Hard Work Pays Off Essay
Embarking on the task of composing an essay on the theme "Hard Work Pays Off" is no easy
feat. The challenge lies not only in the requirement to convey a coherent and compelling
narrative but also in delving into the depths of personal experiences, anecdotes, and universal
truths that resonate with the overarching message. The difficulty is magnified by the need to
strike a delicate balance between inspiration and practicality, avoiding clichГ©s while
maintaining a sense of relatability.
The initial hurdle is conceptualizing a unique angle that sets the essay apart from the plethora of
existing writings on the subject. Crafting an introduction that captivates the reader's attention
and sets the tone for the entire essay poses its own set of challenges. Balancing the exploration
of the abstract concept of hard work with concrete examples and evidence demands a nuanced
approach to prevent the narrative from becoming overly didactic or overly personal.
The body of the essay requires a meticulous organization of ideas, ensuring a logical flow that
sustains the reader's interest. Integrating personal anecdotes or experiences, if applicable, adds
depth to the narrative but also requires a careful selection process to maintain relevance and
coherence. Each paragraph should seamlessly transition to the next, creating a cohesive tapestry
of arguments and supporting evidence.
Moreover, finding the right words to inspire without sounding preachy or overly optimistic is a
fine line to tread. The language must be persuasive, motivating the reader to believe in the merits
of hard work while avoiding the pitfall of oversimplification. Crafting a compelling conclusion
that leaves a lasting impression further contributes to the complexity of the task.
In essence, writing an essay on the topic "Hard Work Pays Off" demands not only a mastery of
language but also a profound understanding of the subject matter. It requires the ability to
synthesize personal experiences, universal truths, and motivational elements into a coherent and
engaging narrative. While the challenge is formidable, the potential impact of a well-crafted
essay on the reader's perspective makes the endeavor worthwhile.

The International Monetary Fund ( Imf )
In the last chapter we looked at how incompetent and politically driven economic
policy making drove Europe into prolonged recession and high unemployment. The
financial crises and fear of a meltdown slowed world economic growth
considerably. In October 2010, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projected 4.6
percent growth for the global economy in 2013; it ended up being just 3 percent.
This difference may not seem like much, but in terms of lost output it is more than
$800 billion, and it is not only in the rich countries. This meant that tens of millions
of people worldwide were pushed into poverty and unemployment, including in
developing countries despite the fact that the big policy mistakes were being made
in Europe. To most of the people who write about these issues, and most of the
media, there was not much that could have been done differently, that would have
assured a speedy and robust recovery. But they are wrong.
One of the more common justifications for the slow recovery and prolonged
unemployment that has followed the Great Recession to varying degrees in both the
United States and Europe is that this is an inevitable result of recessions brought
about by financial crises. This argument seems to have been given added weight by
economists Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff.
While there is some debate over whether recessions caused by financial crises really
do have more prolonged recovery periods, such a historical relationship if it exists
Animal Emotions Essay
Animal Emotions
Do animals feel joy, love, fear, anguish or despair? What ere emotions, and perhaps
more importantly, how do scientists prove animals are capable of emotion? Sea lion
mothers have often been seen wailing painfully and squealing eerily as they watch
their babies being eaten by killer whales. Buffaloes have also been observed sliding
playfully across ice, excitedly screaming Gwaaa. Emotions are defined broadly as
psychological phenomena that help in behavioral management and control. This is a
challenging question to researchers who are trying to determine the answer to this
question. Through current research by close observation combined with
neurobiological research, evidence that animals exhibit fear, joy ... Show more

However many skeptics argue that this is not enough evidence to determine whether
animals have emotions or if they are just exhibiting primary instincts. Nevertheless
many researchers studying animal emotions believe that humans are not the only
animals to experience emotion.
In 1988 at the University of Zurich, Eduard Stammbach set up an experiment with
long tailed macaque monkeys to determine if they were able to rein aggressive
behavior and act cooperatively. Subgroups of monkeys were created, and the lowest
ranking monkey was taught to press a set of levers in a specific sequence that caused
a machine to deliver popcorn. The high ranking monkeys noticed the low ranking
monkeys unique skills. The high ranking monkeys soon began grabbing all the
popcorn. Before long the low ranking monkeys stopped operating the machine. This
did not last long because the higher ranking monkeys began to change their behavior.
The higher ranking monkeys began to approach the lower ranking monkeys more
peacefully, and allowed the lower ranking monkeys a share of the popcorn.
Furthermore some higher ranking monkeys began to groom the lower monkeys even
when the machine was inoperative.
Another experiment by psychologist Robert Miller and his colleagues was designed
to see if a monkey was able to interpret another monkey s facial expression. The
researchers trained rhesus monkeys to pull a lever to avoid getting shocked after a
Bharki Kher Six Women Essay
Constructed Views of the Female Body
Bharki Kher created the cast of Six Women from 2013 2015 using plasters of paris,
wood, and metal. A cast is a process in which a liquid is poured into a mold and
allowed to set into the desired shape, then broken out of the mold. They are life sized
sculptures of realistic female forms, smooth and white and almost easily overlooked
by how simplistic they are. When first looking over this artwork I did not know what
to think about it, but then I considered the fact that these depictions of human aging
bodies were constructed, and not by machine, but by human. Much like the topic
discussed in our lectures surrounding humanism, Kher s constructed the female aging
body to depict the culturally constructed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In conventional western discourses on sexuality the male is taken as active and the
female as passive, and in Kher s plaster construction of seated women she conveys the
constructed passivity of real women who are actually agents in their own life and
culture although they are subjected to the oppression of patriarchy.
The artwork of Six Women by Bharki Kher is a multiple cast art piece that was
made from 2013 2015. It is a composition of six nude female figures made of white
plaster, metal, and paris. They are simplistic life sized forms, uncolored, giving them
an almost unfinished air about them. Like a bare plaster wall you see in new houses.
The bodies show aging female figures, with saggy boobs and stomach rolls in
seated positions. Think about the women you see in media today; thin and flawless
with perky boobs, photoshopped to ideal expectations, gracing the covers of
magazines and commercials we see daily. When first looking at these women I
could not find meaning in the work, but after careful thought I realized the point
Kher was trying to get across, these are realistic female bodies. They contrast the
idea of women s bodies we are presented with in society with actual casts of human
bodies, flawed, aging but still
Pursuing A Career In Cosmetology
Remember when you were about eight and you said you wanted to be a police
officer, teacher, nurse, or even a fire fighter? As a kid, we do not have many worries
when it
comes to a career, our financial situation, or college. All I can remember worrying
about is if I ll

The career I chose a while back in middle school was cosmetology. I remember when

Not only had I had much experience with these various

noticed a
pattern that seemed to appear with every cosmetologist I discovered. It was for the
money not

someone feel gorgeous and happy; unfortunately, that was not what I saw in the

This paper examines Joseph Needham s impact on the historiography of Chinese
Science and Technology (S T), arguing that his great achievements were marred by an
East/West comparative approach, and that subsequent historians have only partly
overcome these restrictions. His multi volume Science and Civilization in China(1954
ongoing) single handedly thrust China into the Western dominated historiography.
Organized along the disciplinary lines of modern science, Needham sought to
document every scientific concept and technology invented in China, which he saw
as the origin of most knowledge before Europe s Scientific Revolution. For
Needham, science in China (and India, and the Middle East) was like the river that

Reviewing Needham s life s work in 1984, famed historian Lynn White, Jr. wrote
that Needham seemed to be doing penance for the Opium War, but that One respects
the exaggerations of a lover. For forty five years Joseph Needham has been in
intellectual love with China and the Chinese. Needham took it as his task to
document millennia of Chinese science and technology. Bringing forth thousands of
unknown primary and ignored secondary documents, he created a portrait of imperial
China as a stable and inventive civilization, morally superior the later Western
empires. Until the sixteenth century, he demonstrated, the flow of knowledge and
technology had mainly gone from East to West. The European Enlightenment,
Scientific Revolution and Industrial Revolution all stood on the shoulders of Chinese
contributions. It was time, Needham argued, to recognize that the West did not have
a monopoly on science:
Surely it would be better to give more attention to the history and values of these non

Renewable Power Generation Can Help Countries Meet
Their...
INTRODUCTION
1.1INTRODUCTION
Renewable power generation can help countries meet their sustainable development
goals through provision of access to clean, secure, reliable and affordable energy.
Renewable energy has gone mainstream, accounting for the majority of capacity
additions in power generation today. Tens of gigawatts of wind, hydropower and
solar photovoltaic capacity are installed worldwide every year in a renewable energy
market that is worth more than a hundred billion USD annually. Other renewable
power technology markets are also emerging. Recent years have seen dramatic
reductions in renewable energy technologies costs as a result of research and
development (R D) and accelerated deployment.

