How To Write A Narrative Essay About My Identity
As an Iranian American, my identity comes with plenty of downsides. The severity of these ranges
from being called a terrorist to having a body covered in hair. However the best perk of my identity is
that my family is obsessed with food. All of my extended family members have cooked an amazing
dish at some point during their teenage years. It s like a rite of passage that determines whether your
parents view and treat you like an adult. Leading up to my junior year, I had been unable to
accomplish this. Whenever I had free time, I would turn on The Food Network with the hope that I
would find an astonishing recipe that would blow my mind. Nothing. As months went by, my
confidence began to diminish. I was about to lost all hope when I stumbled upon the recipe in an
unexpected environment. Left. LEFT! Paddle faster, I shouted, trying to instruct our raft team to avoid
rocks as we soared down the white rapids. We were flying down waterfalls, avoiding other rafts, and
trying to reach our destination, where we would feast on cold cuts. Our raft was rocketing around a
turnabout when it suddenly crashed and lodged itself between two massive boulders. We were stuck.

Stimulus And Brand Selection
This study is an attempt to fill the gaps identified in the available literature on the association of
stimulus and brand selection. The present study measured the stimulus and its impact on brand
selection or purchase decision in the Indian online retail. To assess this relationship, different models
have been designed to investigate and measure the stimulus. For investigation purposes, a qualitative
model has been developed and presented in Chapters earlier. This model prioritized the various factors
of stimulus in context of the online retail. Next to this, the measurement aspect of stimulus was
addressed by the development of a quantitative model shown in Chapters earlier. This model has been
used to develop and validate the scale for the measurement of stimulus in the Indian online retail. The
present study comprises of the following: A broad and thorough literature review has been conducted
on the association of stimulus and brand purchase decision. The literature review consists of the
evolution and definitions of individual, technology and societal groups and brand purchase decision, a
classification of available literature, and various factors which constitute Stimulus in S O R model.
Based on this basis of this review, gaps, and a research agenda was identified which provided a sound
base to conduct the present study. A literature review of the methodologies used in this field of study
was also conducted. These methodologies were Analytical Hierarchy Process

Negotiation Theory Essay
NEGOTIATION Negotiation theory Last updated 9 months ago The foundations of negotiation theory
are decision analysis, behavioral decision making, game theory, and negotiation analysis. Another
classification of theories distinguishes between Structural Analysis, Strategic Analysis, Process
Analysis, Integrative Analysis and behavioral analysis of negotiations. Individuals should make
separate, interactive decisions; and negotiation analysis considers how groups of reasonably bright
individuals should and could make joint, collaborative decisions. These theories are interleaved and
should be approached from the synthetic perspective. Common Assumptions Of Most Theories

Therefore the parties have contradicting incentives to cooperate or defect. If one party cooperates or
makes a concession and the other does not, the defecting party might relatively gain more. Trust may
be built only in repetitive games through the emergence of reliable patterns of behaviour such as tit for
tat. This table illustrates the options and possible outcomes of the Negotiator s Dilemma. Process
Analysis Process analysis is the theory closest to haggling. Parties start from two points and converge
through a series of concessions. As in strategic analysis, both sides have a veto (e.g. sell, not sell; pay,
not pay). Process analysis also features structural assumptions, because one side may be weaker or
stronger (e.g. more eager to sell, not willing to pay a certain price). Process Analysis focuses on the
study of the dynamics of processes. E.g. both Zeuthen and Cross tried to find a formula in order to
predict the behaviour of the other party in finding a rate of concession, in order to predict the likely
outcome. The process of negotiation therefore is considered to unfold between fixed points: starting
point of discord, end point of convergence. The so called security point, that is the result of optional
withdrawal, is also taken into account. Integrative Analysis Integrative analysis divides the process
into successive stages, rather than talking about

Examples Of Bravery In The Odyssey
Homer s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, is a classic literature piece written originally in
ancient Greece. The book is an epic poem about the hero Odysseus perils and his journey back home
after being held away for twenty years. While this is taking place, his son, Telamakhos tries to find his
father and gain his place in adulthood. To fully find self respect, Telamakhos must overcome the
suitors that have taken over his father s house. Both men commit acts of heroism and bravery
throughout the poem. Many characters throughout the story show bravery in our modern way, but
Odysseus is the hero of this old story. So these examples of bravery in the Odyssey come from him.
Odysseus shows his bravery in a flashback to the time he was on his way home from the ten year war
in Troy. In book X, lines 299 301, he tells one of his men Euralokhos: ...rest here then; take food and
wine; stay in the black hull s shelter. Let me go, as I see nothing for it but to go. (Homer 273)
Euralokhos has just told him that a group of his men have been turned to swine by the powerful
goddess, Kirki. Odysseus goes into her home to get his men back even though he, too, could be turned
into a swine as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Self-Moralism And Social Criticism In Jane Addams
Jane Addams wanted the mind of women to be valued and mirrored through the actions of individuals
seeking to use emotions of empathy and feeling of duty rather than self interest. She joined the
growing pool of criticism of Social Darwinism not because of its scientific weaknesses, but rather due
to its center principal of anti morality. She refused to accept its masculine ideals of physical
dominance to serve self interest and its ranking of materialism. Without doubt, one of her most
stringent and remembered points of social criticism was targeted at paternalism. She routinely exposed
the motives behind 19th century philanthropists who attempted to do good to people rather than to do
good with them . Once again, her target of criticism is the male centered way of thinking that was
pertinent in her time, due to the fact that it was overwhelmingly focused on placing oneself ahead of
another person and attempting to force yourself onto them because you feel that your way of handling
the situation is better than those who are experiencing the hardship you are attempting to amend in the
first place. She wanted less of a paternal mindset and more of a maternal one that is categorized by
empathetic collaboration instead of domination. Addams viewed new groups of immigrants as a
welcomed force into urban American society. Her ideology on race, which can be described as
pluralist, was fitting toward a strategy of reform that took aim at socioeconomic conditions that were

