The Ice Hotel And The Travelodge
Introduction
For a long time researchers are trying to find the perfect recipe for success, however it is very hard to
predict the response of the market to a new product and its adaptation to the environment. The Ice
Hotel and the Travelodge are two ventures established in the end of 20th century both in the travel and
hospitality sector but each one with its own unique business strategy. In evaluation of their success the
decisions made throughout the development of the above mentioned ventures can be categorized as
effectual and causal, as explained by Sarasvathy (2010). G.Sanvikarja suggests that causational logic
is more rational and based on prediction where as the effectual strategy is more creative and is control
orientated. Each of these approaches implies different strategies and reasoning behind both individual
decisions and responsiveness to the environment. Furthermore, most enterprises follow a set of
common principles that are key for building a business strategy including defining means, setting
affordable loss, leveraging contingencies and forming partnerships (S. et. al, 2010). These four aspects
are crucial for understanding how is a business created and what is its approach. However, it should be
noted that most of the businesses are not strictly effectual or causal, rather a mixture of both with a tilt
towards one. Every business is individual and should be treated like one. This paper will examine the
business strategies behind the Ice Hotel and the

The Compromise Of The Civil War
Without Compromise The issue with compromise is that it must give each party the sense they have
won something or at least not suffer a total loss. Why then, did the Compromises of 1820 and 1850
not prevent the Civil War? Because neither set of laws directly addressed the right to own slaves. A
country cannot have two sets of laws for two different regions. As we have seen with segregation and
gay rights, deferring to states laws only works to delay addressing the issue at hand. While no one can
say the Civil War was solely caused by the divisive issue of slavery, it is safe to say the North and
South were polarized. The Civil War had to happen to force the country to stop compromising and
declare a winner and a single set of rules to live by. In the beginning of the 19th century ,The United
States was already equally divided between free states and slave holding states. The Compromise of
1820 was passed by Congress merely to keep The Union in equilibrium, not to resolve the issue of
slavery. The 1820 Compromise created a line at 36 30 latitude line that would determine a boundary
for the Northern free and Southern slave holding states. This effectively permitted Missouri into The
Union as a slave holding state and created Maine, from northern Massachusetts, as free state. Bringing
the count of free and slave holding states to an even 24. As balance was struck it only stalled the issue
and in 1854 the Kansas Nebraska Act, which asked the State to determine their stance

Personal Reflection
As I was reading this book, I kept having awe moments because I have either seen the material
covered in real time or have thought about it. Out of the five career strategy components, the two that
stood out for me were extending experiences and networking/connecting. Reflecting on my
educational and professional career, these two themes have been the most relevant.
Extending experiences When I graduated from UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), I expected to get a job
within the month. I believed that by simply having my degree I would stand out from the group, little
did I know this was completely false. I had a resume with little experience and realized it was my lack
of previous experiences that would haunt me. In addition to having little experience, I never visited a
career counselor at UCSB to assist me with the proper structure of a resume and cover letter. Feeling
unprepared and disappointed at myself about how I used my time while at UCSB, I fell into a minor
depression. After every denial email from employers, my depression grew. However, it was one
experience that truly shaped my job search perception. I applied to any and every job in the market
and got the opportunity to interview for AT T for a clerk position. Going into the job interview I had
high hopes because I knew I had the discipline. When I entered the office where the interview was
being held, the hiring manager asked me a few questions about myself and then he stopped. He was
looking over my resume and

Literally Speaking in Quentin Tarantino s film Pulp Fiction
Quentin Tarantino s film, Pulp Fiction, uses words to the fullest of their meanings. Words in the film
amplify meaning through their duplicity. Characters call one another names wherein the names
meanings enhance our understanding of what the character is saying. Even if the author or speaker
does not consciously intend the meaning, the language that this paper analyzes contains meaning of
psychological importance. Characters actual names in the film are also of particular significanc e.
Nearly every character s name reflects his personality or role in the film. Because people are human

The change in perceived meaning of the word and the ensuing change in expected reaction made him
feel foolish. Rightly, discovering that he had used the wrong word was not an este em shattering blow
to Ringo, but it illustrates how the perceived meaning of a word and the ideas it means transmit
forecast the expected reaction. The association carried by a name may either amplify or inhibit a
character s emotional state. Jules call s the young man Ringo in the restaurant superficially because of
his English accent. Strategically, Jules identifies the young man with a broadly admired celebrity to
establish fraternity and to calm him. By calling the young man Ringo, Jules superi mposes the
admiration that Ringo Starr receives upon the young man. Obviously, Jules did not go through this
elaborate thought process when he chose to use that name. If you were to imagine Jules instead using
any other British name (e.g. George III, Ch aucer, or John Major) primarily because of the young man
s accent, you would see a significantly different reaction. Soon afterward, Jules learns Yolanda s, the
young woman s, name in order to pierce through her confused state and reason with her. He at tempts
to calm her with a similar strategy.
Jules: Nobody s gonna hurt anybody. We re gonna be like three Fonzies. And what s Fonzie like? (No