In 2015, Egypt added 200 MW of new wind power, bringing the country s total wind
capacity to 810 MW. Egypt s wind farms are located in three regions along the Red
Sea coast: the biggest one is the 545 megawatt Zafar Ana wind farm consisting of 700
turbines; the 200 MW Gabal El Zayet wind farm was inaugurated in November
2015, and consists of 134 turbines; and the 5 MW Hurghada wind farm. By the end
of 2015 South Africa had over 500 wind turbines producing a total of 1GW (Fried, et
al., 2015).
By the end of 2015 the number of countries with more than 1,000 MW installed
capacity was 26: including 17 in Europe; 4 in Asia Pacific (China, India, Japan
Australia); 3 in North America (Canada, Mexico, US), 1 in Latin America (Brazil)
and 1 in Africa (South Africa). By the end of the same year eight countries had more
than 10,000 MW of installed capacity including China (145,362 MW), the US
(74,471 MW), Germany (44,947 MW), India (25,088 MW), Spain (23,025 MW), UK
(13,603 MW), Canada (11,205 MW), and France (10,358 MW) (Fried, et al., 2015).

Zimbabwe has a low average annual wind speed of 3 m/s. Midlands has
considerably higher wind speeds than the rest of the country, between 3m/s and 6m

designs of industrial wind turbines on the market today work at wind speeds that are
above the midlands average. Current turbine designs are not well suited for such
Bud Miller Bombing
Skimming low above the rooftops of Tokyo, the crew of the North American
Aviation B 25B No. 40 2292 didn t have time to climb to 1500 feet, the minimum
distance considered safe for bombing. First Lieutenant Travis Hoover leveled off at
900 feet and bombardier 1LT Richard Bud Miller manually released his bombs, 3
500 lb. demolition bombs and 1 incendiary cluster. It was impossible to see the
results of the bombing from the flight deck or from the Greenhouse, Miller s

that he could see the results. Yes, Sir, he reported to Hoover. All four hit close

Persuasive Essay On Dental Care
We all have 32 teeth in our mouth and they are indispensable. The tooth, in itself,
consists of two parts: the root buried in the bone and the crown that is in the oral
cavity. In addition, the cost of a quality brush is now quite low compared to the many
benefits.
Dental care can help in many cases: to restore a devitalized tooth, to cover and
support a tooth that has a large filling when there is not much left healthy material,
to protect a weakened tooth, to cover a dental implant it is fixed with cement or is
glued, to restore a broken cracked or very worn tooth and to cover a poorly formed or
discolored tooth. Dental care is usually reimbursed by insurance.
The gum is the part of the oral mucosa that covers the maxillary bone and the
mandible at the level of the tooth implantation area. First of all, let s give you a little
reminder of what dental care is and why it is needed. Remember, many dental
practices also offer periodontal dentistry, which is gum care.
Regular brushing of the teeth allows removal of plaque. Today, the brush does almost
everything alone. The purpose of these devices is to eliminate food residues and
dental plaque in the most inaccessible areas of the mouth.
Different instruments allow to get rid of tartar. That s why dentists today almost
unanimously recommend the use of the electric toothbrush. Its micro pulsations and
rotational movements are the enemy of tartar. The tartar is then taken off. It is
therefore an effective preventive weapon
What Is Animal Farm Parallel To Russian Revolution
The novel Animal Farm by George Orwell was a parallel to the Russian
Revolution. The examples of the Russian Revolution in animal farm are the start
of it when the stroke of Old Major happens with represents Lenin s stroke. The
murder of Snowball was Trotsky being murdered and forced into exile by Stalin.
The dogs represent the secret police that shut down any of the opposition to make
Stalin or Napoleon look bad. The last example of the parallel to the Russian
Revolution was Napoleon says it s better now than when the farmer Mr. Jones was
there, which is a direct parallel to Stalin saying its better without Czar Nicholas. The

and since it is a democracy where everyone agrees to make decisions, Napoleon

the working animals and the pigs who were the brains of the operation. After
gathering forces the farmers join together again to try and retake Animal Farm from
the animals. The animals of the farm were always prepared for this action to happen
so they were prepared. When the attack of regaining animal farm happened the
animals used they plan they had created and successfully pushed out the farmers
trying to regain the land. The animals didn t account for Mr. Jones who had planted

were in the front. It started a process that they had to rebuild the
Evaluating Rasmussen s Policies Of Academic Integrity
When reviewing Rasmussen s policies of academic integrity, the first very important
step is to ensure that each student is informed as well as equipped to take on the
assignments that are asked of them. As the instructor, it is important to continually
make sure expectations are placed before the students in a clear, understandable, and
attainable manner. Additionally, that resources are made available to help them meet
these expectations.
The initial gut reaction to the quality of Bridget s assignments would be of shock and
slightly insulted. Considering her performance previously in class, this action from
Bridget I would assume would have been taken out of desperation. What is believed
could possibly account for her action are several situations. These situations could
include, but not limited to, lack of time management, lack of understanding, fear of
the grade that she may ultimately receive in the class with the previous mediocre
quality, also simply not wanting to do the work. Additionally, there could have been a
family situation that resulted in Bridget not be able to complete the work. For these
reasons continually interaction with the students is very important. As the adjunct,
through interaction with this student it will be easier to determine the intention of
Bridget.
Considering that it stats in the Rasmussen SOP Do NOT communicate to the student
that they have been accused of an Academic Integrity Violation , there will be limited

Defining Marketing

Defining Marketing
As a personal definition, marketing is a strategy to promote consumer awareness and
positive feelings towards a brand or product in order to encourage the consumer to
purchase or use that product. In more specific terms, the American Marketing
Association (2012) defines marketing as the activity, set of institutions, and processes
for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value
for customers, clients, partners, and society at large. A simpler definition of
marketing, as identified by the U.S. Small Business Administration (2012), are the
activities and strategies that result in making products available that satisfy customers

Prior to this marketing campaign, diamonds were not often used for the purpose of
engagement rings. The A Diamond is Forever ads made consumers think differently
about the product by associating the gift of a diamond with romance and eternal love.
Today, it is tradition for a man to present the woman he plans to marry with a
diamond engagement ring. Touted as one of the best advertising campaigns of the
twentieth century by Advertising Age magazine (1999), The De Beers Diamond
Company continues to use the ads to convey their message that diamonds are
timeless, valuable, and romantic.
State Farm s Marketing Ranked number one in insurance providers, State Farm
Insurance has been using their current marketing strategy Like a good neighbor,
State Farm is there for more than 40 years. This marketing strategy reinforces State
Farm s image as being a neighborhood company with neighborly agents. Current
president, Edward B. Rust, Jr. defined being a good neighbor as someone to be
trusted; a courteous, friendly source of help when help is needed; someone you can
count on; someone who cares (State Farm, 2012). This traditional marketing strategy
of good service resonates especially with the older generation who are willing to pay
a premium for good service.
Conclusion Overall, the measure of a good marketing strategy is not only the return
on investment but also whether the campaign
Early Asian Art Research Paper
After reading about Early Asian Art and the Art of the Americas, I chose to write
about the Terracotta Army and the Colossal Heads. The Terracotta Army is an
underground army with 8,000 soldiers and 100 horses made out of clay. The
warriors was very appealing to me, because there are thousands of life size
warriors and it is amazing how each warrior face and expression differ from one
another. The soldiers are utilitarian because they were made to protect Shi Huangdi
throughout eternity. The process of making the soldiers involved 1,000 skillful
potters, who molded and carved the clay. The legs, torsos, fingers, arms and heads
of the soldiers were molded and then carved into the figures. After the clay was fired,
the warriors were painted
Adventurous Moment Essay
Two Vacation Spots Adventure! Everyone probably has an adventurous moment
they will remember. When I explain my adventurous moment to friends, I never
forget the scenarios that happen between 2010 and 2012. Fortunately, I visited two
different cities in two different States during this time doing the same activity,
carrying out the same fun experience from an internship, but had different results
and likes. Initially, in the summer of 2010 I visit Folly Beach, and then summer
2011 was Pensacola Beach, and finally was Folly Beach again during summer
2012. Not only do both beaches clinch personal memories in my head, but both
areas have something in common to pull your interest, as well as they differ such
that you can be able to choose where to spend a short vacation. Fortunately, it was a
sales internship, a program with Varsity Company International during which we ll
sell educational books during the summer to make some money, and at the end of
the summer the sales manager will choose one place where all participants will go
to celebrate success. Confidently, I became part of the program in 2010 and the
memory wasn t impressive. Unfortunately, 2010 memory wasn t the best due to the
fact that Ruth Angelina was the closest friend I met during the program; I didn t