The Tipping Point Analysis
Most celebrities just stick to shining in the spotlight and being a star, but a few use their fame and
platform to start a business and get a better name for themselves. In the book, The Tipping Point by
Malcolm Gladwell, the author introduces a new concept, The Laws of Epidemics, which includes The
Law of the Few, Stickiness Factor and Power of Context. A celebrity is always seen a connector,
people who have incredibly widespread social networks that play an integral role in the spread of
ideas and a salesperson, a person that specializes in the act of persuasion (Gladwell). The stickiness
factor plays a role in this particular trend because it shows how and why celebrities around the world
are all starting a new profession. Power of contexts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Difference between formal and informal imperialism
Throughout the history of the world, different kingdoms have been competing to expand their
territories. In most cases, the expansion of theses territories has been at the expense of weaker
territories that are incapable of fighting back effectively owing to different barriers . For example, the
Mongols expanded their territory in less than a hundred years to over 6,000 miles using lightning fast
archers who rode on horsebacks . An irrefutable fact about empires is the fact that they never hold
together for long as they fall apart. However, as time has been passing, changes have been exhibited in
the empires that are being formed. As such, historians normally divide imperialism into two types ,
formal, as well as informal imperialism. Consequently, this article explains the differences that exist
between formal imperialism and informal imperialism by use of examples.
To begin with, the literal meanings of the two types of imperialism act as a difference between them.
For instance, informal imperialism may be taken to signify an authority without any trace of formality,
also without any fixed rules set to control. As a matter of fact, it may be defined to be an authority
without the usual forms that symbolize authority . Clearly, this is the opposite of all the values that
formal imperialism encompasses. Formal imperialism creates a

Traditional Vs. Online Education
Compare and Contrast Traditional vs. Online As this world s technology is progressing so is the way
we teach and learn. Ever since school started hundreds of years ago it s always been a teacher in a live
classroom with many students. Everything is shifting, however; and now we have transitioned into
online classes as well. I have had both, and I can tell you there are many comparisons and contrasts
between the two. 77% of educators believe that online learning is just as good as traditional learning,
if not better, nearly 70% of all students claim online instruction to be as good as or better than a
traditional classroom setting, and 26% of online students claim to learn better online than in a
classroom. So clearly people aren t too against this new form of learning. Online enrollment rates are
expanding at much faster rates than traditional classroom enrollment growth; specifically, in higher
education, online enrollments have grown 21%, whereas growth for traditional classroom instruction
registers only 2% since 2002. Traditional and Online classes have a lot of similarities and differences
especially in areas like flexibility, comprehension of the course material, and discipline. Traditional is
what I had my entire life up until I entered high school. It is what I prefer out of both choices. I learn
from one on one interaction, and that is something that online doesn t have. In traditional there is not
very much flexibility because of several reasons. Classes are

Born in Cederville, Illinois, on September 6, 1860, Jane Addams founded the world famous social

Many reformers at this time such as Jacob Riis focused on the poor and immigrants moral
improvements and ignored the crippling impact of low wages and dangerous working conditions.
Organizations expelled immigrants from drinking and other forbidden behaviors such as prostitution
and gambling. What these reformers didn t understand was that the conditions that immigrants faced,
led them to act these ways. Jane Addams realized this. Addams developed a new weapon against
poverty: the settlement houses.
Addams toured in Europe in 1883 and was impressed by Toynbee Hall, which was a charity workers
residence situated deep in a London slum. When Addams returned to Chicago in 1889, they purchased
and refurnished Charles J. Hull s mansion and opened the Hull House, in a settlement approach.
In 1892, Addams delivered a speech in a lecture to the Ethnic Cultural Societies about the settlement
housing. These societies probably had political connections to human rights issues. The speech is
called The Subjective Necessity for Social Settlements, and its main points were to give the
immigrants and underprivileged the same opportunities as the rest of the population. Addams states,

Analysis Of The Book Two And Three Things I Know For Sure
In the book Two or Three things i know for sure , Dorothy Allison who tells her story growing up in a
memoir and she uses her experiences to explain the two or The things she learned. What makes this
her story stand out is not just that it s a memoir but also because the main point is beauty and how
women in her family were put down and abused because of their appearance. Throughout this whole
book Dorothy tries to send out one important message on beauty which from my understanding beauty
is not based on what men say or society says, we live in a world where a woman s beauty is
determined whether a man find hers beautiful and that must stop. Timothy Dow Adams who read s
Two or Three things i know for sure writes his review on it, and his understanding of Dorothy Allison

