Collegiate Seminar Essay
At Saint Mary s College, the Collegiate Seminar program is a uniquely designed program for students
to serve the College s goals for a liberal education [as it] strives to put students in possession of their
powers to think clearly, critically, and collaboratively, and articulate their ideas effectively powers that
will serve them for the rest of their lives. (SMC Seminar 104 Course Reader) As a requirement for
graduation, all students regardless of what discipline they are in must complete four courses of
seminar. A quite interesting kind of class as it integrates students from different kinds of discipline,
thus, attracting different kinds of perspectives, creating stimulating conversations about varying
topics. Unlike traditional teacher centered teaching, the Seminar program invites students to
interrogate texts and examine questions that are raised by both the text and the students through
stimulating discussions. Additionally, these discussions are meant to create an environment in which
the student and the seminar leader engage together in the pursuit of understanding. (stmarys

Glass Collection Procedure
Proper Collection and Preservation of Glass
Glass can be used to collect fingerprints and blood, however glass also can break into small fragments
and be very hard to find and they could be small fragments in hair, on skin, clothing, and lodged in
shoes. When you are collecting glass fragments be sure to not contaminate it by touching it with your
bare hands. When packaging glass you should put smaller glass fragments in a small paper packet, and
larger glass fragments should be packaged in paper or cardboard and then placed in a cardboard box to
prevent the glass from breaking any further, and representative samples should be submitted to the lab
for comparison. Trace examiners use magnification and light to find glass fragments on clothing ...

The Law Of The Land
The United States has been a country whose slogan is the Land of the Free . O, beautiful the patriot
dream a dream of those who wanted freedom and rights established in 1789. The United States has
since outlined its government, policy, and laws using the Constitution. This Constitution was first
signed by 39 delegates and created a foundation for which the country to abide by. Surely with 39
men, there were bound to be differing ideas on how to interpret this document. The way one interprets
it to make rulings can be classified into Judicial Philosophy and ideology. With this and the Judiciary
Branch, the United States can make well informed decisions on laws and statutes. Judicial Philosophy
is simply how one a judge understands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, when decisions boil down, there are nine justices that vote using their own Judicial Philosophy
and ideology. These are the supreme court justices. Each usually has either a conservative or liberal
ideology and base their theories accordingly. Ideally, all would have a conservative original intent
approach. This would allow restriction of federal overreach and eliminate the need of a mass of new
policies. The combined approach would keep the government similar to what the Founding Father s
had created. Undoubtedly, justices over the years have frequently looked to the intent of the framers
(E W 23). This creates more opportunities for individual states to create laws instead of a nationwide
policy. By participating in this approach, individual people would have more of an impact on the law
instead of few representatives. An example of a court that had this approach was the Rehnquist Court
that was in place 1986 2005 (SN). Rehnquist Court made decisions on protecting the framer s
intention based on text like the case Hustler Magazine v. Falwell (1988) which ended in protecting the
cartoonist as it was freedom of speech (E W 23 24). There are times when compromise needs to be
made. Admittingly, a larger central government is sometimes needed in order to aid its citizens.

Talk It Over Essay
Kunnikar Ngandee Chapter 1 : Globalization Talk it Over 1. Today, international business people must
think globally about production and sales opportunities. Many global managers will eventually find
themselves living and working in cultures altogether different from their own. Many entrepreneurs
will find themselves booking flights to places they had never heard of. What do you think companies
can do now to prepare their managers for these new markets? What can entrepreneurs and small
businesses with limited resources do? Answer I think what the companies should do is preparing their
entrepreneurs to learn more about national culture which is a strong shaper of people s values,

authority. On your first trip down to the docks to sigh for a shipment, the customs agent in charge asks
for a tip to clear the goods for pick up. The value of the incoming shipment is around $ 150,000.
Knowing that the government has recently launched an initiative to reduce corruption, how do you
react? If additional information would be helpful to you, what would it be? Answer I think I have to
give them a tip because in that country the bribery is relatively accepted, and I think they can make
my job easier. Moreover , the value of the incoming shipment is pretty high, it might have a damage
on my goods if I do not give them a tip because they might do not care about my shipment and I think
to give a tip for somebody is not a corruption, but it shows you are very appreciated in their jobs.

Taking a Look at Photographic Film
Photographic film A film can be defined as a material which is chemically reactive and when exposed
to a light source records a fixed or still image. In other words it helps in capturing the image of a the
photographed object, formed from the light reflecting back from its surface. Technically it is a
photographic material consisting of a celluloid base that is covered with a photographic emulsion that
is later used to make the negatives or the transparencies that maybe contained inside a roll, or maybe a
cassette or a cartridge. A film, when developed will produce transparent negatives. A negative film is a
photographic image that is formed on a narrow transparent strip of sheet whose surface is generally
made up of plastic or glass. It is a type of photographic image that shows the bright areas of the
subject photographed as dark and the dark areas of the subject as light. A negative film can be found in
all formats, and can be black and white or colour. A negative can produce a positive image when light
is made to pass through it. A positive image is actually a normal image while a negative image is a
total inversion were the light areas of the picture becomes dark and the dark as light. Hence a positive
is the final image. A positive can also be made directly from a film, like transparencies ( were a film is
processed to give a positive image directly rather than to give a negative ) what is it made up of film is

