Essay On Frankenstein
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Frankenstein" can be a challenging endeavor, as it requires a
deep understanding of Mary Shelley's classic novel and the ability to analyze its themes,
characters, and literary techniques. The complexity of the narrative, coupled with the myriad
interpretations that scholars have presented over the years, adds an extra layer of intricacy to the
task.
One must delve into the intricate layers of Victor Frankenstein's character, the monster's plight
for acceptance, and the moral and ethical questions raised by Shelley's work. Analyzing the
novel's historical context, Shelley's intentions, and the societal implications of the narrative adds
another dimension to the essay. This complexity demands a careful balance between textual
analysis and critical interpretation.
Moreover, the enduring relevance of "Frankenstein" in discussions about science, ethics, and
humanity adds to the weight of the essay. Addressing these broader themes while maintaining a
focused and coherent argument can be a delicate task, requiring a nuanced approach to ensure
that the essay remains insightful and cohesive.
To successfully navigate these challenges, it is crucial to conduct thorough research, engage with
scholarly articles, and explore various perspectives on the novel. Crafting a well-structured and
persuasive essay involves synthesizing these diverse viewpoints while presenting a unique and
well-supported thesis.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Frankenstein" demands a combination of literary analysis,
historical contextualization, and critical thinking. The multifaceted nature of Mary Shelley's
novel requires writers to navigate a complex web of themes and ideas, making the task both

Climbing Mount Everest Research Paper
Poop is a thing that no one likes to imagine on a legendary mountain. For decades,
expeditions to scale Mount Everest have been on nearly everyone s bucket list.
Thinking realistically, the location is a mountain a mountain that does not have its
own sewer system. Climbing Mount Everest Making the journey takes
approximately six to nine weeks. As you can imagine, those on that climb will
have to relieve themselves at some point and the average person moves their
bowels once every day or every other day. Over the years, the excrement piles up.
While the snow usually buries it, poop is a pollutant threatening the spread of
disease. The Problem Human waste is scattered all about this rocky climb. It could

Sweatshop Labour
INTRODUCTION
Sweatshop workers make the ultimate sacrifice for profit. Merchandise in the garment
industry are outsourced and produced by slave labourers forced in working
conditions that are cruel and exploitative, often in fear of punishment. A sweatshop is
defined by the US Department of Labor as a factory that violates two or more labor
laws (Do Something, 2016). Human trafficking in the garment industry is prevalent
globally, but astronomical numbers are concentrated in developing countries such as
Indonesia and Vietnam. Multimillion dollar, globalized companies have no
accountability and turn a blind eye to the exploitation towards trafficked victims
occurring behind the scenes in fear of jeopardizing company reputations. This

The countries listed in the table are organized by decreasing wages. At the top of the
list, both being developed countries, the United States and the United Kingdom

sweatshop labourers work in these conditions voluntarily because it s their only
opportunity to employment and allows them to sustain the cost of living. Because
of the lack of transparency in the industry, consumers are unaware of the fair pay
that these labourers are owed. Those who are trafficked into sweatshop labour
usually do not have a choice. Trafficked sweatshop labour victims are all held
against their will and forced to work primarily to give businesses the best chance at
earning a profit. Moreover, as they continue to be underpaid, or often times not paid,
they are unable to provide themselves with adequate living conditions for themselves
or their family members. Appropriate and fair compensation for labour is virtually
nonexistent in sweatshop
Compare And Contrast The Poem Sex Without Love
Sex is something as old as the human races itself because without it there would be
no procreation of the human race. Love, lust, and sex are often said to be
interchangeable but in actuality they are not. Lust is being infatuated with a person
for their appearance, Love is accepting a person for their appearance, their brain,
their personality, and their values, Sex, however, is the desire and the need to be
touched by another. People have sex when they are in love, when the feel the urge,
when they are bored, or simply because they like it. The best way to explore the
differences in why people have sex is to explore the way the story is told. Sex
without Love is a poem which questions how people can have sex without remotely

other or are they doing it to make up for the love? In all honesty either answer

Darfur Is Dying
The game I have chosen to analyze named Darfur is Dying. It is a flash based
browser game about the crisis in Darfur, western Sudan. The game begins with the
selection of avatar to forage for water. The gender and age of the selected character
will mainly determine the success or failure. The main purpose of the gameis to
enable players to learn about the crisis in Darfur and get involve with stopping the
crisis. Therefore, we can conclude that Darfur is Dying is a serious game.
According to Beuer and Bente (2010), a serious game is a game which its primary
goal is education, rather than entertainment. By analyzing this serious game, I would
like to answer the question: How can Darfur is Dying enhance players political
engagement? Neys and Janz (2010) conducted a research about how... Show more

Furthermore, participants also reported high levels of engagement through gaming,
which lead to active discussions after play. They wanted to know the location of
Darfur, what was happening, and most importantly, why genocide was taking
place in Darfur. Thus, relating to engagement function, Neys and Janz (2010)
reported that Darfur is Dying motivated people to get involved in political crisis
addressed because action items are embedded within the game such as contacting
people via emails which invite them to play and be informed about Darfur, sending
messages to the U.S government or petitioning U.S Congress. Accordingly, Ruiz
(2006, cited in Neys Janz, 2010) also revealed that her game predominantly aimed
at inspiring people to take action to prevent the killing and suffering in Sudan. In
conclusion, Darfur is Dying is a serious game which involves the players in political
engagement. Not only has it raised public awareness of the killing Darfur, but also
empowered game audiences to take action to stop the political
Life of a Correctional Officer
LIFE OF A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER
CRJ: 303 Corrections
17 March 2013
Abstract
The life of a correctional officer is something that is easily over looked. Not
understanding or knowing the intricate details that go into what it actually takes to
coexist with incarcerated inmates is one of the reasons that the general public is able
to go about their daily lives, not thinking or wondering how those inmates are
controlled. Correctional officers have one of the hardest jobs on the planet, having to
work with prison inmates on a daily basis and not knowing when something may
happen that could endanger themselves or their fellow correctional officers.

Some of the Correctional Officer functions are, to enforce and keep order, they
supervise activities of inmates, aid in rehabilitation and counseling of offenders,
routinely search inmates for contraband items, and often report on inmates conduct
on a day to day basis. While the daily duties of a correctional officer can truly be
viewed as the proverbial daily grind , they often have to perform these prison duties
while dealing with stressful and often times very dangerous situations. While most of
us on the outside world try to make a routine day more enjoyable, routine for the
correctional officers within the prison is not a negative thing in the least, as a routine
day is very important to the successful operation of a correctional facility. Routine in
a prison environment is the consistent, scheduled, and expected activities that make
up the day within a prison (Seiter, 2011).
The daily grind for correctional officers include specific assignments that can be
anything from supervising inmates on a work crew or in a housing area to a non
inmate contact job in a tower or control center. Some of the different categories of
correctional officers assignments include living units, work detail supervisors,
industrial shop and school officers, administration building
Essay on Mountaintop Mining and Environmental and
Energy...
Mountaintop mining has been practiced in the United States since the 1960s,
primarily in the Appalachian Mountains. The process involves removing all tress
from the site, then the topsoil, and then using explosives to remove the remaining
soil and rock to reveal coal. The coal is removed and processed, and then the
mountaintop is reclaimed with soil or an appropriate substitute, and sometimes
replanted.6 While mountaintop mining in the Appalachians is only a small
percentage of coalproduced by the United States, the issues surrounding it are
complex and wide ranging. Some of the many issues raised with mountaintop mining
are: high unemployment (due to the lessened man power needed to operate the
mining machinery), deforestation,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Recently, they have rejected permits that would contaminate or destroy water sources,
and enacted fines against pollution violators.8,16 Directly in opposition to the EPA s
regulation are the coal companies mining in the Appalachians. Some of the biggest
players in the industry are Alpha Natural Resources (formerly known as Massey
Energy), and Consol Energy. Some coal mining companies are more open to higher
environmental standards than others. In West Virginia the non profit Coal River
Mountain Watch is a community advocate group that work to expose the injustices
and hazards of mountaintop mining.6 Also in West Virginia is the Mountain Party, a
political party affiliated with the national Green Party, whose main platform is to end
mountaintop mining.12 A major regulatory player is the West Virginia Department of
Environmental Protection, who issues many of the permits that allow for
mountaintop mining and waste removal practices. The people who live in the
Appalachians are a majorly invested group. They on one hand rely on mining
companies for jobs and financial assistance and support (many bring in medical
professionals and other services to communities that otherwise couldn t afford them),
but on the other their very livelihoods are

