The Five Overlords In Ancient Greece
Athens Greece 755 BC: Aeschylus, King of Athens, dies after a reign of 23 years and is succeeded by
Alcmaeon. 753 BC: Alcmaeon, King of Athens, dies after a reign of 2 years. He is replaced by Harops,

Olympic Games, is in the western part of the Peloponnese which, according to Greek mythology, is
the island of Pelops , the founder of the Olympic Games. Imposing temples, votive buildings,
elaborate shrines and ancient sporting facilities were combined in a site of unique natural and mystical
beauty. Olympia functioned as a meeting place for worship and other religious and political practices

In Chinese history they are known as the Five Overlords in the Spring and Autumn Period . In the
latter part of the Spring and Autumn period, two states, Wu and Yue became even more powerful and
contended for overall hegemony. Finally Yue was defeated, and submitted to Wu. However, Gou Jian,
the king of Yue, continuously galled by his defeat decided to seek revenge. Simultaneously, he trained
his army, and developed agriculture. Eventually, Yue State became strong enough and defeated Wu.
According to recorded history, during the Spring and Autumn Period, there were over 480 wars, 52
vassal states were vanquished, and 36 kings were killed. During the Spring and Autumn Period the
imperial house, with priestly, ritualistic, and diplomatic functions but with diminishing authority,
slowly sank out of sight as the local nobles struggled with one another for power. Survival required
coalitions, both political and economic, as well as the accumulation of productive wealth. To this end,
many drainage operations, canals, dikes, reservoirs, roads, and the like were undertaken, often on an

Deductive Approach Paper
The inductive approach to research refers to a strategy where the researcher starts the study gathering
all the data relevant to the topic being studied. When they have collected all the necessary information,
the researcher conducts an in depth review of the data with the aim of developing a deep
understanding of the concept being studied. The researcher explores the data making observations on
crucial points and establishing all the significant patterns crucial to determining the outcomes. Then,
the researcher develops a theory that helps him to explain the reasons for the development of the
observed patterns. Therefore, the technique involves the shift from the specifics to a general
observation that can be applied in the overall case. After the analysis of the data, the researcher
explores the existing theories on the topic and positions the newly developed theory within the
existing body of knowledge (Creswell, 2003).
The deductive approach is the opposite of the procedure followed in inductive research. The study ...

My Defining Moment Essay
I jumped out of bed, it was time I thought the time I had been waiting for so long, I ran over and to my
nightstand and grabbed the socks and jumped all the stairs, I felt like I could fly, until I hit the ground
and rolled. Then I hurried over to the front door and grabbed my shoes, Come on! My dad said from
the car outside, and right as I left I could hear my brothers yelling at me, go back to bed! , no I yelled
from the door and ran outside still feeling pleased with myself, and my dad drove off. Once we arrived
at the skate shop, I was amazed at all the different skateboards and scooters, but my thinking was
interrupted by my dad, ready to get yours he said, I shook my head speechless in excitement. Once we
got started, I was in a trance watching them make and put together skate boards, once I picked out
mine, they told us to wait half an hour, so we decided to go to an ice cream shop nearby, once I got my
cotton candy flavored ice cream me and my dad sat on a bench outside the shop. My I cream started to
melt and I could feel the ice cold liquid run thru my fingers, and hit my foot like ice cold rain. It
seemed like hours until we finally heard the loud beep from the store when we went back inside the
store. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Economic History of Countries
1. Are there any hidden assumptions or price rigidities in the country or countries that might inhibit
market force indicators from revealing the true economic health of the country, thereby either
preventing government policy actions from correcting the problems or otherwise making them
ineffective and counterproductive? This is absolutely the case. Prior economic histories of countries
around the world have proven that there are general results that can be expected from a given action or
series of actions, but this does not always hold true. The current state of affairs in the United States is
a glistening example of that. The groundwork and root statistics of the United States economy circa
February 2013 are pretty good, but jobless rates are still too high and GDP growth is anemic to
nothing. There are two commonly attributable reasons for that. The first is that businesses are being
very conservative with their funds. They re not investing and spending the way they usually would
because of the uneven and unpredictable conditions that are seen with the federal government, the
level of spending in general and the wider market.
The second primary reason that the economy is seemingly stuck in low gear is because consumer
spending is way down, just as home values are way down, and this has led to a much higher savings
rates rather than consumers making purchases discretionary and high ticket items in general.
What this leads to is that even if the government of the United