The Problem of God in Devils and The Brothers Karamazov
In contemplating the creation of the novel The Idiot, Dostoyevsky wrote in a letter to A.N. Maikov
that he hoped to focus the work around a question with which I have been tormented, consciously or
unconsciously all my life that is, the existence of God. 1 Dostoyevsky s personal struggle with the
question of faith, and also his own experience with trying doubts as a believer, are manifested in the
characters he writes. A large number of Dostoyevsky s books are written within the framework of a
Christian doctrine, juxtaposing characterizations of believers and non believers, enforcing the ultimate
good and reason that follow from possessing a faith. Dostoyevsky also ... Show more content on

Moreover, these childhood associations seem to have strongly imprinted upon his mind, This book
[the book of Job] Anna [his wife], it s strange is one of the first which made an impression on me in
life, I was just then only a little boy. 5
While a large portion of Dostoyevsky s nurturing seems to have occurred in a Christian nest, he was
also exposed to the harsh qualities possessed by man. His father was, though reverent, a drunk, and
was later murdered by serfs on account of his inhumane treatment.6
This rougher sphere of his upbringing manifested itself in Dostoyevsky s early adulthood. He became
involved in a group known as the Russian Utopian Socialists, influenced by Belinsky, a well known
literary critic. The partnership formed by the two presumably shook Dostoyevsky s faith, as his
revered mentor found that as a socialist, he had to destroy Christianity in the first place. He knew that
the revolution must necessarily begin with atheism. 7 Later, though, Dostoyevsky broke off from the
specific branch of the movement, forming the Durov circle. He was arrested for the circulation of a
private letter full of insolent expressions against the Orthodox Church. 8 Evidently, he had forgotten
his mother s teachings.
While in prison (where the only book allowed was The Bible) it appears Dostoyevsky began to
reemerge as a believer, writing in a letter to Mrs. N.D. Fonvizin:

were modified by other people has improved throughout the history of the diesel engine. They have

The Role of Ambition in Macbeth
The role of ambition in Macbeth The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare recounts Macbeth
s meteoric rise as a soldier and promising future leader whose megalomaniacal ambition led to his
tragic downfall. In addition to Macbeth s ambitions, which initially enable him to be strong leader and
soldier, he is influenced heavily by his wife, Lady Macbeth, and the three witches that prophesize his
ascent to the throne, as well as warn him of his eventual demise. It can be argued that it is Macbeth s
ambition that allows him to succeed in his endeavors, however the goals to which he is working
toward influence the results of his hard work. Macbeth s ambitions help him to become a war hero,
and as his goals change, his ambitions drive him to become a tyrannical villain. At the beginning of
the play, Macbeth and Banquo, Macbeth s friend and a sergeant in King Duncan s army, are hailed as
heroes in helping to defeat Macdonwald who led the allied forces of Norway and Ireland against
Scotland. The Sergeant exalts Macbeth s prowess and states,
For brave Macbeth well he deserves that name
Disdaining fortune, with his brandish d steel,
Which smoked with bloody execution,
Like valour s minion carved out his passage
Till he faced the slave;
Which ne er shook hands, nor bade farewell to him,
Till he unseam d him from the nave to the chaps,
And fix d his head upon our battlements. (Shakespeare, n.d., 1.2.35 42)

Racism In The Play Two Towns Of Jasper By Moises Kaufman
Racism is a global problem where societies subject individuals with certain attributes that are judged
as inferior or superior to special treatment [3]. Although its prevalence is waning off, this problem is
very old. It would also be quite difficult to eradicate racism from our societies completely. This is due
to the obvious variations in people s religion, color, geographic location, culture and economic factors
such as social class [3]. Whereas eradication of racism might sound impossible, the society can make
enormous achievement in curbing its influence on most of the world s communities.
Moises Kaufman along with the Tectonic Theatre Project produced a play The Laramie Project
between the years 2000 and 2002 [2]. Based on the murder of a student in Laramie city, the play ...

Two towns of Jasper is a documentary that explains the influence of racism on the minds of people in
Texas and the world based on complexion. Some individuals of white origin killed Byrd Jr. a black
American [1].
The aftermath of the incidence in Texas increased publicity regarding the rights of both African and
white individuals. Citizens of American, irrespective of their color have a right to live anywhere in the
country and to exercise their liberty of interaction [1]. Differences in cultural values, perceptions and
life priorities make it difficult for many communities to fight hatred and violence between their
people. The media s participation raised awareness on how people from the two groups perceive each
other but increased tension between them. The white community perceives its black counterpart as a
possible source of danger as it tries to deflect away its involvement. It is, therefore, essential for
communities to induce a perception within its members that would make them embrace unity and

