If company failed to offer the merchandise and services to the customers, which they want, then the
sales will be limited and which will cut down their revenues and profits.
In accordance for the Sears Holding Corp. to be successful, the company must identify, obtain as
much as required supplies, giving good offers to the customers, innovative and high quality defined
products on a continuous basis. Their products should satisfy the desires of the customers. If we
miscalculate the demands of the products and services, we can be overstock or stock out, which both
options are not good for the company.
b. If company failed to manage inventory levels, their operating results will be adversely affected.
The company should always try to maintain sufficient levels of the inventory in order to operate the
business successfully. The company cannot afford to have stock outs or the overstock. As some of the
inventory is brought from outside the United States, due to which they have to have that inventory in
the stock. Some of those outside country vendors require long prior notice for the requirements in
order to be able to supply that accordingly.
c. If company is unable to compete effectively in the highly competitive retail industry, their business
can be adversely affected.
As we all know, the retail industry is very crucial and is highly competitive. As this company

The Beast Within Case Study
Task 1: What is so remarkable about the human brain?
A History of the Brain The Beast Within (Video 6)
The Beast Within refers to Phineas Gage who is commonly known for being one of the most
recognised patients in neuroscience as a result of his traumatic accident. His case had a great influence
on Psychology and early neurology because his observable behaviour after the incident aided
scientists in their theories of localization of brain function (Twomey, 2010).
In 1848, he suffered a devastating brain injury when an explosion caused an iron rod to pierce through
his left cheek and out through the top of his head, thus destroying his frontal lobe (Cherry, 2018).
Astonishingly, he survived the incident, however his character changed profoundly. ... Show more

Imitation creates a defined link to cognitive control and illustrates mental capabilities. This is a
characteristic seen in both humans and animals. For example, when a child mimmicks a certain
behaviour of an adult, it can be assumed that the child is able to interpret the movement and
understand that the two behaviours correspond (Zentall, 2002). It can therefore be established that
Billie, the wild bottlenosed dolphin who was taken to the aquarium for medical treatment and learnt
the tailwalking trick through merely observing her fellow pool mates, has neurons known as mirror
neurons . This enabled a triggered mirror response to the behaviour of another. Due to the anatomical
correlation linking to the brains of both humans and animals it can be said that animals have minds
and similar cognitive capacties to those of humans (The Economist,

Cultural Impacts Of Cultural Tourism
Cultural tourism has been a significant aspect of growth for any country in the world. Cultural
interactions between the hosts and guests are vital to the sustainability and progression of tourism in a
country. Tourists may initially be drawn to a particular destination s architecture, history or leisure
facilities however exposing the tourists to cultural events and dissemination of cultural information
can get tourists to categorize the country as a frequent travel destination for vacations and trips.
Tourists usually like to explore and know more about the culture of the country they are travelling to
hence exhibiting the culture through cultural events is an excellent way to gratify this need. The boom
in tourism in recent decades as has opened the world to cross cultural exchanges and culture has
become a vital part of tourism.
Cultural tourism as one of the subsystems of tourism does assume a noteworthy part in connecting
cultural limits through tourist and host interactions. Be that as it may, there are some cultural false
impressions that still exist and cultural tourism ought to be considered in the rundown of techniques to
address these deficiencies. It ought to be noticed; that cultural travellers visit host puts basically to
experience the life methods for the hosts or fundamentally to get a look of the cultural zone. The
individuals who visit particularly to learn and admire the living methods for the hosts ordinarily are
the individuals who take dynamic part

The Symbiotic Relationship Between Christian And...
After Constantine embrace the Christian faith was developed what I call a symbiotic relationship
between Jews and Roman because, Jews bring the Christian theology and the Roman afford their
politic power and resources incorporating the faith to the Roman s propagandistic machinery that was
spread through the arts like paintings, sculptures and architectures. According to Dr. Allen Farber this
interaction is clear due to the transformation of Christianity that is dramatically evident in a
comparison between the architecture of the pre Constantinian church and that of the Constantinian and
post Constantinian church. During the pre Constantinian period, there was not much that distinguished
the Christian churches from typical domestic architecture.

The Importance Of Learning A Secondary Language
The vast majority of the people residing in the valley, especially in the city of Brownsville, Texas are
fluent in both Spanish and English, and therefore considered bilingual. Brownsville has been
considered a highly illiterate and poorly educated city, where learning a secondary language such as
English, drastically changes those discriminating statistics. The argument is that learning a secondary
language indeed supports literacy development from an early age, by reading aloud to children,
making them participants of a learning incentive, and family literacy practices. A development in
literacy significantly increases reading achievement test scores, helps students become better at
grammatical judgment and word recognition, and improves their cognitive development.
In the article Learning to Read across Languages: Cross Linguistic Relationships in First and Second
Language Literacy Development by Keiko Koda and Annette M. Zehler, showed that reading aloud to
children in elementary schools, in a secondary language increases their phonological awareness as
they relate their slight knowledge from their first language, and apply it to the new acquisition of the
second. The authors claimed that the field of second (L2) and foreign language reading has pursued an
understanding of factors that impact the reading process, one of which is first language (LI) literacy.
To support their claim, the authors brought together theories and research on the interaction of
languages,