Examples Of Existentialism In The Blade Runner
Ethan Davis
Professor Lemenager
Philosophy 2513
26 September 2016
The Metaphysical Problem of Blade Runner Philosophy can be applied to numerous aspects of
existence and life. Existentialism is a popular type of dialogue in philosophy, and it is seen in many
current and past films. Film is a way to present philosophical problems to the general public without
them actually having to put much thought into it. And it is done in a way that entertains them, so
people will be thinking more hypothetically or theoretically than before. Metaphysics is branch of
philosophy and it deals with questions about the nature of reality and the nature of human reality.
Those questions are easily seen in the blade runner. The mind body problem and the problems of
artificial intelligence are also important problems in the blade runner. There are scenes where the the
audience is unsure if the main character, Harrison Ford, is really a human or a replicant himself. There
are also scenes where the replicants are unaware that they are in fact replicants. Of the many

The humans in the movie were just like we are, as were the replicants, just with their memories
implanted and only having a four year lifespan. It also made is seem that the humans know only
enough information to get their work done, like for example declare, he had a job of eliminating the
four replicants, period. That was his job, he got very little details about it. The replicate were made to
do the dirty, the slave work. But they also appeared to know more than they were designed to know, as
I don t think they were designed to know they only have a four year lifespan, that wouldn t make
much sense. And just like a human would knowing it had a limited amount of time left, the replicants
did what they could to give them more time. This is why I think they could potentially be called
humans, and not

Walker Evans
People, every day, are surrounded by architecture. Architecture is the careful planning, designing, and
construction of buildings (REF). Usually the architecture of a building accurately displays the culture
in which the building is located in. Although they are cultural symbols, they can also be perceived as
works of art. This perceived notion of art attracted artists of all different fields. Since the start of
photography, architectural photography was always a very common practice(REF). Three
photographers participated in architectural photography. These were Walker Evans, Albert Sands
Southworth, and Josiah Johnson Hawes. Although there were many differences in the formal elements
used between these photographers, a common theme can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The first of the formal elements he used was the use of cropping. In the photograph, Walker Evans
cropped out the background so the picture would only display the details of the building. This really
brought a strong focus on the intricacies of the building such as the brick layout and window design.
The framing was carefully manipulated in a way that the viewer cannot see either the street nor the top
of the building (MUS). One can conclude that this is because the mid portion of the building really
brought about the main theme of his photo. Most of the design may have been in the mid portion of
the building which really draws attention to the viewer s eye.
The second formal element that Walker Evans used was contrast. Walker Evans took the picture in
such a way that the angle of the sun created a dark shadow behind the windows of the building. Since
the picture was taken in such closed proximity, the contrast gave the photograph some depth. Without
the contrast created from the sun, the photo would have looked very flat. The sun also reflected on the
bricks of the building also creating some contrast within in the bricks giving them each their own

First Political Cartoon Analysis
It does not take a rocket scientist to know that America has been racist to almost every minority that
entered its shores. Heck, even the first Americans did get along with each other considering their
different religious beliefs and social customs. Regarding the chinese it was very obvious why they
were hated, they took our lovely jobs. What 10 men could do, a single chinese man would do just the
same. It would lead to them being heavily hated by Americans, and as well as other minority groups
they worked alongside with. The message was very clear that the chinese were not wanted in America.

Racial Discrimination Essay
They say the government mislead the youth? Tell them that there, is the truth... Throughout the 20th
century and continuing through the 21st century, the United States of America is now more diverse
than it has ever been. While being more diverse than previously, minorities are continuously being
portrayed as less than they are worth. Minorities have made significant strides towards equality in
American society. The three examples media persuades individuals perception of other ethnic groups
is through creating a perception that Caucasian is the standard beauty, misrepresentation of other
races, and favoritism towards certain races in films. A tactic that media uses is by pushing the idea that
being Caucasian is the standard of beauty. A prime example of the effect the media has on individuals
is, The Doll Test . The Doll Test is an experiment which was conducted by doctors Kenneth and
Mamie Clark in the 1940s. The experiment was conducted to study the psychological effects of
segregation on African American children. The Clarks took a group of children between the ages of
three and seven, and gave them two different dolls, which were identical except for their skin color
goal of the experiment was to use four dolls which were identical excluding its skin color, to test
children s racial perceptions. The Doctors then asked the following questions, Which doll is good? and
Which doll is prettier? and Which do you want to play with? This experiment brought the idea of

Sustaining technologies improve the products and services which help in achieving the same result but
in a better way. This helps the customers to understand the value of improvement. Sustaining
technologies are easier to use in already established firms than in new emerging firms. They focus on
improved quality and refine service over the period of time which leads to increase in cost but is
justifiable. Disruptive Technologies Disruptive technologies are the ones that bring different value
preposition to the market. They are usually cheaper and underperform the products in mainstream
markets. Being cheaper, disruptive technologies are also simpler, smaller and more convenient to use
too. They are usually technologically straight forward and capture emerging markets. As disruptive
technologies improve faster, this serves as a danger to established firms because they are so rapid that
by the time you know about them, they have had already grown up and are cheaper and better than
other competitors in the market. Principles of Disruptive Innovations The author have offered five
principles which would help the managers and entrepreneurs to deal with disruptive technologies. 1.
Companies depend on customers and investors for resources. Customers and investors are company s
value network and the companies make their decisions on the basis of their value network. Disruptive
technologies come up with different value, so the existing customers who are generally