Hemophili Genetic Disorders In Children
Case Study
When you see a child with bruises, you may think that they have gotten injured from playing soccer or
riding a bike or, in worst case, that they are suffering from physical abuse. However, in this case, their
son is getting bruises even at the slightest touch. He also has joint pains and frequently bleeds for no
reason. The following symptoms, make it clear that the parents did not harm the child. I will explain
why I feel this way.
Based on the information given, the child s probable diagnosis is Hemophilia. Hemophilia is a genetic
disorder that prevents blood from clotting properly. Clotting helps stop bleeding after a cut or injury.
Without clotting, a wound can bleed too much either internally or externally. ( Bleeding Disorders in
Children, n.d.) According to Griffin (Griffin, 2015) Hemophilia mostly affects boys (about one in
every 5,000 10,000). Girls who inherit the gene rarely get the condition, but become carriers of the
gene and may pass it on to their children.
Hemophilia is an X chromosome disease meaning that it s the gene on the mother s chromosome that

according to La Kelley Communications (LA Kelley Communications, n.d), and they believe the
answer lies in gene therapy. Potential treatment includes taking genes with the correct directions for
making clotting factors and inserting them into the cells of a person with hemophilia. Scientists
believe the new gene will give the correct directions to the body to start producing high levels of
clotting factors, causing the person with hemophilia to develop successful blood

Pine Forests Of The Colorado Plateau
Ponderosa pine forests of the Colorado Plateau cover a large portion of the higher mesas and
mountains from elevations of 6000 to approximately 8000 feet. They often form almost pure stands
encompassing tens of thousands of acres at elevations above 6500 feet in the southern area. Located
southwest of Flagstaff to the White Mountains of eastern Arizona, the Mogollon Rim comprises the
southern edge of the Colorado Plateau in Arizona. The escarpment reaches close to 200 miles across
central Arizona, with an average elevation of approximately 7000 feet. It contains the largest
ponderosa pine forest in the United States.
The three needled Rocky Mountain ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa var. scopulorum) is the prevalent
form of pine throughout the Colorado Plateau. Gambel oak (Quercus gambelii) is commonly
associated with the ponderosa pine at lower elevations as well as the New Mexico locust (Robina
neomexicana). At higher elevations it shares habitat with southwestern white pine (Pinus
strobiformis), Rocky Mountain white fir (Abies concolor var. concolor), Rocky Mountain Douglas fir,
(Pseudotsuga menziesii var. glauca), and quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides). Understory plants
which are commonly found in these forests include grasses such as mountain muhly and Arizona
fescue, forbs such as lupine, as well as apache plume, buckbrush, currant, and cliffrose.

How Homeschooling Should Be Banned
Resolve that homeschooling should be banned. Imagine, you are a parent and you want the best
education for your child. Which do you choose, a public school, or homeschooling? The answer is
blatantly obvious, and I m here to tell you why. Firstly, you have to work to provide for YOURSELF,
let alone a FAMILY. It takes $10.20 per hour to provide for yourself, now let s take that times the
average family size. On average, a family has 2 parents and 2.5 children, so 4.5 people. So let s
multiply that by the needed hourly wage. This gets us $45.90 an hour, which is a HUGE
underestimate, (which means no extra luxuries, like having your children in sports) but we should just
go with this number for simplicity. $45.90 an hour isn t a devastating number, as long as you have 2
working parents. But with homeschooling one parent will have to take off A LOT of work to off
educate their children. So let s assume that you have 1.4 working parents with the average hourly
wage (so one full time working parent and one that has to take off SIX TENTHS of their jobs) , and
keep in mind this is generous for my opponent s side of the argument. This will give us, wait for it...
only 23.39! This isn t even close to provide for a family, in fact that s only enough to provide for the
parents!
And yes, I do realize that this won t be a problem to all families. Some will be able to afford this with
ease. Also this isn t a reason it should be banned, but rather a hindrance to a majority of families.

Selling Foreign Products In The United States
I do agree with the statement. Selling foreign products in the United States promotes those products
over ones that are made in the US. Eventually as foreign products get sold more the amount of similar
products that are created in the United States will drop, and will cause jobs to be lost. We can see how
many jobs are being moved to other countries because they can make products cheaper there. Today
many people just want to get products at the cheapest price possible, making these foreign products
appealing for buyers. In some cases such as foreign cars, the look of the cars can be more appealing to
buyers, which brings up the sales of foreign cars, but decreases the sales of cars made in the US. As

2.4: Explain the purpose of following health and safety procedures when using equipment
When using certain types of office equipment there are some things which could become a problem in
terms of health and safety. For example an office will have a lot of computers. When there are a lot of
computers it is extremely important that wires are tucked away and not lying around on the floor.
Loose wires on the floor make people in the building very vulnerable to trip over and to cause an

The purpose of keeping equipment clean and hygienic is that the next person to use it will not have to

each verse is a different in tempo and sound. So for this particular song he has a verse where he sings