It is an uphill battle obtaining a job with a criminal record. A study of prisoners by the Urban Institute
indicated that eight months after imprisonment, only 65% of those released had found employment at
any point, and only 45% were currently employed at the time of the study. These numbers indicate
that many of those who leave the prison system are unable to break the cycle of illegal behavior, likely
out of necessity. In one scene, Cutty, a reformed drug dealer recently released from prison, pleads to
keep his job to his boss, whom recently learned of his criminal past. Despite his punctuality and great
work ethic, Cutty loses his job. With hesitation, he rejoins his old gang and returns to his criminal
lifestyle. To explain the role of politics in urban inequality, a brief history is in order. As jobs left
urban areas as stated above, the Reagan administration reduced the amount of federal aid to city
governments. Not the best timing. With unemployment rising, the drug epidemic and homelessness
was rising. As discussed earlier, the politics of school funding is flawed and is not built to actually
educate but to get by . Politicians have long talked to little effect about regenerating the inner city, and
increasing opportunity, social mobility, and diversity. Little

Why Minions Sell
A man, his two kids and a lady are standing over a counter making their orders for minions to a group
of three staff behind a counter, a lady is approaching and a gentleman is walking away from the
counter with a plate of minion. The environment around the minion store is neat with pictures of
different tastes of minions and their preferred drinks mounted on the upper part of the counter. The
customers are anxiously waiting with the two kids and the lady directly staring at the staff. The minion
commercial does not compare itself with other adverts in the market but instead focuses on winning
the market for minions by enlightening the customers on the supplementary drinks that best
accompany minion and displaying the environment surrounding its consumption. The commercial
generally tries to portray minion s dominance in the platform of snacks by using different groups who
have embraced its consumption in the society and its influences in the consumption of different
complementary drinks.
The aim of advertising commercials is to win the interest of different groups in the society. Art
Markman who has a PhD and is a professor of Psychology and Marketing at the University of Texas

One Crime Policy Essay
The one crime policy that is important for the criminal justice system today is substance abuse in
America. This problem has plagued the criminal justice system in America for a long period and it has
continued to be a thorn in the side of all parts of the criminal justice system. To fix this their need is a
need for substance abuse treatment, which helps in the transition from the criminal justice system. The
main reason this policy is important for the criminal justice system is to stop the problem from the
source with regard to families and drug patterns that go from generation to generation.
First, the strict policy on substance abuse dates back to the formal declaration of the war on drugs by
the president of the united states Richard Nixon. In 1971 Nixon s formal declaration of war on drugs
deliberately linked urban crime control to the suburban marijuana subculture by portraying narcotics
pushers and heroin addiction as universal threats (Lassiter, M. D). Nixon and his administrators were

W. H. Auden Physically Bound
Physically Bound Critique of Musee Des Beaux Arts Central Theme W.H. Auden has one of the
biggest names in poetry for the twentieth century. He wrote countless of poems, each being relatable
and readable. One of his shining examples of his work is summed up into one brilliant writing, Musee
Des Beaux Arts. This poem covers all grounds in the most simple way you could understand, yet also
in the most complex. There is no area he lacks in and always impresses with the diversity that one
writing of his can cover. Not only does he emotionally tie you into the poem, but he also gives
spiritual insight and expresses political views. The background of this story happens to be the bitter
subject of war, which seems to be contradicting. Yet, he somehow is able to perceive war through his
art efficiently. The inspiration of this poem comes from not only war, but mainly from a painting that
shows the downfall of Icarus. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, I think that even more proves his point. That humans are just so instinctive without really thinking
things through that we miss more than we could ever imagine. The decision to literally not be aware of
our surroundings is more harmful than we would like to admit. Another yet poor choice is shown in
lines 18 20, the expensive ship... had somewhere to go. Proving that even if the ship was aware or not
of Icarus s fall it did not care enough to stop. The ship was either shamefully oblivious to what was
happening right next to it or it cruelly made the decision to not care regardless. The painful light of
human s actions is executed simply through Auden s interpretation of the painting in the museum. It is
clear that Auden believes we are too passive and poor with the power we hold. With fair judgement, I
agree the painting along with the poem makes sense that most would like to keep quiet about. Yet
another one of our many flaws, change can be good as long as we want it to

Abstract
The purpose of this project was to develop a training program for Wellbridge Clubs that focused on
teaching sales staff to sell personal training (PT) packages to members, in order to increase Wellbridge
sales. The training agenda was designed based on Silberman s (2006) Active Training, in order to
engage the participants in their learning process. The use of immediate learning exercises is intended
to draw the participants into the process of guided note taking during the brain friendly lectures.