Cursive Is A Powerful Brain Tool
There is no standard way of taking notes. Although students have their own methods of studying and
taking notes, it has been proven that cursive writing is more beneficial to students rather than taking
notes. Most educational programs do not require students to learn cursive writing while some do. It
has been proven to be more effective to those who take notes rather than those who type their notes. In
the article Cursive Is a Powerful Brain tool the author gives a variety of examples as to why cursive
writing is a beneficial writing technique to students. Psychologists did a study on students who
handwrote notes and students who typed their notes. In paragraph 2, the author states, In one study,
psychologists found students learned

Labour Strikes In The United States
Labor Strikes Labor strikes are common in the United States. You might be wondering what a labor
strike is. Well, a labor strike is when a worker or a group of workers protest by refusing to work. But,
what are they protesting? Most of the time they are protesting because of their work conditions. These
include, horrible security, not being paid enough, or they re being disrespected. I probably wouldn t go
on strike. If I did, I wouldn t do crazy things such as, breaking things or fighting people. In 2013, there
was a school bus strike in NYC. During the strike, bus drivers refused to show up and pick up the kids
for school. This affected students and parents. Kids couldn t get to school because they didn t have

Working As An Intern For Placer Times
Working as an intern for Placer Times, a major newspaper company in Addis Ababa, Africa, I am here
to have my voice heard. I grew up in a big city where no one had a car. We either walked, took trams,

since then, I have been interning at big news paper companies in big cities all around the world. I have
traveled to many cities, reporting local news and thus never really got a chance to settle down. I am

The man had no ID on him, so the officers could not identify who he was. The body of this man was
never clamed. He was named Victim 001. 001 represented the unknown future victims that might
come from other autonomous car accidents. Although these autonomous cars can drive themselves, the
occupant still has the responsibility to press the emergency break when necessary. Chris Rodriquez,
the occupant of the car in this instance, had just gotten his masters from UCLA and was about to pitch

Root Cellar Theodore Roethke Analysis
Theodore Roethke s poem Root Cellar has one stanza, and eleven lines total. Upon first reading the
title, I admit that it doesn t strike me as very original. This poem can very well be a description of the
author s cellar; a snapshot of an event being held in said cellar. The author begins with telling us that
nothing would sleep in [the] cellar . At first I pondered why the author would put that part in at the
very beginning, but as I read on I found that the beginning was the correct placement; it pulled the
reader (me) in, and had me asking, Why wouldn t anything sleep down there? Was it hot? Musty?
Dark? The author describes the cellar as dark, and uses similes, dank as a ditch and, roots ripe as old
bait to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They then go on to describe the rotting roots, the decomposing leaves, the lime, etc. to further the
feeling of disgust when one thinks of such a place. The last two lines threw me for a loop however.
Nothing would give up life: Even the dirt kept breathing a small breath. Suddenly, my thoughts of
disgust transformed to more positive ones. Instead of thinking, Why would anyone allow something to
become so disgusting? , I think about how the leaves and the roots refused to go away. The shoots
continued to hang, low and in the way; the leaves and roots continued to make their presence known
by giving off the strong smell of decomposing matter. After reading the poem, I m still not 100% sure
on what the theme is. There was a shift from negative to positive in the last three lines, and lots of
imagery. Even then the poem still comes across as abstract and slightly vague. The author could be
describing their life; maybe the run down cellar and decaying roots are representations of an unhappy
or dysfunctional childhood. Maybe, in writing this, they are accepting that those memories will never
go away, but they don t define who they are. Or maybe the author is describing a time when they went
to get something from their cellar, and realized how disgusting it was. As always, it s whatever the
reader wants it to

Benefits Of Children s Literature
Benefits of Children s Literature Children who read literature usually have sheer enjoyment for
reading, and as this continues will instils a sense of love for literature as they mature and get older.
Children s literature engages the child, and creates a pattern, a ritual whereby children continue to
read, and there by learn and grow from all its other benefits. There are many benefits to reading as a
child, one of the main benefits of reading is a Social development, this includes emotional, cultural
benefits and also reading can promote language development. Through reading in particular, pupils
have a chance to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. Literature,
especially, plays a key role in such development (DfES. National Cirriculum. 2013). Reading to
children may be the single most important thing that any child can do to improve children s chances
for success emotionally, culturally and improve language skills. Literature can be used in a way where
children are able to understand situations and life experience that may come their way. When we think

every child has a different cultural background (Medwell, J .2007). This suggests that children s
literature that offer cultural benefits can act as a mutual ground for children to understand, and learn
about a variety of cultural experiences that they may not be familiar with, it is helping the reader to
value people from all races, ethnic groups and cultures. As well and building new cultural knowledge