Beach by Ruth. Courageously, I went back in 2011 and the memory wasn t the best
either. Following the 12 week program, I was sick
Essay On The Populist Movement
Why was the Populist movement so popular in the late 1800s? Before answering
this question, answer this, what is the Populist movement? The populist movement
was for a chance of political, social, and economical equality within American
society. Strongly appealing to the farmers and industrial workers, the populists
tried to bring the people back in power, rather than the money that was controlling
civilization. This movement was very popular in the 1800s because it was trying to
gain the rights back of the working class because of the rise in prices of crops and
how the West was over producing food, which caused them to be transport their food

This Party would impact the election of 1892 and 1896 in a huge way. There was
two parties, the Democrats who were the south and farmers, and the Republicans
who were the north and wealthy business. A plan was created to protect the farmer
from downturns in agricultural prices. Under this plan farmers could hold crops off
the market when prices were low and then receive loans from the government
protected by crops in storage. To gain support from industrial workers, the platform
also created an eight hour workday, pensions, and the restriction of immigration. This
strategic political goal of the Populist Party was to displace the Democratic Party by
making an alliance between farmers and industrial workers. The Populists, also tried
to fix the social conflict between Southern blacks and whites, arguing that shared
economic interests were more important than racial differences. The next important
wave of populist reformism emerged in the 1890s. Various regional farm groups,
known as Farmers Alliances, took root and grew rapidly. These included the Southern
Alliance and the Agricultural Wheel in the south, and the Northwestern Alliance in
northern regions. The Alliance also captured eight southern legislatures. In the West
Alliance candidates dominated elections in Kansas and Nebraska and secured
important power bases in the legislatures of Minnesota and South
Behavior Disorders And Attention Deficit Hyperactivity...
Behavior disorder is defined as Any of various forms of behavior that are
considered inappropriate by members of the social group to which an individual
belongs. (The American Heritage Stedman s Medical Dictionary, 2015) Due to its
broad definition, methods of identification, diagnosis, and treatments are varied
and controversial. After my son was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder
and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in November of 2012, I recognized a
stigma within the community surrounding behavior disorders that made it difficult
to find the appropriate support for my son and my family. This paper will discuss
the causes of behavior disorders, methods for proper identification, and problems
that can arise in the home, school, and community of a child with a behavior
disorder. Behavior disorders vary in symptoms and name, and can be divided into
several classifications, including anxiety disorders, disruptive behavior disorders,
emotional disorders, dissociative disorders, and pervasive developmental disorders.
In addition to Sensory Processing Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder, Bipolar Disorder and Autism fall under the behavior umbrella. Like many
other mental illnesses, direct causes of these disorders are hard to pinpoint. Although
the exact cause of most mental illnesses is not known, it is becoming clear through
research that many of these conditions are caused by a combination of biological,
psychological and
Literary Analysis Of Maya Angelou s Phenomenal Woman
The poem Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou, was voiced by Maya Angelou
herself, and the audience hearing that she was trying to reach was the pretty
women in the world who have a definition of flawless that Maya does not agree
with. She wanted her audience to know that while they may be beautiful, that she
is beautiful and flawless by her own terms and that being flawless does not only
mean being small and looking like the models in the magazines. One could argue
that her audience is all the women in the world who are not small. She is also
reaching out to women who have some of the same characteristics that she has
because they are relatable. Men are also her audience as she goes on to explain why
men find her attractive, this is also a device used to show the audience that many
different cases of women can be viewed as attractive. A womanwho loves herself is a
woman who will attract a man of good substance. Maya Angelouwas born on April 4,
1928, in St. Louis, MO, and died at the age of 86 on May 28, 2014, in Winston
Salem, NC. During her time here on this earth, she served as a famous American
poet, civil rights activist and memoirist. She published seven autobiographies, three
books of essays, several books of poetry, and was credited with a list of plays,
movies, and television shows spanning over 50 years. Maya Angelou was well
known for being a great writer and civil rights activist, which made her receive up to
thirty honorary degrees and numerous awards,
Barno s Role In The Military
After reading these pieces it was easy to speculate that the authors are of adult age
with some degree of higher education based off of the fact their work is published as
a respected opinion. The authors either mentioned attending prestigious events or
schools. Rini, attended Georgetown University, and I can suspect Barno, is military
affiliated by his mentions to the event of for governor, Tom Ridge, and his extensive
knowledge on the military. I would assume the authors range anywhere from early
forties to early fifties. This can be supported by mentions such as, when Goldberger

fact he mentions the old telephone exchanges which were discontinued in... Show

As for in A New Moral Compact, Barno truly moved me by making a case worth
defending and giving some serious consideration. When Barno questions the audience
, ...where is the moral hazard the personal equity stake that shapes our collective
judgement (17) personally, I took a moment and really reflected on his argument.
This leads me to say he was successful in his intended purpose due to having me
take carefully consideration not just in his claim but in the logistics of our present
military. Finally, in the piece written by Rini, I can understand her points and she
clearly states her audience while closing her point by asking, ...does continuing to
apply the name of such a person express our values, rather than the values of a gone
generation? (24). By asking this she narrows her audience to those specifically in
today s generation asking them to involve themselves in such ideas and thoughts.
Rini s main focus is convincing you to be an active voice by moving, you to agree,
as an act of civic love (25). The readings all address current issues despite whenever
they were written it still holds true and successfully engaged me in critical thought.
When questioning the credibility of the authors, I took into account if the material
was up to date and if the author s opinions had merit. Since we were told to do this
discussion without researching them I focused
Essay About My First Job
As Sean Maher once said, Starting a new job is always scary, it s like the first day
of school. In other words, starting something new is always terrifying. We get so
used to being in our comfort zone that when something changes, we start to
question all of it. One of the first steps to becoming an adult that gets people out of
their comfort zone is getting their first job. People don t know where to start or
what they will enjoy, but they just know it needs to be done. My challenge was
applying for my first job and realizing it was time to start becoming an adult. It was

stories. Even though it would have been more ideal to meet in person to conduct
the interview, the phone call still felt natural and helpful. A few times over the
course of the interview it was hard to hear what she had said. I did not want to
interrupt her, so I missed a few details. Overall, it went very well, and it lasted the
perfect amount of time. Since I am her daughter and already know key
characteristics about her life, she felt comfortable sharing with me. Even when
talking about her ex husband, she did not hold back. To begin, Christine Howell

Story Of An Hour Analysis
The Story of an Hour by Kate Choplin is only one thousand words long; yet there is
strong character development throughout. It also has seemingly strong undertones of
social issues, such as independence as a woman in the 1800s. Many of those in the
literary field argue whether Choplin s intention was to have underlaying tones of
positivity and feminism, or if it is a story about irony told through a woman named
Louise Mallard, a woman with heart troubles who dies of happiness when she finds
out that her husband is in fact still alive. Lawrence I. Berkove argues the latter with
refuting arguments and a close analysis of the text with evidence. Berkove starts his
argumentoff by refuting other arguments on the topic of this short story. He
references the standard for the interpretation of the story by Toth and Seyersted;
that the story of Louise Mallard is an extreme example of the theme of self
assertion [and] feminist bent whereas he believes Louise is an immature egotist and
a victim of her own extreme self assertion. He elaborates on his refutation by stating
these positions are all read into the story from non textual assumptions. Since the
narrator is not first person it is third person omniscient we cannot assume that the
narrator is a reliable narrator. He backs up this argument by showing that the narrator
is contradicted by other textual evidence, as well as citing paragraphs 12, 13, and 14.
Within these paragraphs, the narrator tries to take the audience into Louise s mind,
however...there is no textual evidence of also ascribing them to the narrator. Lousie
thinks that she wants to live for herself instead of for her husband and that can be
interpreted as wanting to be an independent woman. However, Berkove explains that
this is not the case and her justifications are extravagant, unrealistic statements and
that she does not love her husband for the original reasons she married him anymore.
Berkove also furthers his argument that Louise essentially killed herself, by
analyzing the text itself and its possible connotations. Since the story begins with the
line Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, although vague, it gives the
reader inference to base her actions on
Corporate Recovery Plan For Harnischfeger Corporation
Background: Harnischfeger Corporation was a machinery company based in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The company had originally been started as a partnership
in 1884 and was incorporated in Wisconsin in 1910 under the name Pawling and
Harnischfeger. Its name was changed to the present one in 1924. The company
went public in 1929 and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange (Palepu,
1985). Harnischfeger was a leading producer of construction, mining and electrical
equipment. In 1984, the corporation s net profit was drawn by $1.28 per share due
to the severe financial crisis that the company had faced during the last three years.
The worldwide recession in the early 1980s caused a significant drop in the demand
for the company s product starting in 1981 and ended in a series of events that
shook the financial stability of Harnischfeger (Palepu, 1985). Harnischfeger
Corporation in order to survive in this critical situation had decided to develop a
corporate recovery plan. The plan consisted of four elements: changes in the top
management, cost reductions to lower the break even point, reorientation of the
company s business, and debt restricting and recapitalization. The company s overall
goal was to restructure its strategy for upcoming years (Palepu, 1985). Introduction:
In 1984, Harnischfeger made some significant changes to its accounting policy that
had effect the corporation s reported profit. They have reported profits during each of
the four quarters, ending the year
International Real Estate Is Important For Your Properties...
International Real Estate Shows
What is the best way to meet many foreign buyers for your properties and establish
personal connections with potential business partners abroad? To participate in
international real estate shows in the foreign countries of course. This chapter is
mostly aimed at realtors and developers, although for a private seller it would be
also informative if you want to have your property presented at such a show, then you
have to know what to ask your realtor whether they go to any international real estate
shows, in what countries, what are the results and how your property might be
represented at the upcoming shows, where and when.
It is the most exciting and also the most expensive way of reaching out to the market
of the foreign buyers for international real estate the costs of flights, hotels, visas plus
exhibition fees and translation and interpreting sum up. This method of real estate
marketing to foreigners can be effective or just a huge money waster depending on a
number of circumstances.
Of course, as always you would like to get a good return on your investment which
is an impressive number of sales of your international properties to foreigners
resulting from your participation in a real estate show in this case.
Here are 4 major risks (to lose your money) involved in going to a real estate show