Benefits Of Coming Of Age Essay
People have been celebrations for their coming of age like Quiñceaneras, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, proms, etc.
People have been doing these celebrations so they remember these memories since they are
celebrating their coming of age. They are benefits that come from these celebrations like the center of
attention growing up and maturing during their party, there is also some costs like buying supplies for
the party which can be very expensive. These celebrations have benefits and costs for someone going
into adulthood. Quiñceaneras can be a benefit because when a girl is turning 15, she is becoming a
woman and is no longer a child anymore. In quiñceaneras, there is a celebration where the father puts
on the high heel on her daughter which is showing how she is a woman. (What is a quiñceanera, ND).

people could not believe that they were spending a lot money on dresses for their children prom. Mary
Stirsman says she couldn t image buying her 17 year old daughter Madison the $500 dress she found

These celebrations have benefits and costs for someone going into adulthood. Quiñceaneras can be a
benefit since it shows that the girl is becoming into a woman. Bar/Bat Mitzvah show that boys and
girls can make their own choices. Sweet 16s also show that they are growing up and proms are about
looking good since it is their last years of their school. Supplies and dresses or suits can be very
expensive for these celebrations. These celebrations are about how the child is going into adulthood
which is benefit but doing all that is very expensive so basically there are both benefits and costs to

Horniman Horticulture
Background
Horniman Horticulture is a whole sale nursery business that has been owned by Maggie and Bob for
three years. They have seen an increase in business and number of plants grown at the nursery and are
expecting demand to continue to grow. In 2005, the business s profit margin was expected to grow to
5.8% up from 3.1% in 2003. This projected growth seems accurate considering Maggie s conservative
approach with the companies cash balance. Handling the finances, Maggie dislikes debt financing
because of her fear of holding too much inventory and thus not being able to make interest payments.
Since the business relies on good weather conditions with some mature plants taking years to grow,
severe weather can destroy this inventory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Past 2004, net working capital in 2005 was $97,200 which is 1.6x the net income of $60,800. If they
continue to increase their net working capital like they have in the past, the projected net working
capital for 2006 would be $235,900 which would cause them a negative cash balance of 193,000.
When you look at the balance sheet in Exhibit B we can see that the current assets have increased 19%
and total assets increased 14.4%. This is due primarily to the increase in inventory and accounts
receivable. In the four years from 2002 to 2005 inventory has increased 8.7% and accounts receivable
has increased 16.4%. Due to this, the cash balance has decreased from $120,100 all the way down to
$9,400. In addition in 2005, the cash balance went below their comfort level of $10,000 down to
$9,400. This is not meeting their expectation of their 8% minimum of total revenue target.
Financial Ratio Analysis Even though their business was growing significantly, and they were
experiencing a steady increase in revenues, they were seeing a huge decrease in their cash. The reason
for this is because of their recent change to an increase in business from small nurseries. By looking at
the financial ratios, even though they are increasing in sales, you can tell that they are relaxed on their
accounts receivable and credit terms. Each year it takes them longer to collect their money. This is due
to the fact that the carrying cost of inventory is harder for the

excuse for not doing so. Several agencies like, The Department of Health and Human Services,
schools and VFC (Vaccines for Children) offer immunizations at low cost or no charge. There is so
much importance in vaccinating children and because of the lack of education some parents may not

Standardized Testing Craze In The Usa Research Paper
The mark of success in America for most people is pursuing higher education once a high school
diploma or General Education Development (GED) is obtained. However, the pursuit of higher
education is not easy to come by since it all comes down to the decisions made by College Admissions
committees at various colleges and universities. Being admitted into a college or university depends
on a number factors, namely Grade Point Average (GPA), Rank, and SAT or ACT exam scores. Should
college entrance exams be weighed so heavily in the college admissions process? The standardized
testing craze in the United States is to blame for the emphasis on college entrance exams. College

The Field Of Ecology And Diversity
Ecology and diversity both focus on the measurable properties of size, types, importance, disparity,
and unevenness. In the field of ecology, the understanding of diversity sophisticates with a
quantitative linguist viewing diversity as a statistical analysis. Whereas, an ecologist state s diversity
as numbered species (Jarvis, 2013). In ecology, all relationship are inversely related to diversity
(Finkel, Early, Fuller, 1998). Identifying a population is a significant step in developing a definition of
diversity and ecology. In this contribution to the definitions of ecology and diversity, Spellman and
Whiting (2007) claims that ecology constitutes an interrelationship of an organism with its
environment. The growth of these organisms may follow changes such that the population diversifies
into other measured organisms. Moreover, diversity is respective to a framework of attaining a
multicultural population of schools. The school s population prospers due to the implementation of
diverse academic disciplines and other aspects of the curriculum (Rodman, 2010). Ecology Haeckel, a
German biologist, used the term oecologie , an older spelling ecology which gives the meaning:
management of a household or management of a world of living things (Ecology, 2009). Karl Marx
contended ecology as a metabolism to social interactions with nature, explaining that there is a
necessary metabolic interaction

Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass Rhetorical...
America s history will be scarred forever by the evils of slavery which once existed here. Slaves lived
lives of pain and hardship. But some, like the slave and later abolitionist Frederick Douglass, rose up
from the tribulations of slavery and led the way for progress and change in America. In his
autobiography Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass , Douglass tells his inspiring yet harrowing
story of his life as a slave in Maryland and his escape to freedom in New York and later
Massachusetts, where he eventually became an abolitionist. Douglass masterfully uses ethos, pathos,
and logos to craft his powerful narrative that exposes to his audience, the American people, the
horrors, absurdity, and hypocrisy of slavery. Douglass s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using pathos, Douglass also is able to establish parts of his tone. When describing the whippings and
how slaves were treated like animals, any reasonable person would expect Douglass to be enraged. He
likely was, but he kept a calm, cool, collected and almost political tone. If he had let this anger show,
he too would ve likely been seen as an animal . These qualities of Douglass s tone are even more
evident when he employs ethos. Douglass uses ethos to establish his credibility. In fact, establishing
his credibility is the very first thing Douglass does. During his lifetime, the word of a black man
meant nothing without a white man s testimony. (Douglass brings that up in chapter ten.) So Douglass
begins his book with a preface by William Lloyd Garrison, a white man who was very involved in anti
slavery movements. Even though we don t need this to comprehend his credibility, Douglass s
audience at the time would have.
More importantly, Douglass also improves his credibility through his own writing. Douglass humbly
discusses how he learned to be literate while still a slave by bargaining with white children. Being a
literate slave would be a huge mark of credibility during the period. Douglass goes so far as to call it
his pathway to freedom . The moment he realizes the power of his literacy is quite amazing. That
which to him was a great evil, to be carefully shunned, was to be a great good, to be diligently sought,
Douglass says. Not only was he able to

Football Games And Its Impact On College Football Essay
Introduction
Collegiate athletics have long played an integral role in higher education in the United States. The
popularity of collegiate football in America is unprecedented. The fan frenzy surrounding teams,
games, and the sport itself, is borderline barmy. Aptly described as the thrill of victory and the agony
of defeat, fan emotions in college football are rampant (Moore, B., 2010). Football programs are able
to generate a great deal of revenue through gate receipts (Groza, M. D., 2010). Football game day
attendance is also an excellent proxy for other revenues such apparel sales and concessions. The major
programs in college football play in the automatic qualifier (AQ in NCAA Football jargon)
conferences: The Southeastern Conference (SEC), PAC 10 (Pacific 10) (now PAC 12), Big 10, Big 12
and Associated Catholic Colleges (ACC). (Paul, R., Humphreys, B. R., Weinbach, A., 2012). These
five conferences are popularly referred to as the power five. Most top football programs in the power
five conferences have a huge fan following and have high game day attendance. However in the
smaller, non AQ, conferences there is a wide variation in game day attendance on a regular basis. This
is because of the quality of the teams, market characteristics, and size of the stadium (Paul, R.,
Humphreys, B. R., Weinbach, A., 2012). According to Tim Padgett and Shane Hunt, the winning
percentage may have a big influence in game day attendance, but the athletic

Thomas Malthus—Section Summary
Thomas Malthus Section Summary Malthus work, Essay on the Principle of Population, is often cited,
first by Darwin himself, to have influenced Darwin s conception of the theory of natural selection. His
work, though unpopular, and often proven to be off the mark, did in fact bring to the forefront many
socio economic issues that are still being debated today: population control, food production and
concerns over uncontrollable diseases arising from the effects of over population. In this passage it is
stated that Malthus was proven wrong: ...Malthus dire predictions have proven to be wrong...

Malthus determined that during this particular scarcity of bread, that though the shortage was less than
comparable shortages in other European countries, the cost of bread was 3 times as high as normal
when, by comparison, the other countries with worse shortages of bread and bread ingredients, only
demonstrated a doubling of prices. Malthus was obviously very aware of the effect pricing could have
on food supplies and production. Another criticism of Malthus that is only alluded to in the text is his
tendency to heap an undue amount of blame on the lower classes for their role in population growth:
An 1881 report concluded that 80 percent of famine victims were drawn from the poorest 20 percent
of the population...Thus, if the government spent more of its revenue on famine relief, an even larger
proportion of the population would become penurious...although the administration was divided about
the value of famine relief, these Malthusian views undoubtedly affected its volume and timing
(Caldwell, par.40)
Malthus didn t necessarily propose that poverty, exploding population growth, famine and disease was
intentionally the fault of the poor and lowest social classes, but that it was their inability

The water level (observed) and water level (simulated) water levels and the variation over time were
graphed below in figure 5.
Figure 5 Predicted vs. experimental h comparison
The data shown in figure 5 demonstrates the adequacy of the Level Pool Routing approximation. The
two water levels run very closely with very little error. The difference between the two can be
attributed to human error when reading the observed times during the experiment.
Conclusion and Recommendations:
A level pool routing experiment was carried out to determine the adequacy of results obtained through
simulated flood routing. The experiment yielded experimental results from which calculations of
inflow; storage and discharge over a weir were obtained. The Energy Grade line from the tank to the
pipe outlet was observed as well as the relationship between the tank discharge to the square root of
height. Noted from this was that height was the driving force of flow from the tank.
Following, a Puls flood routing method was used to simulate the event again with theoretical values.
The relationship between discharge and discharge with storage over time was obtained and used to
calculate theoretical values of discharge and water Level. These were compared with experimental
results and a strong correlation was observed.
Reservoir routing yielded reliable results which

