I Attended University Dance Theatre
I attended University Dance Theatre over the weekend, and after just recently becoming interested in
dance and appreciating dance as an art form I was excited to watch a live dance performance. There

The Cow Cavalry were small militia groups formed to protect the inner part of Florida. The small
groups were made up of ranchers and cowhands. Union soldiers would hold raids to capture the cattle
and the Navy union would conduct raids across the coast to destroy the salt works plants, and
eventually capture or force the abandonment of Fort Myers. The whole point of the Cow Cavalry was
to protect the cattle, salt works, and small towns in south Florida. By 1863 Florida had become the
primary source of beef for confederate troops defending Charleston. The fall of Vicksburg and the

The Cow Cavalry consisted of 800 men and was from Fort Myers all the way to Georgia. They
patrolled 300 miles of dusty trails and open ranges and they enabled cattle drivers to be renewed. By
February of 1865 the Cow Cavalry was so successful that there was rumors that the union would soon
abandon Fort Myers. Major William Footman decided he wanted to give the 300 northerners a push by
