Ethnic Makeup Of Los Angeles
Since 1965 many people have immigrated to the greater Los Angeles area than anywhere within the
United States. These immigrants have rapidly and profoundly transformed the city s ethnic makeup
and spared heated debate over their impact on the region. Unfortunately within many areas of Los
Angeles there are those who have been pushed out of their homes, which have been passed through
generations of ethnic minorities in other areas due to gentrification. These gentrified areas have been
renovated by the city to allow for a much more comfortable living experience. One specific way this
has happened is by allowing an ease of access to mainstream markets that provide necessary measures
for their lifestyle. However those of this community are not the only communities that wish to adhere
to this lifestyle. Many Angelinos, although living within a community that is seen as poor and
unhealthy, actually care about the food that they put within their bodies. The resources that are readily
available in the gentrified location in Los Angeles, but not to other parts force them to eat from local
markets and convenience stores close where the quality is unhealthy. Organic, non gmo, and foods that
do not contain MSG are solely confined to stores within areas where people which money has moved
to. These markets consist of mainstream grocers, grocery stores where there is an availability of fresh
foods, which can support a healthy diet on a regular basis. It is not an issue they have

The Inner Workings Of Evolution And Natural Selection
Evidence
Investigate the inner workings of pluricellular evolution, cell shape and function, as well as how cells
survive and multiply. This is an essential question to consider and elaborate on when trying to prove
the topic of evolution. Evolution will be proven hereby by elaborating on the inner workings of the
Endosymbiotic theory, Multicellular evolution and Natural selection, along with Cell specialization,
replacement and Differentiation.
The Endosymbiotic theory is an assumption based on experience and/or limited information about the
evolution of the cell. Bacteria are one of the oldest single cellular organisms. They began to make
their own food using photosynthesis which then produced enough oxygen to reshape Earth s
atmosphere. This change brought upon diverse bacterial life which include clear evidence that
chloroplasts and mitochondria were, at one point, crude bacterial cells. Over the years, chloroplasts
and mitochondria became dependent on a host cell. After millions of years of evolution, chloroplasts
and mitochondria cannot survive outside of the cell. This is the Endosymbiotic theory. Although this is
labeled a theory, there is striking evidence that shows similarities in both bacteria, and mitochondria
and chloroplasts. They all have their own DNA (separate from the nucleus), and they both use this
DNA to produce proteins and enzymes for their functions.
Multicellular evolution has reshaped Earth s ecology and is incredibly critical in the

Working At Tacobell With A White Picket Fence
Jobs I ve Held
I want to live the American Dream. I have the wife, but I also want the two children and the house
with a white picket fence. To do so, I have to work. Since entering the workforce at the age of 16, I ve
held many jobs working in food and beverage, fast food, and investment industries. Working in these
industries has provided me with opportunities to work with different managers. All of the managers I
ve worked with had different personalities and management styles. The purpose of this paper is to
identify the management styles I encountered, the type of bosses they were, and the leadership styles
they demonstrated.
When I entered the workforce at 16, there weren t many high paying jobs available for someone with
absolutely no previous work experience. The only job available for me was in the fast food industry,
so my first job was at TacoBell. Working at TacoBell, exposed me to my very first management style.
The general manager was a small middle aged woman named Lucy. Lucy was a very stern and straight
forward. The saying you can t teach an old dog new trick referred to her. District managers would
come into the store to train the store over new menu items, and she would argue and openly disagree
with the new changes and procedures taking place. Watching these actions on numerous occasions, I
realized how much of a control freak she was because she would constantly disagree and tell her boss
what should be done.
Then to top it off, she wasn t kind to

Figurative Language Used In The Beauty Poem Analysis
5. There are many poetic devices and figurative language used in both poems. In the innocence poem
the Nurse s song we see a metaphor when the nurse says, My heart is at rest within my breast ,
meaning that the nurse is content and filled with peace and joy while watching the children at play.
Imagery and symbolism is used in both poems with the color green which associates with growth,
fertility and spring. (Represent places of play and freedom) Also, in the Innocence poem, imagery is
used when said, Besides in the sky, the little birds fly and the hills are all covered with sheep . These
creatures are gentle just like the children are and the birds in particular are symbolic of freedom. In the
experience poem the word night , metaphorically represents danger and sadness. (completely opposite
of the innocence where light was used to positively portray the children). In the experience poem the
Nanny makes a metaphor when she says, My face turns green and pale , the notes on the back of the
book explain how this means that the Nurse is a sex starved spinster. Meaning that she is a woman
who did not experience a happy youth, and who is sick for the longings of experience, and who is
maybe jealous of the children. The poetic devices and figurative language impact the whole meaning
of the poem completely, because without the multiple metaphors and imagery used I would of never of
guessed that the Nurses green and pale face meant what it meant. (made the poems come together

Dopamine Model Essay
The Dopamine Model (DM) has been around since the twentieth century (Preston, O Neal and Talaga,
2017). The model believes that the cause of schizophrenia symptoms is from abnormal dopamine in
the brain (Preston, et al., 2017). The premise is based off two observations. The first one is that
antipsychotic drugs are able to bind and block the dopamine receptors (Preston, O Neal, et al., 2017).
The second observation is that the antipsychotic drugs increases dopamine which create paranoid
schizophrenia symptoms (Preston, et al., 2017).
The Glutamate Model premise is from the phencyclidine (PCP) drug (Preston, et al., 2017). The
upside of the glutamate model is that the PCP is able to block the glutamate at the N methyl D
asparate signals in the brain (Preston, et al., 2017). PCP increases symptoms that schizophrenia lack
such as, negative thinking, apart and disorganization (Preston, et al., 2017).
Neurodevelopmental/Neurodegenerative Model (NNM) is different from the former two models.
NNM examines the biological factors that are considered abnormal (Preston, et al., 2017). It has been
believed through evidence that schizophrenia is a progressive disorder with this loss of cognitive use
(Preston, et al., 2017). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This being said, the NNM supports early onset and progression of schizophrenia (Kochunov, Hong,

conversation about the white matter. During adolescent years of schizophrenia the synaptic regrouping
and the affects it has on the white matter has gone unnoticed for decades (Kochunov, Hong, 2014).
Notably the article argues that during the developmental years that psychosis was compromised

Are Hacksaws As Productive As Band Saws
1. Does the force or torque in drilling change as the hole depth increases? Explain. How then, would
you then change the feeds and speeds as the hole depth increases?
Generally, as the hole depth increases, the force or torque in drilling also increases because as the
depth increases, the surface contact area will also increase which increases the required force to drill
the hole. Therefore, it increases the required torque. As the hole depth increase, the feed and speed
reduce because the drill experience higher stress as the depth increase compared to the stress at
shallow holes. These stresses caused torque to increase with the increasing chances of failure. So, to
compensate the chances of failure, the feeds and speed needed to be reduced. ... Show more content on

Tool material strength is a material property of strength that tool is made up of. For example, material
strength of steel is greater than material strength of cast iron. Similarly, Tool strength is the ability of
tool to resist fracture or failure. Furthermore, tool strength also depends on tool geometry. Tool
strength is the strength of the tool to failure and fracture. It depends on the tool material strength as
well as its arrangement in the tool.
5. If inserts are used in a drill bit (see Fig. 23.22), how important is the shank material? If so, what
properties are important? Also, are the feed marks left on the workpiece by a face milling cutter, true
segments of a true circle?
If inserts are used in a drill bit, the temperature of the inserts will be high so, the shank material is very
important to remove heat from inserts. Similarly, thermal expansion coefficients of insert and shank
material need to be matching to avoid any thermal stresses. The feed marks left on the work piece are
due to the relative motion between the milling cutter and work pieces.