Feminist Criticism of Frankenstein and The Yellow Wallpaper
Feminism in literature has existed as early as the 16th century, the belief that men and women should
have equal rights and opportunities (Shneir, Miram). Throughout history, women have portrayed the
idea of feminism in literature, with one of the most famous feminist writers being Mary Shelley.
Shelley was born in 1797 into a notable family, with her mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, being a
renowned feminist writer herself (Biogram). Her novel Frankenstein was published in 1818, a time
when most women were extremely conservative, and were deprived of the rights and opportunities
that men held. In the novel, Shelley portrays feminism by essentially mocking women and giving
them a lack of power showing how women should not be. One way Shelley mocks women in
Frankenstein is the societal role she gives her female characters. This is first seen in the beginning of
the novel, when young Elizabeth is presented to Victor Frankenstein in the form of a pretty present
(Shelley 7), portraying Elizabeth as being in a sense a gift to Victor, causing her to be seen as inferior
to him. Elizabeth s physical appearance is also frequently referred to: her golden hair, blue eyes, and
thin body; but rarely are her non superficial attributes, assuming that those hold little value. The focus
on only the physicality of women is also portrayed in The Birthmark by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The
short story discusses a husband, Alymer s, wishes to have his wife s facial birthmark removed, due to

A Modern State And Public Water Systems
A modern state is a set of organisations and institutions related to the function of the government; its
role is to provide order, policy, revenue, internal and external representation, and services.1 When the
state fails to govern the commons, that is, the land or resources affecting the whole community,
private companies take over. Within the past several decades privatization of the freshwater sources
and public water systems is widespread worldwide. Yet, private companies provide water guided by
the principle of the financial gain and not based on the equal distribution paradigm, and such approach
makes poverty stricken suffer the most, while the wealthy remain intact. In California, the region of
the world having the seventh largest world s economy,2 billionaires hoard water in the water banks
that have been quietly gifted to them by the government. 3 These water bank systems allow to
accumulate water in the underground reservoirs for water bank holders needs or for purpose of
leasing.4 One such system, Kern Water Bank, a thirty square miles of marshland filled with flocks of
birds,5, is used to water pomegranate trees, a key ingredient in production of the fruit drink by POM
Wonderful, a company owned by the billionaires Stewart and Lynda Resnick.6 Ironically, Kern Water
Bank Authority, technically a public agency, is subsidized by the Paramount Farming Company, a
company with world s largest pistachio and almond production, which is also owned by the Resnicks.

Neuroanatomy Essay
Neuroanatomy is the study of structure and function relationships in the brain and nervous system. As
this encompasses a study of both macroscopic and microscopic structures, a variety of histological
tools have been developed to enable that endeavor
Microscopy
Microscopy is an important technique for studying the structure and function of the nervous system.
This is enabled through the use of histological staining, in which a tissue of interest is preserved and
sectioned, and then stained using one of an array of techniques.
Histological staining provides contrast to the tissue so that details can be distinguished. For example,
gray matter contains neuron cell bodies, or somata, that can be stained to become visible under a
microscope. Nissl stains are useful for gray matter. For white matter of the brain, dyes such as Luxol

Histochemistry studies can reveal the molecular interactions of structures, such as neurotransmitter
production and activity, metabolism, immune function, and other interactions. Histochemistry can also
be used to reveal chemoarchitecture or chemical neuroanatomy.
Immunocytochemistry is a type of histochemistry that makes use of antibodies to visualize cell types,
axons, neuron structures, glial processes, blood vessels, or molecular components of cells like
neurotransmitters and intranuclear proteins. Immunocytochemical studies can also be used for
genomics studies of nervous system cells. Combining these techniques with a fluorescent stain allows
visualization of enzyme binding sites and reactions.
In situ hybridization is also an important histochemical tool for neuroanatomy studies. It uses
synthetic ribonucleic acid (RNA) probes to visualize complementary messenger RNA (mRNA)
transcripts of genes in the cell. This can help to reveal gene function.

