Trends In African-American Music
There are many different genres or categories of music. These can range from the smooth layered
sound of classical music to the harsh thrashy sound of heavy metal in a seemingly endless list of
geners and sub genres. Amongst these genres few have been as influential in contemporary music as
the Blues. The blues can be attributed as being the foundation for many modern generes including
rock and roll and jazz. (Nicole 2005)
The blues are often known for their meloncholic overtones and simplistic chord progressions. These
characteristic are a direct result of the genres origins. During the 19th century in southern America
black slave groups would often sing work songs to pass the time and maintain a steady work pace.
These field hollers were songs with simple meloncholic lyrics, often using a call and response style in
full a capella.(Oliver 1969) The 1890s was a pivitol time in african american history. It saw the change
from black slave labour to paid manual labour bringing with it a sense of indivdualaity for the african
american people.(Davis 2003) In turn using the influences of the old work songs and the current
western trends in music the early blues were formed.
In 1908 the first blues sheet music publication Antonio Maggio s I got the blues was printed. This
sparked an interest in the blues in the black ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rick And Morty Advertisement Analysis
Imagine a grandpa barging into his grandson s bedroom at four in the morning while human sized
slobbering hamburgers continue to enter the bedroom. This is the basis of the thirty second Hardee s
commercial aired on youtube and Adult Swim. The ad heavily relies on the comedic factor of the
cartoon characters from the hit TV show Rick and Morty from Adult Swim. The ad uses literal and
arrangement elements, comedy, and the rhetorical triangle to appeal to the audience to get them to
want to dine at Hardee s with their new hamburger. The Hardee s Rick and Morty advertisement starts
with a shot of Morty, the young boy, in his bedroom which is mostly clean but you can see that the
walls and ceiling are dirty and guck is seeping through it. Morty s ... Show more content on

One by one, the life size hamburgers walk in slobbering on the floor. After this segment, a Hardee s
real photo ad of a hamburger shows up briefly. Many literal elements are visible during the cartoon
segment of the video ad. Color is depicted and is for the most part has a range of colors used but the
colors are primarily muted combined with a few pops of reds. Lines are very curved on every living
thing in the cartoon, but lines to depict the room outlines and furniture are straight. Since it is a
cartoon, there is not much texture as a whole except for elements that crease like blankets and
clothing. As for spacing, objects are tightly packed and cluttered, which creates little space especially
after the hamburgers occupy the once open space. Along with literal elements, there are also many
arrangement elements in this commercial. Since the commercial is set in only one room and one angle,
it is in one point perspective. The commercial opens in Morty s bedroom where the audience can only
see three walls to see all the action and Rick flies in and yells and they have dialogue with each other
but never address the audience which makes it in third person. Most of the emphasis is put on the big

Diction, Imagery, and, Figurative Language in Nighttime...
The poem Nighttime Fires by Regina Barecca explains the speaker s complex view of her father. The
speaker uses imagery to describe her father s strange behaviours after losing his job. Figurative
language is used strategically to explain the memories of this young girl s strange adventures. The
diction in this poem is also used very well helping us to understand why these nighttime fires left such
a lasting impact on this grown woman from when she was only five years old. All of these things are
very important to the progress of the poem and the engagement of the reader. The diction in the poem
is very important, as it would be in any poem, but Barecca chooses her words very nicely to create the
image that she wants us to perceive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker uses imagery repeatedly in this poem so we always know exactly what is happening. we
drove fast toward smoke is said in line 4 which seems really basic but the basics are really import to
the poem because any little descriptive words shape a poem and that is just what Barecca is doing
here. In lines 17 and 18 the speaker describes her father s smile my father smiled a smile from a
secret, brittle heart she says he smiles from a secret brittle heart when he sees a Cadillac in a driveway
which makes the reader think of a malicious smile on the fathers face. The malicious smile in relation
to the Cadillacs and the fact that he likes to see fires in rich neighbourhoods also helps us come to the
conclusion that he finds pleasure in seeing houses of upper class citizens burn, because he is less
fortunate in losing his job, which is a key part to the poem. Another aspect to this poem that is very
important would be the figurative language. The author uses a lot of similes and metaphors throughout
further illustrate this father s ridiculous ways. The speaker uses the simile snaked like dragons to
describe the fire engines, this was a good choice in comparison because when you think of a dragon
you automatically think of bright fires and then when you continue on the thought you think of their

Management Information Systems and Creating a Successful...
Management Information Systems Recommendations Report
For Fictitious Company Globally, retailing is witnessing epic transformations. The use of technology
has fueled upheavals in the retail landscape that are revolutionary in scope, and unprecedented in
nature (Leventon, Gupta Magal, 2011). Technology has advanced from the automation of structured
processes to systems that are truly revolutionary in that they introduce change into the fundamental
business procedures, workflow and management of an organization. Numerous studies have shown
that the employment of new or the updating of a business s existing technology contributes to a firm s
competitive advantage, which in turn creates greater value for the customer (Altshuler, Gelb Henry,
2010; Bharadwaj, 2000; Carr, 2003; Mellville, Kraemer, Ghurbaxani, 2004). The main operational and
human resource challenges for Fictitious Company that will be addressed from a management
information system perspective in this report are: low levels of inventory, manual procurement
procedures, access to new trends, and security and ethical breaches by employees.
A competitive advantage exists when a company is able to deliver the same benefits as competitors
but at a lower cost, or deliver benefits that exceed those of competing products (Porter, 1998). The
operational and human resource challenges experienced by Fictitious Company clearly places the
business at a competitive disadvantage. To address this dilemma it is

Archetypes In Cinderella
The Conflict of Good and Evil; An Analysis of Significant Archetypes in Cinderella The struggle
between good and evil is the primal conflict of the mind, but it is the choices we make that let us
overcome this conflict for the better. The age old tale of Cinderella utilizes this concept and illustrates
a brilliant story about a young woman struggling to achieve true love while simultaneously enduring
arbitrary abuse from her stepmother. Regarding this, the more recent film adaption of the story
directed by Kenneth Branagh extends the same plot into a more symbolic and archetypical piece.
Accordingly, the movie Cinderella, effectively applies several aspects of archetypes from Jung s
literary theory to demonstrate how good always triumphs over evil. The use of significant archetypes
such as the hero looking for true love, a supernatural intervention, and the devil figure, all contribute
to expanding on this theme. Primarily, the heroine looking for love is one of the most substantial
character archetypes that influence the development of the story s charming plot. Specifically, this
archetype applies to the main character; Cinderella, who is purely influenced by the love she has for
the Prince. Despite the barrage of unrelenting abuse from her stepmother, Ella strongly believes that
the prince will return her feelings, which motivates her to plough through her constraints with the aid
of her Fairy God Mother. Regarding this, the antagonist represents the evil in the way of the
protagonist; Cinderella, which is why when she is defeated, it further accentuates the idea of good
triumphing over evil. Overall, using the Hero as lover archetype, the theme of the story is enhanced
and portrayed effectively. Moreover, the supernatural intervention is a slightly less prevalent yet
noteworthy symbolic archetype that aids the closure of the plot. The Fairy God Mother falls under this
example due to her role in assisting the protagonist with her divine and magical powers; explicitly,
equipping Cinderella with a dress, a chariot, and her iconic glass shoes. The Godmother is a spiritual
being who only awakens after realizing Ella s extreme desperation, she promptly aids her with any
necessary gifts which allows her to

Essay about Religious Conflicts with the Iranian Government
The middle east has always been a hot zone for religious and political conflict but more specifically,
Iran. Iran is an Islamic state where Islam is practiced within politics. The Constitution of 1979 runs off
of the basis of Islamic Law. The population of Iran varies upon resources but they are all around the
number of seventy million people. The country is 90 percent Shia Muslim and eight percent Sunni
Muslim.1 The rest of the country is made up of very small minority religions. The minority religions
have very little influence in the country and are easily thrown around by the government and the
majority Shia Muslims. I am going to explain the government system at the national level and then