The Characterization Of Ralph In Lord Of The Flies By...
Have you ever thought about what you would do if you had the opportunity to be head manager or
chief of whatever it is you love to do? Are you positive that you have the experience to overcome the
responsibility or even the consequences? In Lord of the Flies, William Golding, uses the
characterization of Ralph to represent the overall leadership needed in order for the infants to survive
throughout the journey. It all embarks when a plane carrying a group of boys is shot down over the
Pacific and the pilot of the plane is killed. Fortunately, many of the boys survive the crash and find
themselves deserted on an uninhabited island, where later on they discover that they are alone without
adult supervision. This instantly leads to chaotic trepidation, which means an alliance would be likely
mandatory. Leadership is a key factor utilized in the story and basically without this hook, the rest of
the minors would be nearly prone to their surroundings. This would lead to a huge conflict right off
the back and affect their chances of getting off the island. Ralph expresses his confidence immediately
by feeling like he has the courage of being the leader. In the beginning, he automatically considers
himself as an option for the others to elect. In the story, William states, Jack started to protest but the
clamor changed from the general wish for a chief to an election by acclaim of Ralph himself. (15)

True Art Speaks Plainly, By Theodore Dreiser
The literary movement of realism addresses material in an accurate way that is true to life, regardless
of the moral boundaries which may be broken. Several authors have undertaken efforts to define this
movement in the most accurate and concise way possible. Theodore Dreiser, in True Art Speaks
Plainly , strives to identify those components which are necessary to literature that is classified under
the realism movement. William Dean Howells s Editha is a literary work that reflects this definition of
realism. Dreiser s arguments regarding the presence of immorality in literature as a precondition for
artistic honesty find an example in the actions of the protagonist of Howells s story. Theodore Dreiser
s True Art Speaks Plainly defines realism as literature that speaks the truth regardless of its moral
substance, and this definition is observable in Howells s Editha through the corrupt motivations of the
protagonist, the critical portrayal of nation states at war, and the ugly manipulation utilized by the
protagonist.
Editha, the story s protagonist, uses weak moral arguments regarding virtue and honor to support her
selfish desire for recognition through another s sacrifice. Throughout the story, the author reveals that
she wants George to join the war effort in a selfish desire for her own personal glory. Howells writes,
But now, it flashed upon her, if he could do something worthy to have won her be a hero, her hero it
would be even better than if he had done

Operation Market Garden took place in Arnhem, Netherlands on 17 September 1944, lasted nine days,
and involved three airborne divisions, an armored division, two infantry divisions, an armored
brigade, and over an estimated 80,000 German infantry and armor . This operation would go on to be
known as the largest airborne operation in history and for its failure to achieve its goals and the
tremendous cost in lives and equipment. The failures during several key points of the undertaking both
before and during execution would undermine the operation and doom it to failure. When discussing

The Slave Ship And Hokusai s The Great Wave Off Kanagawa
In the Turner s The Slave Ship and Hokusai s The Great Wave off Kanagawa, the two artists use the
complexity and versatility of the ocean to display important events and ideas of the time period.
Through the use of different artistic techniques, these two artists are able to capture similar settings in
very different ways with very different meanings. Around the age of six years old, Hokusai began
painting and even spent time as an apprentice wood carver in his youth. He began the art of print
making when he was eighteen. His most famous painting, The Great Wave, can be seen in museums
all over the world even though Japan delayed it from catching on worldwide. Many believe that it was
painted in the early 1800s, but Japan was not interacting culturally with other countries apart from
trade with China and Korea. It wasn t until 1859 when the Japanese were forced to open their ports
that prints of The Wave spread across Europe. Originally, this piece wasn t viewed as real art by
Japanese politicians and art historians. Wood block printing was used for commercial use and as a
popular form of expression. The Japanese government wasn t too thrilled that such a seemingly
lowbrow art form had come to define them (15 Things). About five thousand to eight thousand prints
were made but it is speculated that only a few hundreds of The Great Wave remain. The painting
actually inspired music like Debussy s La Mer. In Hokusai s The Great Wave off Kanagawa, Mount
Fuji can be seen in

For my non participant observation, I went to a Cheesecake Factory in a strip mall located nearby an
urban city. Doing Gender , a journal article by West and Zimmerman, describes the nature of gender
and sex in society. When I was observing people, I was really trying to locate patterns among genders,
or assumed genders. Gender can be defined as an achieved status: that which is constructed through
psychological, cultural, and social means (West and Zimmerman pp. 125). The article describes
gender as something that is achieved, grown up with, and taught to by others who perform gender.
Performing gender is conforming to stereotypes and ideals put in place by members of society in order
to be seen and accepted as a specific gender. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The men seemed to be all around average height, some even shorter than a couple waitresses. This

Abstract
The purpose of this experiment was to find out if an adults could pass a middle school science test.
My hypothesis was that the 20 39 year old age group would have the highest average test score. To
determine this I had adults, in the age ranges of 20 39, 40 59, and 60+, take a 12 question middle
school science test. The results proved my hypothesis right because the 20 39 year olds age group had
the highest average test score. The 60+ age group had the second highest average test score and the 40
59 year old age group had the lowest average test score. The independent variables are the ages of the
adults, which are (20 39), (40 59), (60+). The dependent variable is the grade the participant gets on
the test based on the answer sheet for the test. The controlled variable is the 12 question middle school
science test based on middle school curriculum. If I were to do something to make the data more
accurate I would to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

An Mba Program Through Application And Insight Of The...
Introduction Master of Business Administration, let that sink in a moment MBA degree, let that sink in
another moment. Many organizations actively recruit for qualified personnel with MBAs. Why is an
MBA degree sought after? Some insight can be provided by Susan Miller (2011), author of The
Essential MBA, Few Masters degrees require a learner to have such a wide ranging command of so
many, often fairly disparate areas of enquiry (p. 1). Another way to interpret the quote from Ms. Miller
s book is that obtaining an MBA degree is challenging and requires a different type of perseverance
than other master degrees require. The intention of this introduction is to provide insight into Judson s
MBA program before the first business discipline essay is read in the body of this book. Through the
authors essays, the overarching intent of this book is to broaden the reader s understanding of Judson s
MBA program through application and insight of the disciplines taught throughout the program.
Through that understanding and perception, the authors hope the reader is compelled to consider
Judson University as a choice for an MBA Degree. This book is being written by a cohort of MBA
students, a number of whom have graduate degrees in other disciplines. They can vouch for the fact an
MBA program is different from other masters programs where the student dives deep into a subject
area. An MBA program is more like puddle jumping as the cohort studies one subject area after

