History And Memory Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "History and Memory" poses a multifaceted challenge that
extends beyond the mere act of writing. The complexity arises from the intricate interplay
between historical events and the subjective nature of human memory. Juxtaposing the factual
accuracy of historical records with the selective and sometimes biased nature of individual and
collective memories demands a nuanced approach.
Navigating through the vast expanse of historical data requires meticulous research, as the essay
must draw upon credible sources to construct a solid foundation. However, the endeavor doesn't
end there; one must tread carefully when interpreting historical events to avoid unintentional bias
or distortion. Striking a balance between presenting an accurate historical account and
acknowledging the influence of personal and cultural memories is a delicate task.
Furthermore, the essay must delve into the intricate relationship between history and memory,
exploring how the two intersect and shape our understanding of the past. Addressing the
challenges of memory, such as its susceptibility to distortion and the impact of cultural
influences, adds another layer of complexity to the writing process.
Articulating these complexities in a coherent and engaging manner requires a high level of
analytical thinking and a deep understanding of the nuances inherent in the topic. Crafting a
compelling narrative that weaves together historical facts and the subjective nature of memory
demands skillful writing and thoughtful reflection.
In conclusion, undertaking an essay on "History and Memory" is no easy feat. It demands
meticulous research, careful interpretation of historical events, and a nuanced exploration of the
complex interplay between factual accuracy and subjective memory. The writer must navigate
through the challenges of presenting an unbiased account while acknowledging the inherent
biases and distortions in human recollection. Successfully addressing these challenges requires
both analytical prowess and skillful expression.

Compare And Contrast Low Fat Vs Low Carb Diet
6 Reasons why a Low Carb Diet is Better than Low Fat
Our bodies need something to create the energy to maintain our bodily functions and
brain health. For many years the health organizations all over the world have been
advocating a diet with higher carbs and protein as being best for the production of
this energy. Fat has been frowned upon. Unfortunately, carbohydrates and not fats are
the reason so many people are overweight. This causes major health problems.
Some of the reasons why a low carb diet is better for you than a low fat diet
1. Weight Loss
в–Є Increased weight loss, faster!
в–Є Low carb dieting gives 3 times better weight loss than the low fat (low calories)
way of dieting.
в–Є Ketosis (due to low carb eating occurs due to less glucose in the body) causes

Energy Levels
в–Є If you are eating a low carb diet ( with higher fat), and perhaps go for longer
periods of time without eating, you will not feel sluggish or without energy at all.
в–Є Your energy will come from the stored fat, which is good news for your overall
health and weight. A low fat diet can result in vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Fat is
needed for some vitamins to be absorbed.
6. Low Carb diets and Glycemic Control
Less carbs equals less glucose for diabetics. This results in lower blood sugar levels
and less need for insulin. Low carb diets can cure type II diabetes. In fact a low
carb diet can in many instances be a cure for some of the most serious diseases in
the world. Without a reduction in calories, the low fat diet doesn t have any benefits,
and the weight loss on a low fat plan is largely due to a reduction in muscle.
Make a Low Carb High Fat Diet your Nutritional Therapy
Low carbs versus low fats cannot be seen as a debate any more. When you see the
overall improvements in an individuals health, you know that a low carb, high fat
diet is the answer to the problem we face with the declining health of our entire

The Crystal Palace And The Maison De Verre
The Crystal Palace, located in London, England, was constructed in 1851 by Joseph
Paxton. Having been the world s first structure to be built entirely out of glass, it has
inspired and influenced many glass frame construction throughout the years. It held
many exhibitions during its lifetime and hosted thousands of people from around the
world. Unfortunately, the great Crystal Palace had a major design flaw that inevitable
caused its great destruction: flammable wood flooring and glassframe work. The
Palace caught fire and a sunny day in November 1936 and was never rebuilt. One of
the many buildings that were influenced by the Crystal Palacewas the Masison de
Verre in Paris, France. The Maison de Verre was building in 1932 for a rich doctor
who used the home as both a living space and his office. The designer had to design
the space in such a way that accommodated the doctor s needs. For the purpose of
this paper, I will be comparing the structure of both the Crystal Palace and the
Maison de Verre. Joseph Paxtonwas born in August 1803 in London England and
died June of 1865. Paxton s educational background was in architectural gardening.
He was a Member of Parliament and was contracted to design a lot of green houses
for the government. For Joseph, the Crystal Palace was his greatest master piece. He
wanted the exhibit space to be grand, modern and something that has never been
made in the Victorian Era. His approach was to design the building with new and
Pros And Cons Of Roman Government
The Roman government is very unique compared to other societies. The majority
of societies were either controlled by monarchy or democracy, however the Romans
found a way to have both. The Roman empire had both a senate and an emperor.
The Senate was Democracy which was made up by electing officials who although
made laws couldn t finalize the law without approval from emperor. The Emperor
made up the Monarchy part having the final say in all important objectives. The
Roman Emperor was very much like our modern day president. He oversaw the
senate often conducting the meetings. Even though he conducted the Senate, he
actually approved only what he deemed worth for finalization. Some of the most
famous leaders in history such as Julius Ceasar, Augsustus Ceasar, and Nero were
Emperors of Rome. The Senate and the Roman People (SPQR, or Senatus
Populusque Romanus), described the difference in class between the Senate and
ordinary people. The Roman People were all citizens who were not members of the
Senate or the emperor. Power was vested in the Roman People, through the

All senators would wear a senatorial ring (originally made of iron, but later gold))
and a tunica clava, a white tunic with a broad purple stripe five inches wide (latus

non voting senator) wore a white toga virilis (also called a toga pura) without
decoration. A senator who had held a curule magistracy, and thus the right to speak
and vote was entitled to wear the toga praetexta, a white toga with a broad purple
border. Additionally, the Senate, both Patricians and Equestrian Plebes, were largely
responsible for seating the 50 to 75 man criminal juries, as well as acting as the

How Did Queen Elizabeth Affect Theatre
Queen Elizabeth I s Rule Affects Theatre
In an era of cock fighting and public executions, theater was a well enjoyed event in
Elizabethan social life. During her 45 year reign, gaining the throne in 1558,
Queen Elizabeth I gave a women a voice in literature. Her gender had no threat to
the stability and glory of nation. Her reign was even considered The Golden Age in
which saw the birth of Shakespeare;the rise of literature. Four hundred years post
Queen Elizabeth I s death she was still one of the most beloved and admired
monarchs of all time. She became a legend for her phenomenal abilities and
achievements.
Elizabeth Tudor was cunning, smart and kind. The daughter of Henry VIII and his
second wife Anne Boleyn on September 7,1533 in Greenwich, England. She was
only but the age of two when her mother was accused of adultery and conspiracy
then beheaded by orders of her father. Though she wasn t the only child of her
parents, she was the only surviving child of Henry and Anne therefore, since her
father did not have a male heir, Elizabeth was considered an illegitimate princess as
well as her half sister Mary. Despite several attempts to remove her from the family

