This document discusses the basics of computer hardware and software. It defines hardware as the physical parts of a computer like the keyboard, monitor, chips, and data. Software is defined as programs and data that allow hardware to function through a series of instructions. The document outlines that computers require both hardware and software to work, as each is useless without the other. It provides examples of common computer hardware components like the CPU, memory, hard drive, and input/output devices. It also defines the different types of software like operating systems, applications, and utilities.
Computer malfunctions can range from a minor setting that is incorrect, to spyware, viruses, and as far as replacing hardware and an entire operating system.
While computer hardware configurations vary widely, a "Computer OEM & Repair" technician will work with five general categories of hardware; desktop computers, laptops, servers, computer clusters and smartphones / mobile computing. Technicians also work with and occasionally repair a range of peripherals, including input devices (like keyboards, mice, and scanners), output devices (like displays, printers, and speakers), and data storage devices such as internal and external hard drives and disk arrays. Technicians involved in system administration might also work with networking hardware, including routers, switches, fiber optics, and wireless networks. OEM= Original Equipment Manufacturer.

The hardware components are everything you can physically touch and see in a computer, including all the input and output devices from keyboards, mics, and mice to screens and speakers
computer system consists of two major components, namely, hardware and software.
All physical components that forms computer system are known as computer hardware.
Software is basically collection of different programs that tells computer’s hardware what to do.
Computer System is mainly depends upon Hardware and Software.

Hardware refers to the physical components of a computer system, including devices like the central processing unit (CPU), memory, storage, and input/output peripherals. It represents the tangible, touchable elements that make up a computer or electronic system. On the other hand, software encompasses the intangible programs, applications, and data that enable hardware functionality. It includes operating systems, applications, and utilities that instruct and control the hardware to perform specific tasks. While hardware provides the infrastructure, software serves as the brain, orchestrating operations and allowing users to interact with the system, making the combination of both essential for the functioning of any computer or electronic device.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

6. Technology in Your Life
Hardware can be inside or
outside the computer:
The CPU and hard drive are
inside the computer.
The keyboard, monitor, and
printer are outside the
computer and must be
connected by cables.

Introducing Your Computer
Software is the set of instructions that lets you “talk” to your
computer. Software translates commands
into bits and bytes. Different types of
software have different functions:
Operating system (OS) software -
makes your computer work
Application software - lets you do
different tasks on your computer
Utility software - helps you maintain your
computer and keep it in good running
condition
SOFTWARE
A set of
instructions, also
called a program or
application, that
tells a computer
how to perform
tasks.
OPERATING
SYSTEM (OS)
Software that
controls all the
other software
programs and
allows a computer
to perform basic
tasks.