The Islamic Republic of Iran has a three branch government: Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary.
The Executive branch is headed by the president who is the second most powerful government
official. The president is elected by a national majority vote and is limited to two four year terms,
similar to the United States president. The Assembly of Experts evaluate the leader s actions and meet
with him annually to discuss his performance. The president can also be impeached by two thirds vote
of the Majlis, or parliament.6 The Supreme Leader is the commander in chief of the military. He
appoints all commanders in the armed forces. The Supreme Leader also appoints the head of the
judicial branch, sets state policy, declares war, and starts amendments and sees over them. The
President must be, according to the Constitution, a Shia Muslim. The president selects many vice
presidents and 21 ministers who make up his cabinet. How the president and the leader separate power
has changed with the leaders in control. When Rafsanjani was in office through the 1990 s he made
himself the law and left little room for the president to use his power.7 The legislative branch has a
Majlis and the Guardians Council. The Majlis is a board of 290 deputies and they serve a four year
terms and are elected by the people. Seeing as the majority is Shia Muslims, five seats are reserved for
special religious minorities.

Essay about Writers and Intellectuals in Exile
Writers and Intellectuals in Exile It may be that writers in my position, exiles... are haunted by some
sense of loss, some urge to reclaim, to look back, even at the risk of being mutated into pillars of salt 1
said Salman Rushdie. The loss and love of home is not what constitutes an exilic existence; what
actually and in true sense constitutes it is the chasm between carrying forth and leaving behind and
straddling the two different cultures from two different positions. In my paper, I propose to look at the
two sides of an exilic existence the negative that which has the horrors and trauma with reference to
Adorno and Said; and the positive, that which provides the intellectuals and writers a critical and
reflective insight, and here I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Exile in itself is a traumatic experience and becomes more aggravated owing to the formation of
strong opinionated groups based on the political affiliations or the social construct. Both Adorno and
Said enunciate this predicament of the exiles where isolation becomes so worse that exiled groups
start suspecting their own members. The moment the formation of politically directed groups begin to
take shape, the suspicion and hostility towards those branded as the members of others (Adorno, 33)
too simultaneously commences. Adorno says, The moment when you hope for the slightest sigh of the
same solidarity from them, or even mere sympathy for your own share of the social product of
suffering, they show you the cold shoulder (Adorno, 51 52). The displacements may in many ways be
a calamity and a catastrophe for many. But, there is another side to it too. It is a peculiar and also quite
a compelling point to note that many writers and intellectuals tend to outshine in their displaced
existence. It seems as if the changed environment, the one outside the country of residence acts as a
stimulant for them. The exile becomes a kind of rejuvenation so to say, for Victor Hugo fairly did
experience this change in his fifteen year exile on the island of Guernsey, where he penned some his
famous works. Such writings in the

Malachite Research Paper
Malachite was broken down into small pieces and mixed with charcoal as a fuel in a fire, which was in
a shallow pit or on the ground.
This generated temperatures of over 700 degrees Celsius. This temperature was sufficient in
separating the copper from the rock, however it could not reach a truly molten state.
After a period of time, the reaming copper was gathered.
This copper was then worked cold. Until the development of smelters which could get the copper to a
truly molten state.
This molten copper was then moulded into the desired shape.
The malachite is heated to create copper oxide with the release of carbon dioxide.
The copper oxide is then heated with carbon to get copper

This copper can then be smelted and worked into shape at a molten consistency.
CuCO3xCu(OH)2 → 2 CuO + CO2 + H2O
The copper oxide is heated along with carbon.
2 CuO + C → 2 Cu + CO Cu2CO3(OH)2 2CuO + CO2 + H2O
2CuO + C 2Cu + CO2
Both the modern and ancient way of extracting copper from malachite involves the heating of the
malachite with a form of carbon (pure carbon and Charcoal). The carbon involved is more reactive
than the copper and a displacement reaction occurs, this happens in both methods; however the
ancient method could not see the copper meet a truly molten state for some time, whilst the modern
method can.
The difference between the ancient technique and modern technique to extract copper from malachite
is prominent after the heating stage. The ancient peoples just worked the impure copper when It was
cold after it had been heated, which was very difficult and time consuming. Whilst the modern peoples
go a step further and use electrolysis after it has been heated to form a near perfectly pure sample of
copper. The copper is then smelted so it can be moulded into its desired shape. The main reason for
the difference in technique and result is the technology and knowledge difference in each time period.
The modern people have greater technology and knowledge and can therefor get a purer sample of

Economic Recession In Gone Girl
A central point of the story in Gone Girl is the animosity between Nick and Amy in their marriage.
There are several reasons why these negative feelings exist, but the recession which occurred in the
early 1990s is the first in a long list. The time of Nick and Amy s mutual unemployment, shown
through various memories and diary entries, is remembered by both of the main characters as the point
when their marriage began to degrade. The novel s story has a tendency to exaggerate average
situations into worst case scenarios. Nick and Amy s marriage was perfect in the beginning, but after
the recession grew into a twisted and dysfunctional relationship. This exemplifies the effects of
economic recession and unemployment can have on people. Before

Comparison Of Chuck And Teddy
In the film chuck and Teddy both share similar stature and body structure. Chuck s hair is dark, but it
is not curly in the least bit. Teddy s new partner s effeminate hands and the scar on his left cheek are
both left out entirely of the film. The absence of the scar means the dialogue pertaining to its origin
was also scrapped during the introductory process between the two detectives. Although, there are
subtle visual differences between the two Chucks the character of the original is kept intact and
transferred over appropriately. The mention of Chuck s oriental wife is also cut from the film. So this
means the hardships that Chuck s wife had to endure of both growing up in a camp and later on being
resented by her husband s peers eventually forcing them to relocate was completely absent. Chuck s
spouse is left a mystery and the film instead skips to asking Teddy about his girl. What about you?

Gospel Of Luke Salvation Essay
Luke s Gospel specifically shows special concerns for those that are oppressed, looked down upon,
and outcasts of society. Jesus tends to reach out to those people. Why? Jesus is challenging attitudes
that limit God s care or blessings to any particular group or nation. And then proceeds to insist that the
gospel proclaimed is a message of hope for all people. Salvation is a huge part of the Gospel of Luke,
there are a plethora of examples of what it means to be saved. And in the many examples found in the
Gospel of Luke, it is either God/Jesus, or their respective actions that bring salvation. Tax Collectors
fall under that category of those that believed in the time of Jesus that salvation was not quite
available to them.
Tax Collectors were not highly respected in Roman Territories. The people hated the tax collectors for
several reasons. First and foremost, they were tax collectors. And that meant in Rome you could tax
whatever amount you wanted as long as Rome got their base taxes. So often, as I m sure most of you
may know, they would abuse that power and get a lot of money that way. It s like if you got a $500 tax

having to pay them. And then someone like Zacchaeus comes along and says actually that bill is

The Open Boat by Stephen Crane
The Open Boat
The relationship between man and nature
Many stories talk about the idea of fate, the idea that no matter how much a person tries to survive,
nature ultimately chooses the person s path of life. The short story, The Open Boat by Stephen Crane
illustrates the relationship between nature and man and how nature s indifference towards man s effort
for survival. In this account, the narrator, Stephen Crane explains to the readers that no matter how
hard one tries to fight nature in order to survive, at the end nature will ultimately take its course and
kill off the unwanted humans that are in its way.
i. The significance of the setting ii. Stylistic devices of color iii. Use of animal characteristics and god
characteristics iv. Repetition
v. Brotherhood but ultimately a fight for themselves
The setting of the story is one example of nature s determining the fate of the four people on the
shipwreck boat. The story opens with the four men struggling for survival by telling the readers, none
of them knew the color of the sky... the men knew the colors of the sea (shorter seventh edition, 189).
This presents the mood of confusion and stress because it shows that they are focusing on their own
issues to survive the waves of the ocean as opposed to looking at the clouds and daydreaming.
Additionally, the article Contemplating Sand and Trees in The Open Boat and the Odyssey explains
that this quote reflects the uncertainty and loneliness of the situation, as