Tiananmen Square Essay
Tiananmen Square: As hope began to creep into the minds of young New Wave artists, they began to
push the boundaries past what cultural officials could accept. Many officials expressed the opinion
that young artists exhibitions were incomprehensible, a confused hodgepodge that has everything in it
but works of real artistic value. It reflects ideological emptiness[...] primarily sexual liberation, lust
that will drive people into promiscuity. Disgusting, naked filth! (Sullivan 276). Despite the pressure
placed upon them, artists would not be silenced: they would defend their freedom and democracy to
their last breath. In 1980, a spark of rebellion began following the death of Hu Yaobang, one of the
most reform minded leaders after the Cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In shock, the artists came to a sudden realization of their impotence in the face of real politics. Their
idealism an utopian enthusiasm so typical of new art in the 1980s met its nemesis in the gun barrels of
Tiananmen. Unofficial culture, which was just coming out into the open, was again forced into an
iconoclast position by official policy. But, ironically, this banishment in the end served creative art a
good turn (Chang 1). The party once again controlled the creation of official art, however young artists
would not allow themselves to be controlled. The underground nature of new art communities allowed
artists to thrive and experiment without fear. Artists were forced to reevaluate the premise and validity
of their artistic pursuit, and of the delicate tensions between form, aesthetic matter and reality (Chang
2). Out of the reach of government control, they were able to look abroad to places such as Singapore,
Taiwan, and the west. Tiananmen Square became deeply embedded in the minds of the artists that
arose during the 1990s, and they faced the future with a skepticism their predecessors lacked. From
the ashes of the New Wave rose the Cynical Realists, a group of young artists unsullied by the
impractical expectations of the 80s (sullivan

Theories Of Power, Authority And Legitimacy
Introduction
In this reading report, it discusses the various perspectives about power, authority and legitimacy in
the chapter titled Power, Authority and the State by Shaun Best. In this chapter Best draws various
theories from a number of theorists that contributes to power, authority and legitimacy. From their
perspectives, three have been chosen which are Anthony Giddens, Max Weber, and Michel Foucault.
Their perspectives on the topic will be summarised and how power, authority and legitimacy can be

Charismatic authority is solely based on the charisma of an individual that is seen as a leader and the
individuals personality and character is essential. Traditional authority is when a title is transferred
from one generation to the next through tradition and belief system. Rational legal authority is the
legitimate power that is seen as acceptable by citizens because there are rules and set of laws that
gives the state authority. Illegitimate power is a form of punishment centred/ coercion that citizens do
not adhere too and go against the given rules. (Best, 2001: 14 15)
Michel Foucault
Foucault emphasized on how power is the idea of struggle and the resistance and how power operates
at all levels in society. Foucault mentions how people are mere test subjects for example he touches on
how the state make use of resources to gather information about individuals, which he calls bio power
(Best, 2001: 19 20). There are three modes of objection that explain how people become subjects. The
first mode is dividing practices which involve the exclusion of people who are seen as a threat to
society. The second mode is the scientific classification, which focuses on the hierarchical
observations. The third mode is subjectification, which focuses on citizen of society and everything

by war, or rescued by the British. Fortunately, the marbles were saved and guarded by the British,
preventing any possible destruction. Lord Elgin did not only legally retrieve the marbles but he had
entirely good intentions as he was clearly captivated by classical Greek design. At the time, Greece
was under the rule of the Turkish Ottoman, the Turks continually defaced and destroyed many statues
in order to make mortar.(Sultan, Nancy, Illinois Wesleyan University. Should the Elgin Marbles be
Returned to Greece? Illinois, 2005.). It was only a matter of time before the marbles were sacrificed.

The Role Of Gender Challenging Role Models
The use of gender challenging role models in the classroom is a method I am going to use during my
final professional practice and during my year as a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT). I am going to use
these demonstrate to both girls and boys that the media depiction of success is not accurate and that
success can be measured in various ways. Role models such as Marie Curie, Dian Fossey and Mary
Anning are good historical figures to use but children could see these as dull despite their
achievements. Although I do consider the use of these women as role models important, I feel that a
role model who children can relate to and that they see in everyday life would be more successful in
challenging gender stereotypes. To encourage girls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The importance for teachers to be positive role models is set out by the government in the Teachers
Standards (Department for Education, 2011). I believe, as a male teacher, that there is an extra
responsibility for me to model gender neutrality. I believe it is important for the boys in my classroom
have both a positive masculine role model and a male figure in their life that is not afraid to embrace
so called feminine aspects of life. I would like the boys in my classroom to understand that there are
not boy jobs and girl jobs both in school and at home. I will model this by explaining my role at home;
doing the dishes, hoovering, ironing and being a family man; activities that some may see as not very
masculine. I will show that there is no such thing a girly colours by wearing a pink shirt from time to
time. Most importantly I would like to challenge boys perception that education is feminine. Although
research totally refutes the assumption that boys attainment improves when they are placed with a
male teacher (Drudy, 2008; Francis et al, 2008; Read, 2010), There seems to be a particular kudos that
some male teachers get from children. Whether this is due to their minority status in primary
education (National Union of Teachers, 2016) or due to masculinity being given a superior social
standing (Skelton, 2011a). Consequently, it important for male teachers to use this

Voting System In America
Over seventy years ago, Joseph Stalin, leader of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, made a
remark about the democratic voting system in the United States. He stated, ...it is completely
unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this who will
count the votes, and how. Joseph Stalin, who once was a totalitarian dictator, was able to see the
loopholes in our democratic election process that the American people never addressed, or they simply
ignored. An American s vote no longer matters in the way that it used to; In fact, this is no longer an
area of black and white, instead it has changed to an obscure gray field that shadows over all
Americans. The prestigious land of the United States, where democracy has been held up for over two
centuries, is no longer upholding the belief of one man one vote. Instead, it has allowed the 528 votes
of the Electoral College to run rampant and impede on the founding beliefs that all Americans hold
dear. Our voting process, with the Electoral College in charge, no longer speaks for the majority of the
people in the United States of America. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Voters were extremely limited in ways to learn about their potential party candidates, and how their
ideas related to those of their candidate. But today, there are several ways for Americans to learn about

methods to get the word out. Because of the sources that we now hold, the vote for the presidency
should be based completely off of the popular vote, and the Electoral College should be abolished.

Effects Of Regulation On The Economy
Every economy needs regulations to a certain extent, but how much is too much, and how exactly do
regulations even affect the economy of the country? Those are key questions that many are asking,
and don t truly have answers for. Many people in the country feel that there is way too much
regulation on the economy at this point; however, there s also a great amount of people who are
content with how much regulation is going on, and would keep pushing. Essentially there are two
extremes when it comes to the topic of regulation and what too much of it will do to the economy. Too

Stages Of Grief By Elisabeth Kubler Ross
Stages of Grief
Elaine Skrdlant
Walden University Stages of Grief
Stages of Grief
Elisabeth Kübler Ross developed methods for counseling after personal traumas and grief related to
the death and dying process. Higher stages of grief implementation, utilization occurs within the grief
and hospice care. Kubler Ross and Kessler (nd) indicates that misunderstanding surrounds her stages
of death as those focused on the typical responses that people experience when they suffer a loss.
Kubler Ross and Kessler acknowledge how everyone is unique, and this includes his or her grieving
process. Within the framework of this model, the first stage of loss is denial. The emphasis on death
and dying are for the person who is dying. Within the grieving process, the family is in denial that the
loved one has died. This process is more figurative rather than factual. Denial is a defense mechanism
implemented as they are not ready to acknowledge the loss of a loved one. When the individual
becomes stronger, the denial diminishes, and the emotions began to surface.
The second step within this model is he emergence of the anger stage. Accordingly, anger comes out
in different ways. Losing loved results in anger towards yourself, God, the doctors and the person who
died. Kubler Ross and Kessler (nd) indicates anger is an important component of the healing process
to continue. Individuals must work through anger at his or her pace. The third component of this