Essay about master harold
Athol Fugard s Master Harold . . . and the Boys is about Hally, a white young man, and the damage

apartheid, in Hally s parents restaurant. This is where two black servants, Sam and Willie, work for the
white family. Sam and Willie have been a part of Hally s upbringing and are close friends. The play is

The two of them were up there for a long time; the only bench on the hill read whites only. The bench
is the symbol of apartheid, division, hatred, and racism. It is apartheid that Hally hides behind as he
uses Sam and Willie as his scapegoat. Hally is filled with so much rage over his father, he is torn
between love and hate. When the conflict supernovas, Hally lashes out on his two black friends. He
tries to pretend they are not friends by acting strictly like a boss. Carrying on with this little man
routine, Hally asks Sam to call him Master Harold. Sam would only do this if they were no longer
friends; Hally would be no different from his father. This is the case for, when he spits in Sam s face,
Hally becomes Master Harold. Apartheid is victorious in the corruption of another white male as Hally
takes his place on the bench of segregation. If you re not careful . . . Master Harold . . . you re going to
be sitting up there by yourself for a long time to come, and there won t be a kite in the sky . On a
political viewpoint we see that even if a white wanted to go against the norm of the system it was
almost impossible due to the environment. Another point is that here we see that the blacks tried to
appease the whites anger but enough is enough and then the blacks anger would flair up, would the
whites try appease them?

1000 Words on Accountability
Accountability is defined by department of defense as the obligation imposed by a law or lawful order
or regulation on an officer or other person for keeping an accurate record of government property,
documents or funds. The numerical end product of personnel accountability process reflects the
combat power of a unit. So what is Personnel accountability exactly? Personnel accountability is a by
name tracking system that manages the duty status and location of every single soldier assigned or
attached to a unit. This tracking system also tracks the soldiers as they arrive to the unit, and depart
from the unit for duty. Personnel accountability must be maintained at all times, for an inaccurate
count will lead to disastrous outcomes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it reflects poorly on the commander in charge of the task. Which leads to punishment of the
leadership in charge of the soldiers who did not report and were not accurately accounted for.
Accountability for personnel aids in the accessing of a unit s assets and combat readiness is called
personnel strength reporting. Personnel strength reporting is a command function that enables a unit as
a whole, to analyze the manning levels and readiness to provide commanders with a snapshot of the
unit s combat power and capabilities. The formula to achieve a Personnel Strength report is achieved
by comparing the by name data obtained during the Personnel accountability process and face it
against the specified authorizations to determine the percentage of the slots filled for certain positions
within a unit. Even though Strength reporting seems to be only important for the deployment process
one has to think of the capabilities of each and every by name soldier within the unit, if the soldiers do
not report to training how will they every be prepared for when it comes to combat situations. So
therefore even in garrison we need to maintain accurate numbers on the soldiers accounted for. If the
numbers are inaccurate in garrison, what is it to say when it comes to combat situations? How will
soldiers know how to perform their duties while they are in combat if they did not attend the specified
training that is there

Singapore And The New Xyz Co. Singapore
Our team has received a great opportunity to prove ourselves by working abroad at the new XYZ Co.
Singapore branch. We understand this is an important endeavor for the company and we aim to
surpass our target goals reached in St. Louis. Because we are entering unfamiliar territory, I have
researched three key topics that are pinpointed in this document: Hofstede s Value Dimensions, doing
business in Singapore and everyday living. Adjusting our current procedures to the standards and
norms of Singapore will be essential to our success in this foreign society. By understanding these
topics I have no doubt that we will be prepared for employment in Singapore. HOFSTEDE S VALUE
DIMENSIONS Many important assumptions can be drawn from comparing Singapore and America s
scores on the Hofstede s Value Dimensions. Power distance describes how people respond to
inequality in power in society (Daft). Singapore scores high on power distance, at 74 compared to the
U.S s 40. This means that authority is centralized and control is to be expected (http://geert
hofstede.com/singapore.html). An individualistic society is a society where individuals are expected to
provide for themselves (Daft). Individualism ranks very low, scoring 20 compared to 91 in the U.S.
This is where the biggest difference lies between American and Singapore. America is a highly
individualistic society while Singapore is a collectivistic society. Mutual respect is expected and
conflicts are to be avoided

can mean getting uncomfortable, and living more deliberately, or intentionally. It
means starting to live your dreams, and stop living the lie, move forward with a new

There is no guarantee of success, however, the climbers of the highest mountains in

Dbq Loyalists Essay
Loyalists In between 1760 and 1800, conflict ensued between Great Britain and the American
colonies, now the United States. Because of certain events and documents, those who had not chosen a
side would have benefitted more if indecisive individuals become loyal to the British crown. Those
who obeyed to Great Britain were known as loyalists, or, according to the DBQ Theme assignment,
Tories. The unsure colonists would benefit more if converting to loyalists because of Great Britain s
power and strength, economic superiority, and that the patriots are of barbaric and violent nature. Also,

Two decent examples that Document 4 gives are, Value of the dollar dropped throughout the war, and,