Obligation In The Middle Ages
The idea of the three orders directly illustrates that mutual obligation was an important part of
medieval life, and it does so in several different ways. The three orders are those who pray, those who
fight, and those who work. Through mutual obligation, the people on each side of the bargain get
something in return. But, even though each person gets something in return, it doesn t mean that what
they receive is always amazing. The main system for medieval society was the system of allegiance
between vassals and their lords, however it only refers to one of the three orders of medieval society.
One of the three orders is those who prayed. Those who prayed were obligated to devote their lives to
prayer and to the Church. They were usually monks, cardinals, priests, nuns, and other members of the
clergy. Those who prayed were also responsible for the well being of all Christians in Europe. In
return for their services, these members of the clergy, etc. were protected and allowed to live on the
lord s land. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those who fought were obligated to provide military services to their lord and protect those who
worked and lived on the land. Those who fought were the vassals, dukes, the lesser nobility, and
knights. They were responsible for handling any threats and fighting that occurred on their lords lands.
In return for their service, these knights, etc. received fiefs. Fiefs are grants of land from a lord. These
knights, etc. also became vassals of the lord because when you receive a fief, you swear your
allegiance to this lord and become a vassal. Although, there was an error that caused many problems
with this system. This error was that knights and vassals could swear their allegiance to many different
lords, which made for complicated relationships when it came to fighting. Those who fought were the
backbone of medieval

Over the last decade, while the U.S. based Eastman Kodak Company was sleeping, the Japanese firm
Fuji Photo Film opened its first film production plant in the U.S., cut prices, marketed aggressively
and stole valuable market share. Kodak maintains that it will not engage in a price war to win
customers back, due to potential profit erosion. The inroads that Fuji has made in the U.S. market will
certainly continue their momentum. They (Kodak) are competing against an extremely determined,
extremely proficient and extremely well financed company in Fuji, says Michael Ellman, who tracks
Kodak for Schroder Company.3 What then, begs the question, is Kodak to do? Many analysts are
demanding that Kodak s CEO George Fisher take drastic action to cut costs, reduce debt and right the
sinking ship.
THE CHANGING CUSTOMER The dynamics within the photo industry have changed dramatically
within the past 15 years. Once upon a time, the film industry within the United States was basically
stable and predictable, with industry leader Eastman Kodak, a US based company headquartered in
Rochester, N.Y., having a commanding share of the industry, hovering between 80 to 90%.4 No

Innate Pathogens
Pathogens and parasites are very dangerous and lethal to not only vertebrate species such as animals,
but invertebrate species like insects as well. Insects have to heavily rely on their innate immune
system, which is an immediate response in quickly destroying invaders (Alberts et al 2002). Melanism
is a key response to insects innate defenses that serves many functions like improving fitness. Melanin
darkens the insects cuticle, which is facilitated by the enzyme phenoloxidase that converts dopamine

Clear Lake Dental Care
People don t usually think of the dentist as the health care professional to see for chronic headaches
and migraines. Yet dentists are often instrumental in diagnosing and treating many cases of recurring
headaches. This is because a number of recurring pains in the head, neck, jaw, and face are caused by
conditions in the mouth and the rest of the craniofacial area. For example, recurring pain in the
temples on the sides of the head are usually caused by teeth grinding or clenching. In some cases,
misalignment in the teeth or jaw area can put pressure in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ, also
called the jaw joint) and lead to pain. If you experience frequent migraines and headaches, head and
neck pain, and popping or clicking sounds when you open or close your mouth, consult your dentist in

Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry Essay examples
Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry
Benjamin Franklin once said that there were only two inevitable things in life: death and taxes. He got
it half right. They did, in fact, die with pretty regular certainty. However, what was inevitable was sex.
Without it, there wouldn t be any new people to die and poor Ben Franklin would have been
completely wrong. The only hindrance to this certainty was (and remains) virgins. The realm of the
chaste has been explored in poetry throughout time, but never was the subject as thoroughly probed as
in the 17th and 18th century. To judge by the poets of the time, one would conclude that next to dying

Again, the virtue itself is not exactly being praised so much as being alluded to as a component of
something good.
The women also had their say. In Katherine Phillips s A Married State (1679), the many advantages of
a life of chastity are listed. Phillips says A virgin s state is crowned with much content; / It s always
happy as it s innocent. In addition to innocence, Phillips points out that there are no grouchy husbands,
no screaming children and nothing else to distract you from your service to God. In fact, wistful
women wishing they d kept their virginity and wedding vows to themselves wrote many poems in this
era. It is a telling social commentary that so many married women would wish themselves back to live
a life of chaste penitence than to enter into so called wedded bliss.
The most common theme in virginity poems is that of men trying to get women to change their minds
and go to bed with them. Many poets tried to use persuasion on their objects of desire. In Robert
Herrick s To the Virgins to Make Much of Time, the well known first line Gather ye rosebuds while ye
may appears. This poem is an appeal to virtuous women to use it while they ve got it, per se. In the
proud tradition of soldiers who will be sent off tomorrow who just know they aren t coming back and
hedonists everywhere, Herrick emphasizes that time is short and virgins are wasting their youths

