I used pencil in order to create a high contrast with the shadows and highlights and I
used colored pencils and pen to create both subtle colors and a surreal effect. I am
also influenced greatly by the stories I watch. My mandala art piece is filled with
themes from the show RWBY, which is about a young girl and her team of friends
battling monsters and corruption in a dangerous, but unique world. RWBY
inspired me to take a more fantastical approach to my story, building a world with

Flooding every major media outlet making headlines across the country are school
shootings, it shook the nation when twenty, first graders and six adults were killed
by Adam Lanza, a twenty year old man who shot his mother in the head before taking
her car and driving to Sandy Hook Elementary. Other schoolshooting have occurred
since then and it brought up the issue of guncontrol, some politicians even supported
the idea of giving teachers guns to have in the classroom. I am against allowing
teachers to have guns in the classroom in the name of protection and security.

My initial point of view is adding more guns to a hostile situation by giving teachers
guns does not solve schools security issues in trying to keep children safe. Spending
valuable money should not go into training teachers on how to use a gun, it should
go into educating all staff members and students on emergency drills and lock downs

a high degree social mobility in American culture. Many are not improving from their
parent s positions, and few maintain it if not falling below. There are several factors
including income inequality, family background and lack of opportunity for mobility

For individuals supporting their family and making ends meet, they simply cannot
afford to attend college without working full time. Without financial aid, it is
nearly impossible for disadvantaged students to attend college, none the less pay for
their heaping student loans. Government spending for community colleges alone
has dropped by from $10 billion to about $2 billion in recent times according to
The Economist. The people who come from families with a higher rating of wealth
or economic status, are far more likely to be able to get their education and attain
wealth. What does this mean for people who do not have financial assistance or
sufficient parental income? Without access to an education, social mobility remains
stalled in the long term, and the rich poor gap grows wider. The connection between
an education and gained wealth is clear; people who attend college and earn a degree
have a much lower unemployment rate, and higher income versus people who did
not attend college. According to United States Department of Labor and Statistics,
people with a high school diploma or equivalent, face an unemployment rate of
10.3% down to 2.4% at a professional degree versus an unemployment rate of 14.9%
for Americans with less than a high school diploma. With fewer graduates, it will be
more difficult for parents to pay their own children s tuition, as many cannot