Analysis Of Literary Analysis In Ulysses By Lord Alfred...
Literature and poetry in particular have the potential to make profound impressions
on their readers. In the poem Ulysses by Lord Alfred Tennyson, the speaker Ulysses
argues for his mariners to come back out to sea. Karen Prior s article How Reading
Makes Us More Human argues how reading makes one more human. On the other
hand, Tennyson makes his argument through Ulysses, as he talks to his mariners
while Prior makes her argument to teachers of higher of education. While Tennyson
and Prior both use rhetorical situations to persuade their audiences, Prior connects
to her audience better by citing compelling and exhaustive research, eliciting
sympathy from her audience through her narrative voice, and establishing her
credibility by using personal examples and research. Prior s uses captivating
evidence in her article in order to persuade the audience that reading makes one
more human. For example, Prior takes research from psychologists from York
University and University of Toronto which states [people] who read fiction appear
to be better able to understand other people, empathize with them and view the
world from their perspective (para. 2). With the use of notable research, the reader
starts to question if reading does make one more human. Prior then goes on to use
research done by the director of the Center for Reading and Language Research. The
director Maryanne Wolf states, the fragility of the brain s ability to read with the kind

prevent entanglement during fishing is be cautious of all your belongings your
fishing gears or any equipment like trash. To prevent gears from entangling animals

of any fishinglines and lures. For any food products that were purchased on the

Scapegoats In The Crucible
In the play The Crucible, the use of scapegoats is rampant; the main use being to
place blame onto others in order to deflect blame from themselves or to help reach
a goal. Those that don t agree with the majority or have differing ideas are outcasts
and easily made scapegoats. Many of the scapegoats in the play can attribute the
blame they receive to the antagonist, Abigail Williams. Three primary examples of
people that are scapegoats because of Abigail are, the Parris servant Tituba, the
Proctor s servant Mary Warren, and Elizabeth Proctor the wife of Abigail s past
infatuation. At the start of the play Abigail faces accusations from Parris and
Reverend Hale of dancing in the woods. Knowing that dancing in the woods is a
very critical offense... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the play we see instances where Abigail shows she still has feelings for
John saying things like Give me a word, John. A soft word. , but she is only met
with rejection from John No, no, Abby. That s done with. . (Miller 22) as he has
moved on and is trying to live a more righteous life. Even though John has made his
intentions clear Abby continuously attempts to sway him ...do you tell me you ve
never looked up at my window? (Miller 23) believing he will still come back to her.
After still facing rejection from John, Abigail believes the only reason he denies
her is because of his wife. Knowing that she has the power to condemn people by
accusing them of witchcraft, Abigail decides that it is the only option she has to
be with John. As time goes on the Proctor family is torn apart when Cheever, a
clerk of the court, comes with a warrant for Elizabeth. The Proctor s find out the
reason for the arrest is because of attempted murder through the use of witchcraft.
It is to our understanding that a poppet that is in the possession of Elizabeth, given
to her by their servant, Mary, was used to attempt to murder Abigail . As the
situation goes on we discover the entire ordeal was an elaborate plan by Abigail
when Mary says ...she saw me sewin it in court. Or better still: Ask Abby, Abby sat
beside me when I made it. revealing that it was a plan by Abigail. Abigail saw Mary
making a poppet for Elizabeth and came to the realization that it would probably be
her best chance to get Elizabeth out of the picture. By placing blame on Elizabeth,
Abigail is able to further her own personal goal of being with
Main Causes Of The Great Depression
The peak of the U.S. Stock Market in August 1929, which occurred due to an
increase in stock speculation, overshadowed the spiral towards the Great Depression.
The main causes of the Great Depression included the following: furlough of
employees due to decrease in production, procreation of debt, and a mass of bank
loans, that were used to purchase stocks. Although the causes of the Great Depression
seem pertinent to the Great Crash, they do not wholly encompass the event. In
actuality, the Great Crash began on October 18, which is when the stock prices began
to decline. Stockholders noticed the downturn, and many sold off stocks on October
24, Black Thursday. In turn, investors and bankers bought a portion of the sold stocks
to attempt stabilization
Social Learning Theory
There are various different factors that influence aggression in both children and
adults. More so, significant research has proven that there are distinct differences
between aggression shown by men and women. Aggression is behavior intended to
harm another individual, and extreme cases on aggression is called violence. In 2010,
90% of murderers in the United States were male. Numerous researchers have found
that the gender differences in aggressionare astounding, and that males show
aggression a significant amount more than females. These differences are primarily
because of what we learn, and what we experience throughout the lifespan. It is true
that both males and females learn aggression through learning and experience, but the

As children, boys and girls are shown different things about what is appropriate
behavior for their gender, and thus how they should handle their anger. The things
we are taught about how our gender should behave are called gender roles. These
gender roles are well known and are thought to be the norms of how males and
females should carry themselves. In today s society males are told that they are
supposed to be aggressive, forceful, masculine, and dominant. Conversely, females
are taught to be passive, nurturing, supportive and caring. One possible reason this
is so is because men are usually the head of the household, while woman typically
care for the children more. These norms are taught from birth via gender
socialization. This relates to aggression because the way we believe we should act
leads to how we approach different

Teen Activity Persuasive Essay

substances, getting into trouble, and causing violent scenes. They also are still trying
to discover who they are, what interests them, who to hang around with, and just

Chris Mccandless’ Decisions to Leave Were
Justified.
In the book Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless had many decisions
to leave his old life behind and start over. Chris decision to leave was justified.
When he left without saying goodbye, it made it easier for him to let go of his past
and focus on what he wants to do in the future. Three reasons why his decisions to
leave his family without saying a word were justified were that McCandless could
make all his own decisions, nobody had a chance to tell him that he could not leave
and it did not allow anyone to find out where he was going. All three of these
reasons show that McCandless decisions were justified. The following text specifies

Distal Radius Fracture Essay
Diagnosis Fractured distal radius and ulna
Etiology:
The primary cause of a fracture is trauma from car accidents, sports injuries and falls.
The trauma may be a direct blow to the bone or an indirect force from muscle
contractions or pulling on the bone. Other factors that may contribute to fractures
include: vigorous exercise, malnutrition, genetic factors, and osteoporosis. The most
common cause of a distal radius fracture is falling onto an outstretched arm
(Ignatavicius Workman, 2013). Wrist fractures of the distal radius are common and
may present special problems for the surgeon and therapist. There are several
categories of distal radius fractures, but the Colles fracture of the distal radius is the
most common injury to the wrist and may result in limitations in wrist flexion and
extension, as well as forearm pronation and supination, resulting from the
involvement of the distal radioulnar joint (Early, p.613).
Signs and Symptoms:
The signs and symptoms of a distal radial and ulnar fracture could include: pain,

Voltaire s Candide and Mockery Essay
On the surface, Voltaire s Candide seems to be about every stupidity, every
transgression, and every immoral act conceivable to man. It is a satirical and
absurd look at life and religion. It makes a mockery of organized religious
institutions and leaders. The hypocrisy of the actions of these leaders makes the
reader wonder if Voltaireis against every religious order and even God, or is it simply
the hypocrisy he abhors. In examining this book, it is a satirical way of looking at
the hypocrisy of actions while holding true that goodness outside of these institutions
and inside the person is what is important and imperative. Voltaire seems to write this
book as a rebuttal of the theory of Leibniz.

that evil and good are always balanced. The sailor he saves is a representation of evil.
Candide meets an officer of the Inquisition in chapter 5. The Inquisitors were
responsible for persecuting thousands of people by burning them at the stake for
transgressions or heresy against the church. The Inquisitor pokes fun at Pangloss
by saying Apparently you don t believe in original sin, sir, for if all is for the best,
there can be no fall or punishment (27). This is another example of hypocrisy of
religious ideals. Pangloss is hanged for this belief, but he later is found to be alive.
We wonder if this is again a parody of the Crucifixion.
Candide meets an old woman who brings him CunГ©gonde. CunГ©gonde tells of
how her captor, Don Issachar, a Jew, and the Inquisitor share her during the week.