Fourth, political culture is stable.
Policy core beliefs are presumed to be stable and quite resistant to change. When experiences expose
serious anomalies (in the sense that Thomas Kuhn, 1962, used the term) in policy core beliefs, these
beliefs may be susceptible to change. But change that results in dissonance with deep core beliefs is
very costly, and policy core beliefs are buttressed by a formidable array of cognitive defenses that
make change unlikely (e.g., Gilovich, Griffin, Kahneman, 2002). (Belief System Continuity and

The Role Of Leadership As A Change Management

Twin Research Paper
What s the true meaning of being a twin? Some would say a mirror image, a replica, or as in Biology;
a didymous. I can honestly say that none of those descriptions represent my twin brother and I. People
naturally, and erroneously conclude that twins will look, think, and act alike. Often forgotten are the
obvious facts that we are not one, but two unique human beings leaving our own footprint on this
planet. We leave different imprints on this earth with our varying talents and goals. We share ourselves
with others in contrasting ways, and leave distinct impressions on everyone we interact with. My
brother and I come from the same upbringing, therefore we certainly have similar mannerisms, no
different than siblings who are not twins. There is however, a unique ... Show more content on

At birth he was 2 pounds and 9 ounces and I was 2 pounds and 11 ounces. Premature births are very

proved the doctors wrong. After many months in the hospital we both were able to come home as

Growing up we were close as one would expect of twins. Yet we were so opposite that many people

In fact, there was an instance when my brother and I had the same class. In addition to my brother and

The meaning of outsider is the person in part of the society. They obey and converge in the social

A Dream Deferred And Langston Hughes Comparison
The novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes and Hope by
Karen Hesse are three bodies of writing that share many similarities in how they use rhetoric to
develop overarching themes. First, A Dream Deferred uses personification to get it s theme across. It
states What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore
And then run? The author first uses a simile and compares a dream that is deferred to a raisin that dry
s up and the next line asks whether it festers like a sore and then run which is also a simile and
personification because dreams can t run. The poem A Dream Deferred questions what happens to a
dream that fails or goes unrealized. Where does

Natural Resources: Soil

Evan and Ronin This is soil. It is made up of four layers, each filled with air, water, minerals and
organic matter underneath the surface of the Earth. Some of these are found deeper under the soil than
others. It is made up of many different things, and we humans cannot live without it. Soil is the
foundation for many things, essential to many things that keep humans alive, and are needed for the
survival for all living things on the planet. Without soil, things would disappear, things that humans

##ethical Analysis Of Bradley Strawser s Moral Predators...
In Bradley Strawser s Moral Predators, Strawser argues that we are obligated to employ uninhabited
aerial vehicles (UAVs) weapon systems if it can be shown that their use does not significantly reduce a
warfighter s operational capability. By their very nature UAVs evoke many ethical questions most of
which are addressed by Strawser, who stresses there is no downside to UAVs. I would argue there are
certainly some downsides to this technology. The aim of this paper is to provide legitimate moral
objections to using drones in warfare.
The first issue concerning UAVs deals with the inability for an opponent to surrender under the attack
of a UAV strike. Additionally, I will discuss the possible increased inclination to start war ... Show

Collateral damage is a immoral justification for downplaying the killing of innocent people those of
which UAVs still contribute to. That said, there is data to show that UAVs cause less collateral damage
than traditional warfare technologies, but they may, at the same time, make war seem similar to a
computer game, risk free and easy to pull the trigger. This leads me to consider the possibility that
there is a lower threshold for their use and increased inclination for UAVs to proliferate and, perhaps,
provoke a state of war. For obvious reasons (UAV pilots operating from hundreds or thousands of
miles away), there s less risk of injury and death to our soldiers lives, which may have an affect on the
impetus to start a war.
It is important to analyze the historical implications of UAVs. Would the United states have entered
war with Persian Gulf, Kosovo or Iraq if there was potential for retaliation on U.S soil. Would the the
United States have entered those wars, if those countries could choose to counter attack with UAVs? A
question of proportionate response also creates reasons to believe there are moral downsides to count
against using drones. The increase of asymmetric warfare techniques by one side of the conflict leads
to the rise of a response in asymmetric warfare by the other side. It is not difficult to see similarities
between drones and suicide bombers: one is high tech and the other low tech, neither gives the other

bomb was dropped on Hiroshima; an unclear, incomprehensible gossip reached the city that the city

The Pros And Cons Of Insanity Defense
1. Incorporating the assumptions of one of the below learning theories (also feel free to research the
online library, Internet etc for information on these two theories), make an argument either for or
against the insanity defense, that is, should it be allowed and or abolished...and specifically why?
2. Do you believe that ecological approaches have a valid place in contemporary criminological
thinking? Specifically...why or why not?
Insanity Defense should be abolished in that it serves as an excuse for criminals to get away with
crime and as such, it should be abolished. This opinion is similar to those echoed by other scholars.
For instance, Perlin (2016) noted that if the government is sincere about protecting the public, then the
mental condition of the individual at the time the crime is committed is immaterial. Currently, a lot of
time is wasted during trials with psychiatrists running scenarios of what might be wrong with the
accused.
Secondly, it is interesting to realize that in all the insanity defense cases, the defense psychiatrist
always says the accused is insane while the prosecution psychiatrist always maintain that the accused
is sane. The consistency of this trend rules out the laws of chance, thus leaving the whole approach as
a victim of manipulation from either the prosecution or defense side. This shows that the insanity
defense can be manipulated by either side so as to serve their own interest. In most cases, the insanity
defense is normally used

White Males And The American Writers
In this nature writing course and in all my literature courses there haven t been many African
American writers represented. This isn t because they don t exist, but because the more commonly
known writers have the attributes of being more respected, and are widely accepted writers in
American literature, who majority of the time are white males like Thoreau and Leopold. These are
just examples, and they are good writers but there are also good African American writers that deserve
just as much representation when teaching college courses. There s a greater choice of writers besides
having the same works of authors we ve already read throughout our experience in studying literature.
There needs to be a better variety of cultures represented in literature, white males shouldn t always be
the most read and studied authors in public institutions. Minorities should be represented too,
especially African American writers since they played such a great role in the American history, and
endured so much oppression from the society they ve lived in. In this course, Nature Writing at
metropolitan University, we had a variety of different races, but the Black race didn t get the
representation they deserved. There was a writing titled, from a black boy by Wright, and it wasn t a

COP 3330 Object Oriented Programming
Daniel Gutierrez

Object oriented programming at its core is a practice of strategic thinking. Essentially, in OOP we tend
to focus on objects rather than actions and data rather than logic. A key step in OOP is identifying the
objects one wants to manipulate and observing how they relate to each other. The basic idea of OOP
involves breaking up the code into objects that can message each other, which proves to be very
beneficial. To better understand and use object oriented programming as intended, I decided to
investigate two different languages that implement the object oriented approach to programming. I
chose Java because I am already familiar with the syntax and its ... Show more content on