The Physics of Firearms
Firearms are often featured on the news due to poor use as well as featured in popular culture s
television crime dramas, but have you stopped to ponder about where these devices came from, the
different types, the trajectory patterns that are created their bullets and how they work? The following
paragraphs are designed to address all of the following questions.
A firearm is a complex arrangement of various metals that can eject a small lead piece at high speeds,
causing maximum destruction on the target with minimum energy delivery on the shooter themselves.
(Definition of a Gun, n.d.) The mechanics of shooting any type of firearm; weather it be a rifle,
shotgun, or pistol, includes a wide variety of physics topics working together to make the bullet hit its
target including friction, force, conservation of momentum, transfer of energy, heat engines, and
projectile motion. (The Physics of Shooting a Gun, n.d.) History Of Firearms
The history of firearms begins in China in the ninth century where, huo yao, the world s first gun
powder was discovered; it was created by mixing charcoal, potassium nitrate and sulphur into a fine
powder. Historians are prone to recognizing tenth century Chinese fire lances, a spear like weapon
combining a bamboo tube containing huo yao and projectiles tied to a Chinese spear as the first
firearm. In the year 1320, Gun powder was developed into a specific formula, 15% charcoal, 75%

Delia speaks the tone rings more of peace, hope, and determination. When the narrator chimes in the
tone seems sad because he/she informs the reader of the upsetting truths about Delia s marriage and
the many hardships she has had to face throughout the story. Delia represents the good in the story.
She remains calm, level headed, and spiritually in tune despite her husband s determination to make
her miserable. Once a right pretty li l trick, Delia is now worn and dried out like sugar cane that s been
chewed to no end ( Sweat 43). However her soul remains strong as she turns to her spirituality for
comfort and hope. She has smarts although uneducated and the fact that she built her own house and
now supports her and her husband by washing white people s clothes demonstrates her strength and
determination. Delia is a dynamic character as shown early in the story with this quote: She seized the
iron skillet from the stove and struck a defensive pose, which act surprised him greatly, coming from
her. Sykes dumbfounded reaction to Delia s defensive action allows the reader to assume that this

Censorship In England In The 20th Century

Step 1. a): Visual Media History
Step 1. b): Censorship in the 20th century British film
Description: Following the first public appearance of film in 1896 in London, England there were
numerous issues that arose; public safety and the content within films came to the forefront of public
concern. This led to local authorities such as The London City Council (LCC) possessing the authority
to decide all regulations and rules of film. This was the first form of censorship as we see these local
officials being able to ban films and later on decide what was morally acceptable within film. In
November 1912 the formation of the British Board of Film Censors ... Show more content on

Myers K. (2012). Censorship under siege: the BBFC in the silent era. In S. Brown (Ed.), Behind the
scenes at the BBFC. (pp. 1 15). London, England: Palgrave Macmillan.
Step b: The annotation including word count:
Brown, the author of this specific chapter does an in depth coverage of the historical origins of the
British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). This chapter mainly dealt with the numerous conflicts
that the BBFC encountered during the silent era. The board was constantly challenged by groups such
as the London City Council (LCC) because of their firm belief that censorship should be within their
hands. Despite this the BBFC gained more legitimacy and control by 1924 following the necessary
interventions from the Home Office of England. Despite this Brown argues that the councils continued
to initiate disputes and in reality the BBFC faced even more issues surrounding morality. Even though
this book s central topic is the BBFC, it includes a substantial amount of coverage on the presence of
local authorities. The examples of each conflict between both groups supports my thesis since it
illustrates how key the role, local authorities play. Brown stresses the importance of the conflicts that
shaped the BBFC and how the board s battle for acceptance was underpinned by the moral concerns of
local authorities.

Until recently the only way to confirm the presence of the pathogen was a bioassay. In the bioassay
plants are grown in soil that is thought to be contaminated for 5 6 weeks then the plant is harvested
and examined for the formation of root galls. Other detection methods include examination of root
hairs and fluorochrome staining of resting spores. The methods above are time consuming. A PCR
technique was developed in western canada in 2007 that can detect the pathogen in plant tissue or in
the soil. This technique has made it into commercial use. Unfortunately the techinique can only detect
the presence of the pathogen not the amount of innoculum that is present in the soil. Detection with
quantitative PCR appears to hold the most promise. A method has been developed that can quantify
resting spores of Plasmodiophora brassicae. (Hwang S.F., Strelkov S.E., Feng J., Gossen B.D.,