Absorbency Of Sweat Research Paper
Every day, humans sweat, due to their biological system of thermoregulatory
through the sweat glands. Usually, sweat glands can produce upwards of 10 liters
of sweat a day, while exposed to heat or during exercise, but while inactive the
sweat glands produce 1 liter per day. When sweat is secreted to the surface of the

peoples skin are not bare. The clothing they wear are made with different textiles

How Is Anne Bradstreet Presented In An Author To Her
Poem
Anne Bradstreet s poem An Author to Her Poem is about her child metaphorically.
She has a plethora of doubts about her writing. Throughout her writing, she tells us
how she feels through her use of the term child in reference to her writing. It starts
off with her addressing her book as her own child. The child is being born and
cared for. The birth of her child is actually expressing the complex attitude of how
low regards she has towards her own work. Bradstreet is inundated in her internal
struggles over her writingthat has been published and seen by all. The Author to
Her Book expresses some of the emotions that Bradstreet feels when her poems
filled with her emotions are published. Her views of her artistic child explain to us
her feelings towards her writing. The birth of the book reflects what she sees in
herself. She believes that she created a monster as it says, I cast thee by as one
unfit for light the visage was so irksome in my sight (lines 9 10). She personifies
her book to make it seem uglier than it really it is. Bradstreet uses personification in

Definition Essay On Mercy
The Meaning of Mercy
What does the word mercy really mean between two people? In many different
situations the meaning of mercy has a different meaning. The word mercy is difficult
to call necessary when really it is more of a choice, but it s still important because
without an understanding we wouldn t know when to show it. In some situations
mercy can be life, while in others mercy can be death. The difference is stark, but in
the end it comes down to a simple common base for how it s defined. In the end, the
core definition of mercy comes down to showing compassion by their own choice to
someone at a disadvantage. Mercy can be shown between two competing parties, by
respecting each other s requests. Recently, in the 2016 American election,... Show

Mercy is only in the person who chooses to give it, and forcing it to happen
invalidates the honest compassion that comes with it. The phrase it blesseth him
that gives, and him that takes means that it would benefit both people to show
mercy. Mercy does not always have to be at the detriment of the person showing it,
but it can help both people, even if only one is at a disadvantage. Portia , the
person talking in the quote, is asking mercy of Shylock, the other party, comparing
it to the gentle rain from heaven . Later she says it becomes the throned monarch
better than his crown , which is comparing mercy to the suiting of a crown, and how
mercy is greater than it in that respect. Those with lots of power should be the ones
with the greatest ability to show mercy, and how that means more than the power of
having the crown. She also says that it blesses him that gives, and him that takes ,
which means that mercy does not only benefit the person who is receiving it, but also
the person giving it. Mercy is something that can help the merciful and the one

Poverty And Poverty Quotes
Almost half of the entire world is so greatly impoverished that they live on less than
$2.50 per day, and at least eighty percent live on less than ten dollars each day. With
this much of the human population affected by such a terrible issue they must have a
very strong will power to survive. The issue of povertyrequires people to endure
certain circumstances which could be similar to the ones shown in Angela s Ashesby
Frank McCourtor The Street by Ann Petry. McCourt demonstrates a mindset of
survival by depicting a little boy stealing to provide for his starving family. Petry
uses a single black mother in search of a new home while also facing a violent wind
storm. The passages from Angela s Ashes by Frank McCourt and The Street by Ann
Petry use characters, events, and settings to help prove the theme that when people
are affected by poverty, they keep moving forward with the help of perseverance.
While writing Angela s Ashes, Frank McCourt used characters, events, and setting to
portray the theme that people who struggle with poverty require perseverance. First,
McCourt uses the main character, Frank, to help support his theme. The narrator of
the story explains that he has to do a lot to provide for his family when Frank
thinks, I can t spend my whole life running around lifting lemonade from pubs
(McCourt 10). This is significant because it shows that Frank and his family struggle
with poverty which prevents them from being able to go out and buy food

and health declines (Guttmacher, 2012).
It has been shown that there is a positive correlation between family planning and a
woman s level of schooling and lower fertility rates (Joshi Schultz, 2013, p.161).
Hypotheses for the decline in fertility rates are both that higher educated women
may have more skills to assess and seek out contraception, as well as the ability to
choose employment over having children (Joshi Schultz, 2013, p.161). They also
may simply be unable to attend school pregnant or must drop out to care for their
children (HIV Prevalence, 2010,
Personal Narrative-Atlantic Way
The days leading up to the fifth of August had been characteristically Irish, complete
with clouds in Connemara, a daylong drizzle in Dingle, and forty mile per hour
winds at the Cliffs of Moher (which, under said conditions, were more deserving of
their Princess Bride alias, the Cliffs of Insanity). In Ireland, the island nation that gifts
its western seaboard with 225 days of rain each year, fickle weather is a fact of life.
But now, for eight hours, my family needed the Wild Atlantic Way to tame itself
perhaps, for just one day, the Mild Atlantic Way could suffice?
We had made our reservations to land on Skellig Michael five months in advance.
Now, midway through our road trip down the western coast of Ireland, we d

An awed silence overtook the stern of the boat as the looming island grew larger
and larger upon approach. To the left of me, my mom widened her eyes, a lifelong
fear of heights flashing across her face. The captain didn t need to turn around to
know what was happening. From the wheelhouse, he simply laughed. That s Little
Skellig over there. We ve still got a ways to go.
From a distance, Little Skellig could almost be mistaken for a snow capped
mountain. Up close, however, the source of the island s feathery white dusting
grows obvious. One of the largest bird colonies in the world, Little Skellig is an
annual breeding ground for more than 20,000 northern gannets. By no means,
however, should you allow the island s name to trick you. Towering over our boat at
a height of 440 feet, Little Skellig is far from little. In Gaelic, the word Sceillic
means a particularly steep rock. Head craned back as we cruised past the first Skellig,
etymology didn t elude me for a

Losing Tenants
Losing tenants can be expensive. You re losing the rental amount, but you re also
spending money in advertising and labor intensive tasks to turn over the apartment.
Renter retention is vital for your business, and happy tenants stay in their units for
years. There are unique challenges that go along with owning an apartment building
whether it s one unit or a large rental property. In some cases, it s easier to have
procedures in place when you re overseeing more than one unit. It becomes your job
instead of being a sideline bit of income in addition to your regular employment.
10 Ways to Keep Tenants Happy
1. Welcoming Them to the Neighborhood
You should be aiming to keep these tenants long term. Once you ve vetted them
properly, and know they are right for your property, you ll want to keep them happy.
That begins from the moment they sign the lease. Have a welcome packet handy ...

Respect Your Tenant s Privacy
Tenants have a right to expect a reasonable amount of privacy. When you need to
make repairs or do inspections, they should have advanced notice unless there s an
emergency. The welcome packet should talk about what will be done in the matter of
emergency repairs where the landlord has to enter the unit immediately. You should
never enter the unit without the tenant s knowledge.
5. Maintenance and Repairs in a Timely Manner
When you have a procedure for taking on routine maintenance and repairs, the
apartment itself as well as the common areas and the building itself will stay in good
repair. This is vital for keeping the tenant happy. Landlords who have pride in their
property will have happy tenants with respect for the property too.
6. Improvements and Upgrades Regularly
Along with the proper repairs and maintenance, the landlord should be updating and
making small improvements continually to the property. For example, a porch might
be upgraded with more aesthetically pleasing railings leading up the stairs to the
porch.