I believe that the job analysis was extremely accurate; however the Myers Briggs

throughout our life and the last time I took this test was in high school so perhaps I

As for my personality traits matching with my dream job, strangely enough,
instructional coordinators tend to be ENFJs, which is the Myer s Briggs

instructional coordinators are in charge of managing and sometimes creating

of their job, those who have this career usually have to enjoy working with others

make sense that they need strong planning skills in order to coordinate and
implement new curriculum. Though my personality based of the most recent test I

Karl Marx And Capitalism Essay
Capitalism is an economic system in which investment, production, distribution and
exchange of wealth is maintained by private individuals. German Philosopher, Karl
Marx is capitalism s most famous critic. Karl Marx was a journalist who wrote
many books and articles about capitalism. Marx viewed capitalism as eventually
leading into a socialist society. Socialismis an economic systemwith investment,
production, distribution and exchange of wealth. Marx believed that under a

Marx insist that capitalism was like paying a worker one price for doing
something and selling it to someone else for a higher price, and to him this was
exploitation. Marx believes capitalism is unstable because it causes crisis of
abundance in an economic system rather than shortages. What enraged Marx was
that we are able to produce so much. We can supply everyone on the planet with a
car, house, access to a decent school and hospitals. He mentions how capitalist
factories are so efficient, and requires less people to work. This leads to the big
unemployment word that many capitalism societies face. Marx see s this
unemployment as freedom which is interesting because not getting a paycheck and
doing nothing productive is a form of freedom in his eyes. Marx wanted to
redistribute the wealth that was consumed mostly by the rich and share it with
everyone. Marx believed in commodity fetish. Capitalism put such strong emphasis
on economic interest instead of the heart of life. For example, marriage, capitalism
puts business as a major factor in marriage. Marx argued that marriage was an
extension of business and people only stayed together for financial reasons and not
love. The bourgeois would fight with their spouse s and have miserable marriages.
The capitalism system forces everyone to put economic interests in the heart of their
lives so they don t know deep honest love and relationships. The twentieth century
feminist movement argued that

Synopsis The purpose of this research paper is to explore the use of nuclear
propulsion in Project Orion and future uses. Project Orion intended to use numerous
atomic bombs for propulsion. The history of the project will be explained as it was
short lived, but its technology led to new source energy for spacecraft, nuclear
energy. Project Orion was meant to be used for peaceful purposes only, but it can
also potentially be used as a weapon of war. The Sci fi paper will utilize the
technology of using nuclear propulsion and nuclear bombs. It will relate off the
propulsion and orbital mechanics category. The story will be based on outer space
weaponry and wars fought in space.

The Project aimed to make a spaceship that was simple and affordable. The project
was initiated by Ted Taylor and Francis de Hoffman, founders of General Atomic
and by physicist Freeman Dyson of Princeton s Institute for Advanced Study on
1958 in San Diego [2]. Their goal was to land on Mars by 1965 and to Saturn by
1970 [1]. They were funded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) in
July for $1 million per year. There came a time in 1959 when ARPA no longer was
able to support Project Orion due to insufficient funds and approached the Air
Force for funding [1]. The Air Force reluctantly decided to fund only if they can
find a use for it. The Secretary of Defense, Robert McNamara, refused to increase
funding to Project Orion as he felt it was not a military asset [2]. The Orion team
inquired NASA for funding as its current funding would not be enough to build a
flyable spacecraft [2]. NASA, same as the Air Force, reluctantly provided funding
due its fear that it would cause a public relations disaster. Project Orion was hit by a
fatal blow as the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs came into an
agreement of the Outer Space Treaty [3]. The Outer Space Treaty, signed by 103
countries, was signed in 1967 and served as the basic foundation of international
space law [3]. The Outer Space Treaty states that exploration of
A Hero Is A True Hero
Is someone fighting in a war a hero, or is a man flying around with a cape in a
movie? As people grow and change so does their definition of a hero. A hero is any
person who does the right thing. Children think of heroes as superheroes with crazy
powers, but a best friend, or a neighbor could be a true hero. A hero does not run
away from a challenge, and is not a coward. At times heroes do not even notice that
they are a hero. In a person s life they will meet dozens of heroes everyday, but not
even know. Even when no one is watching, a hero does the right thing, puts others
before themselves, and always accepts a challenge.
All heroes do the right thing even when no one is watching. A hero will not bully
or make fun of people to their face or behind their back. A hero is that kid that will
help pick up books when someone drops them, not to feel good but to do the right
thing. Paramedics save lives everyday, just to save lives not for the reward. That is
what makes a true hero. In an interview with McCall magazine, Oliver Stone says
Scientists who spend years of their lives trying to find cures for diseases. The
teenager who says no to crack. The inner city kid who works at McDonald s
instead of selling drugs. The kid who stands alone instead of joining a gang, which
would give him an instant identity (Stone 74). All of those people are doing the
right thing. The teenager is saving his own life, the kid working at McDonald s is
stopping others from overdosing. The kid who stood alone saved his own and other
lives, because gangs kill. Everyone can be a hero.
Additionally a hero puts others lives before his or her own. Police and other first
responders go to the place they have to not knowing if they will live or die, just
wanting to help whoever needs it. Firefighters run in burning buildings with only
one goal in mind, rescuing the person in the building. The dad in the military trying
to protect his country and family is another hero. Abraham lincoln helped america
develop and got the country through dark times. He freed the slaves not worrying of
being killed. In O Captain, My Captain, Whitman says, The ship is anchored safe
and sound, its voyage closed and done; 20From fearful trip the victor ship comes
How To Justify Antigone
I dissent from German philosopher s Hegel s interpretation that this conflict is not
between good and evil, but between one sided positions, each of which embodies
some good. From my perspective, I do not think both sides can be equally justified,
due to the fact that Antigone came upon an unjust situation and took appropriate
action, while Kreon is trying to enforce a law that pains the people around him.
Therefore, I can justify Antigone s point of view rather than Kreon s because I
can relate to the fact that your family and personal beliefs are above all else. Kreon
took the predicament too far by declaring that Antigone be put to death for her
courteous action of providing a proper burial for her brother, Polyneices. As I see
it, Antigone had every right to perform a burial for Polyneices. She was not trying
to deliberately upset or disobey Kreon, but she knew she had to do what she felt
was right in her heart. She was aware of the consequences and she still followed
through with it, therefore, it clearly meant a lot to her. Burying her brother,
respecting the gods, and standing up to Kreon demonstrates her true defiant
character for staying loyal to herself and to family, no matter the outcome. It could
not have been easy for Antigone to challenge Kreon who is her uncle and also the
King of Thebes. This showcases how strong and courageous she is for not being
afraid or ashamed to tell Kreon what she s done. A quote by Antigone on page 40
and lines 499 507 of Sophocle s play states Then what s delaying you? For there is
nothing in your words that s pleasing to me may there never be! And naturally you
disapprove of mine as well. Yet how could I have won more glorious renown than
by the act of placing my own brother in a tomb? These people here would say my
action pleases all of them, if fear did not lock up their tongues. But this is one of
kingship s many blessings that it can both act and speak just as it wishes to. After
Kreon discovers that Antigone is the one responsible for the burial of Polyneices,
Antigone is essentially telling Kreon that she knows he disagrees with her actions,
but she has no regret and he should just take her away and kill her because she is
content and proud of herself for