Unlike the commoners in the Globe. If they got they slightest bit hungry or

Essay about Forever Young in the Poem Old Man Dreams
by...
In the poem, The Old Man Dreams by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Holmes
demonstrated that an old man craved to be young again. Holmes supports his
message by writing the poem as an extended metaphor by comparing youth to old
age. At the end of the stanzas, he reveals that the old man didn t just want to be a
young boy again, but he also wanted to be a father and a husband, too. In conclusion,
one can understand that the theme of Holmes poem is to be forever young and to be
with his loved ones. Oliver Wendell Holmes used imagery, symbolism and rhyme
scheme to illustrate the character s desire to be young again. One can also believe
that the purpose of this poem was to display the hunger of youthfulness for which the
man lust for.This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The intention is to pull the reader in by showing how fun and bright youth is. He
used rainbow instead of black to appeal to the reader that being young is a pleasant
time. He also revealed in this quote that the old man wanted to be a husband and a
father again, too. This part in the poem foreshadows that the old man wants to be
young again because when he was younger, he had a wife and child. Therefore, one
can infer that the old man probably lost his loved ones, or maybe something
happened between them when he got older. Holmes also used imagery to describe
the angel in this poem. He used an angel because an angel symbolizes power and
greatness. Holmes did not use a genie because a genie would of tricked him or
messed up his wish; that is why he used something that represented purity like an
angel.Throughout this poem, Holmes also only used bright and appealing words to
bestow the love and desire the old man wanted for youth. However, when Holmes
was describing old age, he used dull and depressing words, so one could feel static
about old age and feel bias towards youth. On another note, Holmes did a great job
by expressing his overall theme with the use of imagery.
Holmes also used symbols to express his theme in this poem. For example, Tear out
life s Wisdom written page... (famouspoetsandpoems). Holmes was using life as a
symbol in this example. Throughout this poem, Holmes is not only just talking about
Margo Roth Spiegelman s Paper Towns

on the other hand, begins with the foundation of Margo and Quentin s relationship.
Back when Quentin and Margo were in primary school, they were friends ... Until
one day, when amidst their journeys, they discovered a deceased man sitting under a
tree. Margo was truly fascinated of the man, needing to explore his demise, yet
Quentin needed to leave and call for help quickly. After they cleared out and the
police had assumed control, Margo had really investigated it herself while Quentin
was at home. One night after, Margo went to Quentin s window and lets him know

The book closes with Margo and Quentin saying farewell and promising to stay in
contact.
Despite the fact that John Green s tone changes all through the book, his tone is
ordinarily idealistic and has a determination about it to stop the dull potential
outcomes of Margo s future. Quentin can discover inspiration regardless of the
possibility that now and again it would appear that Margo has conferred suicide.
Regardless, the circumstances, there is a happy comical inclination that John Green
composes all through the novel. The dialogue and relationship in the middle of
Quentin and his friends keeps the book light. Something as random as Radar s
guardians gathering black Santa s helps keep a carefree tone all through the book
despite the fact that it manages more profound and darker

Background
The educational context
The study focused on students taking a module entitled Psychological Perspectives
in Nursing. This module is a compulsory part of a preregistration diploma in the
nursing course and covers three semesters. A variety of features made the module
suitable for the present purpose. The module has a very large enrolment, it is mainly
delivered by lectures although students can seek one to one academic support, and it
is assessed summatively by essay format. Empirical evidence suggests that such an
educational context affects the quality of student learning and subsequent
performance. For example, large class size negatively affects student performance
(Raimondo et al. 1990, Fearnley 1995, Gibbs et al. 1997), student teacher
interactions and class discussions (Mahler et al. 1986, Raimondo et al. 1990). Also, a
lecture format retards the development of higher level cognitive skills, including deep
approaches to learning
The Positive And Negative Impacts Of The Theatrical...
With resounding consistency, every reference to The Theatrical Syndicate begins
with the same anecdotal tale: One day in 1896, six theatre businessmen met for lunch
at the Holland House Hotel. The gentlemen gathered that day where in a consensus
about a few things, but the greatest of which being the state of the American theatre
and its institutional need for centralization. (Mroczka) The aim of the following
discussion is to contextualize this organization within American theatre history while
illustrating the positive and negative impacts of The Theatrical Syndicate on the
theatre community. For much of the 19th century, theatre production hinged on
resident stock company and visiting star systems. The former was an English import
and signified the delineations between a permanent or touring company. Resident
companies had an arsenal of plays that would be performed nightly, on a rotating
basis, by actors selected on their ability to play interchangeable stock characters.
This practice was innovated mid century by the visiting star system. The resident
stock company was self sufficient in staging productions, but when big name actors
came into town, they would often make their way on the bill for local productions
as a way to draw crowds. (Encyclopedia Britannica) As a promotional method,
however, this system would prove too great a burden on operating costs. This would
serve as one of many reasons American theatre would shortly hereafter transition into

Argumentative Essay On Israel Conflict
On Friday night, the University of Washington played host to three of today s greatest
historians concerning the Israel/Palestine issue. Professor Anita Shapira, known for
her contextual history of Israel ignited the room with her powerful comments about
the circumstances for Arab removal from Israeli lands. Professor James Gelvin
tiptoed on several touchy subjects, reiterating his concentration with causality history,
nevertheless his historical background gave insight to nationalistic movements both
groups have. The third historian, Professor Ilan Pappe concentrated the bulk of his
talk on explaining the movement of Palestinian refugees while advocating for the
acknowledgement of Israeli brutality in some Arab villages. Naturally, as it was the
first time all three sides had come head to head, the debate got heated. This was
especially true when comparing ideas of what the occupied territory should be
described as. History of Modern Israel/Palestine student Erika Arias was able to
mediate the debate, defuse tensions and at times draw laughs from the audience. Here
is what the historians at the UW Israel/Palestine Symposium had to say:
Arias: It s nice to finally to put three of the greatest minds concerning the Israel

Applying John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism Theory
In July 2011, activists shut down a San Francisco subway station as a way of
protesting the death of a man shot by a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police
officer. This case was totally against the utilitarianism s ethical. The principal of
utilitarianism state that a person should perform an action that will produce the most
benefit to each person or the most happiness to the greatest number of people.
Happiness in this term is defined as something that is fun but not to be a moral action.
Quinton (1973), for instance, assume an individual who supports utilitarianismas
those who agree that the goodness of an action or behavior is determined by the
outcome of the action. Moreover, utilitarianism is also a basic theory of John Stuart
Mill (1806 1873) which describes the concept of utilitarianism as a principle of utility
or happiness. Most to emphasize that something is right or good conduct in

Deontological ethics or deontology is the normative ethical position that judges the
morality of an action based on the action s adherence to a rule or rules. It is
sometimes described as duty or obligation or rule based ethics, because rules bind
you to your duty (Wikipedia). This theory is depending only on the action not
included the outcome of the action. The reason for me not to support this theory
because as by applying this theory to the protesters, we can see that this theory just
evaluates the action of the protesters, not the effect of having protest by the
protesters. By this theory, the actions of the protesters are considered to be a good
and a morality action as the activist only goal was to uphold the justice. But, what I
disagree about this Kant theory is although the protestors had a good goal, but if the
outcome of this case is worse, how can it be a good and a morality action? Thus, I
think this theory not working when applying it to the

I m highly interested in proposing ways to create an artistic program for
underprivileged youth. After coming across young children from low income during
my media project in Romania, it has inspired me to implement a program to engage
youth with the arts. Some students are often gifted with the opportunity to pursue
their artistic expression; I want to help children who don t have the same equity to

experience with arts in high school, I want to provide a program that gives the same