Trait Factor Essay
Trait Factor (Parsons)
As a person, my qualities involve empathy, sympathy, compassion, and caring for
those in hardship. Through my upbringing, I took an interest aiding to animals,
such for dogs, cats, and fish, who were neglected. At age ten years old, I rescued
an orange cat by the name of Ginger. Ginger became the best furry friend, as a
result animal rescue became my life calling. Since, I was/am caring and loving, I
explored professions relating to aiding others. According to Parsons, to make an
occupational choice, you must have a clear understanding of yourself, be

Accordingly, investigative, social, and conventional traits are the attributes in the
counseling profession. As stated above, school counseling profession complements
my personal and environmental characteristics. Investigative traits consist of problem
solving and preciseness. A counselor is faced with complex issues when working with
children or teenagers. Often, counselors search for solution to assist a student
academically or socially. If a student is suffering academically, a counselor will
research the reasoning behind the matter. For myself, I work with adults and
teenagers who are on the spectrum. Therefore, complex issue arises daily. As a result,
I take the initiative to search solutions and compare the results with my colleagues.
Secondly, the requirements of assisting individuals on the spectrum is integrated into
the community. It involves, working, helping, and teaching him/her to interact
appropriately out in the public. For example, people on the spectrum often live with
anxiety. Thus, when traveling to new surroundings, a staff member might encounter
an episode of anxiety. So, I learned several techniques to redirect the individual and
reduce the anxiety. The social aspect of school counseling is interacting with
students, administration, and parents. As stated above, I am employed by an agency
for individuals with disabilities. That requires me to interact with family and staff
members to assure
The Connecticut River, The Common Sewer Overflow And
Sewer...
Introduction
In this research paper I will be talking about the Connecticut River, the common
sewer overflow and sewer discharge that goes into the river, I will be focusing on the
pollutants that are in the CT river, I will also focus on the high density towns and the
affect it has on them, then I will talk about the ecological impacts and economical
aspects. The Connecticut River is the longest river in the New England region, it
spans through five states Maine (Small portions), Vermont, New Hampshire,
Massachusetts and Connecticut, discharging into the Long island sound. The river
serves more than two million people throughout New England. The main issue with
the river is the untreated storm water and sewer waste that is being discharged into
it which causes many harmful effects not only to the many different species that call
the CT River its home, but to the people that live around the CT River. Combined
sewer overflows (CSOs), the discharging of combined sewer systems directly into
surface waters upon capacity overload, are a large source of pollution of U.S.
waterways. A report from the Environment and Connecticut Research and policy
center has said that industrial facilities have discharged 224,029 pounds of toxic
waste into the Connecticut waterways in the year of 2012. There are many
government agencies such as the EPA and committees like the Connecticut River
Cleanup Committee that are raising funds and awareness in order to help clean up the
Connecticut River
Poverty Is A Global Concern And Its Eradication
Poverty is a global concern and its eradication is becoming surmountable. This is
primarily due to the challenges posed by international and national causes
respectively. Besides, the complexity of the phenomenon has not lend itself to be
easily eradicated. Little wonder the world continues to struggle to eradicate poverty.
Africa is one of the poorest countries on the universe and research and data show that
Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in Sub Sahara (UNDP, 2015). Sierra
Leone s poverty has been a growing concern in spite of its numerous natural resources
and international financial and economic interventions. It is therefore worth
investigating the trends of the country s poverty and how it has impacted its people
in the country.
Therefore, task of this paper is to examine the trend in which poverty in Sierra Leone
is either changing or stagnating and the disadvantages associated with poverty among
children. Consideration will also be given to policy in relation to the findings.
The first part of the essay will give a summary of the historical background of the
country. This chapter will throw light into the socio political and economic
foundations of Sierra Leone.
Chapter two of the essay will concentrate on the definition of poverty as perceived by
different authors. These definitions throw light into the different perspectives of
poverty and discuss various measurements in assessing poverty especially in
developing countries.

  • 1. Hard Work Pays Off Essay Embarking on the task of composing an essay on the theme "Hard Work Pays Off" is no easy feat. The challenge lies not only in the requirement to convey a coherent and compelling narrative but also in delving into the depths of personal experiences, anecdotes, and universal truths that resonate with the overarching message. The difficulty is magnified by the need to strike a delicate balance between inspiration and practicality, avoiding clichГ©s while maintaining a sense of relatability. The initial hurdle is conceptualizing a unique angle that sets the essay apart from the plethora of existing writings on the subject. Crafting an introduction that captivates the reader's attention and sets the tone for the entire essay poses its own set of challenges. Balancing the exploration of the abstract concept of hard work with concrete examples and evidence demands a nuanced approach to prevent the narrative from becoming overly didactic or overly personal. The body of the essay requires a meticulous organization of ideas, ensuring a logical flow that sustains the reader's interest. Integrating personal anecdotes or experiences, if applicable, adds depth to the narrative but also requires a careful selection process to maintain relevance and coherence. Each paragraph should seamlessly transition to the next, creating a cohesive tapestry of arguments and supporting evidence. Moreover, finding the right words to inspire without sounding preachy or overly optimistic is a fine line to tread. The language must be persuasive, motivating the reader to believe in the merits of hard work while avoiding the pitfall of oversimplification. Crafting a compelling conclusion that leaves a lasting impression further contributes to the complexity of the task. In essence, writing an essay on the topic "Hard Work Pays Off" demands not only a mastery of language but also a profound understanding of the subject matter. • 2. The International Monetary Fund ( Imf ) In the last chapter we looked at how incompetent and politically driven economic policy making drove Europe into prolonged recession and high unemployment. The financial crises and fear of a meltdown slowed world economic growth considerably. In October 2010, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projected 4.6 percent growth for the global economy in 2013; it ended up being just 3 percent. This difference may not seem like much, but in terms of lost output it is more than $800 billion, and it is not only in the rich countries. This meant that tens of millions of people worldwide were pushed into poverty and unemployment, including in developing countries despite the fact that the big policy mistakes were being made in Europe. To most of the people who write about these issues, and most of the media, there was not much that could have been done differently, that would have assured a speedy and robust recovery. But they are wrong. One of the more common justifications for the slow recovery and prolonged unemployment that has followed the Great Recession to varying degrees in both the United States and Europe is that this is an inevitable result of recessions brought about by financial crises. This argument seems to have been given added weight by economists Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff. While there is some debate over whether recessions caused by financial crises really do have more prolonged recovery periods, such a historical relationship if it exists
  • 3. Animal Emotions Essay Animal Emotions Do animals feel joy, love, fear, anguish or despair? What ere emotions, and perhaps more importantly, how do scientists prove animals are capable of emotion? Sea lion mothers have often been seen wailing painfully and squealing eerily as they watch their babies being eaten by killer whales. Buffaloes have also been observed sliding playfully across ice, excitedly screaming Gwaaa. Emotions are defined broadly as psychological phenomena that help in behavioral management and control. This is a challenging question to researchers who are trying to determine the answer to this question. Through current research by close observation combined with neurobiological research, evidence that animals exhibit fear, joy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However many skeptics argue that this is not enough evidence to determine whether animals have emotions or if they are just exhibiting primary instincts. Nevertheless many researchers studying animal emotions believe that humans are not the only animals to experience emotion. In 1988 at the University of Zurich, Eduard Stammbach set up an experiment with long tailed macaque monkeys to determine if they were able to rein aggressive behavior and act cooperatively. Subgroups of monkeys were created, and the lowest ranking monkey was taught to press a set of levers in a specific sequence that caused a machine to deliver popcorn. The high ranking monkeys noticed the low ranking monkeys unique skills. The high ranking monkeys soon began grabbing all the popcorn. Before long the low ranking monkeys stopped operating the machine. This did not last long because the higher ranking monkeys began to change their behavior. The higher ranking monkeys began to approach the lower ranking monkeys more peacefully, and allowed the lower ranking monkeys a share of the popcorn. Furthermore some higher ranking monkeys began to groom the lower monkeys even when the machine was inoperative. Another experiment by psychologist Robert Miller and his colleagues was designed to see if a monkey was able to interpret another monkey s facial expression. The researchers trained rhesus monkeys to pull a lever to avoid getting shocked after a
  • 4. Bharki Kher Six Women Essay Constructed Views of the Female Body Bharki Kher created the cast of Six Women from 2013 2015 using plasters of paris, wood, and metal. A cast is a process in which a liquid is poured into a mold and allowed to set into the desired shape, then broken out of the mold. They are life sized sculptures of realistic female forms, smooth and white and almost easily overlooked by how simplistic they are. When first looking over this artwork I did not know what to think about it, but then I considered the fact that these depictions of human aging bodies were constructed, and not by machine, but by human. Much like the topic discussed in our lectures surrounding humanism, Kher s constructed the female aging body to depict the culturally constructed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In conventional western discourses on sexuality the male is taken as active and the female as passive, and in Kher s plaster construction of seated women she conveys the constructed passivity of real women who are actually agents in their own life and culture although they are subjected to the oppression of patriarchy. The artwork of Six Women by Bharki Kher is a multiple cast art piece that was made from 2013 2015. It is a composition of six nude female figures made of white plaster, metal, and paris. They are simplistic life sized forms, uncolored, giving them an almost unfinished air about them. Like a bare plaster wall you see in new houses. The bodies show aging female figures, with saggy boobs and stomach rolls in seated positions. Think about the women you see in media today; thin and flawless with perky boobs, photoshopped to ideal expectations, gracing the covers of magazines and commercials we see daily. When first looking at these women I could not find meaning in the work, but after careful thought I realized the point Kher was trying to get across, these are realistic female bodies. They contrast the idea of women s bodies we are presented with in society with actual casts of human bodies, flawed, aging but still