The Battle On The Plains Of Abraham
In 2009 a planned re enactment of the Battle on the Plains of Abraham was set to take place on the
original battlefield in light of its 250th anniversary. However the historical re enactment of the 1759
battle was cancelled by The National Battlefields Commission for security concerns that could, as
CBC News wrote, turn into a modern day conflict. There is speculation other factors influenced the
withdrawal of the re enactment such as the overwhelming negative responses from the francophones
in Quebec. These negative reactions were supported by the devastation resulting from the loss of the
battle in 1759 and the modern day neglect of Quebec and French culture. I commend the decision to
cancel the re enactment of the Battle because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore I stand in favour of the threats alone being reasonable grounds for the federal body to cancel
the re enactment. Parti Quebecois was also blamed for the cancellation for their statement that event is
a slap in the face to Quebecers of French ancestry (CBC News) which got a rise out of those in
support of this political group as they began trying to stop the event. The statement released by Parti
Quebecois definitely had a hand in spreading awareness of the negative opinions of the re enactment
which ultimately led to large group of people opposed to the event resulting in the cancellation. All in
all, to those in charge, the cancellation of the event was about keeping innocent families out of harm s
way, preventing a modern day Battle based on the historical one from occurring, and maintaining a
civil status between the French and English in Quebec. Although the threats of violence from activist
groups were the official reason given for the cancellation of the re enactment, there are speculations of
other reasons as to why the federal body made this decision.
With the announcement of re enacting the Battle on the Plains of Abraham came an overwhelming
amount of negative feedback from Quebec residents, the reason being that the loss of the Battle began
a traumatic period in history for the French. With their victory, the British began trying to assimilate
the French, it was only

Water Crisis Impact in California
Due to the lack of rain in the past few years, and particularly in the last few months, California faces
severe drought. This is the worst drought in more than one hundred years. The impact of California
drought affects community, agriculture, organic ranchers, and dairy farmers. Because of these facts,
the United States must rethink the way it uses water. Californians alone are asked to reduce their water
usage by twenty percent to prevent water waste.

Economists at the University of California, Davis said that agriculture, once a $44 billion annual
business in California, will suffer a financial hit of $2.2 billion due to revenue losses and higher water
costs (Associated Press, 2014). Many farmers are going out of business because the production costs
have increased with rising inflation, while revenue has decreased. Others have reduced their farmland
plantations which decreases the crop production. Some of the affected crops include oranges,
pistachios and rice. One example of how this affects the nation is the California almonds. California
[is] the source of eighty percent of the world s almonds (Bloomberg, 2014). This year farmers had to
come up with new tactics to rescue the nut from drought by diverting the water used for vegetables
and drilling more water wells to keep the trees hydrated (Bloomberg, 2014). Farmers are not the only
group of workers affected by the drought. Organic ranchers and dairy farmers in California also feel
the effects of the drought. They rely on green pasture to feed their animals a healthy diet. Due to the
lack of rain, the pasture are drying up and the ranchers have to purchase supplemental organic hay
from other states. In an attempt to fund the purchasing of this out of state hay, the organic farmers are
selling herds to businesses for hamburger meat and the small

Saddam, Iraq, And The Gulf War Essay
War, justifiable or not, is complete madness. It is hell. No matter what the cause, or what the reason is,
war remains mankind s greatest source of tragedy, the plague of mankind, and the plague of this
country. Our country has existed for only 200 years, a relatively short time, and already we have been
involved in over eleven major wars. Four have been fought this last fifty years. We are a nation of
freedom, but we are also a nation of strong military presence. Our reasons for going to war have
differed little from most nations. Political, social, and economic factors working alone or with each
other lead us into all of our conflicts. A drive for independence brought on the Revolutionary war. A

Thousands showed up for rallies to send off the troops. Tens of thousands of individuals and families

Economic perspective of Climate change Climate is an average weather condition during a region in a

the perspective of meteorology, The climate change refers to a specific location, time of regional or
global climate change or conversion, based on the all of the conditions associated with the average
weather characteristics, such as temperature, wind and precipitation etc. According to the IPCC s
Synthesis Report, Anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions have increased since the pre industrial era,
driven largely by economic and population growth, and are now higher than ever. This has led to
atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide that are unprecedented in at
least the last 800,000 years. Their effects, together with those of other anthropogenic drivers, have
been detected throughout the climate system and are extremely likely to have been the dominant cause

Repressed Memories
Abstract In recent years there has been a hot debate between repressed vs. false memories.
Neurobiological studies show that both suppression and recall and the creation of false memories are

that both are feasible and separate phenomenon, which occur at significant rates in our society. Further

Neurobiological studies show that both suppression and recall and the creation of false memories are
possible. (Kandel, 1994) In this paper both sides of the debate will be analyzed and evaluated.
The issue of false vs. repressed memories is of increasing relevance to counseling psychologists and
indeed to any professional involved in therapy. The reputation of therapy is at stake, as clients begin to
sue therapists for the implantation of false memories. In turn, it is essential that all clinicians conduct
their therapy according to the latest guidelines of practice as to avoid suggestion and the possible
implantation of false memories.
The need for understanding the phenomenon of repressed memories is also very important from a
legal standpoint. In recent years there has been numerous cases of people suing their parents or other
authority figures for abuse that has been recalled many years after the abuse was said to have
occurred. The rulings in these cases have often been controversial considering there is often not
enough concrete or collaborative evidence to prove the accused to be guilty or innocent. The judge
and jury are often forced to make a ruling that relies heavily on the testimonial of the accuser. This is
very contentious considering there is not an accurate and reliable test to determine the validity of the
accuser.
The importance of understanding the underlying psychological mechanisms by which both memories
are repressed and