To ensure that the training is truly taught for its intended purpose requires conducting training needs
analysis. BusinessDictionary.com defines a training needs analysis as an assessment of the training
requirements of a target group in terms of (1) number of trainees, (2) their educational and
professional background, (3) their present level of competence, and (4) the desired behavior or skill
level acquired at the completion of training (Training needs analysis, 2014).
Wellbridge Analysis Given that our training had to be developed within eight weeks, our team referred
to Silberman s (2006) Advantages and Disadvantages of Nine Basic Needs Assessment Techniques in
order to quickly gather information (pp. 32 34). Due to our time and cost restraints, we had to exclude
several of the nine basic needs such as observation, questionnaires, and group discussion (Silberman,
2006). We conducted interviews and key consultations via teleconferences with the Wellbridge
corporate office staff located in Denver, which included Steve Datte, Kelly Bartlett, and Amy
Thompson. Additionally, we gathered data during lectures with Jerry Rose, our instructor, from
October 21 through December 9, 2014, at Webster University. Mr. Rose is also a personal trainer for

I completed my service learning at The Arbors of Bedford, a nursing home for older adults suffering
with memory loss due to dementia. Their mission is to care for the whole person in a manner that
promotes freedom, choice and the opportunity to live a meaningful life (n.a., 2017). The Arbors of
Bedford promotes a therapeutic environment by creating an open and welcome environment and by
giving the residents as much choice in their lives as possible. For example, they can choose whether to
sit by the window in a seat by themselves, or in a living room chair with a group of people. There is
usually a television or music playing in one section, while another section is quiet which allows the
residents to choose the setting that is best for them. They host a variety of activities that focus on
different therapy areas. The activities offered include listening to spiritual hymns, tai chi, craft
designs, piano performances, and invention trivia. These components together, along with a caring and
competent staff, allow The Arbors of Bedford to fulfill their mission statement. In order to develop a
therapeutic relationship with the residents I use active listening skills to communicate effectively with
them and I practice empathy to make them feel understood. There is one resident at my site who is

they faced difficult situations. True courage has been demonstrated many times throughout history.

God. In those years they learned about the Auca tribe. The Aucas were a very dangerous tribe who ...

In what ways does Fiona Hall challenge traditional art making practices? Contemporary Australian
artist Fiona Hall uses biological features in her artwork to make political and social statements on
contemporary issues and the history behind them. Hall also works with non traditional materials, such
as soft drink cans, candles, pipes, sardine tins, beads, soap and Tupperware. She recontectualises these
everyday objects, inviting us to look beyond the materials to explore deeper meanings and think about
why she used the selected materials. Contemporary artist Fiona Hall challenge traditional perceptions

The Current Financial Crisis Essay
Frederic Mishkin makes the point in the text, The Economics of Money Banking, and Financial
Markets (2010) that Banks and other financial institutions are what make financial markets work.
Without them, financial markets would not be able to move funds from people who save to people
who have productive investment opportunities. (p.7). The movement of funds between savers and
those with productive investment opportunities is the means of creating growth. When people lose
confidence in the economy this activity freezes or weakens, consequently, asset prices decline,
unemployment rises and companies default as was the case of Lehman Brothers in 2008. The freezing
of the flow of money is a financial crisis. Today, the global flow of ... Show more content on

Europe and China are major economies that impact the world.
Europe s challenges with the Euro are complicated. The United States congress had trouble agreeing
to enact legislature to raise its debt ceiling in order to meet its obligations and maintain its credit
ratings. In Europe, separate countries need to agree to come together with a combined political will to
stabilize countries and banks in financial trouble. Without the power to print money individually, each
country under the single currency must come together under combined policies. Today, Europe seems
willing to reach combined policy decisions to avoid an economic disaster. Ultimately, if this happens,
the Euro will have a stronger future just as the United States gained a stronger political and financial
system from policies created as a result of the Great Depression. If Europe fails to come to agreement
on combined policies to solve the European Debt Crisis the world will realize the financial risks.
Direct exposure is already being seen in the financial institutions. MF Global recently filed for
bankruptcy. Exposure to European bonds brought down a $41B firm just 3 weeks after a European
bank failure. Repo to maturity contacts. Falling bond values created the need for more collateral in
this type of financial instrument. Firms with similar investments could see greater risk if interest rates
rise and bond values fall.

Online Degree Programs versus Residential Degree Programs...
Assignment Our assignment was to research benefits for online degree programs and benefits for
residential degree programs. We are then supposed to tell our stance on the issue.
I There are many reasons for online degree programs. My class came up with numerous good, solid
reasons in favor of getting a degree online. They are as follows:
Less costly
No commuting
Ability to work classes around schedule
More focused use of time
Specialized degree programs (with no general education requirements)
Credits transfer
Flexibility in completing assignments
Don t have to sit in a classroom
Faster completion possible
No campus drama
Same quality education as face to face
More career options
Interactive and engaging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For flexibility, we realized that the student would have flexible classes. They would be able to work
whenever they needed to wherever they needed to. For example, if an online student had a job, family,
or both, they would be able to pursue their degree while also taking care of their family or working.
They would be able to complete their classes wherever there was an Internet connection. My last
category was student experiences, and numerous reasons fit under this heading. To begin, there are
actually more interactions with students when they take an online class because they need to interact
with the teacher and other students more. Online classes also teach students discipline and time
management skills since the work load is done on their own time. There are numerous reasons for
online classes; my class came up with copious reasons and then I categorized the reasons into four key
components: money, opportunities, flexibility, and student experiences.
II My class listed many online sources where they found helpful information regarding the benefits of
residential colleges. Combining some of my class s resources and some I found on my own, I came up
with one major benefit of residential colleges: most of the learning in college happens outside the
classroom and residential colleges allow that type of learning to flourish. One way that students learn
outside the classroom is by doing group projects. While online students can do group work, they do
not have