All I can remember worrying about is if I ll ever finish the last level of Super Mario Bros on the Wii, but now I am in high school trying to be the best I can be by planning my future in the the best way possible. The career I chose a while back in middle school was cosmetology. I remember when I was getting ready for school one morning, and doing my daily routine. • 6. Impact Of Joseph Needham On The Historiography Of Chinese... This paper examines Joseph Needham s impact on the historiography of Chinese Science and Technology (S T), arguing that his great achievements were marred by an East/West comparative approach, and that subsequent historians have only partly overcome these restrictions. His multi volume Science and Civilization in China(1954 ongoing) single handedly thrust China into the Western dominated historiography. Organized along the disciplinary lines of modern science, Needham sought to document every scientific concept and technology invented in China, which he saw as the origin of most knowledge before Europe s Scientific Revolution. Bringing forth thousands of unknown primary and ignored secondary documents, he created a portrait of imperial China as a stable and inventive civilization, morally superior the later Western empires. Until the sixteenth century, he demonstrated, the flow of knowledge and technology had mainly gone from East to West. The European Enlightenment, Scientific Revolution and Industrial Revolution all stood on the shoulders of Chinese contributions. It was time, Needham argued, to recognize that the West did not have a monopoly on science: Surely it would be better to give more attention to the history and values of these non European civilization, in actual fact no less exalted and inspiring than our own. Then let us give up that intellectual pride which boasts that we are the people, and that wisdom was born with us . Let us take pride enough in the undeniable historical fact that modern science was born in Europe

INTRODUCTION 1.1INTRODUCTION Renewable power generation can help countries meet their sustainable development goals through provision of access to clean, secure, reliable and affordable energy. Renewable energy has gone mainstream, accounting for the majority of capacity additions in power generation today. Tens of gigawatts of wind, hydropower and solar photovoltaic capacity are installed worldwide every year in a renewable energy market that is worth more than a hundred billion USD annually. Other renewable power technology markets are also emerging. • 9. Persuasive Essay On Dental Care We all have 32 teeth in our mouth and they are indispensable. The tooth, in itself, consists of two parts: the root buried in the bone and the crown that is in the oral cavity. In addition, the cost of a quality brush is now quite low compared to the many benefits. Dental care can help in many cases: to restore a devitalized tooth, to cover and support a tooth that has a large filling when there is not much left healthy material, to protect a weakened tooth, to cover a dental implant it is fixed with cement or is glued, to restore a broken cracked or very worn tooth and to cover a poorly formed or discolored tooth. Dental care is usually reimbursed by insurance. The gum is the part of the oral mucosa that covers the maxillary bone and the mandible at the level of the tooth implantation area. First of all, let s give you a little reminder of what dental care is and why it is needed. Remember, many dental practices also offer periodontal dentistry, which is gum care. Regular brushing of the teeth allows removal of plaque. Today, the brush does almost everything alone. The purpose of these devices is to eliminate food residues and dental plaque in the most inaccessible areas of the mouth. Different instruments allow to get rid of tartar. That s why dentists today almost unanimously recommend the use of the electric toothbrush. Its micro pulsations and rotational movements are the enemy of tartar. The tartar is then taken off. It is therefore an effective preventive weapon

Evaluating Rasmussen s Policies Of Academic Integrity When reviewing Rasmussen s policies of academic integrity, the first very important step is to ensure that each student is informed as well as equipped to take on the assignments that are asked of them. As the instructor, it is important to continually make sure expectations are placed before the students in a clear, understandable, and attainable manner. Additionally, that resources are made available to help them meet these expectations. The initial gut reaction to the quality of Bridget s assignments would be of shock and slightly insulted. Considering her performance previously in class, this action from Bridget I would assume would have been taken out of desperation. What is believed could possibly account for her action are several situations. These situations could include, but not limited to, lack of time management, lack of understanding, fear of the grade that she may ultimately receive in the class with the previous mediocre quality, also simply not wanting to do the work. Additionally, there could have been a family situation that resulted in Bridget not be able to complete the work. For these reasons continually interaction with the students is very important. As the adjunct, through interaction with this student it will be easier to determine the intention of Bridget. Considering that it stats in the Rasmussen SOP Do NOT communicate to the student that they have been accused of an Academic Integrity Violation , there will be limited to no communication with

The Terracotta Army is an underground army with 8,000 soldiers and 100 horses made out of clay. The warriors was very appealing to me, because there are thousands of life size warriors and it is amazing how each warrior face and expression differ from one another. The soldiers are utilitarian because they were made to protect Shi Huangdi throughout eternity. The process of making the soldiers involved 1,000 skillful potters, who molded and carved the clay. The legs, torsos, fingers, arms and heads of the soldiers were molded and then carved into the figures. After the clay was fired, the warriors were painted

When I explain my adventurous moment to friends, I never forget the scenarios that happen between 2010 and 2012. Fortunately, I visited two different cities in two different States during this time doing the same activity, carrying out the same fun experience from an internship, but had different results and likes. Initially, in the summer of 2010 I visit Folly Beach, and then summer 2011 was Pensacola Beach, and finally was Folly Beach again during summer 2012. Not only do both beaches clinch personal memories in my head, but both areas have something in common to pull your interest, as well as they differ such that you can be able to choose where to spend a short vacation. Fortunately, it was a sales internship, a program with Varsity Company International during which we ll sell educational books during the summer to make some money, and at the end of the summer the sales manager will choose one place where all participants will go to celebrate success. Confidently, I became part of the program in 2010 and the memory wasn t impressive. Unfortunately, 2010 memory wasn t the best due to the fact that Ruth Angelina was the closest friend I met during the program; I didn t generate enough income to celebrate success and I was left in the cold at Folly Beach by Ruth. Courageously, I went back in 2011 and the memory wasn t the best either. Following the 12 week program, I was sick

The populist movement was for a chance of political, social, and economical equality within American society. Strongly appealing to the farmers and industrial workers, the populists tried to bring the people back in power, rather than the money that was controlling civilization. This movement was very popular in the 1800s because it was trying to gain the rights back of the working class because of the rise in prices of crops and how the West was over producing food, which caused them to be transport their food more, however, the railroads were charging high prices to ship.Three points to give a better understanding... There was two parties, the Democrats who were the south and farmers, and the Republicans who were the north and wealthy business. A plan was created to protect the farmer from downturns in agricultural prices. Under this plan farmers could hold crops off the market when prices were low and then receive loans from the government protected by crops in storage. To gain support from industrial workers, the platform also created an eight hour workday, pensions, and the restriction of immigration. This strategic political goal of the Populist Party was to displace the Democratic Party by making an alliance between farmers and industrial workers. The Populists, also tried to fix the social conflict between Southern blacks and whites, arguing that shared economic interests were more important than racial differences. The next important wave of populist reformism emerged in the 1890s. Various regional farm groups, known as Farmers Alliances, took root and grew rapidly. These included the Southern Alliance and the Agricultural Wheel in the south, and the Northwestern Alliance in northern regions. The Alliance also captured eight southern legislatures. In the West Alliance candidates dominated elections in Kansas and Nebraska and secured important power bases in the legislatures of Minnesota and South

Behavior disorder is defined as Any of various forms of behavior that are considered inappropriate by members of the social group to which an individual belongs. (The American Heritage Stedman s Medical Dictionary, 2015) Due to its broad definition, methods of identification, diagnosis, and treatments are varied and controversial. After my son was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in November of 2012, I recognized a stigma within the community surrounding behavior disorders that made it difficult to find the appropriate support for my son and my family. Behavior disorders vary in symptoms and name, and can be divided into several classifications, including anxiety disorders, disruptive behavior disorders, emotional disorders, dissociative disorders, and pervasive developmental disorders. In addition to Sensory Processing Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Bipolar Disorder and Autism fall under the behavior umbrella. Like many other mental illnesses, direct causes of these disorders are hard to pinpoint. Although the exact cause of most mental illnesses is not known, it is becoming clear through research that many of these conditions are caused by a combination of biological, psychological and