Wilfred Owen Futility Poem
Poetry invites us into a different world and broadens our understanding of human experiences by
endorsing us with reality. Wilfred Owen s verse undermines the pervasion of ugliness and the
abhorrent physical and emotional consequences of war, stimulating us to witness the dehumanisation
of soldiers in conflict. Thus, revealing war s harsh reality and simultaneously allowing the responder
to learn the human experiences of war. Owen s bitterness in the poem Dulce et Decorum Est ,
graphically unfolds the shocking experience of soldiers during a gas attack to highlight the recurring
theme of the horrors of war. Futility displays Owen s despairing voice as he shares an existential
angst, a critical loss of hope. Ultimately, the composers authentic ideas, forms and language features
allow responders to understand the human experiences of the reality of war, taking us into a world full
of mechanised warfare.
The immeasurable horrors of war can only be blinded by the truth of those who haven t seen or heard
of the reality of war. This is exposed by Owen s bitterness in Dulce et Decorum Est , to broaden
responders in understanding the horrific experiences of war and the impacts on ordinary soldiers. At
the beginning of the poem, hyperbolic exaggeration and metaphor emphasise how men are physically
injured, coughing like hags and limped on, blood shod . This enables the responder to instantly
imagine the horrific conditions of the limping progress of soldiers. The dramatic

Gaar Uk (General Anti-Avoidance Rule)
General Anti avoidance rule
Tax avoidance has become a massive topic of discussion over the past few years, given the current
global economic conditions and the cuts to the public sector by the government as a result. This led to
increased anger from the public who perceive avoidance by many of the country s wealthiest people in
a time of austerity as greed. Perhaps the most notable demonstration of this anger can be seen in the
actions of the group UK Uncut, who for the past year have been organising protests at shops owned by
retail tycoon Philip Green who, as the poster boy for tax avoidance, paid a £1.2 billion dividend to his
Monaco resident wife.
It is estimated that avoidance schemes in the UK cost the treasury roughly £25 ... Show more content

I know every little helps, but when you consider the UKs national debt stands at over £900billion, I
find myself wondering if the introduction of a GAAR is going to be far more hassle than it s worth to
the economy.
The Institute of Charted Accountants of Scotland are in favour of the introduction of a GAAR and
made the point that, too many of the best brains in Britain are focussed on tax avoidance, to the
chancellor. I do have to agree that it does seem to be madness to have so many thousands of intelligent
people working on ways to reduce the amount of tax revenue the government receives but I would
have to disagree with the rest of their argument that the labour could be redeployed more effectively,
adding more value to the economy as I m not sure where else several thousand tax specialists could be
redeployed at a time of widespread unemployment.
Those in favour of a GAAR also point to the apparent success of similar laws in countries that have
used the law for years such as Australia or Canada. Despite initial problems with its introduction in
Australia, a GAAR has been in law for over a decade and while it has been used relatively rarely, it
acts as a measure of control over avoidance activity reducing the amount of schemes that are created
therefore reducing the workload for the tax authority. More countries are now following the
Australians and Canadians lead with South Africa and India introducing

Test Crt Should Be Used Rather Than Norm Referenced Tests
Criterion Referenced Tests CRT Should Be Used Rather Than Norm Referenced Tests NRT The
assessment looks at the wide variety of methods that educators use to evaluate and determined the
achievement of the student s educational need. The focus of this essay is to look at the Criterion
Referenced Tests (CRT) and the Norm Referenced Tests (NRT) usage to see why the Criterion
Referenced Tests should be used rather than the Norm Referenced Tests. The learning standards and
the curriculum will be discussed to help determine why the CRT should be used rather than the NRT.
Also, we will take a look at the principal use of how the two methods differ by one using survey
testing and the other mastery testing. I will give my informed opinion throughout the essay. The
Criterion Referenced Tests measure the performance against a fix set of predetermined learning
standards. This means that there will be written descriptions of what students are expected to know
and are able to do in each learning outcome unit stage in the course. This method of assessment is
done to evaluate what skills the student has learned. The learning standards will measure how well a
student has mastered the specific skill described in the national learning standards (Waugh Gronlund,
2013). Since the teachers and the schools can develop their own learning standards, this will help the
students to be able to accomplish the learning objective performance outcome expected in my opinion.

The Argument For God s Existence And Nature
Question 2
In part IX of Hume s Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion, Deamea, the orthodox Christian,
confronts Philo s skepticism towards the arguments for God s existence and nature that have thus far
be discussed. Deamea presents a version of the ontological argument that he believes should provide
undeniable proof of the truths found in religious dogma. However, Philo is not convinced with this
argument because of the nature of the argument. Philo describes Deamea s ontological argument as an
a priori argument. In Latin a priori is means from before but when this term is used in philosophy it is
meant to mean from before experience. These kinds of arguments are arguments that anyone can come
to see as being true from the comfort of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These arguments argue for something through the use of empirical evidence. An example of a
posteriori knowledge would be the statement, Barack Obama is the current president of the United
States. This is an example of empirical information that cannot be proven through reason alone. The
different viewpoints between a priori and a posteriori arguments can be seen in works for Thomas
Aquinas and Anselm of Canterbury. Both Saints believe that God is self evident. However, Aquinas
uses a priori arguments and Anselm uses an a priori argument. I believe that Aquinas does not reject
Anselm s argument because it is a priori. Aquinas issues with Anselm s argument lies in Anselm s
misuse of his definition of God and humanity s inability to understand this definition. In his
ontological argument, Anselm defines God as that than which nothing greater can be thought.
According to Aquinas, this is where the main issue lies in Anselm s argument. Aquinas believes that
everyone must have the same concept of God in order for Anselm s definition of God to work. Not
everyone will define God as that than which nothing greater can be thought. This definition is the
basis of Anselm s argument and if people cannot come to define God as Anselm did then the argument
fails. Aquinas second issue with Anselm s ontological argument comes from the fact that even if
everyone comes to accept God as that

Preserving Asparagus
Asparagus can be pickled and stored for up to one year. To pickle one pound (450 mg) of asparagus:
Cut spears into lengths 1 inch (2.5cm) shorter than the depth of the canning jar.
Mix the spears with 1/3 cup (80 milliliters) of salt, set aside for 2 hours, then rinse and dry.
Sterilize the canning jars in boiling water for 10 minutes.
Heat white vinegar, a dash of sugar, dill seed, and mustard seeds in a sauce pan, boiling for one
minute.
Place the asparagus shoots into the jar, tips upward. Pour the hot vinegar mix over the asparagus to
approximately 1/3 of an inch (.8cm) below the rim, and seal with a canning jar lid and band.
Process the jars in a water bath, boiling them for 10 minutes. After cooling the jars, check the seal by
pressing the center and making sure it does not move. Put unsealed jars in the refrigerator and eat
them within 14 days.
You can also preserve asparagus by blanching it for about 3 minutes and storing it in freezer bags in

Reasons For Gun Control
Gun control is one of the most important issues debated worldwide, but most importantly in the

A recent event that dealt with gun control regulation is the Sandy Hook Shooting where the tragic
massacre in Newton, Conn. killed twenty children and eight adults including himself. I argue this
event, because it gave me prove for the need for more gun control.