Persuasive Essay For Fashion
In today s blog, we are going to discuss tips to make shopping for your wedding dress as easy and as
stress free as possible. The first thing you want to do is set up a budget. Plan to spend 10 percent of
your overall wedding budget on your dress. This number is simply a starting point. If dress fashion is
most important, increase the budget for your dress and scale back on other areas. You want to start the
quest for your perfect dress early. Depending on the dress and the designer, it can take time between
the moment the order is placed and when you can bring the gown home. If the dress is custom made, it
can take 4 to 5 months for the designer make the gown. You also want to schedule three fittings about
a month apart. By starting early, it will give you plenty of time to shop and see what is available. If
you are short on time, keep in mind you can expedite this by paying a surcharge for the gown. In the
search for the perfect dress, you want to research what is available. This part of the process will allow
you to think about what kind of dress you want. Look at Bridal magazines, Pinterest, and bridal
related websites. Consider making a folder to house the designs, fabric samples, and anything else that
sparks your fancy. Take your folder with you when you go shopping for your dress. This will give the
consultant a feel for what you are looking for and will provide information to serve you best. The next

However, once it becomes black, mushy and hard, we get tired of seeing it, hoping the sun melts it all

The Ballet dance, which also incorporates movements of contemporary and South American folk

Ghost Dancers fuses many styles of dance including the primary style of ballet, contemporary and
traditional Chilean folk dance. Ballet is the base of the dance as Bruce is primarily a Ballet
choreographer. Contemporary is evident as flexed feet and bent arms and legs are seen throughout the
performance. And Chilean folk dance can be seen in many sections of the dance with the civilians, as
there are many quick movements of the feet and, as shown in the fourth section with the women, they
do a movement throughout their section, which consists of change of direction with their arms out.
The costumes that the dancers wear are also significant. The costume that the ghost dancers wear is
based on the Native American legend of the Ghost Dance or Natdia. This spiritual dance was
performed during the late 1880 s, when things were bad and the Native Americans needed something
to give them hope. The dance reached its high point just before the Wounded Knee Massacre of 1890,
where US soldiers opened fire and killed over 200 hundred Native Americans. They believed that
performing the ghost dance would later reunite them with their ancestors along the line. The civilians
costumes represented that of everyday people. They all had different clothes on and of the three
different classes of people, lower, middle and upper class. This gives a representation that during the
coup that no specific class was targeted and that anyone could be a

Suppressed Darkness On The Medieval Mind Map
Suppressed Darkness on the Medieval Mind Map
William Manchester s A World Lit Only By Fire: The Medieval Mind and the Renaissance unveils an
in depth look at the Late Medieval Ages in Europe and touches upon the Renaissance. It is most well
known as the time period that occurred after the fall of the Roman Empire when the eastern world
seemed to have plummeted into an age of regression and darkness. Manchester s central proposition
was The power of the medieval mind had been irrevocably broken (295). The dimensions of the
medieval mind were cloaked from the outside world and suppressed by the ever powerful dogmas of
the Catholic Church, for there was no room for doubt; the possibility of skepticism simply did not
exist (20). At the same time, a new era was rising in Europe, accompanied by an increasing rate in
literacy, new innovations, the printing press, powerful political figures, and the appraisals of the
Catholic Church. A new cultural movement began to appear, known as the Renaissance, and the
darkness of the medieval mind map was forever shattered, to remain a pale illusion. Humanists, such
as Sir Thomas More and Desiderius Erasmus, and inventors and explorers such as Leonardo Da Vinci,
Nicolas Copernicus, and Ferdinand Magellan guided the way to a new ideology of independent
thinking. Following the campaign of upcoming thinkers, movements, and changes that would turn
people s blind eye, Manchester concluded his point with the tale of Magellan s heroic

between the audience space and performers space were definitely separate: meaning the audience were

The Klux Klan And The Klan
Throughout the 1920 s the Ku Klux Klan or KKK were a very powerful and influential group of white
protestant men in the United States. This powerful group advocated white supremacy, racism, anti
Catholicism, and nativism just to name a few things. Many of the KKK members, as well as their
followers disagreed with abolishing slavery and believed that immigrants, homosexuals, and southern
Republicans along with many others threatened American values. The Klan hit its peak during the mid
1920s with millions of members across the country (Wormser, 2002). The groups popularity came
from their violent reputations, as well as the print and media coverage they received throughout the
years. This soon allowed the Klan to have a powerful political influence at both the state and local
level. Although the media and newspapers were important elements in helping the Klan grow it was a
double sided blade, and soon was a leading cause in the group s demise.
The Ku Klux Klan has been classified as one of the first hate groups in the United States. This was
due to their excessive amount of violent acts towards any group of people who did not meet their
standards. A few of the goals of this group included; defeating the Republican Party and its supporters,
as well as trying to maintain an absolute white reigned America. The Klan was not afraid to use