The Leading Cause Of Acquired Disability On The
Patients...
1. Introduction to Intervention
Strokes are known as the leading cause of acquired disability in adults where
between 20 30% are left unable to walk, and leaving those who are able to walk,
with a moderate to severe walking disability (Maguire et al., 2012). This disability
results in a huge socioeconomic impact on the patients and their families lives. In
order to improve their quality of life, an improvement in balance is the important first
step in which is crucial to enable more independent movement, for example walking.
A stroke can be brought on by many different factors like age, gender and family
history all of which one cannot control. Others are lifestyle factors like high blood
pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity or being over weight, poor diet, lack of
exercise and drinking too much alcohol (stroke foundation Australia). Currently there
is no universally accepted treatment (Ward, 2005).
There is evidence to suggest that improved motor recovery occurs when the brain
uses the original neural system to control the movement as this is shown to represent
true recovery. Whereas, if new networks were to form in the unaffected hemisphere
of the brain, motor recovery will be reduced. As a result of using these new networks,
fine motor control is lost and employment of compensatory movement strategies are
associated with a poorer functional outcome (Nudo, 2007). The recovery of motor
skills following a stroke, like walking, relies on the brain s ability
The Benefits Of Ants
Ants since the historic time does all the works like human beings. The ants are from
the
unsocial insects from the family of FORMICIDAE along with related wasps and
bees. Ants are
in nature with human beings where they hunt, rear, collect food, and even attack in
need. They
have ways to communicate with the others through PHEROMONES, TOUCH AND

The ants stay together in a system of colony where the society is divided among their

The ants typically considered as nuisance and annoying to human beings, is
important for the human beings or the eco system we live in. Ants are beneficial to the
environment in number of ways.
1. Ants DECOMPOSE the dead organic matter from our environment. As they feed
on the dead
decaying animal remains.
2. The ants carry SEED on their back from the garden, which results in seed
protection and fewer
weeds in the garden to grow out. Seeds are considered as an source of protein for the
ants.
3. Ants like PREDATING on insects like flies, termites, caterpillars, fleas.
4. The ants also help in SOIL AERATION. The nest building activity of the ants help
in soil

5. Some plants provide with NECTAR to the ants, and the ants in return help the plant
by feeding
on dead decaying matters or herbivores.
Ants as an insect are also used as a subject of entairtenment. There are songs

Cancer is a global health problem that affects millions of people across the globe,
especially in developing nations. The increase in cases of cancer is likely to
increase the global burden of disease by a great percentage. Particularly,
reproductive cancers such as cervical and prostate cancers are among the top causes
of cancerrelated morbidity and mortality. Although prostate cancerranks close to the
tenth position among cancer related deaths, it is the second most common form of
cancer among men. Consequently, men diagnosed with this disease have diverse
and severe experiences depending on the stage of cancer and the associated pain.

A Report On Flight Training
Abstract
Flight Training Devices or commonly known as simulators, are frequently used in
military aviator training and is an important training tool for safely teaching flying
skills in a controlled environment that is normally too dangerous, or costly to acquire
through the use of an actual aircraft. The U.S. Air Force and Army typically use
simulators to safely train new Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV) operators on critical
tasks performed for proficiency and certification without the use of costly flyable
aviation resources. Research has discovered there is a lack of conventional
standardized training for any of the armed services, but an inter service roadmap is
planned for combining future training programs. The researcher will analyze multiple
military and civilian aeronautical based articles on the subjects of simulator use for
operator training including Army and Air Force future requirements for UAVs, and
applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. Findings will be clear
regarding the need for cost saving initiatives and standardized UAV training,
including the implications of new FAA regulations. Research will also delve into the
fact that inconsistent operator training is a problem for incorporating different types
of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) into the National Airspace (NAS). It is also
determined that future military training will be affected by FAA research and
findings on this subject. Finally, the results will reveal the need for
Mohandas Gandhi vs. Martin Luther King Jr.

Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. did great things in their life times.
But which one was more effective during his time? The answer to this question is
somewhat biased, usually depending on your race, geographical location, and if you
or someone you know has directly experienced the effects of the actions of these
men. An Indian would choose Mohandas Gandhi over Martin Luther King Jr. without
even thinking about it. African Americans are going to choose Martin Luther King

The petition was presented to the Assembly after only one month. This cause
became obvious that it wasn t only for the Indian s right to vote but for their
survival as a community in Natal. The majority of Indians had just stayed in South
Africa after their time as slaves on plantations or in mines ended. These men were
about to have to pay a tax of twenty five pounds, an amount they couldn t pay.
Gandhi appealed to the Viceroy of India, the Colonial Secretary in London, and to
Naoroji, the Indian member of Parliament (Coolidge 44). He registered as an
advocate before Natal s Supreme Court, wrote articles, gave speeches, and even
removed his turban while the court was in session. Though he could not win voting
privileges for immigrants from India, he did retain the power to vote for those
Indians already on the voting lists. Unfortunately, Gandhi s hard work did not abolish
the tax but he managed to get it reduced to three pounds, still only some could pay
this. More important than these two achievements was the Natal Indian Congress.
This was a permanent organization with an educational branch and it was available to
the poor. Its wide availability exposed the organization to the masses. After his
accomplishments in South Africa Gandhi returned to India. A pivotal moment in
India s struggle for independence came on March 12, 1930. This two hundred mile,

The Bunker
Soon after Marcus leaves, I begin to wander through the bunker. No one stops me
or questions what I m doing or where I m going. Though the whispers and glances
of respect are going to take some getting used to. It s a strange thing to have
everyone look at me with wonder and hope, instead of hatred. It s also really nice. I
can actually relax a little and not wonder if the person behind me is trying to killme.
I explore the main massive room of the bunker, finding a long steel hall. At the end,
a thick bolted door sits and it appears to be locked. The only reason to lock a door is
to hide something. To hide secrets. Marching down the hall, I swiftly reach the
bolted door, realizing it s not locked. It s actually slightly open. Curiosity pushes the
door open and I m greeted by a world of bright green.
I gasp in amazement at the beauty surrounding me. I gently close the door behind me
and begin to wander, still in awe. Dozens of different trees filled the wide room with
fresh fruit weighing down every branch. Planter box line the floor between the tree,
vegetables, fruits and wheat growing strong and ready to harvest. Solar lights line the
ceiling, making the room warm and bright. This explains where the bunker gets all
their food. It s a greenhouse, but even with all this, the plants shouldn t be doing this
good.