Conscription During WWI
Time Ameliorates Lingual Wounds
Differences of belief between different ethnic, cultural, and racial groups are undoubtedly the biggest
contributor to disputes within the history of the world. WWI started due to a disagreement between
Austria and Hungary, and WWII started because Hitler s beliefs differed from those of the Jewish.
Despite being one of the most accepting countries in the world, Canada is no exception. Since
confederation, there have always been constant disputes between different groups of Canadians,
mainly the French and English community residing in Canada. Although both groups belong to the
same nation, discord arose mainly due to language barriers and different backgrounds. This being said,

During the 1960s, the Quiet Revolution occurred in Canada, a struggle in regards to French Canadians
becoming integrated into Canadian society. It was also during this time that many notable separatist
movements emerged from the depths of Quebec, including the Parti Québécois and the Bloc
Québécois. The Bloc Québécois began as a leftist movement but quickly grew into a party by 1963;
similarly, the Parti Québécois was formed in 1968. They mainly gained support because French
Canadians believed their rights were being compromised by English Canadians. Krueger states in
Encyclopedia Britannica, French Canadian nationalists favoured some form of enhanced status for
Quebec: special status within confederation, a new form of association on the basis of equality with
English Canada, or complete independence as a sovereign country. On November 15, 1976, the Parti
Québécois finally came into power in Quebec. Despite coming very close to separating over the years
with a vote turnout of 49.4 to 50.6 in 1991, the Parti Québécois never managed to truly fulfill its
purpose of separating from Canada. This was in part due to new language rights introduced to Canada
and Chrétian s persistent attempts to keep

Many young people aspire to become an LSU Tiger. Some of them aim to become a Louisiana State

This was an enormous opportunity for Claire and her squad. Once they entered the doors of the
football field, her nervousness subdued itself. Feelings of excitement overwhelmed her. All of her
other emotions went away. It was as if the thousands of people in the stands disappeared and I was the
only one in that field, Claire said; she could barely contain herself in her seat.
Once the music began, I was fortunate enough to hit every beat. It was amazing. My cheer coach was
extremely proud of my whole squad. I was proud of myself as well. As Claire stated this, her eyes
seemed to light up with joy.
After that moment was over, Claire decided right there and then at that moment that she would one
day attend Louisiana State University. Who knew that one day would change my life forever? One day
I could may become a Tiger myself and maybe an LSU cheerleader on top of that.
Although Claire was already passionate about being a cheerleader, that day her love for the sport

this to try to give others the same chance that she was blessed enough to receive. She will always be

Reflections on Society in Literary Works
In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s I Only Came to Use the Phone and William Golding s Lord of the Flies
characters experience dehumanization through isolation from society. While some might believe that
Marquez and Golding use the trapped characters actions to criticize society, it they are actually doing
the opposite. All immoral behavior done by characters in these literary works are done in the absence
of society, showing that the authors are actually portraying society as the stabilizing element of our
morality, and the structure of our humanization. Without society, for characters like Maria, Jack,
Roger and Ralph, the essence of humanity is lost and the line between man and beast blurred. In the
beginning of both stories there is still a great presence of society. In Lord of the Flies, directly after the
plane crash the boys set up a mini society on the island. The vote for a leader and choose Ralph, much
like we do in society today. The text even states that This toy of voting was almost as pleasing as the
conch. (Golding, 22) This of course shows how the boys crave and choose structure and civility over
chaos and anarchy... at first. Voting is something that we do in a democratic society and the conch
itself is a symbol of democracy and order. Both of these things please the boys, which demonstrate
that the structure of society is keeping them human and civilized. In the beginning of I Only Came to
Use the Phone the main character, Maria is torn away from society

Essay on Attending High School
High School
Do you remember your high school days? High school
for me has proved to be a learning experience and also a
challenge. There are many lessons that can be learned.
You can learn more about yourself, who your friends are,
what kind of help is offered to you, and what your
strengths and your weaknesses are. Attending
High School helped build my confidence because my
classmates were supportive, my teachers taught me how to
study for tests, and the math tutors helped me overcome
my fear of math.
My classmates were supportive in many ways. I used
to attend study groups for the subjects that I was

Most students would wait until the last
minute to study and try to cram all the information on a
test in one night. But my teachers stressed that studying
a little bit at a time would be the best way to go about
learning the material. Another way they tried to provoke
studying would be by telling us to study in a group.
This method worked, but the method that I found that
helped me the most was by using flash cards. It was a
good way of studying especially for a test that had lots
of definitions on it. But I found it much easier to look at
a single piece of information instead of a whole page of
notes at one time. Overall, teachers do not just teach you
the facts from the books. They can help you sharpen your
study skills by showing you new ways of learning.
Lastly, the tutors at the school helped me to overcome my
biggest fear and that was math. They helped me realize
that if you take math one step at a time, it will be a
lot easier than trying to learn it all at once. The
tutors also made it easier for me by teaching me to
relate math to something I enjoy. A simple example would be
if you were having problems with percents. And they would
tell you to relate it to something like when you go shopping
and clothes have a certain discount. It carries the same
principle. And this method can help you overcome a fear