How Adversity Changed My Life
Throughout life, we all become acquainted with life altering experiences, some changing us for the
better, others for the worse. It is our job, as individuals, to either learn and develop in the face of these
experiences or to dismiss them without looking back. They are what shape our very character, our
foundation for the future. Without them, we d be empty shells, individuals without any substance to
guide them. Even though I am still quite young, I ve already had quite my fair share of these
experiences, and for that I am extremely thankful. Academics, community service and adversity; all
have contributed to my development in one shape or another. Without these experiences, I would not
be the self that I know myself to be. Nothing is of greater importance.
I feel as if adversity has played the greatest role in shaping my character and personality. May it be
financial instability, parental problems, or even just plain stress, they have all taught me valuable
lessons that I will cherish for years to come. My family has always had trouble, both with financial
stability and familial stability. We ve never been able to do all of the things that normal families get to
do. For example, I don t remember the last time my family went on a genuine vacation, let alone a
vacation will all of us together. This also plays a role in our familial instability. We are by no means a
close knit family: we fight every day, we never spend quality time together, and we are always holed

In contrived observation, the respondents behaviour is observed in an artificial environment, for
example, a food tasting session.
Personal
In personal observation, a researcher observes actual behaviour as it occurs. The observer may or may
not normally attempt to control or manipulate the phenomenon being observed. The observer merely
records what takes place.
Mechanical
Mechanical devices (video, closed circuit television) record what is being observed. These devices
may or may not require the respondent s direct participation. They are used for continuously recording
on going behaviour.
Non participant
The observer does not normally question or communicate with the people being observed. He or she
does not participate.
Participant
In participant observation, the researcher becomes, or is, part of the group that is being investigated.
Participant observation has its roots in ethnographic studies (study of man and races) where
researchers would live in tribal villages, attempting to understand the customs and practices of that
culture. It has a very extensive literature, particularly in sociology (development, nature and laws of
human society) and anthropology (physiological and psychological study of man). Organizations can
be viewed as tribes with their own customs and practices.

1)Helps capture the behavior of customers directly.
Disadvantages;
1)Time consuming and costly exercise.
2) Personal biasness of investigators will distort the findings.

Why Is John Brown Wrong
John Brown: Right or Wrong about Abolition
While John Brown had the right idea about abolishing slavery, he killed people because of it.
However, he believed that it was his God given mission to free the slaves, and so he employed the
help of his sons and other people sympathetic to his cause. Even though he might have had good
intentions and ideas, he went about abolishing slavery the wrong way.
John Brown was a radical abolitionist who believed in the violent overthrow of the slavery system.
(History.com Staff) He was born in Torrington, Connecticut, on May 9, 1800, to Ruth Mills and Owen

Brown appointed himself captain of the antislavery forces at the Osawatomie Creek. When proslavery
forces attacked the free state town of Lawrence, guerilla (a member of a small independent group
taking part in irregular fighting [www.dictionary.com]) warfare broke out. The warfare caused more
than a hundred men and boys to die. However, that is not the worst part; the people killed were killed
in cold blood. They did not fight back; in fact most of them were not even armed. The success of the
proslavery guerilla fired up Brown s resolution, as well as four of his sons and two other allies, to
murder five reputably proslavery settlers. (History.com Staff)
However, all of his acts led up to his largest and final act. That final act was John Brown s Raid on
Harper s Ferry. His plan was to capture arms to supply the slaves and create a mass insurgence. It took
several months of getting ready and gathering supplies. To start off, he was a fugitive from the law, so
he grew a beard to disguise himself. (Kent, p.10) He spent weeks getting money from his societies,

Performance On Immediate Retention Tests
Roediger Karpicke (2005) predict that performance on immediate retention tests would rise with the
number of study opportunities, due to massed practice usually only producing short term results. They
also believe that taking a retention directly after a study session would result in superior retention on
delayed tests compared to repeatedly studying the material. This would result in proving that test
taking as a better means to improve long term retention compared to re presentation of material during
testing.
Methods
In order to obtain this information on retention two experiments were conducted using psychological
testing to collect data (Weiten, 2014). The first was a experimental 2 x 3 factorial design, using one
hundred twenty undergraduate students from Washington University, ages 18 to 24 (Roddiger
Karpicke, 2005). The independent variables that were manipulated were the different learning
conditions and time between studying and test taking, as well as when the subjects would take the
final retention test which occurred either 5 minutes, 2 days, or 1 week after the end of the 1st phase of
the experiment (Roddiger Karpicke, 2005). The dependent variable were how much information could
the subjects reten and their performance on the final retention test given in phase 2 of the experiment.
The order of learning conditions and the order of the passages given to the subjects were the same
were counterbalanced across all the subjects. After the experiment was