Gaius Cassius Longinus. Brutus and Cassius were the assassinators of Julius Caesar,
Marc Antony and Octavian were very close allies with Julius Caesarand Octavian
would become the heir to his throne after the assassination. Because of this, Marc

With the arrival of Republican admiral Gnaeus Domitus Ahenobarbus,
communications back to Italy were made very difficult because of the large fleet of
ships that he brought with him which blockaded the triumvirate. These fleets of the
Liberators did not wish to engage in a physical battle with the Triumvirate, but only
to block their communications with their supply base back in Italy. With this
swarming fleet they were able to outflank the Triumvirate and set up their own
defensive positions forcing Norbanus and Saxa to retreat from their positions moving
west giving the Liberators the upper hand at this spot. Brutus and Cassius were able
to gain position on the Via Egnatia on each side with this fleet. To the north and south
were impassable marshes and mountains. Brutus and Cassius then split their forces
each manning a North and South defensive position of the Via Egnatia. After arriving
to the scene, Marc Antony put his troops to the south while Octavian put his troops
to the north, preparing for battle with the Liberators. Marcus Junius Brutus was
always known in history as being too soft of a general. Although he had little
successful battle victories in Thrace and Lycia, he had always been judged as being
lacking in authority when it came to the generalship of his troops. Because of this,
Brutus was commonly referred to as a statesman than a military commander. The

The Effect Of Pyramids On Ancient Egyptian Life
Introduction
Pyramids, which were built over 4000 years ago, are impressive structures built by
ancient Egyptians. Building pyramids had to do with religion. Also, building them
had an effect on ancient Egyptians lives. We can learn many things about ancient
Egyptians from their pyramids. Pyramids, the result of Ancient Egyptians hard work,
were built as tombs for their rulers, and can help us learn about this ancient
civilization.
What Was the Purpose of a Pyramid? Pyramids served as tombs for the ancient
Egyptian pharaohs and queens. According to Ducksters.com, The pyramids were
built as burial places and monuments to the pharaohs. Within the pyramid were the

First of all, Egyptians were hard workers and they were devoted to their pharaohs.
According to Naomi Millburn, The construction of pyramids in ancient Egypt
affected many people s lives in their exhaustive construction. Ancient Egyptians
worked hard for their pharaohs. We can learn that they were devoted to their
pharaohs, and hard workers by looking at the pyramids. Pyramids also tell us that the
ancient Egyptians were skilled in architecture. According to History.com, Built during
a time when Egypt was one of the richest and most powerful civilizations in the
world, the pyramids, especially the Great pyramids of Giza are some of the most
magnificent man made structures in history. Their massive scale reflects the unique
role that the pharaoh, or king, played in ancient Egyptian society. Pyramids are
admired by people around the world. Also, it is still a mystery how they
constructed pyramids. (Naomi Millburn) Egyptians were dedicated to their religion,
and as stated before, pyramids were built as tombs for pharaohs/queens. According
to Ducksters.com, Deep inside the pyramid the pharaoh would be buried with all
sorts of items and treasure that he may need to survive in the afterlife. Afterlife was
a part of ancient Egyptian religion. Therefore Egyptians would work hard to build
pyramids and tombs for their pharaohs.
Conclusion
There was a big effect on ancient Egyptians from pyramids because it was exhausting
building them. However, pyramids help us learn that ancient Egyptians were hard
workers, devoted to their pharaohs, they were skilled in architecture, and ancient
Egyptians were dedicated to their religion. Ancient Egypt s pyramids have left a

The Effects Of Sex Addiction On The Failure Of The...
The authors of this article have chosen to do research on the topic of sex addiction in
response to the failure of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder V
to properly distinguish internet addictive disorder and hypersexual disorders.
Furthermore, they believe that clinicians who specialize in addictionand sexual
disorders to be inadequately prepared for cybersexual addictions and sexual
compulsivity. By presenting a historical perspective and literature review that
demands attention towards the reality of comorbidity, the authors presents an
effective case for the treatment and further classification of sex addictions.
In the first section, the authors set the stage by offering historical perspectives of
hypersexuality, from an 1812 case study of man requesting to be chemically
castrated for his overwhelming sexual desires, to Dr. von Krafft Ebbing of the late
19th century insisting that pathological sexuality is a psychiatric problem, to the
cautions of Levine in 2010 of the fine line between sexual deviance and sex
addiction. The authors proceed to explain the various means of evidence gathering
and reporting techniques, ranging from self report questionnaires to case studies, and
draw attention to several major attempts made towards a contemporary functional
framework through research based analysis of historical trends for sex addiction.
These include: Kinsey s Male Hypersexuality convenience sample of Americans in

What are the issues of memory and community at the heart of the Australian History

Attwood, Bain, Contesting frontiers: history, memory and narrative in a national
museum , reCollections: Journal of the National Museum of Australia, Vol. 1, No. 2,
2006, pp. 103 114.
This article provides information concerning: memories that society wants to
acknowledge and pass on to future generations; the manner in which those memories
are represented; the responsibility that society has to fully represent aspects of history
while also brining into questions the unwillingness to recognise and respect different
conceptions of history and how this can diminish the potential that museums have to
advance cross cultural understanding.
This article is especially useful in addressing the issues of memory at the heart of the
Australian history wars as it examines in detail the effect of the representation of
memories, how they are framed, and in which formats they are reported, upon how
they are received by an audience and by academia. The article addresses the factor
that the relevance and validity of memories can be seen as discredited by academia
because, in this case, they have not been sourced from written evidence by the party
presenting the memory and therefore decrease their value from an empirical
standpoint. The framing of a narrative is also especially important as in this article,
the name under which evidence is presented has become key not only to how it is
received but
I Am Malala
I Am Malala is a memoir by Malala Yousafzai that chronicles her experiences in
standing up for education in Pakistan. Malala spent her childhood advocating for girls
rights both in and out of the school system. Her distinguished father, Ziauddin,
encouraged her to take a stand and continue to attend school, even when the Taliban
decreed that girls were forbidden from getting an education. Malala writes, My
father used to say the people of Swat and the teachers would continue to educate
our children until the last room, the last teacher and the last student was alive. My
parents never once suggested I should withdraw from school, ever. Though we
loved school, we hadn t realized how important education was until the Taliban
tried to stop us (146). On Tuesday, October 9, 2012, Malala was traveling home
from school when a Talib boarded her bus and asked, Who is Malala (9)? The man
shot Malala in the head. After a miraculous recovery, Malala continued to fight for
education for girls around the world. By standing up for women s rights in Pakistan,
Malala inspires others to do the same in their communities. I am unlike Malala in
many ways. I live in a country where women and girls have the right to receive an
education. In the United States, women have much more freedom than Pakistani
women. In Pakistan, women and girls cannot leave their house without a male family
member. Communities often force young girls into arranged marriages. Malala

Essay On Barbara Strozzi
A woman of risk, controversy, perseverance, and ambition does not even begin to

social norm and caused those who pursued this career suffering, disadvantage, and
negative labels. However, as one of the top women composers and singers in the

As one can see, Strozzi worked hard to ensure that she left, a precise, and as

However, despite her social position, Barbara was able to distinguish herself from the

disappeared in history with no monument or testament, her dedication to print allows

Analysis Of The 1995 Chicago Heat Wave Essay
Durkheimian Analysis of the 1995 Chicago Heat Wave Emile Durkheim was a
French sociologist in the late 1800s and early 1900s who came up with the
concepts of social regulation and integration. These concepts have to do with the
state of societies and how they work. More specifically, social regulation is the
norms created by either formal laws or social pressure. The way people are
expected to live and perform their daily tasks or jobs are somewhat decided by
social regulation. In its most basic form, it s what is and isn t deemed acceptable by
societies standards. Social integration on the other hand is the extent to which the
group or society matters. This brings up the importance of the individual as opposed
to the importance of the society. Strength of social ties within the community are big
influences on how socially integrated a society is. These two concepts helped
Durkheim better form an understanding for things such as suicide rates. Once
understood, these concepts were applied by Durkheim to suicide rates and the
reasoning behind why they are the way they are. Before this though, Durkheim
checked through many other factors such as mental illness, ethnicity, and climate to
see what affected suicide rates. None of these factors correlated with the rate until he
tested religion. He realized that different religions had different suicide rates.
Methodists and Episcopalians had higher suicide rates while Southern Baptists had
lower rates. To find out why he applied
Point Of View In Delia Jones s Sweat
The character roles and point of view played a big role in this story. The point of
view in this story is third person omniscient. Third person omniscient is a method
of storytelling in which the narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of all of the
characters in the story. The narrator in Sweat is in smack in the middle of the hot,
sweaty action of the story. While she obviously knows central Florida locals and
their way of life, her voice is starkly different from that of the characters. This gives
us a mixture of clear, formal narration with colloquial dialogue that reads just like a
convo between real life people. We think it s nothing short of genius. If Sweat were
only written in formal language, it d be drier than Florida summer grass; if it were
pages of central Florida folk chatting with their thick slang, we d probably go crazy.