Essay On Yorick s Skull In Hamlet
This same skull, sir, was / Yorick s skull, the King s jester (5.1.166 167). I argue
that Yorick s skull is significant to Shakespeare s play Hamlet because it further
increases the character Hamlet s obsession with death. There is great significance
in the fact that the bone that was found was a bone as dramatic and as important as
a skull. The significance that it is the skull of not only a jester, a character whose
point in life is to bring joy to people, but also the fact that Yorick was someone
Hamletknew as a child. All of these factors contribute to Hamlet s obsession with
death and mortality.
By this point in Hamlet, Hamlet has already experienced a great bit of death with
people he has known throughout his life. It is not a shock that Hamlet would start
having such an obsession with death and mortality because of all the death he
experiences in this play. Discovering the skull of a jester is almost of greater
importance than the other deaths in the play, because this is the first time Hamlet has
seen the bones of someone he once knew in the play. Hamlet s father came to him in

poetic reasoning, instead of scientific, the heart could represent feelings and mortal

Hamlet finding the bone that held the brain and facial structure of Yorick instead of
the many bones that hold the heart inside of the body, the significance is that Yorick

the jester felt in his heart. Theoretically, Hamlet valued the logic in people, not
feelings, because throughout the play he manipulates people using his words to

The Code Of Professional Conduct
Weaknesses Conflictions in the Professional Code The AICPA Code of Professional
Conduct, regardless of its numerous strengths, the Code of Professional Conduct has
some serious weaknesses. The accounting profession is constantly changing and
making improvements. The first weakness in the Code of Professional Conduct deals
with conflictions within the code due to the code being constantly updated (Dienhart,

the directives cause conflictions with one another, whether it is direct or indirect.

Hypertension Is Characterized By Chronic Elevated Blood...
Background
Hypertension is characterized by chronic elevated blood pressure1. It can be a
predisposing factor or secondary to heart failure. In the US, there are 75 million
individuals who have hypertension with two thirds of individuals 65 years or older
diagnosed. Various factors can contribute to the development of hypertension
including renal disease, thyroid disease, dysregulation of hormones, and alcohol
consumption. The disease also highly correlates with age as even individuals 55
years old with normal blood pressure have a 90% lifetime risk of developing
hypertension with age. Left untreated, hypertension can result in retinopathy,
cardiomyopathy, and stroke with the most common cause of death being coronary
artery disease. The diagnoses of hypertension is primarily done by the monitoring of
blood pressure with multiple readings of systolic pressure greater than 140 mmHg
and diastolic pressure greater than 90 mmHg indicating stage one hypertension1,2.
The evaluation of the eyes, heart, thyroid, and renal system are also important in
understanding the cause and extent of hypertension. Initial treatment involves
lifestyle and diet modifications such as exercise, smoking, cessation, and limited
sodium intake. Patients unresponsive to lifestyle and diet modification or have a
blood pressure greater than 160/100 mmHg are recommended by the American Heart
Association to begin drug therapy. Current JNC 8 guidelines dictate the goal of
treatment to reduce blood pressure

details of the Greek empire, the Tang dynasty, and the Ottoman Empires by
highlighting the significant aspects such as the origin, the rise, and the eventual fall
while at the same time highlighting the factors that led to the occurrence of the
mentioned events.
Greek Empire
Historians has not agree on the origins of the ancient Greece. However, most of them
tend to converge on the thoughts that this origin can be traced back to the 18th
century BCE (Hart, 2014). Mycenaeans were the earliest inhabitants of Greece, but an
invasion around 1100BCE left the region uncivilized leading to the Dark Ages.
Ancient Greek is known as the period before the emergence of the classical Greece;
this was in the period starting from around 800B.C to 500 B.C. the Dark Age saw
the people living in small villages, which were scattered throughout the region. Later
on, these villages grew in size and
Octopuses Research Paper
Octopuses are better at camouflage than any other animals. They can change their
shape and color to look like other creatures.
The best of these morphing creatures is the mimic octopus. It adopts the colors of a
poisonous sea snake and changes its body into a thin ribbon to scare predators away.
People have seen mimic octopuses look like lion fish, sea stars and other animals.
When hungry, the octopus takes the form of a crab. Crabs fooled by the display end
up eaten.
Scientists and engineers are impressed by the octopuses. A team of Cornell
University scientists copied the mimic using sheets of rubber and mesh. The
scientists got help from octopus expert Roger Hanlon.
As they report in a study published Thursday in the journal Science, they ... Show

The papillae are what help an octopus use camouflage. The papillae go limp when
an octopus wants to decrease the drag of water against skin, allowing it to speed
away. Then fleshy nubs can appear, and the skin bulges. Octopuses can match the
look of seaweed so closely that they become almost invisible.
Itai Cohen, a writer of the new study, said he was amazed by videos of the shape
changers. Such a scene was filmed by Hanlon and posted online.
People can stare at an underwater scene and have no idea an octopus is there, Cohen
said. Then it changes color and shape. It appears out of nowhere, he said.
Cohen was impressed. That is just awesome, he thought. How the heck do we do that?
He and fellow Cornell scientist Robert Shepherd gave James Pikul the work of
figuring it out. Pikul was studying to be a professor at the time. Today he is a
professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Scientists and engineers have been trying
to control the shape of soft, stretchable materials, said Pikul. However, cheaply
making these materials has been difficult.

Descriptive Essay About Field Day
FIELD DAY
Everything started to look dim, then I was out. I was at school and I was thrilled
for the day to start. The reason why was because today was field day. So I got to
my homeroom and my teacher Mrs. Martin (my second grade teacher) started
explaining what was going to happen today. I couldn t make out everything from the
fact that I was thinking about what was going to happen today. We started heading
outside carrying all the materials we will need for the day.
So if you were not sure what field day is I ll give you a summary of what it s about,
so field day is a day when you hang outside playing games with competition against
other classes.
So anyways, my class got to the fields along with the other classes and we started the
games. When the first second of the first game started, I felt nervous. I was very
competitive about things and I wanted to win. I watched as the games went by and
I had to because I was the captain and I had to keep track of the score. We were
losing badly and making me think of all of the scores made me woozy.
When it was finally my game to play I started to feel light headed, but I headed
over to my station anyway. My teammates were Gabe, Laney and some other
people. Gabe was behind me and Laney was in front. The game I was in was the sled
pull. I felt like I wanted to drop to the ground. Finally it was my turn then Gabe
tapped my shoulder. You have a tick behind your ear, Gabe yelped.
I didn t hear him and whispered, What.