Retrograde Amnesia In The Movie Memento
Memory Movie Review (Answers/ Responses)
A 1. Within the movie Memento , the type of memory loss the main character, Leonard, in this movie
was suffering, is most likely anterograde amnesia the inability to form new Memories[1] due to him
within the movie not being able to recall what has happened an hour after, in sequence of events in the
films story. I would also argue that Leonard has retrograde amnesia unable to remember some or all of
their past, especially episodic memories for recent events[2] which could be supported with the fact
when he was questioned by Teddy, about his and his wife s past showing in the movie he has doubt
and no solid assurance of the past as he feels that he remembers it in two different ways.
A 2. Retrieval Cue, is a clue, prompt, or hint that can help trigger recall of a stored memory[3] . I feel
that Retrieval Cues are important in the function of long term memory as the opposite retrieval cue
failure, which refers to the inability to recall long term memories because of inadequate or missing
retrieval cues.[4] shows that not having, or having a failure in retrieval cues can cause no
remembrance of the past, therefore having trouble with memory in general which is seen throughout
the film, Memento, in the struggles Leonard had, trying to recognize his situation, what is he doing
and why?
A 3. The theories of forgetting include :

Interdisciplinary Care And Collaboration Analysis
The Importance of Interdisciplinary Care and Collaboration
Have you ever wondered what makes corporations successful? Have you ever asked yourself if by
giving the best of your effort as an employee, you could be a key piece to the success of your team?
Steve Jobs was so right to say Great things in business are never done by one person. They are done
by a team of people (Whiting, 2013) and the medical field is not the exception. Interdisciplinary care
and team collaboration are based on building great teamwork, maintaining alive the principles of
collaboration, and minimizing the barriers in coordination of care. (Scott, 2014)

necessary changes, we will lose the great opportunity to become the catalysts of the future
improvements in the healthcare system. Al we need is some type of action in the right direction, and as
long as we build great teamwork, maintain alive the principles of collaboration, and minimize the

Bridget Jones Analysis
Bridget Jones chronicles a year of her life via diary entries in Helen Fielding s book, justly titled
Bridget Jones Diary. The first person narrative entitles readers to Bridget s inner workings. Buried
inside we find something much darker than her hapless yet cheery blonde exterior would suggest
calorie counting compulsions, daily weigh ins, ruminations about her romance life, and much more.
Though blunt and revealing, Fielding s account of a 32 year old singleton s life fails to subvert the
woes its readership, and very own protagonist, face. Small advances on the frontline of feminism are
made, but mostly, the message of the novel remains as unchanged as Bridget does come the end of the
year. The message is of feminine upkeep, romantic pursuit, and ultimately, self neglect. Bridget shows
a contempt for mainstream beautification rituals, but ultimately, she submits to them in the name of
keeping up appearances. Prior to a date with her prized boss, Daniel, Bridget takes extreme measures,
presumably primping her body for hours: I have nearly slipped a disc, wheezing through a step
aerobics class, scratched my naked body for seven minutes with a stiff brush; cleaned the flat; filled
the fridge, plucked my eyebrows, skimmed the papers and the Ultimate Sex Guide, put the washing in
and waxed my own legs... (52). Her detailed account seethes with annoyance, but Bridget nonetheless
feels compelled to emulate what she sees in the pages of Cosmopolitan. Briefly, Bridget does

Essay about A Partial Rememberance of a Puerto Rican...
In A Partial Remembrance of a Puerto Rican Childhood, Judith Cofer accomplishes three powerful
achievements: she gives details on the stories of her family experiences, shows her family stories in a
strong imaginative language, and points out how family stories can take over a person s life. This
essay seems to be very tricky because she goes from one story to another. Cofer s claim would be very
difficult to understand if she started with one story; instead, she should finish explaining the initial
story before moving on to the next one. Instead, Cofer shows how a woman can potentially go crazy if
her man mistreats her.

This is why Cofer explains women would be together, so they can listen to each other s problems.
Later, they talk about her grandfather instead of discussing how women are supposed to tell their
stories. At the end of paragraph, the author concludes with this room was furnished with several
mahogany rocking chairs, and carved rocker that passed down to Mama at the death of her mother
(66). The women sitting in the room with rocking chairs, tell stories to each other about their mothers.
The chairs are passed down from previous generations. I think Cofer wants the present generation to
learn about the previous generation to pass on to the future generation. In paragraph 3, she gives us a
good example how a man could leave a girl standing at the church altar with a bouquet of fresh
flowers in her hands and disappear off the face of the earth (67). Men seem to make wrong decisions
by leaving a girl behind and don t care what will or may happen to the girl. Men are tired of female
drama, so she decides to leave it all behind him. In Paragraph 5, she explains how marriage was not
something men would hope for but to pay for privilege of children (67). Men don t care if they find
the right women for marriage as long the women can produce children for them. Men don t want to
settle down for only one woman but many women. She wants people to find out their hidden identity
in the future. Kate married at the age of 17;