Similarities Between The Cake s Funeral And Their Eyes...

the town and well respected by many. Afterwards, she marries Tea Cake, a younger
man but also well respected by his fellow workers. While both of their funerals may

being somewhat fancy, upon a closer look Joe s funeralis an outreach of his being
controlling others, while Tea Cake s funeral is a memorial to him created by his
friends and family, which reveals how much better of a husband and friend Tea Cake

addition, the paragraph ends with, The Little Emperor of the cross roads was

the whole celebration Joe, wished to establish and prove to everybody that even
after he is in his coffin, he is powerful. Even Janie herself has submit to his will

J. Alfred Prufrock is a slightly older gentleman who frequently visits the darker
side of town. He often accompanies the ladies to tea, but never seems to be very
comfortable with his social standing within the group. Perhaps it is due to his
failing physique , or perhaps he simply dislikes the gossiping conversations. It
appears, to me, that he puts on a facade to face the people he meets in the streets in
order to secure acceptance from his peers. Prufrock s greatest obstacle in his life is
his indecisive nature. He wishes to reveal his feelings, but constantly tells himself, In

Foreshadowing in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily
Essay
Foreshadowing in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily William Faulkner paints
a tragic tale about the inevitability of change and the futility of attempting to stop it
in A Rose for Emily . This story is about a lonely upper class woman struggling
with life and traditions in the Old South. Besides effective uses of literary
techniques, such as symbolism and a first plural person narrative style, Faulkner
succeeds in creating a suspenseful and mysterious story by the use of foreshadowing,
which gives a powerful description about death and the tragic struggle of the main
character, Miss Emily. In general the use of foreshadowing often relates to events in
a story, and few are attempted to describe character. Faulkner has effectively... Show

The smell that upsets the community is the next foreshadowing of the death of
Homer. The smell comes a short time after her sweetheart...had deserted her (509).
The manner of Homer s death is implied in the conversation between Miss Emily
and the pharmacist as she is buying arsenic, a poison used to kill rats, as well as the
picture of skull and bones , which is exactly what the town people find left of
Homer (511). The use of foreshadowing to describe the changes in Emily physical
and emotional life is subtler and relies heavily on symbolism. The descriptions of
the decaying house symbolize Miss Emily s physical and emotional decay, and as
well as her mental problems. It foretells of her downfall, a fallen monument (507).
The house is full of dust and dark shadows, It smelled of dust and disuse a close,
dank smell , and symbolizes the death filled environment that Emily lives in (508).
To describe Emily s life, Faulkner effectively uses foreshadowing in conjunction
with structure in the chronology of events. He opens the story with her death, goes
backward in time when she is old, goes backward again to the foreshadowed death
of Homer, and then backward again to her romance with Homer and finally to her
death. Her first description is dark; black was her color, a representation of death,
depression and gloom. Her second mention is an upright torso motionless figure

ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE WHITE PAPER
Four Organizational Culture Types
Acknowledging that organizational culture is an important aspect for space planners,
this paper provides an overview of four organizational culture types: Control
(hierarchy), Compete (market), Collaborate (clan), and Create (adhocracy). This
typology reflects the range of organizational characteristics across two dimensions
that were found critical to organizational effectiveness. The spatial implications for
each type are presented so that workspace planners might be able to interpret the
results of an organizational culture assessment in their process of designing ... Show

These companies are similar to the Control (hierarchy) in that they value stability and
control; however, instead of an inward focus they have an external orientation and
they value differentiation over integration. This began largely because of the
competitive challenges from overseas that forced American companies to search for a
more effective business approach. With their outward focus, Compete (market)
organizations are focused on relationships more specifically, transactions with
suppliers, customers, contractors, unions, legislators, consultants, regulators, etc.
Through effective external relations they feel that they can best achieve success.
While Control (hierarchy) optimize stability and control through rules, standard
operating procedures, and specialized job functions, Compete (market) organizations
are concerned with competitiveness and productivity through emphasis on
partnerships and positioning. General Electric, under the leadership of former CEO
Jack Welch, is a good
The Horn Of Africa
Hamadryas baboons currently inhabit Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Djibouti, and Eritrea
comprising the location we call the Horn of Africa (Swedell 2006). Their habitation
can also be found in the southwestern portion of Arabian Peninsula and Saudi Arabia
(Swedell 2006). The Hamadryas baboons sometimes called desert baboonlives in dry,
desert like environment that distinguish them from other types of baboons (i.e
mountain baboons and savanna baboons). Belonging to the genus Papio, part of the
subfamily Cercopithecinae, five known species of baboons (Hamadryas, Guinea,
Olive, and Yellow) all are distributed across the African continent (Swedell 2006).

Ehardt, T.). In conservation, Hamadryas baboons are in Yangudi Rassa National
Park, Harar Wildlife Sanctuary, Awash Valley, and Northern Eritrea (Gippoliti, S.
Ehardt, T.)
The diet and feeding behavior of the Hamadryas consist primarily of doum palm
trees (Hypaene thebaica), leaves, flowers, pods, seeds of Acacia Senegal, A.
Mellifera, and Grewia berries (Swedell 2006). Their diet seems to consist of
herbivorous foods but there are reports that Abyssinia hares (Lepus Capensis
Habessinicus), small mammals such as dik dik, and infants of larger ungulates
such as gazelles, are also a source of food for the Hamadryas (Swedell 2006). There
are little to no food competition between Hamadryas baboons due to the fact that
food sources are sufficiently dispersed and the population is divided into small
foraging groups (Swedell 2006).
The estimated home range size of Hamadryas baboon is from 9.3 km2 to 28 km2
(Swedell
2006). This numerical estimate changes in relation to season (increase in home
range during the wet season allows for greater vegetation and food abundance and
shorter home range in dry season with decrease in abundance of food) (Swedell 2006).

water itself. When their route requires that they cross a waterway, they usually travel

Title:
How will Salient, Glucose, and a Mixture of the two Affect a Potato s Mass? 2.
Research Question:
How will a potato cube s mass change if put in a mixture of Glucose and Salient
together vs a potato cube just being put into a solution with Glucose or Salient. 3.
Background Information:
Diffusion is where particles move from areas of higher concentration to areas of lower
concentration. Osmosis is the diffusion of water. Glucose (sugar) will not diffuse as
much as Salient because there is already sugar inside of the potato so not as much
water be affected by diffusion. Salient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Potato Cube Size The cubes should be 2.54 centimeters by 2.54 centimeters by 2.54

1 Knife
1 Spoon
1 Balance
4 Red Cups
32oz of water
150 Milliliters of 1M of Salient Solution
150 Milliliters of 1M of Glucose Solution
Timer
8.Method
Cut 4 cubes out of a potato.
Find the mass of each cube.
Fill the 4 cups with 8oz of water each.
Mix 100 Milliliters of Salient Solution into one cup of water, 100 Milliliters of
Glucose Solution in another, and put 50 Milliliters of Salient Solution and 50
Milliliters of Glucose Solution in another and mix it.
Put a cube in each cup and take out after five minutes.
Calculate the new mass of each cube.
Put back in.
Repeat step 5 7 three more times so that the cubes were submerged for 20 minutes in
total.
Record all findings.
II.Data Collection and Processing
Raw Data: Qualitative Data
All of the potatoes remained very much the same. The potato cubes darkened a bit
along with growing a bit but beside that the potato cubes remained very much the
same. However this partially is because of the fact that the solutions were diluted in
the water. And as research shows when the potato cubes are dipped into water they
maintain a similar look.
Quantitative Data
The numbers in the charts are mass in grams. The experiment is over a twenty minute
trial.