Try as I might I could never keep up with my cousins. To be honest it hasn t

by my mom and aunt, my mom said, See look at her feet. I didn t understand it at
the time but something was wrong with me and she knew it. Convincing the
doctors and others was the challenge. I walked funny and the consequences of this
birth defect made me get braces. People would consider this a burden but my
braces made me stronger and determined to push on. My preschool years where the

My little bubble would be busted shortly after. Just one week into first grade I was
introduced to the meaning of a bully. I was picked on a lot because of the way I
walked and the weird braces on my legs. It was the first time that I had thought that
my braces might not be the best in the universe after all. I even begged my mom to
not make me wear them. She wouldn t listen and I resented her for it. I didn t
understand at the time that she was making me wear them so I could be stronger
in the long run. I only had two friends in Bliss but to this day I am so grateful for
their support. They defended me when I was getting picked on and never passed
judgment about the way I walked. I remember one time when we where on the
play ground. Casey and Dylan where the definition of cowboys so of course we
where playing cowboys I was the horse because my braces sounded like a horse
walking on pavement when they clicked together and they were the cowboys
trying to get me into the pen. As we were playing some older kids came up to us

Home Education In Australia
Introduction
Home schooling is a type of schooling completed from the home, which is usually
instructed by the caregiver. Home schooling is slowly becoming more popular, both
nationally and internationally. A common conception which many people have about
home schooling is how this impacts on children s social development (Lebeda 2007,
p. 102). Realistically children who are home schooled and children who are main
steam schooled, are both open to potentially of having social abnormalities
(Romanowski 2006, p. 125). Due to the common debate of home schooling and how
this impacts on socialisation, this study will focus on three themes which have
emerged from the literature surrounding this topic. The themes include, the impact of
home schooling on social, emotional and psychological development, the efforts
which parents make to ensure their children are provided adequate time to develop
social skills and what activities and resources home schooled children are presented
with or have access too. The literature which has been sourced and referenced to
throughout this study, has been from mostly the United States and the United
Kingdom, therefore already presenting motivation for further research on this topic in
relation to Australia is needed. The study has determined a number of potential gaps,
where a need for further research is suggested.
Social, emotional and psychological development
Social, emotional and psychological impacts occur in all types of schooling and all

Women of our country need to get back to work and these turbines are helping

In this country, there are too many people on welfare and not working. Solar energy
can help fix this massive problem. More jobs mean less of the nation s money going

In What Ways Can You Compare Blanche Dubois and Nora
Helmer
In What Ways Can you Compare and Contrast Blanche DuBois and Nora Helmer?
Both Blanche DuBois and Nora Helmer are main characters in the two plays A
Streetcar Named Desire and A Dolls House. You can compare and contrast the two
characters because they do have a lot in common, however, they do appear
extremely different at first. A major difference which can be seen straight away is
that the two women are living in two different eras; Nora in 1879 and Blanche in
1947. Both characters are introduced immediately to their respective audiences.
Williams introduces Blanche in a long piece of stage directions, describing her
appearance to every last detail, whereas with Nora, we find out about her appearance
throughout the play. The characters... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She wants Mitch because he offers her security and rest , which she has not had in
her life for a long time. She wants Mitch more for what her offers her, than the fact
that she likes him. Nora has had totally security from Torvald for many years, she
has a comfortable home with two children, however, she is not happy with this,
she feels as if she is trapped and has no life of her own wants to be on her own, to
be away from Torvald so that she can experience the world for herself. The
opposites are clear between the two. Nora is throwing away her security and
seeking self sufficiency; on the other hand, Blanche seeks some kind of security
and wants someone to rely on. Although the era s in which these two plays are set,
both women still live in a male dominated society. This was a problem in both era s
and a problem which both writers wanted to highlight to the audience. This is truer
in A Dolls House, and is influential in many of ideas of the play. The problem which
causes the split between Nora and Torvald is because of Nora taking out a loan
without his consent, this shows how women were sexually discriminated against
in the time in which the play was set, as they were not allowed to do certain things
which men could, for example it was nearly impossible for them to have a well paid
job, resulting in Nora having to go behind Torvald s back to make some money.
Similarly in A Streetcar Named Desire there is clearly a
A Brief Note On Open And Distance Learning
1.0Introduction
Open and Distance Learning has become a force to be reckoned with and is
contributing immensely to both social and economic development and has become
an accepted as an indispensable part of the mainstream of educational system both in
developing as well as in the developed countries with particular emphasis for the
former. This growth has been the result of the interest that has been evinced both by
the trainers as well as the educators in the use of new, Internet based and multimedia
technologies and also by taking cognizance of the fact that the traditional ways of
learning need to be strengthened and substantiated by innovative methods, if the
fundamental right of all the people for learning is to get materialised.
The globalisation of distance education provides ample opportunities for the people
of the developing countries for the realisation of their educational goals. The
growing need for continuous up gradation of skills, retraining people along with the
technological innovations have veritably made it possible to teach more and more
people , more and more subjects at a distance are these factors have led to substantial
explosion of distance learning. Open and distance learning is one of the most rapidly
growing fields of education, and its potential impact on all education delivery systems
has been greatly accentuated through the development of ICT based technologies,
and in particular the World Wide Web. In distance learning system,
Compare And Contrast Anglo Saxon And English Language
Both the Anglo Saxons and Vikings had their own identity and language, they migrate

happened in the previous centuries when countries were invaded by other tribes and

languages were formed or existing languages had to adapt to accommodate new loan

with a particular emphasis on alliteration and percussive effects (Mastin, 2011).
Furthermore, Horne suggests, The Old English language was capable of poignant

Milton’s Paradise Lost Essay examples
Milton s Paradise Lost has been praised as being the greatest English epic of all time,
most stunningly in its author s depiction of the parents of humanity, Adam and Eve.
How Milton chose to portray the original mother and father has been a focus of much
criticism with contemporary readers. One of the main subjectsof these comments is
in reference to Eve, who, according to many, is a trivial character that is most
definitely inferior to her mate. Nonetheless, many do not recognize that, after the
fateful Fall, she becomes a much more evolved character. When Eve is introduced to
the storyline of the epic, her character is shallow and extremely undeveloped, meant
simply for display. She is quite firmly set as being inferior to her mate... Show more

He does this because the scene happens in the past and therefore he uses her to
discuss it rather than confusing the reader with a flashback type scene. He also has
Eve relate what happened to prove that Eve must indeed be beautiful if she herself
was taken by her looks as she discusses how she pined with vain desire (IV, 466) for
the image of her reflection. In fact, Eve s beauty is discussed repeatedly. For
example, when Satan first sees the human couple, he is overtaken by Eve s beauty
and submissive charms (IV, 498). Milton even goes so far to stress her beauty and
charms as to have her stun Satan himself with it. Actually, as Satan is on his mission
to seduce Eve into eating the apple, her beauty overtakes him.
If chance with nymphlike step fair virgin pass, What pleasing seemed, for her now

The Chinese Communist Party
Setting the Scene: China had experienced a turbulent century prior to the Communist
Party taking power. It has a long Confucius heritage but was plagued by foreign
imperialism, weak governments, Japanese invasion and civil war until 1949. Mao
and the Communist Party sought to transform China into a Communist society
following the ideology of Marxist Leninism. They established measures to transform
China into a totalitarian state. This required the Communist Party to have complete
power and control over the population. I am researching how the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP) gained this power and control during their first decade in
charge. This question is very significant to understanding change in Modern China.
Historians Points of View Historians have different views on how the CCP exerted
power and control over the population. Many writers between 1955 2000 including
William Hinton, an American writer on China argue that China had been so
damaged by the Japanese and the Civil War that the people just welcomed peace.
They welcomed the Communist victory as a return the country to order and many
looked forward to more fairness in how things were done after the corruption of the
past. Therefore he concludes that initially most people cooperated willingly with
Communist rule. Jung Chang and Jon Halliday Author Jung Chang and Jon Halliday
do not accept the uncompromising justifications for Mao s rise to power. Chang