Example Of Cooperative Learning
Cooperative learning is a very distinguished strategy in the educational world. Cooperative learning is
used by teachers to help children develop positive social behaviors. With this strategy, children are
able to work together so they can learn from one another. Although this strategy is all about the
children, teachers must make cooperative learning experiences structured to mirror society s
expectations and to encourage positive behavior outcomes for young children . For example, if
children are playing in the kitchen center, I would encourage them to pretend like they re in a
restaurant. Some children would be placing the orders and the others would be working at the
restaurant. I feel like this specific example would teach the children that are being the customers to be
patient and understanding with all employees. I also think that this example would give the children
who are the workers a better understanding of what happens in a restaurant. When they re working in
the kitchen, they will be able to see how hard it is to work in the food industry. In turn, this would help
them also become patient and understanding adults. In addition to developing positive social
behaviors, this strategy also helps children build self esteem and promotes the acceptance of others.
When children work with other children, they will be able to connect and understand children are who
different from them. Working with children who are different from them will allow them to better

Western Civilization Essay
Western Civilization: Beginnings to Present Although Western culture has been defined by both
Christian and secular values across the course of time, the West s primary goal is to achieve economic
supremacy, using Christian and secular philosophies, as well as colonization and technological
innovation as means to achieve this goal. Of the features that define western culture, the most unique
is democracy. Originating in ancient Athens, democracy created a sense of pride in one s government
which, in later centuries, would evolve into nationalism. In Athens, democracy allowed the people to
have a say in their government, furthering the unification of their empire and thus strengthening it.

emperor Constantine saw that it would be more beneficial to stop persecuting the Christians and

spread throughout the European continent and Emperor Theodosius established it as the official
religion of Rome in 380. This proved especially beneficial for the empire as it allowed Rome to be
governed during its greatest extent. When Rome official fell in 476 to the barbaric tribes of the
Germanic region, Christianity was the uniting factor as the chaos of local groups sought to hold
power. Out of this developed a complex feudal system comprised of lords, vassals, and serfs along
with the power and wealth of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church demanded enormous amounts
of money from the people as they sought redemption in times stricken with the Black Death and
famine thus allowing the monasteries to emerge as the source of riches and the Church as the largest
landholder in all of Europe. As the Church s power grew towards the first millennia, and had sucked
the wealth from nearly all of its local citizens, they desired to find the holy land. Despite the first

were some of the bloodiest battles in European history. These crusades, although against Christian

The s Petitions Of Yahweh, The Enthroned King Of The Cosmos
So when they had come together, they asked him, Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to
Israel? (Acts 1:6) . The disciples, knowing the instruction of Jesus to pray Your Kingdom come (Matt
6:10) expected that the resurrected Christ would finally bring the reign of God to earth, restoring the
kingdom of Israel and fulfilling prophecy. This hope was not something of fantasy or a far fetched
thought, but something that had been the desire of Israel for centuries; the desire for Yahweh, the
defender of the weak, the oppressed and the afflicted to answer prayers of deliverance offered by the
ani which would liberate them from their oppressors and bring justice, and just rule to a natural realm
marred by the presence of injustice. Jesus instruction to pray for the coming of the kingdom is a
petition that can be found all throughout the Psalter. This essay will outline the psalmist s petitions of
Yahweh, the enthroned King of the cosmos, to deliver and vindicate Israel, bringing vengeance, and
judgment on their enemies. It will also explore how much of modern Christianity interprets the very
same words of Jesus and show the necessity of these petitions in the church today.

China s Growth As A Foreign Power
China s growth as a foreign power is shifting the dynamics of global relations. It can be theorized that
China as a growing influence poses a danger to middle powers economically, diplomatically and

powers as players in global politics. Particularly, focusing on the motivations of middle power states
and their reactions, changes in foreign or domestic policy, to China growing as an economically,
politically, and militarily strong nation. This report will discuss the ways in which the collection of

argued that with the growth of China as a foreign power, middle powers begin to feel threatened and

Middle power nations essentially possess capabilities slightly inferior to that of great powers, such as

The typical behaviour that has come to be expected of middle powers is that their role in the political

connections between the developed and developing worlds . Their situation politically and

What are the common objections to the traditional understanding of Christology, and how do you

Some objections were it being a philosophical idea than it being historical revelation. Another was that
there is no divine production of the world or there being three different people but as a union. There s
another one saying that Jesus didn t fully become man and didn t have the true things of man. How I
would respond to this is by starting off with saying yes it is true that He didn t fully become man, but
He still have all things that man have reason is because He would not be able to come to save our

Earth which raised the idea of it being flat. This was by looking at the curvature of the planet s
surface over a considerable length; how much does the Earth deviate (on average) from perfect
flatness.
The flat Earth theory would make it seem that the surface doesn t deviate from flatness at all, that its
curvature is 0 per mile. The actual curvature of the Earth is on average 0.000126 per mile (being it not
perfectly spherical), a quantity very close to 0 per mile, and certainly not easily measured by the
equipment used by the ancients. The very small difference accounts for the fact to why it took so long
to pass from the flat Earth to the round Earth. It is also however essential not to discard this scientific
evidence as the Earth could not be mapped over large areas without extreme accuracy, and long
voyages can t be undertaken with any reasonable way of locating one s own position unless the Earth
is
considered round rather than flat. Hence, although the flat Earth theory is only slightly wrong in small
dimensions, it is enough to be discarded in favour of the round Earth theory.
As previously stated, not all theories have an absolute right or wrong , however, is there such an