Furthermore, at around 1781, it can be inferred that the Continental Dollar completely lost its value as

When discussing various issues affecting the federal government, transparency issues have to be put
on the front line because the Federal Reserve s should have one of the most transparent systems. The
Federal Reserve transparency act was formulated in order to ensure that there is transparency in the
federal reserves through making the federal government publicize most of the financial institutions
that it offers loans to and the organizations which use the open market operations in order to purchase

Most of the balance sheets concerning the federal government activities and the financial statements
have to be made clear to the public through auditing. This is because most of these reports are not
detailed in terms of the various transactions with the foreign governments in the US and the central
banks in the US. This forms a major concern in terms of auditing the federal reserves. With the proper
support of auditing the federal reserves, it can make the various reports to be conclusive in terms of
transactions carried out between the federal reserves and the other governments. Most of the working
balances dealing with the foreign currencies and offering contracts are not related to the monetary
policy operations in the FRBNY. In the financial statements, most of these incomes are recognized as
others. Most of the proponents in support of auditing want to know the why, the who and the how
much money was involved in such dealings. Greater details would be able to signify issues of
accountability and not indicating using one number, others in the financial statements.
There is less public knowledge in issues dealing with FOMC meetings and that has been able to affect

George Lemaitre And The Big Bang Theory
Good morning/afternoon Ms Jungmann and class.
Now we all know that before life has begun, there was nothing. But the big bang theory is a scientific
way to explain what happened at the very beginning of our universe.
George Lemaitre is the priest and physicist who was born in 1894 in Charleroi, Belgium that perhaps
made the greatest discovery in modern cosmology, the discovery that our universe is expanding. In his
early age, he was attracted to both theology and science but was soon interrupted by World war 1.
However, after the war, he soon studied theoretical physics and in 1923 he was ordained as an abbe.
Lemaitre then pursued his scientific studies and studied astronomy at Cambridge University and

to symbolism the cat that she mentions in the first part of the short story is a symbol to not only help
connect to the audience but create the feeling and the atmosphere to portray her feeling towards her
situation with her abandoned life. The woman also states how the world was fading and unthinking
itself and that in itself could be quite confusing but Kleeman is making the woman describe the world
to be disappearing faster than anyone can imagine (Kleeman) and in reality it s just the woman that is
withdrawing from life (Gregory). The woman is stating how she s just standing outside her loved ones
house calling for him even though she knows no one will answer, almost like something from a

In this essay I will discuss the health inclusion issues affecting people with a learning disability with
regards to healthy eating and diet.
The Department of Health in England (DH 2001) defined learning disability as: a significantly
reduced capability in understanding new or information of greater complexity, to learn new skills as
well as a reduced ability to get by independently. The beginning of a learning disability is believed to
be cause by event taken place before adulthood, having a lasting effect on the person s development.
People with learning disabilities are 2.5 times more likely to have health problems than other people
without a learning disability (Disability Rights Commission 2006). Despite the knowledge of this,
recent reports have highlighted that there is evidence that people with learning disabilities have higher
levels of unmet health needs and also receive less or no effective treatment, even though the

The Prayer Of A Good Shepherd
We are celebrating today the fived Sunday of Ester. During these past weeks we have celebrated the
victory of Christ over death, hear about his mercy, about his love, about this care and protection as a
good shepherd. Many readings during this time have come to us, to our help; today we received the
main commandment love. In the prelude, we were able to hear the fruits of preaching of the apostles.
In the second that we just heart we have an image of the New Jerusalem, the promise to those who

Full Metal Jacket Film Analysis
Film Analysis Within every man resides good and evil; which quality manifests itself is determined by
how one is raised and views the world. Stanley Kubrick s film Full Metal Jacket takes the concept of
good or evil in man and shows how war, the marines, and government blur soldiers ideas of right or
wrong. By injection of propaganda from these sources a misidentity is created within the solider. Once
this misidentity has taken place it is the soldiers job to figure out what he is: a killing machine as he
has been trained, or a bringer of peace to a war torn nation. A soldiers identity is stripped of him the
second he enters boot camp. It first begins with the shaving of the head which likens boot camp to