An Argumentative Essay About Babymetal
cently, a new( ish) band from Japan called Babymetal (or as they like to be called,
BABYMETAL) has taken the music world by storm. Their rapid rise to success has
caught a lot of people s attention within and outside the metal community,
culminating in a North American tour where they opened for none other than Lady
Gaga.
So who are these young teenage girls and what are they doing on stage with a metal
band? Are they really into metal? What kind of music do they play? Are they good?
What has the metal community s reaction been to them? Are they the real deal ? Is
life like a flat circle? Let us answer these questions one by one.

band? Babymetal are a heavy metal/J pop/symphonic ... Show more content on

Whatever your opinion may be about the kind of music that they play and perform,
there is no denying that every member is a talented musician. The 3 girls are
excellent vocalists overall. Even the backing band is full of top notch musicians.
Guitarist Takayoshi Ohmura even plays for ex Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman
s band. Live, they are one of the most exciting acts to see with their high energy
performances. Their live shows are well staged events with choreographed dance
routines, elaborate lighting, and heavy use of props. Unlike an average metal
concert, their shows are not only about the music, but also about the whole
experience. This is not to say that their music is not good, because they really bring it
on the stage.
What has the metal community s reaction been like? Polarising. Babymetal has
faced a lot of backlash from tr00 metal fans, the primary reasons being their
gimmicky style and that they are just a bunch of musicians who are paid to
perform live, and whose music is dictated by record labels. However some metal
fans have accepted them with open arms, calling them a breath of fresh air in a
genre struggling for relevancy. Their fans also include young kids, crossover J pop
fans, and indie fans. Their following is extremely diverse as a result of their

Ground Pool Research Paper
Aubrey, thank you for your post. I have also grown up being called a water baby . I
started swimming at a very young age and have loved it all my life. We use to have
an in ground pool at our house and I would swim for exercise and play with my
children in the pool. We had a winding slide and we use to make up games that
somehow involved going down the slide and diving into the water to find hidden
objects someone else had placed in the pool. Then we sold our house and I really miss
our pool now.
These days, the only time I get to swim is when we are on vacation. We go to the
beaches in the Caribbean several times a year and there s nothing more enjoyable
than heading to the beach and spending the day in the beautiful crystal clear warm
water.

History And Memory Essay. History and Memory Essay. - The Fiftieth Gate

  • 1. History And Memory Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of "History and Memory" poses a multifaceted challenge that extends beyond the mere act of writing. The complexity arises from the intricate interplay between historical events and the subjective nature of human memory. Juxtaposing the factual accuracy of historical records with the selective and sometimes biased nature of individual and collective memories demands a nuanced approach. Navigating through the vast expanse of historical data requires meticulous research, as the essay must draw upon credible sources to construct a solid foundation. However, the endeavor doesn't end there; one must tread carefully when interpreting historical events to avoid unintentional bias or distortion. Striking a balance between presenting an accurate historical account and acknowledging the influence of personal and cultural memories is a delicate task. Furthermore, the essay must delve into the intricate relationship between history and memory, exploring how the two intersect and shape our understanding of the past. Addressing the challenges of memory, such as its susceptibility to distortion and the impact of cultural influences, adds another layer of complexity to the writing process. Articulating these complexities in a coherent and engaging manner requires a high level of analytical thinking and a deep understanding of the nuances inherent in the topic. Crafting a compelling narrative that weaves together historical facts and the subjective nature of memory demands skillful writing and thoughtful reflection. In conclusion, undertaking an essay on "History and Memory" is no easy feat. It demands meticulous research, careful interpretation of historical events, and a nuanced exploration of the complex interplay between factual accuracy and subjective memory. Having been the world s first structure to be built entirely out of glass, it has inspired and influenced many glass frame construction throughout the years. It held many exhibitions during its lifetime and hosted thousands of people from around the world. Unfortunately, the great Crystal Palace had a major design flaw that inevitable caused its great destruction: flammable wood flooring and glassframe work. The Palace caught fire and a sunny day in November 1936 and was never rebuilt. One of the many buildings that were influenced by the Crystal Palacewas the Masison de Verre in Paris, France. The Maison de Verre was building in 1932 for a rich doctor who used the home as both a living space and his office. The designer had to design the space in such a way that accommodated the doctor s needs. • 6. Pros And Cons Of Roman Government The Roman government is very unique compared to other societies. The majority of societies were either controlled by monarchy or democracy, however the Romans found a way to have both. The Roman empire had both a senate and an emperor. The Senate was Democracy which was made up by electing officials who although made laws couldn t finalize the law without approval from emperor. The Emperor made up the Monarchy part having the final say in all important objectives. The Roman Emperor was very much like our modern day president. He oversaw the senate often conducting the meetings. Even though he conducted the Senate, he actually approved only what he deemed worth for finalization. Some of the most famous leaders in history such as Julius Ceasar, Augsustus Ceasar, and Nero were Emperors of Rome. The Senate and the Roman People (SPQR, or Senatus Populusque Romanus), described the difference in class between the Senate and ordinary people. In conclusion, one can understand that the theme of Holmes poem is to be forever young and to be with his loved ones. The intention is to pull the reader in by showing how fun and bright youth is. He used rainbow instead of black to appeal to the reader that being young is a pleasant time. He also revealed in this quote that the old man wanted to be a husband and a father again, too. This part in the poem foreshadows that the old man wants to be young again because when he was younger, he had a wife and child. Therefore, one can infer that the old man probably lost his loved ones, or maybe something happened between them when he got older. Holmes also used imagery to describe the angel in this poem. He used an angel because an angel symbolizes power and greatness. Holmes did not use a genie because a genie would of tricked him or messed up his wish; that is why he used something that represented purity like an angel.Throughout this poem, Holmes also only used bright and appealing words to bestow the love and desire the old man wanted for youth. However, when Holmes was describing old age, he used dull and depressing words, so one could feel static about old age and feel bias towards youth. On another note, Holmes did a great job by expressing his overall theme with the use of imagery. Holmes also used symbols to express his theme in this poem. • 12. The Positive And Negative Impacts Of The Theatrical... With resounding consistency, every reference to The Theatrical Syndicate begins with the same anecdotal tale: One day in 1896, six theatre businessmen met for lunch at the Holland House Hotel. The gentlemen gathered that day where in a consensus about a few things, but the greatest of which being the state of the American theatre and its institutional need for centralization. (Mroczka) The aim of the following discussion is to contextualize this organization within American theatre history while illustrating the positive and negative impacts of The Theatrical Syndicate on the theatre community. For much of the 19th century, theatre production hinged on resident stock company and visiting star systems. The former was an English import and signified the delineations between a permanent or touring company. Resident companies had an arsenal of plays that would be performed nightly, on a rotating basis, by actors selected on their ability to play interchangeable stock characters. This practice was innovated mid century by the visiting star system. The resident stock company was self sufficient in staging productions, but when big name actors came into town, they would often make their way on the bill for local productions as a way to draw crowds. (Encyclopedia Britannica) As a promotional method, however, this system would prove too great a burden on operating costs. This would serve as one of many reasons American theatre would shortly hereafter transition into a