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead
Founded by Søren Kierkegaard, existentialism is a philosophy concerning why life exists and the
meaning behind it. It emphasizes how there is no set purpose in life, and the humans just merely exist
in the world. A big idea behind existentialism is that existence precedes essence. After World War II,
existentialism gained popularity in Europe with it appearing in many works of literature. In the film
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, the main characters of the film contemplate the meaning
behind life throughout the movie, especially during their exchange about death in a box. Similarly, in
Shakespeare s Hamlet, the main character questions life and death in his famous To be or not to be
speech. Both of these works of literature seem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through this delivery, the audience hears a lot about his thoughts regarding life and death. Hamlet
seems to think that dying ends all the suffering and heartache of living. Hamlet says, To die, to sleep /
No more and by a sleep to say we end / The heartache (Shakespeare III, i, 68 70). To him, death is
freedom. This is actually very similar to the existentialism, as they view death as nothingness and
freedom. Furthermore, Hamlet fears death because of the uncertain. He says, But that the dread of
something after death, / The undiscovered country from whose bourn / . . . Thus conscience does make
cowards of us all (Shakespeare III, i, 86 87 and 91). The unknown scares Hamlet. This view is quite a
departure from existentialism. Existentialists believe that death is nothingness not unknown like
Hamlet. Moreover, in the end of Hamlet s speech, he mentions how a well thought out plan may be
overthought causing the action not to happen. Hamlet seems to believe that one should act quickly and
not overthink. This seems contrary to existentialism. Existentialists believe in freedom of choice;
however, they believe that choices have a huge impact. Therefore, they should be well thought out and
not carried out rashly. In this sense, Hamlet does not seem to follow the existentialist viewpoint.

Globalized Islam By Olivier Roy
In Olivier Roy s book, Globalized Islam, he writes about propaganda targets individuals, not groups as
the strategy used Islamists, when elaborating a political program, targets groups, and more precisely
social groups (impoverished neo urbanites, students from the lower and middle classes, and so on).
Roy continues on to share their reasoning for the method of targeting individuals, not groups [author s
italicization]. This remains congruent with their strategy of going to the polls; an electorate is always a
collective and anonymous entity. Roy goes on to state why the new preachers use another method. But
the new preachers target individuals, for the simple reason that they do not have a global political and
social project, except implementation of sharia. In contrast he goes on to explain how the Taliban s
agenda differs. Even the Taliban, who were ruling a real country, never cared about implementing any
economic or social program, but were exclusively concerned with sharia. Consequently, individual
Muslims that relocate from their own culture to migrate to the western world still remain well rooted
in their religion despite the fact that no special accommodations are made for their religion. No
allowances are made for Muslims to abide naturally and easily by the tenets of their religion. Hence
the implementation of binding religious obligations rests on the good goodwill of the believer, not on
any external cultural pressure or a state s legal

A Virtual Community By Rene Lysloff
A virtual community is a type of imagined community and is a difficult concept to define; the
ambiguous nature of this concept is highlighted by the many definitions created by researchers. A
Virtual Community is when Individuals communicate and form a relationship with each other in a
computer mediated space with the use of technology .
Anthropologists undergo the practice of participation observation on the internet , allowing them to
experience a virtual community; this shapes their understanding and knowledge of this concept. For
that reason each individual has different criteria which they believe a community must correlate to, in
order for it to be classed as a virtual community. Furthermore, another issue surrounding the ability ...

There are different types of Imagined Communities, including virtual and digital. In virtual

as both real and Imagined, real because participants interact with each other and have decisions have

of Imagined Communities is a good starting point into understanding the concept of Virtual

Credit Cards And Credit Card Debt

States . (Bower) The average household credit card debt has probably increase since the 2013 study.
Overall U.S. National debt is rapidly approaching $18 trillion (Bower). 20% of credit card users often
pay off monthly balances on two or more credit cards according to a study (Bower). In today s society
it is normal to swipe a credit card to buy your children Christmas, because credit card companies now
offer rewards where an individual receives money back or maybe even a discount flight. People used
to not want to buy their children s Christmas on credit, but rather work a little harder and save up the
money to buy it. Children now days see their parents buying them stuff on credit card, so when they
become teenagers they expect to receive everything they want even if their parents cannot afford it.
When the child becomes a teenager, and they are finally old enough to get a credit card they take
advantage of the credit card. Young adults should learn to spend their money wisely and efficiently at
that age. Most young adults my age have a credit card and take advantage of it. I have been eighteen

Legendary Betsy Ross and the American Flag Essay
Legendary Betsy Ross and the American Flag
The American flag has long been a symbol of our country, but there have been certain doubts about its
origin. No one really knows who sewed the American flag. The legend of Betsy Ross has been told
many times, but some people look upon it as a myth, saying Betsy Ross never even existed. Betsy
Ross was indeed a real person who lived in the 1700 s, but no one can prove she actually sewed the
American Flag.
Betsy Ross did not have an extremely interesting childhood. She was born Elizabeth Griscom on
January 1, 1752, to a Quaker couple. Her father s name was Samuel Griscom, who worked as a
carpenter. The Quakers were members of the religious society of friends. (Comptons 1). She lived in

died in 1817. Following the death of her third husband, she lived with one of her daughters in
Philadelphia until her death on January 30, 1836 (Walters 335).
The American Flag is a symbol of our country. The leaders of the Revolution realized the need for a
distinctive American flag. Betsy Ross had taken up flag sewing in addition to upholstery. In fact, she
was the official flagmaker for the Pennsylvania Navy. George Washington came to Betsy Ross in June
of 1776 with two other men (Davidson 177).
When they came to Betsy Ross, George Washington and his committee had originally chosen a six
pointed star for the flag, but the six pointed star was the English rule (Tonn 18). Betsy convinced them
to use the design of a five pointed star, which was the French rule.
The committee of men who came to Betsy Ross were Robert Morris and Colonel Ross. Colonel Ross
was an uncle to Betsy s late husband John Ross, and that might have been the reason they came to
Betsy Ross in the first place (Compton s 1). However, she is credited to making the Cambridge Flag,
or the Continental Colors, which was raised at Somerville,