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Flying Toilets
PeePoo s creator is Anders Wilhelmson, a Swedish architect and professor. It is omni present in
Kenya, Nigeria and Bangladesh as a sanitation business as a substitute for toilets. Peepoo recognises
that merely building toilets is not enough and making people use the toilet is of critical importance. It
is the behaviour intention that diffuses an innovative product. It must be applicable in slums where
sanitation is absent.
Without toilets, people resort to relieving themselves in plastic bags, which they throw as far away
from their home as they can; a phenomenon known as flying toilets. In some areas, flying toilets have
become a public health concern.
Flying toilets are a common problem in urban areas like slums. To provide access to safe and
acceptable toilet system in urban areas with a dense and generally poor population, one has to face the
challenges of the lack of availability of space, willingness to pay and the absence of an institutional
infrastructure. The Peepoo toilet could be an alternative solution. It is a personal, biodegradable toilet
for single use. It can be used either sitting or standing, where and whenever the user wants and it is
easy to carry around.
The PeePoo is a bag that contains five grams of urea, which breaks down waste into ammonia ... Show

Within the bag there is a thin inner gauze (26 x 24 cm), and a filling of urea . When the urea comes
into contact with faeces or urine, a breakdown into ammonia and carbonate takes place, driven by
enzymes, which are naturally occurring in faeces. As the urea is broken down, the pH value of the
material increases and hygienisation begins. Organisms, which produce diseases (pathogens) and may
be found in faeces (bacteria, viruses and parasites) are inactivated within 2 to 4 weeks depending on
the surrounding temperature , In the end, when the Peepoo degrades in the soil, the ammonia acts as a
harmless fertiliser taken up by

The Pros And Cons Of American Exceptionalism
Whenever a country or a nation becomes a superpower, it starts describing itself as a unique or a truly
exceptional country. The Ancient Greeks believed they were exceptional, the French believed they
were too, and so did the British. Things haven since changed, in the 21st century, American
Exceptionalism has gained traction. The idea of America being a uniquely free nation founded on
democratic ideals. American exceptionalism believes the U.S is better than all of the previous
exceptional countries, it believes the U.S behaves better than all of the previous exceptional countries
and that the United States is responsible for most of the good in the world. These ideas are fleshed out
with common quotes describing America such as shinning city on the hill or leader of the free world
(Walt). These ideas of exceptionalisms and patriotisms result in the United States feeling it has the
responsibility and authorization to introduce liberal democracy all around the world through any
means necessary. In this rush of patriotism, the U.S. ignores to analyze whether it should push
countries towards democracies through extreme measures or is it better for both the country being
pushed to democracy and the United States for the U.S itself to take a more offhand approach. The ...

Whole Foods Market Core Values
Whole Foods Market
The name of the company I will be discussing goes by the name of Whole Foods Market . Whole
Foods Market was founded in Austin, Texas, when four local business people decided the natural
foods industry was ready for a supermarket format (www.wholefoodsmarket.com) . The four persons
who founded the company goes by the names: Craig Weller and Mark Siles who were owners of
Clarksville Natural Grocery along with John Mackey and Renee Lawson Hardy who were owners of
Safer Way Natural Foods. When Whole Foods Market was launched it quickly became a success and
has expanded and exploded to a number of States in the United States of America.
What impressed me about this particular company are the eight core values that they have ... Show

This company has implemented so many different methods for going green, therefore I will be only
discussing two as follows; the first strategy is a slogan that is being used by the organization on a
regular basis called by the name; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. All the stores that the company has have
taken the initiative to reduce the impact we as human beings create on the earth by reducing paper by
going paper less, composting, using vegetable based inks etc. Reuse this is done by reusing materials
whenever it becomes possible. The company provides the use of reusable grocery bags to its
customers, new stores are constructed with reclaimed wood and bricks and also the installation of rain
water collection systems to reuse rain water for non consumable purposes is being practiced. Recycle
this is done through the utilization of the delivery trucks which backhauls waste to regional facilities
where it is turned into compost and donated to community gardens or stores. Other methods of
recycling is done by replacing disposable batteries with rechargeable ones, using recycled paper with a
high percentage of post consumer waste