(arranged or not) to walk around, equipped, at all conditions. There have been serious incidents where
firearms were unexpectedly terminated, yet at the same time brought on a major issue when they did.
In a current review they have found that, instead of being utilized for self protection, firearms in the

A mistake that was made when the Second Amendment was made is that they gave people the right to

Privacy In Workplace
Telephone Usage (Lauren Sanders)
Telephone usage is a part of the technology that can affect the privacy in the workplace. The call
feature on telephones can cause privacy issues. Although it is illegal for anyone to listen or record
regular phone calls, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act excludes commonplace business calls
(Maltby, 2013). This means the employer can record or listen phone calls made about business.
Sometimes employers make employees sign forms to consent to phone calls being monitored. Another
exception to this act is if the employee has consented to be monitored (Mika, 2012).
There are limits to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (Maltby, 2013). A business is supposed
to stop listening and hang up when the phone call becomes personal (Maltby, 2013). This cannot be
monitored to know if the business is actually following this protocol. Also, the courts rule mainly in
the favor of the employer with the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (Mika, 2012). Privacy
issues with phones do not just stop with calls.
Another issue surrounding privacy and phone usage deals with devices given to employer. Sometimes
employers give employees devices to use for the business. These devices may be able to do a variety
of different functions. Often times these devices can do more than the ... Show more content on

Summary Of Everyday Life By Goffman
Throughout The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, Goffman makes an analogy between self and
society, and actors and theater. In the concluding chapter, Goffman begins with a discussion on his
theory of self and then proceeds to question his analogy of theater and actors. In choosing to step
back, Goffman acknowledges that the book and analogy are part of his opinion, and that others may
disagree. While Goffman presents hesitation regarding the use of this analogy, for many readers the
analogy allows them to better comprehend the structure of social encounters. Goffman uses actors and
the theater to understand something about individuals and the way they interact in everyday life. In his
conclusion, Goffman provides a theory of the self. According to Goffman, the self is composed of two
parts the performer and the character. The theory being that the self is a performed character. The
character being the real self, which is developed because of one s actions. All the actions we make as
individuals have risks, and these risks are part of our everyday performances. ... Show more content

In his last two pages, Goffman makes an argument stating that his use of the theater and actors was in
part a rhetoric and a maneuver (Goffman 254). Having read all of Goffman, I believe that his use of
the theater is a successful analogy. An analogy is a literary technique used to compare things so that a
relationship can be seen between them. The comparison works to get the reader to think about what
both things have in common. For much of the book, Goffman describes in detail the similarities
between an individual s performance during social interactions and an actor s performance on stage.
Goffman admits that there are differences between real life and the stage. However, the techniques

Jimmy Carter Literature Review
Jimmy Carter was a very avid Christian before, during and after his time in office. He is commonly
acknowledged of being one of the most religious presidents in history. The purpose of this literature
review is to give an overview of how academia interprets Carter s religiosity. Berggren and Rae
(2006) describe Carter as an Evangelical style president with a strong devotion to his corresponding
Evangelical Faith. He is referred to being the born again president. Carter had a born again experience
during his pre presidential life which supports he was evangelist during this part of his life. In this
experience, he questioned his faith after a failed attempt to become governor. It wasn t until his sister,
a devout evangelist, spoke to and convinced him that he had not fully dedicated himself to God, that
he had a born again realization and devoted himself to Christ. Carter s Evangelical Faith is further
supported by him referencing himself as born again and saying, I believe God wants me to be the best
politician I can be (Lindsay, 2007). Lindsay s article also reasons that at the beginning of his
presidency Carter had a high rate of evangelical approval because these people could easily connect
with like minded president. Carter s evangelism religiosity is demonstrated by these two sources
before and during his early administration but gives no insight into how might have changed during
and after his presidency. Preston (2012, 575) expands on Carter s evangelical

Goal Setting Theory of Motivation
Fred C. Lunenburg
Sam Houston State University
ABSTRACT Locke and Latham provide a well developed goal setting theory of motivation. The
theory emphasizes the important relationship between goals and performance. Research supports
predictions that the most effective performance seems to result when goals are specific and
challenging, when they are used to evaluate performance and linked to feedback on results, and create
commitment and acceptance. The motivational impact of goals may be affected by moderators such as
ability and self efficacy. Deadlines improve the effectiveness of goals. A learning goal ... Show more

Asking organization members to improve, to work harder, or to do your best is not helpful, because
that kind of goal does not give them a focused target.
FRED C. LUNENBURG
_____________________________________________________________________________________3
Specific goals (often quantified) let organization members know what to reach for and allow them to
measure their own progress. Research indicates that specific goals help bring about other desirable
organizational goals, such as reducing absenteeism, tardiness, and turnover (Locke Latham, 2002).
Goals Must Be Difficult but Attainable A goal that is too easily attained will not bring about the
desired increments in performance. The key point is that a goal must be difficult as well as specific for
it to raise performance. However, there is a limit to this effect. Although organization members will
work hard to reach challenging goals, they will only do so when the goals are within their capability.
As goals become too difficult, performance suffers because organization members reject the goals as
unreasonable and unattainable. A major factor in attainability of a goal is self efficacy (Bandura,
1997). This is an internal belief regarding one s job related capabilities and competencies. If
employees have high selfefficacies, they will tend to set higher personal goals under the belief that
they are attainable. The first key to successful goal setting is to build and reinforce

in the Vietnam war. Angry at the lack of awareness, and seeming care, in Australians towards the dead

terrors they faced in order to defend their country. The poem consists of numerous poetic devices to
express the horrors of war to the reader. These include the use of repetition to emphasise how the
gathering of dead bodies has become a such regular occurrence, the soldiers have become desensitised

from them the second the die and are never granted the recognition they deserve. Through repetition,
Dawe highlights how the death of a soldier becomes routine and insignificant to the men who have to
collect their bodies; paradox is used to further emphasise the senseless horror of soldiers dying too
young; and consonance, simile and imagery are all used to to demonstrate the dehumanising nature of
war. Throughout his poem, Bruce Dawe effectively utilises numerous poetic techniques to enhance
and support his ideas on the brutality of