Professor James Gelvin tiptoed on several touchy subjects, reiterating his concentration with causality history, nevertheless his historical background gave insight to nationalistic movements both groups have. The third historian, Professor Ilan Pappe concentrated the bulk of his talk on explaining the movement of Palestinian refugees while advocating for the acknowledgement of Israeli brutality in some Arab villages. Naturally, as it was the first time all three sides had come head to head, the debate got heated. This was especially true when comparing ideas of what the occupied territory should be described as. Applying John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism Theory In July 2011, activists shut down a San Francisco subway station as a way of protesting the death of a man shot by a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police officer. This case was totally against the utilitarianism s ethical. The principal of utilitarianism state that a person should perform an action that will produce the most benefit to each person or the most happiness to the greatest number of people. Happiness in this term is defined as something that is fun but not to be a moral action. Quinton (1973), for instance, assume an individual who supports utilitarianismas those who agree that the goodness of an action or behavior is determined by the outcome of the action. It is sometimes described as duty or obligation or rule based ethics, because rules bind you to your duty (Wikipedia). This theory is depending only on the action not included the outcome of the action. The reason for me not to support this theory because as by applying this theory to the protesters, we can see that this theory just evaluates the action of the protesters, not the effect of having protest by the protesters. By this theory, the actions of the protesters are considered to be a good and a morality action as the activist only goal was to uphold the justice. But, what I disagree about this Kant theory is although the protestors had a good goal, but if the outcome of this case is worse, how can it be a good and a morality action? Thus, I think this theory not working when applying it to the

  • 17. The Leading Cause Of Acquired Disability On The Patients... 1. Introduction to Intervention Strokes are known as the leading cause of acquired disability in adults where between 20 30% are left unable to walk, and leaving those who are able to walk, with a moderate to severe walking disability (Maguire et al., 2012). This disability results in a huge socioeconomic impact on the patients and their families lives. In order to improve their quality of life, an improvement in balance is the important first step in which is crucial to enable more independent movement, for example walking. A stroke can be brought on by many different factors like age, gender and family history all of which one cannot control. Others are lifestyle factors like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity or being over weight, poor diet, lack of exercise and drinking too much alcohol (stroke foundation Australia). Currently there is no universally accepted treatment (Ward, 2005). There is evidence to suggest that improved motor recovery occurs when the brain uses the original neural system to control the movement as this is shown to represent true recovery. Whereas, if new networks were to form in the unaffected hemisphere of the brain, motor recovery will be reduced. As a result of using these new networks, fine motor control is lost and employment of compensatory movement strategies are associated with a poorer functional outcome (Nudo, 2007). The recovery of motor skills following a stroke, like walking, relies on the brain s ability

A Report On Flight Training Abstract Flight Training Devices or commonly known as simulators, are frequently used in military aviator training and is an important training tool for safely teaching flying skills in a controlled environment that is normally too dangerous, or costly to acquire through the use of an actual aircraft. The U.S. Air Force and Army typically use simulators to safely train new Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV) operators on critical tasks performed for proficiency and certification without the use of costly flyable aviation resources. Research has discovered there is a lack of conventional standardized training for any of the armed services, but an inter service roadmap is planned for combining future training programs. The researcher will analyze multiple military and civilian aeronautical based articles on the subjects of simulator use for operator training including Army and Air Force future requirements for UAVs, and applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. Findings will be clear regarding the need for cost saving initiatives and standardized UAV training, including the implications of new FAA regulations. Research will also delve into the fact that inconsistent operator training is a problem for incorporating different types of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) into the National Airspace (NAS). It is also determined that future military training will be affected by FAA research and findings on this subject. Finally, the results will reveal the need for

The petition was presented to the Assembly after only one month. This cause became obvious that it wasn t only for the Indian s right to vote but for their survival as a community in Natal. The majority of Indians had just stayed in South Africa after their time as slaves on plantations or in mines ended. These men were about to have to pay a tax of twenty five pounds, an amount they couldn t pay. Gandhi appealed to the Viceroy of India, the Colonial Secretary in London, and to Naoroji, the Indian member of Parliament (Coolidge 44). He registered as an advocate before Natal s Supreme Court, wrote articles, gave speeches, and even removed his turban while the court was in session. Though he could not win voting privileges for immigrants from India, he did retain the power to vote for those Indians already on the voting lists. Unfortunately, Gandhi s hard work did not abolish the tax but he managed to get it reduced to three pounds, still only some could pay this. More important than these two achievements was the Natal Indian Congress. This was a permanent organization with an educational branch and it was available to the poor. Its wide availability exposed the organization to the masses. After his accomplishments in South Africa Gandhi returned to India. With the arrival of Republican admiral Gnaeus Domitus Ahenobarbus, communications back to Italy were made very difficult because of the large fleet of ships that he brought with him which blockaded the triumvirate. These fleets of the Liberators did not wish to engage in a physical battle with the Triumvirate, but only to block their communications with their supply base back in Italy. With this swarming fleet they were able to outflank the Triumvirate and set up their own defensive positions forcing Norbanus and Saxa to retreat from their positions moving west giving the Liberators the upper hand at this spot. Brutus and Cassius were able to gain position on the Via Egnatia on each side with this fleet. To the north and south were impassable marshes and mountains. This article provides information concerning: memories that society wants to acknowledge and pass on to future generations; the manner in which those memories are represented; the responsibility that society has to fully represent aspects of history while also brining into questions the unwillingness to recognise and respect different conceptions of history and how this can diminish the potential that museums have to advance cross cultural understanding. This article is especially useful in addressing the issues of memory at the heart of the Australian history wars as it examines in detail the effect of the representation of memories, how they are framed, and in which formats they are reported, upon how they are received by an audience and by academia. The article addresses the factor that the relevance and validity of memories can be seen as discredited by academia because, in this case, they have not been sourced from written evidence by the party presenting the memory and therefore decrease their value from an empirical standpoint. The framing of a narrative is also especially important as in this article, the name under which evidence is presented has become key not only to how it is received but

Analysis Of The 1995 Chicago Heat Wave Essay Durkheimian Analysis of the 1995 Chicago Heat Wave Emile Durkheim was a French sociologist in the late 1800s and early 1900s who came up with the concepts of social regulation and integration. These concepts have to do with the state of societies and how they work. More specifically, social regulation is the norms created by either formal laws or social pressure. The way people are expected to live and perform their daily tasks or jobs are somewhat decided by social regulation. In its most basic form, it s what is and isn t deemed acceptable by societies standards. Social integration on the other hand is the extent to which the group or society matters. This brings up the importance of the individual as opposed to the importance of the society. Strength of social ties within the community are big influences on how socially integrated a society is. These two concepts helped Durkheim better form an understanding for things such as suicide rates. Once understood, these concepts were applied by Durkheim to suicide rates and the reasoning behind why they are the way they are. Before this though, Durkheim checked through many other factors such as mental illness, ethnicity, and climate to see what affected suicide rates. None of these factors correlated with the rate until he tested religion. He realized that different religions had different suicide rates. Methodists and Episcopalians had higher suicide rates while Southern Baptists had lower rates. To find out why he applied