The Ice Hotel And The Travelodge Introduction For a long time researchers are trying to find the perfect recipe for success, however it is very hard to predict the response of the market to a new product and its adaptation to the environment. The Ice Hotel and the Travelodge are two ventures established in the end of 20th century both in the travel and hospitality sector but each one with its own unique business strategy. In evaluation of their success the decisions made throughout the development of the above mentioned ventures can be categorized as effectual and causal, as explained by Sarasvathy (2010). G.Sanvikarja suggests that causational logic is more rational and based on prediction where as the effectual strategy is more creative and is control orientated. Each of these approaches implies different strategies and reasoning behind both individual decisions and responsiveness to the environment. Furthermore, most enterprises follow a set of common principles that are key for building a business strategy including defining means, setting affordable loss, leveraging contingencies and forming partnerships (S. et. al, 2010). These four aspects are crucial for understanding how is a business created and what is its approach. However, it should be noted that most of the businesses are not strictly effectual or causal, rather a mixture of both with a tilt towards one. Every business is individual and should be treated like one. This paper will examine the business strategies behind the Ice Hotel and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Compromise Of The Civil War Without Compromise The issue with compromise is that it must give each party the sense they have won something or at least not suffer a total loss. Why then, did the Compromises of 1820 and 1850 not prevent the Civil War? Because neither set of laws directly addressed the right to own slaves. A country cannot have two sets of laws for two different regions. As we have seen with segregation and gay rights, deferring to states laws only works to delay addressing the issue at hand. While no one can say the Civil War was solely caused by the divisive issue of slavery, it is safe to say the North and South were polarized. The Civil War had to happen to force the country to stop compromising and declare a winner and a single set of rules to live by. In the beginning of the 19th century ,The United States was already equally divided between free states and slave holding states. The Compromise of 1820 was passed by Congress merely to keep The Union in equilibrium, not to resolve the issue of slavery. The 1820 Compromise created a line at 36 30 latitude line that would determine a boundary for the Northern free and Southern slave holding states. This effectively permitted Missouri into The Union as a slave holding state and created Maine, from northern Massachusetts, as free state. Bringing the count of free and slave holding states to an even 24. As balance was struck it only stalled the issue and in 1854 the Kansas Nebraska Act, which asked the State to determine their stance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Out of the five career strategy components, the two that stood out for me were extending experiences and networking/connecting. Reflecting on my educational and professional career, these two themes have been the most relevant. Extending experiences When I graduated from UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), I expected to get a job within the month. I believed that by simply having my degree I would stand out from the group, little did I know this was completely false. I had a resume with little experience and realized it was my lack of previous experiences that would haunt me. In addition to having little experience, I never visited a career counselor at UCSB to assist me with the proper structure of a resume and cover letter. Feeling unprepared and disappointed at myself about how I used my time while at UCSB, I fell into a minor depression. After every denial email from employers, my depression grew. However, it was one experience that truly shaped my job search perception. I applied to any and every job in the market and got the opportunity to interview for AT T for a clerk position. Going into the job interview I had high hopes because I knew I had the discipline. When I entered the office where the interview was being held, the hiring manager asked me a few questions about myself and then he stopped. He was looking over my resume and ... The Problem of God in Devils and The Brothers Karamazov In contemplating the creation of the novel The Idiot, Dostoyevsky wrote in a letter to A.N. Maikov that he hoped to focus the work around a question with which I have been tormented, consciously or unconsciously all my life that is, the existence of God. 1 Dostoyevsky s personal struggle with the question of faith, and also his own experience with trying doubts as a believer, are manifested in the characters he writes. His father was, though reverent, a drunk, and was later murdered by serfs on account of his inhumane treatment.6 This rougher sphere of his upbringing manifested itself in Dostoyevsky s early adulthood. He became involved in a group known as the Russian Utopian Socialists, influenced by Belinsky, a well known literary critic. The partnership formed by the two presumably shook Dostoyevsky s faith, as his revered mentor found that as a socialist, he had to destroy Christianity in the first place. He knew that the revolution must necessarily begin with atheism. 7 Later, though, Dostoyevsky broke off from the specific branch of the movement, forming the Durov circle. He was arrested for the circulation of a private letter full of insolent expressions against the Orthodox Church. 8 Evidently, he had forgotten his mother s teachings. • 8. The Role of Ambition in Macbeth The role of ambition in Macbeth The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare recounts Macbeth s meteoric rise as a soldier and promising future leader whose megalomaniacal ambition led to his tragic downfall. In addition to Macbeth s ambitions, which initially enable him to be strong leader and soldier, he is influenced heavily by his wife, Lady Macbeth, and the three witches that prophesize his ascent to the throne, as well as warn him of his eventual demise. It can be argued that it is Macbeth s ambition that allows him to succeed in his endeavors, however the goals to which he is working toward influence the results of his hard work. Macbeth s ambitions help him to become a war hero, and as his goals change, his ambitions drive him to become a tyrannical villain. At the beginning of the play, Macbeth and Banquo, Macbeth s friend and a sergeant in King Duncan s army, are hailed as heroes in helping to defeat Macdonwald who led the allied forces of Norway and Ireland against Scotland. The Sergeant exalts Macbeth s prowess and states, For brave Macbeth well he deserves that name Disdaining fortune, with his brandish d steel, Which smoked with bloody execution, Like valour s minion carved out his passage Till he faced the slave; Which ne er shook hands, nor bade farewell to him, Till he unseam d him from the nave to the chaps, And fix d his head upon our battlements. • 10. Racism In The Play Two Towns Of Jasper By Moises Kaufman Racism is a global problem where societies subject individuals with certain attributes that are judged as inferior or superior to special treatment [3]. Although its prevalence is waning off, this problem is very old. It would also be quite difficult to eradicate racism from our societies completely. This