  • 2. Ethnic Makeup Of Los Angeles Since 1965 many people have immigrated to the greater Los Angeles area than anywhere within the United States. These immigrants have rapidly and profoundly transformed the city s ethnic makeup and spared heated debate over their impact on the region. Unfortunately within many areas of Los Angeles there are those who have been pushed out of their homes, which have been passed through generations of ethnic minorities in other areas due to gentrification. These gentrified areas have been renovated by the city to allow for a much more comfortable living experience. One specific way this has happened is by allowing an ease of access to mainstream markets that provide necessary measures for their lifestyle. However those of this community are not the only communities that wish to adhere to this lifestyle. Many Angelinos, although living within a community that is seen as poor and unhealthy, actually care about the food that they put within their bodies. The resources that are readily available in the gentrified location in Los Angeles, but not to other parts force them to eat from local markets and convenience stores close where the quality is unhealthy. Organic, non gmo, and foods that do not contain MSG are solely confined to stores within areas where people which money has moved to. These markets consist of mainstream grocers, grocery stores where there is an availability of fresh foods, which can support a healthy diet on a regular basis. It is not an issue they have ... • 3. The Inner Workings Of Evolution And Natural Selection Evidence Investigate the inner workings of pluricellular evolution, cell shape and function, as well as how cells survive and multiply. This is an essential question to consider and elaborate on when trying to prove the topic of evolution. Evolution will be proven hereby by elaborating on the inner workings of the Endosymbiotic theory, Multicellular evolution and Natural selection, along with Cell specialization, replacement and Differentiation. The Endosymbiotic theory is an assumption based on experience and/or limited information about the evolution of the cell. Bacteria are one of the oldest single cellular organisms. They began to make their own food using photosynthesis which then produced enough oxygen to reshape Earth s atmosphere. This change brought upon diverse bacterial life which include clear evidence that chloroplasts and mitochondria were, at one point, crude bacterial cells. Over the years, chloroplasts and mitochondria became dependent on a host cell. After millions of years of evolution, chloroplasts and mitochondria cannot survive outside of the cell. This is the Endosymbiotic theory. Although this is labeled a theory, there is striking evidence that shows similarities in both bacteria, and mitochondria and chloroplasts. They all have their own DNA (separate from the nucleus), and they both use this DNA to produce proteins and enzymes for their functions. Multicellular evolution has reshaped Earth s ecology and is incredibly critical in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Working At Tacobell With A White Picket Fence Jobs I ve Held I want to live the American Dream. I have the wife, but I also want the two children and the house with a white picket fence. To do so, I have to work. Since entering the workforce at the age of 16, I ve held many jobs working in food and beverage, fast food, and investment industries. Working in these industries has provided me with opportunities to work with different managers. All of the managers I ve worked with had different personalities and management styles. The purpose of this paper is to identify the management styles I encountered, the type of bosses they were, and the leadership styles they demonstrated. When I entered the workforce at 16, there weren t many high paying jobs available for someone with absolutely no previous work experience. The only job available for me was in the fast food industry, so my first job was at TacoBell. Working at TacoBell, exposed me to my very first management style. The general manager was a small middle aged woman named Lucy. Lucy was a very stern and straight forward. The saying you can t teach an old dog new trick referred to her. District managers would come into the store to train the store over new menu items, and she would argue and openly disagree with the new changes and procedures taking place. Watching these actions on numerous occasions, I realized how much of a control freak she was because she would constantly disagree and tell her boss what should be done. Then to top it off, she wasn t kind to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Figurative Language Used In The Beauty Poem Analysis 5. There are many poetic devices and figurative language used in both poems. In the innocence poem the Nurse s song we see a metaphor when the nurse says, My heart is at rest within my breast , meaning that the nurse is content and filled with peace and joy while watching the children at play. Imagery and symbolism is used in both poems with the color green which associates with growth, fertility and spring. (Represent places of play and freedom) Also, in the Innocence poem, imagery is used when said, Besides in the sky, the little birds fly and the hills are all covered with sheep . These creatures are gentle just like the children are and the birds in particular are symbolic of freedom. In the experience poem the word night , metaphorically represents danger and sadness. (completely opposite of the innocence where light was used to positively portray the children). In the experience poem the Nanny makes a metaphor when she says, My face turns green and pale , the notes on the back of the book explain how this means that the Nurse is a sex starved spinster. Meaning that she is a woman who did not experience a happy youth, and who is sick for the longings of experience, and who is maybe jealous of the children. The poetic devices and figurative language impact the whole meaning of the poem completely, because without the multiple metaphors and imagery used I would of never of guessed that the Nurses green and pale face meant what it meant. (made the poems come together ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Dopamine Model Essay The Dopamine Model (DM) has been around since the twentieth century (Preston, O Neal and Talaga, 2017). The model believes that the cause of schizophrenia symptoms is from abnormal dopamine in the brain (Preston, et al., 2017). The premise is based off two observations. The first one is that antipsychotic drugs are able to bind and block the dopamine receptors (Preston, O Neal, et al., 2017). The second observation is that the antipsychotic drugs increases dopamine which create paranoid schizophrenia symptoms (Preston, et al., 2017). The Glutamate Model premise is from the phencyclidine (PCP) drug (Preston, et al., 2017). The upside of the glutamate model is that the PCP is able to block the glutamate at the N methyl D asparate signals in the brain (Preston, et al., 2017). PCP increases symptoms that schizophrenia lack such as, negative thinking, apart and disorganization (Preston, et al., 2017). Neurodevelopmental/Neurodegenerative Model (NNM) is different from the former two models. NNM examines the biological factors that are considered abnormal (Preston, et al., 2017). It has been believed through evidence that schizophrenia is a progressive disorder with this loss of cognitive use (Preston, et al., 2017). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This being said, the NNM supports early onset and progression of schizophrenia (Kochunov, Hong, 2014). There has been research on the what is seen going on with the grey matter but little conversation about the white matter. During adolescent years of schizophrenia the synaptic regrouping and the affects it has on the white matter has gone unnoticed for decades (Kochunov, Hong, 2014). Notably the article argues that during the developmental years that psychosis was compromised resulting in progressions of schizophrenia ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Are Hacksaws As Productive As Band Saws 1. Does the force or torque in drilling change as the hole depth increases? Explain. How then, would you then change the feeds and speeds as the hole depth increases? Generally, as the hole depth increases, the force or torque in drilling also increases because as the depth increases, the surface contact area will also increase which increases the required force to drill the hole. Therefore, it increases the required torque. As the hole depth increase, the feed and speed reduce because the drill experience higher stress as the depth increase compared to the stress at shallow holes. These stresses caused torque to increase with the increasing chances of failure. So, to compensate the chances of failure, the feeds and speed needed to be reduced. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tool material strength is a material property of strength that tool is made up of. For example, material strength of steel is greater than material strength of cast iron. Similarly, Tool strength is the ability of tool to resist fracture or failure. Furthermore, tool strength also depends on tool geometry. Tool strength is the strength of the tool to failure and fracture. It depends on the tool material strength as well as its arrangement in the tool. 5. If inserts are used in a drill bit (see Fig. 23.22), how important is the shank material? If so, what properties are important? Also, are the feed marks left on the workpiece by a face milling cutter, true segments of a true circle? If inserts are used in a drill bit, the temperature of the inserts will be high so, the shank material is very important to remove heat from inserts. • 8. The Characterization Of Ralph In Lord Of The Flies By... Have you ever thought about what you would do if you had the opportunity to be head manager or chief of whatever it is you love to do? Are you positive that you have the experience to overcome the responsibility or even the consequences? In Lord of the Flies, William Golding, uses the characterization of Ralph to represent the overall leadership needed in order for the infants to survive throughout the journey. It all embarks when a plane carrying a group of boys is shot down over the Pacific and the pilot of the plane is killed. Fortunately, many of the boys survive the crash and find themselves deserted on an uninhabited island, where later on they discover that they are alone without adult supervision. This instantly leads to chaotic trepidation, which means an alliance would be likely mandatory. Leadership is a key factor utilized in the story and basically without this hook, the rest of the minors would be nearly prone to their surroundings. This would lead to a huge conflict right off the back and affect their chances of getting off the island. Ralph expresses his confidence immediately by feeling like he has the courage of being the leader. In the beginning, he automatically considers himself as an option for the others to elect. In the story, William states, Jack started to protest but the clamor changed from the general wish for a chief to an election by acclaim of Ralph himself. • 9. True Art Speaks Plainly, By Theodore Dreiser The literary movement of realism addresses material in an accurate way that is true to life, regardless of the moral boundaries which may be broken. Several authors have undertaken efforts to define this movement in the most accurate and concise way possible. Theodore Dreiser, in True Art Speaks Plainly , strives to identify those components which are necessary to literature that is classified under the realism movement. William Dean Howells s Editha is a literary work that reflects this definition of realism. Dreiser s arguments regarding the presence of immorality in literature as a precondition for artistic honesty find an example in the actions of the protagonist of Howells s story. Theodore Dreiser s True Art Speaks Plainly defines realism as literature that speaks the truth regardless of its moral substance, and this definition is observable in Howells s Editha through the corrupt motivations of the protagonist, the critical portrayal of nation states at war, and the ugly manipulation utilized by the protagonist. Editha, the story s protagonist, uses weak moral arguments regarding virtue and honor to support her selfish desire for recognition through another s sacrifice. Throughout the story, the author reveals that she wants George to join the war effort in a selfish desire for her own personal glory. Howells writes, But now, it flashed upon her, if he could do something worthy to have won her be a hero, her hero it would be even better than if he had done ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Slave Ship And Hokusai s The Great Wave Off Kanagawa In the Turner s The Slave Ship and Hokusai s The Great Wave off Kanagawa, the two artists use the complexity and versatility of the ocean to display important events and ideas of the time period. Through the use of different artistic techniques, these two artists are able to capture similar settings in very different ways with very different meanings. Around the age of six years old, Hokusai began painting and even spent time as an apprentice wood carver in his youth. He began the art of print making when he was eighteen. His most famous painting, The Great Wave, can be seen in museums all over the world even though Japan delayed it from catching on worldwide. Many believe that it was painted in the early 1800s, but Japan was not interacting culturally with other countries apart from trade with China and Korea. It wasn t until 1859 when the Japanese were forced to open their ports that prints of The Wave spread across Europe. Originally, this piece wasn t viewed as real art by Japanese politicians and art historians. Wood block printing was used for commercial use and as a popular form of expression. The Japanese government wasn t too thrilled that such a seemingly lowbrow art form had come to define them (15 Things). About five thousand to eight thousand prints were made but it is speculated that only a few hundreds of The Great Wave remain. The painting actually inspired music like Debussy s La Mer. Doing Gender , a journal article by West and Zimmerman, describes the nature of gender and sex in society. When I was observing people, I was really trying to locate patterns among genders, or assumed genders. Gender can be defined as an achieved status: that which is constructed through psychological, cultural, and social means (West and Zimmerman pp. 125). The article describes gender as something that is achieved, grown up with, and taught to by others who perform gender. Performing gender is conforming to stereotypes and ideals put in place by members of society in order to be seen and accepted as a specific gender. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My hypothesis was that the 20 39 year old age group would have the highest average test score. To determine this I had adults, in the age ranges of 20 39, 40 59, and 60+, take a 12 question middle school science test. The results proved my hypothesis right because the 20 39 year olds age group had the highest average test score. The 60+ age group had the second highest average test score and the 40 59 year old age group had the lowest average test score. The independent variables are the ages of the adults, which are (20 39), (40 59), (60+). The dependent variable is the grade the participant gets on the test based on the answer sheet for the test. Some insight can be provided by Susan Miller (2011), author of The Essential MBA, Few Masters degrees require a learner to have such a wide ranging command of so many, often fairly disparate areas of enquiry (p. 1). Another way to interpret the quote from Ms. Miller s book is that obtaining an MBA degree is challenging and requires a different type of perseverance than other master degrees require. The intention of this introduction is to provide insight into Judson s MBA program before the first business discipline essay is read in the body of this book. Through the authors essays, the overarching intent of this book is to broaden the reader s understanding of Judson s MBA program through application and insight of the disciplines taught throughout the program. Through that understanding and perception, the authors hope the reader is compelled to consider Judson University as a choice for an MBA Degree. This book is being written by a cohort of MBA students, a number of whom have graduate degrees in other disciplines. In shock, the artists came to a sudden realization of their impotence in the face of real politics. Their idealism an utopian enthusiasm so typical of new art in the 1980s met its nemesis in the gun barrels of Tiananmen. Unofficial culture, which was just coming out into the open, was again forced into an iconoclast position by official policy. But, ironically, this banishment in the end served creative art a good turn (Chang 1). The party once again controlled the creation of official art, however young artists would not allow themselves to be controlled. The underground nature of new art communities allowed artists to thrive and experiment without fear. Artists were forced to reevaluate the premise and validity of their artistic pursuit, and of the delicate tensions between form, aesthetic matter and reality (Chang 2). Out of the reach of government control, they were able to look abroad to places such as Singapore, Taiwan, and the west. Tiananmen Square became deeply embedded in the minds of the artists that arose during the 1990s, and they faced the future with a skepticism their predecessors lacked. Stages Of Grief By Elisabeth Kubler Ross Stages of Grief Elaine Skrdlant Walden University Stages of Grief Stages of Grief Elisabeth Kübler Ross developed methods for counseling after personal traumas and grief related to the death and dying process. Higher stages of grief implementation, utilization occurs within the grief and hospice care. Kubler Ross and Kessler (nd) indicates that misunderstanding surrounds her stages of death as those focused on the typical responses that people experience when they suffer a loss. Kubler Ross and Kessler acknowledge how everyone is unique, and this includes his or her grieving process. Within the framework of this model, the first stage of loss is denial. The emphasis on death and dying are for the person who is dying. Within the grieving process, the family is in denial that the loved one has died. This process is more figurative rather than factual. Denial is a defense mechanism implemented as they are not ready to acknowledge the loss of a loved one. When the individual becomes stronger, the denial diminishes, and the emotions began to surface. The second step within this model is he emergence of the anger stage. Accordingly, anger comes out in different ways. • 30. Gaar Uk (General Anti-Avoidance Rule) General Anti avoidance rule Tax avoidance has become a massive topic of discussion over the past few years, given the current global economic conditions and the cuts to the public sector by the government as a result. This led to increased anger from the public who perceive avoidance by many of the country s wealthiest people in a time of austerity as greed. Perhaps the most notable demonstration of this anger can be seen in the actions of the group UK Uncut, who for the past year have been organising protests at shops owned by retail tycoon Philip Green who, as the poster boy for tax avoidance, paid a £1.2 billion dividend to his Monaco resident wife. It is estimated that avoidance schemes in the UK cost the treasury roughly £25 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I know every little helps, but when you consider the UKs national debt stands at over £900billion, I find myself wondering if the introduction of a GAAR is going to be far more hassle than it s worth to the economy. The Institute of Charted Accountants of Scotland are in favour of the introduction of a GAAR and made the point that, too many of the best brains in Britain are focussed on tax avoidance, to the chancellor. I do have to agree that it does seem to be madness to have so many thousands of intelligent people working on ways to reduce the amount of tax revenue the government receives but I would have to disagree with the rest of their argument that the labour could be redeployed more effectively, adding more value to the economy as I m not sure where else several thousand tax specialists could be redeployed at a time of widespread unemployment. Those in favour of a GAAR also point to the apparent success of similar laws in countries that have used the law for years such as Australia or Canada. Despite initial problems with its introduction in Australia, a GAAR has been in law for