  • 2. Collegiate Seminar Essay At Saint Mary s College, the Collegiate Seminar program is a uniquely designed program for students to serve the College s goals for a liberal education [as it] strives to put students in possession of their powers to think clearly, critically, and collaboratively, and articulate their ideas effectively powers that will serve them for the rest of their lives. (SMC Seminar 104 Course Reader) As a requirement for graduation, all students regardless of what discipline they are in must complete four courses of seminar. A quite interesting kind of class as it integrates students from different kinds of discipline, thus, attracting different kinds of perspectives, creating stimulating conversations about varying topics. Unlike traditional teacher centered teaching, the Seminar program invites students to interrogate texts and examine questions that are raised by both the text and the students through stimulating discussions. Additionally, these discussions are meant to create an environment in which the student and the seminar leader engage together in the pursuit of understanding. • 4. The Law Of The Land The United States has been a country whose slogan is the Land of the Free . O, beautiful the patriot dream a dream of those who wanted freedom and rights established in 1789. The United States has since outlined its government, policy, and laws using the Constitution. This Constitution was first signed by 39 delegates and created a foundation for which the country to abide by. Surely with 39 men, there were bound to be differing ideas on how to interpret this document. The way one interprets it to make rulings can be classified into Judicial Philosophy and ideology. With this and the Judiciary Branch, the United States can make well informed decisions on laws and statutes. Judicial Philosophy is simply how one a judge understands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now, when decisions boil down, there are nine justices that vote using their own Judicial Philosophy and ideology. These are the supreme court justices. Each usually has either a conservative or liberal ideology and base their theories accordingly. Ideally, all would have a conservative original intent approach. This would allow restriction of federal overreach and eliminate the need of a mass of new policies. The combined approach would keep the government similar to what the Founding Father s had created. Undoubtedly, justices over the years have frequently looked to the intent of the framers (E W 23). This creates more opportunities for individual states to create laws instead of a nationwide policy. By participating in this approach, individual people would have more of an impact on the law instead of few representatives. An example of a court that had this approach was the Rehnquist Court that was in place 1986 2005 (SN). Rehnquist Court made decisions on protecting the framer s intention based on text like the case Hustler Magazine v. Falwell (1988) which ended in protecting the cartoonist as it was freedom of speech (E W 23 24). There are times when compromise needs to be made. In other words it helps in capturing the image of a the photographed object, formed from the light reflecting back from its surface. Technically it is a photographic material consisting of a celluloid base that is covered with a photographic emulsion that is later used to make the negatives or the transparencies that maybe contained inside a roll, or maybe a cassette or a cartridge. A film, when developed will produce transparent negatives. A negative film is a photographic image that is formed on a narrow transparent strip of sheet whose surface is generally made up of plastic or glass. It is a type of photographic image that shows the bright areas of the subject photographed as dark and the dark areas of the subject as light. A negative film can be found in all formats, and can be black and white or colour. A negative can produce a positive image when light is made to pass through it. A positive image is actually a normal image while a negative image is a total inversion were the light areas of the picture becomes dark and the dark as light. Hence a positive is the final image. Examples Of Existentialism In The Blade Runner Ethan Davis Professor Lemenager Philosophy 2513 26 September 2016 The Metaphysical Problem of Blade Runner Philosophy can be applied to numerous aspects of existence and life. Existentialism is a popular type of dialogue in philosophy, and it is seen in many current and past films. Film is a way to present philosophical problems to the general public without them actually having to put much thought into it. And it is done in a way that entertains them, so people will be thinking more hypothetically or theoretically than before. Metaphysics is branch of philosophy and it deals with questions about the nature of reality and the nature of human reality. Those questions are easily seen in the blade runner. The mind body problem and the problems of artificial intelligence are also important problems in the blade runner. Usually the architecture of a building accurately displays the culture in which the building is located in. Although they are cultural symbols, they can also be perceived as works of art. This perceived notion of art attracted artists of all different fields. Since the start of photography, architectural photography was always a very common practice(REF). The first of the formal elements he used was the use of cropping. In the photograph, Walker Evans cropped out the background so the picture would only display the details of the building. This really brought a strong focus on the intricacies of the building such as the brick layout and window design. The framing was carefully manipulated in a way that the viewer cannot see either the street nor the top of the building (MUS). One can conclude that this is because the mid portion of the building really brought about the main theme of his photo. Most of the design may have been in the mid portion of the building which really draws attention to the viewer s eye. The second formal element that Walker Evans used was contrast. Walker Evans took the picture in such a way that the angle of the sun created a dark shadow behind the windows of the building. Since the picture was taken in such closed proximity, the contrast gave the photograph some depth. Without the contrast created from the sun, the photo would have looked very flat. The main system for medieval society was the system of allegiance between vassals and their lords, however it only refers to one of the three orders of medieval society. One of the three orders is those who prayed. Those who prayed were obligated to devote their lives to prayer and to the Church. Without it, there wouldn t be any new people to die and poor Ben Franklin would have been completely wrong. The only hindrance to this certainty was (and remains) virgins. The realm of the chaste has been explored in poetry throughout time, but never was the subject as thoroughly probed as in the 17th and 18th century. Reflections on Society in Literary Works In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s I Only Came to Use the Phone and William Golding s Lord of the Flies characters