is due to the obvious variations in people s religion, color, geographic location, culture and economic factors such as social class [3]. Whereas eradication of racism might sound impossible, the society can make enormous achievement in curbing its influence on most of the world s communities. Moises Kaufman along with the Tectonic Theatre Project produced a play The Laramie Project between the years 2000 and 2002 [2]. Based on the murder of a student in Laramie city, the play ... Citizens of American, irrespective of their color have a right to live anywhere in the country and to exercise their liberty of interaction [1]. Differences in cultural values, perceptions and life priorities make it difficult for many communities to fight hatred and violence between their people. The media s participation raised awareness on how people from the two groups perceive each other but increased tension between them. • 13. How Homeschooling Should Be Banned Resolve that homeschooling should be banned. Imagine, you are a parent and you want the best education for your child. Which do you choose, a public school, or homeschooling? The answer is blatantly obvious, and I m here to tell you why. Firstly, you have to work to provide for YOURSELF, let alone a FAMILY. It takes $10.20 per hour to provide for yourself, now let s take that times the average family size. On average, a family has 2 parents and 2.5 children, so 4.5 people. So let s multiply that by the needed hourly wage. This gets us $45.90 an hour, which is a HUGE underestimate, (which means no extra luxuries, like having your children in sports) but we should just go with this number for simplicity. $45.90 an hour isn t a devastating number, as long as you have 2 working parents. But with homeschooling one parent will have to take off A LOT of work to off educate their children. So let s assume that you have 1.4 working parents with the average hourly wage (so one full time working parent and one that has to take off SIX TENTHS of their jobs) , and keep in mind this is generous for my opponent s side of the argument. This will give us, wait for it... only 23.39! This isn t even close to provide for a family, in fact that s only enough to provide for the parents! And yes, I do realize that this won t be a problem to all families. Some will be able to afford this with ease. Also this isn t a reason it should be banned, but rather a hindrance to a majority of families. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All in all, to those in charge, the cancellation of the event was about keeping innocent families out of harm s way, preventing a modern day Battle based on the historical one from occurring, and maintaining a civil status between the French and English in Quebec. Although the threats of violence from activist groups were the official reason given for the cancellation of the re enactment, there are speculations of other reasons as to why the federal body made this decision. With the announcement of re enacting the Battle on the Plains of Abraham came an overwhelming amount of negative feedback from Quebec residents, the reason being that the loss of the Battle began a traumatic period in history for the French. Economists at the University of California, Davis said that agriculture, once a $44 billion annual business in California, will suffer a financial hit of $2.2 billion due to revenue losses and higher water costs (Associated Press, 2014). Many farmers are going out of business because the production costs have increased with rising inflation, while revenue has decreased. Others have reduced their farmland plantations which decreases the crop production. Some of the affected crops include oranges, pistachios and rice. One example of how this affects the nation is the California almonds. California [is] the source of eighty percent of the world s almonds (Bloomberg, 2014). This year farmers had to come up with new tactics to rescue the nut from drought by diverting the water used for vegetables and drilling more water wells to keep the trees hydrated (Bloomberg, 2014). Farmers are not the only group of workers affected by the drought. Organic ranchers and dairy farmers in California also feel the effects of the drought. They rely on green pasture to feed their animals a healthy diet. Due to the lack of rain, the pasture are drying up and the ranchers have to purchase supplemental organic hay from other states. In an attempt to fund the purchasing of this out of state hay, the organic farmers are selling herds to businesses for hamburger meat and the small ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For centuries, the Middle East has been one of the most important, most argued about, and most fought over areas of the world. One reason for this is their strategic location. Since it lies at what many call the crossroads of three continents Europe, Asia and Africa people of these continents often had to cross through the Middle East to establish military and trade routes. The reputation of therapy is at stake, as clients begin to sue therapists for the implantation of false memories. In turn, it is essential that all clinicians conduct their therapy according to the latest guidelines of practice as to avoid suggestion and the possible implantation of false memories. In recent years there has been numerous cases of people suing their parents or other authority figures for abuse that has been recalled many years after the abuse was said to have occurred. The rulings in these cases have often been controversial considering there is often not enough concrete or collaborative evidence to prove the accused to be guilty or innocent. The judge and jury are often forced to make a ruling that relies heavily on the testimonial of the accuser. Ballet is the base of the dance as Bruce is primarily a Ballet choreographer. Contemporary is evident as flexed feet and bent arms and legs are seen throughout the performance. And Chilean folk dance can be seen in many sections of the dance with the civilians, as there are many quick movements of the feet and, as shown in the fourth section with the women, they do a movement throughout their section, which consists of change of direction with their arms out. The costumes that the dancers wear are also significant. The costume that the ghost dancers wear is based on the Native American legend of the Ghost Dance or Natdia. This spiritual dance was performed during the late 1880 s, when things were bad and the Native Americans needed something to give them hope. The dance reached its high point just before the Wounded Knee Massacre of 1890, where US soldiers opened fire and killed over 200 hundred Native Americans. They believed that performing the ghost dance would later reunite them with their ancestors along the line. The civilians costumes represented that of everyday people. A new cultural movement began to appear, known as the Renaissance, and the darkness of the medieval mind map was forever shattered, to remain a pale illusion. Humanists, such as Sir Thomas More and Desiderius Erasmus, and inventors and explorers such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Nicolas Copernicus, and Ferdinand Magellan guided the way to a new ideology of independent thinking. It must be applicable in slums where sanitation is absent. Without toilets, people resort to relieving themselves in plastic bags, which they throw as far away from their home as they can; a phenomenon known as flying toilets. In some areas, flying toilets have become a public health concern. Flying toilets are a common problem in urban areas like slums.