The Cash Flow Sensitivity of Sash
Research Question Does the link between financial constraints and firms demand for liquidity can
help us identify whether financial constraints are an important determinant of firm behavior.
Contribution Previous scholars, Fazzari, Hubbard, and Petersen, proposed that investment activities of
a firm is limited by the firm s financial situation, which is called financial constraints. When firms
face financial constraints, the firm s investment cash flow sensitivity is high. When a firm face no
financial constraints, its investment cash flow sensitivity is low. However this theory was doubtful by
some scholars. In 1997, Kaplan and Zingales propose an exactly opposite theory. In 2001, ... Show

The authors further test the intuition of our argument by investigating firms propensity to save cash
out of cash inflow over the business cycle.
Result
The authors use two alternative method to empirically model the cash flow sensitivity of cash. The
first model only include proxies: cash flow and investment opportunities. The second model is
estimated from a method in which a firm s decision to change its cash holdings is modeled as a
function of a number of sources and uses of funds. The result reported in table III is related to the first
model. The set of constrained firms shows significantly positive sensitivities of cash to cash flow
sensitivities. The sensitivity estimates for constrained firms are between 0.051 and 0.062 and are all
statistically significant at better than the 1% level.
The result reported in table IV is related to the second model. This finding is consistent with the view
that there are systematic difference between constrained and unconstrained firms in the way they
conduct their cash policies.
Paper s Findings
By conducting this study, the authors conclude that financial constraints and firm s liquidity demand

Rhetorical Analysis Of Self Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson
In Ralph Waldo Emerson s essay titled Self Reliance he speaks on the topic of the individual, creating
the idea that an individual being independent leads to greatness. Emerson s writing within this memoir
is relatable to young individuals who are looking for themselves, an individual must avoid conformity
and false consistency while following their own thoughts making themselves an individual. Within the
essay, Emerson uses a range of rhetorical devices to prove that every individual can do great by being
an individual and not like everyone else, something that young people everywhere should hear while
growing up with the heinous act of peer pressure. In Self Reliance , Emerson adopts the rhetorical
strategy of aphorisms to annex what he thinks by enriching his thesis, while allowing a pause in the
reader s mind to comprehend just what he is saying. Emerson s honest aphorism advises people to
actually believe in themselves in order to be triumphant by saying, To believe your own thought, to
believe that what is true for you in your private heart, is true for all men, that is genius (Emerson 1)
and Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string (Emerson 3). The aphorism demonstrates that
believing in themselves, and what is important to them, the reader, is what everyone else does, that
being an individual is a genius idea. Comparing this to what society, especially the younger
individuals with in society, they themselves hear differently, that they