  • 3. How To Write A Narrative Essay About My Identity As an Iranian American, my identity comes with plenty of downsides. The severity of these ranges from being called a terrorist to having a body covered in hair. However the best perk of my identity is that my family is obsessed with food. All of my extended family members have cooked an amazing dish at some point during their teenage years. It s like a rite of passage that determines whether your parents view and treat you like an adult. Leading up to my junior year, I had been unable to accomplish this. Whenever I had free time, I would turn on The Food Network with the hope that I would find an astonishing recipe that would blow my mind. Nothing. As months went by, my confidence began to diminish. I was about to lost all hope when I stumbled upon the recipe in an unexpected environment. Left. LEFT! Paddle faster, I shouted, trying to instruct our raft team to avoid rocks as we soared down the white rapids. We were flying down waterfalls, avoiding other rafts, and trying to reach our destination, where we would feast on cold cuts. Our raft was rocketing around a turnabout when it suddenly crashed and lodged itself between two massive boulders. We were stuck. Our guide radioed in for help as we all sat in an awkward silence. He instructed me to rub the ingredients on the exterior of the steak so that they absorb the moisture from the outside and give the steak a crusty surface. Next, I would need to turn the grill up as high as it could go and grill each side for six minutes. This way the juices on the inside would remain trapped due to the perfectly seared exterior. After the grilling portion is complete, the guide told me to wrap the steak in foil and let it sit for three to four minutes, allowing it to drop to the ideal temperature to ... • 5. Negotiation Theory Essay NEGOTIATION Negotiation theory Last updated 9 months ago The foundations of negotiation theory are decision analysis, behavioral decision making, game theory, and negotiation analysis. Another classification of theories distinguishes between Structural Analysis, Strategic Analysis, Process Analysis, Integrative Analysis and behavioral analysis of negotiations. Individuals should make separate, interactive decisions; and negotiation analysis considers how groups of reasonably bright individuals should and could make joint, collaborative decisions. These theories are interleaved and should be approached from the synthetic perspective. Common Assumptions Of Most Theories Negotiation is a specialized and formal version of conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore the parties have contradicting incentives to cooperate or defect. If one party cooperates or makes a concession and the other does not, the defecting party might relatively gain more. Trust may be built only in repetitive games through the emergence of reliable patterns of behaviour such as tit for tat. This table illustrates the options and possible outcomes of the Negotiator s Dilemma. Process Analysis Process analysis is the theory closest to haggling. Parties start from two points and converge through a series of concessions. As in strategic analysis, both sides have a veto (e.g. sell, not sell; pay, not pay). Process analysis also features structural assumptions, because one side may be weaker or stronger (e.g. more eager to sell, not willing to pay a certain price). Process Analysis focuses on the study of the dynamics of processes. E.g. both Zeuthen and Cross tried to find a formula in order to predict the behaviour of the other party in finding a rate of concession, in order to predict the likely outcome. The process of negotiation therefore is considered to unfold between fixed points: starting point of discord, end point of convergence. The so called security point, that is the result of optional withdrawal, is also taken into account. Integrative Analysis Integrative analysis divides the process into successive stages, rather than talking about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Examples Of Bravery In The Odyssey Homer s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, is a classic literature piece written originally in ancient Greece. The book is an epic poem about the hero Odysseus perils and his journey back home after being held away for twenty years. While this is taking place, his son, Telamakhos tries to find his father and gain his place in adulthood. To fully find self respect, Telamakhos must overcome the suitors that have taken over his father s house. Both men commit acts of heroism and bravery throughout the poem. Many characters throughout the story show bravery in our modern way, but Odysseus is the hero of this old story. So these examples of bravery in the Odyssey come from him. Odysseus shows his bravery in a flashback to the time he was on his way home from the ten year war in Troy. In book X, lines 299 301, he tells one of his men Euralokhos: ...rest here then; take food and wine; stay in the black hull s shelter. Let me go, as I see nothing for it but to go. (Homer 273) Euralokhos has just told him that a group of his men have been turned to swine by the powerful goddess, Kirki. Odysseus goes into her home to get his men back even though he, too, could be turned into a swine as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He and his men had just sailed past the sirens. • 7. Self-Moralism And Social Criticism In Jane Addams Jane Addams wanted the mind of women to be valued and mirrored through the actions of individuals seeking to use emotions of empathy and feeling of duty rather than self interest. She joined the growing pool of criticism of Social Darwinism not because of its scientific weaknesses, but rather due to its center principal of anti morality. She refused to accept its masculine ideals of physical dominance to serve self interest and its ranking of materialism. Without doubt, one of her most stringent and remembered points of social criticism was targeted at paternalism. She routinely exposed the motives behind 19th century philanthropists who attempted to do good to people rather than to do good with them . Once again, her target of criticism is the male centered way of thinking that was pertinent in her time, due to the fact that it was overwhelmingly focused on placing oneself ahead of another person and attempting to force yourself onto them because you feel that your way of handling the situation is better than those who are experiencing the hardship you are attempting to amend in the first place. She wanted less of a paternal mindset and more of a maternal one that is categorized by empathetic collaboration instead of domination. Addams viewed new groups of immigrants as a welcomed force into urban American society. Her ideology on race, which can be described as pluralist, was fitting toward a strategy of reform that took aim at socioeconomic conditions that were far too ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the book, The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, the author introduces a new concept, The Laws of