Literary Analysis Of Maya Angelou s Phenomenal Woman The poem Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou, was voiced by Maya Angelou herself, and the audience hearing that she was trying to reach was the pretty women in the world who have a definition of flawless that Maya does not agree with. She wanted her audience to know that while they may be beautiful, that she is beautiful and flawless by her own terms and that being flawless does not only mean being small and looking like the models in the magazines. One could argue that her audience is all the women in the world who are not small. She is also reaching out to women who have some of the same characteristics that she has because they are relatable. Men are also her audience as she goes on to explain why men find her attractive, this is also a device used to show the audience that many different cases of women can be viewed as attractive. Finally, in the piece written by Rini, I can understand her points and she clearly states her audience while closing her point by asking, ...does continuing to apply the name of such a person express our values, rather than the values of a gone generation? • 19. Essay About My First Job As Sean Maher once said, Starting a new job is always scary, it s like the first day of school. In other words, starting something new is always terrifying. We get so used to being in our comfort zone that when something changes, we start to question all of it. One of the first steps to becoming an adult that gets people out of their comfort zone is getting their first job. People don t know where to start or what they will enjoy, but they just know it needs to be done. My challenge was applying for my first job and realizing it was time to start becoming an adult. It was just another typical Wednesday afternoon; I was procrastinating on doing homework like usual. This time my thoughts lead to needing a job. I realized I need to have my own... I instantly was filled with excitement. The next day came and I filled out all the paperwork and learned all the rules about hosting and working at Mimi s Cafe. As time went on everything that seemed to be getting easier. The menu items became so simple and easy to explain to the guest. I never had to think twice about the tasks that seem difficult in the beginning like table numbers and rotation. Having my first job help me mature in a large amount of ways. We are very close to one another, and she has been with my dad since I was 4. I would consider her my mom not my step mom. Since she lives 4 hours away, I was unable to meet with her in person for the interview so a phone call was necessary. She s a very outgoing person, who is great at making conversation and telling stories. Even though it would have been more ideal to meet in person to conduct the interview, the phone call still felt natural and helpful. A few times over the course of the interview it was hard to hear what she had said. I did not want to interrupt her, so I missed a few details. Overall, it went very well, and it lasted the perfect amount of time. Since I am her daughter and already know key characteristics about her life, she felt comfortable sharing with me. Even when talking about her ex husband, she did not hold back. To begin, Christine Howell was born January 12th 1958 in Williamsport, PA. The Susquehanna River flows through Williamsport, and Williamsport is a very manufacturing and industry based place. It was the lumbering capital of world in the 1800s. As a result, there are a lot of beautiful homes of all styles. She grew up in a beautiful 6 bedroom Victorian home that had 10 feet ceilings, a huge staircase, and pocket doors. She is the 2nd oldest with 4 sisters and 1 brother. She described her home life as wonderful and traditional. Her dad was the breadwinner of the
  • 21. Story Of An Hour Analysis The Story of an Hour by Kate Choplin is only one thousand words long; yet there is strong character development throughout. It also has seemingly strong undertones of social issues, such as independence as a woman in the 1800s. Many of those in the literary field argue whether Choplin s intention was to have underlaying tones of positivity and feminism, or if it is a story about irony told through a woman named Louise Mallard, a woman with heart troubles who dies of happiness when she finds out that her husband is in fact still alive. Lawrence I. Berkove argues the latter with refuting arguments and a close analysis of the text with evidence. Berkove starts his argumentoff by refuting other arguments on the topic of this short story. He references the standard for the interpretation of the story by Toth and Seyersted; that the story of Louise Mallard is an extreme example of the theme of self assertion [and] feminist bent whereas he believes Louise is an immature egotist and a victim of her own extreme self assertion. He elaborates on his refutation by stating these positions are all read into the story from non textual assumptions. Since the narrator is not first person it is third person omniscient we cannot assume that the narrator is a reliable narrator. He backs up this argument by showing that the narrator is contradicted by other textual evidence, as well as citing paragraphs 12, 13, and 14. Within these paragraphs, the narrator tries to take the audience into Louise s mind, however...there is no textual evidence of also ascribing them to the narrator. Lousie thinks that she wants to live for herself instead of for her husband and that can be interpreted as wanting to be an independent woman. However, Berkove explains that this is not the case and her justifications are extravagant, unrealistic statements and that she does not love her husband for the original reasons she married him anymore. Berkove also furthers his argument that Louise essentially killed herself, by analyzing the text itself and its possible connotations. Since the story begins with the line Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, although vague, it gives the reader inference to base her actions on

In the poem Ulysses by Lord Alfred Tennyson, the speaker Ulysses argues for his mariners to come back out to sea. Karen Prior s article How Reading Makes Us More Human argues how reading makes one more human. On the other hand, Tennyson makes his argument through Ulysses, as he talks to his mariners while Prior makes her argument to teachers of higher of education. While Tennyson and Prior both use rhetorical situations to persuade their audiences, Prior connects to her audience better by citing compelling and exhaustive research, eliciting sympathy from her audience through her narrative voice, and establishing her credibility by using personal examples and research. Prior s uses captivating evidence in her article in order to persuade the audience that reading makes one more human. For example, Prior takes research from psychologists from York University and University of Toronto which states [people] who read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people, empathize with them and view the world from their perspective (para. 2). With the use of notable research, the reader starts to question if reading does make one more human. In today s society males are told that they are supposed to be aggressive, forceful, masculine, and dominant. Conversely, females are taught to be passive, nurturing, supportive and caring. One possible reason this is so is because men are usually the head of the household, while woman typically care for the children more. These norms are taught from birth via gender socialization. We contribute to more unstable political environments (Crimm, 2007, p.615) and more refugees that we increasingly refuse to help when we take away aid that would countries meet the needs of their citizens. The Mexico City Policy affects the rate and prevalence of HIV/AIDS in a community (AIDS and abortion policy, 2003). While HIV/AIDS spreads throughout communities, women are disproportionately burdened with the disease (Gruskin, Roseman, and Ferguson, p.72, 2007). If a family loses a family member due to inadequate health care, an unsafe abortion, it can affect the family s financial stability if she was a breadwinner, if there is no one else to care for children, and/or if the family is burdened with health care or funeral costs (Harman, 2016, p.526). If the lack of family planning options, such as birth control, results in more children than a family can support, not only do their finances suffer, but their overall socio economic status, including nutrition, education, and health declines (Guttmacher, 2012). It has been shown that there is a positive correlation between family planning and a woman s level of schooling and lower fertility rates (Joshi Schultz, 2013, p.161). Hypotheses for the decline in fertility rates are both that higher educated women may have more skills to assess and seek out contraception, as well as the ability to choose employment over having children (Joshi Schultz, 2013, p.161). They also may simply be unable to attend school pregnant or must drop out to care for their children (HIV Prevalence, 2010,

Personal Narrative-Atlantic Way The days leading up to the fifth of August had been characteristically Irish, complete with clouds in Connemara, a daylong drizzle in Dingle, and forty mile per hour winds at the Cliffs of Moher (which, under said conditions, were more deserving of their Princess Bride alias, the Cliffs of Insanity). In Ireland, the island nation that gifts its western seaboard with 225 days of rain each year, fickle weather is a fact of life. But now, for eight hours, my family needed the Wild Atlantic Way to tame itself perhaps, for just one day, the Mild Atlantic Way could suffice? To the left of me, my mom widened her eyes, a lifelong fear of heights flashing across her face. The captain didn t need to turn around to know what was happening. From the wheelhouse, he simply laughed. That s Little Skellig over there. We ve still got a ways to go. From a distance, Little Skellig could almost be mistaken for a snow capped mountain. Up close, however, the source of the island s feathery white dusting grows obvious. One of the largest bird colonies in the world, Little Skellig is an annual breeding ground for more than 20,000 northern gannets. By no means, however, should you allow the island s name to trick you. Towering over our boat at a height of 440 feet, Little Skellig is far from little. In Gaelic, the word Sceillic means a particularly steep rock. Head craned back as we cruised past the first Skellig, etymology didn t elude me for a

  • 45. The Connecticut River, The Common Sewer Overflow And Sewer... Introduction In this research paper I will be talking about the Connecticut River, the common sewer overflow and sewer discharge that goes into the river, I will be focusing on the pollutants that are in the CT river, I will also focus on the high density towns and the affect it has on them, then I will talk about the ecological impacts and economical aspects. The Connecticut River is the longest river in the New England region, it spans through five states Maine (Small portions), Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut, discharging into the Long island sound. The river serves more than two million people throughout New England. The main issue with the river is the untreated storm water and sewer waste that is being discharged into it which causes many harmful effects not only to the many different species that call the CT River its home, but to the people that live around the CT River. Combined sewer overflows (CSOs), the discharging of combined sewer systems directly into surface waters upon capacity overload, are a large source of pollution of U.S. waterways. A report from the Environment and Connecticut Research and policy center has said that industrial facilities have discharged 224,029 pounds of toxic waste into the Connecticut waterways in the year of 2012. There are many government agencies such as the EPA and committees like the Connecticut River Cleanup Committee that are raising funds and awareness in order to help clean up the Connecticut River

These definitions throw light into the different perspectives of poverty and discuss various measurements in assessing poverty especially in developing countries. The third