The Deadly Sins Of Leadership
In chapter five we learned about the deadly sins for leadership. There are seven
sins and they are gluttony, sloth, greed, anger, lust, envy, and pride. A sin is when
a person does not do what is right. The first person we know we talked, discussed
these sins is the monk Evagrius Pnticus. The next leader we know is John cassian.
The ones he talked about did not contribute to the list we know of. These sins were
introduced long ago and as one can see they are still as important as they were
before. Many people follow the deadly sins and also a new list of the deadly sins.
Pride is one of the main sins. Pride is where one wants to become and think they
are more significant than the next person. It is known that leaders with pride are
bound to fail. The next sin is envy. Envy is when a person has an excessive desire.
The root of envy comes from not having a high self esteem. When a person is
envious they are doomed to be unhappy because they are too focused on other
people and not on their happiness. Anger is another sin and it is where a person
cannot control their feelings. Thus, resulting in wanting to bring hurt to others and
become more revengeful. The leaders that lose control and become angry because
they are envious of their workers and competitors, which they should not be. Being
envious and jealous can trigger being angry, so everything is connected between
these sins. Greed is one more sin and it is when a person wants more than they need
or deserve. When a person is

Jan Steen s Self Portrait in The Continence of Scipio as a Social Commentary
There is a tremendous difference between a fool and a jester. Fools are regarded as
light hearted, dim witted, and absent minded people whose outrageous stupidity
amused the rest of the population. These jovial folk represented the lowest in
society: too carefree to get ahead in society and too stupid to care. Many people
believed that Jan Steen, a prominent and well educated artist of the Dutch Golden
Age, was a fool. It is not a far fetched assumption to make since he donned the
appearance of a fool in his own paintings. However Steen was no fool. Much like the

He also suffered some money problems during this time and had out several loans
(Chapman, 1996). Many people have concluded that Steen s money problems
stemmed from his dissolute lifestyle. However, during that time the second Anglo
Dutch war had broken out causing a severe drop in the art market (Chapman,
1996). The post reformation society seemingly obsessed with purity, justice, and
goodness seemed to suffer a blow to its heavenly façade when corruption among
some of the most prominent leaders of society was exposed. In 1673 William III
and the Deventer fathers were found to be corrupt and traitorous to the Dutch
Republic (Kunzle, 2000). These men were meant to be the epitome of what it meant
to be Dutch. They were meant to be symbols of temperance, virtue, and justice and
were often related to Scipio Africanus, a Roman general (Kunzle, 2000). Scipio was a
popular subject matter in art, especially in 17th century Holland. During this time the
middle class became the major patrons of art. The Netherlands had just declared their
independence from Spain and wanted paintings reflecting their new Dutch identity
(Shaw Eagle, 1996). Many artists gained fame by doing genre paintings such as
scenes from everyday life. The years earlier had shown the public s desire for genre
and history painting (Meagher, 2000). Some, took old stories of
The Importance Of Maritime Rights In America
In the early eighteen hundreds France and Britain were at war. The Napoleonic
powers were starting to gain more sway in Europe, and Britain was trying to control
America as much as it could. Relations were beginning to strain, and America felt that
its rights had been violated by Great Britain. The main factors that drove the United
Statesto war with Great Britain were the protection of maritime rights, the drive to
expand American soil, and the wish to portray America as an honorable nation. The
main component which drove the US to war was the need to prove America was a
great nation capable of protecting their rights, their people, and their honor.
The main factor, that being the verification of America as a great nation,
encompassed most of the others, including the need to protect United States maritime
rights. During this time of conflict leading up to the war British forces would capture
American ships and then take many sailors as prisoners, this practice was called
impressment. The United States Committee on Foreign Relations claimed that the
nation s maritime rights were being infringed and in a congressional report informed
the people that Great Britain, in defiance of this incontestable [clear and certain]
right, captures every American vessel ... enslaves our seamen, and in spite of our
[complaints and protests] perseveres in these aggressions (Document 1). President
Madison also tried to emphasise the nature of Britain s actions in his declaration of
war. We

If one does not let go of hatred, then it will cloud one s heart judgement and actions

The lieutenant governor, Dan Patrick, is the presiding officer over the Texas

amount of control over the Senate because Senate debates are unlimited in time.

The Speaker and lieutenant governor are instrumental in appointing members to

The Theme Of Existentialism In The Brother s Karamazov

and his four sons. Each son represents a certain worldview which is explored

his conflict with Fyodor. The Brothers Karamazovdescribes how three men with
contrasting world views discover the corruption of their family and the truth behind a

the aircraft. Some people say that the pilot, Zaharie Ahmad Shah, suicide bombed
the plane. Others say that the plane was hijacked. Or that the plane was hacked, by
a passenger, and commited a suicide bombing. I personally believe that the pilot
was responsible for the missing aircraft. One possible theory is that the pilots were
responsible for the disappearance of the aircraft. One reason I think the pilots were
responsible is, that if both of the pilots agreed to bail they... Show more content on

attempted to take control of an aircraft flying in the Xinjiang Uyghur region using
pieces of a metal crutch that had been sharpened to make crude weapons. This plot
was also foiled. This shows that the passengers have tried hijacking the aircraft.
This also demonstrates that the plane might ve been hijacked. Another article

Analysis Of A Classroom Interview
The classroom interview allowed both of us to learn new experiences from each
other. Throughout the interview we were able to listen and understand, while also
speaking our own voice. It was really interesting to learn about someone else in the
classroom. Being fully present with another person s happiness opened us up to new
experiences such as being more empathetic and able to relate to each other. During
our interviewwe were both exposed to a variety of experiences while being the
listener. Brandon s experience while being the listener was really interesting. I
found it very cool how we were able to relate to each other through many different
topics. Probably the most relatable topic we discussed was our love for travel. Like
Madison, I have traveled with my family throughout the world and got to experience
so many different cultures. While I was the listener I really wanted to interrupt so
that I could share my thoughts, but I restrained myself. Throughout the interview, I
found it fascinating how she traveled to Asia,... Show more content on

Brandon s experience while being listened to was very interesting. Being listened
to generally made me relax. However, I did feel that it was a bit awkward to talk
about personal stuff when we just started talking. Although, as the conversation
progressed it became less awkward. When I started answering the questions
presented I really found the things I was most passionate about. One thing I am
definitely passionate about is the ability to travel and see other cultures. As soon as
I started talking about travel I could instantly tell that Madison was interested in
hearing me. As Madison became more interested in what I had to say it became
more comforting to me, as well as made it a more meaningful conversation. My
listening experience was very fulfilling and it was cool to share my love of travel
with someone
The Antarctic Treaty Essay
The Antarctic Treaty
When and why was the treaty formed?
The Antarctic Treaty was signed in Washington on the 1st December 1959 by the
twelve countries that had been active in Antarctica during the International
Geophysical Year (IGY): Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Chile, France, Japan, New
Zealand, Norway, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States and the USSR.
Through this agreement, the countries active in Antarctica consult on the uses of a
whole continent, with a commitment that it should not become the scene or object of
international discord.
The treaty was formed for several reasons, but one of the main concerns of the time
was that rivalry between nations claiming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Birdman Of Alcatraz, By Aka Robert Stroud
While you may have heard of, The Birdman of Alcatraz, aka Robert Stroud, another
popular Alcatraz inmate. He was probably the most famous inmate to reside on
Alcatraz. In 1909, Stroud brutally murdered a bartender when he failed to pay the
girl Stroud was pimping for. He shot the bartender to death and took the wallet for
the prostitute. Stroud was convicted of manslaughter and sent to McNeil Island in
1911. At McNeil Island, he was noted to be violent and difficult to manage. Robert
Stroud viciously assaulted a hospital orderly and even stabbed a fellow inmate. As a
result of his hostility, he was sentenced an additional six months. Stroud was moved
to Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary in Kansas because of overcrowding and... Show