C# is a general purpose programming language as part of Microsoft s .NET initiative. It was designed
for the Common Language Infrastructure (CLI). C# applications are compiled into bytecode that can
run on implementations of the CLI. The fact that Microsoft own Visual Studio means that the IDE is
not easily accessible to anyone, as Java is. That is later mentioned in the differences between the two.
From an article that suggests that C# is an evolution of Java, I was able to gather evidence on the
similarities between them and understand the ways that C# actually improves upon, when compared to
Java. An interesting discovery in my research was that the keywords in Java language are very similar
to the ones in C#; for example, new, bool, this, break, static, class, throw, virtual, and null. But they
are a few different keywords in C# that simply are not the same as in Java. Furthermore, C# and Java
share the same primitive data types, with the exception that C# uses the System namespace regarding
those objects. In C# and Java, there is built in garbage collection, it helps prevent memory leaks by
removing objects that are no longer being used by the application. Basically, this means that, although
memory leaks can occur, memory management is pretty much taken care for you. From an article that

Major Demographic Changes in the Middle East and North Africa
The major demographic changes in the Middle East and North Africa have been the massive increase
in population, and urbanization which has seen the emergence of many large cities throughout the

economic opportunities in the cities and political changes. During the late eighteenth and early

Planning For Non Traditional Families
Worldview Position Paper Planning for non traditional families is becoming more of an issue as the
homosexual rights agenda spreads across America. This issue comes from redefining the family. The
legal chaos and moral chaos as well that comes from redefining the family, is also referred to as the
homosexual agenda and has far reaching impacts. Rodney Chrisman, Legal Chaos: Relating to
Redefining the Family (2011). The homosexual agenda has unique concerns when creating an estate
plan. From Christian worldview estate planning for these non traditional families become a tough
issue at first glance but when treated by using instruction from the bible can become just as easy as
estate planning for traditional families by acting with respect and love as well as to plan accordingly
and take note of the state s guidelines for non traditional families. Estate planning is for everyone not
just the wealthy and traditional, and if one does not plan and have their wishes written down then the
state will plan and disburse assets according to each states laws and statutes. When a client first walks
into the office the paralegal must treat him as a client. For a Christian estate planner this step can
become difficult with non traditional families, however, the bible is very clear on how to treat others.
Paralegals should treat non traditional families with the same love and grace that God has shown to
all. All of us are sinners. Honor as a person made in the image of God. Rodney

Meaning that she may dress as Alyssa for social events and outings. On the other hand, Debra is a

Being transgender greatly involves identity, naïve realism, ethnocentrism, and relativism. This relates
to ethnocentrism because one who is not transgender or doesn t have a clear understanding may feel as
though it isn t necessary. I define ethnocentrism as the belief that one s own behavior and beliefs are
superior to others. In many cases, some people have even acted upon their sense of ethnocentrism
committing hate crimes, homicide, or even murder. This is a reflection of their belief that they are
superior. This also is a reflection of how societies enforce this concept of gender and feel threated
when someone breaks the boundary. As one of my classmates said, looking at gender from a religious
aspect, God is a sort of genderless being and when one is struggling with gender identity or
transgender, it may appear as though they are making a statement. One that is telling everyone else
that they are on the same level as God. Naïve realism relates to what the guest speakers discussed
because they explained that there are a lot of people who tend to kind of stop and stare at them simply
because they look different; they are foreign to them. To those who don t understand being
transgender, they may not understand how someone could such an identity crisis, as the feeling cannot
be perceived by one who has not endured it. I found this to especially relate to identity because among
age, language, and various other things, gender is one of the primary characteristics used to define
self. If someone is experiencing an identity crisis, to whatever extent, that s related to gender it
directly correlates with the concept of identity we ve been learning about in class. Understanding the
concept of being transgender may require a sense of cultural relativism. I define relativism as the
attempt to understand another culture s way of life from their own perspective. If someone is wanting

Two thousand years later, in our modern society people sit
by the water cooler and talk about Sunday football game. In this way modern professional sports
are the same as the Roman games of two thousand years past. Sports today give the average Joe a
six pack something to keep his or her (if you are Jill six pack) mind occupied. Sports of today are
mainly driven like almost everything else in our society by money.

Douglas Haig s Great Contribution to World War I Essays
Douglas Haig (1861 1928) was one of the most renowned soldiers during World War I. He became the
Commander in Chief of the British Expeditionary Forces and led very decisive battles at the Battles of
Some and Passchendaele. He also was able to stop the Germans last offensive (March July 1918)
which ultimately led him to create a veteran s facility called the Royal British Legion. This caused him
to be elected to be an earl in 1919 . Douglas Haig became Commander in Chief of British

The same results would also happen at the Battle of Passchendaele. July 31, 1917, when Haig
appointed an offensive minded general (Sir Hubert Gough) to command, and pressed him to plan a
decisive breakthrough, rather than a step by step advance.11 Again, this battle turn out to be a
technicality win for Great Britain, however, they faced high casualties. These efforts obviously
weakened Germany tremendously; however, the cost of lives was too high to really see any progress
in their efforts. Haig has been criticized by many people over the years due to his plans that caused
high casualties. The wartime Prime Minister, David Lloyd George, was one such critic. He wrote that
he sometimes wondered whether he should have resigned on more than one occasion rather than
permit Haig to continue with his strategy.12 In Haig s defense, he was forced to apply pressure on
France He had to push up his plans one month in advanced. That s plausible reasoning to why his

Visit Of The Mcdonald s On Okeechobee Boulevard
For this assignment I chose to visit the McDonald s on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach
and the Chick Fil A on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard in West Palm Beach. I visited McDonald s first
just after what could be considered the dinner rush. When walking into the store the first thing I
noticed was the floor was fairly dirty, especially near the trash receptacles. There were clearly visible
items of food that had fallen off of people s trays as they attempted to clear their trays off. I got into
the line to order and noticed that there were three people ahead of me. There was only one McDonald
s employee working the registers while I saw another standing by on their cell phone. I believe the
second employee not working the registers was a manager. She was unaware of the line that had
grown and when she looked up she signed into a register to help. I had gone into the store with the
intention of only ordering a sweet tea, but if I were to have been offered an item I would buy it. I gave
my order to the manager of only a sweet tea and she gave me my total. It was interesting to see that
the manager did not try to upsell my order as I was only getting a $1 drink. As the drinks were a self
service, I went to go get the sweet tea and found they were out of sweet tea. I informed the manager
and she said they would get another one out. Rather than get a different drink I decided to wait to see
how long it would take the staff to replace the sweet tea. Once the manager told

Siddhartha By Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha Essay
In the short story Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha, the protagonist of the story was led on a
journey to reach enlightenment. Through his many realizations occurring in stages and phases,
Siddhartha experienced emotional, mental and physical changes. These stages marked the journey
Siddhartha underwent, and the destined metamorphism developed as he followed the path of
enlightenment.
In Siddhartha s first phase, Siddhartha, a wealthy Brahmin found that even though everyone loved
him, he could not bring himself joy and please himself (Hesse). This discontent was spurred by the
fact that the wise Brahmins had shared the majority and the best of their wisdom with him; yet, he was
not satisfied nor did this quench his thirst for knowledge but only fueled it (Hesse). Questions arose,
about sacrifices, happiness and Atman, did he who possessed so much wisdom live a blessed life
(Hesse)? At this moment in Siddhartha s life, he was without peace and he wanted to find answers to
these many questions. Focused and hellbent on the journey to enlightenment, Siddhartha made an
audacious decision to go to the Samanas [and] become a Samana (Hesse). Through hours of an
impasse between Siddharth and his father, his father finally agreed to let Siddhartha continue his life
journey that began with becoming a Samana. Through this phase, Siddhartha learned he was
unsatisfied with practices such as sacrificing, and that he had already achieved the wisdom obtainable