This story is about a lonely upper class woman struggling with life and traditions in the Old South. Besides effective uses of literary techniques, such as symbolism and a first plural person narrative style, Faulkner succeeds in creating a suspenseful and mysterious story by the use of foreshadowing, which gives a powerful description about death and the tragic struggle of the main character, Miss Emily. The use of foreshadowing to describe the changes in Emily physical and emotional life is subtler and relies heavily on symbolism. The descriptions of the decaying house symbolize Miss Emily s physical and emotional decay, and as well as her mental problems. It foretells of her downfall, a fallen monument (507). The house is full of dust and dark shadows, It smelled of dust and disuse a close, dank smell , and symbolizes the death filled environment that Emily lives in (508). Her first description is dark; black was her color, a representation of death, depression and gloom. Her second mention is an upright torso motionless figure

  • 41. Literature Review On Biological Neural Network Chapter 2: Literature Review In this chapter, we discuss a brief introduction of neural network and biometrics . Traditionally, the term neural network had been used to refer to a network or circuit of biological neurons. Neural networks are inspired by our brains. The modern usage of the term often refers to artificial neural networks, which are composed of artificial neurons or nodes. Thus, the term has two distinct usages: 2.1 Biological Neural Network generally, a biological neural network is consists of a set or sets of chemically linked or functionally linked neurons. The human brain owns about 1014 synapses and 1011 neurons. A neuronconsisting of a soma (cell body),dendrites (receive signal) and axons (send signal). A synapses... Tharp ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE WHITE PAPER 04.09 ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE WHITE PAPER Four Organizational Culture Types Acknowledging that organizational culture is an important aspect for space planners, this paper provides an overview of four organizational culture types: Control (hierarchy), Compete (market), Collaborate (clan), and Create (adhocracy). This typology reflects the range of organizational characteristics across two dimensions that were found critical to organizational effectiveness. The spatial implications for each type are presented so that workspace planners might be able to interpret the results of an organizational culture assessment in their process of designing ... These companies are similar to the Control (hierarchy) in that they value stability and control; however, instead of an inward focus they have an external orientation and they value differentiation over integration. This began largely because of the competitive challenges from overseas that forced American companies to search for a more effective business approach. With their outward focus, Compete (market) organizations are focused on relationships more specifically, transactions with suppliers, customers, contractors, unions, legislators, consultants, regulators, etc. Through effective external relations they feel that they can best achieve success. While Control (hierarchy) optimize stability and control through rules, standard operating procedures, and specialized job functions, Compete (market) organizations are concerned with competitiveness and productivity through emphasis on partnerships and positioning. General Electric, under the leadership of former CEO Jack Welch, is a good

Their habitation can also be found in the southwestern portion of Arabian Peninsula and Saudi Arabia (Swedell 2006). The Hamadryas baboons sometimes called desert baboonlives in dry, desert like environment that distinguish them from other types of baboons (i.e mountain baboons and savanna baboons). Belonging to the genus Papio, part of the subfamily Cercopithecinae, five known species of baboons (Hamadryas, Guinea, Olive, and Yellow) all are distributed across the African continent (Swedell 2006). Each species territory consists of a distinct hybridization zone overlapping other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ehardt, T.). In conservation, Hamadryas baboons are in Yangudi Rassa National Park, Harar Wildlife Sanctuary, Awash Valley, and Northern Eritrea (Gippoliti, S. Ehardt, T.) The diet and feeding behavior of the Hamadryas consist primarily of doum palm trees (Hypaene thebaica), leaves, flowers, pods, seeds of Acacia Senegal, A. Mellifera, and Grewia berries (Swedell 2006). Their diet seems to consist of herbivorous foods but there are reports that Abyssinia hares (Lepus Capensis Habessinicus), small mammals such as dik dik, and infants of larger ungulates such as gazelles, are also a source of food for the Hamadryas (Swedell 2006). There are little to no food competition between Hamadryas baboons due to the fact that food sources are sufficiently dispersed and the population is divided into small foraging groups (Swedell 2006). The estimated home range size of Hamadryas baboon is from 9.3 km2 to 28 km2 (Swedell 2006). This numerical estimate changes in relation to season (increase in home range during the wet season allows for greater vegetation and food abundance and shorter home range in dry season with decrease in abundance of food) (Swedell 2006). Though the baboons travel close to running water, they actively avoid the water itself. When their route requires that they cross a waterway, they usually travel along it until they find a spot where it is narrow

Samson Malcolm Fratello Suncoast High School Design Title: How will Salient, Glucose, and a Mixture of the two Affect a Potato s Mass? 2. Research Question: How will a potato cube s mass change if put in a mixture of Glucose and Salient together vs a potato cube just being put into a solution with Glucose or Salient. 3. Background Information: Diffusion is where particles move from areas of higher concentration to areas of lower concentration. Osmosis is the diffusion of water. Glucose (sugar) will not diffuse as much as Salient because there is already sugar inside of the potato so not as much water be affected by diffusion. Salient ... Their rapid rise to success has caught a lot of people s attention within and outside the metal community, culminating in a North American tour where they opened for none other than Lady Gaga. So who are these young teenage girls and what are they doing on stage with a metal band? Are they really into metal? What kind of music do they play? Are they good? What has the metal community s reaction been to them? Are they the real deal ? Is life like a flat circle? Let us answer these questions one by one. Whatever your opinion may be about the kind of music that they play and perform, there is no denying that every member is a talented musician. The 3 girls are excellent vocalists overall. Even the backing band is full of top notch musicians. Guitarist Takayoshi Ohmura even plays for ex Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman s band. Live, they are one of the most exciting acts to see with their high energy performances. Their live shows are well staged events with choreographed dance routines, elaborate lighting, and heavy use of props. Unlike an average metal concert, their shows are not only about the music, but also about the whole experience. This is not to say that their music is not good, because they really bring it on the stage. What has the metal community s reaction been like? Polarising. Babymetal has faced a lot of backlash from tr00 metal fans, the primary reasons being their gimmicky style and that they are just a bunch of musicians who are paid to perform live, and whose music is dictated by record labels. However some metal fans have accepted them with open arms, calling them a breath of fresh air in a genre struggling for relevancy. Their fans also include young kids, crossover J pop fans, and indie fans. Their following is extremely diverse as a result of their unconventional
  • 47. Ground Pool Research Paper Aubrey, thank you for your post. I have also grown up being called a water baby . I started swimming at a very young age and have loved it all my life. We use to have an in ground pool at our house and I would swim for exercise and play with my children in the pool. We had a winding slide and we use to make up games that somehow involved going down the slide and diving into the water to find hidden objects someone else had placed in the pool. Then we sold our house and I really miss our pool now. These days, the only time I get to swim is when we are on vacation. We go to the beaches in the Caribbean several times a year and there s nothing more enjoyable than heading to the beach and spending the day in the beautiful crystal clear warm water.