Unfortunately, Robert Stroud was never to able to see the move of himself, Birdman
of Alcatraz, by Burt Lancaster. The movie portrayed Robert with a more calm
personality, the opposite of his actual behavior. (Alcatraz History: Famous Inmates)
Everyone knows how hard it would have been to escape Alcatraz and live, so
escape attempts were rarely rewarding. Alcatraz was open for twenty nine years
and only had fourteen escape attempts with thirty six involved prisoners overall.
No attempts were considered successful. One prisoner actually made it to San
Francisco, but was promptly arrested and returned. Two inmates drowned in the
bay and six were shot dead during their attempts. Twenty three were captured and
returned, but five were never found. Prisoner officials say the five prisoners must
have also drowned. The first escape attempt was made in April, 1936, by Joseph
Bowers, prisoner 210. He was shot and killed. The Battle of Alcatraz is considered
one of the bloodiest escape attempts in the history of Alcatraz. It s also known as
the Alcatraz Blast Out . On May 2, 1946, six prisoners tried to take control of the
main building. They were able to overpower the guards and the battle lasted two
days. Two officers were killed and many others had several injuries. Three out of the
six prisoners who attempted to escape died in battle. Finally, on May 4,
reinforcements came and took control. The living three inmates went on trial for the
murders

Watercrafts In Ancient China
My research topic was naval transport and watercrafts, in the following document I
will be comparing and contrasting the two greatest river vessels of the ancient
world. The Sampan of ancient China and the Felucca of Egypt. Each culture had a
different idea on boats, and I hope to teach you that not all ships are created equal.
Both of these boats were made of wood, and both were held together with vegetable
compounds. Although the Egyptians used wet reeds as caulk for the seams of
lumber, the Chinese used strong fibers pulled off of plants to secure small parts
together.
This was not the only similarity though, rudders were rather mainstream at that
point and so both of the different ships used the same method of control. Large
wooden rudders planted at the back of the ship would catch the water like a sail
beneath the surface of the water creating resistance and shifting the bow in the
opposite direction. The rudder is still being used in almost all sailboats, and has
evolved very little, even after hundreds of years. ... Show more content on

The Felucca is much more prominent in modern civilization than the Sampan, the
Felucca is still being used not only for day to day sailing, but tours of the nile as well.
The Feluccas all used linen sails to navigate the nile river while on the other hand
the Sampan was propelled by the current and oars. The Sampans had more of a
spiritual significance throughout the Chinese culture than any Egyptian boat. Each
Sampan was decorated with painted eyes on the front of the boat, because the
Chinese believed that the ship needed to see ahead, and ships were specially
designed not to disrupt the current which in turn would disrupt the river dragon who
was believed to swallow all of China if woken. Earlier Egyptian boats were made
purely of reeds because wood supply was scarce, while the Sampan was made of
wood from the

  • 3. Sweatshop Labour INTRODUCTION Sweatshop workers make the ultimate sacrifice for profit. Merchandise in the garment industry are outsourced and produced by slave labourers forced in working conditions that are cruel and exploitative, often in fear of punishment. A sweatshop is defined by the US Department of Labor as a factory that violates two or more labor laws (Do Something, 2016). Human trafficking in the garment industry is prevalent globally, but astronomical numbers are concentrated in developing countries such as Indonesia and Vietnam. Multimillion dollar, globalized companies have no accountability and turn a blind eye to the exploitation towards trafficked victims occurring behind the scenes in fear of jeopardizing company reputations. There is a common misconception that sweatshop labourers work in these conditions voluntarily because it s their only opportunity to employment and allows them to sustain the cost of living. Because of the lack of transparency in the industry, consumers are unaware of the fair pay that these labourers are owed. Those who are trafficked into sweatshop labour usually do not have a choice. Trafficked sweatshop labour victims are all held against their will and forced to work primarily to give businesses the best chance at earning a profit. Moreover, as they continue to be underpaid, or often times not paid, they are unable to provide themselves with adequate living conditions for themselves or their family members. Appropriate and fair compensation for labour is virtually nonexistent in sweatshop

Love, lust, and sex are often said to be interchangeable but in actuality they are not. Lust is being infatuated with a person for their appearance, Love is accepting a person for their appearance, their brain, their personality, and their values, Sex, however, is the desire and the need to be touched by another. People have sex when they are in love, when the feel the urge, when they are bored, or simply because they like it. The best way to explore the differences in why people have sex is to explore the way the story is told. Are they having sex because they really love each other or are they doing it to make up for the love? In all honesty either answer could be right or even a combination of both. • 6. Darfur Is Dying The game I have chosen to analyze named Darfur is Dying. It is a flash based browser game about the crisis in Darfur, western Sudan. The game begins with the selection of avatar to forage for water. The gender and age of the selected character will mainly determine the success or failure. The main purpose of the gameis to enable players to learn about the crisis in Darfur and get involve with stopping the crisis. Therefore, we can conclude that Darfur is Dying is a serious game. According to Beuer and Bente (2010), a serious game is a game which its primary goal is education, rather than entertainment. By analyzing this serious game, I would like to answer the question: How can Darfur is Dying enhance players political engagement? Neys and Janz (2010) conducted a research about how... Accordingly, Ruiz (2006, cited in Neys Janz, 2010) also revealed that her game predominantly aimed at inspiring people to take action to prevent the killing and suffering in Sudan. In conclusion, Darfur is Dying is a serious game which involves the players in political engagement. Not only has it raised public awareness of the killing Darfur, but also empowered game audiences to take action to stop the political

Not understanding or knowing the intricate details that go into what it actually takes to coexist with incarcerated inmates is one of the reasons that the general public is able to go about their daily lives, not thinking or wondering how those inmates are controlled. While most of us on the outside world try to make a routine day more enjoyable, routine for the correctional officers within the prison is not a negative thing in the least, as a routine day is very important to the successful operation of a correctional facility. Routine in a prison environment is the consistent, scheduled, and expected activities that make up the day within a prison (Seiter, 2011). The daily grind for correctional officers include specific assignments that can be anything from supervising inmates on a work crew or in a housing area to a non inmate contact job in a tower or control center. Some of the different categories of correctional officers assignments include living units, work detail supervisors, industrial shop and school officers, administration building