The Concept Of Capacity And Capacity Utilization
1.2 The concept of capacity and capacity utilization
Capacity is very important but least understood concept in manufacturing and business world
(Klammer,1996). Different categories of people in business and manufacturing measure capacity
differently. For example, some financial managers might measure plant capacity in terms of the
equipment installed in the plant while operational supervisors might measure capacity in terms of
worker efficiency. Klein Summers ,(1996) defined an organization s productive capacity as the total
level of output or production that it could produce in a given time period . Capacity utilization is the
percentage of the firm s total possible production capacity that is being used. Therefore, an
organization should be most efficient if it is running at 100% capacity utilization. An organization s
full capacity is the minimum point on total cost function, a full input point on the aggregate
production function and a bottleneck point in a general equilibrium system. Full capacity should be
defined as a realizable level of output that can be attained under normal input conditions without
prolonging accepted working ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the existence of excess capacity is often cited as evidence indicating the presence of
monopolistic elements within individual industries. The notion of Capacity utilization is also widely
used in business cycle analysis to characterize the situation of individual industries or whole
economies and to assess the appropriateness of economic policy. It also plays an important role in
econometric models in estimation of the relative significance of the determinants in investment,
imports etc. The concept of capacity relates to output. It is therefore different from concepts referring
to a single factor of production such as the degree of utilization of

Gender Inequality Throughout The s The Middleton s ``...
In The Revenger s Tragedy, Middleton presents a look at gender inequality in the early 1600 s through
characters like the Duchess. He allows these characters a level of agency in which their actions are
either punished or rewarded depending on the socially acceptable rules established by the patriarchal
hierarchy in the play. Similarly, in Webster s Duchess of Malfi, a parallel examination is made where
the Duchess is given a certain degree of agency and is ultimately killed for her actions in the play.
Both Duchess in Middleton and Webster s plays, rebel against the patriarchal hierarchy and are
punished by the male characters in the plays. The treatment of women in these plays constructs the
ideal moral woman through inappropriately deemed actions. In The Duchess of Malfi, the Duchess is
presented as a widow whose brothers end up determining her fate by constructing rules for how she is
to live. Ferdinand and the Cardinal both caution the Duchess in the first act that marrying or engaging
in a relationship again would tarnish her reputation. The Cardinal is also skeptical of the Duchess
resolve remarking, So most widows say, but commonly that motion lasts no longer than the turning of
an hourglass after the Duchess says she will never marry again (Webster 1765). Ferdinand also
displays skepticism by saying, And women like that part which, like the lamprey, hath nev r a bone in
t and enforces his remark by showing his sister a dagger. The entire scene showcases the

Web Technology
On March 2009, CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research celebrated the 20th
anniversary of the Web (CERN, 2009).With internet users accounting for 28.5% of the world
population in June 2010 (Internet World Stats, 2011), the web s growth and use have become an
integral part of modern day living whether for business or entertainment. Its impact and usage in today
s world is even more remarkable considering its humble beginnings and origin. For many people the
differences between the internet and the web are not clear and in many cases in day to day
conversations these terms are used interchangeably to mean the same thing. Therefore to help

Although his idea provoked little response, Berners continued in the development of his idea using an
at the time new and very specialised personal computer called the NeXT. Development of his ideas
was based on the existing technologies of TCP/IP as his chosen network protocol and hypertext. Later
joined by CERN engineer Robert Cailliau (Appendix a), Berners began to revise his ideas and started
writing the code for his project. From early on, he decided that all programs involved with his project
should have acronyms starting with HT for hypertext. This resulted in what we now know as the
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) used to link hypertext document over the internet, and Hypertext
Markup Language (HTML) a language for formatting and structuring the hypertext documents. The
development of HTML would become apparent in its use when he wrote the programme for the
worlds first web browser which he called the WorldWideWeb browser. Although this only ran on the
NeXT computer system, its Graphical User Interface (GUI) was the first step towards making the web
an interactive medium (CERN, 2008) that would make surfing the internet more accessible to people.
Along with HTTP and HTML, Berners also developed a way of giving documents addresses for
location using a Universal Resource Identifier (URI) which we now more commonly know as a URL

Speech On Post Impressionism
Theory History of Art: Group presentations
Jewel Eng, Tricia Sng, Faith Lee, Isaac Low Nina S.D
VA 2.4
Good morning to everyone. Today, we will be delving into the topic of post impressionism, and
specifically on Vincent Van Gogh.
Beginning slide (Slide: Jewel)
What is the context of the art movement? (Tricia, Slide: Tricia)
Post impressionism, which was primarily a French art movement, developed approximately between
1886 and 1905. Subdivisions of Post impressionism include Divisionism and Pointillism, which
involves using dots and patches of color to form a picture. Due to these characteristics, post
impressionism ushered in a new era of painting, and paved the way for many future art movements
such as fauvism and cubism.
Its antecedent being Impressionism, post impressionism contains traces of elements from that
movement, but has its own diverging styles too. For example, the main difference between
impressionism and post impressionism is that wh impressionism emphasised on accurately depicting
light and its changing qualities, post impressionism focused on showing the artist s memories and their
emotions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Jewel, Slide: Jewel Faith)
One of the main characteristics of post impressionism is the use of pure and rich colours which are
applied thickly, forming multiple layers of paint. Not only is it applied to formed thick layers, the
paint is applied in short, swift brushstrokes. Structure and form are heavily present in post
impressionism artworks. On top of that, post impressionism artworks tend to more expression of
emotions. This was due to the fact that artists focused on using symbolic and personal meanings in
hopes of connecting with the viewer on a deeper and less impersonal

Georgia OKeefe Black Iris Analysis
Description Black Iris is a 1926 painting by artist Georgia O Keefe. The painting is especially notable
for its monumental size and acute attention to detail, which in turn allowed O Keefe to force[] the
viewer to observe the small details that might otherwise be overlooked ( Black Iris ). This attention is
particularly focused on color and form, accentuating the gradation in the flower from dark purples to
light greys and pinks along with the iris s curvaceous shape. O Keefe produced many similar immense
paintings of flowers. Both Black Iris and O Keefe s other flower works are ostensibly only a large
scale portrayal of a flower meant to evoke appreciation of the objects in nature that often go unnoticed
and nothing more. Nonetheless, one of the most common interpretations of the flowers, and especially
Black Iris, is that they are depictions of female genitalia (Ellis Petersen). Black Iris is said to contain
highly evocative and sensual overtones and a near eroticism (Widewalls Editorial). O Keefe met the
interpretations of works like Black Iris as erotic with vehement denials, stating: I made you take time
to look at what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower, you hung all your own
associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower as if I think and see what you
think and see of the flower and I don t, those associations being that flowers themselves look like
female genitalia ( What do you see in Georgia O Keeffe s flowers? and Widewalls Editorial). Some
who agree with the erotic interpretation of Black Iris and O Keefe s other flowers see the work as a
reclamation of femininity and female sexuality, while others go even further in identifying O Keefe in
a lineage of art by queer women, claiming the work as part of a lesbian tradition extending back to the
eighteenth century ( What do you see ). Platonic Analysis If reading Black Iris as a portrait of female
genitalia disguised as flower, the work takes its place on the second rung of the Ladder of Love. This
second rung involves becoming a lover of all beautiful bodies rather than just one because the beauty
on any body whatever is akin to that on any other body (Plato 210b). In Symposium,

