world, to life. The invention and the commercialization of light bulb not only changed the way people live, but also became a technological breakthrough for future energy use in our daily lives. The electric light bulb has been called the most important invention ever since the discovery of fire. Before eighteenth centuries, there are limited sources of light. The most common artificial light sources for people to use were only candles, oil lamps, and fire. These light sources not only emitted very weak lights, but also produced smokes and awful orders, which made people impossible to work productively after sundown. Many houses at that time period were made of timbers, therefore, having fire or open flame inside the house was hazardous. Once a house caught on fire, the entire neighborhood would be in danger, since there was no running water inside the buildings. Darkness was the epitome of evil. When the sun went down and darkness spread through, the night became the realm of crime. The darkness worked as the perfect cover for thief, murderer, and rapist. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