After Constantine embrace the Christian faith was developed what I call a symbiotic relationship between Jews and Roman because, Jews bring the Christian theology and the Roman afford their politic power and resources incorporating the faith to the Roman s propagandistic machinery that was spread through the arts like paintings, sculptures and architectures. According to Dr. Allen Farber this interaction is clear due to the transformation of Christianity that is dramatically evident in a comparison between the architecture of the pre Constantinian church and that of the Constantinian and post Constantinian church. During the pre Constantinian period, there was not much that distinguished the Christian churches from typical domestic architecture. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Importance Of Learning A Secondary Language The vast majority of the people residing in the valley, especially in the city of Brownsville, Texas are fluent in both Spanish and English, and therefore considered bilingual. Brownsville has been considered a highly illiterate and poorly educated city, where learning a secondary language such as English, drastically changes those discriminating statistics. The argument is that learning a secondary language indeed supports literacy development from an early age, by reading aloud to children, making them participants of a learning incentive, and family literacy practices. A development in literacy significantly increases reading achievement test scores, helps students become better at grammatical judgment and word recognition, and improves their cognitive development. In the article Learning to Read across Languages: Cross Linguistic Relationships in First and Second Language Literacy Development by Keiko Koda and Annette M. Zehler, showed that reading aloud to children in elementary schools, in a secondary language increases their phonological awareness as they relate their slight knowledge from their first language, and apply it to the new acquisition of the second. The authors claimed that the field of second (L2) and foreign language reading has pursued an understanding of factors that impact the reading process, one of which is first language (LI) literacy. To support their claim, the authors brought together theories and research on the interaction of languages, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They have seen an increase in business and number of plants grown at the nursery and are expecting demand to continue to grow. In 2005, the business s profit margin was expected to grow to 5.8% up from 3.1% in 2003. This projected growth seems accurate considering Maggie s conservative approach with the companies cash balance. Handling the finances, Maggie dislikes debt financing because of her fear of holding too much inventory and thus not being able to make interest payments. When you look at the balance sheet in Exhibit B we can see that the current assets have increased 19% and total assets increased 14.4%. This is due primarily to the increase in inventory and accounts receivable. In the four years from 2002 to 2005 inventory has increased 8.7% and accounts receivable has increased 16.4%. Due to this, the cash balance has decreased from $120,100 all the way down to $9,400. In addition in 2005, the cash balance went below their comfort level of $10,000 down to $9,400. This is not meeting their expectation of their 8% minimum of total revenue target. Financial Ratio Analysis Even though their business was growing significantly, and they were experiencing a steady increase in revenues, they were seeing a huge decrease in their cash. The reason for this is because of their recent change to an increase in business from small nurseries. • 14. The Field Of Ecology And Diversity Ecology and diversity both focus on the measurable properties of size, types, importance, disparity, and unevenness. In the field of ecology, the understanding of diversity sophisticates with a quantitative linguist viewing diversity as a statistical analysis. Whereas, an ecologist state s diversity as numbered species (Jarvis, 2013). In ecology, all relationship are inversely related to diversity (Finkel, Early, Fuller, 1998). Identifying a population is a significant step in developing a definition of diversity and ecology. In this contribution to the definitions of ecology and diversity, Spellman and Whiting (2007) claims that ecology constitutes an interrelationship of an organism with its environment. The growth of these organisms may follow changes such that the population diversifies into other measured organisms. Moreover, diversity is respective to a framework of attaining a multicultural population of schools. But some, like the slave and later abolitionist Frederick Douglass, rose up from the tribulations of slavery and led the way for progress and change in America. In his autobiography Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass , Douglass tells his inspiring yet harrowing story of his life as a slave in Maryland and his escape to freedom in New York and later Massachusetts, where he eventually became an abolitionist. When describing the whippings and how slaves were treated like animals, any reasonable person would expect Douglass to be enraged. He likely was, but he kept a calm, cool, collected and almost political tone. If he had let this anger show, he too would ve likely been seen as an animal . These qualities of Douglass s tone are even more evident when he employs ethos. Douglass uses ethos to establish his credibility. In fact, establishing his credibility is the very first thing Douglass does. During his lifetime, the word of a black man meant nothing without a white man s testimony. (Douglass brings that up in chapter ten.) So Douglass begins his book with a preface by William Lloyd Garrison, a white man who was very involved in anti slavery movements. Even though we don t need this to comprehend his credibility, Douglass s audience at the time would have. More importantly, Douglass also improves his credibility through his own writing. Douglass humbly discusses how he learned to be literate while still a slave by bargaining with white children. Being a literate slave would be a huge mark of credibility during the period. Douglass goes so far as to call it his pathway to freedom . The moment he realizes the power of his literacy is quite amazing. • 17. Football Games And Its Impact On College Football Essay Introduction Collegiate athletics have long played an integral role in higher education in the United States. The popularity of collegiate football in America is unprecedented. The fan frenzy surrounding teams, games, and the sport itself, is borderline barmy. Aptly described as the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, fan emotions in college football are rampant (Moore, B., 2010). Football programs are able to generate a great deal of revenue through gate receipts (Groza, M. D., 2010). Football game day attendance is also an excellent proxy for other revenues such apparel sales and concessions. The major programs in college football play in the automatic qualifier (AQ in NCAA Football jargon) conferences: The Southeastern Conference (SEC), PAC 10 (Pacific 10) (now PAC 12), Big 10, Big 12 and Associated Catholic Colleges (ACC). (Paul, R., Humphreys, B. R., Weinbach, A., 2012). These five conferences are popularly referred to as the power five. Most top football programs in the power five conferences have a huge fan following and have high game day attendance. However in the smaller, non AQ, conferences there is a wide variation in game day attendance on a regular basis. This is because of the quality of the teams, market characteristics, and size of the stadium (Paul, R., Humphreys, B. R., Weinbach, A., 2012). Malthus was obviously very aware of the effect pricing could have on food supplies and production. Another criticism of Malthus that is only alluded to in the text is his tendency to heap an undue amount of blame on the lower classes for their role in population growth: An 1881 report concluded that 80 percent of famine victims were drawn from the poorest 20 percent of the population...Thus, if the government spent more of its revenue on famine relief, an even larger proportion of the population would become penurious...although the administration was divided about the value of famine relief, these Malthusian views undoubtedly affected its volume and timing (Caldwell, par.40) Malthus didn t necessarily propose that poverty, exploding population growth, famine and disease was intentionally the fault of the poor and lowest social classes, but that it was their inability ... The experiment yielded experimental results from which calculations of inflow; storage and discharge over a weir were obtained. The Energy Grade line from the tank to the pipe outlet was observed as well as the relationship between the tank discharge to the square root of height. Noted from this was that height was the driving force of flow from the tank. Following, a Puls flood routing method was used to simulate the event again with theoretical values. Despite this the BBFC gained more legitimacy and control by 1924 following the necessary interventions from the Home Office of England. Despite this Brown argues that the councils continued to initiate disputes and in reality the BBFC faced even more issues surrounding morality. • 26. Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead Founded by Søren Kierkegaard, existentialism is a philosophy concerning why life exists and the meaning behind it. It emphasizes how there is no set purpose in life, and the humans just merely exist in the world. A big idea behind existentialism is that existence precedes essence. After World War II, existentialism gained popularity in Europe with it appearing in many works of literature. In the film Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, the main characters of the film contemplate the meaning behind life throughout the movie, especially during their exchange about death in a box. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through this delivery, the audience hears a lot about his thoughts regarding life and death. Hamlet seems to think that dying ends all the suffering and heartache of living. Hamlet says, To die, to sleep / No more and by a sleep to say we end / The heartache (Shakespeare III, i, 68 70). To him, death is freedom. This is actually very similar to the existentialism, as they view death as nothingness and freedom. Furthermore, Hamlet fears death because of the uncertain. He says, But that the dread of something after death, / The undiscovered country from whose bourn / . . . Thus conscience does make cowards of us all (Shakespeare III, i, 86 87 and 91). The unknown scares Hamlet. This view is quite a departure from existentialism. Existentialists believe that death is nothingness not unknown like Hamlet. Moreover, in the end of Hamlet s speech, he mentions how a well thought out plan may be overthought causing the action not to happen. Hamlet seems to believe that one should act quickly and not overthink. This seems contrary to existentialism. Existentialists believe in freedom of choice; however, they believe that choices have a huge impact. Therefore, they should be well thought out and not carried out rashly. In this sense, Hamlet does not seem to follow the existentialist viewpoint. Hamlet s To be or not to be speech in the play allows the readers to see his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Globalized Islam By Olivier Roy In Olivier Roy s book, Globalized Islam, he writes about propaganda targets individuals, not groups as the strategy used Islamists, when elaborating a political program, targets groups, and more precisely social groups (impoverished neo urbanites, students from the lower and middle classes, and so on). Roy continues on to share their reasoning for the method of targeting individuals, not groups [author s italicization]. This remains congruent with their strategy of going to the polls; an electorate is always a collective and anonymous entity. Roy goes on to state why the new preachers use another method. But the new preachers target individuals, for the simple reason that they do not have a global political and social project, except implementation of sharia. In contrast he goes on to explain how the Taliban s agenda differs. Even the Taliban, who were ruling a real country, never cared about implementing any economic or social program, but were exclusively concerned with sharia. Consequently, individual Muslims that relocate from their own culture to migrate to the western world still remain well rooted in their religion despite the fact that no special accommodations are made for their religion. No allowances are made for Muslims to abide naturally and easily by the tenets of their religion. Hence the implementation of binding religious obligations rests on the good goodwill of the believer, not on any external cultural pressure or a state s legal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Virtual Community By Rene Lysloff A virtual community is a type of imagined community and is a difficult concept to define; the ambiguous nature of this concept is highlighted by the many definitions created by researchers. A Virtual Community is when Individuals communicate and form a relationship with each other in a computer mediated space with the use of technology . Anthropologists undergo the practice of participation observation on the internet , allowing them to experience a virtual community; this shapes their understanding and knowledge of this concept. For that reason each individual has different criteria which they believe a community must correlate to, in order for it to be classed as a virtual community. In virtual communities the people involved are characters and are non existent, an example of this is Cybercity. Barry Wellman, author of imagining twitter as an imagined community views Twitter to as both real and Imagined, real because participants interact with each other and have decisions have real life consequence and Imagined because they all share a sense of community . This imagined sense of community corresponds to Benedict Anderson s view of nationalism. Benedict Anderson s concept of Imagined Communities is a good starting point into understanding the concept of Virtual Communities. People used to not want to buy their children s Christmas on credit, but rather work a little harder and save up the money to buy it. Children now days see their parents buying them stuff on credit card, so when they become teenagers they expect to receive everything they want even if their parents cannot afford it. The Cash Flow Sensitivity of Sash Research Question Does the link between financial constraints and firms demand for liquidity can help us identify whether financial constraints are an important determinant of firm behavior. Contribution Previous scholars, Fazzari, Hubbard, and Petersen, proposed that investment activities of a firm is limited by the firm s financial situation, which is called financial constraints. When firms face financial constraints, the firm s investment cash flow sensitivity is high. When a firm face no financial constraints, its investment cash flow sensitivity is low. The authors further test the intuition of our argument by investigating firms propensity to save cash out of cash inflow over the business cycle. Result The authors use two alternative method to empirically model the cash flow sensitivity of cash. The first model only include proxies: cash flow and investment opportunities. The second model is estimated from a method in which a firm s decision to change its cash holdings is modeled as a function of a number of sources and uses of funds. The result reported in table III is related to the first model. The set of constrained firms shows significantly positive sensitivities of cash to cash flow sensitivities. The sensitivity estimates for constrained firms are between 0.051 and 0.062 and are all statistically significant at better than the 1% level. The result reported in table IV is related to the second model. Rhetorical Analysis Of Self Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson In Ralph Waldo Emerson s essay titled Self Reliance he speaks on the topic of the individual, creating the idea that an individual being independent leads to greatness. Emerson s writing within this memoir is relatable to young individuals who are looking for themselves, an individual must avoid conformity and false consistency while following their own thoughts making themselves an individual. Within the essay, Emerson uses a range of rhetorical devices to prove that every individual can do great by being an individual and not like everyone else, something that young people everywhere should hear while growing up with the heinous act of peer pressure. In Self Reliance , Emerson adopts the rhetorical strategy of aphorisms to annex what he thinks by enriching his thesis, while allowing a pause in the reader s mind to comprehend just what he is saying. Emerson s honest aphorism advises people to actually believe in themselves in order to be triumphant by saying, To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart, is true for all men, that is genius (Emerson 1) and Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string (Emerson 3). The aphorism demonstrates that believing in themselves, and what is important to them, the reader, is what everyone else does, that being an individual is a genius idea.