  • 3. Trends In African-American Music There are many different genres or categories of music. These can range from the smooth layered sound of classical music to the harsh thrashy sound of heavy metal in a seemingly endless list of geners and sub genres. Amongst these genres few have been as influential in contemporary music as the Blues. The blues can be attributed as being the foundation for many modern generes including rock and roll and jazz. (Nicole 2005) The blues are often known for their meloncholic overtones and simplistic chord progressions. These characteristic are a direct result of the genres origins. During the 19th century in southern America black slave groups would often sing work songs to pass the time and maintain a steady work pace. These field hollers were songs with simple meloncholic lyrics, often using a call and response style in full a capella.(Oliver 1969) The 1890s was a pivitol time in african american history. It saw the change from black slave labour to paid manual labour bringing with it a sense of indivdualaity for the african american people.(Davis 2003) In turn using the influences of the old work songs and the current western trends in music the early blues were formed. • 4. Rick And Morty Advertisement Analysis Imagine a grandpa barging into his grandson s bedroom at four in the morning while human sized slobbering hamburgers continue to enter the bedroom. This is the basis of the thirty second Hardee s commercial aired on youtube and Adult Swim. The ad heavily relies on the comedic factor of the cartoon characters from the hit TV show Rick and Morty from Adult Swim. The ad uses literal and arrangement elements, comedy, and the rhetorical triangle to appeal to the audience to get them to want to dine at Hardee s with their new hamburger. After this segment, a Hardee s real photo ad of a hamburger shows up briefly. Many literal elements are visible during the cartoon segment of the video ad. Lines are very curved on every living thing in the cartoon, but lines to depict the room outlines and furniture are straight. Since it is a cartoon, there is not much texture as a whole except for elements that crease like blankets and clothing. As for spacing, objects are tightly packed and cluttered, which creates little space especially after the hamburgers occupy the once open space. Along with literal elements, there are also many arrangement elements in this commercial. Since the commercial is set in only one room and one angle, it is in one point perspective. • 5. Diction, Imagery, and, Figurative Language in Nighttime... The poem Nighttime Fires by Regina Barecca explains the speaker s complex view of her father. The speaker uses imagery to describe her father s strange behaviours after losing his job. Figurative language is used strategically to explain the memories of this young girl s strange adventures. The diction in this poem is also used very well helping us to understand why these nighttime fires left such a lasting impact on this grown woman from when she was only five years old. All of these things are very important to the progress of the poem and the engagement of the reader. The diction in the poem is very important, as it would be in any poem, but Barecca chooses her words very nicely to create the image that she wants us to perceive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker uses imagery repeatedly in this poem so we always know exactly what is happening. we drove fast toward smoke is said in line 4 which seems really basic but the basics are really import to the poem because any little descriptive words shape a poem and that is just what Barecca is doing here. In lines 17 and 18 the speaker describes her father s smile my father smiled a smile from a secret, brittle heart she says he smiles from a secret brittle heart when he sees a Cadillac in a driveway which makes the reader think of a malicious smile on the fathers face. The malicious smile in relation to the Cadillacs and the fact that he likes to see fires in rich neighbourhoods also helps us come to the conclusion that he finds pleasure in seeing houses of upper class citizens burn, because he is less fortunate in losing his job, which is a key part to the poem. Another aspect to this poem that is very important would be the figurative language. The author uses a lot of similes and metaphors throughout further illustrate this father s ridiculous ways. The speaker uses the simile snaked like dragons to describe the fire engines, this was a good choice in comparison because when you think of a dragon you automatically think of bright fires and then when you continue on the thought you think of their crouched down tiptoes Card 3 through corners. • 6. Management Information Systems and Creating a Successful... Management Information Systems Recommendations Report For Fictitious Company Globally, retailing is witnessing epic transformations. The use of technology has fueled upheavals in the retail landscape that are revolutionary in scope, and unprecedented in nature (Leventon, Gupta Magal, 2011). Technology has advanced from the automation of structured processes to systems that are truly revolutionary in that they introduce change into the fundamental business procedures, workflow and management of an organization. Numerous studies have shown that the employment of new or the updating of a business s existing technology contributes to a firm s competitive advantage, which in turn creates greater value for the customer (Altshuler, Gelb Henry, 2010; Bharadwaj, 2000; Carr, 2003; Mellville, Kraemer, Ghurbaxani, 2004). The main operational and human resource challenges for Fictitious Company that will be addressed from a management information system perspective in this report are: low levels of inventory, manual procurement procedures, access to new trends, and security and ethical breaches by employees. A competitive advantage exists when a company is able to deliver the same benefits as competitors but at a lower cost, or deliver benefits that exceed those of competing products (Porter, 1998). • 7. Archetypes In Cinderella The Conflict of Good and Evil; An Analysis of Significant Archetypes in Cinderella The struggle between good and evil is the primal conflict of the mind, but it is the choices we make that let us overcome this conflict for the better. The age old tale of Cinderella utilizes this concept and illustrates a brilliant story about a young woman struggling to achieve true love while simultaneously enduring arbitrary abuse from her stepmother. Regarding this, the more recent film adaption of the story directed by Kenneth Branagh extends the same plot into a more symbolic and archetypical piece. Accordingly, the movie Cinderella, effectively applies several aspects of archetypes from Jung s literary theory to demonstrate how good always triumphs over evil. The use of significant archetypes such as the hero looking for true love, a supernatural intervention, and the devil figure, all contribute to expanding on this theme. Primarily, the heroine looking for love is one of the most substantial character archetypes that influence the development of the story s charming plot. Specifically, this archetype applies to the main character; Cinderella, who is purely influenced by the love she has for the Prince. Despite the barrage of unrelenting abuse from her stepmother, Ella strongly believes that the prince will return her feelings, which motivates her to plough through her constraints with the aid of her Fairy God Mother. Regarding this, the antagonist represents the evil in the way of the protagonist; Cinderella, which is why when she is defeated, it further accentuates the idea of good triumphing over evil. Overall, using the Hero as lover archetype, the theme of the story is enhanced and portrayed effectively. Moreover, the supernatural intervention is a slightly less prevalent yet noteworthy symbolic archetype that aids the closure of the plot. The Fairy God Mother falls under this example due to her role in assisting the protagonist with her divine and magical powers; explicitly, equipping Cinderella with a dress, a chariot, and her iconic glass shoes. The Godmother is a spiritual being who only awakens after realizing Ella s extreme desperation, she promptly aids her with any necessary gifts which allows her to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Assembly of Experts evaluate the leader s actions and meet with him annually to discuss his performance. The president can also be impeached by two thirds vote of the Majlis, or parliament.6 The Supreme Leader is the commander in chief of the military. He appoints all commanders in the armed forces. • 10. Essay about Writers and Intellectuals in Exile Writers and Intellectuals in Exile It may be that writers in my position, exiles... are haunted by some sense of loss, some urge to reclaim, to look back, even at the risk of being mutated into pillars of salt 1 said Salman Rushdie. The loss and love of home is not what constitutes an exilic existence; what actually and in true sense constitutes it is the chasm between carrying forth and leaving behind and straddling the two different cultures from two different positions. In my paper, I propose to look at the two sides of an exilic existence the negative that which has the horrors and trauma with reference to Adorno and Said; and the positive, that which provides the intellectuals and writers a critical and reflective insight, and here I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Exile in itself is a traumatic experience and becomes more aggravated owing to the formation of strong opinionated groups based on the political affiliations or the social construct. Both Adorno and Said enunciate this predicament of the exiles where isolation becomes so worse that exiled groups start suspecting their own members. The moment the formation of politically directed groups begin to take shape, the suspicion and hostility towards those branded as the members of others (Adorno, 33) too simultaneously commences. Adorno says, The moment when you hope for the slightest sigh of the same solidarity from them, or even mere sympathy for your own share of the social product of suffering, they show you the cold shoulder (Adorno, 51 52). The displacements may in many ways be a calamity and a catastrophe for many. But, there is another side to it too. It is a peculiar and also quite a compelling point to note that many