This explains how even though joker is inherently good, and continues to be, there are times when you
must act to better yourself. Joker, however, redeems himself in the climax of the movie with the sniper
scene. Even when the sniper has killed three of his fellow soldiers Joker does not have the ability to
take her life. To the other men she is just another VC fighter trying to kill them. Joker, however, sees
her for who she is: a young women of about eighteen and just as human as he and the rest of his
squad. A clear signal of this is when the sniper gets shot once and all the marines are gathered around
her. While the sniper is lying on the ground praying as she is dying, Joker asks the question, What do
we do about her? The only response he receives is, Fuck her, let her rot. Here is where we see a clear
distinction of what Joker has become compared to the rest of the soldiers. Though he is still accepted
by all of his fellow soldiers he is reassured that he is different from the rest. Evil, which is represented
by the other soldiers, is in constant struggle with some of the men s conscience while it has taken full
control of others. In the scene where Joker and Rafterman are riding in a helicopter to the jungle, they
ride with a gunner who is disconnected from reality. While flying, the gunner is shooting random
peasant farmers with no remorse. His first words to Joker and Rafterman are, Anyone who runs is a

Different Approaches to Screen Violence Essays
Different Approaches to Screen Violence
Violence is a strong issue in society. In a world that is surrounded by terrorism, aggression and crime,
the way violence is represented in the media can be crucial. Most viewers define violence as an act
that breaks out of a personal comfort zone and therefore opinions of how violent a scene is can differ.
Arguments for the link between violence in the media and real life focus on the perpetrator of violence
being unable to acknowledge the difference between reality and the fiction portrayed in film. These
opinions however, are frequently the results of a public who use violent films as a scapegoat for
physical aspects that shape people s lives. Social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This hits the audience with a sense of reality and makes the emphasis with the character. There is a
soundtrack that plays when a jump cut takes place to the two main characters walking down a street.
This music plays a contrast between the normal lifestyle, and when they are at fight club.
In Drunken Master, sound is important in establishing the scene. The synchronous diagetic sounds of
punching and kicking are overly exaggerated. This emphasises the violence but at the same time
makes the scene become less severe and somewhat comical. There is no music at the start of the
scene; this creates realism and a tense atmosphere. After a pause in the action, the first piece of
dialogue is spoken. Jackie Chan is taunted and challenged. As Jackie accepts his opponents proposal
an incidental piece of music begins to play. It is a fast heroic piece, with obvious oriental influences.
This gets the audience involved in the scene and makes them feel empathy for Jackie. Sound plays an
important part in both scenes, and helps to add to and take away from the way violence is portrayed.
There are many similarities that give off different effects in each scene.
Fight Club uses a montage of fast cuts, which increases the pace and makes the scene look visually
impressive. There is no slow motion editing

Protect the Peace in Somalia Essay
Protect the Peace in Somalia
Popular culture s depiction of pirates and piracy is romanticized and sanitized through favorable
portrayals of characters like Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean; however the real piracy that has
been occurring in Somalia is very different from what is shown in the movies. This has been going on
for many years and no organization has been able to put a stop to this. Pirates board ships and hold the
captain and crew hostage until the ship owners pay ransom, and if they refuse the pirates do not resist
killing the hostages. Pirates have also been known to steal resources such as oil, but this is not as
common. The U.S. needs to take action in combating Somalian piracy by targeting networks through

The best solution to the Somali Piracy problem is targeting networks which involves keeping the
pirates under constant watch and control. Targeting networks is a system where the government tracks
the pirates in Somalia and tracks everything they do to make sure they don t go back onto the waters.
This is similar to the way that the United States combats organized crime. Authorities would monitor
bank accounts, engage in direct and electronic surveillance, and aggressively pursue frequent
offenders (Thomas). If the pirates were under constant surveillance, they would be less likely to go out
onto the waters because they would be aware that they are being watched. We are focused on
identifying and apprehending the criminal conspirators who lead, manage, and finance the pirate
enterprise, with the objective of bringing them to trials. (Francesco) By targeting networks, the U.S. is
focused on bringing pirates to justice and stopping them from going on to the waters and stealing
money and resources.
Many countries and groups are involved in helping end the worldwide problem of piracy in Somali.
The U.S. government, the Somali pirates, NATO and the UN are four of the many groups that are
involved with the issue of Somali Piracy. NATO s goal is to provide peaceful resolution to disputes.
Not contesting Somalia piracy issues would be in direct conflict with their goals (Dryad). NATO is