The process involves removing all tress from the site, then the topsoil, and then using explosives to remove the remaining soil and rock to reveal coal. The coal is removed and processed, and then the mountaintop is reclaimed with soil or an appropriate substitute, and sometimes replanted.6 While mountaintop mining in the Appalachians is only a small percentage of coalproduced by the United States, the issues surrounding it are complex and wide ranging. Some of the biggest players in the industry are Alpha Natural Resources (formerly known as Massey Energy), and Consol Energy. Some coal mining companies are more open to higher environmental standards than others. In West Virginia the non profit Coal River Mountain Watch is a community advocate group that work to expose the injustices and hazards of mountaintop mining.6 Also in West Virginia is the Mountain Party, a political party affiliated with the national Green Party, whose main platform is to end mountaintop mining.12 A major regulatory player is the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, who issues many of the permits that allow for mountaintop mining and waste removal practices. Marx insist that capitalism was like paying a worker one price for doing something and selling it to someone else for a higher price, and to him this was exploitation. Marx believes capitalism is unstable because it causes crisis of abundance in an economic system rather than shortages. What enraged Marx was that we are able to produce so much. We can supply everyone on the planet with a car, house, access to a decent school and hospitals. He mentions how capitalist factories are so efficient, and requires less people to work. This leads to the big unemployment word that many capitalism societies face. Marx see s this unemployment as freedom which is interesting because not getting a paycheck and doing nothing productive is a form of freedom in his eyes. Marx wanted to redistribute the wealth that was consumed mostly by the rich and share it with everyone. Marx believed in commodity fetish. Capitalism put such strong emphasis on economic interest instead of the heart of life. For example, marriage, capitalism puts business as a major factor in marriage. Marx argued that marriage was an extension of business and people only stayed together for financial reasons and not love. The bourgeois would fight with their spouse s and have miserable marriages. The capitalism system forces everyone to put economic interests in the heart of their lives so they don t know deep honest love and relationships. The twentieth century feminist movement argued that

Their goal was to land on Mars by 1965 and to Saturn by 1970 [1]. They were funded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) in July for $1 million per year. There came a time in 1959 when ARPA no longer was able to support Project Orion due to insufficient funds and approached the Air Force for funding [1]. The Air Force reluctantly decided to fund only if they can find a use for it. The Secretary of Defense, Robert McNamara, refused to increase funding to Project Orion as he felt it was not a military asset [2]. The Orion team inquired NASA for funding as its current funding would not be enough to build a flyable spacecraft [2]. NASA, same as the Air Force, reluctantly provided funding due its fear that it would cause a public relations disaster. Project Orion was hit by a fatal blow as the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs came into an agreement of the Outer Space Treaty [3]. • 14. A Hero Is A True Hero Is someone fighting in a war a hero, or is a man flying around with a cape in a movie? As people grow and change so does their definition of a hero. A hero is any person who does the right thing. Children think of heroes as superheroes with crazy powers, but a best friend, or a neighbor could be a true hero. A hero does not run away from a challenge, and is not a coward. At times heroes do not even notice that they are a hero. In a person s life they will meet dozens of heroes everyday, but not even know. Even when no one is watching, a hero does the right thing, puts others before themselves, and always accepts a challenge. All heroes do the right thing even when no one is watching. A hero will not bully or make fun of people to their face or behind their back. A hero is that kid that will help pick up books when someone drops them, not to feel good but to do the right thing. Paramedics save lives everyday, just to save lives not for the reward. That is what makes a true hero. In an interview with McCall magazine, Oliver Stone says Scientists who spend years of their lives trying to find cures for diseases. The teenager who says no to crack. The inner city kid who works at McDonald s instead of selling drugs. The kid who stands alone instead of joining a gang, which would give him an instant identity (Stone 74). All of those people are doing the right thing. The teenager is saving his own life, the kid working at McDonald s is stopping others from overdosing. The kid who stood alone saved his own and other lives, because gangs kill. Everyone can be a hero. Additionally a hero puts others lives before his or her own. Police and other first responders go to the place they have to not knowing if they will live or die, just wanting to help whoever needs it. Firefighters run in burning buildings with only one goal in mind, rescuing the person in the building. The dad in the military trying to protect his country and family is another hero. Abraham lincoln helped america develop and got the country through dark times. He freed the slaves not worrying of being killed. In O Captain, My Captain, Whitman says, The ship is anchored safe and sound, its voyage closed and done; 20From fearful trip the victor ship comes
  • 15. How To Justify Antigone I dissent from German philosopher s Hegel s interpretation that this conflict is not between good and evil, but between one sided positions, each of which embodies some good. From my perspective, I do not think both sides can be equally justified, due to the fact that Antigone came upon an unjust situation and took appropriate action, while Kreon is trying to enforce a law that pains the people around him. Therefore, I can justify Antigone s point of view rather than Kreon s because I can relate to the fact that your family and personal beliefs are above all else. Kreon took the predicament too far by declaring that Antigone be put to death for her courteous action of providing a proper burial for her brother, Polyneices. As I see it, Antigone had every right to perform a burial for Polyneices. She was not trying to deliberately upset or disobey Kreon, but she knew she had to do what she felt was right in her heart. She was aware of the consequences and she still followed through with it, therefore, it clearly meant a lot to her. Burying her brother, respecting the gods, and standing up to Kreon demonstrates her true defiant character for staying loyal to herself and to family, no matter the outcome. It could not have been easy for Antigone to challenge Kreon who is her uncle and also the King of Thebes. This showcases how strong and courageous she is for not being afraid or ashamed to tell Kreon what she s done. A quote by Antigone on page 40 and lines 499 507 of Sophocle s play states Then what s delaying you? For there is nothing in your words that s pleasing to me may there never be! And naturally you disapprove of mine as well. Yet how could I have won more glorious renown than by the act of placing my own brother in a tomb? These people here would say my action pleases all of them, if fear did not lock up their tongues. But this is one of kingship s many blessings that it can both act and speak just as it wishes to. After Kreon discovers that Antigone is the one responsible for the burial of Polyneices, Antigone is essentially telling Kreon that she knows he disagrees with her actions, but she has no regret and he should just take her away and kill her because she is content and proud of herself for

I argue that Yorick s skull is significant to Shakespeare s play Hamlet because it further increases the character Hamlet s obsession with death. There is great significance in the fact that the bone that was found was a bone as dramatic and as important as a skull. The significance that it is the skull of not only a jester, a character whose point in life is to bring joy to people, but also the fact that Yorick was someone Hamletknew as a child. All of these factors contribute to Hamlet s obsession with death and mortality. By this point in Hamlet, Hamlet has already experienced a great bit of death with people he has known throughout his life. It is not a shock that Hamlet would start having such an obsession with death and mortality because of all the death he experiences in this play. The accounting profession is constantly changing and making improvements. The first weakness in the Code of Professional Conduct deals with conflictions within the code due to the code being constantly updated (Dienhart, 1995). Dienhart, Lunday, and Tavani have all criticized professional codes because the directives cause conflictions with one another, whether it is direct or indirect. • 19. Hypertension Is Characterized By Chronic Elevated Blood... Background Hypertension is characterized by chronic elevated blood pressure1. It can be a predisposing factor or secondary to heart failure. In the US, there are 75 million individuals who have hypertension with two thirds of individuals 65 years or older diagnosed. Various factors can contribute to the development of hypertension including renal disease, thyroid disease, dysregulation of hormones, and alcohol consumption. The disease also highly correlates with age as even individuals 55 years old with normal blood pressure have a 90% lifetime risk of developing hypertension with age. Left untreated, hypertension can result in retinopathy, cardiomyopathy, and stroke with the most common cause of death being coronary artery disease. The diagnoses of hypertension is primarily done by the monitoring of blood pressure with multiple readings of systolic pressure greater than 140 mmHg and diastolic pressure greater than 90 mmHg indicating stage one hypertension1,2. The evaluation of the eyes, heart, thyroid, and renal system are also important in understanding the cause and extent of hypertension. Initial treatment involves lifestyle and diet modifications such as exercise, smoking, cessation, and limited sodium intake. Patients unresponsive to lifestyle and diet modification or have a blood pressure greater than 160/100 mmHg are recommended by the American Heart Association to begin drug therapy. Current JNC 8 guidelines dictate the goal of treatment to reduce blood pressure