over a decade and while it has been used relatively rarely, it acts as a measure of control over avoidance activity reducing the amount of schemes that are created therefore reducing the workload for the tax authority. More countries are now following the Australians and Canadians lead with South Africa and India introducing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Test Crt Should Be Used Rather Than Norm Referenced Tests Criterion Referenced Tests CRT Should Be Used Rather Than Norm Referenced Tests NRT The assessment looks at the wide variety of methods that educators use to evaluate and determined the achievement of the student s educational need. The focus of this essay is to look at the Criterion Referenced Tests (CRT) and the Norm Referenced Tests (NRT) usage to see why the Criterion Referenced Tests should be used rather than the Norm Referenced Tests. The learning standards and the curriculum will be discussed to help determine why the CRT should be used rather than the NRT. Also, we will take a look at the principal use of how the two methods differ by one using survey testing and the other mastery testing. I will give my informed opinion throughout the essay. The Criterion Referenced Tests measure the performance against a fix set of predetermined learning standards. This means that there will be written descriptions of what students are expected to know and are able to do in each learning outcome unit stage in the course. This method of assessment is done to evaluate what skills the student has learned. The learning standards will measure how well a student has mastered the specific skill described in the national learning standards (Waugh Gronlund, 2013). Since the teachers and the schools can develop their own learning standards, this will help the students to be able to accomplish the learning objective performance outcome expected in my opinion. • 32. The Argument For God s Existence And Nature Question 2 In part IX of Hume s Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion, Deamea, the orthodox Christian, confronts Philo s skepticism towards the arguments for God s existence and nature that have thus far be discussed. Deamea presents a version of the ontological argument that he believes should provide undeniable proof of the truths found in religious dogma. However, Philo is not convinced with this argument because of the nature of the argument. Philo describes Deamea s ontological argument as an a priori argument. In Latin a priori is means from before but when this term is used in philosophy it is meant to mean from before experience. These arguments argue for something through the use of empirical evidence. An example of a posteriori knowledge would be the statement, Barack Obama is the current president of the United States. This is an example of empirical information that cannot be proven through reason alone. The different viewpoints between a priori and a posteriori arguments can be seen in works for Thomas Aquinas and Anselm of Canterbury. Both Saints believe that God is self evident. However, Aquinas uses a priori arguments and Anselm uses an a priori argument. I believe that Aquinas does not reject Anselm s argument because it is a priori. Aquinas issues with Anselm s argument lies in Anselm s misuse of his definition of God and humanity s inability to understand this definition. In his ontological argument, Anselm defines God as that than which nothing greater can be thought. According to Aquinas, this is where the main issue lies in Anselm s argument. Aquinas believes that everyone must have the same concept of God in order for Anselm s definition of God to work. Not everyone will define God as that than which nothing greater can be thought. This definition is the basis of Anselm s argument and if people cannot come to define God as Anselm did then the argument fails. Aquinas second issue with Anselm s ontological argument comes from the fact that even if everyone comes to accept God as that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The call feature on telephones can cause privacy issues. Although it is illegal for anyone to listen or record regular phone calls, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act excludes commonplace business calls (Maltby, 2013). This means the employer can record or listen phone calls made about business. Sometimes employers make employees sign forms to consent to phone calls being monitored. Another exception to this act is if the employee has consented to be monitored (Mika, 2012). There are limits to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (Maltby, 2013). A business is supposed to stop listening and hang up when the phone call becomes personal (Maltby, 2013). This cannot be monitored to know if the business is actually following this protocol. Also, the courts rule mainly in the favor of the employer with the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (Mika, 2012). Privacy issues with phones do not just stop with calls. • 37. Summary Of Everyday Life By Goffman Throughout The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, Goffman makes an analogy between self and society, and actors and theater. In the concluding chapter, Goffman begins with a discussion on his theory of self and then proceeds to question his analogy of theater and actors. In choosing to step back, Goffman acknowledges that the book and analogy are part of his opinion, and that others may disagree. While Goffman presents hesitation regarding the use of this analogy, for many readers the analogy allows them to better comprehend the structure of social encounters. Goffman uses actors and the theater to understand something about individuals and the way they interact in everyday life. In his conclusion, Goffman provides a theory of the self. According to Goffman, the self is composed of two parts the performer and the character. The theory being that the self is a performed character. The character being the real self, which is developed because of one s actions. All the actions we make as individuals have risks, and these risks are part of our everyday performances. ... Having read all of Goffman, I believe that his use of the theater is a successful analogy. An analogy is a literary technique used to compare things so that a relationship can be seen between them. The comparison works to get the reader to think about what both things have in common. For much of the book, Goffman describes in detail the similarities between an individual s performance during social interactions and an actor s performance on stage. • 39. Jimmy Carter Literature Review Jimmy Carter was a very avid Christian before, during and after his time in office. He is commonly acknowledged of being one of the most religious presidents in history. The purpose of this literature review is to give an overview of how academia interprets Carter s religiosity. Berggren and Rae (2006) describe Carter as an Evangelical style president with a strong devotion to his corresponding Evangelical Faith. He is referred to being the born again president. Carter had a born again experience during his pre presidential life which supports he was evangelist during this part of his life. In this experience, he questioned his faith after a failed attempt to become governor. It wasn t until his sister, a devout evangelist, spoke to and convinced him that he had not fully dedicated himself to God, that he had a born again realization and devoted himself to Christ. Carter s Evangelical Faith is further supported by him referencing himself as born again and saying, I believe God wants me to be the best politician I can be (Lindsay, 2007). Lindsay s article also reasons that at the beginning of his presidency Carter had a high rate of evangelical approval because these people could easily connect with like minded president. Carter s evangelism religiosity is demonstrated by these two sources before and during his early administration but gives no insight into how might have changed during and after his presidency. Lunenburg Sam Houston State University ABSTRACT Locke and Latham provide a well developed goal setting theory of motivation. The theory emphasizes the important relationship between goals and performance. Research supports predictions that the most effective performance seems to result when goals are specific and challenging, when they are used to evaluate performance and linked to feedback on results, and create commitment and acceptance. The motivational impact of goals may be affected by moderators such as ability and self efficacy. Deadlines improve the effectiveness of goals. A learning goal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Asking organization members to improve, to work harder, or to do your best is not helpful, because that kind of goal does not give them a focused target. FRED C. LUNENBURG _____________________________________________________________________________________3 Specific goals (often quantified) let organization members know what to reach for and allow them to measure their own progress. Research indicates that specific goals help bring about other desirable organizational goals, such as reducing absenteeism, tardiness, and turnover (Locke Latham, 2002). Goals Must Be Difficult but Attainable A goal that is too easily attained will not bring about the desired increments in performance. The key point is that a goal must be difficult as well as specific for it to raise performance. However, there is a limit to this effect. Although organization members will work hard to reach challenging goals, they will only do so when the goals are within their capability. As goals become too difficult, performance suffers because organization members reject the goals as unreasonable and unattainable. A major factor in attainability of a goal is self efficacy (Bandura, 1997). This is an internal belief regarding one s job related capabilities and competencies. If employees have high selfefficacies, they will tend to set higher personal goals under the belief that they are attainable. The first key to successful goal setting is to build and reinforce ... Angry at the lack of awareness, and seeming care, in Australians towards the dead soldiers, Dawe wrote his poem as an elegy to all those who died, and to remind those at home of the terrors they faced in order to defend their country. The poem consists of numerous poetic devices to express the horrors of war to the reader.