Epidemics, which includes The Law of the Few, Stickiness Factor and Power of Context. A celebrity is always seen a connector, people who have incredibly widespread social networks that play an integral role in the spread of ideas and a salesperson, a person that specializes in the act of persuasion (Gladwell). The stickiness factor plays a role in this particular trend because it shows how and why celebrities around the world are all starting a new profession. Power of contexts ... • 11. Difference Between Formal And Informal Imperialism DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FORMAL AND INFORMAL IMPERIALISM Name University Course Tutor Date Difference between formal and informal imperialism Throughout the history of the world, different kingdoms have been competing to expand their territories. In most cases, the expansion of theses territories has been at the expense of weaker territories that are incapable of fighting back effectively owing to different barriers . For example, the Mongols expanded their territory in less than a hundred years to over 6,000 miles using lightning fast archers who rode on horsebacks . An irrefutable fact about empires is the fact that they never hold together for long as they fall apart. However, as time has been passing, changes have been exhibited in the empires that are being formed. As such, historians normally divide imperialism into two types , formal, as well as informal imperialism. Consequently, this article explains the differences that exist between formal imperialism and informal imperialism by use of examples. To begin with, the literal meanings of the two types of imperialism act as a difference between them. For instance, informal imperialism may be taken to signify an authority without any trace of formality, also without any fixed rules set to control. As a matter of fact, it may be defined to be an authority without the usual forms that symbolize authority . Clearly, this is the opposite of all the values that formal imperialism encompasses. Formal imperialism creates a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Traditional Vs. Online Education Compare and Contrast Traditional vs. Online As this world s technology is progressing so is the way we teach and learn. Ever since school started hundreds of years ago it s always been a teacher in a live classroom with many students. Everything is shifting, however; and now we have transitioned into online classes as well. I have had both, and I can tell you there are many comparisons and contrasts between the two. 77% of educators believe that online learning is just as good as traditional learning, if not better, nearly 70% of all students claim online instruction to be as good as or better than a traditional classroom setting, and 26% of online students claim to learn better online than in a classroom. So clearly people aren t too against this new form of learning. Online enrollment rates are expanding at much faster rates than traditional classroom enrollment growth; specifically, in higher education, online enrollments have grown 21%, whereas growth for traditional classroom instruction registers only 2% since 2002. Traditional and Online classes have a lot of similarities and differences especially in areas like flexibility, comprehension of the course material, and discipline. Traditional is what I had my entire life up until I entered high school. It is what I prefer out of both choices. I learn from one on one interaction, and that is something that online doesn t have. In traditional there is not very much flexibility because of several reasons. Classes are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many reformers at this time such as Jacob Riis focused on the poor and immigrants moral improvements and ignored the crippling impact of low wages and dangerous working conditions. Organizations expelled immigrants from drinking and other forbidden behaviors such as prostitution and gambling. What these reformers didn t understand was that the conditions that immigrants faced, led them to act these ways. Jane Addams realized this. Addams developed a new weapon against poverty: the settlement houses. Addams toured in Europe in 1883 and was impressed by Toynbee Hall, which was a charity workers residence situated deep in a London slum. When Addams returned to Chicago in 1889, they purchased and refurnished Charles J. Hull s mansion and opened the Hull House, in a settlement approach. In 1892, Addams delivered a speech in a lecture to the Ethnic Cultural Societies about the settlement housing. These societies probably had political connections to human rights issues. The speech is called The Subjective Necessity for Social Settlements, and its main points were to give the immigrants and underprivileged the same opportunities as the rest of the population. What makes this her story stand out is not just that it s a memoir but also because the main point is beauty and how women in her family were put down and abused because of their appearance. Throughout this whole book Dorothy tries to send out one important message on beauty which from my understanding beauty is not based on what men say or society says, we live in a world where a woman s beauty is determined whether a man find hers beautiful and that must stop. Timothy Dow Adams who read s Two or Three things i know for sure writes his review on it, and his understanding of Dorothy Allison s points of views. A study of prisoners by the Urban Institute indicated that eight months after imprisonment, only 65% of those released had found employment at any point, and only 45% were currently employed at the time of the study. Despite his punctuality and great work ethic, Cutty loses his job. With hesitation, he rejoins his old gang and returns to his criminal lifestyle. The main reason this policy is important for the criminal justice system is to stop the problem from the source with regard to families and drug patterns that go from generation to generation. First, the strict policy on substance abuse dates back to the formal declaration of the war on drugs by the president of the united states Richard Nixon. He wrote countless of poems, each being relatable and readable. One of his shining examples of his work is summed up into one brilliant writing, Musee Des Beaux Arts. This poem covers all grounds in the most simple way you could understand, yet also in the most complex. There is no area he lacks in and always impresses with the diversity that one writing of his can cover. Not only does he emotionally tie you into the poem, but he also gives spiritual insight and expresses political views. The ship was either shamefully oblivious to what was happening right next to it or it cruelly made the decision to not care regardless. The painful light of human s actions is executed simply through Auden s interpretation of the painting in the museum. It is clear that Auden believes we are too passive and poor with the power we hold. With fair judgement, I agree the painting along with the poem makes sense that most would like to keep quiet