Empire Comparison A ancient history saw the rise of many kingdoms and empires that shaped the current world and its political activities. If anything, most of these dynasties are attributed to have dictated the mode of governance and the general aspects of democracy, as they were founded during those eras. Most kingdoms had their ways of governance but bear some similarities and differences as well. The Greek empire, the Tang dynasty, and the Ottoman Empire are examples of dynasties whose reign shaped history. These kingdoms underwent the general growth curve. This paper considers the individual details of the Greek empire, the Tang dynasty, and the Ottoman Empires by highlighting the significant aspects such as the origin, the rise, and the eventual fall while at the same time highlighting the factors that led to the occurrence of the mentioned events. Greek Empire Historians has not agree on the origins of the ancient Greece. However, most of them tend to converge on the thoughts that this origin can be traced back to the 18th century BCE (Hart, 2014). Mycenaeans were the earliest inhabitants of Greece, but an invasion around 1100BCE left the region uncivilized leading to the Dark Ages. The best of these morphing creatures is the mimic octopus. It adopts the colors of a poisonous sea snake and changes its body into a thin ribbon to scare predators away. The reason why was because today was field day. So I got to my homeroom and my teacher Mrs. Martin (my second grade teacher) started explaining what was going to happen today. I couldn t make out everything from the fact that I was thinking about what was going to happen today. We started heading outside carrying all the materials we will need for the day. I was very competitive about things and I wanted to win. I watched as the games went by and I had to because I was the captain and I had to keep track of the score. We were losing badly and making me think of all of the scores made me woozy. When it was finally my game to play I started to feel light headed, but I headed over to my station anyway. The opposites are clear between the two. Nora is throwing away her security and seeking self sufficiency; on the other hand, Blanche seeks some kind of security and wants someone to rely on. Although the era s in which these two plays are set, both women still live in a male dominated society. This was a problem in both era s and a problem which both writers wanted to highlight to the audience. This is truer in A Dolls House, and is influential in many of ideas of the play. The problem which causes the split between Nora and Torvald is because of Nora taking out a loan without his consent, this shows how women were sexually discriminated against in the time in which the play was set, as they were not allowed to do certain things which men could, for example it was nearly impossible for them to have a well paid job, resulting in Nora having to go behind Torvald s back to make some money. How Milton chose to portray the original mother and father has been a focus of much criticism with contemporary readers. One of the main subjectsof these comments is in reference to Eve, who, according to many, is a trivial character that is most definitely inferior to her mate. Nonetheless, many do not recognize that, after the fateful Fall, she becomes a much more evolved character. He also has Eve relate what happened to prove that Eve must indeed be beautiful if she herself was taken by her looks as she discusses how she pined with vain desire (IV, 466) for the image of her reflection. In fact, Eve s beauty is discussed repeatedly. For example, when Satan first sees the human couple, he is overtaken by Eve s beauty and submissive charms (IV, 498). Milton even goes so far to stress her beauty and charms as to have her stun Satan himself with it. Actually, as Satan is on his mission to seduce Eve into eating the apple, her beauty overtakes him. This required the Communist Party to have complete power and control over the population. The ones he talked about did not contribute to the list we know of. These sins were introduced long ago and as one can see they are still as important as they were before. Many people follow the deadly sins and also a new list of the deadly sins. Pride is one of the main sins. Pride is where one wants to become and think they are more significant than the next person. It is known that leaders with pride are bound to fail. The next sin is envy. Envy is when a person has an excessive desire. The root of envy comes from not having a high self esteem. When a person is envious they are doomed to be unhappy because they are too focused on other people and not on their happiness. Anger is another sin and it is where a person cannot control their feelings. Thus, resulting in wanting to bring hurt to others and become more revengeful. Kierkegaard wrote a book about the paradox surrounding Abraham sacrificing Isaac. The narrator questions whether Abraham s faith in God can justify killing his son (SГёren Kierkegaard: A Master of Refraction 78). Another existentialist, Karl Jaspers, argues that, free will makes all faith essentially existential. Jaspers also argues that, since life is absurd, it is less absurd to believe in a God which promises eternal life than to believe in nothing at all ( Christian and Theological Existentialism ). Dostoyevsky uses two contrasting chapters to argue against atheistic existentialism. The Grand Inquisitor is a story written by Ivan Karamazov. In the story, Jesus visits the Spanish Inquisition, but the religious leaders do not want Him there. They claim that they already have freedom, and that His return will take the freedom away. The chapter reveals Ivan s belief that the church is just a cult which thrives off of the weak, and it explains how incredibly boring a sinless world would

Throughout the interview we were able to listen and understand, while also speaking our own voice. It was really interesting to learn about someone else in the classroom. During our interviewwe were both exposed to a variety of experiences while being the listener. Brandon s experience while being the listener was really interesting. As soon as I started talking about travel I could instantly tell that Madison was interested in hearing me. As Madison became more interested in what I had to say it became more comforting to me, as well as made it a more meaningful conversation. My listening experience was very fulfilling and it was cool to share my love of travel with someone

The movie portrayed Robert with a more calm personality, the opposite of his actual behavior. (Alcatraz History: Famous Inmates) Everyone knows how hard it would have been to escape Alcatraz and live, so escape attempts were rarely rewarding. Alcatraz was open for twenty nine years and only had fourteen escape attempts with thirty six involved prisoners overall. No attempts were considered successful. One prisoner actually made it to San Francisco, but was promptly arrested and returned. Two inmates drowned in the bay and six were shot dead during their attempts. Twenty three were captured and returned, but five were never found. Prisoner officials say the five prisoners must have also drowned. The first escape attempt was made in April, 1936, by Joseph Bowers, prisoner 210. He was shot and killed. The Battle of Alcatraz is considered one of the bloodiest escape attempts in the history of Alcatraz. It s also known as the Alcatraz Blast Out . On May 2, 1946, six prisoners tried to take control of the main building. They were able to overpower the guards and the battle lasted two days. Watercrafts In Ancient China My research topic was naval transport and watercrafts, in the following document I will be comparing and contrasting the two greatest river vessels of the ancient world. The Sampan of ancient China and the Felucca of Egypt. Each culture had a different idea on boats, and I hope to teach you that not all ships are created equal. Both of these boats were made of wood, and both were held together with vegetable compounds. Although the Egyptians used wet reeds as caulk for the seams of lumber, the Chinese used strong fibers pulled off of plants to secure small parts together. This was not the only similarity though, rudders were rather mainstream at that point and so both of the different ships used the same method of control. Large wooden rudders planted at the back of the ship would catch the water like a sail beneath the surface of the water creating resistance and shifting the bow in the opposite direction. The rudder is still being used in almost all sailboats, and has evolved very little, even after hundreds of years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Felucca is much more prominent in modern civilization than the Sampan, the Felucca is still being used not only for day to day sailing, but tours of the nile as well. The Feluccas all used linen sails to navigate the nile river while on the other hand the Sampan was propelled by the current and oars. The Sampans had more of a spiritual significance throughout the Chinese culture than any Egyptian boat. Each Sampan was decorated with painted eyes on the front of the boat, because the Chinese believed that the ship needed to see ahead, and ships were specially designed not to disrupt the current which in turn would disrupt the river dragon who was believed to swallow all of China if woken. Earlier Egyptian boats were made purely of reeds because wood supply was scarce, while the Sampan was made of wood from the