experience dehumanization through isolation from society. While some might believe that Marquez and Golding use the trapped characters actions to criticize society, it they are actually doing the opposite. All immoral behavior done by characters in these literary works are done in the absence of society, showing that the authors are actually portraying society as the stabilizing element of our morality, and the structure of our humanization. Without society, for characters like Maria, Jack, Roger and Ralph, the essence of humanity is lost and the line between man and beast blurred. In the beginning of both stories there is still a great presence of society. In Lord of the Flies, directly after the plane crash the boys set up a mini society on the island. There are many lessons that can be learned. You can learn more about yourself, who your friends are, what kind of help is offered to you, and what your strengths and your weaknesses are. Attending High School helped build my confidence because my classmates were supportive, my teachers taught me how to study for tests, and the math tutors helped me overcome my fear of math. It was a good way of studying especially for a test that had lots of definitions on it. But I found it much easier to look at a single piece of information instead of a whole page of notes at one time. Overall, teachers do not just teach you the facts from the books. They can help you sharpen your study skills by showing you new ways of learning. Lastly, the tutors at the school helped me to overcome my biggest fear and that was math. They helped me realize that if you take math one step at a time, it will be a lot easier than trying to learn it all at once. The tutors also made it easier for me by teaching me to relate math to something I enjoy. A simple example would be if you were having problems with percents. And they would tell you to relate it to something like when you go shopping and clothes have a certain discount. It carries the same principle. And this method can help you overcome a fear ... • 28. Retrograde Amnesia In The Movie Memento Memory Movie Review (Answers/ Responses) A 1. Within the movie Memento , the type of memory loss the main character, Leonard, in this movie was suffering, is most likely anterograde amnesia the inability to form new Memories[1] due to him within the movie not being able to recall what has happened an hour after, in sequence of events in the films story. I would also argue that Leonard has retrograde amnesia unable to remember some or all of their past, especially episodic memories for recent events[2] which could be supported with the fact when he was questioned by Teddy, about his and his wife s past showing in the movie he has doubt and no solid assurance of the past as he feels that he remembers it in two different ways. • 30. Bridget Jones Analysis Bridget Jones chronicles a year of her life via diary entries in Helen Fielding s book, justly titled Bridget Jones Diary. The first person narrative entitles readers to Bridget s inner workings. Buried inside we find something much darker than her hapless yet cheery blonde exterior would suggest calorie counting compulsions, daily weigh ins, ruminations about her romance life, and much more. Though blunt and revealing, Fielding s account of a 32 year old singleton s life fails to subvert the woes its readership, and very own protagonist, face. Small advances on the frontline of feminism are made, but mostly, the message of the novel remains as unchanged as Bridget does come the end of the year. The message is of feminine upkeep, romantic pursuit, and ultimately, self neglect. Bridget shows a contempt for mainstream beautification rituals, but ultimately, she submits to them in the name of keeping up appearances. Prior to a date with her prized boss, Daniel, Bridget takes extreme measures, presumably primping her body for hours: I have nearly slipped a disc, wheezing through a step aerobics class, scratched my naked body for seven minutes with a stiff brush; cleaned the flat; filled the fridge, plucked my eyebrows, skimmed the papers and the Ultimate Sex Guide, put the washing in and waxed my own legs... In A Partial Remembrance of a Puerto Rican Childhood, Judith Cofer accomplishes three powerful achievements: she gives details on the stories of her family experiences, shows her family stories in a strong imaginative language, and points out how family stories can take over a person s life. This essay seems to be very tricky because she goes from one story to another. Cofer s claim would be very difficult to understand if she started with one story; instead, she should finish explaining the initial story before moving on to the next one. Cooperative learning is used by teachers to help children develop positive social behaviors. With this strategy, children are able to work together so they can learn from one another. Although this strategy is all about the children, teachers must make cooperative learning experiences structured to mirror society s expectations and to encourage positive behavior outcomes for young children . For example, if children are playing in the kitchen center, I would encourage them to pretend like they re in a restaurant. Some children would be placing the orders and the others would be working at the restaurant. I feel like this specific example would teach the children that are being the customers to be patient and understanding with all employees. I also think that this example would give the children who are the workers a better understanding of what happens in a restaurant. When they re working in the kitchen, they will be able to see how hard it is to work in the food industry. In turn, this would help them also become patient and understanding adults. Originating in ancient Athens, democracy created a sense of pride in one s government which, in later centuries, would evolve into nationalism. This proved especially beneficial for the empire as it allowed Rome to be governed during its greatest extent. • 36. The s Petitions Of Yahweh, The Enthroned King Of The Cosmos So when they had come together, they asked him, Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel? (Acts 1:6) . The disciples, knowing the instruction of Jesus to pray Your Kingdom come (Matt 6:10) expected that the resurrected Christ would finally bring the reign of God to earth, restoring the kingdom of Israel and fulfilling prophecy. This hope was not something of fantasy or a far fetched thought, but something that had been the desire of Israel for centuries; the desire for Yahweh, the defender of the weak, the oppressed and the afflicted to answer prayers of deliverance offered by the ani which would liberate them from their oppressors and bring justice, and just rule to a natural realm marred by the presence of injustice. Jesus instruction to pray for the coming of the kingdom is a petition that can be found all throughout the Psalter. This essay will outline the psalmist s petitions of Yahweh, the enthroned King of the cosmos, to deliver and vindicate Israel, bringing vengeance, and judgment on their enemies. It will also explore how much of modern Christianity interprets the very same words of Jesus and show the necessity of these petitions in the church today.