about. IEEE 802 subdivides the data link layer into sublayers, namely the logical link control (LLC) and media access control (MAC) layers, which provide protocol multiplexing and a multi access mechanism, respectively. IEEE 802 is comprised of standards with separate working groups that regulate different communication networks, including IEEE 802.1, 802.3, 802.11 and 802.15. (Technopedia, 2014). • 32. Online Degree Programs versus Residential Degree Programs... Assignment Our assignment was to research benefits for online degree programs and benefits for residential degree programs. We are then supposed to tell our stance on the issue. I There are many reasons for online degree programs. My class came up with numerous good, solid reasons in favor of getting a degree online. They are as follows: Less costly No commuting Ability to work classes around schedule More focused use of time Specialized degree programs (with no general education requirements) Credits transfer Flexibility in completing assignments Don t have to sit in a classroom Faster completion possible No campus drama Same quality education as face to face More career options Interactive and engaging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For flexibility, we realized that the student would have flexible classes. They would be able to work whenever they needed to wherever they needed to. For example, if an online student had a job, family, or both, they would be able to pursue their degree while also taking care of their family or working. They would be able to complete their classes wherever there was an Internet connection. My last category was student experiences, and numerous reasons fit under this heading. To begin, there are actually more interactions with students when they take an online class because they need to interact with the teacher and other students more. Online classes also teach students discipline and time management skills since the work load is done on their own time. There are numerous reasons for online classes; my class came up with copious reasons and then I categorized the reasons into four key components: money, opportunities, flexibility, and student experiences. II My class listed many online sources where they found helpful information regarding the benefits of residential colleges. Combining some of my class s resources and some I found on my own, I came up with one major benefit of residential colleges: most of the learning in college happens outside the classroom and residential colleges allow that type of learning to flourish. One way that students learn outside the classroom is by doing group projects. While online students can do group work, they do not have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. How Adversity Changed My Life Throughout life, we all become acquainted with life altering experiences, some changing us for the better, others for the worse. It is our job, as individuals, to either learn and develop in the face of these experiences or to dismiss them without looking back. They are what shape our very character, our foundation for the future. Without them, we d be empty shells, individuals without any substance to guide them. Even though I am still quite young, I ve already had quite my fair share of these experiences, and for that I am extremely thankful. Academics, community service and adversity; all have contributed to my development in one shape or another. Without these experiences, I would not be the self that I know myself to be. Nothing is of greater importance. I feel as if adversity has played the greatest role in shaping my character and personality. May it be financial instability, parental problems, or even just plain stress, they have all taught me valuable lessons that I will cherish for years to come. My family has always had trouble, both with financial stability and familial stability. We ve never been able to do all of the things that normal families get to do. For example, I don t remember the last time my family went on a genuine vacation, let alone a vacation will all of us together. This also plays a role in our familial instability. We are by no means a close knit family: we fight every day, we never spend quality time together, and we are always holed up in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Why Is John Brown Wrong John Brown: Right or Wrong about Abolition While John Brown had the right idea about abolishing slavery, he killed people because of it. Brown appointed himself captain of the antislavery forces at the Osawatomie Creek. When proslavery forces attacked the free state town of Lawrence, guerilla (a member of a small independent group taking part in irregular fighting [www.dictionary.com]) warfare broke out. The warfare caused more than a hundred men and boys to die. However, that is not the worst part; the people killed were killed in cold blood. They did not fight back; in fact most of them were not even armed. The success of the proslavery guerilla fired up Brown s resolution, as well as four of his sons and two other allies, to murder five reputably proslavery settlers. (History.com Staff) However, all of his acts led up to his largest and final act. That final act was John Brown s Raid on Harper s Ferry. His plan was to capture arms to supply the slaves and create a mass insurgence. It took several months of getting ready and gathering supplies. To start off, he was a fugitive from the law, so he grew a beard to disguise himself. (Kent, p.10) He spent weeks getting money from his societies, specifically the Secret ... • 37. Performance On Immediate Retention Tests Roediger Karpicke (2005) predict that performance on immediate retention tests would rise with the number of study opportunities, due to massed practice usually only producing short term results. They also believe that taking a retention directly after a study session would result in superior retention on delayed tests compared to repeatedly studying the material. This would result in proving that test taking as a better means to improve long term retention compared to re presentation of material during testing. Methods In order to obtain this information on retention two experiments were conducted using psychological testing to collect data (Weiten, 2014). The first was a experimental 2 x 3 factorial design, using one hundred twenty undergraduate students from Washington University, ages 18 to 24 (Roddiger Karpicke, 2005). The independent variables that were manipulated were the different learning conditions and time between studying and test taking, as well as when the subjects would take the final retention test which occurred either 5 minutes, 2 days, or 1 week after the end of the 1st phase of the experiment (Roddiger Karpicke, 2005). The dependent variable were how much information could the subjects reten and their performance on the final retention test given in phase 2 of the experiment. The order of learning conditions and the order of the passages given to the subjects were the same were counterbalanced across all the subjects. After the experiment was ...