In Chinese history they are known as the Five Overlords in the Spring and Autumn Period . In the latter part of the Spring and Autumn period, two states, Wu and Yue became even more powerful and contended for overall hegemony. Finally Yue was defeated, and submitted to Wu. However, Gou Jian, the king of Yue, continuously galled by his defeat decided to seek revenge. Simultaneously, he trained his army, and developed agriculture. Eventually, Yue State became strong enough and defeated Wu. According to recorded history, during the Spring and Autumn Period, there were over 480 wars, 52 vassal states were vanquished, and 36 kings were killed. During the Spring and Autumn Period the imperial house, with priestly, ritualistic, and diplomatic functions but with diminishing authority, slowly sank out of sight as the local nobles struggled with one another for power. Survival required coalitions, both political and economic, as well as the accumulation of productive wealth. To this end, many drainage operations, canals, dikes, reservoirs, roads, and the like were undertaken, often on an interstate or multistate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Deductive Approach Paper The inductive approach to research refers to a strategy where the researcher starts the study gathering all the data relevant to the topic being studied. When they have collected all the necessary information, the researcher conducts an in depth review of the data with the aim of developing a deep understanding of the concept being studied. The researcher explores the data making observations on crucial points and establishing all the significant patterns crucial to determining the outcomes. Then, the researcher develops a theory that helps him to explain the reasons for the development of the observed patterns. Therefore, the technique involves the shift from the specifics to a general observation that can be applied in the overall case. After the analysis of the data, the researcher explores the existing theories on the topic and positions the newly developed theory within the existing body of knowledge (Creswell, 2003). The deductive approach is the opposite of the procedure followed in inductive research. The study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My Defining Moment Essay I jumped out of bed, it was time I thought the time I had been waiting for so long, I ran over and to my nightstand and grabbed the socks and jumped all the stairs, I felt like I could fly, until I hit the ground and rolled. My dad said from the car outside, and right as I left I could hear my brothers yelling at me, go back to bed! , no I yelled from the door and ran outside still feeling pleased with myself, and my dad drove off. Once we arrived at the skate shop, I was amazed at all the different skateboards and scooters, but my thinking was interrupted by my dad, ready to get yours he said, I shook my head speechless in excitement. Once we got started, I was in a trance watching them make and put together skate boards, once I picked out mine, they told us to wait half an hour, so we decided to go to an ice cream shop nearby, once I got my cotton candy flavored ice cream me and my dad sat on a bench outside the shop. • 5. Economic History of Countries 1. Are there any hidden assumptions or price rigidities in the country or countries that might inhibit market force indicators from revealing the true economic health of the country, thereby either preventing government policy actions from correcting the problems or otherwise making them ineffective and counterproductive? This is absolutely the case. Prior economic histories of countries around the world have proven that there are general results that can be expected from a given action or series of actions, but this does not always hold true. The current state of affairs in the United States is a glistening example of that. The groundwork and root statistics of the United States economy circa February 2013 are pretty good, but jobless rates are still too high and GDP growth is anemic to nothing. There are two commonly attributable reasons for that. The first is that businesses are being very conservative with their funds. They re not investing and spending the way they usually would because of the uneven and unpredictable conditions that are seen with the federal government, the level of spending in general and the wider market. The second primary reason that the economy is seemingly stuck in low gear is because consumer spending is way down, just as home values are way down, and this has led to a much higher savings rates rather than consumers making purchases discretionary and high ticket items in general. What this leads to is that even if the government of the United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although students have their own methods of studying and taking notes, it has been proven that cursive writing is more beneficial to students rather than taking notes. Most educational programs do not require students to learn cursive writing while some do. It has been proven to be more effective to those who take notes rather than those who type their notes. In the article Cursive Is a Powerful Brain tool the author gives a variety of examples as to why cursive writing is a beneficial writing technique to students. Well, a labor strike is when a worker or a group of workers protest by refusing to work. But, what are they protesting? Most of the time they are protesting because of their work conditions. These include, horrible security, not being paid enough, or they re being disrespected. I probably wouldn t go on strike. If I did, I wouldn t do crazy things such as, breaking things or fighting people. In 2013, there was a school bus strike in NYC. During the strike, bus drivers refused to show up and pick up the kids for school. This affected students and parents. Kids couldn t get to school because they didn t have rides. I grew up in a big city where no one had a car. We either walked, took trams, or subways. At age 16, I got my first job two blocks from my house writing magazine articles. Although these autonomous cars can drive themselves, the occupant still has the responsibility to press the emergency break when necessary. Chris Rodriquez, the occupant of the car in this instance, had just gotten his masters from UCLA and was about