writers and intellectuals tend to outshine in their displaced existence. It seems as if the changed environment, the one outside the country of residence acts as a stimulant for them. The exile becomes a kind of rejuvenation so to say, for Victor Hugo fairly did experience this change in his fifteen year exile on the island of Guernsey, where he penned some his famous works. • 11. Malachite Research Paper Malachite was broken down into small pieces and mixed with charcoal as a fuel in a fire, which was in a shallow pit or on the ground. This generated temperatures of over 700 degrees Celsius. This temperature was sufficient in separating the copper from the rock, however it could not reach a truly molten state. After a period of time, the reaming copper was gathered. This copper was then worked cold. Until the development of smelters which could get the copper to a truly molten state. The carbon involved is more reactive than the copper and a displacement reaction occurs, this happens in both methods; however the ancient method could not see the copper meet a truly molten state for some time, whilst the modern method can. The difference between the ancient technique and modern technique to extract copper from malachite is prominent after the heating stage. The ancient peoples just worked the impure copper when It was cold after it had been heated, which was very difficult and time consuming. Whilst the modern peoples go a step further and use electrolysis after it has been heated to form a near perfectly pure sample of copper. The copper is then smelted so it can be moulded into its desired shape. The main reason for the difference in technique and result is the technology and knowledge difference in each time period. In this account, the narrator, Stephen Crane explains to the readers that no matter how hard one tries to fight nature in order to survive, at the end nature will ultimately take its course and kill off the unwanted humans that are in its way. i. The significance of the setting ii. Stylistic devices of color iii. Use of animal characteristics and god characteristics iv. Repetition v. Brotherhood but ultimately a fight for themselves The setting of the story is one example of nature s determining the fate of the four people on the shipwreck boat. The story opens with the four men struggling for survival by telling the readers, none of them knew the color of the sky... the men knew the colors of the sea (shorter seventh edition, 189). This presents the mood of confusion and stress because it shows that they are focusing on their own issues to survive the waves of the ocean as opposed to looking at the clouds and daydreaming. Additionally, the article Contemplating Sand and Trees in The Open Boat and the Odyssey explains that this quote reflects the uncertainty and loneliness of the situation, as ... (Marshall, Mitchell and Wirt, 1989) Heck echoed them and said The rhetoric that emerged during each of the periods resulted in educational policies that were symbolic expressions of these values and preferences. Educational policies are explicit expressions of underlying cultural values. (Heck, 2004). Garms, Guthrie, and Pierce (1978) further suggested, that the outcomes of public policy can be predicted to some extent by careful examination of the cultural system in which they are made. . Fourth, political culture is stable. Policy core beliefs are presumed to be stable and quite resistant to change. When experiences expose serious anomalies (in the sense that Thomas Kuhn, 1962, used the term) in policy core beliefs, these beliefs may be susceptible to change. But change that results in dissonance with deep core beliefs is very costly, and policy core beliefs are buttressed by a formidable array of cognitive defenses that make change unlikely (e.g., Gilovich, Griffin, Kahneman, 2002). In Bradley Strawser s Moral Predators, Strawser argues that we are obligated to employ uninhabited aerial vehicles (UAVs) weapon systems if it can be shown that their use does not significantly reduce a warfighter s operational capability. By their very nature UAVs evoke many ethical questions most of which are addressed by Strawser, who stresses there is no downside to UAVs. I would argue there are certainly some downsides to this technology. The aim of this paper is to provide legitimate moral objections to using drones in warfare. The first issue concerning UAVs deals with the inability for an opponent to surrender under the attack of a UAV strike. Collateral damage is a immoral justification for downplaying the killing of innocent people those of which UAVs still contribute to. That said, there is data to show that UAVs cause less collateral damage than traditional warfare technologies, but they may, at the same time, make war seem similar to a computer game, risk free and easy to pull the trigger. This leads me to consider the possibility that there is a lower threshold for their use and increased inclination for UAVs to proliferate and, perhaps, provoke a state of war. For obvious reasons (UAV pilots operating from hundreds or thousands of miles away), there s less risk of injury and death to our soldiers lives, which may have an affect on the impetus to start a war. It is important to analyze the historical implications of UAVs. Would the United states have entered war with Persian Gulf, Kosovo or Iraq if there was potential for retaliation on U.S soil. Would the the United States have entered those wars, if those countries could choose to counter attack with UAVs? A question of proportionate response also creates reasons to believe there are moral downsides to count against using drones. The increase of asymmetric warfare techniques by one side of the conflict leads to the rise of a response in asymmetric warfare by the other side. Do you believe that ecological approaches have a valid place in contemporary criminological thinking? Specifically...why or why not? Insanity Defense should be abolished in that it serves as an excuse for criminals to get away with crime and as such, it should be abolished. This opinion is similar to those echoed by other scholars. For instance, Perlin (2016) noted that if the government is sincere about protecting the public, then the mental condition of the individual at the time the crime is committed is immaterial. Currently, a lot of time is wasted during trials with psychiatrists running scenarios of what might be wrong with the accused. Secondly, it is interesting to realize that in all the insanity defense cases, the defense psychiatrist always says the accused is insane while the prosecution psychiatrist always maintain that the accused is sane. The consistency of this trend rules out the laws of chance, thus leaving the whole approach as a victim of manipulation from either the prosecution or defense side. This relates to ethnocentrism because one who is not transgender or doesn t have a clear understanding may feel as though it isn t necessary. I define ethnocentrism as the belief that one s own behavior and beliefs are superior to others. In many cases, some people have even acted upon their sense of ethnocentrism committing hate crimes, homicide, or even murder. This is a reflection of their belief that they are superior. This also is a reflection of how societies enforce this concept of gender and feel threated when someone breaks the boundary. As one of my classmates said, looking at gender from a religious aspect, God is a sort of genderless being and when one is struggling with gender identity or transgender, it may appear as though they are making a statement. One that is telling everyone else that they are on the same level as God. Naïve realism relates to what the guest speakers discussed because they explained that there are a lot of people who tend to kind of stop and stare at them simply because they look different; they are foreign to them. To those who don t understand being transgender, they may not understand how someone could such an identity crisis, as the feeling cannot be perceived by one who has not endured it. I found this to especially relate to identity because among age, language, and various other things, gender is one of the primary characteristics used to define self. If someone is experiencing an identity crisis, to whatever extent, that s related to gender it directly correlates with the concept of identity we ve been learning about in class. Understanding the concept of being transgender may require a sense of cultural relativism. I define relativism as the attempt to understand another culture s way of life from their own perspective. Of course there were positive effects that stemmed from this, but negative effects due to the growth of industrialization outnumbered the positive outcomes and are often overshadowed. Sickness and mortality have been reduced to an extent that is almost incredible (doc 10 Abram s, a journalist and historian, published journal account of the improvements to industrial Manchester.) Public health was an extremely important issue that sparked reactions to the polluted water and air, the Corn Laws and the well being of laborers in filthy conditions. Diseases caused or aggravated by atmospheric impurities produced by decomposing animal and vegetable substances, by damp and filth, and close and overcrowded dwellings, prevail among the laboring classes. The annual loss of life from filth and bad ventilation is greater than the loss from death or wounds in modern wars (doc 6), Most workers lack clothing, bed, furniture, fuel wholesome food, even potatoes! These efforts obviously weakened Germany tremendously; however, the cost of lives was too high to really see any progress in their efforts. Haig has been criticized by many people over the years due to his plans that caused high casualties. The wartime Prime Minister, David Lloyd George, was one such critic. He wrote that he sometimes wondered whether he should have resigned on more than one occasion rather than permit Haig to continue with his strategy.12 In Haig s defense, he was forced to apply pressure on France He had to push up his plans one month in advanced. • 42. Visit Of The Mcdonald s On Okeechobee Boulevard For this assignment I chose to visit the McDonald s on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach and the Chick Fil A on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard in West Palm Beach. I visited McDonald s first just after what could be considered the dinner