to pitch his first business deal at his dad s law firm. Living under his dad s expectations, he knew there was no way to ease the man without having a couple of drinks beforehand. • 9. Root Cellar Theodore Roethke Analysis Theodore Roethke s poem Root Cellar has one stanza, and eleven lines total. Upon first reading the title, I admit that it doesn t strike me as very original. This poem can very well be a description of the author s cellar; a snapshot of an event being held in said cellar. The author begins with telling us that nothing would sleep in [the] cellar . At first I pondered why the author would put that part in at the very beginning, but as I read on I found that the beginning was the correct placement; it pulled the reader (me) in, and had me asking, Why wouldn t anything sleep down there? Was it hot? Musty? Dark? The author describes the cellar as dark, and uses similes, dank as a ditch and, roots ripe as old bait to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They then go on to describe the rotting roots, the decomposing leaves, the lime, etc. to further the feeling of disgust when one thinks of such a place. The last two lines threw me for a loop however. Nothing would give up life: Even the dirt kept breathing a small breath. Suddenly, my thoughts of disgust transformed to more positive ones. Instead of thinking, Why would anyone allow something to become so disgusting? , I think about how the leaves and the roots refused to go away. The shoots continued to hang, low and in the way; the leaves and roots continued to make their presence known by giving off the strong smell of decomposing matter. After reading the poem, I m still not 100% sure on what the theme is. There was a shift from negative to positive in the last three lines, and lots of imagery. Even then the poem still comes across as abstract and slightly vague. The author could be describing their life; maybe the run down cellar and decaying roots are representations of an unhappy or dysfunctional childhood. Maybe, in writing this, they are accepting that those memories will never go away, but they don t define who they are. Or maybe the author is describing a time when they went to get something from their cellar, and realized how disgusting it was. As always, it s whatever the reader wants it to ... Whether it s future Tommies , students attending another university, or anyone that believes in creating a brighter and more efficient world, we are all in it for the common good. • 12. Feminist Criticism of Frankenstein and The Yellow Wallpaper Feminism in literature has existed as early as the 16th century, the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities (Shneir, Miram). Throughout history, women have portrayed the idea of feminism in literature, with one of the most famous feminist writers being Mary Shelley. Shelley was born in 1797 into a notable family, with her mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, being a renowned feminist writer herself (Biogram). Her novel Frankenstein was published in 1818, a time when most women were extremely conservative, and were deprived of the rights and opportunities that men held. In the novel, Shelley portrays feminism by essentially mocking women and giving them a lack of power showing how women should not be. One way Shelley mocks women in Frankenstein is the societal role she gives her female characters. This is first seen in the beginning of the novel, when young Elizabeth is presented to Victor Frankenstein in the form of a pretty present (Shelley 7), portraying Elizabeth as being in a sense a gift to Victor, causing her to be seen as inferior to him. Elizabeth s physical appearance is also frequently referred to: her golden hair, blue eyes, and thin body; but rarely are her non superficial attributes, assuming that those hold little value. The focus on only the physicality of women is also portrayed in The Birthmark by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The short story discusses a husband, Alymer s, wishes to have his wife s facial birthmark removed, due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. A Modern State And Public Water Systems A modern state is a set of organisations and institutions related to the function of the government; its role is to provide order, policy, revenue, internal and external representation, and services.1 When the state fails to govern the commons, that is, the land or resources affecting the whole community, private companies take over. Within the past several decades privatization of the freshwater sources and public water systems is widespread worldwide. Yet, private companies provide water guided by the principle of the financial gain and not based on the equal distribution paradigm, and such approach makes poverty stricken suffer the most, while the wealthy remain intact. In California, the region of the world having the seventh largest world s economy,2 billionaires hoard water in the water banks that have been quietly gifted to them by the government. 3 These water bank systems allow to accumulate water in the underground reservoirs for water bank holders needs or for purpose of leasing.4 One such system, Kern Water Bank, a thirty square miles of marshland filled with flocks of birds,5, is used to water pomegranate trees, a key ingredient in production of the fruit drink by POM Wonderful, a company owned by the billionaires Stewart and Lynda Resnick.6 Ironically, Kern Water Bank Authority, technically a public agency, is subsidized by the Paramount Farming Company, a company with world s largest pistachio and almond production, which is also owned by the Resnicks. ... It is apartheid that Hally hides behind as he uses Sam and Willie as his scapegoat. Hally is filled with so much rage over his father, he is torn between love and hate. When the conflict supernovas, Hally lashes out on his two black friends. He tries to pretend they are not friends by acting strictly like a boss. Carrying on with this little man routine, Hally asks Sam to call him Master Harold. Sam would only do this if they were no longer friends; Hally would be no different from his father. This is the case for, when he spits in Sam s face, Hally becomes Master Harold. Apartheid is victorious in the corruption of another white male as Hally takes his place on the bench of segregation.