rush. When walking into the store the first thing I noticed was the floor was fairly dirty, especially near the trash receptacles. There were clearly visible items of food that had fallen off of people s trays as they attempted to clear their trays off. I got into the line to order and noticed that there were three people ahead of me. There was only one McDonald s employee working the registers while I saw another standing by on their cell phone. I believe the second employee not working the registers was a manager. She was unaware of the line that had grown and when she looked up she signed into a register to help. I had gone into the store with the intention of only ordering a sweet tea, but if I were to have been offered an item I would buy it. I gave my order to the manager of only a sweet tea and she gave me my total. It was interesting to see that the manager did not try to upsell my order as I was only getting a $1 drink. As the drinks were a self service, I went to go get the sweet tea and found they were out of sweet tea. I informed the manager and she said they would get another one out. Rather than get a different drink I decided to wait to see how long it would take the staff to replace the sweet tea. Once the manager told ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Siddhartha By Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha Essay In the short story Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha, the protagonist of the story was led on a journey to reach enlightenment. Through his many realizations occurring in stages and phases, Siddhartha experienced emotional, mental and physical changes. These stages marked the journey Siddhartha underwent, and the destined metamorphism developed as he followed the path of enlightenment. In Siddhartha s first phase, Siddhartha, a wealthy Brahmin found that even though everyone loved him, he could not bring himself joy and please himself (Hesse). This discontent was spurred by the fact that the wise Brahmins had shared the majority and the best of their wisdom with him; yet, he was not satisfied nor did this quench his thirst for knowledge but only fueled it (Hesse). Questions arose, about sacrifices, happiness and Atman, did he who possessed so much wisdom live a blessed life (Hesse)? At this moment in Siddhartha s life, he was without peace and he wanted to find answers to these many questions. Focused and hellbent on the journey to enlightenment, Siddhartha made an audacious decision to go to the Samanas [and] become a Samana (Hesse). Through hours of an impasse between Siddharth and his father, his father finally agreed to let Siddhartha continue his life journey that began with becoming a Samana. Through this phase, Siddhartha learned he was unsatisfied with practices such as sacrificing, and that he had already achieved the wisdom obtainable from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Concept Of Capacity And Capacity Utilization 1.2 The concept of capacity and capacity utilization Capacity is very important but least understood concept in manufacturing and business world (Klammer,1996). Different categories of people in business and manufacturing measure capacity differently. For example, some financial managers might measure plant capacity in terms of the equipment installed in the plant while operational supervisors might measure capacity in terms of worker efficiency. Klein Summers ,(1996) defined an organization s productive capacity as the total level of output or production that it could produce in a given time period . Capacity utilization is the percentage of the firm s total possible production capacity that is being used. Therefore, an organization should be most efficient if it is running at 100% capacity utilization. An organization s full capacity is the minimum point on total cost function, a full input point on the aggregate production function and a bottleneck point in a general equilibrium system. Full capacity should be defined as a realizable level of output that can be attained under normal input conditions without prolonging accepted working ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 45. Gender Inequality Throughout The s The Middleton s ``... In The Revenger s Tragedy, Middleton presents a look at gender inequality in the early 1600 s through characters like the Duchess. He allows these characters a level of agency in which their actions are either punished or rewarded depending on the socially acceptable rules established by the patriarchal hierarchy in the play. Similarly, in Webster s Duchess of Malfi, a parallel examination is made where the Duchess is given a certain degree of agency and is ultimately killed for her actions in the play. Both Duchess in Middleton and Webster s plays, rebel against the patriarchal hierarchy and are punished by the male characters in the plays. The treatment of women in these plays constructs the ideal moral woman through inappropriately deemed actions. In The Duchess of Malfi, the Duchess is presented as a widow whose brothers end up determining her fate by constructing rules for how she is to live. Ferdinand and the Cardinal both caution the Duchess in the first act that marrying or engaging in a relationship again would tarnish her reputation. The Cardinal is also skeptical of the Duchess resolve remarking, So most widows say, but commonly that motion lasts no longer than the turning of an hourglass after the Duchess says she will never marry again (Webster 1765). Ferdinand also displays skepticism by saying, And women like that part which, like the lamprey, hath nev r a bone in t and enforces his remark by showing his sister a dagger. Although his idea provoked little response, Berners continued in the development of his idea using an at the time new and very specialised personal computer called the NeXT. Development of his ideas was based on the existing technologies of TCP/IP as his chosen network protocol and hypertext. Later joined by CERN engineer Robert Cailliau (Appendix a), Berners began to revise his ideas and started writing the code for his project. From early on, he decided that all programs involved with his project should have acronyms starting with HT for hypertext. This resulted in what we now know as the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) used to link hypertext document over the internet, and Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) a language for formatting and structuring the hypertext documents. The development of HTML would become apparent in its use when he wrote the programme for the worlds first web browser which he called the WorldWideWeb browser. Although this only ran on the NeXT computer system, its Graphical User Interface (GUI) was the first step towards making the web an interactive medium (CERN, 2008) that would make surfing the internet more accessible to people. Along with HTTP and HTML, Berners also developed a way of giving documents addresses for location using a Universal Resource Identifier (URI) which we now more commonly know as a URL ... • 47. Speech On Post Impressionism Theory History of Art: Group presentations Jewel Eng, Tricia Sng, Faith Lee, Isaac Low Nina S.D VA 2.4 Good morning to everyone. Today, we will be delving into the topic of post impressionism, and specifically on Vincent Van Gogh. Beginning slide (Slide: Jewel) What is the context of the art movement? (Tricia, Slide: Tricia) Post impressionism, which was primarily a French art movement, developed approximately between 1886 and 1905. Subdivisions of Post impressionism include Divisionism and Pointillism, which involves using dots and patches of color to form a picture. Due to these characteristics, post impressionism ushered in a new era of painting, and paved the way for many future art movements such as fauvism and cubism. Its antecedent being Impressionism, post impressionism contains traces of elements from that movement, but has its own diverging styles too. For example, the main difference between impressionism and post impressionism is that wh impressionism emphasised on accurately depicting light and its changing qualities, post impressionism focused on showing the artist s memories and their emotions. ... • 48. Georgia OKeefe Black Iris Analysis Description Black Iris is a 1926 painting by artist Georgia O Keefe. The painting is especially notable for its monumental size and acute attention to detail, which in turn allowed O Keefe to force[] the viewer to observe the small details that might otherwise be overlooked ( Black Iris ). This attention is particularly focused on color and form, accentuating the gradation in the flower from dark purples to light greys and pinks along with the iris s curvaceous shape. O Keefe produced many similar immense paintings of flowers. Both Black Iris and O Keefe s other flower works are ostensibly only a large scale portrayal of a flower meant to evoke appreciation of the objects in nature that often go unnoticed and nothing more. Nonetheless, one of the most common interpretations of the flowers, and especially Black Iris, is that they are depictions of female genitalia (Ellis Petersen). Black Iris is said to contain highly evocative and sensual overtones and a near eroticism (Widewalls Editorial). O Keefe met the interpretations of works like Black Iris as erotic with vehement denials, stating: I made you take time to look at what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower, you hung all your own associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower as if I think and see what you think and see of the flower and I don t, those associations being that flowers themselves look like female genitalia ( What do you see in Georgia O Keeffe s flowers? and Widewalls Editorial). Some who agree with the erotic interpretation of Black Iris and O Keefe s other flowers see the work as a reclamation of femininity and female sexuality, while others go even further in identifying O Keefe in a lineage of art by queer women, claiming the work as part of a lesbian tradition extending back to the eighteenth century ( What do you see ). Platonic Analysis If reading Black Iris as a portrait of female genitalia disguised as flower, the work takes its place on the second rung of the Ladder of Love. This second rung involves becoming a lover of all beautiful bodies rather than just one because the beauty on any body whatever is akin to that on any other body (Plato 210b). In Symposium, ...
